35 minutes on the treadmill;

Signed up for Fun Run 10K on February 10th!

Goal is 1500 minutes of exercise for the month of January, which averages about 60 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Aggressive. YES. But Hawaii awaits me in 7 weeks!
:strong: :swim: :beach:

A few minutes of stretching.

I want to do the couch to 5K program but it is hard living in MN to do it...

I will do 30 minutes of elliptical, 10 minutes on the excercise ball doing abs, and 10 minutes on the punching bag when I get home today. This is my standard workout when I work out.

Guess I'll move this over here--didn't realize we had 2 areas.

Beachbody Power 90 (P90)--cardio. First time back in too long!

Last night did my girls DanceDanceRevolution--geez--that thing is a LOT harder than it looks!! Definitely got my heart rate up.

Did 31 minutes on the treadmill; covered a little over 2 miles.
I did a crazy thing and signed up for Boot Camp starting next week. We meet from 5:15 AM to 6:15 AM three mornings a week. I signed up for 4 weeks, 3 days a week. I can't wait to post about this experience. It looks like there are only about 7 ladies signed up so the camp could get pretty intense.

Hey! I did my regular 2 mile walk and snuck in 2 extra laps! I'm able to finish my 2 mile in less time, so I thought: might as well... maybe eventually I can do 2.5 miles or even 3 miles during my lunch break!!

Jan 3 - 30 min walk
Jan 4 - 30 min stationary bike

Joni135
01-04-2007, 10:15 PM
Did a 60 minute class at the gym and I hurt all over (lots of squats and lunges which I absolutely cannot stand, but need those the most!). I tried to stick around and do some Mat Pilates, but my mind/body said "are you nuts?" so I went by the grocery; got some good eats and picked up TBL magazine to read tonight (or on the bike/treadmill/elliptical tomorrow if I can walk!).

Okay girls...tomorrow starts my 20 minutes a day Elliptical workout. I have been putting it off because I've been in a funk and after getting caught up on all the posts I am newly revived and motivated.

This week I am going for 5 days @ 20 minutes a pop.

WE CAN DO IT!

Bootcamp (60 minutes - 5:15 AM to 6:15 AM consisted of a lot of running, upper body weights, situps, more running, jumping rope....and it takes place outside....chilly but invigorating!)
15 minutes on the elliptical at the gym

Go Nikki and Deb!! LeaAnn - are you back to Power90??

Kimphin
01-08-2007, 11:14 AM
Joni - how was it?

OK, yesterday I did 20 min on treadmill and a Bowflex workout. I think I did something to my wrist, though, it's killing me.

Today - nothing. I have a meeting tonight so I'm missing my Body Pump class. Boo.

Joni135
01-08-2007, 11:56 AM
Bootcamp was good - but not challenging enough. I'm sure she'll pick it up next class. Kim, hope your wrist gets better; have you iced it? If you haven't injured yourself, try some of these great wrist exercises.

Kimphin

Thanks for the site, Joni - I did a few of those stretches and it feels better. I think that I aggravated it doing push-ups. It's a lotta weight to put on those itty bitty joints!

Maybe the boot camp instructor was just easing you into it?

Joni135
01-08-2007, 04:29 PM
Lea Ann - I'm telling you....that's exactly why I joined this Boot Camp...just to get me back in the groove of getting up and working out. I used to fly out of bed at 5 AM and head for the gym. It had been MONTHS since I did it. Find a Boot Camp in TX; better yet, start one up in your neighborhood. I think this would be easy to start up... All this gal really did for us was
(1) run a few laps around a small parking lot
(2) some easy stretches for warm up
(3) another lap around the parking lot
(4) 10 push ups
(5) bunch of knee taps
(6) couple more laps around the parking lot
(7) using 5-8 lb weights, upper body stuff (lateral raises, front raises, military press)
(8) more laps and jumped roap
(9) using a partner we did sit ups (hold down partner's ankles) and these leg raise things where you lay down head to head, grasp arms and then raise your legs until your toes touch each others; and the third one was me laying face down, holding her ankles and swinging my legs and fat arse up and then when it got to the top she pushes them down and I just keep doing it (for a minute - each one)
(10) more upper body using 5-8 lb weights, upper body stuff (lateral raises, front raises, military press)
(11) more laps
(11) stretching - go home

Kim - glad those helped. I actually found myself going through those wrist exercises, and my wrists are fine....at least for today they are!

Kimphin

I'd still be facedown in the parking lot....

I had signed up for the 3 month thing a few years ago. It was OK. Not terribly challenging, but it did get me there 3x/week for 3 months. It was good for consistency, and not feeling like you were the biggest whale next to a size 0 spandex queen.

Well, I think that's just what Liz needs.. Some consistancy.. We've found that with even just a little extra exercise, the weight comes off faster, so I think that's just what she needs... Neither of us likes to work out alone (schedules and children make it hard for us to do it together except at home), but she has a couple of friends down the street who want to start working out too, so we'll see how it goes...

Have any of you seen the infomercial for the Fluidity bar? Well, I got it about a month ago. It's supposed to give you a "dancer's body". I have to say that I just LOVE it!!!! And that's not a usual thing for me to love exercise:) I'm still on the Beginner DVD...it's tough!

Anyway, did that last night and treadmill this morning.

Friday, Jan 12 Boot Camp - 5:15 AM to 6:15 AM
10 minutes upper body

Emmysmom - I had not heard of the Fluidity Bar so I checked out their website. Pretty cool. I'd have to find someone selling it cheap, though, if I want to add to my growing collection of home gym products. Looks like it costs $200 on their site. Keep on dancin!!

