Ellen 08-21-2006, 08:11 AM CHALLENGES! CHALLENGES! CHALLENGES!
:carrot: Last week's exercise board looked awesome! Lets do it again! Get in at least three days of exercise, and post it! If you already get in three, increase your time or sessions this week.
:carrot::carrot: Share a motivator! What motivates you? Is it setting a goal, or planning a reward? Tell us about it...
:carrot::carrot::carrot: What is your biggest temptation? Share it and see what others can come up with to help you through it.
Ellen 08-21-2006, 08:20 AM Good morning! It is a brand new week, and I am feeling motivated to see some progress! MMM was so so... I was down the two pounds I had mysteriously gained last week yesterday, but we went out for Chinese last night, late, and they are back this morning. I feel sure they will be gone in a day or two at most, so I am not worried. The medication I take slows down digestion, and I honestly still feel full from dinner. :( I did not even eat all my entree, I am figuring the higher salt has something to do with it.
I actually slept fairly well. I could have slept longer, but Tom woke me up looking for his laptop. He had forgotten he had put it in the office, and was hoping I knew where he left it. I did...so I guess it was worth waking up to help.
I hope everyone is determined to make this a good week! I am!
techwife 08-21-2006, 10:40 AM Well, after my extreme roller coaster ride of a weekend, I gave Derek the perfect reason to not move to Rochester. We have six houses surrounding us and we get along well with all of them except one...and they're the snobs...from Rochester. So, I should find out today or tomorrow if I'll be working at hte school, which will give us insurance, etc. and Derek's going to go on unemployment and stay home with the kiddos...or by the time this happens, take Kyle to school. And he says he'll do all the housecleaning and laundry and grocery shopping, so we'll be swapping roles. I told him he's not allowed to go grocery shopping until we go together once and I tell him what to get...like what pads and tampons to get me and Shelley...what storage bags I like for storing food...what kind of paper towels to get, etc. I'm totally sure he'd be great at it. Especially since he won't have the kids running around after him messing up his cleaning as he goes and having to stop and make three meals, etc. Like right now, Kyle is sneaking around iwth a bucket and every time I look at him, he stops and smiles as if to say, "I'm not doing anything....:^: " Anyways...
Prayers, prayers, prayers that I get that job, Please!! We need it now more than ever!!
Monet: I bet your two pound gain had something to do with the Chinese food. It'll be gone before you know it.
ThinWithin225 08-21-2006, 10:53 AM MMM was better than last week, but still just short of my ticker. I'm glad to be going in the right direction!:carrot:
I have to leave work early today...Rachel's throat hurts! Surprise!:p
Monet- I'm still having trouble with weekends. I think I eat more salt and drink less water. Maybe that's my problem.:(
Tech- Good luck with the job! Will Derek not have to look for work eventually?
Ellen 08-21-2006, 11:00 AM As is typical for me, I ended up laying down and falling asleep. I just woke up, took my injection and ate some fiber one cereal for breakfast. The injection gave me a rush, like a hot flash, which the old pen did not do, so maybe this pen will be better. My numbers were ok on the old one, but not as good as the first month I took it. Does this make any sense? THUNDER understands, since her hubby uses the Byetta too....
TECH: That will be awesome if you get the job and Derek is willing to be Mr. Mom. That would not happen here! Tom would never want to keep house. He would be worse at it than I am! He also has a much better education than mine and can make a heckava lot more than I can. Unless I wrote a book that sold well, or started selling my art.... :s:
Ellen 08-21-2006, 11:02 AM THIN: I was typing while you were posting! I am so sorry Rachel has the strep stuff now! If salt and lack of water are your weekend problems, it ought to be easy to fix! Good luck! I am with you on that...I did not drink much water over the weekend either. :( I am going to go fill my water jar/glass right now!
Solly 08-21-2006, 11:54 AM Slow start for Monday.
For nothing to do this weekend, I sure was busy. Sat I had WW,nails and eye doctor, then we took my car in for a free service. Got some wine and beer, came home and me & DH cut the grass. Went out for dinner. 8:00 I sat on the couch to watch a movie and was gone. At 9:00 DH woke me up to go to bed. Exciting life. Yesterday I cleaned, went and got 2 birthday presents, went to the grocery and produce market. Got my food fixed for my pampered chef party on Tuesday. Fixed 3 nights of dinners and dinner for the night and then cleaned my basement and ironed. I sat down at 10:00 to read the paper. I lasted about 1/2 hour. It was a busy day.
MMM has be down 2 pounds since last week. It is so nice to be down on Mondays and not up like I used to. I hope this continues.
Monet, the gain is probably from that Chineese food.
Thin, glad you are going in the right direction. Sorry Shelley now has what Shawn had. It always happens. Hope you don't get it too.
Tech, Saying prayers for you. I'm so set in my ways in cleaning, that my DH would never please me. When he goes to the store alone, he always buys off brand stuff, and there are some things you just can't do that. He always go with me now.
Got to run. Have a great OP day.
ThinWithin225 08-21-2006, 11:57 AM Monet-I think that must be at least part of the problem. I did not do too bad yesterday, yet I was up 1.5 pounds from Friday's weight. I guess I'll try to test it somehow to see if I'm right. I walked Saturday night and did some stretching exercises yesterday. I did not walk last night, it was thundering! So, I did get in some exercise over the weekend, we'll see!
Toni48 08-21-2006, 12:54 PM Well I was so shocked when I just got on the scale and I'm up 3.5 lbs. I'm really disappointed. I'll have to be extra careful this week and see whats going on. Hopefully next week will be better. One thing I'm having so much trouble with is drinking water. I just don't want too! Just walked on the treadmill and even got in an extra minute. For me thats great.
Monet- You're such an inspiration... Keep up the good work.
Tech- Got my prayers going up for you. Heres hopeing you get the job! I'll bet Derek will make a great stay at home Dad.
Thin- Good going for this week! Isn't it great to be going in the right way...
Solly- You're doing so great. WW was just the answer for you. Wow did you do allot this week end. Wish I would get my butt in gear and do more.
Oh yea forgot to tell I ordered some Lara bars off the internet and got to try one Sat. Was it ever good. Well I'm off to have breakfast....
Ellen 08-21-2006, 01:48 PM TONI: Which larabar did you get? I get a box of them at Costco with Cherry, Apple pie, and Chocolate coconut. I have also had the pecan pie, and the chocolate mole. I did not like the mole one. I really like the rest of them though. So healthy! It was Pancho that first told us about them. Way to go on the treadmill! Don't worry about that gain...with the exercise, you will fluctuate some, but once you get used to it, it will be mostly downhill! :)
Toni48 08-21-2006, 03:55 PM Monet- I've only tried the cherry pie so far and it was sure good. The package I got had one of each of ten bars. I can't wait to try another one.
heartmom 08-21-2006, 04:25 PM Hey, guys. Not a whole lot going on here. I was doing good until yesterday and blew it again. Back at 173 this AM. This is getting old. I have set my exercise goals higher this time. I did Ramp it Up last week and was soo sore that it hurt to squat down on the toilet for a couple days. Then I did it again Saturday and I'm sore but not as sore as I was from the last time. So my goal is to increase my strength training and overall workouts. Today I did the 4 mile WATP which I sweated tons(yay). And I'll do the Ramp it up again tomorrow. As for the other challenge- what motivates me? Hmmm, I guess what keeps me going is that my arse has gotten too big for my jeans! Temptation- Sweets! Especially, peanut M&M's. The only solution to that is to completely avoid and don't take the first bite...I lose all self-control after the first bite.
Alright, I'm expecting a loss come next MMM. Really. Going to put it to the test!
Menu:
post-workout: LC yogurt
BF: 4 egg whites scrambled with spinach and 1 tsp olive oil
Snack: 1 oz unsalted mixed nuts
Lunch: big salad made with LS tuna, some cheese, veggies, lite ranch dressing
Snack: LC yogurt
Supper: cooking thin pork loin chops, sweet potato, glory greens(canned)
Got customers...gotta go!
techwife 08-21-2006, 05:01 PM Laurie: I'm sensing a pattern in you that you seem to go by the wayside on the weekends, then get depressed on Monday when you weigh in. Why not weigh yourself on Friday before the portals of sin open for you on the weekends? If you're weighing in at less on Friday, it may be the inspiration you need to put up your goody shield and keep out the peanut M&Ms...by the way, the protien in the peanuts don't make up for the sugar in the candy coating...I already tried that one on here...jsut so you know ;) By the way, how are things with hubby? Is he still being Shrek-ish?
Toni: Thanks for the prayers. I really need them. A lot is riding on me getting this job. Don't sweat it on the 3.5 gain. Like Monet said, I'm agreeing that it's the beginnings of exercise, coupled with not enough water. Also, be sure to get a lot of sleep, especially when you're exercising, so your body can repair itself fully.
Solly: So, what the heck do you do on weekends when you ARE busy? Sit in the recliner? :lol3: WOW...that is a BUSY weekend!! I don't have to get my nails done anymore. They're actually growing again...for the first time in about 20 years!! I attest it to Derek and I and our newfound contentment in life...in spite of our troubles. We've been so close and he's been so connected to the kids...yesterday he took Shelley shopping for school clothes at Hot Topic (the goth store at the mall)...she came home with skull earrings and a Ramones T-shirt, but they were both rather happy and, therefore, so was I. I was just glad they didnt' come home with the Sex Pistols backpack. Mrs. Percy( the school principal) would have fainted. As for Derek cleaning...I'm most concerned with the laundry. He has a definite block when it comes to using fabric softener and bleach. He definitely does laundry college style. But, I'm sure we'll all adjust.
Monet: Something tells me you'd fetch a pretty penny for your artwork! It should be fun having Derek at Mr. Mom. I can't wait to see him put sheets on the kids loft beds!! :lol3: It sounds like your new pen is going to be much more effective. I wonder if they wear out after a while?
Thin: Yes, Derek will have to find work eventually, but for now, it'll be unemployment with an ebay selling supplement. He was telling me all the things around the house he wants to sell. More power to him! Hope Rachel is feeling better soon!!
Okay...so, I've got a really yummy-smelling black bean soup in the crockpot. I can't wait for the beans to cook down so I can have some. Still haven't heard from the school. My neighbor wants me to cut her son's hair...but I'm doing it at her house, then we're going on the boat. My mom says, "You're selling the boat right?" in response to my telling her about Derek's job and I said, "Nooooo....it's the only thing we have that we do together as family aside from watching the TV. The boat stays....because I'M the mommy now and I said so!" So, there! :p She thinks it's a waste of money...she's welcome to her opinion.
Okay...have some clutter to pick up then I'm working on a new baby blanket for another little boy I know of ;) .
Ellen 08-21-2006, 06:32 PM I am having such a slug day! I can't seem to wake up sufficiently to get anything done! I keep yawning! Tom is home and taking a power nap, then we will go get in the pool for a bit. I hope I can get in 30 minutes of water aerobics. I could go out there now, but I don't feel like it! :o
My bg levels are really good so I am thinking there was something wrong with the old pen. I hope this new one will help with the weight loss like the first one did. Its been a few weeks since I lost anything, and I was getting discouraged.
Ok, off to get something done!
fruitloupe 08-21-2006, 09:35 PM Hey Friends!
