Support Groups - "Every-Day" 21-Day Challenge -- Getting in the habit!!

01-01-2007, 04:08 AM
Okay, everyone, as is the tradition, I start a new thread when I personally start a new challenge.

Below is a short explanation of how this challenge works so all you newcomers can take a look and decide if you're game or not! I hope you are! Hop aboard and enjoy the ride. We've got a great bunch of supportive people, so I hope you'll give us a try. A lot of people try for a while and then disappear.. I hope some of you will keep trying. There is NO shame in starting over. Remember, it's not over till you give up. And our motto around here is:

NEVER GIVE UP!!...Just start OVER!!

It works like this: you decide you'll do something for 21 days straight, every single day, so keep it doable. Then you count through 21.....and if you flub it, you MUST go back to zero and start over again. Everyone will be on different days. You can start anytime. At the beginning of the challenge you declare what level it is -- Level 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 means you feel it's a relatively easy challenge for you and means you only give yourself ONE pause day (see explanation of pause days below). Level 2 would give you two pause days and so on...
And taking NO pause days is what I'm going to call "aceing a challenge," as in "I'm aiming on aceing this one!" Yowzah!! :cb:

With a pause day you pause in your counting and continue the next day with the number you left off with. Pause days are NOT substitutes for days, i.e. Day 12 -- Day 13 -- Pause Day -- Day 14..... I suggest taking a pause day late in the game (better to go back to Day 1 early on) if you need a break or screw up when you're well into the challenge, meaning, when you're on Day 15 or something like that.

In any case, the trick is to keep going. The momentum builds and it's great incentive to stick to your guns, cause if you don't.........back to START you go. :( And the really great thing about this challenge is that you are forming new habits that will wipe out the old! AND, you get to do it with a great bunch of really supportive people to whom you are accountable! :grouphug:

In the interest of maintaining structure, a sense of solidarity and facilitating support I ask anyone who wishes to join this thread to please strive to follow the following guidelines while participating in this challenge and in posting.

1. Although this is a fabulous support group, the focus is to be on your CHALLENGE/S and/or other people's challenge/s AND weight loss, whether your challenge is about it or not. Please keep the challenge a priority, although we welcome chattiness! This means tell us what day you're on when you post and it's a good idea to make regular mention of just what your challenge is. This an action-based thread. Our members are ON a challenge, RESTARTING a challenge, or just in between and looking to start up again REAL SOON. ;) We also welcome posts from admirers, encouragers, and old friends!

2. Please refrain from posting food logs or recipes, except where you are really looking for help and advice on your eating. If journaling is your challenge, please keep the journaling off the thread and in a notebook or blog and just tell us if you've done what you set out to do. We have ALL types of dieters here, low-carb, high-carb, low-fat, high-fat, vegetarians, meat-lovers...please use simple mentions if you have something you want to share and then links and/or private messages to do so.

3. Please do NOT go into glowing accounts of any slipups, food indulgences or binges, what we here call "food porn." Simple mentions are fine, but use of smilies :censored: :tape: etc. as substitutes where possible is encouraged.

4. Please keep this a secular thread. Of course, passing references to your beliefs, a bit of introduction about your beliefs, brief faith-related words of encouragement are fine.

5. Please show support, support, support! This is key. :grouphug: You can waffle on about yourself but please, at least occasionally, come up and look around at others and what they are doing and MENTION it with words of encouragement and/or praise or sympathy. We understand "busy," poor computer connections, and bouts of self-pity and life problems where the focus turns to "me" and dealing with those problems, but these should be temporary, not a habit! ('cept in the computer case.)

In conclusion, let me say, the above are just that, GUIDELINES. Please realize that these guidelines have been added in an attempt to keep this a supportive and beneficial thread, at the LEAST, to those who need it MOST, those for whom weight loss is the hardest and, more often than not, the most crucial as well as for those who still, perhaps despite great success, know all too well that the road they walk will always be a slippery one. :^:

The guidelines are also meant to cultivate an atmosphere of consideration and concern for ALL, not individually, but AS A GROUP.

Well, all's said. Please join us!!

Hey all. Welcome to the new thread. Hope you all find us here...I never started a new one when I started up my last challenge and now I've added even more! So here goes.
I have notched yet another day on all challenges, currently four!

So, here is where I stand:

Day 13 crunches
Day 11 no sugar
Day 3 fresh vegetable juice
Day 3 no alcohol

How's that!??! :sunny:

01-01-2007, 05:22 AM
Today is a pause day for me.

30 minutes intentional exercise, level 3
5 days completed, 1 pause taken
Start date 27 December

Well done Red

01-01-2007, 11:22 AM
day 4 - Counting calories - pause - 2 pause left

day 4 - Exercise everyday - pause - 2 pauses left

I knew when I started the other day that yesterday would be a tough one, so it's ok. Today will actually be busy too. I've got to spend a good part of my day taking down all the Christmas stuff and getting my house back to normal. I will definitely count those calories and try to get in some crunches or something to count for the exercise.

:welcome: chaarli! Glad to have you hear.

Red - You're doing awesome! Keep it up!

Hi SweetPea and everyone else out there!

Have a great day all!

01-01-2007, 07:08 PM
I'm just going to sneak right back in here for those of you who remember me. Redballoon, I've got to fill you in on what's been going on with me. I haven't decided on my challenges yet. I have developed weight related hypertension and when thinking about a plan, I immediately thought about this thread. Talk to you all soon. Tia

01-01-2007, 08:08 PM
Hello all. Was contemplating 2006, and realized I needed to get my arse back here as well. I really need to work on my stress management as far as work goes (that usually is the biggest trigger) - since my "therapists" Ben & Jerry really derail me from so many goals. I need to stop spending so much money on crap food, and so little time doing positive things for myself.

So, starting today, here are my first two challenges - both are level 3.

1) daily exercise.
2) two servings daily of both fruits and vegetables.

I need to do some more contemplating, and get my mind fully in the game. Then I will add more challenges. Day one both challenges were met (or will be as soon as I eat an apple when I get off the computer :))

Hello and :newyear: to Red, Sweet Pea, and DJ. Tia - it is great to see you back too

01-01-2007, 08:43 PM
OK. My first challenge will be 30 minutes of exercise everyday, even on the weekends. This will definitely be a level 3. Maybe I will actually use my Curves membership. Here goes everything!!! Tia

01-02-2007, 01:20 AM
:welcome: tia.

Jolly nice to see you again

30 minutes intentional exercise, level 3
6 days completed, 1 pause taken
Start date 27 December

went for a nice walk and felt good after! now i'm lounging around :D

01-02-2007, 07:33 AM
Another day down on all challenges, which puts me at:

Day 14 crunches completed
Day 12 no sugar completed
Day 4 fresh vegetable juice completed
Day 4 no alcohol completed

No pauses taken, three left on each! :dizzy:

I'm sick with a cold. It came on suddenly. I had such energy at the gym and then, wham! it knocks me down. I think my body is in shock from all the exercise and good food, absence of booze and sugar. I may be in a type of detox. :^: I feel pretty bad but I'm going to push on. It's the 2nd here and I was back in work. I turned down various sweets and chances to have a beer...I tell you, there are ALWAYS chances to have beer at that office, people always going out on breaks or after a shift and ready for a pint. I can see how very easy it is to get in the habit and I am really going to have to catch myself to stop from ordering. Today, it was tea and grapefruit juice. Only one person had some alcohol, so it wasn't so tempting. I am going to stay away from the group get-together where it's ALL beer and sitting there drinking something non-alcoholic is just no fun, better to stay away completely.

sweet pea -- glad to see you're moving along there. Keep up the good work! And thanks for the encouragement!

tia -- Where have you been!?!? There's no "sneaking back in here," no way! It's about time you got back in here! No, just kidding...great to see you again! :spin: Sorry to hear about the hypertension... :( But, it sounds like you've got the right attitude for a great year ahead! Good luck! :goodluck:

jolly -- All the oldtimers, wow! Good to see you too. You get down to that contemplating and while you're at it....get that bootie moving and do your daily exercise! :dancer: Best of luck to you and FIRE those therapists of yours!!! They are obvious quacks!

dj -- First pause, no problem. :) Thanks for the nice words and best of luck to you too! You've got two tough challenges but we're all rooting for you. Power to you! :strong:

01-02-2007, 10:11 AM
day 4 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 4 - Exercise everyday - good - 2 pauses left

Well, I managed to sneak in some crunches yesterday in between all the "end of Christmas clean up". That lets me count both challenges as good!

It was really hard getting up this morning at 2:30 to go to work after having a week off, but I'm looking forward to life getting back to normal. I'll actually be able to work out in peace! Kids back to school and husband off to work, yay!

Hey Red, hope you get to feeling better soon!

:welcome: Tia! Nice to have you here!

Jolly - Glad to have you back as well!

Hi SweetPea! Hope you're doing well.

Have a great day all!

01-02-2007, 01:38 PM
Hey all. Consider "Ben" and "Jerry" FIRED!! I made it to the gym this morning. I didn't work out long, as I had to work until midnight last night, and I am also down with a cold (and it had BETTER get overwith soon, as I leave for Vegas a week from Saturday :nono:), but at least I went and did some movement.

I have been so bad lately with my eating, and eating out a lot at work. So, I was very proud of myself for eating what I packed today, and not giving in to temptation. I am slurping soup (non cream or cheese based) as we speak.

I have also decided that this year needs to be about treating myself in good ways. I have made up some little slips of paper with cool things to do. At the beginning of each month I will pick one, and plan and budget as needed to do it that month - no matter what! I can pick extras if I have a) had a loss each week of the previous month, and b) stayed within budget for groceries and restaurant spenditures.

Here's to a great 2007 for all of us!

01-02-2007, 10:34 PM
Today was a good day! Back to work but not back to school yet! Made it to the gym for little under two hours and ate well! Finally I seem to get the idea right?!
Day 3, One pause (New years taken) Under 2000 calories - level 3
Day 3, One pause (New years taken) 15 minutes of exercise a day - level 3
Day 4 Fitday logging - level 1
Looks like everyone is back!!

01-02-2007, 10:34 PM
Hey all. Just wanted to check in before bed:yawn: Day 2, both challenges met. even did well on my non challenge challenges :D

Red, hope your cold is getting better, and the work stuff is getting easier to avoid. DJ - 2:30 AM??? I thought my 4:30 was bad. Hats off to you:cb: Tia and Sweet Pea - hope your challenges are going well.

See you tomorrow

Hi guys! Happy New Year!
Great to see everyone. As promissed here I am on the 2nd of Jan!

Jolly and Tia, glad to see you are back as well.
Jolly when read your words, this is as if you are writing for me.
I also noticed that many of my great results from last year have been covered with a new layer of fat :-( And I do feel exactly the same when it comes to budget for groceries and eating out.
I am an Analyst at heart, and I just finished reviewing my finances for 2006, boy last 6 months, thousands spent eating out! I could have bought new furniture at the most expensive store, yet I choose to waste it.

It is hard to re-commit, and though I was hoping to say Day1 is in the Bag I cannot. Same same, work. With my new job role, I am so busy, hence I don't have time for lunch or grab food porn on the way home.

My two challenges for now would be:
Challenge A (Level 2): 64oz of Water
Chellenge B (Level 2): No food after 8pm

My sister is comming to town tomorrow, I will really try to be good and follow through. I am older then she is by 10 years, and I want to be a good example. Wish me luck.

01-03-2007, 05:05 AM

30 minutes intentional exercise, level 3
7 days completed, 1 pause taken
Start date 27 December

15 each side of side stretches level 1
1 day completed no pauses taken
start date 3 January

Back later with a report and to catch up on everyone else's news
it's soooooooo exciting to see a big crowd here :D

01-03-2007, 06:56 AM
:comp: Hello all! Well, it's another day down. A tough one with the cold worse, but I got out to see my horse and got a bit of riding in. Decided to take it easy tomorrow and not go out before work. That is tough in the best of times. It's just that it gives me a lift to see her and makes being in the hated office so much easier. I did NOT go to the party though and that was so much fun last year. We rode bareback and drunk and I fell off twice, last year that is. This year was so different. Even with the cold I would have drank but my resolve to get healthy and away from the beer was strong enough. I keep thinking it's been weeks since I had a beer and it's only five days!!! Can you believe it? I sound like some gd'd alcoholic. Habit, habit, it's become a habit, to go out with people after work for beers and I guess I didn't think about just how often that was becoming. Scary thought. Think of all the calories I can save by not drinking! Yowzah! Now that IS money in the bank!!!

Well, I made the vegetable juice today but put too much daikon radish in it and it was strong! Had to hold my nose drinking it but got most of it down. Tomorrow I'll make it easy with just carrots. It's so sweet then, touch of lemon juice.

Well, I've been off sugar for nearly two weeks and eating healthy for five days now. I keep looking in the mirror expecting to see some kind of miracle and guess what?! I don't see any difference!! :^: Ah, like...DUH!?!?! But, but, I've been so good! :tantrum: This is the hard part, when I always throw in the towel. I guess it's because it IS so hard, but I am going to try to keep going. Just think of the kick I would get from not having an enormous roll around my waist, not having to think if my shirt tops were hiding it well enough, not to have to wonder if I was doing a muffin top over my pants. Sigh. Yes, I MUST carry on! 2007 has GOT to be the year I get so buff I will look 20 years younger than my age....OK...a good 10 at least.

So, waffling over, I now stand at:

Day 15 crunches completed
Day 13 no sugar completed
Day 5 fresh vegetable juice completed
Day 5 no alcohol completed

No pauses yet taken

sweet -- good going on that exercise and the stretches. What kind of stretches are we talking here, by the way? Heh, lot of people around. Always happens after holidays....

CB -- Good luck on your challenges! :goodluck:

jolly -- Excellent work, jolly! :bravo: My cold was so bad today I thought I would just go see my horse and not get on. Then I thought I'd just walk around, then I ended up riding, and later felt much better. It must have been the effect of the endorphins or something because later I was dead, but I went home and got a nap. Feel much better now, thanks! Keep up the good work! :sunny:

Pink -- You're doing a bit of a stealth there, aren't you? Looking fine, looking fine!

dj -- I'm hoping I'm on the mend, though I think I still may get a bit worse. Hard staying down. Got two full days of work ahead of me again before the weekend. Ah, well, at least it will be a short week. You're looking good again. What do you do that has you up at 2:30?!?!? That is insane! I think I would just stay awake and try to sleep in the day but I guess that's not doable, eh? Hang in there! :flow2:

01-03-2007, 09:27 AM
day 5 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 5 - Exercise everyday - good - 2 pauses left

Well, I'm definitely getting better at counting those calories. The first couple of days I kept forgetting. Now, I'm back to counting as I go which keeps me on track a little better.

Red & Jolly -You two are doing great! Keep it up!

Yes, I'm up at 2:30 five days a week. I deliver donuts in the morning, which calls for an early riser. It's tough getting up that early, but I've gotten used to it since I started a little over a year ago. I now make sure I'm in bed no later than 7:30 and preferabley earlier! I only work about 3 hours a day so it's not too bad and it keeps me home with my youngest. Besides, it's a lot less stressful than my old job at a software company. Maybe when my youngest one starts school I'll look at getting back to a more normal life again.

Hi SweetPea & Pink! Keep up the good work!

Cbeta - Good luck with your challenges! Good to have you back!

Have a great day everyone!

Apple Blossom
01-03-2007, 02:07 PM
I'm kind of sneaking back too.....:sssh:
I have to get ready for a meeting but I'll pop in later...
My challenges:
30 min exercise
No beer
(both level 2)

01-03-2007, 09:05 PM
Hi all. What a day. Day 3, both challenges met. I do need to pat myself on the back here, for two saves. First, I did not pack a lunch today, as we had a long meeting with lunch scheduled. I had to cancel the meeting, and, instead of doing anything crazy (which was tempting), I kept it sane at Subway. Then, at the end of the day, I was starving, and crabby from some work things. I kept myself from stopping anywhere for ANYTHING, went home and had a glass of skim milk to take off the worst of the hunger pains, then made the salad (yum!) I had planned. I feel good about my choices.

Red, I hear you on your feelings on the no beer. Drinking soda is such a habit for me as well. I had weaned off of the caffeinated stuff, and finally stopped all sodas. It has only been 4 days, and feels like forever :fr: I wish I had gotten out to the barn. I was just feeling so crabby, and stayed late putzing, that I just came home to relax with the hounds. Poor choice, I know.

DJ - you have my sympathies! People think I am nuts for the hours I keep so I can work out before work. You go girl.

Apple, good to see you.

Anyone else I forgot :o sorry. I hope everyone had a great day. See you later

01-04-2007, 07:57 AM
Did it again, despite my cold. The gym may have made it worse. Then again, it might have been worse if I hadn't gone to the gym! ;) Anyhow, I went before work, despite my cold, despite the cold. Jogged 3K and did some weights and the crunches. Had some super sweet carrot juice this morning, none of that radish in it today. Wow, was it good! So, I'm now at:

Day 16 crunches completed
Day 14 no sugar completed
Day 6 fresh vegetable juice completed
Day 6 no alcohol completed

jolly -- Three cheers for you!!! :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: Way to go!!! That was a major save. I KNOW how tough it is when work gets to you and you teeter so near to throwing all your good work and resolve to the four winds. But you didn't Oh, no! :nono: Excellent stuff!

Apple -- I knew you'd be back. I was thinking the no beer challenge would spark your competitive spirit! Ha!! :dizzy: Good for you and good luck! :goodluck:

dj -- Congrats to you too! Well done! :cp: Wow, what a temptation your work must be, or no? I don't know how you do it, the work and resisting the sugar pull. You're made of tough stuff! :strong:

Others?! Where are you? :listen: Come in and post!

01-04-2007, 09:54 AM
day 6 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 6 - Exercise everyday - good - 2 pauses left

Had a good day yesterday. I actually managed to do an entire 30 minutes step routine on my 8 inch step. It was really hard, but I did it without stopping. Got those calories counted too, although there were too many of them. Don't know why, but when I'm really tired, I tend to want to eat more. Kept it under 2000, but it's still too much. Oh well, day by day it's gettting a little more under control.

Red - Good for you, you just keep going and going. Just remember to take care of yourself and don't push too hard while you're sick!
Yes, resisting that sugar pull at work can be really tough at times. Luckily, I'm only in the shop for about 45 minutes before I take off to make deliveries and I carry absolutely no extras in my car so there's no temptation once I get on the road.

Jolly - Awesome job on the saves! :woo: You deserve that pat on the back. Yes, our schedules sound crazy, however, we do what we have to do I guess. After a while it actually starts to seem somewhat normal.

