View Full Version : Halfway through January, already - how are things?
LindaT 01-16-2006, 01:16 PM It was great to see everyone's losses on the first week, but let's also concentrate this week on some NSV - Non Scale Victories. Losses are wonderful, but they aren't the only reason we should be eating healthfully.
What other changes have you noticed since you've been following the Sonoma plan? How is your energy level? Any differences in your hair, skin? How are your moods? These are just examples of things that can and will be changing the longer you go.... And of course if you had a loss, let's hear.
Come on everyone.. dish!! :D
DonnaS 01-16-2006, 02:09 PM So far to date I have a 4 pound loss, which is great, my personal goal was to hopefully lose 2 pounds a week, and I have done that.
Energy level is up, and I have noticed that my skin feels more hydrated. Haven't really noticed anything with my hair, but I'm hoping it takes on more sheen with the olive oil in the diet. I think that biggest thing that has changed non scale, is my appreciation for portions and quantities of food.
I finished Wave 1 Friday and begin Wave 2 today. I had a couple of family events this past weekend and, while I watched what I ate, did not conform entirely to Sonoma Diet principles. That’s OK, though, because if I am careful I get great enjoyment from eating the same foods as others and do not feel any guilt. As I mentioned on the exercise thread, I did not exercise this weekend but that is also OK because I had 7 great workouts during the week.
Probably the biggest change I have made over the past 2 weeks is eating more vegetables and nuts. In September of 2005, I gradually began eating better and drinking more water, so starting the Sonoma Diet was not a radical change. I was getting into a food rut, so the Sonoma Diet was a welcome and wonderful change. I am enjoying the meal plans and recipes and do not feel like I am on a “diet.” While I previously experienced improved hair, skin, and nails, and even whiter teeth, my skin looks even better since I began eating so many vegetables.
I am “shrinking” at a faster rate than before and I am now in a smaller size! I am not sure if it is due to the Sonoma Diet, or if my previous exercise and eating are beginning to produce results. I suspect it is a little of both. My size 12s are snug, but I feel comfortable wearing them in public. This is really exciting for me because even though I exercised faithfully and watched what I ate during September and October, I did not see any results. My clothing fit the same, my measurements remained the same, and the scale went UP! Muscle growth, I know, but still hard to see. Then when I started seeing changes in November, it was so slow. So it is nice to see more rapid change. I actually look forward to my next medical check-up at the end of Feb. so I can see if there are improvements in my blood pressure and cholesterol.
Totally Neck-ed 01-16-2006, 03:48 PM I lost 6 lbs and it was enough to put me in my 16 jeans again.. although snuggly!! I am rewarding myself with some new Seven Jeans on Ebay. By the time they get here, They sould fit great!
Feeling really good, I do have a cold... so energy wise.. not so good right now! But check back with me next week! LOL :)
Suzanne 3FC 01-16-2006, 04:00 PM My taste buds are happy :)
2BFIT1 01-16-2006, 06:42 PM I haven't been 100 % but have been eating mostly OP. I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks and most notibly feel less bloated and I have more energy. I have been getting some exercise but today started my real exercise plan.
chocoholic1 01-16-2006, 08:52 PM Two weeks yesterday and down 6 lbs. The first 10 days really did curb my sweets cravings and I'm eating more consciously now. I got rid of all my treats, both salty and sweet and now enjoy almonds, fruit, or yogurt for afternoon snacks. I've also given up my 4-a-day diet Coke habit, in fact, I've only had two diet Cokes this year. I'm really enjoying the glass of wine with dinner and a couple of nights I've had a 50-calorie square of premium dark bittersweet chocolate with the last of my red wine. YUM!!!
Also, I'm sleeping better and seem to have more energy. Prior to Sonoma, I got sleepy by 9 pm, sometimes needing an afternoon nap. Now I'm able to stay awake later and haven't needed that nap since I started. Even my son noticed last week when he came over for dinner that I wasn't dropping off by 9.
I LOVE this!!! It really fits into my lifestyle, especially being able to enjoy whole wheat bread and rolls AND wine. AND, no counting points!!
