GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM:

http://members.aol.com/debelli/monday_morning_thought.jpg

YOUR DESTINATION

Right this very moment you are on your way somewhere. You are moving steadily toward a specific destination, as a result of the thoughts you are thinking and actions you are taking right now.

What is that destination? Where is it you are busily taking yourself? Is it where you've always wanted to go, or is it somewhere you'd rather not even think about?

Look at how you're spending this day. Consider your plans for tomorrow. All those activities will lead you somewhere. That place will be the place you choose, and your choice will be made by your actions.

Are your actions today making the choice you truly desire? If so, that's great. If not, that's no problem, because you're in a position to change those actions.

Your desires may be strong yet it is your actions, day in and day out, which will bring those desires into reality. They're yours to use. Let them bring you to the best life you can possibly imagine.

Me again:wave:

Just got in from my walk, didn't jog at all. We had torrential downpours here last night so the streets are flooded along with some of the sidewalks along my route. The threat of rain is still out there, but luckily I was able to maneuver around the flooding and get my walk in without getting rained on.

Well, that fiber finally kicked in this morning in a big way. Lets just say within a 5 minutes time-frame, I lost a pound! Happy to report that I'm down again on the scale today to 122.5, still up 1.5 from the low, but that's okay, just so I'm in the 119-124 range, I'm happy:D

Today is my 19th month SB ANNIVERSARY! Time just seems to pass so quickly, no one, not even I, would of thought I'd be able to do anything consitently for this amount of time, it's just not like me, I usually get bored of things after a while, but I'm really proud and happy that I've stuck with SB so well, for so long.

Well, it seems that I will be getting my hair done today. I'm a bit nervous, don't know the guy at all and hoping he doesn't screw my hair up somehow. What's the worst that could happen:?: I would probably say, a really bad cut, bad color and maybe hair falling out? Let's just hope and pray I have a good report to come back and tell you all. My appt is at 10am, so I will be MIA til much later in the day.

BOB, will tell the BIG BOY you said congrats. I'm suppose to tell you that there's a FRIENDS AND FAMILY DAY, I think he said Dec. 12th, where he gets 30% like normal PLUS another 40%, he said it's like paying $20 on eahc $100 purchase, so keep that in mind:D

BUSDEB, hope your MIL is doing better. Did the pic get to you okay? Hoping to see it on the board:)

REMINDER, tomorrow night is chat at 9:15PM EST Hope you can all make it this week!

Okay gals, time to jump in the shower. I'll let you know the outcome when I get home!!!

Have a wonderful week!

Ok--it is the start of a brand new week! I'm pumped--don't particularly know why, but I am.

Deb--Have fun with the hair today. It can really be fun to shake things up a bit. You have a whole new look now--so your hair should too!:D

BOB--Thanks for your good wishes! We've got 4 more games--all SEC and three on the road. Bama is the only team we get at home. We are perfectly capable of winning any of them--and equally capable of losing any of them. I guess that's what makes football season so exciting! It must be pretty boring when you just sit back and expect your team to win every game---heh heh heh--eh Gator?

NACSAR--did y'all have fun at 'Dega yesterday? Your fella won--but man that pile up at the end sure took my breath away. Can't imagine what it looked like in the stands. How Gordon got through it I'll never know. I felt so bad for Rudd who couldn't get to the finish line and lost so much more ground in the points race. I hate for it to happen like that!

Sparkle--I really enjoy your website. I'm also on the anti-sugar crusade. If I get more sugar than I should, my body feels it almost instantly. That's why I've learned to grill servers at restaurants about the ingredients in sauces and other dishes.

Miss Belle is up from her morning nap and purring loudly in my lap. She has become very nocturnal in her play time--and doesn't understand why I don't want to play with her. Naturally as soon as I get up in the morning she sacks out.

Have a good day everyone

To all of you who have given me support and friendship, I want to say THANK YOU. You have changed my life forever! At this time in my life, although I need you, I cannot give you what you deserve, constant companionship and support. This has been coming for sometime, but now I'm really doing it...I'm taking a true sabbatical from our group. I could never be who I am today without all of you and SugarBusters. I have no intention of returning to my old routines and will continue to battle the sugar demons each and every day. Most of you have my email address and for those of you who don't it's ldblond@hotmail.com. I would love to stay in touch. :^:

May the Lord Bless you all and keep you strong in your committment to a healthier life.

Good Morning all

I went to have breakfast this am with my busbuddies. We ate at Cracker Barrel. Now I am about to go walk. I am hoping that WIW is going to be good again this week. I of course have been peaking and it looks good so far. ;)

Deb.....can't wait to hear how your hair turns out. Thank you so much for resizing that picture. I will post it at the end of this post. Thanks again.

Fillise.....glad you are pumped......hope your week continues like that.

Ldblond.....I am sad to see you leave. I wish you well and may you have continued success in your sugar battles.

Ok this is the picture that I had taken for the school yearbook a couple of weeks again. If is messes up your computers it is all Debelli's fault.

Have a good day all.

Good Morning everyone

It's a beautiful cool, sunny, fall morning here. Just come in from raking leaves. Had help from my dil, 5 year old gs and dil's Mom. Amazing how quick it goes with so many helpers. Just got four bags of leaves, with probably a dozen more still on the trees.

Heading out to play badminton this afternoon and this evening my dd is visiting. My ds is taking two of his nephews out to a basketball game this evening. So I will be feeding them all before they leave.

Have to run as I have some shopping to do before lunch.

Will try and check in again later and catch up with all the posts.

Have a good day everyone.

So far, so good for a Monday!

I never got a chance to check in this weekend, but just finished reading through your posts and caught up on the latest!

I spent Saturday cleaning out all of the "junk areas" of my oldest's bedroom. We tackled the closet, drawers, shelves, under the bed, and all other areas that tend to get junky. He found stuff that he had forgotten he ever had! I moved on to the dining room closet, which tends to get various odds and ends just thrown in to get them out of sight!! My DH is notorious about that!! Then I started on my utility room!! Oh, I just hate the utility room!!! I got a whole lot done, but much more to go! I plan on taking a room or closet per week and getting the house organized. I want to have it done by Christmas!

I'm trying very hard this week to make sure to stay on the wagon! No cheating!!!!!!!!!!! I've made a vow to get my water and fiber and EXERCISE in, EVERY DAY THIS WEEK!!! I desparately want to get at or under the 145 mark.

DEB - Scale back down - COOL  - I knew it would happen!! Sorry the weather has been so "YUCK" down there. It has been beautiful here in N. AL. I took my little one to a BD party yesterday and they played outside! It was so fun to watch them. Hope the "hair" goes well today!

BOB AND GATOR - I guess some folks don't understand the football rivalry/ribbing stuff. I, myself, am a Auburn fan who lives with and is married to an AL fan and things get pretty ugly around my house sometimes!!! We haven't been into football near as much this season as we usually are - don't know why.....??? But I can promise that when the BIG game comes up (AL vs AU) the gloves will be OFF! Its a lot of fun to see who can "twist the knive" the most! When the kids were little, we used to scare them during the big games because we would "holler" so suddenly!! LOL

BusDeb - sounds like you had a good weekend!! Email me this week - we need to catch up!

NASCAR - The race was great!! Glad Jr. pulled it out!!

I've gotta run for now - will holler back later!

This weekend was good, but I was so op it wasn't even funny. My inlaws were in town and they paid for everything. We had a really good dinner on Friday night and went to the Georgia Tech football game on Satuday. Needless to say, my loss of last week is lost and it's time to start over.

I'm going by the gym that I joined through work to find out what classes they offer. I have officially had it.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. ldblond, I wish you well.

I'll check in later, and of course, WIW (as depressing as it may be.)

Today's thought is:
Finding Your Purpose

Everyone has a dream. Everyone has a purpose or
mission, something specific he is called to do. You
are on this earth for a reason. Although you can
temporarily hide from yourself, you can never lose
your connection to your purpose. It is always with
you, beckoning to be uncovered. You just need to
listen and let it speak to you.

When you do decide to follow your dream, be
prepared for resistance. The old beliefs and
messages from the past that say it cannot be done
will come rushing to the surface. How will you
respond to these voices of fear and doubt? Will you
allow them to immobilize you? Or will you tell
them who is in charge and move forward in spite of
your fears?

Despite the objections of everyone around her,
Augusta pursued her dream of becoming an
Olympic track athlete. At first a series of
disappointing performances seemed to confirm the
predictions of her family and friends. But then she
won a race. The improvement continued until a
number of first-place finishes gave her a spot on the
Olympic team.

No matter what the obstacles, choose to be true to
your purpose and let it guide and direct your way.
Your destiny is beckoning you. It is time to heed the
call.

Nice picture Deb!

Well my weekend was not so hot. I had a big party on Saturday and really, really tried to resist the goodies but failed :( I ate chocolate chip cookies ( 2 ) and chocolate covered pretzels ( 2 HANDFULS). Then last night I was feeling yucky then ate pizza hut :(
So today is a new day and I am starting fresh. Still trying to work more protein into my diet without the fat. I bought some smoked oysters? And the garbanzo beans. So, I still need some tips on what else I can add as far as protein is concerned. I am thinking I am going to eat an omelet AND my cereal and fruit for breakfast to try and up my calories. I am just about over my sickies so I will walk this afternoon.

I hope everyone is ok!

Also, how do I get color in my post? I see the stuff up there but do not understand how to use it :?:

Maybe that worked???

Hey everyone!!! We got here in Jay, Oklahoma Saturday afternoon & have truely been enjoying the Fall colors & temps. Beauiful area here. BIL's GF has been a lovely hostess & she lives right on the lake in a lovely wooded, hilly area. We walked quiet a bit yesterday, went out to another lake in the afternoon & walked some more while they tried a little fishing. We took some pictures, so I'm anxious to get them finished & in the mail so I can post some.

Eating has not been totally OP since I have little control over meals, but have been trying to be cautious as not to offend the cook. :D

We'll be heading out to Waco in the AM & will be there till Friday. Should be able to check back in during that time. jred we sure will wave as we come thru the BigD tomorrow afternoon. We'll be coming thru Oklahoma City or pretty close to it, but not sure if we'll get to stop there. Sure would like to see the OK City Memorial site though.

Idblond We'll surely miss you on the board, but will be in touch via email. My best to you!

Well, I'm almost out of time so I need to get back to email my dd. See ya'll soon!

Here is my contribution to MM from a book that I am presently reading. It is called "Soul Survivor: How my Faith Survived the Church" by Philip Yancey.

" . . .I came to see sex, money, power, and sensory pleasures as God's good gifts. Every Sunday I can turn on the radio or television and hear preachers decry the drugs, sexual looseness, greed, and crime that are 'running rampant' in the streets of America. Rather than merely wag our fingers at such obvious abuses of God's good gifts, perhaps we should demonstrate to the world where good gifts actually come from, and why they are good. Evil's greatest triumph may be its success in portraying religion as an enemy of pleasure when, in fact, religion accounts for its source: every good and enjoyable thing is the invention of a Creator who lavished gifts on the world.
Of course, in a world estranged from God, even good things must be handled with care, like explosives. We have lost the untainted innocence of Eden, and every good harbors risk as well, holding within it the potential for abuse. Eating becomes gluttony, loves becomes lust, and along the way we lost sight of the One who gave us pleasure. The ancients turned good things into idols; we moderns call them addictions. . . ."

This passage struck me because I have long considered my out-of-balance way of handling food an actual sin, with is simply doing things contrary to the way God has intended for us to do things. Sin, of course, brings consequences--in my case overweight, and heaven only knows what my insides are like--and these consequences are what God wants us to avoid, as any loving father would want for his child. Its hard to face the fact that I'm so rebellious and head-strong! Furthermore, as we (I) learn to eat without food having such a grip over me--as Sparkle says, eating like a thin person--then I truly would be demonstrating that food, in and of itself, is good, and is a blessing to be enjoyed and used for optimum health.

And lest anyone jumps all over the first sentence, in context it is not saying that licentiousness regarding sex, money or power is just fine, but that in a godly context they are not evil, per se.

Got in my weights workout today, along with walking on the TM. I again had to quit after about 20 minutes because the ball of my right foot, right behind my 3rd, 4th, and 5th toes was very tender and started to ache, so I decided not to press it. I think the rest of my body could have gone on for another 40 minutes. Aggrevating!

OMIGOSH!! Gonna have to talk to my family back home. They are OBVIOUSLY falling down in the support category for the DAWGS. My momma's gonna have to take them boys some more home made cooking. She used to work in the recruiting office - maybe she needs to go back to helping them! Guess it's already a "Wait till next year" season. Glad Meister's team is continuing to kick butt. He still pumped that USC is actually having a really good season. I'd love to participate in the rivalry on the board, but wimps really shouldn't be picking fights. (I STILL don't like the Gators though! ;) )

Sorry I didn't get to meet TREE with GATORGAL. My wonnerful husband took me shopping for some CD's that I wanted. Got me some Harry Connick Jr., Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bare Naked Ladies, Cranberries. (Kind of eclectic taste in music, you think?) Then we went on a treasure hunt for the perfect little foot stool for me. I'm taking a class on the week-ends and all the chairs are too high for my short legs. I wanted something discreet that I could collapse down and carry with my books and set up when I got to my seat. After about 6 stores we found the PERFECT stool at K-Mart. It's a "Turtle Stool" and it's hard plastic, lightweight and folds up with a little handle. Only $10 and now I will have happy legs. :D We topped the evening off with dinner at Outback. MARIE, they have sweet potatoes on the menu here. I had the salmon steak with steamed veggies. Tonight we're having trout marinated in a Jerk marinade. It sounded soooo good.

Well, the job hunting saga continues, too……Company #1 (who had wanted to offer me the job, but the position got cut by the Sr. VP) called again on Friday. There has been reorganization in the company and the new Sr. VP of the dept. the position got moved to DOES want to fill the position and they still want ME for the job. BUT……the HR person said she had to get the VP to sign off before she could "officially" offer me the job, but wanted to make sure I still wanted the job. I told her YES, but, alas, no phone call today. Very odd. I do have an interview on Wed. with another company and will certainly go to that. Who knows what could happen. I would like to have a job by the end of the month.

Eckerd is running a program here where if you buy your Halloween candy from them and you don't use it all you can return the unopened packages to them and they'll refund your money. If you buy late and only open one package at a time then you only have to withstand having it in your house for one night. If you have kids tell them this is the one time they don't have to share!

I read all the posts - I think - but I know I won't get to everyone…..

BUSDEB - AWESOME PICTURE!! Thanks for sharing it!

BOB - I'm glad to see ALL the SEC teams aren't doing so bad this year!

GATORGAL - I used to have that problem with BOTH my feet. After about 30 minutes the balls of my feet would cramp up and feel like someone was squishing my foot at the ball. It was very painful. I went to the chiropractor once and he did something to separate the bones in there - it felt good and I haven't had the problem with my right foot since then and now it seems to take longer and longer for my left foot to start doing that again, but it hasn't gone away completely. Some things I started doing is making sure my shoes aren't too tight. I started loosening my laces as loose as they could be and I got arch supports. That seems to help.

FILLISE - I have almost always used protein powders. Vince, bless his heart, does the research on the powders to find the best one that works with whatever diet I'm on at the time. I will get with him and give you a run down on the best for us. We were using one that I LOVED, but last time we went to get some more the guy at the store said they were having it tested independently because they thought the carbs were off. They were WAY off - so now we're using SCI FIT - Econo Whey Protein it has no aspartame in it. I usually have 3 egg whites and cereal or oatmeal for b'fast - mid morning I have one of the individual pkgs of cottage cheese or yogurt mixed with the protein powder and a little fruit. It does a great job of keeping me feeling satisfied and keeping my protein up without adding lots of fat. (and it's FAST)!

MEL - The gym GATORGAL and I go to uses the weightlifting technique where your goal is to lift weights for each body part to failure which should be 8-12 reps. (e.g. leg extension machine - lift X lbs. to failure in one set. When 12 reps are achieved before reaching failure it's time to add weight) It is really hard, but really quick since you're only doing one set per body part. I like it and it seems to be working. Meister pulled something in his neck working out and has been in pain since yesterday. He called in this morning and said he'd be in to work after he was able to get in to see a chiropractor. I hope the chiro can "fix" him. It's so hard seeing someone you love in pain.

LIZ - Hopefully it will help you feel better to know that many, MANY of us have been in your shoes. Every other diet I was on had me stark raving starving and miserable. When I started SB and checking in here and learned that I needed to add more protein and more calories to my day I was frustrated trying to figure out how to fit more in when I was already stuffed! Planning my food a week at a time and putting the whole day into FitDay in the morning or the night before helped me see BEFORE HAND what I had planned for the day so I could adjust my menu ahead of time and see if I needed to change anything. Some of my favorite ways to get my protein is non-fat plain yogurt (Dannon brand) with one pkg of splenda, protein powder OR fruit: a taco salad with only lettuce, refried beans, tomatoes, .5 to 1 oz. of cheese (measured), salsa and low fat sour cream - no chips or Triscuits, etc.. (Vince thinks I’m going to turn into a taco salad). Now I'm discovering falafal, hummus, tabbuleh and other wonderful ME items thanks to DEBBIE. AND the wonderful lentil recipes that MARIE posted on the recipe board. In all actuality I should go back to FitDay now that I'm plateauing and I've lost 11-12.5 lbs. depending on the day. Keep asking questions we'll help as much as we can!

LAMAP - So good to hear from you! I love water aerobics, but they don't have it anyplace here that fits into my budget.

**** ON WHEELS - SORRY, I JUST LOVE THAT HANDLE FOR YOU! You said, "I do plan to get back to the totally no sugar lifestyle but I have some more pressing issues to deal with before getting back to the “forbidden” food concept, which tends to drive me nuts." You don't have to go to "totally no sugar" ya know….there is a balance and there are substitutes AND there are less cravings once you detox somewhat. You are always welcome here and you always contribute and many ways probably have no idea how far your posts reach.

VIV - I hope you like the SB for Kids book. I don't have kids so I didn't read it from that perspective. Someone here had mentioned that it was easier to understand regarding the plan and so I thought I'd check it out - the recipes at the back were a double bonus for me. :) I have tried quite a few of them and Vince and I like them a lot. The Curry Tuna recipe alone was worth it for me. I used to have pretty bad cramps and PMS and when I went on BCP's they lightened considerably.

DEBBIE - WOW!! CONGRATS TO ELI!! What an honor! It sure is nice to enjoy your work, but to also know that others recognize how hard you work for them. Will we get an updated picture of the new "doo" ?? Inquiring minds want to know! I will DEFINITELY look for that cookbook. I bought some olive oil today and there's an offer for a Mediterranean cookbook for $2 in it. I think I'll order that too. (my spell check doesn't know what to do with all these "foreign" dishes either!)

JOHN C - Welcome aboard our SB train! You are definitely at the right place for answers and support! Camaraderie this season will depend on which SEC team you root for….. :D I have a bottle of Stevia you can HAVE! We bought it and it is too bitter. Can't seem to get the hang of it.

NASCAR - I'm soooo sorry that #18 car got into that pileup at the end. I really thought he was going to be Jr. It looks like he thought he had enough room to get back down, but didn't. I was waiting to see if there were going to be gloves flying in the garage. I was pulling for Jr. so's I can't say I'm not glad he won. I was standing up screaming and yelling in the living room. You'da thunk I was there in the stands with you! Really stinks to make it that far that good in the race to be knocked out because of a crash. Poor guys.

IDBLOND - So sad to see you go. Come back ANY TIME!!

MELF - Glad to hear you're having a great time!!

SEF - Glad to hear you're going to be around for a lot longer!!

Hi ladies. Wow so many posts to catch up on already, it’s great to see all the activity in here.

Debbie
You’re right that I plan things out too much, I’m just now learning to live in the moment and let the future take care of itself.

I tried some concentrated unsweetened cranberry juice one time which is good for bladder infections. I think I could do shots with that stuff since I don’t drink anymore, it’s that much of a rush!

Good luck with your hair!

Jeanie
Feel free to email me at any time. It’s chris@shapeshakers.com. And thanks for the encouragement. Hey 20 pounds is a big milestone.

Mel
Quite the compliment from your daughter! Doesn’t it feel great?

Well, I do want to point out that the menu I posted was only temporary to get me “detoxed” from sugar and back on track, so I don’t eat that way EVERY day. Besides I didn’t have anything prepared since I’ve been so neglectful lately, so had to eat what was quick. BTW, I’ve been contemplating my psychological “need” for something sweet. I only lasted 1 ½ days without something sweet. Then I had some (quite a bit) of a healthy dessert I made with Splenda and a few breath mints. Still no sugar so we’re getting somewhere.

The cottage cheese baked square things tasted good but smelled a little odd. I will leave out the soy protein powder next time, and definitely add some flavoring as you suggested, was just trying to get some kind of base going.

GatorGal
Thanks for the feedback on “the way thin people eat.” Your words are so true. I have a hard time understanding how people eat normally, just a routine part of the day, when in constrast, I am totally obsessed with food all day long. I want to get to the point where eating is just automatic, but even after all this time I can’t even imagine the concept. I don’t want to think of myself as a “compulsive overeater” or an “addict” like they kept telling me in OA. But I DID find out from this little experiment (eating sugar again) that my brain chemistry is definitely more sensitive to sugar than some other people’s.

Glad you’re feeling energetic today. Thanks for checking out the website. I am less fanatical than I was last time I updated the site – I guess I’ll always be a little extreme about things, but I have learned not to try to change other people’s way of eating (although I don’t mind sharing information....hehe)

BusDeb
Thanks for sharing your picture with us. You have a lovely smile!

Running out of time so I have to speed things along here. Yesterday the cooking adventures continued full force. I made a sort of casserole with brown rice, hamburger and eggs, layer with lots of spices and veggies. And a fresh pear custard pie which didn’t quite turn out (It was more like oatmeal than pie oops) but still tasted good and the meringue turned out PERFECT – it was my first try at meringue. (Having fun with the electric mixer) I’ve discovered that Splenda does very well in baked goods especially custard based dishes. I think I’ve gone through three dozen eggs in the past few days ;)

Gotta run, busy day.

Love,

Chris

Aren't y'all lucky!:s:

I just finished upgrading the memory on my laptop. I did it all by my lonesome and it was so easy--it seems to be working too.

Hmmmm, nothing involving computers is that easy.

Smoke is probably going to start pouring out my my computer at any second.

If you don't hear from me for a while, you'll know why--HA!

SOL--I feel the same way about my beloved NC State Wolfpack. Halfway through the season and already looking forward to next year. . . . Sigh. At least my precious tigers are doin mighty fine! I hope you get the job hunting thing straightened out. I hate having to wait for someone else to move--hang in there! Where do you buy the protein powder you mentioned?

Gator--I recently read a book on Sabbeth keeping that says in the Jewish tradition one should make love every Sabbeth. In fact one tradition holds that couples should make love 4 times over the sabbeth! The book also suggests that the pleasure of a special sabbeth meal is a way to honor the sabbeth. You are so right--sin lies in the peversion of God's good gifts. I certainly have perverted the use of food in my lifetime.

Melf--sounds like the trip is fun--enjoy!

Liz--get right back into the program and your slip will have only minor consequences.

Lara--we will miss you. Please know that we will be there for you regardless--if you need us please holler!

Deb--so how's the hair?????

