South Beach Diet - Weekend Warblings on the Beach!

View Full Version : Weekend Warblings on the Beach!

01-13-2007, 08:19 AM
CackleDoooooodle Dooooooo :chicken: It's the weekend Chicks! Time to get up and make the most of it! But first... gotta fill my tank with cawfee :coffee: Then find my Sandals Shorts and SPF...It's gonna be 74 here !!! Crazy weather:dizzy:

I'll check back later.. Darby and Casey are barking that it's time to go out!

01-13-2007, 08:46 AM
Sheesh! It's Saturday, Schatzi! The chickies are probably sleeping.

Little Chick, I hope you are sleeping this morning. You sounded pretty wrung out yesterday.

WildWoman, I just grab a handful of spinach. Yes, you may be overthinking this. Spinach is a great veggie so you can't overdose on it.

Lubajo, I hope you are sleeping soundly way out there.

Jetsetter, so nice to hear that your Grandma has rallied! Now let's hope for a speedy and complete recovery.

Schatzi, your weather sounds great but we have 21F and are heading into even colder weather. When they predict below normal temps up here, that's cold! 21F will feel like Florida by the end of next week. The woodstove held all night and kept the back room cozy. I think I've finally got my stove management skills back. It's part of my pioneer heritage. Today I need to lug in more wood, wearing the knee support!

There's other mundane stuff to do today besides the wood but nothing too thrilling unless you get off on trips to the dump, laundry and mopping floors!

Time to crank up the day. Pop in for a chat if you have time this weekend.

01-13-2007, 08:51 AM
74º?? Schatzi, that's just not even fair!! :p I haven't been brave enough to look out the window yet, but I heard ice hitting the house throughout the night.

I've had my coffee and cheesecake, the girls have been fed and are enjoying their special "coffee drinks" (half a cup of milk, a splash of coffee, and some splenda). In a bit, we'll head down to the basement to play and work on the project I started last weekend.

01-13-2007, 08:53 AM
Ruth, you snuck in while I was typing. Enjoy your day of mundane errands.

01-13-2007, 10:33 AM
Morning gals!

I never made it in to post yesterday. School has been so busy! :dizzy:

Ruth Enjoy your day of errands. :)

Jet We are expecting horrible weather for the Dallas area. We don't get much inclement weather, so when we do it is major news. Freezing rain and cold temps for the next couple of days. I would LOVE to hole up in the house, but we have a birthday party this morning.

LC Hope you got a good night's sleep and wake up feeling refreshed.

Kim That will be great motivation to do a support group at work. We are having lots of fun wearing and checking our pedometers at school. Our official WI day is on Mondays, so I can't wait to weigh in!!

Schatzi My caw-fee does not seem to be pumping me up very quickly this morning.

Barb You shop at Kroger, don't you?? There are some good deals in their weekly ad this week. :)

Me- Just finished planning meals for the week and putting a grocery list together. Money is especially tight this week and next, so it is definitely SBD on a budget. Not always the easiest, but I am determined to do this and not use $$ as an excuse! I think I am going to hit the shower and then grocery shop before the birthday party. It really is supposed to get ugly as far as the weather is concerned.

Later gals!!

01-13-2007, 10:50 AM
Hey all. Haven't been able to read the posts much lately, but finally did decide to suck it up and change my ticker to add the 4 pounds I put back on over the holidays. :(

Jetsetter, hope you didn't get too much ice where you are. I've got about 1/2" of sleet at my house. My parents and sister's family are down around the Springfield/Joplin area where it's going to be much worse. Hope they don't lose their power.

Kiko and Ruth - Hope you get all of your errands done without incident. :)

Schatzi - Enjoy your warm weather!

As for me, I got to the store Wednesday night before the bad weather hit, so I'm squared away. Got a quiche in the oven and a pan of granola ready to go in right after that. They let us go from work early yesterday because of the weather, so my project for the weekend is to get my bedroom completely (and I do mean completely) cleaned up. I finished cleaning out the closet last night and packed up the clothes that are too big :carrot: for donation. Now it's on to clearing out the clutter that's accumulated on the entertainment center!

Everyone have a great weekend!