:)

newmyers 01-16-2006, 09:05 PM Dh and I started Jan 2. He jumped to wave 2 after a couple of days... he was going batty. I stuck out wave 1 for 9 days. We have 3 kids and are gradually switching them over to healthier eating. They still get mac and cheese or bread with no "crunchy stuff" If I am making something not very kid friendly (greek salads w/ chicken) I will modify some of the dinner so they will eat it. (chicken w/ a few lettuce leaves, carrots and leftover mac and cheese)
We did the whole kitchen clean out before starting... boy did that feel good! I am down 12 lbs. My only cheat so far was chocolate grahmn crackers... I ate quite a few one night.
I save time and energy by making 2 extra servings of dinner and packing that for our lunch the next day. My co-workers are drooling... One woman even offered to hire me to cook her lunches. LOL DH loves mediteranean pork chop and lettuce in a wrap. I love this food!
My non-scale victory is that I can close my car door and not hit myself in the behind!
GinaXOXO 01-16-2006, 10:49 PM Wow! Everyone is doing so well!
This is day 7 for me and DH. I really feel good about what we are doing for our health and families health and habits. It will only get better from here.
I am not going to officially weigh myself until the 10 days of wave 1 are over. DH and I think wave 1 has been great for us and are considering staying on it (wave 1). What do you think?? Is that a bad idea??
I have noticed more energy. I have developed an allergy/sinus problem this weekend though and that often slows me down. I am doing ok and better than usual when this happens.
I just feel so darn proud!! Gina
DH and I think wave 1 has been great for us and are considering staying on it (wave 1). What do you think?? Is that a bad idea??
Hi Gina! The only thing that would concern me about staying on Wave 1 indefinitely is that you would miss out on eating fruit. Also, Wave 2 has many more vegetable options. Perhaps you and DH could eat slightly smaller portions of Wave 2 meals? Or eat a little more vegetables and a little less of the other groups? I'd be interested to hear what others think because I like the results I am seeing with Wave 1 and thought about staying on it.
Clareh 01-17-2006, 04:02 AM Everybody's results are awesome!
NSV- buying a pair of UK size 14 jeans in Gap and them being a bit big (but they were in the last of the sale at £12 so I couldn't resist, my boyfriend commenting on a new curve I have round my waist (in- not out!), loving the food and Linda's recipes.
SV- I didn't lose this week! Thought I'd been so good- the exercise has been off the wall- power walking 21 miles, 50 mins on cross trainer, weights session and 90 mins yoga class; portion sizes have been good and I've only had 2 glasses of wine since new year (which is my downfall) BUT THE SCALE HAS NOT MOVED. Oh well, I think that I've been a bit slack with Wave 1- thinking that as I was exercising a lot a square of chocolate wouldn't matter so am restarting for a week to get things moving. Heres to a scale victory next Tuesday!
Continued good luck everyone (we all know that luck has nothing to do with it!)
The seven jeans sound like really good motivation!
irishgreengables 01-17-2006, 09:53 AM I am on day 9, but we started wave 2 on day 7 because my milk supply (nursing) was slowing down. After months of repeated plateaus between losses DESPITE eating no sugar and no white carbs and no processed foods and exercising 6 days a week, I have lost 8 lbs. in 9 days. What is most important is the realization that, despite all my previous healthy eating, my portions were pretty large and I snacked throughout the day on a lot of nuts and raisins. Now I am snacking on veggies and my 11 almonds per day.
In response to staying on wave 1, I am wondering if you might consider switching around? I think that remaining on wave 1 puts you at so few calories that your body is sure to rebel at some point and plateau and maybe gain. What if you did wave 2 for 3 weeks or so and then did 10 days of wave 1 and then returned to wave 2? I am actually planning on doing wave 3 during vacation times (we are going on a big vaca this summer) and then following up that vaca wave 3 week with a week on wave 1. She notes in the book that you can return to wave 1 when you plateau. I think it is a good idea to use it as a booster when you plateau or when you have a bad week, rather than as a regular thing. Just my 2 cents.
