GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, there are two of them:

http://members.aol.com/debelli/monday_morning_thought.jpg

REFUSED TO BE DISCOURAGED

There is a route to success that is available to just about everyone. It is persistence. No matter what your level of skill or experience, no matter how knowledgeable you are or aren't, when you continue making the effort for as long as it takes, you'll get where you're determined to go.

Persistence does not require any special talent. There's really nothing to stop you from persisting with one possible exception -- discouragement. But what is discouragement? Does it really need to have any power over your actions. Should you allow it to dictate your future? Does it make any sense for your discouragement about the past to prevent you from going forward toward the goals you desire?

Discouragement has exactly the amount of power you give it. And guess what? You don't need it. It won't bring you anything positive. So go beyond it. Persist in your efforts. Forget about the disappointments. Look resolutely at what's ahead, at all the great things that are possible. Keep going, today, tomorrow and for as long as it takes.

-- Ralph Marston

Good Morning Again:wave:

Got in my walk/jog already, did the usual 4.5 miles then came home and did 12 sit-ups on the board.

Woke up to find the scale way up! It yelled 126.5 at me. Well, after about 15 minutes I guess all that fiber I had consumed over the weekend was ready to evacuate my body ( poor Eli said I was emiting noxious gas all night long:eek: ), I got on the scale after and saw that I had gotten rid of a 1.5lb brick-so back to the norm, but again, still up 4lbs from my low:(

Oye vey, my computer is making a grinding noise! I'm worried about it, I don't have my files backed up on disk, all I care about really is what pictures I have stored on my HD, my favorites and my files! I guess I should at least download AOL 6.0, I think all my files can be accessed from other computers if I do that, but not what's on the HD-any suggestions for this computer illiterate???

I was so happy yesterday (remember, takes little to make me happy). I've borrowed this book from the library for 6 months now (keep renewing) and, though I haven't made anything from it yet, it has wonderful SB LEGAL recipes in it (when sweetened with agave where appropriate). Anyhow, it's an old book, from 1984 and I've been searching on Half.com and Ebay to no avail. Yesterday I did a search on the net and found someone who sells cookbooks who just happened to have it, in MINT CONDITION! Just $5 which includes the shipping-I'm thrilled to finally be able to get my own copy!!!:D

BUSDEB, glad to hear you're feeling better. I know that eating better sure can't hurt, and hopefully, it helped you get better faster. That is so cool that you live on a farm with cows. Being from Miami all my life, there are no farms down here. Are the cows milking cows? No hens? That would be wonderful to have horses and be able to ride whenever you want-I haven't done that since I was a kid! Going out to eat at others homes isn't all that hard, mostly we go to family and there's no secret that I'm on a diet and there's usually something there, but I'm never shy to ask what will be served, or if I can bring my own food. Yesterday I knew what was going to be served and made sure I ate before, just being prepared, I guess.

MELF, I can't believe I never thought about going to the library for internet use, yet I'm at the library all the time and see people using them-that's a great way to keep in touch.

Gotta get ready to take Lauren to school. Have a full morning ahead and then have to go p/u my 4yr old niece at school, sister has a Dr. appt. regarding the 5yr old. Going to take her to lunch, she loves any place that sells chicken fingers, so will take her to CHECKERS today.

I'll check in with you all later. Please remember TOMORROW NIGHT IS CHAT AT 9:15PMEST

Have a great week!

Good morning everyone!

We all have the sickies here:( I think I might have bronchitis!! The boys both are coughing terrible and my 5 year old had an asthma attack during the night.

Went to the movies last night and worried myself sick that I would not be able to resist: Coke,Popcorn and Jujyfruit :( But I did!!!! Ate a huge spinach salad and my small serving of beef stroganoff and some coffee. I was good to go! Breezed right past the concession stand. WOO HOO! That is a big thing for me since I totally love to watch a movie at the theater and munch on popcorn. I only go to the movies twice a year or so :)

I have to admit it is so hard to see all those THIN people eating whatever that want. I have to repeat to myself over and over "thin does not =healthy."

I saw a recipe for sgww biscuits on the side of my flour bag and I am going to try them.Wouldn't it be awesome for us southern girls to get our biscuits??:D

Well gotta run and fix breakfast. Taking the boys to the DR after while.

BYE!!

Good Morning all,:)

Just wanted to check in ....I am heading out to walk this morning. I have already been on my am bus run and went to the DMV for my DL renewal. Oh and I also fueled my mommy van. Some guy was trying to hit on my at the gas pump....must be the new jeans. Shhhhh don't tell my hubby. LOL

Deb........I have not been hit with the going to someone else's house yet but I will not be shy about inquiring about the food. I just tell everyone that my headaches and stuff are better without sugar. They ask did your doctor take you off and I say no I took me off all sugar and refined flour. They are in awe usually.

Liz......hope you all get to feeling better. Great going on the trumphant over the movie theatre pull. I never buy anything there anyway because it is so expensive. We rarely go to the theatre anyway.

Have a good day all.

Debbie :)

WAR EAGLE!!!!!!!

Oh man--what a time to be out of town. To make matters worse, the aunt I was staying with does not get ESPN. Thankfully a cousin invited us over to watch the game---despite the fact that he was warned I was a tad vocal. I'm sure glad that my sugar bust for life book lists gator meat as a feasting food--cause it sure was tasty!:D

Gator--Thanks for the gracious e-mail. I'm glad the parking worked out and you enjoyed your vist before the game. I'm so sorry we didn't get to meet--especially since y'all won't be coming back for a long time.:(

BOB--You're Welcome! I was a great game wasn't it? I was so disappointed when I got back to town yesterday afternoon and they had cleaned up all the toilet paper on Toomer's Corner. I understand that the rain did not dampen the celebration one bit! I'd have been out there if I were in town. How's the old arse doing since you left it at the gym???? My arse is going back there today!

While I was in NC I went to a Fresh Market--I was disappointed that they didn't have any agave nectar. I need to know where that Harry's is in Peechtree City--it's only an hour from here. NASCAR--want to meet me there sometime?

Deb--Dad's birthday was fun--we went out to dinner at a very nice restaurant. I won the week long battle with my mother over getting the bedrooms in the house wired for cable. Our present to him is another TV in the house that can get ESPN (the only time they fight is when he wants to watch a game and Mom doesn't---time for more than one cable outlet in the house!) Family time is so important to me!

It's is good to be back home. The wedding cake didn't even tempt me at my uncle's reception Saturday. We got a SF pie at the Fresh Market that was OK--but still tasted pretty sweet. I'm about the go on the warpath against restaurants that don't offer Whole wheat and Sugar Free options. I went to a Brugers for coffee (staying with folks in their 70s and 80s, I had to go out for my caffeene every morning--and Tragedy--someone had literally driven through the Starbucks down the street). Anyway this company makes every kind under the sun--except whole wheat. Even places that do have whole wheat--always throws honey into it. As if that makes it healthy! We've got some serious public education to do girls!

Lets don't even discuss my eating habits for the past weekend, except to say I was way off target:( I just didn't have the "want to" to stay op. The depression of last week reached all time lows. I did go shopping with my Mom on Saturday, but we shed more than a few tears on the trip. Both of us seem to have reached a breaking point in our grief for the loss of my Dad in May. I also have definate PMS going on which just compounds everything and puts me on a whacky emotional roller coster! I didn't step foot out of my house yesterday except for a quick trip to my Mother's house (2 houses away). Little one was not feeling well and neither was I (allergy season, for sure) so we didn't even make it to church. DH and Justin went but Tyler and I took major meds and snuggled up together trying to fight the sinus attacks.

One good thing for the weekend - WAR EAGLE!!!!!!!!:D

Catlover - I know exactly what you are dealing with, as I just lost my dear Father on May 19th, and sometimes it just all catches up to you at once. If you need someone to talk to, just holler. I have found that talking through things with others who have lost parents helps sometimes. Other times nothing helps. Hope you get back on track soon.

BusDeb - saw your bus avatar - looks good. I have been completely anti-social this weekend, sorry. I'll try to pull out of this fog this week. PMS has gotten to be a real struggle for me. I never got all emotional and such until after my youngest was born. Now it seems that every month the symptoms intensify. Kinda worries me because I had that pap come back abnormal last month...:( I am going back for another one after the new year to see what it shows.

Deb - I'm gonna follow your lead and pump up the fiber. I think my system needs a little kickstart!

Hi to everyone else - no time for more right now.

Well, I survived my mom's 80th bday party! I only had a bite of cake.:dizzy: I did get lots of compliments from people I hadn't seen in a while, including my bro. who was the one who got me started on this WOE. My mom was happy that the whole gang was there, along with lots of family and friends from church.

TV- You are so right about your Dad's death finally catching up with you. My dad died 4 1/2 yrs ago. I did really good till about 5 months after he died then I lost it on Mother's Day of all days. Here I was at church bawling my eyes out. I was OK on Father's Day. Don't understand that. But it does get better. I do occassionally think of something I want to tell him and start for the phone. I just take comfort in the thought that maybe he can see us down here.:)

Besides the big party this weekend, we had our fall festival here in Mt. Vernon. My third grade honors choir performed Sat. am and did a great job. We sang some really crazy songs and then did one call "Song of Peace". We had a few teary eyed moms and dads after that one (including me)

Hope everybody has a great week. I'm trying to get back on track after being really sloppy the last few weeks. I'm really hitting the water (and the bathroom) today.

Hi gals,
We got back from our trip about 8 pm. last night and I had to work this morning. So, this is the first chance I've had to get on the board. And I have just a few minutes. Have to run to the gym in about 5 min.

Our trip to Ga./Auburn was fun, except for the game. The gator didn't have his snack this week, for sure!!! I think the Gators thought they just had to show up to win the game, but they learned that they had to do a little more than that!! Auburn played really well and deserved the win.

One really neat thing they do up there is right before the game. One of their 3 mascots (Plainsmen, War Eagles, and Tigers!!:?: ) is an eagle. And right before the game they let an eagle loose from a cage in the upper decks. He flew around the stadium and then swooped down to the field, where he landed next to his trainer. Very impressive. They also showed a video before the game on a very high definition screen on the score board> It sort of looked like the campus was blowing up with brief shots of eagles and tigers running through the flames. Interesting. I think it was supposed to show big power, or high intensity. Fillise--That video was "different."
Again, the parking was GREAT. Gals, Fillise really gave us great help in enjoying a cute town of Auburn. We even left a little bit of money there in one of their fine stores.

The other thing that impressed me was the high support of the Auburn fans. I notice at many schools that the fans expend their energy rooting AGAINST the Gators, instead of FOR their own team. Often we hear an epithet linked to "Gators". But we heard none of this at Auburn, and they just cheered their team on. Very classy!

So, all in all, we enjoyed our trip. Calloway Gardens was great, as usual. The weather was good, and we got a chance to buy some neat crafts.

Got off the wagon a bit, but am back on today. Need to get to the gym now. Have a trainer I'm supposed to meet in 15 min. Then, on to the TM.
I'll try to write more later when I get a bit more time.

Wow- sounds like we all had lots of challenges this weekend foodwise. I'm happy to report I had a lovely dinner and stayed 100% OP, just ordered extra vegies when the waiter asked how I'd like my potato done, did have 1 extra glass of (legal) red wine, but managed to stare down those crusty little rolls that sat right in front of me. And- DRUM ROLL PLEASE-- RESISTED THE CAKE. I just smiled and ate my grapes. Unfortunately, all that virtue is NOT being justly rewarded and I'm still up 2 pound from 2 weeks ago!

Gator- sound like you had a lovely trip to Auburn despite the outcome on the game. I thought of you when I saw the score flash on ESPN while watching OSU self-destruct against Wisconsin. Climb back on the wagon and have fun at the gym:lol:

Fillise- Bet it feels good to get back home. Sounds like your vacation has been good too and congrats on passing up all that cake.

Busdeb- Those jeans must look really good on you!

TV- Hope everyone feels better soon at your house. You definitely sound like your due for doing something nice for yourself.

Deb- I bet I know who the other "anal" vote on the poll is!!! I'm starting to chart my food today, and I sure don't see anything I can really tweak. Maybe you can help me? I really don't know what I should aim for calorie-wise because of all the excercise I get, but I don't think I'm usually getting more than about 1350-1400. Will try to do it all week then look seriously.

Liz- Good going getting past that movie popcorn. Popcorn had always been one of my downfalls- just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Once I did a diet where I ate almost nothing but popcorn. Wasn't very healthy- but it sure made my tongue happy. I agree- it really frosts me to see all those skinny people snarfing down candy, sodas and crap food and not gaining an ounce! Half of my family is like that and they don't understand what's WRONG with me! Particularly my mother who has to stuff herself with ice cream to keep her weight above 100 (at 5'4") Man, did I get the wrong genes.

Hi to everybody else:wave:
I think I'm just going to drink water and not eat til WIW then maybe I can post a loss for a change!

Thanks for the words of encouragement--I really needed that! Today has been a good day and I'm sure gonna try to keep it that way! I'm going down in about 10 minutes to get my time in on the treadmill. I want to get on there a lot this week--I need it.

Have a great evening. I'll catch ya later!

Hey Y'all!

Finally have a few minutes to tap the keys on the computer:D Had a nice time with my niece-she's so cute. I picked her up and took her out for lunch at Checkers, then to the Dollar Store where she picked out a doll and got one for her older sister-off to the grocery store and then took her to the library until it was time to go get Michael from school-that was the extent of my exciting day!

LIZ, my goodness you DO have a bunch of sickies there! I hope you get better really quick, it's bad enough when the kids are sick, but when Mom's sick, the whole place can go to ****! Congrats on getting past the concession stand at the theater. I thought I could NEVER go to a movie without eating popcorn, but it was much easier than I thought it would be. Keep saying that mantra, THIN DOESN'T=HEALTHY, it can very well be true, and in many cases, is! What movie did you see??

BUSDEB, did you get a good mugshot down on the new DL? Mine sucks, would love to tell them I lost it and get a new one, with the new me on it;) Getting hit on? I bet you loved that! Never be shy to ask about foods and what's being served, or how it's prepared. I've gone to restaurants where they don't include an ingredient on the menu only to find when it gets to me it has something non-SB LEGAL. I just tell them it's not in the ingredients and I can't have it, sorry. My cousin, when she got to college, in order to lose weight, told everyone she met, from day one, she was highly allergic to chocolate and would get deathly ill if she ate it-it wasn't true, but she figured if she told people this she wouldn't give in to it-and it worked, she lost quite a bit of weight and has kept it off for years now. I tell people at restaurants that I'll get sick from something if it's in the food-trust me, they don't want to get sued, so they make sure it's not in it!

FILLISE, glad you were able to enjoy your game-I hear that gator meat is tasty, but I guess that's an acquired taste;) The Fresh Markets wouldn't even know what agave nectar was, I'd think. They do have some great SB LEGAL CHOCOLATES though. My parents just got into Hendersonville last night, they love going to the FM. STARBUCKS, you mean someone REALLY drove through it-like into the store??? That's pretty darned bad! Will relay that to Eli-he's always interested in hearing what's going on in other SB.

TV, sorry to hear you had a rough time of it this past week. I hope your mindset has a 180 turn around and you're able to get back on track. Do you have any idea how much fiber you do get? Not always easy to get it in, but if you like FIBER ONE, 1oz of that does pack in 14 grams of fiber.

MUSIC, glad to hear you had a good time with the family-how were you able to stop at one bite-not me, more like one cake if I even attempted to eat it.

GATOR, glad to see you back.

MEL, glad to hear dinner was a success-please, don't worry about those 2lbs, I'm looking at being 4lbs up without reason-it would be easy if I could say I could attribute it to...but I can't there's no logical reason. I'm almost mid cycle-maybe that's it-who knows? I just know I'll keep on doing what I'm doing and be patient, it always pays off! I haven't voted YET, though I don't cheat, sometimes I overeat, so I guess that's not being OP 100%, maybe down a notch. E-mail me a copy of your intake and I"ll see what I can decipher, also, update me to your current weight and goal weight. I eat about what you do, so with your exercising, maybe it's just not enough, or could be something else-hard to say, but will try to help:)

KAREN, glad to see you checking in. Sounds like you're off to a good start this week, you seem to be up!!:D

Time to scrounge up something for the kids to eat. Eli's not coming home til late, so he's self-sufficient, just have to throw something together for them. I think I'll have some tuna for dinner. I've had enough carbs today, but low on the protein, so will try to make it up with the tuna.

Have a good night!

Well, I’m back, and I can now finish what I wanted to post earlier. I did get in my weight lifting and 30 minutes of the TM. Lately my right foot has started hurting right in the ball of the foot after about 28 minutes of walking. I hope that will subside soon, as I could have walked for another 30 minutes otherwise.

Went to the store to replenish the pantry. We were out of everything. My DH is at class tonight so I had supper alone. I fixed split pea soup, totally non-fat, and with a bit of brown basmati rice in it. Yum. I am also fixing a pot of chinese chicken soup, which is the most intensely chicken flavored soup I’ve ever tasted. I fix it in a special pot called a “hunan” pot, which has a little chimney from the bottom that runs right up the middle. I put all the ingredients in the hunan pot and then set it snugly over a pan of boiling water. The steam from the boiling water goes up the chimney and hits the top of the hunan pot where it condenses and drips down onto the chicken and other ingredients, slowly cooking them and forming a delicious broth. The drawback is that it takes about 6 hours to steam.

Debelli--Regarding Auburn getting a taste of gator meat, they definitely did. I hear it tastes like chicken. :D

Fillise--One other thing that I thought was really funny that I forgot to post. Apparently the eagle’s name is “Tiger.” We just had a big laugh over that. And not only is he “Tiger”, but he is “Tiger the 6th” or the 8th, or some descendant of “Tiger the 1st”, the first eagle. I am wondering if the Tiger’s name is “Eagle.”

Missy--Did you go up to Ky. for the game?

SolShine--What’s up with the dawgs? I am just sad right along with you! I know you are as big a fan for your beloved Maroon and White as I am for my alma mater, so I know it’s hard seeing them have a bad year. Hope things turn around for them soon.
Just don’t let it get you down. The actions of a bunch of 19 and 20 year old guys is no reason to get down in the dumps. I know you already know that. :)
BTW, Jim told me that he didn’t think you got the call re. the job you were hoping for. I am just so frustrated for you, girl. This economy is just making things hard all around. Maybe we can get together and pray about this job situation. Sometimes praying in a group helps.
I got an e-mail from Tree. Did you? You wanna go with me on Sat. to meet her? Send me an e-mail and we can make plans.

Catlover--I actually played a little golf on the course at Calloway. I took a couple of irons and my putter. We were with another couple and I just hit some chips on several holes after we got out on the course. I played one entire par 3, and got 5. I’ll miss seeing you on the board. I hope things will go well for you.

Well, I’ve run out of news. Hi to all I missed. I have to go clean up my kitchen, and I have several loads of clothes to dry and fold. So I’ll have a busy evening ahead of me. Take care, all.

We are definitely holding our hats here in NTX this afternoon! A cold front is coming thru and there are wind gusts of 30 mph and more. And the temps are dropping by as much as 17 degrees. It will be a chilly night for sure.

Deb: It's not too early to start planning for college, especially if the schools are selective in their admissions process. If the plans include a service academy, freshman year isn't too early. The grades need to be up, but you also need to keep in mind community service, sat scores, and leadership qualities. We will be going out to Abilene in the spring. My dsis used to live there and all I can say about it is: it's flat.

Liz & Music & Mel: So glad you had food victories this weekend! It feels good to be able to turn away from those yukky foods, doesn't it?

Gator & BOB: Not too sure about your teams, don't follow SEC except for Arkansas. They beat Lou, tho this weekend and USC was ranked somewhere. And what is WAR EAGLE? is it anything like SOOOOIE!

TV: Hope you start feeling better this week.

Busdeb: Love the bus icon, too. Whenever I have to eat somewhere and am not sure about food ingredients, I just stick with salad and veggies. We have once a month lunches at church for orchestra rehearsals and choir rehearsals and some of us make some really good desserts. But I have been very good and able to stay away from that table. Don't be afraid to speak up for yourself. Just think of those who have food allergies. We are allergic to sugar and white potatoes and pasta!

Music: I assist the choir director of our elementary school with a select choir and we are singing that same song, Song of Peace, for the PTO meeting in three weeks. It is a tear jerker, for sure.

I've worked on this for about two hours now, cooked supper, ate and went to the grocery store to buy sugar cubes. Funny thing: I came back with a trunk full of sacks.;) Now I need to get back on that exercise bike.

Hi!

Thought I'd get in one last post before I hit the hay tonight. Eli's not home yet, thought I'd climb into bed with a book that I'm readying by Dr. Bob Arnot.

Did excellent on my eating today, again, I journaled everything that went in my mouth for the entire day and really stayed in line, only went over my carbs by a few grams, not bad at all!:D Hoping the scale will reflect a loss from all this tomorrow-crossing fingers, toes, eyes, etc!

GATOR, you cook like that all the time?!? I'm ready to send my kids to your house, they're always complaining I don't have anything to eat in ours. They sure wouldn't get bored with meals like you cook, that's for sure!!!! My feet have mysteriously started to bother me, but as mysteriously as the pain comes, it goes. I'm just batteling blisters breaking in my new sneaks now.

BOB, when are you going to post a picture of the SKEETSTER? I'll give you a buzz sometime tomorrow-not sure what my plans will be, no kids to pick up from school, no Eli to be off with-I'M LOST!!!! Wish you were closer, would of been a good day to run around!!!

LIZERY, they put kids on steroids for congestion? Guess I haven't the medical background to understand that one! Hope he gets better really quick. So, TRAINING DAY was good???

JRED, I heard it was going to be in the 30's there tomorrow! Would you PLEASE send me some cooler air? We supposedly are suppose to have a cold front come through, but I haven't seen hide nor hair of the darned thing, it was so hot at 7am this morning here-terrible! Michael wants to be a Dr., (pediatric surgery), he's never changed his mind since he was 2yrs old. His scores are good, he's in a magnet school in the IB PROGRAM, all his classes are AP-he's a pretty smart kid (gets that from my side of the family). I think next year we'll start looking and narrowing the choices down, this is too early for me to think about these things. He does have to start focusing on his CS hours though, I have to remind him about that. I'm hoping he'll volunteer for his Pediatrician, which he's done in the past, that or go to the hospital-good experience considering what he wants to get in to doing. I hope your daughter gets into the college of her choice!

Okay, I'm outta here for the night. I'll check in tomorrow morning wth you all.

NITE!

Hello everybody!

Ok for Motivational Monday...
I took a course called Eating Disorders 101 in college one semester. It was an accelerated weekend course, I needed the credits, and the other courses offered were boring. :D The instructors (1 recovering bulimic, 1 recovering anorexic) were counselors with their own clinic.
One day the instructors asked each person to introduce themselves: name, why they took the course, and something nice that they liked about themselves. Now a lot of the students had some weight problem or another (at the time, I wasn't one of them). There were a lot of people that would start out with the basics, then say something negative about their weight. Each time the instructor said, I need you to rephrase that, and it has to be a positive statement".

For example, a lady said, "My name is ..., I took this course so I could learn why I can't lose weight.....
The instructor stopped her.
She tried again, "My name is ..., I'm taking this class so I can lose weight, and feel good about myself..."
The instructor stopped her.
The third time she said, "My name is ... I know that losing weight will make me healthy. This course is one that I need to get a counseling degree. My goal is to help others as a counselor for eating disorders."
The instructor said "Now, say something nice about yourself"
There was a pretty long pause, and then she said "I'm really good with people."
It's so sad, that we are our own worst critics! That day is class was an eye-opener for me. So, tell me something that you like about yourselves!

Sermon over, back to chat mode

I finally went back to work today. It was a really bad day! It was like Murphy (of Murphy's Law) was standing right behind me all day! Oh well, at least I wasn't going stir crazy like I did at home. Still under some GI stress, and back pain, but one can only miss so much work.

