GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM:

http://members.aol.com/debelli/monday_morning_thought.jpg

NO REGRETS

Regrets can never be fully erased, yet they can be prevented. One day soon you'll look back on today. Whether you look back with regret or with satisfaction depends entirely on what you do right now.

This moment right now is in your hands. Though there are plenty of circumstances beyond your control, those things do not matter nearly so much as the things you can control -- your thoughts and your actions. Though the future is uncertain, one thing about it is abundantly clear. The more positively and completely you make full use of the present, the more positive options you'll create for yourself no matter what the future brings.

Imagine yourself looking back on today from some point in the future. What will you wish you had done? Now is your one and only opportunity to do it. What will you regret? Now is the time to prevent those regrets.

Rather than setting yourself up to wonder "why didn't I?" work to put yourself in the position of being able to say "I'm glad I did."

;) Good Morning everyone!! I'm new to the boards. Today is my offical first day on SB. I've read the book and ready to take the plunge! I am glad I found this board. I need all the support I can get! I look forward to all the great post!

Happy Birthday Sef!!

Hello Nascar Girl- you've made the right decision! and this is a great board. We are all here for you, ask any questions you want or just vent, we'll be glad to help when we can.

Frog- I'm IMPRESSED A WHOLE MARATHON! I never did more than 1/2 and can't imagine doing that now. Your question - would I like to try- kept me up half the night. I don't know- I'm 22 years older than when I last ran in one. This is going to take some more thought. I may send you an email with more questions and thoughts...
I have a large standard poodle who is my running mate. She's seven, but very fit, and would rather sprint 5 miles than walk. I've been told that standards act like 2 year olds until they drop dead at 12-14. So far, she's true to breed. They also don't put on weight like labs tend to, so they can remain highly active longer.

Sef- I had to get rid of the scale on a daily basis- my entire mood each day was determined by that stupid #, regardless of what else I did. And the # didn't seem to correspond to either the amount of exercise or food. I know I'm eating right and getting plenty of exercise with weights and running/walking, so the mystery ups and downs have to be hormonal. Tho I do admit to being a salt junkie. It was just infuriating to watch the # go up, even slightly, when I know what I'm doing is right. So weighing myself less, or not at certain times, is the answer for me.

Just a quicky post- a few things I was thinking about last night. Will try to post after work.

Thank you all for being out there!

Mel

I just spent some time reading all the posts last week from Thursday on--WOW. I hate it when I'm off the board for more than a day!

First--the reunion was wonderful! It was a very small turnout--actually none of the people I hung out with in HS showed--but I had a blast talking to people I wouldn't have talked to otherwise! I did smooch and dance a lot! It was good to see how folks are doing after 25 years!

As for Saturday--It was a good day for me--Auburn was victorious over those annoying cowbells and my beloved NC STate beat Wake Forest.

BOB--I offer condolences on Sat. I don't guess I mentioned that I got an MA degree from UGA--so I had to root for them Dawgs on Saturday. That's ok--Auburn has to play Florida on Saturday--they've been awesome in their last games.

Gator--I have reserved a spot for you in the Church parking lot--I will email with directions and the magic code words.

Deb--I'm gald you had a good birthday. My 40th was horrid--my "friends" tortured me for an entire month--black flowers--black armbands--a cake with black icing--a black wreath on my offcie door, etc. But I have to say that I've enjoyed being in my 40s. I hope you do too!

SEF--I laughed when I got the card. I just thought you'd mixed up the 9/3 of my brithday with 10/3. Of course one musn't take senility too lightly!

Frog--I will, in fact, be in the Burlington Area sometime Friday or Saturday morning. I have a family wedding in Greensboro on Saturday. I'd love to see you!

Welcome Newcomers!

Sparkle--It was great to hear from you!

I hope everyone else has a good week. There is no relaible scale here so I won't be weighing until I go home--but I've been good so I'm not worried!

Hello Ladies. I hope that everyone had a good weekend. Mine was okay. Got to spend some quality time with the dh.

I got my fill of comfort food and am back on the path to loss. Thanks to all of you for your kind words.

Happy Birthday SEF! Hope you have a great one.

BOB - Sprry about your loss. I'll be right there in mrning with you next weekend when my Noles get the tar beat out of them by Miami.

Frog - Good luck with the marathoning. I wish I could run, but I have bad ankles and knees. Just now trying to get back to walking, if even just a little bit.

Nascar Girl - Welcome!

Well, that's about it for me right now. Will check back in later. I'm hoping to have good news to report on WIW. :)

Boy - I should have stayed at home. I am in such a fowl mood. I hate to start a week this way!! I was OK until I found about 3 different people who dropped the ball on some important issues that were high priority here at work on Friday!! I have chewed several people out this morning!! I don't like to be that way, but good gracious, seems like folks could at least do what they say they are going to do!!! OK - I'm taking a deep breath now, in ---- out.

The weekend was pretty good. Little man's team placed 3rd in the coach pitch tournament. He got a medallion and is so very proud of it :smug: . Big un' got another hit on Sat. , they lost the game, but are still in contention. We play at 5:30 and if we win we go straight to the championship game at 7pm (possible double header on a school night, what fun!:dizzy: ) Oh well, after tonight things should return to "normal", if there is such a thing when you have kids!!

I'll check back later and maybe be in a little better frame of mind. Thanks for listening to my "venting"!!

Nascar. Welcome. I've been to Newnan before. We have relatives in Carrollton and we have often stayed at a wonderful B & B in Senoia. You have a cute little town.

Fillise--Thanks for the reservation. If you can, will you send me the directions no later than tomorrow. We are leaving here first thing Wed. morning. I'm really happy about the chance to check out the town of Auburn.

BOB--After looking at some of the replays of the UT-UGA game, I think the UT boys played great. But that call by Fulmer to squib that kick at the end of the game was not a great decision. :( All it did was allow GA to get the ball in good field possession--as we all found out. I think it was coaching error that led to that loss. Just MHO. :?: What do you think?

My company is out for most of the day, so have a little time to spend on the board. Have to also check my e-mail. Happy B-day Sef.

Well, gonna go to the store. We are taking a picnic lunch for our drive up to Ga. Poached salmon, roasted veggies, hummus and pita, fruit, etc. Have a great day, all my SB friends.

Where's Debbie?????? This isn't like you at all.....Did you decide to start training for the marathon, too?? :)

I'm STILL WAITING BY THE PHONE!!! I think I'm gonna call and say that when they said they would be making a decision by Friday did that mean if I didn't get a call on Friday that I don't get the job....I don't wanna be a pain, but this is killing me.

I'm sooooo sad for my BULLDAWGS!!!!!!!! and BOB'S BIG ORANGE TEAM NO ONE likes losing at the end of the game like that! What a heart breaker! I haven't talked to my parents yet, I'm sure they're just crushed. My mom used to be a secretary in the football recruiting office and the faculty sponsor for the Bulldog Hostesses who escort potential signees around the campus. So, a loss is a little more personal since she's so close to all the coaches. Meister is in shock that USC is 5-0 and actually RANKED this year.....he keeps saying, "Are you sure they're talking about the GAMECOCKS???"

Well, I'm gonna go send out some more resumes and check on a rhubarb pie I'm making for a friend's birthday. I'll be back on later.

NASCAR GIRL WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!! You've certainly come to the right place!! I'm a pretty big NASCAR fan myself. When I was a sales rep I had several NASCAR fan accounts and I always finagled some way to take at least one of them to a race each year in Daytona. Once you see it live it's totally addictive!!

 Have a great afternoon!

hope everyone had a great weekend! Was thrilled my Gamecocks pulled out another victory!!:smug:
am off to shop for SB food. i've been so tired since school started, really not myself at all. i'm hoping it is just my diet and that i'll feel better when i cut my sugar out. my assistant (i teach kindergarten) is giving up sugar for 2 weeks....her doc reccomended it, she is thin as a rail, but has some tummy issues...need to run to Bi-Lo...will check in with ya'll later! Hey All:wave:

Wasn't intentionally MIA today, started this post this morning but was having computer trouble and wasn't able to get it posted, so here it is, after 6pm and I'll just continue where I left off:)

Got in my 4.5 mile walk/jog this morning while breaking in a new pair of sneakers. Luckily, not to bad in the blister department-will put a little moleskin on those spots tomorrow and should be fine.

TOM ended yesterday, saw the scale go down 1/2lb today, but still up 1.5lbs from all time low. It was wonderful not to have the scale go above 125 this time around. As long as I can keep it between 119-124, I'll be happy with my weigh ins.

It's funny. The size 6 Calvins my Aunt bought me about 5 years ago fit me nicely when I was 129lbs back that one time in my life I had reached that weight-now, here I am thinner as far as the scale says, and they barely fit me now-boy, does gravity and time play cruel tricks on one's body! Either that, or they didnt fit as good as I thought and just can't remember that far back-this, a cruel trick on the mind! LOL!!!

QUESTION: Everyone I've heard from is in agreement in regards to the STORY BOARD. I'd like your input if you think we should keep the board titled MY STORY and then each of us, individually, can come up with a catchy titled for our own story, OR should we name the board something more catchy and post stories with no catchy titles, or with catchy titles? PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR INPUT!!!!

SEF, I'm sure those pants will be dropping off of your sooner than you think! That is, unless you are like me and get stretchy pants that fit snug from day one-I can wear the same pants I wore 20-30 pounds ago easily! Saves me from having to buy multiple sizes!!!;)

NASCAR GIRL, WELCOME TO THE BOARDS! Glad you have decided to join us:) Thanks for posting your BIO on the BIO BOARD as well, it's always nice to learn more about the members here on the board. Where is NEWNAN, GA?? Don't hesitate to ask the gals here questions, you will always get an answer!!!! Again, WELCOME!

MEL, I highly recommend you try to see if your library has GET THE SALT OUT, it may help the salt junkie in you. Another great book by the same author, GET THE SUGAR OUT is good too.

FILLISE, so glad to see you checking in while on vacation-we do miss you when you go away like this!:D Thank goodness I didn't have all that black stuff for my birthday, no, my family was more refined, thank goodness-guess it helped me accept it easier. Honestly, when I stop and think about it, I may be older, but I sure as heck weigh less than I ever have since around 6-7th grade, and I sure as heck can do some running, something I could NEVER do even in elementary school!!! I hope you and FROG can connect again when you're in her area-if you do, hugs to each other from me:)

LIZ, what's new with you???

JMUIR, glad to see you are back on track, always feels better when you're on course than when you go off plan, doesn't it?

TV, sorry to see you having a sucky Monday! Hope things turned out better as the day progressed.

GATOR, your picnic lunch sounds like a gourmet meal!

SOL, you make me feel so good-you missed me! Was here but just couldn't get my post up for some reason. Did you ever call about the job?? Rhubarb, I don't believe I've ever had that-what does it taste like?

(wrote this this morning-did get some stuff done and Michael is using his punching bag as I click away on the keys) Okay, I guess I should go do something constructive. I was actually in the back patio trying to clear some of the crap for my impending garage sale so Michael could go work out out there-he's been begging me to clean part of it up and there was so much crap out there he couldn't do his punching bag-so he should be happy when he comes home-but there is sooo much more to do out there, gosh, where in the world did all this crap come from????:?:

I'll check in with you all later. REMINDER, TOMORROW NIGHT IS CHAT AT 9:15PM EST Hope you can all make it!!!!

Toodles

Hi All!
Well almost thru the day! So far so good I did my 50 min Yoga conditioning for weight loss this AM since I had the Holiday off and have done well today. Thanks for the warm welcome!!

Debelli - Newnan is about 30 minutes south of the Atlanta Airport off I-85 South. It's convienant to Atlanta & Alabama. It is the City of Homes and of course Alan Jackson is from here! He's coming home the last weekend in October to do a fund raiser concert here at Newnan High. He comes home every Christmas. Yep he wears that white cowboy hat!

Sho - I love Daytona! We go every year to the 500! You are so right once you go you are definately hooked! Getting ready to go to Talledega in 2 weeks!

Day 1 down! So far so good!!
Have a great evening everyone!!

Glad to hear you’re doing well and thanks for the “Strong Women” reference.

Froggie
I must admit, I liked Kermit too, but your new avatar has character and since it’s a work in progress, it will be interesting to see what develops. Thanks for the update on your cronies! I’ll be rooting for ya on Jan 6th.....wow, that’s the exact day that I end my 12 week Body for Life program that I restarted today. So we will compare notes then. Hey I remember Enterprise had a good band! I lived in a neighboring town, Ozark, AL for 8 years. I went to Carroll High School.

Deb
I can’t believe you don’t wear tucked-in shirts! I should give you a homework assignment to put on something clingy and post a picture of yourself. ;) Oh and BTW, thanks for posting all the pics!

Random thought: this morning as I was sitting downstairs, I saw a girl with my body type when I was very heavy. She was taller but otherwise looked exactly like me: heavy on the top and belly with absolutely no *** to speak of. She was wearing jeans that were at least two, maybe three sizes too tight so that even though she was wearing a loose shirt, I could see a huge, painful over-spill of her belly. It’s a little smug to say this, but I could see she was very uncomfortable and it made me realize how different my life is now from before, even though I’m still impatient with myself.

End random thought. So you are a size 6, which is still a far-away fantasy for me. I will be happy with whatever the scale says when I can get into a size 6 (probably a 6 to 8 on the top because I don’t think it’s physically possible for me to fit into some size 6 tops ever). But for me it’s the opposite. There was only one time in my life when I ever was remotely smaller and that was when I was 16 and the Dreadful Crash Diet. I starved myself down to what I thought was 135 pounds, but I think that must have been a trick of the mind too. It had to be more like 140 or so. Because I starved and had no muscle tone to speak of, I barely fit into a size 12 (plus I think sizes were smaller back then?) The minute I fit into a size 12 I started gaining again. Now I’m 145 (drum roll) and wear a size 10, loose on the bottom. I think there has been a definite change of body composition.

MY STORY INPUT Yes, I like the idea of a simple title for the thread, and a creative title for each story. That would give the spotlight to individual members.

TV
Congrats to Justin!!! I know all about being blind. I didn’t get glasses until I was 12.

Nance
I meant to tell you last time, that when I first saw your picture, I thought, “She is so . . . GLAMOUROUS!!!! Seriously. You look fab. (I already knew Debbie and Lara were hotties from previous pics.)

SolShine
RING darnit RING!!! ;)

I’ve been looking for that marathon date of Froggie’s too so now I finally have it. I wrote it in my calendar.

Shirley
I think the Kona Ironman was last weekend? Is that right? I heard they are billing it as the first International major sporting event since Sept 11th. Whoohoo. I have never been to the Big Island! But I purchased one of those time share presentation package deals so I will be going soon (more below).

Jmuir
Sorry to hear about the death in your family.

Mel
You can join the club with the scale obsession. I think I’ve been doing pretty good compared to before though (more below) Those plums sound yummy. I like your avatar.

Five miles WITH hills? I’m way impressed.

BOB
How’s the gym going?

Zanne
Good luck with the swimming pool in the basement! ;)

Mary
I think you’ll get back to your lowest weight soon. Seems so difficult in the 140s to budge even a pound. Thanks for asking about the gym, but I did go back (again, see my rambling below)

Tina
A mostly likely belated welcome to the board and congrats on the jeans. My bestest bud in the world has a 7 year old and a 4 year old, they are growing up so fast.

GatorGal
Hope everything’s okay with guests in the house! That didn’t work out for us last time. ;)

Fly
Hope to see you back soon!

Marie
I’m sorry to hear you took a spill on your bike especially because I can relate. But I usually don’t have a good reason to fall though, I’ve fallen on cracks in the sidewalk! My last spill was really bad. I scraped all kinds of places and messed up my shoulders for months. And all I did was slide on a patch of gravel. Clumsy. But I’ve been doing a lot better lately.

Jeanie
Look forward to meeting you if you come to Hawaii this summer. Heck, everyone should come to Hawaii now that airfare is so low!

Tree
Progress not perfection! I used to LOVE beer, it was really hard to give it up at first. Now I don’t even drink alcohol at all...kinda weird for the Town Drunk of Waikiki (for a brief moment in time).

Nascar Girl
WELCOME!!!

Susan
Glad the reunion went well and nice to hear from you too!

:)

Whew! Did I do good???

Okay, obviously I’m doing well because I’m posting. Tend to isolate otherwise. Which doesn’t help.

MIRACLE #1: I went to the gym again, fighting myself tooth and nail to get out of bed at 5:30. Did 3 miles at a moderate pace (34 minutes) and felt really good. I want to do the Body for Life challenge again. So I’m eating many, small meals again. Surprised that I can actually be full on a small amount of food! I’ve gotten so out of touch.

MIRACLE #2: I actually managed to DROP my scale obsession for weeks, didn’t care what I weighed. I’ve been so obsessed lately and the scale hasn’t budged. Well I went to the gym so automatically I weighed myself (besides I had to for the challenge) and it was 145. Weird. It’s almost like, not real.

MIRACLE #3 I have a project, maybe a book, that I’m working on involving my journals over the years, and have been “meaning to” go through them and get things sorted out in my head, kinda exorcise my demons, for months now. Well this past week and especially over the weekend, I got a REAL start! I started with the early stuff, writing stuff out by hand and then actually typing up almost 20 pages. Before getting to the really difficult parts. I don’t know if this is something I’m going to publish, but it’s something I feel compelled to do.

Okay, I gotta go. It’s a no-no for me to use my lunch hour to post but I really wanted to get in touch with ya’ll.

Much aloha,

Chris

Hello everyone! Had a very busy weekend, went out of town to a friends house that I haven't seen since she got married 3 years ago! I did cheat a little and had 2 pieces of quesadilla but not too bad :)

I am on course for this week but I think I am going to skip weighing for a while. It totally discourages me to see the scale not drop when I know my clothes are getting loose.

I am really trying to get my exercise in but man it is hard!!!!:o I know that it is the key for me and since I have so much to lose I don't want saggy skin. :::sigh:::: I just need to bite the bullet and do it.

Hope everyone is well!!!

Oh no, Deb! Give up salt too? That just seems cruel and unusual but I know you are probably right.:( BUT I already (and always have had) very low blood pressure, so I'm not sure what harm I'm really doing to myself. Any of you else know? What's left after giving up sugar, alcohol, chocolate, breads and now salt. ( I know- sex. Can I give that up instead?) :o Ok, I can hear Jon moaning, so I'll get the book! Also-my input on the story board: just call it My Story and the more creatively inclined writers can do what they will, and the rest of us can be dull. It's the content that matters. Or the catharsis.

Well, my 5 mile run left me totally wiped out and creaky today. Managed the exercise bike for 40 minutes, and abs, then a 3 mile walk-and-talk, but no running today! back in my running prime that would have been the warm-up! Course I was in my early 20's then. I don't mind my age, I just want my knees back.

For those of you who have no change of seasons to speak of:
There was frost on the pumpkin this morning! I guess Zanne and Rosalie have already seen that.

Nascar- Good for you! Every day counts, and the first few are especially tough for some people. Hang in there!

Gator- your picnic sounds delicious. Much better than my endless chicken dinners. Salmon is on sale this week, so I think I'll load up!

Fillise- Glad you are having a good time and popped in to say hello. I never went to hs or college reunions, but it sure would be fun to see some people. I never stayed in 1 place long enough to feel particularly attached, but there were some memorable people. Enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Solshine- so what's up? did the phone ring? I hope it all went perfectly for you.

Sparkle- So glad to see you back and hear about your miracles! Those clothes sizes you talk about seem just unreal to me. At about 150 lbs, I can just about breath in a size twelve. When I weighed 115 on the starvation/anorexia method I wore a size 10-12. My BONES just don't fit in anything smaller! And certainly not my boobs since kids! I will be thrilled when a 12 top buttons without gaping, and a 10 bottom zips and I can breathe! You must be in great shape! What is Body Challenge? again, so glad to see you back!

Hello to everyone else-

Just wanted to say hello to everyone before I went to bed. I did not feel well all day today. I woke up this morning at 5 am with a headache. So I made sure I had protien for breakfast and it didn't help. It several meds and hours later before it went away. Then it left my eyes stinging and burning. So when I finally got home around 7 it was off with my contacts. Anyway enough complaining :dizzy:
I will see you all tomorrrow.....I love chat night :)

Welcome Nascar Girl!

Sparklescamp - thanks for the support. My hubby and I actually brewed beer for a while, the darker the better . The majority of it went to our annual Thanksgiving Camping retreat. I just can't believe that I didn't even think of WHAT I was drinking, since beer is a total no-no! I KNOW how much sugar goes into it! I was so focused on what I could eat, it never occured to me that what I drank would be suspect! At work & home, I usu drink coffee, ice tea or water, so deciding what to drink was a no-brainer (everything was legal with the help of fructose). I guess I haven't gotten into the diet mindset yet. You're right though--Progress not perfection! I don't think I'll make that mistake again!:)

Debelli- I think I'll be ok on the camping trip. We will have a cooler or two to bring. It's like a potluck with a turkey roasted in the ground as the main course. I'll just make sure there's some extra SB legal stuff for me. I'll have to bypass the fire-warmed pumpkin pie, the turkey stuffing, and my husband's famous dutch oven cobbler.... I think I can convince him to SB-legalize that for me though! :s:

Btw, all you Orlando folk- In a week or so, I'll be visiting Orlando (convention for work). I'll be at the Orlando Convention Center. Any suggestions for good coffeehouses, or great restaurants within walking distance?

TV- I totally sympathize with your sucky Monday. I had one too. I couldn't wait for quitting time! At least there's only one Monday a week! Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love ya, tomorrow....:D

BusDeb- Sorry about the migraine. :( Does the weather cause yours? I had one too today. It's been stormy for the last couple of days, that causes mine. Really, I'm NOT complaining, at least we're out of the 100 degree weather! Lights out, and a quiet bedroom helps me the most. Hope you feel better.

 I read an article on iVillage.com yesterday on the topic SLEEP DISORDERS by Jennifer Russo:
"Is your slumber often interrupted by an overwhelming urge to eat? Do you ever wake up and find you are someplace other than your bed? Does falling asleep entail endless hours of tossing and turning before catching some 'shut-eye?' Or do you wake up and stare at the clock numerous times during the night? If any of these situations ring a bell, you may be one of the approx. 40 million Americans with a sleep disorder...........Some people regularly wake up and can't fall back to sleep without snacking on something first. Other night eaters are completely unaware of their midnight gorging and are akin to eating sleep-walkers. Both types of midnight munchers have the so-called "nocturnal eating syndrome." Although most sleep eaters don't feel hungry, they tend to eat high-fat, high-sugar, high-calorie foods in unusual combinations. Since they are not fully conscious, these people often are careless while eating and make big messes. One-third of patients also injure themsleves during food preparation..........Some nocturnal eaters even consume non-food items. [B]Many sleep eaters are surprised when they gain weight despite healthy daytime eating habits and only realise they are sleep eating after finding evidence of .....nocturnal nibbling."

Perhaps my dh was telling the truth when he said he didn't make the messes and this is how I ballooned over the last 25 years!!! :s: :o - sounds good, so that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!

Good Morning Y'all!

At work so I gotta be quick! No frills. Went to the gym last night to lift weights. Will run this evening after work for a speed work-out, more cardio than anything.

Decided to be Elvira for Halloween. Go the dress on sale at Spencer's. Will probably go back for the wig. Decided I had the chest and hips to pull it off! Promise to share pics!

DEB - I know what you mean about gravity. I can't figure out why I can't fit into those junior size jeans, especially the thighs! . I like the idea of keeping the new thread "My Story!"

TV - Are you a "Grouch-asaurus Rex?" Hope you have better day today. Where in Bama are you?

BOB - Hope it's not the "Pause" at 35, but I know it's possible! I anxiously await your info. Are you ready for another Survivor?

SPARKLE - Good luck with the "body for Life." Hang in there! Ozark, AL is a lifetime away from Honolulu isn't it?

FILLISE - Would love to meet on Friday. We could have lunch or dinner. Do you need lodging? I have a spare bedroom that's open if you need it. Hope you don't mind a large brown dog begging to be petted! Let me know your intenerary and we'll work something out.

NASCAR - welcome!

BUSDEB - Hope you are feeling better today. Did you have a chance to see my post to you from Sunday evening?

