Yippee skippee! It's the weekend! Although I'm retired, I still look forward to it.
No plans for the weekend except go to Claire's house to do some laundry and have a shower. Washing essentials with hot water from the kettle is just not enough and it IS Saturday bath night! Charlie is supposed to come today with some more stuff to try but I am actually pretty resigned to being waterless until Spring. To dig up the well this time of year would cost over $2K just to get through the frost and down there! I am off to FL in a week and will cope until then. I may have changed my mind by the time I get back. It's not the money as much as the mess!
So....today I am going to do a dump run with recycle stuff since I missed the pick-up on Thursday and will probably do some sewing later. It looks like a fairly decent day is coming up - nice sunrise - so I may poke around in the barn doing some tidying if it's not perishing cold.
What's a happenin' by youse?
02-03-2007, 09:08 AM
:coach: Rise N Shine :flow: !
Good Mornin' Ruth! WATERLESS till SPRING???!!!! :yikes: You're a hardier woman than I. Where in Florida are you going? We just had a bad hurricane hit down that way in Volusha county... :(
Nothing exciting planned.. I have a major project due for school, so I think I'll be glued to my laptop this weekend. :book2: in my comfy clothes and bunny slippers with Lots of cawfeeeeeee! :coffee:
02-03-2007, 10:27 AM
Ruth Yikes! No H2O until Spring? My pipes froze here once, and I was without water for just over a day and felt the need to stay at a friend's house :)
Schatzi Good luck on your school project
Me I have a very busy day today running errands. I wish I would have planned better, though...it's only 9 outside and I have to be waiting on buses all day (I don't have a car). I have a hair and eyebrow appointment @ 10.30, then I need to run and buy makeup @ Ulta, then run to Target. Then come back home and meal plan and grocery shop. I think I might have overfilled my plate so to speak...but I want to watch the SB tomorrow, so it's all got to be done today.
I hopped on the scale this morning and I'm down 1.5 lbs. It's amazing what a few days of drinking water and eating veggies can do! :D
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I've got to get moving!
02-03-2007, 10:32 AM
Ruth You are a better woman than me- I can't imagine being without water. The sun is shining here as well, at it is lovely!! Florida will be a wonderful trip for you! :flow1:
Schatzi Snuggled up with coffee and the laptop sounds lovely, although I am sure you would prefer to not have the project to do. :coffee:
Me- Chilling out this morning for a bit before my mom comes over. We are going to go through the girls clothes, pull out what doesn't fit, organize. Then this afternoon a grocery run and the library. I haven't done so well with my eating the last few days, so I am going to do a better job of meal planning. I seem to do great for a few days, then I blow it.
It seems as though everything is a go on DH's new job. The only thing we are waiting on is the official call from human resources. He hasn't put in his notice as it makes us both very nervous to do that without the true offer. He has been offered the position from the exec chef and signed a letter of intent. BUT it still makes us leary. We can't even skip a paycheck, let alone be unemployed. The new job, plus absolutely no daycare expenses for 3months this summer (a $1,200 expense per month :o ) should get us caught up and it good shape! :spin:
Hope everyone has a super day. Anyone have super plans for the SuperBowl? We are having dinner at my mom's and will probably watch the game there until halftime. Weezle As a Bears fan are you going to party it up??
02-03-2007, 10:33 AM
"When will I see you again?
When will we share precious moments?
Will I have to wait forever?"
I just sang that to Charlie's voicemail. Do you think he'll know it was me?
02-03-2007, 10:33 AM
Anna We posted at the same time! Have a good weekend!
02-03-2007, 10:34 AM
Hi Kiko...we must have been posting @ the same time :D
02-03-2007, 12:28 PM
Good Day Chicks on the Beach...
Wondered in to say 'Hello' and see how everyone's doing?
Since being on the West chicks site I feel I have negleted you sweet gals who were so welcoming to my sis and I...
Ruth, I like your song!!! I would have loved to seen the look on Charlie's face when he received your 'singing' :callme:message!
