View Full Version : Welcome, Featherweights!

If you only have a few pounds to lose, you're a featherweight! We have all types of women on 3FC, and we all have different needs. A woman that has 200 pounds to lose has different needs from one that needs to lose 50 pounds and one that needs to lose 10 pounds. Thus, we have added Featherweights!
If you need to lose 10-15 pounds, you might find that you don't get all the sympathy you feel you deserve. We understand that it isn't always easy to lose weight, no matter how much you need to lose. We hope by starting this corner of the forum, that it will enhance the whole Fat Chick Experience for you.
Welcome!!
PS - This is not only for 10-15 pounders - if you feel like you can benefit from this forum, you are welcome!

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SO glad this thread is being started. Losing weight is a big deal to ANYONE regardless of how much. But I think everyone can agree that it is easier talking to someone with similar weight goals, even though we should all be supportive of everyone in the community :D

Hi all--just want to add a little note. When I worked in a fitness gym, I found a woman was just as likely to burst into tears over her last impossible to lose 10 lbs as a woman who had 100+ to lose. NO ONE has a monopoly on the emotional pain of being over the weight that they feel most comfortable at. Good luck all!! BJF

I have about 25 lbs to loose to be where I think I will feel good and look good. However I have been focusing more on my body measurements lately then my weight. My waist is 28 inchs, my hips are 40 inches and my thighs are 24 inches. I would like to loose 2-3 inches from each of these areas....so whatever weight that brings me to I will be happy.

I am always aware of maintaining my comfortable weight. So it always seems like I am up or down the same 5-10 pounds. I use to be a heavyweight and I have to agree with some of the comments that were posted here. :)

Hi featherweights! Thank you so much for starting this thread!
I have about 28 pounds left to lose, which sometimes feels impossible. There have been numerous times where I've felt guilty about complaining about my weight, almost as if my 50 pounds don't hold as much merit as someone needing to lose 100 or more. I have so much admiration for anyone who makes the choice to lose weight, be healthier, and feel good about themselves, regardless of how many pounds they want to shed, but it's nice to have people to talk to who are in the same boat as me!
Good Luck and Happy 4th of July!

wow. what a great idea for a thread. im new to 3fc and not really sure where to begin. i'm sure i;ll find lots of advice and support but sometimes i think people will think my vanity pounds arent as important. i weigh about 128ish....not really sure since i dont own a scale....and would like to get to 108. since im just over 5 feet this is reasonable. im gonna try the sonoma diet (since thats the majority of my diet anyway) blended with south beach and exercise a lot....just finding the time will be difficult. i am a kindergarten teacher (hence my name) and i work part time at a day care after school. ideally i'd like to start running again (did so a few years ago in college) in the morning before school and then maybe take a stress-releasing walk in teh evenings...or maybe do a yoga/pilates video when old man winter rolls around.
anyway, just wanted to say hi and thanks for a great room

My weight has been the bain of my existance some days. So, I'm glad to find this thread. I should lose about 35 lbs plus or give or take a pound. I'm short so there is little room for the weight to spread around. These last few weeks it has been hot and humid so the treadmill has been gathering dust.
Thank goodness there is a nice breeze today and it is cooler.
That's about it for today.

Hi Everyone!
I am at the halfway point in my weight loss journey but still need lots of support. I started my latest journey back in January.
I'm 42, married, have 2 little girls and work outside the home.
I have lost the same 20-30 pounds so many times I've lost count!:o
I am doing it MY WAY this time (kind of calorie counting and exercising) and although it's been a very slow process, I know I'm gonna keep it off this time!:carrot:
All of you have done so great and are a great inspiration to me!

Hi I am Angela! I just had a baby 7 weeks ago. I gained 33 pounds and have already lost 35 due to bf. But I still need to lose 28 more pounds. I've never been good at sticking to exersizing so I am mostly trying to eat healthier. Hubby is joining me this time. So I am very hopeful this time.

I have another 19 lbs to lose. Most of my life I was underweight. If anyone told me that after age 50 I'd be fighting overweight, I'd have thought they were crazy! But here I am. My goal (140) is still 20 lbs more than I ever thought I would weigh... But that's what Weight Watchers says is a healthy weight for me.

I'm not sure but i think this is a good place for me. I have about 23 pounds to lose before i hit 140lbs, and then i may go down more depending on how i feel. Its a good amount of weight to still get off, but i think it classifies me as a featherweight :D
So i think i will be joining you ladies in losing the last bit of my weight (i've already lost 21lbs).

Hi I'm new here. I just want to lose about 10 pounds and feel better and more comfortable about the way I look. I used to be more active (I did a lot of distance running, so my food intake was limitless), but now, I'm not as motivated and since I'm no longer part of a Cross Country team, there are not as many running buddies for me. I still try to work out at the gym and do Taekwondo once a week. I need to eat healthier and not have as many sweets. I'm trying to only eat one dessert a day...yesterday was not successful. I just wanted to post that so I'm accountable, and today I'm making an effort to make up for yesterdays overindulgences. I look forward to the support I've seen here so far ;)

GREAT to see this group! I often feel foolish sharing what I would like to lose because when I do say "I would like to lose little" (which IS a lot to ME), I get those weird looks and "Oh whatever, I don't want to hear it" comments. But I too am so uncomfortable at my current weight. Not to mention the last 10-20 lbs is SOOO HARD to lose!!! It is beginning to run my life and consume my thoughts, so just knowing there are other featherweights really helps! I think the featherweights need some type of challenge of their own! Hmmm???

hi all...im a recent addition to 3fc and ive been looking around these forums, and this one appears to suit me best. i was just wondering if anyone could help me out and give me advice on what motivates them and what gives you all will power. I know I dont like the weight that I'm at but food appeals to me more so thats my struggle. I always fluctuate by about 10 lbs but I would really like to stick to it this time. Im frankly terrified of thanksgiving because I go see my husbands family who cooks good old country food and never seems to think we can eat enough so its a lot of pressure that I would like not to give in to. Any suggestions or advice on what works for you?