Hi Apple! Nice to see you back. Good luck with those challenges!

Hi to everyone else out there!

Have a great day all!

01-04-2007, 10:10 AM
Morning all. Way to go Red and DJ. Keep up the good work.

I was feeling pretty yucky this morning as well, and almost took a pause on working out. Decided that 30 minutes of movement was better than sitting on the couch, so did a short Precor workout. Glad I did.

I hopped on the scale too, which I shouldn't have. I need to tone down the salty foods, as I am retaining water :(

Catch you all later. Have a WONDERFUL day.

01-04-2007, 01:48 PM
No full day completed yet on either one of the challenges.

I am trying to get in water in me, first day I was able to do 2 bottles, yesterday 3 bottles, hopefully today will be day 1 for water, where I will DO 4 bottles.
Eating is bad, my sister's plane was delayed and when we got home I had some tea and a small sandwich at 1:30AM!!!
I know that tonight I won't even get to SF until late, hence again will miss Day 1.

I am glad to see you guys are doing so well.
Red, I hope you feel better, I hear you on being sick, I am still having some leftover caugh and sweats. Hang in there, you have my complete admiration for still going through with excercises!
Jolly, congrats on quitting pop. I totally hate diet, and hence I do, I'd rather not have any then it. Be strong, I know you can, I've been really admiring your strength.
Good going to all the ones who just re-joined. Keep strong, this is first week after New Year, things will go back to routine, and it will be easier to stick to your guns.

01-04-2007, 03:11 PM
Hi all. Mid day plea for some WILLPOWER!!! Work stress continues on today, and I am craving fried. Doesn't really matter what - just matters that it is. I made it back to my office without stopping anywhere, now I just need to stay here. I must. I must. I must decrease my butts.

Because my I don't have a menu challenge right now, just eating enough good stuff, I am trying to remember my financial goals, and giving myself permission to eat whatever I already possess - as to not spend money. My cupboards (work and home) are pretty healthy, so that is a good start. Wish me luck.

Thanks, Cbeta, and good luck with your challenges.

01-04-2007, 03:26 PM
Come on Jolly, don't blow it now! We know you can do this. You did so good yesterday with those saves, keep thinking about how good that made you feel.

01-05-2007, 12:28 AM
Thanks, DJ. I made it through the work day. I knew I was going out tonight with some colleagues - which we do VERY rarely, so I didn't need to do bad during the day. Thanks for the positive thoughts, and hope you had a good day.

If I go snarf down a V8, day 4 both challenges met :)

01-05-2007, 05:27 AM
30 minutes intentional exercise, level 3
9 days completed, 1 pause taken
Start date 27 December

15 each side of side stretches level 1
3 day completed no pauses taken
start date 3 January

Hi everyone

I've been keeping up with my exercises but I've not spent much time online so I'm here now doing a bit of a catch up. I haven't slept much the last couple of nights so I'm really zonked but doing ok other than that.

Jolly hehe you made me laugh talking about your therapists ben and jerry. we don't have that here but I bet it tastes yummy. You did well to rise to your challenges and deal with stress:D

apple - welcome back :)

dj - were you the one that used to do the no donut challenges? now that I read about your job I can see why that would be hard. I used to work in a Chinese takeaway when I was a student. Talk about pigging out hehe

Red - has all this time without sugar changed things for you? do you have more energy? better mood or other positive benefits?

CBETA - how much is 4 bottles of water? Hope you get your first challenge under your belt tmrw

01-05-2007, 07:12 AM
Good morning all

After a late night, and an insomniac puppy (I woke up around 1am to her standing by my bed with my socks in her mouth, wagging her tail and saying "play?"), I am tired. I thought your challenge was 30 minutes of "international" exercise, Sweet Pea. I was trying to figure out what that was. . .

Well, despite the lack of sleep and the fact I actually don't have to work until this afternoon, I am going in for my circuit class this morning. Hope I survive.

Have a great day all

01-05-2007, 09:51 AM
Ok, all, just wanted to post that I notched another day!! Hurrah! Will talk later....

Day 17 crunches completed
Day 15 no sugar completed
Day 7 fresh vegetable juice completed
Day 7 no alcohol completed

01-05-2007, 09:53 AM
day 7 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 7 - Exercise everyday - good - 2 pauses left

Another day notched! I'm actually starting to watch my calorie intake again even though I'm not doing a challenge. I've got to get those calories down! I'm staying below 2000 everyday and most days I'm around 1800, but I still feel like that's too much.

Jolly - Glad to hear you made it through your day! Good job! :carrot:

Sweet Pea - Yep, that was me doing the donut challenge. I think I've finally made peace with those things! Still have one once in a while, but I've gotten better over time. I just keep reminding myself of all that trans fat in them. That stuff scares me!

Now, chinese food, that would be tough! Love the stuff!

Cbeta - Hope you got your challenge under way!

Good going Red!

Have a great day everyone!

01-05-2007, 07:51 PM
Good morning, all. Rainy Saturday here in Tokyo. :rain: Very cold too, may be snow on the outskirts.... Ok, weather report aside, my cold took what seemed to be a miraculous turn for the better last night, which makes it seem that it was brought on by the good things I've been doing to my body, not the bad. :spin: Right now, there is NO runny nose, no congestion in my head, just a bit in my chest. Bizarre! :?: Let's hope it continues to get better. It's been a week on the fresh vegetable juice and that is potent stuff. I have good energy but don't feel I look that much better. (Sigh.) Oh, well, just a week. The stress at work is horrible. :stress: Last night I needed three people to talk me out of quitting right then and there. I was so disgusted with things. It's the higher-ups, absolutely clueless and out of touch with reality. (Deeper sigh.) In any case, let's hope I can carry on. :^: The challenges keep me coming in here. Last night, I had tea instead of beer mostly due to the challenges and then I came home and though it was late, got down and did the crunches, only because I hated to take a pause and ruin my perfect record. Cheers. :cheer:

On a weight note, my weight is not bad. It shows a slight creep downward, but I can't get excited about it because I was doing so good back in November, when I hit 67.6 kgs before ruining it and going back up to around 71. Now, it looks to be hovering around 69, which isn't bad, but, like I said, I won't be happy till I get below my last low. Am I being too hard on myself? I feel I'll never get anywhere.... :(

dj -- You're doing so well. I'm so happy to hear that. It's a major step to have made peace with those you know whats! Good work!

sweet -- Glad to hear you've been keeping up with the challenges, albeit stealth. Yeah, no Ben and Jerrys here either, though I do have two Bens at work, without Jerry I guess they're not dangerous. You asked about how going off sugar has affected's hard to say because I have gone off it so much that I forget what really being on the stuff whole hog does to me, but let me think...I guess the big thing is the energy and the lack of cravings. I can go all day without any sort of craving, whereas when I'm eating sugar it just leads to more. There are no marked energy dips. Everything is more stable and I am more focused. And skinwise, I don't have the puffiness that comes from too much processed sugar. I immediately notice a tightening up a couple days totally off the stuff. And, I remember you asked about sweeteners. No, I don't eat any sweeteners either. When I want something sweet I go for really sweet fruit. It's amazing how your taste buds change and become sensitized to natural sweetness after being off the crack!

jolly -- I'm glad you made it past those rough spots and wish you luck getting through the circuit despite the sleep disturbance brought on by your playful pup!

CB -- Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the eating, but take heart in the fact that you are doing better with the water. Thanks for the get well wishes. They seem to have been heard! And hang in there!

01-05-2007, 09:15 PM
Well, actually, my weight nudged under 69 kgs this morning so I am at 68.6. That is only 1 kg (2.2 lbs) above my recent low and so that makes me feel better...I guess....I feel fat and ugly though today. My cold isn't as good as I thought....oh, that I would get some good news, something to cheer me up. Think I'll head to the gym later today (riding was rained out) and try to get some endorphins stirred up. Wish me luck... :^:

01-05-2007, 10:26 PM
I'm new's Hpnotq. I'm 23 and have been married to Rick since June 2004. :) I'm starting with a simple challenge. For 21 days I'll have no Dr Pepper at all. This is huge for me since I usually drink Dr Pepper like it's water. Today could officially be day 1, but since I'm just now announcing it, I'll count it from tomorrow. I look forward to getting to know all of you :)

01-05-2007, 10:31 PM
Welcome Hpnotq!! :welcome3: That sounds like a great challenge. Best of luck! :goodluck: I hope to hear lots from you. Will you make that a level 1, 2, or 3?

01-05-2007, 10:48 PM
I'm gonna make it a Level 1...but not so much cause I feel like it'll be easy but more because I really want to get rid of DrPepper altogether. I know it's no good for me. I was gonna cut out all soda, but I think that's too extreme this early in the game.

01-05-2007, 10:49 PM
Oh and by the way...thanks for the enthusiastic welcome!

01-06-2007, 04:48 AM
It's summertime here and I'm enjoying being outside. That means I'm not spending much time inside on the puter. Frankly it's better for me. I spend far too much time in here when I love being out in the fresh air!!!

Today I went for my walk and then went to the supermarket and bought some chicken and salad and wine. Lovely!!! Really enjoyed it. I also did some dancing tonight which ws fantastic. Hope my legs aren't too sore tmrw ;)

30 minutes intentional exercise, level 3
10 days completed, 1 pause taken
Start date 27 December

15 each side of side stretches level 1
4 days completed no pauses taken
start date 3 January

Jolly - ahhh you make me laugh. International exercise would be soooo much more fun:p Is that the same puppy (springer spaniel) or do you have another?

hynotq- :welcome3:

red - well done on the weight loss. I'm inspired that you have no energy dips and feel better without the sugar. I think that's far better than the impact on the scales. You can't put a price on feeling good :D

DJ well done on your challenges - and the donuts LOL

01-06-2007, 06:37 AM
Well, I'm mostly through Saturday and it was kind of a wasted day. Then again, I got to talk to lots of people on the phone and I did it without accompanying beverages!! ;) I didn't get to the gym but I did do the crunches and in all fairness my cold is not that much better. I am still congested. No sense knocking myself out. So, here's where I stand. I got the juice in. It would be easy to just not make it. It's not that much work but today I just didn't feel like drinking it. But, I did! Hurrah! :cp:

Day 18 crunches completed
Day 16 no sugar completed
Day 8 fresh vegetable juice completed
Day 8 no alcohol completed

sweet pea -- Good going on yet another day behind you on the challenges! :bravo: Ah, you lucky, enjoying summer now. I so wish for the warmth. Hunkering down in warm pubs was so nice but I'm going to have to put it behind me except on special occasions. Then again, that may make them all the more enjoyable. That is funny with jolly and the international exercise. Yes, what would that be? :dunno: I suppose you could do some sumo stretches, karate chops, a bit of line dance moves, some polka, a bit of square dancing, some Masai high jumps, it could become all the rage, really! :lol3: You're right about the good feelings off sugar. And I must admit, my color is just so much better. My skin looks pink and fresh and I think this is from a combination of the absence of sugar and the good vegetable juice. But, alas, weight loss is another of my goals and one I would so like to see happen. I am tired of hiding myself, yet know I will never expose the rolls and lumps. :^:

Hp -- You're most welcome for the welcome! And you have courage to make your challenge a Level 1. Best of luck!!

01-06-2007, 07:48 AM
I have a vege juicer and I do enjoy fresh vege juice but I just find cleaning the juicer such a hassle. Have you got a juicer that is easy to clean? or are you more conscienscious than me?

Sometimes I have smoothies and throw in some veges. I find capsicum and cucumber blend easily and taste good with fruits. I sometimes add beetroot or ginger but capsicum and cucumber seem to be the nicest. The other thing I have tried is getting the V8 citrus splash (fruit and veges) and adding some of that to my smoothie

I get heaps of fresh fruit from my orchard so I'm having plums for breakfast and oranges for snacks. My lettuces will be ready in another week or two. I should probably water them ROFL. We have had long sunny periods. I remember to water all the pots and the blueberries but I always forget the lettuce ;)

01-06-2007, 07:49 AM
p.s. the notifications from 3FC are still hit n miss even though I have changed my email address to the more reliable gmail. No idea why :?

01-06-2007, 07:49 AM
p.p.s. Red do you take your measurements as well as your weight? Maybe your shape is changing even if the weight isn't shifting.

01-06-2007, 09:49 AM
day 8 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 8 - Exercise everyday - good - 2 pauses left

Wow, I wake up this morning and there are so many posts to read! That's great to see.

Had a decent day yesterday. A few too many calories still but I had a really good workout. I'm really enjoying my new step and the videos that came with it and so far they are challenging me, especially with a higher step. I feel like that step will continue to challenge me for some time to come!

Red - I know the weight part is frustrating and we all want to have that weight come off, but, you are doing wonderful things for yourself. Think of how much healthier you are today than you were before. I also firmly believe that with all you are doing to become more healthy, that the weight WILL start to come off.

Have you tried Sweet Pea's suggestion of measuring yourself? Remember, muscle takes up less room than fat! Changes that you can't see on the scale might be happening.

Sweet Pea - You're giving me spring fever talking about your orchard and fresh vegies and fruit! I can't wait until spring arrives here. Winters are too darn long!

Good going on your challenges! Walking and dancing, that's great and sounds like fun!

:welcome2: Hpnotq. Glad to have you with us and good luck with your challenge!

01-06-2007, 03:16 PM
Good morning all. I also am not getting much done this Saturday. Two late nights in a row, puppy clean up (yes, it is the same Springer Puppy), and I have no energy to move at all. Horse, gym - all are ignored. Not good. I hope to at least get up and clean, do my nails, and be somewhat productive for the day :(

Everyone else, good luck with challenges. Keep up the good work. Hypnotq - welcome.

Catch you later

01-06-2007, 04:26 PM
Good morning, all. Nothing to report here. It's only 5:30 a.m. Sunday and I'm getting ready to leave. The rain has stopped at last. :) I guess I sounded frustrated by the lack of weight loss and thanks sweet and dj for your encouragement. Yes, I watch my body and clothes' fit closely so I do know when changes are happening. Still, there's only so much change that can happen without a scale change and I'm just impatient. I know I'm not putting in the necessary effort to really make the changes I need to see. I am barely over 5 feet and do have a lot of muscle so my weight is high for my height. So, really, I need to work very hard to get fat off and it is soooo easy to put it on, especially if I drink beer, which, as you can see, has been a habit. That is stopping. I'm cutting out other calorie-dense food and will just have to be patient and, above all, consistent. It's hard and requires a lot of discipline and having a desk job doesn't help. My body NEEDS lots of exercise. I am of plowhorse stock I think. :^: Anyhow, I will carry on. Thanks again for the support.

01-07-2007, 12:06 AM
Looks like everyone is doing well so far. I made it through day 1 with not even the slightest desire to have a DrPepper. Hope you're all doing well...I'm exhausted and want to get some rest.

01-07-2007, 12:35 AM
Hey all. Well, I must admist that I made a LOT of poor choices today. However, as I just got my rear off the couch and did a 20 min upper body workout tape (yes, Red, WEIGHTS :fr:), day 6 both challenges met. I almost took a pause on exercise, but I figured I might need them in Vegas. I will work towards better choices overall tomorrow.

Have a good night all

01-07-2007, 05:35 AM
hi I'm shattered today must have overdone it yday. I went for a walk yday and did a lot of dancing. Today I did a lot of nothing

Pause on the 30 mins but I did the side exercises

Will report fully tmrw and catch up on all the news.

Every day in every way I grow stronger and stronger. (just trying a little affirmation as right now I'm feeling anything but strong)

01-07-2007, 06:50 AM
Day 19 crunches completed
Day 17 no sugar completed
Day 9 fresh vegetable juice completed
Day 9 no alcohol completed

dj, congrats! :cp: Hp!! :bravo: Hang in there sweet pea and jolly!!

Sorry all, gotta run! :running:

01-07-2007, 09:55 AM
day 9 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 9 - Exercise everyday - good - 2 pauses left

Had a really busy day yesterday, but got my challenges done. Today, I'm going to try really hard to fit in some exercise. Sunday is always my toughest day!

Have a good day everyone!

01-07-2007, 01:40 PM
Just stopped in to say hello....I've got alot of cleaning to do today. Everyone have a good one! So far no cravings for DP....woohoo! Hope everyone is doing well!

01-07-2007, 03:57 PM
Well today is the start of a new week for me and I'm hoping I do better than the last week.
It took me a while to get myself on track but I'm getting there.
Today is Weigh in day and I have lost 1 pound so that's better than nothing.
I need to get back into my exercise routine though, it's summer holidays here and the children are home from school so I just haven't sorted my routine out with the kids being at home.
I finally seem to be getting my food under control so that's a good start.
Will be away for ten days from Wed and won't have internet access for that time so won't be able to post but hopefully will have a good loss to post when I get back.
Keep up the good work everybody

01-07-2007, 04:13 PM
Okay I think I need to reassess my goals as I can't seem to keep to any of them.

30 minutes intentional exercise Level 2
Journal food intake level 1
Increase fruit/vege to 5+ serves a day Level 1

So that puts me at day one for everything.
We'll see how it goes for now.

01-07-2007, 10:41 PM
Hello and Happy New Year to everyone. Had a great vacation with the family, but it was really COLD in Seattle. It's nice to be back home where the temperature in the 70s. Feel like I've been shivering for a week.

I'm going to weigh in the morning, but am sure to have put on a few pounds. My sister and her husband cooked heavy and rich foods every day and I just HAD to eat them. They really enjoy the cooking and social aspect of food, and cook lots of sauces and complex carbs rather than eating simple foods. It was rather shocking to see how much weight my sister has put on over the past couple of years. She is now heavier than I was at my heaviest. She is much younger than me and I hate to see her going down the same path with the weight problems that I've always struggled with. It is hard to see it happening to someone I love when I know how difficult it is to take the pounds back off.

I need to return to reality and channel my energy back into a healthy lifestyle. I am going to start my first 21-day challenge of 2007 with some tough goals. I find it easier to start strong and then back off after the first few weeks. So, my level 3 goals are:
Calories - 1200-1500 per day
Fruits/veges - at least 5 servings per day
Eat a minimum of 5 times per day
Food log daily
Excercise - 30 minutes minimum per day

Sounds like everyone is off to a good start in 2007. Nice to hear from a couple of new people too.

01-07-2007, 11:34 PM

01-08-2007, 01:36 AM
Been doing a bit of stealth here, mainly because I haven't had much access over the past couple of days.

I will be back tomorrow to update and reveal my challenges for the next 21 days.

See you soon!!!! You may wish you had not invited me back!

