Anyone up for a Thanksgiving Challenge? We've got approx 14 weeks.

Let's all weigh in tomorrow (Wed 8/16) with a final weigh in on the day before Thanksgiving (Wed 11/22) and weekly (or how often you'd like) check ins.

This would be a great way to begin the holidays, with a huge accomplishment under our belts.

Anyone? Weigh in tomorrow! (Wed Aug 16).

Let's post our weight goals and our approach for losing the weight.

My goal: I know it sounds very aggressive, is 37 lbs by Nov 22 (day before Thanksgiving). I am 186 and I'd like to be 149 by then. That is 2 1/2 lbs per week, average.

My approach: I plan to stick to a 1200 cal diet, plenty of protein, veg and fruits. For exercise I plan to do cardio 30 mins/6x a week and lift 6x a week, alternating upper and lower body. I am training for a 5k on Sept 17.

You can also use the ticker. Make one yourself at http://www.tickerfactory.com. It's pretty simple. Just add the code that gets generated to your signature under "user control panel" (CP).

How about you guys?

This looks like a great place for newbies like me to start!! (well, new to the boards, not new to the PLAN)

Well if I 'm 235 now (give or take) my Thanksgiving goal will be 215....I'll weigh in tomorrow to mark my "official" weight....I work 7p-7a night shift tonight so my weigh in will be around 2pm or so.

My plan will be to get to that gym 3-4 days a week and stick to a reasonable diet plan, 1500 cal? I'm not great at counting actual calories, etc., I just try to make smart choices.

OK pals.....looking forward to the support and the love....will check in tomorra

Hi, I would like to join. If it is about 14 weeks, I would like to lose 28 lbs by then. That is about 2 lbs per week and I should be able to do that. I am basically following points and working out. I am just now really getting going so this is perfect! Looking forward to losing with you guys!

I would love to be 30 lbs thinner by Thanksgiving. I see there are alot of newbies here so I think this is the place for me. I am 266.5 lbs today. I'll come back in the morning and post my weight. I'm a calorie counter so let me see if I can get the job done. See you all tomorrow.

I'm so in, I need something to help me get motivated :D

I'll go for 20 pounds by thanksgiving. My current plan is to eat around 1,300ish calories a day. I've been doing pretty good lately, in the food part. Eating tons of veggies and fruit (this from a person who used to live on chips and bread and other carbs :-P), and trying to get tons of protein too. I need to step up the exercise (walk at least 4 days a week, and weights on off-days) and drink more water. Time to start getting up at 5 am to get a walk in before work ><

Good luck girls! :D

Here we are, ladies. Let's accomplish this together. I plan on posting any tips I find successful, as well as my weight updates.

Weight: 185 (down a lb from yesterday!)
Thanksgiving Goal: 149 (my college weight)
= 36 lb loss / 2.5 lbs per week

A couple of tips I've found to work:
- Nestle Carb Select hot chocolate in the evening (25 cals)
- power pops (lolipops which contain hoodia and help curb appetite, supposedly. mainly they keep my mouth busy. 24 cals and can be bought on ebay. Just search for "power pops". I cut the stick off and pop it in my mouth so that my 2 year old won't ask for one.

Okay my offical Weigh In today was: 151
I want to lose 20lbs by Thanksgiving, That will put my goal at: 131
To do this I plan to at least 4days of exercise a week, and I also plan on concentrating my eating to just whole foods and correct portions. Im also going to check in here everyday to help keep me motivated and accountable.
Good Luck Ladies!!:carrot:

Wow, SugarRox. You've come a long way! How long did it take you to lose the 66 lbs? Right now you are exactly where I want to be after this challenge - 149. Do you mind if I ask: what size are you at that weight? I'm thinking at 5'6 I would be wearing size 8 or 10, but who knows. Sizes run differently, I know.

Great job!

I joined the web-site a while back but I haven't been very active. I would like to have some motivation for a Thanksgiving loss goal. I am doing cardio kickboxing three times a week and eating between 1000 ann 1200 calories a day. Some say that my caloiries are too few and my body will not lose as fast. Does anyone have any insight on that?

Anyway I think I am currently around 200lbs so I would like to hit 180 for my Thanksgiving goal. I'll be going back to WW weigh ins starting in September so I'll be able to confirm my weights weekly starting then. I'm having some work problems and relationship problems right now which are making me weaken on eating right. Hopefully this goal will help me focus away from the things I can't change and onto what I can.

Its taken about 2-3 years to get where I am today. Im 5'4, I started at a size 16 and Im currently a size 8. Im only 18, soon to be 19 (Sept 26.) my weightloss was slow (but thats good right?) I would say mainly because I was still in school, and I had several things to focus on and not enough time in the day. Im still not comfortable with my weight at all, hopefully this challenge will help me get my butt in gear so I can finally reach my goal.

Does anyone object to me posting and updating a list of everyone, their goals and their progress on a weekly basis?

Sometimes I join these groups and I feel like I post and no one reads it, and it makes it easier to just drop out of the challenge or thread.

I can make a list and post it to this thread with Subject: Group Goals.
Each week the updated post will have the subject Group Progress and have the amount of weight lost for each person.

Any objections to doing this?

Thanks!