01-13-2007, 12:29 PM
Good Morning All,

SHatzi - Wow, 75 degrees! :sunny: I will trade you for our 20 degrees:( and dropping.

Ruth - Your day sounds a lot like mine except I will not be going anywhere unless DH does the driving.

JetStetter - Have fun with your weekend project.

Kiko - I understand what you mean abuot $$ for the right foods for us girls trying to eat healthy and lose weight. I look forward to the good weather when our local Farmers Markets start to open up. I have also found a great butcher (right in our local grocery store) willing to give me just the right amount of meat so I don't waste it. We only have a small fridge/freezer so I can't keep too many packages in it.

JunaM - Nice to get rid of "too big" clothes.:)

Sis - I hope you come on today so I can see what you're up to. I love you.

Me - Another quiet day due to the bad weather. At least DH drove us to a local grocery store (on very icy roads) to stock up again. We may brave the roads again tonight to go to church. We go Sat. night instead of Sun. morning so DH can watch his favorite news talk shows!

I plan to re-organize my craft corner today. I made a lot of Christmas things in there so it's kinda disorganized to say the least.

Sis, this is my three-day off so please pray for me!

01-13-2007, 12:36 PM
Good morning, everyone.

Yesterday my car was coated with ice when I left work. 75 deg sounds great to me!

I'm going to a potluck tonight, and it didn't even occur to me till now that there would be any problems with this. I'm bringing fruit salad, so that my picky daughter will have something she can eat, but this wasn't initially going to be a party that included kids, and was planned back before I re-started SBD. And all the other adults are gourmet cooks. We're ending up with 7 elementary school aged kids coming, so maybe they'll cook lees exotic things than they usually do. Maybe I'll bring hummus and veggies, too, just to be sure that there is something I really LIKE that I can eat and still be phase 1.

Kim and Kiko - my workplace does a "holiday weight challenge" every year - weigh in before Thanksgiving, weigh out in January, and those who don't gain any weight get a prize. Out "weighout" is this week.

Rebel: Yes take some food you can eat just in case...Have lots of fun...always nice to watch the kids having a joyful time.

01-13-2007, 12:58 PM
I got the sofa and TV moved around, a new throw put on the sofa, and stuck some removable stickers on the wall in the play is officially princess territory. If I could just convince them to let me pick up the mess, it would look really good. But every time I pick something up, something else comes out. A never-ending battle!!!

Speaking of battles, I think I need to go break up a tussle.

01-13-2007, 01:00 PM
Morning everyone. I just have time for a quick post. DH and I are discussing whether or not I should head to Austin to see a friend who is in the hospital.

She's 26 and had surgery two weeks ago to correct her tilted uterus so that her and her DH could try to conceive. Well, she got a blood clot during the surgery, so they put her on blood thinner because the clot was in a spot they couldn't operate on. She was feeling fine 2 days ago and was finally able to get up and move around without pain. Yesterday her leg started swelling and she couldn't even lift it off the bed. It turns out she's bleeding internally into her leg muscle. The docs are confused and are unsure how to handle the internal bleeding without the clot dislodging. I'm very sad that I can't be with her, but there are a lot of reasons I shouldn't go.

First is the ice storm moving through that part of Texas, and the fact that it will take me 5 1/2 hours before I hit the storm (and another 2 hours after) means that I'll be tired by that point. Also, we're not prepared financially to make the trip AND I HAVE to be at work Monday to interview new hires. I'm so frustrated and everything's so up in the air!!

01-13-2007, 01:19 PM
KIM ~ I'm sending up prayers for your friend, that she improves and has a speedy recovery. I can understand that you would want to be there, however, you must think of your own safety, too. Can she use the phone? How about calling her for a heartfelt chat? That would probably mean a lot to her right now. Let us know how she's doing!

Ooops! I'll be back in later, my DD and GD's got dropped in!!!!!!