Hi everyone, I'm new here, but this forum seemed to suit me best. I'm a college student, and I originally gained weight living in the dorms and my first year after the dorms when I didn't really care what I was eating. My highest was about 187, and then about 2.5 years ago I lost about 25 lbs of it, however it has crept back up to 167. I'd like to lose about another 20 lbs.
My worst things are snacking and going out on the weekend (I love beer and mixed drinks). Also it's hard not to eat after coming home on the weekend late at night. I usually like to workout because I feel better, but often times late nights and school work on top of jobs tend to make it easier for me to skip.
So I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully I can meet my goals. I'd like to workout about 4-5 days a week and cut down on my snacking and eating out. Looks like everyone on these forums are very helpful and positive about giving people support!

Hi all!
Hoping I can join you all in Featherweights :) It seems to probably fit my circumstances the best.
I'm pregnant (I'm having an elective caesar in 2 days so almost done!) and I have a daughter who turns four in 5 days. My tickers are in kilos so for anyone who speaks 'pounds' I'll tell my story in pounds. :)
This pregnancy I've put on far more weight than recommended, though part of the problem is the weight I had put on just before getting pregnant when my lifestyle became more sedentary because of a change of jobs. So when fit and healthy I am around 120 pounds (54-55kg) and now I'm 177 pounds (80 kg). Obviously some of that will disappear in 2 days but I'm not sure yet how much. My first goal will be to get to a healthy BMI - so 148 pounds (about 67kg).
I'll be breastfeeding for as long as I can, not only because it's best for bub but also because of the health benefits to myself... I breastfed my DD til she was 13 mo.
Anyway that's it for me, I'm going to try to eat healthy (pretty much not following any one plan, though the evidence about low GI is overwhelming so will be basing what I eat from now on on Low GI, combined with just trying to eat healthy, wholesome, and where possible organic food) and exercise - I'll have to start off gently because of the caesar but will be walking, swimming, doing some weights/resistence, as well as pilates. At least - that's the plan!

Hi ladies! Susan invited me over from the Introductions board so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Andrea and I'm 30 years old and a mother of one daughter. She is 17 months old now and I gained a total of 58 lbs before I got pregnant and while I was pregnant. I am breastfeeding and I have lost 41 lbs, but am having a hard time stopping myself from eating whatever I want...the entire reason I gained the 58 lbs in the first place. It's like I'm a kid in a candy store most of the time. I can get movtivated, but it usually only last a few weeks. I'm hoping to find some support here so that it can be a lifestyle change, not a diet.
I've been following Dr. Fuhrman's Eat to Live diet and it basically just means I gave up dairy, sugar, etc. and eat mostly vegetables and fruit and beans. I feel a ton better since I've been eating mostly this way, but the one thing I haven't been able to give up is sugar. I love chocolate and really struggle with not binging on it.
Some of the factors that are keeping me from losing are 1) my husband works out of town during the week so it's just me, the baby, and the kitchen. 2) Boredom. I'm a stay at home mom and there are days we don't get out of the house. Those are the worst. I can't seem to find enough to do to keep me from eating. 3) I'm exhausted. I do everything around here and that usually means that I don't get to sleep as much as I should. We are working on changing this aspect of our lives, but it comes with a job change for hubby.
I'm going to read through the posts and learn more about all of you! Can't wait to get to know you all and get on this bandwagon with you!!

Hello,
I am also new to 3FC and would like to join the featherweights :).
I gained 25 pounds just this summer
I went from being a fairly active student to a sedentary summer job that involved a lot of fancy meals. 25 lbs later I don't know what happend. I figured when I got back to school it would fall off. That hasn't happend. So I've been keeping track of everything I eat on a fitday type program and exercising regularly. It's helped a lot already to read the posts...it's great inspiration.
I'm feeling esp. motivated right now and I hope I can stay this way and get rid of this weight!.

Hi, I am Jen. I just joined here a few days ago and have been doing alot of reading, and getting some great tips. Here is a little about me, I am a stay ah home mom. I have four children(12,10,8,6) I spent my entire 20's changing diapers and having babies. I was never heavy then, highest weight was 120(not including prego weights). I turned 30 in 2004 and was diagnosed with Lupus. I was put on steroids for a while and gained 40 pounds over two years. I have been flare free from my illness for 4 months now, and am off all meds. All my kids are now in school, I am feeling healthy so I am ready to get my weight back under control.

