Hi. Meme, I don't know how you look after those little ones everyday. I have had my granddaughter since last Thursday and I am tired. Maybe it is conditioning or something(lol). She just left and actually, the quietness is so nice. No t.v., movies or anything that makes a noise. Doing good on your diet. I have also lost 5 pounds, so am doing ok as well.

Tootie - So nice to hear from you. Sounds like you have been busy. I do hope that you enjoyed your trip to NYC. Always nice to go home. Those little kids just love unconditionally - something that we should all remember I think.

Mima - hope your holiday is going well. Sounds nice. Enjoy your granddaughter. 13 is a hard age, but then they are also delightful at that age.

Joanne and Candice - hope you are both feeling good. Candice, did you go get another shot for your arm?

Hi Ally. Unlike the rest of you, I hate loose clothing. I like things that fit. I just have to be different I guess.

I am off to the Chiro in just a little while.

Happy........I have clothes on today that "fit" and the first thing someone said was "have you lost weight?". Now I know my 2 lb weight loss isn't raising red flags, it is my form fitting size 16 pants.
But I am so used to baggy fit that I kept thinking that I must look like a cow.
Even when I was thin, I wore baggy.
Good for you if you don't.
And grandchildren? I still have teens at home so I can't comprehend little ones, but I tell people I won't have empty nest syndrome. Peace and quiet would be heaven.
Get this....my kids made an omelet in one of my sauce pans today. Burnt it good and left the pan on the stove. AND, they threw out my hard boiled eggs and said "they were so old they were hard".
School. When is school starting???

Ally, that is so funny. Boys will be boys. I am a strange one I guess, but I never cried when my kids started kindergarten or school and certainly never had emptynest syndrome. I love my kids very much, but I also know that it is a normal progression to want to live on your own. I still remember how I felt about that. I guess I am like my Mom. PLus, I don't think I have ever really had an empty nest, because they always seemed to come back home for visits (almost weekly). Probably saw more of them AFTER they moved out than I did when they were at home (lol).

I never liked loose fitting clothes because they reminded me of maternity wear. I always had a pretty good figure so I always wore clothes that fit well. I think that certainly makes a difference as to how people see you. If you are in baggy clothes they think you are hiding something and that you are just fat. I know one women who is a plus size and wears fitted clothing and she looks wonderful. I think part of the problem is an attitude. If we don't look like Barbie, then we are to fat. Shame on us. That is just so unrealistic.

Women of yesteryear were heavy and we thought to be beautiful. How times have changed.

Wasn't it nice to hear from Tootie.

Good morning. Watch out for a virus that comes in your e-mail from someone you know attached as a document. This virus goes into address books-that's why it looks innocent. My son got one and it looked like it was from his client. Delete it-do not open the attachment.Ok-went to see Dr. Doolittle yesterday and then to the mall at night. 2 hours to buy sneakers.!!!!!Sunsplash today-a water park.Overnight at Ft. Myers Beach this weekend. It's going by fast.Hardest part is when Jessica takes a shower-1 hour in the shower. No kidding.Funny story about the twins Ally.I did have empty nest syndrome but I had sold my house so that was part of it. I was fine when the 2 younger went off to school. Loved it.Nice to hear from you Happy. Have a great day.Mima It's cooler in Florida than at home but it does rain a lot.

Hurt this time and I had heat on it all night too. He gave me some Protonix for my tummy hope that helps too! All my bloodwork came back excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My bone density is even back to normal for my age! Told me I was in a good weight range(healthy) that I could lose 5 more or gain 15 and I would still be consider helathy weightwise! All this walking and gardening and eating better has really helped me!

Hey gals I wear baggy cause they are comfy..I can't stand tight cause it hurts my skin form the Fibro..don't any of you have that problem too? Would love to wear things that fit but it is not an option for me right now! I am wearing smaller things but still keep the big ones around. I like those one piece denim dresses cause they don't fit tight aroung your tummy and mine Hurts all the time.

Meme...what button for modem speed I can't find it and what is a tray? Duhhhhhhhhhhhhh. WE deleted the cookies so I had to log in here again but it seems to be runing faster..so all I have to do is slide that little thing to the left??????????? Then iIdon't have to delete the cookies? Netscape is not working right either! I use Netscape for everthing else.

Hi Toots, Joane and Miam:wave:

I'm taking a rest from gardening and you can see my elbow is wrapped!

Candice.......You look like a teenager in that pic. Isn't it nice to hear that you are in a healthy weight range? Good for you. My GP has a different weight scale. I can weigh 160 according to him and be fine and dandy. Yet, on that Metropolitan scale it is 140. ANd loose clothes? Mostly I think it IS for comfort. I do have some fitted things that I wear but can't wait to come home and peel them off and find my nice baggy sweats or pedal pushers.
But Happy....you are right. I know some plus size women who have to dress up for work and they wear form fitting suits and look just great. Other heavy women seem to buy "tents" and look even bigger.
'But those denim dresses, Candice???? I wear those instead of shorts. I hate having my shorts get all jammed in my flabby thighs and those denim dresses are so comfy.
Mima I heard about that virus at work so I am watching for it.
ANd Tootie...Did she post and I missed it????

Never heard of that before Anne...it's interesting, thought.

What is the name of the virus??? I got THREE e-mails called e-sheep from my former pastors sons and I had never got anything from him before so I thought it was weird. I opened the first one last night and it was a little sheep that ran around the screen...but what was so weird about it was that there was a document attachment, too and it said he was sending it for me to "help" him with it. It didn't DO anything to my computer that I know of but this morning there were TWO more so I got rid of all of them and then emptied all my trash. I forwarded it to hubby at work and asked him if it made any sense to him and he opened it and looked at it and said it didn't do anything to his computer either...that was before I got the other 2!

Candice...the "tray" area is just the little strip of gray either at the bottom or down the side of your screen where all the "icons" are...like your IE and Netscape...mail...sound...start button, etc. There should be a little icon (not a button) there that you can place your cursor arrow over and the speed that your internet connection is running at should pop up on the screen. And...if the slide that I mentioned before is all the way to the left it just means that your computer will not "remember" as many pages that you have been to so it won't take up as much disc space when you are surfing the net...but it may take longer to bring up pages you go back to! Love the pic!!!

Have any of you heard anything about aspartame affecting fibromyalgia, arthritis and muscle/joint pain (along with a myriad of other symptoms)?

Went fishing with hubby tonight...can't believe I actually got a night OFF! Moved my lessons to tomorrow night and got my mother-in-law to watch Jenna (Ross was visiting a friend) and met hubby at the lake and went out on the boat until after 8...I'm pooped! I caught a wal eye and a bass. It was fun but tiring.