Well, back to work today. I really don’t like Mondays at all – it’s my worst day! The kids were actually pretty good today overall. There’s always those few that try to ruin it for the rest but I squashed them like bugs early on in the day!
As for my weight – I was down to 286.5 which is a 2 ½ pound loss for the week. Hopefully this week will be better. All I know is that I was STARVING tonight. I ate well today but it didn’t feel like enough…know what I mean?
I’m gonna try to keep this short because I’ve got some school work to do and I want to watch the Spike Lee movie about the devastation from Hurricane Katrina on HBO. It’s a 2 night special. I’m anxious to see how one sided it is. Word is that he only profiled the poor African American population that suffered – no whites. I’m not a racist but I can’t stand how he can make a movie like that and exclude the thousands of whites that suffered and lost just as much and it not be reprimanded. If someone would make a movie about only the whites the NAACP would be right on top of that saying that it was racist. That peeves me! So, we’ll see how it plays out.
MONET: I LOVE Chinese food! I’m going to wait a while before I give in to that temptation though….but oh the thought of it makes me smile!
TECH: Best of luck with the job. I’m sure hubby will do just fine as Mr. Mom and he will certainly appreciate you more after he’s done it a few days!!
THIN: WTG on a good MMM!! Fired up – keep up the great work!
SOLLY: Congrats to you too for your good MMM! I love Pampered Chef. I actually just got a new book from my friend that sells it – love some of the new things. I have so many things from PC – almost every stone, etc. I also love Southern Living at Home! I have tons of that too! I hope you have a good turn out so that you can get some free stuff!
TONI: You will have a better week this week – I can feel it! I’ve been drinking tons of water too but sometimes I add that sugar free crystal light stuff to my water just to give me some flavor. They have those individual packs that you pour into your bottles and they are very handy and tasty. Right now I’m doing the fruit punch. It’s really good!
Well, gotta run! Tomorrow I have a meeting from 5:00-7:00 and I don’t know if I’ll make it to the board so if I don’t I’ll see y’all Wednesday.
Much Love!
Missy
GatorGal 08-21-2006, 10:58 PM Hi everyone,
MMM has me down 1 pound. :)
The party went awesomely. We had 28 people here; the music man was great and my friend who I hired to be my "wife" made everything so smooth for me. I had fun at my own party. In fact I didn't even have enough time to get to visit with everyone like I wanted. Food was good and I didn't eat too much. Had a slip on Friday when my cleaning lady just about drove me nuts with her attitude. A cleaning lady is supposed to make my life easier, not harder. Hmmmm.
Gotta go. I have a ton of cleaning up to do on my computer. Mailboxes to empty, files to organized. I've been neglecting this for a month.
ThinWithin225 08-21-2006, 11:34 PM Just a quick fly by...Rachel does not have strep. It is a flare up of her asthma and fluid in her ears. So she goes back on the advair and also got a steroid shot. She seems to feel some better already.
I was planning to walk tonight, but I stayed at band practice just to watch for a "liitle while". I got sucked in and ended up staying for the whole practice. They are so awesome!
Pancho 08-22-2006, 12:32 AM Hi everyone:
Don't have time to post, but wanted to say hello. I weighed 122.5# this morning, but I've been working out pretty consistently again, but have to work on my diet a bit yet.
I'll be gone all day tomorrow, and Wednesday won't be much better. I should be able to post more on Thursday.
By the way, Monet....I have scoured Costco and can't find the Lara Bars; where do you find them there? I've checked by the cereal stuff and the power bars/candy, etc.... There is a local store here that has them on sale right now 10/$10.00 (so $1.00 each)....I should stock up on them.
I'll post later.
Have a great evening!!
HEART: I hear ya on the peanut M&M's; that is my one definate downfall....I can't eat a few...I eat the whole bag!
Nat
Ellen 08-22-2006, 09:01 AM Good morning! I slept fairly well last night. I intended to get up earlier than this, but I definitely needed the sleep. I am about to suit up and head out for a walk. I will post more when I get back! :)
PANCHO: The larabars are in the front with the candy, cookies and nuts at my Costco. If yours doesn't have them, I would ask them to stock them. If I could find a store with them 10/$10, I would get them there. The box at Costco only has three flavors in it..cherry, apple and chocolate. There are so many other flavors I would like to try! :) Give those precious girls of yours a hug from 'Auntie Monet'.
Solly 08-22-2006, 09:47 AM Good morning Ladies,
Boy I could have used a couple more hours of sleep today. I am exhausted. I have a feeling my RA is flaring and maybe that is causing me to be tired. I did get up at 5:30 to get some "tread: time since I won't be going to the gym tonight or last night. I got a mile in last night. Better than nothing.
2 Questions, Can someone post the nutrition info on the Larabars.
Does any one take Fosamax for their bones? My gyno wants me to start taking it. I have to check with my oncologist first, but wanted some feed back.
Toni, sorry you saw a gain on the scale. You have been doing so great I wouldn't worry about it. Could be hormones, etc. Do you like ice tea or water flavored with crystal light?
Heart, Have you tried journaling. There is something about having to write down what you eat that really makes you think about it. Try writing everything down plus set a calorie limit and subtract off of that as you eat. Even write down the binges, M&M's etc. It might help. Just a suggestion.
Tech, if your boat is something you enjoy, then you should keep it if you can. We used to have one and then the kids tarted playign sports and we never got to go anymore so we sold it. Now we wish we still had it. I keep telling my DH that we need to trade places just for one day. He does what I normally do in a day (after work) and I do what he does. What an eye opener that would be. But I think I will be exhausted from using the remote in the recliner.
Monet, how long do those pens last? Do they put expiration dates on them? Glad it is doing better for you and I know next week you will see a loss.
Fruit, :carrot: 2 1/2 lbs is great. I get such a laugh from your posts about the kids, squashing them like bugs. I bet you are all bark and are probably huggingon them all day long.
Gator, Wow a great party and still saw a 1 lb loss. That is awesome. Glad everything went so well. Now time to get ready for some football.
Thin, so glad Rachel doesn't have strep (I just realized I called her by Tech's DD name in yesterday's post, sorry, chemo brain). Allergies seem to get really bad this time of year. Every Sept 1st, both my DD's allergies act up.
Nat, I thought you might have more time with the girls in school, but I guess we always seem to find something to fill it. Drop in when you can.
Got to get busy here or find some way to sneak in a nap;)
Ellen 08-22-2006, 09:57 AM I am back from my walk, and am heading down for breakfast in a minute...I wanted to log in my exercise first! (ain't I dedicated!?? :) )
SOLLY: The pens have a few months before they expire, but the contents has to be kept at a constant low temperature, or it can lose its effectiveness. The company that makes the drug says it can be left out for 144 hours before it loses potency, but if the pharmaceutical warehouses know that, they might be leaving them out too long, then when the consumer gets them, it may have been out too long. It is amazing to me how far they have come with this kind of med though! No syringes, and long needles...just a fat pen that you can turn a dial to set up the dose, then you add a disposable needle tip, and its ready! I understand they package insulin like this now too. I sure hope you are not going into a flare!
Ellen 08-22-2006, 10:02 AM SOLLY: Oh, and the Larabars...go here: www.larabar.com They have all the info on them on there, its just in a format that I can't copy and paste. They are made with no more than six ingredients, all dried fruits, and nuts, and flavoring like cocoa. They are all natural and the sugars come from fruit. They are considered vegan, contain no soy, and are ok even for raw foodists. :) There are no preservatives either. Just 100% natural, and very good! One bar is usually about 180 calories. I hope that helps!
GatorGal 08-22-2006, 11:48 AM Solly--I have used Fosamax for several years but am now taking Boniva. I had some success on my bone density scans with the Fosamax but noticed a slight problem with heartburn about every 4-5 months. That is a side effect of Fosamax and you have to be very careful when you take it. They recommend taking it with a full (8 oz.) glass of plain water at least 30 minutes before taking anything else. So every Friday I did my Fosamax thing. I took it with 24 oz. of water, because the idea is to wash that pill through the stomach and into the top part of the intestine. My DS had to stop the Fosamax because she got damage in her esophogus from it. She is a pharmacist and knows all about those pills. I prefer the Boniva for the convenience--only once a month, but I have to wait an HOUR before eating. I have not had a bone density scan yet since I've started on it. Hope this helps.
heartmom 08-22-2006, 12:26 PM Hey, guys. I know I shouldn't have hopped on the scale but I did anyway and am up 2 #'s from yesterday! What the heck gives. I was EXCELLENT yesterday with my food intake, water, and my exercise. Yes, I know it is fluid because there isn't any other explanation for it. Shoulda stayed off that MM. I've been up since 5 am, did my Ramp it Up(strength training), and I've already had 80 oz of water and have peed about 6 times already, lol. But also, I've been really hungry this AM. I ate a yogurt post-workout and then at 7:15 I ate my bf which was heart healthy oatmeal(NSA), strawberries and walnuts. 2 hours later, my stomach was growling! So on the way to work I ate a small boiled egg and 2% cheese. Maybe I just needed some protein. Lunch will be a LC multi-grain wrap made with a slice of pepper jack cheese, a slice of LS turkey and ham with spinach and red onion on it. Sliced cukes and cherry tomatoes on the side. I have 1 oz unsalted nuts for my evening snack. Supper will be a chicken breast and green beans(they're having rice).
Pancho- Hey, stranger. Good going on maintaining your loss. I'm trying to get back to my low.
Fruit- I hear ya on the Katrina thing. I wish I had HBO! I'd like to see it.
Well, I better get to work!
Ellen 08-22-2006, 01:18 PM I am rather bummed. I was about to leave to run some errands, and decided to check my blood sugar before I left. I dropped the meter, but when I checked, it was really low. So, I did the control thing to check the meter and did a second check...it was even lower. Then I started getting the shakes. I went and ate something...took a sip of Laura's Sprite for the sugar (they tell you to drink 4oz of reg. soda to fix hypoglycemia...I usually don't, but it was right there...) and had a glass of milk and some peanut butter. I am STILL shakey. Grrr. I really wanted to leave! Now I am sitting here, waiting for the symptoms to subside so I can drive.
Toni48 08-22-2006, 01:20 PM Howdy all... I did my TM today and had 2 soft boiled eggs and a piece of toast for breakfast. I'm trying to get some water in. Can't understand why this is such a problem lately. I may have to start making some ice tea instead. Should go to town today but I hate getting out of the house when its 90 degrees. I'm having to be on guard my little dog Jackson has decieded he'll get into everything today. He's already pulled my coffee off and spilled it everywhere. Got into the trash, laundry and helped me make the bed!
Heartmom- Stay off those scales.... You're sure doing great on the exercise, keep up the good work. You can do this!!
Gator- So happy your party turned out well. And that you had a good time too....
Monet- Hope this new pen works better for you and you get back to losing weight. Can't wait till I can walk outside...
Solly- You may be right about drinking ice tea or crystal light. I've got to do something. The Larabars are really good but I had to get mine off the internet so the shipping was high.
Thin- I'm glad for Rachael that she doesn't have strep. Heres wishing all a speedy recovery.
Fruit- Good gosh you did wonderful this week... "2 1/2" lbs is sooooo great! You're really on a roll.... Now you've got Monday over with hope the week is smooth sailing... LOL
Tech- Oh boy send me some of that black bean soup. It sounds so good I might have to make some...
