View Full Version : LOSE "N" WIN ADVENTURE
Bobbolink 10-02-2005, 07:38 PM We are starting an accountability list of our daily calories. Keep track of your calories for all 7 days and report them Sunday night after your last meal. No skipping days. If you over-indulged, record it. Record the calories in your vitamins. Seeing it in print might stop us from taking that extra helping or making bad choices!

Bobbolink 10-03-2005, 10:23 PM Weight...Your daily calorie goal was 1,100 calories and you averaged 1262 calories for week #1. Good Job!
Diamond Girl...your daily calorie goal was 1200 - 1500 and you averaged 1353 for week # 1. Good job also, especially since you had a PIZZA NIGHT in there.
Bobbi...My daily calorie goal was for 1200 calories and I averaged 1130 for week # 1.
It's really an incentive to see the numbers in print!
P.S. I lost 1/2 pound from week 1, but my signature scale doesn't show it.
Bobbi
choirgeek 10-03-2005, 11:36 PM hey guys! mind if I join? since I'll probably lose track, I hope it's okay if I post every day but keep editing the same post each week?
my goal for nov. 25 is 155 (it's my cousin's wedding and I'm a bridesmaid!!
oct. 3: not so good. 52 days and 7 lbs left to go. ate about 2400...eek! my goal is a net of 1000 - only burned 261 (so still a net of about 2150!). well, at least I likely didn't gain more than an ounce. we'll survive.
oct 4: the plan is to eat yummy cheerios and yogurt for breakfast, take a granola bar to work 12-4, then have a lean cuisine for dinner and more fruit for dessert. salad too if desired. NO CRAP at work or at rehearsal later! treadmill at night or between work and rehearsal if time allows!!!
Bobbolink 10-04-2005, 10:20 AM You certainly can post everyday and it might encourage others to post more often. I have been scanning the F.F.Chicks food menus and see a trend for way too much fat (salad dressings is the biggest culprit) and not enough fiber. I only record my calories and fiber intake and it sure works for me. My weight loss has been steady and I owe it all to fiber intake and low calories dressings, fats, etc. I think it would be a good idea to have everyone post their daily fiber intake along with their daily calories (Or weekly, depending on how often you post). Make sure everyone gets at least 25 - 30 grams of fiber per day. This is quite easy, especially if you have a nutritional scale that measures calories and fiber. I know we're not suppose to advertise products on this post but I'll tell you what my hubby and I eat 5-6 mornings out of 7. (We splurge and have turkey bacon, eggs, etc. on Sunday mornings after church) I have a yogurt maker that makes 8 individual servings @ 50 calories each. I put fresh fruit in a bowl with 1/2 cup plain yogurt and 1 packet Splenda. Mix that up and top with 30 g. of Fiber One Cereal. (1/2 cup @ only 60 calories) Don't mix the cereal in, it stays crunchy that way. It is very filling and you get 14 GRAMS of fiber from the cereal alone, plus extra fiber from the fruit. I have a daily chart made up where I record everything by hand. I added a column for fiber and it's very handy. I'll see if I'm smart enough to copy paste my chart up if anyone wants to use it. I just averaged my last weeks fiber intake up and it was 34.21 grams per day. I'vd noticed lots more energy too!
Good Luck everyone, Bobbi
I just did a preview to see if my chart showed up, parts of it did. There are colums under each section where I pencil in my calories only and fiber. I can e-mail it to anyone that wants to use it. I don't have time to record every mouthful on my pc and this sits on my kitchen counter where I spend most of my time.
I would love to hear other reports on how fiber has helped us along with our rapid weight loss.