Good morning from a 62 year old who went on the highest slide in the waterpark.Nervous about the height!!!My son carried up my 80 lb. grandaughter{spina bifida) one landing at a time. They are the greatest parents. They do everything with her. She also went on the go-carts with him. Anyhow, we ahad a fun day but I have to walk today to keep up my metabolism.Haven't been that good nor that bad. Had pulled chicken at the rib restaurant-was it deliscious!!!!Quiet day today I hope. Meme-fishing sounds like it would be relaxing.Boy-did I luck out with the weather. It's supposed to be drier this weekend and we might stay over at Ft. Myers beach.Have a great day everyone!!!Mima

Hello
I wear loose clothes around the house esp. in the summer as they are more comfortable and cooler. I can't stand the tied up feeling when it is so hot and humid. Now going out is another story. I won't bore you. I don't really care what anyone else thinks . They have to take me as I am. The clothes are not the important factors about a person.
Memetoo- I love going fishing too. We go out in the Gulf of Mexico. It is really relaxing. My son says that is his church. When he wants to plan a special project he goes fishing. He is a Design Architect.
Mima ,sure sounds like you are having a good time.
Candice - Hope things are looking up for you, I gained 1/2 lb this week. I was a little disappointed. The leader told me because I was so active ,I had to eat more. I am in the 20 -25 pts range she said I had to add 3 pts and eat my banked points this week to jump start myself. What do you think?Advice and hints needed.
A virus got into my sons computer at work and wouldn't you know it came to me. I opened it. I was a little nervous until he told me that the tech at the office told him it was just annoying and would not hurt anything. I don't usually open any fw. messages.
Hello Ally- Happy Canuk.I did have some unhappy feelings when my kids left the area to live and start their life. But I don't want them to move back in with me. My son did that after his marriage broke up. I have said never again. It is not easy to live with adult children. I was happy as a lark when he bought his own home.
You all have a great day...Joanne:wave:

Happy Canuk
07-27-2001, 12:34 PM
Joanne - if you are not eating enough, your body goes into a starvation mode and will keep you from losing weight. Also, if you have been more active than usual, you already know this I am sure, but muscle weighs more than fat. So perhaps you are a bit more muscular than you were. If your clothes are fitting better and you have not lost anything, then it is muscles being built.

Fishing - I don't like to do it. I am afraid of the bait and the fish if I ever caught one. I am actually very squimish around such things. My husband is not a fisherman either.

Mima - sounds like you are having a wonderful holiday. Good for your son, being so involved in his daughters life. Spina Bifida is not a nice thing to have. It is good they make her life as normal as it can be.

Candice - are you sure about your age? You look like a kid! Hope your arm is feeling better today. I could use a shot of something in the calf of my right leg. My knee was really sore last week and then the muscle in my leg started, like a deep charlie horse. Have been rubbing on an anti-inflammatory salve but so far it is not helping that much. It feels best when elevated, but can't lay around all day with my leg up in the air.

Meme - Glad you got some R&R. Way to go.

Ally - Hi. Is it still hot? We have had gloomy, rainy weather. Yesterday was the first nice day in a bit. Hope it continues. In another month, the leaves will start to change and all of a sudden you will know it is fall. Only 5 months till Christmas - now is that not depressing?

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

hi ladies, It looks like I have a new server, earthlink and mindspring is the unit that took over iopener.
Iopener is a simple intenet service and so I can continue along with this equipment for a while, till I have money for a computer.
Spent too much for my trip back to NY. I went to my log house in Cooperstown and then went to visit family in NYC/Queens NYC.Went to the Metropolitain Museum of fine arts and enjoyed it, even thopugh it cost $35.00 to park.

So, after a few days entertaining some folks,I found myself at odds with an old friend who wanted to stay as long as I would have her. That would have been okay with me,but since I don't sleep, I need TV or video/movie to keep me company.
The nights were long and cold, so we needed heat for the first week. My lady friend just started to mouth off about prayer being said at the dinner table;not needing heat{?}
yet putting on the electric portable heaters in the bathroom and a new one in her room. She took the Liberty to re- arrange the furniture in"her" room
I let it go, but when I saw all the extentions she had connected I tried to get her to change something and woe to me.
I thought we would burn up.????
BUT the day afte I came back, something happened to me that I would not wish on your worst enemy>
I was feeling poorly after the long drive and the long plane ride the same day. So, I was taking it easy and DILAw asks me to watch the 2 kids while she takes number 3 to the doctor.
So I went over an dfound myself hungry and took a small piece of pecorino margianna cheese which is aged.
Well, in a matter of 2/4 minutes I ghad hives all over and feet and hands swelled and the mouth!! So I called my son and said I need to go to the Doctor/emegenct room pronto.
He assumes that I'm just panicking. Not so, I found the hives in my throat and my voice was going. I also found myself passing out.Next thing I hear is someone gasping for air and asking for someone to help her breathe!!
When I found out it was me screeming, and gasping, I got scared.and passed out.
They gave me a steroid, nore=neperheperine and benydrill.
My son said I panicked.
I came close to buying the farm, I say.
Now I need to find out what caused it?
Well maybe I'm back and I will get to know all the new ladies.
Now if this is not a local number I will go banana's when I get the bill of 30 cents a minute.
To the ladies of old, thanks for remember
ing me in your posts and for the new ladies, Ill be glad to kow you.
By the way the legs hurt real bad above the knee and from the butt, thigh and calf of the leggs. Bur now that I'm on steroids. the pain is bareable.
This is telling me something!!
Bye ladies,
tootie

Tootie...It is so good to hear from you. And I am so sorry to hear about your cheese episode. Now, I mix things up that I read but just recently in a fibro book I read that we fibros should stay away from aged cheese and I can't remember why. I remember thinking...crap and that was going to be how I increased my protein. What did the Docs think? And just like I won't /don't want to live with my adult children...I don't like sharing space for too long with adult friends either. It is no wonder I could not stay married. Into about year 4 I could NOT STAND my beloved's teeth sucking, nail clipping or bad breath.

Meme...yes...that was the virus. It says I need your help or advice and there is an attachment. I got it at work and at home.

Happy.... I still have the music from your picture playing. You find such nice things. And that new supplement. I get so darned confused...... I have cut back on carbohydrates cause of too much insulin production. And then you read that and it says it is a lot like insulin and it helps us fibro people who don't have enough.
BUT...I lost 2 more pounds.
Joanne and Mima....howdy. Yes, Joanne...I had to move back home with my kids when we were waiting for the closing on a house. My poor mother and I were stepping on each other's toes all ove rthe place.

Happy Canuk- Now I am wondering if I should cut back on my exercise until I get these last 15 lbs off. If the exercise is making me maintain instead of losing which was one of my objects anyhow as well as reducing my colesterol. The leader at WW said no but, It seems to me that by adding points ,calories, I am defeating what I am trying to do. You are right It may be going to muscle although I don't see much more than flab.HA!
Tootie it sounds to me as if you went into anaphylactic shock, which is caused bt a protein substance that you are senitive to. It can be very dangerous. I am so glad it worked out in your favor. I agree you probably did about" buy the farm."
Ally , I have always said that if I was alone I would not want to live with either my son or daughter. They are wonderful ,and I love them as much as life ,but I feel it would not be fair for them or me.
I planted a plant today and worked outside till the thunder and my husband ran me in. I ache all over. So I didn't go for my walk today. I have done this so many years that I feel guilty when I miss doing it.
You all have a great evening:) Joanne

Hey Phyllis...so glad to have you back...and sooooo glad you didn't "buy the farm"! That must've been scary!