Evening All:wave:

:D I love my hair! I didn't go as blond as I had thought I would, the guy said if I did I'd have so much upkeep with it and my darker roots would come bursting out quickly. So, I told him to do what he thought was best, and he did-the color is so natural, I couldn't be happier. He blew dry my hair straight, that is taking me some getting use to since I've gone au natural with my curly hair for the past 6 years or so. He used this hair iron that's ceramic, not metal and I can't begin to tell you how straight my hair is, not only that, but silky! NEVER in my life has my hair felt so beautifully silk, always coarse and crunchy! It just looks so healthy! This guy definitely knows what he's doing!!! He's got me hooked - now I just have to explain to the gal who did my hair for 20 years why I'm changing-I think I owe her that much. Anyhow, I had Michael take a few pics with his digital video camera, they came out crappy and I had to try and fix them with the program I have on the computer. I tried to post them, they were too big, so will work on getting them reduced and uploaded tomorrow.

Other than that, I did nothing today, I didn't get out of there until after 3pm (he had some other clients in between and boy, this guy can talk! ) Came home famished, made a chicken salad sandwich and had to run get Lauren, grocery store, then Michael-couldn't get on the computer until now.

FILLISE, glad to see you pumped for the week!:D Hey, one-half pound more is your 65lb mark-WOO HOO!!!

CLAUDEL, any local HFS should carry it. I use STEVIA PLUS, it has no maltodextrin in it like some brands. If you have a VITAMIN SHOPPE in your area, they should have it too. If not, there are sites on the web, Ancients of the Wisdom makes Stevia Plus.

LDBLOND, I'm sorry you are going, we are going to miss you, but I totally understand that there's a lot of things going on in your life at this time. You know, you are always welcome back at any time. I hope you will convince NANCE to get on the ball and get back with us! Thanks for that MOTIVATIONAL POST!!!!

BUSDEB, glad to see the picture came through so you could post it. Please make sure to post it the PHOTO ALBUM BOARD so it can be there for all to see at any time;)

ROSALIE, hope dinner with the family was nice-hey, it's not even a holiday and you have a family get-together! Hope you had a good badminton game today:)

TV, hey, do you need a Fl Vacation? I could put you up at the DETOX DUNGEON and have you come help me clean-you could spend a good couple weeks down here! LOL! Good luck this week, stay focused and remember when you are tempted that you have a goal you'd like to make;)

JMUIR, hoping yout WIW isn't as bad as you think. Remember, you have to eat in EXCESS of 3500 calories of what you normally would to gain a pound, so lets hope that wasn't the case. Hope you found some interesting classes to take at the gym.

LIZERY, I guess you figured out the colors, or was that a fluke? Let us know if you did indeed figure it out. So you stumbled a little this weekend, as long as you are back on track, damamge control shouldn't be so bad! The problem is when you go off and keep running away from the wagon vs jumping right back on it. Yes, the calories are too high, but your ratios if you were to take in that many calories were better. Hey, Rome wasn't built in a day, at least you are trying and seeing how keeping track can be quite important. If you could make your journal public, you can send me the link-it is ONLY public to people you send the link on to, so if you want, I'd be happy to take a look and give you my opinion. E-mail me your weight again and I'll give you your ranges.

MELF, thanks for checking in and letting us know you are making it safely to your destinations. I'm sure you must be staying OP as best you can under the circumstances, don't worry about being OP 100%, as long as you don't go hog wild, which I know you won't, you're doing fine.

GATOR, are you going to have your foot checked out, or have you already??

SOL, reading your Outback outing got me hungry-I love the salmon there!!! Def. a good place to go while up in Orlando next time, at least one place we could hit-always guaranteed a good meal there. I truly hope this company calls you back-it's really not fair not to give a courtesy call to people when they know they are waiting for an answer!
Good tip about Eckerds, I don't think they are doing that down here-and imagine me not knowing if they did, the kids' Dad works there! What's the name of the ME cookbook that's being offered??? I guess when we come up there that I'll have to bring some of my cookbooks???

SPARKLE, how did you make the meringue? I too love meringue, but haven't made any yet.

BOB, he says it's on retail, he doesn't believe that includes the coffee, but he will double check to be sure. I don't think there's a limit to what you can buy. Will let you know as more details become available.

Okay gals, I'm outta here for the night. I'll check in with you tomorrow morning!

Good Evening Ladies!

I am trying to be better about posting and reading this week. Last week and the Ladies' Night Event here really took it outta me!

Have been exercising like I should. Ran 7 miles yesterday and lifted weights tonight. Hoping that the increase in activity and muscle mass will help get the weight off. Anyone ever see their weight increase after months of loosing followed by beginning to exercise. I wonder if I am rebuilding muscle that I lost during my initial weight loss. I wasn't exercising then, really only started in mid-summer. It's just a theory.

Had to get new running shoes, pair I had were too short and my 2nd toe on my left foot has a lovely black toe nail from the blood blister that has formed underneath the nail. Luckily the place I get them from (RoadRunnerSports.com) allows members to return shoes within 60 days of the purchase for any reason, no matter how worn. They allow non-members to return shoes up to 30 days for any reason. The membership is nominal and has already paid for itself in free shipping, product returns and discounts. They also sell walking shoes, apparel and products. Check it out!

I have to admit that I've PURPOSEFULLY  eaten a few peices of Halloween candy each day but I promise it is ONLY in an attempt to wake my metabolism. Someone told me that a nutritionist suggested that eating something that you don't normally eat can "wake up" your system. I am proud that I have been able to keep myself controlled with the amount of candy that I have in the house (2 parties plus Trick-or-Treaters!). Last year at Halloween I started SB, this is the first time since then that I have knowingly cheated with candy. Don't feel any real guilt about it.

This Friday DH and I are going to see the Carolina Hurricanes play (pro hockey). He's been once already this year, this is my first time to see a pro team play. I've enjoyed the minor league teams I've seen. Should be a fun night. Saturday is the Halloween party. DH is going as a Viking!! My wig and dress are haning out to de-wrinkle. Am thinking about borrowing the digital camera from work to take some pics of the party.

Now I'll try to respond to my peeps!

DEB and BOB - I have the program for the race. It came! Here is the info that I can offer you.
The race is on January 6th. Start time 6:00 a.m. I expect to finish in approximately 5 hours (11:00 a.m.).
Spectators will be allowed to enter only certain areas of the park/race route without paying park admission.
These are as follows:
6:00 a.m. - Marathon and 1/2 Marathon Start. Expect to see BOB there bright, make that dark and early!
6:55-8:50 a.m. 10 mile mark - Magic Kingdom/Main Street USA.
I estimate that I can be there in approximately 1:45-2:15 hours. You have to access this via the monorail from Epcot. There are signs that will tell direct you to the monorail and where along Main Street you can view the runners, but will not let you into the park, therefore, no admission is required. The return on the monorail takes you back to the Family Reunion Area and the finish line at Epcot.
7:10-9:25 a.m. - 12.7 miles mark - Floridan Way Viewing
This is accessible via monorail or car. I remember this was a great place for spectators last time and there wasn't a big crowd. At this time I estimate that I will be there in approx 2 hours to 2:30 hours.
8:20 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - 26.2 miles mark and the GLORIOUS finish line! :D :D :D
The marathon finish occurs in the Imagine Parking Lot at Epcot and admission is not required.
I believe that it will take me approx 5 hours to get to this lovely stage of the race.

PLEASE save this info! If y'all anticipate buying park admission I will let you know where the viewing areas in the park are. Thre are some at Animal Kingdom, Disney-MGM and Epcot. Personally, the best areas that I remember where Floridan Way and the Finish area.

Hope this info is helpful. If you want to email me your mailing address I will be happy to photocopy the entire brochure and mail it to you. It is very Disney and they've left nothing out!

DEB - I am having the fiber Dookie Howser problem too! I have eaten a salad, 2 apples, and Uncle Sam's today and nothing's moving! Not even the gym tonight helped! :dizzy:

Congrats on 19 months! You have ceratinly earned the right to be VERY proud of yourself. You go girrrrrllll!

HAIR PICS!! HAIR PICS!! - OOOOO I just saw them and I'm editing my post. DAHLIN you rook MAAAAHVALUS!!! Your hair even looks silky! Who cares about the make-up, we are all too busy looking at those locks! And the sign is cute too!

FILLISE - Sounds like you and Miss Belle are getting along great! Glad you are having a great day. I see that you found Fresh Market. Love to get the 70% cocoa Lindt bars and some good ol cashews there. Everything else is too expensive! Nice store though!

BUSDEB - You are such a pretty lady! I bet you're the prettiest bus driver in all of 'Bamalama! Have I asked you 1000 times where in AL you are? I get you and TV a little confused. I have NO memory! I'm sorry :?:

NASCAR - So glad that Jr. won. I remember about 8 years or so ago I went to the May race and there was a wreck like that at the end with Dale, Sr. and Rusty! I am pretty sure that my dad, bro, BIL and nephews were at that race too. My dad calls Talladega "Talladigga" with his southern accent. It always makes me smile. My uncle died at that race track 2 years ago at the Busch race. He had special parking so he was very close to the track and was going to meet up with the rest of my family. He got out of his truck and collapsed. Massive heart attack! It's sad, but a kinda funny tribute to the "red neck" race fans that we (my family) are. "You might be a red neck if... a member of you family has ever died at a Nascar race" I loved that uncle dearly and miss him. He had a great sense of humor and could laugh at himself. He would certainly see the humor in it that I do. He was a sweet and gentle man. RIP Uncle Billy  .

LDBLOND - I wish you nothing but the best. Go in the direction that you are lead. And if it brings you back to us, we'll be here for you.

ROSALIE - I always want to play a lil badminton whenever you mention it. I bet you have a great time at it.

TV - Love the witch graphic! Cute!

LIZ - Are you sabotaging yourself? If you have one event where you slip up, or a meal, or a day, that's OK. And it's good that you are being honest with yourself. Just get back on the wagon as you say you are. I too am having trouble locating lean sources of protien. Will let you know what I can come up with if you'll do the same.

MELF - Happy Vacation!!!

SOL - You and have the same ecletic music tastes! I have some of the same groups that you have. Did you get the new Cranberries' CD? Do you like it? I have 2 of the older ones, love 'em. I got Micheal J's Thriller last weekend. Must be one of the only people in America that didn't own something by him. Now I want Madonna's Immaculate Collection. I also like Bluegrass, Country, Jazz, but I love Funk, Hip-Hop and Disco. If I can shake my groove thang to it I'm a happy chick! Good luck with the job hunt! Keep on keeping us updated.

Well Ladies, that does it for this evening. Hello to anyone that I may have missed. Hope you have a happy sugar free day tomorrow!

Peace,
FROG

Good evening everyone :)

Liz - I think the reason that fibre is given no percentage of calories on Fitday is because fibre is part of the total carb content so the calories are counted in with the carbs. If you check the nutrient content on a cereal box you should see what I am trying to explain. It looks to me like you had plenty of protein to-day. The percentages are off because of the fat. What kind of meat are you eating? I find whenever I eat beef, even if very lean, it always shows up on Fitday with a very high fat content. Even fish, like salmon, will push the fat content up even though it contains the so called "good fat". If my fat content is high due to eating salmon I am not too concerned but I have been trying to avoid too much red meat. I've been eating more chicken and frequently have vegetarian meals with lentils/peas/beans as the protein source. This helps to keep the fat down.

Ldblond - Sorry to hear that you are leaving us but it is good to know that the board has helped you in your weight loss journey. You'll be missed.

Deb - Congrats on your 19th Month SB Anniversary. You should be very pleased with yourself for staying with it and reaching goal. Your hair looks beautiful. The guy did a great job. Had a good badminton session to-day. Played about four games. I didn't have to cook anything for the family to-day. I fed two of the boys (who were going out with my ds) sweet and sour pork that I had made yesterday. I gave the other two guys a choice of the same or going out to eat. They chose to go out of course which was fine with me.

Melf - Glad to hear you are having a good holiday. Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Solshine - Your Outback must have a completely different menu to ours. Ours has no sweet potatoes and no salmon. It's mainly steak, chicken, shrimp and 'fish of the day' plus steamed veggies and salads. I've only been there once and was quite impressed with it. I was thinking I might go there this evening with my dd if we were going to be eating alone but she had the two younger gc's with her so went to a fast food place instead. I won't post what I ate tonite but it was definitely not SB. But the rest of the day I did fine. Had falafels again for lunch to-day and have some to take to work for lunch tomorrow. My dil bought a package for me. One I hadn't tried before called 'Cedar' and it was quite good. Hope they make up their mind soon about that job.

Frog - Have you tried eating prunes for the DOOKIE HOWSER problem. This usually works for me.

Busdeb - Great picture.

Well, I have to get ready to hit the sack. Have to get up early in am. Hi to everyone I have missed.

Have a good SB day tomorrow.

Nite.

Marie.

Morning Ladies!
I didn't get to check in yesterday, I was working out of town. Man what a race! Did you see me at the top waving?:D
Well I got a tan in October! It was so hot about 80! What a race I was so ill at the end! My man wrecked on the final lap;went sailing in front of me on his hood! It was so smokey and scarey! So glad he got out of that car!
Fellis - Jr did well, But they said yesterday his car was illegal :o on the set up so they fined them $25,000 of course that's not a drop in the bucket seeing how he won the Million!

TV - I know you were thrilled! Jr. did well! He said he's keeping wilson in the car with him the rest of the season! (his lucky volley ball!)

Ok, I did alright on food but did drink some wine (white zin) so that was bad, but it was so hot I walked it off climbing those 34 flights of stairs several times so maybe I burned some calories off!;)
Back on track today! Going to the mountains for the weekend and shopping (a girls trip) so should be fun!
Debelli - congrads on the loss! and for 19 months you deserve an big hug for sticking to your SB that long!!! You are my inspiration!!! I hope I do as well as you have.
Gotta run! Will try to check in later!

SOL--Thanks for the info regarding my feet. I have a good chiropractor, so maybe the next time I go to him I’ll mention it and he can manipulate my feet. He sometimes does that anyway, where he “pops” my toes, kind of like someone pops their knuckles, and it is not pleasant. Not to me, at least.
DEB--I think I’ll go the chiropractor route to start. I’ve had so much done to my feet over my life: had a stress fracture of one of the metatarsuls, a stress fracture in my heel bone, and a neuroma for which I had to have surgery. So, I’m not anxious to go back to the dr.

DEB--Your new hairdo makes you look about 15 pounds thinner, even though I can’t see your whole body in the pix. But I certainly thins your face. I think it is beautiful. I hope it is not difficult to keep it that way because I think it is definitely a keeper of a style. Also, it highlights your eyes, which are very lovely. Instead of seeing “all that hair”, now your face comes shining through, and it’s a great looking face.

I have French class on Wednesdays, so, lucky me, I won't be here to greet the little hobgoblins on the 31st. So, I won't be buying any candy and we will just turn off all the lights, both inside and out. And if any of them venture up to ring the bell, no one will be here. We live in a pretty close neighborhood ( I know it doesn't sound like it with my halloween comments) so I suspect there will be some trick-or-treaters out, but I think that a lot of churches will be offering parties, instead, to keep the kids off the streets this year with the anthrax scare. Parents can't be too careful.

TREE still has 3 days here in Orlando. She's returning home to AZ on Thursday, after the convention she is attending ends.

Been feeling a bit punky the last few days, and probably have not had my quota of calories. Just thinking about food sounds yukky.

Well, will sign off for today. Want to prepare my homework for French class, have some other reading to do, and want to start sewing a suit for myself. That way I can tailor it to fit. Have a great day all you losers, and even you non-losers!!! :)

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone:wave:

I'm one of those people where the numbers make a impact on my day. Yes, I admit it openly, I'm a number watcher! If I step on the scale and like what I see, it's a good start to the day. I liked what I saw this morning, down another 1/2lb. Just one pound up from my all time low-not too shabby!

After taking Michael to school and running late because we had to swing back by the house for a book he forgot, I had to make a decision about my walk, make sure I walked/jogged with a little extra effort or shorten it. Eli had to go in early meaning I had to get back in time to take Lauren to school. I put forth the effort of trying to keep a good pace and HAD MY BEST WALK/JOG TIME EVER!!! I did it in 48:31, 28 seconds better than my previous best time-needless to say I was shocked, as well as happy:D So, with that in mind, my day is starting out just peachy! Though, it wasn't so great dealing with the 94% humidity!\

When I woke up this morning, my hair still looked great and felt great-umm, after my 4.5 miles, it no longer looked so hot. The humidity frized it up a bit, it's wet from sweat and alas, it's not looking too hot now. Oh, well, guess that's just the price I have to pay, eh?

So today, I'm REALLY making sure I stay right on target with my foods, not that I really waiver much anyhow, but with WIW looming over tomorrow, I really would like to post a loss on the WEIGH IN BOARD-at least if I stay the same as I am today I'll be able to do that!

Today is TUESDAY TIPS and I just thought that even though I posted a similar list long ago, it was worth posting a new one about SUGARS.

Sugar

Sugar is another ingredient that can hide under many different names. If you see any of the following words on a label, beforwarned; it's sugar!

Brown sugar is sugar crystals contained in molasses syrup with natural flavor and color.
Confectioners' sugar is finely powdered sucrose.
Corn sweeteeners are corn syrup and sugars derived from corn.
Corn syrup is a syrup produced by the action of enzymes on cornstarch.
Dextrose is an older name for glucose.
Fructose is sometimes known as fruit sugar or levulose.
Galactose is part of the disaccharide lactose.
Glucose is sometimes known as dextrose or grape sugar.
Honey is sugar formed from nectar (mostly sucrose) gathered by bees.
Invert sugar is a mixture of glucose and fructose formed by the hydrolysis of sucrose in a chemical process.
Lactose is commonly known as milk sugar.
Levulose is an older name for fructose.
Maltose is sometimes known as malt sugar.
Maple syrup is a sugar (mostly sucrose) purified from concentrated sap of the sugar maple tree.
Molasses is a thick brown syrup, left over from sugarcane juice during sugar refining.
Raw sugar is the first crop of crystals harvested during sugar processing.
Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol, which can be derived from fruits or commercially produced from dextrose.
Sucrose is commonly known as table sugar; beet sugar, or cane sugar.

Sugarless does not mean calorie free, and many sugar-free products will not contain table sugar, but may contain other forms. With the advent of all the different fat-free products the consumption of sugar by Americans had increased in 1991 from 132 pounds to a whopping 152 pounds per person, per year, as of 1997!

BUSDEB, thanks for the nice compliment-I truly don't know if make-up helps-either way, I think I have that washed out look!

FROG, not only do I commend you for running as you are, but purposely eating candy and being in control of the situation, WOW, you are inspiring;) I know if I had just one bite of any of that candy, I'd be a goner. Thank goodness for SB LEGAL chocolates! I hope maybe this will kick-start your system. Your muscle theory may be right. I guess it's just to continue on with a wait and see attitude. Bottom line is, are you feeling good-if so, that's what's most important! Thanks for all the info on DW, I would say def. spectator not park. I'll print the info and keep it in my SB FILE and let you know as the time gets closer what plans we will make. Have to look at the kids' school schedules. Do you think we could plan something over the weekend-would just have not to spend some time and only be able to root you on for a few minutes. Let us know! Glad you liked the hair pic-gosh knows what it will look like when we meet!

ROSALIE, thanks for the nice hair compliment-at least the kids won't be plucking out the gray hairs for a while now-they're camouflaged!!! Good that you didn't have to cook a big meal for everyone, but that S&S Pork sounded mighty good-I don't think I've ever had it before. Can it be made SB LEGAL?? When we went to Calif. to the OUTBACK there, the lady looked at me oddly when I requested the sweet potato-guess they don't do it at all the Outbacks. The salmon and mahi mahi are considered FISH OF THE DAY down here. I have mine made on the open grill-yummy!!!

NASCAR, glad to see you had a good time at the race. Don't worry about the wine, I'm sure you burned it off one way or another. Mountains-ahhhh, lucky you! I do WISH we had a mountain here in Fl-a hill even, SOMETHING but the flat pavement!!! Hope you have a great time this weekend with your friends-sounds fun! I'm sure you'll do great on SB-thanks for thinking so highly of me:)

GATOR, your hair comments were so nice. It made me think about what my BIL said to me the other day when we were at my niece's party. I asked him "did you get a picture of Ainsley and her cake", he said, "yeah, Ainsley, her cake and your mop of hair!" I guess it had gotten a bit over fluffy with being so long. I also thought it wasn't doing my face much good having it framed around it, though it does take some getting use to having it straight. Of course, it will never look as good as when he did it yesterday. He used a straighting iron, but a ceramic one, so it doesn't burn the hair-I would love to get one for Lauren and I to use, so that may end up being her big Hanukkah present that I will have to borrow from time-to-time. Thanks for the nice words, 15lbs lighter, oye, I can see my Mother now-she's say for sure I look emaciated!!! LOL!!! I commend you on the French classes, I would love to take another language, but I just don't think I'd retain the info-hey, next time we come up, you and Eli can converse-he's fluent in French. My son Michael is in his 5th year of it as well.

REMINDERS!!!! TONIGHT IS CHAT AT 9:15PM EST Anyone planning on showing tonight???? ALSO, TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY! I hope everyone has good luck with the metal monster tomorrow!!!!

Okay, I'm outta here for a while. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Just checking in!

I haven't had too much time lately. Didn't get thru last week's board and haven't had much chance with this week's board yet.

PICTURES: BusDeb-you're lovely. Wish my photos turned out so nice.

Debelli- I LOVE the hair. It really suits you. I hope the upkeep isn't too difficult, but hey, if it is, YOU'RE WORTH IT!

COMMENTS/INPUT GREATLY APPRECIATED:

I found an ad for this stuff called "Diabetex" by Webber vitamins. It's a kit with a bottle of herbal formula and a bottle of mineral combo. I haven't checked for it at the store yet. Probably kind of expensive cause there was a $3.00 coupon. This is how it was written up:

"Diabetex contains herbs and nutrients known to effectively assist in the metabolization of sugars. Certain herbs and nutrients can reduce complications associated with the oxidative stress due to inadequate utilization of sugars. Proper metabolization of sugar is essential in the control of type II diabetes. Chromium and Vanadium are minerals that have been shown to reduce insulin-resistance, helping those with type II diabetes better control blood sugar. This dietary supplement provides a balanced ratio of these minerals."

Sooo, what do y'all think? Is this something that could possibly help some of us? Has anyone used this stuff? I'd appreciate hearing what you ladies have to say. If I thought it might me worthwhile, I'd give it a try. I would still try to keep to the SB WOE, but since I'm rarely 100% OP thought these might help. The parts about assisting the metabolization of sugar and reducing insulin resistance jumped out at me.

The munchkin got sent home from school with pink eye the day before his b-day party. Not a very nice present:( Had him home all last week. Had all his stuff ready to send him to school today, and last night the pink eye started up again. He's also had a cold for a month and his ears were starting to get infected and a week with antibiotics didn't seem to help. So back to the doc today. Kind of frustrating cause this kid could throw a cold in 2 days. But I guess he's getting new bugs being in school.

I had BAD weekend.:( Went to my cousin's for dinner. He usually has meat and veggies and salad and potatoes (I figured I'd just skip these) so I didn't question him on what he was serving. He had out veggies and dip (love those red peppers) and this yummy flatbread that I had to try. Then dinner was a yummy mushroom and veal lasagna. NOT ww noodles. :^: So not too, too bad there. Sunday I had a craving for popcorn! And to wash it down, I had a pop. Havn't had pop in months. Now for the past couple of days I feel bloated and the scale went UP 2 lbs:devil: (I refuse to change my sig) Today I must get back on track. Have to get groceries, so I can stock up on good stuff.

