HI guys. I wanted to challange myself and I thought this would be the best way. I was thinking that we could have a contest to see who could do it first no matter what plan you are on. I was thinking that we could weigh in every friday or something like that. I do better this way so i feel like someone is holding me accountable. Is anyone up for this? I could use a few buddies here to help! :carrot:

Hi Chistian..I'll go along with you..I love challenges and I could use a buddy too...I just joined and started my diet last week...I think this is a good idea and Friday sounds good to me...
I'm not really following any plans..I'm just trying to watch calories and eat smaller meals more often and drink more water....I'm still trying to get motivated to start exercising.:( ..Maybe this challenge will do the trick:)

I up for it! I had a goal for December of 10 lbs by the 31st, I met that goal last Friday. So I'm TOTALLY motivated now!:ebike:
My new goal is another 10 for January, and I'm ready! I got a 6 week membership the gym for Christmas and I'm starting up tomorrow. So far I've been watching what I eat and going mall walking with my baby, but now I want to push harder!:wl:

Hello everyone...sorry I've been gone a few days...been car shopping for my daughter
Well today is weigh-in day and so far I'm down 1lb since Monday...only got one day of exercise in this week but i'm going to do todays in just a few...I think I'm going to go buy a treadmill tonight after work....
Hope everyone else is moving that ticker too..
a'ight...i am 148 as of today.....hmm....kinda slipped at lunch and went to Cheddar's for cheese steak..feel awfull......
but will work out harder tonite...yaaaaaaayyyyyy.

well I'm still doing good on my eating and drinking water:) ....I will be weighing in on monday and updating my ticker...went looking at treadmills yesterday..I had no idea they were so big...I have a manual one and it's not that big but its hard to use....So now I think I'm going to buy a exercise bike instead...
Still struggling to get exercise in this week:( it's just been a crazy week one thing after another happening but next week should be better
mrsKKK--We have the same goal and are about the same weight...we could help each other to motivate our self.;) ....what kind of diet/exercise are you doing?

I'm in--I'm trying to lose 30 by April 1, that's an ambitious 10 lbs a month....Hope I am up for it--was bad over the holidays..gained 5 lbs...Trying to get lots of water and excercise in....

I have to say I did awesome today.
The key is not one day though, it is an accumulative effort. Don't sweat one day. You have the same goal I do, we've lost the same amount. You haven't fallen far. Find something you enjoy doing tomorrow that gets you out of the house. I went shopping today. Loved it.

I went to the gym today! yay! I had a great work out and felt so good all day! I'm really to try and get to gym 5 days a week. It's not always easy b/c if Mark (dh) is working I have to call ahead and make sure they room for Allen in the childcare room. But, I decided that if Mark is going to work after 8am (meaning that he'd work the majority of the daytime hours) I'll go to the gym before he goes to work. If he gets done with work before 4-5 I'll go when he gets home. I'm hoping this will work so that I don't have a hastle trying to work around when childcare is open and or has room for a baby.
Welcome to everyone new! Yay us! 10lbs at a time is an easy goal, I think. It's more rewarding to do it in smaller chunks and not focus quite as much on the end amount. That you can be like, ok, only 5 lbs left. Yay, I made it! Ok, now 10 lbs.

I hope its not too late to join. I really need this motivation and a challenge is a great motivator I have a ways to go in my quest but I know it is possible. I have really been struggling with exercise. I walk abit but not nearly enough as I should and for some reason I just can't bring myself to dig out workout tapes, but I will.

I am hoping this will kick start me in gear to stick with my new years goals!

My diet wasn't great today either. I'm sick and my husband made the food. It didn't blow. Didn't excercise either, but again I aint kicking myself cuz I was SICK.

I want in too. I think I can still do it want to lost at total of 59lb by the end of July. I want to go on vacation with a bikini (never owned one) for the beach.
I exercise today : 2 hours elliptical 40 min arms with weights - started again today - Not been dieting for 2 months and not exercise, gained 9 pounds also, was doing so good for 3 months and then stopped. I really been to get myself back on track.

Had a great workout today! 1.5 hours. did weights, treadmil, tummy stuff . . . feeling good!
I found a bikini in VS catalog that I want to buy for myself, but I can't yet b/c I don't have a clue what size I'll be! Man, I'm so impatient! I want instant results with everything! But I'm totally working my a** off right now, hopefully in a very literal way!

