View Full Version : Exercise is not a dirty word - January
LindaT 01-01-2006, 01:06 PM When I was asked to help Suzanne mod this new forum, I told her I was going to be a bear about exercise. so here it is.
Even if we never lose a pound by exercising, we must do it for good health. I know a lot of people have made some New Year's resolutions about diet and exercise... so let's hear some of those exercise plans!
Mine is to continue my before work cardio workouts and instead of doing my weights after work (when I am able to come up with a million excuses why I can't do them) I'm going to be getting up earlier and doing them in the morning along with my cardio. So instead of getting up at 4:45am, it's now going to be 4:25 and NO I am not happy about it but I gotta do what I gotta do.
So let's hear some plans ladies!!:carrot:
Dinahgirl 01-01-2006, 02:58 PM Linda, thank you for the reminder that exercise is vital, whether or not we lose weight. I needed to hear that.
I joined the YMCA yesterday to make sure I can continue my exercise through the winter months. My plan is to go to the Y at least 3 days a week for strength training and cardio, and the other 2 days of cardio either do them at the Y or at home with a DVD.
MELODY525 01-01-2006, 03:04 PM IF I CAN DEPEND ON ANY ONE PERSON TO BE PAINFULLY HONEST WITH ME, IT IS YOU LINDA!! CATTLE PROD AND ALL, I STILL LOVE YA!! 3FC PICKED A GREAT ONE FOR THE JOB! CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK:cp:
OK I AM GETTING OUT MY PEDAL THINGY RIGHT NOW AND DUST IT OFF. I HAVE BEEN SAYING I WILL DO THIS FOR OVER A MONTH NOW!!
:ebike: I WILL PEDAL 30 MINS 3X'S A WEEK
:wl: I WILL DO CARDIO OR TAI CHI 2X'S A WEEK.
NO EXCUSES 2006 IS STARTING TODAY IN MEL'S HOUSE! :moped:
Thanks, Linda, for the reminder about exercise. Even if it doesn't cause weight loss, it will make us look better when we get there. Plus, there are so many other health benefits.
I plan to continue my weight workouts three days a week (MWF). In an effort to lose more fat, I plan to increase my cardio workouts from three days a week to four or five days a week. My husband and I ride bikes together once a week and swim together one or two times a week. I will continue that and supplement with high-intensity stuff at the gym.
Sherry
Goddess Jessica 01-01-2006, 04:38 PM Exercise is something I love to do when I'm doing it. My plan is to commute to work by bike all week (that's 4 measley miles to work and 4 back). When I get into the groove, I'm going to add a couple of miles each day. My goal is to get up to 100 miles a week by March.
I also am going to add in some more geocaching. Geocaching is a hike with the purpose of finding GPS coordinates and a log of people who have been there before you. It's the only way I can get AB (the cute boyfriend) out of the house. He hates to hike (what's the point?) and geocaching is a sneaky way of getting him to do it. :) If you want to know more about geocaching, I recommend http://www.geocaching.com/.
Leenie 01-01-2006, 07:26 PM Since I am a slug and Linda can confirm that, my plan it to "start out" 5 x a week on my treadmill (30 minutes at least). I'm hoping by spring I will get up to 1 hour, then I will include outdoor bike riding and swimming, weather permitting. Thats my plan :D
Take a look at this...
Some of you may know that I have been keeping charts and measurements for the last couple of years. Today I have brought them up to date and started a new worksheet for the year 2006. I was checking the figures and noticed two things.
1. Weight loss has not been great over the past 2 years. A grand total of 3 kilos or 6.6lbs. Good stuff but not great.
2. I have lost a total of 20 inches from all over this body. 11.75 inches in 2004 and 8.25 inches in 2005. Now that is not bad I reckon.
All up a loss of :
Upper chest - 2.5 inch
Bust - 2.75 inches
Lower Chest - 2.5 inches
Waist - 4 inches
U Hip - 4.25 inches
L Hip - 2.75
Top of Arm - is up .25 inch
Top of Leg - 1.5 inches
Can't help it if I have fat arms. :lol3:
That just goes to show the power of exercise, since I really haven't been dieting at all, just eating well.
I posted this in my 'Friends around the world' thread on 01/01/06. I also worked out that I have gone from a (Aussie sized) 18 to a 12 and can fit into some 10's.
If that doesn't convince anyone that the scale lies, then I have no idea what will.
Plans for the year??? Gym 5 times a week for up to an hour at a time. Half cardio, half weights and resistance and including 10 x 20 reps of abs and thorax muscles. 2 days off, to let the body recover.
Has LindaT mentioned the cattle prod yet???
amyepfaff 01-01-2006, 08:45 PM Thank you Linda! This year I'll diet but not until exercise is a daily habit. I always diet and hyped up about the food (I amd co-owner in a Wine Bar/Food business) and can't seem to exercise.
This time, exercise will become a habit before I start the diet. I need the exercise more than the food at this point in my life. Menopause has made dieting extremely difficult unless I get off my fanny and move.
Amy
fourwinds 01-02-2006, 01:51 AM My plan is to walk 3 miles every day. Might throw in something else in there if I get bored, like I did tonight. (I was watching TV, so I thought I'd do a several sets of arms with weights as well as some leg lunges.) I also like to play DDR, so that should help kill a couple of calories!
That Geocaching someone mentioned sounds like fun. Too bad I don't have a GPS thingamabob.
tearjerker 01-02-2006, 11:37 AM well, my family joined the Y back in October, and the only thing I seem to be able to use it for was swimming lessons for my daughter. I've been wanting to use it more but with one car and my mother-in-law babysitting she seems to want to leave ASAP as soon as I got home, so I didn't want to hold her back by doing a measly 30-min workout. Well, that has all changed as of now! Kind of. I had planned to go tonight after work to work out until we didn't get our car licensed before the 30th. (oops!) and now the DMV is closed until tomarrow...so we have to bum rides from family until then which puts a damper on me going tonight. But, weather permitting, I'll just load the lil' uns up in the stroller and take a cruise around the neighborhood...that's if it stops raining, the temperature is moderate...etc etc.
Or, I'll load up the copy of caribean cardo I recorded on my dvr...that's if dh hasn't erased it! We shall see...but the goal for the next two months (short term) is 30-min 3x a week at the Y. Maybe I'll also join a class as well. I'll look into it.
MELODY525 01-02-2006, 12:26 PM  :strong: :cb: :ebike: :wl: :barbell: :tread: :carrot:
2 DAYS OF EXERCISE UNDER MY SOON TO BE LOOSE BELT!! FEELING VERY GOOD ABOUT THIS MOTIVATING THREAD! I PEDALED AND DID SOME OF THE FAB ABS SUGGESTED BY JORGE CRUISE ON THE AOL TAKE IT OFF CHALLENGE FOR THIS MONTH...MODIFIED FOR THE WHEELCHAIR OF COURSE! :moped:
MAYBE EXERCISE WON'T BE A DIRTY WORD IN MY HOUSE ANYMORE.:thanks: <----MISS LINDA!!!
Aiyana 01-02-2006, 12:59 PM I will be hitting the gym 5x a week. 45 mins cardio (elliptical) and15 mins weight training. Different muscle groups every other day. Starting 1/16 I will be taking belly dancing classes twice a week for a total of 3 hrs. A lot of stop/start and stretching so really can't be classified as cardio.
We're on our Way!!:carrot:
LindaT 01-02-2006, 03:01 PM Very good plans from all of you.. and welcome to the wonderful magical world of exercising , if you are new to it. Once you keep it up, you'll wonder how on earh you ever lived without it. Some days you are going to literally have to kick your butt (or have one of us kick it for you :D ) to get your keister UP and moving, but I promise you that it is sooo worth it. Start at 5 minutes a day if you are really out of shape.. any movement is better than none but as you improve, you must continue to challenge yourself with tougher routines or longer times. Variuety is what keeps it interesting. I started out with videos and when I got too winded, I walked in place, but I never ever gave up.
I see Mel posted an update so wtg Miss Mel with the two days under your belt!! How are the rest of you doing? I got in 93 minutes yesterday and will get 80 today.
Clareh 01-02-2006, 03:08 PM 40 mins on the cross trainer, followed by some tae bo kicks and stretches.
First workout of 2006!
Indiacatz 01-02-2006, 03:34 PM OK OK:dizzy: I have pledged to go back to the gym where I have a yearly membership... Living in NY can be tough in winter, so I will walk inside. I have health issues (arthritis) that sometimes keep me from working out a lot.. But I will do my level best to exercise atleast 3-4 time a wk... I usually stay for an hour and a half when I go... I do water aerobics also..... and some weight training as my knees allow:o ... I will go later, just before my Tops weigh in.... ;) take care and good luck!!!! India
45 minute upper body weight workout this morning, followed by some nice yoga-type stretches. :) I am hoping to get out for a walk, but it is extremely windy and pouring rain and thunderstorms are expected so I don't know if I'll get that in.
Aiyana 01-02-2006, 06:47 PM Well....hmmm..
Let me adjust my fitness goals. I THOUGHT I could do 45 mins on the elliptical. LOL! Let's just say 35 mins was a spiritual experience. So...I think 30 mins will be good for the 1st week or so. I also did an upper body move, a lower body move and a core move 2 sets of 15 reps and then a cool down. I was in/out in an hour. I will be doing that M-F.;)
LindaT 01-02-2006, 07:02 PM Look at all the sweaty and healthy ladies!! :carrot:
Aiyana.. 35 minutes for the first workout is stupendous.. give yourself a big pat on the back!:dancer:
sf40 . another Californian, I see. It sure is nasty today isn't it. Good going on the workout. :strong:
Clareh - oh cross trainer.. good going!:cp:
Let's cheer each other on! I myself am feeling the soreness of upping my weights but it's GOOD soreness! I like to picture my soreness as the muslces getting firmer and tighter!:drill:
Suzanne 3FC 01-02-2006, 09:21 PM I spent 45 minutes on the treadmill, then I did the Kathy Smith Lift Weights to Lose Weight dvd :workout:
LindaT 01-02-2006, 10:31 PM I spent 45 minutes on the treadmill, then I did the Kathy Smith Lift Weights to Lose Weight dvd :workout:
WTG Miss Suzie Q :bravo: :dancer: Which kathy Smith one do you do.. the First DVD or the Second? I do the first one. :)
Suzanne 3FC 01-02-2006, 11:06 PM I have both, Linda, but I've only used the first one. I'll wait until I start to show signs of boredom before I try the next one :)
MELODY525 01-03-2006, 11:18 AM IT'S VERY DREARY OUT TODAY SO I'LL CHASE AWAY THE BLUES WITH 30 MINS OF PEDALS. IT'S CARDIO DAY. :ebike:
I HAVE MY SCHEDULE OF EXERCISE DAYS AND MENUS PLANNED. ALL I NEED TO DO IS GET TO A STORE!!
HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GREAT "MOVING" DAY
WEIGHT:1791/3/05
ceejay52 01-03-2006, 01:59 PM I decided to check out this thread and like what I see especially in the exercise department. 20 minutes of cardio both Monday and this morning and tonight I'm going to they gym for some resistance training.
LindaT 01-03-2006, 02:13 PM Hiya Ceejay.. nice of you join us. WTG on the workouts. Does it feel great? The blood is pumping, the oxygen is flowing and we all look younger. :carrot:
Mis Mel.. you keep pedaling like that and you are going to burn a hole in the floor. :bike: Smoking hot!
I drug my sorry *** up at 4:25 this morning and got in 46 minutes of cardio ( cannot forget that extra minute :D ) and 20 minutes of upper body weights! Exercise for the day was done before 5:45 and I tell ya that part felt goooood! Of course the part that does not feel good is the muscle I managed to pull in my lower back during tricep presses! Tylenol, hot baths and stretching are on the agenda, but boy oh boy I KNOW tomorrow is going to be a pain.. literally.
Clareh 01-03-2006, 03:31 PM 50 mins cross trainer. Ane may have even manage to stick to sonoma diet principles, although I'm a little in the dark as my book won't be here til the week end)
Have also downloaded my Moonwalk training plan and my first walk is Thursday- 26.2 miles to train for on the 20th May!
Hey Linda, I am so impressed that you got up at 4:25 a.m. to exercise!! Ouch on the muscle ... hope it feels better soon.
Today I did 60 minutes of cardio. 30 minutes on the treadmill with 3 2-minute high-intensity bursts. Then a 28-minute weight-loss interval program on the elliptical, and I added 2 minutes.

