NEW PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!!

This week's total weight loss:3
Weightloss since 2/14: 22.4

Well, how is everyone doing? I have kind of gotten off track with focusing on my 7 keys. I am going to get my book back out and see if I can get back on track. It has been really quiet around here. I've heard from Jen and Katy this past week, I hope everyone else is doing ok. Just remember, we're going to fall sometimes, but this time we just have to get up, dust ourselves off and get going again. With my new schedule I haven't been able to exercise like I had planned, but I am making the decision to commit to just 30 minutes 5 days. I can do that!

I can't wait to hear from everyone and see how you are doing!!!

Hi all - I want to join, but I am just starting ---
how will that work?
I am realy excited about this program, this morning I had a smoothie and coffee for breafast and my hubby and son are going for a hike in a local gardens (sundays are my no gym days)... I looked at the oprah .com web site. I think that the no eating after 7.30 will be hard for me, but I need something - since DH has returned from over seas I have gained 10 pounds!! and now we are living in fort. benning ga and i don't know ANYONE here - I have no friends (read: no work-out buddies) any way.... what has been ya'lls hardest thing?

WELCOME Krista! I think you can just jump right in where we are. If you'd like to go for the first month of no grains, just start now. I'm sure after this we'll do some other challenge so even though we are a few weeks ahead when this ends you won't be left without support. I have added your name to the list, so next week we can add in your loss too!

I know how it goes to be away from people you know. I really don't have many friends here. We live on my husband's parent's farm. I am only about 2 hours away from my best friend and I have a met a few neighbors. Only one is my age though, the rest are much older. Where is your family from originally?

I have a bit of trouble with no eating after 7:30, so I set my time to 8. We often don't eat until 7 ot 7:30 b/c after his normal job DH goes and feeds heiffers for his dad.

My biggest struggle is exercise! I have been doing great on not eating refined carbs, it's the exercise I am having so much trouble with. Just this past week I started babaysitting two children so in addition to mine I have four. It has made exercise very difficult. So I am going to focus on just 5 days.

Well I'm off to see if I can sell some of my little clay creations on ebay and make some pocket money, wish me luck!

Morning all. I'm at work, the only reason I'd be up at 3am in the morning. I've been working more nights lately and they take a lot out of me. anyway I think I've been doing okay with my eating, not following it 100% but not an all out binge. I didn't do much in the way of exercise last week, only went one day but I'm going to do better this week. I don't know if I will go tomorrow er rather today seeing as it is Monday now but I'm sure I"ll get there the rest of the week. I was supposed to work some 8 hours days this week but I'm going to get out of them so I'll have a couple of days off in a row during the week which is not usual. Can't figure out when I'll weigh in, maybe when I get up after I have a sleep or I might wait until Tuesday morning.

Anyway I hope we see more people posting with this. hey all you that have been here the past couple of weeks...I'm not following this plan 100% so don't feel like you can't post because you've fallen off the wagon. I keep plugging away at it and eventually it will take.

Good Morning!

Jen-Bless you and your ability to work nights! I don't think I could do it! It's 6:07 am here and I am contemplating sleeping in my rocking chair once the kids get here and fall back to sleep.

I think Jen is completley right! I haven't followed 100% either, so don't feel like you can't post b/c you've slipped up. We're human!

I had a two pound loss this week. I am very pleased. I would have liked to take the first weight my scale gave me this morning...182.5. But something tells me I didn't lose 13.5 pounds in a week without exercising. That's the problem with bathroom scales and an old house. Move the scale just a mere two inches and you gain 10 pounds LOL! I try to get it in the same spot everytime but I didn't realize just two inches or so can make such a difference.

Well I better make sure everything is in order before my kiddos get here. I haven't even thought of a craft or project to do today.

yesterday i went to the gym and got 25 min in before they closed.
Today I have had a mushroom omlet and coffee with creamer
I was planning on going to the gym, but blew it off at 6.30 am - big suprise, I HATE excersizing in the morning and I was in the army so i have done it and I KNOW. I like excersizing in the afternoon, but they say it is not as good if you do it in the afternoon - who knows! I do know that some excersize is better than NO excersize!

