View Full Version : Calling All Challenge Chicks: The Seven Day Challenge

OK, chicks! Our Challenge group has seemed to fall by the wayside (including myself, I know). I'm here to gather everyone back together, as well as any newcomers, and get us back on track!

I'm proposing a quick Seven Day Challenge to jump start us for the next round.

Here's the skinny:
1. Pick 2-3 goals to focus on for the next seven days.
2. Meet ALL of your goals every day for the next seven days.
3. If you mess up one day, you have to start over (i.e. the next day you're back on track is Day One).
4. Primary goal is to make it all seven days perfectly OP. When you've completed seven OP days in a row, rinse and repeat as needed. :)

Post your goals here for everyone to see, then let us know how you're doing. Because you know, accountability is key.

So who's with me?

My goals for the Seven Day Challenge:

1. Drink at least 80 oz. of water.
2. Exercise every day, even if it's just a 10-minute walk with the dog. Just DO *something* active.
3. Eat more fruits and veggies (which means eating LESS junk). At least one with every meal, and snacks should be a fruit or veggie as well.

I will track my progress here as follows:
1 :jig: for every OP day completed
1 :drill: for falling off track

Count me in!!!!! This is just what I need to kick off the Thanksgiving Challenge! Here goes....

1. Water...3L a day, not so hard, I drink out of and refill a 1.5 L bottle, sip at it all night on my 12 hr 7p-7a shift, and we have a water cooler so the water is always fresh and cold...my best investment so far.

2. Exercise...Well I know I'll get in my 90 min Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, so my goal will be to add in Thursday and try to do SOMETHING the other days. I tend to think of those days as "days off" and veg out a bit.

3. Diet.....no CHEATS!! I had a rough weekend between ladies poker night and bowling night on Saturday (who knew bowlers are such beer drinkers? LOL) I NEED to eat more veggies!!! *in fact, i already have some homemade spaghetti sauce in the slow cooker, complete with fresh peppers, mushrooms and zucchini, and plan to serve it over spaghetti squash for supper....I never in a million years thought I would like spag. squash, but I actually like it! and so do the kids!

4. STAY MY BUTT OFF THE DAMN SCALE!!!!!!!!! Why oh why do I weigh myself every stinkin day!! Why, oh why, do I step onto the scales at work every time I pass one!? So I'll be hiding my scale TODAY. Well, I'll weigh in on wednesday for the T-day challenge but other than that, NO!

5. NO FAST FOOD THIS WEEK... Yes Subway, this means you too! Ok, maybe once over the weekend....but I MUST cook my meals this week~I will not make excuses...even though I do have a tough work week, Monday-Wed-Thurs, 7p-7a....

Good enough start for now.....Oh yes and this challenge for all of us...at least five positive self esteem thoughts every day.

Great idea, count me in.

1. Stay below 1500 cals a day.
2. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
3. Drink entire contents of water jug every day. (it holds about 6 cups of water)

MONDAY: one down, 6 to go. :carrot:
TUESDAY: Glad i signed up for this, i would not have exercised otherwise. :carrot:
WEDNESDAY: Had to push myself to exercise, but it was done.:carrot:
THURSDAY: Got them all in, weigh-in day tomorrow.:carrot:
FRIDAY: I blew it. No exericise, WELL over 1500 cals, i did drink my water. At least i did something right today. ha ha That is okay though, back on track and starting over. Gosh darn it.

Starting over:
Day 1: Made it. Worked in the yard ALL day. Drank more water than a fish. Too hot and tired to eat. :carrot:
Day 2: Very good day. Gots lots of exercise in, stayed within my bounds.:carrot:
Day 3: Doing well. Wasnt hungry at all today, drank lots of h2o, and worked my rearend off with Gunner peterson. :carrot:
Day 4: Good day. Great with water. Good with exercise, wasnt really in the mood, made myself do it anyway, which is a good feeling. Food was under 1500, as per goal. :carrot:
Day 5: I did REALLY well considering the stress today had. My elliptical caught all my frustration, used to my fridg would. Yaa for me. :carrot:

1. Write down EVERYTHING that i eat, aim to stay around 1500 cals a day.
2. Exercise 3 times in 7 days.
3. Stop getting take-outs, cook from scratch things that are good for me!

Good luck everyone!!

Welcome everyone! I'm so glad to have you all here with me!

Yesterday went well, and Day Two is off to a good start.
:jig:

Also, just for the record, I've decided to add a longer-term goal for myself: no fast food until after my wedding (October 7). That's so completely doable, I just have to remember.

How are the rest of you doing? How did Day One go for you?

