South Beach Diet - Phase I - Week of January 8

One week of P1 down, and I'm down 4 pounds woohoooo!
I might not lose much this week as I'm PMSing, but yeah well I'll finally have to accept the fact that I'll have a week every month where I can't lose and even possibly gain a few pounds! So unfair!

I've got week one of PH1 down here as well and i'm down 3lbs. Yipee.. It's nice to see the numbers go down, but it seems its never fast enough once they start moving lol. I'm looking for a good group to help keep me on track. I've lost my diet buddy and it would be good to have a group to check in with so that I stay committed.

One week in and I'm down 5 pounds - this is my first week ever doing South Beach, and I have to say that it's not as hard as I thought! I love my carbs, but cutting them out hasn't been so difficult. I do indulge myself a little, though, and could probably cut down on the string cheeses, but they're so good! Oh, and I have bleu cheese dressing on my lunch salads, because I just hate the taste of vinaigrette. I had one drink this whole week, but that was it - and it was a vodka tonic.
I've tried some of the recipes in the book and they are great so far. And I think having the support here in the forums will be great.

Great job, everyone!! I'm envious. Think I must be doing something wrong, because after 1 week I was exactly where I started. This week, I'm going to keep a very close eye on how much as well as what.

One week and I am down 3. ALso am feeling good about the fact my knee high boots are not as snug on my calves-can zip them right up, and when I take them off-there's not the major wrinkles from them being too tight. yippee!
Made a cheesecake last night-it actually turned out to be pretty good-I am quite pleased, maybe I should have written down what all I put in there. LOL
Jetsetter-hang in there-I'm sure it will start droping soon. I would suggest always keep a water bottle with you if you are not now-and eat lots of veggies. Maybe take your measurements-maybe you've had a NSV (non-scale victory)

Started phase 1 today!!! I had 2 kids in roughly 2 years, and last year I spent the majority of the year working out, but not "dieting" - didn't LOSE A POUND!! Got really toned though! Towards the end of the year - I quit going to the gym all together - so... now, back to the gym and going to add healthy eating!! We'll see what happens!!

I started P1 today and so far things are going well. I was on SBD for the first part of last year, so at least this time around I know what I can expect! I do have a headache, but I think that's because I cut down on the caffaine (1 can of Diet Coke instead of 3 or 4). Tonight's dinner will be Chicken with Thai Peanut Sauce (a FAV of mine, even when I went O(ff)P!!) and a huge salad. YUM-O.
I should probably get back to work (shhhh...I won't tell if you won't)
Have a good rest of the day ladies!!

Okay how come all of a sudden I am craving sweets? Last week was a breeze, the week passed without me having a single craving, now all I can think about is food, last night I literally had to run away from my 3 year old niece because she was having french fries! I am drinking plenty of water, I'm not really sure what changed this week :(

BornConfuzed, are you eating legumes? Are you having your dairy? Those good carbs will help with the cravings. Good for you in resisting the fries - running away is good exercise!

Things are still going ok here. I seem to be hungry a lot lately though. Not sure what changed or why, but i'm gonna have to look into it cuz i'm starting to get cranky lol. I've managed to stay on plan probably because i've been so busy at work. I'm a 3rd party retailer and I have audits at best buy this week. So basically i'm on my feet all day walking around and around and around the store checking things. Not a bad job, but you are tired of seeing stores by the end of the week lol. It will definatley kill a shopping bug. Well hope everyone is doing well this bright shiney morning. i'll check back in later on.

Day 9, and I think I'm gonna be okay. :) Bought dried beans to make my next batch of chili (going to put them in the crock pot tonight before I go to bed and make chili tomorrow evening). Switched to Silk soymilk creamer now that I know FF Half & Half should be very limited...it's just not the same with milk. I also think maybe I was eating too many nuts. I've (inadvertently) skipped dessert the last 2 days, and it's making a difference. I'd been having natural peanut butter at that point, which would probably be okay, but not every. single. day...at least not for me.
I'm going to stay on Phase 1 an extra week since I wasn't following the program as well as I thought I was for most of the first week. The cravings are definitely going away. I was looking at the TGI Friday's menu on Saturday night because I thought I wanted to go out to dinner. I turned up my nose at all the breaded, fat-laden, sauce-covered, suger-infused junk. And that's one of my favorite places to eat!!

HI!!! well, yesterday went GREAT! down 3.5 pounds (but partly b/c of that time of the month yesterday), late afternoon is the KICKER!! My husband who is taking off some this week and I both were dying before dinner... I love to cook, and I made the 'mini-greek meatballs' for dinner served with a yummy salad and celery sticks with hummos - kind of a fun sassy dinner - the kids ate everything and they had some pasta on the side. My hubby and I are not big pasta people - so it wasn't a challenge to fix it for them! So, we'll see how the rest of the week goes!

I wanted to weigh in, I have just over 100 lbs to lose to goal. I read somewhere that if you were "obese" (ugly word!) You could stay on phase one for a longer period of time. What do you guys think?

Hello!
Day 2 for me and so far so good, although I may have had too much salad dressing yesterday. Down two pounds from yesterday but I think it's just cuz I drank so much water and it all left! This is why I'm only weighing myself once a week.
Question: I can't seem to find the "Chicks on the Beach" subforum without searching for it. After I go to Forum, where do I click?
Also... are we supposed to have low-fat mayo or full-fat mayo? I seemed to recall that there was a spot in the book that said have full-fat, but the recipe for cilantro mayonnaise said low-fat. I'm confused!!!
Modified that recipe -- substituted chives for the cilantro and lemon juice for the lime, and YUMMY!

