Hello all you beautiful walkers! This is the thread for people who use Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds! Feel free to stop by and report your walks and progress toward your goals! Or if you just want to ask a question, we're here for you!
I haven't used any of these dvd's before, but I got a gift card and plan to buy at least one for a Christmas present for myself! I've heard nothing but good things about this program!
I do have a few questions though that maybe you culd answer!
1) How long have you been on the program?
2) What dvd is your favorite?
3) What kind of eating program do you follow?
4) How much weight have you lost since starting WATP??
Thanks in advance everyone!!!!!!

Thanks for starting 2007 out for us Michelle!
Amanda, I'm sure you'll get lots of other responses, but I'll start out.
1. I've been doing WATP for about 13 months. I started around Thanksgiving of 2005.
2. My current favorite is the 5 mile DVD, although I wouldn't say to start with that one. I started with the Get up and get started 1 mile/ High Calorie Burn 2 mile DVD. I got it at Wal-mart and it had both the one mile and the 2 mile on it.
3. My eating plan currently is calorie counting, with no added sugar, HFCS, white rice, potatoes, or white flour. Very little processed foods.
4. I've lost 131 lbs since September 2005.
I love WATP because I've been able to do it from the first day. As I've become fitter, I've been able to move right along to other WATP tapes.
Please feel free to checkin with us here if you do start. The more, the merrier. :)

Today I did 2 miles using 2 lbs weights. I did the muscle mile one twice.
Here are my answers to the questions:
1) How long have you been on the program?
I started WATP last January, the 3rd to be exact :)
2) What dvd is your favorite?
I like all of the videos. I agree that I really like the 5 mile DVD now, but I wouldn't suggest starting with that one either since the workouts just start right off the bat rather than with a warm up like all of her other videos. The Express series is really good, I have the 1, 2, 3 & 4 mile express. The Walk Diet that Walmart usually has is the one I started with. I don't use it anymore and gave it to my mom because it only had a 1 & 2 mile but it was the perfect place for me to start.
3) What kind of eating program do you follow?
I am not following any specific program. Just trying to watch my eating. I'm reading Leslie's 2nd book right now and hope to impliment some of her strategies. I find I cannot count calories or follow a plan like WW. That's a good as setting me up for failure.
4) How much weight have you lost since starting WATP??
I've lost nearly 40 lbs. This is wonderful for me. I have never lost any measureable amount of weight and KEPT it off for any length of time. We just went through the death of my DH's brother and even with taking a month off coping with the aftermath of all of that, I've remained w/i 3 lbs of my lowest weight so I'm ready to hit the WATP hard again for '07 :)

Thank you all for your responses! VERY helpful! I'm living in a little attic apartment and don't have the mula for a gym membership, or room for any exercise equipment...so I thought this might do the trick! Congrads to you all on your weight loss! That's wonderful! Continued sucess to you all in 2007! :)

I walked for 30 minutes this morning. Hopefully more to come later.
Lookingforhope, my local library loans the WATP DVDs. You might try borrowing from your library until you can purchase your own set.
Edited: ten more minutes on the Power Rider tonight.

Hi all. Happy New Year.
Okay, the 2006 numbers are in and I'm going to share... :)
Biking = 103 miles
Walking/Jogging = 1002.2 miles (wow-weeeee!!!)
Swimming = 17 miles
Rollerblading = 80 miles
Then there are a few other exercises to round it out. I "earned" $1235.80 for my toys (spent $1082 so I'm on my way to a new fireplace).
AND.... I lost 40.6 pounds.
I'd say 2006 was a great year. Now on to 2007 and losing and exercising more.
So, my answers to the questions...
1) How long have you been on the program? I started WATP on 1/12/06.
2) What dvd is your favorite? My favorite is the ones I've made from several (computer editing). I love the 1 mile jog combined with the "fastest" walk off the 5 miler. I agree with the other posts that those aren't the ones to start with. I got the 5 miler in March 2006 so I'd been exercising with Leslie for about 2 months.
3) What kind of eating program do you follow? I count my calories with Lifeform ( a database with most foods and exercises in it - I've used it for years and definitely see the weight records reflected yo-yoing - no longer though). I stick between 1500 to 1700 calories a day.
4) How much weight have you lost since starting WATP?? I started WATP in January and started dieting on April 25th, 2006. Since April I've lost 40 pounds.
Now, I'm off to purchase the new skis I picked out on Saturday. I'm hoping they'll ship right away so perhaps DH will take me skiing again this weekend. :) If they don't arrive in time, we'll go snowshoeing at Crater Lake again. We went yesterday and it was absolutely gorgeous out. This morning we hiked in the mountains with the doggies. Exercise certainly makes me want to exercise more.

Way to go, Marie! Those are AWESOME stats!
My magic number was 821.39 fitness miles walked in 2006! I'm aiming for at least 850 this year, though I'd LOVE to hit 1000.
To get myself started toward that goal, I did 75 minutes and 4.1 miles on the treadmill this afternoon! :tread:

I got SOOOOO lost on the December thread, so I had just gave up. Hoping I can keep up now that I've posted at the beginning of this thread :)
I have been doing WATP for a couple of weeks but I've done it 3 times in the past 4 days. I looooooooooooove it. The only part that really bugs me is on the 2 mile express brisk walk when Leslie says "She is just so full of spirit. That's what fitness does. That's what fitness does". I don't know why it bugs me but it makes me shudder, lol.
I have one question though. I don't feel terribly challenged though no matter what I do. I see some of the ladies on the tv sweating but I only sweat a tiny bit and am not struggling to breathe or anything. Can I use a step or how would I get more of a challenge? I do have the stretchie bands that I use.