the slim me 10-05-2005, 09:01 AM HI Everyone, Glad to see every one here. I just weighed in this morning, at a disasterious 128!!! That is so bad for me. I feel good at around 115. So I'm doubeling my effort to lose. Goals for me have to be something attaineable, like how many calories I eat a day or how much exercise I do, since non of us can predict what our bodies will do weight loss. My goal is to eat around 1200/1300 calories a day. Much less and the scale seems to stop on me. They say if you eat too little your body goes into starvation mode and tries to conserve every calorie. So it's slow and steady. My goal today is to ride my bike for half an hour this morning and go for a 1/2 hour walk this evening. My scale is just one that weighs the food, not the kind that does all the other stuff. NICE to have. I do try to get enough fiber, I think it's very important. If you find it hard to get enough from the food you eat you might want to get a supplement like Metamucil or one of the new onew, since they aren't as "gritty". My cereal is usually Kashi. Tastes great and has a lot of fiber too. I love yogurt too, and since I don't drink milk it's one way to get the needed calcium.
Everyone have a productive day! Freda
Bobbolink 10-06-2005, 10:16 AM Slim Me, I was thinking about you this morning as our Minnesota temperate dipped to the 30's and you out walking in Michigan. They had snow and sleet in the Dakato's and it's all coming our way. You really are a tiny little thing aren't you. What weight did you start at and how much have you lost? It's always nice to hear about the ideal weight that makes YOU feel better. I've had people tell me I'm getting too thin, but I don't feel good at this weight. I'm so aware of my tummy sticking out and very self conscience about it. Why live life that way and I'd like to tell the busybodies of this world that they are not living in my body and don't know what it feels like to be in my body. Sorry, I'll get off the band wagon now! Looking forward to your Sunday posted calories for the week. Or post daily if you want!
Bobbi
the slim me 10-06-2005, 10:35 AM HI Everyone, I know what you mean Bobbi, about body immage. But, I do have a problem with that. No matter how much I lose I still feel FAT. I know it takes awhile to adjust to your new body and the way you look. Before, (ok, years ago) I weighed 110. Every one told me I was too thin, and looking back now, they were right. I was BONEY! I wore a size 4. I'm only 5'1" so I can't carry a lot of weight. But now the 115 seems good to me. I can wear a size 6.

I'm new to this thread.

blues4miles 10-17-2005, 05:34 PM This is going to be painful. But I have to do it or I won't learn. A little shame to keep me on track... :(
Goal: 1200
10 Monday: 1240
11 Tuesday: 1170
12 Wednesday: 1300
13 Thursday: 1200
14 Friday: 1750
15 Saturday: 2100
16 Sunday: 1600
Looks like I averaged 1480, which is close to my BMI. Guess that explains why I didn't gain or lose this week. Okay everyone, give me all your bad attitude so I can be on track for this week :)
Bobbolink 10-19-2005, 12:55 PM Hi Miles!
It looks like the few people that wanted to participate fell by the wayside.
But we can be accountable to each other. My calories for last week:
Calories *********** Fiber
Mon - 1,0137********** 49.24 grams
Tue - 1,081.6********** 37.03 grams
Wed - 998.9 ********** 35 grams
Thur - 1,126.6********** 33.3 grams
Fri - 905 (Ooops!)********* 28.37 grams
Sat - 1,169 ********* 31.18 grams
Sun - 1,090.4********* 22.5 grams
I fell short again on my calories, but I eat soooooo many vegetables that it puts my calories goal below what I should be eating. The good news is my fiber count, I don't think the food I eat has a chance grab onto my hips and tummy!
I'll be watching for you next week Miles and won't give you any tongue lashing this week. Be sure you're getting plenty of fiber in, it really helps.
Bobbi

blues4miles 10-24-2005, 03:20 PM Bobbi, would love to be having the problem of falling short. Weekends are killing me. Was sick this last week and didn't try as hard to stay on plan, but reporting anyways so that maybe the shame will keep me on track this coming week.