Hope I haven't missed anyone. Have a good SB day!!!
Toni48 08-22-2006, 01:21 PM Oh no Monet, I hope you get better soon.
techwife 08-22-2006, 02:13 PM Fruit: I'm so with you on the hurricane thing. From up here, everytime I hear about Katrina, its about how horrible the blacks and poor have it. I can't listen to it anymore. In 1992, I took a class on meteorology for my science elective. We did extensive studies on two American cities: Fairbanks, Alaska, for its extreme hot and cold temps and New Orleans for being so far under sea level and how it would turn into a giant bowl of jumbalaya if a large hurricane hit square on. In my opinion, if I lived in NO, every time a hurricane even looked my way, I'd be on the high road...I don't care if I have to hitch a ride to get outta town. And if these people were in such dire straights even before the hurricane, its nobody's fault but their own...we are all in charge of our own destiny and our lives are what we make of it. Sure, there are some families that have fallen on really bad times and their poverty is not their fault, but I feel that in most cases, it's a family legacy that has to stop. And they use the hurricane to add to the woe is me factor. In my other opinion, that Ray Nagin and NO city management should be held accountable for putting all those people's lives in jeopardy and not having a plan ahead of time in the event a hurricane hit and not evacuating sooner. I remember watching the Weather Channel a day and a half or so before the hurricane hit and they showed him on TV saying he didn't want to act too soon and cause widespread panic or whatever...and the WC people were kind of like, "I don't know what he's waiting for...it's headed right for NO!" All those school busses left to soak in parking lots could have been used for evacuation, jsut for starters. Oh, well. I commend you for still living here, Fruit. If I'd lived through a devastating hurricane, I'd have moved to IDAHO!! And I can't imagine what it's got to be like living there with all of that in your face everyday.
Laurie: Well, the exercise and good eating won't show positive results until you've been doing it for a while and consistently...but I think you know that. Also, make sure you're getting plenty of sleep. I always find that if I manage to get in an extra hour of sleep, the weight comes off easier. Maybe it's just me...
Gator: I'm glad your party was a smash!
Solly: We are definitely keeping the boat. And, yes, I'd like to think that now Derek will be reading to Kyle at night and cooking dinner and washing dishes while I sit on the couch with the remote, complaining that I'm all alone. But I don't think that will be happening. :lol3:
Nat:  Good to see you posting!!
Thin: Good that Rachel doesn't have strep and it's only allergies. Poor thing...it's good she has you for a mom!!
Okay...still waiting to hear from the principal whether or not I have the job at school. Two lovely days wasted on sitting by the phone. I could be at the beach! I should toss the kids outside, though. It's a rare day without Junior..he's at the groomer getting shaved down to velour length again. I can hardly wait. I know...he's a sheepdog...but I love him short. I have gone on record as stating that the sheepdog was Derek's idea, right? Well, He was the one that was supposed to be brushing him. I just love him and like his personality. I hate his icky mats and foulness with the odor. Bleh. He IS cute and fluffy, but gross, just the same.
Anyhow...time for lunch.
Solly 08-22-2006, 05:05 PM Monet, I'm off to check the larabars. Hope you feel better quickly. Be careful.
Gator, I called my oncologist and he did not recommend me taking the Fosamax as my last density test was normal. I kept thinking I had heard bad things about Fosamaz but wasn't sure what it was. I would like the Boniva better, 1 x a week. I think I will wait on it.
Tech, I'm agree with you 100%.There are things people can do for themselves. Hope you hear soon about the job.
Heart, you really, really need to hide that scale. It only bums you out and leads you into a binge.
Toni, The iced tea has to be decaf to count as water. My DD just got a new puppy and he is into everything. Wants to bite all the time.
Bob, hope all is well with you.
Fruit, Hope your Tuesday was better than Monday.
Almost time to go home and get ready for the Pampered Chef party. Talk to you tomorrow.
Solly 08-22-2006, 05:06 PM Oh I forgot to mention I finally changed my ticker down 1 lb. It hasn't moved since before I went on vacation in June.
Ellen 08-22-2006, 05:55 PM I went to Costco and Harry's/Whole Foods. I spent too much money...as usual. They are closing the Harry's, and moving to a new, bigger store. It is closer to me, but I am going to miss Harry's. The new store is going to be huge, and kind of a flagship of the future. I am seriously thinking of applying for a job there...they are hiring cake decorators, their benefits are awesome, and you get a good discount! What's not to like?
It is raining, thundering and lightning out. Of course tonight is when I planned to grill burgers for dinner.
SOLLY: Have fun at your pampered chef party! I need to go to one of those soon...there is something I need. I lost my good vegetable peeler....
TONI: How nice of Jackson to help you make the bed! He sounds like a handful, but lots of fun!
TECH: I hope you hear about the job soon....
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 08-22-2006, 08:12 PM EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!
OH...MY...GAWD!!! Didn't sleep well on Sunday night and it showed in yesterday's work! TOTALLY OFF KELTER!!! Couldn't focus, couldn't talk at ALL all day!!! Boss asked if I was on NEW MEDS because she said my speech was slurring!! NOT!!! Did sleep better last night, but today was still a little off and I actually cried talking to my boss!!! Just tired...I SWEAR!!!
MONET...Hope you're feeling better, and sorry about your HAMBURGERS!!!
KATE fixed some SHRIMP SALAD AGAIN!!! YUM ME!!!
JACKIE...Sorry you're not feeling up to par!
GATOR...Glad to hear you had a good turnout and a wonderful party! How did they like the SMOKEY BONES???
TONI...You'll have a better week...PROMISE!!!
KRIS....You do know that FRUIT wasn't in the hurricane don't you???
LAURIE...I wan't to see the KATRINA SPECIAL too, but I don't have HBO either!
HEY PANCH...You watching BIG BROTHER this season?
THIN...Glad to hear that RACHEL doesn't have STREP!!! I know YOU"RE GLAD!!
BOB
techwife 08-22-2006, 08:56 PM Hiya, BOB!! Yup, I know she wasn't IN the hurricane, but if I were that close to one breathing down my neck, I'd still move to Idaho. I use Idaho as an example because Idaho is Kyle's favorite state (because of a book we got from the library called Scramble States of America - they show Idaho taking a shower saying, "Do you mind?!"...he loves that). When all the hurricanes were slapping around the Gulf Coast, Kyle was worried that Idaho was going to get hit by a hurricane and I had to assure him that Idaho doesn't have a problem with hurricanes ;) So, therefore, if we were that close to a hurricane, we'd move to Idaho. Same goes for the prairie states and tornadoes, the West Coast and earthquakes, the southwest and wildfires. The only thing I can handle that Mother Nature dishes out is snow...which is why I live where I live ;) and my only complaint about snow is that we don't get enough! :^: ...and at least your boss had the frame of mind to ask if you were on new meds and didn't accuse you of 'drinking your lunch'! :lol3: I hope you get some well-deserved sleep tonight!!
Monet: APPLY FOR THE JOB!! You should be IN CHARGE of the cake department with your credentials!!
Solly: Enjoy your party. I love pampered chef stuff...but it's so expensive and I'm just not that good a cook yet to justify the cash spent.
So, no word on the job yet. I hope I hear tomorrow. I want to schedule some time in Rochester and I need to know before I can make plans! I had Junior shaved down to velour length today. He looks so cute and pathetic. I know, it sounds mean, but his face was shaved way down and his head looks just like a lamb! He smells so clean and no more MATS!! Everytime I take him in, he's so far gone I'm afraid they're going to call the SPCA and claim animal cruelty or neglect. He really gets gross. But now he smells nice and is nice and soft again. I should have just got a greyhound because I like him best like this.
Derek got a tip on a great job today. Working for a place called Whitech, fixing the little kiosks that people use by putting in their cards from their digital cameras, etc and printing out what they want in the size they want. They're looking for someone to service the Kinney's stores, Derek was told, so I just sent in his resume. THAT would be fabulous!!
Okay...have to go get dinner for Derek and I. He's almost home from work. He had to go to almost NYC today...just south of New Paltz. What a trek! Will be back later!!
Kris
Ellen 08-22-2006, 09:20 PM We had dinner...and were able to grill the burgers, since the rain stopped for a bit. I did not get the chance to hop in the pool though. :( Tom is out there trying to figure out why the pool pump will not turn on. Oh, PLEASE let it just be a loose wire or something! I new one will cost $300 to $500, and we just don't want to spend that on the pool right now! Tom needs a new vehicle...and everything we have extra we have been saving for that!
TECH: I don't think it is mean of you to shave Junior. Its summer, and gosh, all that fur MUST be hot! We have an outdoor long haired cat, and she loses all her long fur in the summer. Its so gross to find big wads of fur, all matted, that fall out! We have discussed shaving her to get rid of the matts, but cats are so finicky about their appearance, I am afraid she would get really mad at us!
BOB: Have you gotten some sleepytime tea? It does help! Will your doctor give you something to help you sleep to use in emergencies? Tom took something that helped him fall back asleep when he woke up in the middle of the night. Eventually, he did not need it anymore, but it was a great blessing while he was having trouble sleeping.
I am off to find what mischief I can get into!
ThinWithin225 08-22-2006, 11:03 PM Sorry, but I need to "toot" my own horn for a moment!!:D Rachel was still feeling bad and kind of nauseous today, so she did not go to dance. She came home and took a nap, which she does not do very often. I think the steroids opened her ears and passages and maybe the drainage was making her sick. Anyway, it would have been very easy to just stay home, but I didn't. I went to ballet and really noticed a difference in some of the exercises. They were a lot easier than last week. So yea for me!:carrot:
fruitloupe 08-23-2006, 07:34 AM Good Morning!
My internet was down for some reason last night so I couldn't post! UGH! So, just wanted to say hello this morning and I'll be back tonight.
TECH: I'll have a nice long reply for you tonight! Girl...the people around here could go on for HOURS about what's happened in NO. I live about 45 mins SW of NO so we didn't get the brunt of that storm. We got some winds and our power was out for 5 days but that was about it!
See y'all later! Have a good day!
Missy
Ellen 08-23-2006, 09:21 AM Good morning! I am all suited up and about to go out for a walk. I meant to leave 30 minutes ago, but I could hear the baby crying and Justin was getting a bit frustrated trying to quiet him. I offered to take Kaeleb for him, and I got him rocked to sleep. Ah, the hand of experience! :) I hope Justin doesn't feel like a failure.
I guess my walk will be a short one. I have to take James to the Marta station in a bit. A friend of his is up in Philly on business and is flying James up to spend the rest of the week up there with him. They are photography buffs, and have done this before. The friend travels for business all the time and has tons of frequent flyer miles. Must be nice...
THIN: That is wonderful that you can feel some progress!
FRUIT: Gosh, it is good to have you back! I just smile when I get on and find a post from you! How is Alexis doing?
Ok, I better get pounding the pavement...
