South Beach Diet - Tackle It Tuesday Chat - January 16

01-16-2007, 07:53 AM
Good morning, Chickies. Time to rise and shine or dimly glow if you aren't feeling shiny.

I'm nice and warm in here this morning. The woodstove held for the night which makes a huge difference in the kitchen. :)

Yesterday was sort of a lost day as I did very little although I did finally get the Christmas china packed away! I need staff for stuff like that because I procrastinate. My lane got ploughed out twice by Bruce and I didn't get to shovelling the steps and decks. My motto is "Wait until it stops" and it has so that will be on the list this morning.

Domestic stuff today and off to pet therapy at 5:30 with Hershey. Both dogs are finding it rather cold outside. Poor timing on the haircuts! It's going to be very, very cold tomorrow so I may have to get out the dog coats. It will be -30 F and then there'll be the windchill! Brrrr! :yikes:

Stay safe and warm and pop in for a :coffee: and a chat.

01-16-2007, 07:58 AM
Ding Ding Ding!! Cawfee's a Perkin :coffee: Tea Kettle's a Whistlin' :genie: Diet Soda Tops a Poppin!!! :coach: Grab yer caffiene of choice and let's :cofdate:

I'll be back in a bit... Queens Darby and Casey demand my attention!

01-16-2007, 08:02 AM
Morning Ruth! I am certainly a dim glower this morning as I did not want to get out of bed this morning! Have a great day. :)

Schatzers Enjoy your coffee- hope that your day is good as well.

Gotta get my coffee and go, go, go.... I know better than to take time to check in in the morning, but it starts my day off in the right direction.

Have a super beachy day gals! I am planned and ready to conquer it!!

01-16-2007, 09:32 AM
Good Morning,

Once again, I was sure I posted earlier, but I don't know where it went!!!!

Carley is still asleep, so I've had my breakfast, made my salad for lunch, and am enjoying a second cup of coffee right now. I'll have to wake her soon, though, because she'll need a nebulizer treatment before her breakfast, and we have to leave by 10 to get Maggie and start our rounds of ballet, tap and piano lessons. That should be interesting, getting 2 littles in and out of the car all day. At least Audrey can buckle herself in now. I gave Caitlyn a call to make sure she's up for school. This is the first time she's spent the night alone at her house, but she says she didn't mind it at all. She spent all day yesterday working on a big homework problem and cleaning her room, and said she got a lot accomplished being on her own. I have to remember that she is 16 1/2, and not a baby anymore!
I'm hearing noises upstairs, so I better go for now.
Take care, everyone, and have a great day!

01-16-2007, 09:45 AM
Yup, it's morning. Not so sure it's a good morning, but it's definitely morning. The girls didn't go to sleep until well after 10:30 last night, and even then they were both in my bed. For the life of me, I couldn't get them to settle down. No clue why. We did nothing different than we do every other night. Made for a very long evening (where nothing was accomplished) and an incredibly short night. Now that I have my coffee and cheesecake...things are looking up.

Ruth - Glad you're warm today. :) Nothing like waking up to icecicles in your slippers. Stay warm!

Schatzi - You need to teach them that YOU are the Queen and they are mere princesses.

Kiko - Hope you weren't late!! Enjoy your coffee.

cottage - Have a good day with the girls. Sounds like quite an undertaking.

01-16-2007, 10:25 AM
Good morning everyone. Definitely a hard morning to get out of bed. I was working till 3 am (delivered a 10 pound baby who really wasn't seeming like he wanted to be born!)
I'll check in later. got to work.

01-16-2007, 10:40 AM
Good morning everyone. Today is my early day in the office, though I do not actually have to get up any earlier than I would for the gym (except I have skipped that for almost two weeks due to illness :( ), so it felt early. My assitant already commented on the fact that I am drinking coffee - usually I keep it to the latte I make at home, but it smelled so good.

It is cold here today and snowing - lake effect is predicted which could be fun, thankfully I get to walk to work - no need to brush my car off. But, I finally get to wear some of my warm, winter sweaters - yeah!

Happy Tuesday to all!