So...what exactly is this computer virus supposed to DO? So far it doesn't seem to have done anything to mine! Knock on wood!

Candice...how's the arm?

Joanne...exercise always made me gain weight at first, too. I don't have to worry about that anymore though because I can't do any now!

Anne...the fish won't hurt you...it's the bait that bites! I actually got bit by a "cricket" the other day!!! :dizzy: We were fishing with lures last night and since I can't get my hands around the fish hubby has to take them off the hook for me so I didn't have to "handle" anything! :D

Mima...I'm glad you are having a good Holiday!

As for living with someone else...I love being alone better than anything! Unless I was financially strapped or unable to care for myself I would never live with my kids. (Don't much like living with hubby a lot of the time but I need him!) And as for clothes...I wear what looks good on me as long as it is comfortable. I go for looks first but if it doesn't feel good, too, I don't buy it. Hubby says I wear a size 7 shoe but an 8 feels so good I buy a 9! He's close to being right, too! I hurt all over anyway...no sense in wearing clothes or shoes that make me feel worse!!!

Candicej
07-28-2001, 02:53 AM
With this arm so I don't have to go to a specialist cause I don't want to go to anymore doctors that are stupid about Fibro!

Joanne...you best keep up your activity and if it is not too much you should not have to add points, just make sure you eat your banked ones and then eat from the top of your points for a while! That is what I did and I have only gained once and then it was time to change ranges to get me going down again. We need to keep moving just for health reasons! i never had to up my points but some people do...I was always eating at my maxium to begin with.(that was the advice I got when I started)! Don't stop exercising!

Ally...Some Dh you had, bad breath, sucking his teeth, and nail clipping! It is confusing about all the information we get..I think we have to try stuff and just see what will work for us as an individual! Good job on the 2 pounds:)

Toots...glad you are ok and didn't bite the dust! How scarey:eek:

Mima..sounds like you are having a great time!

Anne..You are just full of useful information:smug: Now help me take my anxiety away!

Meme.....I understand and I did all that and it is running a little better now ..not freezing up so much! Thanks a bunch:D You are so smart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What does it mean when it says bytes recieved and bytes sent?(when you hold your mouse over the icon??????)

No rain yesterday-wow!!!!Eat out tonight-beach tomorrow-eat out Mon.-scary. But I'm going to walk and swim today-that will help-and I haven't eaten any desserts. Tootie-how scary. That's the reaction people get from bee stings. Also, I have Mindspring/earthlink and I really like it-I have a local number everywhere I travel. Last winter I installed it in the computer down here. Not usually any trouble logging on.As for metabolism and weight loss-I have a theory. Eat a lot for one day and your body will be fooled.Yo'll never hear that in WW. And muscle wears more. Just don't exercise the day before you weigh in.As for loose clothes-is there anything else. I ony like elastic waist shorts and jeans. But I like to wear my form fitting capris once in a while to see my weight loss-but they also are stretch.Hi to everyone.Mima

Here it is day two after the near death experience and I have to say, I'm sorry for having nothing better to post. Last year it was bleeding to the point I needed two blood transfusions and now this close call!
Itching still going on. Need to have an allergyst take a look at me. The internalist said, I'll recommend some one to you.
So big deal, I have to wait until they have an opening. The emergency room said I needed to see a doctor within two days.
I really think, not getting into see doctors right away is that, they do not want to work a full week!!
Especially if they are women! The women want to follow healthy patients maybe three days a week and if you can't get in, because you are sick, you get to see a PA.
The girls in the office said, the PA knows more than the Doctors!!!
I let my internist know that and she was horrified!.
"who said that?"
Women!! We/they want to be treated as equals to men, but don't want to scarifice their time with the "family".
Before I retired, I put in the time NY STate asked of me, even if it meant staying late and putting something together for the Gov. to use in a speech or meeting.
At the time, I thought I got paid very well, $53, thou.

Now all I want to do is stay alive to enjoy some retirement years. I think I need a new lease on life!
one that can be renewed every year with out the dramatic episodes.
Take care everyone. Fibro is just a small thing compared to the rest that can go wrong.

Tootie the complainer.Sorry.

Hi There
Thanks Candicej'' I will try it their way for awhile. I like to eat more anyhow!I won't go over though. It has not been the best for walking lately because of the rain. I have to vary my schedule. Oh Well ,I am retired and should not get too hung up on schedules .I worked outside again today but I don't count that. Or do I count house work.
Tootie, take care of yourself. I don't know where you are going to Dr's. I have been finding that the male s are more insensitive to a womans complaints than the female Dr's. UNLESS you are 25 and weigh 125lbs. There are a lot of retirees here. I think they judge us all the same. The Dr. I have now is a dragon.
Hello Mima-Mimetoo Happy Canuk...Hope your day is going good. :)

Tootie - It is SOOOO nice to have you back with us. I really missed you. That was to close a call. Do you think someone is trying to tell you something? I just wish you could get to feeling better. What you said about female Drs., is probably right. The female lawyers are the same (the married ones, or the ones with children) They want to do both, and it is very hard, as you know. One end of the scale has to suffer and I guess if it was me, I would have to let it be my career.

Joanne - By all means keep exercising. Muscles weighs more than fat, so don't get hung up on the numbers. Muscle is a much better thing to have hanging around:lol: Just eat at the top of your scale and you should do fine. My daughter has lost 60 pounds and has been running and weight lifting. Her friend lost the same, weighs less, but is wearing a bigger size, so I guess it works. I am really proud of these two girls for their determination. I used to be like that myself. Set my mind to something and nothing could move me until I finished. Oh well, times change.

Meme - good for you, having someone else do the dirty work for you. See sometimes, it pays to hurt:)

Ally - congrats on the weight loss. I am making muffins right now, and if they are good (never made them before) I will pass the recipe on to you. Has everything in them, and only 68 calories per muffin.

Candice - hope your arm is feeling better. I can't find that icon that Meme was talking about. What does it look like? If I can't find the icon, where else can I check?

Mima - keep having a good holiday. Nice to have a laptop along with you.

Everyone have a good day. I will, now that I know tootie is ok.