Gotta go now. I'll try to get to reading at least this week's board. I thought this "Diabetex" stuff might be of interest.

Take care everyone!

*yawn* I'm not awake yet.

Just a quick one to Debbie

I LOVE the hair! I guess it would be high maintenance for everyday, but it looks awesome. I can't tell the color, but it looks brighter and goes well with your face. BTW, I'm going to stop arguing with you about the arms, but wanted to say that your face and neck show NO SIGNS of your ever having been so heavy.

Meringue: Put 6 egg whites in a metal bowl, being very careful not to get any yolks, oil or water in the whites. If you are doing something else, refrigerate the whites in the metal bowl for a while. Add 1/2 tsp of cream of tarter and beat with an electric mixer (using the eggbeater attachment) until foamy but soft. GRADUALLY add 4 packets Splenda and 1/2 tsp vanilla or almond extract, while continuing to beat. Beat until stiff peaks form (but not until dry), roughly 5 minutes or so. This will make enough meringue to cover a large pan, so if you're making one pie, cut the recipe down.

To set the meringue, spread evenly on top of some food item and bake in an oven preheated to 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the top is nicely browned. If you are putting this on top of some other baked good you will have to bake the other thing first, or use something like a stovetop custard.

I made a lemon custard that was quite good, using egg yolks, skim milk, Splenda, lemon juice, vanilla extract.

However the meringue shells I attempted to make to go with them (you are supposed to dry them in the oven overnight) are definitely STICKY. I guess that recipe doesn't apply to Hawaii! So I'm trying to bake them right now....hehe.

Anyway, as you all can tell I'm getting excited about my anti-sugar crusade again. I haven't been limiting the amount of food I eat yet, just eating healthful foods and trying to get the mad cravings under control first. I already feel a lot better emotionally.

Check in later!

Chris

Man - already on page 2 and its just Tuesday!! WOW!

I have to say that my oldest, Justin, looked outrageous this morning!!! This is "spirit week" at school for him and today was - CRAZY HAIR DAY!! We wet his hair a little, put a good bit of gel in it and kinda did a 1/2 Elvis, 1/2 spike job on him. He was slick above his ears and had spikes on top! He looked so funny!! Yesterday was college football day, so he wore his Auburn shirt and hat. Tomorrow is twin day so he will pick someone in his class and they will dress the same. Thurs is hat and sunglasses day, so he'll be  . Friday is green and gold (school colors) day, so he'll be decked out! I think it is more fun to dress him up for this stuff than it was to do it myself when I was in school!! I just can't get the picture out of my mind of him walking in looking like he did this morning!!

DEB - I love the hair!!! Are you gonna try to keep it straight?? I have a head full of naturally curly hair too and have never had experience with "silky straight hair" myself!! Is it great or what?!?! Your picture was just fine - I had to go back and look again after you said you had no make up on, just to notice. You look great!! I wish I could make a trip to FL - the detox dungeon would probably do me some good!! My cleaning spurts are just that, "spurts", they come and go. I need them to come and STAY!!;) -- BTW - congrats on the jog time and 1/2 loss!! I knew you would come back down!

SolShine - I've got my fingers crossed that your phone will be ringing today!! :)

BusDeb - love the picture!!

Bob - I watched "Third Watch" last night. I thought they would never get to 9/11 !! Now I'll have to remember to watch again next week - I guess that was the idea, huh :s: !

Zanne - hope your munchkin is better - Pink eye is the pitts :( Don't sweat over the bad weekend - just get back on the wagon and start fresh again!

Fillise - I'm impressed!!! I get nervous when I have to do stuff like that to my computer!!

Will check in later!

Just a quick HI- the day seems to disappear and Andrew will be home in a minute or 2 and we can re-enter the battlefield of homework. I got in a 1 mile run, 2.5 mile walk, then a heavy weight workout after work today, then went for a haircut at a new cheap place that opened near me. Unfortunately, my results were nowhere near as good as Deb's:?: and I don't know what to do. My usual reaction would be "oh well, it'll grow" but we are having an 80th b'day party for my aunt this weekend with loads of people I haven't seen in years, so this was real bad timing for a bad hair month! Should have skipped the cheap place!

TV-sounds like you're having so much fun with your son! He sounds like a great kid. Mine and I just seem to set each other off arguing all the time:( He's at the pooint where he's decided I really am stupid, and can't imagine how I've survived this long on my feeble brain power and knowing so little about how the world really is. Oh well, this too shall pass.

Deb- You and your hair look fantastic!!! "Long and silky" is not a look I'll ever be able to do.
It used to be long and wild, but now short and wavy is about all I can cope with. Right now "butchered and wavy" is my look. But your's isFANTASTIC! :D

Frog- It's got to be the muscle!!!! I'm eating 100% on plan, but doing heavy workouts, and I haven't lost anything in about 3 weeks. I have to believe its the muscle- otherwise it would just be too depressing! But I can definitely see muscle changes in my body, so something is going on. I bet if you look at yourself, you'll see shape and firmness changes too that would help to explain the stalled or even gained weight.

Well, the little darling son is home- gotta go
Good luck for WIW tomorrow-

OK--the computer is still working!!!!! I did the up grade in order in preparation for installing the new Windows XP. They say it is much more stable---my Win 98 is anything but!

Good day today. Got lots of good productive work done--and then an intense workout--well intense for me. I upped the weights on two of my upperbody machines and got it 45 min of cardio.

Eating is also good today. I'm giving up the Fitday journaling for a while. I have done my best when I do what the books says and don't count calories or grams of anything. When I am keeping track of those things I become obsessed with food. It is all I think about, and guess what happens--when I think about food all day long all I want to do is eat! I've not thought about it much today and it has been a much better day.

The fitday journals have been useful in helping me to understand portions and from time to time I will go back to it if I think I need that help again.

Deb--the hair looks FAB:cool: You'll have to get you one of those ceramic doohickies. I think I've seen them at Sally beauty supply--or maybe it was QVC. My hairdresser won't let me lighten my hair--and I do whatever Bradley tells me to do  In order to get him to cut my hair I have to let him wax my eyebrows. But I have to admit, having nicely shaped eyebrows does more to bring out my eyes than anything else. It just HURTS! :dizzy:

BOB--you know you think the Tide is evil :s: I may have said it, but, admit it, you were thinking it! Congrats on the BCS ranking--you've outdone Fla. Too bad they don't use the BCS to determine who goes to Atlanta in December!

Sparkle--the merangue sounds delicious! I've got a recipe for lemon goo that I want to try this week. It's kind of a lemony, cheesecakey concoction. If it works, I'll post it to the recipe board. Have you tried any of the cheese cake recipies that are on some of the older boards--they are quite tasty!

Frog--it's got to be the added muscle mass. Have you tried taking your measurements? Even though my weight loss has slowed, I'm still loosing inches and have gone down another size in my slacks since summer.

TV--you,me,and frog all seem to be in the same boat!

Merlis--oops--need to send you to see Bradley! Just hold on to your eyebrows! How short did you get it cut? This reminds me of a cartoon I saw once. There was a sign in a buauty shop that advertised $10.00 haircuts. The sign in the bueaty shop next door advertised: "We fix $10.00 hair cuts!"

NASCAR--glad you had fun at the race. Did I ever mention that I was almost born at Darlington?

Zanne--I don't know about that stuff. I tend to be suspicious of the magic pill approach to weight loss! I'd talk to my Dr. before I started taking anything.

I hope everyone has a good night. I'm fixing my favorite dinner--Steak and steamed artichoke--YUM:)

we could just get a little red wagon and you could pull me along with you....that way, I could cheer you on the WHOLE WAY!!!
You know something that might help you with your stall...eliminating the bad things from your diet/body...because of my allergies, or as I have found out...food intolerances , I'm in the process of doing away and detoxing my body....wheat, gluten, cow dairy, corn, cornmeal (haven't been eating these two anyway), cabbage, mushrooms (mold), olives, brussel sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, eggplant, avocado, melon (mold), blackberries, strawberries, oranges, tangerines.....basically, my Dr has me following the blood type WOE...I can still fit in my SB, because everything we cant eat on SB, I can't have on this either. This is supposed to eliminate the bloat, fluid...etc...at THIS POINT...BOB WILL DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES!!! I'll send you the link to the food list and you can look it over...

I will be on a field trip tomorrow to the Pumpkin Patch. It will be an all day affair so will probably not post at all tomorrow .....will be back on Thursday. I will post my WIW then.
Good luck to all on WIW.

Hi all. Yes, it's really me. Just have a minute though. By the time I remembered it was chat night, it was all over. Sorry I missed you. Maybe my peabrain will remember next week.

Here's a link to an interesting article about low carbo eating. I thought it was pretty good. Didn't bash SB, anyway. http://allhealth.healthology.com/focus_article.asp?f=beyond_dieting&c=truthlowcarddiet

I'm still really struggling and my resolve lasts until noon, it seems. I will get it together, I WILL, I WILL, I WILL!!!

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone:wave:

Don't have time to post a big message, Eli's off today and I have to go get ready, so this will be brief.

WIW was good for me, finally. I'm still up from my lowest by 1/2lb, but I haven't been able to post a loss for WIW since Oct. 3rd, so I can now officially post a 1 1/2lb loss! BUT, in the past 6 days, that terrible mysterious gain I complained about 2 weeks prior, has come down 4.5lbs! See, told you PATIENCE does pay!:D I best bask in my glory, next week I'll surely be up again, TOM is due, of course, on WIW!

Got in a measley 3.5 miles today, slow and steady today, was too tired, was tossing and turning from 2:30am, on-had a weird dream that woke me up. Plus, 100% humidity-how enjoyable is that!?! And yesterday, I pulled something in my upper thigh that didn't hit me until late last night, still bothering me today, but better than it was. I thought about taking today off, then went out and down the block almost turned around and came home, then decided I would do 2 miles, so doing my 3.5 was not so bad, all things considering.

Thanks to FROG, BUSDEB & MEL for coming to chat last night:) Always fun to get to "talk" to you all real time!

Gotta get in the shower-will try to get on to post this evening, after AMAZING RACE, if not before.

Please remember TOMORROW IS RECIPE DAY so if you have any SB LEGAL RECIPES you'd like to share with the board, please, try to post those tomorrow,

Have a wonderful day!

I think I stayed the same 175/151/13? but I have to look back for last week's post to make sure. Anyway, I'm happy w/ it since now it's solidly 151, not just a fleeting glimpse! Today is my 3 month anniversary of this WOE. :D Didn't make my 25 pound goal, but I'm only 1 pound off. Still hoping to see 150 or lower for end-of-month. That may be a battle tho- big birthday bash for my aunt's 80th is at a chinese restaurant with all their mystery ingredients, and TOM is getting so flakey I no longer know....
Yup, just checked last week's wiw post, no change. But last week I think I ony weighed that for a nanosecond, and it was after being "intestinally distressed" the night before. So now it's for real.

I think my rate of loss has slowed to about 2 pounds a month- at the rate I'm exercising I figure I should be disappearing rapidly. Any suggestions? Ok- I know the muscle answer, I've given out the muscle answer to others, but really- I'm still FAT!
How come that's not disappearing????

Nice chat last nite Deb, BusDeb and Frog. I got in late, did I miss anybody else?

Deb- Did you weigh your hair loss? Maybe I should have cut mine even shorter, tho I think that would require the poodle clippers! Good for you for walking even tho you had to keep talking yourself into it. I find that if I've pulled something (as long as it's not lower back), walking always make it fell better in the long run. Or maybe just feeling virtuous or martyred makes it feel better. Just don't worry about setting land time records then- just moving the parts and getting the stretching and blood flow benefits help.

BusDeb- Have a great day in the pumpkin patch with the kids. I haven't done that forever! Last time we came home with the 80lb. prize winner from the field. We didn't attempt to carve it, but after Halloween, my dh chopped it up with an ax, then I baked and froze enough for 30 pumpkin pies. Yum! Too bad pumpkin pie isn't legal. It's my family's all time favorite, but only from fresh pumpkin, so it is a major production.

See you all later, hope WIW is kind!

I'm down 1/2 lb!! As my 2 yr old would say "Faray!". Went to a really cool workshop yesterday called Brain Gym. Very interesting info about how the brain works...assuming that mine actually does.:dz:

Deb: Your hair looks great. My niece hates her curly hair. I have to pay for mine to even have any body, let alone curl. Maggie has super curly hair and I have no idea what to do with it. It's not long enough now to really be a problem, though. My friend has started calling her Shaggy Maggie.

HAPPY DANCE TIME!!!
I GOT A JOB!!!!!

The company did a reorganization and the position I had applied for was moved under the Sales Department and that Sr. VP approved the position! Got a formal offer yesterday and I start MONDAY!!! My new manager called this morning to tell me how excited she was and that she's looking forward to working with me! How cool is that!?! YEAH!!

AND TO TOP IT OFF..........I'm DOWN 1.5 LBS.!!! Today I can officially post 195.5 lbs. Been a VERY LONG TIME since I've been able to post something that low! Now I can't wait to break 190!

MARIE I hope you have equally excellent news!!

DEBBIE LOVE THE HAIR!!!! And, MAN O MAN, don't I wish I looked that good with no make-up on! AND, why am I not surprised that you have neat handwriting, too?!? Thanks for posting the picture for us to see and rejoice with you! I know when I'm having a bad hair day it doesn't matter one whit what the rest of me looks like - it's just an ugly day. With hair like that every day will be a glam day!

FROG - Got the schedule for WDW - I've put it someplace SAFE. I'll get a map and figure out how we can be cheering you on at as many places along the marathon as possible. We'll be FROG'S SUGAR FREE FAN CLUB!! I'll get with BOB on some cheers we can yell when you come racing by. Don't worry about BOB getting up in time - we'll buy some EXPRESSO for that morning and remind her that if she stays awake all day she can have UNCLE JONES' BBQ "NUTHIN' MO BETTA" when the day is done.

I got the protein powder at a place called "Wholesale Nutrition" - they are hq'd in Orlando and place ads in all the muscle magazines. The address on the SCI-FIT The Scientific Approach to Fitness....." Econo Whey Protein bottle is SciFit, 140 Pennsylvania Ave, Oakmont, PA 15139. Surprisingly they don't have a web address or phone number on the bottle at all. (How 20th Century!) I would imagine that some HFS there would probably carry it. We got the 5lb. bucket for $28.99 - there's 80 servings in the 5lb. bucket (it's huge). Vince has at least 1 scoop a day and sometimes 2. I have a scoop maybe 3-5 days/week so it's the best value for us although they do have smaller quanities for sale. You can do lots with protein powder - add them to milkshakes, milk, yogurt, fruit, etc.

MEL I'm so sorry to hear about your bad haircut. I had shoulder length hair once and went in for a "trim" and came out looking like that little girl in "Waterworld" after Kevin Costner cut her hair with his knife!! Vince had to laugh when I told him that's how I felt I looked because he KNEW it was true! That's the only time I've ever cried over a hair cut. It was about too short to "fix" and they just had to keep trimming it as it grew till it eventually looked OKAY 9 months later for my wedding. Maybe that doesn't help you feel better, but at the very least it gives you something to giggle at.

AAAaaaarrrggggghhhh!! I was going to address a few more people, but can't remember who and what......senior moment......I'll go back through the posts later and add another reply tonight if I can.

This is ugly--it got hot here and I'm retaining water like a sponge. The scale is up 4.5pounds this week--I know it is water because my rings that were loose suddenly became tight when it got hot again. I remember this happened at the start of the summer. A cool front is supposed to come in tonight, so here's hoping we spend ALL day tomorrow running to the bathroom!

Sol--Congrats on the new job. You go girl! I loved the cartoon!

To all today's losers! Way to go!!!!

To all those who stayed the same--I'm jealous. After all the b***hing about stalling--it is a heck of a lot better than a 4 lb gain!

Got to go--Belle has decided that it is fun to bat my fingers as they type--can't domuch now!

Hi EVERYONE!! We made it to the next leg of our traveling yesterday afternoon. I  the local Public Library !! LOL Found this one with my aunt's help this am & had a free computer, so I signed in for an hour of use so that I could read a little of the board & catch up a little with what's going on.

Debbie Sounds like your visit at the beauty shop went really well. Funny how people with curly hair wish for straight hair & us with straight hair wish for curls! OMG!!! I just found the pic of you with the new do! Makes you look so different. You look thinner too! Personally, I liked your curls, but as long as you like it! That's what's important!! :D You're right about not going "hog wild " with the eating. I have worked too hard taking this weight off to do that. When I do have to eat something off plan, I take very little.

Busdeb Thanks for posting your lovely picture. Always nice to put a face together with a post! :)

BOB dh & I thought of you yesterday as we got to Waco, our first stop was at a Starbucks at Barnes & Noble. AAAAAWWWWEEE it was soooooooooooooo good! ;)

jred Did you see us waving to you around 2 PM yesterday??? Well, I waved, not dh cause as you know, you can't take your hands off the wheel or eyes off the road as you drive thru there. OMG!! What traffic!!!

SolShine! Doing a HAPPY DANCE here for you!!! Congrats on the loss! I'm going thru scale withdrawal here, I can't find a scale to weigh in!~! :( Hey, love your lil patriotic granny on your post there! hehehe that's a really cute one!

Fillis Girl, don't sweat that fluid gain too much, it will come back down...or maybe sweating is just the thing to get rid of it??? LOL Just a play on words here. No kidding, hang in there & it'll come back off.

Lizery Yea, I need to work on my fats too. I have started recording in a journal all this week & plan to try to enter it all into fitday.com as soon as I get home to see where I am with the percentage. Sounds like you're still doing great though. Keep up the good work.

Thunderwoman Where are ya?? Thought about you the other evening as we saw a sign pointing your way. Is dh in this week? Is that why you're MIA??

Hi to all of you that I may have missed. SEF, ROSALIE, FROG, SUSAN, GATORGAL & EVERYONE ELSE

WIW BOO!!!

Okay, we're just not even going to talk about what the scale said this morning. Sufice it to say, it was ugly. I'm beginning to think I read the scale wrong last week. I really need to get a digital one.

Other than that my day is okay. My dh is having snoring problems, so I haven't been sleeping too well. Any one got any suggestions??

SolShine - CONGRATS!! I know what a great feeling it is to have someone want you.

To all the other losers, YEAH!! Someday, I'll be with you again.

Hope everyone has a good Wednesday.

Hi all,

Hows everyone doing well I hope! Glad to see the losers lose this week and those that didn't keep on keepin on it will go. I went up the first of the week and then this morning lost what went up plus one more lb. :D I don't know why the ups and downs. Maybe the fat has mood swings:lol: . Sorry I haven't posted lately but my child was out of school for 4 days. The teachers went to a workshop in Florida for 2 days. So we had a long four day weekend.;)

Melf he is home but he got layed off yesterday morning.:( But the good thing is he has 5 apps in at different places. There are 2 that is most promising tho. We're just waiting for them to call. We may be riding to Texas ourselves for a pysical. The good lord provides all we have to do is ask and make a special effort.:) Glad your enjoying your trip be careful and have fun.

Solshine congrats on the job. I know your jumping about 10 feet into the air.;) Good luck and congrats on the weight lose to. Loved the cartoon at the end of your post. I don't know how to insert those things into my messages.

Debelli the hair looks great. I think you picked a winner. Sorry I missed chat last nite we have a revival going on at church and I hate to miss, (I'm afraid I'll miss something there);) Congrats on the scale moving down again.

Well hope everyone has a great day!!!! And happy losing.
Bye ya'll talk to you all later.

Just got home and wanted to tell you all my results of WIW. I am down 2 more pounds. Everyone was noticing and commenting today. That makes a total of 20 pounds so far. Doing the Happy Dance here.
Pumpkin Patch was great. Will tell you all about later when I have more time.

Hi ladies!

Before I know it I’m awfully far behind!

Susan
Interesting thought about perverting the use of food. I guess it’s not “wrong” to use food for other purposes than nourishment (such as comfort, pleasure and entertainment) But I think I have used food in the past (recent past even) to deliberately HURT myself. I don’t think of it so much as a “sin” as an emotional problem I have that I’m slowly fixing. Well just a random thought.

I’ll go hunt for your and other cheesecake recipes. I came up with something interesting yesterday (more below).

Froggie
I guess you already know the importance of getting good running shoes, not to mention replacing them after every three months or however thousand miles. ;) I really admire you for running the marathon again. The best part of finishing a marathon to me is, that I NEVER HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN!!! Hehe.

I think the way you’re dealing with candy is healthy and commendable. I thought I could do the same thing and did successfully for a while, but then things just spiraled out of control. I have discovered through trial and error that I can have “just a bite” of every food except chocolate, particularly chocolate candy. Once I start back in on the chocolate candy I literally start acting like a drug addict. Too bizarre. So more power to ya gal!

SolShine
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW JOB, SONYA! WHOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!

How exciting for ya! Hey thanks for the info on protein powder. I was waiting for you to post something on that. I got a 4 pound type bucket of something very expensive I think it’s called Cell Tech. It’s supposed to be the best whey protein out there. Well I haven’t figured it out for sure, but I THINK it caused some extreme noxious gas (details spared). ;) So I’ll have to be brave and try it again to see if it really was the protein powder, and it’s too late to return it argh.

Sorry, I missed your post to me last time, maybe because we were posting at the same time (whoohooo) so I just wanted to let you know that I read it. In response? Well, since I wrote that post you quoted, I’ve (as I posted) discovered that waiting until I “feel like” stopping sugar is just never going to work because the more sugar I eat, the more depressed I get, and the less energy I have to put into eating right. So, the more sugar I eat. It’s a downward spiral of the worst kind. So I’ve decided to try a NEW (old) tactic, which is “force” the nutrition part back into place, and then worry about stuff like work, gym, cleaning house. For a while I was just going through the motions (for example during my workouts) but feeling too tired and depressed to give it my all. So that’s why Saturday I totally cut out anything sweet OR refined (the nothing sweet only lasted 1 ½ days but it was a good kick-start) and since then am happy to report that I’ve been ON THE WAGON!!!!! I am not restricting my portions until I get the sugarfree thing down pat again. I’ve been eating kind of a lot, but healthful foods, and not bingeing. I already feel much better and am getting on track with work again and other things (except the gym, but thinking about it ;) ).

Debbie
Thanks for the info on hidden sugars.

Susanne
Sorry to hear about your kid. I had pinkeye as a kid alot, and a serious eye infection recently so I know how much it sucks!

TV
Shoulda taken a picture of Justin for us! ;) Sounds hilarious!

Mel
Have you fixed your hair yet? Have you considered a very short, chic haircut? I took the plunge and went very short and I love it.

Now color is a different story. I refuse to get my hair colored professionally so not only have I ruined the bathroom walls and bedroom carpet, but my hair always turns out weird and I have to run out and get more dye, usually spending more money than if I had gotten it colored in the first place! The last episode, I had redone my highlights to dark blonde and wanted to blend the highlights with my almost black, grown-in hair in the back. So I thought I would use a light blonde dye, which would just even it out a little. Well by the next day it was BLONDE all over, platinum on the top! Argh! So I had to run out and get some dark dye and was dyeing my hair purple (that’s what it ended up being) 20 minutes AFTER I was supposed to leave for the airport for DC. Such is my life.