Hi All,
I did a separate post to introduce myself, but thought I would add it to this sticky if you are wondering who I am ;)
My story is that my weight has yo-yo'd for years. Mostly between 140 and 160. In 2003, just prior to getting pregnant with my first son, I had maintained around 136 for about 4 months, which was huge for me. This was done after much sole searching and reading tons about life style changes. I then had two babies in quick succession. I now have 2 boys (3 years old and 19 months). Life is crazy at my house... I don't plan to have anymore children, so no more excuses!! I joined Weightwatchers fairly quickly after my last pregnancy, and I steadily lost weight until I reached about 140. In the past few months, I have gained a few pounds, and have held steady at 143. I am proud of this, but I just want to make that final push to the sub-140s!!
Weightwatchers has been working great for me. If I was motivated to stay in my points range, I WOULD lose those extra pounds. So I decided to come here for hopefully a little nudge to get to my goal
I excercise pretty regularily. I run, walk, lift weights. My weakness is food and drink!!
You guys seem like a great group, and I look forward to getting to know you

Here's my intro:
I was always tiny growing up, I was a competitive gymnast and then a cheerleader in college. Then I got pregnant. I quickly went from being weighed in (and punished if my weight was even a pound too much) to having the freedom (and expectation) to eat whatever. I took full advantage. I went from 115 to 176 in 9 months. I dumped my fiance when I was 5 months pregnant, because he was cheating on me, so I ate because I was depressed. I got down to 130 after having the baby. That was 6 years ago.
After college I took a job far away from my family. I didn't cook, because I only know how to cook for a large group of people and it was just me and my 2 year old. So instead of cooking, we ate out every night. Combine that with a stressful and depressing job situation- I gained the weight back. When I quit that job (almost 2 years ago) I was at 165.
Within a month of quitting that job, and moving back in with my parents, I was down to 155. I started grad school and a full time job.
Currently I fluctuate between 150 and 155. My goal is 130. I'd like to be down to that by August, as I am in my best friend's wedding then (she just got engaged last weekend)!
My biggest problems are portion control (I love food) and working out (I'm a single mom, in grad school, and I will be student teaching starting in January). I feel guilty if I don't come straight home from work to be with my child. My Christmas Resolution (not waiting for New Years!) is to work out at least 3 times a week, and to only eat one serving at each meal.

Hi everyone, I am just starting. I have under 10lbs to lose, but they are the same 10lbs I've been yo-yoing with since the birth of my last child. (Ahem...6yrs ago!) Because I suffer from a chronic illness, hence the username, I have a hard time sticking to much of anything, I just give in to the fatigue when I know if I would just push through and build some muscle I would also build stamina!!:carrot: We will be traveling for the holiday and this always hits me hard. I was doing Bikram yoga for a while for the fibromyalgia, but it is 45minutes from my house and a big pain. I've been looking into the fluidity exercise method...it doesn't look too cardiovascular and looks like it would stretch the body as well, has anyone tried it? Anyway, thanks for letting me ramble:dizzy:

Hi all. I'm trying to lose 6-8 pounds. I've been at this for 6 years, but constantly yoyo-ed. My main problem is compulsive eating. I plan to go on a mainly liquid diet to lose the first 3 lbs or so. Looking forward to struggling with everyone!

I'm new to this forum. I've been dieting for 5 whole days. I'm quite proud of myself since that's the longest I've ever managed! I've got about another 14lbs to lose. I'm the heaviest I've ever been and it's quite depressing! However, I'm remaining optimistic.

Hi all,
Well this is it (again). My "mini goal" is 20lbs, however, I would like to get down to 120-130-ish. How fondly I remember those days. I always struggled with weight, but really started gaining around my first pregnancy, then the "baby weight" never came off. I cant blame it all on being prego...I do love food and excersize (well, I cant even spell it!). So here I am, and this time I think I'm ready. I feel like I'm gonna take it day by day, and give myself goals that are not so much weight based, but change based. First step will be to move around!!

Hello,
I just signed up and I am looking for somewhere to say hi. Though I am not exactly light as a feather I am hoping to find a home here.
Really I only have 10lbs to loose and then another 10lbs from my first kid and another 10 from my second. Well it kind of adds up. All those feathers turn into one big turkey.
I tend to neither gain nor loose easily. If I diet I tend to keep it off (unless I get pregnant then I pack on the pounds big time) but I am really good at quitting after the first 10lbs so I am hoping that sticking around here will keep me motivated until I am in a more comfortable range.
:carrot:
My daughter really likes the dancing carrot! I think we should get him to do his very own excercise video.

Hi, I'm glad I found this forum.... I love that the whole site has a great sense of humor and I feel like it will be very supportive even if I only have a little 30 pounds or so..... :-)

Hi, I am so glad that I finally found Featherweights because although I don't have a lot to lose, it is a constant struggle and I feel a lot of anxiety about food some days. I used to be quite heavy and most people don't believe it. I went through 3 back to back pregnancies and brought my weight down every time, so I know I can do it. I gain the same 10 pounds every winter. I usually lose it by August. I don't like this and I don't like to have to constantly think about what I eat and where and when and why. I would like to be free of worrying about weight but I know if I did, I would gain!
I am always the happiest when I am at around 135 and I am 5'8". Now I know I am up around 143. I hate getting on the scales...I confess to being almost phobic about them. If I get on and I am more than I think I am, I get quite upset with myself and I know that isn't healthy. Also, trying to lose 7 lbs is so hard. Its not like when I had a lot more to lose, then the weight really comes off if you are vigilant. But not now. I can work for 3 weeks just to get off 1 pound.
So, that is why I really wanted to get this emotional support because I am in this body for a long time (I hope) and I want to feel comfortable in it all the time and stop feeling so stressed about my weight.