Tootie...Go ahead and complain. You got dealt a nasty hand and you gotta vent sometimes.
My 79 year old aunt called today...she was talking about other things and then said she has a cancerous tumor on her kidney. She likes the Doc's option that they leave it alone. I was all upset telling her to have one kidney removed. She is my mother's older sister and my mother died 8 years ago. She said that she never expected to live this long...feels bad two younger siblings died before her. Said that she will just let nature take its course. She was so upbeat and positive. That is all I have thought about today. Tried to contact my cousins (her daughters) to see if we can talk "sense" into her....and I realize that that may be sense to her.
I didn't bother talking about my weight........just like Tootie I know things could be worse.
Going bargain hunting tomorrow girls.
Hardly cheated at all this weekend......

I just got back from my walk to the beach,3.5 miles, and feel great. I think I am going to have to buy some new shoes to walk in though. I wear out at least 2 pair a year. My feet hurt. I like the running shoes as they give me more sole.
Ally ,sorry to hear about your aunt.I think sometimes these elder people know when they want to go home. Maybe it has developed to a stage that has metastasized and that is why the dr. has given her the option to let nature take it's course.
Tootie complain all you want. If your son doesn't like it let him know you listened to a little bit from him while he was growing up. Strange how things change in life. Now it is our sons turn to help us.
Thanks for the advice Happy Canuk and Candicej. I started wearing some one pound wrist wts around the house in the mornings. I also did some stretches on the floor. Not easy getting up and down. I will sleep with"old faithful" tonight. My hot pad.
Hey Mime. Florida treated you good ,I hope. You had some good weather and beach time. Take home some good memories.

Candicej, I have severe ostoarthritis. Yes I have been pretty active except for a few years when I had some problems health wise. About 6-7 years ago I decided that I was going to work on getting healthy and to heck with the pain. I don't like to give in to anything. I was a actively working nurse for 37 years so I researched till I started to find a solution to my life. Being active is the only way to live with this arthritis. I still have some work to do on my confidence.
Mima don't worry about the scale till you get home. Then face the music. When I go on a binge I say I won't get on it the next day. Then I have to the next.
See you all later...Joanne:)

Hey Guys. Have you ever HAD to cheat on your diet in a restaurant cause there is nothing that fits?
My son wanted to eat at Friendlys as you got a free Sundae with a burger. Years ago they had big salads with chicken or shrimp in them so I said, fine.
Well...no big salads. I got a small salad and some chicken quesquidillas. Yucko. Fried old piece of tortilla and some cheese and onions, and a taste of cheese. I ate them all but knew it was cheating and then was angry cause if I was gonna cheat I would have had the burger and sundae my son had.
I wish food didn't mean this much to me.
Joanne.....a nurse. WoW. I had to sit with my son in the hospital for three days in April and everyone of those nurses was a true sweetheart. I had felt bad leaving my son at nite, but not with those nurses there...
But that is a real Giver kind of profession. I would not be able to handle tragedy. How did you deal with it???

Hope you are all doing well today. Me, I am sick and tired of the rain. I would like to have some summer! Boy I tell you, once the tap got turned on they forgot how to shut it off. Anyway, me, I am fine. Back is a little stiff today because of the dampness, but the FM is doing well. Actually, my back is doing well - not really painful, just stiff.

Here is a muffin recipe for you and it is really good - even healthy.

Bran Flax Muffins

1 1/2 c Flour (I use whole wheat)
3/4 cup Flaxseed meal
3/4 cup Bran
1 c Brown sugar
2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. Cinnamon
1 1/2 c finely grated carrots
2 peeled and shredded apples
1/2 raisins if desired
3/4 c milk
2 beaten eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp. Vegetable oil

Mix together flour, flaxseed meal, bran, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon in a large bowl. STIR in carrots, apples and raisins. COMBINE: milk, beaten eggs, vanilla and oil. Pour liquid ingredients into dry ingredients. STIR until ingredients are moistened. DO NOT OVER MIX. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 min. Makes 15 med. muffins.

Baking tips for flaxseed meal.

Ground flaxseed can be substituted for shortening or cooking oil at a ratio of 3 to 1 in baked goods. For example 1 1/2 C of ground flaxseed can replace 1/2c butter, margarine or cooking oil in a recipe.

Baked goods substituting flaxseed meel for cooking oil tend to brown more rapidly.

This is using an Omega 3 Essential Oil .

I am posting an article on FM. All of know most of it if not all of it, but you never know when you pick up one little thing to add to your knowledge. I will put it in the next post and it is long Candice.

Mima - I am so glad you are having good weather and a nice holiday. Just enjoy it and get back on track when you get home.

Candice - I don't have those little computers since I went on cable. Where the heck is Meme anyway? Has she deserted us? I haven't heard from here since just after she went fishing. Hope your arm is feeling better - best just to let it rest for a bit.

Joanne - a nurse were you? I think lots of nurses have FM for some reason or other. Stress maybe? Good to see you sticking on your diet and being active. That is the best way - the weight will fall off, because muscle burns calories faster.

Ally - I love Quesdillas(?) but have never had them fried. They always bake them on a grill without fat. What do Canuks know about Mexican food anyway - just that we like what we can get.

I am sorry to hear about your aunt, but she probably knows what she wants to do at her age. Surgery would be very hard on her.

Tootie - I get the warm fuzzies just thinking that you are back. You always put a laugh into my day. Not that your allergic reaction was funny - it's just the way you write. I sure hope you are feeling better now. Take care.

FIBROMYALGIA SYNDROME

This is taken from a book called PRESCRIPTION FOR NUTRITIONAL HEALING. We seem to have a lot a newly diagnosed people on Clouds and I thought this might be of some interest to you - just so you have an idea of where to begin. Sorry for any typos.

Fibromyalgia is a rheumatic disorder characterized by chronic achy muscular pain that has no obvious physical cause. It most commonly affects the lower back, the neck, the shoulders, the back of the head, the upper chest, and/or the thighs, although any area or areas of the body may be involved. The pain is usually described as burning, throbbing, shooting, and stabbing. The pain and stiffness is often greater in the morning than at other times of day, and it may be accompanied by chronic headaches, strange sensations in the skin, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome and temporomandibular joints syndrome (TMJ). Other symptoms often experienced by people with FM include premenstrual syndrome, painful periods, anxiety, palpitations, memory impairment, irritable bladder, skin sensitivities dry eyes and mouth, a need for frequent changes in eyeglass prescription, dizziness, and impaired coordination. Such activities as lifting and climbing stairs are often very difficult and painful. Depression is frequently part of the picture as well. The most distinctive feature of FM, however, is the existence of certain “tender points” - nine pairs of specific spots where the muscles are abnormally tender to the touch.

Most people with FM also have an associated sleep disorder known as alpha-EEG anomaly. In this disorder, the individual’s deep sleep periods are interrupted by bouts of waking-type brain activity, resulting in poor sleep. Some people with FM are plagued by other sleep disorders as well, such as sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, bruxism and sleep myoclonus (a sudden rapid contraction of a muscle or a group of muscles during sleep or as one is falling asleep). Not surprisingly, given all these sleep difficulties, people with FM often suffer from chronic fatigue that can range from mild to incapacitating.