Good news I started using Fitday and am keeping track of my ratios as well as total calories consumed. I am managing to do pretty well on fat intake, but need to up my protein and decrease my carbs. Did not weight this week to see if there was a gain but it would not surprise me if I put on a lb or two. I will exercise more (hopefully, waiting on shoulder to heal) and eat better this week and than tempt fate next week. I know exactly what I need to do but doing it consistently is a struggle.
Bobbolink 10-25-2005, 07:52 AM Miles...I apoligize for reporting in so late. We expected a hard freeze last night and have been busy taking all the tomatoes, beets, etc. out of the garden. We live in Minnesota!
Calories.......................................... .........Fiber
Monday 1,333............................. 39.34 grams
Tuesday 1,149............................. 39.58 grams
Wednesday 1,077............................. 25.94 grams
Thursday 1,362............................. 40.9 grams
Friday ?................................ At least 30 grams
Saturday 1,000............................ 49.99 grams
Sunday 1,184............................ 37.6 grams
Friday we took our 13 year old grandson out of town shopping and ate at a "Crusine of India" Buffet. I had no idea what I was eating, let alone the calories.
What is your daily calorie goal? I see you need to decrease your carbs, what are you eating that counts up so much? If it's bread, I found a great alternative to the "light" bread. It's called "Flat Out", has 3 or 4 kinds. My favorite is Italian Herb, has only 110 calories and a whopping 15 grams of fiber. The flatbread is huge, measures 12 inches long X 7". You can use it for wraps, pizza crust, Quesadllas, sandwiches, etc. I used 1/2 of it for a taco and it was delicious and only 55 calories for the carbs. I like to scrabble up some egg beaters with green pepper and roll up in the flat outs, plus salsa.
So, what happened to your shoulder?
I'm going to make V-8 juice today so I better get started, bye for now!
Bobbi
blues4miles 10-25-2005, 01:03 PM Oh yum, tomatoes! Love the idea on the flatbread, it is definitely worth a try (if I can find it, heh heh).
I'm still aiming for 1200, it's the number I constistently see myself lose at (while I'm OP that is). Pulled a muscle or something in my neck/shoulder so my whole left side has been iffy for a couple weeks. It got better after a few days but I somehow screwed it up again while showering this weekend (guess I should have stretched before shower  ). Anyways, it's been pretty high in pain the day or two after I messed it up again and I am pretty much focusing on ways to stand, sit and hold my arm where it doesn't hurt as bad. Today it seems better though so hopefully I can get in some walking or something.
I think my carb problem lies in what I eat during the day. I'm lactose intolerant, so I can't have a lot of the tasty protein-filled snacks of different kinds of cheese or milk, which is where I think a lot of people get healthy doses of protein. Even low-fat meat at dinner doesn't seem to balance at the protein versus the fat. I don't like to eat breakfast before I leave for work, so I tend to eat a lot of cereals, breads, oatmeal and such as my breakfast and lunch. I think though I may start bringing in some boiled eggs to snack on, and am paying closer attention to protein in my breakfast and lunch and trying to make it count. Thanks for the advice and support Bobbi, I'd try to offer you some but you averaged 1,184 for 6 days last week so not bad! Glad you took a dinner off to enjoy some Indian food, I'm sure the damage wasn't as bad as it felt, and you have been right on track for several weeks now. Hopefully I can hop on the bandwagon and stop sabatoging my diet :carrot:
Bobbolink 10-27-2005, 05:57 AM I just checked out Fit Day!
Looks like a lot of computer time to me. I can see where it would be very helpful once it's all set up. Do you think it would be worth my time since I only have 5 pounds left to loose? Do they have a maintainers site?
Bobbi
blues4miles 10-27-2005, 08:01 PM If you are still keeping track it might be. I used to be hand, which I kind of like because then I can go off labels and all that (if you do a custom thing in FitDay you have to go through and fill out ALL the nutritional data; fiber, fat). It can be time consuming to start, but I like that it gives me fat/carbs/protein % and also now that I don't carry a big bag around all the time I don't have my calorie journal with me all the time. However, I usually have access to a PC so it's easier for me now. Guess it would depend. You can always try and do a few days dual, I tried FitDay in the past and didn't like it, just fits my lifestyle better now. That's totally awesome that you are 5 lbs away. You are an inspiration to me that it looks like you have finally nailed it down :) And by 'it' I mean that magic thing that makes it all work, lbs come off, etc.
Bobbolink 10-28-2005, 09:39 AM Maybe I didn't spend enough time searching the Fit Day, but counting the fiber I eat daily is just as important to me as counting calories. Where is the fiber display on this site? The more fiber I eat, the faster I lose weight.
By the way, how does everyone get all those fun pictures, smileys, etc on your post? I tried and my pc says the pictures are too big. How do you make them smaller?
Bobbi
blues4miles 10-28-2005, 02:11 PM For smilies...just go to the advanced reply option. Then there are some smilies on the side, and an option for more.
And yeah, on the food tab of your fitday (which I think is the first page you see when you log in) it will give you a breakdown of what you've already consumed for that day, and includes total fiber, along with total fat, protein, and carbs. I kind of like their little pie chart on protein, fat and carbs as it gives me some other goal in daily eating other than just overall calories. Did really well in protein yesterday, guess I just need to start eating a lot of chicken  :chicken:

I average 1,020.6 calories for 6 days
and averaged 46.75 grams of fiber per day. I know, I know! My calories are too low, but we have a huge garden and I'm a big vegetable and fruit eater. I eat lots of vegetables and fruit everyday and that doesn't leave much room for anything else. And with better than average daily fiber, I'm never hungry.
I do eat about a dozen different vitamins and minerals daily and drink twice the amount of liquid I should have. I drink two pots of coffee most days (Half decaf) and about 4 glasses of Iced Tea. ( decaf) Our garden season will be over soon, maybe I'll be able to get my calories up to normal.
How's everyone else doing? Hannah, you're doing great and glad you have your computer up and running again.

blues4miles 11-01-2005, 04:04 PM I haven't looked at these since I logged them online so it will be a surprise for me too...
Monday 10/24: 757

Thursday 10/27: 965
Friday 10/28: 1155
Saturday 10/29: 1504
Sunday 10/31: 1854
Averaged 1288. Kind of an entertaining week...I'll admit sometimes I would have really low hunger (which is unusual) and othertimes realized I ate some pretty big meals. Actually on Sunday my stomach barked back, and looking at the calories now I know why  According to FitDay, I averaged 56% carbs, 25% fat and 20% protein, so protein is still something I need to work on. In a little bit of a rush now so I'll check back later. Bye ladies! :carrot:
blues4miles 11-06-2005, 09:31 PM It's thaaat time again! Let's see how I did...
Goal: 1200
10/31 Monday: 1254
11/1 Tuesday: 1327
11/2 Wednesday: 1336
11/3 Thursday: 837
11/4 Friday: 1182
11/5 Saturday: 1346
11/6 Sunday: 1248
Averaged 1218, wheeee :carrot: I know Thursday was a little low, but I think when I go over for a few days in a row I tend to have a day after with very little hunger. This week was definitely more even than some though and I will work on getting my body in a better rythmn. Fat: 30% Carbs: 53% Protein: 17%. I'm still very carb heavy and protein low, so that is definitely something to work out. Worked out twice this week, same as last week, for about a 2 hour total. Nothing real impressive, but it is better than I am used to. I'll weigh here pretty soon(I use Sunday nights as my unofficial, though I tend to skip weeks) and see if I am at least holding steady. I know it will take a lot more of this to see some losses. Hope everyone else had a great week in calorie-land! ;)
Bobbolink 11-06-2005, 11:22 PM Miles....Good job on your calorie averages! Having someone to report to really helps me stay on course, obviously helps you too. I'm curious why you weigh in on Sunday nights after eating all day? I'm a scale geek myself, weigh 1st thing in the morning right after I tinkle. I am buck naked except for my undies. I've expermented with weighing myself before and after a cup or two of coffee. Two 8 oz. cups of coffee really does add one whole pound to your weight If you eat really healthy low calories foods like carrots (which is heavy for it's size) it's going to show up on the scale Sunday nite when you weigh in.
But you sound way laid back and only weigh in once in awhile. Good for you, wish I wasn't such a scale geek.
I dropped another pound, down to 128 this morning. My clothes are getting too big so I'm going to start adding more calories to maintain. It was fun getting back into my old clothes, but I can't afford a whole new dressy Church wardrobe. My calories and fiber for the week:
CALORIES......................................FIBE R GRAMS
MON: 1028............................................56 .26 g(I'M PATTING MYSELF ON THE BACK FOR THE FIBER TODAY)
TUE: 903.7............................................5 4.7 g (ANOTHER GOOD DAY)
WED: 1495.6..........................................20 .8 g OOOOPS!
THUR: 1466.3.........................................39. 01 g
FRI: 932............................................... .32.39 g
SAT: 1193.............................................4 6.54 g
SUN: 1404.9..........................................16 .25 g THIS REALLY SUCKS!
MY CALORIE AVERAGE FOR THE WEEK 1165 (SURPRISED IT WAS UNDER GOAL OF 1200) AND MY FIBER AVERAGE WAS 38 GRAMS.
SUNDAYS ARE ALWAYS BAD DAYS AND I WAS ESPECIALLY BAD TODAY. CALORIES HIGH AND FIBER LOW. MY PARENTS ARE IN A NURSING HOME AND WE TAKE TURNS BRINGING TREATS FOR AFTERNOON COFFEE (I HAVE TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS, SO WE HAVE PLENTY OF HIGH CALORIES SWEETS. I BAKED THE "GRAND CHAMPION APPLE PIE WINNER FROM GOOD MORNING AMERICA" TODAY AND SERVED IT WITH VANILLA ICE CREAM. DID I HAVE ONE SMALL SLICE? HECK NO, TRY TWO LARGE SLICES! I HAVE ALL THE WILL POWER IN THE WORLD AT HOME, BUT SUNDAY AFTERNOONS WITH FAMILY IS THE PITS.
WELL ENOUGH OF THAT SUBJECT, GOOD THING THE PIES ALL GONE. I'M WAITING FOR YOU TO WEIGH IN HANNA (WEIGH) HOW YOU DOING?
blues4miles 11-07-2005, 12:29 AM Totally know how that is. I *might* have been a little closer to on track this week, but did go off on Friday (had small slice of ice cream cake for boyfriend's birthday) and then yesterday ate a little heavy on the dinner side, was a celebration dinner (boyfriend, now fiance, just proposed to me that morning :carrot: ). But I think I am a cynic weight-wise, and I'd almost rather see it on the high end some days and maintain for a week or two, then have it look like a loss and gain it back shortly after. They can also be motivating to me. Weighed in tonight, still showing no loss (been weighing in evenings, so pretty steady on that front) and it motivated me to do 20 minutes of pilates and another 15 of hand weights and lunges. Considering my usual lack of exercise, that is a lot.
My fiance actually proposed to me on what I had thought were going to become our weekly Saturday morning hiking trips (though I guess last weekend was just a scouting mission for him) but hopefully the nostalgia will keep it going for us. Also, though I am not sure the details, I'm thinking we'll be planning for a wedding in December 06 (or possibly a few months earlier, in the fall nexy year). So now I have even more motivation to get to goal weight. I need to lose 2-3 lbs a month, which doesn't sound TOO impossible, if I can get this thing rolling. And if I am within 5 lbs at the time, especially if I am at least more muscular than now, I think I will be happy. Maybe lifting this new stone on my finger will add a little muscle... ;)