I feel weird posting on the SB board, as I feel like I've been doing the Starvation Diet. I've been diligently logging in my foods on fitday.com( to get into the habit), but I can't seem to eat more than 800 calories. This is not me!! I know that is SO bad, but food is not my friend right now. The only thing I can manage without tummy turmoil is eggs--I am so not an EGG person. Ok, I'm an embryologist, so in that aspect, I'm an egg person (and sperm too) :D I'm losing weight but not healthily. :(

I am so excited! I found Whole Wheat fillo sheets by The Fillo Factory! It has to thaw overnight, but I will be making a version of Spanakopita tomorrow. That's layered fillo sheets with a spinach-ricotta filling in between.

GatorGal, thanks for the email. My DH forgot the camera again! I didn't know if Solshine could meet up with us on Sat, so I just emailed you.

Solshine- come join us if you can! :)

Susan- so the person who rammed into Starbucks thought he was in the Expresso Lane?! Sorry, I had to say it!

Meliris- I know what you mean about having thin family. All of my Mom's relatives are Taiwanese. We went there 2 years ago. Here I am, the huge one, amongst 30 super-thin relatives of all ages. It was very depressing. :(

Morning Ladies!!!

Well, weighed yesterday so a total loss of offically 1 pound after the week, of course, my TOM came saturday so that could have had some effect on it, but I'll take the pound! one less than I started with:) Yesterday was hectic here at work and had a Mary Kay meeting last night so did not get to check in!

Fillis - Would love to meet you at Harry's If you are coming from Auburn, stay on 85N to the Newnan Shannodah Exit. I can email you directions. It's not hard to find.

Well the race was rained out so did not get to watch it:( they ran it yesterday though and I think my fella came in 4th which is great! Seeing how short track racing is not his speciality! Getting excited about going to Talledega in 2 weeks! That will be a great one!! I'll wave to ya'll from the top of the back streatch stands!! I'm the georgeous gal in the #18 shirt!

Gotta get back to work! Take care!!

OKAY......WHO'S BEEN SNEAKING CAT FOOD INTO MY DAWGS' BOWLS?????!!?!?!?!?!

This is NOT FUNNY, people!! I am NOT amused! Vince, on the other hand, is not sure how to handle the heartbreaking loss to Arkansas on Saturday. He was just getting used to the fact that USC actually has a good team. (I don't think he fully understood/believed that last year)

I've decided to contact some temp agencies to see about getting some work while I'm still looking for that permanent career position. It will give us more income than unemployment compensation gives - give me some contact with the outside world - and possibly some good contacts at companies that might actually have positions open or coming open that I would qualify for.

Yesterday I went out to an appointment and gave Meister a kiss before I left. He asked me if I was planning to chew some gum on the way down there. I hadn't planned on it. Turned out that even though I had brushed my teeth AND gargled with Listerine -- I still had tabuleh breath! THANKS, DEBBIE, FOR GETTING ME HOOKED ON ALL THIS ME FOOD!!!! I even had falafels for lunch the other day, but Meister had eaten the rest of the tahini earlier so I didn't get to make the sauce to go with it. Oh well.

GATORGAL - Sorry, but I always pull for the underdog and, as a result, NEVER pull for the Gators. Don't worry, though. Vince pulls for them enough for 2 people, I think. :) I didn't hear from Tree, but would LOVE to join y'all if it doesn't conflict with my prior commitments. I'll e-mail you for the details. We could cruise down there together if I can go. I've been doing my weights every other day at FC and walking in the neighborhood on the other days.

FILLISE - WHOO HOO!!!!! HAPPY DANCE IN AUBURN!!!

I've got to run. Have a great day everyone!!!

Gosh--what a beautiful morning! Fall is not usually one of my favorite times of the year. I'm usually so miserable with allergies that I can't enjoy it. But this fall is gorgeous! The weather has been so wonderful--and it is getting cool again. I hung my autumn leaves wind chimes on the front porch this morning. And for the second straight year--my allergies have not been a factor. I think getting the sugar out of my system is the key!

Sol--we are still doing the happy dance in Auburn. WoooHooo! This week is Homecoming so there is a very festive mood in town!

Nascar--I'll email you and maybe we can arrange to meet! The nice thing about working at home is that I could have the race on. My boys finished 2nd and 9th. But my little Jeffy-poo really had a good points day.

Tree--there was an article in the Sunday paper that said the accident was not alchol related. The writer couldn't resist speculation that the driver was all hopped up on too much espresso! HA!

Liz--I hope everyone is on the way to recovery at your house. Having everyone sick is no fun! But congrats on the popcorn!

Gator--Yes the names confuse everyone. ESPN loves to call Auburn the "war eagles." Makes everyone in Auburn mad! We are the tigers. Our battle cry is "WAR Eagle!" Our mascot is an eagle named "tiger." And the tiger is named Aubie. Everyone got that? It is really cool when Tiger flies over the stadium before the game. At the first game after Sept. 11, a photographer got her as she flew in front of the American flag. It is an awesome picture. I'll see if I can find a link to it.

Deb--see if Eli has heard anything about the drive-thru in Greensboro. Will let you know how the Harry's trip turns out!

I hope everyone has a good day!

Hello and good morning to all:wave:

I hope everyone is having a good day. This weather is beautiful here Fillise. I enjoyed watching the leaves fall this morning as I drove my morning route. The trees are all becoming such beautiful colors too. I love fall. I guess everyone can tell I am feeling so much better today. Glad to be back to my old self.

TV.......I am sorry you are having such a bad time lately.....I hope and pray that things will turn around for you soon. If I can help even just to talk please don't hesitate to email me. :)

Deb........I may miss chat tonight ....it is girls night out....so I will be out kicking up my heels in my new jeans. You all enjoy it for me ok.

Need to run......have a wonderful day all.

Good Tuesday Morning!

Have a few minutes to post, not sure where I am going or what I am doing, but heck if I'm going to stay home all day when I have the day to myself!

Got in my walk this morning, did my 4.5 miles but only walking, no jogs, still too hot here, even at 7am I'm sweating! Eagerly awaiting this mysterious cold front that's suppose to come!

Scales the same, 4 days in a row I've stayed the same. Mid-cycle for me tomorrow, so hoping after that the scale will go down-of course, I'd love for it to go down for WIW tomorrow, but anything is better than it going up.

TONIGHT IS CHAT NIGHT AT 9:15PM EST I have open house for Michael's school tonight, but it starts at 7pm and surely I should be home way before chat time:D

Eli leaves for Orlando at 5am tomorrow and returns Thursday night-they've packed a lot of stuff into those 2 days for them. Hope he gets some awards!!

TREE, if you make you fitday journal public, I'd be happy to see where you can increase your calories and whatever else you may need to increase. You're job sounds interesting, how long have you been an embryologist? I'd love to have your recipe for Spanikopita-I have those same phyllo sheets in my freezer and haven't made a thing with them-let me know how it comes out if you remember, please.

NASCAR, CONGRATS on the pound loss. For me, when I get TOM, I can gain 4-5 pounds usually! Most likely, you lost more. Okay, so you're going to Talledega? Why not take a big sign that says HI SB GALS!!!! Not that I could miss the gorgeous gal in the #18 shirt, but it would be nice to see our group name on TV, and a lot easier to find you faster;)

SOL, LOL! At least when we finally meet I don't have to worry about having garlic breath with you and Vince! Hey, good food comes with a price my dear!! We eat so much garlic in our house, I wonder if we sometimes reak of it like the Indian people do with curry! Actually, I'm surprised the taboulli gave you bad breath, think of it, it has parsley-that's suppose to freshen your breath. I had falafel for breakfast-I definitely have some garlic breath now!!!

FILLISE, will mention to Eli about the new drive-thru STARBUCKS in Greensboro. You're so lucky to get to go to Harry's! I haven't been in years-they have wonderful produce, great bakery items-heck, it's ALL good there!!!

BUSDEB, will miss you at chat, but more important to go out and have a good time, and show off the new bod in those jeans! HAVE FUN!!!

I'll check in with you all later today!!!

Please remember, TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!!! I wish you all luck with the metal monster tomorrow!!

Here's an article I found regarding AGAVE that I thought would be good to post for TUESDAY TIPS

The Awesome Agave
by Lynn Stephens

Agave nectar or syrup is a terrific sweetener if you are watching the glycemic value of your foods. Want to know how to use this natural form of fructose? Here is some helpful information!

The agave (uh-gah-vay) plant has long been cultivated in hilly, semi-arid soils of Mexico. Its fleshy leaves cover the pineapple-shaped heart of the plant, which contains a sweet sticky juice. Ancient Mexicans considered the plant to be sacred. They believed the liquid from this plant purified the body and soul. When the Spaniards arrived, they took the juice from the agave and fermented it, leading to the drink we now call tequila.

But there is a more interesting use for this historic plant. Agave syrup (or nectar) is about 90% fructose. Only recently has it come in use as a sweetener. It has a low glycemic level and is a delicious and safe alternative to table sugar. Unlike the crystalline form of fructose, which is refined primarily from corn, agave syrup is fructose in its natural form. This nectar does not contain processing chemicals. Even better, because fructose is sweeter than table sugar, less is needed in your recipes. It can be most useful for people who are diabetic, have insulin resistance (Syndrome X), or are simply watching their carbohydrate intake.

Fructose has a low glycemic value. However, according to some experts, if fructose is consumed after eating a large meal that overly raises the blood sugar or with high glycemic foods, it no longer has a low glycemic value. Strangely enough, it will take on the value of the higher glycemic food. So exercise restraint, even with this wonderful sweetener. It is a good policy to eat fructose-based desserts on an empty stomach, in between meals, or with other low-glycemic foods. Use it for an occasional treat or for a light touch of sweetness in your dishes.

FYI

This sweetener is sometimes called “nectar” and sometimes called “syrup”. It is the same food.

The lighter syrup has a more neutral flavor.

In recipes, use about 25% less of this nectar than you would use of table sugar. ¾ cup of agave nectar should equal 1 cup of table sugar. For most recipes this rule works well.

When substituting this sweetener in recipes, reduce your liquid slightly, sometimes as much as 1/3 less.

Reduce your oven temperature by 25 degrees.

Agave nectar can be combined with Splenda to counter Splenda’s aftertaste.

The glycemic index of agave nectar is low.

As a food exchange, a one-teaspoon serving of agave nectar equals a free food. Two servings or two teaspoons equals ½ carbohydrate exchange.

Good morning everyone. I got sent home from work early because we are installing new computer cables everywhere, so I have the rest of the day for myself.

As everyone else has said, what a beautiful fall morning! The leaves are gorgeous- except the ones headed for my lawn, and the sun is shining. It was 43 degrees when I walked, so definitley long spandex weather, but the jacket was off by the time I got home. No running (poor dog!) cause my knees are killing me, but got in 3.5 fast miles walking. Then hit the iron after I came home from work. I decided if I can't run marathons or even limp them, I'm going to switch from "toning" with weights to try heaving the really heavy stuff. So I've been slowly adding on more metal and new exercises. Just have to be really careful, since last time I tried this I tore my rotator cuff through really uninformed workouts.

For anybody currently working with weights at any level, thinking about it, or just wants to look at a really good site, here's my Tuesday Tip:
take a look at the site www.stumptuous.com. It's put together by a young woman named Krista who is literate, full of good information about health, nutrition, proper form for exercises, myths, and her transformation from the kid who hid in gym class to an iron pumping diva. She's also really funny. Check out her page on "why I don't look like a fitness model".

Have a good day everybody. I'm off to the library and a new HF store to try to find agave nectar.

Good morning - almost afternoon!

I'm feeling a little more at myself today although TOM hasn't hit the front door yet :?: Probably in the calm before the storm right now!

We have a scout pack meeting tonight so I'm not sure if I'll make chat or not. Our computer at home has been a little quirky lately too... I worked on it last night but not sure if I have all the bugs ran out or not. Thankfully, I work in the IT dept at work so I have plenty of people to help me figure it out!

The good news is that I got my 64 oz of water in yesterday and also some exercise! I did the stepper, ab doer and some small weights! :o WOW - It is about time I got motivated!

Bob - nope, I missed that show! Sounds like it was really good!

Deb - I've not tried fiber one, but I think I saw it once - Isn't that the one that looks like little sticks? I have some uncle sams, I'll have to check out the fiber on it!

BusDeb - thanks for the nice words! Some days I tend to whine too much. I'm trying to break out of that mode today!

Gotta go to lunch -

Hi all! Sorry I've been AWOL.

Yesterday was not a good day. Had to cancel hursing home for tests at hospital. Tests did not go as planned. EKG was abnormal, something to do with left atrial, I don't know! Tech said somethings going on, will know more when cardiologist reads it. I'll live.

The nerve conduction test should only take about 1/2 hour, I was there for 1 hour 10 minutes! Tech could not get a reading. Kept apologizing for zapping me w/ taser but I hardly felt it. She finally succeeded. The place that shocked me the most was behind the knee on right leg. She said "I got it there!" I told her she should have!

I really didn't feel too great yesterday and wound up with diarhea and went to bed for awhile, just felt weak. Today I have no energy and am going to lay down when I finish this.

Talked with Thunder this morning, we talked so much about food we were getting hungry and had to change the subject! Busdeb, sorry you couldn't join us.

The weather is beautiful, Thunder says it's cold! I say it's brisk!

Leaves don't change into beautiful colors here Mel. They just get muddy looking. I wish I was in the Poconos where everything would be in glorious living color!

Must sign off, just wanted you to know I'm still around. Hope to talk tonight. Take care. sef

All I seem to do is gripe! I am not a griper! I'm not! I'm not! Just a little down today. Sorry!!!

Just a quickie, have to run to Eckerds before going to the Open House at Michael's school.

MEL-did you find the agave nectar/syrup? PLEASE send down some of that cool weather-it's still too darned hot down here. Glad to hear you got a bit of unexpected time off today:D

TV, sounds like you were EXERCISE WOMAN today!:) Good for you!! Will miss you at chat, but hoping you'll get back in time. Fiber One, to me looks like bunny pellets! Doesn't taste too bad. I didn't eat the US because of the fat and carbs in it, plus FO has more fiber I believe.

SEF, oye, you've got me worried about you!!! When will you hear from the cardiologist?? PLEASE make sure you let us know what he says, and would you PLEASE take it a bit easy until you do hear from him!?! {{{HUGS}}} for you!!!!

Okay, must run, like I said, I should be home in time for chat-worst case senario is if Michael needs the computer for important homework, but usually he knows this is my time on the computer and will at least let me come on and let you all know if this is the case. Hi everyone :)

Everyone is talking about what a beautiful day they've had and up here we have had nothing but rain for the last couple of days. Sunday I was out in the rain planting tulip bulbs - well my ds was digging and putting the bulbs in while I was supervising and handing him the bulbs. Wasn't a very good day to be out there but there's no time during the week and next weekend I will be working so wouldn't be around to supervise

Was out with a friend on Sunday to a movie and to dinner. We went to Outback and had a super meal. I had a steak, salad, veggies, mushrooms and a small pumpernickel bun (at least it looked like pumpernickel but probably wasn't the real thing). I was able to resist the baked potato and fries, although it took some willpower :D

I've been trying to stay op and keep my starchy carbs low. I've just started to-day entering everything on FitDay. So we'll see if this makes any difference. I've been really careful this week but haven't had any loss yet. We'll see what tomorrow morning brings.

Deb - You haven't heard of English trifle? The way I make it is with sponge cake on the bottom, sprinkle on some sherry, add a can of mixed fruit then jello and when that is set top with hot custard and leave to set. There's various ways of making it, some use lots of cream or have a cream topping but this is the way my family likes it.

JMuir - That's a beautiful wedding picture.

Sef - Sorry to hear you are not feeling so well. Let's know how things are after you have seen the cardiologist. Will be thinking about you. Just take it easy.

I'm so behind with posting and not able to respond to everyone - too much catching up to-do as I haven't posted for about five days. So I'll make this a quickie and get it posted before anything derails me.

I wish everyone luck for WIW.

Bye for now.

Hey gals - I'm here for my every other week post!:D

Unfortunately I don't have much time to read posts! AND - I don't know what the deal is but I'm having so much trouble loading pages. I remember that the last time I posted something about that one of you said that you were also having trouble. Is it my server - it shouldn't be my computer - it's brand new! How many of you have that trouble? So, if any of my SEC buds wrote to me - I didn't see it! Sorry!

BOB: I went to Saturday's posts and when half of the page loaded - I got to see your message! Well, as you know - the game wasn't the blowout that we expected so the fans from KY all stayed around til the end. We were lucky to pull that one off with 13 seconds left in the game. It was really exciting - I actually looked at my husband with about 2 minutes left in the game and I told him that I felt like I was gonna vomit! I really did feel that way! I don't think it was the drinks either! Just nerves! But the Tigers pulled it out by the skin of their butts! I gotta tell ya - we don't have the team we thought we would have this year. :(

GATOR: What's this - you can go to Auburn but you can't come to DEATH VALLEY? I'm so sad! What a game huh? We couldn't believe that Florida was losing! Just before we left for the stadium, we had met some older men in our hotel bar that were Auburn fans. Well, when we got back after the game, y'alls game was still on and it was 20 - 13 and they were all nuts. They were soooo happy when that guy kicked that field goal! He stood up and yelled "F&^$*^ING RIGHT!" It was hilarious! Why is it that everyone hates Spurrier? People will out right say - I like Florida but I hate the coach! Everyone wanted him to throw down his visor at the end - I think they would have cheered. Like I tell people - I don't know the man, people think he's an *** but he sure can win football games - he's good! HAHA! Oh well, sorry about the loss - y'all are still the best!

Well, everyone - I'll try to check back tomorrow. I tutor 2 kids tomorrow night so I'll see how it goes and how tired I am! Just know that I love you all!

Hi ALL!!

Been a busy few days. Haven't really read the board, but did notice a couple of things.

Sef Hope everything turns out ok. Sorry to hear the EKG was abnormal. Hopefully it's not too much that the doc can't get it straightened up for you.

BOB I would be furious at that painter too. By all means, check with you home owner's policy. It may be covered. I hope so. If not, I feel that he should make it good.

UPDATE ON MOM
I talked with my sister tonight & she told me that there has been some improvement with the situation with Mom. First of all, Mom talked with the DON at the NH yesterday & admitted that she has been depressed & afraid since our nation has declared WAR. She knows she is in the right place, but because of her fear, she has wanted to leave & be with family. She said she was needed at the NH because she serves coffee in the mornings to several of the residents that cannot get it themselves, so if she would leave, she'd be missed. ;) My sister brought her to the doc this morning & he had a good talk with her & put her on anti-depressants to help her out with this fear & all the crying she has been doing. He asked Mom if she had been reading her Bible & she stated she had not been since the WAR broke out, so he gave her a reading assignment :) He has always been so good with Mom & takes the time to talk with her about different issues, so this didn't surprise me. What did was that she asked my sister if she thought my brother would understand if she stays at the NH because she just can't leave. Whey! What a change from last week when she was insisting on leaving. What a relief also. This will make it easier for me to leave at the end of the week without worrying about her so much.

Thanks for all of you being here & listening to all of this. Or maybe no one is listening, but it helps to get it out my chest.

Well, got to go. Another 12 hr shift tomorrow. Sorry I missed chat tonight. See ya!

Tuesday Tips

The goal is to create the illusion of slimness, by lengthening the body line, and drawing the attention to positive attributes with color and accessories. As a petite person (height-wise) I am all for lengthening the body!

Wear monochromatic clothes (all one color). They lengthen the body line.
Dark colors tend to make one slimmer (that's why black is so popular).
Wear clothes that fit. Baggy clothes make you appear bigger. Too tight clothes accentuate bulk.
Wear vertical stripes. They lengthen the body.
Wear jackets that fall below the hips. They lengthen the body line, and draw attention away from your middle.
Stand up straight. It can add an inch to your height.-- A longtime friend told me that after I had gained weight, I tended to hunch my shoulders. :(
Wear high heels. Adding to your height balances your width -- I personally don't advocate this piece of advice.
Use the Squint Trick while looking in the mirror to check that your image creates a long, thin body line, unbroken by horizontals.
Be wary of horizontal stripes, they tend to add girth. Use these sparingly. The smaller the stripes, the less width is added.
Don't over-accessorize. There should be no more than 5 accessories on your body (anything that draws the eye). Count jewelry, big shoulder pads, large buttons on your clothing, funky or colorful accessories (scarves, shoes, or handbags), colorful lipstick, nail polish.... This enables one to present a polished, uncluttered look.

For large-busted women who wish to minimize their bust (some don't :D)
Wear v-necks, they draw the eye down, lengthening the body line. Avoid crew or boat necks, the draw the eye across, increasing body width. The same goes for double breasted jackets. Single-breasted jackets are slimming.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what brands have carry non-sugar cured ham, chicken, or turkey? I cruised through the meat aisle, and could only find "sugar-cured "or "dextrose was in the list of ingredients used in the curing". Isn't dextrose a sugar (the "-ose" usu means sugar)? Isn't that a no-no?

Melf - it sounds like your Mom has wonderful doctor. There needs to be more of those out there. I hope she starts feeling better. I wonder how many people have STARTED going to church/reading the bible since Sept 11th.

BOB- your painter should have some sort of damage insurance through his company. You may just put a call in to someone in a managerial/supervisory position, and/or start talking about the better business bureau. Hope you get this resolved.

Sef- hope you feel better soon. Look at the bright side of trees not changing colors-- you have trees! I'm surrounded by cactus and bushes! Ok, it's not that bad. We do have trees, but they never look as good as those in moist, wet climates. :)

TV- re: PMS symptoms, I know someone who swears by B vitamins. She doesn't need to do them now, so she couldn't remember which B vitamins. I'm sure you can find it on Prevention.com if you do a search. Just be careful, one of the B vitamins (thiamine?) can cause an allergic like reaction.

Debelli- go to http://www.sfc.ucdavis.edu/pubs/brochures/pricklypear.html. It's a little long, but near the end is some neat info. You've been eating the fruit of the prickly pear. In the Mexican section of the grocery store, you can find jarred diced prickly pear (nopalitos), or sometimes they have fresh ones in the gourmet section of the produce aisles. I've noticed the pads in the stores are very green, and very thin. These are new growth. The pads make up most of the cactus. You have the stem/stalk, and then branching pads. Each pad can bud off new pads. They can become humongous barriers, if not kept in check. I found a site for Prickly Pear Puree, but I can't tell if they add sugar to it or not.

Re: the fitday log, I can tell that I have too many carbs! I'm trying to stick to 40carb/30fat/30protein likeSB says. Now, that I can see it daily, I can work on improving it. My problem is that I can't stomach much right now. It's getting better though. For a couple of days, I was just doing soup and juices (lots of carbs there!) per the doc's advice. Let's see what happens when I can eat normally again. :)

I tried the Spanakopita recipe I had, not too good. My DSis has one that I'll ask her to email me, then I'll pass it on to you. That one is good. :D

We had a lunch meeting at work today. They brought in food from the Olive Garden, and TIRAMISU for dessert, my Fav! I almost gave in, but I resisted. I must say a troubled stomach keeps temptation away! They make very good Tiramisu.

Well, can't believe I got here and actually had time to read all the posts. I'm doing pretty good with the eating this week. Just have to get motivated to exercise. At least I have my swimming classes on Wednesday nights.

Maintained this week, but I am down 2 inches from when I measured 2 weeks ago.

Debelli Are ya gonna share the name of the book you got? I love cookbooks. Wish I could box up and send you some of our cold weather. The wind is really blowing out there!

Lizery I hope you and your family are well soon. Good for you to resist all the temptations at the movies.

BusDeb WTG with the new jeans. Don't worry, we won't tell you DH;)

Musicteach Congrats on surviving the birthday party. Keep up the good work!

GatorGal Glad you enjoyed your trip. Your soups sound wonderful.

Meliris Good for you staying OP at the restaurant. don't give up--those 2 lbs will come off. How nice to have time off work so you can have some "you" time.

Jred Cold up here too! And rainy--Yuck! Frost killed my impatiens a couple of weeks ago.