This is my first experience with an online chat support room and walk away the pounds.
I would definately like some company (online) while working on my fitness/weight. How long should I stay with the first tape -- 1 mile?:?:
Today is day one.:fr:
Marie
01-02-2007, 03:54 PM
Corky, stay with the 1 mile until you can do it without wanting to fall over. Go to the 2 mile and go as far as you can go. As long as you're challenging yourself, you're going to get more fit.
babygrant, After a while I thought I wasn't getting a good workout. That was this past summer and I'd started hiking in the mountains and huffed my way up the hills. So I started doing that almost exclusively and then after about 10 days I did a 3 miles advanced workout with WATP and I huffed through that while I was no longer huffing up the hills. My conclusion was that walking outside is totally different then WATP but they're both good workouts. Now I do both on a regular basis. BTW, I never, ever sweat with WATP or walking outside. Snowshoeing in the mountains - I do sweat. I think it's a personal thing based on the individual. I wouldn't worry about it other than maybe addind a little hilly walking for variety.
I did 1 mile walking and 2 miles jogging this a.m. I also did my ab lounge workout. I'm back at work and getting up at 5:15 to exercise again was painful. :)

Hi!
Marie and Michele, you two are so inspirational!! I love how active you are! It's such a pleasure seeing all of those miles racked up!
Karen, What color did you paint your laundry room?
Babygrant, Welcome! I'm glad you've joined us. I do break a sweat, even after doing them for more than a year, I still break a little sweat. Just some suggestions, if you aren't doing these already. Make sure you're keeping pace with Leslie; kick higher during the kicks; lift your knee higher during the knee lifts; squat closer to the ground during the side steps, lift your feet higher off the ground during each step. Just a few suggestions to make things more challenging, if you aren't already doing these. I'm not sure about using the step, that would make it too challenging for me. :)
Welcome, Kristina and Corky. Corky, I used Leslie's Walk Away the Pounds book when I first started. Her book has you walking a mile a day for the first four days, then two miles on day 5. The second week you walk 2,1,2,1,3. I was so out of touch with my body, that I wasn't sure if I could tell when I would be ready to add more time, so I liked having her book to tell me when to do it.
Hi Curlygrrl and Michelle
I did the two longest miles from the 5 mile DVD and then walked another 10 minutes at lunch. 40 minutes

I did the 3 mile super fat burning walk today with 2 lb weights. I feel like I'm getting my dd's cold :( Just hoping it doesn't settle into my chest. I have asthma and that makes workouts close to impossible if I get more congested. Let's hope it's just the weather affecting me or something.
Tammy, we painted the laundry room a really pretty blue color. It's a light blue, Behr paint, it was called Morning Breeze. Our house is just a little over 6 years old. When we built it, we had the painter just use a nice taupe color throughout because it was too much $ to have them paint each room as we might have wanted it so little by little we've added color here and there :) I LOVE the laundry room now! And I thought it was pretty darn good before :) It's so bright and seems bigger and since I do so darn much laundry I might as well have a pretty laundry room LOL Our W&D are white and the countertop and flooring are a gray color and we have oak cabinets so it just all really looks great together. I'm always so paranoid about picking colors thinking they won't look like they do in my head when we're done.

Morning Everyone!!! I did 1 mile walking and 2 miles jogging before work. I'm feeling a little blah today and definitely don't want to work. Although I am working in the background. staring at a working computer is boring so I use another to surf... Today is my 1 hour off early to walk my doggie. It's raining and yucky out but her hips need the exercise so I will go. Then a long hot bubble bath would be good. :)

Hi all,
I did 10 minutes on the power rider last night, and the 2 fastest mile from the 5 mile DVD this morning - 33 minutes.
Karen, I looked up that color on the web and that's so pretty. It sounds like all of the colors would look great together. You might as well enjoy that room since you spend so much time there. :)
Michele, so your vacation's over, huh. Hope your first day back to work went well.

Babygrant, Was it any more challenging with the extra kicking and knee lifting, etc?

Unfortunately my intuition was right and I feel cruddy today. And naturally it's going straight to my chest :( But I am determined not to let it get to me. I so badly want to get back on track and start losing weight again. I'm tired of feeling the way I do about myself!! So I told myself to just get through one mile. Welcome Perdue... Gald you're joining us.
Karen, cudos to you for doing the 2 miles. I also have asthma and have continued to walk during colds. I don't jog but lower the intensity with the walks. I've found it's helped keep the asthma in control with the chest colds.
Michele, we're almost at our semester end and it's getting busy. Tis a bummer to have our vacations over, isn't it?
I did the usual 1 mile walk and 2 mile jogging this morning followed by the ab lounger. I'm so debating whether to up the miles back to 5 after being sick. But while I was doing 3 I was losing weight again and I wasn't at 5. Hmmm, for now I'm seeing how 3 does diet wise.

Welcome Rockinrobin!! I hope you enjoy the WATP videos as much as I have :) I've been doing them for one year now. I started out with a 1 mile walk just because it had been so long since I'd done any exercise and I have sooooo much weight to lose I was worried about being able to get through much more than that. I did the one mile for about a week then moved on to two miles and did that for another couple of weeks and then found a 3 mile. It's easy enough to just jump right in, but challenging enough to grow with you.
Still feeling cruddy today. Probably moreso today than yesterday, but I'm not going to let it stop me!!! I did the 3 mile super fat burning WATP with 2 lb weights. Gotta say it was tough getting through it feeling yucko, but I managed.

Morning everyone. IT's FRIDAY!!! I know it was a "short" week but I hated getting used to getting up in the mornings after 2.5 weeks off.
I did 1 mile walking, 2 miles jogging and the ab lounger this morning. After work yesterday I did the 1 mile yoga walk. I've decided for now to stay at 3 miles and do a mile or two after work. 5 miles in the morning was tiring and I don't feel like pushing that much at this point. So 4-5 miles total working out 2X a day.

Hi ladies! Wow it's been about a year since I've been on the board. Coming back post injury and pregnancy so I'm just getting back on track. Planning on starting back to WATP on monday. Not sure when I'll get back on the eliptical because my knee still isn't liking it so that'll probably wait another month or two.
Since Ciencia is only 2 months old and isn't giving my much free time I'm setting a very easy goal of 30 miles for the month.
Anyways, just wanted to jump on the thread and say hi to everyone. Hope your all doing great.

Hi jocey and ambabs. Great to see you!!!
Karen, please tell me you're using your inhaler before working out??? Chest cold and asthma = albuterol before a light workout. BTW, I forgot my inhaler before snowshoeing this afternoon and I feel it now.
So DH and I took the huskies out to the mountain to snowshoe. They're pooped and so am I. They ran through the snow like possessed sleddogs (oh, that's right they are sleddogs without the sled). :) We had a great time.
PurdueGirl, do you like Pilates? I keep trying it and Yoga and just can't get hooked. I even bought a Pilates Performer which I hated on first use and now it's in the shed. I know it would b so good for me. Any words of wisdom to truly get into it?

