Merry Post-Christmas!! How was everyone's holiday? I'm drinking coffee I made in my new coffee grinder :coffee:

I'm wondering...what were your favorite presents? Mine was the sound of my almost-six-year-old son going down the stairs as fast as he can (he's still a two-foot-on-each-step kind of kid) and then screaming HOLY COWS!! and coming back up the stairs to us and screaming SANTA WAS HERE!! That gets me every year...and every year its cuter and cuter. I spend the first 15 minutes of watching the kids open presents with a box of tissues...I get all emotional at the sheer glee on their faces opening more presents than they should be getting. It is truly a blessing. :cloud9:

My favorite unwrappable present, I think, was my coffee grinder. It makes GREAT freshly ground coffee.

So...let's hear what you all got... :present:

I got an engraved claddagh ring from the love of my life, a brick from Wrigley Field (I'm a HUGE Cubbies fan), a gift card to Best Buy, and money for college from his mom.. a mini Wrigley, a Cubs ornament, and a gift card to buy my schoolbooks from his dad and stepmom.. a gorgeous sweater and necklace from my mom, various Christmas ornaments, a spa kit, and some books. I had a VERY blessed Christmas!!

emotionally.. and I had a hard time writing this because it means so much to me.. I haven't seen my grandfather in twenty years. my father just wouldn't allow it. around the 10th of December, right after my birthday, my mother called me into her room and gave me over a thousand dollars worth of bonds that my grandfather had given me for college. so of course, I promptly Googled him, found his phone number, and called him. I now have a wonderful relationship with a man I wish I could have known my whole life. my mom is out in Phoenix visiting my brother and sister-in-law, and I couldn't afford to go. so my boyfriend and his family more than made up for it by making me a part of theirs. this has honestly been the most wonderful Christmas for me.

Favorite moment for me was seeing my hubby father for the first time sober & coherent. To go from never once having spoken to me in the 7 years I've known the family to not only talking to me but giving me a hug ... well it just blew me away. I have hopes for his future instead of wondering when we'd get that call in the middle of the night...

My favorite actual gift was my husband surprising me. I didn't know he still had it in me. We were done with gifts, and he goes into the kitchen and pulls out this beautiful mug filled with candy. I said thank you and set it down and he just kept staring at me. So I figured he wanted one of the candies and I gave him one, then took one for myself and something caught my eye at the bottom of the mug... He bought me a beautiful necklace with amethyst - my favorite. So sweet. The gift could have been anything, knowing he still likes to surprise me and make me smile was worth everything.

My best Christmas moment was when my 21 yr. old step-daughter arrived and gave me a big hug. We have never been particulary close, although I have tried.

My favorite gift was DH got me an elliptical. I really wanted one. Now, to build up some endurance on it.

My DH finished my fireplace! We've been looking at the bare wall for 4 years and we couldn't decide on rock or tile or metal or wood or just what to do to finish it. Last summer I came up with a really nice design to finish it (we had a problem because we really can't put up a mantle). The design is with brass and stainless steel and DH got it all installed on Christmas eve (all except some caulking which he'll finish next weekend). It looks beautiful!

My other favorite things were telling my DS the story of DH buying him the Nintendo Wii (had to go to 2 stores, stand in line and hope for a ticket--no go at the first store--and then wait around 2 hours after getting the ticket in order to actually buy the thing). DS listened raptly and then gave DH a big, big hug. We really had DS going--he was convinced we couldn't find one yet we did get it the day after Thanksgiving! Playing the Wii is tons of fun, too! Boxing is a great workout! It was also DS's birthday.

Another great memory--making my MIL cry. I guess our present really surprised her!

Eightbitgirl-sounds like you have some amazing people pulling for your education. : )

My best Christmas moment was taking my two littlest ones and my little nephew out to sprinkle reindeer food in the snow. Every year there is a little blinking red light in the sky at just the right moment. They were thrilled beyond words.

My best gift was a family pass to the zoo. We will make great use of that this year.

I am so glad that I read this thread. I am so glad to see that to everyone that has posted mentioned that their best gift was not a thing. I got a few things, which I appreciate, but nothing compares to hanging out with my 15 month old twin nephews, (See my avatar). I just love em to bits. I had a few little gifts from them. "They" got me two little necklaces for them to play with while I'm holding them. So maybe that is a gift for them. Anyway, even if dealing with the adults in my sis-in-law's family was strained and difficult, the kids were great. It was one of the best Christmases (that doesn't look like it's spelled right.) I've ever had.

And oh, the other greatest gift of this Christmas as I posted in the mini-goal section was I finally hit 199.

At the risk of sounding totally shallow: best gift was the pink iPod Nano & iTunes gift card. Not so much because of what it is, though of course that rocks, but that their presence means my husband for once paid attention to me and to what I want. I'll start dropping hand-carved birch crochet hook hints now; our anniversary's not far off. ;)

The best present for me was looking at those unopened packages in a little pile. Due to work circumstances, family and friends are hundreds of miles away, and Christmas sometimes gets a little lonely. To have so many people remember DH and me with a package -- and in this rural, mountainous area, you have to send everything through the post weeks in advance to make sure it's delivered on time, so they went to even more of an effort -- meant so much to me, to feel connected to all those people I love even if we can't be together in person. It really didn't matter much what was in those packages.