Tree The spanakopita sounded yummy. Too bad your recipe didn't turn out so well. I'll have to try to find whole wheat filo here. Good for you to resist the tiramisu (hey that rhymes!)

Nascar Girl Congrats on the 1 lb down

Solshine Good Luck on the job front. I hope you get something permanant soon.

TV Glad your getting motivated. Can you send some motivation my way??

Sef Sorry you're not feeling well. Take care of yourself. Let us know what the doc says.

BOB How awful about your bed!!!! Sorry, I'm not into football. But your enthusiastic posts make me laugh.

Rosalie How many bulbs did you plant? You're a brave person to be out in the yucky weather. I wanted to plant bulbs, but I'm using the excuse that I'm going to overhaul the gardens in the spring, not to. Way to go at the Outback!

Melf Glad to hear your mother is doing much this week. You can come here to get stuff off your chest anytime!

Rhoo Don't despair! You'll get rid of those couple of pounds in no time.

A BIG HELLO to anyone I've missed.

I'm glad I got to say a little something to most of you. I've been finding it difficult to read all the posts, let alone trying to respond to them all. But just reading everything helps me. THANKS everyone.

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone!

Got in my 4.5 miles, barely! I was going to take the day off, then decided to do 3.5 miles since I was tired after waking up when Eli was leaving at 4:45am:eek:. Decided to do the whole 4.5 miles, but did the bare minimum and didn't push myself, did it in 55 minutes, no great time.

Want to thank those of you who joined chat last night, sorry I had to exit early, but I know you understand about the homework coming first.:)

Okay, so it's WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY I hope you all faired better than I. I'm smack dab in mid-cycle, so I'm taking my staying the same from this event. I can see from past months that usually I'll have a drop on the scale the week after-at least I better! I've been stuck here at the same weight for 5 days now! Can't complain really, just glad I didn't go up! I know the scale will drop sometime soon anyhow, I haven't changed a thing in my eating-I guess the milk/dairy really didn't affect me on the scale-looking forward to drinking one of my "shakes" this morning! I haven't had one in weeks and really miss it.

Not much going on down here, I've already stripped the bed, rotated the mattress (can't remember when I did that last-YEARS) going to make the bed up (I love a just-made bed, sprayed with linen spray to make it smell good) and may tackle the overload of magazines I have sitting here today.

May be getting me hair done on Monday. Was talking to Vera last night (that's who I carpool with for Michael) and she told me the guy she uses is good and on his days off from the salon he works at (which is very well known in Miami), he does it out of his house-so she called him and he said he'd do my hair-I like hers, so lets hope. I'm taking too pages from magazines that I like to see if he thinks he can do this to my hair, or should I say, if this hair-do would even look good on my face. I'll let you know what happens!

LIZ, thanks for the steroid explanation. Hey, keep track of your eating, don't get down too low in calories, it's counter productive!

BOB, oh my goodness, you must of blasted through the roof! How in the heck did he break your bed??? And the leg? If anything I'd think it would be one of the posts-the leg though? What did he say? I can't believe he went on his own and drove a nail through it afterwards. If his licensed, his insurance, I would hope, would take care of this-but how are you going to take care of it in a way it would be fixed properly? Oh my gosh-I can see the steam coming out from your head all the way down here!!!!

ROSALI, tulips? My Grandmother use to have them outside her home in Rochster-they are so pretty! I envy you to be able to grow them!!! Sounds like you had a good meal at OUTBACK, you know how I like that place. Do they not have sweet potatoes at that one-some do, some don't, here they do-wish they all would! Nope, never heard nor had English Trifle-sounds interesting from your description though.

FRUIT, glad to see you checking in:)

MELF, so glad to hear your Mom is doing better-sounds like her physician is very caring as well. Trust me, we all listen to each other, good, bad or ugly!! Good going on the scale, that's come back down nicely!

TREE, thanks for those tips-I'm all for trying to look slimmer, and I LOVE black! My problem, I wear baggy shirts, never anything too tight, nothing fitted-tends to lay on my fat too much. I wish someone would make pants for us shorties in petitie short. I laugh at the petite sizes in the stores made for women 5'4" and under-why they don't make sizes like mens with the lengths in pants is beyond me-hey, maybe that should be my new business venture-LOL! It's true about the posture and I'm trying to work on mine. Good posture can make you look 10lbs slimmer-then hunching over. As for the meats...Louis Rich Carving Board Turkey Breast USE to have no sugars listed, now it has some -ose in it, but I don't think it registers as having any grams of sugar. You can check BOARS HEAD, not sure of that. If I come up with anything, will let you know-I haven't found any since the LR brand and now that changed. Wonder WHY they have to add that crap anyhow! Hmmm, maybe I will just have to find out! Thanks for the site about the cactus pears-the pads sound interesting. The ones I like are the oblong shaped ones-hoping to find some out there today at a decent price. I'm sure you'll get the right ratios once you're feeling better, don't worry about it. As long as you see where the improvement is needed, that's what matters. Sorry to hear your recipe wasn't good. My cousin has a great Spanikopita recipe she makes-will see if she can get it to me somehow. I too love Tiramisu-only place that had a good one closed down, hoping their only other location in Orlando is still open-I would DEFINITELY indulge in some if they are next time we go up there!

RHROO, you will get back down, you just need to get your mind in gear and FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS! If I was so close to goal I'd be dying to get there, like a piece of steak hanging in front of a dogs face without being able to eat it. Girl, what's stopping you???? Def. need some unleaded-the gas I had sure did pack a horrendous punch! LOL!

ZANNE, CONGRATS on being down 2inches, that's awesome-the scale will follow soon! I have a ton of books I can recommend. One of the best I found is AMERICAN WHOLEFOODS CUISINE by the GOLDBECKS-old book, but many good recipes in it. You should be able to find it on Ebay, or Half.com. (sent you a coupon). A few of the books I do recommend are on the RECOMMENDED READING BOARD.

Please remember, TOMORROW IS RECIPE DAY if you have any good SB LEGAL RECIPES you'd like to share with the board, please, try to post them tomorrow.

I'll check in with you all later today.

Ladies -

A quick hello to say I miss you all. Seems there are "internet issues" here at work and so I really feel violated and can't post as much as I would like. To the person causing the internet issues, I would just like to say "Why are you doing this?" Lots of sites and access are being blocked and our technicians can't access their emails from here, etc. Very frustrating and truly anti-productive in terms of efficiency as well as MORALE. Very sad.

Anyway, scanned all the posts and good to see all the new names and the vets. I am trying very hard to be 100% (altho due to the survey, see I am in good company at 75-99%). I would like to get to 130 by Thanksgiving. Right now I seem to be up 2....

So, while I may be absent a lot - don't forget me! Dad still in bad shape....

Hugs to all,
viv

It's another beautiful day in eastern Alabama--and I have a sweet kitten purring in my lap. Miss Belle was glad to see me when I got home. If I sit down she is in my lap--she is the sweetest thing!

I made the best soup last night--and it was so easy. I cooked one cup of Uncle Ben's Rice according to the directions. When the rice was cooked I added one can of chicken broth, one can of cream of chicken soup, and a 10 oz can of chicken meat. Add pepper to taste and heat through. It makes a hearty thick soup that is delicious. This made enough for 2-3 people. If you have hungry kids you can easily double or even triple the recipe.

BOB--It was kind of hazy here last night--was that the residual smoke drifting up our way? I believe I'd be after my painter to replace the bed. I can't imaging how you could split a bedleg by painting?????

I'm holding steady at 236 this week. I'm not unhappy since I've been on the road most of the last week. Even though I try to stay OP--I'm not always sure how things are prepared when I eat out so much. What I might make OP might no be when someone else prepares it!

SEF--I hope you are feeling better today.

Got to go--got a meeting in a few minutes.

Just a realy quickie here- between some food I ate yesterday that wreaked havoc on my innards, and relentless exercise, I dropped the three pounds that kept coming back. Let's hope they stay away so I can make my end of mont goal of under 150. 175/151/13? for a brief moment, anyway!

Bob- Your painter should have contractor's insurance even if he is an independent. Ask to see his certificate. Then go after him or his insurance company. If he claims he doesn't have it, threaten to report him to the BBB and EVERYONE YOU KNOW! As a former small business owner, that would sure have spurred me into making good. Start nice, then RAISE ****!
Usually works for me....

Quick question: When you all say you've lost 5 or 2 or 6 inches, what and where are you measuring? I just measured my wasit and was real depressed to discover that all I've lost in almost 3 months is 2". I can't (i hope) be measuring what everyone else is. Please let me know- I need to feel better about this somehow!
Will post more later-

Mel

Missy--Great to see you back on the board. And thanks for the nice post. Before Spurrier came to UF, no one really hated Florida. It was just one of those Middle of the road teams that lost the games that really counted. We considered a 7-4 season pretty good. But when Spurrier came and UF started really winning, well all those teams that were used to beating us didn’t like it, and so we became the team everyone loved to hate. And Spurrier doesn’t play the “aw shucks” game, and cow-tow to the old-boys network. He tells it like it is, and occasionally even steps over the line in being honest when he probably should just shut up. So that makes him a convenient target for derision. But if any other SEC school could get him, they’d take him in a minute! Several years ago, when the Gators beat UT at Knoxville, we were up there for the game and read in the local paper the next day an interesting column by the local sportswriter that the rich UT alums should do what it took to “bring Spurrier back to where he was from.” (He is from Johnson City, Tenn.) His suggestions ranged from a ton of money to his own private golf course and even ownership of a horse farm. I think Spurrier will be at Florida no more than 5 more years, so we’ll enjoy him while we have him.

We didn’t get to Red Stick because it would have cost quite a bit more money than the trip to Auburn. That’s the only reason. We had a good trip to Auburn, but I’m looking forward to the next time we play y’all, so we can get back to Lousiana. Maybe we can get together then.

Fruit--Do you load your pages in Netscape or Internet Explorer? I personally use Netscape, but several of the gals have said that they got rid of the loading problems when they used IE. So try that.

Melf--I was reading in the USA Today this morning that the terrorism has had a big impact on seniors, who have a lot of fears about what has been going on. The doctor’s advice to your mom sounds great. God is greater than anything the terrorists can do, and is a “safe port” no matter how stormy the circumstances become.

Tree--Great suggestions. Looking forward to meeting you. I’ll try to get in touch with SolShine and we’ll pick a good place for dinner on Sat. night. Sun. night doesn’t work well for me. What is your schedule on Thursday and Friday. When do you finish Friday? Also, when does your session end on Saturday?

BOB--I agree with Meliris. I can’t even imagine how he could have broken A BED!!

Well, I’m off to do chores and exercise. See ya’ll later.

Good Morning!

I had an interview with a temp agency today. Their website didn't reflect it, but they don't "do" high tech jobs. HOWEVER, the girl I spoke with came from a high tech temp agency and gave me a few names AND mentioned that she has very good connections with a few of the companies I have already applied with and will be making a few phone calls on my behalf. SOOOoooo.....not completely unprofitable. :^: We really hit it off personality-wise and I feel like she'll put forth some good effort on my behalf. If I can just get an interview with a company who employes "cool" and "very real" people I just know they would like me. :) I don't do well at banks and where people are "image conscious" and stuffy environments. No offense to any bankers out there! My dad is one....but it IS all about image and prestige at banks as far as I can tell.

Spent some time getting the car worked on after that. I'm home to grab a bite to eat and then go run some more necessary errands.

Weighed in at 197 this morning. I seem to be in a stall again. :?: This is getting old, but at least it's not above the 200 lb. mark again. I think I may jump back on fitday and "tweak" my eating again now that I"ve discovered all this wonderful ME food - THANKS DEBBIE!!! Yesterday I decided to tackle the 3.5 mile loop around our neighborhood and not worry about speed, but endurance - ya know, not CRAWLING back home. My fingers still swelled like snausages, but I wasn't dying when I got home. Took me about 75 minutes total. We figured that at around 2.8 miles per hour. When I walk on the treadmill and when I do shorter distances I can do 3.8 - 4.2 mph, so it was slower, but longer - I gues that's good.

SEF - Take care of yourself!! Please let us know the good news on your tests - I'm expecting it to bee good news, you see!

MELF - Glad to hear that your mom is being taken care of so well and that her outlook is improving. I just found out that my step-great-grandmother (93 years old) has just been put into a home. She thinks it's temporary, but it isn't. She has one of the most lovely antebellum homes in Mississippi I think. She's going to miss being there a lot. I got her new address and will be dropping her a line every once in a while.

BOB - ditto what everyone else has said about that man paying to replace your bed - with the same excellent quality product!! I know that you will see to it that justice is done. :D

DEBBIE & TREE - I think it was you two - I have a great recipe for SPANK YER PITA that we use without the filo dough (can't find the SB friendly kind here yet). I'll try to get it posted today or tomorrow.

MARIE - Glad you were able to get your tulips planted and at a time when you were able to supervise. You'll have to post a picture of them when they are in full bloom for us black thumbers. I must say that my marigolds and basil I planted around the mailbox are doing pretty darn good. the mailman thinks I'm nuts for using basil as a landscape plant, but, oh well! Gives him something to look forward to! My plumbago and lantana are doing okay - I was worried about the lantana for a while, but I hear they are hearty and hard to kill so maybe they'll pull through.

well, I've got to run, ladies. Hope everyone's a LOSER today!!

Boy is is windy out there! Just got back from a bunch of errands.

DEBELLI-Thanks for the coupon. I've not ordered from the States for a while. We get hit from everywhere: duty, Taxes, Canada Post taking a fee for collecting the other fees. I'll check out the site and if I find something I can have it sent to my inlaws condo in Florida and they can bring it home next spring!

VIV-I'll keep thinking of you and your dad.

FILLISE-Soup sounded good. I'll have to try it sometime.

MELIRIS-I measure several different places: bust, waist, gut, hips. So when I say that I've lost 2 inches, I mean TOTAL of all places I measure. Today I was down 1 inch in my hips and a half inch in two other places. 2 inches on your waist is GREAT!

SOLSHINE-Good to hear that your interview was somewhat productive. I'll keep thinking positive thoughts for you.

Inlaws are expected soon. Better go.

It's a beautiful day here in Atlanta. It actually got cold here last night. There is a freeze warning for tonight. The leaves are starting to change. I LOVE FALL!!

Anyway, not much else to report. Unfortunately don't have time to respond to everyone, but I hope everyone has a great day.

Quickie before I have to go for carpool. Hate that I have to go there to pic up the 2 kids we carpool with and then have to go back for Michael later as he's staying after to try out for some play. It's not close to my house, a good shlep, but it's my day to p/u-oh well.

VIV, through all the chaos in your life, I appreciate it when you check in:) I'm sure you'll make that Thanksgiving goal!!

FILLISE, glad you're back home safe and sound, surely Miss Belle must be purrfectly happy to have you back:D Good for you holding steady after traveling, now that you're back in your own surroundings and can eat easier, I'm sure the scale will start moving back down;)

MEL, cool beans you got those 3lbs back off! Way to go! Just 2lbs to go before you hit a great milestone-you'll be under 150!!! It's REALLY exciting to get to that point. Good advice for BOB, boy, I wouldn't want to screw up something in your house!!! As for measuring, I only started measuring my waist, stomach and right thigh long after I started SB. To give you an idea, in April 2001 my waist was 33 1/2", the other day 31 1/2", only 2" during the past 6 months. I've lost 9.5lbs from that date. In one year I've gone down 5" from my stomach, and have lost about 35lbs in that time.

SOL, hope the temp agency finds you that perfect position. Keep on doing as you are Sonya, that plateau will break soon, I'm sure of that. Look at me, 5 days at the same exact weight, not fluctuations! Good going on the walk-I would def. go for distance rather than time and speed when I have the time. So, do I hear a little sarcasm there when it comes to ME food??? Eli's up in your territory today and tomorrow-staying across from Sea World-the coffee people have taken over Orlando!!! Let me know when you post your recipe!! Hey, when I come up, I'll just have to bring some of that phyllo for you!! Actually, that WHOLE FOODS up there in Orlando area, they SHOULD carry it, that's where I found mine-at least, they could order it-call them!!

ZANNE, half.com is a used book site, some are new, but most are used. I can't imagine there being any duty on that, it's not from a store. Anyhow, I found a set of 4 books that I may try to get, one is the book I mentioned, maybe we can do something together with it, there's one book I want from the lot-have to check it out in more detail, will let you know. Where in Fl do your in-laws have a place? Many Canadians seem to migrate to the Hollywood, FL area, but ask BOB and she'll tell you they seem to all go to Sarasota!

JMUIR, CONGRATS! You did awesome this week!! CONGRATS for getting under the 200 mark!!!:spin:

Will catch you all later!

DEBELLI- Inlaws are (or will be sometime in November) in West Palm Beach. We visited in February. FIL can sniff out the garage sales there too!!!! I came back with a few treasures from there.

I bet our gov't could find a way to tax ANYTHING! I haven't tried buying used books before tho. But the difference in the $ is bad too. If you saw something for $2.99 it would cost us about $5.99 before any other charges.

I will check out the site. I may find something worthwhile. Do you have Value Village down there? I like to check out their book section here. I've picked up a lot of great stuff for my son there too.

Better go. Looking for Barley recipes.

Hi everyone

Just a quickie as I am heading out to badminton in a few minutes. Was at work all day and just had time to cook a light meal and do the dishes so I don't have them all to face at 10 o'clock tonite.

No loss this week - still at 196 which is one up from my lowest.

Sol - I can see we are still keeping each other company.

Will try to post more later.

Bye.

Marie.

Hi all.
I'm new here- this is a great site.
I have a question. I have read tons of info on insulin making us fat- and personally- sugar completely adds the weight for me (Its really amazing- its like assigning 4 times the calories the food actually contains if its sugar!) But it just doesn't make sense to me. I get that insulin rises and it stores fat. But the bottom lineis this. If you eat 250 cals of sugar over an hours while watching TV burning 60. You need 60 cals- no more no less. So whether you have insulin or not, you will use 60, and the rest will go unused. And if its unused it has to be stored whether there is a lot of insulin or not- right? What difference does it make if something "tends" to store fat. You use a certain # of calories to exist etc.???Any help with this would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Cute link to the “my friend” song....and I’m not stuffing my face with marshmallow peeps YET, but it’s probably only a matter of time. ;)

Marie
Hey 12 pounds is 12 pounds! But it’s great that you’re doing some fine tuning of your routine. I don’t see the need to eat rhubarbs personally, but to each her own! ;)

Froggie
Glad you’re feeling better about the temporary stall. I have made a lot of changes and not just weight, I guess the dramatic aspect comes in because I had so VERY much to change about myself! LOL

Tree
Thanks for the compliment. Hope your back is better by now! LMAO on the piggy banks story! So true (on your class) that we are often our own worst critics.

Shirley
LOVED the sfww cake slice story! That was the most inspiring thing I’ve heard lately!
I'm about as useful as a t*t on a boar hog!!! Whoohoo that was hilarious!!!!

Debbie2
Yep I’m sure lots of chicks in here have several sizes in their closets. I’ve posted a lot about that in the past. As part of my recovery from well a lot of things, I got RID of all my “fat” clothes and keep the “skinny” clothes separate in a drawer.

Nancy
The funny thing is, the compulsive (or at least out of control) spending and the weight/eating seem to go hand in hand for me. Is it the same with you? Like it’s the very same problem in different forms.

TV
Hay ride sounds like fun! Sorry to hear you are having a tough time. This too shall pass.

Deb
Thanks for the encouragement. It means a lot to me, especially when I’ve made so much progress but some days it seems like I haven’t.

Susan
Hope the special events went ok.

Lizery
Wow thanks for the compliment! (blush) Well as you can see, in my case top-heavy has nothing to do with boobs. So you’re lucky yours didn’t disappear. The strangest thing happened with me. I lost TONS of weight on my boobs like they practically disappeared. But my chest size has not gotten as proportionately small as my waist and hips. So I think it’s either I’ve developed my pecs and/or my lung capacity has actually increased from running. I think when I finish losing weight I’ll probably be an “A” cup, down from a C/D!!!! Right now, I wear a 12 on top, 10 on the waist, and a 6 on the hips (I can’t really get into a six, just according to my hip measurements – tummy is in the way ;) ). So I look pretty odd. ;)

Hope you feel better and great job on resisting the movie snacks.

I have to admit it is so hard to see all those THIN people eating whatever that want. I have to repeat to myself over and over "thin does not =healthy." Being that I’ve been completely obsessed with weight and body issues my entire life, I’ve done a lot of observations about the way thin and fat people eat.

It’s true that some fat people don’t eat that much. For whatever reason, be it genetics or screwed up metabolism from dieting, they can eat the same and still gain weight. Metabolism is a tricky thing and unique to each individual.

My mother is naturally thin and was 88 – 98 pounds the whole time we were growing up, until recently, when she started taking medication that made her gain weight. She LOVES SUGAR. She’ll go out of her way to find the very best junk food, like hunting in the depths of chinatown for mooncakes (with duck egg) once a year or this special factory for manapua (meat cakes). Although all three of us children got quite fat on this primarily sugar diet, she managed to stay thin. I notice she does three things that I don’t naturally do:

1) She eats only the very best food (according to her standards) not stuff that’s just lying around

2) She eats VERY slowly

3) She leaves food on her plate if she’s had enough

My sister, also a major sugar addict, managed to get and stay thin for the last ten years despite a malfunctioning (low) thyroid and other health problems which went undiagnosed. Although she eats a lot of sweets, she never eats food she doesn’t like either, and stops eating before she’s full.

At the gym, I see all kinds of people working it. Fat, skinny, young, old. The ones who look really buff are OBVIOUSLY putting a lot of work into it, because I can watch what they’re doing, day in and day out.

The conclusion of the ramble: things are not always what they seem to be when it comes to those “lucky” thin people. Although some people have slow metabolisms or other health problems, generally, weight has a lot to do with calories consumed – calories burned.

Sonya2 (thunderwoman)
Congrats on the 20 pound mark! That’s quite a milestone.

Mel
A little late, but good luck on the b-day! ;) (Okay resisted the cake, good for you!) Good idea on the grapes. It’s so hard to keep things from accidentally falling in my mouth when I’m cooking.

Don’t stay away too long! But I know you’ll do what’s best. We’ll welcome you back when you choose to join us again!

SolShine
Thanks for dropping me a note even though from my activity on this board I could have been dead. ;) You’re a good friend. LMAO at the tabouleh breath!!! I temped for quite a long time, several years, and enjoyed it at the time. Definitely give you exposure to various companies in the area and possible jobs. Good luck!

Okay I’m running out of both time and attention span to post. I’ve been doing pretty well to moderately okay for 2 weeks with my BFL program. Been doing my workouts. But starting around 6 pm last night I just SNAPPED and today I feel like I’m not only falling off the wagon but the wagon is going over a cliff at the same time. Does anybody else ever feel like that, like this switch is just turned on and all of a sudden nothing in the world matters but eating. I hope it will blow over. I have a therapy session this afternoon so that may be helpful. Sometimes I think therapy triggers stuff like this because I’ve been comfortable in my neuroses for so very long and change is painful.

So hope to have good news to report by tomorrow. It has only been this one day that I’ve been feeling run over by a truck and I’m “correcting course” as soon as I can.

Love,

Chris

Evening Ladies!

Well today I logged every item I ate on fitday. Plus I walked a mile (hilly mile) so that is a major Plus for me! Not much to report. Still feeling tired I think it's my sugar though. I'm boarder line diabetic so sometimes my levels get out of wack! Of course fogetting to take the meds can attribute to that too! I get so busy I forget to take it some days. I have to take it 2x's day and if I forget and get off schedule it screws me up! :dizzy:

Well the big race weekend is upon me! Can't wait!!! Sure would like to see my fella win this one:cool: We have decided to take our grill and tailgate and cook before we go in. That will keep the temptation of track food away;) It is like majorly cool here this evening and I'm lovin it! we need some cool weather! Ready for fall! of course the leaves are already coming down!
Have a great evening and I look forward to seeing ya'lls wonderful recipes tomorrow!!