MELIRIS - Sorry to keep you awake pondering running thoughts! You can strengthen the muslces that surround your knees in the gym. I too am working on that area (iliotibial band ITB) and trying to reduce my Q angle (the angle from your hips to your knees. It is what makes women with wide hips look knock-kneed.) If I can reduce my hips that will help reduce the angle and prevent injuries. Good Luck. Please feel free to shoot any questions my way! Labs do tend to "bulk up" in their later years. Dixie isn't one of those fat labs, she eats a reduced calorie dog food and gets a fair amount of exercise. She thinks she's still a puppy, but her age shows on runs more than 3 miles :(

JMUIR - Sorry to hear that you've lost a loved one.

LIZERY - I know how frustrating the scales can be. Hang in there.

Hope to be at chat this evening.

Peace,
FROG

Good Tuesday morning to all

I fill much better today. Thanks to all of you for the good wishes. I am about to go walk on the treadmill. The wind is so bad here.......you would think it is march or something so I won't try to go out in it. I will just open the blinds as my hubby said and pretend I am outside.

Frog lover......yes I did read your post and I am glad I brought back memories for you. We have the most fun on our band outings and we have had plenty of them. My oldest son who is almost 20 was in HS band and then last year was in a college band. He is a trumpet player. Now my middle son who is a 10 th grader is in the same HS band. He plays trombone. Next year my daughter will be in the middle school band. I think she may try to play brothers trumpet but we will see. So as you can tell we will be involved in band for a while yet. I told the band director he better be nice me because I might be in Cougar band longing than him. He laughed and agreed. BTW I can't wait to see your Elvira pics. I wish I were that brave.....

TV......sorry to hear about your day yesterday......I have those occasionally too. How are things in North Alabama? My parents were up there this past weekend for the Fiddlers Convention. Did you guys get to go to that? We never have the opportunity to go because of you guessed it BAND!!!! We always have a band contest on the same weekend.

Debellit.........I got my agave syrup/nectar and I love it. I will most likey use it for my coffee......it makes it yummy. ;)

Liz.....I know what you mean about the exercise. Sometimes there just doesn't seem like enough hours in the day for everything.

Nascar girl.....welcome

Well gotta run ......cya all later.

Thank goodness, Monday is over!!! A new day, a new attitude ;) !

Boy, I don't know about ya'll, but my sky is filled with lines where planes are flying and keeping an eye on things! I know its a good thing they are patroling, but it sure makes me feel uneasy. I am sitting right between Redstone Arsenal (big military base)and a Nuclear Plant. Oh for the peaceful days of before 9/11........ times have changed so quickly. And the bio stuff just scares me to death!!

Gotta tell ya'll about the ballgames!! First one was for 2nd place and to move on to the championship game. We were home team and tied it up in the last inning, so we went into an extra inning. We were able to hold them off, so when we got up to bat, the score was still tied. My Justin was up to bat and boy was Mommy nervous - he got 4 balls in a row for a walk. Next batter up and the pitcher throws a wild pitch and Justin steals second - barely makes it before the throw gets there, whew:o . Another wild pitch, Justin steals third and again barely makes it, :dizzy: . No outs - batter hits straight to third baseman, so he holds Justin up from running home. I see DH whisper to my Justin and think there is no way he will send him with no outs and 2 runners on, all we need is a hit ----- well, guess what, there was another wild pitch, and here comes Justin  - the pitcher comes up to cover home and the catcher thows to him, Justin slides a most perfect slide and gets in under the tag!!!!!! I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK!!!!! Our boys ran out of the dugout and surrounded Justin - all I could see was that big :D on his face! He was thrilled! Never would have thought my son would have been the one to steal home for the winning run!! It was GREAT!! We then got a 15 minute break (after playing 2 solid hours) and went on to start the championship game. We didn't win that one, but second place was just fine. Our boys were so tired after that first game, they could hardly function for the next one. It really wasn't fair, but thats the way it goes. The other team was fresh (and were also out of school that day, we weren't) and they were raring to go. It was almost 10:00 when we got finished! Just goes to show that MEN are the ones who draw those brackets up for the tournaments. Women know that it would have been better for both teams to be fresh and that it isn't good to have double-headers scheduled on a school night!! I bet their teachers are having trouble with some sleepy boys today  !

I'm glad it is all over now. I plan to get back on the exercise wagon tonight!! My DH has even said he would like to sign up at our new wellness center in town and start going to work out a few nights/week. I told him that if he does that he better get a family membership, cause I am goin with him!!

Frog - Yes a T-Rex with extra sharp teeth and ready to BITE would describe me pretty well yesterday. I think I am more like a plant eater today - rather than a meat eater!! BTW - I am in N. AL, Huntsville area.

Busdeb - Sounds like you might be having some allergy problems, have you tried taking sudafed or benadryll? I get headaches like that in the fall too and usually one of the two, combined with ibprofen does the trick for me.

SolShine - did you get a call?? Did you call them?? My best wishes are with ya!!

Tree - my day is a little better today - hope yours is too!!

Deb - Don't even get me started on jeans!!! ;) I used to have 2 pair of size 1's back in the old days!!! I have loads of size 7/8's that I am holding onto with hopes of getting back into soon. I do think that your body changes shape after pregnancy - I know my ribcage expanded a little because of the way bra's fit, I think hips push out a little too!!

I hope to be at chat tonight - See you all then!

Morning Everyone!

It is a gorgeous fall day here in SE North Carolina! I need to go buy some sweaters and I sold all mine at the yard sale! I went shopping at the new Ross here in Wilmington and got my first pair of size 20 slacks! Wooo Hoo! It goes with a red jacket that has a detachable fake fur collar--Very Hot!

I also found some new chocolate--well new to me. I live in a place where there is NO SB legal chocolate available. It is Scharfen Berger Chocolate. I got the Mocha bar. It is 62% Cocoa. A 1-oz bar has 170 calories. 11 Fat grams, 15 Carb grams, 3 protein grams, and 10 grams of sugar. Each bar is divided into four sections. I split one of the section with my Mom yesterday. It was very rich and creamy--and enough! It very much satisfied my taste for chocolate--so what does 1/8th a bar work out to???--well within guidelines! I'm thinking 1/4 a bar when I have a taste for chocolate will be perfect!

I'm like Deb in this respect. I don't have near the taste for chocolate that I used to. I try to keep some SB chocolate around, but most of the time I forget I have it. Still, it is handy when you really do want some chocolate---it keeps you from consuming stuff that is not SB legal! I guess that's my Tueday tip.

I'm headed up to Kinston to see the nieces this afternoon.

Gator--I sent an email with directions for the church. I hope you got it--it didn't get kicked back to me. Any way it is the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Gay and Thatch downtown. Anyone can tell you how to get there. Tell Todd that Susan sent you! Have fun in Auburn--but not too much fun!

I'm going to defrost some of my SGWW Hamburger buns so I can have a BBQ samich for lunch. Yum!

I may not be on again until Thursday or Friday.

Frog--I don't yet know whether I will be coming through Friday night or Saturday morning. My family is notorious for not making plans until the last minute. I'll let you know when they decide something!

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone!

I really surprised myself this morning by going out for my walk. I woke up tired, left foot bothering me, rain imminent and just not feeling like I wanted to go. Finally, after an hour of debating, I decided to go, 5 minutes from home, it started to rain, not bad, but more than a sprinkle, could have turned back, but went on, figured I was already damp. Ended up going the full 4.5 miles, though I only walked, and slow at that.

Scale is up a bit for me today-had milk and cheese for the first time in a while last night, don't know if that has anything to do with the price of eggs in China or not. Will have to keep watch on that.

NASCAR, okay, who the heck is Alan Jackson? I haven't a clue-sorry! So you aren't far from the big city. I like the Roswell/Marietta areas of GA-put me near a Harry's and I'm happy!

SPARKLE, I guess you'd have to see me to understand why I don't wear anything clingy, or as I say, lays on the fat. You're lucky you are young and haven't been through the ups and downs of yo-yo dieting to lose the elasticity in your skin-you'd understand more so:) Good going on the scale, 145 is great! I give you a lot of support for doing the BFL, I doubt I could tackle that.

LIZERY, good for you for not being crazy about the scale like I am! Keep getting that exercise in, at the beginning it's hard to get into it, but once you are use to doing it, you miss it when you DON'T do it! At least that's the case most of the time, for me.

MEL, definitely give up salt before sex! I've never been a real salt person, rarely do I salt anything and I watch what I eat as far as salt content, just don't like too much sodium. Now, if we were talking about sex, that's a whole other bag of chips! How do you prepare your salmon? I bought some, ended up putting it in the freezer since my Mom left my house without preparing it. No matter what I would do to it, it would definintely of sucked!

BOB, Sharon said the same thing to me when I told her about the Voyager and about going there as well. We'll just have to make some sort of pilgrimage there before that time.

BUSDEB, glad to hear you are feeling better-what in the world did you have???? Glad you like the agave-just wait til you start to bake with it!!!:D

TV, size 1's? My gosh, that's like a walking skeleton! Never would want to be that, my bones alone are bigger than 1's! Wonder how 3, 5, 7, 9, etc sizes compare with 2, 4, 6, etc. Any idea?

TREE, sounds like you are true campers! I would love to go camping one day, not here in Fl with the heat, humidity and mesquitos, but somewhere nice up in the mountains! Something to look forward to, one day, I guess. GATOR & SOL are the ones to ask about places to go in Orlando as they live up there. Eli is going next week for Starbucks and I'm having him check out to see if Italiani's is still open up there-a place we had here that closed up:(

DRAGON, good article-had my Father's name written all over it!!!!!

FROG, ELVIRA-you MUST take pictures!!!!!

FILLISE, the same brand of chocolate, they have a 70, or 77% (I forget which one it is) that's in a yellow wrapper that is WONDERFUL! I tried a piece of my CHOCOLOVE BAR that I've had for 1 1/2 years in my cupboard-was VERY good! Enjoy Kinston-use to date a guy that lives there:)

Gotta run, Mom coming over for a visit, haven't showered!

Reminder that TONIGHT IS CHAT AT 9:15PM EST!!

TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!!!

Not much to report today, but thought I would post anyway. Things are going well. I got through 2 liters of water yesterday, but I wore a path to the ladies' room. ;) Also, I haven't been walking much because my ankles have been bothering me, but i have started taking the stairs at work (I was feeling like a bum since I only work on the second floor.

Deb- way to go with your walk. I wish I had that much will power. Also, Alan Jackson is a country singer.

BOB - I don't think the Noles are in a tailspin quite yet. We did beat up on Wake Forest pretty good (I know, it's Wake Forest). Miami will be tough, but that is mainly because of all the injuries.

Fillise - way to go with the pants. I know from the last time I lost what a great feeling it is to by smaller. Also, where did you get that chocolate?

TV - That is awesome about your son's baseball game. He must have been on cloud 9 for the rest of the night (actually, has he come down yet?) :)

To everyone else, have a great day. Gotta go, company pool match.

Talk to you soon.

Hi Ladies - no time to post as usual, dealing with ongoing Dad crises...but thought you would all like a gander at this online article I read today. Again, lumping SB with Atkins, high protein, unhealthy "diets". Grrrrr!!!

Heart Assn. warns vs. high-protein diets
DALLAS, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- A new American Heart Association science advisory
warns that high-protein diets restrict healthful foods that contain
essential nutrients and are not recommended for the general public.

The diets may be associated with increased risk for coronary heart disease
due to increased intakes of saturated fat, cholesterol and other associated
dietary factors, the AHA said. The advisory said, "Although these diets may
not be harmful for most healthy people for a short period of time, there are
no long-term studies to support their overall efficacy and safety."

The advisory, which appears in the AHA journal Circulation, is critical of
five specific diets: Atkins, The Zone, Protein Power, Sugar Busters and
Stillman.

Barry Sears, creator of The Zone diet and a spokesman for Robert Atkins,
creator of the Atkins diet, responded to the advisory with harsh criticism.
Nutrition experts had a variety of opinions.

The lead AHA author singled out some diets for more criticism than others.
"Diets that are high in fat that are continued for longer periods of time
for weight reduction have some concerns associated with them in terms of the
risk for hardening of the arteries -- in other words, heart disease and
eventually, stroke," said Robert H. Eckel, immediate past chairman of the
AHA nutrition committee. "I'm talking specifically about the Atkins diet and
the Protein Power diet."

Colette Heimowitz, spokeswoman for Atkins, told United Press
International, "There is plenty of new evidence to show that controlled
carbohydrates, as a way of life, reduces risks of diseases and addresses the
obesity epidemic as well as diabetes. "

Heimowitz compared Atkins to Charles Darwin, the founder of the concept of
evolution, and referred to the AHA as "Neanderthals."

Sears said the AHA should "be ashamed of what they wrote." He said the
article misrepresents his widely followed program when it says that with The
Zone diet, 127 grams of protein would be consumed.

"Nowhere in my literature have I ever talked about eating more than 100
grams of protein per day," Sears told UPI. The upper limit recommended by
the AHA is 100 grams per day. "It's almost as if it was written by an
undergraduate student," Sears said of the article.

According to David Heber, director of the University of California, Los
Angeles, Center for Human Nutrition, the Atkins diet poses problems if used
for an extended period of time. If Atkins is followed as written, balance is
introduced in the later stages, but some people stay in the earlier stages
for long periods of time, he said.

"I think what really stimulated this article more was the Atkins diet,"
Heber told UPI. Heber is author of "What Color Is Your Diet?" and a
professor of medicine at UCLA School of Medicine.

John Cooke, director of the sector of vascular medicine at Stanford
University Medical School in Palo Alto, Calif., told UPI: "I think that the
AHA is absolutely right on target, particularly for patients with heart and
vessel disease. The high-protein diet as recommended by Atkins is the wrong
thing for cardiovascular health, it's the wrong thing to do, it's the wrong
nutritional plan."

"If people got more protein via a plant-based diet, that would probably be
fine," Cooke said, but added that is not how people are implementing the
Atkins diet. "They're eating sausages, bacon, steak," he said.

A researcher who directly questioned the AHA advisory finding is Jeff
Volek, an assistant research professor specializing in low carbohydrate
nutrition research in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of
Connecticut at Storrs. Volek told UPI: "I wouldn't agree with the general
conclusions. The tone of the article is a little bit aggressive in lieu of
the lightly referenced data to speak against high-protein diets. I don't
think we have enough evidence to come out this strongly against them."

Laurence Sperling, the medical director of preventive cardiology at Emory
University in Atlanta, said: "I think it's a very sound advisory."

Sperling has his own version of a lower carbohydrate diet that includes
higher fats and proteins -- predominantly monounsaturated fats with an
emphasis on plant-derived proteins, such as soy, beans and nuts. Sperling
said he would support The Zone over the Atkins approach.

"Some of the scientific principles in (Atkins) are probably correct, but I
think people practice that to extremes," Sperling said. In so doing they can
cause themselves harm, he added.

Okay, here’s the deal……they LOVE me! They WANT me. :D The VP has put a “hold” on the position. The hiring manager called me today and said that she and her director are fighting for the position and ME in that position. There is another position at the same company that would be somewhat similar and since this one might not go through the HR contact for THIS job is going to talk to the HR contact for the OTHER job since he hasn’t contacted me yet. This is so freakin’ frustrating! Soap Opera Central on the job front.

DEBBIE – Rhubarb is a reddish celery looking plant that’s kinda like a sweet tart taste. A very dear friend of ours loves rhubarb pie and I make one for him every year for his birthday. It’s flour, quick cooking tapioca, sugar, an egg and rhubarb baked into a double crust pie. I don’t really know how to describe the flavor, but it’s not sweet enough to use in anything without LOTS of sweetener added. I bought too much so I made a cobbler for Vince to nibble on at home. You and Eli ARE planning on staying at Chez SolShine when you come, aren’t you??? We can put Eli in the guest bedroom and you and BOB and I can camp out in the living room – There’s plenty of room if GATORGAL or anyone else wanted to join us. I’m all for catchy

MISSGRACE – My hubby is a bonafide Gamecock, too! We went to Columbia for a week this year and even caught up with his old landlord. Too funny. There’s a killer Indian restaurant downtown that we really enjoyed…..come to think of it…..we enjoyed A LOT of eating in Columbia….

SPARKLE – Soooo good to hear from you!! Now that we know you’re struggling when you aren’t posting ---- better be watching that e-mail! All that working out has helped your body composition, too, most likely. I have a “skinny” picture of myself I keep around for motivation. It was taken at a time when I loved my hair, my wardrobe, my self-esteem and I was working out regularly. That’s where I want to be again. There’s also “fat” pictures around and I think I never want to have that many chins again! Can’t wait to read that book!! I know it’ll be a best seller!!

MEL – FROST??? What’s that?? It’s been perfect fall weather here, nice and cool (cool for Floridians). I’ve been able to open the windows until around lunch time then it’s too warm. I do so miss seeing those pretty colors in nature this time of year, though. One of our clients last year was in the New England area and she sent a whole box of beautiful leaves for us. Some people thought it was a bit weird, but most everyone loved seeing the colors first-hand.

BusDeb – Hope today finds you feeling much better!

TREE – The convention center is right across the street from Pointe Orlando. FAO Schwarz is there and a whole array of shopping and eating. It’s way south of me, but there were gangs from work that used to go for happy hour and dinner. There are TONS of restaurants down there – let me know what kind of food you like and I’ll find some for you. Of course we always eat at Road Rock Café on I-drive – burger and a glass of wine since we don’t do beer. :) Let us know when you’re going to be here and perhaps GATORGAL and I could swing down and meet you.

TV – Not much air traffic around here, but on the coast they’ve been practicing their maneuvers. Vince wants to go watch one day. Sounds like Justin isn’t the only one having a ball this season! Good for him! You write a great blow by blow synopsis of the game!

NASCAR What a great picture!! I could see some Brooke Sheilds there….someone else, too……racking brain…will have to get back to you on that one!

FILLISE Amazing how our tastes change as we start eating right, isn’t it? Congrats on the smaller sizes, too! Sounds like a blast at the reunion. Can’t wait to see those pictures with the fancy ‘doo!

Well, back to the jobsites……

Debelli - Thanks for the compliment! Alan Jackson is a country singer with big blue eyes and long slightly curly blonde hair fine with a capital F! I'm about an hour south of Marietta. We have a Harry's here in Peachtree City, I went in there for the first time the other day, pretty neat store!

Day 2 is so far so good! I think I may need to bring a mid morning snack with me. I'm here at 7:30 AM so by 10 I'm getting hungry. I'll try to post more tonight gotta get back to work!

I started this reply on Sunday & never had the chance to post it. Sorry about the delay, but I'm posting this one now & then going to read the new board. My time off is just not my time of lately if you know what I mean?

Bob Of course I think of you!!!Especially when I think of chicken cause I know you love it so much, but at other times also. Hope the gym is going ok.

Gatorgal I heard that your gators stomped all over our tigers Saturday. I'm sure my friend Anna must have been fumming!!! LOL Hope you can get to your chair & puter again soon!

Debbie, I had the treat of my life Sunday!!! A friend came to spend the afternoon after church & we decided to go to Lafayette & eat at the Lebanese resturant that I had noticed a while back. We got there & found that it was closed on Sundays so we went to another one that a friend had told me about, a Greek/Lebanese place called Arzie's. Since we had never been, the waitress was kind enough to guide us with our choice, so we ended up getting a sampler plate & spinach pie. We had falafel (?sp), vegetable wrapped in grape leaves, hummus, some other dip that she said was a cousin to hummus, lentil rice, a yougart cucumber dip, eggplant, gyros, chicken, & cabbage roll. Oh, there was something else that had ground beef & cinnamon?? don't remember what she said it was, but we ate & ate & still had some to bring home. & of course Tabouli. Girl, we were in heaven! We also met Arzie. He came out to the table when the waitress brought out the food & told us a little about each item, but first he told us he was the dish washer instead of the cook...LOL He was very pleasant & friend & seemed to be flirting with my friend Linda. LOL Anyway, what a wonderful afternoon we had. This will certainly not be our last visit there. My friend Linda is going to Fort Lauderdale in a couple of weeks & I was telling her about you. She said she would sure like to meet you. I think she will be there for a couple of weeks. She use to live there. She does not follow SB, but she is the one that encouraged me to start it 3 years ago. I also learned of a ME grocery store in Lafayette too & I found it yesterday. Found the Tahini. Do I need to keep it in the frig?? Also found some felafel mix. Can't wait to try it.

Zanne Glad to hear that your Thanksgiving went well. Hey, getting into those pants was a good acheivement! Next time you wear them, you should be able to be comfortable in them longer! Listen, that Blueberry Buckle recipe Debbie told you about is good with almost any fruit. I made it with some strawberries & it was fabulous. SGWW stands for stone ground ww. If it makes you feel any better, I had a hard time with that one at the beginning too

ROSALIE, Good to hear that your injuries were no worse than that. I hope your Thanksgiving went well today with your family. I have not looked at the reipe board yet, but I will & I was able to find some chandel dal at the ME grocer to do the recipe you had sent me.

j red, Yea, I hear you girl, my hair has changed color over the years also. It use to be carrot red/orange when I was younger, but then it turned strawberry blond. Of course with the age comes more "highlights" these days :D which makes some people think I'm a blond instead of red-haired & that's ok too cause I had always wanted to have blond hair  Yes, I am not far from Erath, about 25 - 30 minutes away. It's a little smaller than Kaplan which is where we are closest to.

Tree, Welcome! Thanks for the info on the tahini. I did find it at the ME store yesterday. It was located not far from the university which I should have know it would be in that area since we have so many ME students there.

Fruitloupe, Are you using Netscape?? I have found that I can no longer use Netscape to view the board. I use to, but then it started giving me problems like you described. I now use Internet Explorer or my MSN browser & have no problems at all ever since I switched. Give it a try.

FROG, Sorry to hear that you had a nasty headache. Hope it's all better now. About the decision of wheather to fly or not, give it time. If you still don't feel any better about it, by all means, drive if you can take the time. It may help to ease the tension some & be more relaxed for the run once you get there. And having your own wheels will sure save you money like you said.

Meliris See my post to Fruitloupe above about the problem of your page not loading right. 5 mile run? You go girl. I admire you & Frog for being able to run. I jog some, but only for 1 minute intervals or less, but I walk really fast. No, I'm afraid no tahini in local grocery store here in cajun country, but I found some at the ME grocery store yesterday. No instructions, so I'm not sure if I should store it in the frig or not.

SEF, BIL had to go back to the hospital this week end. I got a call from my neice & she said that he had gone for dialysis & something had happened, not sure what & they had to rush him to the hospital. He was in & out of conciousness & had a horrible cough. Sounds like it may be congestive heart failure. I went to visit yesterday & they did confirm that he had fluid in his lungs, so I guess it was Pulmonary Edema. The doc had not told them anything definite. Still doing tests.

Good afternoon everybody! My day is going well and I've been really good today.:) We had a really good inservice yesterday with a guy that does profiling. We are learning to figure out our kids to better educate them and to look out for potential problems. Very interesting.

TV Congrats on the game! Sounds like it was exciting.

Jmuir Know what you mean about the water. I'm lucky that my classroom is just across the hall from the restrooms.

BOB Maybe it's not THE CHANGE. Of course I'm ready for it. It's not fair to hafe the hot flashes AND the other too. Who said something about a fish test? What IS that?

:?:
BUSDEB Your band family sounds like mine. All three of us were in the band jr. high through college. My sister's kids are all in band too. Maybe my little ones will someday.

Have a good day.

Evening All:wave:

Have a few minutes to get in a post before I head off to Laurens school for OPEN HOUSE. Should be back long before chat begins tonight:)

Made the BLUEBERRY BUCKLE but instead used raspberries that I needed to get rid of-a bit too tart, but I managed to eat half of it just the same:^: What can I say-I have NO willpower when I bake!

JMUIR, you had me laughing with the idea of the tread being worn away from you making potty calls! I have days like that, you feel like you should just be the Queen of the Throne! Hey, stairs are stairs, no matter how many there are-anything is better than nothing:)

VIV, I've seen so many article with mis-representation about SB. You'd think people would get their facts straight before they write an article debunking something-the important thing is, we know it's wrong and we know what the truth is. What's the latest on your Dad? I thought about you on Sunday, Eli and I went to a Flea Market in Ft. Myers and they had the floaty dresses like you had on when you were here-very cute!

SOL, that's wonderful that the company wants you-what's not to love?!? And wait til they get to know you! Then they'll thank their lucky stars they hired you-for whatever position it is. GOOD LUCK!!! Sounds fun for January, a true slumber party! Either we can all camp out at your house, or maybe we can get a great rate in the local hotel and you and Vince can stay there as well and pretend you are on a mini-vacation!!! We'll work out the plans as time gets closer. Have to see ultimately what FROGS plans are going to be. You are so sweet to offer your home-at least I know I will be well protected by one of Florida's Finest!