I've been mia, guess I got confused :?: b/c I was posting in the wrong challange!
Anywho, I'm doing good eating, H20, and excersising. Had a great workout tonight, and ate boiled chicken and a pear for dinner. :cbg: My mouth was watering as I was cooking Mark's dinner b/c I made him fattening food. He's a string bean! 6 foot 4 and weighs 160. Yeeeesh!! :no: He could eat all day and never gain a pound! MEN!!!
There's not much exciting going on here, my baby:bb: is sick so I spent the day cleaning like a super freak while he was napping. As soon as he'd wake, he'd want to be held.

well I've been doing good on eating actually alittle to good..Found out I haven't been eating enough calories....got my stationary bike yesterday so i did 20mins and 4 miles the last 2 days.....
Christian - Hang in there you'll get there..its hard to get started..

HI guys! Sorry to say i am up 2 lbs-----149. Yuck..so close to 150 and on my frame that is not good. But i am starting a challange with my husband tomorrow on who can lose the most by valentines day. Whoever wins gets a $200 present for valentine day above the normal that we will do. I think that incentive enough, i could buy lots of cute clothes. WOW! Sounds like everybody is really doing great! Sorry I didn't get my weight today, Allen is really sick with ear infection and croup, so I was bust toting him to the doc and then the pharmacy and then going deaf while he screamed! My poor baby!

This past week I was up one pound. :( I have hovered between 158 and 155 for... oh, about two months now. :o I'm going back to counting calories, and hopefully this coming Friday, I can post a loss on this thread. :)

Thank you, Thincruiser. You're right about hitting the gym... I like biking, but I haven't been doing it for a long time. My schedule for this week is to bike four times. Hold me to it, 'k? :)
Yesterday was a good eating day. Hubby wanted junk food with dinner, so I baked some frozen mozzerella sticks. I limited myself to three and was totally honest about the caloric intake -- 100 cals a piece! I stayed within my limit for the day, but I sure am glad that I checked the nutrition information before I ate too much...

My first day back to work in 2 weeks. (I'm a teacher aide at a deaf school and we had a winter break). I had energy when my day was over and was planning to hit the gym. I had to come home and do a few things then I suddenly got tired. I guess either the day wore me out more than I thought, or I just gave myself an excuse to be lazy. Either way, I didn't go to the gym. On the plus side, I walked up and down the halls about 7 times in a row right before lunch (I kept forgetting stuff). I haven't figured out exactly what the right combo of foods and calories are for me yet. Other issue this week is I need more fiber (for a ahhem...reason). I also need to know how to up my protein besides meat, (no tofu or anything like that), or beans.

Okay, blew my diet today. Didn't eat bad stuff (except for ONE brownie my kids made (and it has TONS of calories)) but it added up. Overdid fat, calories, and pretty much everything. Drank a lot of water though. That's a good thing. Moved around at work today, but talked myself out of going to the gym.
When I first started (and was losing weight), I was on very low calories. Thought it was fine, but read that I should up them some more. Every day since then, it seems I've up them more and more. Now today it was up to 2100 calories. Personally I can't tell the line anymore. I like eating all the variety of food, but I like losing weight more. What do you think?

Deafinlysmart - with the stress of being back at work and the running up & down the halls probably did wear you out...after you stop moving so much it caught up with you but you'll adjust and be right back into your routine..also I'm with you on needing the fiber and protein...yeah and I don't really like meat that much...I have found a cereal called kashi-clusters that i really like and it's higher in protein and fiber...
Also you said when you first started you were on very low calories...I was wonder what your calorie intake was then cause i've just started and can't figure out what amount of calories I should be eating

i read a lot of posts abt how hard it is to start with the weight loss routine....maybe u should slow down...for instance, in the beginning don't try too hard to eat right and exercise at the same time. ..start with either one...i find exercise easy...so i workout religously for a week...and then slowly incorporate the diet part in it. Its easier 'coz after a week my brain tells me..."hey u r exercising already..so why not eat right as well to lose the flab"....:):) ....just my two cents...