01-08-2007, 07:39 AM
Good evening, all. It's Monday evening here and I'm getting ready to turn in. Took the day off and had a most-needed day with nature outside of Tokyo and, yes I did it again, notched another day of sticking to my plan, thanks to the challenges! It would be so easy to not make the juice, or not do the crunches and today, for some reason, the sugar beckoned. BUT!!!! I did NOT succumb to its temptation. :dizzy:

Day 20 crunches completed
Day 18 no sugar completed
Day 10 fresh vegetable juice completed
Day 10 no alcohol completed

I am not even, dare I say, tempted by the brew, but tomorrow I will be in the office and my old drinking buddy is back from vacation...I will NOT go out! :nono:

Shad -- I am expecting quite tough challenges from an old pro like you! :lol3: Looking forward to them and to your being back with us!

sweet -- good going on the walk and those "side thingees!" :cp:

Ashley -- Welcome back! :welcome3: Welcome to a return to reality! Great challenges! I can be the same, tougher the better, but sometimes that's only once I get kickstarted with something easier. I did that this time, starting out with crunches, which are old hat to me and then added all the others. Good luck, you've really gone all out from the start! :goodluck: Don't worry if the scale is up. You had your fun. That's what timeouts are for. Just get back on the straight and narrow and be ready for the next vacation. :sunny:

chaarli -- Good to see you're still with us. I was wondering. Hang in there. Keep trying and you will get it one day. :dancer:

Hp -- Sounding good! Let's see you notch another day! :cheer:

dj -- You're moving right along! Great stuff. Good luck getting through Sunday!

Jolly, Apple, tia, others, how's it going. :listen: Come in and post!!

01-08-2007, 03:43 PM
day 10 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 10 - Exercise everyday - pause - 1 pauses left

Just stopping in to report my day yesterday.

Have a good day everyone!

01-08-2007, 05:34 PM
A "Monday" morning for me here, or it feels like it, as I took yesterday (the true Monday) off from work. I do not relish going in to the office but am trying to steel myself with a gym workout beforehand. I am going to put off the juice till this evening, which is always risky but I just don't feel like loading up my stomach too much before the gym. I already eat a full breakfast. I do have pauses but would really like to ace these challenges. That's the way the challenge used to be and I do think the momentum really helps toward the end. You really don't want to go all the way back to start when you're more than halfway there. Still, having the option of pauses I think helps get me to that halfway point. I don't feel any leaner (sigh) but I'm not going to worry about it. I still am congested and had quite a bit of salt yesterday. Just keep at it. The absence of alcohol's empty calories should surely play a part as time goes on. I can't believe it's already 10 days away from the stuff. Like I said, today, though, may be a stickler. :^:

I just weighed myself and, as expected, the scale has not budged. BUT, I heard the voices of sweet pea and others and my own reply saying I "watched my clothes' fit closely" and so I did just that, tried on a pair of non-stretch jeans (!!) :^: and a pair of overly unsupportive breeches AND I found that the jeans were actually comfortable at top (I hesitate to say "at the waistline") and that my lower gut did not bulge quite as grossly as before in the breeches! :spin: Hurrah! I will remember this when the bar beckons tonight!!

Good going, dj. You used a pause on exercise but kept to the important calorie count on a tough weekend day! :bravo:

Good luck everyone and hope to hear from you soon!

01-08-2007, 11:25 PM
Howdy all. Well, I had to take a pause today on the exercise. I just dozed off in the chair this morning, and didn't make it to class. I just got back from a training class with the dog, and don't feel like squeezing someting in now, so . . .

Day 7 daily exercise, day 8 eating 2 servings each of fruits and vegetables.

Still need to improve on the overall eating though. Baby steps. Have to think baby steps.

have a good one all, and will chat more later.

01-08-2007, 11:46 PM
Sorry did not get back to this last night so I am trying to remember everything I wanted to do.

Right, so the New Year is upon us. The Chinese New Year is going to be the year of the pig - how unfortunate.

I'm not one for new year resolutions but one thing I have decided on is that this year, I will weigh less at the end of the year than I did at the beginning. Now that is a direct quote from a lady in the journals WWPeggy! She only posts about once a week. She vowed that last year and didn't care if the result was only one pound it was lighter. She actually ended up losing 70lbs., reached her goal and looks absolutely fabulous.

I have decided on modest targets and the first of those for the year is to lose 10% of my body weight. That means over the year I want to be rid of 7.89Kg. Not a lot but important to me.
I started using the CSIRO Wellbeing diet this week. It is devised by the government department of Scientific and Industrial Research and was originally designed to try to take the myths out of dieting and get people away from dangerous fad dieting. I am quite enjoying it at this point but find that my evening meal is too big for me. I am about to start putting some of the evening stuff into the lunch stuff. That way I can cope with it. Tonights meal is Lemon thyme chicken with roasted red onions and butternut pumpkin followed by 200g lo fat dairy dessert and 150g of tinned fruit. I'm going to try to get a pic of the size of my dinner uploaded tonight. It may be working as I am down a pound after 3 days!

Okay, so here's my challenge to me.
Gym 5 times a week @ 45 minutes per session. - Level 3
20 minutes on the SwissBall and 20 mins swim 7 times a week - Level 3
Stick with the CSIRO eating plan for 21 days (and then onto the 12 weeks) - Level 2
Water 1600ml every day - Level 1

Okay, now Red is going to come back and tell me that I can't have the first challenge. So I am going to call it a Clayton's challenge. That's the challenge you have when you don't have a challenge. It will work with the Swiss Ball challenge.

And since there has been some stealth here,............ no I won't, I'll start it from scratch - Day one 10th January 2007, that's tomorrow for me.

Catch you all tomorrow

01-09-2007, 02:42 AM
30 minutes intentional exercise, level 3
12 days completed, 2 pauses taken, 1 remains
Start date 27 December

15 each side of side stretches level 1
7 days completed no pauses taken
start date 3 January

01-09-2007, 02:47 AM
DJS the orchard is wonderful but unfortunately guarding the fruit is a full time job. the birds and the possums have had most of the fruit. I finally got wise and picked some before it ripened. I was getting very angry. I could hear all the birds in there chirping away and happily pecking all my ripe fruit to pieces grrrrrr

jolly - hard luck on the pause. i've had the same thing happen to me (falling asleep). Anyway I find dog training is quite good exercise going around in circles and weaving around the other dogs. I go 15 mins early and walk my dog around to calm her before the class

Red hooray you're listening to us! excellent that your pants fit better

shad good luck with your goals

ashley welcome back from your holiday!

01-09-2007, 08:15 AM
Ok, no time here...notched another!! And crunches are DONE!!

Day 21 crunches completed
Day 19 no sugar completed
Day 11 fresh vegetable juice completed
Day 11 no alcohol completed

I am now too stuffed and full of vegetable juice to probably sleep but I am going to try. I just had to make the juice and then thought I'd have some dinner as well.... :T

jolly, you're doing all right. You just keep at it. Yes, baby steps are FINE!! :bb:

Oh, wow, Shad has written a novelette  and I have no time to write long right now. :stress: But, great to see you Shad...oh yes, the gym challenge doesn't fit the parameters of the 21.... Oh, Shad, it's year of the WILD BOAR, not pig, pleazzzzz!!! MY year! ;)

sweet! Good for you!! :high:

Later, gators!!!

01-09-2007, 10:27 AM
day 11 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 11 - Exercise everyday - good - 1 pauses left

Had a busy day yesterday, I didn't get much sleep the night before so when I got home from work I went back to bed. That meant I spent the day playing catch-up on everything. At least I got my exercise in and calories counted!

Red - So glad to hear that you did find a positive change in your clothes! I admit that I'm bad about measuring myself, but every now and then I do it so I can keep track of those changes.

Yes!!! :woo: You finished your crunches and you're almost done with that no sugar challenge! Good job!

Sweet Pea - Yea, I think those possums and birds would make me crazy! I love my fresh fruit and to think that they are enjoying it more than me wouldn't sit with me too well. I'm not quite sure what you could do about it though. :dunno:

Shad - Glad to see you're getting back on track here. That diet sounds interesting, although I am terrible about following a "diet". At least it sounds like you get to eat "normal" food!

What is a Swiss Ball? Is it like a stability ball? Never heard of it.

Jolly - Sorry to hear about the pause, but sometimes, it just happens. Now, just get back on track today!

Ashley - Glad to have you back! Good luck with your new challenges!

Have a good day everyone!

01-09-2007, 04:21 PM
Good morning, all! Up again and getting ready to get in a workout before work again. Early days these days so it's tougher than usual, but I am stoked with all that good food and NO alcohol. :spin:

Here are some baby wild boars for you. The babies are striped, the adults not. They are called "inoshishi" (ee-noe-she-she) in Japanese. So cute....

01-09-2007, 06:17 PM
Morning -
Have changed my challenge around somewhat so it fits with both Red's strict rules and my lifestyle. I will now commit to exercise 7 times a week for 45 mins. The choice of what I do is mine. It will be 5 days at the gym and the rest probably in the pool. Heat here is extreme at the moment. I could have slept in the pool last night.

So just to get it straight:

1. Committed exercise 7 days a week - Level 3
2. 1600ml of fluid per day (no soda) - level 1
3. Eating on CSIRO plan for 21 days straight - Level 2

I'm off and running and it won't be hard to drink the water in this weather.

Cute Boars - but it is still the year of the pig!

01-09-2007, 07:08 PM
30 minutes intentional exercise, level 3
13 days completed, 2 pauses taken, 1 remains
Start date 27 December

15 each side of side stretches level 1
8 days completed no pauses taken
start date 3 January

01-09-2007, 10:23 PM
Day 1 – exercise, one pause taken
Day 2 – calories, food log, fruit/vege, water

OK – After all my big talk, I didn’t start so well with the exercise. Came home last night and laid on the couch for “just a minute”. Fell asleep and didn’t get any exercise. Sigh…. Hit all the goals for today though. Weighed this morning and the scale was only up 2 pounds, which was great news. I can take that back off this week and be back where I was before vacation. Previously, I would have just gone hog-wild for the week, gained at least 5 pounds, and then given up on weight-loss efforts. I'm really feeling committed to staying on target now, although I'm willing to take "vacations" without feeling any sense of guilt.

Red –Sounds like trying on the jeans was a big morale booster. Sometimes the fit of the clothes is a better measure of your success than the scale. The wild boars are really cute.

Jolly – it really is all about baby steps and gradual changes in lifestyle. You’ve been doing a great job clicking off those days.

Shad – I like the gym challenge 5 days per week and wish it fit in with the rules. I just can’t get there 21 days in a row, unless I used 10 pause days!

Sweet pea – birds can be very annoying with the fruit. I used to grow strawberries, but I sweat the birds ate way more of them than I ever got.

HP – nice to see you’re doing well with the Dr. P challenge.

Chaarli –hope your ten days away is for fun. It’s funny to think that it’s summer over there while we’re so cold here now.

Apple & Tia - how are you doing?

01-10-2007, 06:17 PM
Morning all,

Day 1 complete on all challenges.
1. Exercise - 45 minutes cardio
2. Food - stuck by the book (this may cost me a fortune!)
3. Water - downed 1600ml (just) and had to get up 3 times during the night - does that count as extra exercise?

Boars - according to the dictionary are male pigs. Sows are female pigs. Cute as they may be, they are pigs. Is Red hiding from me??

Inoshishi sounds much nicer. This is the year of the Inoshishi?

01-10-2007, 08:20 PM
Day 2 – exercise, one pause taken
Day 3 – calories, food log, fruit/vege, water

Quiet on here today. I went to the gym after work to take a cardio class, and found it was cancelled, so went to a belly dancing class instead. All I can say is - I am no belly dancer! It was fun, but I was incredibly uncoordinated, and now my hip hurts.

Sorry I haven't been by...been a rough couple of days....I've made it through Day 5 now of no DP...had a little craving yesterday but said no way to it yay!

01-11-2007, 01:57 AM
30 minutes intentional exercise, level 3
14 days completed, 2 pauses taken, 1 remains
Start date 27 December

15 each side of side stretches level 1
9 days completed no pauses taken
start date 3 January

The challenges are going well. Food needs to be next on my list of challenges but haven't decided what yet

The expected rain only lasted a couple of days. I adore sunny weather so I'm happy. Even overcast is okay so long as I can be outside.

hpnot- well done on day 5

ashley - i have heard belly dancing is incredible exercise. i've never been game to try it as the classes here are 2 hrs and i couldn't possibly do any sort of exercise 2 hrs at this stage lol

red- that's a gorgeous pix. they don't look at all like the baby pigs i've seen! look more like deer :)

dj - yeah you're doing well ps not sure if anyone answered you but it is a large inflated ball that you use to do exercises. you can sit on it. do press ups on it. ab exercises etc. very very popular. google it and you will see pix!

Hello. I'm still out here. It's nice to see everyone is out there kicking some butt:kickbutt: and sticking to their quest! Wow!
Congrats Red, for 21 days of crunches!!:hat: :high:
I have kind of dropped out for a while because my mother has been ill and it's thrown any hope for daily routine and dicipline out the window. Has reinforced the importance of staying healthy however....
Right now it looks like things have settled down so I'm returning to my no beer/30 min exercise challenge. I'm actually on day 2 of the exercise. Which I need to modify a bit: it has to be either aerobic or weight lifting.
No "I walked around a lot today so it counts" stuff. REAL exercise. Like sweet pea. INTENTIONAL.
It's late so I'm out of here.
If baby wild boars are called piglets then I think they qualify as pigs, yes?:ink: :ink: :ink:

Good morning all. Just time for a fly by post here. Sorry have been absent.

Things have been nuts. I leave Saturday early morning for Vegas for vacation/step-brother's wedding. I have been trying to get things ready at work and at home for my trip. Well, the dogs' tummy problems continue, so the expense of my trip went up as I have to take them to my friend's kennel. she is going to watch them, and try to figure out what is going on - we think it may be the bag of dog food I got. Can you say "stress?" :fr: :fr:

I realized, in the rush of cleaning up after dog last night (OK, and lets be real here, the bad eating during the day!:) ) I did not get my two fruits in yesterday. So I am still on day 10 of both challenges, with 2 pause days left.

When I get back, I think I need to start on the following menu challenge again. I know I need to start slow and stay strong, but there are just too many loopholes right now.

Have a good one all. Congrats to all with their challenges. I am not sure if I will be able to get on here while I am gone, so if not, have a good few days all

01-11-2007, 10:21 AM
day 12 & 13 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 12 & 13 - Exercise everyday - good - 1 pauses left

Had to get in real quick to catch up. Had a rough day yesterday, but I managed to get in the challenges. Now, today, I'm running really late due to lots of really slick snow! I'll try to catch up with everyone later.

01-11-2007, 06:16 PM
Morning all,

Day 2 complete on all challenges.
1. Exercise - stepping and swimming 45 mins
2. Food - stuck by the book
3. Water - downed 1800ml and had to get up 3 times during the night.

This eating pattern looks like it may work. I've been losing slowly over the week and making notes as I go. Then yesterday for some reason, may be the water and diuretic moving things todays scale was down a whole kilo from yesterday. Now that has to be water. I'll be very happy if it doesn't go up at all, but I suspect it will level out.

The challenges seem to be going well for must of us. Keep it up ladies. Apple good to have you back. Hope Mum is okay now?

Has Red got lost or has she lost her way?? I guess work got in the way again.

Well I better go do something for which I get paid.

Heh people, yes I've been busy and have taken a pause on two three challenges....will get back with details later. To put the pig/boar issue to rest...

Of course, wild boars are a type of pig, or you maybe could say pigs are domestic boars, wild boars are wild pigs. It's a matter of wording and in different languages they are called just that. In German, it's Wildschwein, "wild pig," whereas in Japanese inoshishi and buta (wild boar and pig) are differentiated, simply because one is wild and the other not and they are vastly different these days. But, of course, I was just kidding about saying it's not the Year of the Pig. Both names are used, but, yes, in Japan it's the Year of the Inoshishi, not Buta (boot-ah) and the Chinese characters are different. Anyhow, here is an interesting Wikipedia link to boars so you learn all about them! (be sure to hide the Contents) Sadly, (as I am a vegetarian and animal lover) they are hunted here and eaten! I was born in the Year of the Wild Boar, so I was just joking with ya, Shad! Who wants to be called a pig?!?! Then again....

“Think P.I.G. - that’s my motto. P stands for Persistence, I stands for Integrity, and G stands for Guts. These are the ingredients for a successful business and a successful life.”
*Linda Chandler

All you ever wanted to know about the wild pig and much, much more!!

See you all later!

Day 3 – exercise, one pause taken
Day 4 – calories, food log, fruit/vege, water

Sweet pea – two hours of belly dancing??? There is NO WAY I could do that – I barely made it for 45 minutes. And today my hip really hurts.

HP – 5 days without Dr. Pepper. Way to GO!

Shad – I laughed at your question about getting up at night counting as exercise.

Red – I love your version of PIG. That works well for our weight loss program – persistence, integrity and guts are necessary!

DJ – you’re over halfway to acing your challenge again.

Apple – happy to hear things have improved for your mother.

Jolly – nice to hear from you. I hope you have a great time on your vacation to Vegas. Should be a nice time of year to be there.

01-12-2007, 11:53 AM
day 14 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 13 - Exercise everyday - good - 1 pauses left

I noticed this morning that my count on the exercise challenge was off by 1 day, so I fixed it.

Crazy morning again. Just about every school in our area got canceled today due to the cold. It's -16 right now with wind chill down to -34! brrrrrr. Anyways, now I got all the kids home and my plans have changed for the day. Gotta run!

Have a great day!

01-12-2007, 11:57 AM
Way to go, dj!! :cp:
Hang in there, Ash! :cheer:

01-12-2007, 01:58 PM
Hey all. Just wanted one last post before I left. I will be trying hard to stay on track while I am gone. I used my second workout pause yesterday, as I forgot my gym bag when I left for work.

I did go workout this morning, and all my gear is packed for the trip.

Keep up the good work all, and get ready to help me kick it up a notch when I get back

Poopy diaper, time to pick up kids from school. Post later!

:welcome3: Julz

I completed another day of my challenges yday. Today I am adding no alcohol level 3.

01-12-2007, 08:37 PM
Well, I let things slide badly the last two days, but I have taken up the reins of this runaway horse and have saved myself from totally crashing...with 1 pause left on sugar and alcohol..
This is how it looks at the start of Saturday....I am starting two new challenges, another crunch one and and one banning calorie-dense deep-fried foods, rice crackers, nuts and these dumpling things I like to eat....and those are all part of the one challenge!