AWWW MAN!!!!!!!!! I just typed this elaborate goal, plan etc....and the browser bumped me off the site and erased it!!! So I'll condense it, which I should have in the first place...I get a bit gabby being so excited and all.

WEIGHT-now 232...so 210 (-22)

WATER- 80 + oz / day

EXERCISE--4-5 days/week (currently barely getting there 3 days)

DIET--1200 cal, more VEGGIES---not a great veg eater, need to work on that.

Lets see if this ticker works...GOOD LUCK YA'LL!

Awesome. Night is the hardest for me. I just have to remind myself: either I can choose to wake up thinner or wake up regretful. I'm sick of starting over every day.

One thing that helps me is to keep a calendar inside my bathroom cabinet. When I have a good eating day I cross out the day in pink marker. If I mess up I color the day all in purple marker. I also fill in my exercise in the square. For example:

2.5 mi/30 min
upper/Abs

This means I ran 2.5 miles in 30 mins and did upper lifting and crunches.

I strive to get as many pink X days as possible. I discovered that about 60-70% of the time I was cheating with my eating. This is over the course of the past 6 months. With that I lost about 15 lbs. Just think what I could have accomplished if I had kept the cheating down to 5-10%.

Hi Everyone! :)

Just checking in. I did great with my eating yesterday, and drank plenty of water. No exercise though, but tomorrow I plan on joining a gym that is walking distance from my house. :cb:

How do yall manage to stay active at work? I work in a small office and on the days that i work im the only one running the office. I cant really get up and go walk around outside because i cant leave the office unattended. Honestly, I feel gross (if that makes sense) just sitting here all day. Hopefully thatll change when I start working out after work.

Hope everyone has a GREAT day

I think getting an hour in at the gym, 30 minutes of intense cardio, should offset any inactivity for the rest of the day. It will make you feel better sitting all day in your job, as well. I run for 30 minutes, even if it is a slow jog. I get really sweaty and my heart rate is up there. Then I do weight lifting - heavy weights. The building of muscle also helps burn calories while you are at rest.

You are doing something right, Rox, look at how much you have lost!!! You are almost at your goal! :)

Hi Rox, everyone!!!

Let us know if you join that gym! My gym is wallking distance from my house too, my "trainer" wants me to walk there sometimes as part of the plan, but usually I have to go pick up the kids afterwards or some errand so I usually drive.

I get alot of exercise at my job~~ nurse on a busy med surg floor, but working midnights is a little slower than when I worked days. Once wore a pedometer to work and walked nearly 7 miles in an 8 hr shift. Plus heavy lifting. Even though you are the only one in the office, you still get a lunch break right? Maybe you can walk around the block then...or someone can come relieve you once in awhile?

Next weigh in: Wed 8/23.
I'll post the new results on Thursday afternoon, 8/24.

It looks like my goal may be a bit aggressive (36 lbs) compared to the rest of you. I hope I'm not setting myself up for disappointment. I just feel like I've fooled around with this for too long. Started Feb and only have lost about 15 lbs in 6 1/2 months. I wanted to have lost about 60 by now!!!

Let's stick with it and we will be thinner by the DAY!

looks good mellyann.. I'm really excited about this challenege. I know we all can do it!

Yesterday was good. I couldnt go running like I usually do because I locked my keys in the house and I had all my stuff to carry around, so instead I had my dad drop me off at the mall, left my stuff in Matt's car while he got off of work (Hilo Hattie) and I power-walked around the mall for 2hrs. I drank plenty of water at work, it helped because it was hot and when I'm hot im usually thirsty. I did splurge though, I had to taste one of those Crunch Wrap's at McDonalds. Its actually really good. Today will be much better. It's my day off so I'm going to be running twice a day.

G'day everyone! Glad to see that more have joined. I have been doing really well this week. This really is my first week getting started, so the Challenge is perfect. Thanx Mellyanne!

Mellyanne, your goal is pretty agressive. I was wondering if you have lost weight at that speed before. Some people are fast losers. Lucky ducks! I am not so lucky! If you've been able to maintain that loss rate in the past, definitely keep that as your goal, but if in retrospect you feel it is unattainable, you may want to decrease it a little, so that like you said you won't set yourself up for disappointment or feel like giving up. I based my goal on my rate of weight loss in the past. Also, since I am just getting started, it is feasible that I will lose 4-6 lbs the first week or two that will kind of give me a jumpstart. So, essentially, the easiest way to tell if your goal is realistic on not is based on past weight loss. Now, if this is your first attempt at weight loss, 1.5 to 2 lbs per week is about what is expected in general, at least that is what the sources say.

I hope that helped. I am really looking forward to dropping some major pounds by Thanksgiving. I think we are going to do great!

Thanx again!

Yes, the logical part of my brain thinks you are correct. But I do want to see what I can accomplish if I get my cheating down from about 65% of the time to about 10% of the time. With no cheats I can lose very fast. Let's see. I'm sort of viewing it as a science experiment, of sorts! Just please, if I don't make it to 36 lbs, don't say "I told you so!" ;)

They were very nice and replaced the disk with a new one right away but it did not work either. The gentleman said that their disks do not work on all players. Unlucky for me.

Good Morning Ladies!!