Excellent work Clareh. The book does help, but in the meatime think leafy green veggies, tomatoes, eggplant, mushrooms, zucchini, skinless chicken, fish, whole grains like quinoa and bulgur wheat, dried beans as well as most spices in your spice cabinet.
Sf40 and good going for you too! :cheer: I've been getting up at 4:45 for almost 2 years now but was having to split my workout - cardio in AM and weights after work. I found myself making every excuse you can imagine not to do exercises after work - too tired, bad day at work, rotten commute, stomach ach.. etc so I just got tired of it and decided to try it this way.. So far, umm I'd like to say so good but pulling a muscle is my own dumb fault!
Bette k 01-03-2006, 10:30 PM I feel so in adequate when I read about the workouts you are doing, I did the one mile WATP dvd before going to work this morning. Eventually I'll work my way up to what you are getting done in the morning, but I don't think I'll ever make it up at 4am for it :D
I was wondering tho, on the WATP she says it is equal to walking 1 mile, is that true? I'm curious to how much of a workout it really is, I do know that I was sweating before it was done.

No don't you ever feel inadequate, sweetie!! I started out at a similar weight as you are and I started out with 10 or 15 minutes of easy exercise! And now I can do a 73 minute step aerobics tape and not have to stop it! You CAN and you WILL get there. Consistency is the key and one mile WATP is a terrific start! It's a mile alright.
I never thought I'd be hauling my sorry butt out of bed this early either but I got tired of making excuses and not keeping exercise promises I made to myself. I mean, if you cannot believe yourself, who can you believe? I decided my health meant more than a little sleep and I started going to bed earlier and getting up earlier and it's great. I get two hours alone at work before the nutties come in and I can get work done.... and on the flip side I get home at 4:30! :) Never say never because you might just surprise yourself. ;)
DonnaS 01-03-2006, 10:58 PM My mom and dad are keeping my daughter this weekend, so since we have a membership to the local Rec Center that we just aren't getting enough use out of. So starting Saturday, I have both DH and I signed up for a three hour session with a trainer and have reserved the raquetball court for 2 hours.
I like to work out, but I don't like feeling stupid if I am using the equipment wrong, and there are times I just don't know what would work best for me. They will sit with us, and come up with a couple of different exercise routines, one for the gym and one for home, and the gym one will include some different types of swimming that I/we can do with our daughter.
dlzbth 01-04-2006, 12:35 AM Here I am! :) Linda, I really need to get my lazy butt up and move it, move it, move it! LOL I don't want to be one of those who doesn't start caring about all this till the first of the year but it just so happened that the timing after recovery from surgery(s) (yes, tis been one of those years! LOL) I have the "go" from the doctor that it's ok to start the active life again. I want to incorporate the Sonoma plan into my diet as well as for my family too. I love Pilates and just walking with my 'tunes' and I do own a treadmill so I am starting tomorrow morning after drop off of DD to school on the treadmill for the starting out period and I'm working myself up. Now, if weather permits I may just take it to the streets! I am feeling really psyched to this and I have you to thank! :)
Donna
Totally Neck-ed 01-04-2006, 01:10 AM My excersise consists of running after 3 kids: 4,5 and 7. and when the oldest is in school, I exercise my fingers typing messages to you all. Does 1 hour grocery shopping count once a week? :)
Ok, Ok, I suck. My friends have been bugging me forever to go to the gym, but I have no desire to go. I would rather eat sand all day (any calories in sand? ) than go to the gym... sad I know. Hoping the first 20 lbs can come off with diet and then see how much energy I have to loose the next 30 with a gym membership...
MELODY525 01-04-2006, 09:56 AM WOW! PAGE 3 ALREADY! GOOD FOR ALL OF US JUMPING ON LINDA'S 2006 EXERCISE TRAIN!! WOO HOO!!!
NICE TO SEE SO MANY PEOPLE AND GOOD MLUCK TO YOU ALL.
AND A BIG HELLO TO DONNA....AN OLD FRIEND!! GOOD LUCK TOO. MOVING THE BODY IS LINDA'S BUSINESS SO YOU CAME TO THE RIGHT PLACE.
TODAY IS AB AND PEDAL DAY SO I BETTER GET A MOVE ON. TIME IS GETTING AWAY FROM ME ALREADY. I THINK YESTERDAY'S EXERCISE GOT ME REVVED UP FOR CLEANING CLOSETS. MUST HAVE CAUSE ONE IS FINISHED! :encore:
HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE.
Ruthxxx 01-04-2006, 10:01 AM Good Lord! What a bunch of keeners! I feel pretty pathetic. :(
As some of you know, I've had knee surgery but am slowly getting back to using my treadmill. Unfortunately I can manage only 5 to 7 minutes at the moment BUT I'm doing it. I am going to try for two sessions today and am going to do the first one right now. I must look into some upper body exercises.
Kelster2 01-04-2006, 10:29 AM Okay LindaT,
Add me to the exercise train. I've signed up for the Discovery Healthy Body Challenge (Lord, help me!).
Today I did my 1 mile WATP tape. Baby steps for the couch slug, baby steps. My goal is to do my WATP 3 x a week and my pilates 2 x.
Congrats on being the new mod! You so deserve it!:carrot:
MELODY525 01-04-2006, 10:44 AM HEY KEL!!! I SIGNED UP FOR IT TOO ON THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL. SPENT ALL LAST NIGH PRINTING OUT RECIPES AND SHOPPING LISTS! NOW WE CAN PUT OUR SPICES WE MADE TO GOOD USE. GOOD LUCK
GOOD MORNING MISS RUTH...I FIND YOU IN THE STRANGEST PLACES:rofl:
Kelster2 01-04-2006, 10:49 AM Hey Miss Mel!
8 weeks of healthy eating and exercise, are you ready? :dizzy:
FYI: I use your spices pretty much everyday! Thanks for being so wonderful
LindaT 01-04-2006, 11:42 AM :carrot: How nice to have all of you join us.
Donna and Donna.. welcome welcome. :) Good plans and get cracking.
Totally- welcome to the boards. The one thing about running after kids and being a SAHM, which IS a tremendous amount of work, this really isn't considered what is called intentional exercise. This is really what we need to do because even though dealing with kids is tough, it hasn't gotten to your weight goal. As I said in the beginning of this thread, even if we never lose another pound we ALL must exercise for good health. Get involved in some fun activities with your kids.. exercise is good for the entire family. And exercise gives you energy.. diet will make you lose weight but it won't make you healthy alone.
Smoking hot Mel at it again. By the time I am commenting here, I bet you have pedaled your butt off.
Miss Ruthie.. any sort of exercise is fabulous. We all have to start someplace and the important part is you are not making excuses and you are doing it. Hurrah Ruthie!
Kel - oh goody. You are here and I have my prod all ready! Good going on the WATP. One mile is a terrific start. The main thing is you ARE doing it.
One excellent post from Oprah talked about the importance of exercise. I am going to post it here.. Pay attention because she is telling it like it is.
you do not need a personal trainer or a gym to get fit. You need a decision. A decision on your part to take action, which means educating yourself about what to eat and making a commitment to start moving—a half mile, then a mile, two miles, one step at a time. My point is this: If you can't find time to work out, then you don't want to lose the weight. It's simply a matter of physics. So ask yourself what you're willing to do. And if you aren't prepared to exercise and cut down on your volume of food as a way of life, stop wasting time feeling bad about your weight and move on to something else.
And yes I got up this morning and got 60 minutes of exercise before 5:45am. 40 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of lower body weights. And yes it hurt. Damn pulled muslce, but I pushed through it and the increased blood flow and movement did help it feel better at the end, although I swore a lot.
dlzbth 01-04-2006, 12:22 PM Thanks Linda again. Getting cracking! Hey MEL! :) I was wondering about yours and Kel's spices?!?!?!? LOL I'll have to check that challenge out too!
Sandra, nice to meet you! :) ;)
Well, off to the races ladies! Have a great day, k???!?!?! :cb:
Goddess Jessica 01-04-2006, 12:25 PM I would rather eat sand all day.
ROFL! It can't be that bad, can it?
I've been debating the gym membership. I used to belong to the YMCA. I liked it. But... then if you get lazy, there are all sorts of excuses for not getting in the car and going.
I've been thinking about getting a treadmill for the house. Does anyone use one at home?
Totally Neck-ed 01-04-2006, 01:33 PM Ok, Not saying I didn't try, last year I joined curves and guess what.. stayed the same weight. Then that summer I hired a personal trainer, the one who follows your butt whereever you want to go, do. So we went bike riding, gym, weights, cardio, and even a little jogging! ( I know) and guess what! No weight loss. So screw the excersice, I had to fire her butt after 6 months, couldn't affort to hire someone like that with no results. Sure I was stronger, but not worth the agonizing effort to get there and grewl through that stuff. I can't figure it out. Yes, I would rather eat sand. LOL

Jessica, I know what you mean about getting to the gym. I've been using my gym's treadmill and elliptical for at least two days of cardio because there's just something about a moving belt that keeps me moving! :^: But in mid to late December I did not visit the gym so did not get as much cardio in. However, I kept up with my weight workouts because I have weights at home. So the treadmill at home might be a good idea for you.