Indiacatz 01-17-2006, 12:57 PM Hi all... So far for January, I lost 4 pounds in the first week, then I gained one and this past week, I turtled.. I think it took a couple of weeks for the holiday food issues to clear up... Hope to show a good loss next week.... Everyone have a great day... Barb
Totally Neck-ed 01-17-2006, 01:41 PM So.. DH found my Fitday Journal... on my PC and saw my weight. Almost wanted to DIE on the SPOT! So we weigh exactly the same. Gross. More motivation! He wants to get to 185 so I guess its Game On.
Indiacatz 01-17-2006, 02:29 PM Totally.. Nothing like a little friendly competition...:) is he doing Sonoma?? India
tearjerker 01-17-2006, 03:08 PM What? We're on a diet? Why didn't anyone tell me?!? hehehe just kidding!
For the one 1/2 weeks on Sonoma I've lost 5 lbs. Today I am tired, but normally I have noticed more energy. I can run up the stairs at work here, at least the one flight. I work on second, but eat lunch on 3rd...and normally we run out of steam by the time we make it to the top, especially from first floor. I ran up them today from 2nd and had plenty of energy to spare. I need to try it from first to see a true improvement though.
My pants seem to fit me better today. I'm still wearing my stretchy 18w jeans, but normally after taking them out of the dryer I have to fight to get them on, today I think they went on fairly smooth. Can't wait until they are too big! I love them because they are the first jeans that I've found that not only fit me, but complement me, but I think I'll love to be able to fit into a size 14 more. Not to mention a 12 hopefully eventually! :-)

Yeah, a little friendly competition could be fun! You can set targets and come up with some really fun prizes ... :D

Yay!!! Isn't that a great feeling? Stick with eating well and exercising and you'll be in a 14 before you know it.
DonnaS 01-18-2006, 11:23 AM I am not going to officially weigh myself until the 10 days of wave 1 are over. DH and I think wave 1 has been great for us and are considering staying on it (wave 1). What do you think?? Is that a bad idea??
Gina,
I personally would say move to Wave 2, then if you end up plateauing in Wave 2, you have Wave 1 to move back to, and it just might be the "shock" to the system to get the weight moving down again.
tearjerker 01-18-2006, 06:37 PM Gina-I considered staying on wave 1 a little longer since I wasn't "perfect" for all 10 days...then I decided to do what DonnaS suggested...go ahead and start wave 2 and then if I'm not totally away from the sweets then go back to wave 1. Well, I think even though I wasn't perfect, I did succeed in breaking the sugar habit. I've got dd birthday cake that I have meant to freeze for later...maybe a little sweet treat for her, but I haven't done it yet and I haven't touched it. Now I just reach for a piece of fruit to satisfy the sweet touth, or a parfait like I made last night from the recipe list.
tearjerker 01-22-2006, 10:10 AM OKay- I sooo excited today. It looks like I made my Valentine's day goal early! I stepped on the scale last night for a cheat peak...not sure why I do that, I never trust night weighs for me...but it said I had dropped to 214! I thought it was lying! So, I stepped on it again and this time it said 215. Oh well, I'll still take it! But, I thought I'd wait until this morning to share the news with everyone just in case. So this morning I stepped on it and it still said 215! I'm so excited to finally break that 220 mini-plateau I was having! I was beginning to think I was doing something wrong...nope, it's onward and downward from here!
:dancer::goodscale: :encore:
terravita 01-22-2006, 11:27 AM I am just finishing my first official week on the diet, and I've lost 6 pounds! Woohoo! :carrot: Because I had always gone very low fat when I dieted, I was having a hard time believing I could add oil to my food and still lose weight. Well, I believe it now!
My biggest NSV is more energy. I have some sleep problems, so I still feel sleepy a lot of times, but not so *tired*.....if that makes sense. Another nice thing is just how good it makes me feel psychologically when I know I'm eating food that I enjoy and is good for me. It just changes my outlook on everything.
I also took the plunge last week and ordered a treadmill. :tread: It should arrive by Friday, and I'm excited about that. Walking is my favorite form of exercise, but I'm a wimp about weather!
DonnaS 01-22-2006, 11:33 AM Tammie,
That is awesome!!! Way to go.