I actually am just really getting into Pilates...I purchased the DVD awhile back, watched it and decided it was too hard  but once I decided to really get serious I gave it a try and now Im hooked. I know its not for everyone but I love the relaxed feeling I get during and after. Ive always liked stretchy type exercises and I used to do yoga in college, so I guess its always kinda been my thing. I dont have any words of wisdom, I think Pilates is one of those kinds of workouts, either u like or u dont!:D

Hi everyone, and welcome to all you new walkers!
I didn't get online much last week as I was feeling a bit down- I had a sore throat and was pretty tired, and I knew if I didn't take some time out I'd just get much worse. So I kept my exercise pretty low key, a lot of outdoor walking and yoga. I also did a couple of 10 minute workouts from some of the '10 Minute Solutions' DVDs- one was kickboxing and the other was toning for arms with weights.
I'm feeling a bit better now, though not quite out of the woods, so I got back on track with my WATP today with the Walk and Kick.
I hope you are all doing OK :D

Michele, WAY TO GO!!!! You are just cruisin' on that weight loss. Isn't it grand to put some distance between you and the 200 pound mark. I'm dancing with you.
ambabs, just think of the extra calories burned while holding the baby. :) I did a couple WATP this past spring/summer while holding DGS. Definitely increased the intensity.
Karen, glad you're starting to feel better. Especially since you did the whole 5 miles.
PurdueGirl, thanks for the info. I think you gave me the right clue. You said you always liked the stretching type exercises. I hate them. I never do the cooldown, stretching things at the end of videos because I get bored. Oh so bored. I think that is why I like the 5 miler and the 1 mile jog - no cool downs. So perhaps I'll stop trying to force myself into it.
I walked 2 miles, jogged 1 mile and did the ab lounger before work. When the alarm went off I was in such deep slumber that it took a while to register what was going on. Usually I'm pretty much awake on my own and I was disoriented for about a half hour. So I chose a little easier exercise.
Well off to bed. I'll chat with you all tomorrow night.

Hi all,
I am new. Tammy invited me over from the introduction board (hi Tammy!). Here is my story in it's condensed version. I am 41 with 3 children (SAHM). My weight has always been an issue in my life (I went on Atkins at 9 and was a chubby kid). I have been on many diets, but sort of regulated myself and found peace in my weight in adulthood--even after having my kids.
Then, quite suddenly at 33 I discovered I was postmenopausal. That was a shock, to say the least. I mean, yes I was having a million hotflashes a day and my period was long gone, but I still did not suspect--because who thinks that? Through blood tests I found I had premature ovarian failure, and that explained why I had suddenly gained 12 pounds in just a few months after being stable for years. I still was in a healthy weight range, so I just sort of accepted it, but did try different diets along the way. It is *really* hard to lose weight postmeno (at least for me).
Then last year I developed hives--really badly. Full body hives for many, many months. I found out it was due to exposure to cold, but they also come up everyday if I don't take antihistamines. I went on Prednisone and hydroxyzine (a very strong antihistamine that really makes you sluggish) and gained 15 pounds. Suddenly I was not lounging in the 130's any more--I had this sparetire around my middle and was pushing 150. I went off the Prednisone, but darned if the weight did not come off! Can you believe that? Me either--so not fair, that evil drug!
I am not looking to go back to my 120's--I will be perfectly satisfied to be back happily in the 130's. I am not 20 years old anymore, and I need to be careful about bone loss--as I already have osteopena from estrogen loss. I don't want to be perfect, I just want to be a healthier me.
So I have decided to take it slow and steady, and eat around 1400 calories a day, and do one WATP's a day. I have never exercised regularly in my life! I have done the DVD every day this month, which is my all time record! So far I am concentrating on the 2 mile walk. I know it is sort of easy, but I work up a little sweat, and I have not been too sore or too tired to play with my kids after I do it (I can't say that about other forms of exercise!). I don't dread it--I actually kind of like it.
The only thing is that now that I have seen the same one everyday for 8 days, I am noticing funny little quirks with the walkers that I didn't before! But I will save that one for another thread.:^:
Thanks for reading!
Lisa

Hi Lisa!
Well I got in another mile this afternoon. I wish dd would take her long nap in the morning not after dh gets home. I'd love to workout for longer periods of time but hate working out when dh is home. Just don't like being watched unless it's the kids. Oh well at least I'm getting in the one mile each day. It's better than nothing. I've also been doing side steps while rocking the baby. Gee wonder how many miles I do just doing that each day?

Hello Ladies, just checking in.
Yesterday I did WATP 2 mile and the 20 min Pliates again (I love it!)....today I did WATP 1 mile express and the Pilates Fat Burning! I committed to 10 days of exercising with no rest to kick off my new habit and today I completed my 5th day!

Thanks for the welcome, guys! Today I did my two mile WATP. I often do it at 4:30, right before making dinner. One benefit is that I use to want to drink a small glass of white wine each night as I prepared dinner, and now that I have been doing my WATP's every day, I don't want it anymore. I just want a big glass of water, instead. I think it is healthier to limit my wine to just the weekends, and had been trying to do that for a while, but found it hard to give up. I would be tired and a little stressed from the day, and the wine sort of relaxed me while cooking. Now I am already relaxed after exercising, and I am thirsty too--so water is what I want. So side benefits are becoming clear!
I am thinking of buying the Walk and Jog, as that is still 30 minutes but a little more intensity. Anyone buy it and want to comment?
Thanks,
Lisa