Hi to all, oh that apple pie makes my druel, sounds very yummy.looks like we all did very well this week.we had snow here in Alberta last night, but it melted on my way to church.and ended up being a nice day.I went to Micheals to buy embroidery patterns, they didn't have any.I guess embroidery is vanishing all I found was cross stitch. its for my 90 year old neighbour, shes very depressed so I took her out for supper last night and she told me she liked to embroider. after supper we went to Walmart and were able to find some floral transfers.we bought some material and today I went over to her place and we transferred the pattern to napkins, hopefully she'll start it tomorrow and just maybe she will enjoy it so much that she'll not be so depressed.talk to you soon. hannah
Bobbolink 11-07-2005, 10:11 PM Hannah............how sweet you sound for helping out your 90 year old neighbor! I'm sure she enjoys your friendship and thoughtfulness, plus you get that "ALL OVER GOOD FEELING" for doing something nice for someone. You did great on your calories too, what is your goal?
I did something nice for our daughter today. She teaches early childhood classes and doesn't have much time between work and raising her two boys by herself. So I dug up all her garden beets, cooked and froze them for her.
I'm really pooped tonight. I should see a weight drop tomorrow.
Miles.........You do 90% more exercise than I do, WOW! Between all your exercising and hiking you should easily drop the 30 pounds by next year. Fall Weddings are beautiful, we have very few winter weddings in Minnesota. Brrrrrr! Do you live someplace warm year around? If you divide 30 pounds into 10 months, (September 06), that's only 3 pounds per month. And what great motivation. Are you planning a large wedding?
Think I'll hit the sack, nighty-nite all.
Bobbi
blues4miles 11-09-2005, 05:08 PM Hey ladies. Yeah, it's taken me about 9 months to lose 20 lbs in the past, so I am not sure if I will hit right on target but should be close. And this time I am planning to exercise more than the last time. It's not the number so much for me anymore as how I feel, and I feel unhealthy at this point. I am in southern california, so pretty warm here, though we are thinking of going up north for the wedding so might have to be a little earlier in the fall then :) And only 3 lbs a month will be quite a trick for me! I think I'm down 2, but I'm a bit too scared to weigh in the morning and confirm it so I've been putting it off.