Misty - I don't know how you do day care - I have a 5 year old and I think I can only handle him sometimes!! :P God bless you!
Jen, what do you do that you work nights?
As far as following the plan 100% I know I won't be able to do Oprahs plan like that, if I could do 1 month of no carbs, well, I would have done South Beach a long time ago! I do like a lot of the rest of her philosophy though and her own story is so motivational!
Any way I have to get running!!
Good luck everyone!!

Krista - I am a registered nurse and work at a hospital. Nights haven't been a regular thing for me in a few years so it is taking some time to get used to them again.

Misty - do you put your scale in the bathroom? If possible why don't you put down a few pieces of masking tape on the floor where the scale is supposed to go that way you can line it up perfectly all the time. I had the same problem with an old scale and weird floors so I can relate. I always lined it up with a tile seam.

I had a few hours catnapping on the couch and I"m just off to take my son to daycare and then back for more sleep. See you later!

Hey there, just surfing here and seeing if I can find a project I can print out online for teh kids to do today. SO I thought I'd check in and see what's going on.

Krista-some exercise IS better than none in my opinion, I'm not an expert but I think you are right about that. Daycare is a breeze for me, it's a challenge at times but I have been watching and working with kids since I was 13 so it's second nature. Plus I have 6 siblings so it was built right into family life.

Jen-I love the tape idea! Why didn't I think of that? I went and bought a digital scale in September b/c my old one was weighing me up to 20 pounds different without moving it. I'll hunt up some tape today!

Well foudn some worksheets I can print out the four year old will like those. Have a good day all!

Hey all. You won't believe but I'm still awake and not really that tired. I had some snooze time on the couch while Drake watched cartoons and then after I took him to daycare I had to get gas for the car and by then I just wasn't even that tired anymore. So I've got myself a coffee and I"m just going to stay up. I'll probably sleep like the dead tonight and probably be tired tomorrow but I'm not really working, I have to go to work for some education thing but it'll just be sitting down for 8 hours which will probably be more tiring than actually working.

Krista - I agree with Misty that it is better to get out and get some exercise whenever you can than to not exercise at all. Apparently exercising in the morning is suppose to be the best as it revs your metabolism for the whole day and is a better fat burner but still if you can't get to it until afternoon or evening it is better than parking your bum on the couch in front of the tv with a pint of ice cream!

Misty - there is a really good web site www.abcteach.com that has a lot of good stuff for kids. Also I happened to see recently at a local dollar store some books that are preschool type stuff, practicing printing and other stuff, only a buck, you can't lose with that.

Well haven't really decided what to do with myself for the rest of the day. I haven't really eaten today so I might throw together something to eat now and go to the gym about an hour or so after that. I probably won't do more than just cardio, if that doesn't kill me with not sleeping much in the past 24 hours. I'm going to weigh in tomorrow. I think I might have done myself in with poor eating over the weekend but we'll see.

Misty - just wanted to add that I got an amazing craft book from the library awhile back called Preschool Art by MaryAnne Kohl (not sure if I have spelled her name right). It is a great book for craft ideas for up to 6 year old kids. Nothing that would require a lot of things to buy, just stuff around the house you probably already have. She's got other books for doing papermache and stuff with clay as well.

Good morning!

Well yesterday was a horrendous eating day for me! I won't even tell you what I ate, it was BAD! But I decided that I can do better and I will!!!!

The 2 year old boy I watch bit my son's nose and made it bleed yesterday! I turned my back long enough to help the 4 year old write her name and my son was screaming. Poor little baby! Then AJ raps the baby in the head with a toy. He had a very rough day yesterday. This 2 year old boy is where my daughter was about 6-12 months ago. He's a very sweet little bot, but he's rough. He knows he's not supposed to do it b/c he only does it when I'm not looking!! I guess he's in that phase "just do something and see what happens". I'm sure it will get better. Today his sister stayed home with thier dad so I have just him, maybe some one on one with him while mine are content will help.