Hi everyone!
Michelle, I’m glad you’re walking with us again.
Michele, Congrats on the pounds lost! 2.8 lbs is fantastic.
Purduegirl, Welcome. Good for you for making the 10 day commitment.
Karen, Have you recovered from your cold/asthma? If you walked five miles yesterday, you must be. :)
Marie, You are so active! Is the Ab lounger a new toy by the way?
Hi Ambabs, Welcome to you. I don’t exercise in front of DH either, but I close the door to the bedroom and forbid anyone to set foot in there while I’m exercising. If the kids come in, I make them start walking with me (which usually gets them out really quick.) I’m impressed that you manage to get in even one mile with a two month old. It’s definitely better than nothing.
CurlyGrrl, Hopefully by the time you’re reading this, you’re fully recovered. I got the Walk and Kick DVD over the weekend, but I’ve misplaced it. If I can find it, I’m trying it tomorrow morning.
Hi Lisa, I’m glad you came on over and joined us. I’ve heard others talk about how hard it is to lose weight while on Prednisone. Now that you’re off of it, counting calories, and doing WATP, I’m sure you’ll see results soon. Until 2005, I had never exercised regularly either. It surprised me to discover how good I felt afterwards.
Yesterday I did the two fast miles (23 minutes). This morning I did 20 minutes of resistance training, and then walked at lunch for 25 minutes.

Lisa, I think we were posting at the same time. I have tried the Walk and Jog, I borrowed it from Netflix. I really liked it. It was more intense with the jogging, as well as getting 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. There was one movement that I found a little awkward. It was a side swing, the equivalent of a sidestep while walking. Maybe it would get more comfortable over time. I only did it for a couple of weeks, alternating with other DVDs.
Marie
01-10-2007, 12:29 AM
On the jogging side swing, it doesn't get more comfy after time. On the one mile jog, she does it three times (I guess I do too...) and I use those as my markers of how much is left. When I do the 1 mile walk and 2 mile jog, I know there are 6 of those. I'm always happy when I'm done with the 6th set. :)
Anyways, Lisa, I have walk and jog and I didn't really get into it. I had already bought the 1 mile jog (and edited on the computer to make a 2 mile, 3 mile, and 5 mile jog) and so it was a little easier than I wanted. I have it sitting on the shelf collecting dust. My hope is that Leslie will come out with a few more mile jogs so I have more variety. And oh man, your comment about the quirks of some of the participants (and Leslie) I imitate them as I exercise. It makes me laugh and the time flies by. But there are a couple that drive me nuts and I won't do the video.
So today was 1 mile walk and 2 miles jogging. I overslept again so I was short on time. I promised myself I would do my ab lounger workout, but alas it's coming up on bedtime and I haven't (and won't) do it. Tomorrow I will roll out of bed once the alarm goes off instead of lounging and falling asleep for an addition 15 minutes.

Hi everyone! And thanks Tammy- I am beginning to feel a bit better :D I hope you enjoy your new Walk and Kick DVD.. when you find it of course!
I felt like something new today so I did two workouts from the "10 Minute Solutions" series- a 'slow carb burner' aerobics workout and a kickboxing workout.
And on the matter of the Walk and Jog I have to agree with those side swings, I never felt comfortable doing those! I ended up shelving that one as it wasn't very good for my knees, but I might give it another go when I've lost some more weight or when the weather is a bit warmer :)

Good morning! I did the fast 3 miles with weights from the 5 mile DVD plus 10 minutes on the treadmill--a total of 3.53 miles!
It's the last day of the term and I have a TON to do! Between finishing things up with these kids, calculating grades for them and getting everything ready for the new group that starts on Monday, I will be BUSY, BUSY, BUSY! Plus, we have various forms to complete and curriculum meetings all afternoon tomorrow! UUGGHH!
Have a good day!

Michele, don't you use an electronic gradebook so that it calculates for you??? Our district uses tow of them - one is good for secondary and it integrates with our SIS so that the teachers just upload and they're done (they spend grade prep day playing most of the day). The elementary gradebook is nice but doesn't integrate but the elem teachers love it.
Tammy, I just noticed your onederland wannabe by your avatar - You Are Almost There!!!!
I did 2 miles jogging, 1 mile walking and the ab lounger today. BTW Tammy I never answered the other day. The ab lounger is almost DIL's. She got it from her stepmother since it was in their shed. But it aggravates almost DIL back and since it's taking a ton of room in my livingroom, I figure someone should use it. I'm thinking a six pack. Ha, ha, ha. I'm hoping for a muscle here or there. :)

Marie, yes we have an electronic gradebook. However, I still have to grade each set of papers and enter them on the computer. PLUS go back and see if anyone deserves to be "rounded up". With the end of term tests and a bunch of make up work, I am backlogged. Then there's all the photocopying for the new term to be done.....
I was so tired this morning I didn't get up and workout, but I'll do it this afternoon/evening!
Happy Friday!

So I am a recent returner to this site. I am now using WATP as part of my exercise routine. It is great on days that I don't feel as strong. Funny I know it can be just as much of a workout as some of my other tapes. But sometimes i am glad not to have to get on the floor!!
I really like the mile tracker. It is nice knowing when your half way done! Sometimes I wish it was up all the time so I could slowly see the progress made. I actually have the VHS so sometimes i leave the display on to tell me how far I have gone!!
Have a great day!!

Hi ladies,
Marie, I am getting closer (down another lb this morning), but it just takes time, and lots of it, doesn't it. At my current one lb a week, that's over 3 months. (Note to self - Don't look at it like that, it took you years to put it on!)
Anyway, I did ten minutes on the power rider last night, and did two miles from the 5 mile DVD this morning. 22 minutes.

Hi all, just thought I'd check in. Tuesday after my workout I started feeling a bit off and just got worse as the day went on. Chills, fever, sore throat, ears hurt, congestion....I knew I had a cold, or so I thought, but this was getting awful. Wednesday morning I felt horrible and was luckily able to get into the doctor. Turns out I have a double ear infection, strep throat and a sinus infection :( Talk about not fun!!! My throat is still horrible sore and swollen and blistered and just nasty in general. Hoping the meds start to kick in quickly. The doc said that this thing is taking a while to get kicked so I'll start a 2nd round of a 3 pack antibiotic tomorrow and hope that one does the trick. I am so bummed about missing my WATP!!!