Can anyone in Featherweights tell me how to put the scale indicator on the bottom of the message? I think it would help me if I could get one too!

... I agree that it's totally difficult to lose the last few pounds, it seems like I've been working at them for ages, but together we can do this!!
For the weight tracker: Go to the top of this page to "User CP" then on that page on the left go to "Edit Signature", the weight tracker is right there...

I'm so glad I found this site - its the 1st website I found that had a 'featherweight' section.
I used to play volleyball in college and since I graduated I have had a lot of trouble staying in shape - with out a coach yelling at me all the time :) . I have 10lbs. to loose and I would like to get back into shape. Can't wait to discover more on this website!

Hi! I am a longtime lurker, and decided this morning to join you all in finding support and encouragement, since I haven't been able to provide this for myself. I come from a family of LARGE women, all of whom lived as willowy petites until about 35. I'm 31, and trying to head that off at the pass! In addition, my mom is a member of oa, and I have recently noticed in myself a tendency toward binge and overeating. I have been hanging on to the same 10 pounds for at least a year, and want them to go instead of serving as building blocks for a potential future gain. I also suffer from sometimes debilitating depression, and as of a month ago began exercising even though I never feel like it. This is my step 2- really noticing how I am feeling about my extra weight and taking real steps to address it, instead of just beating myself up about it without taking any action. I am glad to have found you all and look forward to sharing!

I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Kylie and I've been hanging around the site for a couple weeks now. Everyone is just amazing and I know my recent success is due in large part to the support I've gotten here.
In terms of background, what led up to me coming here was a bunch of Christmas pictures ("I look like THAT?!") and a desire to clean out my closet. I want to give away the "fat" wardrobe and even the "balancing on the edge" wardrobe and be able to wear the stuff that I actually like and feel good in.
I'm learning more about myself and the things that will make me successful long term. I also post on the Woman (and Men) Who Lift group.
Nice to meet, y'all.

Hi... I have been around a few of the other forums a bit but I am definately new to this one. I think this is a wonderful idea for a forum and I am excited to join. My goal is to lose around 35 pounds to put me at 125 pounds. I remember being at that weight in high school and it was such a great feeling. I am really looking forward to the day when I can say all my hard work has paid off. I hope to see you all around!

Hi everyone! I'm so glad I've found this forum - sometimes I don't have a sounding board for my weight concerns. 10 lbs can make a huge difference in your overall fitness and deserves just as much support as someone with a different weight loss plan.
I look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing stories

Yay!! I've found a home!
Back in HS, I was a dancer and gymnast and a muscular 115 #s. By 18 (thanks to birth control), I was up to 125 or so. When I got pregnant with my first son I was 127 and had no idea I would be waving goodbye to bikinis forever. I hit 181 by the end of the pregnancy and even though he weighed near 10#s and I breastfed, I stalled at 165. I've managed to bust butt and lose SOME of the weight between babies, but despite gaining less with each one, I still got to about 180 and then stalled at 165 everytime.
Two years ago I changed everything and finally got going on the weight loss. I got down to 132 in about 6 months and was fit and toned. I did pilates, counted calories, cut carbs and sugar dramatically, ate whole grain stuff and ran 5 or 6 miles a few times a week. It was awesome. I really thought it was a lifestyle change, and didn't worry about gaining it back, since I never had any dramatic weight gain when I wasn't pregnant. Well, I started gaining weight last summer and I'm more than halfway back to where I started (165#). Despite best intentions I hover between 145 and 150. I have been under a lot of stress and usually tell myself I'm too tired to workout, and I'm a chronic sweets snacker.
It's not just my weight that bothers me. My body is WRECKED. I do not have a stomach, I have a mass of stretch marks. I think I could be happy at my current weight and size (8), if it was smooth, but it's a mess. I want to loss as much as possible so I can get it fixed in a few years. Sometimes I've thought, maybe I should just be fat, because they didn't look as bad, but at least when I'm thin, I can look good clothed. You know my husband doesn't care, but I DO!! I want to have no fat on my stomach, just the skin, so that when I get it fixed they take as much ugly as possible. Someday I want to have a belly button again!!
Hope you don't mind chatty people! Nice to meet ya'll!

Hi ladies! I've just written my first post in the introduction forum and now I think I might belong here. I'm Diana and I would like to lose 9 kilos (around 19/20 lbs). I have no idea if I'm too fat for this forum, but anyway... You all seem to be wonderful people and I know I can't do this on my own. I am really really in need of some support (well aren't we all :lol). I'm 33 and have 2 adorable children (a 12 year-old boy and a 15 month-old little princess).
My big problem is lack of self control. Man, I can't open a bag of chips or I'll eat them all :(! well girls, good luck to you and your weight loss goals. I promised myself that Monday will be the beginning of my weight loss!