This disorder is much more common in females than in males, and most often begins in young adulthood. In most cases, symptoms come on gradually and slowly increase in intensity. They can be triggered (or made worse) by a number of different factors, including overexertion, stress, lack of exercise, anxiety, depression, lack of sleep, trauma, extremes of temperatures and/or humidity, and infectious illness. In the majority of cases, symptoms are severe enough to interfere with normal daily activities; a significant number of people with FM are actually disabled by the condition. The course of the disorder is unpredictable. Some cases clear up on their own, some become chronic, and some go through cycles of flare-ups alternating with periods of apparent remission.

The cause or causes of FM are not known. Some evidence points to a problem with the immune system; certain immunologic abnormalities are common among people with FM. Their significance and relationship to the syndrome are not understood, however. A disturbance in brain chemistry may also be involved; many people who develop FM have a history of clinical depression. Other possible causes that have been proposed include infection with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), the virus that causes infectious mononucleosis, or with the fungus Candida Albicans; chronic mercury poisoning from amalgam dental fillings; anemia; parasites; hypoglycemia; and hypothyroidism. Some experts believe the FM may be related to CFS, which causes similar symptoms, except that in FM, muscle pain predominates over fatigue, whereas in CFS, fatigue predominates over pain.

Because malabsorption problems are common in people with this disorder, higher than normal doses of all supplemental nutrients are needed. Wherever possible, it is best to use sublingual vitamins and other supplements because they are more easily absorbed than tablets or capsules.

Nutrients that are essential:

Coenzyme Q10 75mg daily Improves oxygenation of tissues, enhances the effetivness
of the immune system, and protects the heart.

Acidophilus As directed Candida infection is common in people with FM.
On label Acidophilus replaces “friendly” bacteria destroyed by
Candida. Use a nondairy formula.

Lecithin As directed Promotes energy ,enhances immunity, aids in brain
On label with Function, and improves circulation.
Meals

Malic acid As directed Involved in energy production in many cells of the body,
On label Including the muscles cells. Needed for sugar metabolism.

Proteolytic As directed Reduces inflammation and improves absorption of foods,
enzymes 6 times daily Especially protein, which is needed for tissue repair.
With meals,
Between meals
At bedtime

Manganese 5 mg daily. Influences the metabolic rate by its involvement in the
Separate from Pituitary-hypothalamic-thyroid axis.
Calcium

Vitamin A 25,000IU daily Powerful free radical scavengers that protect the body’s
1 month, then cells and enhance immune function. Use emulsion forms
Reduce to For easier assimilation.
10,000IU daily.
Vitamin E 800 IU daily for
1 month, then
Slowly reduce
To 400IU daily.

Or

ACES + zinc As directed on Contain vitamins A,C,E plus minerals selenium and zinc,
label To protect immune function.

Vitamin C 5000-10,000 mg Has a powerful antiviral effect and increases the body’s
Daily Energy level. Use a buffered form.

Recommendations:

Eat a well-balanced diet of 50% raw foods and fresh “live juices” The diet should consist mostly of vegetables, fruits, whole grains(primarily millet and brown rice) , raw nuts and seeds, skinless turkey or chicken, and deepwater fish. These quality foods supply nutrients that renew energy and build immunity.

Eat four to five small meals daily to keep a steady supply of protein and carbs available for proper muscles function. If the body does not have enough fuel for energy, it will rob the muscles of essential nutrients, causing muscles wasting and pain.

Drink Plenty of liquids to help flush out toxins.

Do not eat meat, dairy products, or any other foods that are high in saturated fats. Saturated fats raise cholesterol levels and interfere with circulation. They also promote the inflammatory response and increase pain. Also avoid fried foods, processed foods, shellfish and white flour products such as bread and pasta.

Do not consume any caffeine, alcohol, or sugar. Eating sugar in any form - including fructose and honey, promotes fatigue, increases pain, and disturbs sleep. If these substances have been a regular part of your diet, your symptoms may actually get worse for a short period as a result of the “withdrawal” effect, but after that, you should experience a noticeable improvement in your condition.

Maintain a regular program of moderate exercise. A daily walk followed by some gentle stretching exercises is good. If you have been sedentary before, start slowly and be careful not to overexert yourself; this can aggravate symptoms. Keep in mind that what you need is some amount of daily exercise, NOT a strenuous workout two or three times a week. Once your body is accustomed to regular exercise, symptoms are likely to improve.

Be sure to give your body sufficient rest. Set aside at LEAST 8 hours for sleep each night.

Take a hot shower or bath upon rising to stimulate circulation and help relieve morning stiffness. Or alternate between hot water and cold water while showering. Recent studies have shown cold showers to be beneficial for relieving the pain of FM.

Take chlorophyll in tablet form or in “green drinks” such as Kyo-Green. Spiru-tein from Nature’s Plus is a good protein drink to use between meals to aid in maintaining energy levels and to reduce muscle pain.

Considerations:

Chronic pain sufferers, especially those with FM and CFS, tend to be deficient in magnesium.

Recent research points to the possible involvement of chemical and/or food sensitivities in FM, CFS, and the pain associated with these disorders. This would hardly be surprising, as humans have been exposed to more chemicals in the last 50 years than in all the rest of our history combined.

Because malabsorption problems are common in this disorder, all nutrients are needed in greater than normal amounts, and a proper diet is essential. Colon cleansing is recommended to rid the gastointestinal tract of mucus and debris, and so improve nutrient absorption.

Many Doctors prescribe low-dose antidepressants for FM. These drugs can be beneficial in some cases, but can also cause a number of side effects, such as drowsiness. Other medical treatments that may or may not be of help to any given individual include muscle relaxants and /or local anesthetic sprays or injections for relief of pain. The antianxiety drug Lorazepam (Ativan) is sometime prescribed as well. This drug can cause of loss of equilibrium.

Physical therapy, relaxation techniques, exercise therapy, massage therapy, deep heat therapy, and biofeedback are all helpful in some cases. Massage therapy is particularly beneficial for improved muscle function and pain relief. If you are diagnosed with FM, it is wise to seek out a health care provider who has specific experience in the management and treatment of this condition.

I'M STILL HERE!!!!!!!

Boy Joanne...sounds like you are doing everything right! I'm not that dedicated but I'm trying really hard to be better! I lost 2 more pounds last week...that makes 7 now. Just 43 more to go!
:dizzy:

Mima...now you will have to go home and rest from your vacation. At least you had a break from everyday life and had some fun.

Tootie...I have missed you so! :)

Anne...that was a lot of info! Thanks...interesting reading. If you have a cable modem you don't have an icon telling you what speed you are running at...if your computer has a 56K modem that IS the speed you are running.