So sorry to hear how sick you are, Karen! Take care of yourself so you're not out any longer than necessary!
I had a rough day today, but in a whole other way. It's the end of the term and we had 2 hours yesterday and all morning today that was SUPPOSED to be for getting grades done for the term we just finished and also to get ready for the new students that start on Monday. Well, I spent exactly 1 hour working on any of that due to unexpected meetings all morning! THEN, the meetings we were scheduled for this afternoon took ALL afternoon for my group (some groups were done at 3)! PLUS I had ANOTHER unexpected meeting at 4 that went til almost 5!! Now I'll have to spend almost ALL WEEKEND at school just to be somewhat ready for Monday!
I didn't feel like working out this morning, so I paid for that decision by doing 20 minutes on the treadmill at 7:30 tonight! Now I'm bushed and have to get up early for a tour of our new high school tomorrow morning!
Sorry to rant! Just having a bad day.....
Take care,
Michele

Even though I'm not walking...I'm still thinking WATP!! :) I got an email from Leslie's walk club about a new walking program she's releasing and naturally I just HAD to order it! LOL It's called the Walk Slim System. Check it out on her website (lesliesanson.com) It sounds interesting I thought the price was good for all that's included. Can't wait to feel better and get the new program and get busy again!

Michele, I'm sorry about the bad day and having to work this weekend. Yuck!!!
I went skiing again yesterday and had a great time. We did 14 runs - at about 1 mile per run - I did semi deep knee bends for 14 miles (6 hours). My legs are sore and tired today.
But I still did WATP - I did 3 miles walking and then the ab lounger. Now I'm ready for a nap.

I did the Heart Healthy Walk this afternoon, plus I took a walking tour of our new high school (set to open in August)! It was over a mile, though it certainly wasn't aerobic! I'm planning on doing at least 1 more mile tonight.
I have procrastinated on doing school work and will pay for it tomorrow!
UPDATE: I did 1.06 mile in 20 minutes on the treadmill tonight!

Well, I've already been to school and done MOST of what I needed to get done. What I have left can be done at home tonight. Though, I'm not sure it will be necessary as we are supposed to get up to 6" of snow by 9am tomorrow morning! I'd love to have a snow day--I'd do a LONG workout, make a home-cooked supper and just generally work on my house!

Hope you all have a great week!

Jo, it stands for Walk Away the Pounds - a video exercise series by Leslie Sansone (just google her name and you'll get loads of hits).
I did not exercise today. Yes, you read that right. I was going to afterwork but realized it had been over 60 days since I last took a day off and so I did today. I was so exhausted from skiing yesterday and then dog training class last night I wanted to sleep in this morning. Good choice, bad choice. Good in that my legs were so tired. Bad choice in that I was foggy for hours this morning and moved on slow motion. That's when it dawned on my that I was addicted to morning exercise. So tomorrow at 5:15 I'll be at it. I guess mid March I'll take another day off. :)

Boy, you guys are all doing great!!! I had hoped to be back on board today....but my 3 year old daughter was up 3 times vomiting starting at 3 am. I can never get back to sleep once one of my kids throws up. Every little noise I hear after that first time makes me think that they are getting sick again. So I'm even more tired than I was yesterday!! I'm feeling better, still a bit congested, but I know if I can just get a decent nights sleep maybe tomorrow I can be back at working up to the 5 mile again. I'll be happy to just get a 1 mile in right now at this point!!!! Keep up the great work everyone!!

Hello everybody, I am happy to join you all. Looking forward to getting to know you all much better.
I finally got my 1,2 and 3mile express videos with the stretchie band in the mail!!! Actually got it yesterday afternoon. Did the one mile last night and it was easy and quick! So, just now I did it 2x. I guess tomorrow I will try the 2 mile walk.
Just curious, do the longer mileage videos take longer, or do they just go faster? I have another question if I may? Is this the only exercise you do? Do you feel it is enough activity? Okay that was 2 more questions. Thanks.

rockinrobin, at first it was the only exercise I did. Now because I'm actually fit (wow) I do loads of other stuff. That was my reward for sticking with it. I can now ski and snowshoe again without exhaustion. I don't know which one DVD set you got, but the 1,2,3 that I got was about a 20 minute mile, then 15 minute miles for the 2 and 3 mile ones. I went to the 5 miler and they range between 9:30 to 15 minute miles. Hope that helps.
I got up to exercise this morning - 2 miles walking, 1 mile jogging and the ab lounger. Worked all day except 1 hour, then took the doggies on a 2 mile walk.
Now I'm pooped and on my way to watch the TIVO American Idol from last night.

Hi ladies, I need a good hard kick in the butt now. My exercise has gotten really off track this week. I did do 24 minutes this morning (2 miles) and I did 12 minutes yesterday morning (1 mile), but that's all since Monday, I think.
Edited to add 13 minutes walking during lunch.
Rockinrobin, This is my "main" exercise, but I also do some weight lifting, and occasionally pop in a PUSH DVD for some variety. I want to start bicycling, something I used to enjoy a lot, and I think I'm about ready to start doing that again. I still think walking outdoors, or using the WATP will continue to be my daily exercise.

Karen, you mentioned strep throat and I specifically remember reading to never exercise with it that it can infect your heart. I don't remember how long ago you posted that but you should really call your dr. office to get the go ahead. I'm usually a proponent of light exercise while a little under the weather but that one really stuck with me. So please be careful.

I did 1 mile walking and 2 miles jogging this morning. Then I did the ab lounger and added a new twist to the exercise. I got my free weights out and did arm work. Okay I should have started that months ago, but I don't like it so I avoided it. My legs look good and my arms look like jelly fish so I'm going to add that in permanently. I've been doing the 1 mile, (got the 1, 2 & 3 ) twice a day, with the stretchie (I like that thing) adding about an extra 5 or 6 minutes each time I do it. I suppose it's time I pop in the 2 mile version. I've also been thinking about purchasing some other DVD's, like the Yoga Booty Ballet or the Dance the Inches Away. I've got to decide because I'd like to add some other DVD's to my collection. I also do sit-ups 2 times a day and leg lifts and some arm work as well.