Hi My name is Angela & I am trying to get down to 120lbs . 115 lbs is my ideal. I can not exersize much because of a back injury 10 months ago. I have been on steriod shots since Dec last yr. I have 2 girls 14 and 17. I have cats Mia & Dot . I have one boyfirend :) Mike. We have been together for over a yr and I have not worked or been out of bed much since the Accident in August. SO my BMI is 36 ugh!!! My family is gleefully happy to anounce how fat I am. Even after 2 kids I never had a problem with weight I was always the skinny redheaded kid. Thats how I see myself still but my clthes tell me different. :) I have went up 2 sizes. I hope to be back down to a size 5. I do need a healthier diet and am doing more yoga, and less feeling sorry for myself. :)

Hi Angela!! Looks like we're in the same boat, weight wise. And I hurt my knee last week and can't run, (believe me, I tried last night, it hurt like hell)and that's the only thing that really knocks the weight off me. I don't know what to do, but hope that my knee gets better soon. I think I'm going to try walking everyday and pack to my old standard, Pilates, since I can't do much bending...
Anyways, I'm with ya! Good luck!

Helloo!
I have been 'dieting' since the beginning of the year, and finally I feel like I'm on the home stretch. I also hear that this is the hardest part- the last 10-15 (or 17 in my case!). I don't follow a specific plan- I just track everything in fitday and exercise 5 times a week. I cut out sugars and white breads and pasta and rice too. I feel better than I have in a long time :)

ahhh. yes. the perfect thread for me and the rest of us here! i actually just joined. and i'm so happy that the members on this site are so supportive of each other.
as for me, i just finished a spring study abroad semester in spain, which was amazing. i loved every moment of it. we lived with homestay families, and got all our meals homecooked..and my host family, just kept feeding me and feeding me! unfortunately, after the semester of just eating, laying on the beach, and going to bars made me gain 15 extra pounds and went up 2 sizes. plus, i didn't do my daily exercise routine. my body just doesn't feel right, i feel so slow and heavy, especially since i'm on the short side. so here i am! ready to get back in shape..and hopefully have a better body before my final year in college begins the fall!

I hadn't thought about posting on Featherweights but since I am down to 13 or so pounds to lose, this might be the right place for me. I am a calorie counter and it is working well for me. I have had to start over after losing , getting to goal and getting careless and regaining not everything but a lot.

Hi there! I'm happy to find this forum and hope I can learn some tips for dealing with that (so, so difficult) last 15-20.
I had been up to a high of 155-160 at one point, then I had gotten down to 130 a few years ago... and then I got pregnant, and gained it all back! Now I'm working again. 120 is my goal, but I'd probably be pretty happy with 125.
One thing that I find discouraging is that when you get down to having 20ish pounds to go, people tend to say stuff like "Oh, you look great just as you are! You don't need to lose weight!" So many people are obese in the U.S. today that someone who is "only" 20 pounds over their ideal weight is seen as being a skinny mini! Sure, I may not "need" to lose weight, but I want to! I want to be the best me I can be, and I feel best when I'm thin and lean and fit.

Hi all! Just found this site today, and I've been glued to it for hours. (Beats hanging around the kitchen pantry looking for a bite to eat all day long...) I'm currently at about 160# - not overweight for my height, but not my personal ideal either. I'd like to get down to the lower end of the ideal weight range for my age and height. I'll post my story in the "what's your story" thread. I'm looking forward to reading your posts!

Hi!
I am not new to 3FC but am new to this forum. I started my weightloss journey in January of this year at my beginning weight of 153...by calorie restricting I got down to 141 by mid April. THis is when I joined 3FC and through a great cardio program and free weight program I have lost 24 pounds.
I need to lose 10 more (I would like to lose 15) and so I find myself here.
My dilligence seems to be flagging as of late but I'm still eating on plan. I follow a very low refined carb eating plan with lots of fresh fruit and salads as my main source of nutrients. I fast three days (fruit fast) once a month to give the old system a jog and do weigh ins once a week.
I look forward to this forum!

These last pounds are always the worst! I reach plateaus and frustrations more often than I care to count. I now have someone to share my frustrations with! LOL.....and my victories. :D

Allo all. I've been going around onto different forums on this site -- calorie counters, etc. -- but I felt a bit guilty for whining about my weight when many of the other posters still had 100+ pounds to lose. I have 20-30 pounds to lose (I haven't set a specific goal weight), though, so hopefully that's not too high to to be considered a "featherweight".
My SW was 158lbs, CW is about 141lbs (though menstrual bloat might be throwing that number off right now -- don't you hate period week?), longterm GW is between 110 and 120lbs, and I'm 5'2". My immediate goal weight is 135lbs. I'm losing weight by restricting to 1400 calories per day and lowering my carb intake.
Looking forward to getting to know you guys. :)

Hi, someone referred me to this forum. I have a medium amount of weight that I would like to lose: 20 pounds. I don't know if that makes me a featherweight (I don't feel like one) but there you have it. I'm 5'9'' and 160 pounds...my goal weight is 140, which I think is pretty realistic. I'm glad this forum exists because I am tired of being shot down by people who tell me "you don't need to lose any weight." I feel like I could tone up my muscle and lose fat and shed extra pounds, and I'm here for tips and support! So far I've been very impressed by everything I've seen here...I'm going to keep posting as this appears to be a very positive place!

