View Full Version : Almost There -- July

Yes, we're "almost there"!! So close yet, so far, it seems on some days!! It's annoying but yet we keep on movin' on, we must!! So what keeps us motivated? Somedays I must admit, I really don't know anymore. I want to be healthy, I want to vainly look good ...
This month I must get down to the low 140's, I've been on this plateau way too long, a year :faint:... with lots of exercise and super clean eating I'm going to do it... What's on eveyone's agenda? What will you do differently this month?

Hello hello hello!
I've been away on a course for 2 days, so that's knocked me off track a bit (ok a lot) but I'm not stressing over it. I know what to do, I can do it, I will do it!!! I'm staying away from the scales and only weighing every week - that's my plan! I don't even want to see the damage I've done with my carb frenzy - I think it's best not knowing and just ploughing on with what I know works. It's so hot here that exercise outdoors is getting difficult, and kickboxing training is getting dangerous - slipping on sweaty floors :o I hope the end of this heatwave is in sight!
Goal for this month - to get below 168 (I know it says 162 in my profiley thing... That's what I'm really trying to get back too  ) and to properly start - and commit to - Half Marathon training :faint: I might have to start using the treadmill at the gym where I kickbox, it seems outdoor running is much more difficult to fit in somehow!
I've got a 5K race on Sunday, so that will be fun. I hope the forecast is nice for it!
Keep on keepin on! Remember if you don't think you can do it, just fake it

Thanks Ilene for starting us a new thread.
After weeks of staying around 132-133 and having the scales move in quarter pound increments up and down until I was sick and desperate, I have managed to slip down to 130!! All I did was tighten up on the eating and kept the exercise up. When I got discouraged I would find that "what's the use" excuse and was eating a few bad things. Well, after cutting that out and having a good talk with myself the scale has began to move again - yahoo! We're on vacation next week but we will be eating in a good bit with good food and I will continue my exercise, so I'm hoping that it will feel like home while being away. I just don't want to find those hard worked pounds again!! Vacation should not bring us complacency, should it?

My agenda for July: keep on track for the 10 days of my vacation (starting tomorrow) and try, try, try not to drink too much wine! I know that it is the main factor in my diet that makes me not lose the weight as quick as I could, so I need to be strong. I eat very well--hardly ever give into sweets (except for last night, but it didn't kill my calories for the day!). I'm really enjoying more whole foods, those super foods!
I'm one of those people who HAS to weigh in every day, otherwise the weight creeps on without my knowing it. I don't get discouraged when it fluctuates daily, because I know it does. It just makes me try harder that day! I'll be on vacation without a scale, so this will be a challenge! Hopefully I'll be able to fit in more exercise during the vacation.
I have a doctor's appointment the day after I return, and I hope that I'll be able to walk in and show that I've lost 30 pounds!!! He's been after me for years to lose at least 10, so I've at least accomplished that!

Alison -- I  wine too ... I love to have a glass before bed, and I know that's not a good thing because when I do have that glass then I am sometimes hungry for something afterwards or while I am drinking... I had started to have 10 almonds with my wine but 10 turned into too many and again my weight started going up! OYE we can't win :tantrum:
Jen -- :coach: WHAT THE HECK IS THE CAKE DOING IN THE HOUSE IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?! Get DB to hide it or not take it in at all...
Susan -- :cp: for the good eating day!! It's a start, baby steps!!
softballmom -- Keep your health mentality during your vacations and you'll do fine, :cheer: "We know you can, we know you can" :cheer:
No, the saying should read : "We know we ALL can, we know we ALL can"
So let's get out there and DO IT!!
On that note, I am off to the gym for some back/bicep work, toodles

I like wine. Who's pouring?
I'm doing not bad today. I've been up a long time and nibbled some melba toast at work and I'm tired now. But my cals are OK.
I think I'll do a light upper body this evening.
Tomorrow, I've been invited to do preps for colonoscopes ... hmmm ... I guess it's a pay cheque. And I get to wear highly attractive greens! Usually the RPN's who do that get off at about 1 pm, so maybe I can get some new salad stuff and do a good lower body in the afternoon.
The boys (19&24) are marinading chicken breasts for supper. I think I'll lay down for a bit and make salad and reheat brown rice when DH gets home.
Sounds like a bit of a plan. Things are looking up.
Thanks for all the encouragement you bring to me gals!