Sandra, there could be a good reason why you didn't lose weight when exercising: muscle growth. I've been exercising regularly and eating much better since the end of August and my measly weight loss didn't begin until mid November. In fact, I gained weight the first couple of months. But I've lost a lot of inches and I'm getting close to size 12 (was at 16 when I started). Did you measure yourself? That is just as important as, maybe more than, your scale weight. Don't give up on exercise completely! It's so important for health and you will look better when you lose the weight! :carrot:
Day 3 of exercise for 2006: I did a 60-minute lower body and ab workout this morning. Sure hope I can walk tomorrow! :dizzy:
Totally Neck-ed 01-04-2006, 02:31 PM yes, yes, she did all the measurements and everything was the same, it was a really mystery for her and myself. Diet was controlled/modified. bla, blah blah. I am NOT going to be stuck at this weight! So Sonoma is my next thing I will try to budge the scale! Off to download more recipies and get my flank steak out for tonight!
IMSuperMommy 01-04-2006, 02:53 PM Hey LindaT:drill:,
Another one following you over from the journals. I decided I needed all the prodding and harrassing I can get, and well..you offered :D
I've decided to do everything in my power to exercise 7x a week. I know to most people that seems like a lot, but it is just way too easy for me to keep putting it off. I can't say that I really want to, but I know I need to! And I realized today that even going to the gym...that's only maybe an hour out of my day. I know that there will be plenty of days that I will just not feel up to it, but I'm hoping that you and all the people here will kick me in the butt until I get up on my feet and moving!
~Liz
Daily Exercise for January: :flow1:
beckamundo 01-04-2006, 03:16 PM Okay, I'm following in many others foot steps and am gonna get into this also. I will be working out 3x a week w/aerobics, at least 2 days on the bike for at least 2 miles each ride and I would like to do my Body Flex videos at least 3 x a week also. Good luck to all of you and I look forward to checking in here!!
Yeah...I'm also interested in the spices kelster and miss mel are talking about. :)
JessieW 01-04-2006, 05:07 PM Ok, so I am not really planning on doing Sonoma as I don't care for eggplant, mushrooms, OR tomatoes! But I do want to be in on the exercise challenge. I am a lazy bum. I belong to the Y but I haven't been in probably two months. I am sad to be one of those losers who scoot to the gym in January and then trail off! But I know I should get back. It's not that I haven't exercised in that long, I have been doing WATP. But I know I need to be lifting weights as well. Get rid of the arm flab while I am young!!
I do solemnly declare that I will do the 1 mile WATP tonight after dinner!!
Jessie
happytx 01-04-2006, 05:33 PM I turn 30 in 129 days, and Im counting down because Im excited, not depressed. :-) So this is great, I see so many faces I already know, and cant wait to get to know the new ones!! :-) I plan to work on speed this year, with shorter mileage and races, So I plan to run 4x per week, 3-4 miles each time, and lift weights now that I have all that extra time that I already carved out for exercise when I was training in the fall, i can fill some of it with weights again, and Yoga 3 times a week. So theres the plan, oh and alternate some of that yoga with pilates. Feel free to cattle prod me when need be. I already follow a diet similar to this one, except I dont drink wine, something in the fermenting process gives me a terrible headache, even with one glass, but I do love it, and miss it. :-)
Clareh 01-04-2006, 05:44 PM Hey, I read your beautiful journal about your last marathon. I'm poer walking one in May so it really hit home. Just thought I'd let you know you'd quietly inspired someone.
happytx 01-04-2006, 06:06 PM Awe, well Thank You so much, that was so sweet of you to say. I am truly flattered, and so honored to have been able to give a little inspiration. I wish you the best of luck with yours! :-)
Bette k 01-04-2006, 09:42 PM Today was day 2 of WATP 1 mile, and I added the resitance band. the walking didn't do me in, but the resistance band did, my shoulders are sore right now. Guess I need a little more upper body stuff. I'm going to officially start the Sonoma Diet this weekend, but I have started taking my lunch to work. (School lunches haven't gotten any better over the years)
LindaT 01-04-2006, 11:20 PM Ok, so I am not really planning on doing Sonoma as I don't care for eggplant, mushrooms, OR tomatoes!
Jessie
 Jess.. now where in the book does it say you MUST eat eggplant, mushrooms or tomatoes? You can eat those and a lot of other yummy foods. You are just used to me eating that stuff! I promise not to make you eat stuff you don't want to, but I do encourage you to stick around and maybe see what other people are eating.. you are in for a surprise. ;)
So did you do you WATP? Remember I am armed with a zappper!
LindaT 01-04-2006, 11:31 PM Sherry.. good going on the workout. but I hope you can walk. The past few days believe me I've wondered about that myself.
Liz from the journals and Miss Bec too.. I am honored! I'll look for the spices listing. Hey I found them.. will post in recipe section
Happygirl - the marathon goddess!! You keep running like you have been doing and you are going to melt into a skinnie minnie!! I don't drink wine either. I've tried to like red wine but no go. bah and I TOLD ya a million times you are inspiring. ... she never listened to me, the stubborn broad :p
Betty - awesome workout. I think some post workout soreness ( not pain) is out bodies way of saying thank you for treating me right. I know that sounds goofy, but it works for me. :D
Now everyone hurry off to bed for a good night's sleep which is very important!! Sweet Dreams! <==all except for me cause I have work to do
futurefilmmaker05 01-05-2006, 01:11 AM Over the years I have been unable to stick with any workout routine on a regular basis. But recently I found one that I actually enjoy doing and look forward to everyday: Dance Dance Revolution. I'm sure many of you have heard about it. It's a very fun way to get a good workout. Go to the DDR Freak (http://www.ddrfreak.com) website to learn more!
As long as you really enjoy the exercise you're doing, then you'll probably stay with it. If it's something you dread and continually put off, then you should probably find another type of exercise. Remember, it should be an enjoyable experience! I've also found that when I set unrealistic goals it never lasts. For example, at one point in time I had planned out a daily workout routine of various videos. It went something like this: Tae-Bo, then Hit the Spot Abs, then weightlifting, then I Want Those Buns!, then Stress Relief Yoga. All of those consecutively everyday. Yeah, that lasted about a day! If I would've spread them out over the week I might of done it, but doubtful since I don't like workout videos. Maybe because the perfect bodies of the instructors depress me. Maybe I'm just lazy. I dunno. :) So what I'm saying is: find something you really enjoy and continually push yourself, but not to an extreme.
Ok. So I plan to start going back to the gym, not waste my money on it as of tomorrow. And get the free orientation that came with the membership. Plus, I'm going to start and sign up for at least one class at my gym that will help me keep motivated to go regularly and get off my butt.
LindaT 01-05-2006, 11:29 AM Good morning girlies.. its way past 7am in the west and that means a LOT of you have been up for hours and I see no one has posted their exercise for the morning. Don't make me come over there and get you!!! :D Get busy and get busting your butt. I want to see some sweating posted here.. toot sweet!!
I was up at 4:25, got in 50 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of upper body weights and got out the door for work at 6:30. I cut back on the poundage on the upper body weights since I injured myself and that is helping. I wasn't swearing this morning.. only wincing. :p
Who's next?
It is so great to see everyone's exercise plans and accomplishments!
I am pretty sore from yesterday's lower body workout, but the stiffness wore off as I moved more.:carrot: Was able to do my 60-minute cardio workout today: 15 minutes on the stationary bike, 15 minutes on the treadmill, and 30 on the elliptical, all with high-intensity bursts.
Clareh 01-05-2006, 01:39 PM It's snowing here:snow4:
And I still have to walk 4.5 miles as my training partner (who also has a cattle prod!) won't let me rearrange.
Hopefully I'll feel good about it in an hour!:carrot:
IMSuperMommy 01-05-2006, 01:59 PM Day 2 under my belt...today was weight/strength training. Would have loved to have done the treadmill as DH is in the doghouse right now and I am not a very happy camper. But I had a parent/toddler gymnastics class this morning too, so I just ran out of time.
I also did another 20 minutes on the treadmill last night while oldest DS was in his gymnastics class. Yay me!
~Liz
Days of exercise for Jan.: :flow1: :flow1:
MELODY525 01-05-2006, 02:45 PM Hope everyone's aches and pains are going away!!

MELODY525 01-05-2006, 03:39 PM Set Three-Month Goals
From "Get Fit This Year"--FROM WOMAN'S DAY MAGAZINE Every season, write down your goals for the next three months. For each goal, include the following:
• What do you want to accomplish? GET HEALTHY AND LOSE WEIGHT
• What are your reasons for wanting to do this? I ET MYSELF GO THESE LAST 8 MONTHS AGAIN.
• What result are you hoping to achieve? LOSE 5LBS MINIMUM AND GET AN EXERCISE SCHEDULE GOING.
• Is this goal realistic for you? I THINK IT IS AND SPENT TIME RESEARCHING MY PHYSICAL ABILITIES.

I think that sounds neat. You'll have to tell us how you like the cookbook!

