This is the first Challenenge I have ever created, but I needed something that wasn't focused on me getting on the scale, that had a reasonable deadline and that seemed reachable. In 4 months I hope to walk 100 miles. I picked 120 days to build in some flexibilty.
I'll post my miles here.
Anyone is welcome to join me.:carrot:

This is really motivating me. I went to lunch (I was good - I went to Subway and had a Turkey sandwich, with Baked Lays and a coke (as my treat). I am on WW and I am well within my points for the day. After I got back, I went for a quick walk - 1.2 miles. I'm on my way.
2 miles to date.

I would love to join this challenge as well, I have just recently(last week) re-joined TOPS and have 40 pounds to lose. yesterday I bought a pedometer and "blast away the pounds" walking dvd. My husband and I walk our puppy at a pretty brisk walk about 2.5-3 miles , several times a week, but I was wondering something.I know that walking intentionally(that sounded stupid) and walking around the house, work etc are at 2 different paces....I hvae vowed to wear this pedometer all the time...do you think that counts towards my miles or should I only count my outside WALKING or dvd miles? Just wondered. Thanks and good luck gals!

I think if you walk it ,it counts, but it might be better to set a minimum goal for the day (or week) of a certain number of steps. Where the pedometer for a day or 2 and see how many steps you are taking regularly and then set a goal. Also there may be some place on the web that says how many steps equal a mile. :carrot: :carrot:

thanks...my pedometer does calculate steps into miles so I guess I am ok, but I still need to push myself to be doing outside (or brisker walking) and be faithful to my walk away the pounds dvd to get my heart rate up.
thanks for your thoughts. have a great weekend everybody

I think my thinking was if you know you walk say 3 miles a day normally then your goal would be say 5 miles which would mean you would be have to add some activity to make up the difference. Which would mean you're doing more than you were doing before. Either way, Let me know how it works out for you.

I'm joining up!! Hi I'm Nancy age 44, I'm in Colorado. I have been a real slacker with my exercise. I walk 30 mon everyday outdoors and do yoga but I just do that for enjoyment and I'm not progressing or pushing myself. That walking is kind of my meditation/prayer time. My goal is to work up to 3 miles treadmill or elliptical on weekdays. While I'm at the gym maybe I could lift a wt too. I want to finish this 120 by New Years.
If each mile burns about 100 cal that would be 12,000 cal. And one pound is 3500cal, hey thats a lot of work for 3.4lbs. Oh well its good for my heart, maybe it will thin down my big ole thighs. ;)
I love those watp takes, I did them last winter, but now my dvd broke. Gotta get a new one before this winter.
Give me some inspiration what changes are you seeing with this walking???

NawChem I am 356 and since I have been walking my knees don't hurt. I have more energy and stamina during the day. Going up and down the stairs is no longer an ordeal. I don't get out of breathe and I generall just feel better....
This is kind of a quick since I am leaving for a trip

Glad to be on this journey with you. If you all are looking a diet challenge I'm also doing the 18 weeks to New Years started by snowbrocade.

Prpleyeris what dancing DVD did you get. As much as I love WATP I am a little tired of leslie. I was thinking looking into the belly dancing.

Hi Obsid,
The first dvd i had was "blast away the pounds" with Denise Austin.I like it ..but even after 2 weeks I was geting bored....I bought" Dance off the Inches" 2 pack. I tried it for the first time last night and was totally frustrated. I think it will eventually be good but it went to fast and I found out just how unco-ordinated I am! I definatley cant dance I guess! I bought both at Wal*mart.
good luck...by the way I got weighed tonight and lost .8 (almost 1 pound...which I will gladly accept after some of the things I ate this week..;(

prpleyeris on the bottom line where you change your miles it says pounds, I just typed miles over that.
Thanks for welcome. Christian with the mileage your racking if your not losing I bet its because your gaining some muscle.
8 miles down so far this week. I went farther then I've ever gone on the trail that starts behind my house. It gets prettier the further you go on it, water falls and bridges. It was worth the extra little push.

09-21-2006, 02:18 PM
Well I got in the 5 yesterday and did 3 this morning so far, I have to meet the lady I walk with at 2:00 pm and do 2 more so I already added that much to the bottom line ;)
Nancy- It has to be muscle because the weightloss is just toooo slow to not be doing something ...my inches are really what blew my mind yesterday...I have lost 9 inches overall since I have started walking :dizzy: I was SHOCKED!!! Lets keep up the great work ladies....it is paying off :D

prpleyeris, I get bored wotj things pretty fast, so I get exercise videos from the library so I only have to do one for 3 weeks and then I get another.
Christian holy smokes 9" is huge! Now that's an inspiration. That thing in your signature- are you in tops? I went to a meeting on Monday but I was the only one there. So I'm thinking of trying the one in a the bigger city next door to me. Is it helping you?
I guess this proves I am dyslexic. Its not 120 miles in 3 months. Oops!

Hey ladies sorry I've been gone, but I finally closed on a condo in another state so lots of driving back and forth. It was this challenge that finally poked. I just didn't want to goa whole week and do nothing. So I did the 2 mile WATP this morning and I am going to really try to get a 1 mile with weight in tonight.
For the ticker I use tickerfactory.com You can make it whatever units you want. For dieting I am working intuitive eating (thintuition.com and overfed head is the book. I have been eatling alot less and more concious of why I am eating.

Something else that has gotten better since I have been walking. When I slept I would wake up in the middle of the night with some part of my hand or arm asleep, no feeling and that has ended. I wonder if my arm had gotten to fat to be bent?

nachem- Yes I am in Tops, I lead a group of about 25 ladies here in Missouri and LOVE it ;) I have been in Tops since 1999 and it is a HUGE help, even when I do bad, I know if it werent for the weigh in every week I would not be where I am today, I would be right back where I started and maybe higher, I am also a KOPS as I reached my doctor set goal last October and really want to keep at it or really I want to go below so I wont ever lose my status, Keep up the great work everyone, I am off to walk afterwhile myself, :grouphug:

Obie that's great about the sleep. I have sleep apnea and insomnia, last night I think I had my first hotflash so I really struggle with sleep issues.
This challenge is motivating all of us.
Christian I will try another tops. I measured and I have lost some inches too. Most of the summer I set my goal to walk 30 min everyday and do an hour of yoga. I tend to only look at the scale and didn't realize my hips and thighs were a little smaller.
I did 1.5 miles today, and I saw a coyote. Its 46 degrees and its definitely fall here.

I have 67 miles in so far but havent been able to walk much this week due to several meetings a day at work and getting home late. I need to do my blast away dvd...right now I have absolutely no energy....these longs days take it out of me. Anyhow..I hope you do well tomorrow. Obsid I hope your ankle is healing quickly for you and your move is going smoothly....
Nawchem...your view outdoors sounds breathtaking!!!! I am in western Pa...and the leaves and such are just starting to turn...I love fall...the air is so crisp and the colors turn so beautiful..i just hate what follows it!