I’ve never heard of English trifle either. It sounds good if a bit time intensive. I just discovered a low-carb recipe for sponge cake as follows:

Italian Sponge Cake
Ingredients: · 5 eggs - separated · 1 tbsp. and 1 tsp vanilla · 3 tbsp. soya powder or soy flour · 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar · 5 tbsp. sugar substitute (Splenda works best) · 1 tsp. grated lemon peel · 4 tbsp. heavy cream Place egg yolks and sugar substitute in a bowl. Beat with electric mixer until well blended. Add vanilla and lemon. Continue to beat and add soy flour one tbsp at a time. Stir in heavy cream. Beat egg whites in fresh bowl with cream of tartar until stiff but not dry. Fold yolk mixture into egg whites. Be careful not to break down egg whites - so fold carefully and slowly. Turn into greased 9" cake pan and bake at 325°F for 30 minutes or until cake tests done.Makes 9 servings. 6 carb per serving.

I substituted almond for lemon flavor and used white flour because I’m not sure if soy flour is the same thing as soy protein powder. It’s a bit dry but not bad for sugar free. I also made a chocolate variation that was pretty good.

Wow for the first time in history I can be the first to welcome someone to the forum!!! (Unless somebody else posts meanwhile ;) ) So welcome to the forum and I’ll let somebody else answer your question as I’m pretty confused on the issue myself.

Belated Tuesday Tip
For a more effective workout when walking or running, hold your back straight and your abs tight. If you don’t know how to tighten your abs and breathe at the same time, practice holding them in and taking 20 deep breaths while you are standing in line or otherwise waiting. Pretty soon you will be keeping your abs tight all the time. However the best way to develop proper posture is to walk through a very crowded gym in a sports bra....guarantee you will be sucking that s*** in!!!!!

My thoughts on Weigh in Wednesday
Last week I posted something on an initial weight gain at the start of a weight bearing exercise program. Well sure enough, after working my little patootie off all week, Monday I had a gain of THREE pounds from 145 after I was sitting around doing nothing for a month. This was annoying because I know I did well. So I decided not to torment myself. As long as I stick to my workouts I don’t need to obsess over the scale, which is not an accurate measure of progress.

EVENING EVERY BUDDY :D

Not a good WIW for BOB..I'm up two pounds...my WW leader thinks I'm retaining water and has given me a list of things to
combat this problem. It's not what I'm eating, because I've been really good this week. I'll try what she has suggested and if it works...then great...if not...then HMPF!!!

OK..this is how the bed was broken..I have berber carpet on the floor of my bedroom and it's quite hard to move furniture across it. When he pulled it away from the wall, it was empty but he pulled on the "spindle" between the two lower posters. When he got it where he wanted it, he place things on top of it that were in the floor and around the room. When he was finished and was ready to put it back, he pushed with all the extra weight on it and the wook cracked around where the rail fits into it. I had originally asked him to leave everything and I would put it back where it went. I reminded him of this after he showed me the problem. NOW I have discovered another culprit in this action today...my MOTHER is the one who suggest the NAIL be DRIVEN IN!!
Keep in mind that this is not a painter from a business, or an independent...he's the son of a friend of my Mom's...NOW...I'll repeat the question...DO YOU THINK MY HOME OWNERS WILL COVER THIS???

Thanks for all your suggestions..BELIEVE ME...I could have strangled him last night..I would never tell my brother...he would be the first to tell me you get what you pay for!!

I'm off to relax...HELLO TO EVERYONE....Viv ..hope your Dad is feeling a little better.....MELF...keep up updated on your Mom..

Hey y'all!

Can you believe 2 nights in a row?!? Do I get a prize for that?

SPARKLE & GATOR: I use Netscape so I may have to consult that "computer geek" friend of mine to help me out here! It is so frustrating! Or - I'll have to look into Internet Explorer.

GATOR: My hubby was telling me that Spurrier was offered LSU at the same time as Florida and he went to Florida. Think how good LSU would be if he would have come here! Maybe he'll be here next. If he would - I would just miss looking at Saban! HAHA!

BOB: Forgot to mention the bed last night - that totally sucks!! I have no idea if your homeowners will cover it. I guess you'll have to pick up the phone and ask!

TREE: Great tips on the clothes but don't you find those tips hard to follow? I don't know about y'all but everytime I walk into Lane Bryant, etc. all I see is crap that fat people shouldn't wear! The clothes all say "HELLO - HERE COMES A FAT PERSON THAT IS TRYING TO WEAR COOL SKINNY PEOPLE CLOTHES!!" They are horrible - the colors, styles, stripes, etc! And I definately don't have time to learn to sew! HAHA! I love shopping - in general - but 1) I'm already depressed cause I'm fat and 2) the clothes all suck!! Anyone else have these same feelings?

DEB: You are so wonderful - you are looking great and such a positive influence on all of us - can you move in with me?!?!:^: I think that will be the only way I can stay on track. It's amazing how just one year ago I wasn't putting anything "toxic" in my body - now I do it all the time! I'm just having such a hard time staying on plan! You feel like coming to South Louisiana any time soon? I could use some shaping up! :dizzy:

Well ladies, maybe I'll see y'all again tomorrow. Sorry I don't have time to post to everyone - you are all so great - I just have NO TIME!!!!

Love ya!

This is a real quickie, both kids have been on the computer all night doing homework and I have 5 minutes before Michael needs it back, so I have no time to post to everyone right now, will do so sometime tomorrow morning.

CLAUDEL, WELCOME TO THE BOARD! Glad you have joined us. I'll try to decipher your question sometime tomorrow and see if I can answer it for you:D

fruitloupe - I follow these tips - wear black, straighten the shoulders, shiny stuff or colors for accessories. I like vests too. I don't usually go for patterns, I think texture catches the eye better (like the feel of a silk/sueded shirt). Yeah, there's a lot of bad stuff out there. Believe me, unless you know of a cheap fabric place, it's not worth sewing (tried that). You spend more time and $$ on the supplies than if you were to buy it. I like some of the stuff at Fashion Bug or Steinmart (discount store). I don't know if you have those there.

Debelli- I especially hate the petite section, buttons and bows OH MY! Who's petite at 5'4"? In modeling, 5'8" is considered petite! Do I feel short or what?
I've been an embryologist for 7 years. Love the job, it is so rewarding!

Lizery - did you check your % of carbs, protein, and fats? I noticed on my fitday journal, that I don't consume enough protein. SB suggests 40% carbs, 30%protein, and 30% fat. They say that eating protein stimulates glucagon production, which mobilizes STORED fat into glucose for USE. I tend to eat more carbs. Just a side note, when I tried the Atkins low-carb diet, I wasn't hungry AT ALL. Once the carb cravings were gone, I had to make myself eat. I lost 2#, only reached mild ketosis, AND I felt terrible.

BOB- I think you need to take this situation up with your mom. See if she wants to discuss it with her friend. Follow her lead. Wish you luck, but you may be SOL (not solshine!)

Sparkle- sounds like your Mom eats like the French eat. They do all the same things, and also they never eat between meals.

Solshine- I definitely want to try your recipe!for spanakopita. :^:

Welcome Claudel! Ok, here's my theory. You need so much to maintain your body's functions, plus you need fuel for stress and exertion (exercise). Whatever is not used is stored. The body uses glucose for it's energy. So, if you consume a lot of calories (in sugar/Glucose) it can use that energy immediately for fuel for your body. But if you consume a lot of calories in fructose or low GI foods, your body has to process that food TO glucose before it can use it and/or store it for fat. So more calories get used up for processing, and less is available to store as fat. Does that make sense? Hope that answered your ?.

Mari-If your lantana survives the first year it should last forever. The only problem we have here are the white flies which love them.

Gatorgal- Thurs night I will be studying/cramming! My exam on Friday should be done by 4pm. On Sat & Sun, my course ends at 5pm. See you soon!

Meliris- I empathize with you. :( I've lost 6# since I started SB, but I think the tummy turmoil of the last 2weeks gets the credit for that.

I gotta go. I'm still packing for my trip.

Good Thursday Morning:wave:

It's a rainy day here in SOFLA so my walking plans for the morning were thwarted:( I doubt I will be able to get out later, as the day progresses my desire regresses. I won't have time this evening, have to volunteer at Michael's school tonight.

The scale is up AGAIN for me today, 126. What more can I do than I'm already doing-just be patient and wait for the scale to go down. It's happened before, just wish I knew why! Would be nice to be able to pinpoint it to something, but the only thing is mid-cycle-even though I know it's not from anything I'm doing wrong, it does drive me a bit batty!

Already got in my milkshake this morning. In reading the book by Dr. Arnot, he suggests having protein 15 minutes before eating anything else and suggests something like a glass of milk, or even yogurt-yesterday and today I made a shake and timed myself, really, I did see where after 15 minutes I could feel the difference, vs when I eat a fruit first thing in the morning. Will try to post more of his reasoning when I get a chance.

ZANNE, will e-mail you after I take a better look at this auction to see if there's something we could do, cause the book I recommended is on there. Maybe I can get it to your In-Laws if you're interested. My Aunt & Uncle live in WPB on the island and we usually go up there Thanksgiving Day. Garage sales there, must be more like treasure hunts! I know the taxes in Canada are bad-some states are like that too-thank goodness we aren't one of them, though I think taxes as a whole are too high. VALUE VILLAGE, what's that?? Guess that tells you we don't have one:D

ROSALIE, def. holding your own is better than a again. I'm sure the scale will go down soon-you seem to follow this trend of holding than dropping. Hope you had a good badmiton game.

CLAUDEL, I read your question a few times, I think I know what you are asking, but not positive I-will try to help, then you can tell me if I hit the nail on the head, or I'm way off base. Here's some info I found that may help-if it doesn't, at least it's an interesting article!:

How Fat Cells Work
by Craig C. Freudenrich, Ph.D.

About half of the adults in the United States are overweight. That's 97 million people who have too much fat. Many Americans exercise and go on diets to reduce their amount of body fat.

But have you ever wondered what fat is? When a person "gets fat" -- gains weight -- what is actually happening inside the person's body? What are "fat cells" and how do they work?

In this edition of HowStuffWorks Fitness, we will look at the world of the fat cell. We will examine where fat cells are located, how they store fat and how they get rid of it!

Where's the Fat?

Fat, or adipose tissue, is found in several places in your body. Generally, fat is found underneath your skin (subcutaneous fat). There's also some on top of each of your kidneys. Other locations depend upon whether you are a man or woman:

An adult man tends to carry body fat in his chest, abdomen and buttocks, producing an "apple" shape.
An adult woman tends to carry fat in her breasts, hips, waist and buttocks, creating a "pear" shape.
The difference in fat location comes from the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone.

Your body contains two types of fat tissue:

White fat - important in energy metabolism, heat insulation and mechanical cushioning.
Brown fat - found mostly in newborn babies, between the shoulders; important for thermogenesis (making heat).
Fat tissue is made up of fat cells. Fat cells are a unique type of cell. You can think of a fat cell as a tiny plastic bag that holds a drop of fat:
White fat cells are large cells that have very little cytoplasm, only 15 percent cell volume, a small nucleus and one large fat droplet that makes up 85 percent of cell volume.
brown fat cells are somewhat smaller, are loaded with mitochondria and are composed of several smaller fat droplets. The mitochondria are able to generate heat.
Fat cells are formed in the developing fetus during the third trimester of pregnancy, and later at the onset of puberty, when the sex hormones "kick in." It is during puberty that the differences in fat distribution between men and women begin to take form. One amazing fact is that fat cells do not multiply after peuberty -- as your body stores more fat, the number of fat cells remains the same. Each fat cell simply gets bigger!
In addition to fat tissue, some fat is stored in the liver, and an even smaller amount in muscle.

How Fat Enters Your Body

When you eat food that contains fat, mostly triglycerides, it goes through your stomach and intestines. In the intestines, the following happens:

Large fat droplets get mixed with bile salts from the gall bladder in a process called emulsification. The mixture breaks up the large droplets into several smaller droplets called micelles, increasing the fat's surface area. Emulsification in Your Kitchen
When you add water to a greasy skillet, the grease forms a layer on top of the water. If you squeeze one drop of dishwashing liquid into the center of the skillet, you'll see the large grease layer immediately break up into small droplets.
The pancreas secretes enzymes called lipases that attack the surface of each micelle and break the fats down into their parts, glycerol and fatty acids.
These parts get absorbed into the cells lining the intestine.
In the intestinal cell, the parts are reassembled into packages of fat molecules (triglycerides) with a protein coating called chylomicrons. The protein coating makes the fat dissolve more easily in water.
The chylomicrons are released into the lymphatic system -- they do not go directly into the bloodstream because they are too big to pass through the wall of the capillary.
The lymphatic system eventually merges with the veins, at which point the chylomicrons pass into the bloodstream.
You might be wondering why fat molecules get broken down into glycerol and fatty acids if they're just going to be rebuilt. This is because fat molecules are too big to easily cross cell membranes. So when passing from the intestine through the intestinal cells into the lymph, or when crossing any cell barrier, the fats must be broken down. But, when fats are being transported in the lymph or blood, it is better to have a few, large fat molecules than many smaller fatty acids, because the larger fats do not "attract" as many excess water molecules by osmosis as many smaller molecules would.

How Fat is Stored in Your Body

Chylomicrons do not last long in the bloodstream -- only about eight minutes -- because enzymes called lipoprotein lipases break the fats into fatty acids. Lipoprotein lipases are found in the walls of blood vessels in fat tissue, muscle tissue and heart muscle. The activity of lipoprotein lipases depends upon the levels of insulin in the body. If insulin is high, then the lipases are highly active; if insulin is low, the lipases are inactive.

Insulin

When you eat a candy bar or a meal, the presence of glucose, amino acids or fatty acids in the intestine stimulates the pancreas to secrete a hormone called insulin. Insulin acts on many cells in your body, especially those in the liver, muscle and fat tissue. Insulin tells the cells to do the following:
Absorb glucose, fatty acids and amino acids
Stop breaking down:
glucose, fatty acids and amino acids
glycogen into glucose
fats into fatty acids and glycerol
proteins into amino acids
Start building:
glycogen from glucose
fats (triglycerides) from glycerol and fatty acids
proteins from amino acids

The fatty acids are then absorbed from the blood into fat cells, muscle cells and liver cells. In these cells, under stimulation by insulin, fatty acids are made into fat molecules and stored as fat droplets.

It is also possible for fat cells to take up glucose and amino acids, which have been absorbed into the bloodstream after a meal, and convert those into fat molecules. The conversion of carbohydrates or protein into fat is 10 times less efficient than simply storing fat in a fat cell, but the body can do it. If you have 100 extra calories in fat (about 11 grams) floating in your bloodstream, fat cells can store it using only 2.5 calories of energy. On the other hand, if you have 100 extra calories in glucose (about 25 grams) floating in your bloodstream, it takes 23 calories of energy to convert the glucose into fat and then store it. Given a choice, a fat cell will grab the fat and store it rather than the carbohydrates because fat is so much easier to store.

It is important to note that as your body stores more fat, the number of fat cells remains the same; each fat cell simply gets bigger.

Hormones That Act Opposite to Insulin

When you are not eating, your body is not absorbing food. If your body is not absorbing food, there is little insulin in the blood. However, your body is always using energy; and if you're not absorbing food, this energy must come from internal stores of complex carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Under these conditions, various organs in your body secrete hormones:

pancreas - glucagon
pituitary gland - growth hormone
pituitary gland - ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone)
adrenal gland - epinephrine (adrenaline)
thyroid gland - thyroid hormone
These hormones act on cells of the liver, muscle and fat tissue, and have the opposite effects of insulin.

How Your Body Breaks Down Fat

When you are not eating, or you are exercising, your body must draw on its internal energy stores of complex carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Your body's prime source of energy is glucose. In fact, some cells in your body, such as brain cells, can get energy only from glucose.

The first line of defense in maintaining energy is to break down carbohydrates, or glycogen, into simple glucose molecules -- this process is called glycogenolysis. Next, your body breaks down fats into glycerol and fatty acids in the process of lipolysis. The fatty acids can then be broken down directly to get energy, or can be used to make glucose through a multi-step process called gluconeogenesis. In gluconeogenesis, amino acids can also be used to make glucose.

In the fat cell, other types of lipases work to break down fats into fatty acids and glycerol. These lipases are activated by various hormones, such as glucagon, epinephrine and growth hormone. The resulting glycerol and fatty acids are released into the blood, and travel to the liver through the bloodstream. Once in the liver, the glycerol and fatty acids can be either further broken down or used to make glucose.

Brown Fat: Making Heat

When you are first born, your body does not have much white fat to help insulate and retain body heat; although there are white fat cells, there is not much fat stored in them. A newborn baby produces heat (thermogenesis) primarily by breaking down fat molecules into fatty acids in brown fat cells. Instead of those fatty acids leaving the brown fat cell, as happens in white fat cells, they get further broken down in the mitochondria and their energy is released directly as heat. This same process occurs in hibernating animals, which have more brown fat than humans. Once the newborn baby starts eating more, developing layers of white fat, the brown fat goes away. Adult humans have little or no brown fat.

Losing Weight and Losing Fat

Your weight is determined by the rate at which you store energy from the food that you eat, and the rate at which you use that energy. Most experts agree that the way to maintain a healthy weight is:

Eat a balanced diet - appropriate amounts glucose, fat and protein
Do not eat excessively - for most people, a diet of 1,500 to 2,000 calories a day is sufficient to maintain a healthy weight
Exercise regularly

SPARKLE, you said It’s true that some fat people don’t eat that much I was one of those fat people who didn't eat much, how could I with my stomach stapled (before may of been a different story, but not after and to this day). Remember what I keep saying, if you eat too little, it's just as bad as when you eat too much. Not that that's the case with every overweight person, like you said, there are other factors that could be the culprit, like hormones, genetics, closet eaters (I was one of those), but for me, I didn't eat much, just ate the wrong stuff, candy, cookies and ice cream where my main staple items-lots of fat, sugar and calories, but not a lot of food, okay, let me rephrase that, NO FOOD, thanks not food, it's all empty calories-but it sure does pack on the pounds!!! Remember also, not all thin people are healthy-they probably could use SB just to eat healthier. I guess it's all in how you feel, mentally and physically.:D As for falling off the BFL wagon-I personally think you try to do too much and it just overwhelms you-try taking it easy, you're too young to push yourself like this, look what happens every time you do. I can see it happening over and over, can you??

NASCAR, hope your "guy" wins the race:) Good for you with keeping up with your fitday journal!!! It def. helps.

BOB, hmmm, what's the worse your insurance company can say regarding the bed, but "NO." Did this jerk offer ANY compensation? And your Mom suggested the nail, huh? I guess we know who will be nailed to the wall for that decision! I hope there's some way to fix it properly and that you don't have to pay for it. Don't worry about that 2lb gain, I'm up 5lbs, I'd take the lesser of two evils any day.

LIZ, with already knowing your calories are too low, but with the numbers you gave, your fats were right on target at 30%, your carbs were also on target at 40% and your proteins just a tad over 30%, so really, you did wonderful for the calories you did take in. Just do the same with a few more calories. How was your fiber and calcium intake?

FRUIT, you do surprise us sometimes-can we make it 3 in a row? You made mention about a year ago-can you give us some comparrisons on where you were a year ago and were you are today and why you feel better/worse than you did back then? I think when you look back and see the time you've wasted, and think were you could be, it opens your eyes to realize that if you don't do something now, you'll most likely be in worse shape next year and again, you'll be looking back saying, "two years ago I was..." If not now-when?

TREE, I don't go for petite shirts, I like ones that go to my thighs, feel that it hides those trunks a little better. Just would LOVE to find a pair of nice black silk pants THAT DON'T NEED TO BE HEMMED! I won't buy anything that needs altering-I feel if I buy it, it's probably a good deal and if I have to pay to have it altered, no longer is it a good deal-sorta like my MC bill, if I find something on sale and charge it, what good is it being a bargin if I'm going to pay finance charges on it.

Time to take Lauren to school. I'll get back on later, have a few recipes to post - remember TODAY IS RECIPE DAY! so if you have any good SB LEGAL RECIPES you'd like to share, please, try to post them today.

Have a great day!

Hmm I am not sure about the fiber and calcium. I think between the cereal and spinach fiber was ok? lol:?: calcium, well I take a supplement for that so that is fine I guess.

So if this was YOUR menu where would you add the calories and what amount of calories should I shooting for? I do not want to sabatoge my body and screw up my metabolism :(

Hi everyone

It's a bright, sunny and cool morning here and the leaves are really coming down so I'll be having quite a bit of raking to do soon. Not to-day though as I have some running around to do before going to work this p.m.

Bob - I hope you can get your bed fixed.

Melf - Glad to hear that things are going better with your Mom. It's great that she feels needed at the NH. It will certainly make it easier for you all. Sounds like she has a great doctor.

Tree - Thanks for the tips on the clothes. You made some good points.

Zanne - Congrats on being down 2 inches. That's just as important as the pounds. I planted about 50 tulip bulbs. I'm so glad they don't have to be planted every year. I was looking at some old photos recently and there was one taken just a few years ago when we had lots of tulips growing. This year there were none so thought it was time to plant some again. I don't know how long they are supposed to last, I think the last batch were there for several years. I like to see lots of nice flowers but I'm really not much of a gardener. I used to leave it to my hubby, but I don't have him to do it anymore, as he passed away earlier this year. I have a couple of barley recipes. One is for Baked Barley from TGR and the other Chicken Barley Casserole from SB! for Kids. I haven't tried either of them yet but will try to get them typed up and posted soon.

Deb - I scanned the menu at OUTBACK but didn't see any sweet potatoes. I'll make a point of asking the next time I go there. I'm sure I'll be going back there soon. Maybe drop by there for lunch one day. Enjoy your trip to the hairdresser next week. I think it's a good idea to take some styles from magazines with you. It was interesting to read that article about Agave Nectar and the effect of the fructose when consumed with higher gi foods, i.e it takes on the gi of the other foods. I wonder if that is one of the reasons why we are told not to eat fruit with a meal. It says on page 131/2 of SB! "Consequently fruit alone as a snack is very beneficial but in combination with other carbohydrates loses the advantage of lower insulin secretion that is achieved when eaten by itself." I think they could have explained the reason for this statement a little better.

Viv - Sorry to hear your Dad is still in bad shape. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Hope you can reach your goal by Thanksgiving.

Fillise - Sounds like Miss Belle missed you while you were away. Your soup sounds good. I'll have to try it sometime.

Meliris - Glad to see you have lost three pounds but it doesn't sound like a good way of doing it. Hope you are feeling better now.

Solshine - Hope the job search is successful soon. It sounds like you are more of a gardener than I am. I will try to remember to post a picture when the tulips come out. Usually sometime in April when they come out, depending on the weather of course. Sounds like you are doing great with the walking.

Jmuir - Congrats on the 2.5 pounds down. We're having some cooler weather here too. They were predictng frost last nite and maybe snow flurries but at least we were spared the snow.

Chris - Thanks for the cake recipe although I am not sure if it would be suitable for a trifle. I would think it would disintegrate under the jello. I usually use a Sara Lee pound cake, just about a third of the cake. The trifle is really very easy to make. Too bad it is not SB legal. But my kids like to have it occasionally. Soy flour would not be the same as soy protein powder. I wouldn't think that could be substitued for the flour. Glad to hear you have been doing O.K with the BFL program so far. I just hope you can stay on track. You've come too far to be falling off of the wagon now.

Deb - I'll have to come back later and read the article in your last post.

Have to go jump in the shower and get out of here.

Bye for Now.

Marie.

Uh Oh:eek:

BIG TROUBLE! I made a recipe that I just posted on the recipe board for CAROB PECAN SQUARES-it makes 16 small, thin square bars, I've eaten two already! They were sooo easy to make and they are sooo delicious! I'm going to figure out just how many calories are in a 1oz serving, hopefully that will keep me from eating any more today-oye, they are sooo good!!!!!

