woodfrogs 02-21-2005, 10:40 AM Hi everyone! Snowing here, about 5" or so. At least I already had today off, so it doesn't matter to me. Will go walk on the treadmill and do some crafting later.
Barbara
Ellen 02-21-2005, 10:47 AM Good Morning! Its been somewhat eventful. James had an appointment to have the tree kittens spayed today, but they call him on Saturday evening and told him they gave his appointment to someone else. He went anyway, and they would not take them, since they were overbooked. He thinks the woman who called him gave his appointment to a friend of hers with three feral cats. He let them know how angry he was since he took a day off of work and can hardly afford to do that, and now it was a waste. They told him the president of the company would call him. In the meantime, he has the three kittens who really need to be spayed, and are driving us all crazy, and no place to take them. A little over ten years ago, we took three cats to PetsMart to be spayed and neutered. It costed $30 for the female, and $25 for the males. Now, $60 is a bargain for the females! Most vets charge $90 to $150 for females! No wonder there are so many unwanted pets. Who can afford to pay that?
Breakfast today was three eggs, an English Muffin and a waffle. I was feeling pretty hungry.... I am not sure about lunch, or dinner, but will post when I know.
WOOD: Enjoy your day off!
Solly 02-21-2005, 11:04 AM Good Monday Morning.
Seems like our board is slowing down again. Only 5 pages last week. I can remember when we had 13-16 a week.
Weekend was busy. We shopped all day Saturday and Sunday we shopped for a new kitchen table. Finally found one. Now I have to find an area rug to go under it. I want to change my colors. Went to Outback last night with the kids for my birthday. It was nice (and legal).
Not much going on with me. Have a checkup with the oncologist today. Dreading that.
Barbara, lucky you to have the day off and don't have to worry about the snow. We have had just rain and more rain. I complain about it but glad it's not snow. Enjoy your day off.
Monet, glad you had a nice retreat. What a bummer about the kittens. Especially since he had to take the day off. I would be mad too.
Heart, Sounds like Boogie was pretty smart to me to figure out how to get out of there faster. I agree with you on taking that stuff with a grain of salt. There is a lot of natural things you can do for ADHD if you think he has a tad of it.
Cindy, glad you are feeling better and had a nice visit with your DS.
Angelnic, if you have some questions, just ask away. Someone will know the answer. Jump on in here.
Bob, glad to see you post, but you need to get back on here more.
Got to get busy here. Have a great day.
drumflower 02-21-2005, 02:04 PM Hello! I just started SB yesterday. I love it so far! For breakfast I had oatmeal with cream, toasted cheese sandwich, 1/2 c grapes, 4 cucumber slices and a hard boiled egg with hot tea to drink. What do you all eat?
Also, I have read the book but still have a question. Is there a guideline on how much servings you are allowed in each food catagory? I am looking forward to getting to know all of you! :cb: :cb: :cb:
Ellen 02-21-2005, 02:39 PM Good afternoon! I have been running errands today, and trying to catch up from being gone all weekend.
DRUM: Welcome! We are glad you are here! The board usually is hopping a bit more than it has the past few days, so check in often! The only guidelines I am aware of are these: eat two or three servings or less of starchy carbs a day for weight loss, and the amount to eat is what would fill a normal size dinner plate. I would add to that, eat if you are hungry, stop when you are full. I think I love SB so much because is so wonderfully simple! My only comment is that you might want to watch the cream. The book says to watch your fats, so skim or 1% milk would be more appropriate. Its not a low carb program, its a low glycemic program. The rest of what you had sounds good to me. I often eat eggs, and toast for breakfast, or a couple whole wheat waffles. (Publix grocery stores here have their own brand of 100% ww frozen waffles...they are great!) I try to concentrate on fresh veggies, lean meats and some whole grains. If you have questions, ask away...everyone here is very helpful!
Ok, gotta go! James and I are going to Little Five Points and having lunch at the Vortex! (they have sweet potato fries, and the best burgers in town! I just hope they have ww bread!)
drumflower 02-21-2005, 04:43 PM [QUOTE=Monet 320]Good afternoon!