Okay, I need to make a goal. I am going on vacation on July 22-28 and so ... until then, no beer or cokes. You have no idea how difficult this will be!!!
In case you haven't noticed, Ilene and I are going to be the mods in this area. If you need a title changed, a thread made sticky, just whatever -- let either one of us know.
I look forward to getting to know you all and losing these few remaining pesky pounds!

 Susan and I have a little clean eating pact going - A week of clean eating! I tripped up a little bit last night, I'm calling it a high zig in my zig zags :o I didn't eat terribly awful, just a bit more than I should've done. *sigh*
I did resist those cakes, they were in the kitchen at work!! We had a meeting, then when I went ot the kitchen after the meeting all the custard ones had gone, and I don't really like any others, so it made it a lot easier for me to resist the manky ones! It wasn't until I got home early, and got bored waiting for DF to come home very late that I got all depressed and snacky
Today is a new day, I've bought 2 bags of apples and a pound of strawberries - I spent £6!!!! That's $12, on 3 boxes of fruit :faint: I'm worth it though ;) I'm off double kickboxing tonight, then tomorrow my friend is coming to stay for shopping. I'm not feeling particularly strong about being able to eat healthily, she has BIG food issues, I'm going to do my best though. For the sake of my sanity, our little week pact and the sake of my figure I will try my hardest!

Hello ladies,
Did someone say wine? :hat: I could use a nice big glass right about now if you are sharing! OOPS...it's only 11:30....must wait 'til noon! (actually I'm at work so must wait 'til weekend :stress:) Stressful day today and stressful week but I'm still hanging in there even if it's only by a thread.
I need to get back in the "zone" and get my eating back on track. My scale is being kind but I know I've been slacking off. The gym has become a distant memory and I need to change that as well. I can actually see a difference in only a couple of weeks of not going.
This weekend I will be heading upstate to my "lakehouse" and am hoping that I can get in at least a couple of miles of swimming. I haven't been in the water yet this year and I miss it sooooooo much. Swimming is my favorite exercise because it doesn't seem like exercise at all. It is so relaxing to me to be out in the middle of the lake, alone with my thoughts and feeling the sun on my back. Oh....can't it be Friday yet????? :dizzy:

I feel really good about my eating this week and I feel like I'm back in control. I will get to goal this time. No more food binges.
daisi~~Have fun at your lake house. Only one more day to Friday.
2frus~~Good for you for resisting those cakes!

I had my oops on the way home from work. I was in a totally different unit today and had no idea how to sip water without my med cart to keep it on :) Then I usually am smart enough to have a bottle of water in the car but no today it was a caramel aero bar and corn chips!
I'll straighten up now. I'm on my second bottle of water since I got home and the boys are making a nice dinner.

I'm so glad to see a new thread - it was taking so long to load the old one and I didn't feel like I had posted enough to have the right to start a new one...
I'm now stuck at 125.4 which is indeed better than 126.2 but not by that much. I was so proud of myself last Friday, I had been at the gym every day and thought, I really should take a day off. One turned into two, three, four...arggggghhh. What's wrong with me? I think I'm going to have to start going to the gym to pose :p on what should be my off day just to keep in the habit. Now I have two days down, the rest of my life to go. I always feel better (even if only the lack of guilt) when I go, so why do I ever not????
I have decided that my whole issue is that I seem to either live like a hermit, not seeing anyone or going anywhere and lose weight quickly (dare I say, easily?); OR enjoy my friends, my life etc and constantly watch my weight go up. I'm struggling to find a balance where my weight goes SLOWLY down (i.e. see above where I'm at 126.2 for two weeks, then 125.4 for two weeks) or at least maintain while still living the life that I want to.
Does anyone have a couch I can lie on for more self analysis?:dizzy:

If I can be "clean" for today Suse, so can you ;)
Not got any exercise planned today. Had to skip my morning run since DF woke me up at midnight by rolling home and trying to wash up  So I woke with a splitting headache. :headache: and decided to have another 40 mins in bed.
We can do this, we CAN WE CAN! Just remember, fuel your bodies with jet fuel (lean proteins, veggies, wholegrains), not crude oil (pizza, doughnuts, HoHos, WINE, chips) ;)

JuliaTN: I totally hear ya and understand with the very sloooowwww movement of the scale. I tend to get discouraged when I don't see the movement after doing everything right, so I sabotage myself with the "what's the use" mantra. Fortunately, my dh or kids will ask "do you really want that?" That at least makes me think out my choice for the moment.

Ooooo I have hit a speed bump today. I knew there was a posibility that I would get sent home from work after 4 hours and I had plans! Walking, weights, housework. So I allowed myself a lovely cookie (or two) brought in by an appreciative patient and some gummies. I got busying around and all of a sudden the bottom dropped out.
I haven't had a blood sugar drop in eons! It feels so weird. I wobbled down to the kitchen and scarfed some protein. Now I think I'll go lay down. Yucky!
I'll get back at my mega plans a little later, I think.
Lesson gals .... avoid those fast carbs and eat good food every couple of hours!

Last night, mega upset. Didn't eat chocolate :D

Glad to be back and have you guys here for accountability.
I enjoyed my vacation (maybe a little too much). It looks like I gained back up to the 132-133 range; I jumped on the scales as soon as I got home :o
I had a few beers and margaritas while at the beach, and then last night we hit a seafood buffet that had too much fried and not enough grilled etc. :(
I'm thinking it's mostly water weight, but I'm saddened by the increase anyway, especially since it has been taking so much longer to remove these last pounds now. I did do my running (C25K) every other morning and walked on the other mornings for the most part.
Now that vacation is over, life can get back to my new normal :carrot:
I think I'm going to start the weight training on my alternate days of running. I still have about 20 pounds left, but I want to firm up as I lose these last "few" to get to goal. Also, time to get back to my clean eating that I had finally conquered prior to taking a week off. I have to say that eating pizza, fried seafood, even ice cream left me feeling gross instead of good. I wanna feel good (and healthy), :coach: so back to it!

Hey there everyone! I haven't posted much this summer... I've just been real busy and everything. I still have these last few pounds to take off... they just won't go away no matter what I do. Right now I'm feeling even worse because I'm bloaty and PMS-ing. Ugh. Hate it. I've been eating pretty well, although last night I lost it and had a big bowl of corn flakes and a little ice cream, but we all slip up sometimes, especially during PMS. I really want to reach my goal before my pageant on July 29th. 8 lbs in two weeks isn't very reasonable, though. I hope after the bloat is gone that I might see that I've made even a little bit of progress. Still, I'm very disappointed. I was steadily losing weight until this June and now I'm completely stalled and no where near where I wanted to be.
Sigh... hope everyone else is having better luck than I am. <3

I've got a lot of catching up to do! It will have to wait, though. We are still at the beach. I've not even tried to watch what I'm eating. But, we have been very, very active and I don't think much damage has been done. Other than not being any closer to losing weight, of course. We are heading home tomorrow and I'll be giving 110%! Funny how a week or so of reckless abandon leaves you craving your old, healthier routines.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying on track!