Kiko, here's praying you get a call very soon concerning your DH's job offer to cinch the job for sure.
annarenee, Congratulations on the loss!:cheer:
Here's to all of you who have already posted and those who will be on later...have a great SB/SB weekend!:dust:
02-03-2007, 12:52 PM
Good morning, chicks! I'm having a very productive Saturday so far. The girls have let me do my thing, and I can't be more thankful.
One of my big goals for the year is to working on ridding my house of clutter. Today's mission is my bedroom. So far, I've sorted through 3 computer boxes and 5 22gallon tubs of clothes. Everything that's too big, old, or just plain ugly is gone. I have 4 big garbage bags to take to Goodwill and 2 to send out with the trash. Now I have to go put everything that I'm keeping away. Then I'll sort and deal with my current laundry issues. The girls are downstairs playing and watching The Fox and The Hound. Should give me a few minutes.
Have a good weekend, everyone!!
02-03-2007, 03:22 PM
I am new to this first week on the South beach, lost 5 lbs in 5 days. But need some ideas, my weakness is something to use for these great dips, besides celery.
02-03-2007, 04:02 PM
Aren't weekends the best? I enjoy every minute, and make sure I do only what I feel like doing. :smug: Right after breakfast, I tagged along with Jake to the Walmart and Tractor Supply, then made him come with me to Wegman's for groceries. Now we're home for the rest of the day.
Amber is coming over later this afternoon with her Girl Scout cookies, and she knows her Grandpop is always a sucker for that! I expect they'll stay for supper, so I'm going to make a couple of pizzas with WW dough. Other than that, I'm just going to be lazy for the rest of the day and curl up with a book and a pot of tea. :)
Ruth ~ I hope by now that Charlie has answered your plea for help! What a nuisance, being without water. :( At least you seem to have a positive outlook. Thank goodness for friends with hot water!
Schatzi ~ How's the big project coming along? You sound all snug and cozy with your coffee and bunny slippers!
Anna ~ I hope you get all your running around done today without freezing to death! We started the day here at 9*, but right now it's warmed up to 27*. :D Ugh!!!
Kiko ~ I"m still keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out well for you guys with this new job. :crossed: It must be very stressful waiting for everything to be finalized. Hang in there, and everything will work out fine in the end. Have fun with your mother today, and enjoy your superbowl get-together tomorrow!
Mamajok ~ It's nice to see you in here, I usually check to see what all you West Coast Chicks have been up to on your own special thread! Enjoy your weekend!
Jet ~ You are really making good progress on your de-cluttering resolution! I have the same resolution, and it sure feels good to be rid of all that extra "junk" in the house. :smug: Now, if I can only keep it that way! ;)
Ok, it's taken me forever to write this post, my DD called to chat while I was in the middle of it! Time to make that tea and chill out for a while!
02-03-2007, 04:36 PM
TisNew, welcome to the Beach!
Check out the Phase I Foodlist in the FAQ Section and go ahead and use any veggies with dips. I like mushrooms, slices of jicama, pepper strips and even cherry tomatoes.
Good work on the 5 in 5!
Still no water, Chickies, but Charlie has been here most of the day. We have decided to dig up the darned well! Richard, another contractor, has gone to get a big machine of some sort! Oy! Can you hear the $$$ draining out of my bank account? I won't have water until Monday, probably, but we are on our way.
I'll be back later to check out posts. Gotta get ready for the Big Dig by moving my car out onto the road.
02-03-2007, 05:54 PM
I've been home for an hour and I'm still freezing!
I got a fab haircut and can't wait to try and style it myself (whoa...that sounding a little to girly to be coming from me!) However, I didn't make it to Target or the grocery store. It's just too cold (The sun is out, but the wind is fierce and it's only about 10* outside). Target can wait until later in the week. But I might have to go back out to the store. Brrrr...