The only guidelines I am aware of are these: eat two or three servings or less of starchy carbs a day for weight loss, and the amount to eat is what would fill a normal size dinner plate. QUOTE]
:D Question! What exactly do you mean by starchy carbs? Would bread products be considered a starchy carb or are you talking about starchy veggies which I thought potatoes aren't allowed anyhow. I am a little confused! Please help! ;)
Ellen 02-21-2005, 06:13 PM DRUM: Bread, brown rice, pastas are all legal, but considered starchy carbs. Non starchy carbs are things like fruit, veggies (broccoli, squash, green beans) White potatoes are NOT ok but sweet potatoes are...and are a starchy carb. Does that help? So, don't eat more than 2 or 3 slices of bread, servings of brown rice, or ww pasta, or sweet potato each day. If you post your menus, the folks on here can help you work it out. :)
Cindylcing 02-21-2005, 06:31 PM Welcome drumflower.. great to hear you started SB and your enjoying it so far.
Jack , I love the outback , we go there alot.
Back to work and my normal routine today.
Todays menu:
b- 1/2 cup oatmeal, 3 bacon
s- tangerine
l- romaine/spinach salad with 3 oz sliced turkey breast, red peppers and LF ranch
s- 1 cup cantaloupe , diced
s- 1/2 oz almonds
d- sm broiled steak, another romaine/spinach salad, red peppers, and carb options blue cheese dressing
s- plain yogurt with sf vanilla and 1/4 cup frozen blueberries.
drumflower 02-21-2005, 07:53 PM Okay, I am learning already! I didn't know sweet potatoes are considered a starch! Dinner we had coconut dipped chicken breasts, green beans, and SF applesauce. I kinda screwed up on the coconut because it had sugar in it. Next time I will know better!
Ellen 02-21-2005, 09:39 PM We ran over to the new Noodle Cafe for a spot of dinner. We were not really hungry, so Tom ordered basil rolls and we got an order of Cha Ghio rolls. Then, we got Bubble tea...its kind of new and trendy. It immensely popular in Asia. There are pearls of tapioca in the bottom of the tea. Its not very sweet, since its Asian and they don't eat much sugar like we do. Great stuff! I have some of the tapioca pearls and I am going to try making it again. You have to use special large straws to suck up the tapioca pearls. Its just fun! I am not sure if Tapioca is legal. Does anyone know?
DRUM: Hmm, that coconut chicken sounds good. You can find unsweetened coconut at health food stores. I don't know where you are, but in many states there are Whole Food's Markets and they carry it. There are others too, maybe Wild Oats? I never understood why they put sugar in coconut...it tastes sweet enough without it to me! Anyway, maybe you will share your recipe for the chicken??? :)
CINDY:  I am glad you are getting back to normal! Being sick is awful!
JACK: Lucky you getting a new table! I need a new dining room table and chairs in the worst way, but Tom and I have a terrible time shopping for furniture. I find something I like and he usually doesn't like it, and will find all kinds of things wrong with it...qualitywise usually. Drives me nuts. I am contemplating going out and buying one I like and having it delivered while he is at work!
fruitloupe 02-21-2005, 10:16 PM Hey Girls!!
I'm Back!!! Ok - now that my Mardi Gras/Valentine binge is over....I'm back on track. I am up a few pounds but I'm not changing my ticker. I don't plan on being up for long so I'm leaving it like it is if that's ok with everyone!
JACK-K: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!:gift: :balloons: Can I ask how old? HEE HEE!
DRUM: Welcome to the group! Everyone here other than me really knows how to do this plan right! I'm very wishy washy when it comes to sticking on plan! I guess that's why I'm still fat!! HAHA! Good luck to you!
Well, not much going on here other than we finally finished all of our classes and home visits for our foster/adopt program. Now we wait! I'll keep you posted on everything!
Well, I'm off to bed - see y'all tomorrow!
Missy
Ellen 02-21-2005, 10:57 PM FRUIT: The prodigal returns.... :) Welcome back! Just hop on the wagon (I can lend you some earplugs if BOB's Rocky Top bothers you...) and hang on!
drumflower 02-22-2005, 07:37 AM today I had a 3 egg, cheese, real bacon bits, green pepper omelet. Very good but very thirsty, so I am drinking some water ( alot) becasue coffee isn't helping!
woodfrogs 02-22-2005, 08:54 AM Well, on my day off I managed to bake some sourdough bread, and make sf jello. Also shoveled off the back deck and the front steps. Does that count as exercise too? I hit the treadmill pretty hard yesterday morning and walked for 60 mins while watching TV(I love tivo). I think I ate pretty well too. Bacon, egg and cheese on sourdough w/ glass of milk
chicken rice soup(Progresso)
pork chop and rice side dish(not totally legal, but I didn't eat much of it)
and sf jello
today
b- same except sub green tea
orange and something else, not sure what yet.