Hi ladies,
The walk slim sounds like a good one. Karen can you tell us a little more about how it is different from the 5 mile?
Marie, As active as you already are, I bet you’ll have those arms firmed up in no time. You are such a go getter!
PurdueGirl, I used Leslie’s book in 2005, when I decided to start exercising. I was good for me to have a “program” that I could just follow to get started. I still go back and re-read parts of it from time to time.
Michele, I hope you get your package tomorrow. I’m anxious to hear other opinions of it.
Hi Robin, Thank you so much. You’re such a sweetheart. I like the stretchie too. I’m pretty happy with the amount of toning in my shoulders and upper arms, and I’m convinced that it is because of the stretchie band. I still need to get stronger, don’t get me wrong, but you can see some muscle definition thanks to that little stretchie band. There are so many great DVDs out there. I’m just so uncoordinated that I usually give up on the dance-y ones before I can learn the routine very well.
Karen, the more I read about the Walk Slim, the more I think I may want that one. I’m heading to her site to read more about it.
I did the Walk and Kick this afternoon. (33 minutes). Before that, DD and I did some of a dance DVD that she just got called Byou (20 minutes). It is a dance workout for tween girls and I am out of my league trying to keep up with those 15 year old dancers. But I want DD to enjoy being active, and since she wants to learn it, I’ve told her that I will learn it with her. She had major surgery last spring and still hasn’t got all of her strength back, so we’re just going to take it slow and add a minute or two each time we do it.
Have a great night!

The walk slim sounds like a good one. Karen can you tell us a little more about how it is different from the 5 mile?
I've only viewed the 2 mile so far, so it's the only one I can compare. I love the 5 mile, but what I like better about this is the pace is more consistent. In the 5 mile since you're switching from mile to mile the pace goes up and down to me if that makes sense. In the two mile you're doing "boosted walking" as Leslie calls it, which is just the interval walking as in the 5 mile or the walk/jog workouts where you walk fast for 3 minutes and then jog for 2 minutes and there are 3 intervals. Even though the fastest miles in the 5 mile push me for sure, I am really feeling this 2 mile. I'm not sure if it's just that it is faster, which I can feel, or if it's also partly getting back into the routine, probably a bit of both :D And I like that there is a timer that pops up from time to time showing you how much time is left in the workout. Little things like that help with my motivation some days.
From what I understand from reading the materials and listening to Leslie on the 2 mile, the 3 mile is a really fast paced walk but there is not jogging/boosted walking, it's just a face paced walk. The 4 mile goes back to the interval training. It's the one that she challenges you to use for 10 days and you'll see a difference in your body. So I'm looking forward to getting into that one!! :)

Thanks Karen! That helps a lot. I always like getting a new DVD.
Edited to add 25 minutes with the stability ball and resistance tubes. I now have a big red mark across my boobs from where the resistance tube came off of the door knob and popped me in the chest. OUCH :yikes: I wouldn't recommend doing that just in case anyone is considering it. ;) (BTW, I was using the piece that was in the restistance tube kit for the doorknob, maybe I was using it incorrectly though.) Hindsight being 20/20 and all.

Did the Walk Slim 3 fast miles today. I like that one!! It is a constant fast pace, but she also brings back some of her "old" moves that I haven't seen in her newer videos LOL The mambo, the tap out that she turns into a lunge (YEOWZA!), the 4 knee lifts.... Really good workout!
Tammy, OUCH is right!!! Hope you're ok. While I love stretchies and resistance bands because they are such a good workout, those things can be dangerous!

Edited to add - walked 27 minutes at lunch time (about 1.5 miles)

Morning all, Okay Karen, I think you've sold me on the new workout. :) And here I was trying to be strong. Perhaps Leslie would send the package to me if I nicely send her my credit card number. :) A little change might be fun.
Tammy, my physcial therapist taught me how to make them "safer". She had me tie a knot at the end. Close a door on the stretchie near the knot and then it can't come off a door knob. She also had me on the non-opening side of the door so that it couldn't accidently open. Hope the redness goes away quickly!

I can't officially start posting here with you girls yet, but I did order my first WATP set from Amazon today. I got the Super Fat Burning + Get up and Get Started High Calorie Burn set, because it was cheap enough and I wanted to give something else a try. It's supposed to be here Thursday, and I can't wait!
I just have one quick question that I'm hoping someone can answer for me; About how much space do you need for working out with it? My space is fairly limited, and I want to make sure I can accommodate adequately.

Welcome! I hope you love them as much as I do. I use about a 4 ft. x 6 ft. area in my bedroom to walk in.

Thanks Tammy, I should be able to accommodate that. I was using the Dance Away the Inches DVDs for a few days, but as the dances got more complex, I ran out of room and ended up breaking a toe on something. So no more of that for me!
I can't wait till they get here so I can try 'em out!

Good morning, walkers! I got my Walk Slim yesterday, but had to patiently (NOT!) wait til this morning because I had a meeting until 8:30 last night.
So, it was EASY to get myself out of bed this morning, knowing I would have a new workout to do! I chose the 3 fast miles and all I can say is WOW!!! I can't wait til I can do another one!
Have a great day!

:( Hi Ladies,
Sorry I've been MIA again for awhile, but I've had some things going on with bringing me down lately, but I've still been getting a few WATP workouts in, just not every day like I wish. You probably notice my username has been changed again, because of a scare I've had from another site I belong to. I've been being harrassed by a lady on another site, and she only knows me by my former username, so using my own name here is fine. I don't think she even belongs here, but wanted to be on the safe side of things. She had me so upset and worked up yesterday, that I think my stress level caught up with me, but I had a horrible dizzy spell, I was all clammy, sick to my stomach and I couldn't quit shivering for a good two hours. I took two extra strength tylenols and laid down for awhile, and I did feel better, but I'm still not back to myself completely today, still fighting a headache. It's amazing how you can have someone you are very close to on a site, and they write you a PM asking you if you're okay and how you're doing, and I gave her my honest opinion why I didn't feel comfortable posting on her team anymore, and that was it, from there on out, she's had it out for me. Oh well, I'm going on and refuse to let her affect me like she did yesterday.:(
Tammy...You are going to melt away girlie!!;) You just keep inspiring me every time I see your weight keep dropping.:D

Hi ladies, I'm trying to play catch up on my posting today. Yesterday I walked for 32 minutes, then I did a stability ball DVD for 15 minutes. It was great and I want to do some more tonight. It was a Denise Austen one, who I don't usually like, she normally grates on my nerves.
So far today I've walked for 55 minutes and did 10 minutes of UB weight lifting.
Michelle, No chance I'll melt away yet. It seems like my weight loss is really dragging. I'm glad you've been getting in some of your WATP days. That's too bad about your other forum!
Take care all.