Ruth I'm sorry you have to dig in such bad conditions. Hopefully, it won't take too long to get through the frozen ground
Kiko I'm sure that job for DH will come through :goodvibes:
Jetsetter When can I schedule you to come and de-clutter my closets?!? Maybe we can set something up for late April?? :lol3:
02-03-2007, 05:57 PM
Sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum earlier by mistake. Can you SBD girls offer any advice?
This may be a bit personal, but has anyone here experienced any constipation since starting the Southbeach diet? I'm in Phase II, and have been experiencing this unpleasantness off and on. I'm at a loss as to how it can happen. Right now, I go through about 2 bunches of celery a week, green beans by the pound and bunches of lettuce for salads. For lunch I have salads or a sandwhich on whole wheat bread with tons of lettuce. For dinner, I have a meat and veggies, plus a small salad, and some fruit. Daily snacks are celery or cucumbers with cheese (sticks or wedges), plus TONS of tomatoes. Once in a while I'll have a few nuts as a snack, but for the most part, I stick to cheese sticks with celery or cucumbers. I also drink 8 glasses (not cups) of water a day.
When you eat as many vegetables as I do, there shouldn't be any movement problems. I'm thinking of cutting back on my protein consumption a bit just to adjust the balance and see what happens. But this is way too weird. Any ideas? Sorry to bring up such a personal topic.
02-03-2007, 06:22 PM
Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh! The well is not where the map said it was! Richard dug a huge hole in the lane. Now the guys have decided the map refers to the front corner of the house and they are tearing up that part of the lane! Yes, I'm getting discouraged!
Booklover, not to worry about such a personal concern! We all have the same problems!
Have you tried keeping track of fiber with Fitday? 25 grams of fiber per day is the RDA, I think. I find the only way for me to get this is to have Fiber One cereal and/or legumes every day. I bit of Metamucil helps too.
Sorry I can't comment to everyone. I'm dealing with two men and machines at the moment plus two dogs who are having nervous breakdowns over the noise and commotion! I never did get over to Claire's for a shower and to do a laundry. Maybe before spring!
I just took a picture of Charlie watching Richard, It's getting dark so they are quitting soon. I am tempted to have a Scotch and popcorn supper!
02-03-2007, 07:00 PM
Ruth Oh my..... not good, eh? Here's a big hug for you from all of us! :grouphug:
Cottage Your day sounds lovely! I did a Walmart run myself and came home to take a nap. Megan feel dead asleep in the car because she was so tired and then the big girl had fun while the house was quiet playing with her Barbies. Have fun with your DD tonight. I need to try a WW crust as the crew at my house loves pizza!
Jet You will feel SO much better once you declutter. I tackled that project )along with my mom) over my Christmas break and it was worth every single hour spent. If you have time this weekend can you post that Shrimp Scampi recipe you made a few weeks ago?
Tis :welcome2: to the beach! Just jump right on in and join us on the daily chat. I am taking two dips to my mom's tomorrow and am bringing baby carrots (phase 2), celery, cukes, red and green bell peppers.
Mama Hey you! I don't get over to your thread often, so it is nice to "see" you. :)
Anna Is your new do short or long? That is the one thing I cannot wait for is a good cut and highlight. I tend to just yank it back into a ponytail lately.
Me- Plan to make a pot of soup and the turkey sausage cups to have on hand for the week. I tried to "wing" last week and wound up cheating entirely too much. I need to get myself more solidly planted in the 150's. And then onward! A bowl of chili and a nice big salad for dinner are on my menu. The girls are having leftover pizza, salad, and applesauce.
I am also having a nice glass of wine. It appears there is only one glass left after DH had some last night, so that is great portion control for this girl who loves the grape!
02-03-2007, 07:23 PM
Oh my, Ruth!! Scotch and popcorn sound like a grand dinner after that fiasco. I hope they can find the well without digging up too much more of your yard. Yikes!!