I'm catching a cold(first one all season) and nothing tastes really good.
I also have a billion errands to do today, plus hit the gym, so I may leave a little early today.
Off to try and be productive for a little while.
Barbara
Poughkeepsie, NY
Ellen 02-22-2005, 10:02 AM Good Morning! I am having a hard time getting James up and moving. He must have stayed up too late last night. Small group is tonight, and I have no idea what I am going to fix. It better be legal, or Tom will not be happy with me. We went to the Phoenix Noodle Cafe last night and got Bubble Tea. He wanted soba noodles and James said they had them...but they did not. Instead he got basil rolls and they have rice noodles in them, so he was not happy. After eating off plan all weekend, he was really trying to get back on. He is so self disciplined! And he has no weight to lose...he just is careful about how he eats. Sometimes its hard living with someone like that!
WOOD: Yes, I think you can count all that shoveling as exercise. Its a great workout for you shoulders, and back. When I was growing up, it was my job to shovel the walk. We lived on a corner, so we had three times as much to do. I remember that ache in the middle of my shoulder blades....
DRUM: Do drink as much water as you can. Coffee actually is not considered a substitute for water, as it tends to dehydrate you due to the caffiene. Tea is the same way as are diet sodas. There is no substitute for 8 to10 glasses of water a day. That is a minimum. If you have a lot to lose, or workout, you need more.
Well, I guess I will go and see if that son of mine has gotten out of bed. I think I will walk today. The weather is beautiful. I took some pictures of raindrops on trees this morning in the fog. I hope they turn out good. I also tried to photograph some crocuses in bloom, but could not get them on the lens right...
 Later!
Solly 02-22-2005, 10:23 AM Good Tuesday morning.
I got busy and could not get back on here yesterday. Had a Dr. appt at 4:00 and had to run out for that. Those check-ups freak me out. Even though I think everything is fine, it is just un-nerving. Of course, everything was fine. Now I can stop worrying for 4 more months.
Got my TM and wts in last night. had some errands to run afterwards and just made it home in time for 24. I just love that show.
BF: ww english muffin, 5 cups decaf coffee
Lunch: Amy's ww pizza, strawberries
Dinner: black and bleu salad (big salad with steak and bleu cheese).
Drumflower, welcome to our board. Glad you are liking SB so much. I think it is pretty easy to follow. Monet gave you the basic guidelines. Just ask questions as you go along. Just a suggestion. You had oatmeal and a cheese sandwich for breakfast. If you used 2 pieces of bread, you already had your 3 starches for the day. That's ok unless you want another later. Maybe add some protein to breakfast. Keep drinking lots of water.
Monet, my DH usually will go along with whatever I want. Unless it is off the wall which isn't usual. He is very easy going. I would think with Tom eating healty it would help you out. He should watch over you with a whip
Missy, I thought I was going to have to come down to NO and kick your butt back on here. Glad your binge is over and you are back on track. BTW, I am 52. old, I know.
Barbara, hope that cold isn't a bad one. Add some extra vitamin C and maybe you can knock it. Sounds like a busy day. Do you have a recipe for the sourdough bread?
Got to get busy here. Be back later.
drumflower 02-22-2005, 11:11 AM How does a chief salad sound with chopped egg and leftover chicken breast with cheese? Decisions, Decisions, :D
Ellen 02-22-2005, 11:46 AM Did I mention yesterday that we went to a co-op health food store yesterday down in Little 5 points? Its a cool trendy area, and this co-op has been around for years and years. They have all kinds of cool stuff. I found ww sesame sticks with flax seeds. yummy! I got some brown rice pasta to try. They had some interesting 100% fruit juices. I got a bottle of apricot. I should have gotten some oat bran, and some ww couscous, but I forgot to. Guess I will have to go back! ;)
DRUM: Sounds great to me! What time is lunch!
JACK: I am NOT going to let Tom see that part about the whip. I don't want to give him any ideas. He is good about giving me the evil eye when I eat something I should not. :)
drumflower 02-22-2005, 11:57 AM Monet, can you make it in about an hour? :D Hey, please tell there is really WW cousous!!!! My family will love you forever! How long does it take to cook? :dizzy: A am having a starchy carb meltdown now! I have to get to our local health food store and find some!!!! :hun: :hun: :hun: :hun:
Ellen 02-22-2005, 12:06 PM DRUM: I don't know whether I can make it in an hour or not...what city are you in? What state? :) Yes there is ww couscous. You can also have 100% semolina pasta, or ww pasta. Brown rice is ok, and even white basmati rice is ok, once in a while. Bulghur wheat is also ok. Tell your family they can address they letters of undying love and devotion here....