Snort.. well yeah!
dlzbth 01-05-2006, 04:17 PM You guys crack me up! LOL  :lol3:
Donna
Not only futile but useless as well. The prod works across oceans and mountain ranges, through heat and cold, till death (or batteries) do us part. Wonder if I can organise a shortage of prod batteries from downunder and worldwide........... :chin: thinking... thinking,,, thinking... no that idea won't work :hyper: thinking........ :stars: ouch, hey Linda that hurt!
Okay, outa here before that damned prod gets back.
happytx 01-05-2006, 04:39 PM Well thank you Miss Mel, and you are the first person to wish me a happy b-day!!
I got up this morning and did my pilates routine on my reformer thingy (knock off from QVC) And then lifted some weights, i did my squats with my weighted ball, and my upper body exercises. Tonight its off to run 3 miles!! :-) Its sunny and beautifyl here, so Im taking advantage of that as long as I can!
Have a great day ladies, and woohoo tomorrow is Friday!!! :-)
Kelster2 01-05-2006, 04:59 PM I had a rocky day yesterday so no exercise:(
BUT (or maybe I should say BUTT?) I'm not going to let it stop today's. Back to the WATP BEFORE my rear hits the couch.
Let's see, 6 days til surgery. If I do 30 minutes or more a day, I'll feel pretty good about myself.
Hey LindaT! Missy Ruthie does a sticky in the fat chicks on the beach with an excercise challenge that we can go an update daily. Can we do that and you can crown the exercise queen at the end of the month?
LindaT 01-05-2006, 05:00 PM great idea... I'll do that right now
dlzbth 01-05-2006, 05:07 PM Ok, not to brag but this week has been perfect for getting back to fitness! Yesterday and day before were combination of cardio and strength and today I just finished one mile on the treadmill in 20 minutes time on a high intensity speed. :cheer: :tread: :sumo: :barbell:  Going to buy the book this weekend and get started on the eating as well. Maybe you are thinking ONLY 20 MINUTES?? Well, let me tell you that's pretty darn good for not being on that thing since MAY! LOL
Shad, I agree with you about the prod but if it works, it works! LOL:o ;) :carrot:
Ok, where were those spices??? OH MEL!!!!! :mag: :blah: :write: :thanks:
I was thinking... I know that is dangerous but maybe I should of measured myself before all this! UGH I'll do that this evening. At least I'll be close it's still within the first week. RIGHT??
TTFN :wave::hug:
LindaT 01-05-2006, 05:16 PM Sherry, Liz, Mel, Miss Happy and Donna. good going!! Exercise and those butts (or in my case guts  ) are soon going to be melted puddles on the floor. The rest of you great plans... now go DO them!! :D
Oh Donna. I posted the spices in the recipes section.. doesn't any one ever pay attention to me?

Donna
Bette k 01-05-2006, 09:47 PM Ok, I'm still doing my 1 mile WATP dvd in the morning, that is 3 days in a row now, I'm so proud of myself. :carrot: Not for doing the exercise but for getting up early to do it, I'm not exactly a morning person. This morning my son had to get up to go in to school early and run for wrestling, he watched me for a while but I told him if he laughed I was going to punch him.
Just one question--Is it ok to do the WATP or any other exercise barefoot? I really hate wearing shoes if I can avoid it.
JessieW 01-06-2006, 10:22 AM Sorry I did not stop in yesterday! But YES I did do the WATP 1 mile on Wednesday!! (25 minutes) No exercise yesterday, although I did take a walk across Vanderbilt campus with my hubby so I had SOME movement! It is going to be an insane weekend for me...but I CAN get up tomorrow morning and get my butt moving before the scrapbook party.
Jessie
Minutes so far this month: 65
ceejay52 01-06-2006, 10:24 AM Hello every one. You are doing great.
I did 50 minutes on the air bike yesterday but no weights. I think I've been cheating myself on food. I used a food scale to weigh every thing yesterday and had an anormous bit of food that came in at 1500 calories.
MELODY525 01-06-2006, 12:07 PM I AM GOING RIGHT NOW TO ORDER THE 2 BOOKS. THOUGHT IT OVER AND SAID WHY NOT?! I BOUGHT EVERYTHING ELSE! I LOVE THAT THERE ARE SO MANY OF US GOING TO MAKE A CHANGE IN OUR WAY OF LIFE THIS YEAR. :encore:
I WAS WONDERING WHEN I WOULD GET THE EXERCISING IN TODAY AND THEN THE DR CANCELLED!:carrot: SO......
I AM OFF TO PEDAL AND IT'S AB DAY.
HAPPY FRIDAY AND HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.
dlzbth 01-06-2006, 12:14 PM WTG MELODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bravo: :bravo:
I have to be at my DDs school today for a postponed Christmas party for her class so I'll post my success later! Have a great day everyone!
I think I over-did the cardio yesterday ... As part of my time on the treadmill, I decided to do the "fitness test" program. After that, I jumped on the elliptical. I really started getting tired about half-way through but pushed myself to finish. And I felt sick all day yesterday! The lesson: Next time, do the fitness test at the end of the workout, not in the middle.
I am ok, but a little tired, today. Today's plan is for a 60-minute upper body workout. I'll see how I do with that. I may need to cut it short because my husband and I plan to swim this evening after work. We usually swim for 30-45 minutes.
Have a great weekend everyone!!
Suzanne 3FC 01-06-2006, 12:20 PM Wow, everyone is doing great and I'm feeling all energetic just reading your posts! Just to check in, I'm on day 4 of the flu, so that's why I'm not exercising. I can't wait to get back in here with you guys!
Keep up the good work!!
MELODY525 01-06-2006, 12:58 PM YAY!!! ORDERED THE SONOMA DIET BOOK, THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET COOKBOOK AND 3FAT CHICKS ON A DIET BOOK!!! BECAUSE WE REALLY ARE "ALL IN IT TOGETHER"!!!!!
THANKS DONNA!!!
SUZ~ HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON!! FLU CANNOT BE FUN!!!
Kelster2 01-06-2006, 02:32 PM Hey, MEL let us know how the books are, okay?
Oh, and if you're going to start the Sonoma, I'll gladly give you my eggplant. Free of charge even!
No WATP last night due to reasons in my journal. I did do 100 of Adrianna's crunches.
DonnaS 01-06-2006, 04:22 PM So for the last two days, I have gotten my butt up and an ungodly hour every morning, and done the Kathy Smith Project you work out tape, I really like it.
Tomorrow we have the meeting with the trainer, I think we are going to go over when the center opens and get some water walking in.
IMSuperMommy 01-06-2006, 04:33 PM Today was my day on the treadmill. I did 30 minutes, which at the pace I was going would have been about 1.5 miles I believe. It was pretty cool..about halfway through, around the 15 minutes mark I sorta found my zone  I probably could have gone another mile or so but I was afraid my feet would realllly hurt. I think I either need thicker socks or some new shoes :o I also did 5 minutes on the stair stepper...I don't usually do this machine but my friend told me to try it and wow...that hurt  But it was sorta fun (aside from the burn) and I will probably keep trying it and hopefully build up some more time.
Tomorrow is supposed to be strength training..but I will be at the other Y (our town has 2) and I'm not sure what machines they have so it may be another cardio day instead.
~Liz

happytx 01-06-2006, 05:55 PM Hello Ladies!!
Sounds like everyone is fantastic on this bright and beautiful Friday!! Well almost everyone, hope you feel better Suz.
Normally I take Fridays off, but I have been serverly whipped at work today, so in an hour I am headed out of this place, and Im going home and walking my dogs in hopes that some time with my pooches outdoors, will help me get past all this crap from work, and start my weekend fresh! So theres the plan, and tomorrow its up bright and early for a run and some yoga with the hubby!!
Hope everyone has a nice friday evening!!
Bette k 01-07-2006, 12:10 AM Got my 1 mile WATP in this morning, that makes 5 miles this week so far:carrot: I'm thinking about trying the 2 mile tomorrow morning. I've been noticing that I was feeling a little depressed in the afternoons, then in today's paper they had an article about seasonal depression and how the sun hasn't been out for over 2 weeks. No wonder I'm feeling it. Id doesn't look like it's going to be sunny for the next week either. Now I know what it is I can fight off the chocolat urges
MELODY525 01-07-2006, 10:03 AM ABS AND PEDALS YESTERDAY AND JUST PEDALS TODAY. I HAD SET IT UP FOR WEEKENDS OFF BUT I'LL SEE IF I CAN GO THE DISTANCE......:moped:
IN FEBRUARY I NEED TO ADD RESPIRATORY EXERCISES IN ONCE I GET THIS SCHEDULE DOWN PAT.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE :encore:
IMSuperMommy 01-07-2006, 10:32 AM Getting ready to leave for the gym in about an hour. Still don't want to really do this LOL. But, I need to get info about *hopefully* having DS#1's birthday party :woo: at the Y so it will serve double duty.
Arms are still a little sore so it will probably be treadmill:tread: or bike:ebike: or bike stair stepper thingy (what the heck ARE those things called anyways??). Shooting for at least 30 minutes, maybe more if I find my zone again!
~Liz:cb:

Clareh 01-07-2006, 11:20 AM Day off yesterday and 50 mins on cross trainer today.
I have a new dvd to try in the morning- Nell McAndrew, who is awesome- do you guys have her in your neck of the woods??
LindaT 01-07-2006, 12:40 PM It does my old heart good to see all of you ladies taking such good care of yourselves! :carrot: Fridays are my day off of exercise, so I got to sleep in until 5:30, which was just lovely!
Clareh, I'll have to take a look at Nell. The name isn't familiar here. My current favorites are Charlene Prickett, Kathy Smith and Gin Miller.
Kel, I swear I am going to get you to eat eggplant and LIKE it if it's the last thing I do.
Bette.. You are doing so well. Since you are just starting out, why don't you tell the ladies who might be reading how the exercise has made you feel.. your energy level.. etc. I am sure lots would benefit by hearing this. Sorry you are feeling blue. SAD is a real issue in the winter, that's for sure.
Mel Pedal that tushie off, sweetie.
Liz, it's okay to not want to do this. Heck I have to tell you I never WANT to get up a 4:30 and workout.. I am not insane. but the key is you are doing this.. and that is what matters!! YAY
Happy girl - you take those babies for a nice walk, breath the crisp air, look at nature and give thanks for all the beautiful things you'll see!! I am sure that will help clear the brain.
Donna.. heheh ungodly hour is one I am also familair with, but I bet you feel great that youare doing something wonderful for you!!
Poor Suzanne.. feel better. Think Chicken soup with lots of onions and garlic.
Sherry - great workout plans.. you put me to shame with all you are doing!:cheer:
Ceejay. great workout! Bet you feel just great.
Jessie - good for you for the WATP!! Leslie makes my ears hurt  but more power to those of you that can tune her out  Her workout is a good one!
I think I got everyone.. I hope I did. I am still working on my first coffee :coffee: of the day and my brain is still foggy. I just love coming here in the mornings and seeing how well you girls have done..
Everyone take a bow!!:encore:
DonnaS 01-07-2006, 01:20 PM Donna.. heheh ungodly hour is one I am also familair with, but I bet you feel great that youare doing something wonderful for you!!
The irony is that I'm not a morning person, but it's the only time that works, I've seriously tried to work it all angles.
45 minutes water walking today = 3 mile hike
45 minutes weight training
All in all a good day.