LIZERY, your fitday journal should have your fiber and calcium intake figured in there, so take a gander and see if you can find the info. You should try to get in at least 25 grams of fiber and of course, calcium should be 1Kmg, but since you take a supplement, you're okay on that end. From the looks of what you posted, I doubt you got enough of either-fiber is really good to up, it helps you fill up and feel full for longer, helps you not absorb as much fat, plus of course, it helps you elimate the food easier. I don't remember your current weight, so e-mail me and I'll figure it out and let you know what I'd do with the intake:)

ROSALIE, your Outback is open for lunch? None of the ones down here, or any I've ever been to anywhere else is opened for lunch-wish they were though! We have to make sure with the agave it's put with low-GI foods, don't want to have to have it be counter-productive!

Okay, back to the kitchen! To clean!!!!!!!;)

ZANNE - Thanks for the positive thoughts. I just saw you have a "Christmas Wish" goal - that's a great idea! I think I'm gonna do that too. Just have to think of what's realistic for my body. It's awfully attached to it's "fat" friends.

MEL - I measure my bust (over AND under), my waist (around my belly button), my hips, my right thigh and my right upper arm. The key, Vince has told me, is to measure the same place consistently - so even if you're measuring in the "wrong" place according to some chart or something - you are consistently checking the measurement in the same place on your body and will still be able to track progress. I haven't lost anything on my hips, but I've lost 1 inch on my waist and about an inch on my chest (under) and about a 1/4 inch on my thigh. Now, my foot has gone down nearly 1 whole size - wish I had been measuring my feet!!

DEBBIE - ;) I'm surprised you got my sarcasm! I thought, well, if she doesn't get it she'll definitely get that I LIKE all the ME food she's introduced me to. Vince was contemplating writing a book called, "Coffee as Food" as it is SO essential to his job and so many others too. I would love to have met Eli while he was here! That convention center and SeaWorld are on the other side of the world from me and he's probably very busy if he's here for work. They pretty much keep 'em running when they bring people down here. It kinda stinks 'cause they get to go to "ORLANDO" but then they don't get to do any of the fun stuff while they're here. I don't get it! We do have season tickets to Sea World and will be checking it out again soon - especially since it won't be so crowded now. Whole Foods is right around the corner from me, so I'll definitely check it out this week-end when I do my shopping. Thanks for all the cool information you posted!

MARIE - We are definitely going to have to meet somewhere when we reach our goals since we've plugged along together for so long!! My mom used to make Trifle with homemade pudding and man oh man was it good!! She would practically have to lock it up to keep us out of it if she made it ahead of time for company or something! I think she used sponge cake - or angel food cake for it - it was definitely a light and airy cake. I'll have to ask her. (That will win my brownie points, too, won't it? Asking Mom for one of her recipes. :) )

CLAUDEL WELCOME!! This is definitely the place to get answers and help and encouragement!

SPARKLEY ONE - I like your observations about thin people. People tend to think that Vince can eat anything he wants to because he's so thin, but they don't realize that he's so thin because he DOESN'T eat everything he wants to. The man eats TUNA FISH every day for lunch!! He also has an apple and a carrot every day with it. He runs, does weights or martial arts every single day of the week and sometimes 2x/day. He does everything right regarding diet and exercise - that's why he's thin! So he can afford the occasional indulgence in sinfully delicious food. I agree with Debbie about your tendency to take on too much AND your tendency to expect perfection from yourself. Pick one thing - one little thing , maybe 2 - and work on that until it becomes second nature (NO TIME LIMITS!). THEN tackle the next thing.

NASCAR WOMAN I'll be looking for you at the races! Make sure you let the camera people know how very important you are and that you are seen on tv!! I sure hope Dale Jr. does good.

BOB - My heart breaks for you!! Trying to do a friend a favor and it backfires. I don't know squat about homeowners policies, but I would think there's probably a good chance that it might be covered. Please let us know. Is it 'unsleepable'? You aren't having to camp out on the floor, are you??

LIZERY - When I was trying to "up" my calories I added one of those little cottage cheese cups to my snack time. Sometimes I would add fruit to it, a protein powder or Splenda - sometimes I would eat it plain. If you prefer yogurt that might be a good snack to add. Looks like you might need more veggies, but I defer to the pros.

MISSY - I had the same problem with Netscape and I use IE exclusively now with no problems. I hate shopping at Lane Bryant and it pisses me off that all their models in the catalots are anorexic. I buy from Roaman's and Junonia mostly. They have more "real" models and I have always gotten good service. Jjill is too expensive for me and I like Ulla Popken's stuff, but have only ordered one thing from them. I buy the men's plain t-shirts at Wal-Mart for $6 in XXL sizes and wear those with stretch pants most of the time. Sounds like DEBBIE and I wear pretty much the same style. I didn't know it cost so much to sew. That has been on my "to do" list (learning to sew) - but what I hear from you and TREE is that it's more time and not really any savings on the money side. Bummer.

TREE - SPANK YER PITA HAS BEEN POSTED TO THE RECIPE BOARD. I always take out the shoulder pads on my clothes. I don't need any more bulk up there!

Okay I have posted 3 - count 'em THREE recipes on the board! SPANK YER PITA - MANGO CHICKEN - CURRY TUNA SALAD - all are very quick, very easy and very good!! I can vouch for all of them.

Going to sit by the phone and wait for that call. Have a great day everyone!!

What a pleasure to begin my day by logging on and reading about my friends each day! I'm so blessed to have all of you in my life--THANKS!:)

Liz--Like Deb says, you have a good breakdown of fats/proteins/and carbs. I have a hard time getting enough protein so I'm thinking about trying a protein powder to mix into a shake or yougurt each day. Has anyone else tried this?

Maire--the soup is good--especially on a cool day. It also has a good balance of proteins/carbs/fat. I think it is about to become a staple in my diet. Especially since it is so easy to hear up for lunch--and lunch is the hardest meal for me!

Deb--Thanks for the article from"how stuff works." See--new people ask questions and the rest of us also learn. We are lucky to have you as a good resource!:D

BOB--I think homeowners is supposed to cover accidents--which it sounds like you had! All they can say is no--but it is worth a shot. I know you're mom though she was trying to help--but what was she thinking:?: I'll bet that two pounds is the steam pressure building up inside! Also rmember that many of us who have started working out have seen the scale start to behave funny--that lean musclemass you are building will do you lots of good in the long run--even if it is frustrating in the short term!

Claudel--Welcome! Deb's article is excellent. If you haven't read the SB book--it offers a pretty good explanation of the relationship between insulin and fat. To distill what it says and what Deb's article says--when your blood sugar rises you have to produce insulin to lower it. The hormones produced by the insulin (or the carbs) promotes the body's ability to convert the glucose into fat. When you consume foods that are low glycemic--or do not raise blood sugar--then the body has to turn to its fat stores to produce energy. Consuming protein releases a substance that converts stored fat to energy. Don't get sidetracked by focusing exclusively on calories. Calories are important--but it's not that simple. I strongly suggest that if you haven't yet read the Sugar Buster's book, that you check it out of the library. I think the new Sugar Buster's for kids--explains the concept even more clearly than the original book, so you might check that out as well! Good luck!

Got to go. Time to do some work then hit the gym at lunch.

Have a good day everyone!

Just a quick check in, again....

I'
m up 3 lbs and I wonder if that's because TOM will start on sunday....does ANYONE know how your body knows to have PMS if you're on BCPs? It just doesn't make sense to me! Been 98% OP and exercising, drinking my green tea....ah, middle age does not cooperate with weight loss!!!

DEB - I liked that fat article you posted. I have a hard time explaining the insulin thing to people. Thanks for the email test this AM, wierd things happening. Ebay is my life - becoming a major obsession!!!

Zanne and Rosalie - Thanks for the good wishes. I found a gorgeous beer stein in my "travels" from Berlin, where my Dad is from = sent it to him and it totally made his day. It's just hard to keep up with those little things when I have sooooo many little things to keep up with.

Melf - Keep us posted on your Mom. Seems lots of us are at that time - maybe we should form a support group within a support group " Sugarbusters with Aging Parents".

Hockey tryouts again tonite. Yuck. Yuck. I told my son that NOTHING he does in sports will ever get him as far as his academic achievements. The obsession this town has with sports achievement is really difficult to deal with at times. It's just completely out of perspective - you should see the POLITICKING that goes on at tryouts - it is TRULY funny...and sad and obnoxious at the same time!!!

Gotta get back to work - hugs to all -- autumn in New England is absoluately gorgeous, right RHROO???

Sorry I've been such a whiner the last week or so, but I just can't seem to pull out of this fog I'm trapped in. Just having a spell with bad luck and bad moods combined. I hate to feel this way!!

I have to say that yesterday was the ultimate worst PMS day EVER :( - MEGA cramps that spasmed all throughout my lower abdominals. I didn't even come to work!! I never do that!!!! Still cramping this morning even, but not quite as bad.

To top it off, I had a dentist appt that I had re-scheduled twice already yesterday afternoon. I pulled myself out of the bed and went, but boy I got more than I bargained for. Some of you may remember my saying that I busted out the back of my crown from grinding my teeth at night during the cancer stuggle with my Dad. Well, went to have that fixed and they found that the other crown was cracked too! Now these crowns (front, middle, top) were 12 years old but I don't remember going through all of this when I got them!! I got the shots that go straight up (feels like it enters your nose cavity) and nitrous :dizzy: to keep me calm (I  that stuff). It still felt like they were breaking glass in my mouth!!! 2 hours in the chair, now I have these temporaries that look like white chicklets!!! They actually don't look too bad unless I smile big enough to see the top. My gums are a mess - all brused and swollen!! Don't get me wrong, my dentist is #1 in my book, but man - I could have lived without all of this mess right now!!

My WIW was up by 1, but was to be expected. 159/147/125

Haven't caught up reading, so will respond personally later. I'm posting a receipe for Tomato Florentine Soup on the receipe board. Catch you all later!

Just thought I would pop in and let all of you know I am still alive, and hopefully still considered a part of this group. I do apologize for my lack of participation and support. I do my best to keep up on reading posts. Since August, I have been dealing with some family/personal issues - mainly my GM with her being hospitalized 3 times since July. This last time was a hum-dinger. She was in for 2 weeks. The only diagnosis that makes sense to me is, she is slowly losing her will to live. She is 92. Her only 2 children - my mom and aunt - have been dead for years, as well as my GF. Without airing ALL my dirty laundry, I have never been close to my GM. I have been doing as much as I can to spend time with her, and trying to motivate her and getting her to eat. With all this going on, it continues to be hard for me to be 100% OP. I do feel as though I am 75%-100%. That's how I voted in this week's poll. With that percentage rate, I am still bouncing mainly between 120-124. I have no desire to exercise for now. Over all, I manage not to beat myself up through all of this. I need all the lifting up I can get, and it might as well start with me. With all this crap going on with terrorism and war, keeping my spirits up can be like physically lifting weights:lol: I hope you all don't mind this bummer post. I have seen the thoughtful posts asking my whereabouts.

Bob, I am still here and still bumping along on the wagon. I guess with football season, it's too noisy to hear me response to roll-call. I hope the "bed situation" gets resolved.

Rhroo/Rhonda - Thank you too, for asking about me, as well. One thing...Am I an oldie or goodie???

Mary - I hope the meds begin to help your mom soon. Worrying about loved ones can really put a strain on how we tend to deal with things as well. I hope you have a great trip. Let's chat soon.

As far as WIW yesterday, I was 122. Not sure where that puts me as far as week to week stats. That is up 2 from my lowest thus far, tho. I am glad to see the continued motivation from you dedicated ladies. Also, it is nice to see all the many new faces.... A BIG welcome to each of you. I hope you all don't mind me doing it in ONE sweep.

Take care to each of you. I'll be back!!!!!!!!!!!1

Am- sorry about your GM. Gosh, we are all on a major family roll here....:(

TV - Your dental details gave me the chills. I despise the dentist. Just the shot alone is enough to make me hide under the covers!!!

Oops - meant to post this review of Sugarbusters for Kids from Amazon -

At first glance, Sugar Busters for Kids looks like a no-no. Aren't we supposed to encourage healthy eating but avoid putting our children on diets? However, if you can bring yourself to look past the hype, what you'll find here is actually a fairly sensible family eating plan that aims to improve overall health with the same changes recommended by your own family doctor: more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, and less animal fat and sugar, no matter what form that sugar takes.
The program revolves around the glycemic index of food, which is defined as "a measure of how carbohydrates differ in their ability to elevate blood sugars and insulin levels after they are digested." Foods with low glycemic indexes like whole wheat, black beans, milk, and cherries are encouraged, while rice noodles, corn flakes, and potatoes have high numbers and should be avoided.

Much of the book is devoted to scary statistics about the health of children worldwide. Busy parents might be wise to skip these chapters and focus on the practical matters of how to change their family's daily habits. The basic plan offers plenty of good guidelines along with meal-planning ideas, suggestions for portion control, "phasing in" new foods, and making exercise a fun family activity.

Most of us have heard that more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains improve overall health. If your family needs more specific guidelines to follow through on dietary changes, Sugar Busters for Kids may be just the ticket. --Jill Lightner

Hi everyone. It's nearly TGIF!! I'm having a fun day with my music kiddos doing some fun activities.:) I had good news when I stepped on the scales this morning. After a couple of days of being up from my lowest weight I found that those two pounds had gone plus another half.
Another plus...I measured again today and found that I've lost another inch in my hips. Always good news. DH is not happy that other things are also shrinking.

DH is diabetic, if I haven't told you that. I quit nagging about his weight a long time ago. I just keep the life insurance paid up.
 Anyway, he is finally getting concerned because he's having trouble with his feet. So we are in the process of finding a specialist that our insurance will cover. I'm taking my SB! book with me to show the dr. I'm hoping he'll encourage Dennis to give it a try.

OK. I've written a book and it's almost time for my kiddies to come to class.

Have a great day!

Afternoon all!

I thought I'd get a quick post in here at work! So far ok this week. I did walk yesterday evening so that's a plus! Trying to get back into the habit! I use to be so good:^: at doing my exercise.
Sol - I'm sure Jr. will do well. In the spring he was a hot shot and lead a long time! It's in his blood to do well a dega! I sure hope Bobby (#18) gets a top ten! he needs it. He's just had a bad year. But for now he's still the champion:D

Deb - I plan on checking out those great sounding bars! I'm learning to venture out on the trying new stuff!

Well better get busy! Will try to post later this evening ....of course gotta watch charmed tonight!

Hey Y'all:wave:

Thought I'd try to get in a quick post before I have to go get Lauren at school.

Okay, reality set in once I figured out how bad these bars were if I kept eating them. I succumbed to eating 4 squares equaling 2.9oz-of course, after I figured out just how many calories were in them I just about fainted! I always figure a bit high, and unfortunately, I didn't weigh the almonds or carob chips which would of given me a better figure of the calories, but anyhow, eating those 4 little squares gave me 350 calories, 21.5 grams of fat:eek: 34.5 grams carbs, 7.5 protein, 2 fiber and 5.5 calcium. The calories and fat are killer-but boy, I haven't taste calories and fats that good from something I've baked in a lonnggggg time-if ever!;) Michael tried them when he got home and licked them as well, so I got his stamp of approval!

SOL, you can tell VINCE he can interview Eli for his best-seller when he's ready! LOL! Glad you are liking the ME food, you really should try to get the book A TASTE OF LEBANON, it's one of the best, and recipes are really easy! Eli's due home this evening. I'm sure he'll be pooped, they packed in a schedule that gave them no time to do anything other than sleep when they all weren't together. We'll have some "us time" in the next few months! Let me know if you find the phyllo at the WF market when you go. I too got the SB for Kids book from the library, was sort of unimpressed with it, I think most of the recipes in the book didn't sound so "kid friendly", but maybe that's just my take on it.

FILLISE, it really shouldn't be that hard to get in more protein. 2.5 ounces of plain chicken breast alone has 22 grams, cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, BEANS, there's a ton of REAL FOOD that you can eat without having to do a protein powder. I have to find the page in Arnot's book where he mentions PP. Once in a while, okay, but not on a daily basis unless it's really absolutely necessary. I'll try to get the info posted this weekend for you.

LIZ, that's odd, how can it show 24 and then say 0 on the fiber???:?:

VIV, sorry, I surely can't help you with your question on the BCP's. I haven't used those in 20 years! BUT, as far as the hormones go, you probably are retaining water-like I am now (I hope). Be patient, it will go back down. I ALWAYS have a gain right before my TOM comes rolling along.

TV, hope you're feeling better. I'm one of those people that rarely get cramps-guess I'm lucky in that respect. Couldn't imagine having to be in bed from something like that. I do get achey from time to time, but hardly ever cramps. And to boot, that wonderful time you had with your dentist-my goodness girl, you are a glutton for punishment, aren't you?!? Feel better!!!! Thanks for posting the recipes, sounds yummy!

AMSER, glad to see you checking in-of course you're still a part of the board-people ask about you. We all understand tough times with family. Just do your best to come on the board and give us a holler when you are able. I wish you the best with your GM.

MUSIC, CONGRATS! Lost that mystery weight PLUS! And to boot, another inch-awesome!

NASCAR, let me know if you make the bars, and you honest opinion;)

Gotta run, not sure if I'll get back on tonight or not, otherwise, tomorrow sometime. Kids don't have school here tomorrow, so will be running with them, but will find time to check in.

BYE!

OK - I'm feeling a little better this afternoon and wanted to post something that wasn't completely negative sounding!!

It is absolutely gorgeous in N. AL today. I think I'll ask my Mom if she wants to go walking this evening... I normally don't try to walk because I have feet problems, but I got some new shoes that really feel good and I think they might allow me to walk without much discomfort afterwards. If not, I will definately get back on the stepper and abdoer tonight!!!

Deb - you are lucky!! I haven't always been this way, in fact, I never had any problems at all until after my 2nd child was born!! I have always had a little cramping, but nothing that put me down like yesterday!! I have never, EVER, had to stay in bed because of TOM!! I hope this isn't a new phase I'm moving into. It is hard enough being the only woman in a house with 3 totally dependant males without being out of commission for any amount of time each month!!!

Viv - didn't mean to give you the chills. I have a great dentist, but some things can't be made pleasant! The "laughing gas" gets me through the rough times. I wish I could keep a supply of that stuff at home!

BusDeb - where are you?

Everyone else - HELLO!

Here is something I got today from a friend that really helped to pick me up:

I AM THANKFUL FOR ......

THE PARTNER WHO HOGS THE COVERS EVERY NIGHT,
BECAUSE HE/SHE IS NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

THE TEENAGER WHO IS NOT DOING DISHES
BUT IS WATCHING TV, BECAUSE THAT MEANS
HE/SHE IS AT HOME AND NOT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES THAT I PAY, BECAUSE IT
MEANS THAT I AM EMPLOYED.

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY,
BECAUSE IT MEANS THAT I HAVE BEEN
SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO
SNUG, BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH
TO EAT. ;)

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME
WORK, BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM IN
THE SUNSHINE.

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING, AND
GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING, BECAUSE
IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME.

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING I HEAR ABOUT
THE GOVERNMENT, BECAUSE IT MEANS
THAT WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

FOR THE PARKING SPOT I FIND AT THE FAR
END OF THE PARKING LOT, BECAUSE IT
MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING AND
THAT I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION.

FOR MY HUGE HEATING
BILL, BECAUSE IT
MEANS I AM WARM.

FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH
THAT SINGS OFF KEY, BECAUSE IT MEANS
THAT I CAN HEAR.

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING,
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY, BECAUSE IT
MEANS I HAVE BEEN CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF IN THE
EARLY MORNING HOURS, BECAUSE IT
MEANS THAT I AM ALIVE.

AND FINALLY.......

FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL, BECAUSE IT
MEANS I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE
THINKING OF ME.
(SEND THIS TO SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT,
AND WHEN YOU THINK YOUR LIFE IS SO
BAD, READ THIS AGAIN.)

Poor me- I just spent about half an hour posting then had it disappear into cyberspace when I tried to open another netscape window to check a factoid!! This board has been so busy last couple of days, it's taken all my time to read it and post a "hello" let alone individual replies. Plus I've been trying to journal everything that goes into my mouth and it sure takes a lot of time reading labels and doing math to figure out what's in all of it. Took a quick look at fitday and didn't really like it- seemed awefully cumbersome, but my way isn't easy and probably won't give me the same info. Got tons of exercise in today, tho. In addition to my regular workouts, I played tennis for 2 hours and 2 of our group left early, leaving me and another woman to play singles. Whole lot more running than doubles!

Deb- Thanks for posting the article on fat-insulin-hormes, etc. I like knowing all the details, even if it doesn't really make any difference in what we do. The carob pecan cake sounds yummy- have a piece for me cause I still don't trust myself baking legal goodies. The illegal, I know I can't touch, so (so far) I don't. But legal would be a whole different ball of wax!

Rosalie- Enjoy your tulips next spring. I remember they and dafs were my salvation in TO when I thought NOTHING would grow. My first year there, I tried to garden like I still lived in Delaware, and everything died, and I was so depressed. Seeing those big red and yellow tulips coming back always made me happy. Mine always seemed to last about 3 years, then I'd have to replant. We had a big circular drive and one particularly bad winter, the city decided we didn't need that big a driveway and used 1 end of it for a snow dump. We still had a big pile of snow at the beginning of June and I have really funny pictures of me and my dd as a baby in bathing suits in front of the garden in front of the snow mountain.

TV- Sounds like an AWEFUL day! I'd hide under the covers too. I used to get cramps like that regularly after kid #1 was born. Walking, if you can convince yourself to move seemed to help. So does anaprox. Turned out I had endometriosis...

Sparkle- glad to see you back, sorry the BFL wagon has been bumpy for you. I've been trying to incorporate his exercise regime without the food regime. Started lifting much heavier weight (gradually, gradually) and really upping the intensity of my cardio workouts. I'm not up weightwise, but I'm not down either. Hopefully that's the workouts. My arms are starting to look great, and legs, it's just in between that's so depressing. Found a great site I think you would enjoy, that I mentioned a few days ago, about women and lifting, but here it is again:www.stumptuous.com. Very informative, and FUNNY! I guess my butt's looking better too since I just bought a pair of size 10 pants that actually fit. When I started this, my 16 jeans barely zipped! I wish the front or me looked like a size 10.

Solshine- hope the phone is ringing!!! I got that book you mentioned (Strong Women...). Certainly all makes sense from the poking thru it I've done, but I think the SB food WOL works a lot better than their "sensible diet". I just know eating that way would turn my back into a carbo crazed food junky. But the exercise part sure makes sense.

Tree-I found a Liz Claibourne outlet store that has rock bottom prices and their petite sizes are the same clothes as the regulars and Elizabeth larger size line. At 5'3", I never have to hem those clothes, and they are not full of buttons and bows. Unfortunately, if you don't have an outlet, they are pretty pricey, at least by my underemployed standards. But they do last forever, and are kind of classic. Course it would be nice if I stayed the same size long enough to wear them forever:lol:

Hello everbody else- have fun this weekend race and FB fans- I'm off to watch college lacrosse at George Mason University(Fairfax,VA). It's "fallball" season, doesn't really count. The coaches get to try out their freshman recruits and juggle positions, so don't know if dd will play much since she's a sophmore. But it sure will be nice to see her!

Gotta go before this post disappears too.

I know Microsoft is evil ;) but I've always had better luck with IE than Netscape and I do a LOT of web surfing. Seems like I always have problems with Netscape. So you might want to consider switching, or using both to access stubborn sites.

The Microsoft is evil was rather tongue-in-cheek. I would DEFINITELY use no other programs than Word and Excel, both of which get high raves from this computer addict. Outlook is a pretty good program too.

To answer your question about shopping, yeah the "fat people's" section is VERY depressing. Even the "on the rack" so called fashions just die a horrible death in sizes 14 and 16. I have only stopped being humiliated by the experience of shopping at size 12 and 10. You would think that with the number of ahem, "healthy size" women in this country clothes designers would get a clue and sell something remotely wearable at a decent price. One of my many aspirations growing up was to be a fashion designer, and if I were, (and didn't have five hundred other things going on) I would make elegant, COMFORTABLE and stylish clothes in natural fabrics for large women.