NASCAR, truly, I do see a bit of Brooke in you-very pretty gal! I have an old girlfriend I haven't seen in years who lives in Peachtree City, she's a realtor. She just recently e-mailed me not too long ago out of the blue after about 13 years. I haven't been to Harry's in years, but it was great when I did go-best fruits I'd ever seen anywhere!! Definitely take snacks with you, better to eat little meals than just 3 squares a day. Glad to hear you are doing good on day #2!:D

MELF, sounds like you had a great experience at that ME restaurant! The other dip, was it BABA GANOUSH? It's an eggplant dip. I make the yogurt and cucumbur for Eli once in a while, it's very refreshing. The lentils and rice is good too, very easy to make. Was the food with the ground beef in cinnamon shaped like a football? If so, that's kibbe. So you got some tahini! Nope, doesn't need refridgeration, BUT, if you want, you can throw it all in your food processor, whip it around for about 30 seconds and throw it back in the container and stick it in the fridge-this way, it's always consistent and easy to spoon out of the jar without there being the thickness at the bottom, but really, that's not necessary-sometimes I do it, sometimes I don't, mostly I don't, just keep it in the cupboard. I told ROSALIE I'd get her some other recipes to use the tahini in, so will do that for you as well. Which brand of falafel mix did you get? Did you see my old post on how to make taratour for the falafels-I make mine thin so less calories, but you can always make it a bit thicker. We go to Ft. Lauderdale at LEAST once a week! Where in Ft. Ld. is Linda going to be? Tell her she must go to Ole Ole across from BROWARD MALL, if she likes Mexican, that is. Hey, we could always meet her there! Let me know-and let me know if there's anything you'd want from down here if we do get to meet up with her.

MUSIC, glad to hear you're having a good day! Sounds like we could have a band with the gals who've played instruments on this board! Though, I'm not sure you'd want me playing my clarinet-I was awful-was known as the Demerit Queen:eek: At least I was good at marching!

Gotta run and get ready to go. I'll see you all at CHAT TONIGHT AT 9:15PM EST Here's the link to get you directly into the SB CHAT ROOM:

Hi all!

Had doctor apointment this a.m. He loved my print-out of meds, surgeries etc. He has scheduled me for neorology check-up, I probably have Neoropathy in my feet. I sort of figured that, but didn't have the wherewithall to have it checked out. Also said I can take an additional dose of Celebrex when I am really aching. Of course, have to have blood drawn checking for other things besides cholestrol/triglycerides. One of the things is Rheumatoid Arthritis Factor. I was diagnosed with that years ago. So when all the tests are done have a follow-up appointment in a month. I hate going to a new doctor but he seems very nice and thorough.

I am glad I can take an extra dose of meds as I need it today!

Will try to comment on posts, can't sit too long.

MEL - Thanx for birthday wishes, today is my ds's. I am trying to ignore the scales, so was surprised today when nurse weighed me and I had lost 2 more pounds. I am at the lowest weight in years!!!!

BTW, the doctor was very pleased I am on SB, and profuse in congrats on 54# loss!!

I am a real dog lover. Had collies, my first was really as smart as Lassie, the second dumb as dirt, German Shepherd was good, and then an Australian Shepherd. She was so smart, I lost her after 15 years and really miss her. The kids asked what kind I would get if I replace her, I said a poodle, but the middle size one. We already have their dog and 2 cats and my cat, so don't think I need to get another dog!! But........

FILLISE - Senility? Senility? I mean really!!! Puh-lease!! A little senior moment doesn't mean........what was I talking about?

Glad you had fun at your reunion! It's surprising how you will associate in your old age with people you wouldn't have given the time of day to in your youth. Wisdom does come with age!

NASCAR - A pretty young woman! I love the races, was brought up at them, when they raced on dirt tracks. My father had a welding business and the crews paid him a dollar a night, he would repair and tear ups that needed it for that. Of course we were in the pits and I would sit on top of the big truck we had to watch the races! Such fun!! So have always been a fan!

Can you imagine someone not knowing who Alan Jackson is? These city people!!

JMUIR - Great you had quality time with dh. That's so important! Sometimes in the hurly-burly of life, we have to make time for each other.

TV - How nerve wracking, watching those steals! He must still be floating!!! What great memories your boys will have!

GATOR - Sounds like a great picnic lunch, you are always thinking!! If we do it's not so hard stayong OP!

SOL - So glad you finally got call, but still on tetherhooks aren't you? At least they want you! We'll just keep praying.

MISGRACE - Nice to meet you. You will feel better without the sugar. I feel so much better and have not had any pancreas attacks for months. Today, doctor said it was because with the weight loss and better diet, body does not have to work so hard making insulin, bile etc.

DEB - So your Calvin's don't fit? So what! At 40 most of us do not have the 20 year old body anymore. Your body fits you now, and that's what counts! Besides, those sands of time do keep shifting!!!

Rhubarb is a vile vegetable, that looks like large red celery and is so sour you can't eat it unless there is a ton of sugar used. My dh and mil loved it and I would make pies and sauce for them, they also liked rhubarb/strawberry pie.

You want to know about saved crap!?! My dh had a theory, you save it for 7 years and if you don't use it you save it for 7 more. That's why when I moved I had 2 gallery sales and 3 (count 'em) yard sales. I love going to them, not having them!!!

You poor deprived city child......you don't know who 'alan Jackson is. Even I know he's a hunk!

SCAMP - Love to see your posts. Being top heavy can be a drag. My dil is not a big, but she has two canteloupes. She's an F cup, so has problems with clothing too. Is she buys something 2 piece they pieces have to be able to be bought separately. I don't know how they are advertising the Ironman. It doesn't show on TV here until December so there are no promos for it. I didn't even see anything on sports news about it. I liked the big island. It's laid back and not so citified as Oahu. It will take you a while to compile your journals, but it will give you a chance to really look back to where you have been in life.

MELF - Sorry to hear about your bil. Sounds like he needs lots of prayers.

I talked to sis last night. BIL's fever down, but he now has irregular heartbeat and they are playing with his meds. Hopefully he'll be home by Thursday. They want him to rest a week and then start rehab.

Okay! That's it. I've had enough, Gotta go! If I missed anyone, I'm sorry, I'll catch you another time.

Take care, Shirley

Ok-Monday is over, but Tuesday really stunk too! I made an appointment with a new gynocologist since the one I've been seeing is pushing retirement and I thought I should try out one of his younger partners. Did as Sef suggested, and made a sheet with my med history and long list of prescriptions. First, he kept me waiting for 1 1/2 hours and was WAY too CHIRPY when I finally got in there. He complained about his "emergencies" that were really just over-wrought, under-informed pregnant moms who had messed up his schedule. (subtext- hysterical women). I suggested maybe he should have specialized in forensic pathology in med school. He didn't think that was real funny, but the nurse sure did. That resulted in a rather painful internal. When I gave him my med list and history sheet, he said " boy, you're pretty serious about yourself!!!!" Guess I'll try another doctor. What a jerk. I didn't even ask any of the questions I'd wanted to he made me sooo mad:mad: . Like why is TOM 5 days late when I've had PMS for 2 weeks and feel like a swelled up tick? Gosh, can't imagine why the scale # isn't going down! No, I'm definitely NOT PREG! The last one took 6 years of trying and I'm 47 now, and hubby's snipped. Gosh, didn't you all want to know that? I came home and wanted to eat the contents of the house, but ended up just smelling ice cream and a chocolate bar- really! Then hit the exercise bike for an extra 30 minutes in case any of the fat and sugar molecules had gone up my nose.
Deep breath---
I hope you've all had a better day.

Deb- Rhubarb is a reddish pink really tart stalk vegie with toxic leaves. It makes great pies, crisps, jams, but requires it's weight in sugar to be edible. Also good with strawberries. I'm not sure any substitue sweetener would do the trick. Thanks for the tip about re-processing tahini. I keep mine in the fridge and it always separates, so that 3/4 of the way down the jar, I need a chisel to use it.

Melf- I was drooling by the time I finished reading your post about the restaurant. I love ME food. Not many good restaurants out here in the burbs, so I have to cook it if I want it. Kind of takes the fun out of it. What was in those grape leaves? I put a mixture of lamb, rice and raisins in mine, but haven't made them in a long time. Don't know how they'd taste w/o the rice and raisins...

Solshine- Boy is that infuriating! But at least they love you!!! I'm sure that something will happen quickly for you now. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.:)

TV- Congrats to your kids and to YOU for making it through the season. What's next? do they play ice hockey? We get the winter off, then Andrew plays spring soccer and Amy's lacrosse season starts in March-brrr. Won't get to too many of her games this year, since she only plays in the Phila. area twice. The rest of her games are either in Ohio, and at Vanderbilt, Duke, and UNC and Notre Dame.

BOB ( I think it was BOB) What is the vegemite supposed to be a substitute for? All I could think of was last summer when dd played in the Women's Lacrosse World Cup in England for Team Canada, she complained that every morning there was a big vat of vile smelling stuff that the women from the English and Scottish teams ate on toast. She finally asked what it was (marmite) and tasted it and said it tasted even worse than it smelled. At some point, the Australian team complained that they wanted vegemite, not marmite, so another big, vile smelling vat appeared. She passed on tasting that. But the Australians seemed to love it, and came in second in the tournament. The Brits came in third, so I guess vegemite must be better. The Canadians ate Captain Crunch and came in fourth. The American team wins no matter what they eat.

Nascar- Glad you had a good second day. I gotta admit, I've never seen the attraction of watching cars go around in circles, but I sure know who Alan Jackson is! And yes, you do look like Brooke Sheilds!

Hello to everyone else- enough of Mel's rants for the day.. I will try to be in a better mood tomorrow.

TREE- The Orlando Convention Center is on International Drive, and there are tons of restaurants there. I think there is a trolley that goes up and down I Drive, so you can catch it to get where you want. What hotel are you staying at. The Peabody is right across from the convention center.

To all who were interested in the picnic, the poached salmon is simple. Just cook skinless salmon filet in simmering chicken broth to which you have added some garlic, onion, black pepper and lemon slices. Simmer with the veggies for about 5 minutes before adding the fish, and simmer the fish 8 to 12 minutes, or until just done. Put fish in a bowl and pour in some of the poaching liquid and store in fridge.
I serve this with a low cal mayo mixed with equal parts lemon juice, white wine, and a little garlic powder and 1 tsp paprika. Mix with fork until all is smooth. It is a lovely accompanyment.

Fillise--Again, thanks for the info. on the church parking. We’ll get there later in the afternoon. I had to laugh at your e-mail about the Gators going on a diet. Especially because of my posts after the games. You were too funny. I have only seen the Gators “in person” once so far this season, and that was the Marshall game. They did look awesome, tho, in person, AND on TV. Their quarterback is pretty talented, but I hope he doesn’t get a big head.

BOB--If we get through FSU undefeated, that UF-UT game otta be something! I’m glad I’m gonna be there.

Mel--Maybe you are having what they call perimenopause. Kind of like a pre-M. You miss a period every so often, but that is about it.

SolShine--Is your job opportunity at the last place you interviewed? I know about the place downtown that was a possibility, but I’m assuming that this place where they are fighting over you is not that one. Is it the one near where you live? Hope you get a definite starting date by Friday.

Well, I’ve got to go finish packing. The company left this afternoon, and I have a few more things to do. My hubby is at a late meeting, so we will prob. be up late. Have a great weekend, all you losers. And I MEANT THAT. I want all you to lose something this weekend so you will have a big smile on Wednesday.

Just cathing up on Today's posts.

MEL - Your post made me laugh and wince. I know what you mean about gynos who are jerks. I hope that you will let him and your previous gyno know about your experience today. Don't just leave without letting them know why.

I started with a new gyno in June and I LOVE him. I now know what a good and caring doctor is! I knew all along that the former doc was not what I needed. This new one proved me right! Much luck in finding a new one. Keep the faith that there are good ones out there.

Let me know what you are looking for in the way of knee info. Exercises? Do's and Don'ts? Just point me in the general direction and I'll do my best.

SEF - Glad that you are pleased with your doctor. Your post also made me smile. You have a gift with the written word. This Georgia Peach knows who Alan "way down yonder on the Chattahoochee" Jackson is! I have spent many a summer in that red clay river! He is a keyuuuut-ee!

NASCAR - Another Georgia girl! I know where P'tree City is. On I-85 on the Lewis Grizzard Highway! I have a funny story about nearby Shannon Mall that I will have to tell sometime. That area is really growing! Newnan used to be Exit 8, the McStop exit. Never stop there anymore, don't eat at Mickey D's! I may have already told you that I am from Columbus, my sister lives in Loganville. Are you originally from GA? Your picture is just beautiful! A peach fo-sho!

FILLISE - Just keep me posted. Congrats on your smaller britches! What was that about smooching?

SOL - Good luck with the job! SO glad to know that they want YOU. Pray. What is meant to be will be. I'm pulling for ya!

Gotta run.

Goodnight all! and Good luck tomorrow! I've got everything crossed!

Peace,
Frog

Hi everyone

My Thanksgiving dinner went off well on Sunday. Had to have it a day early as I was working the evening shift on Monday. I didn't stay entirely op but didn't do too bad. I had just a small spoonful of stuffing and a wee bit of trifle. Apart from that everything was legal. We had turkey, brussels sprouts, squash, coleslaw, green salad and spiced converted rice. I only had about a quarter cup of rice. I did have a couple of glasses of wine. I planned on having red wine but my daughter can't drink it as it gives her a migraine. So we decided on the white. It was quite funny really. My #2 son doesn't usually drink wine but he was drinking it that evening. This wine happened to be sweet (I'm no wine connoiseur and just pick up any bottle I like the look of). So son #1 was laughing his head off saying "look at those two that don't eat sugar. They sure can't get enough of that sweet wine down." It tasted really good :dizzy: I had a day off to-day and managed to get in a little bit of exercise. I did about 3 miles on the stationery bike. I hope to start swimming again soon as my knee is healed. The weather has been a little cooler here the last couple of days. To-day it was in the low fifties. A couple of days ago they had some snow flurries where my dd lives which is about 10-15 miles north of here. We certainly don't need that stuff yet!

Meliris - I laughed at your story about the vegemite/marmite. You're quite the comedienne  Too bad your doctor's visit didn't go so well. He sounds like a real jerk.

Sef - Sounds like you had better luck than Mel with your new doctor.

Melf - You had me drooling with your description of your visit to the ME restaurant. If you do make the falafels try Deb's taratour sauce. It's easy to make and delicious with the falafels. Let me know how you like the chana dal.

Solshine - That's great news that they love you and want you. I just hope they decide to fill the position and put you in it. I hope you get a definite answer soon.

Viv - Thanks for the article. Isn't it so darn annoying that they always group SB with high protein or low carb diets. And the articles are usually written by people who have never even read the book so just don't know what they are talking about

Fillise - Way to go on the size 20 pants. It's always a great feeling to go down a size or two.

TV - You must be feeling very proud of your son and I am sure he is on cloud nine.

Frog - Looking forward to seeing some pictures of "Elvira".

Good luck to everyone for WIW.

Nite.

Marie.

Unfortunately you probably will be joining the Saggy Skin Club, along with me and Debbie, for a while, but hey! it's better than the alternative. ;)

Mel
I enjoy reading your posts. You have such a colorful way of writing. Thanks for the compliments. It was interesting to read your insights on weight/clothes sizes. When I was a teenager the only thing that mattered was the number on the scale. I have been doing weight training for about three years now, and more earnestly (off and on) since Jan 2000. So I have a HECK of a lot more muscle tone than when I was 16 and starving myself.

Body for Life is a kind of commercial-and-yet-spiritual type program designed by Bill Phillips, a bodybuilder. It's a simple program involving specific nutrition and exercise that produces fast, safe results, so they say. They are sponsored by EAS who makes supplements and so offer cash prizes for a 90-day transformation if you enter it.

You can find more information at:

http://www.bodyforlife.com

http://leanandstrong.com

and there is also a thread on this forum that doesn't get as many posts as this one:

http://64.119.161.199/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9898&perpage=10&pagenumber=1

Here are some VERY specific photos of the moderator, Mrs. Jim. She used to weigh 265 pounds so you are going to be amazed when you see those pictures (it's hosted on Geocities so I don't know if you'll be able to access the page ugh). What massive arms!

http://www.geocities.com/kcanzoneri/BFLChangesphotos.html

Anyway, I'm giving this program a whirl. I still totally agree with the concept of limiting refined sugar, but telling myself I can never ever eat sugar is setting myself up for rebellion.

BOB
Glad the gym is working out for you (so to speak) it's great fun once you get started!

Tree
Mmmmm dark beer! Yummy. Back when I was pretending to be rich, I loved to go have a Dunkles (sp?) beer at Gordon Bierch in the Aloha Tower Marketplace. I hope giving up beer doesn't have to be FOREVER, but I can't drink alcohol because of a medication I'm on. Which is good, I'm dizzy enough as it is! ;)

Dragon lady
I was laughing at the passage about sleep disorders, but how horrible that it really happens!

Froggie
Yep, Hawaii is definitely different from Alabama. In case I never mentioned, I was born in Hawaii, but we went to visit my father's family in Alabama. We got stuck for 8 years, and moved back when I was 16. In the meantime living in the projects in a small Alabama town, with no money, was quite the adventure. There were some good things though. I'll think of them later.

TV
You have quite the flair for writing too. I loved reading the story of Justin's victory. I felt like I was there! And congrats to him again. I used to hang on to clothes in all sizes but finally got rid of the ridiculously small sizes and kept everything in a size 12. I had that "magic suitcase" of clothes forEVER before I finally fit into them, and now they are too big!!!!!! I made a promise to stop buying clothes that are too small on purpose, I used to do that ALL the time. But (confession time) I did indulge in 2 pairs of Levis in absolutely perfect condition at Goodwill because they were only $1.66 each!!! I had to have them. I think they are both 5s but of a very different cut. Of course I don't nearly fit into them (although with a crowbar and jack I managed to get them buttoned), but I needed a little inspiration.

Nascar Girl
Thanks for sharing your picture, you look very elegant and professional in your suit!

Susan
Way to go on those size 20 jeans and the red jacket! Hot mama!!!

Debbie
I guess you'd have to see me to understand why I don't wear anything clingy, or as I say, lays on the fat. You're lucky you are young and haven't been through the ups and downs of yo-yo dieting to lose the elasticity in your skin-you'd understand more so Good going on the scale, 145 is great! I give you a lot of support for doing the BFL, I doubt I could tackle that.
I've been thinking about what you said as I've gone about my work today and you're totally right, I couldn't understand. I mean I'm worked up in knots about the failure of skin to act like skin should, just on my belly. So I apologize for saying what I did. You look really good in your pictures!

Oops!! Martin's coming to pick me up. The chain broke on my bike. Gotta go!

Love,

Chris

Sorry I missed chat tonight, but my Mom is here for the night & it was a rough day for her, so I made a special effort to make a nice supper & spend some quality time with her.

As some of you remember, my Mom went into the NH back in May & it was a very difficult time for me. She has Alzheimer's even though her memory is still pretty much intact for the most part, other things are not good at all, like her speach. She grasps for words & now I am noticing that her memory is not as good as it was. She's more easily confused about things than she has been. Anyway, she called my sister earlier today & got angry with her & hung up on her which is not typical of my Mom. Then she called my sil & asked her to come pick her up as she could not stay at the NH any longer. I finally tracted her down after getting wind of all the events of the day & asked her to come spend the night. I went to pick her up.

She is determined that she is going to leave the NH & go live with my youngest brother who just moved into her house. I don't think it's going to happen, but that's what she has her mind set on. After much talking with her, I believe that a few things have cause all this to come about. One being all the news about the WAR. She is frightened. Another thing was that my db had mentioned in the past that she could move in with them if they did come back here to live, but things have changed & I just don't think that will happen. Anyway, she is finally asleep & seemed to be in a better mood after I talked with her. I sure hope things look better in the morning.

Now for a few replies...

Nascar Girl Welcome to the board!! You sure have come to the right place for support. These gals here are great. Your first day huh?? You have made the right choice with this woe.I think it's the best. Thanks for posting your pic! Debbie is right, there sure is a Brooke Sheilds resemblence. You talked about Alan Jackson being from your town & the concert he puts on at the high school? Strange coincidence in that Sammy Kershaw is from Kaplan here & comes to put on a concert at the KHS every May, I think it's always around Mother's Day & the proceeds go to different children "causes" in the area. I have never attended, as it is not my style of music, but it is well attended every year.

FILLISE, So glad to hear that the reunion went well. It is wonderful that you will get to visit with Frog. Hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation. Girl, what better reason could there be to go do some shopping than to buy smaller clothes! New sweater sounds fabulous & size 20 slacks...you go girl!! That is super!

jmuir Good to hear that you are back on track.

TVthatsME I know what you mean about Monday morns...I hate when I'm in that kind of mood too. But hey, it's better to get it off your chest. Vent away girl...it might prevent an ulcer later on. LOL Glad to hear today was better for you. What an exciting game for a proud Mom. Too bad they didn't win the next game as well, but I'm sure it was because they were too pooped! They must have been really excited with that win though.

Welcome back Miss Grace!! We've missed you. Was thinking about you the other day as a matter a fact! I do hope that you'll feel much better after detoxing from the sugar. That should make you feel much better. The delima you described with the jeans is kind of stange, but your explaination of why was too funny :D I like the idea of calling the new board "MY STORY" & letting each person put there own catchy title.

SPARKLESCAMP, Glad to see you posting again. We're missed your active presence. Also glad to hear that you are getting back to the gym. You've worked too hard to just give up on all this!

lizery Yes, it is hard when the scale is not moving, but if the clothes are fitting looser, then that is a sure indication that you are making progress!! Keep it up girl. That scale will move. :D

Meliris Frost??? already?? my gosh, the next thing we know there will be snow again up your way! Well, I guess it's inevitable, huh? Where does the time go?? Sounds as though you were definitely NOT impressed with your new GYN, or should I say your LAST GYN? LOL You're right to find another if he makes your blood boil so easily. :D The grape leaves had a little rice & I believe veggies in them. Whatever it was, I ate it without a second thought...it was delish!!

Bob I LOL when I read your note to Gator about you standing up & yelling unheeded instructions at the TV. Could just about envision the whole screen. :D Hey BOB, with all the exercise at the gym, I'll bet you're starting to see some results, eh???

BusDeb So glad to hear that you had a better day today without that nasty headache.

Tree, Read that you are going to be going to Orlando. Hope you get the chance to meet SolShine & GatorGal. dh & I met with them for lunch this past June while we were vacationing in the area & they are both SUPER GALS. If you look at the photo board, you'll see that I posted a couple of pics of that meeting. It was like we were old friends. We sat & chatted over a 2 hour lunch & left there with very fond memories of both those beautiful ladies.

dragonlady Very interesting article about the nocturnal eating. I  at your comment at the end.

VIV, Sorry to hear that you are still having issues concerning your dad. Thanks for posting that site & article. You're right, I too wish they would quit labeling SB as a high protein diet because we certainly are not. We do eat healthy, & a well rounded diet, only leaving out those bad carbs that don't agree with our figure.
Solshine, Great that they want you for that job, here's hoping they will make up their minds about the position very soon!

music teach/Tina, That's a real easy one for me to remember...I have a daughter that lives in Dayton, Texas...she loves music & her name is Tina aslo!! how's that for putting your name to memory? LOL

Debbie, Yes, it was BABA GANOUSH & KIBBE. Wonderful stuff. The falafel mix I bought is TARAZI. It was $2.99 for a 16 oz box which makes 8 servings. Haven't made it yet, but I'm sure we'll love it. No, I must have missed the post that you talked about making the taratour for the falafels. I'd love to hear about it & also would like the recipes that you plan to send Rosalie to use the tahini. I will talk to my friend Linda & get more details about her plans. Will email you the info. So sorry I missed chat tonight :(

SEF, Congratulations on the 2 lb loss. What a nice BD surprise, huh??? HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY!!!

ROSALIE, I guess I just enjoyed that meal so much that I couldn't stop thinking about it. Sounds like several people on the board had the same response...LOL I sure will try that sauce that Debbie talked about as soon as I get it. Can't wait!

