I have read on this board and others about "Boca Burgers". I thought they were a common thing, but I can't find them around here. Do I need to make a road trip the the Whole Foods Market for these? I hope not! :(
Can anyone tell me what store they found these in? Oh an one more thing - are fat free tortillas a Whole Foods item as well?

Thanks so much!

Boca Burgers can usually be found at most major grocery store chains in the frozen section usually near the health foods or organic foods. Look for other soy products. I have never seen a fat-free tortilla but both Mission and Arizona brands have a reduced fat tortilla (6" ones are 1 point and 8" ones are 2 points) both in regular flour and wheat. La Tortilla Factory also makes a low-fat wheat tortilla but I can only find those in my health food or organic stores.

Hi Kelly, thanks for the quick reply! Let me ask you, are they better than Morningstar Farms? My store did have those, so I bought them today. I'm wondering if the Boca's are better taste-wise and points-wise. If I remember right, I figured a MS patty to be 2 points. What are the Boca Burgers?

Depending on the type Bocas are 1 or 2 points a piece. They have more of a texture like meat and IMHO they taste 1000 times better than Garden Burgers.

For Bocaburgers at 1 point I like the Chef Max's and the Roasted Onion the best. Morning Star Spicy Black Bean Burgers are WONDERFUL but they are 3 points each.

Usually I'll have the Bocaburger and eggbeater (or egg white) omelette for breakfast and save the Morningstar for lunch.

I find them both in the frozen food section of the grocery stores and I live in a very small town.

I used to be able to find Boca Burgers at Sam's but now ours only has the Morningstar products, same with the local grocery. GRRR. I have found a local health food store that carries a generic in bulk and it was much cheaper. I used my GF grill with some marinade and they turned out just as good as the Boca or Morningstar. They also had generic crumbles for recipes at about 1/4 the price.

There is indeed fat free tortillas! I buy them all the time. They are by Don Marcos, and listed as Healthy Style, Fat Free. Only 60 calories, and 6 grams of fiber (which obviously now is capped at 4)

Not knowing what to expect I tried the Boca Burgers...spayed a non stick pan and cooked it for about five mins on each side...placed it on lite bread with ff cheese for a wonderful sandwich for only 3 pts....actually thanks to 2BFIT1 who suggested it in her thread...it was terrfic.
And another day for one more point I had it on a toasted english muffin. Was delicious and satisfying.

There are four to the box I bought and what I liked is that they are individually wrapped giving you the feeling of freshness.
Definitely a great lunch surprise...never thought I'd enjoy it!....thanks Pat for the suggestion.

Carla :)

You can also prepare them by poking a hole in the plastic bag (o.k., I do it with my teeth--don't tell) and nuking for about 90 seconds. Comes out nice and juicy. Do this simultaneously with putting 2 slices light bread topped with slices of FF cheese in your toaster oven. When the toaster and the microwave go "bing," assemble yourself a dandy 3 point cheeseburger. Yum.

(I like the salsa flavor. Only 80 calories/ 1 point)

I put a Boca on a FF English muffin, toasted.
I add sliced onions and tomato if it's in season. Then I top it with tiny bits of relish and ketchup. All of this still adds up to 2 points and makes a great lunch or a good base for dinner. It's great to have bocas in the freezer in case you get sidetracked with extra point consumption during the day and need a tasty but light in points supper. Adding a cup or so of WW soup bulks up the meal without the points.
We can do this!

This is exactly what I brought for lunch today... I overdid it last night, so I am eating a little lighter the rest of the week...
I love these Boca Burgers... My sister has been eating them for years adn I used to think "How Gross!!", But then I tried the Chef Max one and fell in love :)

Gardenburger makes a fire roasted veggie burger(2 pts, I believe) that is excellent. It tastes NOTHING like a burger, but makes a really tasty lunch either by itself or with 2 slices of lite italian and a slice of FF provolone. Add some grilled zuchinni....YUM....Is it time for lunch yet? ;)

I nuke a Chef Max's Favorite flavor boca burger, cut it into cubes, put it on top of 1/2 cup of tomato sauce, nuke that for 1 1/2 minutes, and then put that on top of pasta. Seven points, very filling, and lots of protein!

Chef Max's favorite is the best! Very versatile, great on a ff english muffin (toasted) with a slice of 2% milk cheese for a filling breakfast sandwich. Keeps me going all the way to lunch, and gets a milk serving in to boot!

Equally great on a hamburger bun with all the fixings!

Yum!

Oh, crap. I've been counting my Morningstar patties at 1 point each. I need to go back and refigure! Oops!

I went to Denny's on Sunday evening and they have a BOCA BURGER that can be substituted for a regular hamburger !!!!!!! I didn't have it but it was there. ;)

Kelly,

We have Boca Burgers at the grill in our building's cafeteria now, but they are jumbo sized instead of the regular size. I'm figuring about 4 points per pattie instead of 1, because they are substantially bigger. Still yummy, and far fewer points than a regular hamburger! I wonder which size Denny's is using?

Annie,
How big are those larger patties? If they are about the size of a CD, and no thicker than a regular Boca Burger, they may be the product called "Bigger Bocas," also formerly available at Trader Joe's (since discontinued, grrrrr) as "Burger Nouveau."

I am happy to tell you that these came out to 2 points under the old 1-2-3 system, and because I recall they had 140 calories, I am sure they could not possibly be any more than 3 points under the Winning Points system, and possibly are only 2 points.

Look in a well-stocked health-food type store that carries a wide range of vegetarian products and you may be able to find some to read the nutrition label--or maybe Boca has a website with NI?

Bumby, this was a little thicker than the regular BB but it was about the diameter of a CD, so it's probably the same as what you had. With the Winning Points program it will probably be 3 points, since you can't count all of the fiber grams anymore :(.

Wouldn't you know, www.bocaburger.com is under construction until April so we can't check there yet.

Thanks for the info!

Annie

Careful when you order Boca or Garden Burgers in restaurants that they've also substituted low fat/high fiber buns for the regular burger buns. I asked in a Denny's on one of my trips, and found out that they used regular buns ... which can end up being 4-5 points each!

I also love the Chef Max, with a big slice of pickle and a squirt of mustard! I've also had the spicy black bean, and noticed another spicy variety last week in the grocery store (didn't have enough room in my freezer this week, and I forgot what it was called) that I made a mental note to put on my list for next week.

I love the Boca burgers, too...I put them on a wonder light bun with all the toppings (mustard, pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion etc.)...including the 2% fat cheese...a great cheeseburger for 3 points! If I really want to go all out (and who doesn't?) I make some ore-ida baked crinkle cut fries...a 3 oz. serving is 2 points...a cheesburger and fries for 5 points! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!

I found the Bigger Bocas (are they the ones that come in box of 10 or 15?) in my local Costco. They only had the original flavor, but per burger cheaper than the ones at the grocery. I still prefer the Chef Max, but these are okay, esp with salsa. :)

The larger Boca Burgers are labeled Bigger Boca on the box. They do come in quantities of about 10 I believe. I got mine at Sam's Club. For the Original they come out to 2 points. :D

Pat, is that 2 points with the old or new way of calculating points?