Weighed this morning but not taking it too seriously - got majorly dehydrated last night on the coach, so probably that and all the bloomin bacon I had  Bacon for breakfast, chicken and bacon sandwich for lunch, and er... chicken and bacon sandwich for tea! I did have lots of fruit and stuff too! :lol3:

Hi girls....remember me? I have been so "out of the zone" so to speak for the past month that I am ashamed to show my face here! OK, so that's a bit exagerated but I have really not been able to get my head around the healthy eating/working out thing lately. I did manage to weigh in at Weight Watchers on Tuesday and I am still hovering around 134 which is surprising with all the stuff I've been eating. I was supposed to go to the gym twice this week and found good excuses (?) to avoid it. I haven't gone totally off the wagon but I am teetering on the brink!

Thanks for the kick girls! I'm going to try to clean up the sloppy spots in my routine. It's hard with the summer because I work a full time job and also work at a restaurant 2 nights during the week. On Friday nights I pack my bags & dogs and head up to the lake until Sunday night. This leaves me Tuesday and Wednesday evenings free (or as free as I can be after doing the yardwork, laundry, shopping and trying to clean the house).
I just got word from my gym that they are going to be opening at 6:30 am on 2 mornings so maybe that is my answer. I always did best when I got my exercise out of the way in the morning. It always started my day on a positive note and cleared my head for the events of the day. Now if I can only drag my tired *** out of bed at 6 instead of snoozing until 7, I'll be OK.
Have a great weekend everybody!

Morning workouts can be nice although I often feel so tired afterwards that I take an afternoon cat nap @_@ Still, it is nice having a 24 hour gym here. I love it. I can go at 2 AM if I wanted to!! ...not that I really want to, though.
And more good news... I am down a pound as of this morning!! Whoo!!! I better be after how hard I've been working. I've been working my butt off - literally. Squats, gradual inclines on the treadmill, stairstepper, lunges... I have to get my big bootay into shape so I don't giggle too much next week. The swimsuit part of pageants doesn't bother me much because I'm a lifeguard so people see me in my swimsuit all the time, but it is my weak point so I've got to work hard if I want to win the crown!!

2F -- Good for you for clean eating
Today was a fairly clean eating day but I had about 3 glasses of wine with supper so yet again my day is higher calories than I would like...

I'm SO excited about weigh-in day! I'm down 3.5lbs since last Weds already! :sssh:  which I think is glycogen from my muscles and water, and fat - my caliper readings are down :D :D :D I haven't compromised any strength in the gym, in fact I lifted rather heavy today :D
Ok I'm going to stop gloating! ;)
Where's Lucky? She needs some of my :dust: to rub off on her, perhaps?

Get your wheelbarrows out gals! My legs and tri's feel like I've had an excellent workout. And I've got more concrete chunks to move.
Yesterday I was up to my eyeballs in food. I went to get my 20 lbs box of beans and the lady gave me about 30 lbs of beets (free). I just nicely got started when the lady from our corner store called to say my frozen fruit was in and that she had no room to keep it. I shoved those pails in the freezer and will deal with them today. I did, however, get the beans and beets done. I was standing in the kitchen pretty much from noon until after nine last evening.
I have no way of quantifying the beans or beets I ate as I went along :) Nor how much energy that took. I slept well.
Not knowing that the frozen fruit was coming, I bought cheap seasonal fruit at the grocers in the morning. So I had lots of good eats and (interestingly enough) I think I rounded up to about 1500 cals.
I'm feeling pretty accomplished this morning.
I have more outside work to do today. I think our risk of showers is pretty high. I should maybe get out there this morning.

I've been out of touch for the last couple of weeks...went on a business trip to the California Central Coast.
I was supposed to come back on Monday but we didn't have everything done so we tried to change the flight to Tues/Wed but all were booked til Friday. The whole thing ended up taking til Friday anyway so that worked out OK but I was not looking forward to getting on the scale when I got home. Surprise, surprise, I lost 2#'s while I was gone, woohoo, yay me! And that was with a day of wine tasting (BTW, the most fun ever).
Now the challenge is to get back in the gym habit. I actually put my gym clothes on yesterday, got in the car, drove to the gym, started driving around looking for a parking place, and then realized I was still wearing my flip flops. Note to self: must not day dream about dreamy new boyfriend while getting ready to go to the gym.
Good to hear that everyone is at least close to being on track...