Thunder, Where are you?? I missed seeing you on the board & missed chatting with you today!!! Please don't stay away too long. Hope all is ok. Or is it because dh is still home? If so, I understand. ;)

Good night all

Solshine - I love rhubarb! To cut the bitterness w/o too much sugar, a lot of people combine it with strawberries. It gets sweeter as it blends over the next couple of days. My favorite was a crisp, but that recipe needs serious modification. Good luck on the job front!

Sparklescamp-don't think of it as cutting out sugar- think of it as using alternative sugars. Who wants to be in the mainstream anyway?!

TV-I still have that magical suitcase. Let me tell you a story! After WW when I lost 10#, I put on an old pair of jeans. I was so happy! Alas, my DH came up behind me, and tucked his hands in the back pockets! RIIIP! :o That's Arizona, dry heat, dry rot..... I still have the suitcase, but it's going to goodwill soon. Not the dry-rotted stuff!:)

Nascar girl- Great pic. Nice clothes!

SolShineand Gatorgal- I'm at the Peabody Hotel (there were no other hotels avail, and work was paying! :D otherwise it would be Comfort Inn). I'm hoping to take tea with the Peabody Ducks. I am very easy to feed, I like anything. I love cuban food, which is hard to get here. Any restaurants that you recommend? I would love to meet you all. I will be arriving on Thursday night 10/18, taking an exam on Friday, post-graduate course on Sat/Sun, then the meeting from Mon to Thurs AM. Yeah, it's non-stop! The best days for me are Fri or Sat night to meet up. Would that work with anyone's schedule?

Meliris - Take it from me. I work in a clinic. They should not keep you waiting that long! I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but they should at least try to reschedule you. I think the most I ever waited was an hour-but that was for a specialty doc, and he was supposed to be the best in town. Definitely write a letter to the clinic-that gets the most notice (it does go in your file though, so be firm, but nice). Otherwise, you're just an irate person of the day. At least your med list will also go in your file, and someone does have to review it. Regarding TOM, stress also causes irregular menses (personal experience), and so does a significant drop in calories (info I studied in college). And perimenopause too- per GatorGal.

Btw, which is the lesser of the two evils? :?:
fat-free or low-fat w/ increased sugar grams
vs
regular stuff w/ less sugar grams.
My quandary was cottage cheese. I bought both.

Gotta go. Early day at the office.

Good Wednesday Morning!

Got in my walk/jog this morning, windy here today, but at least no rains!

Don't have much time to post this morning, so please, forgive me for being brief. Eli is off today and I have to get ready to go. We have a lot of little errands run, which includes dropping my car off for new tires, a/c to be fixed and my passenger window that won't go down. Not sure where we'll end up today, but have to make sure we're back in time to get Lauren from school. Tonight I have Academy Night at Michael's school, so I won't be around much later as well. I guess I'll have a lo of catching up to do sometime tonight or tomorrow morning!

Well, as I suspected, WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY has no good news for me! I'm up 2lbs from last WIW and up 4 from my all time low! That sure does royally suck! I know part of it has to be that I've been playing DOOKIE HOUSER for 3 days now-maybe that's why my hazel eyes are now turning brown! LOL! I hope you all faired better on the scale than I did today!!!

Thanks to all of you who came out for chat last night-I always enjoy this little piece of time with you-even if it does get a bit hectic in there at times;)

Okay, I MUST run now-again, I'll reply to everyone sometime later tonight, I hope, otherwise, tomorrow morning-which, by the way, is RECIPE DAY TOMORROW so if you have any good SB LEGAL RECIPES you'd like to share, please, try to post them tomorrow.

{{{HUGS}}} to you all!!!

Enjoyed chat last night!

WIW- 175/152/13?. Down 1 since last week, but I've been up and down and up more and down more, then up again....so not a great victory. I've lost that particular pound at least 12 times.:(

Gotta run to work, late already! May post more later. bye.

Well this morning I have lost that pound I had gained last week. At least I was not up another pound. I need to see the scales going down....so I am about to reevaluate some things. I will let you know how it goes.

OK - for WIW I am staying even again. That is good because I was actually up by 2 over the weekend, so I have settled back down now. 159/146/125 since 6/4/01

Sorry I missed chat last night. I got caught up in doing stuff around the house and Justin had LOADS of homework that required my help and I just totally forgot!!!

AND - yes, I am a very proud Mom (I guess it is apparent). If there is only one thing in the world that I can be sure of it will be that my kids will never doubt that their Mommy loves them and would do anything for them. I want them to be strong, but yet tender hearted. They are my life.

HAPPY B-DAY SEF!!!!!!!! This is just for you:

Oh Shirley, if you only knew,
How much we all think of you,
There would be no need to say,
Cause you would know anyway,
That we all wish you the happiest day!!

Today is a big one (65) for you!
But for me and all of the crew,
Your looks sure don't show it,
We would never know it,
Except when your wisdom shines through!!

Have a GREAT ONE :)

Mel - dump that doc - he sounds like a real jerk!! I don't understand why some people even get in the business of medicine when they can't even treat people with respect!!

NASCAR - I'm a big fan too! Not as big as previous years though. I was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan and have not been much into it since Daytona this year. Who is your favorite driver? My dh and I get Bristol tickets every year and we live pretty close to Talledega and go quite often.

Deb - I think that is why I haven't used my agave yet - I know that if I bake something good that I will scarf it all down like a wolf!! However, I am intending to try some PB cookies with it this weekend!! Next week is TOM, so I know I will be wanting something sweet - at least I'll have something legal around!

Melf - an ulcer?!?! Been there, done that!!! I actually had my first when I was only 12 years old. I used to hold all emotions in but I had to learn to lash out from time to time to keep those stomach juices from eating me alive!! It just goes against my nature to be mean (not the right word, but you get the picture) - but the older I get the less of a problem that seems to be. I don't have the patience that I used to and I seem to "unload" much more frequently!! Oh well, at least my ulcers have healed!!

Sparkle - you make me laugh with the "dry rotted" jean story! That would be just my luck to finally be able to get back into an old favorite pair and them fall apart at the seams!!

Gotta run-

Okay, I’m up ½ lb., but not surprised. I haven’t been getting my water in and my carb intake has been too high a % of my day. I’m certainly going to tighten up there. I don’t want to have to keep battling the same pound as MEL so dearly put it!

I went to the gym this morning and did my weights. My left heel is giving me fits on the outside part of the heel. Anyone ever have that problem? If I step wrong my whole ankle feels like it’s going to collapse on me and there’s a shooting pain. If I walk or stand okay then it’s like nothing is wrong. Any ideas?

WARNING: THIS IS A VENT – YOU MAY SKIP THIS PART OF THE POST IF YOU WISH :D Still no word on anything. I sent out a few more resumes yesterday, so hopefully there’ll be something soon. If not we’re going to have to start dipping into our savings – which, thank God, we have, but that would be the last thing we want to do. I went and got some books on budgeting and living on a shoestring budget yesterday. Thankfully we already live debt free so there’s at least no credit card bills or such that we have looming over our heads. Money aside, I need to get out of the house and feel productive. Just sitting looking at ads all day – espeically pretty days like today – is really hard. I’d much rather be working at a job or working in the yard. Oh, well. I’m hoping to be doing the happy dance soon. Just venting……….

Took the rhubarb pies over to our friend's last night. Several of the people there had never had rhubarb pie before and they loved it. One guy, bless his heart, didn't like it at all and had no poker face. I could tell he felt really bad, but thought it tasted really bad. I told him over and over again to not apologize, that it is a unique flavor and the pie was for Jim anyway and he's the only one who HAS to like it. ;) I didn't even have the piece of crust that fell off one of the pies. They had a whole pie left over so Jim will be able to continue enjoying his rhubarb pie for a little while. I'm glad I made 2 pies or he would have only had that one piece for his birthday.

SEF – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Good news from the Dr.! Isn’t it nice when a “professional” notices and compliments your new healthy lifestyle?

MEL – So sorry that you didn’t have a good experience at the gyno. At least you gave the nurse something to giggle about. :) I’m a firm believer in doing whatever it takes to see a great Dr. that you feel comfortable with. I drive quite a ways for my Endocrinologist, but I absolutely love her style. She never rushes me and takes as long as I need to answer my questions TO MY SATISFACTION and I don’t usually have to wait very long for her either. We had an Austrailian exchange student one year and he proudly brought his vegemite to school eager for everyone to try it – thinking he had the “cool” sandwich spread for us…..ABSOLUTELY NO ONE LIKED IT!! Poor kid. He was a good sport about it, but I could tell he was disappointed. Kinda like us TRUE SOUTHERNERS can’t believe some people don’t like good BBQ. I had to LOL at the same pound moving in and out! I’ve got 2 that keep coming back to join the pack!

MELF – Okay now I’m STARVING for some of all of what you mentioned!! So sorry to hear about your mom. It’s got to be so hard to become dependent on others when you’ve been independent for so long. When we’re younger we don’t really notice people getting older (‘cause everyone is old then! ), but to see our loved ones, especially those we’re closest to get older and needing more help can be heartbreaking. My prayers go out to you and your family while your mom adjusts to her new situation.

TREE I have plans for Friday night but surely can do for Saturday night! I’ll e-mail you and GatorGal and we can work out the details without having to bore everyone else. Bahama Breeze is, well, Caribbean food and it’s awesome!! I’ll check for Cuban – I’m sure there’s something down there – they don’t call it “International Drive” for nuthin’ :D Of course we have to take pictures to post for everyone, too!

I know I didn’t get to everyone, sorry! Have a great day, though!!

Well, amazingly enough, I forgot to weigh in this morning. I was in a bit of a rush (overslept). So I will do it tomorrow and let you know.

Wrok is very slow today, not alot going on. I hate slow days. They go by so much slower.

SEF - Happy Birthday (again). Sorry I got the day wrong.

Mel - Sorry to hear about the doctor. I know how unsettling it is to have one that doesn't listen to you. An ex-doctor that I had told me to up my dosage of one med I was taking even after I told him that it made me sick. Hello, anyone listening to me? It's my body, I know what's going on. But keep looking, there are good doctors out there and it makes all the difference when you find a good one.

I tried this popcorn yesterday. I'm hoping it is legal becuase it was relly good. The nutrional information said it had only 4g of carb when popped. I liked it because it satisfied my sweet craving because it has sucralose in it. Does this sound okay? I really hope so.

Well, I'm off to lunch. I'll check back in later.

WELCOME to the new kids on the block this is the best block online for support and information. And this is the best WOE!!!

Solshine it sounds like you have a bone spur you need to have it checked out.

Mel good luck with finding a new doctor I would have told that other one to take a hike up a steep mountain. We need someone that cares about us not just about making money. It sounds like he will be losing money and soon! Hope they make up their mind soon on the job, it makes it frustrating when they can't make up their mind.

Well better quit while I'm ahead. Sorry I missed chat last nite we were so tired we went to bed at 7:30.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEF!!!!
Frog Lover - yep I'm a GA peach! We moved here from New MExico when I was 3 so I have been raised here all my life. I know all those places you mentioned well! Although it has grown up a lot here since the lonely McD! (It's now at the Moreland Exit.) You wouldn't believe this place now!

TV - Love those races, Bobby Labonte is my driver, dh was a DW fan and now since he retired he chose Casey Atwood. We are going to Talledega on the 22nd! And we go to the August Bristol race every year too! Also, we were at the 500 when Dale was killed, so sad. We go every year to that too. Who knows maybe we can hook up at one of the races!

Tree - What these old rags! LOL! Thanks for the compliment!

Meliris - Once you go to a race you will be hooked. It's the need for Speed that gets ya! Unreal!! It's a lot of fun!! Non stop action !! Gotta try it!

Well better get back to work!
Will try to post tonight!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEF!!!!

The scales were kind today. I lost 2 more pounds. I set a goal of 20 pounds gone by October 26. That's when I see any of my family since I started SB. My brother (from Huntsville, AL TV!) will be making a trip to Fayetteville to see the UofA vs Auburn game. My baby girl and I are flying up for the weekend. I haven't seen my ds since she took me to Mexico, dm since Aug. 14, and dd since the first of the summer. Haven't seen my db from AL in a couple of years. The visit will be short but sweet.

I said this last night in the chat room, but want to give myself a pat on the back to all you other gals, if that's okay.
I SURVIVED "DONUTS FOR DAD" at school yesterday!!!!! Walmart donated about a trillion dozen donuts for the kids to eat breakfast with their fathers. I didn't have a single, little, bitty bite of a donut. Didn't even want one! That's the most amazing thing about this WOE. The cravings for the sugary things of the past are gone. The moms put the leftovers in the teachers' lounge, a huge box that probably held 10 dozen donuts. There were still donuts left after school and I still didn't want one. Just ate my peach and was satisfied.

Today is Fair Day for our school district and I decided not to venture into Dallas this year. Those state fair corny dogs are calling my name, tho. I only eat one whenever I go, but then I find the gyros, the shrimp on a stick, the candy apples, and so on and so on. And the weather is predicting storms to move in about 3:00 so I'd rather hang out here at the house and enjoy a day of relaxation.

Fil: So glad to hear you are enoying your vacation/reunion. Congrats on the new sizes. I can relate. I'm beginning to put on clothes that were a little on the tight side in August and are now almost too big to wear. It is truly a wonderful feeling.

TV: Congrats on ds's teams accomplishments. Brings back so many good memories. How close to Huntsville are you? My db works for Englehardt (?) and my sil is working at the University. They've been there about 15 years. She grew up there and he's lived there that long. I think they live just east of town but don't know the name of the community. They are building a big, new house, tho, and I can't wait to see it.

Sparkle: Just went to your website and read your story. You have really come a long way. Congratulations on making your life a success. Keep your head up. Maybe we can meet next summer.

Bee, VA: I'm thinking about you two and hoping things are going ok.

Sol: Keep thinking positively about the job. The right one will come along real soon, I just know it.

Melf, Deb, Rosalie: All this talk about ME (I finally figured out that means middle eastern!) restaurants is making me want to find one in this area. I have no clue what you guys are talking about but am always game to find new tastes.

I'm going to try to attach a pic of my dds before their dances last week. Here goes:

Hope everyone has a great middle of the week. Check y'all later.

Hello lovely ladies!

Jmuir
I’ve been going to the ladies’ room about ten million times a day too. Cutting down on food intake the first few days and increasing water at the same time can have practical considerations. ;) What’s it like living in Atlanta? For some odd reason (probably GWTW) I’ve always wanted to live there.

SolShine Soooo good to hear from you!! Now that we know you’re struggling when you aren’t posting ---- better be watching that e-mail! Oh great. Now every time I get busy everybody will think I’m stuffing my face with marshmallow peeps. ;) But the contact on these boards makes ALL the difference to me so I’m glad I can stick around on occasion.

Did you buy a book called the Tightwad’s Gazette or something like that? If you didn’t, let me know. I have a lovely hardcover edition that I would like to give to you. Also I need your street address, you can email it to me. Her ideas are a little extreme but she has some great tips and is also an inspiration for leading a NON-consuming lifestyle.

Melbut ended up just smelling ice cream and a chocolate bar- really! Then hit the exercise bike for an extra 30 minutes in case any of the fat and sugar molecules had gone up my nose. Deep breath You are too funny! And coping well, what an inspiration. Doctor definitely needs dumping. I have a LONG history with doctors and don’t have too many horror stories considering. I have Kaiser and am very happy with it.

Mary
Sorry to hear about your Mom, and thanks for the words of encouragement!

Happy Birthday and many more to come!SCAMP - Love to see your posts. Being top heavy can be a drag. My dil is not a big, but she has two canteloupes. She's an F cup, so has problems with clothing too. Is she buys something 2 piece they pieces have to be able to be bought separately. Too too funny!!!!!!!! I only have mosquito bites over THERE!!!!! I used to wear a 38 – 40 C cup bra, but since losing weight they are disappearing at an alarming rate. The good news is that I can run without a bra. When I was heavier I had lots of fat on my shoulders, back, sides, belly and less on my non-existentass and legs. That’s what I mean by top-heavy (like an ice cream cone – no boobs!) ;)

TV
I love your poems!!!!!

BTW, I was not the one with the dry-rotten jeans but I was the one who originally (I think) talked about "The Magic Suitcase."

Rhonda
Nice to hear from you. I hope you feel better. I have been battling depression for several months now and am DETERMINED not to let it get the better of me after coming this far, and I would say the same for you as far as how much progress you have made. So chin up girl! And if you would like to talk more about the subject privately my email is chris@shapeshakers.com.

Jeanie
Thanks very much for the compliment/encouragement, it means a lot to me that you read my story.

After only three days of getting back with the Body for Life program I feel so different. It’s amazing how fast changes can take effect. I have been doing very good with food and keeping up with exercise as best I can. For example yesterday I was late and the chain broke on my bike so I didn’t have time to finish my workout, but I put in an appearance and did what I could. This morning I was feeling sick (my roommate was very sick over the weekend) and didn’t want to exert myself fully so I only did 2 miles on the treadmill at 24 minutes, a slow easy pace. So I felt I got a good workout without killing myself.

A word about the scale I found on the Body for Life thread:

"Me and the Scale - A Cautionary Tale"

I was cleaning out files and ran across my notebook for my first challenge, way back in the spring of last year.

I had forgotten some of the details, but it really does show how, if I had let it happen, the scale readings could have derailed me.

First 3 weeks: Scale weight UP 3 lbs, waist measurement down 1 inch.

First 6 weeks: Scale weight has now returned to what it was to begin with. Waist measurement down 2 inches.

First 9 weeks: At last! Scale down 4 lbs, waist measurement down 3 inches.

12 weeks: Scale down 9 lbs, waist measurement down 4 inches.

Note how the scale hopped all over the place....up 3 lbs....down 3 lbs....down another 4 lbs...down another 5 lbs.

Note also how the tape measure showed utterly consistent improvement: One inch lost every three weeks. Like clockwork.

In the second challenge, a similar thing happened: I lost another 3 inches from my waist, but the scale moved only 4 lbs.

By this time, of course, I didn't give a hoot that the scale showed I had "lost" a lousy 13 lbs in 24 weeks---my waist had gone from 40" to 33" and my hips had shrunk an equal amount, while I had added 2.5 inches to my chest measurement and 1.25 inches to each arm!

The scale has been gathering dust ever since.

I was really worried about the holidays. Last year I gained 20 pounds and felt by January very depressed and out of control. I have been stressing over this for some time because it looked like I was totally losing it there for a while. So I think this Challenge, which will provide a lot of structure and motivation, is going to be a great thing to get me through the holidays with success!

So far, the only blip on the horizon is a mini-vacation I have planned for Thanksgiving weekend. It’s in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, and I got a weekend package, airfare, hotel, room, car, AND whale watching cruise!!! for $200 (but I have to listen to a sales pitch). I was lucky to be able to book on Thanksgiving. I’ve already decided I’m going to totally forget about the plan for those two days, because last time I was on vacation I was so stressed about having to eat off plan. I think we are going to have an awesome time (I am taking my roommate with me).

Wishing everyone a GREAT day!

Love,

Chris

Sorry about that Sparkle - It was Tree that made me laugh about the dry rotten jeans! - although the reference to the magic suitcase was reason enough for a giggle! I guess I have a magic-stuck-in-the-back-of-the-closet-corner!!!!

Mel - I am out of the sports mom business until spring baseball - whew! Unless of course, Justin decides he wants to do basketball this year (I hope not). He is in the boyscouts, so he is still active during the winter with meetings/trips/campouts, etc. but I leave that all up to Dad!!

J Red - I work in Huntsville and have heard of that place, not quite sure where it is. I live in Athens which is just west of Huntsville. Its a nice area here in N. AL!!

Gotta run - again

I just made a big pot of chili. Yeah, it's really fall. I was so careful about tomato sauce and paste with no added sugar, but after it was done, I noticed that the kidney beans had sugar as an ingredient. WHY! Why! Why! The total per serving was only 1 gr., but what in the world is it there for?
I'm gonna eat it anyway, just no other carb.

jmuir- I don't think corn in any form is legal. Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong, cause I'd surely love some popcorn!

Busdeb- Your family's band experiences make it sound like a lot of fun. All I remember from band was really hot itchy green wool uniforms and the ultimate nightmare of being the lone piccolo player marching into oblivion having turned left when everyone else turned right.:o I was a good musician and kept playing flute, but that was my last day in marching band!

Frog- My knees both make crunchy sounds and feel crunchy when I bend then. Kind of sickening. I had an MRI on the left 2 years ago and was told I had a lot of micro-tears in the cartilage, but I won't go for surgery til I'm crawling. So I work on trying to keep the muscles strong by doing squats w/ about 20 lbs, and raising weights w/ my feet while lying on the weight bench. Don't know what this is called. I think I'm probably working my thighs doing all this, more than the correct muscles. Anything you could suggest (except an orthopedic surgeon) would be appreciated! Running doesn't bother me at all, but lateral motion (like when I play tennis) is not good.:(

Deb- I forgot you asked about salmon. Salmon's so great to cook, you can do anything to it and it's good. Some of my favorite ways to prepare it are:
1) sautee (sp?) in skillet w/ a little olive oil, lots of dill (fresh or dried but fresh is best) and a drizzle of lemon juice. 2) grilled ( put it on a piece of foil with a few holes poked in the foil and wrap it lightly), use olive oil, white wine, whatever herbs you feel like throwing in. 3) Baked at 350, with a ginger marinade or wine. Or the previously mentioned poaching recipe. I always make extra so I can have it cold with salad the next day.

jred-Congrats on the pounds gone and surviving donuts for dad. Sounds like you are on target for your 20 pound goal!

Solshine-Boy are you good! I would have had that crust in my mouth just from old habit! I love rhubarb anything, but don't know any way to make it legal. I once had similar heel and ankle pain from a stress fracture in my heel. If it doesn't go away, you should have it checked out. I sure can empathize with you about the job situation and living on a budget- just sick of it! Hubby had a great interview a few weeks ago for a super job with half.com. They loved him and it was all perfect. After the 3rd round of talks, they told him the job was put on hold, but when it was "unheld?" he would have an offer on paper. Today's headlines in the business section were that eBay has swallowed half.com completely and all the employees here are either loosing their jobs or being relocated to Salt Lake City!! I haven't even managed to get an interview anywhere yet.

Sparkle-I checked out the body for life and other sites you recommended. Looked interesting, but I don't think I could do their food thing. Are you doing it? The results and the training process look great! With SB, I can still feed my family the same foods I make for myself, but I really got the impression that the eating part was radically different. Good luck!
Hey, you were answering my questions as I was typing them. I checked out Mrs. Jim's website. hard to believe she only lost 13 pounds given the changes in her physique, so I guess the scale really is pretty useless for those of us doing weight workouts.

Gotta go- have a good evening everybody!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEF! Hope it has been a great day and you have a wonderful evening!

I haven't been doing very well lately. I don't know why I can't get back into the groove and stay away from the problem foods. I'm good for part of the day and then I fall apart. No one can fix this but me, so I better figure out what to do. I'm hoping this weekend to have enough time to sit down and plan a whole week's menu and maybe that will help me stay on track. I've been very bad over summer and up until now with planning meals and decide at the last minute what to have. I know that's the worst thing to do, but it seems the way it is lately. Since my DH changed jobs in July, he doesn't get home until 6:30 or later. I HATE that. He's crabby, too, from the long drive. I HATE that even more. This, too, will pass, I keep telling myself. Meanwhile, I'm not taking time to work on myself. Well, now I've just had a pity party for myself, so it's time to move on.

Sorry I missed chat last night. I keep forgetting about it. I've had too much on my mind last night. My MIL is coming with her daughter this weekend, and I have to prepare myself (and the house) for that. The spare bedroom is a mess since we have a major space problem (if we would quit bringing things home from the store, it wouldn't be a problem:lol: ) so I have to get that cleaned out. The window people are coming tomorrow to hopefully finish up where we had a problem with the wrong casing being installed, and the blinds are being installed on Friday. I also have to make a dessert tonight to take to an open house tomorrow evening. I'll be glad when Sunday afternoon rolls around! I know this doesn't sound like much commotion to some people who have more than one child or a more active social life, but I'm gettin' old and I like to come home and veg for the rest of the evening.

SOL - I'm really rooting for you to get that job! Here's a bunch of good vibes ~~~~~~~~~~ coming your way so you get that job!
Is rhubarb in season for you now? Our season here is May through end of June. I have a terrific recipe for a strawberry/rhubarb coffee cake which I obviously didn't eat this year, although I did make some. I have a big plant in the back and froze enough to make about 10 coffee cakes. I'll probably end up throwing some of them away since I don't make the cake so much any more.