01-16-2007, 11:33 AM
Morning all. It's VERY cold outside today. I was a good "wife" & I clean/warmed up the car for my fiance before he left for work. I had loads of cleaning to do...I'm not sure how this apartment gets so messy, it's just the 2 of us. I think we are out- growing this apt!!! And I have work to do as well (I hate working on my day off!!) I think I'm going to browse through the soup recipes before I leave.....I want something warm today!!
Ally - have a great day at the office.
Rebel - sounds like a long night for you, try to get some sleep.
Jetsetter - I have yet to make the cheesecake.....will have to try. Do you make the cake or do you do individual servings (cupcakes?)
Cottage - enjoy your day....sounds like you're a taxi service. Be careful on the roads!!
Kiko - I'm the same way! I should never come on here in the morning because I start reading & the next thing you know, I'm running late!!
Schatzi - Hello darling!! That coffee sounds good, I need to make some (decaf of course!)
Ruth - I still have some Christamas decorations to put away myself. Just some knick knacks & towels. Will do today as I clean like a maniac!!

01-16-2007, 11:41 AM
Happy Tuesday All!!

I wrote a long post yesterday and user error must have happened because it just vanished into the internet abyss. Oh well!!

Today is a work day for me. I am lucky to work a reduced schedule of 3 days per week. But those work mornings are rough getting 3 kids age 4 and under up and out the door to daycare. And this ice storm has it so brrrrrr cold, it makes getting out of those flannel sheets even harder.

Hope everyone is energized from their caffeine this morning. I have my big ole glass of water by my side. Little frustrated with a 5 day stall at the end of my P1 restart. But I know the stall is temporary and to keep on track for losses!

Enjoy your day!!

01-16-2007, 11:57 AM
Yippee! I am down 1.4 pounds this morning, so am halfway to my January goal. :)

Gotta work, I am sneaking on........

01-16-2007, 12:36 PM
Good morning!

I've been dying for a coffee for a week now, but the only way I like it is with lots of sugar and Coffeemate, so no more coffee for me!!

My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary last night with chicken saute, mashed "potatoes" and green beans, with a glass of Crystal Lite for me and wine for him. Not quite our delicious Thai food that we usually celebrate with, but I suppose it's really all about the company, not the food.

Hope nobody minds that I'm sneaking on, can't wait to get to know you all a little better!

01-16-2007, 12:43 PM
Cottage-you have a little one with asthma? no fun at all-my daughter had it when she was quite small and cant tell you how many times we ended up in ER-she was a scary one.

Jet-what cheesecake recipe are you making? I have been makine them with tofu and now a friend of mine tells me that too much tofu is bad for you-shrinks your brain and messes with hormones-sheesh-thats all I need-something else I thought was healthy that really isnt.

Rebel- I swore after having my son that a 10 pound baby was God's form of birth control (son was 10lb 4oz)

Amasam-careful walking in the snow/ice

Soon2B-have fun with all yor plans-do you have a wedding website? I think those are so cool and fun for everyone looking forward to the big day and heping you plan.

Smilintwins-have fun with your little ones-how far apart is the third from the twns? EEEEk! if that wont keep you busy-yowza.

More snow here-and my son was supposed to be getting off work at either 5 or 6 and it is over 2 hours later and WHERE IS HE??? ok so he might be walking home-and he does wear a big furry hat with the ear flaps and all and he IS 21-so I should relax even if the busses arent running-but then I worry about him slipping-still have tons of ice from last week and it is snowing again.
Worked yesterday for a temp agency-packing orders in a warehouse so was walking all day-that would be good for me if the weather lets up and they open today. This is the worst shape I have been in financailly since like EVER-was doing ok and had a good nest egg before my sisters kids came to live with me that year and a half-but now I think I literally have 2 bucks in savings-and buisness is so down because of how much I was curtailed-it is like I am starting over completely from scratch-and I have a friend that want me to move to Arizona and open up there. Suppose now would be the time to do that-my kids are grown and whatever I do will be a restart........I moved to this town because 22 years ago I got married-it wasnt like I did research and PLANNED to be here-that is where my friend comes in handy-good business sense and has money to help get me started.
coffee is brewing-and so is everything else.