We have to make a trip to Rochester tonight for a viewing. A friend of my husband's died of cancer Sunday. He was only 31 or so. We can't get time off for the funeral, but would like to see his family, so we'll fly up and back tonight. It's two hours one way, we're leaving here at 4. It will be a late night, but tomarrow will be an even earlier morning.

Jen-thanks for the tips!! I looked at a preschool book at walmart but it was $7 and I had already spent prbably $75-$100 on stuff like a step stool and booster seats and a trike (two just wasn't cutting it with 3 kids). I'll have to check out the dollar store. I have stuff from when I did preschool speech therapy, but it's burried in my junk room. I have no ambition to drag it out right now. I'm going to check out that website as soon as I have a free hand...Ben has been wiggling in my lap while I type this one handed LOL

well have a great day all!

Morning all. quick post as I have to work today for a few hours this morning. I'm hoping I'll only be there til early afternoon and then get off a bit early. I'm still tired from working nights on Sunday. I didn't end up getting any sleep yesterday other than what I got on the couch before I took my son to daycare. After that I was so awake and feeling okay that I decided to stay up. I even went to the gym, did cardio and some weight machines. This morning I feel wiped out though because I still missing some sleep. Last night I slept like I was in a coma, I don't remember anything from the time I went to sleep until this morning. I usually wake up once or twice and just roll over and go back to sleep. I weighed in this morning and I"m up a bit from my lowest from last week but I'm still down a lbs from last week. So I"m losing slowly but surely. Eventually once I get this way of eating down and have a bit more regular work schedule so I can get to the gym I'll probably lose a bit more each week. Anyway I've got to grab some breakfast and I"m off. Take care all.

Misty - I'm so sorry about your son's nose being bitten. I don't know if I'd let the kid off that easy! Just because you're not looking isn't an excuse to see what you can get away with. I know the kid is only 2 but still! I've got a 3 1/2 year old and he didn't even try stuff like that because he knew he'd be in for a time out or having some privledge taken away if he did.

hello! Just a super quick note that I found frustrating yet really nice.... I have nothing to wear tonight b/c my clothes are all too big!

Jen
03-09-2005, 08:43 AM
Misty, that is so great that you have clothes that are too big!! I'm finding some of my clothes are feeling a big loose, not because I have lost huge amounts of weight but I've been working out consistently so I figure some areas are starting to be a bit toned. I've not been eating according to plan very much lately so today I am back on track. I didn't get to the gym yesterday because I was at work all day for orientation to a new area and actually left early because I was so tired. Just that night shift catching up with me. I thought about going to the gym after I got home but then decided I wouldn't make it through a workout. Well I'll get back today. Have a great day everyone. See you later.

Hey there! Got to the gym this morning but then probably ate that many calories when I got into some chocolate after lunch. I'm feeling so sick to my stomach right now, what on earth was I thinking?????? Well I'm going to work shortly, working 3-11 so I'll probably have a couple of pieces of fruit at dinner just so I"m not ravenous and fill up on water all night and not eat anything else. Like I probably didn't really go overboard with the calories but I feel stupid for eating like that when I know better. It's my own stupid fault for not stopping myself from falling into the same bad behaviours (channel surfing, being bored and wanting to snack). Instead when I realized I was bored I should have got my butt off the couch and doing something else. It is very, very frustrating when I do stuff like this. Okay so I"m done smacking myself and I"m going to just drink water and have 2 pieces of fruit at supper time and then I'll stop feeling crummy. See you tomorrow.

Hi there,
Jen- I totally know what you mean. I have been finding myself eating stuff and thinking "What the HECK am I doing?!!" It's frustrating. Don't beat yourself up too much and make sure you eat enough. What is good is you realized what you did and you owned it. You didn't hide from it and deny that it happened.