 @ Julia ;)
I realised something last night. I had a WHOLE WEEK of clean eating last week. And I LOST 3LBS! I think there's a correlation... :chin:
Today I am upping my carbs slightly, then tomorrow I am back on the healthy wagon with veggies at every meal etc etc

Good for you 2Frus! Yes, I believe there just might be some correlation.
I've lost a total of 3 pounds in one month, but the going is so slooow that I'm feeling a little down today. This month did include a vacation week where I was not so good and gained about half pound. When I look at my journal I've done pretty well except for my percentages! I will work on this through the next upcoming weeks!

3 lbs in one month is good! We're not very big any more and can't expect the big drops. Three pounds of fat takes up a lot of space on a little person like you Softballmom! You're doin' good ... very good!

I am NOT ready for Fall even if it is HHH here too!!! I'd love to live in summer all year except in December for Christmas... Maybe when I retire I will be one of those folks who goes down south for the colder months... The ONLY think I don't like about summer is that I can't run outside the heat makes me sick...
Things are good these days, food is in control and exercise is good...

If we had a max temp limit, I'd be fine. I can do almost anything up to about 32 if there's even the slightest breeze.

I'm back! My weekend was super-fab! I'll be blogging all about it later on this morning, so feel free to nosy!
Food was pretty terrible, but I didn't binge like I usually do when faced with junk, junk or junk!!! I feel like I didn't eat too badly, even if I did get a (small) Rolo milkshake at Mac D's!!! Although that was lunch!
The weather has really cooled - I am wearing a HUGE sweatshirt that I had to borrow, I was going to give it back today, but I'm too cold!

I usually pop in on weekends but this one was a doozy. I worked, my neice got married, we had another family thing ... No time for recreational surfing :)
But today .... I'm home alone in the quiet .... ahhhhh!
I really need to chill out and make repairs from the weekend. To my head, my body, my house .... mount laundry:)

I'm not posting it until my official weigh in day on Wednesday, but it looks like I may have removed another pound.
This weekend was an out of town softball tourney, so we had to eat out for all meals. I watched my selections and portions but my calories were about 400 more per day. BUT the scales show a one pound decrease, go figure. Maybe I do need to get my calories up around 1500 to help move the blasted scale.

OK...time to stop being a slug...I have finally found the motivation to get back on track with my eating and exercise!
I had the most horrible weekend...I was surrounded by a bunch of young, hardbodied women in bikinis which made me feel horrible about myself to begin with. To top it off, I was talking with a "friend" who was telling me I was a party pooper. I told him I was a "shell of my former self", and he corrected me to say that I was not the "shell" but the "meat" of my former self. He tried to fix it by back pedaling and saying that I had lost weight since last year but that didn't do anything to make me feel better.
I spent yesterday absolutely hating myself (and him) and now I am so disgusted that I am considering cancelling a date with someone who told me how good I looked 3 weeks ago. I've only put on a pound or two since then, but it feels like 20 and I am afraid he will notice and be turned off!
I don't know why I'm ranting...I've let myself slide and it's my own fault but maybe if I put it in writing I will get my *** moving. I stocked the fridge with high fiber, low fat foods for the week. I didn't get up early enough to work out today but I did my crunches and push ups. Tomorrow is a gym day for sure!
Hope you are all feeling better than I am right now! I am off to eat my turkey on light bread...

Daisy  I can't believe how rude/impolite/immature some people can be  .... You look great and now let's get on the wagon again and start "feeling" great about our accomplishments...
Way to go softballmom for watching your portions in difficult situations, that's half the battle...
I didn't do well and the scale showed a + this morning :tantrum: ... It's not going to be an easy week either DH is on vacation and we have a wedding on the weekend....OY!!