Just joined 3FC yesterday and I think this is the place for me (having trouble negotiating the different threads/forums)! I have been maintaining since last December and need a push to drop a bit of weight. My goal loss is 12 lbs and I am trying to do it by running every other day with my dog (vs hitting the snooze button an extra 3 or 4 times!) and following a modified Atkins diet (I've never actually done Atkins, but I am trying to avoid bad carbs and sticking mainly to protein, fruit, veggies and dairy) - so far so good - one pound lost so far (well it would count as a full pound if I didn't have a darned digital scale)! I am also trying to scale back my alcohol intake - I am one to have a drink or two every night after work/with dinner. Hopefully combining those three things and having all of you to keep me on track will help me achieve my goal by Christmas. Well - that's my story. Any tips you have would be great - I am going to try to find some other posts that might be helpful too (I am looking for a Friday weigh-in group).
Happy losing and have a great day!

Hi there, I'm new to 3FC. I'm glad to have found this section. Lets see... I'm a stressed-out grad student living in Los Angeles with a very patient boyfriend. For the past two years I've been spinning my wheels and not getting anywhere with my weight loss goals. I have been at 107 lbs for months now, and despite my efforts, the scale won't budge. I'm inconsistent with my diet and my exercise, I know. A lot of the times, I "undo" all my exercise with binge eating at night, while I'm studying. Night eating is truly my biggest weakness! I want to get down to 100 lbs by January 2008. I haven't seen that number in years, and 7 lbs makes a big difference on short ones like me!

Hi there!! I'm new... lol... I want to lose the my last 12lbs. I started my diet 4 days ago. I'm having a good time with it. I'm taking it slowly. I'm just burning 300 extra cals with exersize and eating around 1200 - 1500 cals a day. I cant wait to weight myself and see this week's results. I have an easy time dieting. It comes very natural to me, somehow... maybe cause I've been doing it most of my life. But this time, I'm doing it with a very positive attitude and I think its making all the difference in the world. :)

I used to do that, and now I've become a bit obsessed with DailyPlate.com, which has helped me immensely. You put in what you eat for the day, and it calculates calories, fat, carbs, nutrients, etc. I've gotten in the habit of updating it throughout the day, and it definitely helps me plan. Just knowing that I'll have to enter what I ate helps me not to binge. Also, nighttime is when I tend to binge most, so if I keep it updated and I know I only have 600 calories or whatever for the night, I know I can't binge. Maybe something like that will help you?

Hello, I am new to 3fc and have enjoyed reading so many encouraging letters.I found myself putting on weight after Katrina hit our home and everyone around me seem to be adding on about 20 lbs. So I figured it was normal for everything we were dealing with. But its been 2 years and now I have added another 10 pounds. So I now find myself having to lose 30 pounds. I have never had to diet before, I was always active but now I live in the country were there is no gym. But I have made up my mind I have to do something as I am very unhappy with my weight. I was sooo happy to have found this site. Wish me luck.

I should weigh 115-122 to feel my best and I haven't seen those weights in a very long time. It is the usual story of losing a few pounds and then gaining them back, then repeat. It is getting harder to lose and easier gain, so I am seriously tired of this situation.
It is a real help to be able to share experiences with other people. I am sorry it took so long for me to start doing it.

I'm wondering if this is the place for me...? Because I have about 30 pounds to lose, I'm not sure if that's too much or too little. I joined this forum ages ago, actually, but I haven't posted much until this week so I'm not sure where I fit in :P

Hi All -- I'm Stella I'm new-ish here. I've already been hanging out in the calorie counters forum for a couple weeks, but I wanted to jump in here, as well. A wee introduction (partially copied from my post at the general Introductions forum):
I'm 25 and since adolescence, I've bounced all over the "Overweight" BMI range. Through high school and a year on exchange, I dealt with (relatively minor) depression by binging, eating up to 5000 calories in an evening. Luckily I was also fairly active, and my highest weight was about 180, at age 18. Over the next 5 years or so, I very gradually shed about 25 pounds, not through any particular plan, but just by getting happier and more active and eating better.
Then in the last year or two, I've regained about 10 pounds. The "no particular plan" plan clearly isn't working anymore. After Thanksgiving this year I started logging my calories on Fitday, and that made a huge difference for me. Before, I just did my best to eat a balanced diet, and not eat when I was already full. But if I failed, I wrote off the whole day as Bad, and inevitably ate more. Having an actual record was great, even if I didn't have a specific number of calories I was aiming for. I lost about 5 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but stopped logging (and exercising) over the break and gained them all back by early January.
Then I found this site and I keep coming back because it really helps keep me on track. Around January 15 I started going to the gym every day before work, and aiming for around 1600 calories per day, with a little wiggle room allowed on the weekends. So far I've lost 7 pounds and I feel great.
Well, I don't actually feel great at this exact second because I caught a nasty cold and couldn't work out for several days straight. But I'm feeling mostly over it now and will head back to the gym tomorrow.
Thanks for listening, y'all! You guys are so inspiring, and I'm so glad to be here.

Hi Everyone!
I've lurked her at 3FC forever and just found Featherweights today! And it is just the place I'm looking for! My weight has always bounced all over the place. And I struggle with binge eating.
I'm 48 and married. No kiddos. Just two furbabies...Australian Shepards..Neo and Pearle! I work full time....in fact...that is what I should be doing now!
Anyway, just a quick hello to everyone. I'm looking forward to spending time here and getting to know everyone. I've looked around and I can't wait to come back later and read some more. Thanks Jessica!