Hope everyone is doing well. I did great with eating yesterday, not so much with the water, and no exercise, but im headed to go check out that gym right now. I just wanted to check in first. Keep up the good work. We CAN do this.

I was decent with my eating yesterday, ate a little too much but not that bad :) My water was way better than it's been, I had about 100oz. YAY I'll try and keep that up today. I went for two walks yesterday, one almost an hour, the other a shorter 20 minute one. This morning I didn't want to exercise at all. But I forced myself to go for an hour walk anyway. And now that I'm back from that I'm glad I went, I feel so much better,

Last night I went for a 1 1/2 power walk with my neighbor mary who's 55. We were talking about weight loss and little things that she used to do when she started a weight loss group among her neighbors a long time ago... one was if they gained they had to carry a little piggie when they ate Or wear a little piggie pin. it was a cute idea... embaressing but cute. It makes me want to buy a little piggie and put it next to the icecream i have been dying to eat for 2 weeks.

I was kidding, you can tell me "i told you so!" you would be right! :) I am going to do my best to get as close as possible to 36 lbs and we'll see what happens. I am so sick of being a FAT turkey cooking a FAT turkey!

I'm gobbling my pounds away! And that's the truth and I'm sticking TO IT!!!! My Thanksgiving challenge has 8 weeks in it!!!!! I can do this I will lose about 6 lbs/ 4 weeks!

My day was good...I'm doing good within my points for eating however my choices really aren't so great! I must go shopping tomorrow and stock up on veggies and fruits and some chicken.....:hun: :turkey: mmmmmm

I know I need to get there so hopefully around 10:30 I will be there! Shopping for good eats & treats!!!!

BOPIS21 here is a "KICK IN THE BUTT FOR YOU"!!!!:kickbutt:

Okay Ladies have the will power to do good because it is within you!

JennyDee you are a true inspiration! You are a size 10 now? I can't wait to be a size 10!!! I am currently 185 and still wear some 16 pants! A few 14 pants. I figure every 10 lbs is a size, so I will be a size 10 at about 155. I am 5'6".

Any tips for success? How many points are you eating per day? I'm counting calories and sticking to around 1400. I tried for 1200 but I am too hungry going that low.

One thing I have learned finally is that there are degrees of cheating. I used to put one "bad" thing in my mouth and say, "well, i've blown it. I can pig out now and start again tomorrow." No more! Now, if I eat something unauthorized, I just move on with my diet for the rest of the day. The result is usually no harm.

HI all well today I did pretty good! My water intake has not met goal yet...but I still have a bit to do so! My son and I ended up going for a walk this morning; he rode his bike but we were gone 40 mins and I did my walk and running! Wow I think I did really good today! I'm actually proud of myself! I wonder if I will ever be able to run 1k straight soon and then 2 k...etc to 5 k? HMMMM!!!! That would be cool!

I don't know what I did today but I really hurt my foot! I think I did a bit too much! I think I will have to put it in a tensor for when I'm around the house! I have my running shoes on now and it is helping out a lot!

So my eating was okay I think I stayed within points but my kids had a b-day to go too and I had a slice of pizza some taco chips with yummy dip and a bite of cake! SO I did okay considering they were really small portions!

Mellyanne----thank you so much for the inspirational message! Yes I fit into a size 10 pants...I think I'm pretty much there! I can't believe it myself! I remember when all I wanted to be was a twelve....my highest pant size was 15/14 and 34 jeans @ 199! When I was around 180 I started to fit into a size 12.

For me I really just follow the weight watchers flex plan! I really don't measure my portion sizes...I totally estimate! So if I was exactly on tee I probably would be doing a whole heck of a lot better! But you see I love food and I do like the yucky stuff occasionally; so for me I had to have say Mcdonalds a couple times a week when I was first starting out! but I would count all my points!

Now I haven't been eating so bad that I'm not craving all the greasy stuff! I really try and eat for the body I want not the body I have! I usually eat what I want! If I want something I will have it but maybe just a bite or 2! And if I do overindulge the I take that for the moment and my next meal will be hopefully back on track..I try not to blow it for the day!

A couple tricks is I have a one litre water bottle with me filled up at all times and I continuously drink outta that during the day & when I am really hungry I will drink water because it may help subside that feeling and if it does not work then I go for a low calorie treat such as fruit or veggies! I also try not to eat after 8 pm!

& journalling tracking what I eat really helps me! But I eat the foods I want too and weezed my way into liking light and diet labled food!

I hope this helped a little bit! I also exercise about 3x's a week more lately since I've been seeing the scale at a newer number...it's very motivating and I like to weigh myself everyday! Then I can see if I'm on track or not!

CHeers to you..hope everything goes well for you!

Hello everyone:

Just checking in to say Hey! I have been doing pretty good so far. Yesterday, I didn't get as much water as I would have liked, but I am going to keep trying.

Jennydee, thanx for your suggestions. I agree that tracking everything I eat is helping alot as well. I use Fitday.com to track everything. When I lost weight in the past, that is what I used and i tell ya, the weight was really dropping off. I also follow Flex points. Isn't that a wonderful plan? I mean, it is great because it does teach you portion control. Even if you are guestimating, apparently, you have an idea of how much you should eat which means you've got the point of Flexpoints. It's great for teaching you portion control. I love it!