Tree
What is an embryologist exactly?

We had this hot French chick hanging around with us for a bit. She confirmed that it's considered "gauche" in France to snack, and often if you visited somebody's house you wouldn't be offered food, an act that would be unthinkable in America.

Debbie
I read the article "how fat cells work" several times and really appreciate the information. It was interesting to note that it takes much more energy to store carbohydrates and protein as fat than it takes to store plain fat. I mean it makes perfect sense, but somehow the thought never hit home (especially when faced with something Mexican covered with melted cheese) ;).

Anyway, although nobody knows for sure, I disagree with the theory that no new fat cells are created after puberty. I'm pretty sure the number of fat cells don't go DOWN, but I think if the cells run out of storage space they can definitely make new ones. How else do people get to be 800 pounds?
As for falling off the BFL wagon-I personally think you try to do too much and it just overwhelms you-try taking it easy, you're too young to push yourself like this, look what happens every time you do. I can see it happening over and over, can you?? Hmm well cough, guess it's something to think about. ;) Actually, I don't generally push myself THAT hard. Since I'm naturally lazy yet ambitious, I tend to find the easiest and most efficient way to do things. And Body for Life at least on the exercise portion is a lot easier than what I used to do. And takes less time. The food part, well I haven't been that strict in sticking to it anyway. I think my problem (and yes, I know that I have one. A big one.) is not so much pushing myself too hard, but putting too much mental energy into obsessing about my body and my weight once I do start pushing myself at ALL. So my brain gets fried after a few weeks and I want to go back to the peaceful oblivion of not worrying, not writing things down, not caring.

All my life my "diet" has been either off or on, either clean or filthy, either right or wrong. All or nothing. I've come a long way but my mentality still has roots in those days.

The most important thing I need to do right now is get my exercise/food/housecleaning/job down into a routine that WORKS and just DO it, day in and day out, and not worry about it. Easier said than done.

Marie
Your tulips sound like they will be lovely. No unfortunately I don't think that cake would disintegrate under ANY circumstances...lol. It's more like an omelet than cake. ;)

SolShine
Congrats on the inches progress. Going down a shoe size is wonderful. I thought I would get back to a 7 but looks like I never will, my feet are just bigger from going barefoot. But I no longer have to get extra double wide 8s!!!! The first time I bought a REAL pair of running shoes, I automatically asked the salesgirl for a wide size. She looked at my feet and said, "You don't look like you take a wide." I was so shocked. I put on a NORMAL pair of running shoes and they were comfortable as air from the get go! Amazing!

I don't know if I've talked about it here but I've always been very self-conscious about my very large calves. (We Japanese call them "daikon legs" fat, short and white, just like the turnip!) I avoided doing any weight training on my lower body for several years because I didn't want them to get any bigger. Well, I was frightened to death but when I started following the BFL routine I did exercises specifically for my calves. Was surprised as heck when I measured my calves last week and they were down 1/2 inch to 14 1/2!! Random cheer for myself. ;)

I think that's what I was trying to say about thin people, that when you see them eating an ice cream cone on the street that's usually not the whole story. I seriously doubt they will be sneaking the whole box of Drumsticks at night as I've been known to do.

I appreciate the advice about working on one thing at a time. (And I have so MANY things to work on) and more important for me is valuing myself despite my imperfections....I tend to let the least little thing discourage me. :(

TV
((((hugs))))) I'm having a pretty bad couple of days too and it's not so easy to just snap out of it. But this will pass. Thanks for the "optimistic" verses!!!

Mel
Thanks for the link. I think the "weightlifting links and lessons" page is actually a link on the resources page of my website. I agree the exercise routine of BFL is much easier than the food routine, although it's still a challenge. But when I see the before and after pictures the program is very motivating.

Great job on the size 10!!! You have made some amazing progress. I have only ONE pair of pants that don't badly bag in the ***....definitely wish my front were smaller too.

Hi Everyone,

I know that it has been awhile since I visited here, just needed to get a reality check, but i am back. Things sre going good for me. I have joined the local YMCA and started going to water areobis 2-3 time a week, boy do I love this. It is so much fun and you get to work out with other people around. I think that i am very luckly in that there is a great instructor that i really like and she makes you work every musle in the body. Then on the nights that I don't go there I am still walking atleast 3,8 miles- sometimes 5 miles.

My plateau has finally broken, but don;t ask me why. I had been up and donw with the same five pounds for something like 10 weeks. But I feel that I am now starting to lose again.

Ok here is a question....we can hava Special K cereal, right!!! Why, isn't that made from rice????

I am very excited...we have a big health food store that opened here in town this week, I think this is the biggest one i have ever seen. Ibut I haven't seen reallyall that many) i will be there tomorrow to see what goddies they have.

WEll, now that i am back, I hope to stay, i will try to get into this, but i have not mastered the ast of remembering everyone name ect, but you all will be in my prayers for success in your journey with weight loss.

Got to go get ready for ER, will check in tomorrow,
Have a great eveieng.

Can you believe - 3 nights in a row?!? I think it will snow here in South Louisiana! :dizzy:

DEB: I know, I know....I could have been at goal weight for months now had I stuck to the plan. But, I really think what set me back into my evil  emotional eating ways was that last miscarriage. If you remember, I had lost 60 pounds and then I got pregnant again. Since that 5th miscarriage - I've gained about 45 of those pounds back. I know that's horrible! But, no excuses here - I just fell off the wagon and then I just can't get back on! That wagon keeps rolling over me! I think I've filled quite a few pot holes by now! I need to do this for myself! Every day I start off saying "I'm gonna be good today" but I can't make it passed 10 am! What is that?!?! I'm horrible! If I can make it through a week OP I do ok - shoot - right now - I'd be happy with a day! It's such a horrible feeling - to feel so unsuccessful! :(

Thanks for all the computer tips. I'm actually gonna look into that cable thingy - I heard it's much faster. I thought we didn't have it here yet but my dad told me today that we do.

TREE: In your line of work - do you work with people like me - multiple miscarriages? Or should I say the medical term - habitual aborters - such a horrible term. If so, HELP! :?:

Well, ladies - once again - I'm off to do some school work - this year is killing me!

I posted on the wiegh in board that I have lost 3 pounds this week. I am doing the happy dance over here :spin: I am very pleased with that lose. That makes a grand total of 18 pounds lost. :)

OK--the scale is a little bit to the left of the 236. I'm not ready to call it 235.5 yet--but the needle is definately to the left of the number. I'll let you know.

Last night was kind of shaky. I was out and didn't feel like cooking supper. I really missed the convience of fast food. I didn't want the food itself--I was just longing for the days when I could pull into whichever FF place was closest and get supper without a second thought. I came home and had cheese on low-fat triscuits for supper. I guess that's what passes for FF for me these days!

Liz--I'm doing fitday too and it is really helpful for helping me know what "normal" food consumption is. Your fat intake is high--I know I saw the same sorts of the things when I first started fitday. Try to keep it around 30% of your total calorie intake. I don't plan on doing fitday every day for the rest of me life--just until I feel comfortable that I know what 1400-1600 calorie consumption looks like on my plate!

Deb--yeah, I've been distrustful of the protein powder too, but I'm having a hard time getting enough protein in my diet without adding too much fat! I can only eat so much chicken. This seems especially important since reading your post on the relationship between insulin and fat because I was reminded that it is protein that triggers the substance that burns the fat stores in the body! This morning I had a myoplex low-carb drink. They taste OK and seem to be a good protein boost--esp first thing in the morning. If I can get a good high protein/low fat hit in the morning, the rest of the day seems to go much better!

BOB--GO VOLS!!!!! I'm on your side tomorrow--with a vengance! Maybe together we can pull them through so they can beat the **** out of that evil evil Tide. You aren't in prison or anything for the bed incident are you:?:

VIV--I know what you mean about PMS and BCPs. Myself, I'm living for menopause! I had my annual exam yesterday. I'm off the BCPs again--will see how that works. I have always suspected that I have endrometriosis. I have all the symptoms. My DR seems to think so too, but everything we try leads to other problems. So menopause seems like my only salvation!

BusDeb--WoooHooo on the 3 lbs! You go girl! I"ve been shopping in the large size section for so long that I've forgotten what regular size clothes looks like! I do remember 10-15 years ago when it was even worse then than it is now! Atleast designers like Liz Claibrone and Tommy Hifiger have discovered us!

LA--I had some Special K this morning--it better be ok! I know it is made with rice, but it seems to have a moderate glycemic hit. Now that it is cool, as soon as I finish this box I'm switching to hot oatmeal in the mornings.

NASCAR--have fun at the race! I'll be looking for you on TV!

Sparkle--You have made a lot of progress since you first came to us. You seem less frantic (dare I say even obsessed) and more focused in your approach to yournutrition and health. I think that is significant progress!

I Hope everyone else has a good day!

OK, I am determined today to have a better outlook!!!

I have promised the boys to take them to pick out their Halloween costumes tonight. That should be really fun. I'm taking them to Party City and they have some of the coolest halloween decorations and stuff around!!

My gums dont' hurt as much today. I still look like a bunny rabbit when I smile too big!! I can't wait until my real crowns come in!! I have a habit of, how do I say, of sucking air between the space in between my front teeth - kinda to be sure nothing is stuck there.... I can't do it because these temps are made together and there is an indention, but no space!! It makes me feel like I need to floss between them, but I can't!!! Its driving me bananas!!!:dizzy:

Deb - you know, I believe that I remember you saying that when you lost those last few pounds unexpectedly, that you had not been drinking those shakes or milk or something like that. Sounds like you have added them back in lately - do you think that could be why you have added those lbs back? Just a thought, you really need to remember that you are under goal, so no need to get upset!! Be happy!!! ;)

BusDeb - I love the bus you attached.

Thanks for the inspiring words everyone!! I think I'm coming around a little today!!

Here is a good quote for all of us:

Good Friday Morning!

I admit that I haven't read any posts so I apologize to anyone that I need to send a special message to that I have neglected.

I have had an exhausting week. Ladies' night was great! Everyone had fun as far as I could tell. It has taken me all week to get over the stress and fatigue.

I have been exercising like a good girl, running and lifting weights. I am dressed now to run to the gym for a workout and run back home.

I hope that everyone had a good WIW. I was up another pound to 155.5   :( But I weighed again on Thursday and was 154.5 which is what I weighed last week. Oh well, I will just keep on doing what I'm doing, nothing seems to be making a difference!

Will attempt to read and post again this afternoon or evening. Take care everyone!

Peace,

Hi all! Yesterday was great....until I went to the daycare to pick up my 2 yr old. She screamed all the way home. Checked her temp when we got there and it was 102. I'd scream too. Took her to the dr. with a bladder infection. She's home with her daddy today and feeling much better. Didn't get home from the drs office till 9:30 though. Just glad our pedi clinic has someone there at night.

Bus Deb: Congrats on the 3 lbs. I would like to drop a few like that. Of course, that chocolate frozen yogurt I had last night for comfort food after the dr office didn't help any.

Fillise: I know what you mean about fast food. Sometimes I'd just like to be able to drive thru and grab something.

Gotta go. Kiddos coming to class.

Good afternoon, all. Got my third "heavy weight" workout day in this week, sure is different from lifting light. I'm not sure why I'm doing this, but it just seems the next logical step for me. Feels good so far. Then the usual 1 mile run to keep the dog happy, followed by 2.5 mile fast walk. The weather here is gorgeous, would have liked to stay out all day, but had to go to work for a few hours, then back home to my feverish 11 year ds who always seems to feel better around 1pm when its too late to go to school. But he really did have a fever this am, so I never would have taken him anyway.

Music teach- You're lucky to have a ped. at night. I have to play "dialing for doctors" at 8 am as soon as the office opens. It's such a pain listening to a busy signal and hitting redial constantly. Hope your little girl is better soon. Nothing worse than sick babies- you feel so helpless.

BusDeb- Good going on the 3 pounds! You're gonna need another new pair of jeans soon:lol: BTW, I like your little bus too.

Fillise- Just nudge that scale needle a little more! must feel great to see it move after staying dedicated for so long. I need to go back and give fitday another look- so many other people seem to get good info from it. I know from just journaling and trying to figure it all out myself that my fat is also too high, but I don't know where to cut it since I'm only getting 1100-1400 calories in. I have problems w/ the convenience of fast food too- what I have been doing is ordering the grilled chicken sandwiches from either BK or McD , hold the everything except the chicken, ask them to put it in a nugget box and give you a plastic fork and knife. Then order a garden salad and Caesar dressing or no dressing, w/ a glass of water and you are all set. They give you weird looks, but that dowsn't bother me. Just DON'T get near anybody ordering french fries! That good old greasy, salty smell is enough to puddle me in my shoes:( Though I try to visualize what would happen internally, and that is usually enough of a turn-off to counteract the tempting smell.

Solshine- Did you really go down a shoe size? I hadn't even thought of that! I just assumed that once the ligaments stretched, etc, that's the way they would stay, since I went up a 1/2 size with each kid. I sort of hope mine stay the same- I've got lots of shoes since that was the one thing that wasn't depressing to buy. Also I'm a lot older, so maybe foot shrinkage is not in my future.

Liz- I eat a lot more protein than you and I'm only 5'3"- I think you need to try to fit more in.
My solutions include throwing chick peas in everything, tuna(waterpacked and drained real dry) rolled up in a big romaine leaf or flatbread w/ lettuce, cooked egg whites with only 1 yolk scrambled....

Sparkle- glad you are seeing the results you want on your legs. I have the opposite problem. That's the only part of my body that has long stringy muscles w/ no fat. Years of running maybe or just genetics. I'm working really hard on my calves to build muscle! I kinda look like one of those popsicles with the two sticks:lol:

Deb- Good luck with your hair on Monday. Whenever I try something or someone new, I feel like a freak! Right now I'm trying to grow out the very expensive blond highlights I've been shelling out for for years. I'm deluding myself that it still looks the same cause the gray looks really blond:D I'm afraid that when it all grows out around Christmas, I'll find out what color my hair really is and then I will feel really OLD :( But I can always pick a new color! I'd hate to have a new body and then gray hair to go with it all of a sudden.

TV- You sound better today! Hope your weekend is good despite the teeth.

Hello to everyone I missed, I'll be AWOL probably the weekend. We leave at the crack of dawn for a lacrosse tournament in Fairfax, Va. I can't wait to see my dd, I miss her and she seems to be having a rough time at school this year. Wish she was still 5 and I could hug her and make it all better. I'll take my big cooler filled w/ fruit and vegies and lunch meats and try to stay OP!

I am really going to work on it. Who would have ever thought I would be fighting to get more calories:^: It seems crazy! But I know it is true but I am just having trouble doing it.

I had a 3 egg omelette for breakfast this AM with some bacon and cheese in it. One of my SGWW buttermilk biscuits.Nuts at snack, steak AND refired beans with my noon salad. Now I have to figure out something for this afternoon:dizzy:

Tree:did you check your % of carbs, protein, and fats? I noticed on my fitday journal, that I don't consume enough protein. SB suggests 40% carbs, 30%protein, and 30% fat. They say that eating protein stimulates glucagon production, which mobilizes STORED fat into glucose for USE. I tend to eat more carbs. Just a side note, when I tried the Atkins low-carb diet, I wasn't hungry AT ALL. Once the carb cravings were gone, I had to make myself eat. I lost 2#, only reached mild ketosis, AND I felt terrible.

I think everything is in the right percentages but I know I need more protein. It is so hard when you constantly think LOW FAT LOW FAT. ugh.

I guess I tend to lean towards cheese for my protein instead of lean meat. Maybe add beans to my meals?

I am trying not to get frustrated here :?:

BusDeb--It’s a tradition thing! It’s not YOU that are evil--it’s the tradition of hating Bama by your old biggest rivals. We Gator fans have to go through that too. We are the team everyone loves to hate, because, like y’all, we have lots of W’s and few L’s. So even though Bama is struggling right now and for the past several years, the tradition is still there. Hope it is an exciting game!! :) BTW, I have watched some really exciting games between the Gators and Bama, especially after the Conf. championship game was put into place.

MelIris--Yeah, that’s a good sig. :)

I got a call from Tree. She’s here in Orlando and so we will meet tomorrow night for dinner. I’m taking my 28 year old daughter with me, so the 3 of us should have a good time.

Thanks for checking in. Glad to hear you’re past your plateau now. My boss takes water aerobics and really likes it. To me the health food store is like a toy store! Hope you stick around.

Missy
Don’t claim to understand anything about miscarriages. But I do understand about emotional eating ! Sometimes when I’m beating myself up for not being at goal yet I forget how much progress I’ve made. So despite my lack of understanding my sympathies to you.

Bus DebI am not like Debbie I show off my legs and arms. I a hussy that way I guess......LOL LOL LMAO!!!! Good for you girl. I spent my teens in too tight jeans and long shirts to cover the bulge, and my early twenties in long skirts, long sleeved polyester shirts (IN HAWAII!!) in ONLY black, cream, olive or brown (I somehow became very afraid of color).

So when I lost some weight, but was still quite hefty, I went way overboard with the bright colors, spaghetti straps and short skirts! I was quite the hussy too, hehe. So finally I started to get a more professional image at least at work but I love my little dresses. Now I normally wear khakis and a shirt with a jacket (and my leather boots) my uniform. But today my boss is out of town so I’m wearing my hoochie clothes again. ;) This is a picture from last year but of what I’m wearing today:

http://www.shapeshakers.com/pics/600_5.jpg

BTW, it’s interesting how differently people treat me based on the way I dress and act. (this is a tangent) for example, we have one client whom I hadn’t met in person at the time, but with whom I often talked on the phone. Every time he would talk to me he would go on and on with these really dirty jokes and other sexual innuendos and I didn’t quite know how stop it. But now, two years and several sales licenses later, without my ever saying a word to him he treats me totally professionally. (end tangent)

Anyway your little bus avatar is really cute. I missed it, are you a bus driver?

SusanYou seem less frantic (dare I say even obsessed) and more focused in your approach to yournutrition and health. I think that is significant progress! Thanks for the feedback, Susan. Sometimes I forget that people are paying attention to the changes in me even without commenting. So it’s nice to hear. I think I was, well yes obsessed, but also a bit dogmatic when I first started with Sugar Busters. But it’s really hard to be dogmatic around here while eating sugar at the same time....LOL. So it’s no surprise I’m pleasanter...hehe. I do plan to get back to the totally no sugar lifestyle but I have some more pressing issues to deal with before getting back to the “forbidden” food concept, which tends to drive me nuts. Meanwhile, I keep hanging around here, sometimes feeling a bit out of place, because it really helps me to stay in touch with such a motivating and supportive bunch of ladies.

TV
Eek to your dental woes!

Froggie
I feel your frustration especially after the spectacular progress you’ve made. So hang in there....good luck!

Tina
Hope the baby feels better. :(

Mel
I did light weights with many reps for a long time with no noticeable results. As soon as I switched to doing maximum capacity the results were very fast...fewer reps and obvious results in only two weeks.

Have fun at the tournament!

Mary
Have fun on vacation!

GatorGal and Bus Deb
When I went to Alabama I got off the plane and this big crowd of people immediately asked me, “AUBURN OR ALABAMA????”

Okay not quite like that but similar. Football is a foreign language to me but I still remember the old rivalry.

So after two days of my concentration levels being at an all time low I actually put in a whole morning of brisk work and may get out of this latest funk with some of my buttocks left unchewed. So now ten minutes past my legitimate lunch hour and so I must go.....

(started this this morning)

Good Friday Morning!

I'm totally bummed out:( It's STILL raining here-it's been non-stop since yesterday evening, but rained on and off yesterday as well. Can't get in my walk-this sure sucks! I don't walk on Saturdays, and this would be 3 days in a row. The only hope I have is that it will stop and I can muster enough willpower to go later:mad:

Volunteered at Michael's school last night. The 11th graders get PINNED for the IB program, it's a big deal, they dress in "business attire", the families come and each family brings a food dish that represents their heritage-so many interesting foods-not ONE did I touch. I did it last year and didn't touch a thing either - next year, Michael gets pinned, maybe I'll try something then:s:

Today is FRIDAY FACTS and I wanted to get these tips on how to better handle HALLOWEEN when it rolls around:

The Nibbler's Survival Guide To Halloween

What's the scariest thing you'll see this time of year?

Forget the spooky masks and the Dracula fangs. It's the mountain of Halloween candy sitting there, tempting you. Every grownup knows that those treats can really trick your determination to eat sensibly. Candy is scary because it is packed with calories and fat and short on vitamins, mineral, protein, fiber and other nutrients.

Let's face it: We are heading into the dangerous season between Halloween in October and Super Bowl Sunday in January. That's when many people can add as much as seven pounds because of party foods and celebrations.

So what's a nibbler to do? How can you keep the trick–or–treating children happy while you refrain from snatching a handful of candy? A pound here, another pound there. It all adds up, ruining the waistline and the best intentions.

Here is some timely advice, just in time for the trick–or–treat hoards at your doorstep:

BUY LATE, BUY LESS:

Even though the grocery stores start pushing Halloween candy before the 4th of July, there's no reason to buy it early. The longer the candy is in plain view, the more tempting it is. Buy the candy just a day before the major haunting. When you do shop, buy less than you did last year so you will have fewer leftovers. Those big family–sized bags of goodies simply scream, "Eat me now!" So what if you run out of candy during the Halloween onslaught? Toss a few nickels and quarters into the children's sacks. (Have you ever known a kid to turn down money?)

BUY WHAT YOU DON'T LIKE:

Buy only the stuff that turns you off. The quickest way to kill the nibbling urge is to take away the enjoyment. One friend gives out individual packages of Sweet Tarts, her least favorite candy. "Of course," she adds, "it would be a disaster if I had M&Ms or Snickers. I'd eat more than I would give away. So I don't even stock them."

NIBBLE LIKE A BUNNY:

Keep a constant stock of raw vegetables and fruits handy. As you dole out the candy bars, chomp down on a carrot stick. Yes, we know it isn't like eating a chocolate bar but your hips will show the difference.

LOOK FOR ALTERNATIVES:

One way to keep from consuming Halloween candy is not to buy it at all. Rather, hand out alternatives such as pencils, decorative erasers, tiny bottles of bubbles, stickers and inexpensive trinkets. Hey, how about coins, all kids love a little money!

DONATE THE LEFTOVERS (AND WE DON'T MEAN BRING IT TO THE OFFICE):

Every year, it's the same ritual. People don't want to be tempted by candy at home, so they bring it to the office –– where they are still lured to nibble at their desks. Instead, make it an office project to donate everyone's leftover candy to a school, a homeless shelter or a food pantry that serves the poor. These candies will be a welcome treat to many people who cannot afford them.

WRITE IT ALL IN A FOOD DIARY:

Keeping a log of what you eat helps you to track the fat and calories for the day. Most important, record how you're feeling as you eat. Are you bored, stressed or angry? This helps you identify trends and patterns to your overeating.

REMEMBER MODERATION:

The world won't come to an end if you snare three chocolate kisses. But remember to balance the rest of your day's diet by eliminating the fat and calories from another part of your day's menu.

and MY OWN IDEA:

Keep focused on your goal. Keep in mind what's more important to you, the candy or the weight loss. If you know you can't stop with just one piece, don't even start. The candy will be around all year long, not just on Halloween. If you're able to resist it at other times, ask yourself, why do I need it now? Just because it's Halloween? Bad excuse.

FEEL FREE TO POST MORE IDEAS TO HELP US GET THROUGH HALLOWEEN IF YOU HAVE ANY!!

TV, hopefully, this TOM stuff will be short lived and you'll find yourself back to normal, without cramps again-it sure sucks, we as women always have to deal with pain-periods, child birth, MEN! Glad to hear your gums are better today. Honestly, I don't think the milk made any difference, I only put in drinking 2 shakes this past week, hasn't made a difference either way, at least not for me, others may have trouble though-it was just an idea.