In terms of concrete gifts, though, my favorite would have to be the frozen 8-pound pre-smoked turkey from my friend. The perfect present for me, a person who never cooks. And, of course, it has the added benefit of being the perfect present to share with my kitties!

My boyfriend cooked me (and my cat) an amazing Christmas lunch. He really enoyed cooking it as well and was really excited about cooking it (it was his first ever roast, bless him). Although I probably ate a little bit too much...

I also got a copy of '28 Days' on DVD. I love that movie!!

My DH would have brought home Burger King or suggested I order Dominos!

I fondly remember the ONE time he did cook for me. It was a breakfast meal (served at dinner) that was eggs, toast, and sausage all piled up with a Greek yogurt sauce over it all. Very yummy! That was the only time he's cooked for me (we were dating at the time). We've been married over 18 years!

My favorite Christmas moment is seeing how excited my 10 & 2 year old were on Christmas morning and the excitement & joy they received when opening their gifts.

Now on to my favorite materialistic gift.. I got a new diamond ring.. DH hasn't bought me a diamond since we were engaged.. we've been married for 11 1/2 years.. I've been telling him for a year that's what i'd like.and it's absolutely beautiful! It's a right hand ring.

My favorite gift was a quiet xmas day with just my hubby and kids....no big gathering with 20-30 people...like usual.....this year every gift was so well thought out....I feel really loved and valued...hubby always always picks the perfect gifts....and this year was no exception....he makes the holidays so special in every way....and today when I went to work he got all the recycling done, and cleaned up all the christmas clutter.....when I invite a houseful of people and he knows it will be a 'mistake' he goes along and helps out and never says I told you so...he is my greatest gift.....he even helps with the food prep and runs a pile of errands.

Material wise....a massage chair that sits in my recliner...and massages my upper and lower back...heaven....too good to be true...a pedicure and a manicure....to treat myself in the spring...and loads of candles and earrings...my other vices.

The BEST gift ever for me was my son coming home from Iraq the end of November. It was only for two weeks but the best two weeks ever! So it was an early present for me.

I recieved several cooking items like a toaster oven, waffle maker, and skillet. Although I have told my father numerous times that I cannot cook, I am hoping that having things to cook with will teach me not to go out for fast food and cook healthier alternatives.

My favorite present, would have to probably be spending Christmas with my Aunt Brenda and her family. They are the most loving people, and have always helped me and supported me. My Aunt Brenda gave me a prayer box, and my little cousins gave me books. Plus I'm taking up Dance Dance revolution again because of a new game for it I recieved.

My favourite present was waking up to my boyfriend on our first Christmas morning together! (soppy I know)

And putting on the Eeyore pyjamas he bought me, and later on the Nectarine Blossom and Honey perfume.

I really enjoyed him opening his presents, new work shirts, a briefcase and a tie (from Atticus the cat!)

My favorite Christmas moment was giving & bringing in two boxes full of gifts for our friends DK's and their little faces all lighting up at seeing how many there were, so so cute!

As for gifts, I would have to say the best presents we already had in advance, my in-laws bought us a brand new bed for our bdays/anniversay/Christmas and we bought ourselves a Brand New Car in November, we were going to wait on the new car, but our old one decided to die.

We're still getting each other something else (besides the car), but it won't be until our next payday. We've been working all the holidays and overtime.

Happy New Year!

My best Christmas gift was my MIL coming to visit. I know, I know. What do you mean your MIL?! :yikes: Well, DH and her haven't exactly been on speaking terms since her divorce from his stepdad earlier this year. It's been a source of major stress for him. I don't know why, but she decided to break the silence and come for a visit. She even apologized to him while she was here! (The not speaking to him was because ex-hubby was telling her untrue things about my DH and when DH denied them, MIL believed her ex.) MIL and I don't always see eye to eye on things, and I did my best to grin and bear her. I think it was the closest thing to a "normal" holiday he's had in a loooong time. I was so happy to see DH smiling and laughing Christmas day. That was the best thing!

As far as a "real" gift goes, it would have to be the mountain bike my parents got me. Dad is an avid cyclist, so I know I got a great bike that will service me well. I just need to get used to riding again!

I got lots of stuff, but my best gifts were the looks on my family and friends faces when they opened they gifts that i bought them. I actually had money to buy them something they really wanted. Also i got to see my mom who i have not seen in the longest time. I got to spend my last day in my hometown with my super great boyfriend, and (sadly) the tears my sister cried the day after Christmas when i moved out-of-state. I only say it's a good gift because she cries over no one, and her tears let me know that she truely cared about me. I also enjoyed going to church with my dad who i had never gone to church with before! :)

My favorite wrapped gifts had to be the promise ring my boyfriend gave me, the family 250 year old diamond ring my grandma gave me, the gift card to some unknown place that my brother got me, even though he had no money at all and still thought of me, the cross my dad bought me to replace the one that was stolen from me, and the watch my mom gave me. I had broken the watch 2 years ago and could not find another band the correct size to fit it, so i could never wear it. My sister took the watch out of my jewlrey box, mailed it to my mom, and my moms boyfriend searched everywhere and found a band to fit it! Mom shocked me when she gave it to me Christmas night. :)
