Ok, everyone. It's one week into the new year and the excitement of starting something new is waning. Keep your eye on the prize.. a healthier you and you can get past this bit of the doldrums.

What did you do well the first week? What needs improvement? What surprised you?

I Lost 3 lbs and I don't have the book yet .. or know all the "rules" just eating the recipies off of here. I am so happy with the recipies. I am not an every night cooker.. but these are so good, I don;t mind the effort and there ususally are left overs for lunch the next day. Love the support here!

Congratulations, Sandra! That's a great start! :bravo:

I haven't been very Sonomish. I've had the flu and didn't want to think about food, and have just eaten canned soup, hot tea, etc. All those fresh veggies I bought went to waste.

I'm shopping later and will start again tomorrow :) I'm still excited, Linda :D

I've been "working" the plan since Wednesday or so...fully since Friday since I got the book Thursday night...and so far so good I love this plan! It is so easy to stick with! My "official" weigh-in is tomarrow, but I've been too curious to wait and so far I've lost 4 lbs.

My husband finally jumped on the bandwagon with me and came home yesterday from work with his lunch-peas and mushrooms w/ ranch dressing. He asked me if that was "plan appropriate". He's so cute! I told him that it should have been more of a vinigarette dressing...I forgot to tell him about having some protein with it too!

Last night we had that pork loin with veg ratatouie but I forgot to add the peppers...oh well, it was still good! dh hates squash...I mean HATES it! So, I was nice and asked him if he wanted peas instead, to which he jumped at. I made him peas and then gave him a spoonful of the ratattouie for a taste, and he started stealing it off MY plate when he finished his! He asked me why I got so much while he got peas and I told him I asked him if he wanted peas instead and just gave him a taste...I think he was kicking himself for not asking for more! Today I have those leftovers on a whole wheat tortilla...sounds sooo yummy I just can't wait!

I am half-way through Wave 1 and doing pretty good. I had a small set-back on Friday when I didn't feel good and ate some potato chips and a Toblerone chocolate bar. But at least it was dark chocolate. :D

I am still very excited about the Sonoma Diet. Because I am lazy, I've been following the meal plans for each day but I love them! My husband also loves this food. And the recipes are pretty easy to prepare. I am also glad to be exercising regularly again -- I stopped doing cardio for the last two weeks of December but kept up with the weights.

hi there,

today is my first official day 'on plan'. i hadn't heard of the book until the middle of last week so it took me a few days to read the book and get my act together. i had planned on getting back on board with w.w. but this sounds like it will be much more do-able for me.

i almost always eat kashi golean crunch in the morning anyway (but with yogurt, so had milk today instead) and had the greek salad with chicken instead of shrimp - yum! i'm excited to be trying something new that seems like it might be workable for the long run.

Hi everyone! Can I join in? I've been lurking in this forum, reading about the Sonoma diet and picked up a copy late last week. My first day on plan was yesterday. So far so good! I have a real sweet tooth, but luckily, I haven't had many sweet cravings... the hardest part is not finishing up my 4yo son's food...

I look forward to seeing what everyone else is eating!

What did you do well the first week? I lost 2 pounds for the first week, and that's great, my goal is to lose about 2 pounds a week, so I'm starting out right.

I did well reading through the book, and starting the basic concept. I was really hyped on the new plan, just like I think people are whenever they start something new. I wasn't looking for a miracle, but in a way I think I found one. I think that I have set really realistic goals for myself this go around, and with the fact that the plan is laid out but there aren't any hard core rules, I like the flexibility that I have.

This weekend, I took the time to finish the book, and I have my menu together for the week, so hopefully it will go easier, I think I'm going to get into the habit of trying to make stuff ahead of time on Sunday's so that I can use it throughout the week.

What needs improvement? I need to get better at planning my meals, and also making sure I have some back up snacks available for the days when I can't get enough to eat.

What surprised you?I'm still pretty much eating what I like, I have to admit I'm missing the fruit right now, but it's coming. I don't feel like I am depriving myself, and I am learning and tasting some great new recipes.

I've been on my slightly amended version of the Sonoma diet as I only got the book this weekend.

I love the plate size idea and it's working really well. I've not been strict enough as I've just been following the principles and have snuck in the odd apple and a few squares of chocolate but I'm loving it!

After the biggest ever Christmas gain (6lbs) I'm looking forward to my weigh in tomorrow as I think I've dumped a lot of the water.

Exercise is good too- great to blow the cobwebs away after the Christmas holiday. :carrot:

All in all a great week and really easy- great results above and good luck everyone! :goodvibes

Hi - I've been on since Jan. 1 and LOVE it! I really got serious about this and got rid of ALL my snacks on Dec. 31. I've really enjoyed Wave 1 and it was just what I needed to get rid of my sugar cravings. And it's worked!! I'm a Lifetime WW and my goal is 145. I was almost five pounds over goal on NY Day and needed to get back in control.

Boy was I happy this morning to step on the scale and be almost a pound under goal. It's been much easier than I'd originally thought to do Wave 1. I can honestly say that I haven't had alcohol, chocolate or other sweets, or even diet Coke since last year. I am so looking forward to having wine with dinner starting Wednesday though. I miss that!

4.5 pounds gone so far and maybe I can FINALLY get to my personal goal.