You can make perfectly legal pumpkin pie with Splenda...ah, the magic of Splenda! I haven’t figured out the crust part yet thought, I’ve seen recipes with Triscuits or Special K for a crust but it looks suspicious to me. You could make a crustless pie, however.

:)

Running out of time to post AS USUAL. I’m happy to report that I’m getting back on track dealing with the stuff I have to do at work. I even led a meeting for one of our construction companies about the pension plan by myself while my boss was out of town. Although I didn’t feel 100% prepared I did a good job. I think I have identified some of the things that were causing me to lose concentration and not do as fast of a job as I used to be able to.

The cooking adventures continue. I am not sure if I mentioned the ah, ha, CUSTARD. I did the meringue thing to this fruit custard after about 30 minutes, baked it for 15 more and when I took it out, the meringue was set but the bottom was still completely liquid! It was just like a waterbed. So I had to take the meringue off and rebake the custard. It wasn’t that great but I ate some of it anyways. :) At least the lemon custard sauce (a separate thing) turned out.

So I was determined to take another stab at this dessert like thing, even though I’ve been baking an awful lot lately with questionable results. It was late last night but I was seized with an idea. So I took some bulgar wheat, which I THINK is SB legal, it’s pale brown in color but doesn’t seem to be very dark when cooked. Cooked it and mixed it with a little butter, Splenda, vanilla extract and one egg, and spread it on in a layer at the bottom of a glass baking dish.

Then I took a few cups cottage cheese (2%) and mixed it with eggs (I didn’t take out some of the yolks this time but you can make it with less yolks) Splenda, vanilla extract and lemon juice. Dumped all of this in the blender, it was VERY easy. Poured it on top of the bulgar wheat mixture and baked the whole shebang for an hour. It tasted remarkably like cheesecake and was balanced in protein/carbs to boot. Made a yummy breakfast, cold.

Okay gotta go!

Love,

Chris

I have good news!!! :D :D :D

I am down a pound from last week!!! Y'all know how good that feels so I am extatic to share it with you! YIPPEEEE! I am not even letting th fact that I am still 7.5 pounds over my lowest bother me, it is just too wonderful to see the wieght go the other way! I felt thinner/healthier today, even before I got on the scale, think the running and gym have paied off.

I have just come from the gym. Ran up there (~3.5-4 miles) and lifted. DH came and picked me up when I was finished. He's so sweet!

Have 1000 things to do tonight, in-laws coming by tomorrow to drop off DH's b-day presents while we are at work. Gotta make it spiffy! Some of y'all have been around long enough to know my stories about MIL! Haven't spoken since the b-day party in May. Oh well.... Also gotta wash the funk off! I always feel like I leave the gym wearing other people's sweat!

Have continued to exercise excellent restraint with the chocolate, in open bags  I might add. I know that eating it will make me sick, so why bother?

I appear to be having another TOM like last month. :?: Spotting a week early with tiny cramps. If no period next week I'll be going to the "Carribean Gyno" (Old SNL Skit!) or at least making a call again.

Congrats to all of you who've lost and a big "hang in there"to those of you who aren't seeing the scale go the way you want.

I can't log off without saying this:

SOL - CONGRATS to you honey. You are having a banner day!!! Love the sign and cheer ideas. I am REALLY excited about FINALLY getting to meet everyone. If you want to email me your snail mail addy I can photo copy and send you the technical logistical information.

I know there are so many of you that I need to respond too but I really gotta say adios muchachos 'cause I stink and I gotta straighten the old casa del Frog!

FYI - Next few days are gonna be really busy for me, so if I'm not posting, just know that I'm always thinking about you and hoping that you're having a happy and blessed sugar free day!

SOL - Congrats!!!! Not only did you get a job, but it sounds like the job you wanted. I'm really doing the happy dance for you!

We are off to St. Louis in the morning to see DH's brother and wife. Real short trip, we will start back to Madison Friday late afternoon. Then we have to go somewhere Sunday that's a two-hour drive each way. Our butts will be sore.

Hope you all have good weekend!

solshine- I knew you'd pull through! Congratulations!!!! It must have felt really great to FINALLY get that phone call! I am doing pirouettes for you ( don't try to visualize that! )

Sparkle-It's (my hair) too short to do much with- remember , I'm on the downhill side of 45- purple punk would NOT fit in the suburbanite look. Oh so tasteful. I'm afraid to color it myself because of exactly stories like yours! So for now, I only go to dim places with rose colored walls, and lit with candles. In my dreams. I think next week I'll splurge and have it professionally done to whatever color it used to be- seems to be medium brown in back where it's REALLY short, and grayish blond in front.
Your cooking adventures sound very ambitious- I'm just sick of the kitchen and afraid if I try anything adventurous I'd blow all my control and eat a whole pan of whatever.

Congrats BOB on the loss!:)

I finally found agave nectare! Now I have to think of what to do with it. I think I still have a bag full of that 80lb. pumpkin in the freezer, so I may try out some sort of pumpkin pie filling. But somewhere I read that pumpkin is not legal. Any opinions? Also, will try adding a little to the "organic" cottage cheese I bought the other day that tastes like plaster of Paris. And I usually love cottage cheese, so this stuff is particularly aweful.

Frog-Your candy strategy is interesting- I don't think I could do it with regular candy if it was something I really liked-snickers, reeses....but I can manage a 1/2"X1/2" of 73% chocolate every couple of days, and ignore the rest of the large bar in the cupboard. I don't know what the difference is.

Busdeb-whoooo! two pounds! good off ya, girl! Glad you had fun with the pumpkins.

I just have time to check in. My week is very hectic. No change on the weight today. There are factors and I feel like I have a bowling ball inside me. I need to preach to myself today. Patience, patience. I signed on to fitday and discovered that I'm eating only about 800 calories a day. I think I need to up that intake some, don't I?

Chris: You are doing so well! I can tell through your posts that you are feeling better. I admire you for the cooking. I wish I had the time and interest in experimenting. My DS and my dad are wonderful cooks. I can, but I don't really have the time to spend in the kitchen. I do make every effort to cook meals for my family. I never have done a lot of take out or eating out.

Deb: Love you new do. It's always fun if you have someone who knows what they're doing. Right, Mel? I love the lighter color.

To all the losers this week: Congrats! To the rest of us: Keep focused. Fillise: You know you are going to start back down. That cool front finally started moving thru NTX this evening so it's headed your way!

Sol: WHOOO-HOOOO on the new job! Sounds just like the one you were waiting for!

Night everyone.

Solshine - I am so happy for you - a new job AND a loss this week. I AM DOING THE HAPPY DANCE FOR YOU WooooooooHooooooooo.

I stayed the same this week, as usual, but I know that is better than a gain. A couple of days ago I went down to 195, but this morning when I got on the scale at 5 a.m. it was 197 but it was down to 196 by 9 a.m.

Deb - I'm sure the S & S Pork could be made SB legal. The only illegal ingredient would be the pineapple but I think if you substituted pineapple juice it should be O.K. (The pj has a gi of 46 compared to 66 for the fruit.) I'll try and get the recipe posted tomorrow - I just have to remember everything that went in it. :)

Frog - Glad to hear you are starting to go down again.

Bob - Congrats on the loss this week.

Congrats to everyone else who lost this week and to the others just hang in there. Hopefully our turn will come soon!!!!!

Marie.

Good Thursday Morning Everyone:wave:

Sorry I was sorta of MIA yesterday, Eli and I were up in Broward and when I came home, Michael was on the computer, then Lauren, then AMAZING RACE came on, then Michael was back on the computer again. He's been hogging it for his AP EURO homework, trying to get an "A" in that class (very hard to do). The teacher told us at the OPEN HOUSE that last year only 40% of her students passed the course:eek:(usually it's 60-80%-still, I don't like those numbers!). It's an extremely hard course and is the equivalent of a college freshmans course-so, of course, homework comes before BOARD WORL:D

Eli and I had a great day yesterday. Of course, we just do the "usual things" when we go up to Broward-lunch at Ole Ole was absolutely wonderful and Carbolite was NY Cheesecake and Vanilla flavors-yummy!

On a good note for the morning, I already got in my 4.5 miles (barely), the humidity is still up at 96% and we are to have possibly a record high down here, near 90 degrees:eek: Though tomorrow, we are suppose to have a cool front (see, I don't say a cold front, we rarely get those down here) and I'm really hoping this one materializes-they said the same thing last week! Also, I'm happy to report that I'm back down to my all time low of 121:D Last Thursday I was up 5lbs-again, that patience paid off!!
Again, I don't have a lot of time to post, have to get ready to run a couple errands this morning. I do promise to get back on here later today and reply to all the posts, which I have indeed read. Here are a few replies to posts that I'm able to fit in before I have to go. Please be patient with me, I promise to get the rest of my replies in later;)

ZANNE, thanks for the hair compliment. I went au natural yesterday and back to curly. I won't do it straight all the time, but nice once in a while to be different, easier to do the curly look though. The color is what I'll have to up keep better than I have been, and since the guy is cheaper, I can see where I can go back more often than once a year. I've never heard of DIABETEX, but personally sounds like something I wouldn't try. Why don't you see exactly what's in it and ask someone at a HFS if there's something equivalent (herbs) and what they think. How'd the Dr. visit go-hope your little one is better!!!

SPARKLE, thanks for the explanation on the meringues, I have recipes for them, but haven't made them today-in the baking mood today, but not sure what I"ll end up making, if I do find the time. Thanks for the hair compliment. I may go lighter next time. LOL, you haven't seen my "turkey neck", trust me, there's nothing on my body that doesn't hang-just ask BOB & NANCE, they'll tell you!!!

TV, sounds like Justin has a fun week of school being able to do those crazy things. Michael's school does that stuff as well, but usually he doesn't dress up and take part (bore). HIS latest thing is to wear pajama pants to school:eek: My son, the fashion statement! Thanks for the hair compliment. Like I told ZANNE, I'd like to blow it straight sometimes, but most of the time keep it curly, easier to pull back and clip when I walk than when it's straight, looks better all around.

MEL, what the heck did they do to your hair that could be so bad?? Until this guy who just did my hair, I'd been going to the same girl for 20yrs and only had my hair cut twice by someone else, once when she was pregnant, at SUPER CUTS and walked out crying-but when I did it myself (blow dry) it wasn't AS BAD as how it looked when I left that place-the other was when I had it done on RODEO DRIVE at Jose Eber' salon. I bet if you maybe put a headband on, or something cute in your hair, it wouldn't be so bad. Hey, if I can get silky hair, ANYONE can-it's this BIO SILK stuff he used and this ceramic hair iron that did the trick. Thanks for the hair compliment!!! Congrats on the 3 MONTH SB ANNIVERSARY!!! Also, being on solid ground with the 151 ain't so bad either! Congrats on being so close to the goal you wanted. Even though you didn't make it exactly, look at the whole picture and the progress you have made. CONGRATS!!!

FILLISE, good for you on the weights, wish I could get into doing weights! Thanks for the compliment on the hair. QVC huh? I'll have to check that out. I haven't checked SALLY'S yet, but a beauty supply store that sells only to professionals is $99, same as the guy could get it for me, but did find one for $49 that's ceramic on the web-no hurry, I'll shop around.

BOB, glad you like the hair-tis different than what you've seen:) You had me LMAO with your comment to FROG and the red wagon, just the image of that in my head was a hoot! Hey, does eliminating all that stuff help keep you from FARTING???

BUSDEB, I have to agree, the chats are fun and if someone hasn't been into the chat room, they don't know what they're missing!!!

KAREN, glad to see you checking in, even if only a moment :) Thanks for posting that link to that site. I haven't checked it out yet, but you always seem to post interesting articles/links, I'm sure to do so when I get some time.

MUSIC, FARAY on your 1/2lb loss!!! Thanks for the hair compliment. Cute hair looks adorable on little ones and nice on older ones as long as the cut is nice, when it gets too long and unruly it looks more like a raggy mop. I use to hate my hair too and would straighten it-we're never happy with what we have, I guess.

SOL, DOUBLE CONGRATULATIONS!!!! What wonderful news!!! Congrats on the job and on the weight loss!! Patience does pay off, doesn't it!!! BUY ESPRESSO, BUY? That should of been WHEN DEBBIE BRINGS THE COFFEE, BOB WILL WAKE UP EASILY, IT WILL BE STARBUCKS (COLOMBIAN FOR BOB)!!!!!

Okay, that's it for me, for now-will continue on later today.

TODAY IS RECIPE DAY and I plan on getting 2 recipes on the RECIPE BOARD later.

Have a wonderful day!!!

Wow - I missed Wednesday.

My WIW was still the same as last week, which I attributed the gain of 1 over my lowest to TOM, but that is over now.... don't know what the deal is?? I am setting a goal to be at or under the 140 mark by my 6 month anniversary on 12/4/01 - do ya'll think that is doable? If I make myself do the water and exercise consistantly, I think it will come on off!

159/147/125 since 6/4/01

SOL - I am thrilled for you!!! My cheerleader at the bottom is just for you! :D

Bus - Great loss - you are doing so good!!

Frog - yeah, I wish I had a picture too. He was awfully funny looking!

Deb - I agree - when you have the natural curls then it is too much trouble to straighten them out all of the time. When you pull your hair back and it is curly then it is easier too! Wise choice. Sounds like your son is giving it his all in that class - thats all you can hope for!

Gotta run for now - was late this morning because I had to go back to the dentist to have these temp teeth re-attached!! Yes, they came out yesterday - I looked hideous  - I could pop em out and back in too - It was kinda funny. The kids got a kick out of seeing me with just nubs for my front teeth. Too bad it wasn't Halloween already - I could have gone trick or treating with only a smile!!!

Hi Everyone!!!

Sorry it's been forever since I've posted.....So much is going on!!

1). I got a new job working for another Dr. who is a sweetheart. I've worked with him in the past, and the timing was right, I gave notice, and it's a done deal. I start November 1st!!!!

2). Dan the Man got a new job....A computer job, which he's thrilled about. I think he really wanted to do computers more than teaching, so it all worked out! He starts Ocotober 29th.

3). Decided with all thing considered to stay put and quit day-dreaming about moving, and we're in the process of refinancing the house. I am going to be able to buy new furniture for the first time in my adult life!!!! Hopefully the loan should be complete by next week, then I'll be doing the happy dance for sure!

Congratulations to all you loosers!!!! Everyone seems to be doing great OP. Before I forgoet, I wanted to say that the kids and I couldn't stand it, and I re-activated our AOL account so you can write me again at Nofingfane@aol.com

Debs-I know you probably think I'm one of those people that should be written off SB, but I think now that all this stuff is in order in my life I can get focused and DO IT!!!! I want to make you proud! I love the new haircut, I keep going back and looking at the picture and say WOW! Nadia just got about 6 inches cut off, and has a completely new look, it's so cute! I'll have to send a picture or break down and get a scanner! What's this 121 stuff I see posted????? HOLY SMOKES!!!!

Sol-Congratulations girlfriend!!! When do you start your new position? You must be besides yourself?!?!? You go girl!!!

BOB-I see we LOST some weight on WIW!!!!!!! You da' BOMB!
Please share with the less fortunate how it all happened?!

Well, as usual, gotta get ready for work. I feel like I've been missing a big chunk of my life...I haven't even been lurking and need to catch up on what the skinny is with everyone!

Good Morning Everyone!

The sun's trying to come out here. Had a storm last night and BIG wind. It's still pretty windy out, but not like last night. Past couple of days have been fairly warm. We could get away with wearing t-shirts.

I don't have too much time, but I'll try to get to most of you.

THANKS to all for your concern for my munchkin. He seems ok, but is terrified of getting drops in his eyes. I guess for a wee one, seeing something coming at your eye is scary.

ALSO THANK YOU to everyone for your input on the Diabetix stuff. From what the picture looks like, 1 bottle is an herbal mixture, the other bottle is minerals. I'm gonna try to find it and check the dosage and good idea DEBELLI--I'll question someone at the HFS.

CONGRATS to all the losers this week!!! There are quite a few.

MEL From Montignac's book and The Glucose Revolution (sorry, I just ret'd SB back to the library) pumpkin is 75. I have read in several places that say if the meal's COMBINED GI is low-moderate, that's ok. We all have to decide what's best for us. If you really want to make pumpkin pie, I posted a recipe for WW pie crust on the October recipe board.

You've got a couple of days before your Aunt's b-day party. Keep playing around with your hair and I'm sure you'll get it looking nice.

SPARKLE I can relate to your hair story. I was blond (kind of) for a day. I'm ususally dark auburn. Within 4 days I had stripped the color twice, and dyed it 3 times. I think I'll get someone to do it professionally the next time I want to be blond.

JMUIR Sometimes when my DH snores, I lightly rub his arm or shoulder. He usually stops snoring or rolls into a different position and stops. At least long enough for me to get to sleep. I have seen advertised these strips (kind of like a band aid) that go across the bridge of the nose and is supposed to stop snoring. Hope you get some sleep soon!

SOL I'M SO VERY HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! You got the job you wanted AND dropped 1.5 lbs. HOORAY!!!!!

NANCE HOORAY FOR YOU AND DH in getting new jobs! Once your life gets settled, you'll do just fine.

Ok, I'd better get going. Munchkin wants to "do something".

Sorry to those I missed. I have managed to read thru the posts, it's just difficult to respond all the time.

Have a GREAT day all!

Yesterday I was so frustrated that I completely went nuts. If it was off program--I ate it--and lots of it. The end result is that I feel crappy today. So far today I'm back on program, but that scale thing really p***ed me off yesterday.

Frog--glad the scale moved for you! It's a great feeling when that starts to happen.

Deb--$99.00-ey-wow. I'm used to paying maybe 10 bucks for hair toys! The weights are really great. I actually like the way I feel after I've lifted--and I am seeing results in my upper arms especially.

Zanne, I saw a recipe for pumpkin soup in the new Woman's Day. I thought it might be ok--but after your reminder about the GI of pumpkin--I think not!:^:

BOB--Way to go on the loss! WooHOOO! I'll take that any week!

Nance--welcome home! It's good that you and DtM are getting settled into new jobs! How exciting! Good luck to both of you on the jobs and on refocusing on nutrition.

TV--that should be plenty of time to get rid of 7 lbs. Justs remember that your body doesn't know from deadlines, so if it happens to go into one of those hormonal swings or something don't beat yourself up!

Sparkle--I'm thinking I might do the lemon goo tonight. I'll let you know!

I hope everyone has a good day.

Susan

As you can see, I'm back at the public Library. This is such a blessing to be able to come here & catch up with all of you. DH is over at a table studying for his extension course, so he doesn't miss me much.

Thunder, So sorry to hear of your dh's lay-off, but you are sooooooooooooo right, the Lord DOES provide. Not always in our choice of time frame, but certainly at the RIGHT time. Glad to hear that he has some leads already.

SolShine, you got a new job??? I missed that post I guess. CONGRATS!!!!

BOB, WOW!!! 1.6 lbs is wonderful!!! You're going in the right direction for sure. All that gym time is paying off at last! Keep it up girl.

FROG, WOOOOHOOOO!!! I am soooooooooooo excited for you!! The rest of that weight will follow, just hang in there. Persistence is certainly the KEY.

Rosalie, Sorry you didn't see a loss this week. I thought of you last night as I purchased an International Cookbook yesterday & it has a recipe for SPOTTED DICK. I remember when you had mentioned this dish after your holiday in England. Some other interesting ones in there also. Can't wait to get home & try out a few!!

Debelli See my note above to Rosalie about the cookbook??? I found several wonderful ME recipes in there & am soooooooooooooo excited about my find! Also got several other books that I'm going to be "combing" through. Really cheap buys. You would have been proud of me for my purchases. :D

Nance, Congrats on your new job & a double blessing for you both that Dan has found one also.

Well gals, my time is up & I've got to go. Gone to have lunch with my Nanny & cuz. Will be leaving here tomorrow & stopping over to see my dd in the Houston area till Sunday am, so will try to post while we're there. I'm really ecited that I have been able to keep up with all of you as much as I have, being away from home. This has been a really enjoyable week for me to spend so much time with family & friends.

Afternoon Everyone:wave:

Just got home a bit ago and decided I better try to hop on the puter before the kids get home to knock me off.

Went and p/u Eli at work, just a few minutes to get him to escape for an impromptu lunch at SHORTY'S - BOB, I sopped up some extra sauce for you!!!:D

Very happy to of found a book I had been searching to get my own copy of for a long time-patience once again paid off, I found it for $5 with the shipping! I've had this book going on 7months from the Library already, long out of print and Ebay wasn't coughing up any copies, either was Half.com-so I'm a happy camper now (as you see, it takes so little to make me happy).

Speaking of books, I was reading one of these free health mags you can get at the HFS and saw that there's a new book by APPLETON who wrote LICK THE SUGAR HABIT, called LICK THE SUGAR HABIT SUGAR COMPANION (think that's the correct title)-has anyone seen this one yet?? Going to check it out when they get in the copy at Borders-it's a newer book.

Okay, onward with my replies :)

FILLISE, I thought about you last night. In the morning I weighed 121.5 yesterday, when I hopped on the scale last night I was up 4lbs! How could that be? Well, it was all water-I drank so much yesterday it and let so much out, but boy oh boy, I really was retaining-I was so worried about the scale being up this morning I got on to see that I was down again, PLUS! So, don't worry about that water weight, you're going to blow soon, so stay near a potty and get something good to read;) Okay, just saw your post from this afternoon...glad you got right back on plan after that ugly episode you had-now tell us, how did you feel when you were eating whatever crap you ate?? How did you feel afterwards?? I don't mean to ask to put you down, but I truly learn from others experiences like these. Did you get sick at all?? I found one of those hair irons for $49, not sure what difference there is between the 2 besides price-not running to buy one right now, so will continue to do my "investigating".

LIZ, don't get obsessed over the numbers, just keep things in a range, it doesn't have to be exact. You don't want this WOE to take over every thing you do (like moi), but getting an idea of your eating will help. I don't journal every day, and even if I do, some days, I don't finnish (esp when we go out to eat), but I know approx. what I do eat-a little over, a little under won't kill you-it's the consistent under or over that does-just like that 1 piece of candy won't kill you, but make it an every day habit is another story.

MELF, you are just so cute, makes us all feel special that you will take this time out from your trip to let us know you are doing well and thinking of us:) You are so right, hard to find many who are indeed happy with their hair-I use to straighten mine when I was a kid, right up until Michael was born-people say they'd kill for my hair! I think many like the curls as well, my sister just said her and my BIL like curly better-I'll do both, mostly curly though, just easier. Great, new books, can't wait to hear about the new recipes!!! Are you like me when you go on trips? I visit HFS and interesting grocery stores when I travel-I'd never go hungry if we got lost in our car in the wilderness!

JMUIR, don't worry about the scale, I'm sure next week will be better. Hmmm, snoring, Eli snores up a storm, I sleep with earplugs EVERY night (even when he's not home like last week!). There's something that they say works well, but never tried it on him, I think it's SNORE something, some kind of spray-will find out the right name if you want. Otherwise, only other suggestion is to kick him when he snores-works for a little bit;)

THUNDER, CONGRATS on the pound loss-we all fluctuate, it's a given. If we didn't weigh ourselves each day you wouldn't know this, but since we do (most of us) we see these little fluctuations-there's no way around it. Just know it's not permanent. Thanks for the compliment:)

BUSDEB, WOO HOO-2lbs more, you're withering away each week!! CONGRATS!! Congrats on making that 20lb milestone. The way you're going, that picture is going to be outdated fast! Glad you had fun at the pumpkin patch.