Clareh 01-22-2006, 01:20 PM I need some motivation, ladies. I've had a BAAAD weekend.
We were due to go to a friend's 30th chinese meal yesterday and I thought it was a buffet. It turned out to be a banquet (where they bring you 6 courses) and although I'd tried to plan for the chinese factor, being presented with courses of high fat, deep fried food meant I ate totally off plan. I had half a bowl of chicken and sweetcorn soup, 5 prawn crackers, 2 ribs, 3 dim sum, 3 peking duck pancakes and by the time the nutritious main courses came I could only eat a few mouthfulls of prawns and stir fried beef (which was what I'd planned for) I then had a square of birthday cake.
Can someone please put me back in perspective- it's only one meal but I ate the empty calories of it, and I'm beating myself up for the fact that I couldn't control it, so it wll went to pot (as my BF said, I didn't need to eat any of the earlier courses if I didn't want to.)
Today is fairly on plan (have been travelling, so not quite fully sonoma but following the principles) and I'm working out on the cross trainer. Please can you give me some of your motivation today as not feeling very positive at all!
tearjerker 01-22-2006, 04:16 PM Claire...look at it this way. It was one meal out of what? A lifetime? It was a party, and by the sounds of it not one you are likely to be invited to every day of the week, so don't be so down on yourself for enjoying yourself. Today is a new day, get back on the horse and don't worry about last night. We are all bound to indulge every once in awhile (I'm living proof of it..my dd birthday? Chuck E. Cheese?) You put it behind you and go onward from here. It'll all balance out in the end as long as you allow it to!

Exactly. Think about this, before you started Sonoma, would you have thought twice about your buffet choices? I know that I'm much more congnizant of the choices that I am making, even if they aren't the right choices, and if I do fall off the wagon, I move on from that point, decide if it was something that was a one time thing, or if it was something else.
I don't really have anything to add to what Tearjerker and DonnaS wrote except to say that I agree with both of them. Don't beat yourself up, just move on. Who knows, maybe next time it will be easier to say "no" to the less-nutritious earlier courses.
I, too, am struggling at times. I went to a birthday party this afternoon and had a slice of pizza :jeno: and a small square of birthday cake. But the old Sherry would have had two or three slices of pizza :jeno: :jeno: :jeno: and a big square of cake.
irishgreengables 01-23-2006, 09:59 AM Clareh,
We all have those times. DH is lamenting one as we speak. He is re-doing wave 1 in its entirety because he feels he did not learn enough about portion sizes the first time. Might you consider re-oing wave 1 for a day or 2 just to feel like you are back on track? If anything, it might give you an emotional boost and a little redemption.
2BFIT1 01-23-2006, 12:21 PM DH and I think wave 1 has been great for us and are considering staying on it (wave 1). What do you think?? Is that a bad idea??
I am now venturing from Wave 1, also. I think I will do 1 week with mostly Wave 1 foods and occassionally add in a Wave 2 food, not everyday though. If I don't lose with this then I can back off of the W2 foods and go slower.
Terravita~~I also took the exercise plunge and ordered a Life Fitness elliptival which will arrive Wednesday. Now we have NO excuse not to exercise;)
Clareh 01-23-2006, 01:35 PM Thanks ladies- I'm loads more positive today and have made good food choices.
Off for 90 mins of yoga and I can't eat before that so will be quite tired and need a bath before dinner tonight.
It's great to have this site where you can come and vent rather than feeding your feelings. It's weigh in day tomorrow and fingers crossed I might still have lost something.
Good luck this week!
Totally Neck-ed 01-23-2006, 01:43 PM Well we went out to the Keg again last night. One of my Girlfriends turned 30.. and so I have my steak and scallop/shrimp dish.. and then the deserts come... oh I just had to have some! It was insane! I was an animal! LOL. I checked the scales when I got home and gained 4 lbs!! LOL I am hoping once I have a "movement" it will disappear. :) Back to the grind today!