Candice...the bytes received is the "speed" your phone modem is running. When I was on a phone line mine only ran at around 28000 on good days and only 14000 on others. That's why I went to a cable modem...the phone wires here are nickle and nickle won't carry connections very fast. Your computer has a 56K modem, meaning it can receive 56000 bytes, which is super fast but if the phone co. is only SENDING you 28K then your internet connection is so slow that it takes forever to pull up a page and especially if the page has graphics on it. Most phone companies can't send over 32000 bytes. Won't bore you all with any more 'puter jargon!!! :dz:

Speaking of jargon...I'm taking a design course and it is getting hairy! I just took my second test...got the results back yesterday...only missed one out of 33 problems. I had to acutally build a web page for one of the problems with a bunch of specific stuff on it that they wanted. It took me forever! The one I missed...I type the word "center" instead of "left" in one place and they marked the whole problem wrong! Today I learned how to make a transparent gif. If you don't already know, that is when you take the background away from a picture (clipart). It has to be a solid color background or it won't work (unless you have a steady hand and can actually "cut out" the part you want to use!) You have all seen those neat little pictures on the web...some have background colors and some don't...well I learned how to get rid of the background colors. The next lesson teaches how to make "animated" gifs...I can't wait to learn how to make pictures move!!!

It has been raining here a lot, too but is supposed to be dry and HOT the rest of the week. Anne...I'd LOVE to send you some "summer"...It is supposed to be in the mid 90s here the next 5 days!

There is some weird program on TV where some "hands" are growing in a bed of "ice"! YUCK! Oh gross...now there is a man laying in bed covered with huge polyps that are "pulsing"! Gotta turn this thing off...it's making me sick!!!

Hi there-Meme-you are unbelievable. think I am ok with coputers but I sure can't dothat stuff. I need to begin my geneology firts but it's great to do something new-prevents Alzeimers. That's why I play freecell all the time. HAHA.Last day-we have had a good time-back to reality and DIeting tomorrow.Sorry about the rain, Anne-it's moving back in here but I won't be here. Yesterday my son's house finally went through so I may actually know where to rent for the winter. I may stay for 3 months if I can figure out the money. If I sub 2 days a week-I could save .We'll see.I saw something on the Today show about eating-The guy that wrote Eat Drink and be Merry or something like that. He talked about good oils-complex carbs-no red meat and exercise. I agree that exercise through the pain is ok. I always feel mentally better but I have to know my limitations.I don't think water aerobics is good for me but swimming is.Walking but not fast-Tai Chi but not Yoga. But I can't walk today cuz it's too hot here.Maybe I'll walk at the airport.Kids are going to see N/Sync tonight but Jessic and I are going home. I will write from cool MA. tomorrow. Mima

Good Morning All!
This is a great forum.. i have NEVER seen one before - i was overjoyed!

I am a 30 year who has had Fibro since i was 13 -- i was diagnosed when i was 23 after many years of "there is nothing wrong with you" dr's visits. My mother and Mother-in-law both have Fibro also.

I live in Whitby Ontario..Canada.. a small town about 20 min (w/o traffic :) ) east of toronto.

While i was a petit child - and teenager (5.1", and 110 lbs max)..I have been overweight for about 10 years. Seems to have started from a short term stress issue at about 17.. (i had no appetite- so barely ate anything but lunch for about a year)... the issue dissappeared on its own.. but even though i am not a big eater i continue to gain.

The pain of fibro keeps me from exercising.... What i would like to do is lose about 40-50 lbs b4 i begin an exercise routine.. to keep that pain down.. - I am an unfortunate 230 now - which on my 5.1" frame - and small boned - is not very appealing.

I do walk about 1/2 hour a day (back and forth to my train to work) minimum.

I am an extremely picky eater... due to side issues with Fibro, i am not allowed to have any high fibre foods.. or vegetables - except the occasional salad. I am also borderline diabetic.. (occasional High sugars, with relatives who have type 2 already.. and a mother who was gestestional diabetic while carrying me..) I dont take any medication (i would rather not) except the occasional tylenol type.

Does any one have any ideas on how i can lose some weight to become more healthy? (I really would like to stop shopping at cotton ginny plus and penningtons)

I am interested in a lifetime change - not a diet.. (i prefer not to yoyo - my metobolism is messed up enough.. :) )

Thanks very much!

Hope your days are all great!
:D

Memetoo- You are so computer smart! I can barely find my way around this thing. My son and daughter are very smart kids ,but they are very busy and have no time to help me much. They have very busy lives. I usually can find what I want to ,it just takes me a while.
Ally,Happy Canuk- I went into nursing when I got out of high school and was wondering what I was going to do with my life. I wanted to get away from home and the unhappiness I had. I was given the chance by one of my teachers to move into the nurses residence while I was in school and I snapped it up. I never looked back . Nursing is a really hard field. It takes a lot out of a person. I worked my last 15 years in a nursing home. I was pretty burned out when I had to go for knee replacement and the Dr. and my kids said "your working days are over". I have enjoyed every minute of my retirement although I think I am more active now than I was when I worked.I have been really trying to get myself healthy ever since.
Mima- Hope you had a safe trip home.
Hey Candice...I love your pictures and flowers. I wish I had my yard in as good a shape. I am working on it.
Ciara- Get yourself into a really good program like Weight Watchers and comment yourself to taking care of yourself. It is not a easy task but it can be done. You are young . You need a healthy eating and exercise program. The major exercise I am able to do is walking. I started out with a half mile and weekly added to that distance till I am now able to walk 4+ miles with ease. I am more than twice your age.You can do it. You will find that a lot of your health problems will fade into the back of your mind ,when you begin to think in a positive way about yourself. By the way.. WELCOME. We are a pretty good group and these ladies will not coddle you ,but will help you and be a good computer friend to you. At least that is what I have found.
Bye Guys...Got to get my breakfast dishes washed... It is getting late morning. I have a hair appointment and then I am going to color my hair a different color of blond. Do you think I will have more fun??;) Joanne:angel:

Hello Ciara, fellow Canadian. I live in Alberta. Not particularly a nice way to meet, but nevertheless, if not for FM, I would not have met these great people - I enjoy each and every one of them. I hope you stay around and join us. We are talking about diets once in awhile by the way.

Meme - great work. There is no stopping you. You just keep going and going and going - just like the energizer bunny:lol: Glad to see you advancing so rapidly. I am sure that you will enjoy this. Some of my ladies from Clouds have gotten into animations and are really having fun with it. One day I might try it. Who knows! What program do you use?

Mima - to bad holidays are almost over, but it sounds like you have been having a wonderful time. That is the important thing. Back to the grind (diet, exercise) next week.

Joanne - Hope you are keeping well and I presume you are back on track and doing well again. I will be now that I am off all meds. (except estrogen which causes one to gain weight).

Candice and Ally have a nice weekend.

Tootie - hope you are feeling a WHOLE lot better now. Have a good weekend.

Thanks for the welcome all!...

In regards to Weight Watchers... my mother tried that once - did not work for her (and we have the same body..;) )... Unfortunately, i dont have the funds for that sort of thing.