SPARKLE, in one of these mags at the HFS there's a pic of a gal in an ad in there, could be your twin!! At least I think so. Would love to send it to you to see if you think the same. Pie crust, I have lots of recipes if you need one-may have one up on the board already-did you check? Yes, bulgur wheat is okay to eat.

BOB, you go girl! 1.6lbs-alright! VERY HAPPY FOR YOU!!! Race was good-love that show-can't wait til next week. Who do you think will win-hope it's not TEAM GUIDO:rolleyes:

FROG, what wonderful news!!! CONGRATS!!! I'm so happy, I know it's been hard for a while on you, maybe your persistence is finally starting to pay off. I hope this wonderful news repeats again next week.

MEL, you finally got the agave-WOO HOO! What are you going to make first? My MANDELBROT recipe is a good one, easy too-just remember what happens to me when I bake, I eat-so if you don't htink you can restrain yourself, or give it away quickly to others, I'd be extra careful with making things. We went through this pumpkin issue last year-according to the Dr. at the GRI, pumpkin is okay due to fiber, but in actuality it is high GI (part of the winter squash)-but remember, everything in moderation, and you are not eating it solo, so that also makes a difference. Why buy organic cottage cheese???

JRED, definitely you aren't eating enough, 800 calories is way too low-I don't remember your current weight, but I'm sure if I'm at 121 and eating 1400 calories, you either weigh about 70pounds or are not eating enough!!! Just e-mail me if you need some help. Thanks for the do compliment!!!

ROSALIE, LOL! You sound like me now, stepping on that scale, doing the best 2 out of 3. As you said, staying the same is better than a again. Usually, when this happens don't you have a loss come around? Here's hoping for you!!!!! On the S&S Pork, do you need to use pineapple at all-even the juice??

TV, it's take me about a week or so to get back down after my TOM, same for mid-cycle. Be patient, as long as you are OP, you'll be fine. I think your goal is doable, it's all in your hands and besides, even if you don't make that exact number, you'll be surely closer to it than you were 6 months before!!! I have a goal of 120 for the end of this month-usually, if I make my goal, I do so before the EOM and then gain, so in a way, I made my goal, but may go up at the EOMs actual date-but my point is-it's a goal, and however close you are to it, even if you don't make it, you are on the right path and you will get to that goal soon! LOL! I hope the Doc got your teeth back in-you must of given the kids a good laugh!

NANCE, OH NANCE!!! So happy to see you posting, get your e-mail and see the I/M that I missed being away from the computer, but having the gall to leave it on! I'll write soon, but will respond to your post first...CONGRATS!!! FINALLY, A NEW JOB!!!! So happy things have worked out!!! WOO HOO! What did the Dr. you're with now say when you gave notice???? CONGRATS to Dan! Boy, things have really worked out for you both-you both deserve the best!!!! And new furniture-okay, does that mean FLOYD THE FARTING DOG and TRIXIE, plus the 2 cats are going to be banned from sitting on it?? Oh, and THANK GOODNESS, you're back on AOL!!! Nance, I would NEVER give up on you, or anyone else. I know everyone has the power to lose the weight unless there's some medical reason for it-I know it's hard to focus on things when everything else doesn't seem right, but as you now said, you're ready to go-everything is falling right into place with you AND Dan and now that things are going to be better, it's time for you to take care of NANCY!!! You know I'm here for you any time. E-mail me, this def. deserves a phone call-we'll have to make a date:D

ZANNE, you're alot nicer to your DH when he snores than most women are!! LOL!!

WHEW! Well, I FINALLY got all my responses done, just in the nick of time too. Have to run get Lauren at school. Will get those recipes posted later tonight.

HUGS TO YOU ALL!!

OK. I know a lot of you have said you use fitday to journal your food. I have been using dietsite but decided to compare the two today. There is really a big difference in some areas, especially the protein intake. Has anyone else used dietsite? And does anyone know which one is more accurate?:?:

Good afternoon everyone

Zanne - I must have slept through that storm last night although when I was out to-day I almost got blown away, it was so windy. Glad to hear Munchkin is doing better.

Deb - I've never tried the S&S Pork without pineapple but you could give it a try and see how it turns out. You would have the sweet and sour taste with just the vinegar and sweetener but the pineapple does add to the flavor. Let me know if you try it. The recipe is also good with chicken. BTW I posted the recipe last night. I see you found yourself another bargain with the cookbook. :D When are you going to try some of the recipes? I haven't seen either of those other books you mentioned. I don't think I will ever catch up to you with the scale but it looks like I was trying to this week. I had cut it down to 2-3 times a week but I am back to daily now. I was up extra early on WIW as I had gone to bed very early the nite before so I had weighed myself before 5 a.m. and was just p......off that it was up a pound. So who knows why it went down a pound within a couple of hours. The lowest I have been, on two or three occasions, is 195 but it never stays there for more than one day. :(

Nance - It's good to see you posting again and I am happy for you that you've found a new job. Hope it works out well for you and you can get rid of some of the stresses you have had recently.

Fillise - Glad to hear you are back on program to-day. I can understand your feelings after the gain you had but as long as you can get right back on track I am sure things will turn around for you soon. Maybe it is the muscle building up from all the exercise you have been doing. How are you doing with the inches? Any difference in the way your clothes are fitting?

Melf - Glad to hear you are having a good vacation. It's always nice to be able to spend some time with family. You'll have to let us know if you try any of the ME recipes. I'm always looking for something different to try. Hope you are not thinking of making SPOTTED DICK. I know for sure that wouldn't be SB legal. :)

Music Teach - I haven't used Dietsite, I've only used Fitday but I will try and check it out later and see how it compares. I would be interested in checking the fat intake, as that always seems so high in Fitday.

Have to get going. I'm going out for dinner this evening with a friend to an Indian restaurant. Yum.

Bye for now

Marie.

Hey All:wave:

Just posted 2 easy recipes on the recipe board - BOTH of them I've made!:D Aren't you proud of me?!? Hey, for someone who hates cooking, that's a lot (LOL-you'll laugh when you see how easy they are).

Waiting for Eli to come home-simple dinner tonight FATTOUSH (salad) and either hummus or chicken-depends on when he waltzs on in. Lauren just called and is babysitting, they invited her to stay over for dinner (yeah!) I'll throw something vegetarian in the nuker for Michael-easy cooking, just how I like it:s:

MUSIC, I've never used diet site, but if you want to see how accurate something is, click on either of the two sites that I use, the first one is what I use to most: http://www.nat.uiuc.edu/mainnat.html OR http://www.calorieking.com/foods/ and just compare and see what you find out.

ROSALIE, LOL, me cook that-nope, it will have to be an Eli specialty! Last night he made a small piece of salmon I bought over at the HFS, it was BETTER than the salmon at OUTBACK. I don't know what he seasoned it with, threw it on the George Forman and that was it, delicious-only had a small piece to begin with, Lauren scoffed more than 1/2 of it down. House sure did stink-one thing I have about cooking fish at home. We have a portable burner that we'll make use of outside next time. I always weigh more right when I wake up vs a bit later-don't you feel heavier when you just wake up? I don't know why, but it's like dead weight. I remember when the kids were small, it was easy to pick them up when they were awake, but when they'd fall asleep, say in the car and I had to get them out, it felt like they gained 10lbs! Hmmm, maybe I'll try to find some info on this phenomenon!!:D

I'm outta here, it's starting to thunder bad, so I'm sure it must be lightening out there too. Eli just called and is on the way home (YEAH), so I'm going to go start the salad.

Hope you all have a great evening!

Well, my foot was not feeling any better, and, in fact, was feeling worse. So I called up my podiatrist today and got right in. I have been wearing orthotics almost half my life, changing periodically when they got better and better. He is going to send in this pair and see if they can be adjusted. Hopefully that will work. Otherwise I will have to get a new pair made and that costs about $300. Ugh. If that doesn’t work then I’ll have to take some cortisone shots in my foot and I don’t want that. My orthotics will be back in about 10 days, so am not sure what I’ll be doing about walking in the meantime.

We’re off tomorrow to visit friends out of town. I’ll be taking a fruit platter, some sugar-free jello salad, and a fresh veggie salad. Usually our friends have a lot of non-SB stuff. It’s yummy, but definitely not OP. Potato salad, fried chicken, etc, etc. Hopefully I will be armed for success.

Well, I’m gonna go. Congratulations to all who were losers this week, and even to all who weren’t but who still kept on “chuggin’ along.”

Marie, I got the pix back. Several did not turn out good at all. But I’ll send you the 3 best with some notations on the back. You can scan them and send them on to Debbie--not me--and she can post them where ever. Thanks for your help.

Oh my gosh, I'm posting twice in one day!!!

Ok, I'm confused (doesn't take much :dizzy: ) I'm browsing thru "The Glucose Revolution" and it said that popcorn had a GI of 55. It says "A surprisingly low GI for a processed product. The type of starch or changes to its structure in the popping and cooling of the popcorn may be the cause of the lower GI. Popcorn is a high fiber snack food"

I can't remember who asked about the sweet/salty popcorn, but that's the quote. Maybe that can help you make a decision.

Then it says this about sweet corn: "(GI of 55) Raw, fresh, frozen or canned varieties would be suitable to use. Corn on the cob has a lower CI than corn chips or corn flakes. The intact whole kernel makes enzymic attack more difficult."

The explanation makes sense. But Montignac puts corn at GI 70.( Ret'd SB book to the library yesterday so I can't compare that one).

Does anyone eat popcorn or sweet corn occasionally??? Do you feel bloated afterward or do you feel ok?

Filiise Hang in there. I did the eat bad, feel like crap thing on the weekend and gained 2 lbs. But as of today they are gone!:D Do your best and you'll lose the extra in no time.

Debelli I'm nice to the snoring DH to a point. Then I start to shove, HARD! ;) Mandelbrot--mmmmm. I haven't made that in years. Is the recipe posted somewhere???? Never mind. did a search and found it. I'll try it soon!

Rosalie Ya, bad rain, a little thunder, terrible wind. Thought our basement would be flooded again, but DH did a great repair job.:D He slept thru it too, BTW.

Gator I'm sorry your foot is sore. I hope they can adjust your orthotics and that they come back quickly so you don't have to get shots.

Gotta be brief Surivior is Coming on!!!

I sure do miss seeing Colby's hunky face though. He made my heart throb!

Not much to report today. Evaluated a child with moderate to severe Autism, a severe learning and language disability. This little boy has gone undiagnosed and now he is 4 years old. That is a late age to uncover a child with this type of disorder, especially his severity. Thankfully his parents had a clue because their minister had talked to them about Autism. Coulda been a really rough morning! (I'm a speech-language pathologist who works for the state, assisting in identifying children who need educational or other services.) I enjoy my job and knowing that I am helping families.

Well, tv calls!

Have a great night all!

Peace,

Hi ladies!

It sounds like everyone, especially those who have been going through frustrating stalls, is doing well with weigh in Wednesday. So a collective note of congratulations to all of you even though I’m not participating. Weighing is part of the ballistic things I’ve been doing lately, like writing out long descriptions of my future vision of myself, that I’m going to stop doing for a while.

This is my weight. This is my body as it is. This is my life right here and now. This is my job, office, apartment, truck, neighborhood, city. All of a sudden I had this revelation. I felt silly spending so much time dreaming about all the ways things could be different, when things are perfectly good as they are.

I’m not saying I’ll never weigh myself again. Stopping is just something I have to do for the time being to stay focused in the present.

Mel
Well, the point of my story, which I’m not sure was plain, is DON’T COLOR YOUR HAIR YOURSELF! LOL. However I don’t think I’ll ever learn. Oh I forgot to say. So a couple days ago my boss was yelling at me for something AGAIN and she said, “If you don’t behave, I’m going to dye your hair a NORMAL color!!!” ;)

Jeanie
Thanks for the encouragement. Well I don’t claim to be a GOOD cook, I just like to experiment and sometimes the results are a little questionable!

Debbie
Re: turkey neck. Whatever you say, your picture looks damn good to me! :)

I read the first Nancy Appleton book “Lick the Sugar Habit” but haven’t heard of the second. Found it much easier to understand and share with others than William Duffy’s “Sugar Blues.” Just curious, what was the first book you’ve been looking for for a long time?

Thanks for the reply on bulgar wheat, and I would love to see that picture. A lot of times people tell me I look just like somebody else and I’m like, what? Are you planning to scan it?

I have been traumatized by life by Supercuts. I had to wait TWO HOURS, no lie, and this big huge tough lady jacked up the chair roughly and took literally two snips off the bottom of my hair, leaving me with dripping hair and in tears as I left. Never again!

Nancy
Congratulations on the new job, hubby’s new job and the potential new furniture! Sounds awesome. Don’t worry about feeling “out of place” with the Sugarbusters crowd, I went through a phase and have been doing all kinds of unspeakable things until last Saturday and felt like a total imposter posting here but I felt drawn to stick around here when I could and all these ladies have been very supportive. So the main thing is to keep posting no matter how you feel you’re doing.

Susanne
Yep your hair horror story sounds a lot like mine, except I keep doing it and didn’t learn my lesson the first time!
Susan
Don’t worry about it hon! Sometimes one day of eating differently helps shake your metabolism up and gets things moving. Tripping is one thing, but lying down in the dirt while life passes you by is totally another. So it’s another day and it sounds like you’re already rarin’ to go!

Froggie
I have never even watched one episode of Survivor or any other reality show. Recently have been watching the new Star Trek, Enterprise with Scott Bakula. I am so far iffy about it. Can’t quite get used to the idea of Scott Bakula as a starship captain, and that Vulcan chick is a pain in the ***. But the characters seem like they might be more well developed than they seem to be at first.

So. I’ve been neglecting my own board and posting here. ;) I’ll catch up there too but things have been really hectic. I have another pension plan presentation on the Big Island tomorrow. My boss and I are flying out for the day, and the company is having a big shindig at a hotel just for our presentation. That’s one of the cool benefits of this job is occasional travel and free food. ;)

Everything else is going pretty well. Still not having sugar, and cooking my food. Still eating substantial amounts. Getting my spending under control too. Still not in my budget, but at least I know how much I’m spending!

Oh and Brian (the quasi boyfriend) is coming to Hawaii to visit me in December! I am SO excited. We are going to bike around the island (maybe not all the way) and bbq every day. ;)

Okay off to work we go!

Love,

Chris

Can I do Weigh-in Thursday instead? I got on the scale this am and 1 pound is gone, bringing me to the 150 mark and 25 pounds gone in 3 months plus 1 day. :) tra-la! But then I spent the afternoon after work tromping around center city Philadelphia looking for a bracelet for my aunt, and forgot to bring food, didn't want to sabotage on street vendor stuff, so by the time I got back home I had a serious case of the shakes. That, plus having woken up at 4:15 and not been able to get back to sleep (finally gave up at 5:15 and just got up), my body doesn't know which way's up at this point. Didn't even walk more than the 1/2 mile mandatory dog comfort stroll this morning.

Sounds like everybody's had a SUPERCUTS experience like mine. Wish I'd heard the stories before I went there. Oh well, at least I didn't have to wait two hours for the butcher job!

Nancy- Glad to here everything's coming together for you and hubby. Furniture shopping sounds fun. I remember how excited I was the first time I actually picked out a couch fabric instead of throwing an afghan over my grandmother's old couch! I think posting here makes me want to keep my eating on track- I don't want to have to tell anyone about eating twinkies, so I don't (eat them, that is). Anyway, roundabout way of saying just stay with us, and maybe that will help get the food in line with all the rest of the things that seem to be going so well for you.

Sparkle- I really have problems with Scott Bakula as the Enterprise captain. And the Vulcan "required female body" is really annoying. I've been a huge fan of all the other series, tho I had a few problems with Janeway at first too. I just can't seem to get involved in this one. I really miss Picard and Chicote (sp?) and whathisname from DS9. Anybody else out there know what I'm talking about?

Frog- Your evaluation today sounded so sad...You must have endless patience despite what you said at chat the other nite. When I was a teenager I babysat for a little autistic boy. It was tough, to say the least.

Deb- Mandelbrot sounds good, think I'll try it this weekend. Haven't made it in years! Hope I don't eat it all. I bought the organic cottage cheese because it seemed to be the only one without "food starches" in it. Wasn't quite sure what kind of "food starches" or what they did, but it turns out they make the stuff taste good, and the sugar is so low on the regular stuff, that I'll never buy the organic again. Also was doing my weekly run to Fresh Fields and didn't want to bother going somewhere else just for cottage cheese.

Well, I'm falling asleep here, if I don't go to bed I'll have keyboard dents in my forehead!
There a probably a zillion typo's in this but I'm not even going to proofread it. Good nite,

mel

Evening All:wave:

Finally got all my e-mails answered, been putting them off and they kept piling up, so that's been taken care of:)

Getting ready to go in bed and read a little before hitting the hay and thought I'd get in a quickie...

GATOR, sorry to hear your feet aren't doing well. I'm sure you'll get it taken care of, but in the meantime, forgo the walking, and maybe try to do something else that doesn't require pounding the pavement. Can you still go to the gym? We really don't realize just how important our feet are until something happens to them-they're our wheels! Have a good time with your friends.

ZANNE, I will try to look into the popcorn issue a bit more. I've read the same book but think her numbers are lower than what I've read elsewhere. Personally, I've totally stayed away from all corn products, was too afraid to cheat. I remember seeing something about popping the corn and I thought that raised the GI, but I could def. be wrong. True, popcorn is considered a high fiber snack, but the GI is ultimately what we are looking at. Remind me about it if I don't answer this question in a timely matter-at my age....You'll love the mandelbrot recipe if you try it-I loved it a bit too much!!!!!

FROG, just wanted to say hello:D

SPARKLE, the other book is ANOTHER cookbook-like I need another one like I need a hole in my head. I think when I told Eli I got another book his eyes rolled in the back of his head-he doesn't understand why I keep buying more books when I hate to cook-I blame them on the board!! I don't have a scanner, so if you want, e-mail me your snail mail addy and I'll send it off to you :) Hey, did you take one of those pics for BFL with the newspaper, your before photo???

MEL, CONGRATS! Great news to hear on that pound loss! WOO HOO! The MANDELBROT is really good, and easy to make. Try sticking it in the freezer, maybe it being out of site will make it out of mind-though it didn't work for me! Let me know if you venture to make it!

Okay, I'm outta here for the night! Have a good one, and I'll see you all in the morning, sometime!

Need some input here. I'm feeling really yucky tonight. Real tense and on edge. I was really bad today:devil: I got into the Halloween candy and couldn't seem to stop. This is the first time I've gone this far off the path, so I'm wondering if that's why I'm feeling like this. Of course, it's about TOM, so it could be that. I'm never really sure from one month to the next when that's going to happen though. Anyway, I was wondering if eating lots of sugar makes any of you have PMS symptoms.:?:

Hello again! Well I did finally catch up on my other board so thought I would take advantage of the opportunity to be completely caught up since there are only a few posts here! ;)

Mel
Congrats on your weight loss progress. The Vulcan chick is annoying in the sense of her personality, but her body is definitely TOO much. Martin says she looks like a plastic woman. But we saw a pic of her once in a magazine without the ugly haircut and she looks pretty good.

Whoever thought I would start watching Star Trek? The concept was as foreign to me as (cough) football. But (I posted this before) I started watching Voyager with my roommate (Martin) and didn't really get into it. But then there was one episode where Seven of Nine and that Native American guy landed on a primative jungle planet inhabited by gentle creatures. And the guy started making friends with them, learning their culture right away. Whereas Seven was mistrustful and didn't want to communicate with them. So I was puzzled as to why she was so snobby. Martin said, "She is still learning how to get along with people" (Because she was a Borg) "Oh," I said. "She's just like me!" It was quite striking because I was raised to be very narrow minded and religious, was fat, and isolated from others and really had a "Borg" mentality going on. So I could relate to her. That's when I realized that Star Trek addresses complex emotional issues in an interesting way. Anyway. So I like Voyager because that's the only one I know. Martin likes the Next Generation best of all but I don't see that much in it....seems kind of stiff. Well I got off on a tangent there.

Debbie
It sounds like you searched heaven and earth for that cookbook! I would hate to take it away from you! LOL

So I kept seeing references to this "MANDELBROT" thing and finally was so curious that I did a search even though I'm lazy. Since I had no clue what mandelbrot could be, even thought it had something to do with the pumpkin discussion! LOL And hmmmmm......exactly the recipe I've been looking for!!!!! I've been wanting to make something biscotti like for a while, and definitely love almonds/almond flavor. I can't wait to try it out!

Music
Well I've been thinking about your post a lot since I just went through a pretty bad sugar episode last week. And to ask myself why is pretty deep. But I do notice something. When I'm doing "good" I have a lot of energy and it seems easy to keep up this way of eating. But then I start eating one sugary thing and two things happen. 1) I don't have a "track record" that I have to keep clean so it doesn't seem to matter what I do anymore and 2) the sugary thing sets up a PHYSICAL downward spiral. Gives me a high (a very real drug in my case) followed by that crashing low so I have to get another fix. Before I know it I'm buying fistfulls of candy bars, eyes peeled for any signs of my coworkers around! since I'm supposed to be such an angel. ;) This doesn't happen instantly. Usually it's a few sugary things a day and gets out of control.

For me, I think my body chemistry is such that I need to just stay away from sugar. But some people react differently. I've carefully watched the way people around me eat and they don't seem to have the same problems I do.

One thing that has helped me get back on track (to some degree) is journaling. I think I have posted before that I bought a very cutesy fat little diary from Ross, and then I found a set of 60 (!!!!!) almost all different color gel pens -- metallic, glitter, etc -- from Costco. Having pretty paper and pens helps me to be excited about journaling. (Some people like to journal online or on the computer) So I journaled, even when things were going bad. I compulsively wrote down everything I ate and the exercise I did or didn't do. And how I felt about it. And how I feel in general a self-motivated part of my therapy. (In other words my therapist didn't tell me to do it but I'm making an evaluation of how I feel on a daily basis anyway.) I do this for a few minutes before bed, not being very exact about the food because I don't want it to be a big hassle. Like I will write large or small serving instead of a measurement.

I think it's really helped. It's like, if I don't write things down time just seems to pass by without any meaning. (That's the way my mind works others may be different).

:)

Okay obviously I'm a little chatty tonight. I made more so called cheesecake with cottage cheese and bulgar wheat as I *cough* did a good job on the first batch. But it was really good and almost the same nutritionally as boiled eggs and plain oatmeal and SO much tastier! ;) The house smelled like HEAVEN while it was baking.

My darling sis called me up at the last minute and we took baby and stroller and just walked down the main street of Waikiki from one end to the other. There were all kinds of street performers, tourist and prostitutes on the street, many interesting sights. Even if it was slow, we did quite a bit of walking, too. It was a nice time and didn't involve any food or alcohol!!!

I have to get up and be "present" for our presentation haha tomorrow. My boss and I are flying to the Big Island to do some ah, continuing education on an existing pension plan we have with a big (small) company there. It's my first time to the Big Island, I can't believe it! We are only there for the afternoon but it's going to take all morning to get through the airport etc.

And OMG it's 11:30. Gotta get some beauty sleep, lord knows I need it!

Love,

Chris

Good Friday Morning Everyone!