MEL, if you tend to eat lots of the same stuff over and over again, journaling on paper is quite easy, which is what I do. Many of the foods I eat I know the nutritional numbers by heart and can spout them off in a second easily. Whatever works easiest for you! I had not 1 piece of the carob pecan bars for you yesterday, but 6 of them-you're better off NOT making them as of yet. It always amazes me how I've been able to control my chocolate eating, but when I make something SB LEGAL, forget it, I go hog wild! So far today, I stopped at one .7oz piece-the evening's still young though:s: Ummm, thanks for the boost for Monday's hair appt. - I truly wonder if I too may come out looking like a freak, better not! Please, want to talk abut gray hairs, my kids stood behind me last night while I was on the computer plucking mine out! OUCH! I'm going majorley blond!

MELF, if you get this message, hope you are having a great trip!!!!

GATOR, glad to hear you'll get to meet TREE. Is SOL going to meet up with her as well? Please, try to get a pic!!

SPARKLE, why don't you be a fashion designer and make pants in proportions like mens for woman-sure would make finding pants for petites easier-why the designers don't do this makes you wonder. Like a 34x28 pant, something to that idea-other than jeans.

LAMAP, glad to see your post!:D Happy to hear you broke that plateau, and happier to hear you didn't throw in the towel like so many do when they get stuck like that (like I use to do). I know the HFS you are talking about, I was at their sister store in Naples and got their ad. They do have the agave nectar there, and also, this month, they have some great deals in their ad-esp. the organic peanut butter-$1.50 for a 16oz jar, if you like PB, it's worth it! Hope you find some goodies there! SB says that yes, Special K is okay-I've never bought it though, so not sure what it's made of. It's one of the lower GI cereals I do believe.

FRUIT, I totally understand how hard it is going through multiplie miscarriages, I've had enough of those myself years ago. I also understand when things like that happen, no matter what others say to you the calmness and the feelings that foods give you are nothing that words can, at least at the time. I think it's more the fact that it's something we can control, whereas what is happening with a pregnancy is NOT something we can totally control. I mean that only in the respect that if someone was doing drugs, or alcohol and if affected a pregnancy, that would be something that could of been detrimental to the pregnancy and could of been controlled, but with a miscarriage, this is not the case. What I do believe is, is you need to look ahead and try to get yourself to a healthy weight so you can be in a healthier position to have a safe and healthy pregnancy. I can tell you only from personal experience that when I got preg. with Michael I was overweight and that in fact made me get gestational diabetes AND I broke my foot when I was 7 months pregnant. I was a high risk pregnacy and I'm sure my weight made it that way. So lets no longer look back to what's happened, but forward to the possibilities that lie ahead;) You'll do it, I know you can and you will!

LIZ, try to get the fat down to 30%, the sat. fat to 10%, carbs where great, protein way too low. It won't happen in a day, but just the fact that you are keeping track is helping you see how you can do better each and every day.

BUSDEB, CONGRATS!! 3lbs this week, that's awesome!!!:spin:

FILLISE, hey, lets call that 235.5! You deserve it, I'm sure it's accurate, just hop on the potty and I'm sure it will be there for sure! I'll get that info on protein done sometime this weekend, it's interesting. Do you like beans? Not only are they great for the protein, but for fiber, you can't beat them!!!

FROG, glad to see your post-miss you when you aren't around. You sound like you have a good time at these ladies night-I wish I had something like that to go to!

MUSIC, oye, your baby, 102 AND a bladder infection? I hope she gets better quick, I know those are painful, but to have a 2yr old have it, that's really bad.

Well, Lauren had to go to school this morning for a few hours to help decorate the auditorium for a Halloween show they are going to do, Michael had a Dr. appt at 9:30am - he's 5'7 1/2" tall, Dr. said if he continues on his same path he'll be 5'11"-that wonderful, considering how short I am! Picked Lauren up from school and took her to the mall, just got home a little bit ago-got undressed, I'm pooped, now Michael wants me to drive him to the movies to meet friends about a 20 minute ride one way-UGH! Just when I'm getting ready to unwind. Eli's not home yet-he's doing his chicken for dinner-maybe by the time I get back.

Gotta run-have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

ROCKY TOP...YOU'LL ALWAYS BE...HOME SWEET HOME TO ME.....GOOD OLE ROCKY TOP...ROCKY TOP TENNESSEE......ROCKY TOP TENNEESSEE!!!

OH BUS I didn't know you were an ALABAMA FAN.... This makes tomorrow much more meaningful... :s: Never be apologetic for taking a jab at any team represented here..most of us love it and can jab right back.... ;)

You see...GATOR should not :nono: try to speak for all.... I'm a TENNESSEE fan....TO THE BONE...I .....DO NOT .....love FLA, nor do I HATE FLA....I loathe FLA....It has NOTHING to do with their capibility to beat the snot out of Tennessee every year...yes they are good..but they have some of the NASTIEST FANS and PLAYERS that I have ever come in contact with....... Now GATOR...I didn't say all the fans were NASTY....just MOST OF THEM!!!
I also LOATHE THE CRIMSON TIDE BY far the rivilary between ALABAMA and TENNESSEE is much more INTENSE than the one with FLA...we've played each other consistantly for many many years...we've only played FLA consistantly for a few years...we used to only play them every five years...two on...then another five years..I would much rather play other teams in the SEC. In my own opinion...the schedules should be all shook up every now and then so everyone can play each other. :smug: SO, sorry, I'm not a CRIMSON FRIEND
either!!

SUSAN No, I'm here...staying away from the painter though. If I got too close, I wouldn't be responsible for my actions... YOU GO GIRL....THIS IS ONE OF THOSE GAMES THAT CAN'T BE PREDICTED....GLAD TO HAVE YOUR SUPPORT!!! Maybe we should get BELLE an ORANGE RIBBON for her little neck?

Sorry if some of you SEC gals take things too serious...I'm definately not afraid to state my case, and there is no one in NEYLAND STADIUM afraid of ANYONE or ANY TEAM..We take our FOOTBALL serious and stay behind our team whether they are winning or loosing..Our coaches do not encourage the team to play dirty and do not hesitate to punish those who take it on themselves to try. SO, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen...There is nothing wrong with GOOD NATURED ribbing where football is concerned, but down right DIGGING is JUST NOT NICE!!

GO VOLS!!!! BEAT BAMA!!

This is just a quickie to say Hi to y'all.

Viv - This is part of an article I found on the web about PMS and BCP's.

Oral contraceptives may either precipitate PMS or they may cover it up. Often women who have mild PMS will feel fine while on oral contraceptives but within months of discontinuing them will find a worsening of their PMS symptoms. Birth control pills (BCP's) are often used to treat PMS since their measured amounts of the female hormones "temporarily fix" the imbalance between estrogen and progesterone. However, in many cases PMS worsens after they are stopped. In some women PMS symptoms are even worsened when they are put on oral contraceptives. The synthetic hormones in the BCP are too strong and create an imbalance in these women causing them to have PMS the entire time they are on BCP's.. It's part of a long article on PMS. This is the link if anyone wants to check it out.

Have to run. The kiddies are calling.

Have a good weekend everyone. It's a working one for me.

Marie.

Hey - a quickie....

Susan and Rosalie - thanks for the PMS feedback. That article was interesting...wierd. I still get the homocidal tendencies:devil: prior and the weight gain....well, at least I'm not pregnant! :s:

Had a great, productive EBAY treasure hunting day today. Unfortunately, the guy who I borrow the digicam from had the nerve to go on vaco and take it with him  so now I have to wait till he's back - have a nice bunch of stuff up for bid, tho, so I can hold out!

Tomorrow we;re back at hockey tryouts - DS made it through round 1, now we have rounds 2 and 3 to look forward to :( . Luckily, DH will go tomorrow, but that means we still have to wait for the phone NOT to ring - if they call you, you're cut. You never really knwo at what time you can breathe easy. It's quite ugly. You want your kid to get positive reinforcement, but if the coaches see him the time he, say, slips or misses the puck, that counts. Ugly!

Gotta run,

I've been reading all the posts, but haven't had time for posting myselft til tonight. Well, I did post my results on WIW. Down 3 more pounds, but up again today. That water retention is sure a drag.

Deb: Don't you feel like a taxi driver? I'm so glad my DD has her DL. It's sooo much easier. She just forgets that we have a teen curfew in our little 'burb and she wants to stay out later than she's supposed to. Don't give up - the scales will head back down. Just keep knowing that you are doing all the right things. Our weight fluctuates greatly at times.

Liz: Keep working on the protein increase. Deb's given you great advice. I'll have to try fitday myself. After years of WW and JC, I have food portions ingrained in my head. It's hard to switch thinking and I find I'm not getting enough carbs, and I am finding that I really miss them when I don't get my veggies.

Busdeb: Yea!!!! 3 more pounds. Keep up the great losing.

Fillese: Woo Hoo! on the move to the left. My 'backs are playing Auburn nxt week. I'm headed up towards AR to see my brother for the first time in a couple of years. He lives in Huntsville. My SIL got her PhD at AL but we are all diehard pig fans.

Frog: Missed you.

Tina: So sorry about your baby girl. Hope she's better real soon.

BOB: You make me laugh. I can always count on you for a pick me up.

Rosalie: You are a great grandma!!! :)

Viv: Sorry 'bout the PMS troubles. I feel for you. Get grumpy myself but not homicidal ;) Good luck on the hockey tryout. We'll hope for no phone call tomorrow!

Sparkle: You are so cute! Love your sassiness. A teacher friend at school is a BFL person. She's had good success. She said last year for Christmas she wanted a "body by Phil" :smug:
Keep a positive attitude!

Melf: I know you are already headed north. Have a good trip. Be sure to wave to the east as you swing thru BigD on your way to Waco. That's my direction.

Sef: You okay????

Mel: Give DD a big {{{{{HUG}}}}}. I've never seen a lacross game. Is it as exciting as soccer?

Hope you ladies that I missed forgive me. I love reading about you all every day.
After a cool weekend last week and a very comfortable beginning of the week, we are headed back up on the temps. Now we'll be above average until Thrs. Of course, my youngest and I are flying up to Tulsa for the weekend on Friday, wouldn't you know it. I don't want to fly in the rain.

Have a great weekend everyone. I'm going to do some much needed house cleaning. Then I'm going to go buy a new digital camera.

BusDeb Don't you believe BigOrangeBabe one bit!!! :)
She really hates UF and Bama, not because of the fans but because Phat Phil is impotent when it comes to playing the Tide or the Gators. LOL!!!
Re. the fans, actually UF fans think the very same about the Vols, but I think the truth is actually that all fans are pretty much the same and it just depends on just who we encounter on the way to the stadium. Encounter a bunch of drunk rednecks, and, voila, all those school fans are bad. Encounter some polite gentlemen and, conversely, that school has some pretty nice fans. Once we went up to SC for the first UF game against S. Carolina after they joined the SEC. We beat the stuffing out of them. On the way out of town we stopped at a convenience store to get some gas. A USC fan asked us how we enjoyed our stay in Carolina and added that he hoped we had a nice time. So, I guess that was a nice fan. They are not so nice any more!! Now that they have a coach that can get them to win some games. LOL

Deb--I don't think SolShine is going with us. She and her DH have plans for this weekend. :-) Send me you home address to my e-mail. I don't have a scanner, so I'll mail you any pix I take so you can post them.

I think the rain you are getting in SOFLA is gonna move up here this afternoon and tomorrow. It is already dreary looking today. I have plans to work in the year this morning before it starts raining, so I guess I'd better get at it.

Hi all! Here's the scoop! Apparently I am going to live! Doctor's office left a message that I should be sure to keep my next appointment. That was it. So I called back and said I knew the EKG was abnormal and the message wasn't very informative. Nurse checked chart and said if there was anything dire the doctor would have had me come in immediately. So I guess I'm not dire.

I have been tired and just haven't spent that much time on PC, basically only to check my mail. I also wanted to be rested for yesterday. I had a grand time :D

A group called Young At Heart (YAH) went to NO to take the Natchez paddlewheel cruise down/up the Mississippi. There were 17 of us.

Then we went to the College Inn for eats after. It was really a lot of fun. The scenery along the river isn't that great, mostly industrial but I was sitting w/ a couple who were natives so they were telling me things above and beyond the cruise ship's spiel. It was a beautiful day. Not too hot. The best thing was the company! We seemed to mingle and no cliques were formed.

Of course, dinner was interesting, the waitress said they could not write separate checks; so 17 meals were on one bill! What a scramble when it came time to pay! But it worked out. I eat a lot of salads and wanted something different that I wouldn't make at home. I had only had an omelet for breakfast. So I had baked trout stuffed w/ crab and shrimp, sweet potato fries and broccoli au gratin. If there was a :nono: bread in the crab/shrimp mixture I didn't taste it or see it, so I survived. Had iced tea as my drink. It was a long day but fun!

I want to take it easy tonight as I am ushering at the community theater. It only seats 210 so I will not be on feet long. I was told you can even sit if necessay to hand out playbills.

I have read all the posts but I just cannot respond individuall to them all now. I thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. I love you all, you have been a lifesaver for me. You help me stay on track and forgive me if I stray! I will try to write more tomorrow!

Take care, sef

, doesn't bite his nails, or show his ARSE on the sidelines...
I think that it would be safe to assume that we AGREE TO DISAGREE!!! :s:

Good Morning to all!
We had our HS football game last night. I worked in the concession stand last night. We were not busy at all ....made for a very long night. We won....something ridiculous like 45 to 12. That was why we were not so busy ......not many ppl came out to watch the game because there was a better game just 3 miles down the road. Anyway we had fun in the concession stand ....I love being around ppl.
Today we head out at 2 pm for a Band contest. We don't play till 7 or so. I hope we do good.
Hubby just left for the Alabama vs. Tennessee game. My brother went also as well as my son and his g/f????? They should have a good day.

Big Orange Babe.........yes we miss The Bear like crazy sometimes. He was bigger than a legend. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when we got the news of his death.

Well no more time .....you all have a good day and a good weekend. I have to try and find something to eat tonight at the band contest. Maybe I will just pack my supper.
Bye all,

Good Saturday Afternoon Everyone!

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend. It's raining AGAIN her in SOFLA. Needless to say, garages sales sucked today. BUT, on a good note, I got my butt out of bed early this morning and got in my 4.5 miles before hitting the few sales that were out there. Did it in 49:49, not the best time, but surely faster than I've been doing recently. I figured, even though I never go out on Saturdays, I didn't want to have 3 days in a row not walking, so I better go-glad I did, I really felt good afterwards.

I didn't sleep good at all last night-I was up visiting the potty 7 times during the night-like the flood gates had opened, and mind you, not that I'm proud of this, but I hardly drank a thing yesterday-I think if I had, I'd have had more of a sleepless night last night:eek: Anyhow, the scale is back under the 125 mark, thank goodness-was 124.5 today - YIPEE! I'm hoping tomorrow will show another loss. I knew my patience would pay off, eventually!

Eli's SB ROAD SHOW went very well. He was quite surprised to have been nominated MANAGER OF THE YEAR, and though he lost to a mgr. from Naples, just the fact of being nominated was an honor. He won the LITERACY AWARD for collecting more books than any other in the state (thanks to Moi) and also an award called a BRAVO AWARD for all his hard work and dedication. NOW they want him to head some EVERGLADES clean up thing and SB will be doing a toy drive for the holidays to benefit the STARLIGHT FOUNDATION-so instead of books, I'll be looking for new toys at garage sales-even though it sucked out there today, I got a brand new Yahtzee game for 50 cents to start the stockpile!:D

BOB, I didn't know one of your talents was singing! What's new up in Sarasota???

ROSALIE, hope you had a good time with the GC and playing Shoots and Ladders, I know my Mother always says being around the GC makes her feel young-it's after she runs after the younger ones that she realizes how out of shape and how old she feels!

JRED, CONGRATS on the 3lbs, don't worry about the water retention, you know it's only temporary. You were right, the scale headed South today, as I'm sure it will do for you. DL? Michael KNOWS this isn't going to happen for a longgg time. Down here the driving age is 15 for restricted, 16 on their own. I personally feel that's too young and won't let him get his license (he's only 15 anyhow), both kids know how I feel and I'm adamant about giving in to my belief on this one-I guess I'm one of those mean Moms!!! It does get to be a pain once in a while to take him and his friends places (esp when I don't see other Mom's doing this), but I guess that's part of being a SAHM:D Can't say I'm not able to ***** about it once in a while, though!

GATOR, please give us all the details of your meeting with TREE. I'll e-mail you my snail mail address, though I have to find someone with a scanner to get a pic scanned. Let me know if TREE brings a camera. Weren't we suppose to get a cold front last week? I swear, I was waiting with such anticipation-it NEVER came!!!!:(

SEF, oh thank goodness, you're still alive and kicking!:D I hope that the Dr. does tell you WHAT was abnormal with your test results though. Sounds like you had a good time on the cruis and at dinner-nice to have a big group of people to do things with like that-def. keeps you YAH!! Try not to overdue it tonight, PLEASE!

BUS, how did the band comp. go today? Hope you placed well. :D

Eli's off today, but at SB:rolleyes: Hoping he'll get home at a decent hour so we can do something together this evening, though not sure what. I had a horrendous headache about an hour ago and felt like dying, but since taking those wonderful 222's, I'm feeling lots better and hoping to do something tonight. There's a movie playing at the
UofM theatre called RATCATCHER (UK film) that got 3.5 stars I'd like to see, so maybe that's something we can do.

Tomorrow we have my 4yr old niece's bday party-sister made it smack dab in the middle of the day-ruins the whole day, can't do anything much before or after. She loves SCOOBY DOO, got her the cutest SD slippers-now to find her the #4 train piece for the Precious Moments collection I started her when she was born-my Mother told me they were broken with the ones I had gotten for my other niece, Sterling, but she was wrong, sister said those were okay, so now, I have to get the #4 piece for her.

Hoping you are all enjoying your weekend. Will try to check in this evening!

Well today at the stadium just about did me in. It was homecoming against Lousiana Tech. You'd think after beating the number 1 team in the country last week that La Teach would be a piece of cake. But NOOOOOOOOO! We had to go into overtime to finally beat them 48-41.

Gator--apparently Florida wore out our defense last week--cause they didn't seem to be playing very well today! As Coach Tubbs says--we win ugly--but we win! Whew!

BOB--WOOOHOOO for the Volunteers! :D Seven years in a row over the evil evil Tide. Auburn remains the only unbeaten team in SEC play! I'm wiped out from 41/2 hours of screaming to pull Auburn through. Whew!

J RED--We come to your place next week. Anything can happen, but I'll be screaming WAR EAGLE! all the way!

BusDeb--Yes the Tide is evil and anyone who supports them is too:s: Well, I guess there may be some hope for you since you are a SB chick! I guess I have to fess up and say that the Crimson Tide is one of two teams I can never bring myself to root for. The other is the supremely evil and dastardedly UNC Tarheels. You may have noticed that when it comes to football season, I'm not prone to hyperbole or anything:D

I can only imagine what everyone else is thinking on the board. They'll probably start avoiding Saturday because of the crazy women. It will calm down in a few weeks!

Hey ---

Well, we made it through round 2 of tryouts today. Now I just need to go through the h*ll of round 3 tomoro while DH is enjoying an NFL game which DS would have gone to if he didn't make round 3....I really would like to slip me a little flask in my purse to get through it!:s:

J - lucky you don't get homicidal. The only beings to escape my wrath are my cats.....

Deb - tag sales around here were awesome! I told my fellow tagger that I cannot deal with this next week - I need a rest. It makes me crazy - I want to be first at each sale!

A friend got me the most amazing olive oil directly imported from the Kalamata region of Greece. It is deep green and fruity - unbelievable. My 11 yo chef son made some herb bread (non SB :o ) which we dunked in the oil that he seasoned with garlic and rosemary. I am training my sons to be able to cook because that makes them even more desirable as husbands! My DH can barely cook pasta.....:( .

Anyway, gotta go get 7 yo at a birthday party.

Hugs to all,
viv

Viv--Good for you on training your sons to cook. Do they know how to wash and dry their clothes? My son loves to cook and we occasionally go out to one of those cooking classes for a fun evening.

Fillise--I think the Tigers played their normal game tonight. Last week they were just unconscious. In tennis you call playing a perfect game and just being "in the groove" treeing. Auburn was way up in the trees last week, but this week they got back down to earth.

UT looked really powerful tonight. HaHa.

Debbie--I took 12 pix of us tonight. My daughter was with us, so she is in half of the pix. I'll get them developed next week and send them to you. Unless I should send them to someone with a scanner who can scan them in easier than you. Anyone? Anyone?

Tree is staying at a hotel about 15 miles south of my house. We went to a Publix to get film for me and some fructose for her. Then we went to a cuban restaurant, where we were all SB legal. My daughter is not on SB but all she ate was meat. She had a pile of french fried yucca on her plate but she didn't eat any of it. Tree had them leave off the potato from her order of pork tenderloin with black beans, and I had black bean soup, salad and grilled mussels. Yum. And we had a bottle of delicious Merlot.

Tree is really cute, like a little button. She is shorter than me, which makes her pretty short. She has beautiful eyes and lovely skin. She doesn't look heavy at all to me, but she, of course, knows what she needs to weigh. We had a really nice time.

BusDeb--My condolences on the game. Alabama really isn't evil. Don't you listen to them!! After all those years of constant wins, it's easy to pick on y'all now. Actually, I never really care who beats who on any given Saturday, unless the Gators are involved, and then I just hope for a win for my favorite team from UF! But in the rest of the SEC I don't really care all that much. I just figure if the 19 and 20 year olds who play for UF do their best and win when they should, we'll end up playing a few extra games at the end of the season. That is, it is up to the team to win and not count on another team to lose.

I do agree with BOB, that it is fun to follow sports. It's an added interesting dimension to life. Yep, BOB, I bet a few people on this board are thinking we've gone crazy or that we are gonna pound each other the next time we meet. LOL Ya just gotta understand football in the south, gals. It's not personal, it's tradition! Right BOB?!

Debbie--I'm burning up. It was supposed to rain her today but we did not get a drop. It is hot and muggy with hardly any breeze. Where is that cooler weather the weather man keeps talking about?

First of all, thanks for all your concern about Maggie. She's doing much better now.:) We spent the day with my MIL. We get along great and had a good time. She lives in a little town about 30 mi away that celebrates the sweet potato of all things. We made it to the parade to see lots of great antique cars, bands and Queen Yan 64!! MIL took us out to eat and I stayed mostly legal--boiled shrimp, salad, and baked sweet potato. I did give in a have a little ice cream. All in all, a good day.

Sorry I can't reply to everyone. It's been a looooong day.
Have a great Sunday!

Hi to all

See, I told you I would be back in a day or two. Had a good day today. Went to my first step class. Found out that I have two left feet. But I really enjoyed the class and look forward to going again. ANd boy did I ever work up a sweat!!!
Then after that and my nap I went to the new health food store here in town. I decided that once I got there I was hungry and it was already 2:00 and it would really mess up supper time if I waited to much longer. So I ordered a Thai Tuna Salad Sandwich on Sourdough bread. I really enjoyed it, brought half home for later. The store still is settling in, the manager was there and very nice and outgoing ( really good looking, too) and was asking for suggestions for other items we would like to see in the store.
I didn't buy to much cause I had other places to go, and didn't want things to spoil. But I will go back. BUt Deb, would you believe that they did not have agave nectar on the shelf. BUt I will give them a chance to fix that.
THings here are really going well, I hope that everyone can say that, but you all sound like you are so busy, but FOOTBALL season will do that to you, won't it. I kinda miss not having a kid to run all over town. (NOt that I want him to move back in. It is nice when he visits, but that is long enough) SOmetimes it seems like I have time on my hands and that is when I miss having a family and hate living be myself. I could go into a long book on my thoughts about all of this , but I will spare you all this time.

I wish everyone a healthy and wonderful Sunday.

Hope the weather improves. Maybe hubby will get you a treadmill for Christmas. ;) It's not the same as walking outside, but sure is convenient. Especially if you like to watch TV. ;) Thanks for the Halloween candy tips!!!! Keep those ideas for getting through the holidays rolling folks!!! ;) On fashion designs, if ONLY women's pants made some sense!

