Default Geez Louise! Our Calif farmers have been hit hard!

Between those ecoli outbreaks during the past year and now this record breaking cold, our farmers are financially devastated.

However, on the other side, it's going to be devasting for consumers as well. These farmers have had to destroy crops because of the frost. The prices are going to go through the roof until they can bring in produce from other countries. Our salads at home are going to be expensive. I can only imagine how expensive places like Fresh Choice, Sweet Tomatoes, etc are going to be.

Oranges are going to be really expensive. Florida is still recovering from 2 years of storms hitting them. Their citrus industry is going to take years and years to recover. Now this coast is hit hard.

I'm convinced that this is a conspiracy to keep me from eating fruit and salads during my journey into weightloss. No, I don't mean that, it's just hitting hard right now. I don't eat frozen veggies, except peas. I don't eat canned veggies, except tomatoes for my turkey chili. I use our own canned tomatoes for sauces. So, for fresh, I'm going to be shelling it out.

I obviously ate $$ and $$ and $$ of food before. That's how I got this way. I guess I'll be spending it again for the fresh stuff.

I don't eat canned fruit/veggies, ever (ok maybe artichokes). I eat frozen because they are pretty good and maybe even healthier than fresh.

I am from California originally and trust me, others have been paying a lot for fruit and veggies compared to you My grocery bills went way up when I moved from Cali and it was a big shock for me. I am sure that means our grocery bills will be going up as well but you will probably be paying less than those outside of CA still.

Let me tell ya what oranges cost here today...99 cents for one freakin' orange. I love oranges and bought some a week ago but don't get them often because they either look horrible or are too high, like now.

But I feel for the farmers...I saw that on the news and yeppers we will be paying out the nose. But I have noticed in the past few weeks that just about everything has gone up so...if we need it we will buy it no matter the cost.