Happy Anniversary! how many does that make? Sounds like he is supportive of your healthier eating plan-way to go!
Did you make the cauliflower mashed potatoes? I have done sbd for a long time and still have not gotten around to trying that.

01-16-2007, 12:49 PM
KIKO!! You are back on TRACK :cp: U Work it Girl :cheer2: Btw, your avatar is BeeUtiful!

Barb? Barb... Come in Barb! Wow you've been busy but it sounds like you are enjoying most of it!

Cottage: Caitlyn sounds like she's a great teen with a good head on her shoulders! And Yes We're looking at building a 4 bedroom house (we only will need 2) with a den/office.. so one of extra bedrooms will be my craft room. The other.. prolly another office

Jetsetter:  Yes, they are my princesses.. I've Dog Whispered them !

Rebel: Exxxciting night I bet!

Soon: I hear ya, it's only me and DH and we are into "casual living" but I wave a mean swiffer! Just think of how many Virtual Bridesmaids you're going to have  I cant wait till we all see the dress!

Smilintwins: You do have your hands full!

Ruth it sounds so "Tom Kincaid" wood stove burning, snow falling , 2 loverly companions! Stay warm and safe!

This home building process is very exciting.. I'm learning more than I ever wanted to about things like Soil types, blueprints, building codes...OY! We went to a design place yesterday and looked at some stock plans..not really impressed and it seems like the plans out on the internet were better.. Thursday we see another designer. We'll look at his plans, and then we have to decide.. Our taste seems to run to French County/farmhouse..with lots of peaks, front porch, use of stone .. ok time to get back to work! Have a great day goils!!! Dinner tonight is an italian meatloaf with a tossed salad!

01-16-2007, 12:52 PM
Happy Anniversary! how many does that make? Sounds like he is supportive of your healthier eating plan-way to go!
Did you make the cauliflower mashed potatoes? I have done sbd for a long time and still have not gotten around to trying that.

It's been four years for us! He's been very, very supportive of me, I really couldn't ask for anything better! Yes, I made the cauliflower mashed potatoes. Ick! I don't even really like potatoes that much, so I don't know why I bothered! :D

01-16-2007, 01:05 PM
Schatzi-your home plans sound WONDERFUL-HOW FUN!!!
The stone stuff-I covered a brick fireplace in river rock (from the river where I grew up-so it was free) and a friend that just did a HUGE remodel had it done on parts of her house-materials alone was like 5.50 a sq ft.
oooh-one of the things that always catches peoples eye about my fireplace (and was my dads idea) every so often a flat rock shelf for candles-think there are 3 on one side and 2 on the other.

Rediculously Addicted-how cool is that? Sounds like a keeper.

01-16-2007, 01:32 PM
:coffee: Well, I am off in the ice and snow to work and doctor appointments. I am a little disappointed at the weather because I have a long awaited appointment in Portland (which is 3 hours away) and that is looking like a really bad idea for Thursday. We have frozen roads with snow covering it and more by the minute. Guessing it will be slow at work today but have to be there.

:dust: for everyone.

01-16-2007, 01:33 PM
Soon - I made it in a springform pan, but I think I might go the cupcake route next time around. The pan takes up too much room in my fridge, and it's a little on the runny side (will have to cook it longer in my oven), so freezing slices wasn't really an option.

WildWoman - It's the breakfast cheesecake ( recipe in the Phase 1 Breakfasts. If memory serves, MasterCook said it was 220 calories per slice (16 servings).

My goodness it has been a busy morning. As well as my normal work, I've had a lesson in heat treating aluminum, and am acting as go-between for our admin assistant and the new engineer who is stilll phoneless and computerless after a week on the job. Better finish lunch while I have a chance. "See" y'all tonight...I hope!!

01-16-2007, 01:40 PM
Hi chicks, I have a about 1.5 seconds to jump in and say Hello. I was just sending kids pictures to the moms, things have been super crazy around here. I will pop back in later and catch you and me up. Take care. Gotta go the second is up.