Hey there Elisha, that's my name BTW, except my name is spelled Elycia, are you planned on getting to a particular weight by your wedding? You have done so well so far. Congrats on your current weight loss and on your wedding. I am sure you will be a beautiful bride.

Elycia

miss_elisha
08-22-2006, 02:36 PM
I don't have a specific weight in mind for my wedding. Any I lose will be a positive thing!

Most of the weight I've lost to this point came off about 2 years ago, and I actually lost more, I just gained it back. *blargh*

I keep trying to get back to the losing, and it hasn't worked very well so far. But I'm still trying, and I guess that's the point, right?

Day Two went well, and now I'm working on Day Three!

Water, food, and exercise all decent yesterday.

Stacy and Elycia, I see you are both going strong! Keep up the good work!

How's everyone else doing?

Day 2 and feeling good!!

Yesterday i was completly OP!!! WOO HOO!!! I got my exercise in, ate well, though i think i need to have more veggies though. So I have one good day under my belt, bring on the rest, lets get rid of this 7 lbs!!

How is everyone getting on?! Way to go Elisha I see your on day 2 too, keep going!! We can all do this!!

angiepants78
08-23-2006, 11:32 AM
It's my second day too. It's going really well. I hurt my ankle yesterday. I don't know how but I'm glad I can still ride cause I can't do any other cardio right now. Keep up the great work everybody!!!

08-23-2006, 04:47 PM
Thats great that your still biking angiepants78, i would have probably used the ankle injury as an excuse!!! Im feeling really motivated today, wish i could remember this feeling when i crave junk food !!!

angiepants78
08-24-2006, 12:23 AM
I wanted to! I was like oh I don't think I can do anything but then I reminded myself that I have a nice pair of pants I want to get into. So I was like ok, doesn't hurt to ride the bike DO IT!!. But Today was so hard! I did not want to stick to my diet at all. But I did. Day two down!!!

pigginpodgey
08-24-2006, 09:39 AM
Good for you angiepants78 for keeping up with your plan, I have days like that a lot!!

So im on Day 3 of my 7 day challenge, and everything is out to get me!! Its TOM so i want to eat chocolate or anything else remotely sweet, I am also getting a cold, BUT i am going to take my inspiration from angiepants78 and NOT give up on myself, I am going to keep going with this!!! I will NOT give into the demon chocolate!! I am going to go for a 30 minute walk tonight, i read somewhere that gentle exercise like walking eases TOM cramps, so hopefully thats right!!

angiepants78
08-24-2006, 10:14 AM
Day 3 here too! I KNOW THAT FEELING!! I don't know why I crave chocolate during that time but it is too hard to resist. I've heard that exercise helps ease cramps. i don't know how true that is cause when I get mine I can't really do anything except eat chocolate. lol Keep up the great work. If you're good 90% of the time you can treat yourself 10% of the time. I read that some where. I keep telling myself it's only 7 days. I can do anything for 7 days. Easy easy!! And then I bribe myself saying ok you can have a treat after the 7 days and then I'm like YAY! I can do it! Good luck! My ankle is feeling better so I'm off to do some working out. We can do this we can do this!!!! WOOHOO! I'm trying to build up my energy. lol

OK, chicks, I'm sorry to report my I messed up on Day Three. Food and water were good, but I didn't get in any exercise. We didn't get home until around 9, and that's just too late for me. :(

So today I have to start again at Day One, and I get a :drill:

Today will be OP though! I have faith!

I hope you're all doing great!

Hey Ms Elisha. Aww, no workout yesterday. Well, one thing that helps me is that I get my workout out in first thing in the morning. While the girls are taking their morning nap, I use that opportunity to workout. If I wait until the end of the day, something inevitably comes up or I'm tired or something. Great job Elisha!

angiepants78
08-24-2006, 05:38 PM
miss_elisha It's awesome that you stuck to your other goals though! So way to go anyway! The eating part is the hardest for me. So far so good though. Exercise is becoming easier. Which is kind of weird cause I hate HATE doing it!! I try to get it done 1st thing too. If I really really don't want to work out i end up doing 20 minutes on the bike and thats it. My mind won't let me do any less.

GOOD luck to you miss_elisha! Even if you get home too late try to do some crunches or something. Anything is better than nothing.

That's for all my chickies...You know who you are! ;) And Elisha...thanks for setting this up! Keep up the great work! OMG...your wedding is looming right around the corner!

I'm sorry I've been negilgent in joining! Other than the fact that I haven't had time...I have no excuses! But I'm here now and I plan to follow through with my goals for the week because I need to get down to a magic # of 175!!! That will bring me down 10# since May and even though it seem lame, that's the best I've done in a long time! It will be nice to start fitting into my "smaller sizes" for the fall! And then I will start working on the next 5 #.