01-13-2007, 03:08 PM
Kim-I will add my prayers for your friend as well. I do feel truly blessed to have been able to carry & have my children, and am still struggeling with certain things about others not valuing the sanctity of life/children-things dont always make sense. (my sister-4 kids-4 diffrent guys 2 adopted outside the family-2 she just got back and she feels no need to get her tubes tied-long story)
Jetsetter-how old are your kids? I had my niece and nephew for a year and a half and it is so quiet now-you forget all the little kid stuff when your kids are as old as mine.
Looking out my window-it seems we have the same amount of snow we got Wednesday evening. Sessions supposed to happen today got rescheduled. I should get back on my home repair projects-could build a nice fire in livingroom and put in the moulding-hmmmmm-ok someone kick me in the butt-guess I am just afraid of those compound miter cuts.
My boyfriend and his mother have some rentals in Palm Springs and I was supposed to fly down and help him do some repairs on a couple-but now they might just sell them all-and there goes my sunny vacation-and seeing my BF-he lives in Oregon-so if they DO sell I think he and I will take a weekend at the coast in Feb.
Guess thats all I have to report for now

01-13-2007, 06:57 PM
Hey there all-

Kim I will say a prayer for your friend as well. I agree with Cottage- you need to be safe, a daily phone call to check on her will let her know you care.

Jet I hear you on the toy mess! Since organizing my house over winter break, we have done a pretty good job of staying that way. My older DD has been taking more responsibility for picking up after herself which has been nice to see.

Rebel You can always eat something before you go. You will be less likely to snack and eat a lot if you aren't super hungry.

Lubajo, Mamajok, Rebel, and WildWoman Happy Weekend!! :waving:

The girls are snuggled up on my bed watching a movie on the portable DVD player. They are too cute!! The perfect thing for a gloomy, rainy day. :rain: The birthday party was fun- I always enjoy getting to chat with the other moms. Cupcakes and cookies, but I passed on both. The trip to Walmart was AWFUL!!!!! It was packed, everyone stocking up for stuff as they are freaking about the weather. Then we had to wait in line for at least 25 minutes. Annoying, but it is done!

Need more veggies and water today, I am feeling bloated. Not sure what is for dinner, that is never a good plan.......

little chick
01-13-2007, 07:23 PM
Hello chicks. Thanks for the warm thoughts. I am feeling a little better today not as tired. Taught my dance class this morning, did a little shopping bought a sweet pair of pink nikies and some new hair color. Plus I bought a new vest boots and scarf hat and gloves that match the vest. Shopping always makes me feel better, plus I was out of the house and away from DH for awhile. Sorry if I was sounding crabby at any time. I would rather have 10 sick kids then 1 sick hubby. Well I must dash as he is feeling lonely as I have been gone most of the day.Take care and I will be back in tomorrow.

01-13-2007, 07:38 PM
Hi girls

I need to trade in a teenager (drama Queen) for a large pizza No just kidding...only 5 more years to go then she goes to college. :carrot:

A funny thing happened at the gym. I was working out like crazy, listening to music from my head-phones. The manager walks up and asked when I would be done. It seems the place was closing down--everybody but me had already left. I was so into my workout I didn't even notice. :o

Kim: Praying for your friend in Austin...Phone her and being you have a computer, when you can take time make a bunch of cards and send one every day with your love...Really meant a lot to a friend of mine who was in the hospital for a long time...just a suggestion honey...

01-13-2007, 08:18 PM
lubajo ~ What a sweet idea! I must remember that for future reference!

Sorry for the quick exit out of here earlier, my DD and the kids totally surprised us this morning with their visit. We had just gotten back from the grocery store and finished putting everything away, and were wondering if anyone would show up today. We had a real nice day, and I made a nice dinner of grilled chicken, ricotta-stuffed portobella mushrooms, and a strawberry spinach salad. Yum!
Everyone around here is gearing up to watch the big Eagles game tonight. That's all everyone is talking about. I'm not a sports fan, but I hope they win. Seems all our home teams cave in under pressure, and it's time to break the curse. There will probably be a lot of wild celebrating around here if they win!
Well, I haven't had time to sit and relax all day, so I'm going to put on my nightie, make a pot of tea, and curl up with my book for the rest of the night.

To all of you experiencing the terrible ice storms right now, stay in and be safe. :grouphug:

little chick
01-13-2007, 09:23 PM
cottage- can you post the strawberry spinach salad recipie please.

01-13-2007, 09:34 PM
Cottage Glad that you got to enjoy some time with your DD and grandkids. Your dinner sounds yummy! I made the Fireside Soup again tonight and thought of you. Yum!!