ThinWithin225 08-23-2006, 10:12 AM OK, my one week experimant is over and I am down a couple of pounds, but up one from yesterday. What gives? I am really starting to get frustrated. I am exercising more. I go to this class on Tuesday nights for one hour, plus walking 1.5-2 miles at least 3-4 times a week, doing some weights and stretching with an exercise ball. I am also eating much closer to plan than I have in a long time and drinking water. So why do I seem to be stuck? It's very disheartening. I would expect it to be harder if I was closer to goal. I don't know, maybe it will get better soon. I just feel like I'm destined to look like this forever. Thanks for letting me vent. I'm trying fitday for the first time. Including breakfast, snack and lunch I have 1261 calories with 33% fat, 21%carbs and 46% protein. Does this sound OK?
Ellen 08-23-2006, 11:11 AM THIN: I can relate. I can stick to plan, exercise regularly, and see NO progress at all...and I have alot to lose! It is very frustrating. I have lost about 15 pounds since starting the Byetta three months ago, but seven of it were in the first week! Then it slowed to a crawl and stopped! And no one can give me answers. Doctors tell me to exercise more...so I did. Two months ago, I was working out 12 or more times a week, and I did not lose anything! The only advice I can give you is this: Don't give up. I have a few times, just given up and eaten what I wanted for a few weeks. The resulting weight gain was even worse than the inability to lose. Hang in there, and know you are not alone!
techwife 08-23-2006, 11:26 AM Thin: Just know that the exercising and healthy eating are good for you and making you a healthier individual, even if you don't see results on the scales.
Well, I have splendid news. No, I STILL haven't heard from the school. :( BUT, you know the black computer 'kiosks' that they use at, say, drug stores by the photo department where you can put in your card or chip from your digital camera and print out what you want in what size you want? Well, there is a company that owns and maintains these in Kinney's Drug stores and Derek remembered that they were looking for a technician to service their kiosks in the Kinney's stores. So, he called the woman he knows from there and she said they are STILL looking for the right person to fill the bill. So, lat night, Derek got a call from his former boss at Konica (the place that closed in June) and he told him he got a call from the big boss at this Whitech (that owns the kiosks) asking about Derek. His old boss (Chris) told him this, "If you want someone that is reliable, Derek is your guy...if you want someone that is a hard worker, Derek is your guy...if you want someone that can do the job right...Derek is your guy...if you're looking for someone that is perfectly, centrally located amongst Kinney's stores...Derek's your guy..." etc, etc. Chris went on to tell Derek that this Whitech pays really well...probably better than Noritsu...and that they are just waiting for the green light from Whitech to hire someone and Derek will probably be the guy they hire. :carrot: How is THAT for good news!! I told Derek something like, 'See...God doesn't always backhand you..." and "When a door closes, a window opens..." and all that jazz. Now...we just have to wait for Mrs. Percy to call from the school and tell me I'll be the Study Hall monitor and all will be perfect once again. Then I jsut have to wonder what's going to happen with Kyle getting to school again. And, I know it's only August, but I'm already looking forward to 2007. This year has been exciting, at the very least!!
Anyhow...here I sit for another day waiting to hear about the school job.
Ellen 08-23-2006, 11:34 AM TECH: And if Mrs. Percy never calls, and Derek gets the job, you KNOW what that means, right? YOU are going to write that novel! Woo hoo! What a great boost that must be for Derek to have his former boss give him such a glowing reference!
techwife 08-23-2006, 12:09 PM Monet: Yes, it was a huge morale boost for Derek. He had many times with his old boss where he didn't like him very much, but last night he called Chris a Blimey (insert expletive) and told him how much he missed him. Chris is British. I could hear him on the receiver and they were carrying on like old college buddies. Weird. Chris got a job with Konica Minolta Medical Imaging and said that if they ever need a tech in our neck of the woods, Derek is his first choice for hiring. It really put a huge (and well deserved) glow on Derek's face. He gets criticism so much from everyone from his step father to his new boss etc and to get that from his old boss was really great for him. :D Now let's just hope it equates to a job offer!! :goodluck:
Toni48 08-23-2006, 12:45 PM Well this is just a fly by. I have to run to the doctor's office to get him to sign my paper for renewing my handicap licence. Wow the board has been so busy. Thats so great. I doing good on my eating. And did get in my water yesterday. Hope I can do that today. And so far have walked four days in a row. I'll walk tomorrow then take a couple days off. I think we go grocery shopping tomorrow afternoon. Will be glad to have some fruit in the house. We had lemon trout and chicken brown rice last night for dinner. Think I'll finally have some beef tonight. Maybe DH will grill some burgers. The Schwans guy came yesterday and I got somemore trout and some salmon. You cook both from frozen so I love it in the summer. No thawing out. Well guess I'd better run and get dressed...
techwife 08-23-2006, 12:47 PM Well, the good news is that Mrs. Percy finally called...bad news is I didn't get the job. She didn't say why, but 'encouraged me to sign up as a substitute teacher..." So, we'll see how that plays out.
Well, I was in the middle of cleaning...will be back later...
Solly 08-23-2006, 01:22 PM Hi Girls,
THe party went well. We sold over $600.00 So now we have to figure out what we want. There was only a couple things I have to have so I will let DD get what she wants.
Sure hope we get to the gym tonight. Won't get there the rest of the week.
Bob, girl you need to do something about your sleeping. Try a little exercise when you get home. Even if it is just a Walk Off the Pounds tape. It might help.
Monet, If you enjoy doing cakes, then you should apply for the job. If you want I can order the peeler for you and send it to you. Babies can sense your nervousness so Justin getting frustrated probably frustrated Kaeleb more. Experience is a good thing.
Tech, I bet Jr is much cooler and happier shaved. What a nice reference. It is so nice to be appreciated in this day and age. Sure hope the job works out. So sorry about the job. Now you don't have to worry about Kyle and can write your novel. Substitute teaching would be a good job. They usually get a lot of work.
Thin, good for you going to ballet. Sometimes we have to take time for us. Pretty soon you will be doing beautiful dances and not even thinking about them. Fitday will tell you how much fat, etc. you need and have had. Print the graff. When I dit it, I tried to stay between 1300 & 1500, but closer to 1300. The scale reflects so many things, but your clothes would be a closer gauge. Muscle weighs more than fat.
Fruit, hope your computer is fixed.
Got to check out my checking account. Have a great day.
techwife 08-23-2006, 02:50 PM Well, I've been feeling a myriad of different emotions today. Part of me is very sad I didn't get the job...and really depressed after two failed interviews. I've been wondering who got the position and I'm wondering if Kyle's preschool teacher got it and I've been getting offended just thinking about it. The principal said that I interviewed well again, but that they had someone else apply with experience teaching. Cindy (Kyle's old teacher) has the experience teaching and she was also the lunchroom lady at the elementary school and also has had experience with kids in detention. Thing that is offensive is that Cindy spent her whole time in Kyle's classroom talking about how much she hates her husband, how much she drinks on the weekends and what a party animal she is by night and how proud she is that she started smoking pot when she was in 6th grade. Yes, she has experience, but is it quality experience? :dunno: I may be getting all miffed for nothing, though...maybe it's not her that got the position. BUT, then I was thinking if she DID get the position, then that would leave Riverside Preschool looking for a teacher ;) and the elementary school looking for a lunchlady ;) ;) . So, then I'm hoping it was Cindy that got the job because that would free up those positions for me to apply for. So, a lot remains to be seen.
I've also been sad thinking if I get this job that I won't be able to do my walking and writing and going to a knitting club at the library on Thursdays. So, maybe it was a good thing for me to go through so I can be happy for some time off. AND with Derek. You know, yesterday he had to go to New Paltz (actually, south of there...near NYC! 4 hours away!) to a Price Chopper. He left before Kyle was even up and got home at 9pm. So, this morning, he was up, dressed and working on his computer at 7:30 getting some paper work done that he hasn't had time to get to with all the driving they've had him doing. So, he was out of here around 9 - 9:30 to Skaneateles, which is southeast of Syracuse and about an hour and a half away. The computer had him scheduled to be there around 1pm. So, his boss calls him and says, "Are you in Skaneateles?" and Derek says, "Yeah, I'm just getting here (at about noon)." and his boss gave him a ration for leaving the house so late, "We can't have you loafing around the house all morning...you need to get out and get to work!" Derek gave him a piece of his mind, some of which eluded to 'if you think I'm going to jerk you around because you're letting me go, you've got me all wrong!' And it ended with the boss saying, 'well, if you're going to be working on your computer in the morning, you have to let me know!'. What a jerk...Derek's quite pleased that it's ending...especially with the new job prospect on the horizon.
Anyhow...so, I'm not quite sure how to feel aobut it all these last few days. I think I need another pitcher of margaritas after Derek gets home. At least now I can reschedule our trip to Rochester. I can't wait to take Kyle to the Planetarium! He's watching something on the Science Channel right now about the universe and he came out and said, "Mom! Gamma rays are the most dangerous thing in the whole entire universe!!" I'm going to be so broke sending him to college. :^: Smarty pants.
thunderwoman62 08-23-2006, 04:11 PM Hi everyone,
This is a total drive by...lol. I have been busy getting the girls new school clothes and getting them ready for school. I just haven't had time to post.
I am on track with my eating and have lost 4 of the 7 lbs that I had gained..yippeee!!!
Boy the board already has 4 pages...thats sosooo nice to see. Well gotta run have to get in the school pick up line for Danielle. Ashley starts tomorrow morning.
Take care everyone!!!
Pancho 08-23-2006, 04:20 PM Howdy everyone:
I actually had a few minutes to post today, so thought I'd take advantage of it. It's not my day to p/u the kids at school (since we carpool), but I am still going to so I can take Britt to the dr. She's having problems with her ears; I think she might have swimmers ear.
My eating hasn't been great, but it is getting better. I only went to the gym on Monday, but plan to go on Friday and Saturday as well.
Britt is liking 3rd grade so far; she has a great teacher and one of her best friends is in her class. Her other best friend didn't get in class with her, but we carpool with them, so she sees her everyday!
I have a Mom's Night Out on Thursay night, and they are going to Mexican food, so I will prob. stick with fajitas with no tortillas. I am going to get this vacation weight off.
Anyhow....a few replies before I eat my lunch:
Monet: Thanks for the info. on the LaraBars at Costco. Those flavors are o.k., but not my favorite. Believe it or not, my favorite is the cashew cookie (nothing but dates & cashews). I hope you are feeling better after that "unexpected" morning.
Solly: Lane doesn't start school until after Labor Day, but that will only be M,W,F from 9-11:45, so not much extra time. We live so far away from the school that I will just use that time for my workouts. Sounds like a very successful party; that's great!!
Heart: I read a lot on here; I just have been really bad about posting. I know you've been struggling lately and I hope you're able to commit like you have in the past. It takes more than one day of being really good. I was just reading an article the other day stating that it takes the body 6 weeks to get used to a new eating/exercise program and sometimes you will see slower results while your body is adjusting. Hang in there!!! So good to see your posts!
Toni: Howdy!!!
Tech: sorry about the school job, I know how much you wanted it. BUT, things do happen for reasons that we don't always understand. Good luck on getting it all figured out. I know being at the school and making money being there would be the ideal situation; I hope I am able to do it one day myself.
BOB: I've never watched Big Brother, just Amazing Race and The Bachelor. Is it a good season for Big Brother? I think my sister watches it. She is trying to get me to watch Grey's Anatomy; she loves that!
Thin: Pat yourself on the back for going to ballet!!!