01-16-2007, 01:40 PM
Hey guys! I post on other threads on this site but i figured since i'm going to be doing SB for life i better get to know you guys :)

Well... i started on 12-26-06 and i'm going pretty strong. My main goal is to lose thirty pounds by mid june for my trip to Europe. And then after that i would either like to lose five more pounds or stay the same but look five pounds lighter (a lot of toning)

Happy Tuesday :)

01-16-2007, 01:48 PM
sounds good-are you using any sort of a crust with that? ie nut crust?
I am sitting here with my pumpkin custard that I froze when i learned that pumpkin was not allowed on Ph1-well now it is watery-not sure if that is from the soy milk I used or what.
Am happy to hear that it is supposed to rain today!!! ok ok so nothing like killer icy roadways to give one a new appreciation for what we thought we were all sick of around here (Has been the wettest winter on record)

Mamajok-how are things up in your corner of Wa? Hope you are staying warm and dry.

01-16-2007, 02:13 PM
Good afternoon chicks! Hope everyone is having a good day! I can't chat's been a busy day today! I keep telling myself that I'm going to get up earlier so I can get on here and read all of the posts but I can't seem to drag my sleepy head out of bed!

I went grocery shopping the night before last to prepare me and dh to start SB. I guess that's a good start but I've realized that I need to take it a step further and cook ahead of time for my breakfasts and lunches. I'm so busy changing diapers, feeding babies, and doing lessons that I don't have time to stop and cook a meal. Dh wants to do this with me but I'm concerned because he won't eat alot of veggies and I'm not sure if he could stay full on this diet! He says he'd be satisfied just doing Ph2 but for me I know it's gotta be ph1. Well, I better go...I've got lots to do. I'll check in later! Have a grrrreat day!!!

Best to all of you today.

tar675 - I found that the only way I stay on plan with the kids under foot is to take the time on the weekend to prepare some items. Wash lettuce, cut celery and peppers, etc. And my DH sits on the beach with me at home, but his lunch? He has whatever he pleases. And he keeps some snacks that we both love and I just can not have in the house at his desk. He calls it the pseudo-beach and when we did this last time (I am restarting again after another baby) he lost 15 pounds.

I love hearing what everyone is up to...its so much fun hanging out on the beach!

01-16-2007, 03:16 PM
Sorry I missed you sis, even though the snow is still coming down we made it to our excercise class. Just got home (and have to eat) so will make this short.

I will come back later to post some encouragement to others.

Yeah, :carrot: lost more, feeling great!

Good moring girls.

Busy morning but i did get my walk in with neighbor. A little slick in a few places.

When you lose weight how do you get the curser on the bar to move?

I amd glad to meet lubajo's sister.

I made my son macaroni. I'll have to stay away from it . Will be hard, but I can do it.

I enjoy reading the posts. Got to get a new picture. Bunnsbaby had it first.

01-16-2007, 03:38 PM
Hi Morning Star... here's the easiest way to change your current weight:

Go into User CP ( its on the top bar, first menu item)
Once you click on that you will be brought to your profile info. On the left side look for "Edit signature". Click on that. Scroll down and you will see a box that has code in it.
Look at your code and you will see three numbers that represent your Starting weight, Goal weight, and Current weight. The last number is your current weight and is the only one you need to change.
Change the current weight to your NEW current weight. Make sure you don't change anything else, or you may have to go make a new tracker. Now save your signature.

Just thought I'd share with you that the snow does fall in Texas! (It's actually snowing across most of the state right now!) Gotta get to work! Have a great **warm** beachy day!

01-16-2007, 04:18 PM
Aren't you creative Kim!! Ya know I never knew it snowed in Texas- thought it was too far south...but then again it's such a BIG state that I guess the north part is in the snow area :dizzy:

Hoooo Boy Tooo many posts! We beachers are a chatty bunch eh?