New Crunch challenge! Day 1 starting/3 pauses left
New No nuts, no deep-fried food, no dumplings, no rice crackers challenge! Day 1 starting/3 pauses left
No sugar Day 20 completed/1 pause left
Fresh vegetable juice Day 13 completed/2 pauses left
No alcohol challenge Day 12 completed/1 pause left

I must say, I am angry at the lack of weight loss. I don't understand how my body can hang on to weight like it does. I am NOT thin. I have lots of fat on my hips and thighs and around my middle and yet it doesn't want to budge. I find it very hard to understand this and to tell the truth am really sick of trying. It shouldn't be this hard to be lean. It really shouldn't. This disgust, frustration was behind my throwing in the towel the past two days. However, I will say I do notice less fat around my middle and will just have to take this for a positive sign, a sign of progress. It WILL disappear (the signs of progress) if I revert to old ways. So, I will try to recharge my resolve and carry on...

I'll try to catch up to you all later. :dancer:

01-13-2007, 12:01 AM
Day 7 no DP completed....1 pause left. I'm getting to where I don't even watch it anymore....WOOHOO!!!

On another note, I weighed yesterday and was down 6 lbs....must be water weight or something....

01-13-2007, 02:13 AM
30 minutes intentional exercise, level 3
16 days completed, 2 pauses taken, 1 remains
Start date 27 December

15 each side of side stretches level 1
11 days completed no pauses taken
start date 3 January

New challenge. Alcohol free Day 1
I'm going out tonight for desserts and have told my friend not to let me drink so fingers crossed that will be day 1 out of the way

catch you all soon

01-13-2007, 09:44 AM
day 15 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 14 - Exercise everyday - good - 1 pauses left

Well, another day notched, but now it's the weekend. I WILL try to find some time to put in some exercise today.

Sweet Pea - My fingers are crossed for you! You can do it!

HP - You're doing great! Congrats on the weight loss too. Even if part of that initial loss is water, it sure makes you feel good and gives you the inspiration to lose even more.

Red - Sorry to hear that you're so frustrated, but I'm glad to hear that your resolve has kicked back in! Don't give up! You ARE seeing positive results and that definitely counts as something good.

:welcome2: Julz! Glad to have you here!

Hi Apple and Jolly!

Have a great weekend everyone!

01-13-2007, 10:05 AM
Morning everyone;

Mind if I join in . . . I am already started and hanging in there.

Drink H2O - Day 12 done
Eat healthy - Day 12 done
Crunches 100 - day 12 done
30 min exercise - day 6

New to all this, but trying to stay motivated, although very intimidated by so many who have lost so much (or actually gained by losing) . . .

I am afraid to weigh myself for fear of becoming completely and hopelessly disheartened.

Everyone keep up the GREAT work and have a great weekend!!

S. Diane

1) Drink 8 glasses of water a day (Level 1) DAY 1 COMPLETE
2) Do complete Pilates DVD (Level 3) DAY 0 COMPLETE
3) Treadmill (Level 3) DAY 0 COMPLETE
4) No Sugar (Level 3) DAY 0 COMPLETE

This is a great idea and I commend all of you ladies for doing so great on all of your challenges.

01-13-2007, 07:10 PM
Good morning, all. I must say, I am not very happy with myself. Yesterday, the thought of giving up all sorts of food suddenly made me eat it all and that after I hadn't been eating it for like two weeks! Ridiculous. I think it was just me acting like a spoiled child and throwing a myself! :dunno: Until I get over my self-disgust, let me just give you where I stand. I'll try to write soon.

Crunch challenge Day 1 completed/3 pauses left
New No nuts, no deep-fried food, no dumplings, no rice crackers challenge! Day 1 starting/3 pauses left
No sugar Day 20 completed/0 pauses left
Fresh vegetable juice Day 13 completed/1 pause left
No alcohol challenge Day 13 completed/1 pause left

I'll start the no calorie-dense food challenge today and finish up sugar as well. I DID the crunches yesterday and would have made the juice if it weren't so late, but thought I'd be OK since I still had pauses left....I didn't have alcohol....hmmm, just trying to tell myself I haven't totally lost it. I guess I was going for need to let a little (semi-big) bit of laxness send everything into the garbage can. I MUST, no I WANT TO hang in there!

01-13-2007, 09:18 PM
Day 5 – exercise, one pause taken
Day 6 – calories, food log, fruit/vege, water

I'm finally back in the gym taking classes starting this week. Went to kickboxing last night and got my butt kicked! Wow - am I every out of shape. I was huffing and puffing after just 20 minutes. On the plus side, my shoulder did very well. It was getting a little sore towards the end, but I was able to make it through the entire hour. Was still able to do an hour of therapy this morning, so I'm feeling pretty pumped about that.

DJ – Brrrr is right! We were at 78 this afternoon, so I’m really happy not to be sharing in that gust of cold.

Julie – Welcome to the 21-day challenge. You’ve got some great challenges there. I can never go without sugar for 21 days and am really in awe of those who can.

Jolly – hope you have a great time on your trip.

Apple – sounds like you’re really on the run again.

Sweet pea – doing great! Good luck with going out tonight. That was a good idea to tell your friend about your alcohol challenge.

Red – wow, you’ve got some significant challenges going on! It is really tough when we’re doing all the right things, and the weight just doesn’t want to budge. Just hang in there, keep on your program and it will happen. Keep the faith!!!

Hpnotq – Down 6 pounds is very exciting and congratulations on the DP goal.

S. Diane – Glad you decided to join us, and with your challenges already in place! This is a great place for support.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

H2O - Day 13 DONE
Eat healthy - Day 13 DONE
Crunches - Day 13 DONE
30 min exercise - Day 7 DONE, actually did 40 minutes today, yeah!!

Same goals for tomorrow . . .

MY RESULTS AS OF 1/14/07 (I not used any pauses, yet)... it's not quite 1/14/07, but I'm not eating anything else before I go to bed, I'll only drink, and probably will be water.

1) Drink 8 glasses of water a day (Level 1) DAY 2 COMPLETE
2) Do complete Pilates DVD (Level 3) DAY 0 COMPLETE
3) Treadmill (Level 3) DAY 1 COMPLETE
4) No Sugar (Level 3) DAY 1 COMPLETE

This is a great idea and I commend all of you ladies for doing so great on all of your challenges.

30 minutes intentional exercise, level 3
17 days completed, 2 pauses taken, 1 remains
Start date 27 December

15 each side of side stretches level 1
12 days completed no pauses taken
start date 3 January

Alcohol free 2 days completed, no pauses taken, 2 pauses remain
start date 13 January 07

The challenges are going well although I'm finding them exhausting. I had a late night last night catching up with a friend who is visiting. She's going back to Australia tmrw. Then during the night the dogs kept barking at hedgehogs so I didn't get much sleep

I did a slightly longer walk today and my legs feel stiff but hopefully will be okay tmrw. The alcohol is the first of my calorie challenges. I was just eating and drinking way too much sugar and alcohol is expensive so out it goes.

Tonight I wanted to make cookies but I decided it was probably just the butter I wanted so I had buttery toast with pesto. Was pretty yummy.

Tmrw I am seeing the specialist and we will discuss my sleep and see what can be done. The blood tests haven't shown anything so I'm not sure if he will want me to do a sleep study or what happens next.
Julz - well done, you've made a great start

Bombera :welcome3: you're already half way there!!!

DJS - hope the weekend wasn't a problem for you and you're still on track :D

Ashley - yep my friend stopped drinking alcohol nearly a year ago (she's a bit of a health nut) so that helped keep me in line. Had to get them to take the wine list away as I kept looking at them and thinking yummy! I've never done kickboxing. I'm sure it must be a really good workout

Red - what;s left to eat LOL  you're doing so many challenges !!! good luck and glad you talked yourself into keeping up with your goals

hpnot - well done

01-14-2007, 07:50 AM
Hello all...trying to make some time here. I've decided to can that new challenge after all, not really because it was too difficult, but I don't think it's what I need right now. While I do need to focus on calories, I want to focus on eating super-healthy at the same time. The calorie-dense foods are going to have to go probably, at least most of them, but not like this. I find myself focusing on the wrong thing! Anyhow, let me have a bit more time to think this over and I'll come back to you with a challenge, maybe....For now, here's where I stand. Not bad considering...considering what?...that I'm a nut case?!?......sigh
Heh, you see?! I finished the sugar challenge!!!! :bravo: Hurrah for me! :encore:
Crunch challenge -- Day 2 completed/3 pauses left
No sugar -- Day 21 completed/FINISHED!!!!
Fresh vegetable juice -- Day 14 completed/1 pause left
No alcohol challenge -- Day 14 completed/1 pause left

sweet pea -- You did it! No alcohol on that night out. Great going! :bravo: You're coming along well on your other challenges too. Not too much left on the exercise one. Keep up the good work! Good point on the alcohol being expensive. I tend to forget that one... :^: not that I can afford it or anything, not to say anything of the taxis spent driving across Tokyo to get home after I miss the last train at half past midnight! Of course, I hate taking the trains home, it's really all for the better that I just cut the drinking big time! I hope you get some sleep and that it's nothing serious. Perhaps it's just hormonal upheaval.

London -- Don't think I welcomed you welcome! :welcome3: I see you've got a no sugar challenge going too and one day in the bag! :cp: Keep it up...Wow, pilates every day?! Tough one! Good luck :goodluck:

Lost -- Welcome to you too! :welcome2: Thank you so much for the encouragement! So, you were doing quite a few stealths, eh? Keep it up. Looks like you're doing a great job! And heh, if weighing is scary, just DON'T do it! Wait till you really know you're down, like when your clothes are hanging on you! :sunny:

Ashley -- I just was wondering...that second challenge...are those three or four all separate or all together? Looks tough! Yeah, I had some significant challenges going, but like I said, I'm canning the one big one. It's not quite fitting me. I am going to come up with something else. It may be harder in the long run, but I think I may start out with just aiming for the end result, in other words, at least putting thought into what I can be doing...hmmm...hard to explain, you'll see.

dj -- How is the weekend going? I hope well. You have the one pause left and that will get you through till the next weekend and the momentum should help then. Best of luck! Yeah, I was super frustrated and depressed but I think I'm back in control again and feeling good about getting back in. It IS tough to lose weight, especially when we're talking like only 30 or so, while keeping quite a bit of muscle. But, I really want to do it. I bet it will feel good! Now, to keep telling myself that....

Hp -- How's it going? You can do it!!! No DP! No DP! :cheer:

Apple -- How's it going there? I'm worried about the quiet....look, we have three people doing no alcohol...keep it going!

jolly -- Quiet from you..what's up? Oh, right, you're on vacation...Vegas, was it? Hope you're enjoying yourself! :beach:

Shad -- Where are you!? :listen:

01-14-2007, 10:46 AM
day 16 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 15 - Exercise everyday - good - 1 pauses left

Made it through one day of the weekend, just one more to go. Yesterday my son talked my into watching a movie with him, so I did an ab workout and lifted some weights while we watched it. I'll try to come up with something today as well.

Red - I'm glad to hear you're dropping that one challenge for now. You've got so much on your plate already! And, :woo: on that sugar challenge. I don't know that I'll ever get to that one! That's so good!

Sweet Pea - Sounds like you're making some very good choices when things are tough. Hope you can get your sleep back on track soon! Things are much tougher when tired.

:welcome: Lost - Glad to have you here. Looks like you're doing great with your challenges!

Ashley - Good job on making it through that entire hour and doing the therapy! Is your shoulder completely recovered now?

Julz - Good, you've got things going now. You can do this!

Have a great day all!

01-14-2007, 11:50 AM
:cheer: You all are doing SO well with your challenges :cheer:

Redballoon: since you've successfully finished a challenge, I have to ask - has it become a habit????

01-14-2007, 02:36 PM
Hi all

Hey Red - thanks for popping in (the other thread) and saying hello!

Remember girl - keep it simple - don't get yourself wrapped up in too many things - little changes. Keep doing one little change until it becomes an unconcious habit.

Good luck to all of you on your challenges and a happy (successful) new year to all!

01-14-2007, 06:32 PM
OK, it's still early in the morning. I wanted to get to the gym but it's closed this morning...I really did want to go. Anyhow, I just did the crunches so the day is notched early and I already changed the number. Don't let me accidentally tag on another day tonight. AND, I just made and drank the vegetable juice. I AM getting things out of the way early today. The other two, sugar and booze, will have to wait til the day's over to see if, no! WHEN, I can call them done!

Fresh vegetable juice -- Day 15 completed/1 pause of 3 left
No alcohol challenge -- Day 14 completed/1 pause of 3 left
Crunch challenge -- Day 3 completed/3 pauses of 3 left
No sugar -- Day 1 starting/3 pauses of 3 left

I didn't weigh myself this morning. Well, I kind of did, with clothes on...then I see if stripping down will likely give me a number I would be happy with....I saw it wouldn't and then I thought, ah, heck, I ate a ton yesterday, so why should I see progress?! I have to remember, my efforts may have been great and good but if they weren't directed at losing fat then I shouldn't expect to have lost any, right!??! :dizzy: I mean, it's kind of like saying I need to make money, then go to the gym all day and work out like a maniac, then the next day check my bank account and act shocked, angry, surprised that there's no money in it!!! :lol3: I laugh, but unfortunately and sadly, this is pretty close to what I'm doing (with the eating/losing fat thing). I've got to wake up. :coach: Get your act together, bozo!!

happy -- Hi there! Hope you enjoy your stay in Japan! Yeah, little changes...I don't know. I need bigger changes, like getting all the little things together at once. Still, that's part of the no sugar challenge. It doesn't mean I lose any weight, because I can easily eat too much of good things. It will make it easier later on when I do consciously reduce the food I put in my mouth and it certainly is making me healthier and upping my energy levels and that has an effect on so many things. I am really pushing myself these days because I simply have to if I want to continue doing the things that mean a lot to me and that perserve my health, physical and mental. And I have come to the realization that I can't do them all unless I really give myself the needed fuel. Anyhow, here's wishing you a great 2007 as well! :sunny:

London -- How's it going with you on your challenges? Don't worry about those 5 lbs! :nono: If you ARE truly reducing your food intake and upping your exercise, then you will see a difference..eventually...emphasis on the eventually. It's probably just water weight and if you hang in there you will lose it. I notice I gain quite a bit before I lose. But, be sure you don't deceive yourself that you are doing a whole lot of exercise if you aren't or don't compensate by eating more afterward. Make sure you are really burning the calories! (I read your blog.) If your room is hot, even a little exercise will get you sweating. But I bet you are doing well there, I just know how easy it is to think because the effort is great, that the calories expended are as well. This I am saying to myself, big time! Part of my problem is that I have such difficult challenges as far as not eating this or not eating that or making something that takes a lot of preparation, cleanup etc. that the effort IS great and I think I have to see results. But it ain't necessarily so! Especially something like not drinking pints after work. The effort to me is HUGE, but really, the effects won't show for a while and some of them will be in other areas, more money, more energy, all things it's easy to not really register unless you have written done what was and then compare. Anyhow, I'm blabbering here and you asked about habits. Well, there too, it depends on the challenge. It's hard to say if things have become a habit. I'd have to say no, that 21 days of anything, especially if there are three pauses in there, can undo decades of the opposite. I would say that my consciousness concerning a certain thing is definitely raised, but that doesn't mean I'll do it! Even the making the vegetable juice. Because of my insane schedule, I can't/don't want to do this at the same time every day so it's harder to make a habit. This is why I constantly redo challenges, over and over and over again untill it does become kind of second nature. I don't think it ever will be though. Habits are simpler things and usually involve some sort of immediate response, like brushing your teeth -- feel yucky, brush, feel better. Other things just aren't so simple. More than habits, I'd say some of the things have become a practice. I am much more likely to do them now because I have done them for three weeks. But habit, nah, I suppose that's not quite the right word. But saying practice sounds like you're trying over and over and it's not really that, is it? I AM doing it. It's just not unconscious. Then again, not all habits are....hmmm....somebody shut me up! :blah:

dj -- Good going on getting through the first half of the weekend! I forget that you're a day behind me. I like that you worked out while watching the movie. Excellent stuff! :cp: Thanks on the sugar challenge wrapup. This isn't my first time to do one, in fact, I've done many of them, but getting started again is never easy. I think the rest may have been, then again I had three days there where I just threw all effort out the window and that was NOT good. If I hadn't wanted to wrap up the challenge, I probably would still be pigging on the stuff. Anyhow, that's why I'm not allowing myself any break, but am jumping right back in with a rerun.

Morning all,
I'm here, I'm here and still challenging (I've been challenging since birth) but I don't always have access to the computer on weekends so I tend to disappear sometimes.

Day 3 and 4 were completed on all challenges
Day 5 I have taken a food pause so there is only 2 left on that one

As it stands, today is day 6 for:
and day 5 for food

Gotta run, but I'll be back to update on others challenging themselves later.

01-14-2007, 06:47 PM
Good to see you Shad! I was worried. So, you're still "challenging" and have been since birth! This is quite amazing. Does this make you a challenging person? or perhaps a challenged person....hmm...uh-oh, I am asking for it again, aren't I? :foot:

 I can't help it...Shad does this to me...sure wish carla was with us too.

01-14-2007, 07:00 PM
Tut tut Red, I am a challenge in itself. Good to see you on the other thread. If you want Carla back, start prodding her about her absence. The cattle prod works well on Carla

01-14-2007, 07:03 PM
 Shad! :lol3: And, I hear you on carla....she just needs to feel needed, missed and sought after, doesn't she? Then again, I just may bring out the Taser!

01-14-2007, 07:14 PM
Atta girl Red. A Taser - well what would one expect from a modern up to date girl in modern up to date Tokyo?

Hey Carla, the taser is worse than the prod. Think about what it will do to the legs and butt (bruises on which are just starting to fade from the prod!)

01-14-2007, 07:26 PM
Evening chickadees

Thanks for the great welcome. I've decided to weigh myself in the AM . . . Yikes . . . it's been two weeks so HOPEFULY (crossing my fingers) there should be a little bit of movement . . . then I plan to go for a swim and sit in the hot tub.

Tomorrow there is a yoga class which i am going to try . . . can I count yoga as exercise???

DAY 14 - Water, crunches, eating healthy DONE :carrot:
Day 8 - 30 min exercise DONE :cp:

Red - AWSOME job on the sugar . . .
SweetPea - You should be soooo PROUD, no alcohol

Great job to everyone . . . you are all a WONDERFUL inspiration for me.

THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

01-14-2007, 07:30 PM
Wow, Shad, don't scare her! Then again, maybe she'd like that..... ;)

Lost, good work! And thanks! Yeah, I'd say you can count yoga as exercise. It may not be the real cardio stuff, but it's exercise allright. Do enough of those down dogs and your heart rate will be up! It does build muscle as well and that will help burn fat. Go for it! :flow1: And good luck on the weigh-in! :goodscale By the way, what mountain is that in your profile? It almost looks like Fuji! :sumo:

01-14-2007, 07:46 PM
It almost looks like Taranaki too!