I was wonder what your calorie intake was then cause i've just started and can't figure out what amount of calories I should be eating
I started out at 1200-1300 at first. Then I figured out I wasn't getting enough nutrients and want something reasonable when I've lost weight (so I don't gain it back. I upped it to 1500. Today I only had 1000. It varies. I do try to look at my nutrition part of fitday as well as the calories, etc. I'm learning as I go too. Today I didn't do as well on nutrients, but I excercised, so I made a goal for myself.

I forgot to step on the scale today. I'll report in tomorrow. I've excercised for the last two days. Cool! Bought a pedometer. Other than the one day I overdid it (you saw previous post), I've done well on the excellent this week. I just hope that my weight shows it too.

I've been SO BAD! Friday night was my b-day party and I drank, and drank . . . and drank! And had cake. Then yesterday we ate pizza, and that was all we ate (oh and haven't gone to the gym since Thursday!) And today had very good dinner at my parents house, but then had more cake!!!!!!!!!!!
We're leaving for AZ tomorrow, and I'm going to have to be super careful. And take losta walks!
howz everybody.....i think this group is most active on fridays....thats tomorrow...weigh in day....woohooo i am excited...i have been so good the last four days...with working out and eating protein and not pigging out...

how is everyone doing today..hope your weigh-ins are all good...I'm down 2.5 this week which puts me at 6lbs down for this challenge and only 4lbs away from my 10..then I can start all over again..yeah, now I feel so close and more excited...
sorry I've been MIA but I changed stores at work and been working longer..along with trying to get in my workouts it hasn't left me with alot of time for chatting...

SherryA- just start your 10lb challenge from here..you have no date to lose it by....we're just making goals of 10lbs at a time....by making smaller goals you seem to stay on track by focing on just 10lbs at a time and not the big over all picture
Deafinlysmart- I was wondering what you have your pedometer set at for your step size and how are you getting in 14,000 steps..Isn't that like about 10 miles of walking...I just started using one yesterday and have mine set at 20 inch steps....I really walk alot at work all day and I'm only getting around 5,000 daily...also would I use it as I ride my stationary bike?

oh ok, thanks. I've been setting 3 pound goals at a time. I tend to make those fairly quickly and then set a new one. I've had 2 such successes already this month and am almost at my 3rd!
My weight today is 253 So ten pounds from now will be 243. I hope to make that by the 18th of February.
My weight at the start of January (on the 2nd) was 264.5 so I guess I've already lost my 10 pounds for January.

You did good. It's my first challenge and I'm a little stuck. 175.8 I did lose 1/2 a lb this week. Won't make the 10lbs at this rate, but it's not from the lack of trying. I'm doing good and that's all that matters at this point.

I hate to say this. I know sometimes people don't want to know. But what you eat, is as important as how much. When I was really fat and had never really been on a diet, I used to say that I didn't eat "that much" but that I ate the wrong foods.
I didn't realize how true this was, until I first tried Atkins. When your hunger is satisfied by real food (meats mostly and vegetables), you don't need to eat the starchy and sugary items. Those starchy and sugary foods are the ones who make you keep from losing the weight. For some us, just reducing by a great deal the foods you eat that are higher in carbohydrates, you will find that you will lose weight. You can eat just as many calories, but by eating way fewer starchy or sweet foods you can lose.
Maybe for some of you who are struggling you can look at what you ate, and see if tomorrow or the next day you can cut out some of the starchy foods and replace them with green veggys. The "what" matters as much as the "how much". You'd be surprised.

a month ago...i was exercising religously and having just one meal a day not by choice....tax season gets very crazy...a'ight during that entire month i didn't lose single pound much alone just half of it....
what was i eating...well..i am a big chipotle fan...so after a hard day i treated myself to a beef/chicken burrito...thats it....until one day i found out that those things have 1300-1500 calories in themm....no wonder i couldn't lose weight....i ate 1500 calories and then went to bed...sheesh....bad days...
focus on the positive .....portion control is very important but also is what u eat.....