Ellen 02-22-2005, 12:30 PM Hey, everybody, I got an email from Sebray. She says hello, and she will be back as soon as her school work slows a bit to allow it. She said she is concentrating on quitting smoking...so SB has kind of taken a back seat to that. Just thought I would pass that on....
Fillise 02-22-2005, 01:05 PM Morning all!
Well it happened after a looooong stall I stepped on the scales this morning to find three pounds gone. So I'm celebrating with a new ticker!
Monet--I'd avoid the bubble tea. Tapioca is a starch and the gi is about 80. It's one of the "hidden" starches that the book aften warns about. Anything used to thicken stuff is probably not ok. When I use anything thing at all as a thickener it is WW flour, and I try to use as little as possible of that!
Drum--Welcome aboard! Monet gave good advice about limiting to 2-3 starchy carbs per day. In the very beginning though, it's ok to eat whatever is legal while your body detoxes from the sugar and refined carbs. Then you can begin to worry about portions.
Jackie--Glad to hear everything was fine yesterday. You can relax now--till the next visit.
Missy--Glad to see you back on the board!
Wood--wow! sounds like you have been busy!
OK got to go the Rooto Rooter man is here!
Susan
techwife 02-22-2005, 02:40 PM Okay...It's 1:30 and I'm still in my jammies...shame on me!! Flylady would swat me with her feather duster!! BUT, I've been literally on the phone all morning and until they invent a phone that can be taken in the shower, that's what happens!!
So, I don't have time for individual replies, just scanned the previous posts and have this to say...I had an Outback Steakhouse across the street from me in the last place I lived and it was murderous torture on the unfortunate nights I was downwind of it!! Which was quite often!! Also, Welcome drumflower!! Nice to have fresh blood--I mean faces around!!
Anyhow...I have two questions:
1. Is oatmeal a starchy carb? I'm guessing yes, hoping now, but it doesn't hurt to ask...
2. Anyone here live in Vermont? Lurkers? Anyone? My husband was offered a job in VT and we'd have to live in the Northern half of the state as that would be where his work would happen. We don't have to live there, but the guy that my husband is always covering for there is moving to Florida to live with his girlfriend and his boss offered him the move. Gotta tell ya, went to Century 21 website and was shocked!! at the cost of houses there. I saw one that was 2 BR 1BA 1100 sq ft for something like $180,000 or so!! HOLY TOLEDO!! And that was with literally no yard or no garage!! Our house is about 1600 sq ft, 3 BR 1.5 BA, has a 2 car garage, a barn and half an acre of fenced-in yard and it's appraised at $75,000 and that is normal to high for a house in our village. And we're walking distance to the river. A comparable house in Burlington area is about $225,000. Unless we're looking in the wrong place...does anyone have a good website I can go to? Or know of a decent town that is affordable but not the ghetto? We'll be going to Burlington on a business trip with hubby next week and will look around and maybe see a real estate agent first-hand. I tried a google search of Vermont Real Estate and came up with weirdness. Oh, well...
Gotta run...will do replies later on...I NEED to take a shower or at least get dressed...this will be the one day someone drops in unannounced...
Kris
Ellen 02-22-2005, 03:44 PM TECH: Yes, oatmeal is a starchy carb. I can't help you with the Vermont real estate stuff. Perhaps find the Burlington paper on line and look at its want ads?? It might give you a better idea. If you are going to move, you really ought to just come to Atlanta. I am sure we can find your hubby a job here.....
Teensybean 02-22-2005, 04:08 PM Hello all----
I know, I know......it has been awhile. We have had a lot of bad stuff going on lately.
Don't have time to explain right now, but will be back this afternoon. Eating has been MOSTLY on plan, there have been about 3 days this month that I totally blew off. A couple just because I was dissapointed in the fact that the scale won't budge, and another just due to the choices I had at the time.
I will be back later..............
heartmom 02-22-2005, 04:48 PM Hello all. I did it again! Went and totally blew it big time Sunday. Will I ever learn? Yesterday wasn't much better considering I pigged out on sf chocolate all day. Still paying for it today with my tummy. I gotta quit buying it. It'll still pack on the pounds like the real kind if you eat as much as I did. Today I'm all swollen and puffy which serves me right! Anyway, I'm back on track today(again). I've gotta break this cycle of yo-yoing. Anyway, I managed to get a 2 mile walk(watp) in this AM. Hoping that will give me the energy I need to teach exercise this evening at church. Yesterday, I didn't do anything, but clean and eat. Here's my menu today..