Well, I have a convention to attend all of this weekend and I have to get going now.

Bopis, congrats on your weight loss! Losing4Another, yes, my weight loss is for a pair of shoes. I am a total shoe horse but I am holding out to buy a new pair when I reach my 5% goal. Yep, I decided to do 5% because I am very reward oriented and so I will get rewards more often. I can't wait to reach my mini-goal. :)

Everyone take care. I cheated and got on the scale this morning and so I know I will be reporting a loss on Wednesday. Yay!

Ciao!

I'm so glad to hear everyone is doing so well! Compiling the list every week definitely helps me, too and also helps me get to know all of you better.

I blew it last night -- caved in late and ate cheese, crackers, apple and pudding - so basically i pigged out. BUT I am back on track today and we still have 4 full days before weigh in on Wed 8/23.

I've never done one of these challenges before, so I'm not sure but do most people usually drop off toward the middle/end? I hope that won't be the case for this one. You have my pledge that I will keep compiling the stats, even if I end up not doing so well on any given week. I will stick through to the end. I hope all of you do as well. Then what? Start a new challenge!!! Maybe A New Year challenge?

Thanks for the participation! :)

I am posting my latest version of the list of Thanksgiving Challenge members so that you can

1] Make sure your name is on it

2] Check your info for accuracy.

Each week we will weigh in and please post your weight difference here. The next day after 4 pm est I will update the chart. Please post even if you have no difference or a gain! Gains can happen even if you are doing the right things due to water gain. The next week you could have a big drop in weight.

If I don't receive an update for a given member by 4 pm the day after weigh in, I will put a N/A for that week and we can just update the following week. So, if you decide for whatever reason you do not want to weigh in, no problem. You are still in the challenge!!! I can totally understand not wanting to weigh in or being able to weigh in on a given week. It's the END RESULT that is important!

Thanks, ladies!

I also went running not walking or power walking but running tonight even after my neighbor said she wasnt going to go and it looked like it was going to rain. I did it about 20 to 7 which now I realize its too late because at 7:10 it was pitch dark but at least I know for next time. Me eating healthy is going well. I had a non-fat turkey wrap with flour tortilla lettuce nonfat turkey and low-fat mozzerlla cheese, also this morning I had a plain bagal and a cup of fruit, in a minute i'm about to make myself a salad. How's everyone doing so far?

Kept my eating in control today. I'm trying to plan meals before I sit down and keep portions moderate, and I'm exercising 6 days a week now. I've been on WW and calorie counting diets before and lost weight, but it came back on when I quit writing things down. I think I was tracking after the fact and not planning.

I'm curious about what kind of diets the folks on this thread are doing. Some of you have talked about your activities. I'm always up for new tips!

Hello everyone:

I did pretty good with eating. Uh-oh, we are getting down to the wire. Wednesday will be weigh in day. I hope that I will be able to post a significant loss. Actually any loss at all will be magnificent.

In terms of my eating plan, I am pretty much doing my own thing. I really love Flexpoints, however, I really haven't been counting points. What I have been doing is logging everything into Fitday.com. It really makes me pay attention to how much I am eating. I love that site. When I lost weight in the past, that is what I used. It worked great for me.

Well, I will probably check in tomorrow just to say Hey! But Wednesday is the big day. Gosh, I wonder how much weight we will lose as a group. Well, I really hope that we all reach our goals.

Everyone just keep pushing for their goal and don't give up. Please post here if you need some encouragement or feeling ambivalent towards your goal. We will probably all go through ups and downs over the next several weeks and will need the support.

See you guys later.

Ladies! First weigh in is tomorrow, Wed 8/23. I will not post the updated chart until Thursday, 8/24 afternoon to make sure I get everyone.

Okay, I hope I don't sound like a hippocrate, but I don't think I will weigh in this week. It is during that time of month, I am super bloated and I haven't been very good. I am afraid if I step on the scale it will work negatively for my morale.

Anyone else who wants to skip a week, this week or any other, for whatever reason, just post that you are doing so and I'll put a N/A for the week.

Okay, anyone want to heckle me? ;)

Melly: I think you should record your stats anyway. We're all friends and we all have and are going through the same problem each month. It's your choice of course, but next week when the water plus any extra lbs come off you can really brag. I've got a water problem too, but if I record it anyway, it will then be behind me and I can look forward. You are such a motivation to us, let us be a motivation to you. If I can tell you I weigh 265 lbs you can tell me the fat fairy peed on you.LOL I'd take your 185 + water weight gain anyday. Trust us. We're all in this together.
To all you other beautiful ladies: Did you know that the total pounds on Mellyann's list is 503.10 lbs? Can you believe that? Heck just a few pounds would be like giving birth. Say, an 8 lb bouncing baby fat ball! So even a 1/2 lb loss with this many ladies would be great.
See you all tomorrow.

he he I like that u2girl....I'm on my WEIGH too!!!