LC Gotta love the retail therapy!!

I am beginning to wonder if the meterologists have over exaggerated the weather forecast for us as they have every worried, but it really hasn't been bad.

Okay, going to log off and make a cup of tea. I could climb into bed right now, but my best friend and I have made a "phone date" at 9:00. It seems we never get a chance to really talk these days, so thought if we set a time it would be easier.

Have a good night all!

01-13-2007, 10:45 PM
WildWoman - The girls are 3½ and 1½. Not really old enough to expect them to keep things picked up the way I'd like.

Kim - Prayers for your friend. I hope they're able to find what's causing her bleeding and get everything under control.

Kiko - Good to see your forecast was at least partly wrong. I think they do that on be the good guy when things don't turn out as bad as they want you to believe they might be. It's only when things are worse than they forecast that they get all the hate mail!!

I made meatball casserole tonight. The meat was good, but I'll keep experimenting with the pasta sauce. I tried a new organic variety, but it was too twangy for my taste. Made some spaghetti for the girls to go with it and they both dug in.

As soon as my sheets are dry and I get the bed made, I'm crawling in. It's a whole 18º out, and that's about as warm as it's going to get for the next couple of days.

01-13-2007, 11:06 PM
DH and I just got back from some errands - we got a late start as I did not even get showered today until about 5:30 as I was sick again last night and was terribly unmotivated all day. I am usually pretty healthy, so it is beginning to wear thin! I am trying to stick to SB as much as possible, but there are moments when saltines are the only thing that sounds good to eat!

We are expecting freezing rain tonight - it seems the ice and cold is hiting many of us. The strangest winter weather. It was at least 50 yesterday and the forcasted high for Tuesday is 27. :dizzy:

Hope everyone has a great and relaxing Saturday night!

01-13-2007, 11:43 PM
Littlechick ~ I'm going to post my Strawberry Spinach salad right now in the Phase 2 Salads. Very yummy, we love it! Thanks for asking for it. How's DH doing? I'm glad you were able to get out of the house this morning for a bit of "me" time.

01-14-2007, 12:32 AM
Hello everyone...sorry I'm on here so late, but I couldn't get on this morning....unlike Ms. Schatzi we had ice (not 74!!) so I had to chisel my car free this morning so I could goto work (I was about 6 mins late - darn!)
Then I cheated this evening. My fiance called me at work & asked if I want to goto the Pistons game (YES!!) So we went to the game & I had 1/2 of a chicken caesar wrap (yuck!) and way too much popcorn. But the game was great - Pistons beat the Celtics & are tickets were free & we had VIP parking. Our seats we right behind the Boston bench. We had fun, but I cheated....tomorrow is another day - ON PLAN!
Still to find some veggies...

01-14-2007, 08:30 AM
Quick check in today. I'll be back to read later. Sorry to hear about the weather worries. We are about to get it up here - a normal Canadian winter at last! :(

Yesterday was a good day for getting stuff done and also for food! The damned scale is still the same this morning! I guess I'm still paying for part of the blip from the stir-fry sauce last week. Q. Will I ever learn? A. No!

After Church coffee treat this morning will be my Bacardi rum cake. It was specially requested by one of the guys last week. I will resist it even though it is my birthday. I have an Open House to survive this afternoon and then will be going to dinner at Claire and Doug's house. Today will test my resolve but I do have coping strategies - I just get ambushed sometimes.

The Girls need a bit of cuddling so I'm going to do that before I get ready for Church. Catch y'all later.

01-14-2007, 09:15 AM
Psssst-Today's RUTH'S BIRTHDAY!!!
:hb: :hb: :hb: :woo: :gift: :balloons: :woo: :gift: :hb: :hb: :hb:

I'm sending you warm wishes for a wonderful day today, and enjoy a piece of your Rum Cake, too!

01-14-2007, 09:56 AM
Happy Birthday Ruth!!!!! :cb: :cb: :hb: :cb: :cb:

01-14-2007, 10:03 AM
I went to the potluck last night and did OK for a while, followed phase 1 the first hour then moved into phase 2 the second (wine and fresh fruit added) then moved right up to phase 4 or 5 or 9 by the end of the evening. Back to a phase 1 breakfast this morning, and have my phase 1 lunch packed ready to go to work.