What a wonderful beginning to the day. Already got in my 4.5 miles, did it will 17 jogs in 50:21:) So hot out there today, BUT, we are supposed to get that cool front later today-I can't wait. I'll wring the neck of every meteorologist if it doesn't materialize! Sure enough, the rains where here this morning. When I went to walk it was sprinkling, thought about not going in case it started to really rain, but said, what the heck-it sprinkled about half of my walk, not a big deal-glad I went.

What a happy site I had on the scale this morning!:D I HIT A NEW ALL TIME LOW TODAY!!!! 120lbs!!!! http://members.aol.com/debelli/woo_hoo.jpg This is also my goal for the end of the month-though I think come the 31st, I'll be up, TOM is due:( So, I will gleefully be happy with today's results today, and worry about tomorrow when it comes!

Today is FRIDAY FACTS and this comes from a book I'd like to recommend, it's by DR. BOB ARNOT, titled DR. BOB ARNOT'S REVOLUTIONARY WEIGHT CONTROL PROGRAM I recommend it NOT for his program, but for some wonderful information he has in this book. After reading it, I have so many pages tagged in there that I would like to share with you all, but really, if you can find it at the library, do try to read it.

Anyhow, his INTRODUCTION in the book is quite interesting, and here's what he wrote:

The principal of this book is simple. Foods are drugs. Choose the foods you eat with the care and love that a painter chooses his favorite brushes, and you will transform your life. How? You'll enhance your brain's mood chemistry to deliver the self-esteem, mental energy, vigor, and power to hold the line against foods that make you fat instead of depending on stubborn willpower to endure hunger. You'll fundamentally alter your body's physiology from weight gain to weigh loss. You'll cut your hunger and craving for foods. You'll dump excess fat and gain muscle to reshape your body in the way you like. Do you doubt that foods alone really make such a difference? Remember, that the high-starch, low-fat, low-fiber diet of the 1980's sent American waistlines sprawling faster and farther than at any time in history.

The primary stumbling block for most people to truly change the foods they eat is the unshakable belief that only bad foods make you feel really good. The core premise of perfect weight control is that the best foods will make you feel great and speed weight loss so that weight control becomes a joy, not a burden. You may trade in the short-lived hit of foods as recreational drugs, but in return you'll gain a day-long glow from the magic foods that have allowed people from different cultures around the world to lead long, healthy lives in perfect form. To change foods for a lifetime, you need only experience how much more terrific you feel and see the remarkable differences in your body.

There's little wonder we feel badly when we are overweight. Sure it ruins our self-image, and creates a stumbling block to social and business relationships, but it also consumes more and more of our time ruminating about it. The solace we often take is in the foods that will make us even fatter, robbing us of our self-respect. But there's another reason that we feel so bad: Obesity inexorably changes the way our bodies and brains actually function. We come to reply on foods as recreational drugs to attain fleetingly a pleasant state of mind.

The revolution in perfect weight control is that you can first control how you feel with foods so that you have the power to change how you look. Just think of it. If you felt great every day, you'd have no compunction about eating the right foods. It's the syndrome or poor eating-stress, anger, anxiety, fatigue, even outright depression-that drives us to eat the foods that will kill us. Yes! We're committing a slow suicide by using fattening foods to recover from the foul moods caused by eating badly in the first place, a classic catch-22. I call it symptom-driven eating. Here's what I mean: When you ask yourself the question "What do I feel like eating?" you're trying to make a diagnosis. You're asking yourself:

"Am I fatigued?"
"Do I feel fidgety?"
"Have I lost my concentration?"
"Do I need an energy boost?"
"Did I let myself become too hungry?"
"Should I reward myself for starving all day?"

If you answered yes to any of those questions, the chances are that your last meal played a big part in making you feel fatigued, fidgety or anxious. Your last meal may also be driving you toward high-calorie, super fattening "comfort" foods such as cinnamon rolls, French fries, or bagels with cream cheese as a cure. If you were a doctor, you would be up for malpractice: faulty diagnosis, botched treatment. In medicine, as soon as a symptoms appear, disease has struck. The opportunity for prevention is lost. You now require strong medicines with all of their complications. When you cause symptoms by eating particular foods, you also create the need for strong food antidotes with all of their weight-gaining side effects. You'll literally need to eat a pound of cure when a few ounces of prevention would have done nicely.

This book will give you the satisfaction that you are finally brining every major weapon to bear int he battle of the bulge. Perfect weight control will end your obsession with food and fat forever by giving you tremendous control over what you eat and when you eat it, to feel the best you've ever felt. You will gain mastery over hunger, compulsion, and fat so you can get on with your life. I've found personally, as have many of my friends and colleagues, that our productivity has soared as has success in our careers when we learn to take control of what we eat.

Int he past fat loss was impossible to attain for most Americans without incredible dedication and personal sacrifice. In the dark ages of weight loss, tried and true methods were painful, had short-lived results, and were enormously difficult to stick with because they fought against the way the body naturally works far too hard. The long and short of it is that much of what was once used to lose weight was dead wrong.

That's just part of the introduction to the book-there's lots of great info in the book and again, I do recommend in reading it :)

MUSIC, sorry you had a hard time yesterday. Probably feeling yucky from eating off plan. I know when it's TOM and mid-cycle for me, I'm ravenous and NOTHING I eat, no amount of food seems to satisfy me. I definitely take in more calories than I normaly would, but always make sure they're SB LEGAL, that's the key. Eat and eat if you must, just make sure the foods are OP. I'm sure as your hormones stop raging, you'll be back to normal;)

SPARKLE, yes, Mandebrot is similar to a biscotti-let me know if you make them-what sweetener would you use??? Good luck on your presentation today!!! Hope it goes well:)

Time for me to go get a bite to eat and then jump in the shower. Lauren is in a Halloween play at school and wants me to go today to see it, so that's on my agenda today.

Will check in with you all later-hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

HAPPY DEBBIE!

SPARKLE--

"This is my weight.
Stopping is just something I have to do for the time being to stay focused in the present."

You are soooo right about taking each day as it is. When we hop on the scale to measure whether we’ve been “good” or “bad” then we miss the joy of the journey. Actually, I don’t think we need a scale to tell us if we’ve been “good” or “bad.” We know how we’ve been eating and if we’ve been using food the wrong way. And to let a number on a weight machine affect our mood is missing out on the good things about ourselves and our surroundings.

Of course, a scale is fine for measuring progress. But we fluctuate so much from hour to hour and day to day, depending on TOM, water consumption, etc. I commend you on focusing on the living of life, which is the most important part.

I have never watched any of the reality programs either. Oh! I take that back. One night when I was waiting for my DH to get home from a late meeting and decided to watch the boob toob while waiting, I clicked on to see what all the fuss was about. I find daily life more exciting, actually. Maybe we all are “Survivors” as we handle each day successfully. Maybe our choices about attitudes, problem solving, relationships, eating, choices, etc. are all part of our own personal “Survivor” show. When I watch TV, I normally gravitate toward sports, classic movies, or old reruns of Mayberry.

DEbbIE--I didn’t see any turkey neck, either. Absolutely! Didn’t see any at all! Maybe it shrunk away just for this pix. LOL
Yep, I can still go to the gym. I’ll still be going 2 days a week to lift those weights. My arms are still sore from yesterday’s session. Thanks for the advice re. the walking. Even when I am sitting down I have that slight bruised pain in my right foot. Maybe I’ll try biking during my wait for my orthotics to come back.

MUSIC--I would not be surprised if the sugar did it! It can be like a drug sometimes. I remember when I would eat a big dose of sugar I could almost feel it coursing through my veins. I feel the same way when I drink a significant amount of caffeine.

SPARKLE---AGAIN. In reading your post about your watching Star Trek, and your mention about how your up-bringing has affected you, I was reminded that the book I am presently reading would be one you might find captivating. It is called “Soul Survivor--How My Faith Survived the Church” by Philip Yancey. It is fascinating! I can hardly put it down. He describes his religious up-bringing and how negative it was, and the profound effects it had on his life, especially in his teenage and young adult life. He then has a series of short biographies of people whose lives influenced him and enabled him to dump some of the garbage. His insights are amazing, and he also doesn’t sugar coat ANY pills, either about the people included in his book or the church itself. The bios range from Martin Luther King to John Donne (yes, the English poet), to Everett Koop to Mohatmas Gandhi and more. I got mine at Sam’s Discount Club where it was a ton cheaper than Borders.

BOB--I’ve been thinking about a book you mentioned several month’s ago, called “God’s Diet” or something like that. I’ve been trying it out, just making it up as I go along. I’ve been eating even more “naturally” than usual for the past couple of weeks. Generally have plain oatmeat with apples or other fruit cooked it it for breakfast. Then veggies or salad for lunch with just vinegar or cottage cheese for a dressing. Some fresh fruits during the day, and a piece of chicken or fish for lunch or supper, along with some more veggies. I have included cooked dried beans or split peas and some brown rice to keep the calories up high enough. I still have the problem of sometimes not being hungry. I can remember when I was “sneaking” sugar or chips or whatever, my hunger pangs seemed to be fueled by those foods, candies, etc. Now that the holidays are staring us in the face, I am wondering how I will handle it when all the foods on the various buffets start calling my name. Will I be hungry? Will I eat just to be sociable, even eating “healthy” foods when I’m not hungry? Will I go into a tailspin? Hmmm.

Gotta go. Have to pack, and would like to run to the mall to get some long pants. It was so hot and muggy yesterday that last night we turned our AC back on, only to get up this morning to cool weather. It must have been in the high 60’s!

Take care everyone. Have a great weekend.

Happy Friday everyone. Not really much to report, just thought I would check in.

I'm hoping that my truly oogly WIW was just an abberation due to pre-TOM. That afternoon I went through what I can only describe as a case of 24-hour hormone confusion. I just started on a new BCP and I think my body is trying to figure out what is going on. So, I'm hoping that next WIW will be much better.

I ordered the new TaeBoII tapes last night. I'm hoping that I can do better with that exercise than trying to go to the gym. I'm thinking that I will do better when I can just get out of bed in the morning, walk to the living room and do my workout. Especially because it is starting to get cold here in the Peach State.

MEL- CONGRATS!! Right now I can only dream of getting below 150. I don't even know the last time I was in that neighborhood.

DEBELLI- 120? I hate you. No, I really don't, but that hasn't even made it into my dreams yet. Honestly, I don't think that I will ever get that low. At this time, I think I would look a little weird at 120, since I don't think I look like I weigh what I do now. But, we'll see as things go along.

To all the rest of you, I hope that you have a great SB weekend. I will do my best. But it is hard to watch football and not have chips and dip. I guess I need to switch to pita and hummus.

Talk to you soon.

WAY TO GO DEB AND MEL!!!!!! I am so happy for the two of you!!!!! Awesome!!!! WOW, double WOW

Thank you everyone for the warm wishes. I am very happy that things are finally getting on track in my life, and will be even more happy when I get on track. I weighed on the scale this morning
and managed to gain everything back and then some, so let me reassure you that SB does work, and eating "our" way doesn't!!!!
I still have been excited about SB and have talked to alot of patients who are doing SB or have recommended it to them, and told them about the site, but so far haven't seen anyone post...maybe they are lurking :)

I'm up to 228, and my body fat is at 50%. Went to the store this morning and got prepared to have a SB day. Don't want to wait until my new start date of November 1st, cuase I'm ready to roll now!

Thank you for everyone's patience with me...I promise I am going to make you proud!

What some losers - DEB AND MEL - THATS WONDERFUL!!!:D

I was back down to 146.5 this morning, so maybe I'm on my way back from TOM last week. This is still 1/2 lb from my lowest on SB, but I'll take it for now. I'm a'workin really hard!!

We are planning to take the kids to a Haunted Forest tonight for a hay ride type thing.... I know the folks that own the farm and its done very well. My oldest, Justin, wants to go in their Haunted Barn too (a separate thing, kinda like a haunted house), so I'll have to take him through. Little one is still too young for that much SCARINESS and DH is a chicken - he "doesn't like that kind of stuff" !!

Gotta run for now!!

See you LOSERS later ;)

Still in somewhat of a funk. Nothin's moving--and I meannothing! I feel so bloated. Nothing a day in the reading room won't fix--but I still hate it!

Yesterday was better--at least until dinner. I was meeting a friend who got stuck at work and kept me waiting for 2 hours. It really wasn't her fault, but she kept calling and saying she was 20 way from leaving, so I didn't fix anything to tide me over. So guess what happened when we got to the restaurant--it was Mexican. Yup those tortilla chips on the table were just too much. Anyway so far so good today.

Deb--yes I feel sick. In fact I woke up in the middle of the night very nausious last night. I didn't have sugar yesterday (though I certainly OD'd on it the day before). It was 3 am and Belle thought the fact that I was awake meant we should play--so her pouncing on my stomach was NOT a good thing right then! I went through this when I first went on the prpgram. For two or three nights running, I woke up nauseated. I'm still a little queasy this morning.

Deb and Mel--I'm so happy for you both. As soon as the queasiness subsides, i'll do the happy dance for you!!!!!:D

Nance--good thinking--we gotta move when the spirit strikes. If you are ready now DO NOT wait until the 1st!

Ralynne--whooohoo on the size 10 jeans! It is good to hear from you!

Gator--are you going to the cocktail party this weekend? Did I ever mention that I am a UGA grad? I don't think you and I are ever going to be on the same side of this football thing!

Sparkle--I had an office-mate in grad school who decided to change her hair color. Within the space of a week she dyed it over 20 times. We laughed at her--literally sometimes it would be a different color in the afternoon than it was in the morning--I don't think she ever found just the right shade! My hairdresser won't let me color my hair. At 43 I have very dark brown hair with just a few strands of gray (thanks to my eye-talian grandmother and my father who at 75 has jet black hair with very little gray). He has convinced me that it is too much trouble to maintain for now--but he will let me know when I need to start. Towards that end, I have the perfect shade of Auburn (naturally) all picked out!

BOB--where is your 1.6l b lighter little arse? I have to do a seminar in Montgomery tomorrow and won't get to watch the Auburn Arkansas game in the morning. Who have y'all got--is it USC this week? I'm nervous about our game--we are living so close to the edge that one Sat. we are going to fall off!

Frog--it is nice to know that you are helping people in your work! How is the new survivor? I didn't really watch the other two--but have been thinking about tuning in to see what the fuss is about!

That's it--I have a lot of work to do to be ready for tomorrow. I may not be back on the board until Sunday or monday--then again I may be back on tonight!

Have a good day and weekend everyone!

Hi everyone! I'm back. :D The trip to Orlando was great! GatorGal, her DD, and I went out to a nice cuban restaurant one night. Very good food & wine. Let met tell you, they are some pretty special people, and as nice as anything. :) I really enjoyed myself in Orlando. Since we can't have beer, I had to make do with wine. I think I've managed to put some major mileage on becoming an oenophile. :p It was only really hot and humid the last couple of days. Back to AZ, and boy am I pooped.

BTW, on the white zinfandel--it was way too sweet, does that mean SB is working? I was able to stay OP until Wed when I went to an afternoon tea, and there they were-fresh Scones w/ Devonshire cream, and choco dipped strawberries--I couldn't stop myself! Luckily, it was a small scone, and just 1 strawberry.

Congrats to everyone for the losses! I was afraid to get on the scale after all that wine I drank in Orlando! But I'm down to 142! Yay! I'm still suspicious that this is that 5 lb up/down due to water, but I'll take it on face value.:D

jmuir- just an FYI on the bcp, the docs usu say it takes 3 mo before your body adjusts to a new bcp. So don't get discouraged re WIW.

Debelli--great pic! I love your hair. I think you're right, you were a little hard to find under your curls, but they were lovely too. Wow, to be able to do straight OR curly. Not many of us can do that.

Solshine & Nance - congrats on the new jobs! They are so lucky to have you.

HELLO to everyone new, and everyone I missed. I thought the flight was just 4 hrs, but with the time difference from FL to AZ, it was 6hrs! Still dragging a bit. Talk to you all soon.

Hi all! Remember me? I have not been AWOL because of being bad (Iwasn't), I just was alternating between not feeling great and being very busy to make up for it!

Wednesday was very bad! It was terribly HOT and HUMID here in the morning. I went to exercise class, as I usually do. The gym has no AC, there are a couple of small fans sitting on the floor, but believe me they do not cool anything unless you sit in front of them! Anyway, by the time we were done so I was. I got in car, turned on AC and sat. Started to drive home and had to pull over and sit a while. Then thought I'd be okay to run in store and get milk. WRONG! By the time I got home, I was whipped. Was washed out all the rest of day!

I finally got my projects all framed and into consignment shop. Hope they sell so I can have fun of doing more!

Am too far behind to catch up on all posts will try to answer a couple that come to mind.

SOL - so glad you have new job. NANCE too as well as your dh. On the reverse side, sorry about dh's layoff THUNDER.

MELF - How great you are to keep up with board as you have while on vacation.

GATOR - Hope foot feels better soon. Those 10 days to wait will seem like forever!

SCAMP - Have never been a Star Trek fan. Just never got into it, but dil and gd live and breathe it. There was a marathon of episodes on one of the stations here and they taped them all. They watch all the different "space" programs and got quote them chapter and verse! Even have a giant Trivia book on the subject.

Your attitude really reflects the Serenity Prayer, which is to accept things you cannot change, change those you can, and have wisdom to know the difference!

You have all made me think I better check the recipe board which I have not done in a while.

Hopefully I will post again soon and get back on track with the Board.

One last note. I made up my mind I hate the scale and will not weight until I go to the doctor again. I get so obsessed by it all.

Take care, sef

Afternoon All:wave:

Thought I'd get in a post before Michael gets home from school and says he needs/wants the computer.

Went to Lauren's play, she actually had a monologue to do, she was funny. There was one skit where this kid plays an old guy, he was hysterical. I thought my Mom would pee in her pants, it was so funny.

Speaking of Mom, they just got back from NC last night, been almost 2 weeks since I saw her. First thing out of her mouth-you look skinnier. Mind you, she says this with a "lool" of disapproval! I told her I've only lost 2lbs since Oct. 3-she says it really shows all of a sudden. She thinks I'm too thin-paleeeseeeee! I'm not into caring or trying to bother to please other people anymore, I'm the one the only one who I have to please-besides, as I keep saying, they are just not quite use to seeing me looking like I should, they still have images of what I've always been.

Eli & I are going to OUTBACK for dinner this evening with the elderly couple I mentioned before, I think it's their treat:D Afterwards, we're going to take them over to meet my Grandparents, actually more for Morris to meet my Grandfather and for Gramps to look at an old watch Morris has to fix-hopefully, my Grandmother will behave herself and be nice (any of you newbies that don't know, I have "issues" with my GM). Anyhow, that's my plans-between now and then, probaby read.

GATOR, when we see you in Orlando, you'll see that turkey neck for sure-don't think I'll be having any surgery before that time!

MEL, CONGRATULATIONS!!! WOO HOO GIRL! Isn't that just the most awesome feeling when you see that scale go down into unchartered territory!! WTG!!!!

JMUIR, I'm looking for that gain to come on any day now, TOM is due Wed and I ALWAYS have a gain-it's just one part of that wonderful cycle:rolleyes: Hey, do you think I EVER in my LIFE thought I'd be at 120? Nope! Can't remember ever being at this weight ever before. If you're short like me, then it's possible-anything is possible-you just have to want it bad enough;) I wanted this more than anyone will ever know! Hey, how about pita chips and dip??? Though personally, I'd go for the hummus!

RALY, thanks for checking in-great news on those size 10 jeans! WW Tortilla Chips, I think you just need to bake them, watch them so they don't burn though, if they are ff, they tend to burn quicker than those with some fat.

NANCE, ahhh, it sounds like the OLD NANCE Glad to have you back and ready to get back on the wagon. As you said, this WOE works and it's time to get back to work. Good for you for not waiting til the 1st of Nov. I think when you know you're ready, you know, and you have a motivation today that you need to tap into. Most people try to wait and start their diets on a Monday, trying to eat all the crap they can on the weekend. I was ready on a Wednesday (hence, the WIW) and that's the day I started! You've already made us proud, your back with us, you'll just make us proud each day (no pressure there, huh?). Just let us know how you're doing!! {{{HUGS}}}

TV, I'm sure you're probably going to start a losing trend now, I usually do as my TOM fades away. I'm sure you'll see your hard work pay off. Have a great time at the HH!!!

FILLISE, you'll snap out of that funk-I've been there before and know it can get discouraging, but like I told TV, you'll see your hard work pay off-just be patient. When Eli and I hit Ole Ole, we get 2 salsas (okay, we're pigs, we probably eat 4-5 bowls each time) and I eat mine with a fork. If you know you are going to a place like that, try to prepare if you know that chips can be a weakness for you. Make some WW tortilla chips or pita chips and stick them in a baggie-whatever works!! I hope you're feeling less queasy today-I'm sure it will pass.

TREE, glad to hear you're back, safe and sound and that you had a nice time in Orlando as well as with meeting up with GATOR. I can tell you, in regards to your Zinfadel question, when I took a tiny sip of Eli's soda after not having any for a month, I thought it tasted like pure sugar and spit it out, it tasted aweful! I haven't had soda since June 2000 and probably would find it terribly sweet and hate it (as I did then). When I bake, people say there's not sweetness to things, yet when I eat it, it's sweet to me-so def., your taste buds do change! Does the 142 mean you lost, gained or stayed the same? Thanks for the hair compliment-alas, I'm back to curly today-maybe Sunday I'll blow dry it-depends on how lazy/creative I'm feeling that day.

SEF, glad to see your post-you know how we miss you when you aren't around a few days. Do you take water with you when you go to a class-hope so. I can't imagine no a/c-that's awful. It was hot here too and knowing how it was outside, I can only imagine how bad it is in a building with no a/c-please, be careful!!!!

That's it for me now-glad to get on here and get in a post before it takes me forever to play catch-up.

Check in with you all this evening sometime!

Hello everyone! Happy Friday! I am going to have a very busy weekend as it is time for the family reunion :) It should be really fun. Fried turkey is legal right?. I am doing better I think meeting my calorie requirements. I just double up at meals on my lean protein and that seems to be the boost I need. Also, added a fruit smoothie--1/2 cup skim milk,1/2 cup fat free yogurt,5 frozen strawberries and about 1 cup frozen blueberries ( no sugar added of course ). Put 4 splendas in and YUMMERS! Delicious!! :love:I want to ask, where do you guys get those little animated pictures that move at the bottom of the screen? Well I am off. Wish me luck this weekend. Everyone have a good one and be safe.

This motivational and the words of several of you who have shared your concern over my recent decision to take a sabatical from this group, have really made me rethink my decision. So I ask that you allow me to change my mind and rejoin this awesome bunch of women.

Here is the motivational that sumed it all up for me....

If we give each other our full attention and really
listen, we can't help but become closer. I am
nourished by your attention, as you are by mine.

Often our attention is anything but focused: we ask
a question but fail to listen to the answer. We half
listen to the other person, at the same time thinking
about what we will say next, or about something
extraneous to the conversation.

Genuine communication includes pauses and
silences--times when we let ourselves feel the
impact of our friend's words, reflect deeply on
them, and frame our answers carefully before
speaking. In this exchange, we learn, share, receive,
and give. We are participants in a dialogue of mind,
heart, and spirit.

Today, I will focus my attention fully on someone's
words, if only for a few minutes. I will seek to
nourish and be nourished.

Touching, isn't it...

Thank you for caring about me, understanding, and for convincing me that even a once a week check in is better than not communicating at all.