Kim - hope your wrist is feeling better. Tendonitis isn't fun.

HI Guys, I think I will post here since my focus right now is on exercise. I have put the scale away and I am going by how I feel and look in my clothes.
I just got back from a new class at my gym called core commotion- it was very tough.
My butt has been so sore this last week, everytime I bend over I feel like my pelvis is going to pop through the back.
I am contemplating going back tonight for yoga

Joni135
01-15-2007, 02:47 PM
Lisa - yeah....company! I, too, needed to focus on something other than food, so this thread helps me out. Never heard of core commotion....what did they do that made your butt hurt so bad??? I keep saying I'm going to go do yoga, but haven't made it yet.

Kimphin
01-16-2007, 10:49 AM
Didn't get to gym yesterday - ice, boo! Of course, I could have compensated by getting on my treadmill... oh well, it's a new day!

Joni135
01-16-2007, 11:48 AM
45 minutes on the treadmill
15 minutes stretch

Tina - I keep looking at the fluidity bar....it's still over $200 on ebay...so no go for me! I may have to rent a DVD on the Bar Method (hey, Juliemarie, Netflix has one New York Bar Ballet workout or something like that!).

Kim - I like how you threw in sleep after exercise!

emmysmom
01-16-2007, 12:01 PM
The fluidity bar is expensive, Joni, but I really do love it. They have a payment plan if you buy it direct. It's like $40/month. The really neat thing is that my 3-year-old does it with me. She goes to gymnastics so I guess the bar makes her feel like she's doing her gymnastics. My husband says he could see my hips and thighs thinning out, so it must be working!

Kimphin
01-16-2007, 01:08 PM
Joni - since I've started working out, I can barely stay awake past 9:30! I haven;t slept this good in years!

ljackson
01-16-2007, 01:54 PM
Joni- I am sore from doing Turbo kick over the weekend. Core commotion is lots of squats and lunges while doing upper body work with hand weights, all while keepeng your core engaged. It was an hour long and she pushed us the entire time- only about 2 minutes of stretching at the end.
I never made it to yoga last night, it was snowing and I just felt like curling up under a blanket.
I am back in the groove of working out because today is my day off from the gym and I have the urge to go. I get nervous that a day off will turn in to another and another and before you know it it has been a week. But I need to recover, I am so sore.

Joni135

Great job ladies! I need to try a boxing class at the gym some day.

Boot Camp - 5:15 AM to 6:15 AM
(really good workout today; we did something called the Indian Run; there are 5 girls jogging and we stay close together in line. The last person in the line has to sprint to the front of the line; when she gets to the front, the last person in line sprints to the front, and you keep going and going. We did a mile, but doing those mini sprints really kept the pace going strong and forced me to go at a much quicker pace).. After our 1 mile run it was lots of squats, push ups, jumping rope, jumping jacks, etc.
30 minute (2 mile) walk on treadmill at gym

NSV for me- Today TOM came and I had the perfect excuse to skip my workout, but since I have not been able to in a week due to working extra I knew I needed to go and get back in the groove. I did 30 min on the ellipitical and a few sets of upper arm work. Not much but better than nothing!

Kimphin
01-24-2007, 01:41 PM
Joni - cardiocoach.com - it is a coached workout for spin bikes, or ellipicals or treadmills. I used it on my tread, but I think it would have been easier to change incline/resistance/speed on a bike or ellip. I was pushing a lot of buttons for the first couple of challenges.

There are different volumes you can purchase, the one I used was #1 - 40 minutes long and included a warm up, 5 hill climbs with 30 second recoveries, then 3 sprints with short recoveries, then a 2 minute recovery with a 3 minute run and 40second speed burst. You determine your speeds and incline levels. The coach (guy - great voice!) gives you little motivational talks, and there are 10 second count-ups and downs for any speed changes. The music is .... OK, this one was tribal, survivor-y music and was more or less the same through the whole thing.

For me it was good, because I am competitive as hell, but I would not have pushed myself as hard as this did.

Ok.. I went and joined QuickGym, the "10-minute" workout place.. My skepticism was ended by the end of my first workout.. Damn!! The machine forces you to use muscles you never knew you had..

For it to work you have to go all out.. It give you a target setting based on weight and height and you have to stay above it.. At first I was doing really well and stayed well above, but by the end, I was sucking wind..

It's basically 4 minutes on the "rowing" portion of the machine and then another 4 minutes on the attached stairmaster-esque portion.. The 2 minutes extra are there if you want to do a little more, or just take a break between exercises..

They recommend a combined workout three times a week, or doing one portion one day and then the other the next.. They do not recommend doing the combined exercise two days in a row.. I'll see how I do with the combined for a week and then maybe split it up.. However, I did like the heart rate boost I got from the combined last night. I could tell, even a half hour later that my heart rate was still elevated, which is the point..

We'll see in a month if my BMI is lower..

Kimphin
01-24-2007, 04:55 PM
Dan - sounds really cool - I've never heard of this.

Warning - your muscles really start to hurt 24 hours after a workout. Like, almost to the minute!

So far so good.. The only pain I've really had has been some of my stomach muscles... I'm dreading tomorrow a bit, as I'll be doing my BMI test.. but I'm all paid up there, so I'd better damn well "get 'er done!"...

I did it...got in 1500 minutes of exercise for the month of January. In order to get there this morning I had to work out ... a lot!

Boot Camp - 5:15 AM to 6:15 AM (60 minutes)
Treadmill (45 minutes; 3.10 miles)
Upper body weights: 20 minutes