5lbs down! I can't pretend it's all fat but it's good to see the scale move in that direction.

I have started reading the book and implemented some of the ideas already--I decided to kick my Coke habit at the beginning of the year (I sound like such a junkie!) and have switched to water. I have lost 8 lbs so far just with that--Hubby wants to do a modified Somoma with me--he will just eat bigger portions and will need some potatoes before Wave 3, but he thought that what I had read to him sounded good. With the kids both out of the house we have already changed alot of our eating habits and this will step it up. I was going to do NutriSystem but decided this would be better as it is more fresh foods and less proceesed in a box meals. I was going to do the NS to get portion control under control too, but Sonoma takes care of that also.

Three pounds down this morning! Wave 1 has been easy even if I haven't followed it perfectly. I blame my husband's addiction to eating out. :P

Today I come to work and find Krispy Kremes waiting for us! argh! I keep repeating to myself over and over, "Just because it is there does not mean I have to eat it." So far it has worked, I haven't touched a one...but I guess my sugar cravings aren't all gone, but unless it's in view or accessable I don't think about sweets like I used to. That's nice!

Oh my gosh! I no more than posted my last one when I got an email saying the office was having pizza and salad for lunch today!!! And I didn't have time to pack my lunch.

Okay, planning is key...what I will do is load up on a little extra salad and have a veggie slice...one...try to stay away from the fatty meats and the cheese will be my protien....and I won't eat the crust so I have very little of the white flour crust. I think that won't be too bad, right?

My Sonoma book was waiting for me when I got home! YAY!! I have already started to read it and measured some plates! :carrot: I find that my kitchen is almost Sonoma ready! It surely will be by tonite. I will start the plan today because I have lots of Sonoma friendly things in the fridge/freezer.
But..... isn't there always a butttt?!
I cannot go 10 days without fresh fruit at least once a day with all my conditions. I tried that once before with the SBD and paid dearly for the consequences! I am already on a daily prescribed laxative for wheelchair users. So that one piece for fruit will have to stay. I'm very excited about this easy to follow, healthy choices, no nonsense plan. Looks like a keeper to me.:carrot:

I'm pretty excited today because it is my weigh-in day and I've lost 2 pounds since last Wednesday. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it's quite a bit for me; I had been losing 2 to 4 pounds per month. Even better, my body fat % decreased and it corresponds pretty closely with my weight loss so I think the loss was almost all fat. Though I still have plenty of fat to get rid of. :yikes:

Sherry, yeah for the weight loss, anything lost is a loss whether it's 1/2 a pound or 5 pounds, it's still gone.

Oh, I'm so not feeling this whole eating healthy change lifestyle thing today.

But I am proud of myself, although I did stray from the plan, I didn't over indulge, and I didn't revert back to old eating habits just because it would have been so easy today.

Thanks, Donna. It's nice to finally see the scale move and the clothing get looser.

And good for you for not over-indulging even though you strayed from the plan! I think a big part eating better is knowing when to stop with certain foods and you did it! You didn't give up completely and go back to your old ways!!

Melody, I think you have to taylor it for your own needs, especially if you have health concerns. I am a nursing mom, albeit nursing an 18 m.o. (so I am not her sole source of nutrition) so I have to eat a little more than the plan for wave 1. You do what you have to do.

I have lost 4 lbs. this week. I started Monday. I am not dellusional. I know it is water weight and that new beginning weight, but after way too many plateaus, I am thrilled. I am thinking I will move into wave 2 a few days early because I think my milk supply is getting a bit low. I am not worried because I didn't eat any white foods or sugar BEFORE starting. Wave 1 has definitely taught me a lot about portion control, though, so I think it has been effective in that way.

I started on Monday. So, I'm half-way through Wave 1. Hardest part for me has been planning my meals. Once I get them straight, I have not had a problem with hunger. I've been eating 3 meals with an afternoon snack of 6 nuts - either almonds or pecans. No cravings for sweets.

I've lost 4 lbs in these 5 days. NOTE: I had lost 5 lbs the previous week using the JC diet. So, I don't think I can attribute these 4 lbs to water-loss.

Hi I'm Julie and I have switched to Sonoma from SBD. I just finished 12 days of Phase 1 of SB, and decided to switch to Sonoma for the portion control and WINE in Wave 2. I think I might be an alcoholic. Just kidding. Anyway, I'm on day 2 of Wave 1 and I think I am in love. I'm following the menus and I am being driven crazy by the smell of my flank steak marinating on the counter. Its divine. See you soon !

Hello Everyone! I too have been "eyeballing" :dizzy: this forum for a lil while. I love it! I started Sonoma today. I haven't tried any recipes, rather just conformed my regular chicken and salad portions. This is crunch time for me though. I LOVE to eat at night. I have radishes and hummus on hand jic.
Thanks for the motivation everyone! I am looking forward to helping others as well!

Okay -- so my first week saw a loss of 7 lbs. total! Yikes. And I only exercise 3 days because I wanted to have someplace to go while in wave 2. I am wondering about having a weekly weigh-in/measurement (whichever people want) thread?

I am in for a weekly weigh in! :)
I am a little freaked out...I weighed this morning. According to my freaky scale I lost 4 lbs in two days. I just started Sonoma yesterday. Does that sound goofy to anyone else? I weighed my son, and his weight was correct.
