Yay! We expect it to be the next big thing. They are planning to spend $5 milliion on promotions, and will even have a food line in the supermarkets next year. I personally think it looks better and maybe even easier than South Beach. When we did our diet survey last year, a lot of people said they dropped out of South Beach during Phase 1 because they couldn't live without bread, or didn't like other restrictions. Sonoma lets you have bread and other whole grains from the beginning. Plus you can have real chocolate every now and then  I'm starting it on Jan 1, and I've sent copies of the book to my sisters in case they want to do it with me.

The book is pretty good, so far and from the few recipes I've read sound very tasty. I'm trying my own spin on a Wave 1 breakfast this morning.. eggs, turkey pepperoni, spinach, mushrooms, onions, garlic and salsa and La tortillas. :carrot:

Can't wait for this to get going.. this food is going to taste GOOD!

On the menu later today.. barley, turkey smoked sausage and veggie soup. :D

Hey there Linda :)

I just picked up the Better Homes & Gardens Diet magazine (saw it on the rack yesterday) and there is an article on the Sonoma Diet - haven't had a chance to read it yet however (the magazine also has some really good articles by Anne Fletcher, author of Thin for Life).

When I get to the article, I'll let you know... ;)

Thank you! Well,I don't think I can follow the Sonoma diet perfectly, but I think I can do my own thing based on the Mediterranean diet. It sounds easy to do with the food choices my family makes (except of course the processed canned/packaged lunches we have because my parents work and I'm not allowed to cook!Lol,but I can control these so I eat less of that junk). All I need to do is add more fruits and veggies and have less red meat (we usually have chicken though). Other diets are way to restrictive for what my family buys.

I'll be checking back here though,I'm sure there's many useful things to learn from the Sonoma diet.

Sounds like a neat plan and a good extension of the diets that are out there but not fully developed or realistic.
However I do need my chocolate everyday! Thats not an option.

I am doing great on Calorie Queens..but Sonoma sounds interesting to read for ideas.

Anything with chocolate on the diet is worth investigating! :):):)

Waiting for a big migration of SBD Chickies to this Forum. It will be interesting. Maybe we could start a Sensible Diet Plan Forum?

I'm off to see if I can get the book from Chapters.ca yet!

Well, actually yes. Just think! We could combine South Beach and the Sonoma diets and be on the Mediterranean Beach. Love ya, Ellis:hug:

Hmm...I don't think I'll buy the book. Sounds basically like whole grains, unprocessed foods, healthy fats, and controlled calories by controlling portion sizes--sounds the same as what many people on her preach, but hey, if you need a book and numbers to follow (percentages), then best of luck to you. I'll be interested to see if people actually find it any easier than South Beach.

I've ordered a copy from Amazon. Been away from here for many months due to crazy-busyness, and am about to move to the country and become gainfully unemployed, so will have lots of time and energy to devote to succeeding. I'll look forward to discussion here.

I bought the book 2 days ago and have read it through. The plan seems very healthy, versatile, simple, and doable. It may even convert this diehard Weight Watcher.

I'm waiting for Linda to post what we have to do at each phase :) Okay so I don't want to read another book right now but the med diet has always had my attention.

..Leenie Beanie is read Suzanne's excellent summery of "What is the Sonoma Diet?" Like you said, it is pretty much the Med Diet but the main difference is it has some portion control guidelines for weight loss purposes.

First thing.. find a 7" plate or a 2 cup bowl for breakfast and a 9" plate for lunches and dinners. :)

My wave one breakfast this morning was 2 egg whites, one serving of turkey pepperonii, mushrooms, onions, garlic, spinach all scrambled and served in La Tortillas with salsa. I would have used ff sour cream but I didn't seem to see that listed under Wave 1.

Unfortunately, you really do need to take a look at the book to see the foods list that you are eating during each Wave. I don't think I am allowed to post that list here.....probably would be considered copyright issue or something.

Oh yeah.. you have to EXERCISE too and I know you think that is a dirty word. I pesonally think the exercise is the more important componant rather than adhereing to perfection in the eating plan.

This diet looks interesting to me. I'm thinking that most of the food would fall into the low glycemic index range. Is that correct? My doctor has said that I need to watch my blood sugar which is a whole new thing for me to think about. I'm going to look for the book and will be checking in here for more information.

Question about the plates. I'm actually buying new plates (not for this but because our set is falling apart). The plates I'm looking at are 10 inches with a large rim (you can see them here: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=106810&RN=554)

What's the purpose of the 9 inch rule? I know there have been a ton of studies linked to perceived amounts of food and satisfaction.

Jessica, It's just a portion control mechanism..Calorie counters do calories, WW people do points, we get to do plates and bowls. The book doesn't really go into why they decided upon 9 vs 10 or 11 inches.

Jessica~ Although using smaller plates is also a mental thing, like you said, I get the feeling that on the Sonoma it is more for portion control. This way it keeps things simple. I think the plates you are getting should be fine as long as the inside area (not counting the rim) is 7" or 9".

I just finished reading the book, and I'm really impressed with how well laid out it is as far as being able to follow. I'm going to go shopping on Thursday and start this on Friday. Friday's are my weigh in days, so I figured it would be a good day to start. I started watching what I was eating last month, but the holidays and some personal things were going on at the end of the month, and I'm right back where I was before.

What I really liked as I was reading was the structure of the diet.