Jeanie
Thanks for the compliment! Yes I am determined to stick to the program, I find the exercise part very easy compared to what I used to do (I even finished a marathon although VERY slowly. ;) ) I'm having problems with food in general (more, MUCH more below) but feel I'm going to get it together after doing well today.

Shirley
Glad you're not going to die yet. ;) Dinner sounded yummy.

I lived completely by myself for a year (well 11 months) and liked having everything stay where I left it, and a clean apartment, but it was really difficult for me. So my sympathies. My roomie and I get along really well, and to be perfectly honest, I panic at the thought of living alone now. But you're probably not quite as worried about leaving the stove on as I am. ;)

Welcome to the Sugar Busters board! I have been all around the 'Net and believe me, this is the friendliest place around. So I hope you stick around and don't forget to post your bio. Guess most health food stores would have stevia but it tastes like laundry detergent to me so I don't look for it. Chris LOVES Splenda!!!!

Chris' Big Confession and How She Re-Converted to the WOE

As most of you know I've been having a hard time with food for a couple of months now. It's hard for me to find the balance between complete fanaticism and complete lack of control. So these past few weeks have been a humbling experience.

I've been feeling kind of yucky since Wednesday, but yesterday (Friday) I was practically immobilized with the "blahs." I even skipped my hip-hop class which I really enjoy. So I thought about it. There is nothing in my life that is going badly right now despite the stress of the stock market and world events. So I decided that it's the sugar I've been eating lately that's making me depressed. I've already discovered through painful experience that I'm particularly sensitive to sugar (meaning, it's my drug of choice) but when it comes to food, I forget quickly! And have been flirting with the drug more and more. I'm not saying that every overweight person or everybody in general is harmed by sugar or that it's "bad." It's just not good for me.

Now why was I, the anti-sugar fanatic, eating sugar to begin with you ask? Well, I was going through some tough times (even before Sept 11th and how did it get to be Oct 20th anyway) and thought I would be "kind" to myself and get some other things worked out before going back to having "forbidden" foods from my diet, a concept which always makes me overcompensate. I seemed to forget that what I eat is pretty much the basis for everything. Besides, having pizza or pie and ice cream with my roommate, which used to be a comforting tradition, seemed much more peaceful than my "health nut stuff." (Listen to the excuses rolling off my tongue.)

But as the weeks slipped by I got stuff done, even stuck to my exercise and food routine off and on but with the ever-growing addition of "treats." But it only got really out of control since Wednesday. So not cutting sugar from my diet proved to be a wrong path because I couldn't control myself with just a little.

My plan is to "force" the nutrition aspect back into place and then I should have the energy to deal with working out and the other million things I have to do, instead of working out and hoping that I'll "feel like" giving up sugar someday.

First step – three days of no refined carbs, nothing sweet like Diet Coke, Splenda or fruits either. Then slowly and carefully incorporate carbs, but not sugar.

I'm not sure I can deal with a "free day" anymore (from Body for Life). I tend to go nuts once I get started. So although I like the concept of a free day, I don't think I'll mess with sweets then either.

But I'm just worried about the next two days. Today went really well. I guess if it's going to have to be all or nothing for me I'll choose the restrictive way of eating because I'm absolutely determined to meet my goals.

Today's food (feel free to skip this part since it's boring)

1) Egg white omelet with one yolk and a bit of sausage and onion, plain oatmeal

2) Two boiled eggs with plain oatmeal

3) Ditto

4) Two squares of this cottage cheese bread I made (details below)

5) Ditto

6) Large serving egg/egg white vegetable souffle (no cheese) with brown rice

So I'm off to a good start, and definitely feel better! I cooked up a storm all afternoon (had to work this morning).

I did some experiments. I started writing stuff down in my lil notebook now when I make stuff up so I'll have recipes one day. What I've been trying to do is something baked with protein and carbs mixed together (like an energy bar but not sweet) so I can just freeze, grab and go. The result was bland, and moist like pudding almost. It wasn't bad for a base, but I have to think of some kind of flavoring.

Here's the start of a recipe:

Super-healthful anonymous baked good of some sort

4 eggs, separated
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 2%
2 cups water
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup old-fashioned oatmeal
1/2 cup wheat bran
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2/3 cup soy protein powder
Pam cooking spray

Equipment: blender, electric mixer, 9" X 13" or whatever pan (preferably glass), 3 mixing bowls

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Separate the eggs being careful not to get any of the yolks mixed with the whites. Refrigerate the whites. Put the yolks in a blender with the cottage cheese and blend until smooth. Pour into a bowl and mix with water. Wash blender and blend the oats and wheat bran into a fine powder. Mix dry ingredients (flour, oats, wheat bran, baking soda and powder, salt and protein powder) together in another bowl. Combine with wet ingredients (cottage cheese, egg yolks and water) with an electric mixer, beating for three minutes. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff but not dry. Carefully and slowly fold egg whites into the mixture until just combined. Spray pan liberally with Pam cooking spray and pour in batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or so, or until the top is browned and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

You will need to add some kind of flavoring to this stuff, I haven't quite figured out what yet. ;) I was trying to keep the fat as low as possible. But you get the basic idea.

Next I tackled the vegetable souffle. I put the brown rice in a layer at the bottom as a "crust" and used a lot of egg whites. The results were edible but questionable. Next time I'll go for a quiche type thing instead of a souffle.

So I'm back in business (that is making a hurricane in the kitchen while my poor roommate shakes his head sadly, trying to avoid the flying (whole wheat of course) flour.) And he was certainly happy to have the rest of the stromboli to himself!

Toodles for now,

Chris

Happy Sunday!

GATOR & BOB: Am I gonna have to step between the two of you?!? Put the claws away! Supporting a team and being a fan is one thing but y'all are getting down right nasty!!:nono: I know it's all in fun but I'm sensing some underlying feeling here - evil ones!

ANYWAY! TIGERS KICKED BUTT last night! GEAUX TIGERS! I actually didn't even watch the whole game - I fell asleep at the end of the 2nd quarter! How sad is that?!? What kind of fan am I?:o

I have to say that when we went to the KY game last weekend - everyone that we encountered was so nice. They went out of their way to introduce themselves, etc. We were even on a shuttle after the game and we were the only ones in purple and gold and they were nice. I was expecting to be treated nasty by at least a few people! Didn't happen! I have to say, I've witnessed quite a few LSU fans be outright ugly to some visiting team fans. That pisses me off so much because they give the whole bunch a bad name. Next time I think I'll tell the LSU fan something - I hate that crap!

DEB: I hear ya about looking to the future and trying to put the past in the past - but it's really hard some days - you know...but, I'm gonna try.

well, ladies got tons of school work to do - see yall later! GATOR & BOB - BE NICE!:D

Good Sunday Morning!

Woke up to heavy rains AGAIN! This is getting a bit old if you ask me. I've been on SB for 19months and just this past week I've missed my walks due to rain more than I have at any other time since last year. I got up wanting to go and heard it raining. Finally stopped around 9am and though wet, I got out there and did my usual 4.5 miles in 51:11-was hot and very humid out there, could cut the air with a knife it seemed!

On a better note, the scale is down today as well. Still up from my all time low, but down from yesterday and the past few days. Weighed in at 123.5. Actually, if I'd be able to not play DOOKIE HOUSER I'd probably weigh less-it's been days since I've gone, and this is from someone who gets at least 25grams of fiber a day-not sure what's up with that! I know I've been really bad with drinking my water these past few days, which can easily contribute to constipation, so going to try to work on that today.

I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but I bought some LAKEWOOD PURE CRANBERRY JUICE about 2 weeks ago. It's very expensive, but I bought it because an 8oz glass of juice has only 10grams of sugar-but the thing is, it HAS to be diluted. So last night I finally opened it up to try it. I took a glass, probably holds 16oz and added 2tbls of the cranberry juice, along with a packet of stevia-it was delicious! Those 2tlbs had just over 1gram of sugar for the serving. I'm going to make a few popsicles out of it. Just thought I'd share that little bit of food info:)

Eli is off today. Thought we'd go up to Broward for lunch before heading to my sisters house for my niece's party but he's going to church and I may just go up for a little while by myself to buy some fruits and veggies, though not totally sure at this time.

You SEC fans are really funny-I think you could all definitely out-do the men with your awesome spirit!!!:D

GATOR, you could get those pictures developed and have a copy done on the web so you can upload those pics on your own. I take mine to Kmart or Walmart and both have sites that they will upload the pics for you for 30 days so you can share them with others. I get one copy of the pictures and a copy on line for about $6.00, I think it is. Any thoughts? Sounds like you had a nice time with TREE, glad you were able to meet-wish SOL could of gone with you. I too am still wondering about this cold front-surely if you haven't seen it, I'm not going to see it down here!

ROSALIE, that's sweet of you to offer to scan the pics.:) We'll see what Gator decides.

MUSIC, glad to hear Maggie's doing better. Sounds like you had a good day with your MIL-love sweet potatoes, to me, getting a good sweet one is just like eating pie.

LAMAP, sounds like you had fun at your step class. I'd love to find a hip-hop class to take around here, but nothing without being a member at a gym is around-stinks. I'm sure the HFS wil get the agave in, like you said, it's still setting up, but I know the store in Naples has it and they are the same group of stores, so I'm sure it will be there soon.

JOHN, WELCOME TO THE BOARD! Yes, you did get on the right board. Takes a little getting use to navigating your way around, but as long as you can remember NEW REPLY and not new thread, you'll be fine. As you well know, everyone is so different that it's hard to say what is the norm when it comes to weight loss and how we view ourselves as losing weight. There are so many factors that figure in to weight loss that there is no way to predict how one will lose weight in what period of time. For women, we have more issues to deal with than men, but some of the same issues men AND women deal with that can affect weight loss are making sure you eat enough/don't eat too much; exercise; drinking enough water; have you come off another diet recently; I could go on, but you get the jest of it. What I do like to tell people is this, there is not one diet out there for everyone, unfortunately. If you follow this WOE 100% and give it some time and really don't see results, then I would say maybe this isn't for you. For instance-I've tried WW off and on since I was 12 years old. Each time they came out with a newer version, I'd find myself back there trying to see if it would work this time-the last time was about 2 1/2 years ago. I stayed on it 100%, never faltered. I lost, I think it was 17lbs ,and that was it, then I started to gain. My neighbor who was not walking anywhere near what I was doing and she was cheating kept losing weight and made her goal. I got pissed, went off the diet, ate back those 17lbs I had managed to lose PLUS gained another 17 or so more on top of that:eek: Again, WW just didn't work for me. SB works for me and with 19months under my belt as of tomorrow, I can see where I will be saying the same thing a year from now, and longer. So, I guess I sorta answered your question in an indirect way: Depending on the amount you have to lose, you may lose it slower than what you'd like, but who says faster is better anyhow. As long as you lose it. You have to view this as a life style change and not a diet where you lose the weight and then go off of it. This is a WOE you can follow the rest of your life. As long as you are following the plan and losing, that's what counts. Some people are slower losers than others (ask ROSALIE & SOLSHINE), where as others lose it quicker-remember, we're all so different, you can't base how you will lose on how others have done. Are you asking about the pictures (not happy faces, etc) and how to get those loaded in?? STEVIA, any HFS (health food store) should have it. I personally use STEVIA PLUS as it has no maltodextrin in it, where others do. Just remember, if you haven't tried it, start off with just a little bit, too much Stevia will taste bitter.

SPARKLE, had a treadmill, gave it promptly to my Dad years ago-hated being inside, and it became more of a clothes rack then an exercise machine. I think your idea of not doing a free day is good, I truly don't believe in them personally. BUT, try not to plan this all out as you are, I think when you do this and for some reason, it doesn't materialize as you think it should, you get very hard on yourself. Do your best to eat right and if you mess up somewhere, forgive yourself, it's not the end of the world, you're learning. :D

FRUIT, I know it's hard, but I know you are going to do it, it's just a matter of time now. No one says to forget, but to learn from past experiences is how we look forward to the future:) Keep posting girl, I really miss you when you aren't around!!

Okay, time for me to hit the shower. I'll check in with you all later this evening. Please remember, the new weekly board starts tomorrow and it's MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY so, if you have any words of wisdom, quotes or stories that will help up get through our journal, please, try to post them tomorrow.

Have a great day!

We're playing hooky from church so thought I get a quick hello in before I sit down with the huge Sunday paper. We're having a gorgeous weekend here. Sorry for the rain in SOFLA.

John: Welcome to the board. You'll add a somewhat different perspective to our posts! I started SB Aug. 8 or 9 ( I don't really remember the exact day) and have lost 18 pounds so far. I was down one more pound on Wednesday, but went up and am working on that lb. My goal is to lose 2 more by the end of the week. I'm going to visit my family and want to have a total of 20 pounds lost. They haven't seen me since I started. :D
I see you figured out the smilies.

Viv: My fingers are crossed for a successful round 3. I know you must have nubs for nails by now. The hardest part of watching our kids grow, is having to experience failure right along with them. My older daughter found out she finished 23 out of 88 sopranos at her hs all-region competition. They only took the top 20 for the second cut. But she had a good attitude. She said, "At least I know I can take rejection."

Chris: Keep your chin up. Believe me, I've been on this weight rollercoaster my whole life. And finally, after all of it, and with middle age setting in, I think this WOL is going to work. If you don't mind, I'd like to send you something privately. Maybe it'll help. Nothing earth shaking, just life experience.

Well, I've gotta run now. Hope everyone has a relaxing day today.

Another gorgeous day here- Sorry for the rain, SOFLA ladies. Got in a fast 3 miles w/ Cleo the wonder poodle, then MOWED the lawn (UGH!), my least favorite form of exercise but got real sweaty, then did a heavy 50 minute lifting session.
Only 17.5 miles of actual road work, but I don't count up the exercise bike miles or the tons of metal lifted. Now that would be interesting...
I'm getting really addicted to throwing heavy metal around. I feel so POWERFUL, at least until about 10 minutes after I'm done and then I feel like a jellyfish washed up on the beach.

Had a great time at the lacrosse tournament. My DD's first words to me were "mom! you look so small!". Quite a complement from a kid who's never worn larger than size 4 jeans. I'm DEFINITELY not there yet! :( And quite sure I never will be. I resisted all the tailgate goodies that all the parents brought except my pile of fruit, raw vegies, cheese, some caesar salad, and grilled chicken. Luckily since we are feeding atheletes that need to be able to play all day long, there was plenty of healthy food as well as the usual tasty crapfood (sorry- I have to think of it that way now). Unfortunatley, I felt so virtuous but deprived, that I ate a 1/2 box of triscuits and spicy cream cheese when we got home late last night.:?:

Jred- Women's lacrosse is a lot like soccer, but played up in the air with a hard ball slightly larger than a tennis ball, using long sticks with plastic and netting cups at the top to catch and throw the ball. It's a very fast game, and like soccer, a game of passing, shooting, and running, with (theoretically) no body contact. The men's game is a high contact sport. Very popular in the mid-atlantic region down to North Carolina (Baltimore is it's US home), but played a lot in New England, California and Colorado and Canada, England and Australia. It's turned into a real "hot" sport because a lot of colleges and universities are adding teams, and it's a lot easier to get recruited as a LAX player than a soccer player, just cause EVERYBODY plays soccer. All over the country, and the world.

Deb- Wish I cound send you some of this weather- you'd be walking all day. Sounds pretty miserable there, but come January, the shoe will be on the other foot! Sorry about the hair comments:o I did'nt realize how discouraging I sounded. I'm sure you'll look great and from your pics you have great hair to start with!:)

Sparkle-Good luck with the fodd. Could you add vanilla or almond ectract to that stuff to give it flavor? I gotta say I don't think I could swallow most of that menu. Well, that's why I'm just doing the weight part and sticking to the SB WOE. More power to you:D Pun intended.

Gator and BOB and Fillise-CALM DOWN LADIES!IT'S A GAME! Not like ice hockey or anything!

Speaking of which- VIV - good luck surviving round 3. I'm always thankful my son isathletically challenged and refuses to try ice hockey, though he enjoys playing soccer. I've always thought the hockey moms had the worst to deal with not even counting the high cost of equipment! Though I sure know how much sports have meant to my kids (even the athletically challenged one)and how much it's done for both of them. Especially the one on a nearly full scholarship. Thank you, Ohio State!

Sef- Glad to hear you're not on the critical list. Keep us posted:)

John C- welcome. This place may get a bit strange for a guy sometimes, but just chime in and give us your perspective. I've been SB pretty fanatically since 7/24/01 and lost (depending on the day) between 21-24 pounds. The first 18 came off fairly easily, but I've been fighting with the last three pounds appearing and disappearing for a few weeks now. Hopefully, increasing my workouts from wimpy weights to serious metal has something to do with that (or I'm just trying to find an excuse!):^: I've got between 15-20 more to go, so I'm gonna be at it for a while.

Hello to everyone else- off to Fresh Fields for some legal chocolate(my son discovered my stash and ate it ALL. boy was I mad. I only eat about 1 little finger nail size piece per week, but knowing that it's there keeps my happy. I was ready to kill him. Especially since he was so sick the next morning, there was over 1/2 pound, that he missed school and I didn't find out why he was sick til much later that night. All day I was sooo nice to him cause the poor dear didn't feel good! and another attempt to find agave nectar. I'm not sure I beleive the stuff exists at this point:(

Missy--Congrats on the Tiger’s win.
SolShine--My condolences on having a really tough year. I’ve been there. We’ve had an 0-10-1 year not that long ago. Hopefully the dogs won’t have that kind of record by the year’s end.

Missy--Don’t worry. BiG Orange is just a pussy cat at heart. We love each other but we just make a “lot of noise” this time of year. I think BOB is even more ardent than I am! I agree with you about bad fans. I hate that crap too. Boy, I really am sorry we didn’t get to that LSU game. I can’t wait for 2003, when we can get together.

Debbie--We are finally getting your rain. We were on the way out to watch a golf tournament at Disney today and it was raining everywhere, so we turned around and went back home.

John--Your name sounds like a guy name to me, so welcome and congratulations on breaking the gender barrier!! :)

Sparkle--I agree with the others about the “free day.” If it just sabotages your previous efforts, forget it. You have to find what works for you. Your remarks earlier about how thin people eat were very interesting, and perhaps as you meditate on that more, you can incorporate their WO living with food into your daily life. For example, I bet thin people don’t have “free days.” They don’t obsess about food like I do, and so have nothing to have to be free from. I think “freedom” is part of their WOE. They eat what they are hungry for, but, as you mentioned, eat only when hungry, and stop when satisfied. I think they basically know that any food, cupcakes, fried chicken, or peanut butter is always free for them to have, IF they are hungry and actually want that particular food to satisfy them. So, there is no stuffing on a “forbidden” food to make themselves feel better. I wonder if thin people use other means to satisfy whatever it is that we use food to satisfy.

Well, I’ve got a bit pot of chicken brokwn rice soup on the stove to take to our class tonight. Gotta go check on it. Deb, I think I’ll send the pix to Rosalie.

Rosalie, I’ll send you the pix. I hope they come out. I took them in a dark! restaurant with a flash. I’ll see. If they do, I’ll send them to you to scan and send on to Debbie. You can send me your snail mail address.

Have a great evening, all.

Evening All:wave:

Thought I'd get in a quick post before it gets too late and I get glued to the boob-tube.

Didn't do a darn tootin thing worthwhile today-it rained like crazy here again this afternoon. Just went to my Sisters house for my niece's party. Made sure she bought the 97% FF hotdogs, sf bread and 75% reduced fat cheese, which is what I had along with a tangerine and a tiny bit of coleslaw made w/o sugar. Did have a bit of Breyers Ice Cream for dessert, maybe 1/2 cup, which about a 1/4 of a cup stayed down:rolleyes: :)

MEL, you sound like you did a lot of exercise this weekend. Thanks for keeping me company on the exercise board this week;) LOL! I know you were not serious about the hair thing-I don't take things like that seriously. My hair desperately NEEDS help, it's been since almost the middle of February since I did anything to it, no cutting, no coloring. I'm hoping it's a go tomorrow, I haven't gotten a hold of the guy to confirm yet. Oh, don't I wish you could send me some nice cool weather, I promise, I'd reciprocate in January:D

GATOR, what ever's easiest with the pictures-we appreciate you taking them!:)

Okay gals, back to my spot on the couch, I'll see you all on the new board tomorrow morning:D

Toodles

EVENING EVERYBUDDY!!! :D

SIZE=4]Don't you guys worry about PHYSICAL CONTACT between me and GATOR ,
We don't come anywhere near each other during PIGSKIN SEASON ;) I'm MUCH MORE territorial than she is...and would definately bleed ORANGE BLOOD
if given the chance. We have run into some PRETTY NASTY FLA
fans when they come to Knoxville............... especially during the ROUND BALL SEASON They actually come ARMED with big ORANGES and throw them at the team when they hit the floor to warm up! Now, I'm not saying that there are NO nasty TENNESSEE fans, because I've seen them myself.. :dizzy:
BUT be assured, GATOR & BOB take the gloves off when they are together!!

LAURIE What's the name of that new store? You know I'll be down there sniffing around if it's that good! We're getting a
WHOLE FOODS store, but it won't be done until 2004..they are really doing it UPSCALE with condo's upstairs and everything..

SUSAN all I can say about your game is OH...MY...GAWD!! I'm pulling for you all to win the BIG KAHUNA in December...I don't think my team is strong enough to make it that far..they still have a long way to go...

GATOR The way they were talking last night on ESPN, we may not even get to play our game...there might not be a need for it...WOULDN'T THAT BE SOMETHING????

DEB GOOD LITTLE AUNTIE....It's raining over here now...I was out and got caught in the downpours this afternoon..We could use a steady all nighter! CONGRATS TO ELI Just think...I KNEW HIM WHEN!!

MISSY I'm so glad you had a good time in Lexington..I had no doubt that you wouldn't...Where did you stay? I wish you had sauntered down into the tail gaters...you would have REALLY had a good time down there!

CHRIS I was over in your website lurking around and noticed that you promote the Official SUGAR BUSTER board and site, but not our board....any reason why?

HEY ROSALIE, J, TREE, MUSIC, ANNE, HOPE YOU'RE HAVING A GOOD TIME MELF. HELLO VIV..How's Dad?

WELCOME JOHN.....WATCH OUT GALS...WE'VE GOT A ROOSTER IN THE HENHOUSE!!
Hope you stick around...good luck on your adventure....

OFF TO RECLINE.....

Well I guess Bob thought I would never be back. But here I am even though she keeps calling Bama evil. It sounded like an interesting game. If we could just get Bama to play 4 quarters. Hubby, brother, son and friend were at the game. I was getting a play by play from the guy sitting behind me while I was driving the Band Kids to thier Contest. Congratulations Big Orange Babe . We had a great contest . 31 Bands came . Our Cougar Band got straight 1's. We also was picked best in show, best in class and scored the highest in our division. What a great day for the kids. We didn't get back till 12 midnight. I was so tired this am.

This morning MIL called and said her daugther was taking her to the emergency room. Her finger was swollen really bad. Well they admitted her to give her IV antibiotics. We went up and stayed with her pretty much all afternoon. She should be home in a couple of days.

I don't have the energy or the time to post a reply to everyone but would like to say welcome to John C. Are you the John who posts a lot on the sugarbuster board? Glad to have you with us.

See you all tomorrow.

Debbie :))

BOB

I was a little bit puzzled as to what you were talking about and kept digging until I figured out that I had a blurb obviously describing this board, but the WRONG LINK.

http://www.shapeshakers.com/sugarfree.html

I'll fix it later on today.

Also have two more links to the 3FC site, one of them quite prominent and described as "Still the best online community for weight loss support that I have found."

http://www.shapeshakers.com/sslinks.html

(bottom of page)

The site is definitely a work in progress and any comments/criticisms are most appreciated. Thanks BOB for pointing that out -- I really don't want people to think I'm not supportive of this FABULOUS FORUM!!!!

Love,

Chris