Fruit: Good to see you posting again. Sorry your school year started out a little rocky; I hope it gets better for you soon. How's that precious little girl? I love the pics you've posted.
Well my lunch is ready, so I gotta run.
I'll check in later!!
Nat
Ellen 08-23-2006, 04:29 PM I just went to the pool store and got a scrubby tail for the Polaris (pool vacuum). I did not like the test strips they had though, so I did not get any. I thought about going to Home Depot and getting the kind I like, but did not feel like it. Instead, I went to Hobby Lobby and looked for a particular kind of pastel paper. I was seriously bummed. They did not have any. I guess I will need to order it from Dick Blick, or drive up to DB and get it at their new store. It is cheaper online though.... I don't really NEED it, so maybe I will wait. I did get some tortillons (blending stumps) and a ball of cotton yarn for a washcloth. I had a 40% off coupon and spent less than $3 so I was pleased. There was plenty of stuff I was looking at, but I behaved!
THUNDER: Good to see you! Way to go on the loss!
PANCHO: Good to see you too! I had a Cinnamon Roll larabar this morning I got at Whole Foods...I liked it a lot! I also got a lemon one. Will try it later...
heartmom 08-23-2006, 05:20 PM Hey, guys. I think I'm getting a UTI. Not cool and I don't understand why since I drink more water than anyone else I know. What are some natural remedies. I know about cranberry juice, but won't that raise my insulin levels? I'm really trying to stay 100% OP. Anyway, today was my 1/2 day(go in later) since I work this Saturday. I cleaned house for more than 3 hours and did my workout, and even cooked tonight's supper before I had to come to work! So regardless of what the stupid scale says, I know I burned some cals and fat! I'm also almost due for T.O.M.- so maybe that is why my weight isn't budging. TECH- I'm sorry to hear about the job. Perhaps there is a better job for you and you just don't know it yet. Here's my menu:
pre-bf: yogurt
BF: made chicken salad(lite mayo, red onion, celery,1 chicken breast) and a celery stalk
Snack: 6 strawberries and a little sf cool whip
Lunch: 4 egg whites and 1 whole egg scrambled with spinach, onion, 1 sl ham, 1 sl pepper jack cheese; 1 tsp PB
Supper: Spaghetti(no noodles) and a big salad
Toni48 08-23-2006, 05:53 PM Good evening... My day has went okay. Got my paper over to the doctor's office and picked up a package at the post office. Its a bagette pan for when I do my sour dough. I've been searching for a recipe for good crab stuffed mushrooms on the internet. Anyone have a good one? Off to cook dinner which is going to be a salad and hamburger patti with mushrooms and onions on it.
Tech- Sorry about the job. I sure was hopeing for you to get it....
thunderwoman62 08-23-2006, 06:39 PM Hi everyone,

THIN...I have to agree with the GROUP...it's when you don't follow plan that you lose..I think that's because our bodys get used to the mundane choices we make for the diet...it's when you mix it up that you lose!
POOR LAURIE...I get those and they aren't fun...did you really feel like cleaning?
THUNDER...Are we to the first day of school yet? If so, I didn't hear any screaming on your part! Our little SUGAR BUSTIN BABE is going to school! http://bestsmileys.com/crying/5.gif

fruitloupe 08-23-2006, 11:14 PM Hey friends!
Well, I’m so sorry that I couldn’t post last night but like I said the net was down. So, let me fill you in on:
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FIRST GRADE TEACHER!
Let’s flash back to yesterday….I have this little disturbed kid in my class that as a Kindergartener was going to be expelled if his mother didn’t remove him and home school him. He had hit and kicked the Principal and teachers, etc. A real pain in the neck! Well, guess who has this disturbed kid this year…yep…ME! Oh I’m so lucky! Well, yesterday, he was doing some acting out in class and he managed to get himself on a D in conduct. So, I took him in the hall to talk to him. I asked him if there was anything going on that he needed to talk about and why was he disturbing others in class. He wouldn’t answer me – totally ignored me! So, I told him that if he couldn’t answer me then maybe we could walk to the office and he could answer the Principal. He shouted out NO! Well, so I gave him another opportunity to answer and he chose not to so I called to the office and as soon as the Principal walked out – that little turd took off running! She had to run catch him. She brought him back to the office for a little chat and then he came back to class. Well at snack recess he was punished and he decided that he thought it would be a good idea to eat a candy (which is a no no when you are punished) and the other kids tattled on him (of course – would you expect anything less from 1st graders?) So, when we got back to class I asked him why he felt the need to have a snack when he was punished and of course he ignored me again. So, I told him that we would have to call the Principal again because he was being disrespectful (which we don’t tolerate) At that point he proceeds to get out of his desk and head for the door! So, I hurried to the door and shut it – and I looked at him and said “Now where are you gonna go?” And of course I smiled at this point because I couldn’t help myself. He didn’t like that at all so he started to GROWL at me and started shoving furniture around the room like my overhead projector, my chair, and this cart that I have on wheels. He actually pushed the chair into the cart and attempted to pin me against the wall. I let him feel like a muscle man for about a second and then I pushed all the stuff off of me. Now – he’s on an F in conduct – imagine that. I sent a detailed note home to his mom for her to read and sign. Well, guess what didn’t show back up today – the note! SO….here we are TODAY…..
I ask about the note, if she saw it, yadda yadda. He said yes but she didn’t sign it. I told him that I was going to call her and ask her if she saw it and then I could see the panic in his face….little turd was lying! So, I said – let’s go call Mama. He got all pissed and started clinching his fists and stomping his feet. When we got to the door he stopped and looked down the hall. I told him that he better not even think about running today. Guess what – the little S&^T took off down the hall. I ran to the office to tell them and then I took off after him. Yes – what a vision you must have now – my big a$$ running down the hall after a 6 year old. Well, today he took off out of the building! As he was heading toward the street and I’m huffing and puffing a few more teachers joined in on the hunt. We had like 7 people running after this kid. When he was about to step foot on the street I told him that if he did I was going to call the PO PO! If they leave school grounds we aren’t supposed to follow – we have to call the police. So, he turned around and started running all over the parking lot at school. We drew a few spectators (nosy parents) and then we finally caught him. And the thing that pissed me off the most….he fricken laughed when we caught him. I’m about to have a damn heart attack and he’s laughing! UGH!!!!!!! We called the parents and he acted like a COMPLETE ANIMAL during the conference. All the dad was worried about was taking him outside and beating him to death (which I would have loved to watch) and the mom sat there like a complete idiot! She was like “Yeah – he does that at home sometimes too! We just don’t know what to do!” So, the counselor came in and we gave her some names to some local psychologists, etc. (He really needs a psychiatric ward with a straight jacket!) He went home for the day – which in my opinion is not enough! The next time he runs, I’m beeping the office and I’m not leaving. All of that mess took an hour and a half away from my class. Oh the joys of teaching! As I was running after him I said #1 I’m too fat to be chasing after kids #2 we don’t get paid nearly enough to do this s*&t! Funny thing…when I got back to class one of the little girls was like” Oh, Mrs. Loupe – you are all sweaty!” I was like…”GIRL…I just ran a marathon and I’m just too FLUFFY to do that! None of you better ever run away from me like that!! And…if you do you better hope I don’t catch you!” They were laughing at me. One of the girls I’ve been walking with joked at recess – she said “I didn’t know you were training for the mile run too” Needless to say, everyone got a big kick out of today’s madness! Especially since it happened to me – they knew I was cussin up a storm on the inside! They just couldn’t believe I didn’t let any F BOMBS slip!
Oh and to top it all off – there was this kid that was on our original roster that didn’t show up this year and we were so happy because he is a total loo loo bird. Well, guess what – he showed up yesterday and he’s in my homeroom – OH THE JOYS!!
Now that I’ve filled y’all in on my crazy life – let me catch up on yours!
GATOR: Glad to hear that the party was a success! WTG on the loss too!
THIN: I’m glad Rachel is starting to feel better! What’s their band “show” this year – the theme? I’m proud of you for going to ballet! I’m sure you feel good knowing that all of the work is paying off! I feel frustrated with the scale some days too! When I am on plan 100% I want to see results – FAST! If not I get discouraged and I want to cheat! I just keep telling myself that one day I’ll have a big loss! That keeps me going!
SOLLY: I wasn’t doing too much huggin today. If I would have been the one to catch the little ******* I would have hugged him so hard he wouldn’t have been able to breathe! Just the thought of that makes me all happy and tingly inside! I’m glad your party went well! I love the freebies and the half priced items!
HEART: Don’t fret about the 2 pound gain – if you can eat right this week and weekend…it should come off in no time! UTIs must be “going around” my friend went to the doctor for one today – those are not fun! Hope you feel better soon!
MONET: I’m so worried about your health. You blood sugars are giving you so much grief! It’s scaring me! I sure hope you can get that under control and have it stay under control! I say go for it and apply for that job! I’m sure you would love it! Alexis is doing great! She’s having better days at daycare, eating well, and sleeping well at night! Can’t ask for more than that can I? I’m glad we are past the rocking in the middle of the night stages! I don’t miss those one bit! Thanks for missing me….it feels so good to be loved!
TONI: I love iced tea! I need to make some of that to have with supper. I hear ya on the heat – the heat and humidity is just terrible right now over here!
TECH: As for Katrina….it was devastating. I feel for all of the families that lost everything. But, I’m really so tired of hearing about it – everyday they talk about it on the news – you know the latest on the rebuilding, etc. My biggest beef was the misuse of FEMA money and all of the people that were and still are taking handouts where they can get them. I’m tired of hearing that the government OWES them. The government doesn’t owe them a damn thing. They didn’t have anything before and they still have nothing. Actually, most of the people that were “poor” are living better lives now than they ever did! I just find that Louisiana people are always portrayed as stupid, backassward people! It never fails that they will find the dumbest sounding, fonky looking person to put on the news. All of the stuff with Katrina with everyone demanding more money, blah blah because they were “owed” that embarrassed the hell out of me! How does that look to the country?! Oh – and the looting – especially the police officers. It was like animals were let out of the zoo after the storm! They are always talking about the poor people in the projects…what about the families in Lakeview and Chalmette and all of St. Bernard Parish – just because they are white and had insurance – they are barely mentioned! Also – it was like Mississippi wasn’t even touched – you never hear Mississippi mentioned – those poor people don’t even have the buildings left! I could go on for hours about this. I can tell you this though…..they did give a decent enough time line of a warning for people to get out and the day before the storm they were warning people that chose to stay – put supplies in your attics and be sure you have an axe with you so you can chop through your roofs. I remember that specifically! Bring an axe – but people just didn’t listen. They thought…well, we made it through Betsy and Camille…so, this shouldn’t be a problem. Now they know better. Let me stop there!! HAHA! I’m so happy about the news about a job for Derek – I know that eases your mind a lot! I’m SO SORRY you didn’t get the job at school…but God will open a window for you! I’m sure something else will come up! One good thing about Kyle being a smarty pants – maybe he’ll get a full scholarship and you won’t have to pay for college at all!
PANCHO: So good to see you! Sorry the little one isn’t feeling well. I’m glad you are happy with her teacher and she’s with a best friend – that always helps the transition. Alexis is doing great – we find out October 2nd if we get to keep her – keep your fingers crossed!