OK...so here's my goals (If I can still join in!)
1. Get in one serving (at least) of a fruit or veggie with each meal.
2. Drink 70 oz. water a day.
3. Journal every day if even over my points for the day!

That's it for this week. I will incorporate exercise further down the road because I know that this is going to be a battle! I've been trying for quite some time to exercise each morning , but I can't seem to do it! I am moving a lot in my job every day (and I'm looking for a new job, BTW) so that has to count for something even though its not cardio...

I've PM'd my buddies and hope that they will join in the fun! It's nice to see some new faces here!

Elycia...your little twins are just adorable!
Angiepants...hope your ankle heals soon!
Pigginpodgey...hope you got your walk in...Don't let that evil chocolate get the best of you  (TOM arrived for me yesterday, along with a raging Yeast infection this week...hasn't been fun!)

I'll check in tomorrow for sure!

 Hi everybody... it's been a long time

But I'm back on the proverbial wagon.... and looking forward to seeing some success.

Each day this week I will:
1. Drink 3 bottles of water
2. Get in at least 15 minutes of exercise
3. Journal my food intake and check in. (sorry folks you get all the gorry details)

Yay! Joy and Julie are here! YAY!!!

:grouphug:

I've missed you chicks!

Joy, how have you been? Anything new and exciting going on with you?

Julie, are you still at the nursing home for now? Are you looking for the same type of job somewhere else, or something completely different? Are you still doing WW? How is that going?

OK, so this weekend was wicked busy for me. Lots of shopping was done.

The good news: we got pretty much everything else we need for the wedding, so the only thing left to do is food. I also went clothes shopping and got a ton of stuff, including some new workout tennis shoes.

The bad news: the diet didn't go incredibly well this weekend. Eating out, no exercise, and not nearly enough water. You know what that means, chickies? It's back to Day One for me. *sigh*

So I reset my DietPower software and I'm going to start using it regularly again. I'm all stocked up on healthy food. And my body is crying out for more water and more exercise.

I'll probably miss exercising one evening this week, as we're considering getting a new car and we're going down to the dealership after work one day. It is hard for me to exercise in the morning because I already get up way too early and I don't get enough sleep the way it is. *sigh*

I know, I should just suck it up and do it anyway.

Saturday we're going to the opening WVU football game! Yay! Sunday is my family reunion, although I don't know if I'll be going or not (depends on whether or not my parents and/or grandparents go). Oh my goodness, every weekend for me is booked solid through the middle of October, mostly with wedding-related stuff. It's all good, just busy busy busy.

And work is crazy. After today I should have it a little easier, and they're hiring someone else to do the part of my job that I don't like, so that's good too. Today, however, it's likely that I'll have to be here late, because I have a HUGE deadline. Bah!

OH, I'm also going to start posting my daily menu again, because it helps me SO much.

Breakfast: 2 c. coffee w/FF creamer, 1 onion bagel w/LF cream cheese
Snack: Peach
Lunch: 3 oz. lean pork tenderloin, snap peas, 1/4 c. gnocchi w/LF alfredo, 1 square Dove Dark
Snack: Apple
Dinner: Spaghetti (made w/lean beef and whole wheat pasta), tossed salad

I need to drink a ton of water today. And everyday!
Exercise will be walking the dog, unless it decides to rain, in which case it will be the elliptical.

Wow, apparently I'm feeling chatty today!

OK, I need to get busy. Lots to do!

I hope you're all having a wonderful day!

Hi

Today started really well. I managed to get through the day until 7:30 pm... when DH offerred me a "buster bar" and I insisted on having it... followed by a bowl of chocolate almonds ... I ate so many I feel sick .... ughh

I managed to get in three bottles of water ... before 4pm I might add...

Before dinner we took the dog for a 30 minute walk... it's been quite a while since I've done any exercise... so I'm starting slowly.

FOOD TODAY
(B)Shreddies w/1% milk & x coffee w/cream (X2)
(L)Turkey & jarlsberg cheese on two pieces of whole wheat non flour bread & a peach.
(D)6oz barbequed steak, 3 small boiled potatoes with 2t butter, steamed green beans
(S)Buster bar and TOO MANY chocolate almonds.

I hope I can make it through the entire day tomorrow, my new DAY 1, without a melt down. I THINK I CAN, I THINK I CAN, I THINK I CAN, I THINK I CAN, I THINK I CAN...