1100 is my goal.
As you know I changed weight scales and there's a 4 lb. difference, my new one weighs heavier, that why I haven't seen any weight lose because of this.My tracker reads the weight from the old scale, but I'm not changing it as I'm very close to that weight. and than after that I'll be able to post the weight loss again I hope sooner than later.
keep up the good work to you all.

Goal: 1200
M 11/7: 1135
T 11/8: 993
W 11/9: 916
Th 11/10: 1104
F 11/11: 1001
S 11/12: 1243
Su 11/13: 1491
I averaged 1126 with 20% protein, 30% fat and 50% carbs. Still high on carbs and low on protein, but doing better. Did pretty well at getting at least 50 grams of protein in every day. Had some low days, so was snacking after dinner to try to keep my calories above 900 at least. Guess I made up for it by eating a lot over the weekend, but I'm sure I'll do better on that next week. I also worked out 3 times during that period, and then helped someone move on Saturday. I think if I stay OP this week I'm in for another loss come next weekend, but we shall see.
Bobbolink 11-15-2005, 12:02 PM Looks like all three of us are averaging about the same number of calories.
According to some people we should be eating at least 1200 calories but I have a hard time getting my calories up that high.. I think we're all good at eating lots of filling foods that are low calorie. I have a hard time understanding why some of the dieters go over their goal, maybe too many sweets now and again? I'm lucky that I don't care for many sweets, but I could eat a whole cheesecake, ooooh Yum! I don't keep that in the house. I'm only 2 pounds away from my goal and decided that Sundaywould be my day off, so I'm only going to report Monday thru Saturday from now on. We go to my parents on Sunday afternoons and eveybody brings food, no way to figure out what they put in it. When I bake, I use Splenda Bulk sugar and fat free sour cream, ice cream, Cool Whip, etc. Nobody else does and they would think I was a pain in the neck if I grilled them on the ingredients. Keep up the good work Hannah and Miles. Is Miles your real name?

My Salter Food scale is the best purchase I've ever, ever made. It not only measures my calories, but also fiber, cholesterol, fat, etc. I only use the calorie and fiber button, do either of you use a food scale?

blues4miles 11-16-2005, 01:37 PM I usually use a combination of Fitday and labels. I find going over calories pretty easy :) It's not the sweets, it's just in general the ease of eating too much. Plus when you've been dieting on and off for years it's easy to just give up every now and then and wonder why you can't have that burger or whatever. I find that sometimes (like these last couple weeks) when the loss is going good and I'm busy at work but not at home it's pretty easy for me to stay on track. But it really doesn't take much to throw a wrench in my plans and have me eating a 3000 calorie day. If I wasn't addicted to food to begin with, I wouldn't be here.
Bobbolink 11-18-2005, 07:18 PM This is a dear John letter.................My hubby wants me to take the holidays off since I'm only two pounds away from goal. I'm not going to count calories, just watch what I'm eating until January 1st. Thank you for participating and keeping me going. Sorry if my dropping out has messed up your plans. God Bless!

blues4miles 11-21-2005, 11:30 AM It's Monday so I'll keep goin, even if I'm the last left. Anyone else that wants to post their weekly calorie counts (Monday through Sunday) is welcome to join me here.
Goal: 1200

11/17 Th: 1314
11/18 F: 1268
11/19 S: 1321
11/20 Su: 1431
Averaged 1257. 30% fat, 50% carbs, 20% protein. Didn't do quite as badly as I had thought, but not really great either. Didn't work out very much either so I don't expect to see a loss from this week. I'll try to do my WATP tonight and get back on track. I need to work on my protein as well, I think it came from kind of losing my momentum over the weekend.
Anyone else? How did everyone else do? :)