THUNDER: Congrats on the loss – keep up the great work!
BOB: I'm glad you got more sleep last night. We can't have you draggin your arse all week!
Well, now that I’ve taken up an entire page I guess I’m going to hit the sack! Hopefully I won’t have a crazy day tomorrow like I had today!
See ya tomorrow!
Missy
Solly 08-24-2006, 09:18 AM Good morning ladies.
I am so fatigued. It is so different than being tired. I have no energy and it's all I can do to carry this body and raise my arms. I guess it is the RA flaring. Fatigue is a big factor with RA but it has never been an issue with me before. I was in such a daze this morning I walked out without taking any of my meds.
I came home last night and was going to get a 10 minute power nap before going to the gym and slept for 1/2 hour. After dinner I had about an hour before we needed to go somewhere so I went on to the gym by myself. I was glad I did. I was so tempted to skip it and go shop in the Fashion Shop where they were having 70% off the entire store, but I passed.
Tech, enjoy those margaritas and just set back and wait to see what happens with Dereck. You are going in 10 different directions all based on what ifs. Things will work out.
Thunder, good to see you have lost those 4 lbs. Only 3 to go. Keep up the good work.
Nat, are you still going in the direction of being a nutritionist? You won't have any excuse not to get to the gym once school starts in Sept. We have joined a gym and I just love going.
Laurie, good job on your exercise. Another OP day under your belt.
Missy, what a laugh. I know it was not funny to you, but I could just picture all that going on. It's those kind of kids that my DD will have. I definately think that child should be made to go to a special class, school or home schooled. But obviously, the parents don't want to be bothered with him. See just another reason for you to take those pounds off. You never know when you will be on the run. You would think 1st grade would be a little tamer. You have my utmost respect.
BOB. glad you stayed asleep. Sometimes it is mind over matter. I would definately switch Lunestas.
Guess I'll go see how much stuff I can screw up in my fog. Be back later.
ThinWithin225 08-24-2006, 09:43 AM Fruit-Sean's band halftime show is "the Magical Mystery Tour- a tribute to the Beatles" So far they have A Hard days night and Hey Jude ready. They also have the music to Elenor Rigby and Yesterday that they will work on and add to the show as it's ready. I watched band practice Monday night and I am such a softie, I had tears in my eyes just watching them. They have come so far and seem so grown up. I'm very glad that Sean is loving high school and involved in things that he loves, but he sure is "leaviing us" fast! They also have some great songs to play in the stands~Tequila, Wipeout, Louie Louie, Gimme some lovin', etc.
techwife 08-24-2006, 10:44 AM :faint: I don't know how many ups and downs I can take...if it weren't for BAD luck, we wouldn't have ANY luck at all. Derek got a call last night from is new prospective boss and he told Derek that, yes, he's just the guy he needs. So, the boss (PJ) calls HIS boss and asks for funding to employ Derek. Well...you'll never believe this. The boss's boss says to PJ, "Well, not only do we NOT have funding for the new employee...the numbers have been so far below our expectations, that we need to let YOU go, too." So, PJ lost his job and there is no prospective job for Derek. And the lady that gave Derek PJ's phone number that also works for Whitech, also lost her job. So, now we're back to square one with Derek being Mr. Mom and me going to find a job that has insurance for us. I'm thinking Regis Salons. In considering Penney's before, I was reminded of the aggrevation and annoying rules and some old pet peeves I had while working there when I was young and think I'll give Regis a try. I can't do substitute teaching because I need benefits. BUT, if some great job comes along for Derek, then I'll take the subbing because this will give me the all important experience that I obviously need to get a full-time job iwth the school. but rightnow, we need insurance. So...
Missy: What you said - I ditto 100%
Okay...Kyle's kindergarten orientation is in about 10 mins...just up the road. See you later.
Ellen 08-24-2006, 11:13 AM TECH:  My goodness, your life events are more up and down than my blood sugar levels! It will all work out.
heartmom 08-24-2006, 11:47 AM Okay, stupid question....is SOLLY really Jack-k that had the breast cancer? I've been trying to figure that one out! I missed a couple months and am clueless now.
Alright...I woke up at 4:40 and the first thing I noticed before I got out of the bed is that my rings fit normally instead of snug. So then I get up and go pee(excrutiating!!), and stand before the mirror butt-naked(not a lovely sight), and I notice that my tummy isn't as bloated looking as it's been. So I'm like, well, I know I shouldn't weigh, but crap I can't help it..gotta see. And I'm glad I did. I'm down 4!! Woohoo! So now I'm back to my ticker weight of 169, but still have 9-10 to get back to my low. I'll get there. I'm so glad I didn't indulge in all the bday cakes(there were 3) that were in the breakroom yesterday. Anyway, I still have the UTI, doesn't seem to be getting better. I got some OTC pills that relieve the symptoms. But you're suppose to only take them for 2 days. So that means I have to stop taking them tommorrow night. Gotta work Saturday until 12:30- then I plan on going to the doc right after work if it's not gone away..which I doubt it will be. I can tell my period isn't far away because I'm extremely tired today! I feel very blah, the total opposite of what I felt yesterday. Here's my menu:
Pre-bf: a small boiled egg and 2%cheese
BF: LC bar(180 cals)
Snack: Probably a spoon of PB
Lunch: made a big salad with LS tuna, veggies, etc..
Supper: I have small red beans and healthy choice sausage in the crockpot.
Fruit- Sorry, but your post gave me a laugh. I know it wasn't funny at the time. I couldn't begin to imagine my kids behaving like that. I get on to them if they don't address an adult by M'am or Sir, which is disrespectful to me. Sounds like he's been way overdue for an old fashioned spanking. Just my opinion. I know that alot of parents nowadays(southern slang, gotta love it) won't spank their kids for various reasons. My I'm an old-school parent and will spank mine in public if need be. I remember when Ashley was around 4, she was really cutting up in Walmart with her Daddy and I. He spanked her butt in the middle of the isle and this lady stopped and gawked at us. My husband looked at her and said " Do you pay my bills lady? Don't think so. Butt out." She stuck her nose up in the air and walked off. Left me a little embarrassed though. I usually spank in the bathroom stall where the cameras aren't on you and it isn't causing a scene. So now when they are acting up all I have to say is "would you like to go to the bathroom?" That usually solves the problem, lol.
Gotta run, check back in later.
ThinWithin225 08-24-2006, 12:16 PM Heart~I used to tell mine "I'm gonna to take you to the bathroom, and it ain't gonna be to pee!" :o  Like you, I did not have to use that line often. They know what to expect when you're consistant.
Toni48 08-24-2006, 01:13 PM Sort of down today for some reason. I didn't even walk yet on the treadmill. I stayed up last night late and now I feel icky! Better get in shape pretty quick cause in an hour DH will be home and we have to go out of town.
Tech- Dang girl your life is crazy now. I hope it all works out okay. There must be a reason for all this. You have such a wonderful attitute.
Fruit- I loved your post. I can't believe how much you had to go through with this kid. I hope he gets help. And you don't wear out!
Sorry I can't finish the propane guy is here to put propane in our tank....
heartmom 08-24-2006, 02:36 PM Checking in- today is just awful. My eyes are all red from crying because I just had the rudest biggest jerk of a customer. It doesn't help that my head is throbbing and I have this stupid UTI, so I don't feel good anyway. And this is a long frickin' day...7:40-6:30. So I'm sorry for complaining, I just hope this day gets better, not worse. Got a customer, check back later.
Solly 08-24-2006, 05:23 PM TONI, sorry you are feeling blue today. Hope going out of town perked you up some.
HEART, Poor thing. There is just no reason for people to be so rude. Hope you feel better soon. I agree, it has been a long day.
heartmom 08-24-2006, 06:35 PM I'm better now. I took my lunch and felt better when I came back. Just needed a break. Customer, gotta go!
Talitha 08-24-2006, 07:53 PM I've beenin hiding. I ate EVERYTHING I could get my hands on over the weekend and was up 5lbs. So I got depressed and ate more... THe postpardum thing is starting to get to me, especially with Travis out of town. HE's in PA right now and flies home tomorrow night. IT should be the last of his traveling for awhile.
I don' t have time to get caught up, but wanted to say hi. I've started to psot several times this week and gotten distracted with the kids.
Ellen 08-25-2006, 12:29 AM Evening everyone! We are babysitting so Laura and Justin could go out alone for a bit. This is some anniversary for them...first date, or something. Justin is very romantic. She left me with a fed baby and a bottle. He got fussy right after they left and I fed him almost that whole bottle of breastmilk before he finally seemed full enough to settle down and go to sleep!
Tom is going to bed, but I guess I need to stay up and listen out for the baby. :)
Some friends dropped by tonight, and I fixed them some dinner. We had already eaten. They stayed and chatted for a while. I had intended to get into the pool again tonight, but it just did not happen. Tom is still trying to figure out what is wrong with the pump. I hope he can figure it out and it is cheap and easy! Poor guy has had one thing to fix after another.
Dinner tonight turned out really good. I sauteed some tilapia with bread crumbs and parmesan cheese, then made a fresh tomato salsa with tomatoes, black olives (kalamata) and fresh basil, and put the salsa on the filets. It was yummy!
Guess I will go lay down and wait for the parents to come home! :)
fruitloupe 08-25-2006, 12:39 AM Hey girls!
No time to post tonight - we just got back from the emergency room. Terry was having a bad headache and numbness and tingling in his left arm and face. He has been on High BP meds for a few years now so we got worried. Everything checked out fine but he has to go to his regular doctor tomorrow. I'll let you know how things go!
See you ASAP!
Missy
Ellen 08-25-2006, 08:47 AM Good morning! I slept really well, AFTER I got up and took some Ibuprofen. Muscles are sore from all the rocking and swinging... :)
FRUIT: Oh! How scarey that must have been for you. I hope all is well at Terry's doctor, and it was nothing serious. Keep us posted.
Solly 08-25-2006, 10:03 AM TGIF
Feeling smome better today, but still some fatigue. I plan on sleeping until I can't sleep anymore tomorrow. Probablys till be up at 7:00 No plans for tomorrow other than going to a friend's pool and laying on a raft all day. Tomorrow night we are going out for a friend's birthday. Sunday is a party for my great niece, she will be 1. So so cooking for me until Monday.
I will have to be very careful with my food though. My niece usually has BBQ. Either I will do w/o a bun or take one of my ww ones with me. Small portions will be the key word this weekend. I am already fretting about Sat's dinner out. It is a bar so I think maybe a grilled chicken will be my safest choice.
Heart, glad you felt better after lunch.
Monet, I still catch myself swaying back in forth when I stand in church. Comes from many years rocking those babies. I'm glad Justin is a romantic. It is becoming something of the past nowdays.
Missy, How terrible about Terry. Please keep us posted. What birthday did he just celebrate? This getting old thing sucks.
Talitha, don't feel bad about your eating. You need to take time to adjust having 3 little one around. Plus being alone isn't easy. Hoping that when DH gets home, things will get better.
Got to run, will check back later.
Ellen 08-25-2006, 10:33 AM I got my walk in, and just finished up my breakfast...a smoothie made with half milk, half blueberry kefir and a scoop and a half of whey protein. Yum!