Me too.. I never use to be a morning person either. I use to say I have had morning sickness for years  But now that it is a habit, I adore mornings.. althought the getting UP part is still tough!! It's so peaceful in the mornings.. no one else is up, the neighborhood is quiet, the hustle and bustle of the day hasn't begun yet. It's almost like getting some quiet meditation as well as exercise first thing.
And yup.. mornings are the only time I cannot make an excuse and the only time I was able to make a consistant change.
Great workout for today, btw!
DonnaS 01-07-2006, 02:28 PM I think that my goal is going to be to take the weekends "off", but not really, because I think that we are going to start going over to the Rec Center and water walking on Saturday and Sunday mornings, we can take Brianna with us and still get a good workout. My legs are seriously feeling it now, later in the day, but I feel good.
Then if we want to do any weights, we can pop her in the day care at the center and workout on the weights, otherwise my mom and dad have agreed to watch her at least one night a week, and we can go over together.
Sherry - great workout plans.. you put me to shame with all you are doing!:cheer:
I have to say that I did not do my upper body workout yesterday. Just didn't feel good and the way I feel today, I think I am coming down with the flu (husband had it last weekend). But my husband and I swam for about 35 minutes last night.
Saturday is usually a day off from exercising and I considered doing my upper body workout today, but I think I'll just rest instead. Husband and I usually ride bikes Sunday morning, either along the beach or a river trail, so hopefully I'll feel up to that. :bike:
ceejay52 01-07-2006, 04:41 PM I'm making it my goal to do cardio 7 days and weight training for 5 days. If I don't do it I'll quit doing it. The cardio may just be for 30 minutes on day's 6 and 7 though. Yesterday was 50 minutes of cardio and 15 minutes of weights.
I've increased my hand weights from 5 pounds to 8 pounds and my biceps are feeling it today. I bought some ankle weights 2.5 pounds but I'm taking those back and getting the 5 pounds. The smaller weight just didn't seem heavy enough.
LindaT I have a question about soup. How big of a bowl do we need?

Ceejay, well generally stick with the bowl that holds 2 cups, as per the plan. but if you have a soup with a lot of broth and veggies you might need something bigger.
Good increase in the weights. we must keep challenging ourselves to improve, even if the first few times are tough. You'll do fine
DonnaS 01-08-2006, 11:45 AM No workout today, hubby has a wicked sinus headache this morning, so I'm on baby duty while he tries to get rid of it.
MELODY525 01-08-2006, 12:41 PM :ebike: GOING FOR ANOTHER 30 MINUTES TODAY. i FIGURED I'D MAKE THE TIME FOR ME!!:carrot:

HAVE A NICE DAY AND A GREAT MOVIN' WEEK!!

Mel, if you to the My account area of Amazon and check the pending orders, you should be able to delete the book that is holding things up, or change your shipping preferences to get part of them now.. Don't wait that long for the books!
LindaT 01-08-2006, 01:30 PM Morning Ladies,
I only see two people here this morning... don't make me come find the rest of you and drag your butts in here! It won't be pretty.
Mel, good going on the workout!! Always make time for you because if you don't take care of you, who will?
Donna.. it is almost with every breath I take that I give thanks for being single. Well almost.. It might be nice to have a man around for chores and stuff. :D Give him some Nyquil, knock him out ;) and then put in a tape or go for a nice walk.
This morning has been 73 minutes of step aerobics for me. My tape complained a little this morning so that concerns me. Sigh. I cannot have worn it out already!!! Later on today, upper body weights.
Come on the rest of you..let's hear about the sweating!
jules1216 01-08-2006, 01:36 PM linda--I think my vcr died---I am going to have to convert my vcr tapes to dvd and invest in a dvd player!!! The Slim-n-Tone is only open Sat until noon and closed on Sundays!!!!!
Somebody needs to do a 24 hour exercise channel so that anyone can turn to it and get a good workout at anytime!!!
Our wooded property is pretty hilly and we have trails already--I think I'll get dh and the dogs to go for a long hike.
MELODY525 01-08-2006, 02:09 PM LINDA:hug: THANKS!
OK I WENT AND SEPARATED THE ORDER. SONOMA SHOULD BE COMING NEXT WEEK OR SO.:carrot: AND THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET COOK BOOK TOO.:carrot:
Clareh 01-08-2006, 03:05 PM Pretty much a day off for me- 2.5 mile walk while chatting to my darling boyfriend.
IMSuperMommy 01-08-2006, 03:24 PM *phewwwwwwwwwww* I did it.
I REALLY REALLY struggled with going to the gym today. Weekends are harder anyway but I really found today to be *almost* impossible. I personally prefer working out in the morning but on Sundays my gym doesn't open till noon, so it was so tempting to just skip it. Of course, in my head I was trying to rationalize it..you know, the "I'll do x here at home" or "Tomorrow I'll do x plus x" type of thing. But somehow I managed to suck it up and dragged myself out of the house anyways...am glad that it is over for today though!