Later chickadees,

Yesterday I...
:) Got in my fruits/veggies with each meal
:) Journaled all my intake (was over by 11 points, but still have 2 bonus points left for the week!
:( Didn't drink enough water! Waaaay under! Need to chug all day today!

That's all I have time for, so I'm starting over again today! :( Tonight is weigh in for WW for me! I'm hoping that little ticker will be moving this week...in the downward movement!

Yay Elycia! That's great that you made it through seven days! Congrats!

Vanilla and Meg, :welcome: If you need any help navigating the site, all you have to do is ask. We're here to help! Best of luck to you both!

Julie: Drink up, chick! Your body cannot function properly without enough water, you know that! But you did good on the other two accounts, and 2/3 isn't bad! Keep it up!

Joy: Exercise and water were both good! That's a good thing. Food is often my downfall as well. As long as we're doing good more often than not, I guess that is the point. So keep up the good work, and don't let that chocolate get to you!

Anyway...

Busy is me. It's ok. I got a lot done yesterday, and today is slightly easier.

Food and water were good yesterday, still no exercise. By the time I got home (which was late anyway), I was pissed off at the entire world and didn't want to have anything to do with anything.

I guess you'll have days like that.

There won't be exercise tonight either, as Steve and I are going to look at new cars this evening. Now, this may not sound like a big deal, but the dealership we're going to is about two hours away. But it's the best dealership we've found, really. We're not sure we're going to buy anything, as it depends on what kind of deal they're going to make us, but we're going to go down and look.

But food went as planned yesterday, and food today will be good as well.

Breakfast: 2 c. coffee w/FF creamer, 2 sl. ww bread, 1 T. LF mayo, Egg Beaters, 1 sl. FF cheese
Lunch: Peach Fresca, Lean Cuisine (I forget what flavor I brought), apple
Snack: Cherries!
Dinner: Subway, probably turkey on wheat with lots of veggies

OK, time to get working! Have a great day, chickies!

Hi

Only managed to get 1 1/2 bottles of water in today... Could have something to do with the six cups of coffee w/cream that I inhaled this morning.

I went for a 15 minute walk this morning during my break... to pick up coffee (of course).

FOOD TODAY
(B)porridge oats with nf yoghurt w/1% milk
(L)Turkey & jarlsberg cheese on two pieces of whole wheat non flour bread & an apple
(D)Homemade burger with jarlsburg cheese, butter, mayo, avocado, nastursium flowers & leaves and tomatoes on a whole wheat kaiser bun, coleslaw and baked shoestring fries (probably about the size of a small order of fries
(S)about 1/2 as many chocolate almonds as I had last night... I will be glad when they are gone... I have no resistance.

I hope I can make it through the entire day tomorrow without a melt down. I'm going to move on to DAY TWO tomorrow... I think today was a success for the most part.

Ugh. I'm about to fall over today. I'm so glad this is a three-day weekend coming up.

Yesterday was good, food was decent, water was good, but still no exercise. We didn't get home until late. That always happens to me. I know I should exercise in the morning. That would be so much easier if I could ever manage to go to bed before 11. *sigh*

Food today will be good too.
Breakfast: 2 c. coffee w/FF creamer, 2 sm. slices sourdough toast, 1 T. LF mayo, 1 oz. LF mozzarella
Snack: Cherries
Lunch: Peach Fresca, Lean Pocket, peach
Snack: Celery w/LF peanut butter
Dinner: TBD

We decided not to buy a car. They didn't have anything in our price range that I really wanted, and I can't afford the ones I do want right now, so we're just going to wait. Oh well. Heck, maybe I'll hit the lottery and it won't be an issue. There's always hope.

We have to go to the grocery store tonight after work, but we don't need a lot so hopefully we will get home at a reasonable hour. I'll make a quick dinner, then we can take the dog for a walk. And maybe, just maybe, I can get to bed at a decent hour and finally get some sleep.

What do you think? Is 7:30 too early to call it a day?

Wish me luck!

I hope you're all having a wonderful day!

Got in my full complement of 3 bottles of water today... its early (7:51) and I'm thirsty ... I drink another one now

We went for a 30 minute walk after dinner... two for two so far...

FOOD TODAY
(B)porridge oats with nf yoghurt w/1% milk
(L)Turkey & jarlsberg cheese on two pieces of whole wheat non flour bread & an apple
(D)uggh... about 10 oz port sausage, about 2 cups tortelini with alfredo sause and about a cup of coleslaw. I was so hungry when we got home... I had huge portions.... not my usual style.... I usually eat small bits almost continually
(S) I'm still really full... so I'm hoping the chocolate will stay in the cupboard.