Hey, if anyone is missing the change of seasons and wants some leaves, send me your address. They are beautiful here right now (while they are on the trees, that is). It's not so beautiful when you have to rake them all up! This weekend is peak colors and Madison has trees everywhere (except the new developments) and they are red, and orange and gold and burgundy. This is a great time of year!

Hi to everyone else. I'm still lurking and reading, even though I don't post much right now. I hope that will change in the near future!

Oh jred- they are gorgeos! What beautiful girls you have. I never thought I'd miss those stressed out pre-prom preparations and the endless shopping trips, but I got so nostalgic looking at your girls that I rushed up and stood staring into Amy's still stuffed closet full of sparkly dresses and got all teary eyed. Hope they had a great time!

First things first...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEF!!!!

And now a little ditty ... (Sung to the tune "Waiting on the Robert E. Lee" with the spirit of the WB frog)

"Today is your birthday, your 65th birthday!
Yes your getting older, another year got away
Dont' worry that your hair is gray,
For now just have a happy birthday!"

Rant session starts immediately! DANGER! Will Robinson! DANGER!
This froggy is Hoppin' Mad!! I don't know what to do except keep on trying. I am up 1/2 pound this week and haven't posted a loss since mid-July when I was 149. And no it's not all muscle either because my size 10's are gettin' a bit pinchy! How can I run 9.5 miles, lift weights, and do a speed workout and still post a gain? ... (pause to inhale before ranting more) ... I am finding it hard to be patient. October 31st will be my one year anniversary on SB, I can't believe that I have stalled, then gained since July. I really anticipated being lower than goal by now. Spirits are sinking rapidly!!! Somebody throw me a life line!

On a different note, bought that Elvira wig tonight!! I think hubby is secretly hoping I will wear it, and only it, to bed! :nono:

CONGRATS to all of you who've lost! Keep up the great work.

BelindaWannabe wants you to know that she is still without a computer at home and that she is thinking about y'all. SHe reports that she fell off the wagon over the weekend but has climbed back in the driver's seat. She phoned me last night for a "pep talk." My advice to her was to stop sabotaging herself and to keep the promises she makes to herself with the same determination that she keeps the promises she makes to others. I also told her that when she is not taking care of herself, that she can't give others her best; all the more reason to stick with those promises to herself. I will be happy to share any additional advice you may want to pass along to her. She is able to check her email from work if you'd like to contact her personally.

JRED - what beautiful girls you have! Thanks for sharing your family photos with us.

KAREN - I'm right there with ya on the frustration factor. You're right when you say that this too will pass. Hang tough!

MELF - I am sorry that you are having to experience a rough road. You and Belinda Wannabe are dealing with some of the exact same issues. Her mother was diagnosed with AD several years ago. BW and her sister recently moved their mother into an assisted living facility. Since that time they diagnosed Parkinson's Disease and a brain tumor in addition to the AD! I know that if her computer were working she would be able to lend comfort to you. Nothing in life ever prepares you for something like this, but God doesn't give you more than you can handle. Have faith and hope, and trust in him to guide you through this. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

MEL - Ouch to those knees dah-lin! I would first start avoiding those tasks that you know are painful like tennis. The danger in continuing on with your knees in the condition that you describe is that you are gonna wear out other parts that are compensating for your knees (i.e., hips, ankles, back, etc.) I suggest that you consult with a physical therapist or a certified exercise physiologist regarding ways to strengthen supporting muscles without further damaging your knees. I'll be honest, your condition sounds wretched! Perhaps that knee surgery you are putting off would actually improve your quality of life significantly if you just went on and had it. I will look in my exercise books and see what I drum up for knees like you describe your to be. Fine-Print Disclaimer: Let me also say that I am not a physical therapist, nurse, doctor or in any of those fine careers. I am a speech-language pathologist who has spent a great deal of time treating with physical therapists and I've certainly had them exam my aches and pains. As a result, I know enough info to point you in the direction that may best suit you. I aim to help when/where I can. I do wonder if squats are suited for you because of all the stress it places on that joint. Again, another reason for you to pay the $ to get advice from someone in your area.

SPARKLE - Thanks for the BFL info. Mrs. Jim's pics were amazing. Good luck with that program.

TV - Did you live in H'ville back in the late 80's (89?) when that really bad tornado killed ~19 people in the Jones Valley Road area? I have pictures from that tornado and took an arial tour of the damaged area. Worst thing I'd seen first hand. Knew people who were severly effected by that. Your right, that is a beautiful area!

NASCAR - I'm a NASCAR follower too. Used to be more of a fan than I am now. Have been to 2 races at Talladega and one in Atlanta. It is sooo much more fun to go to them, rather than watching them on tv. I would like to go to Bristol or another small track to see a night race.

SOL - Tell those people to get a move on and hire you!

FILLISE - I'll check the board to see if you've posted. Hope to catch up with ya!

Well I guess that raps it up for me. I'll be XX-tra busy this weekend getting ready for the Monday ladies' night here on Monday. Gotta give it the white glove treatment! SPEWER is coming! and if my house is dirty she'll broadcast it all over town! I gotta pray about this matter with her. Can't let it/her get the best of me.

Have a happy "Little Friday" (That's Thursday to you and me!)

GatoGal and Solshine - I updated my Bio, and I'll send you an email soon.

J Red- Good for you standing up to those donuts! :) Have you heard of Krispy Kremes? They are sooo sugar laden, and people adore them. We get them from time to time (drug reps, patients, other employees), and I have been resisting them! I know if I wait long enough, either they're long gone (to someone else's hips :s: ) or they're stale by the next day.

jmuir & meliris & Debelli- According to the GI Revolution book by Jenni Brand-Miller, corn is allowed. Corn's GI is 55, but high in fiber, and B vitamins. So are new potatoes (GI =56). I wonder if it's like Debelli wrote earlier-you have to look at the GI but also at the GL. Her example was the carrots, they're high GI, but only if you consume 1-1/2# of them :p . So what are the real taboo foods? :?:

btw, I have ???'s about milk. Debelli says she doesn't do milk/cheese often. Is milk, even skim or FF milk a :nono: ? Milk is made up of lactose which is a combo of GLUCOSE + galactose. I have increased my consumption of FF milk since starting SB. Is that "not okay"?

Okay, I'm being nosey but what's the best way to go about SB? How do you all plan your daily meals? Do you count calories, fat grams, WW's point system? Is there a maximum GI consumed per day? I didn't see that but maybe I should read the book again. :spin:

I've had to leave work the yesterday and today. I think I may have the stomach flu, someone at work had it. I stopped the increased whole grain intake that I'd been doing in case that was the culprit. Today, I had a sandwich, and have had cramps all night. Now I'm down to tea w/ fructose. No other symptoms-just stomach cramping + my whole body aches. To ease my DH's mind, have any of you had stomach cramps when you started the diet? Splenda? Fructose? He's concerned.

I had a nice day. Did some shopping, took a nap, went to choir practice (they sang Happy Birthday in harmony).

Since I overslept with that nap, I missed supper, as dil and gd were to church, so had a dish of legal ice cream when I got home. YES!! I had more than a serving, but figured no supper and it's my birthday! I know, I know that's a :nono: I'll be back on track tomorrow!

Took me forever to go through mail. Am tired now so will answer posts tomorrow!

Thanx again.

Morning all! I think I'm having the sugar withdrawls with sinus no gooda! Up at 4 am couldn't sleep! :dizzy: Hope this passes soon!

Tree - The SB book lists milk as a ok food the 1%-2% or skim. I have been having it with cereal Special K or cherrios multigrain. So I think you will be ok. Milk has natural sugar not added sugars. (Go figure I'm a animal science major with dairy science emphasis! I love those moo cows!):D

Frog - A night race is awesome ! I love Bristol it's my favorite! Talledega will be a challenge for me I like my wine any suggestions? I'm not a big drinker but do like it! Read alot about red wine is ok, I'm generally a white zin kinda gal:smug: any suggestions will be appreciated!!

Day 4 starts today; the weekend may be challenging though!

NASCAR - Just curious, why would Talladega be a challenge for you? Regarding wine. I've really developed a liking for Merlot (a mild red). After you've been on SB for a few more days, I would bet ya the White Zin you like will be WAYYYY to sweet for your liking. Amazing how our taste buds change.

Good Morning.....long time no check in....I'm alive. We've been busy working on finances, considering refinancing the house, getting some $$ out to pay off debt, and do some fluff-n-fold around the house. New capreting would be nice for starters!
Lendingtree.com is pretty cool for those of you how are pondering the same thing.

Doing o.k. with my weight....Had gotten up to 228 UGH!!!!, but getting things under control and am down to 224. Started SB weighing 226, and have been as low as 218. Been walking at the park and other places around town. I'm sooooo happy it's finally cooling down her in the desert.

Still been looking for another job, but things have been better around the work place. Meet with another Doctor who said I have a job with him as soon as one is AVAILABLE. He has someone who is going to be leaving when she sells her home, so my future is hinging on th sale of someones home. Go Figure.
Still also trying to get into the school district. Another position just became available that Lara told me about, so I'll have to see what the skinny is!

Sol
I sure hope things work out for you with this job deal. Is this the hospital position???? Curious minds wnat to know.

Good morning everyone.

The scale keeps going back UP! I'm not cheating (thinking about it can't really make me fat, can it?), I exercise fanatically, I don't have Deb's current problem, what is going on here? I'm getting discouraged. If I can't loose this way, I might as well go back to bread and pasta. No, not really, because I know there have been all sorts of other benefits to this WOE, but my initial reasons for starting it was to loose blubber, but it's making me crazy. BTW, I'm going to pretend I didn't see TREE's post about corn and new potatos. I know that for me starchy carbs are such trigger foods that I'd never stop there or stay with reasonable portions. Just me- hats off to those of you who can handle it more sensibly.

Frog- Thanks for your reply to my knee woes, but you KNOW I wanted a magic pill! That's why I keep putting off going back to an orthopod or even a physical therapist. I just don't want to hear bad news! After much thought, I don't realistically see any distances longer that 5 miles in my future- though it would have been really fun to be 'training partners' and run a 1/2 together. I just don't think the old bod will do it.:( I'll just keep slogging away at short distances, intervals, and weights, and tennis. I wrap both knees when I play- looks weird, but works. Good luck to you- no, I know it's not luck, but perseverance and hard work. And I share your frustrations with the scale.

Deb- Where have you been, girl! You must be leading very busy life the last few days, or has Eli had the days off??

Nascar- I second the Merlot suggestion. Also try Syrahs. They are a little dryer, but lighter. I used to be strictly a white wine drinker because I had occasionally had joint pain after drinking red due to the tannins, but now I think that also had something to do with the quantities:lol: I had a few sips of white zin a couple of weeks ago, and like frog said- boy did it taste too sweet!

Tree- I don't plan meals really except to make sure that there is something (usually chicken or fish) thawed out for dinner every day. The only thing I count is # of starchy carbs per day (2), and the amount of sugar in each individual ingredient I use. I try to keep it to 0 or 1, even tho I know 3 is legal. I also try to make sure I get a good dose of protein at each meal, otherwise I get really hungry between. Maybe I should be counting something tho, since after an inital loss of 22 pounds, I've been fighting about 3 pounds that just keep coming back to mama.:?:

TV- We do the Boy Scout stuff, too. Andrew is a second year weebelo(sp?) and yeah- I leave all that to hubby. I was a girl scout leader for dd for 6 years and that was my contribution to scouting. Don't think I could deal w/ boys.

bye everyone, have a great day. Off to get beat up on the tennis court again.

Hey gals - Hope everyone is good!!

Nascar - I have seen where the regular (yellow box) cherrios are the better ones for SB when compared to the multi grain ones. I think it is because there are more sugar grams in the MG. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Frog - glad you are in a better mood this morning.... I think this has been the week for a lot of us and "ranting" - I know I've done my share!

Sef - glad you had a good B-day!

I've got the TOM coming up blues today. I usually have a couple of very emotional days on the Thursday and Friday prior to TOM week..... I'm right on schedule - yuck.

Today is receipe day, right?!? I've been saving this one for you guys this week. I get a receipe for the day by email everyday and most of the time it wouldn't fit into SB, but this one could:

Greek-Style Beef Stew
This flavorful dish is also known as Stifado.

Serves 4

2 pounds Beef stew meat (cubed)
3 Tablespoons Butter
1 medium Onion, diced
1/4 cup Tomato paste
1 1/2 cups Beef broth
1 1/2 Tablespoons Red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon Garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Oregano
1 pound Pearl onions
1/2 cup Walnuts
1/2 cup Feta cheese

Heat the butter in a heavy pot. Add the beef and brown. Add the onion and cook until soft. Add the tomato paste, broth, vinegar, garlic and oregano. Cover and simmer one hour. Add the onions and simmer one more hour. Remove from the heat. Add the walnuts and cheese. Cover and allow to set 10 minutes before serving.

Tree - hope you are feeling better today! Those stomach bugs are terrible and sounds to me like what you have!! I have heard of too many grains causing the (what my dad always referred to as) the "trots", but not as bad as what you described I wouldn't think. Best wishes!

Mel - My Justin is a first year Weebelo. There seems to be a lot of things involved at this level. Glad I let Dad handle that one!!

Frog - yes, in fact I had just gotten on the road that day (should have known better) going to a college night class when the radio said "tornado on the ground in Huntsville". I was heading away from the city and was glad of it. It was still really scary where I was at and I wished 1000 times that I had stayed at work instead of braving the road. They have built that section right back up and it looks great now! I really get into the weather, my friends say that I missed my calling in life, that I should have been a meteorologist (sp?), but I would rather be a storm chaser! My oldest got the same gene and loves it too. He says he is going to be a storm chaser and I told him that he would never get rid of me that way because I would just have to go along with him! I never want anyone to get hurt by these bad storms that we get around here, but they sure are amazing to watch!

CRAP! Was posting a long post and I hit one of those mystery keys that just wiped the whole darned thing out!!!! Here I go again!!!!!

Eli and I had a nice day out yesterday, of course, lunch was at Ole Ole, then Carbolite for dessert, delicious vanilla and white chocolate flavors! We stopped at Walmart to see if they had some Asian pears-they had them posted at 97 cents a pound, where last time, they were 97 cents each-so I filled up 3 bags full of them and took them to the checkout. Gal tries to charge me each, of course, I told her "NO, they are by the pound"-since she spoke no English (only in Miami), she had to get someone else to come, other gal says the same thing, yet both go check the sign and see I am correct-so they called the produce Mgr and he said to give them to me at 97 cents a pound-little did he know I must of had about 30 or so AP's, he'd surely of had a cow!!! So, I'm happy-doesn't take much to make me happy as you can see!! Also, stopped at the HFS, found some OSTRICH SAUSAGE PATTIES, just made 2, they were very good, at least I thought. They are made by a company called BLACKWING, for 2 small patties they have 60 calories, 1/2gr fat, 0 carbs and 12 gr protein. Anyone interested in trying to find them, they have a toll free number 1-800-326-7874.

Got in my walk today, but only did 3.5 miles, and no jogging. Really didn't feel like going to day, feet have been bothering me the last few days. What's this crap? Just turned 40 last week and here the aches and pains are already starting?

I realized today that yesterday was my 4 month GOAL ANNIVERSARY. I guess it was over-shadowed by stepping on the scale last night and seeing it up 7lbs from my low-thank goodness it's back to the same weight it was yesterday morning-but unfortunately, it's still up 4lbs from my all time low:(

SEF, so glad you had a god birthday yesterday-glad you enjoyed your ice cream. What a nice thing to have the choir sing you happy birthday! Oh, those Calvins do fit, just not like when I bought them, from what I can remember, it's been about 5-6 years! Still has the tags on them even. I highly doubt I will ever wear them out, I haven't worn a pair of jeans since I was in high school-just not use to wearing anything other than black leggings. I'm sure the Dr. must of been thrilled to see your weight loss progress! Another dog?? I think that's a great idea. Poodle? I'm a miniature Schnauzer lover myself. So, are you getting one??? Okay, I get that I'm not up on Country Music and knowing who Alan Jackson is-I do know who Michael Jackson is, does that help? LOL! I have that problem with saving crap, but trying to work on that problem as well, first the weight, then on to problem #2-too many of them to decide which to work on next though. Is BIL getting to go home today?

MEL, sounds like the Dr. you went to had no sense of humor-sounds like he would of made a better Undertaker instead! Last time I went to my primary. Dr. they kept me waiting for hours, I finally walked out and haven't been back-I'll change, but it's a pain to find someone new. I had to find a new GYNO when mine retired, then the one I found went with another practice that didn't take my insurance, then had to find another one again-finally found one that I actually liked-but it is a pain, in more ways than one;) Next time you buy the tahini, do the whizzing it around in the food processor trick, you won't have to break the chisel out ever again!

ROSALIE, glad you had a good Thanksgiving. I know the meaning behind our Thanksgiving here in the States, what's the meaning behind it in Canada?? Okay, you had to explain sSPOTTED DICK, how about TRIFLE now?

SPARKLE, no need for apologizing, you didn't say anything wrong:) It's just that I don't think people realize just how bad my body really is, because I hide it under larger tops, long sleeves and pants. Just hope and pray since you are young and haven't had the ups and downs of weight loss for as many years as I have, you won't have the trouble I'm going through!!

MELF, I'm so sorry to hear about the tough time you are having with your Mom, my heart goes out to you. I have no idea what having to deal with something like that must be, but I'm sure it's harder than I could ever realize. I have to thank G-D every day that my Parents are here and doing well, but also have to realize as each year passes they get older and I too many one day be faced with the same challenges that you are going through now. {{HUGS}} to you!! I make my taratour thin, because of course, tahini is quite fattening, but if you like yours thicker, by all means, add a little more tahini to the recipe. When I make it, I make it just for me (I made Eli a normal batch). Take a nice clove of garlic and about 1/2tsp of salt and mash the two together (I use a pestle), then add 2tbl tahini, stir. Add 2 tbls water, stir, then 2tbl lemon juice, stir, and then another 2tbls water. Put in fridge to let thicken a bit before using, a couple hours. I usually will add one more tbl of water, but it's really not necessary. That's it! I'll def. let you know when I get some recipes together using tahini. When I make the falafels, I do them like a hamburger, in a 3ounce portion and then take 1/2tsp of oil and put it in a 6" pan and fry one side, then put another 1/2tsp of oil and do the other side. Wanted one for breakfast this morning, but we actually ran out of bread-a sin in our house to have happen! Have to go to the ME store later and get some more. I too noticed some kidney beans have added sugar, and cant' figure out why as well-next time, read labels, there are some out there that don't contain any sugars. I took my can back to the store when I saw that! Okay, don't worry about the scale going up! PLEASE!! I guarantee you that if you stay OP, it will go down. I can send you a copy of my weight chart and you will see that I had episodes of gains that were ridiculous, but I stuck it out and it came back down!!! In June, I gained 6lbs in one week! It went back down, but of course I didn't like it when it happened, but I knew it was not from anything I did wrong-be patient, it's one of the keys to success!

TREE, I hope you are able to meet up with SOL &/or GATOR when you are in Orlando. Cuban food, you need to come South to Miami-you can have your pick down here! Lesser of two evils..in the case of cottage cheese, I go for the fat free, but in the case of something like salad dressing, I go for full fat. REMEMBER, the sugar grams you see in the cottage cheese are NATURAL OCCURING SUGARS, and unless you see a form of sugar in the ingredients list, there is no added sugar in the cottage cheese, so it's really a matter of preference and taste. As for milk/dairy, please know I just hadn't had any for a week or so and noticed a drop on the scale-don't know if it had anything to do with it or not-but until then for 1 1/2 years being on SB, I had milk and cheese all the time and lost the weight. Some people do have trouble with dairy and weight loss, so you can experiment, if you want, but I am definitely NOT cutting out dairy at all, it just so happened that I didn't have any and this drop on the scale happened at the same time. As for other foods, like corn and carrots, I would say carrots, eaten raw and small amounts would be fine. The corn, I personally will stay away from, as with potatoes as well (except sweet, of course). I'm sure in small amounts, and in moderation, you'd be okay with them, again, you can TRY and see what happens. You have to also remember, should you eat a high GI food and combine it with a low GI food, you will get a moderate GI food. Also, for instance, BEACHFAN ate bananas while she was on SB and made goal-so see how you do on these foods, you can always eliminate them if they bother you. I personally keep a food journal and count my calories, fats, carbs, protein, fiber and calcium-it works for me, whereas others don't log anything and do fine as well. Just find what seems to work for you:) Nope, never had stomach cramps from doing SB. Hope you are feeling better!!!

BUSDEB, good going on getting down that pound! Let us know what you find that needs re-evaluating!

TV, Iloved your birthday ditty for SEF! I bet you could write a great weight loss poem that could inspire many-think about it!! PB COOKIES, yummy! I definitely would eat too many. My only suggestion would be to stick them into the freezer ASAP! Not that you can't go in there, but less likely if they are frozen (who am I trying to fool, I'd eat them frozen!). The one thing I do find that helps me is knowing the caloric and nutritional content BEFORE I eat any of whatever I bake-THEN, once you see that, you can decide just how much to indulge. Let us know how the cookies come out-I love PB!!! The recipe sounds yummy-can you put a copy over on the recipe board so we can archive it?? THANKS!

SOL, if you continue to have foot problems, go see the Dr., you don't want to mess around when it comes to your feet. I'm SURE you'll be scooped up real soon-there's a reason for everything, I believe, so continue on doing whatever you feel you have to, but something good WILL come, and soon! Hope you and TREE get to meet up on Sat. You like Bahama Breeze? We have one near my house, didn't care for it, not that it's bad, just not my type of food.

JMUIR, wish I could forget to weigh myself one day-too obsessed with that piece of metal! Hope your WI went well if you got on the scale today. Popcorn is a nono:nono: according to SB, all corn related foods are not OP. BUT, if you personally find that it doesn't cause you to gain, or have a negative influence, then go ahead and eat it, in moderation as a treat once in a while-if you do see that it does affect you, give it up. I do believe though, popping it raises it's GI a bit, as does frying potatoes for potatoe chips. But again, nope, not OP.

THUNDER, CONGRATS on another 2lbs gone! You're getting to another milestone I see, almost 40lbs-that's awesome!

NASCAR, CONGRATS on a 2lb loss for you as well! Hope you are feeling better!

RHROO, you spoiled us last week with your presence, then this week, dry as a desert! Hope you can get that butt of yours back in gear-too close to your goal not to take the bull by the horns and get there. I know if you'd just stay focused for a little while, you'd make it!!! I'm pulling for you!!!

JRED, and a hearty CONGRATS to you for another 2lbs down the drain! As you said: ! That's the most amazing thing about this WOE. The cravings for the sugary things of the past are gone. and it's so true! When you totally detox from the sugars, you sure don't miss them, or crave them. Good going on not having a bite of those greasy donuts! I'm sure if you found a ME restaurant, you'd love the food-it's all so healthy and tasty! Wonderful pic of your girls-they are beauties! I can see where a baseball bat by the door will come in handy!!!

KAREN, we NEVER have a change of seasons down here, and our leaves are always a boring green! Once we took a trip to NC/TN and I thought the leaves were just breathtaking! Enjoy the change of seasons you have, even if it does require some raking!!!

FROG, I'm sure you got my e-mail:) I'm sure we can get to the bottom of this trouble you are having with the scale-just work with me and we'll get through this! Don't dispair, the scale can go up on a whim with no apparent reason-it happens to the best of us. Tell BELINDA we say hello. Waiting for the next SPEWER STORY!!!!! Saw that info on the restaurants today as well, may try to hit Outback depending on how early Eli comes home, but has to be my treat, poor guy has spent way too much on meals out this past week!! Guess my bday money will have to come in handy for this!

NANCE, uh hmmm, I was ready to come track your butt down!!! Unlike you to be gone so long-miss chatting with you too! Do you have a AOL BUDDY NAME yet? Glad to hear you're walking in that gorgeous park of yours!!! Did you see the pictures I posted last week of you and Dan, you and Lara and I, you and Lara???? I have more, just haven't had time to post them. Have you seen LDBLOND lately?? How's Dan, kids, animals????{{{HUGS}}}

Well, finally, I'm done, here is is after 11:30am already! I have to get ready and take my car back, they FORGOT to do the front end alignment, sure as heck didn't forget to charge me for it though!

I will post a few recipes on the recipe board later!!!