01-14-2007, 08:12 PM
Yeah, you're right....mountain lesson follows....

Mount Taranaki, New Zealand (dormant volcano)
2,518 meters (8,261 feet)

Mt. Fuji, Japan (active volcano)
3,776 meters (12,388 ft)

mystery mountain...

Ok, Lost, tell us!! :spin: I think it IS the summer, with the mikan trees in the foreground, taken from Lake Kawaguchi....

01-14-2007, 08:39 PM
It doesn't quite look Taranaki enough for me. Not enough rivers and creeks in foreground. Also doesn't have phantoms peak on the left although this is only visible from certain angles - hence the name Phantoms peak.

Are you sure it is not one of those Washington State or Oregon mountains? eg Mt Hood

01-14-2007, 09:33 PM

You all are toooooooooooooo funny, Red don't worry, I used to be a firefighter in an all male fire department, believe me it would take a whole lot more than a bit of talk about tasers and whatnot to frighten me.

As for the mountain, well actually it's a volcano. A year ago in October I went and stayed with a friend of mines family, he stayed here in the U.S. They spoke no english . . . and the picture you see here was my view every morning as I walked to the molino (mill) to grind the corn into masa, only to return to make fresh tortilla . . . that was my job everyday!! When I retire I am going to buy/build a house here so that I can wake up to this beautiful volcano. Yes, Mexico, about 2 hours east of Mexico city, the name . . .
Popocatepetl . . . often referred to as Popo, it's name means "smoking mountain" as it almost always has some kind of activity going on. Elev. 16,500 ft (5000 m)

The link is a live pic to the volcano, it's on the opposite side of my pic, but is very pretty. I look at it every morning and sometimes at night.

My dream . . .

Red and Shad, you two try to behave yourselves and if you can't, call me so I can misbehave with you . . .

01-14-2007, 09:36 PM
Misbehaving? :nono:
Not us - Red and I always behave like this. But it is nice to know that we were both wrong - me several times.
Thanks for the explanation.

Went to the link, but it is night time over there. Can't see much. I'll have a look later in the afternoon.

01-14-2007, 09:58 PM
Day 6 – exercise, level 3, one pause taken
Day 7 – calories 1200-1500, no pauses taken
Day 7 - food log, level 3, no pauses taken
Day 7 – at least 5 fruit/vegetable servings, level 3, no pauses taken
Day 7 – at least 70 oz water, level 3, no pauses taken

Happy day - the two pounds I gained over the holidays are gone, and two of their pesky little friends left with them! Down four pounds total since January 1. To celebrate, I bought a new scale. My old scale was a digital and only the last number was still working. The other two numbers were just lines. The new one actually shows all three numbers.

Enjoyed the pictures and the mountain lesson. We can only dream of mountains in this area, where the highest location within 100 miles is about 75 feet above sea level.

Red – Great big applause for finishing the sugar challenge. There is NO WAY I could give up sugar for 21 days, so I’m really in awe of your accomplishment. My challenges were a little confusing, so I fixed them up.

Lost – nice to see you’re hanging in there. One more week and you’ll be finished with most of your challenges. Good luck with your weigh-in tomorrow. I’ve done yoga – it absolutely counts as exercise.

Julz– Hang in there. You’re sure to see results next week with those challenges.

Sweet pea – good job putting down the wine list after it was in your hand, and with turning your back on the cookies.

DJ – Lifting weights while watching a movie is a tremendous accomplishment.

Shad – the mountain picture you posted was just beautiful.

Hope everyone has a great Monday. Enjoy the day off to those of you celebrating MLJ day tomorrow.

01-14-2007, 11:31 PM
Day 9 no DP...1 pause left :)

Hope everyone is doing well!

01-15-2007, 08:04 AM
Ok, all, sorry, no time to write now! Good to see you all though! :grouphug: Later!!

Fresh vegetable juice -- Day 15 completed/1 pause of 3 left
No alcohol challenge -- Day 15 completed/1 pause of 3 left
Crunch challenge -- Day 3 completed/3 pauses of 3 left
No sugar -- Day 1 completed/3 pauses of 3 left

01-15-2007, 08:59 AM
Morning everyone;

Red, you hang in there on that sugar challeng . . . I am sooooooo proud of you, another sugar challenge . . . question - Do you do honey or is it refined sugar only . . .

Hpnotq - look at all those cows piling up, makes me think of the commercial where they have the cows stacked on top of one another, something about making them easier to find or sticking together . . . I don't remember

Ashley, one week DONE!! Great job, thanks for the yoga info . . . I've never done yoga, but have heard it "calms" you and i need that. I am sure I am hyperactive (can you say A-D-D)

Shad; hmmmmmm, I was going to say: try to behave today, but what fun would that be, the mountain/volcano pics are great . . . fuji does look a lot like popo, maybe they are the same type of volcano

I got up the nerve and faced that scale head on, of course I had a little talk with it first, told it to be kind to me and what not . . .

Goals, same as before, just keep on doing it one day at a time

Thank you ALL for your support and kind words.

Have a Marvelous Monday

1) Drink 8 glasses of water a day (Level 1) DAY 3 COMPLETE
2) Do complete Pilates DVD (Level 3) DAY 0 COMPLETE
3) Treadmill (Level 3) DAY 0 COMPLETE
4) No Sugar (Level 3) DAY 0 COMPLETE

Ok, I have some changes to the rules on mine..... I'm not making excuses, promise. I wrote out my workout "schedule" on a calendar yesterday - and I am taking a day off from all exercises on Sundays (I will still be working as this is the day that I clean our house from top to bottom, do all of our laundry, etc). I am doing that Couch-5k thing from - I have completed the first one. So - I will do that every other day (along with weights) - and on the in between days - I will do my regular power-walking on the treadmill.... with Sundays off. So, instead of taking a "pause" each Sunday - I just won't count the day in my "completes".... since it will be a scheduled day off. Does this make sense?

As far as the sugar - well, I just plain screwed that one up yesterday! :club: :snooty: :nono: I didn't COMPLETELY bomb it. My defintion of "sugar" is all refined sugar..... and I had a cup of decaf. coffee last night... I can't drink mine without a little sugar..... so, instead of taking a pause so early in the game, I thought I'd start anew...

Redballoon - I can say that our workout room here on property keeps their thermostat at 69 degrees farenheit, and keeps ceiling fans running.... so, it really was me :woops: But, I totally get what you're saying. And - you've got me on my toes now about really paying close attention to what I put in my mouth and how much of it. I will be keeping a food diary on my kitchen counter and will follow the old addage of "before it hits my lips.... write it down!". I bet this will really open my eyes.... you're a wonderful help with this whole thing. And me being a "newbie" (I know my join date says Feb. 2005, but I think I came here 2 times after I joined then.... my re-join date was about 2 weeks ago, and I come here many times a day) I can use all the help I can get - even if it feels like someone stepping on my toes.... I have to know that everyone here is here to HELP ME, not to criticize me.... :p

Sweet Pea - you are doing so good! I can't wait to get on that side of my numbers. It's always been hard for me to stick with something if I don't see immediate results.... way to go!

djstorey - how did you do with the last day of the weekend? Weekends are rough for me. The hubby is home all day, both days. It's easier to just relax and let my temptations take over..... but, you're more than halfway there - I'm sure you can stick with it!

LostBombera - whoohoo for you! Good luck with those scales! I hate the scales right now - someday I hope to have a loving relationship with them. But, right now - they're my enemy and I love defeating them! (*insert Xena:Warrior Princess picture here). OH, I do some yoga sometimes. I'm a sufferer of anxiety - and I find that when I'm having an anxiety attack, yoga really does help to relax me / get my mind off of it. But, it does work your muscles too - and helps with balance. I used to think it was kind of an "L.A." thing to do (ya know, you hear about all of the yuppy celebrities that do it) but, I've grown to really like it! So, where do I sign up to be a yuppy? haha

Ashley - how ya hanging in there? I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to do kickboxing - but, I need to lose a few more pounds, I'm afraid that once I got 240 lbs. moving in one direction, that quickly - it'd be hard to stop it..... I'm getting a mental image in my head and it's funny.... I wish everyone else could see it!

Hpnotq - ah....DP... Dr. Pepper - I used to have an absolute obsession with this drink... But, about 6 months ago, I started having heart flutters (which were associated with my weight, and anxiety [which was triggered by Post Partum Depression....OYE!]). So, I decided to cut out all caffeine... and I'm proud to say I haven't had any DP for nearly 6 months (or any caffeine for that matter). I had a sip of my DH's DP a couple of weeks ago, and it tasted like straight sugar, syrup - not at all the way I remembered it tasting. HEY - that's a 21 day challenge that I completed and it became a habit!!!! YAY! haha! Keep it up - you'll be so proud of yourself when you don't want it anymore.... not to mention your body (and teeth) will thank you!

ok, I think that's all for now........... I love all you guys! :grouphug: This forum makes me laugh so much - and helps me to know I'm not the only one in this boat :balloons: that in itsself is a life saver! :cloud9:

I haven't been posting because I hardly have time....I want to be able to support everyone else too!
But once again, just a fly-by....
No beer: Have to restart, celebrated my brothers birthday last night...
Exercise: Day 5 complete

01-15-2007, 07:31 PM
day 17 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 16 - Exercise everyday - pause - 0 pauses left

For some reason, my son, (almost 3yr) is just not sleeping lately. I think I got about 5 hours sleep on Saturday night and I only got about 3 1/2 hours last night. By the time I actually had a chance to workout on Sunday, I just didn't have any energy left, so I used my last pause. Luckily, I should still make my challenge though. I'm pretty dedicated during the week, sleep or not, so I should finish that challenge by the end of the week.

Anyway, I DID manage to read everyones posts, but my brain is not working well at the moment, so I'll catch up with you all later, hopefully after a good nights sleep tonight!

01-15-2007, 10:55 PM
Afternoon all,

What with the excitement of the mountains yesterday I almost forgot to post today.

Day 7 done on water and exercise. 1 pause and 3 pauses left respectively.
Day 6 done on food. 2 pauses left.

And if I don't get on with it today will be a pause day on water. Only 2 glasses down so far, 4 to go. Also exercise to go today as well. Food is all planned out so that should be fine.

Slowly catching up on who is posting here. Nice to seem some new and some old (no, not in years - tut tut) faces.

Back later or maybe tomorrow.

Another successful day
Water - Day 15
Eat healthy - day 15
Crunches - Day - 15
30 min exercise - Day 9 actually I did a yoga/pilates workout for 1 hour 20 minutes and it kicked my butt!!! But, I liked it

I don't mean to be stupid, but . . . what is a "pause"

Also, I'd love to get a yoga or pilates DVD, I'd like to have one as I am going to be moving in with my best friend, he has a house and I won't have access to the apartment clubhouse and all the things they offer. Suggestions??

Julz, distory, Shad . . . you all are doing so great. You all motivate me !!!!

Took a pause for exercise, still day 5 (it's level 2, so one more to go) and still can't get going on the no beer, as usual. Sorry Red, I'll be good from now on!!! I am so impressed as to how your no alcohol challenge is going! Good for you!!

Gotta run. Late for another stupid meeting already.

01-16-2007, 07:49 PM
day 18 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 16 - Exercise everyday - good - 0 pauses left

Well, got my challenges met yesterday even though I was tired. I can't say I put my all into my workout, but I did do it. Luckily my son slept last night! It was so nice to get a decent night's sleep last night!

Lost - I myself don't do yoga or pilates, but head on over to the exercise video thread. I know I've seen suggestions there for both. Also check out collagevideo on the web. They have reviews on lots of videos and preview clips too.

Shad - You're doing good, keep it up!

Apple - Sorry about the pause and the beer thing! Don't give up though, you can do it!

Julz - Yes, weekends are tough. Especially on Sundays during football season when my husband takes over the living room, which is where I workout. I also cook on weekends which makes the calorie thing tough. I did at least, log all my calories. The workout unfortunately didn't happen.

By the way, I admire both you and Red for that no sugar challenge! I don't know if I'll ever get to that one!

Hi Ashley, HP, Red and Sweet Pea! Hope everyone is doing great!

01-16-2007, 10:21 PM
Day 7 – exercise, level 3, two pauses taken
Day 8 – calories 1200-1500, 1 pause taken
Day 8 - food log, level 3, 1 pause taken
Day 8 – at least 5 fruit/vegetable servings, level 3, 1 pause taken
Day 8 – at least 70 oz water, level 3, 1 pause taken

Bad day today, so I ended up taking a pause on everything. Just passing through to confess.

01-16-2007, 10:50 PM
Hey Ashley don't feel too bad, we all have days like that, that's why we have pauses. And that's why we don't give up!!!!

My committed exercise challenge is becoming hard. The gym I signed into up here only opens early Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So the other two days of the week I have to come in the afternoons or find another way to exercise. I do have the pool downstairs but because I am a tightwad I figure I paid for the gym, I'd better use it. So a couple of times I have gone in the afternoon. Now because I am a morning person, this is really hard. Last night I couldn't get the bike under control and it really peeved me right off. I've now decided that if I go in the afternoon, it will be for weights and resistance stuff and not cardio. That's just too hard.
I don't even like going at 9.00am or 12.00 midday in the weekends. Guess I am getting old and staid hey?!

Okay, better go strike another blow for the cause. See you all tomorrow.

01-16-2007, 11:09 PM
Evening all

I didn't think I was going to make it today . . . but I forced myself

Day 16 Water, crunches, eat healthy - :D
Day 10 - 30 min exercise - (I did the 1 hour yoga, again . . . oh my)

djstorey and red: thanks for the info, found the exercise/yoga/videos thread
still figuring thing out here . . .

Ashley and Apple blossom, hang in there . . . tomorrow is another day

Everyone have a good night, Yoga kicked my big bad butt AGAIN, so I'm off to shower and BED !!!

2) Do complete Pilates DVD (Level 3) DAY 2 COMPLETE
3) Treadmill (Level 3) DAY 2 COMPLETE
4) No Sugar (Level 3) DAY 2 COMPLETE

Hey all! Just posting my totals for the day. I'm finding that the water challenge isn't as much of a challenge anymore... not saying that there won't be a day that it won't be hard.... but - I'm just more aware of it now. Someone in some thread on this entire 3FC forum said sometime that when you're feeling hungry, drink water first - because you may just be thirsty and your body is sending out hunger signals (or something to that effect). I can say that this theory has been tested with me. I'll have a hunger pain and I'll down some water and I'll find that I'm not hungry. Or like tonight, 5 minutes after dinner, we were watching American Idol and I felt the need to munch. So, I grabbed a water bottle instead. And VIOLA - no more munchy needs....

The juice is going to be tough. I'll have next to no time tomorrow to make it but I will!! Alcohol is going to be a pause tomorrow with a party at work but I just know I can get through till 21! :spin: Crunches and sugar, I will prevail. Almost took a pause on sugar today...then just said, No!

Day 8 – exercise, level 3, two pauses taken
Day 9 – calories 1200-1500, 1 pause taken
Day 9 - food log, level 3, 1 pause taken
Day 9 – at least 5 fruit/vegetable servings, level 3, 1 pause taken
Day 9 – at least 70 oz water, level 3, 1 pause taken

Almost 9:00 and I just got home. It's been a busy week already. I went to the gym Monday night and took a cardio class. The instructor had us do at least a million squats. I was fine yesterday, now today I can hardly walk. The process of sitting down anywhere and then getting up again is a real comedy show - consisting of "ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch". Sad how out of shape I became in just three months without the gym. Lost more weight, but certainly lost my fitness level. Oh well, it's made me even more committed to getting back in there and sticking with the program!

Hope everyone else is doing well. I'll write more tomorrow.

I don't believe that I am almost halfway through this challenge already. Woo Hoo :woohoo:

01-17-2007, 11:30 PM
Hi all. Wow - gone a few days, and look at how we have grown!

I am back from my vacation. What a wonderful trip! I loved Vegas. Unfortunately, I have to restart my challenges tomorrow. While I did a lot of walking, I didn't get any intentional exercise in - they charged $20 per day to use the gym/spa at the hotel I was at :fr: And, while I wasn't eating crazy, I really didn't keep track of fruits and vegetables.

Anyway, just wanted to hop in. See you all tomorrow

01-18-2007, 08:50 PM

'nother flyby I'm afraid.

Day 10 on water done (no pauses taken)
Day 9 on exercise (pause day yesterday)
Day 9 on food (2 pauses left)

Gotta run. :genie:

01-18-2007, 08:55 PM
day 20 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left

day 18 - Exercise everyday - good - 0 pauses left

Just stopping by to catch myself up here. I should have a little more time tomorrow. Hope you all are doing well!

01-18-2007, 09:00 PM
Day 9 – exercise, level 3, two pauses taken
Day 10 – calories 1200-1500, 1 pause taken
Day 10 - food log, level 3, 1 pause taken
Day 10 – at least 5 fruit/vegetable servings, level 3, 1 pause taken
Day 10 – at least 70 oz water, level 3, 1 pause taken

Just got in from the gym - did a one-hour cardio/weight class. I'm looking forward to the day when I'm not huffing and puffing 15 minutes into the class.

Jolly - welcome back. $20 per day - that is a crime!

Shad - 1/2 way through is great. You're heading for the downhill side of your challenge.

Julz - Sounds like the southern plains have been pounded with storms. Did you lose power outages at your house? How is the couch 5k working for you? We have a bridge run/walk coming up here in April. I know I can walk it but it seems pretty steep for running.

Lost - I like the 2 sticks of butter visual. I can just see the two sticks stuck right to my hips.

Red & DJ – you’re both getting real close to the end of some challenges. Hang in there and stay strong!

Apple – let us know how you do on the coach 5k.

01-18-2007, 10:29 PM
We used to have a lady who posted on this site who had lost around 100lbs or more. Often when she was in the supermarket, she would make a display of the number of packets of fat or butter that she had lost over the month, week etc. It must have been a fantastic sight to see. I wonder how many shoppers actually understood what she was doing or even wondered about the pile of fat on the shelf?

01-18-2007, 10:36 PM
1) Drink 8 glasses of water a day (Level 1) DAY 7 COMPLETE
2) Do complete Pilates DVD (Level 3) DAY 4 COMPLETE
3) Treadmill (Level 3) DAY 4 COMPLETE (I actually power-walked 3 miles on the treadmill tonight - it felt so good!):woops:
4) No Sugar (Level 3) DAY 4 COMPLETE

DJ & Red - :carrot: :bravo: :woohoo: :cb: You guys are doing SO good, I can't wait to be on that side of my challenges!!!!