Although today wasn't perfect (with the HUMUNGOUS PORTIONS) I'm going to move on to DAY THREE tomorrow... I think today was more successful than unsuccessful.

Elisha: Get some rest chicky... 7:30 is only a number

Wow, it is really hard to have 7 good days in a row. It really makes you see where your weak spots are. I am doing well. I am SO close to making the 7 days this time.

Elisha, i know what you mean about the car you can afford versus the one you want. I am still just amazed at what folks fork over for cars every month. I just think i could do so much more with that $500 a month...my car is paid for...hard to justify a new loan, especially when i am just sick of the one i have, no real problems with it.

Yaa for me. :carrot:
Day 6: Food and water were good. Oh my gosh, i REALLY didnt want to exercise today. If it werent for this thread and my weigh in tomorrow, i dont know if i would have done it. So glad i did now that it is over. :carrot:

Keep up the good work gals.

Stacy, you are doing so well! Seven days is harder than it seems, isn't it? Keep up the good work!

Joy, did the chocolate get out of the cupboard? Good job getting in all the water!

Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I was busy busy, and am again today, so this will be quick!

Yesterday was the best diet day I've had in a long time! Woot!
Today is going well so far, but there's a tailgate party here at work this afternoon that I will do my best to avoid. :D

Tomorrow is tailgating and football, Sunday I might go to the family reunion, and Monday I finally get to relax and paint the trim in my dining room and stairwell!

But there will be lots of walking this weekend, that is for sure!

OK, gotta jet! I hope you're all having a great day, and have a wonderful weekend!

HMMM the chocolates are finally gone.... :) I am really going to "STAND FIRM" and not let any of the "STUFF" into my house.

I seem to do fairly well until after dinner then KAPOW... seems I manage to stay on track if I only have light microwave popcorn in the house for treats.

Today was great until we went out for Chinese food for dinner... Ate about 1/2 my dinner for one (szchesswan beef, chow mein & beef chow suey) had two small bowls wor won ton soup and 1/2 order of garlic prawns. The rest came home with me...chances are DH will eat it before I do.

Gotta get re-motivated on the exercise. I have gotten VERY lazy.

Elisha... just remember you gotta write down all the stuff you eat at your outings... should help keep you mindful of what's going in....

Stacey ... awesome job on the 7 days. ;)

Well have a great long weekend.

Finally! Success. i was really close to going over my limit in cals today, only 50 shy of my max but victory.

Elisha, sounds like a tempting weekend. Good luck, stay strong.

Joy: Chinese food is a killer for me. It is one of those things that i will eat way too much of and of course i have to have the fried rice. That is a such a weakness for me.

Yaa for me. :carrot:
Day 6: Food and water were good. Oh my gosh, i REALLY didnt want to exercise today. If it werent for this thread and my weigh in tomorrow, i dont know if i would have done it. So glad i did now that it is over. :carrot:
Day 7: All was good. Had a great exercise day with no effort. Lots of walking through the mall and then swimming laps with the kids in the pool. I love those exercise days where you dont even know your exercising. :carrot:

Keep up the good work gals.

Stacy: Yay! Congrats! You're doing so well! Keep up the good work! :cp: :hat: :bravo:

Joy: I'm the same way. If I can keep it out of my house, it's no threat. But as soon as it's in the door all bets are off! Better just not to get it in the first place.

I finally got my weight machine brought to my house. Unfortunately, I threw my back out in the process. But as soon as the searing pain stops, I'll be exercising again. I'm actually excited to exercise right now, as I think it will help me work out some of my stress and frustration. That's definitely a benefit I could use right about now!

Food will be good today. I'm already off to a decent start, lunch and snacks are packed and healthy, and I've got lots of healthy stuff waiting for me to heat up for dinner.

OK, I'm busy busy! Off to grab a glass of water, then lots to do. I hope you're all having a wonderful day!

Morning chickies!

Where is everyone? Hello? Anybody out there?

Well, I'm not doing too bad. Labor Day weekend threw me for a loop, but now I'm back on track, and doing better than I have for a while. I even used my weight machine on Tuesday evening (I wasn't home yesterday evening).

Today the diet will go well, and there will be some sort of exercise tonight, I promise. :D

Right now I'm uber busy at work, so I've gotta get to it. I hope you're all doing well!

I need a challenge. My goal is to be a healthy size 10. Therefore, I need to eat with in my calorie limit which will be 1600-1800 calories, and exercise 20 to 30 minutes per day. Instead of choosing water for another goal I'm choosing sleep. To be healthy I need at least 8 hours of sleep and most of the time I don't get it.