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Hi Gals -

A few moments of escapism here, then back to the grindstone.

About that article I posted - I know there is a JOB in there for me somewhere! Sugarbusters Soapbox Queen? WHY are there no SB support groups (a la WW) out there? Can you imagine how much fun it would be to participate? Hmmmmmm.........:s:

Thank you to those who asked about my Dad. Bad. Up and down again, he went for another Catscan to determine the extent of the new cancer. His spirits are awful. And stupid me, of course I have to do all this research and learn the segment of our population with the highest incidence of suicide is seniors.....just more to keep me awake at night....:(

DEB - Ya should have picked me up some floaty dresses! Now, tho, it is no longer floaty dress season up here in the north woods so it is pants and JJill dresses with tights....I've been thinking of you and my other FLA friends lately...:( Called my BF in Boca and told her it was time to move to Connecticut....

Melf - It is so difficult when our parents get old. I totally understand your worry about Mom. Is there a possibility she could really move out of the NH and in with your brother? The nursing home $$ could then pay for a caregiver. This whole war thing has freaked my Dad out too....sitting there watching TV is enough to make anyone depressed and anxious. My Stepfather had dementia and it was terrible to see the loss of faculties. So sad. Here are some hugs. ((()))

Sol - listen, here is my career advice. Become an Ebay goddess like myself and moreso, like Deb. Research what Disney stuff sells on Ebay, then go treasure hunting at the outlets and stuff in Orlando and make millions! :D Of course, I'm exagerating, but Disney stuff does sell like hotcakes! Ya just have to know what specific things sell. Of course, none of this may interest you, I just am on this Ebay binge....wish I could do it full time. Good luck with the jobs....I've been there too...

Anyone else buy from J.Jill online? I loooooooooooove their clothes - their website has great online sales and they have all sizes from Petite, Misses, Womens and Tall. Check it out.

Back to the grindstone.

Hugs to all!

Good Morning all, :)

I have felt a little out of sorts this week. My throat has been scratchy so I have been laying around a lot and drinking lots of liquid. I need to get the flu shot....we drivers need them to make it through the winter. We have kids sneezing and coughing on us all the time.

I have been thinking a lot about Thanksgiving......since you canadians have been talking about it so much. Happy Thanksgiving BTW. Anyway we always go camping on Thanksgiving and eat our holiday lunch at the Lodge. I love that no cooking and no cleanup.....doesn't sound too traditional but I get tired of tradition sometimes. Call me a step out gal. LOL Anyway they usually have broiled chicken and a salad bar there so I should be fine. Will forego deserts and sweet potatoe casserole this year.

Deb......I don't know what to change but I feel like I am doing something wrong. The weight is staying on but my clothes feel better so maybe I am losing inches and replacing the lost pds with muscle. I need to purchase a tape measure and take my measurements so I can at least feel good about that.

Need to go do some more housework. Cya all later.

Well, I am at home again today. I still have the stomach cramping. :( Today, I'm doing tea w/ fructose, maybe some chicken broth later. I bet that looks great on the fitday food journal website! I'm feeling really guilty 'cause I know it's busy at work. If I was sitting most of the day, I could be there. But then again, I don't want to get anyone else sick.

TV- glad you're ok. We don't get tornados here. I can't imagine being in one. The most we get are Haboobs (spelling?) Yes, that's really a weather term for a huge WALL of Dust/Dirt coming at you. That's when we check that the dog is inside, close the garage door, and turn off the computer. Half the time, it means a thunderstorm is coming. No real damage besides being sandblasted!:D

Meliris - same thing for me! I'm 1/2 Taiwanese, so I grew up w/ white rice! Starches are too addictive. I'm trying to do SB (w/o corn or potatoes). Once I see some results, I might go with a less strict GI diet. Btw, thanks for the advice regarding the daily tally on carbs/sugar.

Meliris & TV - Kudos on your Weebelos! My DH is an Eagle Scout, and believes that Scouts are a really good thing! He believes that it not only teaches kids how to lead, but also how to follow--ie discipline. He just went to a reunion for his old scout troop. He really enjoyed seeing all those faces from yesteryear.

Nascargirl- Nice to meet another cow person! I worked in Animal Sciences as a student at the University for a couple of years. I was in the research mode though, looking at bull DNA to see which daughters got milk proteins from their sires. I wasn't exactly up close and personal. I'm partial to Holsteins, the black and whites.:) I'm not kidding, but my Aussie cattle dog had the holstein markings as a pup. They're born white w/ their black markings, like Dalmations, then their fur begins to take on the blue merle color (kinda like salt +pepper).

Well, I better go. Hope everyone is doing well.

Well, I did manage to weigh myself this morning and I think that the scale is stuck. It hasn't moved since I started, but I hven't been real good. But I guess same is better than up.

Sparkle - Atlanta is great. I have lived here most of my life and I can't hink of living anywhere else. The weather (up until today) has been nice fall weather, crisp and a bit cool. There are still some places that are still llike GWTW.

Nascar Girl - How is Newnan? I've never been down that way. I live up near Sandy Springs.

Well, for some reason my connection here at work is slow and can't keep up with my typing. I will try and check in later

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good Wednesday to all of you! A quick post, for me down 1lb. and have a new understanding of what the size of clothing means. A let you in on a little secret…it doesn’t mean a thing. I can wear a few 12s, mostly 10s and some 8s. My partner at work wears anything from a 4 to a 10. This was a difficult realization for me.

I hope all of you are well. I haven’t gotten moments breath to even respond since my last post and I’m sorry. I really am trying to keep in touch with all of you, but I haven’t changed my alarm to 5 am yet, still getting up with the kids at night and need every minute of sleep in order to keep away from caffeine and keep my tummy happy. I find my worst habits sneak out when I’m run down.

I’ll try to pop in again at the end of the week.

Have a wonderful birthday, SEF!

Afternoon Ladies!! I'm still kickin! :D
Frog - Which red wine is it that you buy? I'm not into the real dry kinds so I'd be willing to try something new:)

Jumir - Newnan is a pretty little town with those big southern homes. Of course it is begining to be a suburb of Atlanta. It is growing like wild fire! But the old town part is still the same. At christmas they have the tour of homes, which is nice. Come for a visit it's probably less than an hour south of where you are at. You can come down hwy 92/5 thru Douglasville and come to Newnan that way. or take I20 to I285 to I85South.

Well gotta get back to work!

Hello all!

This will be a brief post just to say hi to everyone.

Hi everyone!

I'm back from Kinston before heading to Greendboro tomorrow night. I hope to get back on the sometime tomorrow. I'll be back in Auburn Sunday night.

Frog--I think we will be coming through your area late Friday night. We are having dinner to celebrate Dad's 75th birthday and then leaving for Greensboro--so I don't think I'll be able to make a stop this time. I am thinking about you and sharing your frustration. You know I've been stuck for a while too. But I also know this--even if I never lost another pound, all I have to do is consume sugar to know how badly I feel with it in my system. I will follow this WOE for the rest of my life because it makes me feel better--so even when I get to goal (please God!) I will still eat low glycemic and low sugar! Whatever is going on in your body will resolve itself--keep doing what you know to be healthy and the results will surely follow!

SEF--Hally birthday! I know this is late, but I was away from the computer yesterday!

SOL--Waiting is soooooo hard!

NASCAR--Welcome! I have recently become a race fan! Where is the Harry's in Peachtree City? The only one I know about is upnear Marietta--Peachtree City is right on my way home on Sunday!

Have a good evening everyone!

Hello again ladies!

TV
Glad you liked the suitcase thing. Even though I emptied the suitcase and vowed never to buy tight clothes again, the idea of the “magic suitcase” has been a part of my life for so long that I had a hard time letting it go. I keep the clothes in a couple of drawers in an extra nightstand I have now. At least they are only from Goodwill. When I was a teenager and young adult I used to buy brand new clothes in a size 16 because that’s the largest size in the regular stores. But I didn’t fit them. I figured I could “diet” for a few weeks and everything would be okay, but I just kept getting bigger. Ugh. I think those days are really over now!

Thanks for the Greek beef stew recipe, it looks great!

Mel
Sugar is in EVERYTHING and we don’t notice until we start paying attention! I mean what is up with sugar in beans and meat and just about everything else.

My knees make noise too....I guess I’m getting old!

To further answer your questions about Body for Life. Like everything else I do, I follow the program my own way. Probably more fat than they recommend and not only things on the “approved” list. But I am following the small portions 6 times a day and the workouts, which are very important. But if I don’t have time to finish I just do what I can. It’s easier cause I’m single but it can be done by anyone. For example if you are eating with your family you just need to measure out one serving of lean protein and one serving of starch. I don’t think any one program is perfectly right for everyone. That’s why over the months I have taken bits of this and that and put them together in my own way. For example, Sugar Busters makes a big difference in my health and the quality of my skin, etc. But it’s very possible for a person to totally follow all the “rules” and be healthy, but not lose much weight, by eating too many total calories and not doing a focused enough exercise program. The principles of Body for Life adds focus and structure to my eating and exercise for dramatic results, but may be too strict for some to follow. I personally got thrown off track by vacation and other things last time.

And yes, the scale is psychotic!!!! I intellectually know it’s very silly to be upset about being up one pound or happy about being down, etc. But it’s hard to overcome a lifetime of being emotionally guided by that number.

Karen
Are you eating enough food early in the day? Often when I eat too little I end up not being able to control myself in the evenings. Planning ahead REALLY helps. I’m so busy that I have to cook everything ahead of time on the weekends. Like some kind of rice/chicken/vegetable dish, thrown into the freezer right in the plastic container. Burritos wrapped individually in Saran wrap. I make my own “energy bars” and wrap those too. With a serving of cottage cheese or a boiled egg it’s a meal. If I don’t have something prepared ahead of time, I will eat whatever’s available. It’s just natural.

jred
What lovely daughters you have!

Froggie
So you are a poet too. ;) Make sure to post some pictures of you as Elvira I am dying to see them! You are so into Halloween. I was last year but this year I just can’t work up the enthusiasm. I always think I’ll be skinny enough to wear my planned very risque dominatrix costume or at the very least the Tammy Faye Beauty Queen idea, but I’m NOT. And since Brian is in DC Halloween is no fun anymore. So I will live vicariously through you. Oh here is a picture of me from LAST Halloween. I guess I was supposed to be a Redneck Princess. But the guys I went out with were such buzzkills that I ended up getting drunk. That was a lifetime ago. ;)

It’s so nice to see your smiling face around these parts, so to speak. Good luck with the job search and refinancing. I’m doing some major overhauls in my finances. I budgeted my spending money for the month and put all of it in my wallet....well, it’s only the 11th and it’s pretty much gone :( :( :( so I’m still working on it. ;)

Debbie
I was headed down the path of massive weight gain. You already know my story, but I was over 200 pounds by age 22 and gaining FAST. My whole life was eating and I didn’t have any tools or support (or wouldn’t take advantage of them) so things looked very very bleak. I finally reached out for help and it’s thanks to a lot of people that I am having success however slowly. And the folks on this board, but especially YOUR inspiring example, are a big part of why I didn’t continue down the same path until I was 40 and 400 pounds!!!

A small part of me is paranoid that I’ll go back to the way I was. Every day is a struggle. But also every day I get more confident that I really have changed. Like for example. As you know I have been through a very rough spell lately. Well one night in June it was really bad and I was afraid that I really was going to give up on all the progress I’ve made. So that night (it was too late to take any positive action then) I made a promise to myself to 1) go get some therapy, FINALLY and 2) resolve a couple of things with people that were bothering me. And the very next day, I did both those things even though it was hard. Therapy has been a positive experience so far, and although getting back on my feet took quite some time, I feel I am definitely not going to slide back too far before I start moving ahead. And after four days I feel great!

This is rather rambling, but I’m trying to say THANK YOU for being an inspiration to me and being part of what saved me from a lifetime of yo-yo dieting and weight gain.

jmuir
Thanks for the input on Atlanta. I used to have dreams about that city (I mean literal dreams) although I have never been there. One day! That’s a GREAT wedding photo, how exciting to be a newlywed!

Lara
I was glad to hear something from you. Thanks for checking in!

Susan
Hi!

So. Today I actually got up early enough to get in a full hour’s weight workout!!!! Getting up early is a science. It takes me forever to get ready. I need to hone my morning routine. I’ve also found that I’ve been dressing myself more completely and looking more presentable than when I roll out of bed at 7:10. It’s a good feeling. I can’t believe that I used to be able to get it together all the time, but it’s been several months since I’ve been able to get up early on a regular basis.

Been sleeping very well since starting back at the gym. I was having problems for a bit, although since I normally get six hours of sleep I usually take full advantage of them. ;)

It’s just a silly little thing, but important to me. (Can’t remember if I said this already) I found some pretty journals at Ross. They are just the right size for me, which is small enough to fit in my purse and very fat. They are the kiddie ones that come with a lock, which I pried off with a knife. I liked it so much that I went back and got three more! I’m METICULOUSLY keeping my food and exercise journal, as well as any thoughts, inspirations and dreams that I have. It’s a great help in my success to write things down. Because I care about my “record.” Because it keeps me in the present. And it’s so much nicer to keep a journal on pretty paper! If you are having a hard time getting it together, I would recommend getting some kind of day planner or journal that suits your style and make it IMPORTANT to you (remember that book the main character would always carry around in The English Patient?) I put a picture of me and Brian in the front cover of mine because we look so cute and happy. ;)

Off to work we go!

Long day at work. Managed to read some of the board, but still not finished with yesterday's posts. Have to stop for supper now but planning to come back a litle later & try tpo finish. Will post these replies for now.

This is a really cute site that my bil sent us today from ARK, thought I'd share it with all of you. This really expresses how I feel about all of you. :D

Solshine, That was such a sweet thing for you to do those pies for your friend. And what a trooper, not even eating the crumbs! hehehe Sure praying for you to find a job some. You are such a cheerful, out-go gal, someone will snatch you up soon, I'm sure. Hang in there. Gee, did you hurt your foot for it to be so painful?? Only thing other than injury that I can think of might be a spur or something like that if it only hurts when you put pressure on it in a particular way. Hope not though.

Thunder, Congrats again on the loss. 1 shy of 40?? You just go girl!!! that's wonderful progress. Now get some rest!

Nascar Girl 2 lbs?? Take it girl, that's great. Way to go.

RHOO, Glad to see you made it back from your trip & good to hear that you had a nice relaxing time. Now Rhoo, you have worked too hard to let it all go out the door. Get a grip, ok??? :D

j red, Another 2 lbs is great! Congrats on the loss & passing up those nasty donuts ;) Proud of you & you SHOULD be proud of yourself cause that is definitely progress. LOL..you're correct about the ME being for middle eastern food. Girl, if you haven't ever tried it, you should! We love it. I'm making tabouli right now to have with the left over brisket for supper.

SPARKLESCAMP, You're stuffing your face with marshmallow peeps? sorry, couldn't resist that after reading your post. LOL Good write up on the scale. This is true, we can't always go by what the scale says if we know that we are loosing inches. I know I am definitely happy with my tape measure these days! Hewy, that vacation sounds fabulous, even if you do have to listen to a sales pitch. I have learned to say "NO" rather well after attending a few of those. LOL

Meliris Don't fret over that 1 gram of sugar in those beans! That's certainly within limits that are allowed.

KAREN, Doesn't sound like a pity party to me. Sounds like you have sptted the problem & well outlined it. You have a pretty good idea of what it will take to get you back on track, or at least to make a start, by planning out the week's menu. Now, I hope that you can follow through & do whatever it takes to get yourself back in the grove of this WOE. So glad that you were able to speak your mind & put things down in black & white. Sometimes that's a good way of getting to the root of the problem. Stay in touch. We're here for you. I envy you all those colorful leaves on the trees, but sure not the raking up!! ;)

j red, What beautiful daughters you have!

FROG, {{{{{hugs}}}}} That is for your note & kind words about my Mom & for BelindaWannabe, cause I understand what she is going through also, but mostly it's a life line for you! That scale is going to HAVE to come back down sooner or later & I'm praying it will be in the near future so that you don't get discouraged. And BTW, you can rant & rage anytime...couldn't hear you from here. LOL

SEF, Sounds like you had a good BD. So glad to hear it. Hey, I would have done the same with the ice cream if I had missed supper, as a matter a fact, I have done that before myself & didn't feel a bit guilty about it. ;)

Well ladies, I really wanted to finish catching up tonight, but dh is tired & ready for bed & believes I spend too much time on puter, so I will say good night. Anyway, I need to iron a uniform & get a couple of other things done before I can hit the hay. Have to work again tomorrow, so I'll try to check in tomorrow afternoon. Take care everyone & have a good Friday. It may be TGIF for most of you, but today was Monday of an 8 day, 80 hr work schedule for me. :(

I got distracted when I found this low-carb recipe site. Some of the ideas are amazing! I have only checked out the breads and desserts, and they seem appropriate for Sugar Busters. Check it out!

Good evening everyone

I was just checking back on my weight chart and see that I have lost the grand sum of 12 pounds since the beginning of January. Not even 1 1/4 pounds per month. I may have to go back to charting everything on Fit-day to see how much I am taking in. I did it for several weeks but stopped again a couple of months ago. I was at least hoping to go down a size or two before buying any winter clothes. I bought new stuff early in the year when I went down two sizes but I am reluctant to buy too much now just in case I go down a size soon. I guess I will just have to look scruffy all winter and just buy an outfit if/when the need arises ;)

To add to the rhubarb discussion (I'm not sure who started it). I would think that Agave Nectar would be a good sweetener to use with it although I haven't tried it. It's been a few years since I have eaten it but I used to like it warm, with lots of sugar of course, mixed up with a little ice cream. Yummy. The ice cream made it real smooth - took the sharp taste away. Rhubarb is also good if you have a dookie problem.

Melf - Sorry to hear about the issues with your Mom. This must be a very trying time for you all. I know how difficult things can be with AD patients as I have worked with many of them, as I know you have too, but it is always different when it is someone in your own family. I'm glad you were able to spend some quality time with your Mom and hope she is beginning to feel a bit more settled.

Viv - Sorry to hear that things aren't going so well with your Dad. I'm sure the Canadian
Thanksgiving is the same as yours.

TVthatsME - That was a great birthday poem you wrote for Sef.

Sparkle - Glad to see you are getting back into exercising again. Good luck with the BFL program.

Mel and Solshine - I know what you mean about battling that same pound. I feel I am doing the same at present. It seems to take so long before it goes down a pound and stays down.

Solshine - Sorry to hear about your foot pain. I've had heel pain in the past but that was caused by heel spurs (or plantar fasciitis). But yours sounds like something different. Hope you get to see your doctor if it doesn't improve.

Jmuir - Any kind of corn is supposed to be illegal on SB but if you check out the glycemic index you will get different values depending on where you look. SB lists it as 75 gi. Montignac 70, The International Glycemic Index Tables has several listings for corn for an average of 55. They also give popcorn a gi of 55. If the popcorn you had only had 4 grams of carbs I really can't see that it would be able to raise your blood sugar very much. So if it doesn't bother you to eat it I can't see why having it occasionally would hinder your weight loss (I'm assuming it's not covered with butter!). Sucralose is Splenda so at least that part is legal and calorie free! JMHO. (See post to Tree below).

Rhroo - Glad to see you are still around. You just get right back on that wagon girl. We need you there.

Jred - You have two beautiful daughters. Glad you didn't succumb to the donuts. And it's great news that you didn't even want them. You must be truly detoxed from the sugar.

Karen - Sorry to hear that you haven't been doing so well. I do think it is a good idea to plan your meals ahead of time, even if you only do it on a daily basis. I find it much easier to stay op when I plan ahead. That way I can control my starchy carb intake as I like to have at least one meal a day without any, also to make sure that I get an adequate amount of protein at each meal. I can join you in supplying lots of leaves to whoever wants them. I can see in the next week or two I'll be needing lots of assistance to dispose of them. They are just beginning to fall but not enough to bother raking up yet. They sure look beautiful while they are still on the trees though.

Frog - I wish I could help you. I know how frustrating it can be with the stalling although I have been lucky enough not to gain. Are you keeping a journal of your intake? Hope you are feeling better to-day.

Tree - When it comes to choosing between low fat or regular I usually check the labels. If the sugar/carb content is much higher with the low fat then I will take the regular. For instance, I usually buy regular Philly spreadable cream cheese. But last time I bought it I checked the labels and saw that there was only a slight difference in carb content but the protein content was higher, so I chose the low fat. I assume SB disallow corn due to it's glycemic index which they give as 75. Most of their information I believe was taken from Michel Montignac's book "Eat Yourself Slim" although there is a slight difference in the gi from each book. Have you read Montignac? This is partly what he has to say about corn:

"Corn is a grain that the indigenous populations of America cultivated for milleniums for food. The original species of corn (Indian), whose varieties are still conserved in agricultural museums, had a low glycemic index (index 35) because they were rich in soluble fibre. After the discovery of the New World, Westerners began to cultivate corn for themselves, but even more so to feed livestock. By way of variety selection and hybridism, they were mostly looking to increase output. Over several years the glycemic index of corn practically doubled (index 70). And as we saw earlier for other foods, the starch in corn is so fragile that certain treatments can modify its nutritional structure. That is why making corn into corn flakes or popcorn (two of the most consumed forms in the US) considerably raises the glycemic index from 70 to 85."

It was interesting to read that article on Glycemic Load. I think it is very logical to consider the total carb content of the food, not just the gi. In The Glucose Revolution it says that carrots are considered a free food for diabetics because their total carb content is only about 6 grams per 1/2 cup serving and yet in SB it is a forbidden food. I've noticed that some new potatoes too are given a gi in the 50's but they are still quite high in the carb content. This is one food though that I wouldn't want to risk eating. I know I wouldn't be satisfied with just one or two small pieces.
I think we all have to make our own choices, and figure out for ourselves what we can safely eat without hindering weight loss. Milk is allowed but skimmed is recommended. There are some people who have a problem losing when they have milk but for others it doesn't make any difference. If you are concerned about any particular food try having a small amount and see what effect is has. If you get hungry a short while later, or have cravings for something sweet or starchy then maybe it is adversely affecting your blood sugar and should be avoided. Each one of us is different and may be able to tolerate different foods.

Sef - Glad you enjoyed your birthday. That was a great supper you had

Nance - Glad you are beginning to get things under control again. We have to keep you on that wagon (or is it get you back on?)

Fly - How are you? I hope things are going well for you. I miss your posts and hope you can get back to join us soon.

Congrats to everyone who lost this week and to others just hang in there. Your (our) turn will come soon I hope.

I haven't finished going through the posts yet, I was so far behind, but I have to stop now as I have to be up and out early in the am.

Greetings to anyone I have missed.

Bye for now

Marie.

Good evening y'all!

It is late and I am tired. Work schedule changed today so that I was able to have almost all day off, which was good because I ended up making Halloween crafts for Monday and the party on the 27th. Spent all day painting and shopping.

Went to Outback tonight. Ate the grilled tuna, salad, steamed veggies and 1/4 of a blooming onion. Brought home 1/2 the fish and veggies. It was nice that this restaurant was donating 100% of their $ for the night to the RC.

Thanks to all of you for the supportive comments. It helps to ease the sting of the weight stagnation followed by this gain.

I am too pooped to post to all of your comments. Just the questions that I remember from reading through the posts.

SPARKLE - loved the pic at Halloween, hard for me to believe that the other picture was you. You should be proud of the many positive changes you have made in your life.

NASCAR - I like Forest Glen Merlot, Corbett Canyon is not bad either, Hacienda, Gossamer Bay, etc. I haven't seen huge differences between the mid to lower priced wines. I do recommend the more expensive Merlot's for a splurge on a special occasion. I also like Shiraz, an Australian red wine.

MELF - Thank you for you sweet sentiments. I am praying for you too.

TV - I think I shoulda been a meteorologist too. I am terrified of tornadoes, my most common nightmare is about them. But I LOVE learning about the weather, we have a great weather trivia guy here and I am often suprised at how many of these questions I know. It's just something that has always intersted me so I paid attention in school I guess! I was even afraid to watch Twister because I was afraid of the dreams that follow. I have an old fashioned barometer in my bedroom and a Galileo thermometer that dh brought back from a business trip to San Diego. Nice to know that we share this interest in common as well. :D

Ok, that is all I am good for. Too many brain cramps to try to keep going.