Wow Michelle, that is quite the story. How unfortunate for you to have to go through that. I hope your feeling back to yourself 100% very, very soon.
Tammy, Denise Austen usually grates on my nerves as well. She's a bit too perky for me and she has a squeaky voice and she has too many teeth and they're very white. Okay, I'll stop picking on the lady. She certainly is fit though.
I just got through with my second 26 minute walk with the stretchie band. I like breaking it up into 2 sessions. One early in the day and one late in the afternoon or evening. I hope to keep on increasing the minutes. I like the stretchie band so much, I was using it last night as I was watching TV.

Okay, for the new Walk Slim users - how long (minute wise) is the 4 miler? I just don't know about ordering it. Do you feel you're getting a WAY better workout then the older ones? And if so, what's the change to make that difference?
Michelle, wow! I've been burned by email buddies in the past too. Our cyber world has the unknown factor that does bite you occasionally. Gravitate from that forum or site. Only go where you're comfy.
This morning I overslept and still did 3 miles jogging. I decided to do 2 but while doing it I didn't want to quit. Totally flew through getting ready for work. But I did enjoy the 25 minutes extra sleep - probably because I went to be 30 minutes late.
Well, off for my last snack of the day.

I was a little rushed for time so I only did the 2 mile fast walk from Walk Slim because I wanted to make sure to get the firming workout in, so they are both done :)
Marie, yes I do think that the WS workouts push me more. It's the pace and the interval walking in the 2 and 4 miles that really push it over the top. But then in the 3 mile it's the pace and the different moves. My hips and thighs are really letting me know I'm doing these workouts!! I got that mild soreness right at the beginning when I started WATP this time last year and then again when I restarted in December, but this is different. It's hard to explain but I can just feel my hips and thighs working more in some of the moves.
Here's a breakdown from the back of the DVD cases:
Fast start 1 & 2 mile, running time approx 35 mins
5 min warm up walk
5 min fast walking
15 min interval walking
5 min fast walking
5 min cool down and stretch
3 Fast miles, running time approx 45 mins
5 min warm up walk
35 min fast walking
5 min cool down and stretch
4 Fast miles; running time approx 50 mins
5 min warm up walk
5 min fast walking
25 min interval walking
10 min fast walking
5 min cool down and stretch
Fast firming; running time approx 40 mins
3 min warm up walk (I usually do the fast firming right after a walk so I skip the warm up walk since I'm already beyond warm LOL)
34 min firming exercises
3 min stretch
Hope that helps!! It's been a while since I've done my walk/jog WATP, but it feels to me like these are bumped up even from that workout. The pace doesn't slow as much in the intervals between jogging/walking as it does in the walk/jog. You're doing a really fast paced walk, then bump up to the jogging and drop down to the really fast paced walk again. I think that's why they feel more intense and like I'm getting more out of them.

Well, I was a little disappointed when I got on the scales this morning and only had a 1 pound loss But I guess one pound is better than none so I'll take it.:( I am now making sure that I'm getting at least a half gallon of water through the day and I ordered the other DVD from WATP that has the Get Up and Get Started on it. I think it has 3 workouts on it too.:) I'm hoping to be able to do all 3 of those, my 100 crunches on the ab lounge and 25 minutes on the treadmill.:carrot: And then if I have any energy left I want to do the first 2 workouts on the WATP DVD that I already have. So that would equal about 11 miles of walking each day. Hopefully that will do something. I don't want to spend one more Summer being this size!
Hope y'all have a good day:sunny:

Hi all, I did lots of skiing last night. Today I'm going to take the doggies and DGS for a walk. I'll look darn silly with two huskies and a jogging stroller but heck, why not. I thought of hooking the doggies to the stroller and letting them pull the stroller since they are sled dogs. I just haven't figured out how... Happy Sunday all,
Today was a slow walk with the doggies. I hurt my back so I'm moving slow. The block is about 2 miles. Thank goodness my resolution was to training my huskies to not pull - we finished beginner classes this past week - and so I could walk without too much pain. I actually feel a little better for having gone. I'm hoping it will loosen up by tomorrow. But no jogging tomorrow, just a walk with Leslie. You all have me excited to receive my new programs.

I am so jealous that so many of you have the new Walk Slim set! It looks brilliant! Sadly Leslie's store doesn't seem to ship outside of the US/Canada, so I'm going to have to wait until it becomes available elsewhere.

Hey everyone!
I just got home from a day with my family, and I'm about to pop in the 2 mile high calorie burn. I did the 1 mile before I left this morning, and I think I can handle another 2 miles.
I decided that I'm setting a goal for February to walk 30 miles. I know, I know, that's just a mile a day, but at least I /know/ I can manage that, and I won't discourage myself by setting it too high and failing.

Ummm, Tammy I may be in ONEderland, but you DO realize I'm NINE INCHES, THAT'S NINE INCHES, shorter then you. So, you are actually much, much, much lighter then me.
Just wondering what kind of monthly goals do you set up for yourself? I kind of go by a day to day thing. I really find breaking the exercise down into 2 parts per day is a much more doable plan for me. 30-40 mins at a pop is much more attainable (for me) then one 60-80 min. session. And today I am going to buy a pedometer. Just one more thing for me to obsess about. I'm hoping that will get me to add some more movement to my day.