WW. What a great idea! I've got a visual in my head and think it MUST be Beautiful! Ya know ya got me thinking now :chin: maybe later on I will start a thread of what people have done or their own wish list of stuff.. The books I've been reading state that alot of folks take a YEAR or longer to develop Wish Lists and be conscious of how they move in their kitchen and other spaces to complete the design of their home/rooms .. I think a Brain stormin thread with the chicks would help me! We are all so different and Unique --the more ideas the better I say!
I've been trying to figure out how I can use the abundance of Quartzy stones on the property. Just like you have done - the stones are so pretty I'd like to incorporate them somewhere.

Hello, Meant to say Bunnababy, not Bunnsbaby . Sorry

01-16-2007, 05:32 PM
I'm here. I just got off a 5.5 hour conference call working an issue in production. Actually for several hours, I was on more than one call at a time. I did take a break and heat up lunch. Thank goodness I bring leftovers and rarely try to plan on going out to eat.

I did make a big decision and bought a DLP. It isn't a terribly expensive projector and I do need it to teach training but it was still an awful lot of money. I guess I'll just think of it as a late birthday present to myself.

I just saw the post about snow in Texas and went to check out a window. I don't see any here but I did hear that it was a possibility for today. Much better than the ice that was still on parts of the road this morning. 24 degrees was way too cold for me to want to go out to work this morning. Just checked and it has warmed up to 30! I hate the cold!

01-16-2007, 05:51 PM
Hey Barb! Sorry about that loooong conference call! We've gotten about an inch in Alpine so far with 2-6 more inches expected. My parents near Austin and my sisters have been having a mix of sleet and snow all day long!

01-16-2007, 06:14 PM
I just checked for my zip and it looks like our snow is expected after midnight. I have a very early morning meeting tomorrow so I'll be working from home so at least I won't have to worry about the roads (except for taking Brian to school). I doubt if it will cause us much trouble though. Not like the ice.

I'm heading out to go pick up my DLP. I love new toys and so seldom buy them.

01-16-2007, 07:39 PM
Here's some pics of our snow so TEXAS!! ( (

01-16-2007, 09:44 PM
Barb I was also just on and it looks like any snow we are getting is in the morning. You are right though in that snow won't cause us trouble, it is the ice.

Good day here, just need to make it to bedtime without blowing it. :) That is often my hardest time of the day.

Off to snuggle on the couch!

01-16-2007, 10:19 PM
Last post of the day...Long day!

Jetsetter - DH is an engineer and when I told him there was a young lady on this site that is also an engineer working for Lear...he wanted to know what kind engineer you are? I told him a smart one:) He's an electric engineer...retired but works as a consultant part-time.

Wildwoman - Our snow is about 6" deep in areas...we are surrounded by deep snow except the driveway and sidewalk where DH keeps shoveling.
We are keeping warm, thanks for asking.

Morning Star - Good for you...walking is good but be careful!

Me - Sad that I missed my sister this morning...hope we can try tomorrow morning. I have had a sorta hectic day. Hubby and I are thinking about doing a home exchange for vacations in Europe and I have been trying to up-load pictures of our condo to a newly created web page with no luck. I know they're in my 'file manager' but that's as far as I I am stuck!
My eyes are tired, I am cranky so I think it's time to get off the computer and call it a day.

Have a wonderful Wednesday gals...good eats, good excercise and lots of refreshing water.

Love you sis!

01-17-2007, 12:49 AM
Just got home from the gym and all my errands-called in to work at the warehouse job again tomorrow-hope I dont spend the day regretting my food choices from today-made a big pot of chili  :o and had some for both luch and dinner. Pulled 2 cups of beans out of the pot before I added everything else. Saw the recipe that have posted here for the bean brownies-it only has about half the ingredients of the one from the SBD site-also there is another recipe site for SBD stuff-I think it was bult by another SBD member- if you google
shiles century club south beach diet
you should run across it fairly easily.
So I need to pack a breakfast and lunch and hit the road early dr apt(cant eat before) then the day job-need to have my suit ready as I have a committee meeting tomorrow night-which will of course be a dinner meeting-eeek-when i am changing for that-set up the buckets of horse food (the stuff has to soak-but when its cold like this I like to give it to them warm) come home from meeting and drive out to the horses who hopefully will understand why their dinner is late-then-the gym-maybe a short workout.
ok thats tomorrow-best of luck to you all