Well done you guys!!! I've lost ONE pound too...231 and I was pretty glad to see it, since drinking and eating so much at girls poker night friday and a semi cheat weekend...but I've been good Monday and Tuesday with some really intense workouts....WOOHOO!!! Every time I've told my MIL I lost one pound, she said, "dont you know what one pound of hamburger at the grocery store looks like? It's NOT nothing!!!!" (That one always helps me)

Oh yes, I am from Canton, Ohio, home of the Pro Football Hall Of Fame (big deal right?) and I don't "do" anything specifically, just go to the gym 3-5 days a week on a program set up for me by a trainer there. Diet wise, I just try to make better choices: fresh fruits and veggies, leaner meats, white meats, low cal-low fat, I guess...I really admire WW and kind of affiliate myself with that, though I don't really know all the WW specifics, I just figure I'm pretty close to that.

Back on Track!!! WE CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm down 2.6 from last Wednesday but up .6 from Saturday. I had changed my choo choo to show Saturday's weight, but from now on I'm just going to show the Wednesday weight.

Personally, I've been weighing on Saturdays for years, whether I'm on a diet or not. I record it in a spreadsheet to keep a history of my ups and downs. From experience, I know that I lose the most at the beginning of a diet and it tapers off after that. If I don't stay motivated, it goes the other way. I'm counting on you ladies to help me keep the faith for this challenge!

Mellyann, there are always weeks when I gain weight. Don't let it get you down. We love you anyway!

Hello Ladies!!!

Congrats on all the weight loss so far. Im weighing in today as well...Im down to 149...thats a 2lb loss for me. YAY!

I havent posted in a couple of days, so I just wanted to catch up. I did go join that gym, its 24hrs M-F so i shouldnt have any excuses not to go work out, but I still havent made it over there yet. Its really intimidating, and things have just been so crazy here lately. My eating hasnt been great the past few days either.

I hope yall dont mind if I vent. I just graduated HS, my grandma flew here from out of state for it. She got VERY sick while she was here and she was diagnosed with cancer. My mom (who is also my best friend) flew with her back home. My mom stayed there for a couple of weeks caring for her and ect. My mom came back to help get my siblings ready to go back to school, but my grandma is not doing well at all, she flew out again today. Im the oldest of 5 children, and my family is very tight knit. My dad is still here, but Im sure everyone knows that dads just dont do things the same way as moms, so im picking up where my mom left off. I guess im just feeling very overwhelmed. Everything has happened so fast, in a matter of 2 months, and i guess i just wasnt prepared for any of it. Ive always helped out alot, but i think whats bothering me the most is that i cant help my mom cope or get peace of mind with whats going on with my grandma. I think i truely understand what moms go through now, theres so much to do and not enough time in the day and u just cant fix everything. Im sorry for this long vent, and im sure it probobly doesnt make much sense since im just rambling.

But, I wish everyone continued sucess, im getting back on track today, ive done great so far today. I'll check in again tomorrow :smug:
Have a GREAT day ladies!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. I really feel for your family and especially your mom. When things like this happen, no one is prepared. It is a real feeling of helplessness that you feel. All you can control is yourself and what you do. It is even more important to stick with your exercise to help with the stress and help you feel stronger. Take care of yourself and things will be a bit better, I promise. You will be stronger and better able to handle what is thrown your way, and also better able to be there for your mom.

My thoughts are with you and congratulations on the 2 lb loss! :)

I've begun taking down everyone's weigh in results.

Okay, you talked me into weighing in! I did it this afternoon, and came in at a 1.6 lb gain, which I thought would be worse, based on my behavior this past week. I'm going to document it in our stat sheet, forgive myself and move forward. I am having an excellent day today!

u2girl - that 6 lb loss is impressive!!!!

I'll be watching for all the other weigh in results!

Melly~ Congrats on weighing in! See not as bad as you thought...I bet it would have been less if yah weighed first thing this morning...after the morning rituals!

ROX~ Sounds like your going through a lot right now. Sorry to hear that; I hope your grandma is okay and stays comforted by your mom...I know she must really appreciate your mother for being there and your family for letting her be there! A family should be tight Knit! As they are the little things that many take for granted; yet are the world to each other!

Congrats to everyone for their losses and efforts. Melly, I'm glad that you went ahead and weighed in and that it wasnt as bad as you may have thought. TTOM is a hard time. Cravings are strong and you may feel bloated. You have a fantastic attitude about continuing on and that is great!

Thanx for the congrats Melly. This is really my first week of eating better and letting go of certain bad foods. Typically my first week or two is a good loss, but then I go back down to 1 to 2 lbs per week. Thanx again!

Hello to everyone. I look forward to a new week with you guys!

Hey, ladies I just joined this challenge last week, what is the offcial day we are suppose to weigh in? Yesterday was my hubby's birthday and I did cheat a little, I don't want him to know I'm serious about losing weight just yet. Can anyone help with getting one of those cute weight bars on the bottom your post? I'm still learning the in's and out's of the computer. Thankyou and everyone keep up the good work!

Here are the results for our first Weigh in after one full week of being on the Thanksgiving Challenge. Way to go!

This is only the beginning. I am feeling really inspired by you all who have posted your weight and encouraged me as well as others. It just so happens that I am now down almost a pound, but I decided to keep my weight as is, to be true to our weigh in date of 8/23.

For those of you who haven't weighed in this week, no problem! Weigh in next week. We have many weeks ahead of us to lose the lbs! It is the END result that matters, not one week here and there.