I am supposed to meet a friend of mine for coffee in an hour, so I need to take a shower and get dressed in some non sweaty clothes!
I weighed this morning, and was pretty excited to see I have dropped about four pounds since Monday. I changed my ticker even though it is not Monday. I need all the encouragement I can get, and that new number just thrilled me! I will attribute it to the walking and the decent nights sleep, PLUS, I have tried to cut out wheat more. I was eating cereal for breakfast, but I think an egg or two, or a smoothie is a better choice for me.
Off to shower and get ready to go!
techwife 08-25-2006, 10:33 AM Missy: Holy Toledo! That is very scary. Let us know what the doctor says.
Monet: You are such a good gramma. I'm making a little something for you to have on the days you have him over. I was making it white, yellow and a little blue leftover from Talitha's, but I decided to make it all white and yellow so you can have it in case a girl grandbaby happens upon you. Just for you to keep when you have them over...something cozy at Gramma's. ;) And this way I can have you inspect my stitching first hand and give me your expert advice/opinion. :D
Talitha: SO nice to see you. Sorry the post partum blues are getting to you. It doesn't ever last long. And it'll help when Travis is back in the fold. By the way, I guessed on your last name from your...is it a fitday blog-type thing in your link in your signature? So, if I got it wrong, I hope you still get the package. I was on my way to the PO when I realized I didn't have your last name for the address and didn't want to procrastinate any longer and took my chances.
Laurie:  Here's hoping you are surrounded by nice people today. What exactly is it that you do? What kind of customers come your way? I hate grumpy people and just remember, you aren't their problem, you are their solution. Sometimes it helps to let people know that to realize they are being creeps. Depending on the situation.... And...WOHOO on the four pounds down!! I'm still positive that you work out so much that your gains are just muscle gain. But, four pounds must have made you do a double-take looking at the scale!! Good for you, you deserve that!!
Toni: I've been down lately, too. I know a lot is because of our lives being so up in the air....but I also attribute it to realizing today that it's been a week or more since I've taken my vitamins and green tea at night. I swear, it really helps to keep my spirits up.
So, I was in Watertown yesterday, fielding a few job prospects for me. I heard they are looking for 911 operators and the pay is really great! Between $27K and 32K per year. BUT, and this is a big but....the hours are great once you've worked your way up and can work the day shift...7 - 3 or so...but to get there, you have to do your time working 3pm - 11pm (so much for seeing the kids during the week...at ALL...go to work just before they get home and come home when they're in bed) or 11pm - 7am. The last would be the most likely as then I'd be home to take Kyle to school and pick him up, but I'd maybe get about 5 hours of sleep in the day and I'm a serious 8 hour a day person. If I don't get it, I'm totally lethargic. So, I don't know if that will work for me...in spite of the pay.
On the other hand, I went to Regis and talked to the manager. I'd make about half of what I'd make at the 911 place. BUT, I wouldn't be so stressed out, either. I'd have to work one, maybe two nights a week until 9pm which I could handle as long as I'm home more evenings than gone. And I'd work Saturdays and could work 4 days a week...including Saturdays...which would give me Sunday and two days off during the week to exercise and work on my book and be there for the kids if they need me. And, you know, I AM looking forward to doing hair again...AS LONG AS IT'S NOT IN MY HOUSE!! And this way, I can get a bit of a clientele going and then rent a chair in the next town over or even in my town by next summer and not have to work nights anymore.
Kelly Services surprised me by telling me they have benefits like insurance! Things have certainly changed since I was working. In the 80's, Penney's was the ONLY place I knew of that provided insurance benefits to stylists and Kelly girls ( ;) ) never got a benefits package. That's nice to know! Working for Kelly would give me some flexibility to not work on the weeks off the kids have (Spring Break, Winter Recess, SUMMER, etc). But I don't know what I would do for the two or so hours after school everyday. They say that between 3 and 5 everyday is when kids get themselves in the most trouble...either self inflicted or otherwise. Working at Regis, I could be home more and maybe have them home one afternoon till Derek gets home from work. So, I have some options, I just have to map it all out and see what I'm going to do.
Of course, most of my babysitting problems won't exist while Derek is home on unemployment because he'd be the sitter...I'm just trying to think ahead when unemployment runs out and he has to go to work...he won't be Mr. Mom forever!
Okay...so that's where we stand today. Of course, it's early...that could change. I'm trying to remain positive, but Derek was a little miffed at me yesterday when he started to talk about selling our house so we can pay off bills and then buy a better house. I tell you, it made me almost start to bawl. He thinks I should be more supportive and not cry. I'm not a big person for change and all the changes that have been happening are about all I can take...I'll have a mental breakdown if I have to sell my house, besides! He doesn't want to move away, just get a different house in town. I don't get it, myself...but I think I've gotten him to understand that I don't wnat to even talk about it unless it's an absolute necessity.
Off to make some eggs...will check in later on...
techwife 08-25-2006, 10:37 AM Monet: YAY!! Into the 250's!! What a great milestone!!
Solly: Have fun on the raft and enjoy relaxing...you deserve it!!
GatorGal 08-25-2006, 11:27 AM Hi everyone,
Looks like everyone's life is pretty busy.
Hope you find just the right job, TECH.
Fruit--Keep us posted.
Yesterday was our 43rd wedding anniversary. We are going out to one of the resort hotels this weekend to celebrate. I plan on not having any dessert at the restaurant there. Wish me luck. I weighed yesterday and am down another 3 pounds. Yay. I've really been concentrating on not eating when I'm satisfied or not hungry. I am also finding out that I have abused food for so long, using it to fill in the gaps when I'm bored, tired or stressed out. So it brought me a temporary "fix" but a long term problem.
I have been mentoring my son's girlfriends son who is in 9th grade. It has been interesting, to say the least. Keeps me very busy.
Gotta go. Have a great weekend, everyone.
PS. Heart--Yes, you are right about Solly!! :)
heartmom 08-25-2006, 01:13 PM Fruit- I'm glad for you and Terry that is wasn't serious!
Talitha- Don't work yourself up over your slip-up. Sounds like you were emotionally eating(I'm an expert on that--unfortunately). Just get back on track and it will come off in a couple days.
Tech- I'm a CSR(bank teller). We get grumpy people all the time but this guy was horrible. 95% of the time I love my job, I really like my interaction with the customers.
Gator- Happy Anniversary!
Monet- Since you went and changed your ticker, then so did I!!
I'm better today. My period started and I'm cramping, but I got Midol, lol. The good news is that my UTI is clearing up and I'm down another pound. But now I'm starting to bloat, so I'll stay off the scale for a couple days. I'm so excited to be back in the 160's though(Woohoo!). And I've done good with my exercising this week. I'm not even worried about the weekend. I'm doing too good to screw it up now.
Menu:
Pre-bf: small boiled egg and cheese square
BF: LC bar
Lunch- I grabbed a SBD pizza out of the fridge
Snack-dunno
Supper- McDonald's grilled bacon ranch salad with casear dressing
Gotta go!
Ellen 08-25-2006, 03:01 PM I am back from the coffeeshop, and eating my lunch while I read the board. Lunch is a spinach salad that has bacon and hardboiled eggs in it. I love the recipe, which I got from a friend years ago. I like it best fresh, as the spinach wilts if you keep it leftover. This is leftover, so the spinach is wilted, but its still yummy.
HEART: Doesn't just feel great to be able to change your ticker? Its been so long in coming for me...it just thrills me to see the new number! I just hope the lizard keeps working for me! ;) You are doing great! Now behave this weekend, or I am driving to Meridian to :kickbutt: ! :)
GATOR: Yay, for your loss too! That is awesome! I am so happy you have found something that is working for you.
TECH: That is so sweet of you! They live with us, but I will make sure the owner is fully understood! ;) Wow...you have some interesting options. I agree, you do not need the stress of moving with everything up in the air.
Talitha: I am with the others...don't stress about your eating. With breastfeeding and being a single parent essentially, its not unusual to be hungry and stressed. Once Trav is home, you can get back on track and eat healthy stuff...you know you want to do that for your kids. Maybe we can meet at the market sometime? Let me know when you are up for it. I might be able to talk Laura and Kaeleb into joining us. (my what a zoo that will be! Three adults and four kids! I LOVE it!)
SOLLY: I hope you sleep like a baby...um, make that an OLDER baby! I slept really well last night, and bingo, four pounds just fell off. I think it was the ibuprofen that helped. Have a great weekend!
TONI:  I hope your bout of 'downness' is long gone... You are doing awesome with your treadmill. Its inspiring me to get mine back to where I can use it! I actually got Tom to move the recliner..now I just need to make sure the treadmill is cleaned up and the area is cleaned up to put it in. (it has some 'stuff' like boxes and books there...I am a bonafide slob!)
THIN: Have you heard about the new Whole Foods they are building? It is at 141 and State Bridge...not too close to you, but from what I have heard, it might be well worth the trip. It opens Sept. 20, and is going to be a flagship store for Whole Foods nation wide. Its HUGE. If you ever want to check it out, maybe we could meet up and have a cup of coffee or something...I will keep you posted if you are interested.
I am missing some folks...BETH, COUNTRY, KAYEC, TEENSYBEAN...
Ellen 08-25-2006, 03:05 PM Oh, and excuse my new grammieness... Here is a picture of Kaeleb that they had taken a few days ago at the Babies R Us photography studio. Its hard to believe he was just a week and a half in these pictures! He is two weeks now, and growing like a weed. (Laura says he is definitely a piglet! :) )
techwife 08-25-2006, 05:19 PM WOW at two weeks he's already got his head up and he has a very grown-up look to him already! He looks like Mel Brooks! :lol3: Very rare to have a baby with such an un-babyish look to him at such a young age. I'm going to go work on his afghan!!
Ellen 08-25-2006, 05:32 PM He really looks like his daddy...can you see it in this picture?
techwife 08-25-2006, 05:40 PM YES! He DOES look like DAD!! Kyle was the same way...didn't have the usual baby face, he looked like a little clone of Derek from the second they cut the cord. Dad looks VERY proud, by the way. ;) Nice looking family!!
Ellen 08-25-2006, 09:50 PM TECH: I better hope Laura never sees that I posted that picture! It was the best of Justin, but the worst of her! haha!
fruitloupe 08-25-2006, 10:43 PM Good Evening!
Well ladies….I’m back! I know that excites each and every one of you! HA! This week has been the absolute worst of my teaching career! Today I had the parent conference from hell. My partner teacher and I were TAPED during a conference which I found out afterwards was against the law because we didn’t give our consent. The child is the little boy we got Tuesday which has some serious issues. He is really showing signs of autism but we can’t say that! Well, she came in all defensive and we barely got to talk – she just started talking AT us in a very rough way. I told her that we needed to stop and wait for an administrator before things went any further because I felt that I was being attacked. We never did resolve anything because they were 15 minutes late and we ran out of time – the kids were coming in. She wanted to continue the conference with the kids in the room! OH MY!! I was so mad!!! It was so hard to keep my cool but I had to because we were being taped.
Enough about me! Terry is feeling better today. He went to our GP and he told him to take 20 mg of his BP meds instead of 10. He is going to do some bloodwork and then wants to see him in a month. Well, this was not enough for my sister. My sister is a physical therapist that works on stroke patients and she was saying that it sounds like he could have had a TAI or a TIA – can’t remember what it is – but basically a mini stroke. So, I called the heart doctor and he’s going in for a carotid ultrasound on Monday. I’ll keep you posted!
