I agree it is a sad situation... but not everything is what it seems. A friend of mine had a super problem when her son was little... he was three and built more like a 7 year old.. NOT fat; just a big kid; he is now way over 6'. But she was required by law to keep him in a car seat and there were none big enough. She knew it was dangerous to have him in the car seat... but if something happened and he WASN'T in one, then what? The kid absolutely would not fit into the seat! Soo... what are parents like this supposed to DO?

I was referring to the fact that one of the major reasons kids don't fit in these seats is that they are overweight.

I understood that. I was referring to the fact that not ALL kids who need bigger seats are overweight, and the American "one size fits all" mentality sometimes honestly doesn't work for reasons other than we are all fat. Our culture tells us we should all be beanpoles but reality is some people just aren't. I was not "defending" a society that also has become so sedentary and junked out that it is creating widespread overweight and poor health.

It's funny .. not funny in a good way... but funny that our culture contradicts itself so much. Influencing us to want to be "beanpoles" yet luring us to become sedentary and "junked out". We shouldn't be surprised by the resulting health care changes needed to assist the morbidly obese and in the increase of childhood obesity.