I am having a bit of trouble staying on plan with the eating. The first two weeks I bought tons of fruits and veggies and salads. I followed a preset meal plan with menus that had healthy meals and snack already laid out. I was eating alot of food, but it was healthy veggies and so I wasn't consuming tons of empty calories. But the first week it cost me $180 some, the second week it was $150 some. Last week and this week I had to cut back it is just WAY too expensive for us and DH isn't enjoying it at all. So I bought some smart ones. I'm eating those, and frozen veggies for lunch and dinner and I don't feel satisfied. Part of it is I had to fill up a large part of my day prepareing the foods I ate the first two weeks. I enjoyed the cooking and the learning new recipes. I got me busy. Now I just pop a tray in the microwave. I had no trouble satying on plan 100% thos efirst two weeks. But thi sweek and last week I find myself craving some substance. I am pretty frustrated b/c there has to be a happy medium. I know this summer the price of fresh stuff will come down ALOT and we plant a garden and freeze or can our own stuff. So I will have more choices then. But I can't count on then, I have to live for right now.

I still haven't worked out. I don't know why I keep slacking. Tuesday I sorted out all my kids clothes and since I couldn't keep two toddlers contained in my bedroom I brought it all downstairs....7 boxes, 4 baskets, 3 piles of stuff from AJ"s closet. Each of which required a trip up and down the stairs, then I had to put it all back. So I figure I went up 28 times and down 28 times. And I didn't sit down for the three or four hours it took to sort through all this stuff, so I think that should count as a workout!

Well hang in there everybody, each day has ups and downs but if we look at the numbers we've had 22.4 pounds worth of downs in just 3 weeks! Can't complain I guess. But if I don't get my butt in gear I'll have a gain this week!

Have a good one, all ~misty

Jen

Hi Misty. I know what you mean about food being so expensive. I don't buy really anything different. I'm eating a lot of frozen veggies. Basically at mealtimes I have the same as everyone else, I just don't eat the pasta, rice or potatoes, I'll just double up on the veggies or have a salad as well. At lunchtimes I'll have some meatballs and a couple of cups of frozen veggies done in the microwave. Another good one is a small can of tuna packed in water, drained and mixed in with veggies or salad or both. I didn't do as well last night as I would have liked because I ended up coming home from work early and my husband hadn't eaten yet so we both snacked on crackers, cheese and peanut butter. Not like it was a million calories but I could have done without the crackers. I just had a coffee this morning so I'm starving now. I'm going to do the meatballs/frozen veggies for lunch and 1 piece of fruit so that should fill me up and keep me going until supper. My son and I are going to go to the mall for supper and I'm going to have some Chinese food, something with tons and tons of veggies, I hope they have some that is not all stir fried because then it is covered in oil. I'm going to the gym sometime this afternoon. I'm going to start doing that if I can rather than going in the morning because I tend to waste my afternoons so if I schedule my gym time then I think I will be more motivated to keep busy rather than sit on the couch and watch tv. Hang in there Misty!!! It may be tough right now to stick to your plan but just do your best, that is all anyone can ask of you. Try adding in some veggies with your microwave dinner, just throw in some frozen veggies at the same time you nuke your dinner. Frozen veggies aren't too expensive and you can get all different kinds. I put just a tiny bit of butter, like 1 tsp for about 2 cups of veggies and then salt/pepper or I've also used a bit of salad dressing rather than butter. I think running up and down the stairs 28 times constitutes a workout!!!

Have a great day! See you later.

Hi there!

Jen thanks for the support and advice I needed it :) . I feel much more in control and motivated than this morning. I will have to try more frozen veggies. I can get those for less than $1 per bag. My mother in law has chicken with these new stirfry veggies from Bird's Eye, they were $1.50 a bag I bought a couple to try.

I hope going to the gym in the afternoon works out for you. It's hard to find a time that is convient and motivating. Well I have to run. Enjoy dinner tonight at the mall!