The walking is a good idea.. i had managed up to an hour a day about 2 years ago - i did for almost a year - with NO lost wieght.. very discouraging.. Unfortunately, my knees are toasted from an injury in high school... and time is a big issue to...i really only have about a half hour a day that is not taken by work or travel to work..

Any other ideas?

Umm..Ms Canuk - isn't this a dieting website? Maybe i misunderstood the forum... Should i be posting elsewhere for this advice? :)

Thanks

Ciara, of course this is the right place to obtain the info. you need. We just have gotten into talking about other things as well, as you will see.

Now, if WW doesn't work for you, there are the 40-30-30 diets. That is 40 percent carbs, 30 percent protein and 30 percent fat. The Zone is one of these and The Formula is the other. I was on the Formula and have great success and then life intervened and threw me off - I am trying desparatley to get back on it.

Golly Memetoo ,you are really getting into this course. Thanks for the hello . My son does things like this ,he designs banks and homes and then makes a computer video to show his clients. I was amazed the first time he showed one to me.
Happy Canuk- I am trying to stay on track. I haven't cheated this week. Tomorrow will tell the story. If I have lost anything my scales are not showing it. WW scales are always 1-2 lbs higher than mine.
Hello Candicej and Mime..
Ciara- You can get a lot of good information at your local library. At one time you could get a WW cookbook with the diets in them . I bet that most of the other books on good eating and weight control would have the diet plans in them. You just need to find the one that will work for you. Or you could make up your own. Cut your food intake to half,Limit your starches and protiens, eat more veggies and fruit. I'm no expert,it took me almost 30 years to get my act together and lose some wt. I still struggle every day with it. This is a lifetime thing. There is no quick fix. We all wish that would be the solution.
Hi Tootie.. How are you?
You all have a great day.. Looks like we may have some rain today...I will have to walk on the beast. I do enjoy walking outside to the beach.. The water is very calming....Joanne

Hi everyone-got home at 2 am. because the plane was 2 hours late but they did give me a free glass of wine. I've only had oatmeal and 2 cups of coffee today and I'm not getting on the scale. Welcome Ciara!!!This is a great message board and we talk about everything-fibro-diets-what's good for your body-stress levels!!!Myself, I love Weight Watchers. It costs me !0$ a week-probably save that in food. Sometimes we have to make it a priority. In the US there are some insurances that pay for it but not mine.Definitely low fat helps -eliminate the bad fats. I'm sur you will find something. We all are doing something different. We had fun at the airport-played Millionaire on my laptop-walked-got Ben and Jerry's ice cream-I've already had one nap today. Meme-I'm so impressed with your computer skills!!!!The weather here is perfect today-no humidity. My grandaughter went to see N'Sync last night in Tampa. I can't wait to hear from her. The other will probably sleep past noon. It's good to be home-I hear it's going to rain in FL. and my son has to get ready to move. Shucks-I'll have to miss that. Be good everyone!!!Mima

THANK you Happy Anne for all the typing you do. Ironcially, someone sent that very passage to me. The book is by Balch, right????
Now, Have you read What your Doctor may NOT tell you about Fibromyalgia?

Don't know if I can type it, but the hypoglycemia part opened my eyes. All the BAD foods were what I was eating high fiber....

It is 91 degrees today. Yuck.

Sugarbusters is not for everyone, but would not hurt anyone!!!!!!!

No white flour,no corn/ flour, no white potatoes, no hydrogenated anything, real butter, real SGWW bread, SGWW pasta, no sugar, no insulin push. Low sugar fruit,no sugar added ice cream{mmmm}a touch of chocolat sometimes, steak, sweet potatoes, salad tomatoes, SGWW pizza, cheese, turkey, chicken, lamb chops. lean burgers, chicken salad, no sugar sugarbusters dressings, extra virgin Olive oil, beans lentiles, barley, baby spinach soup.

I just wanted to share this with you. I have put this website here before, but this time I want to tell you something. I have been taking this product non-stop since the first of June. About 3 weeks ago I noticed a feeling of complete wellness. I have not FELT this good in years. I have not had to take Elavil at night to sleep, nor have I had to take Ranitidine for the hiatal hernia. Now, I decided to do a little test to see if this really works. I had finished the last of this product on Friday - since them I have been getting progressivley more tired; I have had more pain and stiffness and have not been sleeping so good. Had to take and Ativan last night for sleep and pain; Have also started to experience heartburn again and had to take a Ranitidine. I have placed an order today and should get the product by Monday. I now know how well it works. It is amazing and it is the ONLY thing you will have to take - It is a complete food - not a pill - it comes in a powder and you mix 1 tsp. with juice or water. I never really said anything about it, because I wasn't sure if it was this as well as the Upper Cervical treatments (that is what happens when you do a couple of things at once); both have helped and I am so thankful. I will never have painless days, but I have been experiencing lesspain days and that feeling of wellness, calmness - It is a wonderful feeling to feel like this again.

The website is http://www.supernatural.com/Products/AntiAging/Spectra12Intro.asp

You really should do yourselves a favor and go in and read about it. It contains every vitamin, mineral, probiotic (for digestive problems)essential fatty acids. 1 tsp a day, and you know that you have met all the daily requirements for everything your body needs.

Hope you read it and let me know what you think. I can only speak for me, and I know this has helped me out a great deal.

Don't know where you can order it in the US, but by ordering it in Canada, you will save money with the way our dollar is in the basement. They have a great summer special on right now as well. I just ordered that one for me.

Hi Happy Canuk!

Thanks for the tip.... i was reading their website.. its pretty costly - but if it does what you say its worth it..!! :)

Can i ask you - what size is a bottle - and how long does it last - the web site doesnt really state this- i did notice there is a special on for summer - 5 bottles for 138 cdn... (28 a bottle)...

out of curiousity is it helping also with weight? (since it helps absorb more nutrients)... or just general well being?

I was looking recently in to the supplements that raise seretonin... studies are increasingly showing that Fibro's are low in this - and it may be the cause of Fibro or CFS..

5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) (http://healthgate.nbci.com/getcontent.asp?siteid=NBCi&docid=/imcaccess/ConsSupplements/5Hydroxytryptophan5HTPcs)

Fibromyalgia Treatment and Help (http://healthgate.nbci.com/getcontent.asp?siteid=NBCi&docid=/imcaccess/ConsConditions/Fibromyalgiacc)

Thanks very much. I really am interested in supplements that will help- but that are also safe.. you hear soo many times now on 60 minutes or W5 etc about those 'dangerous' herbs. I have been more interested in the last couple years - since the DR prescribed stuph just makes me worse - or no change (ie elavil, anti-reflux drugs, etc) - to the point where i have slowly come off all of them.

Happy Thursday!

Good afternoon Ciara. Each bottle lasts for 1 month if you take 1 tsp. a day. Sometime with FM you can take 1 1/2 tsp. for the first couple of weeks. I never did - just took the l tsp. daily. You get a great feeling of calmness and wellbeing from having everything in balance. Both my husband and myself have been taking it. It also helps with IBS, and because the product is predigested there is not stomach problems at all. I have taken spirila before and had a terrible experience.