Ashley - We've had 3+ inches of solid ice on the ground, trees, cars, roads, etc. since last Friday!! It's NUTS... some of it finally melted today (not much), but they are calling for us to get 5-8" of snow on Saturday!! Luckily we have not lost power. We do have a relatives house to go to if we were to lose power. Thank God! I know that a lot of people have had to go to shelters. This is unreal and something that I have never seen in my 27 years of life.

The C25K is going great! Today was my off day (which is why I did the power walking). Tomorrow, I'm supposed to start Week 2 day 1, but I think I'm going to repeat the first weeks training this coming week just to make sure my body is fully accustomed to running. I haven't ran (other than running to the car in the rain) since High School (8 years ago).

You are all doing so great! :high: High 5's for you all!!!!!

Evening all;

sorry Ashley, I laughed soooo hard about your standing and sitting issues . . . not at you, just VERY close. I feel like I've been there a lot the past 10 or 11 days. Yes, I love the butter thing, but Ashley it's 4 sticks of butter . . .

1 pound = FOUR sticks of butter . . .

It's sooooo exciting, several people almost done their challenges, snow in Oklahoma (do you even have snow plows down there??),

Sweatpea :congrat: on your challenge . . . you should be SO proud of you!!

Everyone else is doing great.
for me . . . sheer determination right now . . .

Water - Day 18 - :D
Crunches - Day 18 - :D
Eat healthy - Day 18 - :D
30 min exercise - Day 12 - :D (actually I did 40 min eliptical in the AM and just finished the 1 hour yoga) I think I may be in trouble in the AM when I try to crawl out of bed . . .

Everyone have a great night

:dust: just in case

01-18-2007, 11:50 PM
...snow in Oklahoma (do you even have snow plows down there??),

hahahahahha.... if you could only see some of the people down here.... everyone just kind of stops and stares at everyone like "uhhhhhh........... what now?" Ok, that's a little dramatic - but, it did kind of take everyone by surprise.....

01-19-2007, 05:13 AM
WOW I'm exhausted but I'm happy I achieved the first part of my challenge. Unfortunately walking doesn't burn many calories so I am going to have to think about either adding more high intensity exercise or increasing the duration. I managed the alcohol free so my current challenges are:

15 each side of side stretches level 1
16 days completed 1 pause taken, start date 3 January

Alcohol free 7 days completed, no pauses taken, 2 pauses remain
start date 13 January 07

I'm pleased. I was craving something sweet or some wine but I didn't have it. Did have 2 helpings of dinner though so I'm not wildly ahead on cravings. Nothing reflected in the scales but my goal for "phase1" of my goals was to get into a healthy habit and to feel better emotionally. The daily exercise has definitely been helping my mood.

I'd like to trim some inches next so I will review my goals over the weekend.

Bombera - well done you're getting really close to achieving your challenges!

DJ - you;re even closer. I admire anyone who can count calories. I always start out with great intentions but within a few days I completely forget to write everything down LOL

Julie - I haven't run for a long time either. The only time I run is to grab the phone or chase my dogs when they're doing naughty things

Ashley an hour of exercise is GREAT! I'm sure everyone is huffing and puffing after 15 mins. There wouldn't be much point doing it if you didn't break a sweat, right?

Jolly sounds like you had a great vacation, even if you couldn't use the gym

Shad Red & others

Fresh vegetable juice -- Day 18 completed/0 pauses of 3 left
No alcohol challenge -- Day 18 completed/0 pauses of 3 left
Crunch challenge -- Day 6 completed/2 pauses of 3 left
No sugar -- Day 4 completed/2 pauses of 3 left

Good to hear people are still keeping up. I had a couple pauses, but am still on track. Don't want to quit now, with the momentum going. It would be a shame to start over again. The workweek is over! I'll be coming up for air sometime Saturday afternoon I think. Till then, hold the fort without too much out of me, please! :^: Sorry!

01-19-2007, 10:51 AM
day 21 - Counting calories - good - 2 pause left - DONE!

day 19 - Exercise everyday - good - 0 pauses left

Ok, I finished the calorie counting challenge and I'll start new challenges as soon as I finish the exercise one.

I also changed my weight tracker. I feel like I need to start looking at the rest of my weight loss in a different way. I just want to try a few small weight goals, so I'm going with 10 pounds at a time. I think I end up falling into that trap of looking at the big picture too often and not at the small goals that are easier to deal with. This is especially true after gaining 10 pounds back over the summer vacations, holidays, etc...

Red - Glad to hear you're still on track and look forward to hearing more from you soon!

Sweet Pea - :woo: Good job on that challenge! To top it off, you're doing great on your other challenges as well!
Yes, counting calories can be a pain, however, after a while it does become a habit, so it's not too bad now that I've been back to it for while.

Lost - You're doing great too! You're almost done with 3 of your challenges and more than half way on your 4th. Good job!

London - I've been hearing about those ice storms you have been getting and I don't envy you! We get snow here, which of course turns to ice as people drive on it, but as far as "ice storms", I can't even imagine!

Shad - What a thought, piling up butter on the shelf at the store! I can't imagine what I would be thinking if I saw that!

Ashley - Looks like you're doing good with your challenges! I'm sure that you'll notice an improvement rather quickly now that you're working out again. It seems that when I have taken a break during vacations and such, that my workouts seem really hard for a while, but suddenly I'll notice a big improvement. I know you had to take quite a bit of time off, but you'll get there before you know it! :carrot:

Have a great day everyone!

01-19-2007, 10:48 PM
Evening everyone;

djstorey - :congrat: on the calorie counting, :woohoo:

Day 19 Water - :)
Day 19 Crunches - :)
Day 19 Eat healthy - :)
Day 13 30 min exercise -:faint:

It's been a putzy/pity party kind of day . . . I did my exercise (30 min yoga tape, easy stretches and moves) maybe overdid it yesterday . . . but i did it. I almost didn't I but would be fit to be tied if I had to start over now . . . I'm half way there and am not going to give up now.

OK, pity party over

hope everyone is geared up for the weekend

Well, 1 more day on the exercise to go and although it's a weekend (my toughest time), I will make it one way or another.

I'll start my new challenges on Monday. I've got to think of exactly what I'm going to do yet.

Have a great weekend everyone!

day 21 - Exercise everyday - good - 0 pauses left - DONE

Had one of those rare opportunities this morning to get in my workout. It's actually the 1st time I tried working out while my youngest was awake and no one was around to help me watch him. He actually did pretty good. He only made me stop once to refill his cup. Guess I should have thought of that before working out!

Have a great weekend everyone! I'll come back with new challenges on Monday!

2) Do complete Pilates DVD (Level 3) DAY 5 COMPLETE (0/3 pauses taken)
3) Treadmill (Level 3) DAY 5 COMPLETE (1/3 pauses taken)

Tomorrow (Sunday) is supposed to be my scheduled "off day"... but I made that day today.... although I still did the treadmill and water....

01-21-2007, 06:45 AM
Allright, everyone. I just got down and did the crunches..and even raised my feet off the air for part of them. That makes it real tough! :barf: Before that I made and drank the vegetable juice. I'm getting to really like this. I just think how healthy it is and how bright it'll make my eyes!

Fresh vegetable juice -- Day 20 completed/0 pauses of 3 left
No alcohol challenge -- Day 20 completed/0 pauses of 3 left
Crunch challenge -- Day 8 completed/2 pauses of 3 left
No sugar -- Day 5 completed/1 pause of 3 left

Well, I took another pause on sugar, just for a bit...I don't know...I just had a real craving for it today and thought I'd probably eat more food if I didn't have a bit of sugar, so I did.

But, I didn't go hog wild like I usually do. And for that, I'm proud of myself. Today, I was really bummed about being so fat. I went to the store to buy on jeans and the mirror just got to me. It's like, my God, why don't I see it at other times?!?!

London -- You're moving right along. I see you've used up all your sugar pauses, though. Best of luck making it through. You CAN do it!

Lost -- Yes, yoga is wonderful. I keep wanting to get back into it...just never have the time or space (I mean it!) but I will at some point. I really need to get flexible. And, wow, look at you go!! You're almost finished with three of your challenges!! WOW!! I hadn't realized, having been away so much. What a great thing. How do you feel?! And I don't think you sounded like a pity party at all the other day. I mean, you did the exercise! :bravo:

Shad -- Good going! :cp:

Rabmonk -- Welcome!! :welcome3: You've taken on quite a few challenges! Best of luck! :goodluck:

dj -- Congrats on yet another challenge done!!!! :congrat: Wow!!! :woo: :woo: :woo: And I'd say that was progress on working out while your little one was awake and watching. I remember my mother always working out to Jack Lalanne and it probably had an effect on me. You're helping yourself and setting a great example! I hear you on "looking at the rest of my weight loss sin a different way." Perhaps that's what I need, just looking at a bit, instead of imagining myself with ripped abs. I know they say image training is good for you and maybe I still should do it, but the image of ripped abs in my head and the image in the mirror just makes me want to cry.

sweet pea -- Oh goodness, hadn't realized you'd finished your exercise challenge!! So sorry for the belated congratulations!! :cp: :cp: :woo: :encore: :woo: :cp: :cp: And look at you go with the others, alcohol too! What a save with the craving the other day. Wish I could say the same about me today....:^:

Ashley -- How are you doing? Last I see you were looking good around 10. One-hour cardio! Wow! Now that'll burn the fat! :flame:

jolly -- So glad to hear you had a good vacation! :beach: We look forward to having you with us again! Don't be long!

Apple -- Where are you!? :listen: Are you still going on the no-alcohol? Yeah, it's been hard, but I'm almost through. And, you know, it's getting easier to just go home and not hang out. In fact, the other day, I actually called a friend to see which bar he was in, but then said, nah, I'll let you guys carry on and I went home! Now, that is unusual! And the other night I did have some I quit after just a couple. Ok, I admit, it's not much fun, but I'm doing it to try to cut the calories. Though I'm not seeing much in results, I think it'll start showing up. I plan to do a few more rounds! Well, on or off the wagon, please keep at your challenge, restart or no. :woohoo:

Ok, all, I'm gonna go. I hope I can get time to talk more this week.

01-21-2007, 07:05 AM
Ahh well it turns out that the alcohol thing was really good for 7 days. Then I gave in yday. And guess what? Today I completely forgot I was doing a challenge and bought more wine. Still have some left. That makes that challenge a wash. I'll decide tmrw whether to start afresh or take the 2 pauses and try and do the rest alcohol free. Turned out to be harder than I thought. Surprised me as I've gone long periods without but I think the summer weather is making me want to sit outside and have a few drinks. In my mind they all go together

Red did I miss something? Is this a new sugar challenge - did you finish the last 21 days and I didn't see it? You'll be finished your challenges tmrw. Very impressed. I think the vege juice challenge is a great idea. I'd do it if I wasn't so incredibly lazy. Too much hard work cleaning the juicer

Sometimes there are so many posts I miss stuff.

DJ well done on the calories :cool: I am thinking of doing a calorie counting challenge. So far just thinking about it

Did a huge walk today. Ok not huge but longer than normal. Did my side thingees. Need to rethink my new goals.

I'll catch up on everyone else soon. I've had major puter dramas. Got a very nasty trojan on here that my virus checker didn't pick up. Took me a while to fix. For some reason it stuffed up my browser and windows aren't opening properly. Also this new AV software is slowing my system. I might take it off now that I've got rid of the greeblie

01-21-2007, 07:14 AM
sweet -- Howdy! Yeah, it's a new sugar challenge and I DID finish the other one! :cp: Too bad about the no-alcohol challenge. Well, maybe you can still keep going. It would be tough in the summer. It's easier here with the cold. I've tried them before and failed, but, I don't know...I think the timing was just right this time around, with the new year and all. Too bad about the computer! Hope you get that out of there for good. Oh, yeah, the juicing. You asked before and I hadn't said. I now have a big new juicer that ejects the pulp, but the thing is so big I haven't tried it yet. I use a little one that keeps the pulp inside. I used to get real annoyed by it because I'd have to clean it out halfway through, but now I just make less juice and it usually can keep going for that. It's not that hard to clean once you get into the habit of just immediately rinsing off the parts. Well, I don't know what kind you had. You really should get one that's relatively easy to clean. Drinking veggie juice just makes me feel so good and good about what I'm doing for myself! :spin: Well, hang in there!

01-21-2007, 04:29 PM
Just passing through for a quick post. I've been sick with a wretched cold for the past few days. Haven't been able to do any exercise, other than moving from the bed to the couch and back again. The only things I'm still on track with are the calories and water. Hope everyone is doing well.

Day 13– calories 1200-1500, 1 pause taken
Day 13 – at least 70 oz water, 1 pause taken

01-21-2007, 05:47 PM
Ashley! Get well soon!! :getwell:

01-21-2007, 06:24 PM
Took a pause on all three challenges yesterday. The water was close but not quite there and in the spirit of the challenge, I can not tell a lie.
The boss took us out to lunch and that blew the food out of the water although I did chose wisely and cut the crap entrees - however again in the spirit of the challenge........ and I just plain stayed on the couch when I got in.

Tough but there you go.

Better fly - this boss will be expecting extra now he has given us lunch.

01-21-2007, 09:14 PM
Evening chickadees

Everyone is doing sooo well,

Julz; look at you go, almost halfway on the water
Sweet pea; take care of yourself
Red; you ROCK, always an inspiration
Shad; way to be HONEST with yourself, you should be proud

Water: Day 21 - DONE
Crunches: Day 21 - DONE
Eat healthy: Day 21 - DONE
30 min exercise - Day 15 - DONE

I think I'm just going to try to be conscious of my completed challenges and if I do well, then I'm going to create new ones when I'm done the exercise.

You all have a great night

01-21-2007, 11:36 PM
hi all
]popping in to let you know. having computer hassles. can't get into my email. wasting a lot of time trying to fix/find things

will probably be away a few days until i get everything caught up

have fun all

01-22-2007, 09:34 AM
Ok, all! I'm through on two more!!! :dizzy: Hurrah for me! Juiced, but not!!! :lol3:
And I went to a reception and had NO alcohol and NO sugar!! Wow! :encore:

Fresh vegetable juice -- Day 21 completed/0 pauses of 3 left
No alcohol challenge -- Day 21 completed/0 pauses of 3 left
Crunch challenge -- Day 9 completed/2 pauses of 3 left
No sugar -- Day 6 completed/1 pause of 3 left

Gotta get some shut-eye. Take care all!

01-22-2007, 10:28 AM
No Alcohol(Level 1) ON DAY 14 (0/1 pauses)
8 Glasses of water(Level 1) ON DAY 1(again:( ) (0/1 pauses)
15 min exercise(Level 3) ON DAY 1(again :( ) (0/3 pauses)
Count calories(Level 1) ON DAY 5 (0/1 pauses)

01-22-2007, 11:19 AM
1) Drink 8 glasses of water a day (Level 1) DAY 10 COMPLETE(0/1 pauses taken)
2) Do complete Pilates DVD (Level 3) DAY 5 COMPLETE (0/3 pauses taken)
3) Treadmill (Level 3) DAY 5 COMPLETE (1/3 pauses taken)
4) No Sugar (Level 3) DAY 5 COMPLETE (0/3 pauses taken)

It is with a very heavy heart that I have to resign on 2 of my challenges... the Pilates and the Treadmill. At 2:30 yesterday morning, a police officer showed up at our door to speak to my husband.... long story short - my husband was taken to jail and has been charged with a crime that even he is dumbfounded about. So - I can't do the treadmill because I am the only one with my kids now.....and the treadmill is in a different building. I'm not sure I'll be able to do Pilates for a few days. I am in absolute shock and haven't been able to eat anything since he left..... I just feel nauseous. My husband has never been in trouble with the law....... I think he has a speeding ticket from 2 years ago. That's it.... no drinking, smoking, drugs.......
I still want to be a part of this board, though. This board has been so encouraging to me with my weight loss, and I know that all of the people on here are sincere and care. You all are my friends - and it's my friends that will help to get me through this.
Anyway ..... that's about it.....

Just, for all of you who are spiritual - keep my entire family in your prayers.

Hello everyone . It's great to hear that everyone is doing so well.
Red and DJ!! great work on your challenges!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I love it when this challenge thing actually WORKS (even though I can't seem to get the idea!) At least I know how HARD it is and kudos to you, DJ and Red, for making it!!!
I am really slipping backwards and I think it's time to take control. Both my challenges are out the window, but I'm starting over with the whip cracking!!:rollpin:
1) No Beer (level 2)
2) 30 min intentional exercise (level 2)
3) Log foods on fitday (level 3) I may not always have computer access, so I'll try to at least mentally keep track and log it when I can)
Plus, I'm doing a mini exercise challenge of 1/2 hour of step video for the next 4 nights. That can count as my daily exercise, but I'd prefer it to be additional.
OK. I'm gonna do it this time!!!

01-22-2007, 01:22 PM
Morning all, (almost afternoon here)

Julz; I am so sorry, try to stay strong, we will be here for you. I can understand that you don't want to eat, but you need to eat something, try to make it something healthy.

Red: woman; you amaze me everyday . . . :congrat: on the alcohol and juice challenge. AND you went to a reception and "behaved" you should be soooooooo PROUD.

Rab; look at you go 14 days for the alcohol challenge . . . you're on the downhill slide now, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Sweetpea . . . computers, UGH! what can I say . . . they're like men, can't live with them, can't live without 'em.

Well I'm down to one challenge for the next several days

30 min exercise - Day 16 (massage planned after day 21) :woo:

Everyone have a nice day. It's cold here, so I'm going to look for spicy peanut butter and pick up a few things, then I think laundry . . . I'll make it an EASY Monday

01-22-2007, 01:24 PM
Apple, we must have been posting at the same time;

So glad you're back on track!!!

01-22-2007, 03:47 PM
Just a quick post today, got to get my little one down for his nap and get the husband out the door.

New challenges:

At least 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - Level 3
Calories under 1800 - level 3

Sorry to hear about things Julz  ! Hope everything gets straightened out quickly!

Have a great day everyone!

01-22-2007, 06:20 PM
Sorry to hear of your problems Julz - keep strong. If a mistake has been made it will be sorted out soon.

Red - big congrats. You rock girl :encore: :encore:

Day 13 done for water - no more pauses.
Day 12 for food and exercise - 2 pauses left on each

Gotta run. Got 2 days work to do today instead of one and keep my rooster chicks motivated and busy. Woman's work is never done.