BF- was 1/2 grapefruit and LC yogurt
Lunch- was sauteed veggies(in olive oil and garlic). Brocolli, cabbage, cauliflower, onion, brussel sprouts. Followed by a spoon of PB.
Snack- will be LC yogurt
Supper- making Mexican meatloaf, snap beans, and steamed brocolli and cauliflower(with lemon and butter). Yellow rice(yucky) for the rest of the clan.
FILLESE- Way to go!
Alright, I need to run!
GatorGal 02-22-2005, 05:18 PM Hello all,
Well, we are back from AZ, and it definitely was an interesting trip. They got a record amount of rain there one day, 1" !!!! It was rather cloudy for 2 of the 3 days we were there. Another couple from our area, people that we know, also were at the seminar. They definitely eat--and drink--differently than we do. A lot of wine and rich food for 3 days was NOT GOOD. But I'm back and back to the routine.
I didn't get much walking in during our trip. I took the ole pedo. but with the weather there, we only got to walk one day.
Today was a big test in my French class. The others were just quizzes, and this covered everything we have studied up to now. I think I did OK.
Today is my DD's birthday and everyone is coming over here for birtghday dinner. Shellfish melange with beurre blanc sauce, wild rice pilaf, and green salad with oranges and avocado. B.Day cake is italian cream cake. I'll probably have a sliver!! :yikes:
Welcome, Drumflower. In what part of the country do you live? Are you fighting snow now? Or enjoying balmy weather like I am here in FLA.
We had our last trees planted yesterday. The big one is in the back behind the pond--about 30' tall. The small oak is in the front, about 10 ft. tall.
Gotta go. Still have most of dinner to do, and my DD will be here in less than an hour.
Solly 02-22-2005, 05:43 PM Just a quick check in before heading out.
I'm so sleepy I can hardly keep my eyes open. Got to get dinner, work out and run to the store to get my aunt some socks. Gonna be another busy night.
Drum, lunch sound good to me. I'm having the same for dinner except with steak.
Monet, every 100% duram semolina I have found says enriched product. Even in HF stores. Is it ok? Thanks for the update on Sebray. Quitting smoking is tough as losing wt.
Susan. :cp: on the 3 pounds. You deserve it.
Tech, yeat oatmeal is a starchy carb and I think the measurement is 1/4 c dry. Hopefuly the salary would increase to cover the cost of living in Vermont. I've heard it's pretty there.
Teensy, I was just ont he exercise board and saw yoru post and was going to get on here and give you heck. Glad you are back on here.
Heart, just start again. We all do it.
Gator, glad you are back on here also. Sounds like a wonderful dinner tonight. My mom used to make the best Italian cream cake. Have a great time.
have a great evening. See ya tomorrow.
Pancho 02-22-2005, 06:10 PM Good day everyone:
I don't even know where to start. Lane came down with a fever Friday and said her ears hurt...so off to the doctor we went....No ear infection...Thank goodness, but she seems to have a bit of a chest cold going on. Britt was supposed to go to the homeo doctor yesterday a.m., but they called and cancelled due to someone being on vacation in their office, and the other person being sick. I had that appt. set for a month, knowing she would be off school. She now has to go at 7 a.m. on Thursday, which means she has to be up and out of bed by 5:30 and will also be late to school...grrrr. I did take the girls to see the new Pooh Heffalump movie yesterday; it was cute, and they enjoyed it.
Today, I took the girls to the dentist and had to run a bunch of petty errands. I then took them to the mall for a little bit, and we are now home for the rest of the day.
I have more x's than o's (excercise -vs- eating on plan) on my calendar. I was able to workout 4 days last week, but eating is still a bit of a struggle; I can't figure out why. It's been nearly two years since I started SB, and I think I am getting a little burned out...why, I don't know...there are so many smart choices!
The scale has been fluctuating between 121#-123#. I want it to hit 120# again and stay there, but I guess I need to get in better control of my eating before that will happen. I am going to have to make my niece's birthday cake and Britt's birthday cake at the end of March, and then there will be Easter, and we are probably going to go to Six Flags in CA. during Britt's Spring Break toward the end of March. I gotta eat good from now until then, so I will be able to have a few "cheat" days. Also my DH's parents are coming to visit mid-March.