Peace,
FROG

Hello everyone,

Debelli- you follow Montignac, right? Have you tried the cookbooks he has-- More Montignac Menus or Eat Yourself Slim Cookbook? I saw them on Ebay, wondered if they were worth buying. I have the Eat Yourself Slim book on hold at the library, can't wait to pick it up. :) Btw, enjoy those asian pears!

Jred- your daughters are beautiful. What was the occasion?

Sparkle -what a cute pic. You look like you're having fun!

Rosalie- thanks for the advice. So far, I'm following the SB way. I haven't seen a noticeable change yet, just weight fluctuations (2-5#). The nice thing about SB, is you don't get CRAVINGS for carbs 2hrs after eating.

To complicate matters, I ended up at Urgent Care today. The doc has me on soup and juices for the next couple of days, to clear out my system. I hope that gets rid of the problem. :( In all my moaning and groaning with the stomach cramps, I managed to pull a muscle in my back! :?: That's what actuallly sent me to the doc.

What is WOE?

I just came across the help 3fc message regarding support of this website. I'm planning on donating. I was wondering if that message ever showed up on the support board? If I hadn't been cruising around, I never would have seen it. I usually go straight to the support board.

Does anyone have a dinner roll recipe (freezable would be preferred)? I couldn't find one by the search method.

Chin up everyone! We're all doing something positive with our lives, even if it's just supporting each other. I love this site.

I have been so busy today.

I want to thank all for their birthday greetings and for TV's poem and Frog's ditty. I'll tell you why they all meant something.

I thought dil and gd really weren't all that enthusiastic about my birthday. Then last night going through email found cards from them.

But wait it gets better!!

Last night when I got home from choir Lori was making homemade noodles so they could dry and she would cook them today as ds loves chicken and noodles. Today was Lori's day off but she had Bible Study group and a doctor's appointment, Did I say ds's birthday was on the 9th and he was away? When I went downstairs this morning she was making him a birthday cake, had set the table really pretty and was cooking the chicken.

I went to nursing home as usual, ran some errands got home the same time as ds did. He came in from TX. They went to doctor's appointment and I painted some picture frames.

Later when it was time for supper, at my place was a gift.

But wait it gets better!

I couldn't have the noodles, obviously, so she had made up a mashed sweet potato concoction with splenda, cinnamon and cloves just for me, also she had shrimp cocktail and didn't think I should eat the chicken that was covered with the noodles and broth so cooked extra shrimp for my meal!

My gift was 2 Russell Stover SF Caramel Pecan candies and a bottle of lavender nail polish.

But wait it gets better.

Obviously, I can't have birthday cake. On the counter was a styrofoam restaurant box, but I didn't pay any attention.

Okay here it comes!

She had called all over Slidell and found a place down the street that made SFWW cakes! And bought me a slice!! It was very good, I saved half for tomorrow. Then she said that the doctor she works for gets cake all the time from a place in Mandeville where he has his other office. And she was going to go to Mandeville (a 30-40 min drive) to get me a slice until she thought of calling around here. Kevin said "you were going to Mandeville for one slice of cake!?!" She said, "For your mother, yes!" He said, "For that time and distance you want to get a whole cake!" She said, "For the price of a slice, you KNOW you don't want to buy a whole cake!!"

So I had birthday cake thanks to my caring dil.

So don't you think my story got better as it went along? Don't I have a lovely dil?

By the way, the cake is 4 layers and lemon flavored w/ icing, guaranteed SF! Lady was apologizing because she had sold out the red velvet and spice cakes.

So Kevin and I both had belated birthday celebration.

Just a quickie answer to some things. My bil came home yesterday. He found bed uncomfortable so wound up sleeping in his recliner, sister on couch. Still has some med problems, but is glad to be home!

DEB - No dog for now. I'd like one but as I said there is one dog here so I can share him. And my cat is more dog acting than cat. I am NOT a fan of Michael Jackson. Trifle is yummy, had an English friend that used to make it.

SCAMP - Okay, now I see your definition of top heavy!

MELF - Sorry about problems with your Mom. I have seen that scenario so many times. It is hard on all concerned. My obe sil would tell my mil things and left it for her sister and brother to handle when there could be no follow through on her promises or remarks. Also some times remarks are taken and they make them fit what they want. So you have a no win situation. Prayers for understanding, patience, are going your way.

ROSALIE - Yea I thought that ice cream supper was pretty good, but if you read the above you know why I think tonight's was better!

Think I hit the high spots! It's time for bed.

Take care, sef

Happy Friday!!

I've got the full blown PMS thing going on this morning - blah! I'm trying really hard not to sink too low.

Justin's school had their fall festival last night. It was fun. Me and my little guy went on a hayride together (big brother is too big to hang out with Mom anymore :( ). I made DH sign up to work for the 4th grade booth this year so that I could get off the hook for once!! He got off so easy, they were outside doing a radar-gun/baseball throw, to see how fast you could throw a ball, and 10 minutes after his shift started it began pouring down rain!! They had to cancel the outside stuff for the night!!

The senior class had been collecting items from local businesses for an auction and I always try to get in on the fun. Me and my Mom were on the front row this year and I got a few cool things. I bought a red/white/blue wreath with flags for my front door, a wooden mail sorter/key holder thing for my kitchen and a basket that opens and has the cutest mini tea set inside (I know, I only have boys, but I have always loved those tiny tea sets - maybe I'll have a grand-daughter some day). I got all 3 items for a combined total of $21, so I think I did really well. Some big items, really nice things, went VERY CHEAP, but they were nothing that I really needed. It was fun anyway. My Mom and I were good at starting up the bid and running it up, but backing out before getting the item!

BusDeb - yea, it is supposed to be bad here tomorrow. I'll have to keep an eye out. I promise I will have plenty to do because some household organizing was put on the backburner due to ball, but now needs serious attention! I need to take a week off just to get things caught up and back in order!!

Tree - WOE is "Way of Eating"

Frog - I couldn't wait to see Twister, in fact I bought the video! I have scary dreams about them too sometimes, but they still just facinate (sp?) me so much that I get glued to any show that involves tornados.

Melf - hope things are going better with your Mom. I can imagine how you must feel. I worry so much about my own Mother these days....

Gotta run for now - catch you gals later,

tv

Good Friday Morning!

Wasn't able to get on the computer yesterday, as soon as Michael got home he was on the entire time I was home as well. Finally gave up and went to sleep a bit before 10pm.

Got my walk in today, did the 4.5 miles in 49:47, not a bad time-at least my feet weren't bothering me today.

For many of you who've had a mystery gain, I'm right there with you! I'm up 4.5lbs from my all time low. I know I ate way too much yesterday, but one day is not going to do this to me, that's for sure-so as long as I know that I'm not doing anything wrong, I stick it out and try to be patient without being the Queen of the Piss & Moan Club. As this has happened in the past, I know the scale will go back down. PLUS, keeping track on my WC PROGRAM helps and knowing how I physically feel helps as well-I've noticed that I've been feeling a little odd lately (some would tend to say that was normal for me!).

If you are gaining, assess your WOE and see where the trouble may lie. If you are exercising, not cheating, keeping your calories in order, no TOM, or mid-cycle, etc. etc.-be patient, it will go back down. BUT, if you are doing something that you know is not helping the situation, it's totally up to you to do something about it. From our polling question this week, more than half of those answering the poll haven't a clue how many grams of fat they take in daily-if you are having trouble and not seeing the scale go down, you may want to try and find the answer to this question over a couple days, it may help.

BOB Where are you????? Very unlike you to be gone all this time-did the gym become the new DUNGEON??

VIV, I never heard of JJILL, but then again, I don't order clothes that I can't see-it's hard enough to buy the ones I can see. My biggest gripe, petite pants-they are all too long, even with heels on! They need to make petite-petite sizes. Darn, I just wish my Aunt would just give me her old clothes, she's my height and rich, so she has nice stuff!

BUSDEB, hope you are feeling better today. Sounds like you have a nice TG DAY planned. You CAN make a legal dessert if you truly want (granted you have better self-control than I do), otherwise, I'd be happy with a really good sweet potato to serve as my dessert-some are so sweet, they taste like pudding/pie to me! Def. go get a tape measure! As you said, you feel the clothes getting bigger, so something is working-don't worry about the scale, as you can see from my above post, it doesn't say what's really happening!

TREE, feeling better today, I hope? I read Montignacs book AND SB and follow Montignacs rules for the most part-like the fruit rule, not drinking with meals, staying away from chocolate til maintenance, or at least, close to it. Personally, I'd check out the cookbooks at the library if they have them and see if YOU think they are worth getting, I don't, but then again, I hate to cook-BUT, I can highly recommend other cookbooks that you can find on Ebay or Half.com (if you've never ordered from half.com, let me know, and I can get a $5 coupon sent via e-mail to you for you to use). There are some great cookbooks out there that you can find great SB LEGAL RECIPES in, or make them adaptable to SB. There are some biscuit recipes on the board, but not a dinner roll-though I know I have one SOMEWHERE. I'll try to remember to look-don't hesitate to remind me, in my old age, I do tend to forget as well.

JMUIR, thanks for posting that beautiful wedding picture! You're newlyweds-didn't realize that:)

FILLISE, glad to see your post and know that you are having a good time in NC. If you get to Harry's on your way home, please, pay homage for me!!! I liked what you said to FROG about eating this way the rest of your life-my sentiments exactly.

SPARKLE, I've seen the picture of your heavy before and it amazes me to see how far you've come-I doubt you will ever go back to being like that-I don't think you'd let yourself. Look at the difference in your face, there's a happier person there-a more confident person. Through all your struggles, you've grown and with that, learned, and I think this will take you forward, not backwards. I truly believe that therapy is a GOOD thing-it sure helped me-I think it could help many. Keep up the great work, you'd doing well:D

MELF, that was a cute link!!!!!

ROSALIE, you mentioned only losing 12lbs since January, but do you see any patterns in these past 12 months. Like, when you journal, do you see you drop a bit, or during the summer months, did you drop? When you keep track, it may be easier to pinpoint a losing trend to one reason or another, or a trend of staying the same even.

FROG, glad to see you got to Outback, we didn't make it, Eli didn't get home til almost 8pm, so it was beans and bulgur for us.

SEF, what a nice bday surprise from your DIL! That's great to find a place that makes a SGWW cake-okay, I must ask, is there sugar in there? Whatever, even if there was, you're entitled, you only hit 65 once!

NANCE, I think we need to schedule a telephone chat-it's been too long! A pic of me and Eli that's good? Hmmm, sounds hard to believe! I'll have to get some copies of some of the pictures I have you you and the family-will post some more soon-I promise! Hope you and Lara can get together soon!

Well, I'm outta here, each day it seems I get started later and later. It's already 11:15am, and I"m still in my housecoat from this morning. The kids are with their Dad tonight, have no idea how late Eli will be, so I'm sure that I'll be able to get on the computer one way or another sometime this evening.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

Hey!

This is a quick post before I hit the road again tonight! I'll be glad to get home on Sunday and stay in one place for awhile. If nothing else--to get back in control of my menu! Everyone here is very supportive, and cooks things for me that I can eat, but being on the road throws timing off and then there is the boredom issue when I'm in the car by myself. I never realized but a lot of my travel eating was to relieve boredom! Am having to find other things to relieve boredom. Still there have been a few slips along the way. Tonight is the big 75th birthday dinner for my Dad. Tomorrow is the wedding in Greensboro. I just have to hang tough for two more days!

I want some of SEF's SGWW birthday cake! I'm glad you have such a sweet dil--knowing she would do all that for you is the best present of all!

Deb--I think BOB must be stuck on the treadmill. Either that or she is just too depressed about last Saturday to take much interest in life again. A victory this Saturday will do much to revive her!

Got to go--have to untie the phone line so the electrician can call with estimates for some work.

See you Monday!

Just a quickie! The birthday cake was absolutely SF. The lady assured Lori of that! Cause Lori told her I definitely could not have sugar! :nono:

Had to have blood drawn today. I look like a pincushion! I am a poor stick and have learned my best veins. Only a lot of techs don't want to listen to you. They think that a big vein means good results. :nono: My best vein is a little one they want to pass up. After the first two sticks the tech finally listened to me and Bingo! Then she said next time I came in WE would have to remember that. I told her I did! Glad she finally listened because she needed a lot of vials filled!

Take care. sef

Evening everyone!
Today was not good! Had to work out of town in my Cartersville office and We all went to lunch they all voted mexican so it was tough. I order what I thought was a pepper with cheese and meat and rf beans it was nasty! So only ate half because I was hungry and now feel miserable:mad: So maybe I didn't blow it too bad.

Fellis - Harry's is on hwy that runs from Newnan to Peachtree city I believe it's Hwy 54, If you get to the red light at hwy 74 you passed it. It's in the Avenues shopping center with Victoria Secrets.

Ok tomorrow is another day so will start fresh! Feeling a little lowsey though and still have no energy, think it's from giving up my potatoes!
Well gotta go fix supper!

Selfishly, I'm glad to see but a few posts since I posted last-don't have much time to post since Eli surprised me and came home early. With dinner already out of the way, it's time to spend some quality time on the couch and him rubbing my blistered feet:eek:

FILLISE, I hope your Father has a wonderful birthday and you enjoy this time with him and the rest of the family. I know, at least in our family, we ALWAYS have to have food on road trips to munch on. Usually with Eli, it's chips and peanuts, for me, now it's fruit and jello-kids, they aren't so bad, they seem to keep themselves occupied other ways than eating, but they have their times. One thing I do like to eat on road trip, pumpkin seeds in the shells-keeps you occupied for a time, at least. Hope you have a safe trip on the way back home.

SEF, like you, I have thin veins, the only thin thing I ever had on my body. They would stick me like crazy, even though I told them where the only decent vein on my arm was-if they weren't successful with that single vein, I made them take it out of my wrist-I had enough blood tests when I was trying to get pregnant to know that was the easy way out and not have to come out looking like an empty pin cushion.

NASCAR, I doubt you did damage with that one meal-at least you TRIED to make a healthy choice and that's what counts!

My girlfriend sent this link to me: http://www.nultech.com/ Click on where it says AMERICA I warn you now, it take almost 10 minutes to load this page, but-start a post on the board while you wait-when you hear the music start, open the page back up and watch-it's really good:)

Gotta run!

Will check in with you all tomorrow morning.

I know it is so easy for someone else to say but once you eat that sugar just once those cravings set in. My triggers are different than yours and vice versa.

How exciting about your friend! I would LOVE to adopt!!

I hope you make it through the weekend ok!

Hope everyone had a good day! It's been really windy here this evening, waiting for the rain to start. Got to work tomorrow & the weatherman says it will be raining all day, so at least I'll be inside...LOL

Thanks to all of you sweet ladies that have posted words of encouragement about the situation with my Mom. I truely do appreciate all of you.

Just a few replies to some posts....

Nance, Sorry to hear that you've been having some problems, but so glad to hear that things are under control again. That's the important thing! So you're getting cooler weather your way? It sure is windy here today & expecting more rain & thunderstorms through out the next couple of days. Yuck! Good luck with the job opening with Lara. Saw your message to Deb about missing the IM chats with her. You do know that you can download a free AIM messenger with Netscape??? Check it out here... http://home.netscape.com/aim/index.html?cp=hophb4

Meliris Don't get discouraged girl, just give it some time. Debbie can tell you the same thing, sometimes I have stalled & even right now, I have gained back 2 lbs from my lowest weight & can't seem to get that scale to budge, but it will sooner or later, so I know if I continue doing the right thing, it will happen. Hang tight a while. You'll see results. From your post to Tree, it seems like you are on the right track.

TVthatsME Hey, that recipe for the Greek-Style Beef Stew really sounds good. I have a folder that I copy recipes into that I want to try, so I copied yours to give it a try.

Debbie, What a buy on those Asian Pears! Or should I say what a steal? Just a play on words there. You sure seem to have a nack for finding bargains. Thanks for the instructions for the taratour & the falafels. I have made a copy of it & put in my files. I did try the taboulli mix that I bought & it is very good, but not as good as the fresh made of course. But dh enjoyed it as I did. Thanks for the hug & encouraging words about my situation with Mom. I called her today & she is still angry which is so unlike her. She is still very angry with my sister also. I believe as before that this is a progression of the Alzhemier's disease & that we have lots more of this kind of things we will have to deal with a time goes by. Not anxious for that either. :( But deal with it we will, the best way we can.

VIV, Yes, I believe you do totally understand what I'm going thru with Mom. My db is toying with the idea of taking her home, but I'm afraid it is just not a good idea. He is looking for a job, his wife's daughter lives with them & she has a baby & a 4 y.o. also in the same house. Her daughter is talking about going back to school & that will leave my sil with the 2 kids & I know Mom would not handle that for very long. She doesn't tolerate the noise. Then she would loose her room at the home & it would be twice as hard to get her back there when she would get really bad with the AD. We're just taking it a day at a time for now. As I told Debbie above, she is so angry with us which is so not typical of Mom. Sorry to hear that your Dad is not improving. {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to you too.

BusDeb Yeap, sounds like you are a perfect canidate for the flu shot with all those kidoes. ;) Hope you feel better soon. Sounds too much like a cold coming on. Thanksgiving without the cooking & cleaning??? Sounds pretty good. LOL Hope you & dh had a nice lunch together today.

Tree, I love your new gif there! That's cute. Sorry to hear that you're still cramping. Sounds like a bad cause of GE. Eat light & rest. You are right in not spreading it to other co-workers.

jmuir You're right, same is better than a gain. Hang in there it will come off. What an adorable couple the 2 of you are!!! Were you resting there on the steps? ;)

IDBLOND, Great to hear from you & congrats on the loss! I tend to agree with you on the size thing. I am wearing some 8, 10, & 12's depending on how they're made & it also depends on the maker wheather it runs small or not.

SPARKLESCAMP, I'm still amazed at the difference in those pictures of you. You sure have come a long way!! Thanks for the link you posted for the low carb recipes.

ROSALIE, Sorry to hear that you are not progressing as fast as you would like to, but hey, at least it's going down & not up. I think the older we get the harder it is to lose cause our metabolism slows down more. Yes, I agree, Marie, when it's family it's harder to deal with as you cannot separate yourself from the situation. I can handle it so much easier when it's my patients or their family that is going thru something like this. But deal with it I must. Thanks for the kind words. I do so appreciate all the encouragement from everyone here. It truely helps. {{{{HUGS}}}}}

SEF, You truely DO have a wonderful DIL who obviously loves you very much!! That was so sweet of her to be so considerate. I'll bet you really did enjoy that cake. Glad to hear that your bil made it back home. Mine is still in the hospital. Thanks for your prayers regarding my Mom & situation at hand. I really covet them at this time. You are a JEWEL!

Miss Grace Was that M&M with or without the peanuts? cause if it was with, at least you had a little protein with that sugar  Great news for your friend getting a new baby. Wishing them the best!!

lizery Good work Liz!! You're doing great! Give your boobs time, they'll catch up with you....LOL Really, I have lost several inches in mine along with the weight loss. Have had to reduce cup size as well as #. Was growing out of a 40C & now wearing 36B.

Well I'd best get to the ironing board & get a uniform ready for tomorrow. Will try to check in tomorrow night.

Friday Fact(?) - I read somewhere that 90% of a craving is satisfied with the first bite, the rest is just there. I tried it once (before SB). If I really THOUGHT about it WHILE I ate it, that first bite was everything! The second bite was good, the third bite just ok. Then there was the rest of the creme brulee sitting there.
Even for creme brulee this worked! You don't need the rest. I guess my point is if you end up cheating, you can cheat little or cheat big. Perhaps you cheat less, as you feel less deprived by cheating little. Then you jump on the wagon again. Did that argument work? :dizzy:

Sef - this is why family is so important, your dil is so thoughtful! Sometimes they do things that just overwhelm you.

Miss Grace- I will live vicariously through you whenever you eat those M&M's! :D There's a free candy dispenser at work that either has M&M's or skittles in it. I don't even go near it. WW said you have to tally in every BLT- that's bite, lick, and taste. I always thought that was silly, unless you BLT everything!

Sef- at our clinic, we have a one-stick rule. If the stickee can't get the vein with one stick, she's out, and someone (more skilled) has to come in. Maybe you should tell your clinic about this rule!

Nascar- I have the same problem lunching with the gals. I have been bringing a sandwich almost every other day. It helps that another gal is on an Atkins like diet, but not as strict. Usually I let the others make the choice of where to go. If I don't think I can eat anything there, I'll eat my sandwich at work. We went to Chevy's last week. It's a mexican chain with amazingly addictive salsa which of course goes w/chips. I resisted, and got a carnita burrito, ate 1/2 the innards, and some la charra beans. I know there was a fair amount of fat in the meat mix, but it was better than getting a corn tamale, or enchilada. I also left the tomalito, a sweet corn cake they make. :( Then I had a light dinner at home. I think it balanced out for the day.

Jmuir- beautiful wedding picture! You look so happy! Congratulations!

good morning all! am actually off to school to clean up the mess I made during my teacher workday yesterday…just wasn’t enough time to get it all done!

Lizery—am sympathetic to the boob issue! I even went to the doc. about a year ago to discuss reduction…insurance said to lose weight….ha! easier said than done…that is when my doc suggested sugar busters. he even said losing weight probably wouldn’t effect “the girls”. I still want the surgery, I just the insurance to pay for it!!! congratulations on your weight loss so far! my goal is close to yours…I’ll try to keep up with your progress!…it helps me with mine! enjoy the wkend!

melf—yep…love those M&Ms in the yellow package! your down to a 36B?!! I think that was my training bra!! he,he,he! what a dream!!!

tree-those snacks at work are a killer aren’t they! I teach kindergarten and we are always cooking or mixing or giving away skittles for not driving the teacher bonkers! sugar is everywhere!!!! by the way…I love the picture with your name! his name is shmoo, or something like that right?! …I’m an old cartoon watcher!

ya’ll enjoy the day! it is beautiful here in So. Car.!

Good morning all,

Or should I say good rainy stormy morning for some of us.! Hope everyone is doing good this morning. I couldn't wait until next wednesday to tell I lost that other lb YIPPE!!!! I am now at the 40 lb lose mark and now I can start on the next 20.:D I have been so busy the last few days I haven't been able to post. I've been to the mustard green patch. I put up 10 qts so far. Now I can have greens whenever I want them.

BusDeb I know how you feel with a cold I have been in that boat before. No appetite and don't really feel like getting out of the bed. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

missgrace glad you have great weather there its been raining here since 8 pm last nite and has not stopped. I no longer crave snacks so I have to plan them, like an apple or pear I have found that if I eat grapes they make me crave...weird huh! Sometimes I eat about 2 teaspoons of peanut butter mixed with jam made with Equal that I made on trisquits.

tree I wish that worked with me unfortunatly every bite I take seems to taste better than the last. I think you did great on the mexican eat out you didn't eat any of the no no stuff and then balanced out the fat at the end of the day. Great work!!

melf hope your mother is doing better will say a prayer for you'll.
How did your recipe turn out last nite. I finally quit procrastinating and finished up the greens last nite at about 10:30. Boy did my shoulders hurt afterwards.

Debelli hope your enjoying the weekend with the hubby rubbing your poor feet. Hope they are feeling better this morning.

sef you have a great dil. Enjoyed chatting with you the other day.

To everyone else I missed have a great day and happy losing!!!!

Hello all! Hope everyone's well.

Melf & MissGrace- yes, that's a Shmoo! The things you can find on the Web! My sis and I loved Shmoo so much we named our Cocker Spaniel after him. He's since passed away, but it was a great name for such a loving dog.

Btw, I totally agree on the boob issue. Whenever someone tells me they want an augmentation/enlargement, I list the cons they may not have thought about

- They're heavy! Your back aches, and the straps pull. You also tend to slouch more.
- You can't buy those cute delicate little bras. Victoria's Secret doesn't carry larger sizes unless you go to their catalog. Granted, Felina bras have larger sizes.:)
- get used to underwire, you will need the support!
- Padding, everything's padded now, even if you don't want/need it.
- You think they get sore during TOM with an A/B cup, wait till they're larger! You may have to eliminate some caffeine and chocolate from your diet to prevent that.

Now, that may not be true for everyone, but I used to have a nice little lingerie collection, which I know I wouldn't have now. :( Well, off my soapbox! I'm HOPING with some weight loss, I'll also lose a bra size or two!