01-22-2007, 08:39 PM
:drill: :drill: SELF PITY ALERT!! SELF PITY ALERT!! :drill: :drill:

OK. I need some serious kicks in the rear or something. I have great plans. Great goals. I decided that I want to train for a half marathon this year. Yet, I continue to make bad choices that take me further and further from my goals. I am not working out. Not riding my horse regularly. Eating purely crappy foods in sumo sized portions.

HELP! I've fallen (off the wagon) and I can't get back on. HELP!

01-22-2007, 10:12 PM
:kickbutt: :frypan: :kickbutt: :frypan: :kickbutt: :frypan: :kickbutt: Oh poor Jolly :kickbutt: :frypan: :kickbutt: :frypan: :kickbutt: :frypan: :kickbutt:

But hang on, no one said it was going to be easy. Go back to those goals, reaffirm the desire to be at the end place and I think you will find the way again. Don't forget that long range target goals can be de-motivating (is there such a word?) because they are so far away. Try a few short term, weekly, monthly or even daily goals to get you going again.

Self pity party is over Jolly - get back with it

01-23-2007, 10:22 AM
4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - Level 3
Calories under 1800 - good - level 3

Well, got one day down. I'm going to have to watch those fruits/vegies though. It seems my normal intake (when I'm not paying much attention) is about 3 servings a day. I know 5 is the supposed magical number, but I'll keep working on 4 per day for now.

Calories at around 1800 seem to be working for me. The scale has gone down a little and my clothes are feeling a little loser. I'm wondering if, with all the exercise I do that maybe I wasn't taking in enough calories before and that's why I kept hitting those plateau's? I think I'll keep this level as long as it's working. No more trying to speed things up!

Jolly - Come on, you can get back on that wagon! Take the suggestion that Shad gave you. Go with those short term goals, take baby steps to get going again. It's too overwhelming when you try to take on too much at once.

Shad - Keep it up! You're doing good!

Lost - Awesome job on the challenges! You deserve that massage!

Apple - Glad to see you coming back and trying again! Never give up! You can do it!

Red - Wow, you're on a roll! :woo:

Hi Julz, Rab, Ashley, SweetPea and anyone I missed! Hope you are all doing well!

01-23-2007, 10:33 AM
No Alcohol(Level 1) ON DAY 15 (0/1 pauses)
8 Glasses of water(Level 1) ON DAY 2(yay!) (0/1 pauses)
15 min exercise(Level 3) ON DAY 1(again) (0/3 pauses)
Count calories(Level 1) ON DAY 6 (0/1 pauses)

Lost; Thanks :D I put those margaritas down.. now if only I could do just one day of exercise! lol :carrot:

I was supposed to join the gym yesterday but I took a nap instead!
Hiya DJ

Good Morning chicks!
Day 1 complete on all counts! I only did about 10 min of stepping though. I'll forgive myself if I get through the WHOLE video today. Ha. ('cause I've never done the whole video)
I had a stomach ache last night, probably because I didn't put anything bad into it yesterday.
Rabmonk, you can do it! Once you get some forward motion you'll keep going. Keep trying!
DJ, good luck on those new challenges! I've heard that some people plateau and start losing again when they eat more, so that theory may be right. We often have to tinker with our plans. Our bodies adjust to routine.
Shad, you are cruising along! More than halfway! Keep it up!
Jolly, don't be discouraged, just keep trying. I think if you looked back into the archives and counted up, I'm STILL the queen of restarts!:queen: Plus you will notice that you HAVE been succesful in the past and you CAN DO IT!!! We'll just keep up with the:kickbutt: :frypan: :coach: :drill: and you start out simple if you need to, but get started!! Come on!!

01-23-2007, 06:57 PM
Day 14 done for water - no more pauses.
Day 13 for food and exercise - 2 pauses left on each

Today will be a pause day on food because I am entertaining tonight to use up food in the fridge before I go home for the weekend.

Getting there, gettin' there, gettin' there soon I hope

Hi everyone,
I haven't abandoned the group, but am still sick with this horrible cold and have to leave on Thursday morning for a business trip. The only good thing about this is that my sense of taste seems to have disappeared and I have no appetite. Good luck to everyone on your challenges. I'll be back in a week.

Evening all

Well I only have one challenge yet, 30 min on eliptical machine, I went to level 2 today, and did a Pilates DVD

I'll do personals tomorrow, but had to share this e-mail that I just have to share with you all.

--THE GOOD NAPKINS...ahhhhh..the joys of having girls... My mother taught me to read when I was four years old (her first mistake). One day, I was in the bathroom and noticed one of the cabinet doors was ajar. I read the box in the cabinet. I then asked my mother why she was keeping 'napkins' in the bathroom. Didn't they belong in the kitchen? Not wanting to burden me with unnecessary facts, she told me that those were for "special occasions" (her second mistake).

Now fast forward a few months....It's Thanksgiving Day, and my folks are leaving to pick up my uncle and his wife for dinner. Mom had assignments for all of us while they were gone. Mine was to set the table. When they returned, my uncle came in first and immediately burst into laughter, next came his wife who gasped, then began giggling, next came my father, who roared with laughter, then came Mom, who almost died of embarrassment when she saw each place setting on the table with a "special occasion" Kotex napkin at each plate, with the fork carefully arranged on top. I had even tucked the little tail in so they didn't hang off the edge!! My mother asked me why I used these and, of course, my response sent the other adults into further fits of laughter.

"But, Mom, you said they were for special occasions!!!" Isn't it easier to just tell the truth?????????

Well, I've got these two challenges left and am still moving along. Had to take a pause on the crunches yesterday as I got in WAY too late and, I'm embarrassed to say, was in no state to crunch. Ah....alcohol challenge was over... ;)

I may be starting up some new challenges or doing another round of others. Stay tuned! :) By the way, I can definitely see how the lack of alcohol must be affecting my body. I do NOT have such a tire around my waist (area). Either it's just the lower number of calories I'm getting due to cutting out the booze, or the way the calories are absorbed and turned immediately into FAT! :barf: must be different. Probably the any case, yowzah! :spin:

Crunch challenge -- Day 10 completed/1 pause of 3 left
No sugar -- Day 8 completed/1 pause of 3 left

Lost -- That is too funny!! :lol3: So, was this you as a little girl or someone you know? I can just imagine how horrified your(?) mother must have been!! Great going on your challenges! :cp:

Ashley -- So sorry to hear you're still sick. :( Please get well soon! :sunny:

Shad -- Yes, you ARE gettin' there! Keep it up! And congrats on another day notched! :bravo: And thanks for the congrats!

Apple -- Good to hear from you, Her Royal Queen of Restarts, and excellent work on a successful liftoff! :flow1: Hope your stomach is better.

Rab -- Yes, keep those margaritas out of your hands!!! And what's this?!? Napping instead of going to the gym? :coach: To the rack with you! We'll have none of this insubordination!!!

dj -- That's great news about the 1800 working for you! :cb: Grand! Slow and steady is THE way to go! Keep it rollin' girl! :dizzy:

jolly -- Here's a big boost back onto the wagon! Remember, it feels good up there all that soft hay to roll around'll love it. Sumo-sized portions! You're too funny. But, heh, sumo is my territory! Out of there with you! :sumo: I think the half marathon is a great idea. You can do it! Think of yourself in a loving way. You're OK!

London -- I'm so sorry to hear about your husband! Gosh, I hope things work out and that this was all a misunderstanding and that he has not done anything and that he will be released without incident. My gosh, you must be devastated and so scared. If I can help by listening, if it helps you to talk about this, please PM me. Your family is in my prayers. I hope that perhaps your challenges can give you some needed structure to these days of chaos. Please keep in touch with us. By the way, I see I read your challenge wrong and thought you had no pauses left on sugar. It's the other way around, you haven't taken any! Best of luck, London! :goodluck:

Ok, gals, while we're having a bit of's a joke I thought you could appreciate. Please, don't anyone take offense at any of the ethnic stereotypes. It's just in fun.....

Scholars have long debated the exact ethnicity and nationality of Jesus. Recently, at a theological meeting in Rome, scholars had a heated debate on this subject. One by one, they offered their evidence.............

1. His first name was Jesus
2. He was bilingual
3. He was always being harassed by the authorities.

But then there were equally good arguments that JESUS WAS BLACK:

1. He called everybody "brother"
2. He liked Gospel
3. He couldn't get a fair trial.

But then there were equally good arguments that JESUS WAS JEWISH:

1. He went into His Father's business
2. He lived at home until he was 33
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin, and his Mother was sure he was God.

But then there were equally good arguments that JESUS WAS ITALIAN:

1. He talked with his hands
2. He had wine with every meal
3. He used olive oil.

But then there were equally good arguments that JESUS WAS A CALIFORNIAN:

1. He never cut his hair
2. He walked around barefoot
3. He started a new religion.

But then there were equally good arguments that JESUS WAS IRISH:

1. He never got married
2. He was always telling stories
3. He loved green pastures.

But perhaps the most compelling evidence was that JESUS WAS A WOMAN!!:

1. He had to feed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was no food.
2. He kept trying to get the message across to a bunch of men who JUST DIDN'T GET IT!
3. Even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was more work for him to do.

 :^:

Hey all - thanks for the help. I do appreciate it.

Right now, I am having such a problem getting started, that I can't even think in terms of 21 days. I have to focus on today, each day. So, my goals for today are 1) get my :censored: to the gym this morning and 2) eat a controlled portion for supper. I have been eating mammoth portions then too, which leads to acid reflux, which leads to breathing problems, which leads to me not wanting to work out, etc.

Anyway, will post later to see how you all are doing, and if I made my goalsfor the day.

01-24-2007, 08:42 AM
No Alcohol(Level 1) ON DAY 16 (0/1 pauses)
8 Glasses of water(Level 1) ON DAY 3(0/1 pauses)
15 min exercise(Level 3) ON DAY 1(again) (0/3 pauses)
Count calories(Level 1) ON DAY 7 (0/1 pauses)

Red LOL thanks I needed that :kickbutt:
I REALLY am going today I swear! :wl:

01-24-2007, 09:39 AM
Day 2 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - Level 3
Day 2 - Calories under 1800 - good - level 3

Red & Lost, thanks for the laughs! I needed that!

Ok, I'm adding in a new challenge, probably the hardest challenge I've ever done and I actually started it yesterday on the sly. I'm finally quitting smoking. I didn't even tell my husband until yesterday when I told him to lock all smoking materials in his truck and to keep the key! Anyways, I've been preparing for this for about 3 weeks now. I've been taking Wellbutrin and am now using the patch too. One day at a time here, but so far, so good.

So, Day 1 - no smoking - good - MUST to ace this one, no pauses allowed!

Have a great day everyone! My 3 year old is getting louder and going to wake everyone!

DJ, Good luck with the non smoking!! I really hope you can do it! You HAVE to! I'm sure you hear this stuff all the time, but my mom smoked for 50 years and is now suffering the consequences.:( Suprisingly, her lungs are great, but she had a stroke and is now experiencing cardiac problems. She finally quit when she broke her leg and had to live in a skilled nursing facility for 6 weeks.
I have a friend whose sister quit smoking and to celebrate, he bought her a dozen white roses. I think that was sweet. I'll buy you some when you have successfully quit!!!

Jolly! You are approaching this the right way! One day at a time! As soon as you feel on top of the situation, start a challenge! We're here for you! Enough exclamation points!

Red, the south beach diet mentions the wonderous effects of beer on the waist line. It is a no no no no.:nono: It has something to do with the conversion of the sugars. I could have easily given in to a cold one last night, but I didn't!!!:D A few more days and i should be over the restart hump. Liked your joke, by the way..

Oh, Day 2 done on all 3 challenges...

Ashley, feel better and get back soon!

Evening all;

Glad you all enjoyed, I am still laughing.

Red; it wasn't me, although it could have very well been . . . my mom always said if i had been the first child she would not have had anymore . . . I was ALWAYS into something.

Jolly; hang in there. I only focus on today, then after a bit the number of days on my challengs get bigger and bigger. we can't do anything about tomorrow until it gets here nor tomorrow, it's GONE, so all we can do is FOCUS on today . . .

Rab; getting closer . . . :woohoo:

dj; hang tough on that smoking one, I need to go there . . . but need to finish moving, start new job and get exercise, eating healthy, etc on some kind of consistency . . . then . . . of course I think it will help that my friend I am moving in with doesn't smoke. That should help a LOT.

Apple; Great job on your challenges,

Shad; you're numbers are getting up there, hang in there if you go out to dinner and try to make a healthy choice.

I only have one challege left (right now)

30 min exercise - 1 hour yoga class

Everyone have a great night

01-24-2007, 10:44 PM
Hey all. Well, I made it to the gym this morning. That's a hurray. I at least got some movement in. Didn't do so well on the portions. I have to stop that train.

My goals for tomorrow are to get to the gym, and to make it back to my TOPS meeting. I pretty much fizzled out when my dog started ailing last summer. I need all the support I can get - both here and in person.

Thanks everyone, and keep up your good work

Day 3 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - Level 3
Day 3 - Calories under 1800 - good - level 3
Day 2 - No smoking - good- no pauses allowed!

Yep, hanging in there. The calorie limit right now combined with the no smoking is tough, but so far, so good. I'm hoping that by imposing that calorie limit on myself, that even if I go over, it won't be by much! I really don't want to undo all the weight loss I've managed so far.

Lost - Hope you can get there too with the smoking thing! It's definitely a journey of it's own! I just think that you have to be mentally ready for it and I've reached that point. If you do end up thinking seriously about it, let me know. I've found some helpful resources out there.

Apple - Thanks for the good wishes. Yes, I do hear that stuff all the time, problem is, that as a smoker, you have to find your own reasons for quitting. Just like losing weight. Luckily, I think I have finally crossed that line into never wanting to smoke again, but I do realize that undoing 25 years of a bad habit will take some time and effort. I just keep telling myself that smoking is NOT an option, so I need to find another way to cope!

Good going Rab, Jolly & Shad! You are doing great!

Hi to everyone else out there. Have a great day!

01-25-2007, 10:02 AM
No time to talk. Just in. Just did the crunches. Gotta get to sleep. Turned down some German stollen today. Am putting it away for a sugar day. No good for my last pause with more than half to go in my challenge still. :nono: I also made the veg juice. I really WANT to make it now. May turn it into a rerun soon. No alcohol as well. Let's see how the stealth goes...

Well, Day 3 is done. Boy, it's nice to be on the same day for all of the challenges. Make's it a little easier. :D
Busy day ahead, hopefully I avoid stupid choices. Last Thursday I really succumbed to stress and ate a lot of sugar.

DJ, I know what you mean. My problem with beer is similar. I often drink it to cope. When I have had a stressful day or my kids are driving me bonkers, nothing says "Ahhhh.. " like a cold one. Keep it up!

Red, I googled "south beach diet beer" and most of the articles were about breweries protesting this claim. (Of course!) I found another article, not brewery related, that pointed out a lot of inconsistencies and mis-truths about the diet. I suppose that exisists for ALL marketed diets. I think the reason I lost so much on it was because my calorie intake was only around 1000 cals for 2 weeks. And thats not especially healthy either. (Although I did keep most of it off) It just comes down to eat less, exercise more.
I have to go, my son is insisting I build something with him....BYE

Hey all. Just quick check in. I did make it to the gym this evening. I didn't go this morning, as i was too busy overeating leftovers. I did go sweat tonight. I also did make it to my TOPS meeting. So, I need to fake it until I make it.

My goals for tomorrow are to work out, and to follow my eating plan.

Have a good night all

Day 17 done for water - no more pauses.
Day 15 for food 1 pause left. It could be a close one since I am going home for 3 days tonight and someone will always want to go out to dinner.
Day 14 for exercise - 0 pauses left.
Bummed out on the exercise yesterday - not that I lay around too much but it wasn't committed exercise if you know what I mean. Today if I can't get to the gym I'll be out throwing things around in the garden and it may be a good idea to try trimming the top of the hedge before it gets out of control as well. Lots of weeds to pull since they grow and flower at the sniff of rain. Why don't the orchids do the same?
Anyway, gotta run, gotta try and catch this doc sometime today, or it will be a case of tying to get information out of uncommunicative medical receptionists. See ya

01-27-2007, 12:28 AM
Evening all;

30 min exercise - done, (one more to go)

Exhausted from moving so many things to new house today, UGH. I hate moving.

01-27-2007, 06:50 AM
Well, gotta beg out again on the individual posts...I'm beat, but still kicking on the remaining challenges.

Crunch challenge -- Day 13 completed/1 pause of 3 left
No sugar -- Day 11 completed/1 pause of 3 left

London, how are you doing? I sure hope things are working out for you and your family. Heh to Lost (one more day!! :spin: ), jolly, Shad, sweet, Apple, dj, Rab!!

Day 5 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - Level 3
Day 5 - Calories under 1800 - pause - 2 pauses left
Day 4 - No smoking - good- no pauses allowed!

Yep, had a little slip on the calories. I think the no smoking got to me yesterday. I only went over by about 75 calories, but that's enough! Anyway, I also seem to have put on some water weight! It has to be water since I couldn't possibly have gained 2 1/2 pounds in 3 days! Especially since I have been good about watching and logging those calories! Oh well, whatever happens, happens. At least I'm not smoking and have no desire whatsoever to got back, no matter how tough those cravings are!

Have a great weekend everyone!

01-27-2007, 04:11 PM
Day 18 done for water - no more pauses.
Day 16 for food 1 pause left.
Day 14 for exercise - Gonna cancel this one since I am having a bit of a problem here with this one. I'll start it again tomorrow.

01-27-2007, 04:31 PM
No Alcohol(Level 1) ON DAY 19 (0/1 pauses)
8 Glasses of water(Level 1) ON DAY 6(0/1 pauses)

Hi hello, just waving hi to everyone here :) :grouphug:

I'm busy and all over the place with everything in my life right now, but I am starting to see some favourable prospects for re-joing the 21 day challenge. Keep your fingers crossed so that I can make it all work!

Cheers to everyone! :)

Day 19 done for water - no more pauses.
Day 17 for food 1 pause left.
Day 1 for exercise - Restarted 28th January

Gee it seems to have gone fast this challenge - well all except the exercise one anyway and that is back on track as from yesterday.

Back at work in Townsville. Life may just settle down enough to complete the challenges, although too many barbecues are lined up at the moment. Life could get interesting next weekend. Or maybe I'll just not start the new challenge until after next weekend.

Gotaa run.

01-29-2007, 12:39 PM
Day 6 & 7 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - Level 3
Day 5 & 6 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed!

Wow, quiet in here! Guess I'm not the only one that's been busy.