My weight is slowly coming off! I was down to 285 this morning and I’m hoping tomorrow will be even less. I’ve been SO strong lately! I’ve passed on many temptations! Today was my friend’s birthday and they had chocolate swirl brownie cheesecake and I didn’t eat any!!!!!!
I’ll be glued to the puter this weekend watching ERNESTO! Everybody in our area is already panicking! I just love the whole tracking part of it – I wish I were a meteorologist!
Let me try to catch up on some posts!
SOLLY: Hope you are feeling better and less fatigued. I’m sure that is a miserable feeling. Tell you DD to invest in some good running shoes! HAHA! Today my principal asked me if I would be interested in going to a conference on how to deal with kids with behavioral disorders! I was like hell yeah!!! I need it! HA! As for Terry’s age…he just turned 36. I’ll be 36 on Sept. 4th! We are getting up there!! His uncle died at 39 of a massive heart attack. That’s why we don’t mess around with this – heart disease is in his family.
THIN: I LOVE the Beatles! I’m sure that will be a great show. Best of luck to them with marching season!
TECH: I don’t even know what to say (that’s a first!) but when it rains it pours huh? I’m so sorry about what’s going on with the job situation! I’m going to say some special job prayers for you! I didn't realize that companies like Regis had benefits. What about Wal-Mart – they have hair salons. 911 dispatcher sounds interesting!
HEART: Sorry that you are still suffering with the UTI. You need to get some real meds for that! WTG on the 4 pound loss! You go girl. Just think – after your period you’ll be down even more! I hear ya on the butt whippins! My dad used to spank us and then we would have to say “Thank you Daddy for making me a better person!” HAHAH! As for the rude customer…Oh the joys of working with the general public!! Don’t ya just love it?
TONI: Hopefully he does get help but in reality he probably won’t. The kids we deal with aren’t from the best of families. They don’t always care much about their kiddos. As for wearing out…..I’m so worn I’ve got holes and its just the 3rd week of school HAHA!
TALITHA: Get yourself together girl! Those babies need you in your right healthy frame of mind!! You can do it! But, while you are breastfeeding you are allowed more cheats than us!! Keep that in mind!
MONET: You are such a good hearted person. You are always taking care of everyone else! You babysit (now I know that isn’t a chore for you), cook, bake, etc. Your friends are very lucky to have such a generous person for a friend! I’m glad your dinner was a success! WTG on the 4 pound loss! I hear ya on moving the ticker – it feels so good to do that! Hopefully this week, I’ll have a big move! That baby is just precious – he does look older than two weeks!! What a cute little man!
GATOR: You are doing fabulous! Your weight seems to just be peeling off lately! Keep up the great work!
Well, I’m off to bed – I’m exhausted. I didn’t sleep well last night and after the week I had I need to hit the hay! The old me would have just gotten drunk! HAHA! How babies change your life……
See you tomorrow!
Missy
Ellen 08-25-2006, 11:04 PM FRUIT: Oh, my! That sounds like the conference from H - E - double hockey stick all right! Why do you have all the difficult kids? Or are there enough to go around to all the teachers, and you are not 'luckier' than the other teachers??? Last year, we had a couple difficult kids, but they were nothing like what you have to deal with. The ones at the school I was at were mostly spoiled rotten. One kid was neglected I think, but both his parents were lawyers...and he was smart as a whip, and manipulative. He was starved for attention, which always broke my heart. I think its a good idea to pursue more medical advice with Terry. Its much better to be safe than sorry. Maybe you both should start going for a walk in the evenings. Put Alexis in a stroller and go out for even just 15 minutes. It helps with stress, and just about anything that ails you! Its great to have your awesome self back on here...
thunderwoman62 08-26-2006, 12:33 PM HI all,
Its been to quite around the house and I've vacated the premises for that last 2 days until almost time to pick up the girls. It is a big change for me not to have either of the girls home during the day. But I am sure I will get used to it. I have gotten my house back in order in 2 days and its weird to have the time to do that. Plus cook or get everything ready for the evening meal....With just me to cook for during the daytime its bbbooorrrringgg..lol.
Bob-Ashley started to PreK Thursday..she blowed me kisses and waved as they left the gym and didn't even cry not one little bit until I picked her up in the car line...then she cryed because she didn't want to leave....lol But I'm glad she didn't cry it would have made me cry and I almost did as she left with the teacher.
Monet-What a cutie and he definitley looks like his dad. Hope your meds have gotten straitened out. Curtis is having the same problem with his.
Fruit-Welcome back. Hope things at school gets better for you. Will say a little prayer for you.
Tech-Am praying for you and hubby for the job. God will provide.
Hi to everyone I missed. Hope you have a great SB legal weekend!!!!!
Hi everyone.
I'm still here. I was out of commission for a month. I had walking pneumonia and laryngitis. That is better now but have no stamina, I tire so easily. Yesterday I was supposed to go to Dragos in New Orleans for lunch with the Young At Heart. Just could not do it. Thursday I had gone to the nursing home as usuall (I had missed that whole month), did a load of was, changed the bed and was ready to throw in the towel!
Unfortunately my stomach wasn't involved so if I could swallow it I ate it! You know all the soft things that go down easy but are calorie laden!
Still haven't tried to sing as throat is still a little scratchy at times.
Bad news about singing. I think I told you the piano player (my best friend) for the Joyful Noise died. Then Jerry (banjo/mandolin) and I got sick. Then Jeff had hernia operation. Then last week Jerry passed away. That's 1/3 of our group. I hope we're not superstitious.....you know...things happen in threes!
I am trying to eat right. Haven't been in the pool in ages. First sick, then rain. I burn so easily even with heavy duty sunblock (very fair, plus a couple of meds) so usual go out in late afternoon when it is partially shady over pool. Moving in the pool wouldn't be as taxing as any other exercise.. RAin doesn't help arthur either.
Will try to be more faithful. I have not given up entirely.
Shirley
thunderwoman62 08-26-2006, 01:50 PM Hi sef so glad to see you posting. My condolences on losing 2 band mates. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Will be praying for your recovery.
Ellen 08-26-2006, 02:40 PM SEF:  I was so happy to see a post from you, I almost cried. I am so sorry things have been hard for you...with illness and losing your friends/band members. Just remember you are loved, and missed here. The weather is going to cool some soon, and perhaps then the pool will be an ok option. I get in a lot in the evening when the sun is not as strong. Its cooler, but at least I don't get burned. I too, am fair and take some meds that make me burn easily.
THUNDER: I am glad you were able to let Ashley go off with the teacher without crying! Its great that she loved it so much! Use that time they are gone to walk! Shall we have a competition to see who can walk the most in a week? :)
thunderwoman62 08-26-2006, 09:18 PM Monet-I will have to work myself for a week before I can do any competing...lol Haven't walked at all since I got back on track its been so hot...over 100 degrees and the humidity has been horrible. But I will try. I start keeping a year old baby girl next week Tues., Wed., and Thurs. for 3 1/2hours a day and I can put her in Ashleys stroller that I kept. I will start monday after I get finished at church. We have a walking park so it will be easy for me to get to. Have a great weekend.
Ellen 08-27-2006, 09:17 AM Good morning! I did not sleep as well as I did the last two nights...I read somewhere dark cherries help insomnia...and I had cherries two days ago. Hmmm... (BOB..Try cherries!)
I am going to head down and make espresso. Will be back later!
THUNDER: Ok, get up to speed and we are going to have a mile or minute competition!
techwife 08-27-2006, 11:10 AM Just a quick hello - especially to Bob and Gator and all my friends in Florida, the Plywood State. Gosh...first hurricane of the season with you guys, once again, in the crosshairs. Hugs and prayers  that it's a weak one for you...and that my parents' trailer in Arcadia doesn't get transformed into a big frisbee like the last one did with Charley.
We went to the NYS Fair last night to see Jesse McCartney. I don't think Shelley will ever be the same...Jesse looked right at her for about a full five seconds while singing "She's no yooooooouuuuu...." with his hand outstretched towards her. I think she nearly peed her pants. :lol3: Literally, her walls are COVERED with Jesse posters. If Donny Osmond had done the same to me when I was 12, I'd have passed out.
Okay...just a quick update on the job scene. Well, remember the company, Whitech, that Derek thought he would get a job with and then the prospective boss was let go when he asked if he could have funding to hire Derek? Well, Kinney Drugs told Whitech that unless they have a technician to handle their kiosks in their stores, they are having all the kiosks pulled from the stores...so Whitech called Derek and he has an interview on Wednesday, once again, in New Jersey. So, we're back to me not working full time, probably doing subbing with the schools, and Derek having a decent job...BUT...I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm still assuming the worst that I'll have to work full time while Derek collects unemployment and then have to worry about babysitting for the kids when unemployment runs out and Derek has to take a job at half the annual Salary that Konica and Noritsu was paying. I'll count the chickens once they've hatched and not get excited.
Okay...have to go be with the family!! Talk to you guys later on.
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 08-27-2006, 11:11 AM Monet,
Will give them a try. Absolutely LOVE cherries and could eat my weight in them!
It's a dreary, rainy day here on the SUNCOAST...We were going on a mission to the SUPER WALMART, but I'm not getting KATE out in this...it's too hard to get her in and out of the car to get caught in a storm! I told her we'll go next week...
KRIS...GET TO TRACKING GIRLFRIEND!!! We've got an official TROPICAL STORM out there and if it stays on course, it's headed straight for NEW ORLEANS!!!
BOB
techwife 08-27-2006, 11:39 AM I'm giving it to ya straight, Bob...this is what the Weather Channel is saying: We've got a Himacaine on our hands (what I call the hurricaines with boy names...) And it's not in a favorable track for yous guys in Florida... :(
http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm5/projectedpath_large.html?from=wxcenter_maps
I've got a sleeper sofa up here where I live next to Canada if anyone on the Gulf Coast would like to move in until November!!
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 08-27-2006, 08:08 PM EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!
I'm about to hit the 4 poster and watch some TV....BIG BROTHER at 8P.M.!!!
KRIS...It's tempting...especially with the DANG THING heading straight at me!
Ok, I'm off...gonna watch some of the EMMY's until BB comes on...
BOB
Hi!
Went to church for the first time in about 5 or 6 weeks. Then 12 of us went out to lunch at Tres Los Amigos. I wasn't too good, I had nachos. Then came home and napped. I seem to tire easily.
Watched some of the Emmys tonight. Missed the first part talking to my girlfriend in Ohio.
MONET: Didn't want to bring someone almost to tears. I just need so much help and strength and know I can find it here.
BOB: Somethings never change you still do great posts. I appreciate the jokes you send me.
If anyone has some jokes, quizzes for seniors, reminisce type things please email them to me I use them in the nursing home groups.
Hard to believe Katrina was a year ago. Look around here and you'd think it was just a short time ago. Right here in Slidell there are houses that haven't been touched, stranded boats etc. New Orleans seems fine if yu are in the French Quarter, but two blocks away it's a scrap yard.
Trying to get myself back on schedule, but I think I am ready for bed. Will check in tomorrow....promise.
Shirley