Let me know if there are any inaccuracies in the weights I have posted.

Next weigh in: Wednesday, Aug 30.

Here is an inspiring quote:

I saw the above quote posted on the signature of Glory87, a member of 3fatchicks. Her very inspiring success story is posted here:

I'm also really glad to see how we're doing as a group. I added up the pounds and came up with a total of 33.0 pounds lost for the week! We're awesome!

Holyteror, you can weigh on any day you like. Most of us are weighing on Wednesday so Melly can record the weekly weight loss on the same day for everybody. This challenge ends on a Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. Maybe you can set another mini-goal for that time to help gauge your progress. How you do it is up to you, just keep losing those pounds.

Nixxie, should I add you to our chart?

I came across one of your former posts and discovered you have been living in Sweden for a couple of years. I'm curious, do you find it easier to lose weight being around all of those skinny, beautiful Swedes? Or is it more difficult because (at least I find) the food in Europe to be much better in quality. I love the cheese, bread, sweets, etc. They don't put all of the chemicals and additives in their food the way it is in the U.S. Even airplane food prepared in Europe is better! At least that is my opinion. I have spent quite a bit of time out of the U. S. myself, and I do find that food is a bit more difficult to get. They don't have so much convenience and everyone is not eating all the time like it seems they are here. The flip side for me was that I spent more time alone when I was abroad and would bring food back to my room/apt and scarf there.

Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing your experience! I love Scandinavia!

How do these things usually play out (challenges on these boards)? Do most people drop off? Will there be only two or three of us still going in the end? I'm hoping we get some late joiners, too! :)

I'm sure to post a gain this week but I'm still here. I've been on vacation for the past week and let it get the better of me. As of Sunday I was up which is my ticker weigh-in. I've done really well yesterday and today and am back at it. Kind of dissappointed with myself for letting myself get off track so soon. But no use dwelling on the past. :) Onwards and upwards.

I'll be posting my weight tomorrow but it will definately be a gain from last week. But beware I am back in full effect and will show a loss next week! :)

So I'm totally new here. I randomly (or maybe not so randomly) wandered across this site and thought to myself... "Self... not another support forum for the never-ending diet." Then, I started reading! The things I've learned today could fill volumes!! I am so so so so happy to see a Thanksgiving Challenge, as my wedding day is two days after Thanksgiving. I really like the idea of having someone (or perhaps many) to talk to, whine to, complain with, and support through this very exciting and stressful next few months.
At the beginning of 2006, my cousin passed away from weight related illnesses. She was 4 years older than me. I had a very hard time dealing with the fact that so many of "the kids" as Grandma used to call us, had been dealing with weight and heart trouble. I used to be the 4th oldest. I am now the 3rd oldest, and will be second oldest within a year. There used to be 20 grandkids. That's hard to think about.
So we started Adkins. My fiancé, my 15 year old daughter and I started Adkins. We were kind and let the 12 year old have his bread. The daughter did VERY well and lost enough weight that her classmates oo'ed and aw'ed at her. The fiancé lost a LOT of weight and his co-workers commented on it daily. I, however, did not do so well. Apparently, I can put it on quickly, but the taking it back off process is much, much slower for me. Discouraged, I quit after 3 weeks of Induction - I know, I know... 2 weeks of Induction, but since it was working so well for them, I figured why not another week? Since then, I've gained another 5 pounds and can't fit into my brand new hippy jeans! I bought them and have never worn them.
Today, I start anew. This time, though, I will have you to help me, to encourage me, and to understand why I don't feel like going outside in 108 degree weather to take a walk. I came across the Sonoma Diet and it looks and sounds pretty interesting. There seems to be some confusion with it, but all in all, I think that it is a plan and a way of eating that I can stick to and learn to love.
Tomorrow, I will officially weigh in (early in the morning before my first cup of Splenda sweetened coffee) and start this thing off right! Today, I will eat healthy and put my Pilates machine to good use. NO, NOT as a coat rack!

Hey, that's the spirit! The ladies on this board encouraged me to post last week (were you one of them?!) even though I knew I had gained. This week I'm not sure, I might be at my starting weight! The good news is we still have 12 weeks after this one to kick butt and burn the fat!

Kyrie,
So great to have you join us! Your post really resonates with me. Probably because I've tried so many diets, including the Atkins. In fact, I did the Atkins before my wedding, along with my (then) fiance, now husband. We both lost about 15 lbs and proceeded to put it back on throughout the course of our 10 day cruise/honeymoon.

I have done the Zone (for about a day. man, it's confusing!), South Beach, and others. Now I'm having the most success just counting calories, keeping my carbs down and protein high (which really controls my appetite) and running/lifting weights. I started running 5k races (I've run 2 so far but am training for another in 3 weeks). I've managed to lose 25-30 lbs, but since I've been cheating like 50% of the time it has taken several months.

Everyone has to find their own way that works for them. For me it was a process of trial and error and as of now I'm pretty sure that this is the only way I am going to lose weight - counting calories and exercise.

You will get a bunch of support here. I promise. How much do you want to set your goal for the final challenge weigh in (Nov 22)?

Best,
Melly

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I knew that I would love this place. How bad do I want to see my goal? WOW bad!
I live in Arizona and, yeah, it's hot here. I am so out of shape that just climbing the stairs to our second story condo makes me short of breath and my heart beats so hard in my chest! I know that I have to start moving, but I also know that I can't take on too much too soon. I pulled out (and dusted off) my Pilates machine - even used it twice today! My mini goal is to get into that pair of brand new jeans. At that point, I plan to pull the bike out of the garage. I got on the bike about a month ago, or so. I could only stay on it long enough to go around the parking lot. That was depressing! I haven't been back on it. So, that's the Mini Goal Part II... get back on that bike.
Thanks again for the welcome!

That makes so much more sense!! Well, let's see..... 244 today, 12 weeks to go.... let's commit to 225. That's 19 lbs in 3 months. If I stick to it, I can do it. Maybe that should be my mantra... "If I stick to it, I can do it."

19 pounds sounds like a good goal! Good mantra, too. It is true. If I wouldn't have cheated 1/2 the time (or a bit more) I would be at my ideal weight by now. I started in Feb. That's 7 months. I'll tell you, 7 mos from now I will NOT be saying the same thing! I'll be saying I finally did it!

I hate to be a pain in the ***, but I was wrong about my weight last week...I started out at 263.4...I didn't want to know what I weighed until I had a week or two under of dieting under my belt..crazy I know, but I asked my friend to write it down for me...I just didn't want to be discouraged at the begining if I was way over 260. I will weigh in the morning, sorry I missed last week, I was sick... I am doing Push/ *although I haven't worked out at all yet* and Fitday.com.....Thanks for doing all this!!!!

I live in Arizona and, yeah, it's hot here. I am so out of shape that just climbing the stairs to our second story condo makes me short of breath and my heart beats so hard in my chest!

At least part of the reason I like this challenge is that Thanksgiving makes me think about cooler times. It's been really, really hot here in Texas. The last couple of days we've had a little relief in the form of some cloudy weather, but mostly the summer's been a beast. I just keep thinking about how nice it will be to put on those smaller jeans and a sweater and eat whatever I want to on Thanksgiving day.

Of course, I'll have to get right back into diet mode. This has to be a way of life, not a one-shot deal. I want to lose another 10 pounds to get down to my real goal weight. Maybe I'll see some of you gals on the next challenge.

Kyrie: You are so very welcome here. I found that this site is very friendly. There are so many super ladies. Everyone is doing their own weight loss program and sharing what works for them. We have alot of Weight Watcher ladies and they seem to love it. I to, like Melly, count calories. I've dieted so much over the last 45 years that I know the calorie count of dirt! LOL. Well, maybe not, but close. Read the various threads, find your niche and be part of our Thanksgiving challenge. You have nothing to lose but [B]weight[B]!

Hi everyone!
Bopis21 and Elyn congratulations on the weight-loss! You gals are definately headed in the write direction!
As noted in previous post I am reporting a gain for the week. :( 187.6 for me here. But I am still down overall and am back in the diet mode this week after a week of wreckless eating and lounging. Matter of fact I'm headed to the gym now to get my jog/walk in.

Okay, so I'm back to 185 after my weight gain last week. Back to the starting weight.

I've got to kick butt going forward, but this Saturday I leave for Disney World and my birthday is Sunday? I think I'm going to give myself 2 free days, then on Monday, back to the plan of eating much less.

Okay, my official weigh in.... 243 lbs today. I actually lost a pound since yesterday!? Starting the day off right with my first cup of Splenda sweetened coffee. I know that sweeteners can cause cravings, but I've found that Splenda really works for me. I've made a pitcher of Iced Tea sweetened with Splenda and will stay away from anything else, other than water. Bacon and eggs for breakfast and a salad for lunch. Sweetie and I will be picking up the Sonoma Diet book this evening.

4 lb weight loss

I was shocked when I got on the scale I had 4 days off of work and ate much differently than I have been. I have been staying on my calorie plan, but I am shocked anyway. My workouts have been less than consistent, but I guess it worked!

I went to Curves yesterday, I get a week for free, plus I go into a drawing for a year for free. I can't pay the monthly fee but at least I get one week! Not to mention I may be moving to Arizona so I am saving money for that possibility.

Oh crap I have to run, I want to write more, will be back around 4 or so...oh yes and I finally got a fitday journal, and I LOVE IT!! I showed it to anyone who would look...check it out (in my siggy) but keep in mind, yesterdays amts counted the fact that I work 12 hr midnights so essentially I was up 24 hrs straight (minus small nap before going in) so I allow myself an extra meal and snack...a normal day would be much less!

I am frustrated. I was down to 260.5 yesterday and I was a saint when it came to counting calories and today I'm 261.5. I don't think it was water. It's got me befuddled. But my loss for the week grrrrr is
.5lb
You better bet next week I'll have something to crow about!

Jadeddieter: The total calories is an individual thing. I have 2000 a day and I've lost 11 lbs in 3.5 weeks. FitDay says it takes 3300 to maintain my current weight, so I'm cutting 1300 calories a day and it's working good for me. Each month I'll have to reduce my intake to keep the losses coming.
Do what works for you.

poker nurse you normally eat 800 something cals a day??? I eat about 1,400 is that too many????