Monet: Thanks for starting the board again!!! The brown rice pasta is not too bad; I prefer wheat, but it's not so bad. That is what I have to get for Britt since she can't have wheat. Your DH sounds so much like mine. My DH doesn't have an ounce to lose, and is in awesome shape, and is so disciplined, but when he's not...he doesn't gain a pound...what's up with that? How terrible of the vet to take the appt. time and give it to someone else; I'd raise all kind of He**.
Jack: Glad your dr. appt. went well. I know what you are saying about the anticipation. My mom just went to see her urologist today and he is going to have to operate on her bladder again. The tumors are very large this time, and he is going to have to operate at the hospital instead of the surgicenter. She has fought this cancer for 20 years now, and is getting tired of it all. She said that she is ready to say to He** with it, and just give her pain meds when she's to the point of needing them. It is so hard to see her go through this so often. She has surgery every 6 months or so.
Gator: Had I read the board earlier last week, I would have made a point to come by and see you when you were here; we are not too far from Scottsdale. We have had such a rainy year this year; it is supposed to rain every day through Monday this week again. It's so green though. Enjoy your DD's birthday dinner.
Heart: You know what to do....just do it! What can we do to motivate eachother to get back on plan and stay there????? I'm up to any suggestions. Have you done the Slim in 6-pack on your Slim-in-6 tape? I just did it a few days ago; it's a great ab workout.
Teensy: You've been missed. I hope all is turning around for you, and getting better.
Tech: Howdy...yes, oatmeal is a starchy carb. Can't help you with the Vermont answers, but I think real estate is really booming nationwide right now. It is ridiculous here.
Fillise: Congrats on the loss!!
Wood: It sounds like you had a productive day off. How do you make your soughdough? Does it turn out kinda chewy, like the normal stuff? I never can find sourdough in the stores that hasn't been enriched.
Drum: Welcome aboard; I am sure you will find SB very do-able. Please ask any questions at any time. It's overall pretty simple, but there are a lot of little "tidbits" that you will pick up here, that you may not know otherwise. Some of the people on this board have done this for a long time and have lost a tremendouse amount of weight, and are much happier and healthier. I am sure you will also be one of those people.
I am sure I forgot someone, but I gotta run!
Take care,

fruitloupe 02-22-2005, 08:29 PM Hello Everyone!
Well, I had a so so day today. I wasn’t 100% OP but it was better than I’ve been doing so I’m not upset with myself. One day at a time – each day will get better.
Not much happening here – Terry is outside changing the plug-in thingy for the dryer – we thought our dryer was not working properly but somehow the plug and the receptacle were burned up. The man that came to check it said that there was probably a loose connection. So, we shall see. I just went to check on him and he is almost done.
MONET: Has BOB been singing that crappy song again!! HAHA! Thanks for bringing the wagon by…..I need it! Bubbe Tea? What’s that? Thanks for passing on Sebray’s message – I was wondering what happened to her!
DRUM: Drink as much water as you can. I drink it all day long – my problem though is that I pee all night!! It’s so aggravating!
WOOD: I would say that shoveling counts as exercise! Do you huff and puff? Do you breathe a little heavy? Then…it’s exercise baby!
JACK-K: I’m so glad your check up went well! Before you know it you will have 5 years under your belt! Girl…52 is YOUNG!! From what I remember – you party like you are 18!! HAHA!
FILLISE: YIPPEE!!! I’m so happy that the scale finally moved for you!!! You go girl! I’m doing the happy dance over here for you!
TECH: If I lived across from an Outback that would be deadly – that is my most favorite place to eat out!!! I would never cook!! HA!
TEENSY: Hope things aren’t too bad over there – now you’ve got me worried!
HEART: I’m on that same yo yo lately! We can get back on track!! I just know we can do it!!
GATOR: Welcome back from your trip. It’s a good thing we don’t live together because I’ve never even heard of some of that stuff you are eating!! HAHA! Not to mention…I know Terry wouldn’t eat it!! He won’t eat anything he can’t pronounce!!
PANCHO: Sorry to hear that the baby is sick! I know that puts a damper on things. You will get down to that 120 mark so that you can have those cheat days!! I have faith in you!!
CINDY: WTG with eating on plan! I envy you! Hope you are feeling 100% soon!
Well, I’m off to eat supper and watch American Idol!
See you tomorrow!
Missy

Teensybean 02-23-2005, 01:10 AM Hey gals....
Just wanted to pop in and let you all know what has been going on.