Stinger, my drama queen is only 9!

Little Chick, what kind of dance?

Good morning, JanaM.

Off to work now. We have the white we didn't have for Christmas, with a layer of ice underneath.

01-14-2007, 10:26 AM
Happy Birthday, Ruth!!

Morning, all. Been a long day already. I think it was 5:30 when I was forced out of bed. Toss a re-aggravated back (yes, again...darn it) and a bad case of PMS on top, and I shouldn't be allowed near other people today. :bomb:

01-14-2007, 10:43 AM
:hat: :hat: :hat: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RUTH!!!! :hat: :hat: :hat:

Schatzi: Where in NC are you from? I just moved to Clayton/Raleigh from Concord (right outside of Charlotte). I miss Concord a lot, but am loving our new place out here. I live in Clayton and work in Raleigh.

LC: I agree! Retail therapy is great! Did some of that yesterday at the biggest flea market I have ever been to. It is at the state fairgrounds. I should have worn a pedometer! My legs are still hurting from all the walking we did! Definitely going back there again. Lots of homemade jewelry (a weakness of mine)

I am very excited to scream to the world that, after my first week on South Beach, I have lost 8 pounds! I'm so beyond tickled; I just can't stand it! I'm going to get my nails done today as a reward. Can't wait!

I hope you all have a great day today!

01-14-2007, 11:44 AM
I just got back from a very pleasant morning at Mom & Dad's. It's super foggy here today, but mild. Jake wants to go out later to Home Depot and I need to make a run to Trader Joe's, so I hope the fog lifts by then.
There are a lot of long faces around these parts today, due to the Eagles losing last night. Jake had the game on, and although I'm not a sports fan, it looked like they played a good game.
Nothing much else going on here today. DS and family will probably come over later for supper. I may make Beachgal's Incredible Chocolate Cake. The recipe sounds good, but my big problem will be portion control. Maybe I'll just freeze the leftover, or even better, send the rest home with DS.;) I want my scale to give me a good report at tomorrow's weigh-in!

01-14-2007, 01:37 PM
It's almost 9:30 here in the Pacific North West corner of the world and I am just now able to sit down for a few.

I had a very early start (not unusual for me) so after my DH and I read I made him breakfast...then made mine:) ...I cook two different dishes each meal because DH works out all the time and can eat a whole lot more than I and still maintain his weight.

I started cleaning out drawers and couldn't quit! I found at least five more bags of stuff to cart off to DD's house for her garage sale. She called me this morning saying "Mom, I can't go through these personal boxes you gave me because they are full of your personal papers and journals" So of course I told her to bring them back and I will go through them...thought they were gone forever.

I wish I had time to comment on each and evreyone's post but this is a hectic morning. I needed to just come here and read your posts to get perspective on things. I do not want to blow all the good I have done in the last 12 days so need this site more than food!

Please have a great rest of the weekend gals...those of you who love football, enjoy the Seahawk's game...DH is watching it as I type!

Love you sis...really wish I could come down in Feb...not possible.

01-14-2007, 01:43 PM
Morning gals!

:hat: :hb: :gift: :woo: :balloons:
Happy Birthday Ruth!!!!!!

Ruth Enjoy your special day!!!!!!

Jet I hate days like that! Especially since as a mom of little ones, there is no chance of alone time. Do your girls both nap? My 19 month old does, but not the older one (she is 5). She is good about letting me cat nap or curl up with a book which is nice.

Cottage I am dying to try that chocolate cake recipe, but know that I am not that in control yet to not eat the whole thing!!

Blue WTG on an 8 pound loss!! :carrot: That is something to feel good about. :)

Rebel I am cracking up at your description of your evening. That is exactly what I did on New Year's Eve. Although I am sure that the Fritos I consumed that night would rank on a Phase 20!! Today is a new day!!

Me- Went to church this morning, there were very few people there in comparison to most Sundays. I am mentoring a 6th grade confirmation girl and we were supposed to meet this morning as a big group and do ice breaker activities. I was worried that she would be there and I wouldn't. The reverse happened as she wasn't there. Oh well!