:flow1: :flow1: :flow1: :flow1: :flow1:
Still not feeling so great, but much better than yesterday and Friday so my husband and I rode our bikes along a river trail for about 40 minutes. :bike: That's a little shorter than normal, but now that the holidays are over we will continue to add distance each week.
ceejay52 01-08-2006, 04:31 PM Uh Oh LindaT's going to get that cattle prod.
I did 30 minutes of aerobics yesterday and will be doing thirty minutes of aerobics today. I need to do some weights.
DonnaS 01-08-2006, 06:37 PM I got in 30 minutes of my Kathy Smith tape while baby and daddy were sleeping, I was really looking forward to swimming, but this is the next best thing.
Bette k 01-08-2006, 11:25 PM OK, I get the cattle prod, I didn't get my walking in on Saturday, but I did go spend 4 hours at the wrestling meet, does watching a bunch of high school wrestlers sweat count?
I did get up this morning to get my mile in before church, and I found I felt a lot better doing it than I did Saturday when I didn't get it done. If I can get up in time I'm going to try the 2 mile one. I did a little preview of it this morning, just running through it in fast forward to see what I have to look forward to, my daughter was watching and trying to do it, she kept complaining about there being no sound.
I'm going to ask again, is there any problems with doing this bare foot? I just don't like wearing shoes in the house if I don't have to, I'm a barefoot girl.
LindaT 01-08-2006, 11:45 PM  Bette. consider yourself zapped, but the good thing you have realized how much better you felt exercising than not exercising. That is an important realization! As far as barefoot, I know some tapes like TAebo are okay with it and maybe for some mild walking with things like WATP it might not be causing you troubles. As you progress with different cardio, you will need to be wearing shoes for safety sake and to help prevent injury. Might be a good idea to get used to them now as well as not tempt fate about injuries. You might try going to google.com and doing some research on your own, because as far as I know shoes really are necessary. .. but I don't know everything. :dizzy:
Donna.. good for you.. glad the babies both slept. :D
Ceejay.. good for you too. No prod :p
Sherry a bike ride is great exercise.. bet it felt good to get out there and commune with nature! I wish I had a bike and a place to ride as well as company.
Liz.. good for you for going. We ALL have days that its a struggle, me included but the important thing is that you pushed through and did it! :carrot:
Clareh.. a walk is a nice light workout. What matters most is that you moved! Good!
Jules. I too need to take a crowbar to my wallet one of these days and get a vcr/dvd combo and join the decade. I also need a bigger TV set because minenis 19" and I cannot see it well anymore  Agreed on the exercise channel. This is how you can make your fortune. Go do it!!
I did my weights later today, finished my cooking for the week, swept and mopped the kitchen and vacuumed the whole house. Now I need to not mess it up because it should walways be this nice.. just don't look at the messy master bathroom.
dlzbth 01-09-2006, 09:20 AM It's MONDAY! YES finally I can feel like I can get serious again. I guess I need the prod. Linda. THIS Donna hasn't been so good. :(
Donna
Kelster2 01-09-2006, 09:50 AM Happy Monday all!
Okay, let's see: Friday 100 of Adrianna's crunches. Saturday was 3 hours of hard cleaning (moving furniture, etc. Try that one handed! LOL! AND I was dripping with sweat when it was all over) and yesterday was the 1 miler WATP dvd.
Not my goals, obviously, but at least I'm making a conserted effort to try SOMETHING every day.
happytx 01-09-2006, 10:08 AM OK lets see, posting on the weekend, seems to never work out, i get on here get distracted and before I know it I have run out of time, and need to hit the road. So lets see, Saturday, i didnt run, zap me please, I dont know why I havent started that back yet, first I had to wait a couple of weeks, and now Im just being lazy, I have however walked lots! I walked Saturday, then again on Sunday with my dogs, probably Im not running because my oldest dog had leg surgery last sping and he can no longer run, and the weather has been so nice Ive been taking him on long walks instead, anyway I also did an hour of pilates last night. Have a great Monday everyone!!
MELODY525 01-09-2006, 10:17 AM HELLO MISS HAPPY TX, I SEE YOUR GODDESS EGG LIGHT IS ON! HAPPY MONDAY.
HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE! GOT UP EARLY AND EXERCISED BEFORE GETTING READY FOR THE DRS APPT. TODAY. MY WEIGH-IN WAS NOT GOOD AS YOU CAN SEE. UP ANOTHER POUND. BETTER GET THE FOOD AND WATER THING DOWN TO WHERE IT BELONGS. ESPECIALLY THE SALT!
HAVE A GREAT DAY:carrot:
LindaT 01-09-2006, 11:24 AM It's MONDAY! YES finally I can feel like I can get serious again. I guess I need the prod. Linda. THIS Donna hasn't been so good. :(
Donna
Donna, why do you think Monday is the only day to get serious again? EVERY day is a day to get serious. Your body has no idea whether is it Friday Tuesday, Christmas Eve, Halloween or Monday.. it processes calories the same way every day.. no get out of jail free card on weekends! Considered yourself prodded.
:p
LindaT 01-09-2006, 11:35 AM Morning ladies.
I am mainlining coffee right now so bare with me while I become human. :o
I got in 93 minutes yesterday and 70 minutes this morning and my body is very happy. Of course it would be happier 20 pounds lighter, but I digress.... :p
Donna - I already prodded your butt so I expect the next post to be much better. :D
Kel, you did the best you could with a busted up paw so good for you. That all we can do!
Happy, well maybe you need a break from running.. what about doing something else for a bit..water exercise, video tapes, riding a bike? I am glad you walked though. Movement is good!
Mel, the scale is a p*** poor measure of progress so do not let it determine how you are feeling about yourself. Do you feel more energetic. It will come. don't worry, but you are right.. all the exercise isn't going to take off poundage when we eat more than we need.
God, already some dimwit woman annoyed me this morning.. at work, not here. You write notes to tell people what to do and the don't even read them!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr I called her and pointed it out and all I got was "Oh" SMACK!
I need to go slurp coffee and make another post. so I'll come back later.
dlzbth 01-09-2006, 12:52 PM Ok Linda! I did it! I did my time on the treadmill. This week I will continue my 20+ minutes and each week I will increase it five or more at a time. So, no need for more prodding (is that even a word??? LOL) I feel very good now. :) :strong:
JessieW 01-09-2006, 01:00 PM Weekend--managed to go over on calories both Friday and Sunday. :( But I did get to the gym on Saturday and did the treadmill and bike. I could tell I hadn't been doing that kind of workout because the endurance was not there! I had to push and shove to do a combined 30 minutes. Planned on doing weights but then realized I had to be at church RIGHT then for a rehearsal! Whoops! I need to just get me some light weights to work with at home.
Those who do weight training videos--which ones do you use?
Jessie
Sherry a bike ride is great exercise.. bet it felt good to get out there and commune with nature! I wish I had a bike and a place to ride as well as company.
I really enjoy exercising outdoors. It's fun and doesn't seem like something I "should" do. And it seems that our weekly bike rides are the only time my husband and I can have nice, uninterrupted conversations! But there is some effort involved; we don't live close enough to the beach or any rivers to ride there so we have to put the bike rack on the car, load the bikes, and drive there.
Today it's back to the grind ... 60 minute lower body and ab workout. For next week, I am considering changing my routine so it doesn't take so long. Plus, I think it's a good idea to change exercises to continually challenge muscles. But I need the weekend to do some research and figure it out.
Happy Monday everyone!
DonnaS 01-09-2006, 02:56 PM I didn't get my workout in this morning, woke up with a major sinus headache (thank you hubby), took some sinus medicine went back to bed for an hour.
But I am stopping at the Rec Center tonight on my way home, I brought my clothes with me.
Clareh 01-09-2006, 05:25 PM 4.5 mile walk in 1hr 10 mins. Felt good today and got me glowing.
tearjerker 01-09-2006, 05:57 PM Okay I know I haven't posted my exercise in the past WEEK, but I've been really good!
I went to the Y on Wednesday and Thursday and did 20 minutes on the exercise bike...I would have done 30 but I ran out of time before work! On Friday I didn't make it to the Y so I did a pretaped Denise Austin Daily Workout...Saturday I did a pretaped Denise Austin Lite workout and also a pilates workout (first time actually doing pilates and I've always wanted to...and let me tell you I absolutely LOVED it!!! I want to join a class! Yesterday I spent ALL day cleaning the house...and I do mean ALL day with little breaks, mostly for meals...and then today I did strength training at the Y...and just today for the first time my muscles are sore! I think a soak is in order tonight...and I'll be ready to hit it again tomarrow
;)
IMSuperMommy 01-09-2006, 07:21 PM Does chasing a dog around the neighborhood for about an hour count as exercise?? Cause that is all I have done today as far as exercise. I had some calls to make this morning, so I didn't go to the gym...I should have put them off and done them after going to the gym =\ At least I was motivated then. Came home from getting DS#1 from preschool and had to call and wait for the tow truck to come and get my car..still haven't heard what is wrong with it. Misfit doggie has appointment in an hour to get her stitches taken out..hoping I don't have to take the kids with me. One is getting tired and the other is SOOOO whiny and mouthy today. I just want to call it a day and soak in the tub!
Will definitely double up on the effort tomorrow..eating has been horrible today as well =\
~Liz (in sore need of "the prod")
:flow1: :flow1: :flow1: :flow1: :flow1:
Bette k 01-09-2006, 07:42 PM Ok, the prod helped a lot. Got my lazy butt out of bed this morning and did the 2 mile WATP.:carrot: Then this afternoon my DD wanted to do the 1 mile WATP. She is 4 and so cute walking with mommy. Such a smug expression on her face. So that makes 3 miles for today. I don't know if I can do it everyday, but I will probibly keep at least the 2 miiles in the morning.
Well it's off to a wrestling meet, the kids are all looking forward to me being there.
DonnaS 01-09-2006, 09:16 PM I got 45 minutes in on the treadmill at the gym, and swam for 1/2 hour.
ceejay52 01-09-2006, 11:04 PM I'm taking a rest day today cause I just didn't have the energy. Linda, I'll need that prod tomorrow cause one slack day means no other day's for me.
MELODY525 01-10-2006, 08:53 AM LINDA I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT BOTH "HERE & THERE". BEING ACCOUNTABLE HAS MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE. DID MY PEDALS AND I AM OFF AGAIN TO THE DRS. I WILL NOT LET THIS WEEK GET AWAY FROM ME:carrot: :carrot:
dlzbth 01-10-2006, 09:09 AM Good Morning! Mel, I see your egg light on! I am proud of you and the rest who are sticking to your guns and doing so well. I am going to do my Pilates DVD now so I'll post more afterwards.. Till then!
Donna
LindaT 01-10-2006, 11:51 AM Donna.. prodding is a lot more than a word around these parts.  Good going on the treadmill! and later today we want to hear you did you pilates.
Jess good going on the gym. The endurance WILl come. Patience my dear. It takes time to build up. Consistency is key. I use Kathy Smith's Timesaver Lift weights to lose weight video.
Sherry. - come do my ab workout. please.
DonnaS - Great workouts!! I wish I had access to a pool. I miss it.
Clareh. nice workout. We can see you glowing from here!
Tammie - Excellent workouts and I can smell your enthusiasm!!
Liz, liz liz.. Mmm needs the prod huh? Exercise for most of us has been something we've done "whenever" in the past. When we can find the time, that is and somehoe we never are able to find the time. But we do manage to find the time to talk on the phone, sit on our butts and watch TV etc.. It's all about prioritizing... what matters to you most? You have to schedule this in.. every single day!! Most people find they eat better on days they exercise because who wants to screw up an excellent exercise day by eating crap? I know it helps me immensely. So get back on the horse right this second, but don't forget this feeling because next time you are tempted to put off the exercise, you might think twice. Prod off.
Bette brava!!:carrot: So you wrestle in your spare time? WOW!!
Ceejay, prod is waiting for you... I'll remember!
Miss Mel.. pedal that butt off.. YAY!
This morning was 46 minutes of step aerobics and 20 minutes of upper body weights. My tiny pea brain is still having trouble wrapping itself around the idea that I have to drop back on the weights because I tried with my normal heavier ones again this morning for one exercise and came this close to hurting myself again.. At least it was a different muscle this time. Gad. Stubborn is spelled LINDA today I think.
Go out and make today a sweaty good day!
tearjerker 01-10-2006, 12:22 PM Went to the Y and did 25 min on the recombent bike :ebike:...my knee was hurting a little this morning to walk on it and the recombent bike was just what I needed to get moving but take the pressure off of my knee...I'm still a little sore from lifting weights, but that just means I'm building muscle. I'm thinking tonight I'll see if I've got any pilates workouts on the dvr from this week yet and work that to see if I can work out the soreness in my muscles. Only way to get'r done :carrot:
ceejay52 01-10-2006, 02:13 PM Did get up this morning but only got in 8 minutes of aerobics. Will do more tonight after work. No prod needed, but thanks for having it ready.
dlzbth 01-10-2006, 02:26 PM Yes, Yes, Yes! I DID do my Pilates! :strong: :strong: I feel good! :)
DonnaS 01-10-2006, 02:48 PM There is a pilates class at the Rec Center tonight, that I'm going to try. I didn't workout persey this morning, unless you count playing with at 14th month old at 3:30 am, because she just decided to. ;)
Clareh 01-10-2006, 04:39 PM 4.5 mile fast walk. New trainers- my little toe is one big blister.
Tomorrow is my deay off (hurray!) so am trying to help my feet heal with a hot bath.
Pilates rocks, I don't do it anymore because of time, but it really helps you relax as well as tone. There is a 'dynamic hatha' yoga class held in a church hall 3 mins from my door on Mondays which I'm thinking of trying but it sounds a bit scary. Has anyone tried it?