Hi ladies, I did 3 miles from the 5 mile DVD this morning (35 minutes), and then walked at lunch for 33 minutes (about 2 miles).
Robin, I first made goals to try to walk a certain number of miles per month. I've forgotten what they were, but I think I started with 50 or 60. After a few months, I wanted to add some strength training, so I decided to go to minutes per month. I've fluctuated between 900 and 1200, and for January I moved back down to 1000 since I have a pretty heavy work load this month. For me it's just all mind games, something to make me exercise when I would otherwise blow it off.
I'm thinking about incorporating more weight training into my goal for February, I'm not sure how yet, but I want to start doing more.
Marie

Hi all, my back is still very sore so I called in sick again today. It does (maybe) seem like it's getting a little better. I'm thinking tomorrow will be even better (I'm pretty optomistic). DH has returned from his trip and went with me for the slow walk with the doggies. By far, that has loosened up my back the most. So another 2 miles today but in no way would anyone consider it aerobic (except the initial hill perhaps).
The old posters know my method of tracking but we have some new posters and I thought I'd share since it works for me so well. I started last January "paying" myself $1 for every mile walked (then jogged). I earned $800 by the beginning of October and I bought a new LCD projector for my home theater (which BTW I used today to watch the Devil Wears Prada). Then I earned a new Ipod 80G video right after Thanksgiving. My toys definitely drive me to stay exercising. Actually now I'm so hooked on the "high" and feeling better that I don't need to track it anymore (but I do since I get $$$ from DH out of it). By making my incentives high ($800) it kept me on track to a point that it became habit.
Well, that's about it. Off to the recliner again. :)

Marie, I hope your back continues to improve.
I did 4 miles again today, but not the walk slim. My hips needed a little mambo break LOL I cannot believe how that one little move has worked my hips!! I've never felt this sore doing WATP...it's not a bad sore, just a you-know-you've-worked-those-muscles sore. So I figured I'd give it a break for one day. I did the one mile muscle, power mile and 1st mile from the 5 mile DVD all with 2 lb weights and then finished with the 4th fast mile from the 5 mile. Not as strenuous a workout as the walk slim by any means, but a good one none the less.
It's so funny, I can remember doing the 5 mile for the first time thinking Oh My GOSH this is so fast!! It actually felt slow-ish doing that fast mile today after doing the walk slim for several days!!

Good morning! I did the 3 fast miles again this morning! Maybe I'll try something different to spice things up. But I'm LOVIN" that mambo so much, I just don't know! LOL
Hubby was kind enough to tell me to make sure I worked out this morning cause he's taking me to dinner tonight--WITHOUT the kids! He didn't want me to ruin my streak (such a sweetie)!
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Hi ladies,
I did the 5 mile DVD this morning with all of the booster (66 minutes) to meet my goal. YAY! I love it when Leslie says "Feel the body heat" and the camera pans over towards her daughter and her daughter looks like Leslie is embarrassing her. It's great to know that you can be that succesful and your teenagers are still embarrassed by you.
Sara, A February goal of 30 miles is wonderful. None of us think that's "just" a mile a day. When I started, I couldn't even do a half a mile at a time. I remember going to the park and only being able to do a 1/4 mile on the track (1 lap).
Robin, did you get your new pedometer? I won one from this website several months ago and I love it. I don't feel dressed without it. :)
Marie, I hope your back eases up soon. It's not like you to not be moving moving moving. What is your latest toy that you plan to get? Wasn't it a new heater?
Karen, You must be flying through the Walk Slim DVD if it makes the 5 mile fast walk seem slow. You'll just mambo your way right past your 1000 mile goal in no time, at this rate. Good for you!
Michele, What a sweetie your husband is! Enjoy your dinner out tonight without the kids.
Have a great rest of the week.
DH goes to the hospital tomorrow to have a tumor removed. If all goes well, he'll be home Friday. Talk to you all then.

Hi everyone!
I'm glad your back is getting a little better Marie. Soon you'll be back to normal and you won't even remember that you hurt your back!
Tammy, I hope everything goes well with your DH. Both of you will be in my thoughts.
I did a lot of walking yesterday and a lot of heavy lifting (UGH mommy had to go to Sam's and I had to be cart-mistress), so I've been a little slow today. But I did a half mile this morning, and another half mile a few minutes ago, and I'm hoping to get a full mile in throughout the rest of the day, even if I have to keep breaking it up into half-mile chunks. My hamstrings are really bothering me today.

Good evening ladies.
Tammy I am so sorry to hear about your DH. You both will be in my thoughts. All the best for a speedy recovery. And yes, I got my pedometer. I really, really like it. I keep trying to move those numbers up. Okay. Now how did you win one from 3FC? I can't imagine it. And again best of luck tomorrow.
Marie glad to hear you are at least having some improvement, these things do take time.
And a good Mambo, Mambo to all you mambo gals, you know who you are. ;)
I just did one 2 mile express today. But I did walk outside, in the freezing cold for 25 mins. And when it's that cold you do walk FAST.
Have a good evening everyone. Keep on walking. :D

Karen, you have me very excited for my Walk Slim set. It's exciting to think that the 5 mile advance seems "slow". And a good workout will be good. Since I couldn't do the workout due to the back at the moment, I'm much more patient.
The back improved a bit today. I can feel the source of the pain whereas the last few days the entire lower back felt like someone had beat it senseless. So being able to define the origin, I think that there's improvement.
I did the fastest walk 2X this morning since I did go to work. Not as effective as walking outside to relieve the pain, but at least I'm not vegetating. :)
Tammy you and your DH are in my thoughts.
Widlfyre, a walk through Sams or Costco is a workout in itself. You're doing great!

Hello all. I am new here and just started doing the WATP tapes on Sunday, and just wanted to know what kind of success you guys have been having with the walking so far. How much weight have you lost and how long have you been doing them?
I am glad to see so many others doing what I am doing. You all are very inspiring. Nice to meet you all:)

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum. I have done WATP in the past and really llke them. A Little bit about myself. I am 42 yrs young I live in N California. I have 4 sons 25,21,15 and.........:dizzy: 14 months. Crazy I know. I would like to lose about 50 lbs. I am hoping to get some motivation from all you motived walkers....smiles. I like the idea of how you guys challenge yourselves with time exercising ie: minutes, miles. That is great. How would I go about starting something like this? I mean like what would be some reasonable and reachable numbers to start with? I have been doing medifast for about 2 weeks and it is working great. I need to add a little exercise tho. I do have some Leslie dvds and the Walk Slim from prevention and the Turbo Jam dvds. I'd like to say CONGRATS :carrot: to all you loosers. :) That is awesome. Anyways I am hoping to give support and get some as well. And of course make some online friends.:cb:
Good Luck to all