Ok, I have to tell you this, although my hubby won't like it. My DH and I parked at Walgreens. In the window high above us, was a row of flesh colored mounds. In the center of each mound was a darker protrusion. My DH looked up and did a double-take. I looked up too, and smirked. He says "do you see what I see?" I reply "Of course, those are piggy banks in the window." He says "Don't they look like....", and I laughed and said "And I'm the one on drugs! (for my back pain that is). He would not believe me until we walked into the store. There they were, rows of ceramic piggy banks. Hilarious!

Sparkle - just looked at your photos at Shapeshakers! Amazing! You should be so proud of yourself.

Was there a consensus on the My Story board?

Debelli

Hey Y'all:wave:

Can't believe the day is just about shot-does seem to go by too fast.

Went to some garage sales today-not many out there, but was able to find Eli a pair of lamps he asked me to keep an eye out for at SB-you'd think they'd be able to buy him some for some end tables:rolleyes: Anyhow, I got him 2 black ceramic tall jar shaped type ones with the shades still wrapped in plastic-$4 for the pair. He also asked me to keep on the look out for a flower arrangment for the ladies bathroom-got a real pretty one for $1-other than that, really nothing out there today:(

The scale is still up and I can feel the bloat big time! It's weird, it's like I feel like I'm in mid-cycle, but it's too early. I just hope the scale starts to drop back down. Keeping excellent track of my food today. I';ve definitely exceeded my carb limit-have to watch that today, should only eat some protein to even things out. Poor Eli, well, let's just say the day isn't over and I've already had 40 grams of fiber:eek:

I had the strangest dream the other night. I dreamt I was being wheeled into surgery to have my arms, legs, stomach, etc. taken care of and I saw the Dr. at the desk and he was making the bill out and I saw that it was $70K! I said "Forget it, I'll just have to live like this, I'm not paying THAT!" I guess it's weighing on my mind a bit.

MISSGRACE, hope you can get back on the wagon-I think it's hard to get back on track when you've fallen off, but not impossible. That's exciting about your friend and their new addition!

LIZ, I'm down 70lbs and my boobs haven't decreased much either, though they do look like those balloons that are like punching bags-THAT'S what mine look like-imagine deflated ones of those!

MELF, the bargain hunting is in the blood! VIV & MEL can attest to that, that is, unless they are JAPS, then money is no object! I just don't have the $$ to throw to the wind, so I do make wise choices. The way I eat Asian pears, they BETTER be a good price. I wish I could get some cactus pears at a good price now-I'm hooked on those too, but with them being on average betwee $1-1.29, and not much to them, I'll refrain and stick to the AP. I don't think your Mother is really angry with you, I don't believe she truly understands what she's saying at this time of her life. As you said, it's probably this terrible Alzaheimers that's progressing-wish there was something I could do to help, but do know that we are all here for you!

TREE, thanks for you FF input, sometimes I get so busy I don't get one posted and I appreciate anyone who posts something that day. I believe you are right about that first bite. BUT, I know personally, once I start, there's no stopping me-I'm better off not taking that first bite. Loved the piggy story!! LOL!

BUSDEB, oye, I hope you don't get worse, that would be terrible. Please, take care of yourself!!! Try to do your best to eat something-soup and toast maybe??

THUNDER, CONGRATS! You hit a great milestone!! Good for you. Keep up the great work!

BOB, got your e-mail, will call you later, too lazy to type:rolleyes: Okay, you got your favorite team, but darn, those CANES sure did good today!!

Okay gals, the MY STORY BOARD will be worked on this week, so please, start typing up your storys so we can get them posted. I will start the new board not this week, but the following week-to give everyone time to get theirs together, including Moi. We will keep the board name simple, just MY STORY BOARD and then you all can decide what individual titles you'd like to name your own. If you need some ideas, just e-mail me and I'll try to help. I have a few ideas I can help you with, but try to come up with something catchy, that's part of making it your own:)

Time to go, I'll check in with you all sometime tomorrow. Eli's off, we have the kids and have a friends 1 year old sons b.day party to go to. Also, I guess it's time to go see my Grandparents, haven't seen them since July-not looking forward to seeing my Grandmother, but Gramps is a sweetie!

Hi everybody:wave:
I'm still here. Just a quickie tho. Got in a super workout this am after not doing anything yesterday- just needed a day off! But today I was able to add more weight and higher levels to the stationary bike program and do a fast walk w/ Cleo. We had a major scare with a really big German Shepard running loose snarling and snapping at us. Cleo cowered behind me- good protective watchdog that she is) so I was really scared. Finally the dog's owner appeared and growled at me almost as much as the dog. Geez, I guess we interrupted her morning coffee or something.
Today's big challenge is dh's birthday. We are going out to dinner at a local inn that I love- will have to be really careful. Then he asked me to make his favorite cake, which is an old family recipe- Nana Leah's Bundt Cake- with choc chips and chopped walnuts in it. I put a pile of grapes on the counter while I was baking it so I wouldn't inhale the batter or the chips. The whole house smells of it! We'll see if I can still eat grapes when everyone else eats cake tonite! The gooey grocery store stuff doesn't tempt me, but this one's GOOD and all tied up emotionally w/ my grandmother who was the woman I loved most in the world. She raised me for my first few years, then I took care of her for her last few years....gosh, food is just too emotional.

Wish me luck! Yeah, Deb, the bargains are in the blood. My grandparents were antiques dealers (nice word for pawnbrokers, Oh the stereotype!) and sure taught me how to bargain.

Well, gotta go get beautiful for dinner or at least find some clothes that won't fall off me. Will try real hard to stay OP and post tomorrow!

I guess GATOR has settled in to
SUSAN'S stadium by now..the game starts at 7:30pm

Oh my goodness! I haven't posted anything to this thread all week, except to wish Sef happy birthday. Unfortunately I don't have time to catch up, so I'm going to try to keep up next week.

Congrats to all the losers this week. It sure is nice to see the numbers on the scale get lower.

Keep trying your best everyone who didn't have a loss. Your hard work will eventually pay off. I know it's difficult when you don't see the numbers going down, but think about how your health is improving. Soon the scale/tape measure will budge.

Thanks to all who explained what SGWW was. I had figured out the WW-whole wheat. I knew that as soon as someone told me I'd hit myself upside my head--Stone Ground. Now if I had just read the label on the flour bag............Silly me.

Welcome to all the New people on the board. This is a wonderful place. There's lots of helpful info and the people are so very friendly and very helpfuland supportive.

To EVERYONE here I've been thinking about you all. I haven't forgotten you!

My week in Brief
I've been doing a Fall cleaning. Really scrubbing everything. That's been a big part of me being away from the computer.

I was bad one day this week. Almost all bad carbs!! Bad Zanne. I bought a big container of these really amazing oatmeal cookies. Shouldn't have had the first one. Had way too many. It was bad all day. Had chips at night. Didn't feel well at all. I guess the only good that came of it, was that I now realize my body doesn't like all that sugar and it'll make me try harder to stay OP.

Friday we got a call from the school to pick up DS: they think he has pink eye. DH went to get him and I called the doc and got DS squeezed in just before she left the office.

I'd also been getting ready for DS's b-day party today. Food prep, decorations etc. Couldn't do too much with him home. And then to get the drops in his eyes!!! We have to wrestle with him for an hour. He's just turned 4 but is really strong.

We had the family over today--well some of them. We told everyone about the pink eye and gave them the option whether or not to come. I was pretty good today and only had one small piece of cake. Boy was it sweet! Yuck. Kind of made me shiver with each mouthful. Still have some cake left, but I have no hankering for it. I used to be able to eat huge pieces. Guess I learned my lesson from earlier this week.

I have lost another pound since WIW. I was really happy, especially after my bad binge day. I'll take it. But like DH said--don't push your luck or it may come back and bite you on the bum. In my case it would just move in and sit around my gut!

It's getting late. Better go. I WILL try to keep up next week.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Wet & windy day here in SW LA. Had tornados in our area. Several homes destroyed & lots of wind damage. We were under a tornado warning this morning & had to get our patients out of their rooms & into the hallway in case of flying glass. The tornado that was spotted in our immediate area was 6 miles SW of us. We were spared. But our electricity went out at 9am & we ran on auxillary power till 2:30 pm. Interesting day to say the least.

Miss Grace You said "your down to a 36B?!! I think that was my training bra!! he,he,he! what a dream!!!" Girl, I really had a good laugh at that one. I'm glad no one walked into the room when I was sitting here laughing out loud all by myself!

BusDeb Oh girl, that sounds like a full fledge cold! No appetite? Chicken brooth & hot lemon tea is what seems to make me feel better when I'm like that. Love your little yellow bus there...that's cute!

Thunder, Enjoyed our chat tonight. Sure will have to check out the SF Surejell the next time I go shopping. Heading off to church in A.M. too. We have a new preacher coming tomorrow in view of a call. After church, we're heading for Gueydan for a family reunion. We are planning to eat before we go cause they are having gumbo, potato salad, etc, so I'm not taking any chances of getting hunger & having to give in to all that. LOL Mom will be there & for the first time this year, I think, all 3 of my girls will be together with me. At least for a short time. Really looking forward to that. Plan to bring the camera to take some pictures. Every year, this reunion seems to fall on my week end to work, as it did this year too, but because things are slow at work right now, I was able to take tomorrow off. Horrah!!

Tree, LOL.. that was funny...ceramic piggy banks??? Does dh need an eye exam?? LOL

Debbie, Don't think I've ever had Asian or cactus pears. Are they very different from the bartlet pears? I have been looking for your hummus recipe & can't seem to locate it. Thought sure I had copied it into a file, but can't find it there either. Help?? LOL

Bob Great to see you posting again! Have really missed you on the board.

Well it's getting late & I need to head for bed. Got to get up early in AM. Have a super Sunday everyone!

Hi all. I've been battling the crazy computer this week, so I haven't been on much. I've been really BAD this week too:( Seems that I got off the track and couldn't get back on. We're going to my Mom's to celebate her 80th birthday, so I'll try to abstain from the cake.

Hope everyone's doing well. Hopefully I'll be able to check in more often this week.

Good Sunday Morning All:wave:

Well, there's not many of those days that I can say that I'm proud of myself, but today is not one of them. I didn't sleep well at all yesterday, went to be around 11:30-midnight and woke up just before 3am-couldn't fall back asleep so was tossing and turning all night long. I finally urged my bod out of bed and decided to get in my walk/jog-I was so tired, my legs felt like logs, but I got out and did my 4.5 miles in 50:33-so for that, I'm a happy camper today. Gives me 26 miles for the week:D Oh and I did 10 situps-forgot to mention I bought a sit-up board for $2 yesterday:D

Suppose to get cooler here this week, looking forward to it-cooler for us is in he 70's. Since I don't take this week, I'll be out early in the mornng for my walks and I'm hoping the cooler air will let me get in some new faster times-we'll see.

Yesterday I journaled every single morsel that entered my mouth. Sometimes I get sloppy as the day goes on, but yesterday I was as presise as I could be-only thing hard to decipher was a chick pea and bulgur dish Eli made, but pretty well figured it out. I usually figure a bit high-like if something is 91 calories, I'll figure it at 95. I was on my high end of 1200-1400 calories, had 1440, not too bad. My other ratios were good too. Could of used more water though. Will do the same today as I'm still up 4lbs from my low and would like to see if it has anything to do with my eating, though I doubt it. I shouldn't be up, but I really shouldn't lose more when I was at 121. To stay at 121 I would require 1450 calories, so really, I'm within my range.

MEL, I'm sure you did wonderful at dinner last night. I think it must be a Jewish (and Italian, not that I am Italian, but I hear we are similar in this way) thing with food. I know just about every picture taken of me at family functions, there's always food in front of me, if not in my mouth. The mention of your Grandmother brings me fond memories of my favorite Grandmother, who lived far away from me, but I remember her taking me to a bakery with the best cheese danish I've ever had-one of my fav. food memories with her. I wish she had been closer to have more time with her to have memories of baking, or doing other things with her. It's been 14 years since she's gone and I think about her just about every day-esp. now that I watch CROSSING OVER. Funny, my Great-Grandfather was a jeweler-my Grandfather loves buying things from pawnbrokers. Def. being thrify is in the blood;)

BOB, thanks for that wonderful compliment. As some see it as being cheap, I see it as going out for the hunt and then making the kill. I have the toll free number at work-will try to call you Monday morning.:)

BUSDEB, glad to hear you are feeling better, don't over due it before your 100%!

ZANNE, CONGRATS on another pound! Thanks for fessing up about those oatmeal cookies. Not that I ever wish anyone to feel bad from eating junk off plan:s: but it's one of the things that has kept me on track this whole time. I get sick enough as it is from hormones, I sure have no desire to eat junk not on SB and get sick, so stories like yours keep me on track. So the birthday boy has pink eye? That's an awful bday present to get-hope he's doing better and no one else gets it.

MELF, those tornados are too close for comfort to you! That must be scary. Thank goodness you weren't directly affected. Asian pears look a bit like an apple, but colored somewhat like a cross between a bartlett and a bosc, sometimes they are yellow, other more brown. They are very crisp, but very juicy. They are great with fiber! A 6oz AP has 6 grams of fiber! I absolutely love them! The cactus pears are new to me-at first I didn't like them, very, very seedy-hard seeds too. They have a green and a red variety. I like the red better. You have to be careful in handling them, miniscule thorns can get in your fingers. The skins are thick and once peeled, there's really not all that much to them. They are the lowest GI fruit I found on the list. A 4oz CP (or prickly pear as some call it) has 4 grams of fiber. I try to eat the fruits with the most fiber, like raspberries and the ones mentioned above. The hummus recipe is on the AUGUST 2001 RECIPE BOARD Have a good time with the family.

MUSIC, hope you are able to resist that cake today;) Have a wonderful time with your Mom.

NASCAR, enjoy watching the races today. :D

E-mailed RALY, LINMAE, CB & LAMAP-heard from all but LAMAP so far and they all said they'll be back on the board soon, and to say hello:wave:

Time to hit the shower. We have to be at this party at Noon. Doesn't look like nice weather and it's outside, but thankfully, it's at a park under a shelter, so if it rains, at least we shoudn't get wet. Doubt I will eat anything there, it's a carnival theme (when did 1 year old bdays get so extravagant?). No lf hotdogs, so I won't eat, not eating hamburgers, don't like eating mystery meat, so I guess I'll eat something before we leave. Michael won't eat anything there as well-good time to get in my water consumption!

Please remember, TOMORROW IS MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY and the new board starts. If you have any words of wisdom, quote or stories you think would be motivating, please, try to post them tomorrow.

Have a wonderful day!

Debelli I know what you mean about reading about other people's slip-ups. It makes you realize that we're all only human. Reading this board (USUALLY;) ) keeps me on track. But reading that eating something off plan made someone feel sick, will probably keep the reader away from the "bad" stuff. Glad I could help you out!:D

My FIL is a terrific bargain hunter. My house as well as his, is full of "treasures" he's found. He even bought a baby grand piano for MIL at a "contents" sale. He gets everything for a good price. That's his hobby. He could have worse vices! Like you, he loves to get a good bargain. Enjoy your treasure hunts!

Just an FYI to those who buy produce from Oriental Stores. I found out in my trip to Taiwan, that the rule is "the bigger the better".
For example, carrots (just an example), fuji apples, and asian pears are most desirable when BIG. However I prefer smaller pieces, as they are tastier (also more sugary :o ). I used to get Fuji apples at the OS, but I find the smaller ones available in the local groceries more to my liking. I don't know if the smaller size balances out the higher sugar content or not.

Debelli - Re: prickly pear (cactus pear). The best way to remove the fine hair-like stickers is to flame them. A long handled lighter (like for grills and fireplaces) works well, a cigarette lighter will do in a pinch. I'm not sure how well this works for eating, but it does a nice job when removing from human skin after pruning cacti (just don't get too close with the flame!). Have you tried the prickly pear pads? I haven't, but I've seen them in the grocery too.

Looks like a slow day on the board, so I was able to read it qickly & able to get in a post before I head back to church. DH left early for choir practice. He's been playing the cd in the truck.Strange to hear Christmas music already, but found myself singing along today..LOL

Anyway, got to go to the family reunion for a while. Saw Mom & all 4 of my gs. DD came in from Texas & oldest dd was there, but not my baby girl :( We took a family pic with all of us & my Mom. Can't wait to get it back. Had a really good turn out. Some cousins I had not seen in a long time. It was all held outside & it was a beautiful day for it, even though the yard was a little wet from all the rain yesterday.

Didn't even pass near the dessert table. DH visited there, but he made sure to stand across the yard from me with his bowl.

Debbie, thanks for locating that hummus recipe for me. I knew I had seen it, but just couldn't find it. Gone there now to make a hard copy & think I'll do that as soon as I get back from church.

The scale was a little up this am, not sure why, but I do know one thing, it's GOT to come back down. Will seriously work on that this week.

We are leaving Friday for a week of vacation. DH's brother leaves in OK & they have not seen each other for several years. We will be visiting him, then to Waco, TX to visit my Nanny ( Mom's sister who I lived with for almost 2 yrs when I was a teen). Can't wait to see her & my cousin. So ladies, if you don't see alot of me the next couple of weeks, don't think that I have deserted all of ya. I'll post as often as I can this week before we leave, but it's my long work week, so just not sure how much I'll be able to get here.

Evening All:wave:

Not much going on down here, raining today, but at least it waited til after we went to the party. I ate right before we left. They had hotdogs, hamburgers, cotton candy, popcorn and a host of other foods, not one which I could (or would) of eaten, so I'm glad I ate before we left.

Went to visit my Grandparents & Great Aunt-didn't stay too long, kids made out like bandits, both pocketing $20 each. Grandmother didn't say a thing about my weight, a major first for her-I think it's the Alzheimers honestly, she just forgot to find something wrong with me this time:rolleyes:

Felt a bit funky this afternoon, sorta barfy, but no barf and now I feel better. Hoping maybe the scale will go down-usually it does when I feel like this. Realized it's almost mid-cycle, so maybe that's the reason.

ZANNE, down here in FL, there aren't the treasures you find up in the Northern states, like at barn or basement sales. Last time I was in Rochester, I almost had to put the kids on the luggage rack, I came home with so much stuff-I love the garage sales up there!!! Once in a while though, I do find something worth while here. My Grandfather is the one who really finds the bargins, his house is littered with them!!!

TREE, hmm, may have to try that approach next time I buy the cactus pears. The Asian pears have been anywhere from 5 ounces a few months ago to over 11 ounces these past few weeks. I'll take whatever I can get, as long as THE PRICE IS RIGHT!:D Okay, what the heck is a PRICKLY PEAR PAD???:?:

MELF, sounds like you had a good time at the reunion and was able to stay OP. Let me know how your hummus turns out!! I'm SURE we'll hear from you before you leave on vacation, just remind us again you're leaving.

Okay gals, I'm outta here for the night-see you all with the new weekly board up and running tomorrow!!!

Hi all!

I'm about as useful as a t*t on a boar hog!!! If it's not one thing it's another!! I'm so bummed out! My left hand is bothering me so much today. I cannot grip with it and when I move it I get a huge stab of pain.

Yeah! I know the old joke, "Don't move it that way!" but your body just does things automatically, good or bad!

Tomorrow I have an appointment for NCS for lower limbs, I told you the doctor thinks I have neuropathy. Then I have to get a EKG which is just routine for checkup.

Did go to chjurch this a.m. I am not sick so no reason not to go. Of course, I could only hold Bible and hymnal with right hand.

Melf, you said dh was listening to CD of Christmas music. Is that choir music? Our choir is practicing our Christmas contata and we will sing it with canned music. Our director made tapes of our parts for us to practice with at home. During practice we use the CD music and piano. We did the same thing last year and it was great!

Yesterday I framed a couple of projects and stitched all evening, probably why hand is so bad today. But you can't sit around in a cocoon all day! I also put a lot of photos in albums. I ashamed to say some of the pictures were 3 and 4 years old!!!!!

Well, I think that's up to date. Have to play catch-up with posts tomorrow!!

Take care. sef

Hi all! Remember me. Sorry I havent posted in awhile but DH and I went on vacation and just got back yesterday. I managed to stay OP mostly, but it is hard in a restuarant.

I will be away from the board for a month or so. I have some things I need to deal with and feel I spend to much time on this board, so I have to attend to me first. My eating non OP food is somewhat out of control, and my exercising has become almost non-existant. I havent gained any weight, yet I havent lost any either. I feel I should be wearing a size smaller in clothing but Im not. Im still dealing with the loss of my father last year, which is some of my problem.

Anyway I will be thinking of you guys. Welcome to the newbies.

Good luck to you guys.

Hey Ladies,

Spent the weekend driving to Arkansas to visit a school that my DD is thinking of attending. She's a junior, so is taking her time and visiting places that she thinks she'd like to go to. It's a private church school and very small, only 1700 students. But they have a great vocal program and that's what she wants to do. The other church school she's thinking about is in Abeline, TX. It's larger and we still need to visit.

Tree: The occasion for the party dresses was homecoming dance for the older and a spirit dance for the younger. First time my baby girl ever wanted to wear a dress!

Music: We drove thru your neck of the woods, but I was dozing both ways so I didn't get to wave at you! If we end up at that college, I'll be burning up I30 for sure!

Don't have much time to check in with everyone individually, so I hope EVERYBODY has a great week coming up. Keep a positive thought in your heads. Know that we are all doing the best that we can to make ourselves healthy and happy.

Not much to report here. Have been mostly a bum this weekend. Was totally bummed when my noles got whupped up on by those ugly canes. We had flashes of brilliance, but we beat ourselves. Depression disapated though when I heard that Florida lost. WAR EAGLE!!! (Sorry GatorGal).

Other than that, spent all day Sun. cleaning because the in-laws are coming next weekend.

Will check in on the daily lunch log-in and see what wisdon Debelli has for Motivational Monday.

I hope everyone had a good weekend and heres to a great week of losing. :)

Talk to ya Monday!

Quickie before I hit the hay.

SEF, you do come up with some funny sayings that sure can make me laugh!! I bet you are a hoot in person-wish we lived closer! Hope all goes well with the Dr. visit today-please, let us know the outcome. I hate hearing that you are having so much pain-I hope they can give you something to ease it up so you won't have to feel like this. LOL! Photo's in albums? I have boxes of the kids pics that haven't gotten into a single album, plus they're not dated, so consider 3-4 years nothing! I keep saying, "one day..."

BOB, does Skeeter sit next to you and bark at the TV when you yell? I can just imagine him next to you with his little college jersey on! LOL!

CAT, hope you can come to terms with whatever you are trying to figure out-we'll be here whenever you decide to return:) If I can help in any way, don't hesitate to ask!!

JRED, they start going to colleges and looking when they are a JR? I thought I'd have until the start of his Senior year for that. When are you going out to Abilene??

JMUIR, ummm, ugly Canes? I'm not a big UofM fan, but when they are doing well, like they are, I do root them on. I never went there, but have family who've graduated from there-so, they aren't sooo, ugly!

Nite nite!

Well I am glad to report that I woke this morning feeling like I almost didn't have a cold yesterday. It is amazing how quickly I recovered. Maybe this WOE is going to help me in lots of ways that I have not thought about. I think maybe eating healthy foods atributed to my quick recovery. Any thoughts on that?

I was about to attend church today. Then came home and we bid on golf clubs on ebay all afternoon and then lost the ones we wanted at the last minute because I was getting some cantaloupe for DH. Oh well we will try again later I guess. We joined a country club two weeks ago and DH can not decide on what kind of clubs he wants . So therefore he has not been out to play yet. He got of golfing for a while so I sold his clubs at a garage sale. Anyway we will find him some and SOON!

I was thinking today that we have been in this house now for almost a year. It will be around Thanksgiving. I don't think I have ever told you all that we bought this farm that belonged to my grandparents. We love it here. It is out in the country and we have 2 cows now and hope to get a couple of horses in the next year or so. Anyway was just thinking about that and wanted to share. You all are great !!!

Catlover....I hope things go well for you and we hope to see you again soon.

Debelli.......I hate when you go to get togethers and there is nothing for us to eat. Good that you ate before you left.

TV.....where have you been all weekend??

Thanks so much for the well wishes from everyone.

Bye all....have a great week....cya tomorrow.:dizzy:

Debeli, yes, I sure will remind you before we leave at the end of the week. Hoping to also find Public Libraries where we go too so I can check in like I did when we went on vacation in June.

Sef, Yes, dh is praticing for the church choir's Christmas Cantata. The choir director made them some practice cd's instead of tapes, so that's what he was playing in the truck today. The name of it is Bethehem Child I think. Or at least that is the name of the first song he said.

Have a good Monday everyone!!
