New to this community..but certainly not to PCOS. I was diagnosed with PCOS in '94 and later IR. After ttc for 9 years.. I was blessed with a son via adoption
After that I sort of stopped looking after myself and dealing with the issues surround PCOS and IR.
7 years later, I finally got my self in gear and started working towards taking care of ME.. Just in time to be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2005 at the age of 36.. Following surgery, 6 months of chemo and 7 weeks of radiation...I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I was hospitalized in November of 2005 while doing chemo when all my counts dropped, only to find my blood sugars were not behaving nicely. I was getting insulin in the hosptial and when I was discharged, they suggested I get a monitor and follow up with my family doctor... Thinking it was all the steroids I was on for chemo I mostly ignored that suggestion...(I got the monitor, but didn't take it out of the box for several months) That may or may not have been what brought it about, but the bottom line is, that became my newest diagnosis.
I'm still in treatment for BC..but that ends in February. Only 19 months of visiting the infusion center every 3 weeks.. I'm beyond ready to be finished with that part of this journey.
So here I am...
Dieting with Obstacles is somewhat of an understatement at this point
Life is far too short to waste it being unhealthy and wishing I weren't.. One of the positives of treatment is that I've lost over 40lbs..and kept it off for over a year.. A blessing really..as most of the women I've talked to ended up gaining 20-50lbs during treatment... I worried about that a lot.. I knew I couldn't afford to gain anything.
Currently I'm re-starting WW online, as far as counting points..but also trying to adhere to a low carb/ only natural carb food plan... It's working well enough, but I need to put more effort into MOVING!
(I lost 4lbs over the holidays.. I was happy with that, all things considered) I'm still struggling a little with energy levels and stamina.. working full time and being mom/wife/VP of finance..and whatever other title you want to insert there.
That's more than enough words on a first post.. don't you think?