Ok, I am starting over on the calorie count. I did ok the first couple of days that I quit smoking, but the next couple were a little rough. Rather than stress about it, I decided not to log anything. Today I'm back to it.

So... Calories under 1800 - level 3 - starting today.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

I think I have completed day 7 for exercise and day 6 for no beer. (1 pause left and I'm saving it for the Super Bowl) I just got back from a week-end of skiing, so I still need to log in all my food, I hope to find time to do that later today. I went skiing for the first time in 20 years! It's just like riding a bicycle, you pick it up again right away. I thought I would be really sore, but I guess all my work in the gym has made a difference! That is really encouraging. Except my calves. There are no machines at the gym that really work the calves. They were really sore this morning, although they feel better now. My 2 older kids went for the first time. They had a great time. I wish skiing wasn't such an expensive sport. That's why I haven't been for 20 years. Too expensive!
I have a busy day ahead, I need to get going. Hello to everyone! Glad to hear you are still NOT smoking, DJ!

01-29-2007, 07:22 PM
Hi everyone

I'm back with my new goals
Starting today (29 Jan) I will be alcohol free (level 3) and on calorie restriction (level 3)

Be back later today to report

01-29-2007, 07:31 PM
Day 20 done for water - no more pauses.
Day 18 for food 1 pause left.
Day 2 for exercise - Restarted 28th January

Hi everyone - good to see so many getting on with their challenges and succeeding. It's had to believe that my water challenge is just about finished. Think I may just start it over again, but we will see.
Still enjoying the new food regime. It certainly helps to know exactly what is for dinner and lunch everyday.

Better go and strike a blow for Coal and Ore receipting. Life goes on.

01-29-2007, 09:20 PM
Hello all! Heh, the madness really doesn't stop.. just letting y'all know I'm keeping on keeping on. :dancer: And last night, I had a major save on the sugar! I was really about to just can the challenge, but then thought, heck no!! :strong:

Crunch challenge -- Day 15 completed/1 pause of 3 left
No sugar -- Day 12 completed/0 pauses of 3 left

01-30-2007, 05:44 AM
Day 1 completed alcohol free 3 pauses remain
Day 1 completed calorie restriction 3 pauses remain

01-30-2007, 08:25 AM
Allright, I'm giving myself another day on both challenges. Thumbs up!

Crunch challenge -- Day 16 completed/1 pause of 3 left
No sugar -- Day 13 completed/0 pauses of 3 left

sweet -- Congrats on a successful liftoff! :bravo:

Shad -- Did you do it? Get through on water? And food, just a few more days. Too bad about that exercise challenge, but, oh well, nothing really lost, right?! :)

Apple -- You're doing great on the challenges, especially the big toughie, no beer! Who needs the stuff anyhow, right?! ;) On calves, you don't need a machine, just do one-legged toe raises. If you do it on the side of a box or some sort of platform it's even tougher, hold a weight and make it tougher! I used to have a guy (heh, heh!) sit on my back and I would lean over a bench while standing on a box and rise up on my toes. Now that really got those calves burning! Glad the skiing was fun. Yeah, must be expensive. Is here too. You need to live at a resort or be prepared to hike up hills I guess if you lived in the mountains. Anyhow, glad you could go.

dj -- That is just awesome that you have given up smoking! :dizzy: I did years ago and it wasn't easy. Finally, however, after my tries, I finally did it, cold turkey at last and never went back. Sometimes I miss it but then I think of how unhealthy I felt and I'd be an idiot to go back. There's a great book you should read by Allen Carr about stopping smoking. It's the best!,%20MGASPARD,%20MGASPARD,%20MGASPAR D Good luck on that calorie count. Good for you for getting back on track! :goodluck:

Rab -- How are you doing? Quiet out there...hope you're still powering on. :spin:

Lost -- How 'bout you kiddo? Still going on that exercise?! :dancer:

Hi there Sushi! Others!! How are you doing? :sunny:

01-30-2007, 09:45 AM
Day 8 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - Level 3
Day 7 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed!

Well, managed those 2 challenges, however, the calorie one I didn't start. Wasn't feeling too well yesterday, but think I feel a little better today so I'll try to get logging my food.

Red - Good job on those challenges despite the crazy schedule! That book you gave me the link to I have read. I got the e-book version and I really think it made a huge difference for me! I tried to quit before and thought I'd go crazy. This time, it's been much easier.

Sweet & Shad - Good job on those challenges! Keep it going!

Apple - Great job on the beer and exericise! Keep it up!
That weekend of skiing sounds like fun! I used to ski but really can't afford it any more. I used to work at ski resorts and that was the only reason I could ever afford it! Maybe someday. My kids would love to learn how, but I keep telling them they need to get a job first!

Have a great day everyone!

Boy, I wish I had been able to read all your encouraging posts before giving into temptation! Bad news, took another pause on the beer and also on exercise. So I'm still on day 6 for the no beer, (with the super bowl looming ahead and no pauses left) and day 7 on exercise(1 pause left). I also did my best to log all my food from over the week-end, but Friday was too far back to remember so that's a pause and so that's day 7 too( 2 pauses left).
I'm worried about getting exercise in today, it will probably have to be after the kids go to bed and THAT is truely challenging.;)

Red, good job with the sugar save, and thanks for the calf exercises.
DJ, I'm so proud of you!:cp: A whole week of no smoking!!!
Shad, almost done! I'm beginning to think I need a water challenge too.

Sweetpea, Great Start!!

Day 21 done for water - no more pauses.
Day 19 for food 1 pause left.
Day 3 for exercise - Restarted 28th January

Yippee one down 2 to go.

Red - great going on avoiding the sugar binge. Yukky stuff. Never touch it myself. The only sugars I get are the natural fruit ones and I admit I can eat too much of those as well.

Taking a couple of days off and then I will restart the food and water again. Might as well keep up the momentum and especially since I am down another 1/2 kilo for the week (I should say 1lb I guess).

Day 9 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - pause - 2 pauses left
Day 8 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed!

Well, didn't start the calorie counting again, still sick here. I actually ended up feeling worse yesterday, hence the pause on the vegies. I probably only ate about 200 calories all day!

Anyway, we'll see how today goes. I do feel better, but still ended up taking the day off work. Hopefully I'll be back up and running by tomorrow!

:woo: Shad! Great job!

Hi everyone,
I'm back from my business trip. The cold I had turned into a nasty sinus infection. Flying is no fun when you have a sinus infection!

Managed to maintain weight while I was gone, which is probably the first for me. Usually gain 2-3 pounds while I'm gone.

I'm starting out with puny goals until I get done being sick. Will write more when I'm feeling better.

Calories < 2000
Food log every day

Rab, I'm sorry about your dog. I had to put my 17-year-old dog down about a year ago, and it was tough. Remember the fun times you had together!

01-31-2007, 11:26 PM
Sorry about the dog Rab. But you did the right thing. Some **** folk would let her suffer.
Memories are great things and photos too, to comfort you at this time.

Day 9 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - pause - 1 pause left
Day 9 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed!

Well another pause on the fruits/vegies. Still was too sick yesterday to eat or to count calories. However, I'm feeling much better today, so I'll get these challenges going again today.

Ashley - Glad to see you back, but sorry about that sinus infection. That would be horrible when you have to fly! Congrats on maintaining though, that's great!

Rab - So sorry about your dog, but it sounds like you did the right thing.

Have a great day everyone!

Challenge 1 - daily exercise
Challenge 2 - no unauthorized sweets.

Day 10 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed!
Day 1 - Calories under 1800 - good - level 3

I'm feeling much better and got back to it yesterday. Today I've got to start exercising again. I hate it when I have to take a break like that. I could have exercised yesterday, but I was rather behind with household stuff from being sick for 2 days.

Thanks Red! Wow, you're getting so close on your challenges!

Shad - :woo: way to go!

Jolly- Glad to see you back!

Have a great day everyone.

02-02-2007, 11:31 PM
Hello again. REd, way to go on your challenges. You rock. DJ - glad you are feeling better.

I had a good day. Both challenges met. I even feel good that I had planned a comfort food supper tonight, and only ate half (which is still PLENTY more than enough) and saved the rest. This is a much better choice than i have been making lately.

Both of my challenges are level 2.

Have a great night all

Crunch challenge -- Day 20 completed/1 pause of 3 left
No sugar -- Day 17 completed/0 pauses of 3 left

Heh all. So down today...really, really want to eat sugar, really want to pig trying not to...four more days... :stress:

dj -- Glad to hear you're feeling better. Thanks for the encouragement. You are just so awesome with the no smoking. People get pretty sick when they quit smoking. The body is getting rid of so much garbage. I did too and it ticked me right well, but it's the price you gotta pay. Stick with it! You need to do this for YOU! :dancer:

rab -- Good for you! :congrat: Congrats on reaching that goal! Why don't you post it over in the minigoal forum. I often go there for inspiration.

jolly -- Yes, it's good to see you back and I'm so happy you had a good day at last. You so deserve it! Keep tryin' kid!

Ashley -- Sorry to hear you were/are sick too. Get better soon! Those don't sound like minigoals to me! ;) I'd be hard put to do 'em. Best of luck! :goodluck:

Apple, Shad, sweet pea, Lost, Sushi, London, how are you? :listen:

02-03-2007, 09:50 AM
OK - this is not working. I've been on steroids for for five days, and have gained three pounds. All I do is eat! Haven't met even the small goals. I think I do better when I have a more rigid structure, so I'm going to reset my goals.

Calories - <1500
Vege/fruit - at least 5 servings per day
Food log every day
Exercise - 30 minutes per day

02-03-2007, 11:26 AM
Hey all. Just a quick post to say good morning, as I pause in cleaning. The weather is taking a turn for the cooler, much cooler, so I am trying to keep outside stuff to a minimum, and get it done quickly. I am off to the gym in a bit though, after a chiropracter appointment.

Have a wonderful day all. Keep up the great work you are all doing. Here's to day 2 for me :D

02-03-2007, 12:03 PM
Day 11 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - 1 pause left
Day 11 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed!
Day 2 - Calories under 1800 - good - level 3

All challenges met for yesterday. Now, the dreaded weekend! The only real hard one will be the calories since on weekends I actually cook real meals and of course, my husband HAS to have his Sunday breakfast. Just have to think Portion Control!

Jolly - Good job on making those good choices! Keep on going!

Ashley - Good luck with your new challenges! I don't know much about steroids, but I have heard they can cause weight gain. Isn't it just a temporary gain? Like water weight? Just curious.

Red - Come on now, you're soooooo close on that sugar challenge! You can do this!
Thanks for the encouragement on the smokes. I've heard of people getting sick when quitting, but not sure if that was what I had or just the stomach flu. Whatever it was, I'm glad it's over!

Rab - Congratulations! Wow, 13 days early AND learning to like exercise! That's so great! :woo:

Have a great weekend everyone!

02-03-2007, 09:35 PM
Day 5 & 6 for exercise done - only 2 pauses left.

It's raining here (again - gotta love the tropics in the rainy season). So I either have to go to the gym or do it at home. Bought myself a yoga mat yesterday so there is now no excuse that the tailbone can't work on a hard tile floor. Since we are at work today (Sunday) there is no chance of the gym (12pm to 6pm) so it's a home workout before dinner. :yikes:

Better run. Trying to keep up with all of this and work too, but this is becoming a distant second. Still I am keeping up with my challenges and tomorrow will be starting a new series of food and water challenges as before.

Water - 1600ml per day (two pauses)
Food - As per food sheet (CSIRO) (3 pauses)
And I'll continue the exercise one.

Catch you all later.

02-04-2007, 01:41 AM
Well it's Sunday afternoon here and I haven't done the crunches yet, I will and that'll wrap that challenge up. It's the sugar that is just awful. I sure wish I hadn't taken all those pauses so early and even then, I didn't have my usual pigout pause, but just a bit of sugar, so I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself and craving comfort food. Things are rough as usual. I have rashes and think it's from the constant stress at work. I'm not in a good way, really. Still, I'm sitting here drinking some mildly gross vegetable juice. It had carrots, komatsuna (a bitter spinach-like veg), udo (some sort of root), cabbage and celery. There, I just finished a good 350 mil of it (about 13 oz). I've been keeping a juice stealth challenge going now for at least two weeks. That first round did make it a habit and it's just something I want to do for myself. I don't know how much it's helping. These things are always so hard to tell. I feel pretty energetic and my skin looks really good...for my age...and it was looking bad there for a while, not broken out, but just haggard, poor color, poor tone. Now it has color and seems to be more alive! Yeah! I figure since I've been drinking juice for over 5 weeks straight now it should show up. Sigh. Still, with everything as mad as it is at work, I feel pretty down. Oh well, just gotta keep plugging away and think how awful!! I would be if I caved it.

dj -- Thanks a lot for your words of encouragement. They really, really helped. I so need some kindness in my life these days. The quitting smoking illnesses come up in any number of ways. Stomach flu could easily be one. I got a very nasty cold when I quit, bronchitis-like symptoms and coughing. Some people get it going off sugar. But, yeah, smoking is horrid stuff. You don't realize till you quit how much it was affecting you, but that's after about a month I think, after the physical symptoms go. I liked to think of my teeth getting whiter and they did! and not getting those ugly lines around your mouth. I think it was the vanity that finally did it for me, though also because I didn't like being controlled by the cigs. Sometimes, the pride comes in handy! ;) Good luck over the weekend! :cheer:

Shad -- Good for you for sticking to your challenges despite all the work and I hope you get some use out of that, if I could only make room to put mine down....but yeah, keep it up. I'm so glad to have this site. The challenges really keep me in line.

jolly -- You can do it!! :dancer:

Ashley -- Hang in there. The weight must just be bloat. There is NO way you can GAIN three pounds of fat in five days. Don't let it scare you. I understand the need to have a more rigid structure. I'm that way myself. Best of luck!

No sugar -- Day 18 completed/0 pauses of 3 left

02-04-2007, 10:58 AM
Day 12 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - 1 pause left
Day 12 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed!
Day 3 - Calories under 1800 - good - level 3

Another day down. I should be ok today. Superbowl would sometimes be a worry, but I really can't stay up and watch it since I get up so early. That should be a help! I'll leave the husband and kids up to eat and watch the game, they can have it.

Red - :woo: You got the crunches and you are oh, so close on the sugar. Awesome job! I'm so glad you held on to it. I know your life is crazy, but doing good things for yourself makes you feel better, even if sometimes it is tough. Keep it up!

Shad - Glad to hear you're holding on, even if you are busy. Keep going!

 to everyone out there!

02-04-2007, 01:41 PM
Hi all. DAy 2 (yesterday) both challenges met. Red, I am going to need to dig up some of your determination to do one of my videos tonight. I meant to go this morning, but a combination of the horrendous cold, heavy breakfast (I didn't feel like cooking, so I warmed up the leftovers I was going to have for supper for breakfast, and figured I could make an omelet for supper) and an antihistamine for the sniffles left me dozing on the couch. :fr:

Ah well, should have plenty of time this evening.

So, now I need to just let out a little scream. My stepsister and I are meeting my mom to go see "Because I Said So," a new Diane Keaton movie. Mom just calls me to ask me if my car starts, and what I am going to do if it doesn't. I know she loves me, and is just concerned about me, but really! I am not 3:tantrum:  :tantrum: And then she sounds all hurt when I am short with her - she's very good at that. I just have to remind myself that it is coming from love, and be patient with her. And not call to ask to borrow their extra car if mine doesn't start:o

I will try and get on to post later. Have a wonderful day all. Keep up the great work, and Red :cb: :cb: :bravo: :cb: :cb: Way to go on completing your crunches. YOu are an inspiration.

02-04-2007, 08:14 PM
The new challenges are a big improvement. I think I need the structure to keep myself in check. I just need to recognize that I have no self-control and plan accordingly. The 21-day challenge is great for me, because it imposes the structure I need so badly. This is such a great thread!

Calories <1500, 2 days done
Food log, 2 days done
5 vege/fruit, 2 days done

DJ - I don't know whether the weight-gain is water weight or not, but I was eating non-stop so I know that was contributing to the cause. It makes me so jittery and hungry! I'll be glad to finish the prescription over the next week. Looks like you're having a good weekend. Just step away from the Super Bowl food!

Red - a stealth challenge. I like the sound of that - sounds like you're really up to something sneaky. I'm sorry things are still so stressful for you at work. I hope it starts to improve for you soon.

Jolly - how was the movie? I've been seeing that one advertised, but you're the first person I've heard to actually see it. I wonder how old we have to be before the mother/daughter relationship issues are settled. I just talked to my mother and then said "That chore is done." when I hung up. Wish I could speak with her and actually enjoy it. At least my relationship with my daughter is great.

Shad - I bought a mat a few months ago with the best of intentions, but my mat stays rolled up in the corner, gathering dust. I'm impressed with anyone who actually uses their mat. Good for you!

Rab - you've really done well! Hope you had a good weekend.

02-04-2007, 10:28 PM
Yesterdays tomorrow is actually going to turn into today's tomorrow and I won't be starting the challenge today. With all the things that have gone wrong this morning, it is just not worth the risk.

Here's a true life laugh to cheer you up.

Went to the gym this morning. Checked off the inventory as I went - right bra, right outer gear, trainers, purse, gym card, keys yep got em all. Shut the door, went down to the car and off to gym. Get on the bike, rack up 6k and 120cals, elliptical, 3 km and another 130 cals. Treadmill - 12 mins oops out of time gotta go home 50 cals and 1km. Get in the car - where are my specs - in the gym of course. Back you go and get 'em. Get in the car, drive home sweating like crazy - the temps around 26C and humidity around the 80% mark. Get into the garage and unload my bags, grab the keys, lock the car. Keys feel a bit strange - oh poop, I have the set of Brisbane keys and not the Townsville keys - now what. No phone, no pen, no paper so I get one of the other residents to write the caretakers number down and I go to find a payphone. Well I end up walking into the CBD to get one of those. It's raining AGAIN so now I am hot, sweaty and wet. Walk back to the apartment, the caretaker has no master keys or spare keys. Need to go to the letting office to get those. Damn. They don't open until 8.30am and it is now 7.30am. Find a coffee bar open - at least I have money. Get a coffee and a roll. Think nasty thoughts. Then I figure I can at least go to work and tell my boss what has happened and that will kill a bit of time. So hot, wet and sweaty I go to work only to get remarks like - we are looking sporty today aren't we! Anyway, eventually I get a spare set of keys, go home get showered and changed and come to work - remembering the keys this time!!!

Consequently I haven't had a decent breakfast, I haven't got lunch (will have to go buy some) and nothing I've had today is on plan.

Tomorrow can only get better.