OK--today back on program! Got plenty of protein and was fine. Will put them together one day at a time!

Lara--I'm so glad you are staying. Even if it is only once a week (heck, or even once a month), we still want you to stay with us!
{{{{{hug}}}}}:)

BOB--OK--if you'll cheer my Tigers, I'll sing Rocky Top all the way home and pull up in front of the TV in time to root UT on to victory against USC. I have a very strict policy of rooting against anyone named Carolina! :s: I should get home in time to see the second half of the cocktail party. Go Dawgs!

You know, I grew up going to football games all my life. Course this was in NC where football is really something to do in the fall while waiting for BB season to start. So we showed up a couple of hours before a game and partied hardy till a couple of hours after the game.

It wasn't until I moved to Athens in the fall of 19 and 84 that I saw SEC football. I had never before seen the RV villages that begin to spring up on Thursday night before a home game--the painted cars that suddenly begin showing up in town--the special t-shirts primted for each and every game. Then when I came to Auburn, I thought I knew what to expect--but really you have to see it to beleive it. Auburn-Bama is coming up in three weeks. The RV people will start showing up the SUNDAY before that game. The media will be all over the place--and by the time the game starts on Saturday this place will be rocking!

Liz--the fried turkey should be fine--especially if you don't eat the skin--lots of protein and very little fat!

Deb--usually I can resist the chips, but I had waited so long and was sooooo hungry by the time we got to the restaurant that I just inhaled them! But I do love making chips out of pita bread--and If I know ahead of time I can do the baggie thingie.

Music--good for you on getting rid of the chocolate! I try to be away from home on Halloween so I don't even have to deal with it. Especially since we don't really have trick-or-treaters in my neighborhood anyway. I just end up being stuck with all that candy!

SEF--It's good to hear from you again! I'm still working on that dadblasted stocking. It is starting to look like I won't have it finished in time for Christmas.:o

It will be tomorrow evening, if at all before I get on the board again--so happy saturday everyone!

Hello, everyone, how has your week been. i feel that i have been out of communication. I got the new cable internet connection and it has totolly messed up my laptop computer and just wouldn't work on the desk top. but I got one fixed today, so here I am.

Today is my one year anniversary with SB and trying to lose weight. I am trying to be so excited about what I have accomplished, but I didn't anywhere meet the goals that I had set for myself (which were probably not within reach), but I have lost 79 pounds int he last year and am more active now than I would have ever thought I could be, so i do have a lot to be happy about.:)

Today it was a wonderful chilly day for my walk. I almost want o use the word cold, but then what could I said tomorrow. But it was nice not working up such a sweat that it drips into your eyes. I wonder how hot we will get when this cool weather is over.

BOB, the new health food store is named Sun Splash and it is in Murdock not to far south from the Port Charlotte Town Center Mall. I think that it is related to the Greenary.

I would like to let you all read a copy of the diet that i got on email this week and see what you think:

This is a specially formulated diet designed to help
women cope with the stress that builds during the day.
BREAKFAST
1 grapefruit
1 slice whole-wheat toast
1 cup skim milk
LUNCH
1 small portion lean, steamed chicken with a cup of spinach
1 cup herbal tea
1 Hershey's Kiss
AFTERNOON TEA
The rest of the Hershey Kisses in the bag
1 tub of Hagen-Daaz ice cream with chocolate chip topping
DINNER
4 glasses of wine (red or white)
2 loaves garlic bread
1 family size Supreme pizza
3 Snickers bars
LATE NIGHT SNACK
1 whole Sarah Lee cheesecake (eaten directly from the
freezer)
REMEMBER: "Stressed" spelled backward is "desserts."
Send this to four women and you will lose two pounds.
Send this to all the women you know (or ever knew), and you
will lose 10
pounds.
If you delete this message, you will gain 10 pounds immediately.
(That's why I had to pass this on. I didn't want to risk it!
:)

Hope everyone has a great day. "see" you tomorrow

Would you believe it? :?: I.me, the one who is always bragging about her mountain blood, is cold!!!!! It is probably warmer outside than it is in the house! I had to dig through storage to find a long sleeved top. I never wore one last year. Could it be that I am turning into a southerner? Last week I am passing out from heat, today there is an icicle hanging from my nose!!!

Lara - So glad you are going to stay with us! We'll take you anyway we can as long as you keep posting.

SUSAN - Can't you stitch while you are watching TV? You have about 8 weeks before Christmas. I finished the bookmark I was working on (thought I'd lose my eyes trying to backstitch and 18 count!) have now started a little pic of chipmunks playing under a toadstool. Just persevere!

LAMAP - How wonderful 79# in a year! You can be sooo proud of yourself! What an accomplishment!! I could follow that email diet without any trouble at all!!

GATOR/BOB/and OTHERS - You mean there's a football game on TV? Imagine that!!! Such excitement over such a silly little thiing! Now if it were racing, figure skating, gymnastics I could understand all the fuss! I can hear a football game on TV downstairs but don't know what they are watching.

Think I will go to Boxerjam and then stitch. :) You all be good and take care. sef

Good Saturday Afternoon Everyone:wave:

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend so far. It's a beautiful and cooler (not cold by any means) day here in SOFLA. A bit too windy if you want my opinion, warmed up a tad too much for me during the day, but LOTS better than it has been. I can't wait for tomorrow morning for my walk, it's going to be glorious out there!

Garage sales basically sucked big time-you'd think on such a beautiful weekend there would be lots of them, but there wasn't and what ones there was stunk. Only thing I got worth mentioning is a FOOSBALL TABLE for my nephew, part of an early Chanukah present I guess-was in perfect condition. My BIL wanted to ring my neck though, he said "another thing out on the patio!!!" He'll be the first one to play, I'm sure.

Thought the scale would be up today, ate way more than I should of yesterday and felt bloated. Still feel bloated, but scale stood at 120:D It won't for long, TOM is due by Wednesday, so there's a gain coming in my future.

Other than that, nothing else doing down here. Tired, so looking for a relaxing evening at home. Lauren's out shopping at the mall for a few hours, and Michael is going with friends to a movie in about an hour. Eli's due home in a little while, dinner is going to be fast and easy, hummus and falafels-my kind of cooking!;)

MUSIC, just remember, if you learn from your mistakes, it's a well taught lesson;) Giving away that candy was the first step-good for you!!!!

LIZ, sounds like you've made a yummy concoction! Just watch yourself if you seem to go up. The SPLENDA has maltodextrin in it, so you want to make sure you don't have too much in 1 day of that-I can't even tell you what too much would be considered as, but if that's all you're using within a day, you'll probably be okay. Twice I've over done it with Splenda in the past and saw the scale go up (I really at too much of what I made that had that as the sweetner), a reason I rarely ever use it and watch what I eat that has it in there. Hate putting a damper on things, but just want to give you a heads up, just in case you may see a problem, you'll know that the Splenda may be the culprit.

LDBLOND, you know how I feel-glad you're still with us:)

BOB, glued to that TV today, I bet! I think it was Dec. 12th that Eli told me. Doggie bag, sure, for Skeeter-gonna fight him over it??? It was delicious!!! Your spot there is waiting for you! Don't like my dance???

FILLISE, glad to hear your back OP and feeling better:) Hmmm, how about making those pita chips and just sticking them to keep in the car, they'd probably be good for a long time-at least if you ever got stuck somewhere, you'd have something to snack on. Seriously-have you ever put flavorings on them?? I did some with garlic, I sure stunk bad, but they were pretty good!

LAMAP, CONGRATS ON YOUR 1 YEAR SB ANNIVERSARY!!!! Be proud of what you've accomplished, it's a lot of weight to lose regardless of what your expectations were when you started. Like you, I thought that when I started SB I'd make my goal by my bday of LAST YEAR (2000)-as I went on with SB I knew I wasn't going to make that goal, it wasn't practical-hoped it would be in Dec. 2000-still didn't work out-took me until JUNE 2001 to make it to my destination-and you know what, it didn't matter that I didn't make my goal for my 39th bday, I was there for my 40th and the feeling was good. The time flies by so fast, before you know it, you'll be at goal!! You know, you have to look at the "BIG PICTURE." I've seen that "diet" before, it's cute-actually, looks like diets I've done in the past:eek:

SEF, LOL! I complain and complain about the heat, but the first "cold front" that rolls in, I start saying it's chilly, I'm cold. Actually, this is how I've been told this-we now get cold because we have less fat on our bodies to insulate us-that's Eli's reasoning! He tells me I'm always cold now where as before, I was hot all the time-I'll take being thinner and cold any time-I can put clothes to make me warm on, but being hot, well, there's only so much you can take off!

Time for me to get back into the kitchen and whip up the hummus for Eli. I'll check back later, or tomorrow some time.

Have a great weekend!

Hey Ladies, what a beautiful day this has been here in SE part of TX! Got up to a chilly 42 degrees this am & headed for dd's church where they had they had their Fall Festival planned with games & fun for all ages. Apple bobbing, a Dunk a Decon booth, cake walk, a Moon Walk, & other games for all to enjoy. The men of the church had been up most of the night preparing BBQ burgers, ribs, & brisket. I had the brisket & beans, no sauce. But I'm afraid I could not resist the brownies that dd had prepared for the cake walk. I had 3 pieces :o . Bad Mary:(

Well, we'll be heading home tomorrow & I'll be getting back OP for sure.

sef & Debelli, Saw the conversation about the cooler weather & being cold. I agree. When I was heavier I was ALWAYS hot. I use to fuss with a certain nurse at work cause she wanted the heater on & I didn't. We now both agree on the time to turn the heat on  Debbie, I agree with Eli, I also think it's because we have lost our fat store. That is the only thing I have been able to come up with as the reason my inner thermostat has changed. Now, I still have the HOT FLASHES, but as soon as it passes, I'm cold again. :?: Go figure.

Just thought I would check in.....bet you all thought I had fallen off the face of the earth. We have a whirlwind couple of days. Friday night was the BIG high school football. It was with our big rival. Our school broke off from them 6 years ago when we started our school and we are only 3 miles apart so it makes for a really big game. Well we LOST!!!! It was the second year in a row that we lost to them. I have a sore throat from all the hollering. At least our band beat thier band in competition last week.
Today I had grocery shopping this morning and then a baby shower this afternoon. I ate only nuts and drank coffee. I was good ....yes it was very tempting but I don't want to gain back those 2 pounds I lost this week. Then after the shower we had a hobo dinner.....now for those who don't know ....this is a dinner which consists of Smoked Sausage, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, corn on the cob cooked in big tin barrels over an open fire. It is so good and I had a carrot and a small piece of corn. But other than that I ate only smoked sausage and cabbage. It was good but we are very cold here and it was COLD. Now my hair smells like smoke after hugging the fire all night.

BOB.......my hubby and son are watching the Tennesee game right now. I hope you win .....I guess.........j/k.

Deb.......your hummus sounds good ......I need to make that some time soon. I used pita bread today for chips with some dip.......they were really good. What I did was take WW pita bread that was frozen and put in microwave for 1 min and it came out perfect to break up in bite size pieces.

Sef.......it always seems colder to me when we have had lots of really warm weather like this past week. Then when the temps drop .....LOOK OUT!!!!

lamap......congrats on your year anniversay.......79 pounds in one year is fantastic.....go ahead and brag girl!!!!

TV......I want you to know that I have sent you emails to work and they keep coming back. It has happened to my brothers emails too......what is going on with the system there. I tryed...LOL

Going to surf a while.......You all have a good rest of the weekend.

Evening......How is everyone????

I'm doing great. Just wanted to get in a quick word and let you all know I'm thinking about you!!! My Mom and two brothers are coming over for dinner tonight. Making a pork roast that smells delicious!

Went shopping a little bit today. Daydreaming for when our refinancing money comes through and I can actually afford to buy some things. Pays to shop around, especially with the furniture around here. Can't wait to start redecorating the casa. Very exciting!

Glad to see a few of the oldies post who haven't been around in a while!!!

Hello all!

I have a question for you all. How do you get your protein in the morning? I tend to consume more carbs, especially in the AM. I've tried Dannon's Light'nFit and light Yoplait yogurts. Don't they seem high in sugars (even if it's aspartame/fructose)? I'm not partial to protein powders, but I can try them again (the smoothie method sounds best:)). It's just faster grabbing some rye bread or cereal. Any suggestions?

Lamap - You should be so proud of yourself, losing 79 pounds! Your committment for a whole year is a lot more than most people could do (doing anything, not just SB). I really admire you and all these ladies for their dedication and the goal to make oneself healthier and happier. All of you give encouragement and support for these trials we go through together.

BTW, do you think your goals were realistic? Per WW, one should be able to lose 1-4#/week. They suggest setting a mini-goal of 10% of your current body weight. It is so much more attainable, and it's not that far off. Then, if needed, you set a second 10% goal based on the new body weight. For the future you set the ultimate goal. It's like that Richard Dreyfuss/Bill Murray movie, "What about Bob?" where you start with baby steps.:)

LDBlond - Welcome back (I know, I know, I'm still a newbie... so nice meeting you too!) I agree with you. I think the forum allows us time to pause and think a little more than natural conversation, a definite plus. Although, I still tend to put my foot in my mouth. :D

Music- For the last 2 years, I've been bringing the H'ween candy to work, as my trick-or-treaters are almost non-existent here. Otherwise, DH and I would scarf them down.

Debelli- I can never figure out the xxx/xxx/xxx for the weight at the end of the post. I started at 150, my mini-goal is 135, my ultimate goal is 115-120. I'm now at 142. Gatorgal was surprised at my goal, but I'm 5'1" and my BMI was 28 which is NOT good (the good range is 20-25). Now it's down to 26.9. My "supposed" IDEAL body weight for height is 107.5 +/- 10%.

Isn't it weird about family members, they have no compunction about telling you whether they think you're too fat or too thin. Have you checked your ideal weight/height and BMI? I think you can use that info to support yourself when they say something like that.

I had a nice perk at the doc's yesterday! Their scale said 138! I've been zeroing my home scale with the one at work. Maybe I should zero it to the one at my doc's office!:s:

GatorGal- Hope you feel better. :)

BOB- the persimmons need to be REALLY soft and gushy for you to get the best flavor out of them.

Sef- I'm with you. Figure skating, and Gymnastics are the sports I love. I did Gymnastics in HS (so long ago). That was when I finally reached my model weight-- 102lbs! But that was too thin even though most of it was muscle. It's a hard sport on the body. Figureskating is just so beautiful, and yet requires such skill.

Well, I better go. My DH is wondering where I've disappeared to.

Hello everyone! I just read last weeks post, and realized that I had some questions from you all. I feel terrible not responding to your posts while I was in Orlando, I had no access to the net over there. So I'll backtrack a bit

Meliris -I've never gone to the higher end outlet stores. I've never been a brand name person, but I must say there is quality in their clothes. I live near one of those outlets, I think I'm going to have to check out the Liz Claiborne one. I know what you mean by classic- they never go out of style, and you never say "What was I thinking!" Lucky you to never have to hem. I had one (lucky) tall lady tell me she loved how my pants went past the upper edge of my shoe (these I was too lazy to hem). She always had problems with the pant leg being either just right or a tad high. Frankly, I would have taken an inch or two off her height for myself!

Sparkle - An embryologist works in the laboratory end of an infertility clinic. Usually we are involved with the
eggs, and embryos. Some embryologists, like me, also work with the sperm (usually called Andrologists).
Re: feeding your guests, I can't imagine not offering food and drink to guests in my home (sometimes the visits can last for hours! I suppose if I went to France, I'd be starving!

Fruitloupe - I know the infertility medical terms are so negative, starting with the word infertility. :( I like to say that I'm with a Fertility clinic, not an infertility clinic. My clinic sees ladies with multiple miscarriages. I've learned a couple of things working in the clinic, but I'm no doctor, just a lab person.
These are personal opinions, but the main things I've learned are:
1. See a Specialist.
In my field, they're called Reproductive Endocrinologists. They should also be board certified. This means they had to take a specialized test and pass. There are docs out there in the field that are not board certified. I'm not saying that the care is any different, but if I were paying for treatment, I would want that. I know that your family doctor or gyn/ob may be the best, and you love them, but their experience is limited, and you may not get the best care. Some couples are lucky and need low-tech care (like inseminations) or they need to go to the high tech stuff (like IVF- in vitro fertilization/"test-tube babies"). That's usually where I get involved.
Fruitloupe- after 3 miscarriages, your OB should have referred you to a specialist.
2. A woman's age has a lot to do with being able to have a baby. This fact scares me, since having kids is still off in the future for me. I'm seeing women younger than myself coming in for treatment.
3. Make sure that you and your partner are comfortable with the clinic. You are putting your faith and trust in them. If you have bad vibes, find someone else.
4. If you go to a fertility clinic for IVF - check their statistics, especially for your age range. You can check the statistics nationwide at www.asrm.org (this is the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, it also has info for patients) there's a site that directs you to 1995-1998 stats which is compiled by the CDC. The fertility clinic should also provide you with their current stats, although that may take a few days.
My email address is listed on the bio site if you wish to write to me personally. Please remember, I'm a lab person, but I'll try to help if I can.

GatorGal- Thanks for the compliments. You're an  I had a great time with you and your DD. Your DD should go far, she's outgoing, friendly, and ambitious. I hope she does well. I would have loved to gone out again, but it gets so hectic at the meetings. I came home exhausted. Somehow, I managed to pick up a bug (sore throat, cough). I can see how the stress of all that studying and a non-stop week would leave me with a weak immune system. How did the pics come out? That was one dark restaurant, I guess most of their customers are there for romance and a nightclub. I wish I could have brought a digital camera, but the one we used for the pic I emailed you was from DH's work. Shhh....:s:

Btw, hope no one was offended by the dietpill cartoon. I thought it was funny, but also true in a sad way, there is no quick fix.

Well, it's time to go to sleep. Goodnight all.

Hi ladies!

Debbie
Well 120. That's pretty amazing! I'm afraid I'm going to have to steal your little "whoohoo" graphic and use it sometimes because it's SO me.

Thanks for sharing the Dr. Bob recommendations and introduction. It sounds like good information. I just started reading a book called, "I want to change but I don't know how." It's pretty good so far.

I will use Splenda for the Mandelbrot of course! I'm not sure if I will make them this weekend or not. But I'll let you know. I bought some almond extract from Wal*Mart and got it home, turned out I grabbed vanilla instead! Grrrr....I already have a bucketful of THAT.

GatorGal
Good luck with the foot. I know how bad injuries can be when you work out a lot. I'm glad you're able to continue your program. When I couldn't do cardio because of my thyroid and no upper body because of my wrist at the same time, I finally made some progress on the stubborn abs! So I know you will be fine.
I've noticed in the past that you have a wonderful way of expressing things, and your words above are true and wise. Anything, including the scale, can be used for good or harm. Most of my life I've tuned out my body and my weight and everything, but weighing all the time, for me, can have the same effect as never weighing at all . . . it provides a distraction, something to focus my energies on, something to blame my mood upon. Weighing can be as much of a drug as food when it's used to tune out from what's really happening. Everyone is different. For me, it's a matter of finding a happy medium between being obsessed with the scale and ignoring my body. And it's not just about the scale. It's about my not being able to lose weight unless I become completely obsessed with the whole process. I just want to get into a normal, healthy routine and let the impatience and obsession go while I SLOWLY improve my life and health. I know I'll never be completely free from my obsessive/compulsive personality, but I've made a lot of progress already.I was reminded that the book I am presently reading would be one you might find captivating. It is called “Soul Survivor--How My Faith Survived the Church” by Philip Yancey. Thanks for the recommendation. I think that may be just what I need to read right now especially since I'm contemplating writing a book about my experiences myself.

Nancy
Glad things are going better!

Anyway so far so good today.Sorry that would be one DEAD friend. I don't blame you for eating the chips. Debbie's question this week in the poll made me think about when I tend to want to eat the most. And I realized that I never had given the matter much thought. The answer would be when I'm stressed and/or bored, and since I'm so easily bored sitting and waiting for two hours is about the worst thing anybody could do to me! :)

Tree and Shirley
Welcome back!

Lara
I was going to write you an email since I wasn't sure you were going to be checking back in. But I'm so spacey that of course I never got around to writing it. So I just wanted to let you know that I was going to say I was going to miss you. I remember when you used to be able to post here more. Well the fact that you kept checking the board after you said you were going to take a break is a sure sign you don't wanna leave us!!!!!! So stick around.....yes an occasional hi is okay we just want to hear your voice, so to speak.

Laurie
I thought it had been a while since we heard from you, it's hard when I haven't been able to keep up until very recently. Anyway 79 pounds is more than a milestone it's a whole life changing experience! Believe me you are not the only one who isn't as far along as she thought she would be by this point but the collective progess of this group is simply AMAZING to me.

Tree
For protein in the mornings there is only one word I know: EGGS. I love eggs. They are simply miraculous. They are $2.17 for a dozen and a half at Costco in Paradise where everything is ridiculously expensive and they taste great too. If you want to reduce your fat you simply mix the eggs with egg whites or just eat the whites, which, while is only my opinion, most bodybuilders will agree is the best source of protein out there.

An omelet with 3 whites and one egg is divine with or without a little meat or cheese. Just plain boiled eggs (I eat them without salt) are portable and good. If you're brave, and I don't necessarily recommend this, you can put a couple of egg whites in your smoothies. After you get used to it it doesn't have any taste unlike all protein powders and it makes the smoothie a little frothy too.

Or with an electric mixer you can experiment with the most divine thing ever invented ... eggs whites beaten with cream of tartar until stiff peaks form. They work in omelets, main dish casseroles, waffles, pancakes, wonderful meringue and sugar free cakes.

Or my latest kick which is sugar free "cheesecake" made with cottage cheese, which I'm finally getting a little tired of. ;) Makes an excellent breakfast and when baked ahead of time, is instant and portable.

Okay off of my egg rant. I eat so many eggs I'm scared to say how many! I eat meat, but it's more expensive and I don't like to eat it all the time, especially for mini-meals or snacks so my protein is usually either eggs or cottage cheese (or both).

Oh I forgot about cottage cheese. Another excellent source of protein. And with a blender you can transform the stuff into something far removed from its lumpy original!!!! Like the above mentioned cheesecake or waffles, or a moulded dessert with gelatin, Splenda, milk and some kind of extract.

Okay now I'm finished. I liked your cartoon. Hilarious!

Thanks for the explanation of what an embryologist is. So basically you get the little buggers ready to implant back in the mother? ;)

:)

As usual it's almost midnight. I had a very productive day despite it being the first day of my period and being sick and nauseated all day. Went to work, got my prescriptions filled, did some serious shopping I've been putting off since June (more below), cleaned up and made dinner that actually turned out GOOD.

Since I've been experimenting in the kitchen Martin has been VERY WARY. He spends most of his time making fun of my cooking so I was getting a little nervous and paranoid when I was making dinner. I sort of actually followed a recipe for a veggie chicken casserole with a roux/sour cream sauce and a light bread crumb topping but did a little whiz-bang on the spices etc. Well all of this got pretty elaborate so after several hours, when the dish was safely in the oven, ALL the dishes washed and the floor scrubbed Martin walks in and makes jokes about not dying because he won't be eating. So just because I've been nervous about the subject I suppose I burst into tears.