The 5HTP we have been there, done that. I think Ally might still take it, I don't know if Meme still does or not. I want something that will build up my whole immune system and the above is it. It is a food, organically grown products are only used . I can't say enough about the feeling of wellness. That has been years since I felt like this. I am going to start to inquire about getting a part time job as I am feeling so well, and I haven't been able to work for the past 6 years. Must be good stuff to motivate me to do that:lol:

The air here is unhealthy so I have my air on today. It will get cooler tomorrow I hear.I can't believe it-I didn't gain any weight in Florida. Maybe it's about a body in motion stays in motion. And I did walk and swim.I went shopping yesterday and got food I can eat.I'm having company tonight but we'll cancel that meal tomorrow. I'm going to look for Spectra 12 in the stores. It does sound good-especially since I have a lot of trouble with yeast-from Prednisone I guess. Thanks again Anne. I too try too many things at the same time.My grandaughter is leaving tonight-she has been so good. I bought her a kit to make a picture of a cat and she puts my stitching to shame. I am working on a beautiful crossstitch to give my hairdresser when she gets married but the back is messy-the front is beautiful-I'll have to hide the back really good. Gotta go to the chiro at 9-have a good day everyone. Mima

Mima, I don't believe Spectra 12 is sold in the stores. You have to order it online or find someone who sells it. It really is a great product. I have tried so many things, but this one really works. Anything that can get that total exhaustion away, get me off the anitdepressant and the Ranitidine and give me a complete feeling of calmness and wellness has be better than good. I passed this along because I feel it is important to help one another when we find something that works. This is a total food(all organic vegetarian). I was on the site again yesterday just reading. I keep finding all sorts of new info. still. It tells exactly what it contains. You do not need to take any other supplements when you take this, unless you take MSM, Glucosomine, 5HTP etc. Otherwise, this is a complete food and provides all the vitamins, minerals, balanced omega3-6, balanced potassium, magneseum and all 12 probiotics which help with the yeast problems.

Hi Guys.....
That book about what your Doc didn't tell you about fibro is really about the use of guaifensin (sp) for treatment. And it is the second book that talks about it like it is THE answer that I have read so I was thinking about it.
But I might look into what you are doing Happy. This guaifensin is supposed to make you feel worse before you feel better. I skimmed a bit of the specifics, but it seems as if the theory is about the amount of toxins in our systems and how they attack cells around the muscles because they are vulnerable. So you take this stuff and really, really hurt as this stuff passes thru your system.
I am tapering off 5-HTP to try something. Ciara....5-HTP may be just like those SSRI anti-depressants. Serotonin works miracles for a while then poops out. YOu should take breaks from it. But I'm not saying not to try it.....it did do well while it was working.
But the other part of this book was about how more than half of the women suffering from fibro also have hypoglycemia. You can go have a fasting blood sugar level done OR you can pretty much cut most carbs out of your diet for a couple of weeks and see if you feel better. The diet in the book is somewhat like the Adkins diet. No bread, pasta, potatoes...a variety of greens and raw veggies, and meat to your hearts content.
I have lost 5 lbs so far, but I am not dieting like I did in the old days. I can't starve. I do salads with olive oil and chicken or fish. Tonight I am throwing caution to the wind and going for red meat.... a nice steak.
I had been buying this very expensive health food fiber or flaxseed cereal and I tell you my stomach would scream til I ate something at work. I have eaten cottage cheese or an egg this week, and I don't have that terrible gnawing.
I have cut out night time snacking too...except I was hunting down cheese last nite cause it is too hot to be good.
I know based on two weeks of cutting carbs that they are the culprit. I was eating beans and lentils like crazy and then found they are on the BAD list as far as carbs. Some fruits too. Bananas. I ate one with my healthy cereal.
Soooooooooooo......blame this darned disorder, but it seems that many of us ladies can't handle our favorite foods.

Hello everyone-talk about not being able to eat our favorite foods-I have an earache from wheat-company last night=it makes my sinuses swell.Gotta get some hot and sour soup.My grandaughter has gone-I have rented a condo in FL. for the winter and wiped out my stash with the down payment-time to look at buying.Or renting year round. Now I will go to work part time -it will keep me out of trouble.Probably substituting.I totally agreee we should help each other with what works. That guaf. treatment is in my fibro book-I have yet to stay on it. I have to take my 2 weeks of osteoporosis med. so I can't do anything else because that might make me nauseous.SP.?Hot and muggy again so I'll use my air again.I'm going to take a Tai Chi video out of the library.I saw a reprt on the news that that is muscle building.I probably will go dancing tonight. I bought a new skirt and it is a small and it fits me.Ally-you sure are doing well-congrats on your weight loss and perserverance.I am going back to the Spectra web-site and read more. Have a good day everyone-stay cool or dry depending on where you are. Mima

Hi Ciara and yes you are in the right place! WELCOME:) I am doing WW and only 1 pound form last goal and it has been pretty easy so far. If you just watch what you eat, keep a food journal so you can keep tack of what you are eating, that has helped me more than anything!

Aly, Never knew HIgh Fiber foods could cause problems!

Mima, Joanne, and toots hello!

Happy Canuk- We will have to call you our favorite researsh person. You find such informative information. . I like your image Candice. I sometimes feel like that. I always seem to have a load of clothes waiting on me to do. And there is only two of us here. Ofcourse I end up taking a couple loads of my sons to do as he doesn't have a washer and no extra time to go to the laundry mat.I wish he would get a wife.
Mima -so you are going to become a Florida Cracker! I am cracker all the way through. Most people who come down for a vacation get hooked. My sister has been up in N.Y. for over 30 yrs. She bought a place last year about two miles from me. I think she may decide to stay year round. I hope so.
Hello Memetoo- Tootie -Ally I hope everyone has a great weekend...:) Joanne:wave:

Mima...Did you try the Guafensisn? Does a Doc have to prescribe it or can you get it on the internet. Don't know if I will do it yet...still thinking about it.
And Florida.....I am rethinking my desire for warm weather. This heat has killed me this summer. I don't sweat. Never have. My mother didn't either til she went thru menopause. This must be hormonal. So, when I go outside in this hot weather I get sick.
HappyAnnne...I checked out clouds for the 1st time in Months. I thought I would see if anyone else has dome this Guaifenesin (which I spell different everyotime I type it). I saw your little pic and realize you look exactly like my favorite cousin Barb....
Have a nice weekend all...I am going to go read and eat my 10 almonds for the day...

I also forget how to spell it.Haven't tried it yet but I just bought a bottle of cough syrup-expectorant-that is guaf. Only problem is the sugar. I think you are supposed to take 300mg. a day but you can't use products like aspirin and aloe an other ingredients because it interferes with the process. Going dancing tonight-just ate salmon-brown rice -and stringbeans.Mima