Hi everyone. I've been a member since August 2007, and I've lurked around the Featherweights forum hoping someday I would get to post there, and I think I can start!
My story is basically this - I'm 25, have been overweight my entire life (I was never laughed at or mocked because I was overweight, but because I am only 4'11 weighing anything over 120 is considered overweight). I gained about 35 pounds in 2006 and ballooned up to 187. I never really realized how much weight I had gained until I saw a picture at a holiday party in January 2007. I started doing weight watchers at home on April 16, 2007, and I've lost 50 pounds since then. It has been really hard, but I'm glad I've done it and I'm still fighting on.
Technically, I should weight between 95-120 pounds to be considered in my normal weight range because I am so short, but I am not really looking at those numbers right now. Right now I'm looking at 130 as my big time goal before my wedding in October. I was 130 for awhile in college and I really liked how I felt - but the funny thing is that I never got below a size 10 pant, and now I'm comfortably fitting in to 8s and moving down to a 6 soon hopefully. I think my body must be leaner than when I was in college because I have been exercising regularly for 4 months now and I think that is helping me trim down.
I might get to 130 and decide I want to lost another 5-10 pounds, but I am getting closer and closer to liking my weight and myself. I would definitely like to be trimmer (I still have the stomach pooch and my thighs aren't so great, but I'm working on that), but I know myself I will always have curves and I don't need to be a stick figure (I have been forbidden by my fiancee to become a stick figure anyways).
I think it is going to be a challenge to get down to 130 because since I got under 150 it's been a struggle, but I know that with time it will come off, I just have to be patient. Is it ok to consider myself a featherweight now?
Thanks everyone!

Hi Y'all! I am so glad to have found the featherweight forum! It's some how really reassuring to know that there are other people who have that little bit left to go to meet their goal.
About 18 months ago I lost 26 pounds. In the past 6 months I became very lazy about staying on plan and exercising. Some of those pounds have crept back on and I am recommitting myself to my weight loss plan.
I find y'all so inspirational and motivating! I'm really looking forward to being here.

hi everyone!
i want to join this forum because i want to lose a few pounds and work my way to getting healthier. I'm what they call skinny-fat; i can't walk up the stairs or run without getting winded. i'm working on eating better and have already managed to lose a few pounds. however i'm still struggling with getting motivated enough to exercise. i've decided to start very slowly and work my way up. i did 10 minutes on the treadmill and 10 minutes strength training. i plan on doing that the rest of the week and gradually do more.
i'm looking forward to using this community as motivation!

Hey everyone! I'm new to 3FC and have spent all my free time today learning about the site. I joined the 20 somethings forum but now I'm seeing that I belong more in this group since we're all in the same boat. Those 10-15 pounds fluctuate for me and I don't feel like women who need to lose a lot will be sympathetic. I'm so glad this forum is here. Now I can fit it. Quick question...In the 20 somethings forum they do monthly goals and keep track on here. Is there anything like that for featherweights? Ok, hope to talk to y'all soon. -JILLLLL ;)

Hi Ilene,
I guess I'll wait to loose my weight when I get back in town. I'm in Louisiana right now enjoying the local cuisne which makes it's too hard to count carbs.
If I'm lucky, all the walking I'm doing down here will help offset any weight gain.

I too am new here and was directed to the featherweights group. It definately sounds like the right place for me ... I've got 20-25 pounds to lose and would love to have it gone by my 30th birthday, which is the end of August. So far, everything I've ever tried has had minimal effect so its time to get serious and kick this body of mine into gear.

Hello everyone!
i learned from my welcome post that I fit into this group.
I'm looking to lose about 24 pounds. I'm currently at 124 and I am 4'8'', so this would be perfect for my height, at least that's what I'm told.
My stepmother doesn't want me to lose that much weight; she thinks I'll look sickly, but I don't think I will. My mini goal is to be 115, we'll see how I feel when I'm there.
However, I will say being 124 is a big improvement from where I used to be at 175. I feel a lot better, and I'm glad that I've made the jump to do this for my health.

Hi all! I think this is the forum I fit into. I am 22, 5'6, and 155 lbs. I would like to drop 20 lbs in order to hit my goal of 135. I try and exercise and eat healthy but it is HARD, I need help, motivation, a place to turn when the ice cream is calling for me. My highest weight has been 180, but that was 5 years ago. I have been 155-160 for over 2 years now. Looking forward to chatting with others who have similar goals.

I've decided it's time for a change! I'm going to cut down on the junk food and do turbo jam at least 5 times a week, if not everyday! I want to lose about 20 pounds or so. Wow, this forum looks great, and like exactly what I need!
I would like to lose, oh, about 15ish pounds. I think I'm a few cupcakes over 130 and I'd like to be down around 120 or even a few rice cakes less. You know?
I really don't like weighing myself, and it doesn't seem to breed good feelings when I'm doing it regularly. That being said, this seems like a great place for encouragement, ideas, and support.

Anyways, I'm 18, and I'm about to start college. I move into the dorms on Wednesday, Sept. 10th. I'd like to lose about 15 lbs. I'm also here for motivation to avoid gaining that extra college pudge!
hi...i've been here for a week or so now...i think that it's so great to have this support. this is my first post in the featherweight forum though and it seems like a good place for me.
i've been really working on losing weight since june. i've lost 13 pounds so far (about a pound a week) but i'm hitting a solid plateau here at 156. i'm continuing on--actually the plateau has been pushing me to push myself even harder...but i'm getting frustrated. i know this is all part of the process...but it just seems like my goal is so far away, even though i'm making progress.
anyone have any advice on breaking through a plateau?
thanks so much in advance!