<<Big hugs Clareh>>>
terravita 01-23-2006, 04:21 PM I really believe that it's okay to go off plan every now and then. It's what we do on a regular basis that truly matters. We had a very social weekend that started with a birthday party Friday night for a Cajun friend, so of course that included gumbo, which I simply can't resist! Then we had another party on Saturday night, but luckily that one included a veggie tray, so I was able to do a bit better at resisting temptation. Sunday we met friends for lunch, but we went to Applebee's and ordered from their Weight Watchers menu. BTW, they have a fantastic grilled tilapia with mango salsa, and you can order a double side of veggies and have them leave off the rice pilaf.
I didn't even bother to weigh again until this morning, and believe it or not, I still was down a pound! :-)
Indiacatz 01-23-2006, 09:36 PM :carrot: Doing the the happy dance, lost 3 lb for the first week. That is really good for me.... I am very pleased and hope I can continue to lose.. I got 3 more days of wave 1 and then onto wave 2.. I keep finding recipes to scale to the sonoma way... Hope everyone has a great week... India:cb: :cb: :cp: :bravo:
Clareh 01-24-2006, 03:56 AM I have lost a pound. Trying to feel positive about it. I think my focus is probably on the wrong thing as I'm quite clearly shrinking round the waist and all my exercise is resulting in strong muscly legs and apparently my bum is more defined too. However, when I get on the scales and see that all my hard work is only a pound my heart sinks.
Anyway, might have to buy some body fat scales to take my focus away.... or ditch them altogether for a month (scary thought!) Giving up is not an option so will be more careful with my food next week - have to walk 22 miles so exercise will be good.

Muscle weighs more than fat, so you are probably gaining muscle. I have a scale that does the body fat thing, I took all my measurements when I started the program, then last week when I only lost a pound, I checked my body fat % and it had gone down, so it was the pick me up that I needed.

Clareh a pound a week is 52 pounds a year. You didn't gain it overnight and as much as we'd like it to go away faster, it does take much longer to lose it than gain. You also are't going to lose nearly as fast as a 250 pound woman. It now can take me a month to lose a pound, whereas when I first started I could lose 2 pounds a week.
The most important reason you should be doing this is for your health. Pretty clothes, a smaller body etc are all really secondary to good health, aren't they?
Clareh 01-24-2006, 12:24 PM OK. I'm sorry for griping. I'm just trying to give myself a measurable objective I can see results by (as I'm currently as healthy as a horse and have great energy levels that's not so easy to see big changes)
I think I'll invest in some body fat scales so I've got a better idea of the more important changes happening in my body!
Thanks for the support ladies.
tearjerker 01-24-2006, 12:49 PM I went up two of my ten pounds I've lost so far...but I've decided NOT to change my tracker because it could just be water weight. I've followed program faithfully but my water intake is down and I haven't been working out as faithfully as I did when I started. I'm resolving to bust butt to get back into the Y every morning and increasing my water intake to where it needs to be and get the scale moving in the right direction!
:drill: :ebike: :wl:

My scale does that too, but I'm not sure HOW it calculates it...I think mine just takes your weight against your height...which would not be accurate if muscle weighs more than weight because I'm sure the weight I've lost is all fat pounds which would make my body % lower, but I need to scroll through my history to see how much it's gone down. :?: Hopefully it's reflective of my efforts.

Eh, gripe away, that's how you make it through the lows, you (or one of us) gripes, the others chime in with perspective, and all is right with the universe again. :)
Clareh 01-24-2006, 03:15 PM BODY FAT UPDATE!!!
I've just been walking with my friend, who mentioned she had some body fat scales stored under the bed.
I now know why the scale aint going down. Since I introduced my healthy eating and exercise plan last year, the 14lbs I've slowly lost equates to a 15% drop in body fat!
My body fat has gone from 39% to 24%!!!!!
:carrot: :carrot: :carrot: :carrot: :carrot:
Totally Neck-ed 01-24-2006, 04:41 PM Clareh.... BIG HUGS!! That is awesome news!
Hard work always pays off! You are gonna be a hot mama!
Clareh, that is GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you! Isn't it wonderful what all that exercise has done???