We have had a very trying last couple of weeks. First off, Dh's SIL got pretty sick and was in the hospital. She has asthma real bad and came down with the flu. They said if she hadn't had her flu shot she probably wouldn't have made it. This was the week just before Superbowl Sunday. She got to go home, and was on alot of medications. She didn't make it to the local Superbowl party, and was missed by all, but she was on the way to recovery.....or so we thought.
After the Superbowl party one of Dh's very good friends left and went home. No one up there saw him for a couple of days, so they went looking for him......and found him on the bathroom floor of his house. This was on Tuesday. He had been laying there since Sunday night. He was flown to Spokane to Sacred Heart Medical Center where he passed away Sunday at 11:00 am. He was only 62 years old. Dh was just devistated. They have been very close for many years, actually he is close with the whole family. We are still in shock........
We went up north to the memorial service, which was held in the high school auditorium. I couldn't believe the people that showed up....there must have been 300 or more. The place was filled to the brim. People flew clear from Georgia to attend! He will be sorely missed by all.
After the service, we stopped in to see how Dh's SIL was doing. She looked horrible. Wouldn't let us do anything to help, just wanted to rest. We headed home, and got a call the next morning. She is back in Spokane in the hospital again. She can't exhale hard enough to expel the carbon dioxide in her lungs. She also has been using her wood stove for heat, and I don't think the particles from that have helped her any. Looks like she may be in for quite awhile this time. Will just have to keep our fingers crossed.
I feel totally exhausted, and pretty depressed at the same time. I know that I need to get my a$$ here to post more, but right now I just don't feel that I have much to contribute. It is very hard to encourage others when nothing is happening and I just feel depressed about it. I can say that I have totally kept up the exercise and found a site to help me figure what my caloric intake should be. I just don't understand why nothing is happening. I was COMPLETELY ON PLAN for 12 weeks and lost 4 pounds that just keep coming back, what is up with that?? See what I mean about depressing!! Oh well, guess I will just keep on doing what I can.........
Cindylcing 02-23-2005, 05:07 AM Drum- I am in Fort Wayne , I guess we are somewhat neighbors :)
Teensybean- Im so sorry about your friend. Makes it harder when its totally unexpected like that. Ill keep your sil in my prayers that she gets better soon. I know how you feel about the weight. Since I lost those initial pounds switching to SB Ive been bouncing back and forth over the same pounds lately , we exercise and stay on plan you think things would happen weekly but Im coming to wonder once your over 40 if its just more of a struggle. I just dont know. Wish I had the answers but hang in there.
Solly 02-23-2005, 09:44 AM Good morning ladies
I am really dragging today. After dinner and working out I got in the hot tub and afterwards I was so tired I could hardly dress myself. I hit the couch around 9 and was a sleep in seconds. Still couldn't get out of bed this morning or out of the shower. Just wanted to stand there for hours. Don't know if I did too much at my workout last night or what.
I was up 2 pounds from last week. Down 5 from Monday. go figure.
Nat, I hate that Lane is sick. If it is not one it's the other. Guess it's that time of year and things are going around. Bummer about the appt. But I know you want to get her in versus waiting until she is off school again. I'm sure you will get back on plan. Some weeks I am so gung ho and other weeks I can't stop thinking of bad things to eat. Maybe it is hormonal. With all your exercise it will not get out of hand. Sending prayers for your mom. I can't imagine what she is going through so often.
Cindy, glad you won't being working OT for awhile. My DH did it for over 8 months and it got old very quickly. I don't think it is worth it by the time they take out the taxes and how much it wears you out.
Drumflower, I live in Lou., KY, we aren't too far from each other.
Missy, glad that burned out receptacle didn't start a fire. That's my problem, I'm 52 and think I'm 18 and just can't go like that anymore. Just don't want to give it up though.
Teensy, I'm so sorry about your friend. It is so hard when it happens like that. Makes you think about your priorities. Sending prayers for your SIL. Sounds like she never got over it to begin with. I have gotten a flu shot for the last 2 years. Even though it makes me feel soo old, it has helped and I will continue to get one. What is the site you found to figure your calories? Hang in there, You have to be losing inches and toning even though you are not losing wt. I know it is depressing, I'm going through the same thing. But look at the other side if you are not OP the scale will be rising. You do have lots of things to contribute and we to you so don't stay away.
Got to run to a meeting.
Have a great OP day
woodfrogs 02-23-2005, 09:45 AM Good morning everyone,
Congrats to those who lost or maintained. The scale finally moved for me. After weeks of it varying between 208 and 210, it finally said 207 this morning. I'm going to count that as a win and go from there!