Hi Kelly and e32  and :welcome: to Featherweights and 3FC...
e32 -- plateaus are a pain to say the least, my trick is to intensify my exercise by doing inclines on the treadmill or doing intervals ... Hope this helps...
suenami
09-15-2008, 10:06 AM
e32, plateaus are totally annoying, but I find that if I push through them, even if the scales don't budge, one day I wake up to find myself 2-3 ell bee's lighter, and that seems to get things in motion again. It would be nicer all around if the scale just moved steadily but I doubt that happens for anyone.
thanks ilene and susan for the advice. i appreciate it. my problem now is that i think i might be pushing myself too hard. i've been exhausted and yesterday i got sick. it seems like my body is telling me to slow it down. but my obsessive commited brain is having a hard time responding to that. on sunday i passed out while i was running. i did go yesterday for a short time but was totally exhausted. i told myself i'm giving it a rest for today but it's hard to do.
what do you guys do when you're sick? feel free to give me all the "basic" advice again...i feel like i need to hear it.
thanks,
ella

Hi! With the existence of this forum, I no longer feel so alone! My friends and coworkers roll their eyes at me when they see me turn down a treat or talk about dieting, because they are almost all bigger girls than me and think I don't need to lose weight. They try to call me anorexic, but trust me, I'm not -- I love food and eat all the time, I am just bothered by the extra pounds I carry, even if it's fewer pounds than they have.
It's not my fault that so many people are borderline obese, and I shouldn't limit my self-improvement goals to a level unacceptable to me just because other people choose not to try for their best.
Skinny jeans, here I come, lol!

I am SO happy for this part of the website. No, us smaller folk don't always get much sympathy, lol. But do we really need it? Nah! We just need inspiration and motivation! We all have something to offer one another on this journey. :)
So anyway.. I am 5'0 and currently 118.5

My highest non-preg weight was around 135.

Hi everyone... I'm new to the web and new to this blog?
I have dieted my whole life and also have lost the same 30 pounds over and over and over!! Frustrating. I eat a very healthy diet - I just over eat - I exercise regularly (min 5 times a week at a gym plus numerous outdoor activities) but never seem to be able to take the weight off without pretty much starving myself. I have tried everything. I'm frustrated, somewhat depressed and extremely annoyed that I have to constantly watch what I eat just to maintain my 180 pound frame.. I figure I'm so active that I should be able to eat what I want. However, history has proven that statement/thought wrong. I should weigh around 145. I'm aiming for 155. I've decided to give it one more shot at portion control. I recently purchased the full bars (and am commenting about them on that blog) and am desperately hoping it works. In the meantime I'm trying to focus on 'healthy' not thin. I would be very interested in hearing (reading) what others have done to achieve weight loss. Thanks !

Hey everyone!
I wasn't sure whether I'd be eligible to be a feather weight - I sure as daisies don't feel like one - but from the sounds of it I'm good over here. I guess the last thing you want to hear when you're trying to lose 100+ pounds is somebody complaining about 25... but Ive been pretty miserable about it!
So here's me in a nutshell: for the last 13 years, losing weight has been something I did in secret and came with lots of unhealthy behaviour. I want to try to do it different this time but I admit that Im struggling. As a student, i sit at home all day which makes me very moody - the ideal ingredients for devouring packs of cookies, liquorice (my worst vice), chocolate - you name it!
I'm 26, 5"4 and weigh 141 lbs. A week ago it was 145 so I am going in the right direction (!), but this is literally the heaviest Ive ever been.
Usually when I start feeling uncomfortable and try to lose weight, I am anywhere between 129 - 134 lbs. Am not sure how it got so out of hand (for my standards), the fact that I was depressed for a year probably didn't help!
Anyway, I want to go back to weighing anywhere between 116 and 120 lbs, which is when I fit into all my nice clothes again (my reward!). And I'm giving myself until May 1st to accomplish this, which seems plenty of time. More than the two weeks I usually aim for anyway! When it comes to my weight Im generally not very realistic or smart.
So I really like this forum but I am having a hard time staying motivated. Part of me wants to do a crash diet because I cannot wait to feel good about my body again, and the other part doesn't know how to cope, doesn't believe I'll manage to shed the weight or keep it off and just wants to ravish the fridge and give up now. Sound familiar?
Oh and the third part just can't stop obsessing about food. Its all I think about at the moment... desserts, pies, burritos Mmm. Not exactly the perfect mind set for starting a healthy weight loss process!
For exercise, well Im very lazy. However I try to do 30 minutes of running 3-4 times a week which is more than I've ever done before. But somehow it's only making me heavier.
In conclusion: I'm moody and it's hard but I really do want to manage this, so I hope you can all help me and I'll try to do the same for you!
Pleased to meet you,
Neeka

Yay! I found the forum for me!!! I felt so bad complaining about my 25lbs when some had to lose over 100lbs. I have been on 3FC on and off off for a year and this is the first time I noticed this group. Thank you so much!!!