Hehehe...sorry, just went crazy! That is AWESOME!!!! But that would explain it...the weight is NOT always the answer!!! Thanks for reminding me of that Claire!
tearjerker 01-25-2006, 02:55 PM well...eating yesterday...not so good. I broke down and got CC's pizza last night....soooooo good! mmm...especially the Cinna rolls....totally NOT Sonoma.:nono: And, I had leftovers for lunch :nono: Too tired to cook. I may have been a bit bummed to about my 2 lb gain...
Tonight I'm renewing my commitment...and having something probably with the shrimp and asparagus. I don't have my book with me, so I dunno. I think I need to sit down and draw up my meal plan for the week. I tried to use MasterCook to input all of the Sonoma recipies from the book so I can just link to them in building my meal plan and then print off the grocery list. That would have been sooo very easy, but it's too time consuming to type every recipe in...and I can't afford to join Sonoma online to get access to those meal plans and grocery list. *sigh* what am I complaining about...just sitting here making excuses...I don't need no fancy computer program, I just need to sit down and do it.
On to other more happier things, I went to go look at our possible new appartment yesterday after workout. It is small, but I like it. The kitchen is actually big which dh will love :chef: but there is no dining room apart from the living room. The living room is about the size of our living room now without the dining room and we are expected to squeeze a table in there or eat on tv trays in front of the tv...NOT what I wanted to do, so it's going to have to be off to the store to buy a smaller table (we needed new anyway...new table and living room set...we just have to scale down quite a bit!) But...the good news is that their fitness center is FANTASTIC! State of the art equipment that is accessable 24-hrs a day-treadmills, elipticals, one recumbent bike, and weight equipment. I just have to buy a card to access it after hours, which I plan on doing. That way like the other morning when I woke up at 5 thinking I need to get up so I can go, but didn't want to get the girls up, now I won't have to! I can let them sleep and get my workout in the mornings, and not disturb anyone! He'll have to take them with him when he goes to work because the babysitter will totally be out of my way to go before work...but I told him I will pick them up after I get off then...I have more time I won't mind.
Now I'm debating about keeping my Y membership if I get in there. I won't get rid of it right away because of the pool, but they have an outdoor pool of course...kind of hard to swim laps in it though of course, more for recreation. Plus the girls can participate in their programs at the Y if I keep it, swim lessons, tumbling when they get older...anything to encourage an active lifestyle. But it's $50 a month...I dunno...we'll see.
So, besides being off program yesterday, otherwise I had a great day with the workout and finding out about the apartment. I want to move in right away, but we have one more month on our lease. We have to let him know we are not renewing and hopefully pass the credit check at the apartment :crossed:.
Anyway...thanks for listening as always gals! You guys are the best!
Clareh 01-25-2006, 03:23 PM Wow! An apartment with a gymn! That's fantastic.
You're going to kick our @ss's big style!
tearjerker 01-25-2006, 03:54 PM I'm not moved in yet...still got that credit check to pass yet...I haven't been such a good girl in the past, but 90% of all my bad stuff is scheduled to fall off this year, so hopefully they will take that into consideration :crossed:
DonnaS 01-25-2006, 09:28 PM I didn't do that great on plan today, but not as bad as my old habits would have been a month ago.
Well I have the rest of the night for on plan, and tomorrow is a whole new day and a whole new start.
DonnaS 01-26-2006, 10:44 AM Well the rest of the night was on plan, and I did two workouts this morning, but can I just say, I'm really not into it this week. And by "it" I mean me - I'm the one that I'm doing this for, I'm the one who really does feel better since I made the decision to change my food choices, I feel better, sleep better, and am more alert at work because of the exercise, but I just feel "blah" about the whole thing.
Last night I was kinda hungary, so I went downstairs to get some veggies, but first I drank a glass of water, to see if I was really hungary or not, I wasn't, I just wanted to graze, so I did good, I got out some cucumbers and some blanched asparagas that I had in the fridge, and ate a little bit of it. Now the old me, grazing would have meant a big ole bowl of ice cream, but it wasn't even that I wanted something sweet.