Kiko, I wish this was a short project. But unless I get a couple of good weekends alone or some really good help, it's going to be slow and painful. I'm so ready to get rid of this stuff. Can't believe how much I've collected over the years!! I'll post the scampi recipe in the Phase I entree section. I can't tell you how much I l-o-v-e that dish!! :val1:
02-03-2007, 09:09 PM
Jet Thanks for posting the recipe! Trust me- the ONLY reason I was able to get organized was because I had my mom to help. It also takes a day to day effort to keep organized which as you know is hard when you work fulltime and have little ones. Laundry alone can send me over the edge!!!! :dizzy:
02-03-2007, 09:34 PM
Kiko Well, my new 'do is short to me, but that's because my hair was about halfway down my back before this morning. Now it's about the length yours is in your profile pic...just past my shoulders.
02-03-2007, 09:39 PM
Whew, Amber was really wound up this afternoon! She plumb wore Jake and I out! We had a fun visit, though, and everybody loved the WW pizza. I used turkey pepperoni for the first time ever, and I really liked it, which is surprising since I'm not a fan of pepperoni at all. They just left, now back to peace and quiet again.
Ruth, you must be at your wit's end by now, poor girl! I hope by this time tomorrow all will be back to normal again, and you can put all this behind you and laugh about it. :grouphug: Go and spend the night with Claire, and enjoy a nice long bubblebath and a good night's sleep, why don't you.
02-03-2007, 10:12 PM
annarenee My DH loves the BEARS, so I'll be rooting for them too.
jetsetter I'm a packrat too. My DH was going through a basket of shoes wanting to know what to throw out. "These", he would ask and my reply was, "I don't know if they hurt my feet--I'll have to wear them to find out."
TisNew I like cucumbers and broccoli
Ruth:hug: and prayers--Lord guide them to the well. Amen
A big hello to all. Hope you evening is going well. I had a very busy day. Went to a HelloWorld meeting with my DH, then cheerleading with DD then wrestling with DS then to workout then home to the couch to watch DH sort through the shoes. Afterwards I made a yummy shirmp stir fry with 7 grain rice. Took a minute to plan sunday school lesson. Now I am enjoying a strawberry yogurt smoothie.
02-03-2007, 10:40 PM
Booklover, no worries! Just try to up your servings of beans and you'll have a "Bathroom Celebration" in no time! :D
02-03-2007, 11:44 PM

02-04-2007, 08:09 AM
Good Sunday Morning!
Jake and I are getting ready for our usual Sunday breakfast at Cracker Barrel, then going to pay Mom & Dad a visit. Monica and the girls may come out this afternoon for a while, not sure yet what her plans are. We're not big sports fans, so the game won't be on unless DS comes over and wants to watch.
Jake is ready to go, so I'll be back later!
Have a wonderful day!
02-04-2007, 08:24 AM
The guys finished at 2:10 last night! I cooked them bacon, eggs, home fries and toast after that. What great men! Charlie said there was no way he was quitting. They found the well, hauled up a 45 foot pipe and installed a new foot valve which was letting air and earth into the system. I ran lots of water but it's still not cleaned out perfectly. I don't know whether to wash my tub or let it dry and vacuum it! Never take water for granted!
The Girls slept until seven and have been out into a winter wonderland. Cold but gorgeous! We are skipping Church as I have a lot of personal and house cleaning to do! We'll visit Harry this afternoon and tackle Mount Laundry.
By the way, I nixed the Scotch and popcorn and did the Salsa chicken and salad for myself while the guys ate Long Horn pizza and beer. It's a really simple and yummy recipe!
I'll be back to read all these posts once I get myself together a bit more.
02-04-2007, 01:10 PM
Ahhh yes The POWER of Beans :yoga: I love em! Howdeee Gals! Hope everyone is having a super weekend! (Go Bears!)
Ruth! Well Well well!! Water at last! So wonderful you have such a great network of friends! Yep don't take water or friends for granted!
Cottage: I've never been to a cracker barrel. Maybe I'm glad !
:welcome3: to the boards Tis
annarenee: I use to have long hair too..It's so freeing to have it shoulder length! I love it
Jetsetter: your Scampi dish looks like a MUST TRY... I'll be making it sometime this week!