Started TOM today and had horrid cramps and headache and of course didn't feel like exercising. But I did anyway and I'm glad because cramps are gone now. Ten minutes on the stairmaster and 30 on the elliptical.
LauraB 01-10-2006, 06:41 PM Can I join you please. I have been doing ok with food since August and just started exercising last week. I joined a training center, did and hour with a trainer last week. Then I had to work out of town and didn't get back till yesterday. I did a basic bar class (9lbs) and 1/2 hour on the elliptical. Today was 20 minutes cardio and easy on the weights because it hurts, so I just did 24 lifts on the gravitron and some sit ups.
I feel all sore, but my DH, the workout king, says that's good pain and I should be happy about it.
I am going to try to get to a beginning weights class tomorrow, but it's very early, so I'm not too sure.
It has been several years since I last worked out and I have never worked out with this much fat on me. I feel clumsy and out of form and stamina. I know all this can change and I am hopeful.
Laura
Bette k 01-10-2006, 07:26 PM Bette brava!!:carrot: So you wrestle in your spare time? WOW!!
I wish I wrestled, those kids are in such good shape. And they lose the weight too. It's not like it used to be with them doing all kinds of unhealthy things to cut weight, they work it off, and eat healthy. There are all kinds of rules about how low their body fat can go and also about hydration.
My son is the wrestler, and I like going to his meets, and since I started working at the school a lot of the wrestlers seem to have adopted me.
I did my 2 miles this morning befoer I went to work :carrot: . I'm not doing so great on the eating side, but I've decided to concentrait on the exersize first. I'm still losing weight at a slow but healthy pace.
IMSuperMommy 01-10-2006, 08:10 PM I actually made it back to the gym tonight. The guy DH had carpooled with wound up leaving early due to illness, so DH had to come home too. He watched the sick kid while I took the other one to the Y for his cooking class, and I went to the fitness center with a friend (who's son is also in the cooking class!). Today I was scheduled for strength training so I did some of that. Not as much as I normally do because they just don't have the same amount of equipment. But I also did about 10-15 mins on the bike..lost track of time as I was too busy talking LOL.
If I hadn't gotten there tonight I did have a backup plan of free weights (5 lbs) and several games of Hullabaloo and Chicken Limbo LOL!
~Liz
:flow1: :flow1: :flow1: :flow1: :flow1: :flow1:
MELODY525 01-10-2006, 09:23 PM 1/11 & 1/12: LEAVING EARLY BOTH MORNINGS SO I'M POSTING NOW. I'LL HAVE TO PEDAL WHEN I GET HOME THESE NEXT 2 DAYS. THERE JUST ISN'T ENOUGH TIME TO EXERCISE AND SHOWER AND GET READY. BUT I WILL DO THIS OR FACE THE CONSEQUENCES! :drill: :rollpin: :tantrum:
SEE YOU ALL ON FRIDAY!!! :scooter:
DonnaS 01-10-2006, 10:16 PM Got the pilates in, I think I'm going to try and make it on Tuesdays, I really liked it. I was leary but it felt good.
happytx 01-11-2006, 11:08 AM I missed yesterday, I had to work late, and early, so no exercise yesterday, but Im calling it my rest day, and Im working on through Friday today is yoga, and a run! Have a great day everyone!! :-)
IMSuperMommy 01-11-2006, 11:17 AM Ok, so maybe I shouldn't have done the strength training last night. I woke up this morning and my left leg, from ankle to knee hurts. It feels like that whole part of my leg is turning inwards!?! I know what happened..the day before I fell at DS#1's preschool and twisted my leg, but I thought I was fine. Apparently the weights last night just aggravated it.
So my question is..today is my cardio day (usually bike/treadmill)...do I still do that (it would have to be a much lower intensity..is it even worth it?) or should I try to find something else and let my leg have a day or so to breathe. Tomorrow I am scheduled for more weights and I have been told I should be taking a day or two off in between sessions, at least since I am a beginner. Any thoughts?
~Liz
DonnaS 01-11-2006, 11:31 AM I'm taking today off, I slept wrong, and my neck and shoulders are bothering me today.
ceejay52 01-11-2006, 04:04 PM 41 minutes of exercise for me today. This includes both aerobics and tone--without weights.
Upper body weight workout today. I increased the amount of weight and could really feel it, was a good workout. :strong:
Bette k 01-11-2006, 08:58 PM It was a day where I felt like doing nothing. Getting up was really hard this morning, but i did make it up in time to do the 1 mile WATP. All I could think about was how bad I would feel if I didn't do it. I'm starting to get in the habit, I just don't want to loose it before it gets well established
I think it's going to be an early to bed night if I can get away with it.
LindaT 01-11-2006, 10:07 PM So it looks like quite a few of you had a good exercise day!
Bette good for you for getting in the workout today and yesterday. Make it a habit, like brushing your teeth or combing your hair!
There is part of a song I think about sometimes.. goes like this
Some days it don’t come easy, and some days it don’t come hard
Some days it don’t come at all, and these are the days that never end
There are going to be plenty of days its hard, plenty of days we plum just do not want to do that. We each have the power with in us to make the right decision to go ahead and do it anyway! I think my mother would call this character building.
Liz - good for you on the gym and the bike ride! When I am sore, but not in pain pain I always try to exercise because exercise gets the blood moving and can help us heal minor things . Give it a try You may need to modify or reduce intensity but I always say to try unless it is really pain pain PAIN!
Mel I know you have a bunch of doc appts coming up so my prayers are with you. All I can say is with the world going to hell in a handbasket two things you can control is what you put in your mouth and whether you exercise. I hope you have the time to because I know exercise will help you regain some sense of control that we all sorely need!!
Good going Donna. I am glad you tried something new! But what I said to Liz applies.. exercise can help alleviate soreness even though it doesnt feel great when you start I usually feel better at the end. I mean if I am going to be sore and exercise or sore and not exercise, might as well get it in if I'm going to be sore anyway.
Miss Happy Girl - yoga and a run is great. Everyone, did you know Happy is our 3FC version of FloJo? :carrot:
YAY Ceejay. No prod for you today!
Sherry.. oh weight increase that is going to be good for the bod. I hope your muscles aren't screaming tomorrow. If they are, scale back a little, stretch but remember.. movement can help heal so don't sit still if it hurts
I got in 40 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of lower body weights and had an extremely long day at work.. three meetings plus regular work. I need a tub
DonnaS 01-11-2006, 10:21 PM I know, I'm on my way to the rec center right now to swim, even if it's for only 30 minutes, I know I will feel better.
I'm just in a funk today, kinda blah. . . . must get over it.
dlzbth 01-11-2006, 11:32 PM This was a very stressful day however I did get in my time on the tread mill. Tomorrow is Pilates :)
Also got in about 30 minutes of swimming this evening with hubby, followed by a few minutes in the whirlpool which felt wonderful!!
IMSuperMommy 01-12-2006, 09:45 AM Well, yesterday was a bust. By the time I had a chance to get to the gym, I was pretty much just hobbling around. So, the only "exercise" I got in was going up and down the stairs at the Y with my sick kid (who doesn't think he is sick LOL) while the oldest one was in gymnastics.
Today I am not sure that I will be able to get there either. I have plans already (that have been in place for over a week now) for when DH gets home, so it looks like today will be a day of free weights with my 5 lbers and I promised both kids we could play Chicken Limbo and Hullabaloo. At least it is something, right?
~Liz

tearjerker 01-12-2006, 11:10 AM Yesterday I slept in and didn't make it to the Y. I was very sad but at the same time the sleep felt really really good. I was going to do pilates last night before bed, but missy Emma decided to wake up while I was on the phone with my mom, and I had to put her back to sleep. By the time I laid her down I was exhausted!
This morning I got my lazy butt back to the Y and did 25 min on the treadmill at 3 mi an hour...THAT got my heart racing! :ebike: I feel much better than I did at 6:30 this morning with Rachael fussing because she was much too tired to be up (had to take daddy to work this morning at 5!) Emma crying 'cuz she's hungry and me just cranky because I had only gotten 5 hours of sleep. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:
I'm doing a Sonoma no-no...full sugar in my coffee instead of Splenda...I wasn't even thinking of anything this morning except "Coffee!"
tearjerker 01-12-2006, 11:18 AM There is part of a song I think about sometimes.. goes like this

OKAY!!! No Meatloaf in the diet forum!!! :nono: :lol3:
DonnaS 01-12-2006, 12:10 PM I got in 30 minutes of swimming, and 25 minutes on the elipitcal before they closed. So it ended up being a pretty good day.
I did one of my Kathy Smith tapes this morning, and I might try a different one tonight before I go to bed, I slept really good last night when I got back from the gym.
LindaT 01-12-2006, 12:28 PM OKAY!!! No Meatloaf in the diet forum!!! :nono: :lol3:
hehehe Okay we'll just dub him ChickenLoaf or FishLoaf to make him more Sonoma friendly.
LindaT 01-12-2006, 12:33 PM Tammie and DonnaS.. good going on the workouts. Donna now aren't you glad you went and ignore yourself? Sometimes the our worst enemy is ourselves!
The other Donna and Sherry.. brava to you too!
Liz, yes any movement is better than none, but you need to start scheduling in your exercise too. This is too important to put off. Yes I am an unrelenting nag, but someday you'll thank me for it.
I had a tough time sleeping last night from a busy and rather up and down da y at work, so I didn't get to sleep early or even on time. Getting up was very hard this morning but I got in 50 minutes of step aerobics and 20 minutes of upper body weights. I wasn't happy about doing it, but it's done!!
dlzbth 01-12-2006, 01:54 PM Short post but wanted to report Pilates is done and it is getting much harder to do! But still I enjoyed it and my sore abdomen before the workout is not sore now! YES! :D :) :strong:
MELODY525 01-12-2006, 02:00 PM Linda, you are soooo right!! Staying with the exercise has helped me feel in control of something at least!!!
I am also loving the Sonoma Diet book. This plan is very close to one I have been following but is much more Doctor friendly!! Real food and nothing is cut out.(more or less)
I got back again early so I am off to :ebike: pedal my buns right now. It keeps me going. :carrot:
I love it that, for the most part, everyone is still exercising!
I definitely feel my arms and upper back today from yesterday's weight increase, but it's not too bad. Maybe the swimming last night helped.
Today I did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I usually like to increase the incline every minute so my heart rate gradually goes up, and on a 30-minute workout I will do about 3 of those intervals. Today, I increased the time at my high heart rate to 2 minutes.
JessieW 01-12-2006, 04:59 PM Update! Walked Monday and Wednesday for 25 minutes each in our garage. I don't think I did on Tuesday but I can't remember...is that bad? LOL. Strength exercises on Tuesday night and tonight I need some real cardio. Will head to the gym or do an aerobics tape. I have been having major soreness in my back and shoulder but I know that isn't a reason not to exercise...right Linda? I might need a little prodding though. :)
On a very happy note--I lost 1.5 lbs last week (of the 3 lbs I gained over the holidays). Yahoo for being back on track. And y'all are great for exercising your butts off!!!
Jessie
Bette k 01-12-2006, 06:46 PM I got my 2 mile WATP in again today, in between taking care of sick kid. DS has strep throat, and the only thing worse than a sick husband is a sick male teen.
IMSuperMommy 01-12-2006, 11:03 PM Just checking in real quick...I actually made it to the gym tonight...my friend was broke so we decided to go to the Y to get out of the house anyways. Just did some strength training and walked around the track a little..nothing major.