But it got me thinking, I really haven't taken the time this week, to take care of me, sure I'm eating the right foods according to plan (for the most part), but I'm not enjoying the food, or the exercise this week. I guess I'm in a funk.
MELODY525 01-26-2006, 12:56 PM I AM STILL ONLY ONE POUND UP AND DOWN. NOT SURE IF IT'S THE MEDS OR NOT. ONE DR SAID TO GIVE IT MORE TIME. SO I WILL DO LIKE LINDA SAID AND COUNT ON THE NSVS TILL THE MEDS ARE FINISHED. I FEEL BETTER AND THAT'S A BIG BONUS SINCE LAST SUMMER.:p
I THINK YOU GALS ARE DOING SO GREAT. CONGRATS FOR STICKING WITH IT THIS MONTH. YOU ALL HELPED TO MAKE MY MONTH GO BY SOOO FAST. I'VE BEEN HAVING SOME TOUGH TIMES SINCE LAST MAY. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU! :encore:
**I REC'D THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET COOKBOOK YESTERDAY AND LIKE IT VERY MUCH WITH ONE EXCEPTION. THE MEALS ARE A BIT MORE COMPLICATED AND BEING IN THE WCHAIR, I LIKE TO KEEP KITCHEN TIME SHORT. I DO LIKE THE WAY MS. JENKINS TALKS THOUGH AND THE BOOK IS NOT ALL JUST RECIPES....THERE IS PLENTY OF GOOD COMMON SENSE IN THERE TOO. GOOD HEALTHY ADVICE. BACK TO THE BASICS KIND OF STUFF.
I FELT MOTIVATED JUST READING IT!!! BUT THEN I LOVE ALL THINGS TUSCAN FOR SOME REASON.:carrot:
Clareh 01-26-2006, 01:30 PM Melody 25- NSVs rock! I'm going to be very dependant on them as it seems I can change my body composition without noticing it if I rely on scales. 21lbs is awesome.
DonnaS- we all have these weeks- I was really positive yesterday (after excercise) but feel really drained and tired today. Listen to your body (except when it tells you that chocolate is the answer!!)

Clareh - I just need to plug through, this is the point, where trying something new isn't "fun" anymore, it's work, serious work. I know once I blast past, it's clean sailing from here. But a square of dark chocolate did help this morning. :D
MELODY525 01-28-2006, 10:38 AM Clare~ thanks for the encouragement. I just got word I can stop taking one pill!! YAY!!!
I am hoping for a much better month in February!!
petra65 01-28-2006, 01:26 PM I'm really enjoying finding ways to add new variety to my diet, not to mention the wine. I'm discovering some new ones I've never tried before and really like. I want to work on adding more fish to my diet too. I drink way too many protein shakes (I make them myself as opposed to ones you buy prepackaged) but would like to replace them with more "real food." The protein shakes can be convenient when you are in a hurry though.
terravita 01-29-2006, 12:43 AM Petra, I'm trying to add more fish to my diet, too. I've never been much of a fan of it, but I've found that tilapia and mahi mahi are nice and mild--and they have bags of both at reasonable prices at Sam's Club. Anyway, it's been fun to try fixing it different ways, and I love how quickly it cooks. It's great for the nights I've had to work late and need a nice quick dinner. And I think I'm actually beginning to like it pretty well!
beaner0620 01-29-2006, 08:40 AM 9 pounds lost since jan. 3. I know thats a lot for that time, but I have done a 180 from dr. p and brownie for breakfast, to no sugar, low fat and no white flour. It must be paying off because I ahve done very little exercise, i know i need to, and it still is coming off. I have had more energy and have been going non stop lately, so Im sure thats helping. Good luck.
DonnaS 01-29-2006, 08:46 PM Okay, so Friday I don't think I ate one thing that was on plan, I'm not sure why, but I didn't, I felt awful, literally, bloated, tired, etc. No exercise either. I think it was because I didn't lose anything for the week.
Saturday, back to the basics, and we went to the zoo, so a whole day of walking, and munching on celery and cucumbers.
But Friday really through me, I did find this weekend that I was/am craving sugar again, so I might hit Wave 1 again for this week, and get myself back on track.