Not much else on the agenda for the day- we are home for the afternoon as they are still thinking the weather is getting bad. I was OP yesterday, but too many grains and way too many peanuts!! Monday is going to be my WI day at school, but we don't have school tomorrow, so it will be Tuesday. Plenty of time to use the flush theory of as much water as my body can handle.

Gotta go, the troops are wanting lunch..... I feel like such a short order cook somedays! :chef:

01-14-2007, 01:49 PM

"A well adjusted woman is one who not
only knows what she wants for her birthday, but
even knows what she's going to exchange it for"
Wishing you the best BIRTHDAY ever!

01-14-2007, 02:47 PM
Back from Church and have done a few niggles. Aside from my rum cake which I resisted, the idiots had champagne! Gotta love the Anglicans! Canines and champers in Church!

Thanks for the BD greetings. There's lots of mileage left on this chassis. :cb:

01-14-2007, 04:58 PM
Morning ladies, and Happy Birthday Ruth! :hb:

I jumped on the scales last night and I've lost another 3kg (6.6lbs) bringing my total weight loss for 4 days to 11lbs

Time to update my ticker!

01-14-2007, 06:29 PM
WOW sounds like you all are doing so well-I, on the other hand SUCK-scale up and down and hovering areound where I started in spite of working out a bunch-my thing is I justify my bad food by-gee I worked out at the gym over 2 hours-I deserve buttered popcorn etc..... I have been doing pretty well during the day-but it is so cold here I have been crawling into bed and watchig dvd's and EATING-NO NO NO NO BAD BAD BAD-and then last night i mixed up a package of bronies (NOT SBD) and ate most of them. Today I am taking a day off at the gym to rest-but I feel like I need to start over entirely here.
On the other hand the waves of cellulite don't keep rolling as I jog on the treadmill-could feel it with each step before-I swear-and I HATE that the treadmills are the front row of cardio machines at the gym-dont want to think what the view was like from behind. But at least I am toning up-also startig to see definition on my arms.

01-14-2007, 06:40 PM
I haven't done any exercise as yet, I'm trying to let my body get used to it's new fuel before I exert myself. I've been tempted MULTIPLE times (fiance eating HOT FRIES, friends offering me CHOCOLATE, eating dinner at a pancake house, the list goes on) and I am so proud for not caving.

01-14-2007, 07:55 PM
I didn't make that cake today, after all. I decided it would be too tempting to have in the house today, since I've had a case of the "munchies" all day long. I've learned something, though, that I should listen to my body. For breakfast this morning I wanted oatmeal, but had eggs instead, and I believe that just got my cravings going. Just 2 hours after eating the eggs I felt as hungry as if I hadn't eaten breakfast at all. I'm happy to say that I just beared with it and have stayed totally OP all day. :carrot: I'm going to make a ricotta creme with fresh strawberries for my dessert in a bit, and that will be it for the day. Whew!

01-14-2007, 08:07 PM
:hb: :gift: :hat: :woo: :balloons:

Happppppppppppppy Birthday Ruth

Here's a genie in a bottle so you can have 3 wishes :genie:

01-14-2007, 08:48 PM
I've been soooo bad today!! Seems I've replaced eating with online shopping!! The check card didn't scream too loud, but none of it was in the budget. One of my purchases was a set of Turbo Jam DVDs. I'll have to actually use them to kill the guilt.

Time to put the girls to bed. Hope y'all are enjoying the evening.

01-14-2007, 09:06 PM
Cottage Good for you for knowing that the cake would have been too tempting! Did DS wind up coming over for dinner?

Jet Better than eating, right?? Hope bedtime is easy and uneventful for you. My two have been playing dressup and running around the house. I think they are wearing themselves out which is fine by me.

Ruth Now, I never call someone with champange an idiot!!

WildW You can do this!! Maybe a few days of Phase 1 to recleanse your body??

I have been the biggest slug today!! Spent a quality hour with my 5 year old snuggling on the couch and doing a little sewing project she got for her birthday. Other than that, not much of anything. Laundry is still caught up (yeah me!) and I have prepared and cleaned up 3 meals. That is about it! Great football on today, both games have been fantastic!

Some SF jello and a book are on the agenda for tonight- no work tomorrow. Yippee!! :carrot:

Night girlies!