Coal Miners Wife 01-12-2006, 11:11 PM Just joining in here at 3FatChicks. Right now, I am doing 25 minutes a day on my treadmill or gazelle, 5 days a week. I also try to walk my dog when the weather is good enough. My plan is to increase 5 minutes to my work out every week.
dlzbth 01-13-2006, 12:54 AM Welcome Coal miners wife! You are doing the same thing I am except I am incorporating Pilates in with my cardio every other day. Best to you! LindaT is the greatest! :)
happytx 01-13-2006, 10:15 AM Good Morning ladies,
Last night was walking the dogs for me, and we dont walk a slow pace, so dont worry we arent dawdling around the neighborhood, I walk a 14 minute mile, so we are moving at a pretty good rate of speed! :-)
Tonight, its pilates, normally I would take today off, but I skipped Wednesday due to work.
Welcome Coal Miners Wife!
Have a great friday the 13!! :-) Woohoo, its going to be a great day!
DonnaS 01-13-2006, 10:47 AM Welcome Coal Miners Wife.
No extra workout for me last night, I had too much homework. I did get up this morning though and do pilates. Through our digital cable, the On Demand feature has different workout in it, so I thought I would try one.
Today was weigh in and I'm down another 2 pounds - Yeah me!
Clareh 01-13-2006, 03:04 PM Hi Coal Miners Wife- good luck on the plan.
3 Mile walk today. Lots of nice easy exercise and relaxation this weekend for me.
I thought I posted here earlier today but don't see it. Well, my computer is acting up and who knows what happened!
Still exercising! Did about 45 minutes with weights for legs and about 15 minutes for abs. Increased leg weights today but feel OK so far. :barbell:
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!
Clareh 01-14-2006, 08:54 AM Happy Saturday! 4 mile walk into town to buy a yoga mat for my new class on Monday, and then some weights and 50 mins on the cross trainer later. Home alone as my BF has to work and feeling strangely motivated.
MELODY525 01-14-2006, 09:45 AM I WAS GOING TO GIVE YESTERDAY A MISS BUT AS I WAS GETTING INTO BED, MY DD SHOWED UP AND WANTED A QUICK CHAT. SO I GOT OUT OF BED AND PEDALED WHILE SHE DID THE TALKING. WE HAD LOTS TO CATCH UP ON AND THE 30 MINUTES FLEW BY. NEXT THING WAS DREAMLAND! SLEPT LIKE A ROCK! SO NO PROD FOR MELLIE THIS WEEK!
7 FULL DAYS OF EXERCISING DOWN! :ebike:
MELODY525 01-14-2006, 04:51 PM :strong: I FOUND FRIENDS TO EXERICSE WITH ON FIT TV!!!
I WAS WATCHING THE DISCOVERY CHALLENGE 2002 AND WHAT GREAT MOTIVATION! :tread: IT'S ON ALL AFTERNOON SO I AM TAPING SOME TO GET ME THROUGH THE MONTH!!!:carrot:
Bette k 01-14-2006, 09:09 PM Yesterday I was feeling sick, sore throat and ear ache, since DS has strep i called the dr and got some antibiotics right away so I don't get as bad as his, and feel some better today. I made my self make up for yesterday by doing the 3 mile WATP today :carrot: It was a much more intense workout than the others, I am planning on doing it on the weekends.
dlzbth 01-15-2006, 12:35 AM Melody, you put me to shame! :( :nono: LOL I have not been able to do anything and there isn't any time that I could of done differently but tomorrow is another day and I will do it! Linda, please you don't need to use the prod! LOL
Clareh 01-15-2006, 04:44 AM My longest walk yet- 7 miles!
Bit nervous about it but it's just under a quarter of what I have to do in March.
Separate update- found a protuberance (spelling??) under my neck and (double) chin. It appears to be a collarbone! I've not seen mine for years!!
MELODY525 01-15-2006, 10:05 AM :cofdate: Good Morning and a brisk one it is here! Another 30 mins and counting! :ebike:
for those that are under the weather  and for all those that need encouragement :rollpin: and for those that did so well, sick or not :encore:
We CAN do this! :moped: Happy Sunday:carrot:
Donna don't make me come over there and kick that butt while Linda's enjoying her weekend!
DonnaS 01-15-2006, 10:59 AM Went snowshoeing yesterday, for 1.5 miles, then another 1/2 walking around town. Not sure if I'm going to do anything today or not.
Suzanne 3FC 01-15-2006, 02:37 PM Melody, I watched that too, and also find it very motivating :)
Flu bugs are gone and I'm so ready to get back in the swing. Yesterday I walked twice, once for 30m and the other for 45m, and I did 20 minutes of light weights with the Kathy Smith Lift Weights to Lose Weight. I feel so much more energetic today and am looking forward to exercising this afternoon :)
Good luck everyone, and  to those that are under the weather, get well quickly!
Bette k 01-15-2006, 09:07 PM Felling a little better today, did the 2 mile WATP today, I must be unde the weather, it was hard to finish, but I kept plugging. Did a little scrpabooking today, got several pages of Christmas photos done. It's the first that I've done, and I can't wait to get some more done. I have tons of photos sitting around in drawers that I would like to get in albums.
Back to work tomorrow, o joy. Everyone have a great week!
MELODY525 01-16-2006, 09:53 AM Gotta love another Holiday! :encore:
I am very happy to announce a ONE pound loss this morning! The scale has MOVED!!! I know it will be slow but I am thrilled today. This just motivated me all the more.
I am on day 16 for straight exercising and counting!:carrot: January has been a good month.
Suzanne~ I think it was these shows that really nkep me going. Even though I cannot do what they do, it's inspiration cause sometimes you can't get that from your friends. :bubbles:
Suzanne 3FC 01-16-2006, 11:12 AM Woo!! Congratulations Melody!! :bravo: :cp: :cp: I'll bet you lose another one next week :D You are doing so great, and your dedication is very motivating
I'm still moving. I walked twice yesterday, and once this morning. I have to babysit my granddaughter today, then will walk again tonight, unless she wears me out :)
Have a great day everyone, keep moving!
tearjerker 01-16-2006, 11:20 AM Welcome coal miners wife (okay now I've got Loretta Lynn on the mind!)
No "official" workouts for me this weekend...and there was much confusion in how I was getting to work this morning so I didn't make it to the Y before work...I think I might be getting off early, I hope anyway, so I can go then.
This weekend I succeeded in walking around the mall for an hour and a half or more, don't know how long, window shoping...I did buy two gifts, one for my daughter's nursery room at church (we always get them gifts for her birthday, I like that tradition) and a belated gift for my nephew, who's birthday was Wednesday, but we didn't get paid until Friday. Then yesterday I spent 90 min monitoring my dd birthday party at chuck e. cheese (for a good time there read my journal entry for today :dizzy: ) on my feet, walking around...I was exhausted when all was said and done, so I know I HAD to burn off some calories doing that!
LindaT 01-16-2006, 11:37 AM Glad to see everyone sweating. Wonderful news.
93 minutes for me yesterday and 70 minutes this morning before work. Now it's time to mainline some :coffee2:
Hey everyone, it's great to come here Monday morning and see how active you were over the weekend. Makes me feel guilty for my weekend!
We drove to No. Cal. Sat. morning for a family party and returned home Sun. morning for another family event here in So. Cal. So I spent a lot of time sitting in the car and did not have time to exercise either day. But during the week, I got in 3 weight lifting sessions and 4 cardio sessions so I don't feel too bad. I am ready to get back on track today. I changed my weight lifting routine and will try that out later today.
Some good news ... I discovered last night that I am in a smaller size! My size 12 jeans are a bit snug, but I can get them up, zipped, buttoned, and they're not too uncomfortable!
DonnaS 01-16-2006, 02:06 PM No workout for me this morning, I have a awful cold, and while trying to work out to my tape this morning, I couldn't breathe and would start coughing.
happytx 01-16-2006, 03:38 PM Well no real workout yesterday, but I cleaned out all of my closets, and hauled all those bags away, and stepped up and down on my stool so many time syesterday that I am sore today, so i am calling that my exercise, Lord knows it wore my but out.
Today no prod please but no exercise this evening, we have a long mid year meeting with our Community rep for our exchange student, to see how things are going, I have lots to say so this is gonna last a while! So we are calling today my rest day!
tearjerker 01-16-2006, 05:29 PM today I got off early, like I hoped I might and made it to the Y. I did 30 min of weights:strong:, 30 min program on the treadmill :tread:and then stretched. Before I'd never have time to work up a real sweat but today I did! I feel so good, but I don't think I stretched out my arms good enough...they are still a bit shaky and I bet they'll be sore in the morning.
This afternoon I got lots of cleaning to do and then I'll get my girls from the babysitter. It's kind of lonely around here without them, but I've got so much to do I'd never get it done with them! :dizzy:
jules1216 01-16-2006, 07:40 PM Did my SLim-n-tone(like Curves) workout tonight.
Bette k 01-16-2006, 08:32 PM Another 2 mile WATP this morning, that makes 21miles for the month all ready:carrot: . My original goal was 30 miles, I can see I am going to have to raise it quite a bit!
How are everyone else doing with their goals? I noticed today that my jeans weren't as tight as htey had been. A small victory but I take all I can get;)
Clareh 01-17-2006, 03:55 AM 90 mins yoga class (new one!)
It was great and I don't even hurt (yet!)
LindaT 01-17-2006, 11:48 AM Come on ladies... looks like quite a few have fallen off here. You and I both know we have to exercise for good health, not just weight loss so get back in here and get back to business!!
This morning I got in 66 minutes before I left for work. Was one of those mornings where I did not want to get up, but I did. I hate 4:30!!
Clareh 01-17-2006, 03:41 PM 3 mile walk tonight with BF. Not too fast as we had a lot to talk about.
MELODY525 01-17-2006, 04:07 PM 30 mins of pedaling :ebike:
Hope everyone is having a great day!
Suzanne...secretly I am very happy!
tearjerker 01-17-2006, 04:24 PM um...couldn't get my lazy behind out of bed this morning to make it into the y before work...so tonight I "plan" on doing one of my Denise Austin recordings on the DVR. I have to go through and erase some of them since I don't do them everyday. They are starting to pile up!
Yesterday: 70-minute upper-body workout. Took longer than expected because I started a new weight routine and had to learn several new exercises. Seemed easy yesterday, but I feel it today (in a good way).
Today: 30 minutes on the treadmill doing a "trail" program and 30 minutes on the recumbant bike doing a "random hill" program.
jules1216 01-17-2006, 10:25 PM Went to slim-n-tone workout--have started stasting with 3-5 minutes on the elliptical. The two end pieces are either the elliptical or the recumbent bike-which hurts my knees (trying to strengthen knees from a motorcycle accident almost 2 years ago--not make them hurt worse)--one of the girls that comes has a bad back and doesn't do all pieces of the equipment and I was on my last machine and ready to go on the elliptical and she took her turn so I went and did another round on the stationary equipment and then when she was finished I did 8 minutes on the elliptical before stretches. I am trying to work my way up to 10 minutes consistantly. Somedays I can barely get through the whole room.
MELODY525 01-18-2006, 10:31 AM Another 30 mins and some light AB work also. Keeping the motivational juices flowing. I find I think less about exercise now that I am actually doing it!
Jules~ good luck with those knees.
Hope everyone has a great day. Happy Wednesday!
DonnaS 01-18-2006, 11:21 AM Okay, I didn't exercise on Monday, couldn't breath and would start coughing because of my cold.
Tuesday - No exercise, Brianna ended up with a high fever Monday night and we spent the night/morning in the Emergency Room with her. So I didn't go to bed at all before I went to work, and when I got home I crashed.
I tried the tape this morning, but I'm still coughing too much, so tonight, I'm going to go over to the Rec Center and do the treadmill, that way I can take it up high enough before I start coughing, then sit in the steam room and see if I can work this junk out of my body.