Some of the recipes are screwy in the book. Here's the real stuff from the Revised Phase I Food List which is in the FAQ Section of this SOuth BEach forum:
Mayonnaise - Regular - 1 TBS
Mayonnaise - Low Fat - 2 TBS (avoid varieties made with high fructose corn syrup)
Salad Dressing - 2 TBS. Use those that contain 3 grams of sugar or less per 2 TBS. Best choices contain canola or olive oil. Low carb salad dressings may also be used if they meet these guidelines. I hope this helps.
When you go into the main Forum, scroll down and you'll find the South Beach Diet section after teh Weight Watcher Section. I hope this helps. You can also add the South Beach Forum to your List of Favourites - bookmark it.

:welcome: to The Beach, Tracie. Phase I is missing a lot of nutrients that you would get from grains and fruits so is not recommended for longer than two weeks.
By the way, I'll copy your post andf mine into the Phase I Thread and close this one as it was really just one for Cate to announce her loss.

Okay, so now I am confused...
Jet...so we are NOT supposed to have FF half and half? I drink it in my coffee daily. :( Not good? I have been eating nuts too, and I havent really been counting them out. I just grab a handful to snack on.
thanks...learning learning learning....

Tracie - I'm not positive, and don't have my books in front of me right now. However, I think (and only think, don't take my word as gospel!!) it's kinda like peanut butter...2 Tbsp a day. The Silk creamer is really pretty good.
Joshua - Welcome aboard!!
Shelby - I'd suggest bookmarking http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=113 That's the section link for the SBD forums. :)
This is Day 10 on P1 for me. I got on the scale this morning for a mid-week weigh and I'm down 2 pounds from Saturday when I started over, re-vamped, improved my effort...whatever you want to call it. I'm happy to see a number I haven't seen since mid-2004. I'd been stuck between 217 and 223 for so long, I didn't think I'd ever break out!
How's everyone else doing today?
Thirties
01-12-2007, 12:27 PM
Hi I am in my mid-thirties. I wanted to finally lose weight after so many years of trying. I have been on the SBD, started it on the 8th of January 2007. So far, so good. Lost 8 lbs already. It was really a struggle on the first 3 days. I am on my 4th day and yet I am already adjusted. In fact, my siblings were eating ice cream in front of me but my strong desire to lose some weight this time, gave me the willpower to control myself from giving in. It was hard but well worth the sacrifice because I continued to lose weight. If I am really craving for sweets, I just drink tea, I put creamer and splenda in it so it somehow satisfies my sweet tooth. I sometimes eat peanuts or walnuts together with my tea and it somehow satisfy me and the cravings is gone.:carrot:

I am a little bit shocked at the amount of weight I've lost. I'm eating 5-6 times a day on SBD and losing weight rapidly. Should I stay on P1? Is it ok...I did this diet before and lost 7 lbs on P1. Any thoughts?? I've been having hot flashes and headaches also.

And I was doing so well. I went to a make-your-own-sushi party last night. I was snacking on the edamame and resisting the pocky and the dumplings and the weird crunchy sweet Japanese snacks. When it came time to actually make the sushi, I stuck to the fat free cream cheese and asparagus and salmon and a little bit of avocado and seaweed. No rice, no matter how good it looked!
But the red wine? I brought a bottle, everyone else brought a bottle. I was four glasses in by the end of the night, and while the food I ate was definitely OP, I have a sinking feeling the wine's going to be a killer come weigh-in tomorrow morning.
I'm kicking myself, and thinking of staying on P1 for three more days to make up for it before I start reintroducing carbs. But I know that overcompensating might not make any difference. Any advice for the slip up?
Ruthxxx
01-14-2007, 02:44 PM
Heather, good going. However, just do Phase I for the two week period - longer is not advised.
Jenny, the wine may not screw up your weigh-in. No need to stay extra time on Phase I unless it sets off carb cravings.

I've been avoiding alcohol like the plague, even when everyone around me is drinking. I feel much better for it, no hangovers etc.
I did have hot flashes yesterday, and (excuse if TMI) a nasty case of splatbum last night...I think my body must be detoxing? I haven't had any polyols so I don't think it's diet related.

I swear, alcohol is where I lose my willpower. I don't drink often, but when I get around friends and good wine, it's a real trigger. And splatbum may be finding its way into my vocabulary whenever I find myself in a sitaution where the topic comes up (which isn't often!)
I think I'm losing my mind, though - I could swear I saw a Sticky in one of these forums that had some great advice for transitioning into phase 2. Am I imagining it, or was this a real thread? I'd love to reread it to gear up for Tuesday.

Ok, i'm a bit bummed and I know I shouldnt be. Tomorrow is weigh in for me and I snuck on this morning.. i managed to lose a grand total of 1/2 a pound this week. The kicker is that I started my period on Tuesday so some of it's from that and the fact that I sorta added in some P2 items to help me get thru the menstrual blues. If I weren't on the diet it would have been brownies and ice cream instead of Kashi go lean crunch and whole wheat tortillas so I'm proud of myself there, but I just wish I would have seen more of a drop on the scale. I'm sure next week will be better, but until then i'm gonna be in a mood LOL..

OKAY CHICKS...what is up? I have stopped losing weight on PHASE 1. I lost like 7 lbs in the first week...then nothing. Not really helping with the will power. I am getting ready to have my period though. UGH....any suggestions? I am getting frusterated.
~Tracie
Tracie,
7 pounds in the first week is AWESOME!! :cp: There are many of us on the boards who have done a perfect Phase 1 for two weeks and not lost anywhere near that amount. Just stick with it and you will be fine!! Also, really look at your program and evaluate if you are strictly following the food lists. Again, no need to give up or be frustrated- 7 pounds is fantastic!! TOM also could have a lot to do with what you are feeling is a stall. Don't Give Up!! :cheer2:
