View Full Version : Dieting with Diabetes- The Long Hot Summer Part 2
Ellen 07-05-2006, 09:44 PM The thread was getting awfully long, so I thought part 2 would be a good idea.
Hope all is well...
Its raining cats and dogs here...and the dang roof is leaking! The pool is green, so I have not been interested in diving in it, even though it is just algae! I did get my walk in this morning...good thing since the rain is really heavy and there is plenty of thunder and lightning!
hefty1 07-06-2006, 08:16 AM hi monet
alls well here. sunny and hot here. :) glen
Ruthxxx 07-06-2006, 08:25 AM Cloudy before dawn, cleared at sunrise and now it's cloudy again. Make up your mind, Weather!
BGL was 4.8 this morning and I have given up weighing myself daily. I'm focussing on eating good healthy food and not too much of it. My ticker is alternating between lying and being truthful so I'm going to just ignore it.
Is algae a healthy veggie, Monet? MAybe you could swim and get your veggies.
Glen, I don't want to imagine what Toronto is like today! I spent one summer there at York and vowed never again! Keep cool.
Ellen 07-06-2006, 11:15 AM I wish it were a healthy veggie, Ruth. Thankfully, Tom dumped LOTS of shock in the pool last night and it is blue again. Cloudy, and the chlorine level is probably lethal to humans right now, but it will be swimmable by tomorrow.
Hi Glen!
creations 07-06-2006, 11:17 AM Nice cool summer morning.
Weighin this morning,down 2.8lbs.
Hope everyone has a great day.

meowee 07-06-2006, 05:25 PM Well, we are having another of those days when you feel like you can actually chew the air . . . certainly to thick to breathe it . . . ugh :( Don't know what is going on, this is definitely not our normal kind of summer.
Glen . . . Hi . . . haven't seen you here for a bit. How's it going. Did you finish your accounting course yet?
Monet . . . Hi . . . sounds like the weather is nasty all over.
Ruth . . . Hi . . . you've got the same kind of scale that I have, I guess. I'm definitely ignoring mine.
Judy . . . Hi . . . Wow, a cooperative scale. congratulations on that nice loss.
I seem to be extremely busy and I can't figure out why, probably just the heavy weather makes everything seem to take twice as long. Anyway, I'd better get back to it.
Have a great day, gang. Keep on doing the good stuff and the good stuff will happen for you. See you soon. :carrot:
hefty1 07-07-2006, 08:06 AM hi all
meowee i'll be done in sept

Ellen 07-07-2006, 08:29 AM Good morning! The weather is overcast...which means cooler! I am going to suit up and head out for a walk in a minute. I have not been as good about getting in all my workouts, so I don't want to slack off and have it become a habit. I have also been taking too much of a break on checking my glucose levels. The Byetta has kept them good, so its not bad, per se. I was checking more frequently, but it seems like a waste of test strips when it is always just about perfect.
I weighed in officially on Wednesday and was down two more to a total of nine since starting the Byetta. Supposedly, there is some evidence that it helps 'heal' the beta cells of the pancreas... I wonder how long that takes.
We had a algae infestation in the pool, but it is better now. Unfortunately, the chlorine level is too high to swim! :( I hope it is down enough to swim by tomorrow. I am really missing water aerobics.
GLEN: Not much time until you are done! :cheer: Do well!
MEOWEE: I can relate! I feel like I am running in circles...and my son in law got me hooked on a video game! I SO don't have the time! I am knitting a blanket for a baby that is due in three weeks, and its got to get done! BUT, I am doing everything BUT that!
CREATIONS: :carrot: Way to go on the 2.8 pounds! Awesome!
Josian 07-07-2006, 12:14 PM Morning!
Back in the saddle for Friday-work the main job, run home and get all my paperwork done, then go to the JcP. I will have a decent check next week, due to some good commissions, so I can buy my wedding jewelry making supplies... For four necklaces & earrings, it's gonna cost about $240.... but I'm using Akoya pearls and Swarovski crystals, so it's not too bad. Then I will just need to find the time to get them done!!!
Anyway, gotta run!
Hugs,
meowee 07-07-2006, 04:23 PM Hi there, sugar-babies . . .
Our weather is absolutely gorgeous today. Would be nice to have it continue for a while . . . just have to wait and see. In the meantime, I'm taking advantageous of the cooler, drier day to put some finishing touches on a crocheted afghan than has been begging to be finished. Since you have to drape it across your lap to work on it, it is definitely not a project for a hot, sticky day. :o
GLEN . . . keep up the good work, boy  I'm sure it will be worth it when you are finished.
MONET . . . Wow, it just keeps getting better and better for you. Hope you get a few cooler days so you can get that baby-ghan finished.
JOSIAN . . . Those jewellery gifts sound like they will be absolutely marvellous. So meaningful that you are making them yourself. Hope you'll post a picture of them when they are finished.
Have a good evening, everybody. Keep moving and shaking and heading in the great downward direction. See you soon. :carrot:
meowee 07-08-2006, 07:21 PM Hey gang . . . where are you all hiding?
It turned just plain HOT around here today, but at least the humidity hasn't been too bad. I am, however, feeling draggy today from the heat and my BS is also up a bit higher than I'd like. Kind of strange all around.
Finished the afghan (well, almost, I still have a lot of loose ends to weave-in) yesterday and threw it over the back of the couch and the cats immediately took up residence. So it has a good supply of cat hair before it's even totally finished.
Hope you are all having a good weekend, kiddies. Keep on doing all the right stuff and I'll check in again tomorrow.
creations 07-08-2006, 07:57 PM Just been cleaning house and cooking. Had the air on all day,its alittle on the warm side. The son and greanddaughters are coming tomorrow. Daughterinlaw and I are going to a stampin and scrapbooking convention tomorrow. So have to have plenty of food for them to eat.
Walked around the street fair yesterday, wore me out.
Judy S
Ellen 07-08-2006, 10:12 PM I spent the day playing a video game my son in law got me started on. I suppose I should not call him an enabler, since it doesn't take much to get me interested in games! This one is an awesome game...it is very complex. I finally got in the pool today. The chlorine was high still so I was careful to shower off after I got out. It sure felt good to be back at water jogging!
I hopped on the scale this morning, and I was encouraged to see another pound gone. I am wearing a pair of capris I have not been able to wear since before I had surgery a year and a half ago! :cb:
nosugarmomma 07-09-2006, 12:31 PM Well the weather here is nasty one minute a little rain and I mean a little then just hot and muggy. I hate weather like this. I need to give ya all an update on my granddaughter. She is doing good and gaining weight. I got to see her a couple of weekends ago and I just think she is most beautiful. Keep praying for us we still have to go to court on the 11th and see what the judge has to say. They made my son move out of the house (he was living with his mom, my husband's ex) and his mom has the baby so we can see her any time. But things will work out I have faith. God will take care pof us.......Oh my sugar was 197 yesterday and 153 today. All the stress of this is really affecting me. And I think I gain a couple of pounds scared to get on the scales......Ya'all have a nice day, and be safe.
meowee 07-10-2006, 06:26 PM Hi gang . . . it's been quiet in here for the past couple of days . . . guess we are all just hanging our and trying to stay cool.
Hope everybody had a pretty good weekend and didn't roast in the high temps . . . well, I guess 'didn't stew' would be a better way to put it, given the high humidity.
Keep doing the good stuff, kiddos. See you soon. Keep cool. :carrot:
akrosey49 07-11-2006, 12:28 AM Hi everyone..im home(we took everyone to my dd for a few days and then they caught their planes)..im sad to see them leave and i had such a great time and managed to keep up with everyone..laughed alot and cried alot and made good memories..im scared to step on the scale:?: but sl were in good shape so keep your fingers crossed..i walked so much and was so busy sightseeing with everyone that maybe i have a loss..anyways.. right now i dont want to go anywhere..just sit my big butt in my own chair..play on my computer and sleep in my own bed..its really true theres no place like home..and im sooooooooo tired im crosseyed..read all the posts so i could catch up on all your news and well check in again tomorrow..now all i want is my blankie and bed((((((((hugs)))))) rosey
Josian 07-11-2006, 09:15 AM Hi all!
Couldn't sleep, so up today at the wee hours to try to get a few things done... I hate restless nights, not to mention that I have to drive over 300 miles today.
Hugs
Ellen 07-11-2006, 01:47 PM The scale was kind to me yesterday...I was down two more for a total of eleven since starting the Byetta.
I wasted a lot of time playing that video game lately! I need to get a life! Today I feel kind of ill, guess I ate wrong. Too much starch and not enough protein for breakfast. I need to go fix a cup of espresso for myself. I think I have a caffeine headache. Lack of that is.
ROSEY: I am glad you had a great time with your family!
meowee 07-12-2006, 12:23 PM Hi everybody . . .
Just taking a quick break from the 'work-project'. The humidity is so high again today, it makes you wonder why it isn't raining. But I did get one pleasant little surprise this morning at my regular WWI and I have moved my ticker a tiny little .6 of a pound, downward. Got to take these little bits when they happen. Heaven only knows what the scale- may have in mind for this time next week. :D Unfortunately, the BS hasn't been too great lately either. Very erratic over the course of the day. Oh well, this too will pass.
Have a great day, gang. Keep doing the good stuff and the good stuff will eventually happen. See you soon. :carrot:
akrosey49 07-12-2006, 03:20 PM Morning everyone..its sunny today but im still feeling tired..maybe another stay in my night gown day..ive been putsying around cleaning out the refrig etc, doing laundry catch up stuff..and im in no hurry to go any where.. i told my girls if they were giving away diamond rings the size of golf balls in the grocery store i wouldnt go but i would send them:D ..my sl are fine but im chicken:stress: to step on the scale..its back to reality for me today..im glad to be home and in my own routine again..check in later.. have agreat day everyone (((((hugs)))))))))) rosey
Ellen 07-13-2006, 11:08 AM Good morning! My husband is home sick with a summer cold today. He took tomorrow off for a long weekend too, so it will be like the weekend already! :) He is a bit whiney when he is sick, so I hope he is not TOO demanding! :s:
I feel crumby today. I did not eat protein with breakfast, I just had oatmeal and the lizard doesn't like that! My glucose levels are still awesome...this morning was 90, yesterday morning was 84. It has not gone over 117 in three or four days. I am feeling encouraged, in spite of the nausea.
ROSEY: I hope you enjoy your 'mono' day. I had mono a few years back and spent about six weeks in my nightgown. I loved it! I read and read...and no one expected me to do anything! Now, when I need a relaxation day, I call it a mono day! :) They are good for the soul, now and then! Don't be afraid of the scale....
MEOWEE: .6 is still down..so congrats! :cheer: I hope it rains, or the humidity lets up for you soon!
rosettastone 07-13-2006, 04:14 PM Hi all. Sorry about being MIA but I haven't felt much like posting. Was up 2 lbs. in my weigh-in last night. Stress eating because of my ongoing landlord problems. What an awful way to live! :stress:
Rosey - hope you're enjoying lounging around in your jammies. I give myself a day like that once in awhile.
Monet - your weight loss on Byetta is incredible! Congrats! Is it because it makes you too full to eat? I wish I could take it because my blood sugar is higher than I want it to be.
Meowee - congrats on the .6. Every little bit helps.

Josian 07-14-2006, 11:38 AM Me? Get a PJ day?!?!? Not until the honeymoon, I'm afraid.. and even then we are going to be busy, busy! :)
Day 2 of my Colonix detox. Blood sugar okay, not great as I went with a coworker to McD's last night and had some soft ice cream-we were one over on the diamond count at JCP and didn't get out until after 10-good excuse to wind down!
Well, gotta order my jewelry supples and stuff today. Yay! Now, if only I can buy the time to get it all done!

moongoddessGA 07-15-2006, 11:09 AM hey everybody, I've been too tired / frustrated after work each day to get on line and post...Had my md check up on Monday and scale there was exactly what it had been on my list visit in March....but of course, by Saturday now it is 6lbs lighter....That's how I fluctuate......They mail the lab results to y our home...i'm anxious to see how my hgba1c is.
Have been following my eating plan well. and really trying to focus on decreasing salt / sugar..almost down to my lowest in 2 months ...resumed exercising , but i'm going to reduce the amt of weight work i do for now.....trying to get the gumption up to go for walks......
Mornings lately have been nice and cool..makes me start wishing for Fall...but should be nice and steamy southern hot by afternoon....heading out with friend to run errands, go see Pirates of Carribean and shop a little...will get my walking in at the stores....
have a great weekend.....
Ellen 07-15-2006, 11:23 AM Hey everyone! Not much going on here. We got going too late this morning to walk..as Moongoddess said, it gets hot here fast..so I will do my exercise in the pool later. I like it a lot anyway.
Yesterday, instead of getting to the mountains, we ended up at a large, oval outlet mall near us. The mall is 7/8 of a mile around. Lots of folks go there to walk...so we walked it 2.5 times, fast...then did a bit of shopping. We ran some more errands, had lunch out then came home to lounge in the pool. I got in some water aerobics too. It amazes me how the water aerobics works so well to lower glucose levels. Mine were ok, but I ended up being hypoglycemic and had to use those glucose tablets to get the number up. I found some sour apple ones that motivate me to try and get it low..they are awfully good! :o I know...I am weird.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
akrosey49 07-15-2006, 02:51 PM Morning everyone..Happy Weekend :carrot: ..its a sunny but windy day here..nothing planned for this weekend and its nice after all the commotion.. sl was 108 this am and i was brave and weighed myself..i gained 7.5 #'s :?: im not surprized and thats a wake up call.. back to reality..maybe i can hope its water weight..anyways i know what i need to do..pass along your smiles (((((((((((hugs))))))))) rosey
meowee 07-15-2006, 04:20 PM Hi gang . . . Boy this is really turning into a hot, hot summer and I'm already wishing it was over. Other than that, nothing much is new. Can't exactly say I'm being the best little diabetic ever this past week; hopefully I'll do better. Have a great weekend, everybody and I'll see you again soon. :carrot:
creations 07-15-2006, 11:13 PM JUst got done during a four day cradt show in this heat. Know I gained, nothing is legal at a street fair. But won't weigh until Thursday. Will watch my intake between now and then.

Ellen 07-16-2006, 08:49 AM Morning everyone! My hubby is off to climb a tree. (he is a member of Treeclimbers International...they are a recreational tree climbing club that climbs BIG trees with ropes and saddles) I am acrophobic, so I stay home! :) Later, I am going to get in the pool and get my water aerobics in.
My glucose levels have been good...the Byetta is doing a great job.
ROSEY: I bet a good bit of that 7.5 is water...drink lots of water, eat right...and I am sure you will have no trouble getting it off.
MEOWEE: I agree! The heat just seems to be getting worse and worse here. We have probably another two months of scorching temperatures here before we get a break! :(
CREATIONS: Oh! Crafts! What kind of crafts do you do? I teach art... I used to do pottery.
Hope everyone is doing well! Later!
creations 07-16-2006, 11:45 AM Feel better this morning. DH wanted to go out for breakfast after I ate, told him I'm not going anywhere in this heat.
I make and sell doll clothes, ragdolls, baby quilts and bibs. Been doing it for 32 years.

Ellen 07-17-2006, 09:19 AM Morning! New week, new cold. :( Seems I caught my husband's cold. I don't feel REALLY bad, just blah. I may go back to bed.
This morning was weigh in, and I basically stayed the same. Bummer. I did eat late last night, which might account for no loss, but not likely.
My bg looked ok this morning at 103, but it usually is in the 90's since I started the Byetta. I am wondering if it is the cold that elevated it. They say illness can raise it some. Anyone have any experience with this?
I hope everyone has a great week!

Ellen 07-18-2006, 07:48 AM Good morning! My cold seems to have settled into my chest, and now I have a sore throat. :( My bg this morning was good though...92. I am going to go downstairs in a minute and heat up a can of chicken noodle soup for breakfast. That sounds soothing!
I got a couple books you folks recommended... Diabetes For Dummies, The Good Carb Cookbook, and My Doctor Says I Have a Little Diabetes. I read the last one last night. Nice and solid info. I flipped through the cookbook and saw a few recipes I am planning on trying soon. Today, I am planning on settling down by the pool with Diabetes For Dummies. It looks like a good one too!
ROSEY: Mexican Train Dominoes is so much fun! Ever play Chicken Foot? Its similar... I am going to be a grandmother any day now...my daughter is expecting. I can't wait!
JEANNE: How long have you been on Byetta? I am finishing up my first month and am amazed at how well it works. I hope the weight loss continues! I think I am most excited about that aspect of it! :)
Jeanne88 07-18-2006, 02:16 PM Good morning everyone !!! Beautiful day today,,,but suppose to get hotter than hot again,,,:flame:
Monet,,,I have been on Byeta since the last part of April around the 26th,,,I was first on the 5pen,,,did lose some wt,,,but the bs didn't seem to come down all that much,,,then one more month of the 5,,,then in June went to the big brother 10pen,,,the wt loss had started to stop on the 5,,,now on the ten seems to be back I have lost another 5-6 pds this month and my bs is really getting better,,,I was 96 this morning,,,am happy with that,,I think for some people it takes the byetta longer to kick in,,,I am one,,,but I also have no side effects ,,,except I feel nervous sometimes after a shot,,,So how long have you been on it ?,,,and how much wt have you lost,,,and how is the bs doing with it,,,a 5 or 10 ? geez a lot of questions sorry,,,haha,,but it is always so nice to find someone who trying the same drug,,,especially one like byetta,,,,it really does give me some :dust: hope you get to feeling better soon,,,,
Well hi to everyone else out there,,,,gotta run and get to work,,,won't be bed we have air conditioning,,,,:carrot: Have a great day all of you,,,later,,Jeanne :genie:

akrosey49 07-18-2006, 03:25 PM Morning everyone..just popped in to say hi..wish i could share my cool weather with all of you.. the news says hot hot hot :?: sry for u all..hope it cools off soon for you..im being very lazy nothing planned and i like it that way for now..have agreat day everyone (((((((((hugs)))))))) rosey
moongoddessGA 07-18-2006, 07:25 PM Hi Friends......I 'm so excited and was wanting to share this with someone. My husband gets home later from work but I don't think anyone but fellow diabetics will appreciate this...I got my Hemaglobin A1C back from last weeks doc appt...it was 6.5 previously and is now :carrot: :carrot: 5.8....:D :D
5.8 is the lowest i've had in like 10 yrs...all I can think is WOW!! From what I can tell below 7 is goal for diabetics and below 6 is "normal"....fasting was 105..also good for me......
I must have been doing something right...even though the weight isn't falling off the blood sugar control is doing good...So i'm even more committed...and will "keep on keepin on"
Monet: is that Discover Mills that's 7/8 of a mile? ...i always wondered how long that was....i may have to meet ya there..i love Books a million.....
Well, gotta go exercise.....
Stay cool Guys !!! i'm drinking ice water by the liter
Ellen 07-19-2006, 12:03 AM Hey everyone! I am sick sick sick! This has been a really nasty virus. :( I even had a glass of hot tang this afternoon. I expected it would cause my bg to shoot up, but I just did my pre-bed check and it was 100...not too bad. I hope I feel better tomorrow. I have not been able to exercise in two days and I feel so stiff and sore!
JEANNE: I started on the Byetta a month ago. I am using the 5pen. I have lost about 11 pounds since I started on it, seven the first week, and the other four the last three weeks. I have had very few side effects...a bit of nausea is about all. I can usually keep that to a minimum by watching what I eat and how much. I did not take my second shot today, since I felt so bad. I will be interested to see what my morning bg is. I am amazed at how well the Byetta has been working for me. I don't know if they will move me up to the 10pen, I expected them to call me a few weeks back, but they did not.
MOON: Yes, Discover Mills is 7/8 of a mile around! I am not too far from there, but far enough that it is not convenient to go there every day and walk. I wish... I love BAM too! I also like the Hanes outlet, and all those shoe stores! Its just a great place! It would be fun to meet there! Let me know! Congrats on the great A1C!
ROSEY: Enjoy that cool weather! I am jealous! :)
CREATIONS: Do ask about the Byetta! I am so glad I was able to try it. Its worked really well for me! It might be just what you need as well!
Josian 07-19-2006, 01:11 PM Hi all!
My BG's skyrocket when I'm sick... I use double the normal amount of insulin when I'm ill... it sucks!
I have a doctor's appointment next Monday, which I may have to reschedule because a big project for work....I might be out of town. I wish I had more than the "day before" notice though.
Got my jewelry stuff, invitations are in... Things are SLOWLY starting to come together. I hate being last minute, but Ol' DF seems to thrive on it.
Bridal shower on Aug 5th.
Well, gotta run, the rat race just isn't the same without me! :)
Ellen 07-19-2006, 07:01 PM Hey, everyone! I am still sick. I hope it starts getting better soon, I am really tired of being sick! :(
I will post more when I feel better.

RebaR 07-19-2006, 10:38 PM Hey Y'all,:grouphug:
Sorry I haven't been around much... I've been out of town and getting ready to go again next week. :dizzy: I'll be leaving Saturday for a mission trip for a week...
How has your day been?:flow1:
For me, it was a normal day at day camp... as usual, some of the boys were fussing and fighting... I also had a doctor's appt this afternoon... good reports there. He said I'm doing great... Lab work for diabetes, cholesterol etc looking great... right where they need to be. :carrot: My HgbA1C was 5.4. We had to adjust my thyroid medicine again... and my iron is a little low.. need to start on a vitamins with iron... I have some (well, need to check the iron part) just hadn't been taking them... I was down 4 pounds from my last visit... not much but it's good... especially since I had gained and lost during the time frame...Overall, he said I was doing a great job and things looked good...
Monet- sorry to read that you still aren't feeling well.
Rosey- it's such fun to go to yard sales. Saturday is the day to go around here.
Jeanne- I've been on Byetta since October. I've lost about 40 pounds. I have learned and am still learning that some things work while others don't. I'm like Monet, I have to have some protein in the morning with it or I feel yuk!
Hope y'all are having a great day!
Reba
Ellen 07-20-2006, 05:17 AM I couldn't sleep, so I got up and got on here. I am kind of frustrated, since I feel sure sleep will help me feel better, but everytime I lay down, I can't breathe, so I can't fall asleep. I think I may go fix myself a cup of Sleepytime tea.
REBA: Where are you going on your mission trip? We went on one years ago to Poland. It was awesome....but then, mission trips often are! :)
ROSEY: I have two big orange tabby cats. They are both fraidy cats, though. Both of them are terrified of thunder!
JOSIAN: The wedding will be here before you know it! I love weddings...I am the wedding coordinator for my church.
Ok, I think I will try and sleep again....

rosettastone 07-21-2006, 04:15 PM Hi, all. Tried all afternoon yesterday and couldn't get into this site. We're experiencing a drawnout heat wave. Ugh. We've had 3 "spare the air" days this week which means public transportation is free. As a result all the freeloaders are messing up my commute by taking free cable car rides (normally it's $5 a ride except for those of us with commute passes). Well, today's the last one anyway. I've been drinking too many Starbucks iced chais but I've lost one of the 2 lbs I put on last week.
Monet - sorry you're sick. Hope you get better in time to enjoy the party.
Rosey - the furnace in July! Oh I would trade with you. Hope you get your energy back. Enjoy the garage sales.
Reba - welcome back. Congrats on the 40 lbs.:carrot: Byetta sure sounds like a miracle drug.
Moongoddess - congrats on your A1c. Mine is in that range although I still have problems with my morning sls. Can't seem to get them down.
Jeanne - good to hear from you.
Meowee, glen
Ellen 07-21-2006, 05:30 PM Hey, Everyone! I went to Costco this afternoon and got the flowers for the tables tomorrow. I also stopped at Harry's/Whole Foods to get milk and eggs. I got some Agave nectar too. Have any of you tried it? The brand to get is Sweet Cactus Farms and the GI of it is very low, making it suitable for diabetics to use to sweeten coffee, or tea. I have cooked with it some too, but it is so expensive now, I try to avoid baking with it and just use it sparingly. I find it does not affect my sugar levels much. It is the consistency of honey and tastes like honey. Good stuff!
I am going to take another nap now. Those two errands wiped me out! Have I mentioned I HATE being sick? :s:
hefty1 07-21-2006, 07:48 PM  sorry i've been awol. alls well here. it's been hot here too. my course going well. :) glen

Josian 07-24-2006, 12:01 PM Hi all!
3 days until my Florida convention! Can't wait! Took our engagement pics yesterday. I will have to post one for y'all!
DF and I decided to switch out our garbage disposal yesterday: Then decided that we needed a new sink.. House builders glued down a CAST IRON sink, broke a couple of tiles getting it out... Turns out the hole is too small for anything but cast iron, because the stainless have clips that attach it to the counter right under the lip... So, while the new tiles are setting (and the grout doesn't match!) we'll decide what we want to do.... We are almost to the point tearing the whole thing out and redoing it! :)
akrosey49 07-24-2006, 04:01 PM Morning everyone..its nice to see a few posts..Mr ken glad your classes are going well when will u be done?Did u like the movie? Ellen 07-24-2006, 09:41 PM Hey everyone! I am slowly getting better. I am still coughing really badly, with lots of congestion in my chest, but at least my throat doesn't hurt anymore.
This morning was official weigh in on the Sugarbusters forum and I was down a pound this week. I was pleased to see that, after the glucose spikes I had over the weekend! I started a new Byetta pen, and my bg spiked up 50 points higher than it has been in almost two months. I am guessing it was stress from the party, and being sick. It was still high this morning, but I am also wondering if not being able to work out like I usually do is also contributing. I hope I can get back to walking and water aerobics soon. Now if I start breathing harder than normal, I start coughing. I guess another day or two of waiting is a good idea?! By this afternoon, the levels were down to where they have been staying (80 - 90).
ROSEY: Enjoy those grandkids!
GLEN: The play sounds nice. Gosh, your class is almost over! Just about a month left!
JOSIAN: Yes! Do post a pic for us! Have fun in Florida! Its hot as blue blazes there right now. Wave as you fly over Atlanta! :)
Josian 07-25-2006, 12:06 PM I will wave! :)
I think because of the heat, I haven't been eating as much, and my weight is showing it! :) I'm only 6 pounds above now what I was in November! (hormone issues drove it up). Whew. Now to work on squeezing into that dang dress!!
We finally found a new sink that fits the counter hole! yay! DF is going to grout tonight, and hopefully we will have a functioning kitchen again by the weekend (of course, I'll be in FL, so it'll be all him!)
Pics should be ready by the first week of August and I will get a couple posted for ya'll. I can't wait to see them!
Well, off and running.....
akrosey49 07-25-2006, 03:38 PM Morning everyone here and those who are absent..another rainy day here.. sure would be nice to see the sun..im wearing a sweater today and the rest of the countrys having aheat wave:dizzy: congrats on the weight loss josian..soon your dress will fit and im anxious to see your pictures..the grkids are at my dd house for the next few days and us girls are going to go to bingo tonite..it will be fun to get out and about.. sl was 111 this am.. i am finding it hard to get my motivation back..im not being overly bad but:?: have agreat day everyone.. hope to see more of you posting and monet hope u are feeling better..meowee we miss you..(((((((((hugs))))))) rosey

Ellen 07-26-2006, 12:22 AM Just a fly by. I am a bit better today...finally! The congestion is breaking up so I think its almost over! I did get in the pool tonight for a 20 minute water aerobic session. I felt like such a slug not exercising for a week!
My bg levels have finally come back down after the weekend stress. I had hypoglycemia tonight...and weird as this sounds, I was encouraged by that!
Good night all! Sweet dreams!
Josian 07-26-2006, 12:06 PM Rosie, I wish I could wear sweaters! It's been over 100 everyday for the last couple of weeks!
24 hours till Orlando... and I have SOOOO much stuff to do! I'm off to work and hopefully I can get everything done and get some sleep tonight (doubt I'll get much, I have to be up by 2:30 am, flight leaves at 6, the girl I'm meeting and leaving my car with lives about 20 minutes from the airport, etc...)
Alright, outtie here. :) Update from Orlando! :)
meowee 07-26-2006, 01:20 PM Just letting you all know that I still exist -- although I seem to have absolutely no time to myself these days -- and absolutely no end in sight until this work-project is mostly finished up in another two to three weeks.
As well as work and the hideous heat and humidity, I've got an on-going car problem that is keeping me running back and forth to the dealership a couple of times a week trying to get it fixed. We are now waiting for the second replacement part to come in -- the first one proved to be defective. I've also got a really nasty yeast infection that I cannot seem to shake (probably a combination of stress and the hot weather).
Everything is not a total disaster, however . . . my BS levels have been OK (strange -- in light of the yeast infection) and I have not gone into complete diet meltdown. I even managed to lose 2.2 pounds this past week.
Anyway, gang. I will try to keep in touch over the next couple of weeks. Please don't get too upset with me if I'm not around here too much, though . . . I will be back. In the meantime, everybody, just keep doing all the good stuff. :carrot:
akrosey49 07-26-2006, 03:00 PM Morning everyone.. the sun is out today :flow1: and not a cloud in sight..i was abig looser at bingo last night but had fun anyways..im grocery shopping today..meowee am so happy to see you post i was worried about you..hope your work lessons and the heat and the car troubles too.. congrats on the loss..josian.. have agreat trip..hello and ((((((hugs))))))) to all rosey
rosettastone 07-26-2006, 07:14 PM Hi all. Is anyone else having trouble getting on to this website lately. It took me all day to finally get on. I haven't been too vigilant lately and was up 2 lbs. this morning. Not looking forward to my official weigh-in tonight. At least our weather has broken. The lovely fog came in last night and brought the temps down.
Rosey - glad you have some good weather at last. Sorry about the bingo, but you win a lot.
Meowee - You are really in a stressful period. Take some time for yourself to take a few deep breaths and relax. Congrats on the wt. loss!
Glen, Monet, Jeanne
Ellen 07-27-2006, 12:04 AM Just a fly by! I got some water aerobics in tonight. My bg's are behaving....

creations 07-27-2006, 11:53 AM Really bummed out. I'm up another 3.8lbs. That's not the direction I want to go in.
Had storms thru last nite didn't help our heat and humidity. Suppose to be like this for another.
Have a great day everyone.

And I go back to work on monday. So I will even be more busy.
My grandbaby is doing fine. She came home and she is doing great.
My blood sugar has been a little wacky. Am going to the doctor soon. I think I am going to ask him about an AC1 test I don't know yet.
Well the weather has been real wacky here latley. Real hot 104 to real cool 70 and raining. Seems like mother nature can not make up her mind.
Have trouble sleeping most nites. So I sleep during the day. Can not seem to sleep at nite.
Well I hope everyone is doing goood. I promise I won't wait tis long again.....I would not want ya'all to worry about me...lol......Huggs to everyone and have a good rest of the summer.....:balloons:
Ellen 07-28-2006, 12:43 PM Good morning! I already got in a 30 minute walk and 20 minutes of water aerobics. I have to go to the church this afternoon for a wedding rehearsal, then tomorrow I will have to be there for the wedding. This is the first wedding I will coordinate, and I am not getting paid, unfortunately. The next one, I will. :) This one was a fluke and a study in what NOT to do when trying to allow non members to use your church building for weddings. Its going to be fine, now that I straightened the session out! Ha ha!
NOSUGAR: Good to see you! We DO miss you when you don't post. My doctor orders an A1c test every three months. How often does your doctor have you get them? If your doctor is not on top of your treatment, and helping you keep things in control, maybe you ought to check into a different doctor?! Tight control is best for avoiding complications.
ROSEY: How is your weather these days? Some day, I want to come to Alaska...it sounds so beautiful! Still enjoying the grandkids?
 to everyone else! I need to go find something for lunch!
akrosey49 07-28-2006, 03:30 PM Morning everyone.. its cloudy and cool this am..my sl was 117 ..i had company for dinner last night and even made a rubarb custard pie..and of course i had to test it:dizzy: so the sl was a good thing inspite of the pie..my grson, mil and i played dominos after and by 10 pm i was so pooped and glad for my bed.. my grson is leaving today..hes such a polite and fun to be with kid(10 yrs old) i will miss him and he says he doesnt want to go home but i know his mom and dad miss him..me to..but all good things must end:?: actually im down in the bone weary..i need a few quiet days of doing nothing..monet.. i used to cater weddings and of course i did both of my daughters including made their dresses..did all the flowers and the food.. its lots of work but fun too.. and ive done the food for others weddings etc..nosugar .. i sometimes have trouble sleeping to.. have u tried tylenol pm.. helps me alot..hello to everyone else and have agreat day ((((((((hugs)))) rosey
Ellen 07-28-2006, 07:00 PM ROSEY: Wow! We have a good bit in common! I catered too, I do flowers...I did not make my daughters' wedding dresses though...the older one designed hers and a friend's mother helped her make it. The younger one's was supposed to be made by a friend of the family, but the girl screwed it up and she ended up buying one the day before the wedding! I used to be a professional cake decorator...that was BEFORE diabetes! Now I just do flowers, and coordinate. I might do photography too...my son does a good bit and we could work together. My older daughter is a professional cake decorator now, so we have almost everything covered! My son in law is a chef, and caters... Its fun! I LOVE weddings. I especially love the money! haha!
akrosey49 07-29-2006, 03:39 PM Morning to all the chickies and one rooster..its cold and windy here this am.. my sl was 104 this am..the pie is history:dizzy:..all my company has gone.. my grson is on his way home..his aunty and cousin are driving him back to his house today and i opted to stay home.. the thought of a 3 hr drive up and 3 hrs back just didnt appeal to me .. i miss him allready.. hes great kid and lots of fun for a 10 yr old..i slept in this am and i am having a 3rd cup of coffee..and enjoying th quiet and a good book..have several craft projects that i want to start but im in no hurry..question;do any of you experience being really tired as a symtom of this disease?esp if u eat to many carbs or to much sugar?.. maybe its just that im worn out from all the company anyways..hope u all are having quiet sort-of day too..pass on your smile ((((((hugs)))))))) rosey :wave
RebaR 07-29-2006, 11:08 PM Hey y'all,
Sorry that I've been MIA lately... life has been busy. I went to NC with my friend Theresa from July 13- 17, then turned around and went back from the 22 until yesterday. the second trip was for a mission trip. 22 of us from my church went to a Baptist children's home in Thomasville NC. This kids broke my heart- they are there for lots of reasons, but from what my group told me, lots of neglect and abuse in their homes... we taught a youth vbs but we also took the band and equipment etc for lots of active worship! I led a bible study for 10 girls and helped with the art track... we had a lot of fun but tiring! We got home last night. I was in the van that got home around 4:30... we had one man that was sick and the driver was ready to be home...so she took off and we didn't stay with the rest of the group.... well, the trailer had a flat and then later the church van broke down in Atlanta! (right in rush hour traffic)One of our church members is currently working in Atlanta with the National guard and he helped come to the rescue... the van was towed to a shop, the trailer switched to another vehicle and everyone piled in together... the last vehicle got in around 11:30 last night...boy did they have a long day! today has been a lazy day for me... I did manage to go to the grocery store etc this evening...
foodwise? that's a good question... i tried to watch my portions... but I didn't have a lot of control over what we ate...when I checked my blood sugar, it was fine... and we did get in lots of exercise...I'll see what the scale says in the morning....
Reba
Ellen 07-30-2006, 06:15 AM I couldn't sleep, so I got up and decided to check the boards. The wedding I was coordinating for the church went well. I am glad its over though. Every one and I mean EVERY ONE, asked me to turn down the air conditioning. I had it as low as it would go and it just had not caught up. It was getting irksome....
REBA: Did you wave as you came through Atlanta? I am on the north side, off 85. You probably drove down 85 through town, huh? You were very close to me!
ROSEY: Yes, eating too many carbs, have glucose spikes, make me feel worn out and tired. Before I was diagnosed, I thought my thyroid was worse, and that was why I was so tired. Instead, it was my glucose levels. You COULD just be worn out...you have had company and all kinds of excitement for the past few weeks! You need a good down day with a book and some hot tea! :)
hefty1 07-30-2006, 11:00 PM hello eveveryone alls well here. all the people that are awol come back. glen
akrosey49 07-31-2006, 02:49 PM Morning everyone :coffee2: another cool and cloudy day here its suppose the rain..im getting the dh and his brother out the door to go to the cabin and then i will have a whole day and night to myself:carrot: i know that sounds bad but with the dh retired and so much company this yr i crave some alone time once in awhile.. my sl was 124 this am a little high for me but i ate a granola bar before bed..it sure is quiet in this forum.. where is everyone..hope u are all having fun at least and not working to hard ((((hugs)))) rosey
creations 07-31-2006, 03:44 PM Too hot to do any work here in Michigan,if it can be helped. At the last check it was 94 with humidity almost as bad.
My bs drop to 77 last nite so had something to eat and it was 270 this morning.Haven't eaten much today, just too hot. We have ac but that doesn't seem to help that much.

Jeanne88 08-01-2006, 01:50 PM Hi everyone,,,hope you are all having a good day,,,:) I work for the next 4 days and then my son and girlfriend are coming for the week end with the kids,,,can't wait,,,and thankfully it has cooled way down,,,:carrot:
Have been reading the posts,,,I am still having problems getting on the site,,,but today it let me without throwing me off,,,ha ha,,,it sure can make you mad when you have a whole post and poof,,GONE,,,
Strange how different foods do our bs,,,some of us can tolerate some carbs and some can't do much,,,my bs has been really good,,,125 this morning,,,but last night I had a flour tortella with refried beans and cheese and salsa,,,,two hours later my bs was 225,,,,:censored: I really have to be so careful,,,,and some things that you wouldn't think would raise it that much just send it sky high,,,,:?:
Well hi to you all,,,have a great day,,,best to you all,,,,later friends,,Jeanne :genie:
Ellen 08-01-2006, 09:39 PM Hey, Everyone! Its hot hot hot here too! I got in the pool this morning and did 45 minutes of water aerobics. My bg got too low though..it was 59 when I got out! I had one glucose tablet and 20 minutes later, it was 95.
It is like an oven outside. I have tried to stay in as much as possible. I thought about going for a walk this morning, then saw the AM temps were already climbing over 85, and thought, nope!
My son has taken off for a few weeks to just drive around the country and see stuff. He called us from Denver and today, he called from Sacramento, California. He was at the beach. Sounds like he is having a great experience, and is getting lots of pictures.
I am really tired. Hypoglycemic episodes seem to wipe me out. Is this the case with you all too? Or is it just me?
:grouphug: I hope everyone is doing well!
akrosey49 08-02-2006, 05:15 PM Hello everyone..its cold and rainy here this am..my sl was 104 this am..am trying to be more careful eating wise..it sure hard to get back in the "groove"" after all the company and cooking i have done this summer..sooooooo where is everyone?? hope u are all having a good day and its not to hot for you where ever u are..i received an order for 200 greeting cards today so that will keep me busy for awhile..but its something i like to do anyways and can make some extra cash at the same time..ill check in later and maybe someone else will have posted(((((((((hugs)))))))) rosey
Ellen 08-03-2006, 08:08 AM Good morning! I could not sleep and got up at 5:30. I had woken up at 4...such a bummer! AND, I have an appointment at 12:30 and I have some work that HAS to be done this morning, so it is going to be hard to work a nap in there!
ROSEY: Oh! Do you make greeting cards? How cool! Your bg was good! Sounds like you are back into the swing of things. Mine was 95 this morning. I just LOVE seeing those numbers. Used to be, before Byetta, that my morning levels were always 150 or so, no matter WHAT I did! I am actually looking forward to having an A1C test done next month to see how much it has come down since June. :)
creations 08-03-2006, 12:30 PM I weight in this morning, down a pound. BS was 125. Will see my dr next Thursday and see what he says about byetta.
Finally raining here in Michigan suppose to have a slight cool down. Back up to 90 on Sunday.

Ellen 08-04-2006, 08:08 AM Good morning! I did a lower body workout this morning. I was so proud of myself! :)
I am going to breakfast with my neighbor/friend/massage therapist this morning. Her birthday was Sunday, so I will treat.
I resigned from my teaching position, mailed the letter yesterday. They SHOULD get it today. I will miss the kids, but that is about all. I found it frustrating that art was the first place they looked to cut the budget.
I better get going, but I will be back later!
Jeanne88 08-04-2006, 03:40 PM Good morning everyone,,,well it is almost afternoon here,,,late start,,this is the day I work nights so I slept in some,,,bs was 75 this morning,,,way to low for me,,,felt like I was in a fog,,geez I hate that feeling,,,:?:
Judy congrats on the wt loss any pds is a pound,,I look at it like a pd of butter,,,I am fighting with one pd right now,,,I have lost 39 so far since feb,,,slow going,,,but steady,,,the byetta has helped a lot,,,anyway I started out at 250 on the nose,,,a all time high for me,,,and am at 211 and if I lean to the right 210,,,,ha ha ha,,,that one pds is making me nuts,,,:D I only take it in 10 goals ,not so hard for me then,,,once I get this stubborn pd off I can work on the 200 mark,,,,I guess we all have different ways to deal with it,,,:carrot:

Well you all take care and have a wonderful week-end,,,Jeanne:genie:

Ellen 08-04-2006, 10:30 PM Rosey, I would LOVE some of your cold rain! The swimming pool felt HOT today. Yuck! I got in two sessions of water aerobics even though it was hot out, and the pool felt like bath water.
I am hoping to lose two more pounds by official weigh in day on Monday. That will put me down into the next 10's....It would also be 15 pounds since I started the Byetta.
We got some rain this evening...but just a little. Maybe it will cool things off a bit...
akrosey49 08-06-2006, 08:12 PM Hi all..boy this forum has sure grown quiet:?: where is everyone? hope its all good where ever and whatever:hug: the sun has been shining for 2 days now.. ive been so lazy today im not even dressed and the days almost gone..anyways i was out on the deck in the sun reading a good book..it felt great..im trying to be oh so careful and to loose the last 4 # that i had gained and then keep on trucking downward..ill check in later and see if there are some of you back so im not so lonely in here((((( )))))))) rosey
Ellen 08-06-2006, 10:51 PM Hi Rosey! The forums have been quieter all over. Guess it is the time of year or something. I got in 60 minutes of water aerobics today. It was cloudy, but not raining. It really rained hard last night! We really needed the rain too! I have spent a good bit of time knitting today. I am making a baby blanket and I need to get it done! Reading a good book sounds wonderful. What are you reading? I like romance novels! I have not read a novel in ages though. I have been reading a lot of technical books on health issues and stuff. I hope you get the rest of those pounds off easily!
hefty1 08-08-2006, 08:40 AM morning everyone. it's time to get to computer and report in.
alls well here. :) glen
Ellen 08-08-2006, 11:17 AM Good morning! I am really worried today. Last night my glucose level was 137 before bed, then this morning it was 143. I have not seen numbers that high in a while and when I did, it was in a stressful situation, and came right back down. The high number this morning upset me. So, I ate very carefully for breakfast, made sure I took my meds, and had my Byetta shot before I ate anything. If it is not back down to the 'usual' levels by lunch, I am going to wonder if my Byetta pen is ok, or if I am getting sick or something. I worked out three times yesterday, and I wonder if that might have caused some physical stress that the levels are reacting to. Any one have any ideas for me?
Good to see you, Glen. I am glad things are going well for you.
nosugarmomma 08-08-2006, 03:42 PM Sorry I have not been here. Things have been hetic here. My son has been doing the high school football thing, and I have been cleaning the lunch room at school getting ready to start. And my husband has been sick off and on, we took him to the doctor and he has a kindey stone.
I bought a bike and am starting to excersize. I went 2 miles last night, whew. My blood sugar has been good. I am still taking the vitamens my mom bought me, when I can remember. Just wanted to stop by and say hello and let ya'all know I am still here just busy. ;)

Ellen 08-10-2006, 09:31 AM Good morning! Yesterday was pretty eventful... My daughter had her baby yesterday morning...my first grandbaby! He was 9 lb 7 oz! Right now, she and her brother joke that he looks like a yard gnome. He looks like her husband, who actually is very nice looking, so hopefully the gnome will be out grown! I got to go see him yesterday afternoon, and will go back over later this morning. I wanted to let them have time alone, and to get some rest.
My bg was not too bad this morning...104..its been better though, so I am wondering if I need to have my dosage of Byetta changed.
ROSEY: Its still HOT here! I am SO looking forward to the fall weather. It feels like an oven outside.

Ellen 08-12-2006, 12:12 AM JOSIAN: Rosey is right. You still have time! Take one day at a time, and don't forget that EXERCISE is the ticket! Eat right, exercise and you can lose the weight in the months you have left before the wedding.
ROSEY: That is awesome that you are teaching your granddaughter to cook! What a great time that must be! I hope Kaeleb wants to hang with me in the kitchen....

Josian 08-14-2006, 01:31 PM Hi all.
Have some good news... with the help of a corset, I am able to zip up my dress and still be able to breathe, so that is a good thing. :) I will still follow my plan and continue to go to Curves and do Pilates, but at least I won't be so stressed about it now...!
akrosey49 08-14-2006, 02:52 PM WHOOO HOOOOOOOO Josian :carrot: :carrot: :carrot: Im so happy for u..bet u feel a lot better(((((((( ))))))))) rosey
CharZ 08-14-2006, 04:29 PM Great Josian!!!! Doing real good. AKrosey 49, I know what you mean. I've been the dietian & record keeper for my husband for a year now. It's so nice to be able to go out or order out, occasionally. Yesterday, his sis & hubby took us to dinner (Mexican, one of our favs) for his birthday (6/28).
He finally, got below 204/204.5lbs (203). Still got aways to go, but he has now lost 150lbs. since last July 9th. His BS avgs 88-100 at night & his doc is really pleased. Stress of any kind (even happy) can cause your BS to rise. And, yes drowsiness (tiredness) is one of the sympthoms of High Blood Sugar.
Everybody, please talk to your doctors about taking cinnamon & chromiun.
You have to be really careful with chromiun because it will lower your blood sugar. My husband's been on 200mg for a year now, along with 4,000mg of cinnamon. He's been off all prescription diabetic meds since April 8, 2006.
If we are going to eat out, he takes an extra 1,000 mg of cinnamon.
Don't give up, ladies, you are all doing good. It can be done. God Bless all of you!!!! Also, I found a book 8 mths ago, at my local Rite-Aid drugstore, it has been a VERY BIG HELP. Especially, for eating out. This lady breaks
down just about everything imaginable. It's 911 pages, but we can check
just about anything hubby wants to eat for cals, carbs, fats, sodium.
It's "The Complete Book of Food Counts" by Corinne T. Netzer. The publisher is Dell. I purchased a bunch of books on & for Diabetics last year & this is one of my best purchases. Hope that's ok to say.
creations 08-15-2006, 11:21 AM Sorry I haven't been posting. I've had a serve case of diverticulitus for the last five days. Ended up in the ER Sunday nite.
Good thing is I've losted five pounds.
Going to try to start eating today.

Another day on the run. Got to work, go give the florist money, check on tux rentals, work the other job... boy, do I look forward to Sundays (only day off right now!)
BG's doing great, considering everything that I'm doing. I'm staying off the carbs, and I know that helps. I eat them in the morning so they burn off throughout the day and that helps....

Ellen 08-19-2006, 09:44 AM Hey everyone! Sorry I have been MIA the last few days. I have been busy with the new grandbaby, and we had a big event at church last night that I was in charge of.
ROSEY, like you I have not been sleeping too well. My back bothers me in the mornings, but once I am up and moving it seems to limber up. I hope you are walking, even just a little. It is SO good for you, your sugar levels, your fitness, it helps weight loss. Just take baby steps...five minutes...then ten...until you can walk 30 or more. Since you have an artistic eye, you can describe the beautiful Alaska scenery to me that you see. And I will be jealous! :)
JOSIAN: Wow..I am so excited for you! Its all coming together, and will be here before you know it! Your engagement picture was really nice! Your betrothed has nice hair! Reminded me of my son in law, when he and my daughter first started dating. :) I love weddings...I am the wedding coordinator for our church, so I am really enjoying hearing about your plans!
JEANNE: I am the one on Byetta. I thought my pen was bad, but I think I was the one who was bad. I had not been walking, but only doing water aerobics, and I guess it was not strenuous enough to get the bg down as well. My morning bg was 87... so I am pretty pleased. It was creeping up to 120...and I was getting depressed about it! I want my next A1c to be really good. I am not losing as well as you. Do you mind posting a menu for me to compare? I eat cereal for breakfast, a half a sandwich for lunch, maybe have a snack of a handful of nuts, then eat some kind of a meat and veggies for dinner. I might have a small potato for dinner, or some kind of a starch, as well. I started out losing pretty well, then the weight loss just stopped.
CREATIONS: Youch! I hope you are feeling a lot better now. That is not a very nice way to lose weight! What kind of a diet do you need to follow for that?
I need to go get some breakfast here... :grouphug: I hope you all have a great day and wonderful weekend!
Oh, and here is a new picture of my grandson! (if I posted one before, please forgive me, I am kind of spacey lately! :) )
Josian 08-21-2006, 03:48 PM Hi all!
Feeling lousy today...First day I've caught an icky for over a year, so I guess that's got to be pretty good. Slept for 15 hours, decided to take the day to relax instead of do my across state drive. Hopefully I will be better tomorrow.
 to all!
Ellen 08-22-2006, 10:41 AM Good morning! I got the day off to a good start by getting my walk in. Once I am out there, I am amazed at how easy it is, but it sometimes takes some mental games to get myself dressed, shoes on, and out the door!
I started a new Byetta pen yesterday, and it seems to be working better than the last one. The appetite suppressant properties of it were non existent last pen...this one seems to be working. Last night, I just did not want to eat dinner, so I had a few beans and a slice or two of fresh tomato out of the garden, and a few chips with cheese sauce, but the main dish just did not appeal to me (chicken enchilada casserole) so I passed it up. We ate way too late last night as well. I just could not get my act together in the kitchen! Today, I am starting dinner at 3!
JOSIAN: I hope you are feeling better! When is the wedding? (hmm, maybe I ought to do the math from your ticker! )
ROSEY: Where are you? I hope all is well...
I will check back later!
akrosey49 08-22-2006, 04:22 PM Morning everyone.. sry i was missing..i have been sick..a flu bug or something..have spent more time in the bathrm than any where else:?: am somewhat better today..just feel washed out.. my sl was up to 144 yesterday but its back to 105 this am..managed some tea and toast this am..its still raining here and cold would be nice to see some sun..hope u all have agreat day.. rosey
rosettastone 08-22-2006, 04:48 PM Hi, all. I've been reading but have been too depressed to post. Still depressed. I've let all the tension and worry get to me and have put on about ten lbs. I keep trying to put the brakes on it but haven't been successful so far. The apartment problems are calmed down but it still isn't a nice situation. Plus a little tension on the job from new court rules requiring us (meaning me!) to file documents on line, which is tricky and stressful. Ah, the joys of computers! Anyway, that's why I haven't felt much like posting.
Rosey - sorry about you're being sick. You need a nice bowl of chicken soup. Hopefully, the sun will show up one of these days.
Monet, congratulations on your new grandbaby.
Josian 08-22-2006, 06:37 PM Monet: 11/11/06 :)
My throat is even worse today. I have a doc's appointment this afternoon because I can barely swallow.. I sure do hope it's not strep!
Ellen 08-22-2006, 09:33 PM ROSEY: I am so sorry you have been sick! Feel better!
ROSETTA: Sounds like work is stressful...but remind yourself that stress eating doesn't make you feel better! Come vent here if you like. We don't mind.
JOSIAN: I hope it is not strep too! A lady on the Sugarbusters forum has a son who has strep, so I guess it is going around. Take care of yourself!
Josian 08-23-2006, 03:20 PM Phew...
Not strep, or anything else they can pinpoint. I have a lymph node in my throat the size of a golf ball, which makes it hard to swallow or really do much of anything else... they just told me to keep an eye on it and if I'm not better in a couple of days to call them back and they'll run some other tests...
I am feeling better today. I'm up and moving around, getting my work done, so that's a plus :)
akrosey49 08-23-2006, 03:24 PM Morning everyone..well i think i will live..am finally feeling like my old self.. i lost 4 1/2 #'s but it was all water and i dont like to loose like that..my sl was 110 this am.. i was awake at 11:30 pm last nite and very hungry so had a cup of applesauce and afew crackers..my appetite is back..its still raining here.. am very tired of the rain this was the summer that never was :?: josian sure hope u dont have strep..that painful.. get better soon..rosetta  am so glad to see u post..i have missed you.. sry for your stress try hitting a pillow and yelling at whom ever and not get the munchies..hard to do i know as im a stress eater too..and i did have chicken stew last nite does that count;) anyways dont be a stranger..monet thanks for the hug i needed it but am all better now..my dh has helped me catch up on the house work while i was sick(he does have his moments:) )all i need to do today is load the dishwasher.. plan on working on my card order.. hello to all who are absent..have great day everyone (((((((( ))))))))) rosey
cinderellawanttobe 08-23-2006, 04:03 PM i've never chatted before. don;t know if i'm doing it right
cinderellawanttobe 08-23-2006, 04:09 PM i would like to talk to someone. i just started nutrisystem.i have so much to lose.it's overwhelming
Ellen 08-23-2006, 04:39 PM Hi Cinderella! :welcome3: Are you a diabetic? Tell us about yourself. Don't be overwhelmed! A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step...just as a weight loss journey starts with small steps too. Set small goals for yourself, and celebrate them (in NON food ways! :) ). For instance, you might set 10 pound mini goals. When you reach one, you can do something nice for yourself. If it were me, I might go out and buy a ball of yarn, or a new set of knitting needles, or maybe some smallish art supply I have been wanting. I see you are in Missouri. My brother lives in Fulton. Do you know where that is?
hefty1 08-24-2006, 10:11 AM Hi everyone alls well here. my bs are up and down again. meowee where you?did the tides come and flood you out? i'll be done my coarse next week.
 :) glen
Josian 08-24-2006, 02:34 PM Hi all!
Glen, good to see our rooster stopped in! :) I miss Meowee too. :(
Scale is holding steady at 180, so I guess that's a good thing. Once I hit my Labor Day goal, next goal is 170 for the wedding.... I CAN DO THIS!

Jeanne88 08-25-2006, 03:07 AM Hey you all,,,wow,,talk about this site driving me nuts,,ha,,I have tried to post at least 5 times in the last few days,,,even got as far as submit and just like that gone,,,gurrrrrrrr,,,can make a person crazy,,ha:devil:
Monet ,,I sure hope this post gets tho,,about the new pen,,,I believe like you that some are stronger than others,,,I am sure it has something to do with how it was handled before we get it,,,this last 10 pen really cut my eating way more than the one before,,,like almost made me have NO cravings at all for anything,,,my diet is a lot of salad,,meat,,chicken,,COTTAGE CHEESE,,,some fruit,,,but with the byetta I have to stay away from a lot of carbs that I could eat before,,,?,,,not sure why,,,when I take my shot at work say at 6,,,I have to make myself eat or I wouldn't,,,so the cottage cheese works best for me,,,I also eat nuts,,all kinds,,,,I bet you will start to lose again now with this new pen,,,keep me posted,,,and any hints you have to,,,this byetta is new to most all of us,,this is no kidding I am the only one in my whole county on byetta,,now that is pretty sad,,,the doctors here hadn't even heard of it,,,I drive to a different county to a internal dr,,,that I have been going to for years and fineally got my insurance to pay for,,,,small towns are wonderful,,,except for health care,,,so I make the 3plus hour drive,,,anyway so sorry it took so long to answer your post,,,does anyone else have a hard time getting on and posting here ?,,,,:?:
Well going to try to submit this,,,holding my breath,,ha,,,hi to everyone else out there,,,hope all of you I read that are sick are better,,,
I get a new pen in a few days ,,,I'll let you know if I can tell a difference,,,seems like the end of this one is fading,,,
Later ,,,have a great evening,,,Jeanne :carrot:
Ellen 08-25-2006, 10:48 AM Good morning! The scale was kind this morning and I am down four pounds since Monday! I was so excited! I think the new Byetta pen, along with cutting out wheat, has really helped. I increased my walking too... so many variables, but I will just keep on doing what I am doing, and hope for good results. :)
JEANNE: If you are having problems with the board, either post in the Help Forum, or PM Suzanne and ask her if she has any suggestions. She might be able to help you. I know there is something you can do to clear old cookies, or something that helps that kind of problem. I am cutting out more carbs now..and have finally seen a loss after a few weeks of nothing. I think I am wheat sensitive, and when I eat cereal for breakfast, my glucose levels are good, but my weight just will not budge! I am making a smoothie with kefir, milk and whey protein and it holds me until lunch, or a snack if I feel like one. If I have time, I might have two eggs and a piece of whole wheat toast, but I really do think wheat is something my system would cheerfully do without. It would be so hard to deal with having to drive 3 hours to the doctor! I thought 45 was bad enough! My biggest complaint right now is that the only endo near me on my plan is the one I am going to, and they have like five doctors in their practice. I just don't like the huge, busy McMedicine feel... I wish I could find a quiet Internal Medicine doctor to go to....My last doctor was like that, but his office was in constant disarray and turmoil. He never called back...but he had a wonderful bedside manner, and was somewhat progressive. Now he is off my insurance, but he also seems to be into the pill pushing more than he ever was before. I tend more towards natural stuff if possible.
ROSEY: I always spend too much in craft stores too! :o
JOSIAN: I am glad you are feeling better! You can reach that goal! What diet plan are you following? I recently stopped eating wheat, and it helped me to get losing again. Sometimes, making a change helps shake things up a bit!
Josian 08-25-2006, 11:24 AM Amen to that sisters!
I too am awaiting an appointment with a new endo. My doc in Reno, I love him to death, but he's so busy that you have to make appointments two months out and then you only get to see him for a couple of minutes. The last several times in his office I've been unhappy... Hence, McMedicine!
Monet, I follow Suzanne Somers program, "Somersizing" food combining. Basically, I eat carbs alone, usually in the morning, then proteins/fats/veggies the rest of the day. No sugar, all whole grains. I've been on it for a year (with small lapses here and there.) It's the only program I've found that I can stick to most of the time, even while eating out. My fiance has jumped on the bandwagon of whole grains too... We went shopping last night and could not find a bread without corn syrup in it... They even changed my Orowheat 100% whole wheat bread. :( The second ingredient is now corn syrup, it used to have only honey towards the end of the list! :(
Okay, I'll jump off my soapbox now. Have a good weekend all. I'm feeling much better, but not enough up to snuff to exercise yet. :(
 Hugs,

Ellen 08-28-2006, 10:59 AM Good morning! It is official weigh in day on the Sugarbusters forum, and I was down from last week four pounds, but I only will count it as two since I had gained two before switching to my new Byetta pen. I was pleased. I hope the loss continues.
I just ate breakfast...a protein smoothie and some steel cut oatmeal. I am avoiding wheat and it seems to be helping. I already got my two mile walk in this morning, so its been a good morning so far.
I hope all is well with each of you. I will check in later!
JEANNE: Do you live near forest fires? You mentioned smoke... I hope everything is ok around you.
Josian 08-28-2006, 12:29 PM Morning all!
Another week and another pound gone! Whew-hoo! I hope I can keep up my losing streak through the wedding! I got a bit stressed out this weekend, as it looks like my nephew won't be here to be my ringbearer. His mom moved him to Oklahoma in June and isn't willing to take him out of school, even for a day. So that's a maid of honor, a bridesmaid, and now probably my ringbearer that will be missing on my important day.
Other than that, the invitations are almost complete (they are going out next Tuesday) and things are coming together!
I had a small splinter on the ball of my foot yesterday, think I got it but I'm going to watch it closely for awhile... Just what I need is an ulcer or something worse! Can't go to Curves this morning because of it, but i sure can do some Pilates floor work.
 Hugs to all!
Jeanne88 08-28-2006, 04:00 PM Howdy all and good afternoon almost here,,,:)
Monet ,,,seems like the whole state of washington is on fire now,,none right here so far and all are praying we will be skipped this year,,but all around us like 2 hours away are firers ,,so the smoke blows here and sure makes it ruff,,today is hazy but you can smell it in the air,,:flame: congrats on your wt loss also,,,:carrot: :carrot: am so glad that this pen is working for you,,I also think that the wt loss with the byetta comes and goes,,,and I think it is the pen,,,some are just better,,I know people who disagree but thats what I have found,,,I pick up a new one today and am hoping it will be as good as the last one,,the one before I stopped lossing altogether,,,then started to lose again with the last one,,,keep me posted on how you are doing,,it is so cool to be able to talk with someone else about the byetta and hear what it is doing for them,,,:) :bravo:
My bs was 141 this morning and I just took it a few minutes ago and it was down to 91,,I ate a late night snack that was carbs and it does it everytime,,but thats ok I feel pretty good today,,,:D
Hope everyone else is doing well,,,:goodvibes to all and have a great day,,,Jeanne :genie:
akrosey49 08-28-2006, 06:57 PM Hi everyone.. another beautiful day here the suns out and we are so glad its not raining..my sl was 103 this am.. i have fasting blood work done on thursday and a dr appt(checkup and meds refilled) next thursday..sure hope the numbers are good..i know my weight is about the same tho :?:..im trying harder to eat less carbs..i had a reallt quiet weekend.. my dd and i tried a new bingo place sat night.. we had fun but didnt win anything..monet congrats on the loss:carrot: ..Josian congrats to u too:carrot: on your loss..sry your wedding party is going to be smaller consider it their loss..hope your foot gets better..hi jeanne..hope the smoke clears.. i wonder why the byetta is so inconsistent from one perscription to another..arnt the phamaceutical companies suppose to keep a certain standard where drugs are concerned ?? you would think they would be the same each time..i mentioned byetta to my dr months ago and she didnt know about it:?: am glad it works for you guys tho..anyways have agreat evening to all who posted and those who are absent((((((((hugs))))))) rosey
Ellen 08-29-2006, 09:08 AM Good morning! I need to get dressed and head out for my walk in a bit...but I am procrastinating. I slept ok, but I am just stiff and sore today. :(
ROSEY: The problem with the byetta is that it has to be kept at a cool temperature or it will lose its potency. It can be left out some, but if the warehouses that carry it handle it poorly, it can lose some of its potency before it gets into the hands of the consumer. If tested at the site it is made it, it would have been fine. The last pen I had kept my glucose levels down, it just did not give me the appetite suppression, and weight loss the previous pen had. I hope your doctor eventually hears about it and maybe will let you try it. It does amazing things for my weight loss, and energy levels. There is some evidence that it reverses damage to the pancreatic cells as well.
JEANNE: I have a friend from Washington. She is considering moving back...I think she is from near Bellingham. I hope the fires stop soon. It must be hard to have that acrid smell in the air all the time. I hope your new byetta pen is good. I think I ought to check the temp of my fridge shelf where I store it...just to make sure. This pen I have now is better than last month, but not as good as the first one. I am wondering if I should be moved up to the 10pen.
JOSIAN: :cb: Yay on that pound! Take care of your foot! I hate splinters! I always wear shoes now. I do have some funky ones called Vibram Five Fingers. They look like toe socks, but have a Vibram sole. I tend to draw comments whereever I go in them! I am sorry about the ringbearer. The most important folks will be there...you and him....
Jeanne88 08-30-2006, 01:36 PM Hi all was MIA for a day or so,,,my phone lines got moisture in them from the swamp cooler and had to dry out before I could get on line,,,:?:
Monet,,you are so right about the pen and how it works,,,makes me crazy but I believe like you it is how it is handled,,,I thought you were on a 10 pen,,the 5 stopped working for me after 2 months,,this one I got yesterday is the 3rd 10 for me and that is when I started to lose again,,when I went up to the 10,,,might be worth checking into,,,hope this one does good for you,,:carrot:
Hi Rosey,,,I got your rain,,ha,,oh my God we can use it ,,,a cold front came in last night and it feels so good,,,and with all the fires the rain is a blessing,,,and yes most of us feel like crap breathing all that smoke,,,
Hi to you Josian,,,congrats on the wt loss,,,we try so hard so when that scale moves,,,wow,,,couldn't make you feel better,,,:carrot:
Anyone else I missed hi to you and havea fabulous day,,,I am off to work,,later,,Jeanne