No way I can catch up here! Been gone too long! This is what's been going on for me . . .
I have this tradition of sucky b-days. This year was no different! Ok, so we were in AZ, and it was nice and warm . . . but Mark forgot to say happy birthday to me until I reminded him around noon! His goofball parents were all pissy about Allen needing to be in bed at 730 WI time (630 AZ time) and then his best friend was being an a** . . that's a really long story. Needless to say I spent the evening listening to talk about breast pumps and pug dogs and eating way too much cake.
Eating too much . . . UG! Apparently nobady down there ever cooks! We ate out for almost every meal! I tried to eat good, but that's not easy when your at a place that only serves hot dogs! (Weinershnitzel)
I refuse to get myself down about my weight this week, and I'm sure I won't make my goal for the month.
Just very happy to be home!

just curious....how many of u work full-time. I am an accountant and with busy season already crashing on me.....i can feel the effects....mindless nimbling and no exercise due to lack of time.
may be we can share info to stop the 8 - 5 weight gain:)

I work full time and take care of 3 kiddos. Personally, I walk the first 15 min of my lunch hour (briskly), then eat. Then if I have time or energy leftover at the end of the day, I go to the gym. Sometimes I feel like good if I make it once a week.

I work full time about 45 hours per week...I manage a blockbuster video...actually right now I'm running two stores....I find it hard to get in exercise sometimes too...After a long day I'm tired...So I try to do my workout before work and I ride my bike at night

I've been experimenting between low fat and low carb diets. Can't seem to stay on just one of them for very long. So this week I mixed it up -- always staying around the same calories of 1200-1400, but some days low carb, some days low fat -- and 30 minutes of exercize a day -- it must have clicked -- I am down four this week! yeah:carrot:

I work full time here @ 40 hours and since my hubby works 40 hours and goes to school full time I am only one that at home with our son. I am sure I am not the only one that does this lol. I gets hard for me to exercise but I make it must on my list to do and I figure it out. I tend to do better if I wake up at 4am to work out and if I have the energy I add some extra a night in between my son's bath lol.
I lost only 1 lb this week, been sick =)
good to hear that i am not the only one juggling work with exercise.....i just started working 70 hr weeks.....sigh....love tax season...lol...i have had a bad week....so i have decided not to get on the scale this friday.
i know i know...i am in denial...but the thing is...weekendz here..and if i get on the scale only to find i am up 3 or 4 pounds...that would been serious binging for the next three days ..curled up on my couch in front of the tv..:):)
But congrats to all who has lost weight this week...hooooray.....rest of ya...DON'T GIVE UP:)

I hit my third goal for January!!!
I started by weighing on December 12 and finding to my shock that my weight had creeped up to 268.5! This is the highest it has been since 2000, when I first started doing Atkins after finding that I weighed 282.
Well after 8 months on Atkins I was down to 232. My weight from there wouldn't budge for about two years, when I got it down to about 220 (at the very lowest and only that for a day or two).
Well after last month, I decided to start "thinking" about dieting again. I lost a little, but not much during that time. January second I weighed 264.5
Today I weighed 252. This puts me down 30 pounds from my high in 2000 and 16.5 down from my December weight. It also puts me down 12.5 pounds for January.
But I guess since I joined this challenge I'm only down ONE pound! Oh well, one is better than NONE! LOL! My next mini goal is 4 pounds from here (248). That will put me at 20 pounds off since December 12!
I love little goals! I can't set big ones. Even 10 pounds sounds too large to attempt. Or even 7 which is what I have to do to reach the Valentine's goal. If I can just keep removing it one pound at a time I will be extremely satisfied!

I started to try to calculate a list so that we could see who all the members are and their progress and discovered I couldn't. Can we post what we lost for the week PLUS our cumulative January totals each time?
So far I've lost 9lbs total. My weekly weighin will be tomorrow. Here's hoping!

Still at 9lbs, but I'm not complaining. DG, I tend to lose a lot slower and I'm starting to. I think the only reason I got 9lbs in is because at the beginning of every weightloss there tends to be rapid water loss. We'll see next moth.

Deafinlysmart - I know what you mean...I seem to lose slowly too....I dropped 11lbs in the first six days and now for the last 33 days i've only lost 7.5lbs but I guess thats good...they say to losing it slow is better and will help keep it off
SherryA - congrats on the 16.5lbs down since Dec....4lbs more should be a breeze...and 30lbs total is awesome:cp: :cp: ...good luck hitting your 20 mark...I still have 6lbs to go till I hit 20..I'm glad to see someone else that started their diet during the holidays too...I started my on dec 19..my family said I was crazy starting at that time but I got motivated to start and just had to....You also have a great attitude...I love your saying one pound at a time is extremly satisfiying(very true)
