Hi there!

I've read through the posts in this forum and many sufferers of PCOS has said the best/most successful diet for people with PCOS is the Atkins or Low Carb diet.

I know in the Atkins diet you eat a lot of mean and no carbs like potatoes, bread and pasta. Is there a veggie version? Or can anyone suggest how I can incorporate low carb into a veggie diet? I've cut back on bread and pasta and the likes, but how can I make it so that I'm not just eating fruit and veg?!

Any help would be much appreciated! :D

Your best bet with PCOS is focusing on whole foods. Look for whole grains, eat things that have a lot of fiber and stay away from the junk. I eat a lot of vegetarian meals where I eat brown rice, beans and veggies. Do you eat dairy? You can also eat cottage cheese as a protein source which is really good.

If you eat food that has a lot of fiber it will help you have a stable blood sugar level which is why fiber is really important. Also look for good sources of lean protein, depending on your eating restrictions.

Hey Zip,

I don't do the full vegetarin thing anymore, but I do not eat red meat. I also am doing the holisitc put myself first treatment for my PCOS. Yes, I know I'm crazy! :dizzy:

What degree of a vegetarian are you exactly? Obviously if a pesco-octo will have more options than a strict vegan. I would stick with tofu and it's products. Over on this side of the atlantic, I can live on the MorningStar and Boca prodcuts. The tofu chik nuggets are almost as good as the real thing. Worse comes to worse there's always peanut butter!

Thanks for 2 quick and excellent replies!

I didn't know brown rice was ok with a low card diet nelie, I can make some rice dishes now :) Same with wholemeal pasta I'm guessing?

I don't know the types of vegetarian :o (though I should!) I don't eat any meat, but I do eat eggs and milk, dairy foods. Cotage cheese is an excellent idea, that never crossed my mind!

I'm not a vegetarian but I lived that way for a few years when I was younger so I have a bit of experience with it. Still, I don't eat a lot of meat, I just don't like it all that much.
As for the low carb thing....In my experience it's too limiting, especially if you're not going to eat meat. I know I tried it and ending up not meeting nutritional needs as a result. I'm sure it could have been done, but it was too hard for me.
I agree with Nelie about incorporating whole grains instead of refined carbs. I try to every chance I get: Whole grain bread, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, etc. and I'm losing weight! I've also cut out a lot of other junk foods and increased veggies.