Actually, either I was still putting in entries that day and wasn't done yet, or more likely, I work midnights and some of my entries would not be entered until 3 am or so...you must've been sleeping....<wink> I get around 1600-1800 cal a day, but wish I had more control and went less than that...1400 is about RIGHT ON!

LOL today should be a good day, worked last night, so I'll be sleeping until 2, go to the gym, have dinner, etc but don't have to work again tonight, be in bed around 9 or 10....probably only two meals and one snack...but that makes up for the 4 meals and 3 snacks I'd have on a day where I worked and stayed up all 24 hrs. Maybe TODAY will be only an 800 cal day or so...

I have a zillion fitday questions....like, do you think I REALLY burn up 1800 calories in a 12 hr shift as a nurse? I mean, I work hard, but THAT hard? And some of the recipes not being listed as food choices is bugging me!! That should clear up as I save custom foods, but still....and elliptical isn't a choice for exercise....Great tool though! I've been showing it to all my friends! My husband has even started one!! I'm half worried that it will become an obsession for me, counting like a fiend....but I also have you friends to keep me in check.

Falling asleep at the puter here...good <night> day to you all! xoxoxoxox

Well, it's been 2 weeks since we started the challenge and we are seeing some GREAT success! In the attached chart I've highlighted in yellow the members who have weighed in this this week.

I am showing a pitiful 0 lb loss! Being the person who started this challenge, that is REALLY sad! Some of you have an almost 7 lb weight loss (lovethatsara!).

Okay, I'm going to get it in gear. Nursemichelle, you have reminded me that sticking to 1400 calories DOES produce results. Stay the course....stay the course....

Please let me know if any of the information on the chart is inaccurate. I'll fix it and repost.

I am trying to stay with a 1200-1300 calorie diet. But there are days like yesterday when I was hungry so I ate more I had about 1400+ calories. I also drink a lot of water! I drink at least 80 oz per day, but I have drank up to a gallon depending on what my daily activities are. I have noticed on days that I dont get my 80 oz I feel like crap. I also am very into my exercises these days. I ride my stationary bike for 20 minutes, alternate weights/pilates and I walk 5 nights a week after work anywhere between 1.5 to 2.5 miles. As long as I am moving for 30 minutes. I think as TOM comes I will increase my calorie intake because I am always starving at this time and I don't want to get down on myself.

We've lost a total of 58.4 pounds so far! This group rocks! I added up the lost pounds from Melly's chart and added in 4 pounds for Elycia. Is that right, u2girl?

I wonder where all those lost pounds go. Is there an Island of Lost Pounds, like the Island of Lost Boys in Peter Pan? I don't think I want to visit there!

Melly, LOVE that chart and all the work you are putting into it! I also LOVE that we are all in this together, supporting each other and STAYING ON TRACK!

So I went to BW3 last night for supper, we eat there about 3 times a month....LOL its fairly kid friendly, loud at least....my favorite dish from there is the naked tenders wrap, BBQ sauce, it comes with chips and salsa. It looks like one of the better choices from there, but they don't keep nutritional guides in store, and the website says something to the effect of they can't post the actual NV of their items b/c it depends on how you make it, how much sauce, etc. So for the fitday journal, I just put each ingredient in seperately, the cheese, chicken, lettuce, etc. So may not be too accurate.

****Food porn warning*****
The county fair is this week....dum da dum dum! The kids want to go, of course, I don't know if I can resist FAIR FOOD!!! So we'll see about that. I usually have bad weekends being good diet wise, especially now that I'm in this bowling league (mmmm beer....$2 pitchers, etc.) Plus DH is off weekends so we usually get food on the run and late night snacking...give me the strength!!!!

Have a good ya'll....holiday BBQ anyone? Big plans?

Holyteror
09-01-2006, 09:00 PM
i was planning a holiday bbq with my friend and hubby and her spouse.....but now she's commenting on how "she doesn't know when they'll leave or if they want to come straight over" blah blah blah.

she asked if they could come sunday and spend the night. i have no problem with this....but she's been literally dancing on eggshells for almost a year now cuz her hubby announced last Oct 1 that he'd been sleeping around. So any plans we make end up being super checked up with her spouse. and if he's not happy about it, she cancels. if he even thinks that it might not be a good time for him sitting on the couch watching tv playing his video game, or requires a shower and clean clothes, she cancels.

So after a year of bull, she's still dancing on eggshells. He's just lazy. and it's been hard on me keeping my mouth shut. but i've done it, frustrated as i get, i keep my mouth shut.

Makes me sad but i'm gonna be good eating. gonna make some good food this weekend.

Hi guys I hope you all are doing well and ready for the next weigh in. I have a problem/question. My scale has been acting really funky. Remember that I only had a .5 lb loss this week. I think that my scale needs replacing so I went ahead and ordered a super deluxe, doctor's office type scale. It will be arriving before our challenge is up. What if the scale shows a big difference? It wouldn't be fair if I show a big drop in weight if it has been wrong all along. Also, what if maybe, I've weighed more all along. What do I do to stay fair with the other ladies. Keep using the old scale for the challenge? I could use some input. I want to be fair about the whole thing.