Morning all. Well going to the gym in the afternoon sort of worked because I had a pretty productive day but there was a lot of people there. It's a pretty big gym so you don't have to wait for machines but the parking lot was really full. I got lucky too in that I hit the change room when it wasn't packed. I hate when there are a dozen women trying to get changed in the same space. There was this woman a few days ago who had all her clothes etc on the bench in front of my locker and she moved her stuff like 2 inches so I could get my stuff while she was gabbing non-stop to another woman. Just really annoying.

I didn't end up eating at the mall after all. My son wanted some popcorn and then he didn't want to eat supper and after having a stroll through the food court I didn't really feel like eating there after all. We got a moo-latte from dairy queen to split and they are pretty filling so I didn't get anything else. What a nutritious supper for both of us eh? Well it's not like we do this all the time.

Misty, glad you are feeling better. Right now I feel happy if I lose a lbs a week even though I'd like to lose faster. But still if I can lose 1 lbs a week and keep it off I'll still be down 52 lbs in 1 year which is half way to my goal and better than what I have done in years and years. When you look at it in that way it is a lot easier to stay motivated because losing 1 lbs a week is pretty attainable for most people. That way you can eat within reason and not kill yourself with workouts and still lose 1 lbs a week. Just my 2 cents.

Take care all, have a great day!

Hi all!

Jen- I hope you can find a good tiem for the gym. I use dto work at teh Y and hated working out there during the busy times. It was so hard to even get to you locker, let alone use it! I think you are right about the 1 pound a week. It'll take me well over a year to reach my goal, but that's realistic and I am ok with that.

I am buying myself a charm necklace. I found some cute stuff on ebay, I'm spending more than I wanted to but I deserve a reward! I bought a key (for the 7 keys) and 10 b/c I've lost 10% of my starting wieght, a star for losing 25 (I'll add more stars for each additional 25), and a runner b/c I want to be active and healthy. I will use it as an anchor to remind me where I have come from and where I am going, and also the key is how I have to get there. DH said he'd frame $5 for every pound I lost so I could use it to go shopping when I reach my goal but he hasn't done that nor do I want that much money framed LOL, that's be $150 so far.

Well have a good day all! It's been a long week and it's not over yet. Hope everyone's weigh goes well on Monday!

Hello! I'm here b/c I am trying to not go snack. DH and AJ are in the livingroom watching Ice AGe and munching animal crackers and hot cocoa. I'm hungry, but not sure what to eat and if I sit in there anylonger i will eat crackers. I have gained apound so far this week, not surprising considering how I ate that one day. I think I have gained too Misty so don't feel bad! :) I'm coming up on TOM so that is probably some of it too. I'm feeling horribly bloated today so that doesn't help. I'll try and drink more water and maybe that will help to flush my system. Take care!

Good luck tomarrow, Jen. I totally know how you feel!

I had a pretty good weekend, how about all of you? Friday we took the kids to the nursing home to take pictures of them with thier Great Great Grandmother, Great Grandfather and my husband. His mom passed away in 1977 so we couldn't have all five generations present but it was very nice. Gram really liked seeing the kids, she doesn't know who they are she barely remembers her son, but she was delighted anyway. It's nice b/c we live in her house and these pictures will be something we can pass on to the kids and have here in here her house.

Today I made some sugar free fat free strawberry icecream. I had gotten an ice cream maker from my Grandma for x-mas, but hadn't used it b/c I couldn't find any low fat recipes. Well I decided to just make some icecream with splenda and skim milk. I used the same proportions as the recipes used, but they called for sugar and heavy cream. It tasted pretty good. I only had a bite b/c it wasn't finished setting up when we left to go shopping. Now it's after 8 so I'll have to wait. I am only going to allow myself one scoop on days I exercise. essentially it's milk and strawberries so it fits into the no refined carbs rule, but it still has calories so I can't binge on it!

Well I'm going to make teh next thread so have a great night all, hope weigh ins go well!