Kiko: soups and stews --winter comfort foods for me !! I hope you enjoyed your wine... DH and I use to go to a winery and make our own for a few years.. I've got cases of all kinds of reds.. I fear I will have lots of wine vinegar as DH and I open maybe a bottle every other month!
Well my project is about a quarter done... so I got all my morning chores done, and took the girls for their daily walkabout...so now it's time to hit the books !
Tonight at Chez Schatzi's we are having broiled teriyaki Pork Choppys and I think greenbeans stirfried in a mustard /balsamic vinegar sauce.
If yer going to a party ..keep your fingers outta the chip bowl !!!
02-04-2007, 01:34 PM
hmm good weekend for me- Bears are in the superbowl (DA BEARS!!!) and i finally hit the ten pound mark :)
Today is going to be busy but i'm pretty excited for everything! I have my superbowl planned out so i'm not worried- sticking to steamed shrimp and veggies- sort of boring but oooh well :)
off to the library and gym!
02-04-2007, 06:50 PM
Hey, Ruth, I'm so glad they were able to fix your water problem last night! What a wonderful group of friends you have, they must think the world of you to be willing to work into the wee hours of the night and get the job done. Now you can go off on your vacation without worrying about it.
It's been so quiet around here, I'm not sure whether I like it or not. I was able to get a lot of niggles done though. Jake was happy that I finally got around to mending some of his work clothes, did the laundry, and even printed out Weezle's great snack recipes and Jet's Shrimp Scampi. I'm eager to try them all out real soon, probably make the Shrimp Scampi one night this week. It's a little different than the recipe I use, so I'll see which one I like better. Dinner today was just leftovers from yesterday, since there was just the two of us here. Now, I'm just going to curl up and read until bedtime.
02-04-2007, 07:16 PM
Evening, all. It has been a pretty lazy day around here. I haven't gotten nearly as much done as I'd planned. That seems to be a pretty common theme for me on Sundays!! We took our weekly trip to Target this morning. Picked up a potty chair and training panties for the little one...but she won't wear them!! While we're at home, both of the girls prefer to hang out naked most of the time. My one rule is that they have to have panties or a diaper on at the table...because I can't stand to eat with completely naked people!!
Those who are watching the Super Bowl enjoy it. I have no desire, so we'll be sicking to our usual routine of dinner followed by Disney. Tonight is waffles and fruit for the kids; leftover taco bake for me. I'm guessing Cinderella will be the movie of choice. Praying for an early bedtime so I can get some things accomplished.
02-04-2007, 10:38 PM
This is the first time I have gotten to sit today and see what everyone has been up to. We just got home from my mom's where we watched the first half of the SuperBowl. She had a great spread of baked chicken wings, potato skins, mozzarella sticks, crab cakes......... I had made one of Weezle's dips and brought Triscuits and veggies to go with it. I only cheated on one crab cake- it was delish and worth the splurge! DD and I even made brownies today and I didn't taste a lick of the batter. :)
It was a bee-u-ti-ful day here today. My daughter was thrilled to actually play outside. She rode her bike and had great fun, while I did my "homework" for the Bible study I started last week. :sunny:
Ruth I am so happy to hear that your water is fixed. Again, I cannot imagine what we would do around here! I agree with Cottage that you are so blessed to have such great people looking out for you.
Jet I am cracking up at the vision of your naked little girls running around the house! My almost 20 month old is becoming so sassy!!! I have had to utilize timeout much earlier than I ever had to with my older daughter.
Rock WTG on 10 pounds lost! Da Bears arent' doing so hot right now......
Schatzi Hope your dinner was yummy!
Cottage The olive dip was really great- I definitely recommend it. I am looking forward to trying the scampi recipe too. I made "our" favorite soup yesterday-I love that recipe!!
Okay, I am going to get these contacts out and get snuggly on the couch. DH is still at work. They didn't schedule anywhere near enough people tonight and they wound up getting slammed today. He has not been in too good of a mood when I have talked to him today.