But everything turned out okay, it was very good, the chicken tender and the flavor excellent, and Martin had a cautious first helping and a very large second helping. Then I forced him to say, "That was excellent, Chris. You are so sweet. THANK YOU for dinner." Which was enough revenge. ;)

So that's how it got to be almost midnight. Oh I was watching cosmetic surgery gone wrong on Discovery Health or some such cable channel. Horrific but still won't dissuade me from getting that tummy tuck but only after I reach my goal in size.

So the bestest and most exciting news! Martin gave me a hundred bucks on my birthday back in June to buy a prescription mask so that I could go scuba diving with him, but I never got around to it. Well, we went to Hawaii Sea Adventures to get the mask, which I expected would cost about $160 dollars. Found a perfect mask, but he didn't have the left lens in my strength and I thought I would have to wait two weeks to get it! But he found it mislabeled in another box and I walked out of there with my mask TODAY and it only cost $88!!!! I was thrilled beyond words.

Then we drove out to Haleiwa on the North Shore to this particular Xcell outlet to get a wet suit. I told the (cute) sales guy that I was looking for a shortie (short sleeves and pants) and he casually walks to this rack and says, about what are you, a ten?

And I kind of gasped because this kind of situation has set up extreme panic for me all my life. Doing ANYTHING let alone buying a wet suit off the rack is a major ordeal when you are somewhere in the upper side of 16. Surprised at the answer I stammered, "yes, I am."

So he grabs a couple of suits and shows them to me, turns out there are four colors to choose from in a size 10. So I grab two and (with the assurance from cute sales guy and Martin that they are SUPPOSED to be tight) THEY FIT!!!! It was an incredible moment. So I got the plain black one because heaven forbid something doesn't match.

Finally to Wal*Mart for my dive booties and other things to spend money on. Martin has the tanks and he's going to borrow the regulator and BC from a friend of hours who has something wrong with his ear and can't dive right now. (That's another thing, being able to fit into somebody's BC especially a miniature 125 pound guy ;) ) So we are good to go after months and months and months of waiting on me to get my *** in gear!!!!!!

And of course, in characteristic style, it's raining. And supposed to rain for at least four more days. I live in Hawaii! This is not supposed to happen! ;)

Excuse me while I calm down.

The good thing is that I was determined after a very stressful day yesterday to gobble lots of something horrible and told myself I didn't need to. The bad news is that I did sneak a pack of Jelly Bellys from the counter at the gas station while Martin waited in the truck and I was supposed to be only getting the change (hurry, slow sales girl, hurry please) and after eating yes all of them I felt that familiar yet unfamiliar horrible, depressed, suicidal feeling and if there was any DOUBT in my mind that it was sugar that was making my depression worse if not CAUSING it altogether (which I do believe, although negative thought have something to do with it too).

So that's my confession. Or most of it. ;)

Martin installed Windows XP on his computer. He actually BOUGHT it. That took a long time and I wasn't sure if my Internet access was going to work at all after that, so it was a scary few hours. (We are networked together at home....and at work).

Okay, must go beddie bye.

ttyl,

Chris

Good Sunday Morning Everyon!

What a beautiful day here in Miami, it's cool, not cold with a slight breeze out there.

I'm doing a HAPPY DANCE!!!! I went out for my 4.5 mile walk/jog and DID MY BEST TIME EVER!!!!! I did it in 47:27, beating my best time of just last week by 1 minute 4 seconds!!!!! Needless to say, not only am I happy:D but it was so nice to get in such a good time for myself without dying from the heat out there and coming in sweating profusely!

Scale is being nice to me and letting me hold my own at 120. I know that will start going up in the next few days, but it's so nice to be able to see that number for a while;)

Eli is off today, not sure what our plans are, but surely we'll end up in Broward. May go to the flea market since the weather is so nice.

My Mom sent me the following, thought I'd post it, thought it was cute:

We Can Do It!

Take all American women who are within five years of menopause.
Train us for a few weeks, outfit us with automatic weapons, grenades, gas masks, moisturizer with SPF15, Prozac, hormones, chocolate, and canned tuna. Drop us (parachuted, preferably) across the landscape of Afghanistan, and let us do what comes naturally. Think about it. Our anger quotient alone, even when doing standard
stuff like grocery shopping and paying bills, is formidable enough to
make even armed men in turbans tremble.

We've had our children. We would gladly suffer or die to protect
them and their future. We'd like to get away from our husbands, if they
haven't left already. And for those of us who are single, the prospect
of finding a good man with whom to share life is about as likely as
being struck by lightning. We have nothing to lose.

We've survived the water diet, the protein diet, the carbohydrate diet,
and the grapefruit diet in gyms and saunas across America and
never lost a pound. We can easily survive months in the hostile terrain
of Afghanistan with no food at all!

We've spent years tracking down our husbands or lovers in bars,
hardware stores, or sporting events...finding bin Laden in some cave
will be no problem.

Uniting all the warring tribes of Afghanistan in a new government?
Oh, please ... we've planned the seating arrangements for in-laws
and extended families at Thanksgiving dinners for years ... we
understand tribal warfare.

Between us, we've divorced enough husbands to know every trick
there is for how they hide, launder, or cover up bank accounts and
money sources. We know how to find that money, and we know
how to seize it ...with or without the government's help!

Let us go and fight. The Taliban hates women. Imagine their
terror as we crawl like ants with hot-flashes over their godforsaken
terrain.

I'm going to write my Congresswoman. You should, too!
*************************************

MELF, sounds like you are continuing your trek across the country and enjoying each and every moment. The church FALL FESTIVAL sounds fun, we don't see much of those kinds of things here in the big city, one of the reasons I'd love to live in a smaller community, more family orientated and more things to do with the community, at least I think so. I believe that Eli has finally come up with something worth noting about the fat-just think, I'll finally be able to wear a sweater because I'm cold-for years, I owned 1 sweater that got hardly any use at all out of it. I was always warm, even in what winters we had here-now, if I eat some Carbolite, I have to ask him to turn down the a/c in the car, I get so chilly-he just rolls his eyes at me:) Hoping you have a safe trip home-I'm sure it will be nice for you to get back into your routine and familiar surroundings.

BOB, not only did I make him hummus, but taratour AND yogurt and cucumber-all three are made with garlic-he was stinkin Lincoln last night-in more ways than one:eek: NEVER should he complain about me and my gas, not after what he did last night!!!!! TREE is right, you have to wait until the persimmons are very soft, otherwise, if you try to eat them too early, you'll look like you've got a sour puss face!

BUSDEB, sorry to hear about the loss, but there's always next year to look forward to winning! Like you said, at least your band did better!! Good for you for staying OP, keeping that 2lb loss in mind does make one think twice about screwing up. Try toasting the pita instead of nuking it, just seems to bring out the flavor and a bit more cripsy this way. I do mine in the toaster oven, on 200 for just a few minutes-have to keep watch of it.

NANCE, how are things going with being back OP? Someone seems to of left their computer on all night long;)

TREE, try making a "milkshake" before eating anything else in the morning, at least a glass of milk. Cottage cheese is good to eat too, maybe some eggs. The recipe for the WHEAT GERM CRUNCH is also good. There's lots of ways to get in your protein, but from Arnot's book, he says something to the effect of having protein 15 minutes before anything else. I'll try to get that excerpt on the board this week. I started trying this idea this week, and I see a definite difference. The weights at the end of the posts should be your start weight/current weight/goal weight. I think I mess up some people since my current is below my goal. I don't know about your goal weight being good for you. I know for me, the low end for my height is 119, high was 129. What chart are you looking at. Are you small/med/big boned? Yes, family use to have no qualms about telling me that I was too fat! VERY CUTE CARTOON!!!! Thanks for sharing.

SPARKLE, will be interested in knowing how the Splenda works out for the Mandelbrot, can't imagine how it will taste, or how the texture will be-be sure to let me know!!! Congrats on getting a great deal on your mask-patience paid off & for the new dive suit!

Okay gals, must run and get into the shower. I'll check with you all this evening. Please remember, the NEW WEEKLY SUPPORT BOARD STARTS TOMORROW and it's MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY so if you have any words of wisdom, quotes or stories that will help up on our journey, please, try to post them tomorrow!

Have a good Sunday.

Hi Debbie and everyone else ! BTW - I hope I spelled your name correctly ? If not - sorry ! :) I wanted to thank you again for letting me know about this support board for Sugar Busters !!! :) I've printed off some BIOS and also some great stuff from that site you mentioned on the low carb board. I'll take all of these to lunch to read ! :) I just finished the Sugar Buster's book and it was easy reading.

Has anyone heard about a newer version of the book ? I think it was Barnes and Noble talked of one but they couldn't get it right now ? It said that it was a hard cover and that it had come out I believe Dec. 2000 (if my memory serves me right). :) I'd sure like the latest version if there is one ?

I'm still trying to absorb all that I've read. It seems like an easier version (compared to Atkin's) of low carb to follow. I guess you do watch your fats tho - which probably isn't a bad idea. Plus I wouldn't have to count carbs anymore ? Just basically eat the stuff that doesn't cause a sharp increase in the insulin etc. ? One thing I'm a little confused about tho is - I remember reading somewhere ? about how if you eat a high glycemic food along with a low one - you'd end up with a mid one ? It might have been in the G- Index diet ? Or the Glycemic Index Diet ? I've read so many books lately that I'm getting confused ! BUT I do remember reading that. I think the ADA might also feel that way ? What do you guys think ?

I've been following Atkin's for a week and 1/2 and even tho I've not been hungry... I do feel a bit apprehensive about eating all this fat ? Plus I've been eyeing some apples on the counter and it seems weird to consider them high glycemic ? I guess on Sugar Buster's I could eat them ? Plus, I'd like to find some whole grain bread products to eat ! :) Do we have to watch the carbs ? Sugar ? Just get low sugar or what ?

Another question please ? Do we not want to go into Ketosis here ? And I just bought a whole bunch of ketosticks !

Thanks for all your help ! Sugar Buster's sound like just the plan I've been looking for !!! I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and reading all your bios, success stories etc. later on today ! :)

Take care and have a Super Sunday !!! :) Denise

Hi all! This was sent to me and I thought it was funny. Hope you enjoy it

My church is having a Fall Festival today and I volunteered to help decorate, so will be gone most of day. Will have to check posts later.

Evening All:wave:

Had a nice day out with the COFFEE MAN:D We went to ART IN THE PARK which was an art show conveniently 1 block away from Ole Ole:s: So, guess where we went to lunch!!! Twice in 1 week, not too bad. Off to Carbolite (they go hand-in-hand) for a medium, white chocolate & pb swirl on the bottom, vanilla on top-delicious!;) Super Walmart on the way home, deal once again on those huge Asian pears for .69 cents each-1 alone weight 13 ounces! So basically, that was my Sunday-uneventful, but nice.

Feeling bloated this evening, won't be surprised if the scale is up some tomorrow. Some interesting news...tried on those size 6 Calvins I've had for 6 years sitting in my drawer, they fit with some room-didn't wear them though! Just feel weird in them-but they sure are nice to try on!!

DNEEES, WELCOME TO THE BOARD! Glad to see your post. I'll try my best to answer some of your questions...Name spelled correctly, thanks! I haven't heard of a newer version of SB coming out anytime in the future, though they just came out with SB FOR KIDS which I was unimpressed with myself. I do think there are 2 versions of SB, you should be able to get the latest, I'd think, at your library. Nothing I'd buy, esp. if you already read the other one. What I would recommend reading is Michael Montignacs book EAT YOURSELF SLIM. He's the one who wrote about this WOE first, and the men who wrote SB just took his information and made a US version before MM could. SB is definitely NOT LOW CARB, though many people think it is. SB recommends approx 30% of your daily intake come from fat, 40% from carbs & 30% from protein. Many on SB don't keep track of their intake and do fine, personally, I keep track because I find, esp. in the beginning, many people don't eat enough, which is just as bad as eating too much, after a while, you won't lose. So, until one gets familiar with portions, I suggest keeping a food journal, whether on paper or on a site like fitday.com-but this is just my recommendations and is not something set in stone or something the SB books says you should do. I just think it helps. You are correct, if you take a low and high GI food and put them together, you'll get a moderate GI rating. I can't say much about Atkins, I've read the book and knew right away it didn't sound healthy, but mostly, I knew it was something I wouldn't be able to do for any length of time. I wanted a WOE to be just that, a WOE, not a diet, something I could follow the rest of my life and I found it eating low GI foods. I personally can't fathom not only eating all that fat, but all that protein-it's just not healthy, no matter what way you look at it. On the apples, apples are low GI and are perfectly okay to eat on SB. There are only a few fruits you are unable to eat on SB, but the ones you can eat far outweight the ones you can't. Breads are not a problem, there's quite a few ones out there that can fit the bill-depending on where you live. As for sugars, you can have foods that have 3grams of sugar PER SERVING. Just remember, there are some fods that have natural sugars, like milk, yogurt, tomato sauce and a few others. Just read the ingredients to make sure there's NO ADDED SUGARS in there. Again, I stay away from stuff when I see it has sugar, or any form of sugar added. No KETOSIS done here-if you decide to go full force on SB, can you take them back? Don't be afraid to ask questions, we'll be happy to try our best to answer them to the best of our ability. BTW, whereabouts are you from???? Again, WELCOME!

SEF, you are too funny! That e-mail must of gone around the e-mail circut a lot today.;)

Okay, I'm outta here for now-going to start the new boards for next week a bit early and then the new weekly support board in the AM.

Hello everyone!

Debelli (& Sef) - Love that "We Can Do it!"

I tried Lizery's (?) milk shake this AM w/ vanilla yog, protein & peaches. Yum! Hey, is the carbolite ice cream available online?

Re: my goal weight. I weighed 107 in HS, and wore a size 7. I know I can't go back there! I think 115-120 is a good goal. I am small-boned (the wrist test), and I even used to look like my Taiwanese relatives way back when. I also had no curves! My DS was the figure 8. :p Now I have curves (is that the only blessing in disguise for gaining weight?).

Don't you find it funny that most body weight/height, BMI, and all those calculators never take into account Age? I guess they assume a 20 yr old should weigh the same as a 50yr old (despite gravity, activity level, metabolism, kids, etc).

Congrats on reaching your goal and then some, and THEN maintaining it! WhooHoo! Size 6 Calvins! Make sure they don't rip in the seat though (course you don't have dry rot going on in Fla right?). Luckily, I was at home when it happened to me.

Sparkle- Re: So... you get the little buggers ready to implant back in the mother?-- Yup! We're only a way station to the womb. Sorry, I know those of us in the field have a weird sense of humor. Write me personally if you want to talk. :)

Is your sugar free "cheesecake" made with cottage cheese on the recipe page? I am so in need of 'Portable food"! You sound like my DH-- "Recipe!? What recipe, I just added stuff as I went along!"

LADIES, we have a GOURMET Chef in the house - Mademoiselle Sparkle!

Dneees - Welcome! I tried Atkins for a while too. I hated meat, craved my salad (which is not me at all), and only reached mild ketosis. I felt terrible. Once the carb cravings were gone, I was never hungry. But, I only lost 2 lbs.

On the reverse side, I have a friend who is doing a modified Atkins with a nutritionist. She's lost quite a bit of weight. She moved from moderate to mild ketosis because she feels better in that range (she had a lot of GI difficulties).

According to SB, apples, pears, oranges are the lowest GI, but also the pit fruit (cherries, peaches) are legal. And raspberries are good, because they have a lot of fiber.

I feel like SB is not really a low carb diet, but a low sugar. high fiber diet. You can eat most carbs (barring white rice, white potatoes, and corn*), as long as they haven't been highly processed, --so stone ground (SG), and whole wheat (WW), and whole grains (WG) are what you look for in your breads and cereals. Most ladies here seem to use Agave Nectar/Syrup,and the synthetic sugars (Equal, Nutrasweet, Splenda, Stevia). I prefer to use Fructose, even though it is usually made from corn. *Nothing is truly ILLEGAL, but the GI value needs to be taken into account, and of course that awful word "MODERATION".

There's a neat site called "A sane way of eating" at

www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/sugarbusters/index.htm She also has a list of SB legal foods (with brand names).

I haven't tried the Ketostix on this diet. I feel that I consume enough carbs that it wouldn't register. If they're unopened, you should be able to return the ketosticks. The one thing I really hated with the Atkins diet, was how hard it was to adapt to real life. I even bought the cookbook, which turned out horribly bland food. Not worth the money! I gave it my friend who's on Atkins, but she wasn't too interested in it.

I'm like you, I want to compare the different diets out there. I think the librarians think I'm a diet addict. :o I read the GI index, and the Glucose Revolution. There's some contradictory info among these. I decided to start out with the SB and see if it worked. So far it has. Once I feel comfortable with SB, I'll play around with modifying it. However, I don't eat fruit 30min before or 2hrs after a meal, like SB says.

Sorry, I got long-winded there! :)

I'm sending a pic taken in June of me and my DNiece. Hope it goes through.

Well, it's a good thing I got a lot of exercise in this week, because my aunt's party was a sit down
afternoon meal at a chinese restaurant, and I don't think anything was legal except the brown rice. I tried read hard to minimize damage, but...So it's gonna be a lot of h20 for me, and don't look at the scale tomorrow! But it was nice seeing family I hadn't seen in years, and getting compliments from those I'd only seen six months ago. I actually got in front of a few cameras for the first time in years, so when my brother downloads his from his digi camera, I'll post one or two and you all can see a face.

Welcome Dneees! ( hope I got the right # of 'e's.

Deb- I think you're jogging, not walking! That's a really fast time for 4.5 miles even if it is flat there! And size6 jeans? I didn't know anyone over the age of 22 could wear size 6!

Tree- Glad you had a good time in FLA and are safely back home. Cute pic! Where did you find a BMI calculator? a friend who is a fitness instructor told be the only way to calculate it is with a water immersion method.

Gotta go clean up the kitchen so I can face coming downstairs tomorrow- hope you all had a good SB weekend!

LAURIE--Well, THAT’s why I gained that 10 pounds on my vacation last month! I got one of those women’s stress diet e-mails, and I didn’t send it on to anyone. Hmmm. I wondered why I put those 10 pounds on so easily. LOL

Our trip out of town was great fun but not conducive for the most healthy eating. In fact, at almost every meal there was almost nothing that I felt really comfortable eating. For example, the night we got there, Friday, we went out to their friends house. They had a “low-country shrimp boil,” and the shrimp was the ONLY thing that was either healthy or legal. Boiled corn, fatty sausages, potatoes, and lots of dips with doritos or crackers. Dessert was cookies. Our hosts took us to lunch after church and selected a place with a special Sunday menu. It just happened to be ONLY eggs benedict ala everything. Very fatty. There was nothing else on the menu. I filled up on salad and picked the insides out of an omelet.

The weekend itself was really fun, though. We had a great dinner on Saturday night. Good ole roasted hot dogs that tasted mighty fine!!!! ;) I also took a sugar free jello salad with cranberries, apples and some nuts in it. I also took a box of oatmeal, and instead of the waffles that were fixed in the morning, I fixed up some oatmeal for myself.

SolShine--I looked on the web to see how the Bulldogs did yesterday, but couldn’t find any score. Did they play? If so, I hope they did better.
Fillise--My condolences. The Hogs really got y’all.
BOB--Looks like the Gamecocks gave y’all a tussle.
Missy--I couldn’t find the final score for the LSU game, but it looked like y’all might have had a sad ending to the game. This just must not be LSU’s year. Hope next year it is a better one. :)
BusDeb--How did the Tide do? Well, I hope.

lamap--Congratulations on your great loss for this year. That is an amazing feat and I know that you will reach your goal eventually. Just keep on keeping on!

Tree--Cottage cheese or low fat cream cheese would be a good way to get some protein in the morning. The egg white idea with a smoothie also works. I always buy free range eggs, so I feel a lot more comfortable about using raw whites that way than if I bought the regular eggs.

SPARKLE--I’m almost finished reading "Soul Survivor". I may read parts of again because it really touched my heart. One quote was so funny and I thought of you when I read it, as I notice that you have a flair for writing.

From the letters I receive, and from stray comments I pick up at parties and book signings, I gather that people have a glamorized image of a writer’s life. These people have never sat and watched a writer staring at a thesaurus for fifteen minutes in search of one word. . . . Most of the time the world we create is far more interesting than the dull reality we live in. . . . I remember working on a short story early one morning. For three hours I strained to develop three-dimensional characters and to purge all clichés from their dialogue. A raw beginner at fiction, I was getting a terrific headache from the effort. Naturally I used the excuse to stop writing and walk across the street to a coffee shop. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that all the people in the coffee shop were two-dimensional characters who talked in clichés! None of them seemed nearly as interesting to me as the people who populated my story. I fled back to the security of the false reality awaiting me in my basement office.

We'll, I think I'll go unpack my bags and get comfy. Have a great evening y'all.

See what happens when I'm not there to root on my Tigers????? Worse yet--One of the seminar leaders yesterday was from ARK! Oh well--I had a bad feeling about this one anyway. Congrats to the UT, UF, and Ole Miss gals! On the bright side my beloved Wolfpack beat Virginia in the ACC! :)

My seminar was good yesterday and I got compliments for the part of it that I led. I met a lot of people who might become potential clients or connect me with potential clients--so it was a good day--but I was exhausted when I got home! Today I went to church and lounged on the counch while the race was on. Miss Belle and I both dozed off once or twice--the sound of those engines is so relaxing...

I used to hate Sunday nights because of all the grading I had to do. I always had papers/exams to grade and there was no such thing as "caught up." Tonight, for some reason, I'm really grateful not to have large stacks of paper sitting around the house. That's the one downside to teaching--you are NEVER finished. If you aren't grading, you're having to prepare for your upcoming classes--and if you aren't doing that you are actually in the classroom. Nights and weekens if you want to relax you are always tortured by the fact that there are papers on the desk that need to be graded!

Someone remind me of this a year from today when we are 10 days out from election day and I am totally NUTS!

I will respond to everyone later--I need to go fix dinner before I let myself get too hungry!

Hi Debbie, Tree, Mel and everyone else ! Thanks for the warm welcome !!! :)

Wow size 6s ??? I can't even imagine ! :) I wonder if that book Eat Yourself Slim is available around here - in Va. BTW to answer one of your questions. :)

Thanks for all the answers to my questions everyone ! And also that website address which I'll check out later.

Oh - you also don't have to worry about spelling Dneees correctly. Plain old Denise will do. :) That's my license plate number from my sports car in 1986 which is on my car today. That was the closest I could come to the correct spelling after dozens of tries ! Guess it's a more common name than I realized ? :)

Hey Tree - I'm wondering if we may have "met" before along time ago while on another diet ? Maybe WWs or Richard Simmons ? There can't be that many Trees around. Right ? :) I usually go by Denise in Va. in case that jogs your memory. :)

Anyway... thanks again for the warm welcomes and great information ! Have a Great evening everyone !!! :) Denise

Meliris - I just did a google.com search for "BMI calculator". This site http://www.halls.md/body-mass-index/bmi.htm actually has something based on your age too. I just found it! That's what I get for complaining that no one takes AGE into the calculation! Doesn't matter I still need to lose. :D So this place says my ideal weight is 114-127lbs. I think the water immersion method is for body fat analysis. They also use calipers to measure that but I don't know how accurate that is.

Dnees- I may have met you on WW website. I cruised that one for a while. That was over a year ago though. Then again, there's a ton of "Tree's" around. That log-in name is always taken, I just got lucky here. :)

Gatorgal - you have me salivating! I'll have to stay away from any low country shrimp boils in Arizona. ;) Of course, any good food is just my type!

Gotta go.