For those of you who were interested in the sourdough bread recipe, I'll post it in the recipe section later and let you know when.
Got some good exercise in yesterday. Went to the gym and did my normal workout and then went home for the crunches and treadmill(I posted on the exercise board).
Teensy - so sorry to hear your sad news. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Tech - real estate is so crazy! Our house is worth double what DH paid for it in 1999, go figure!
Nat - sounds like you've been busy. I'm sure you'll get back down to 120, you have such commitment and dedication!
Have a great day everyone!

Ellen 02-23-2005, 10:00 AM Morning! The metal monster showed nothing interesting this morning- a half pound down, but at my weight, so what? It will be back after I drink a glass of water. I don't entirely trust the accuracy of my scale anyway. I was on plan yesterday, but had too many legal starchy carbs. Today, I hope to do better. I also started taking my metformin again. I have determined that a lot of my gastro-intestinal problems were caused by milk...so I am off milk and it seems to be improved enough to see what the metformin does now.
I did not get in any exercise yesterday, as I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open, or move. I think it was due to forgetting my second dose of thyroid meds. I hope so anyway. I feel all stiff and achy this morning. I considered going for a nice walk, but I have a meeting with the pastor at 10 to discuss some stuff for the arts ministry. One thing we wanted to discuss was a class he is going to teach for the festival on the Renaissance. I needed to use my art history text book from college for that, but after searching high and low, I can't find it! Everyone here remembers seeing it recently, but no one remembers where! I am sure I will trip over it when I get home from the meeting. :(
TEENSY: I am so sorry about your friend. That is so hard. I will be praying for your SIL. My father had asthma, and emphesema, and I know how touchy it can be with those kinds of problems. I can also relate to your frustrations with the lack of movement on the scale. At least you are not sitting at 280 and stuck like that. I really need to recommit, as my frustration has lead me off to naughty land a lot.
CINDY: I am glad you are not going to have to work overtime again. And just in time for spring! I can relate to the lack of weight loss. I am seriously considering just walking - lots. Like an hour a day to see if that helps. I am so disgusted with my weight, but feel so totally helpless.
FRUIT: Bubble tea is an Asian craze..its tea with tapioca pearls in the bottom of the glass. You use a large straw so the pearls will fit up the straw. Its usually slightly sweet...Asians don't like real sweet like Americans...and often has milk in it. They usually use black tapioca pearls. Its just a lot of fun, but FILLISE tells me tapioca is not legal, so I will have to avoid it now. :( Good to see you....
PANCHO: The vet was actually a special discount project for spaying and neutering cats. They found it was a volunteer who called him and cancelled his appt. Probably to put one of her friends in. They rescheduled him for two weeks from Monday, but he is going to wait three and take them to the closer location. In the meantime, I have to deal with three in and out of heat kittens. Grrr. I hope the girls are on the mend. Yes, my hubby is like that...eats perfectly, but if he doesn't, it doesn't make much difference. Perfectly disciplined, and in great shape. Makes me want to slap him sometimes!
GATOR: I am glad you are back! I am sure you did great on the French test....
Ok, I have to go take James to work and go to my meeting...sorry if I missed you, I will try and come finish up later!
Ellen 02-23-2005, 01:56 PM Ok, I am back from the meeting. I felt bad, as I did not find the key book I needed, and so I was really not much help. I need to find some art to capture and save on my harddrive that fits some of the themes he wants to look at, so at least I can feel useful in that. :)
I guess I will finish up my replies:
WOOD: Yay! A pound lost is a pound lost! I am glad the scale moved for you! :cb: :cb:
JACK: I can relate to the extreme tiredness! I keep falling asleep at the computer, or whenever I sit down. I am afraid it may be an indicator for me that my thyroid has slowed again. bummer! It would also explain the weight gain. :(
FILLISE: I figured tapioca was not ok, but I was hoping! :( Are you enjoying the gorgeous weather we are having? I think of you when the sun comes out after a rain, and think you are probably feeling better. The question is, are you feeling better enough to drive to Atlanta? I really need to take you to Little Five to the health food store there. WOW! It has so much stuff. SCF agave is only $3.99 there! I got four....
DRUM: What do you have in your garden? I am not a passionate gardener, but at times I might rate as avid... I have about 60 rose bushes in my yard. I do love roses, but I am bad about keeping up with them.
HEART: Hop back on the wagon...you got plenty of company for the ride.
Ok, I think that is it for me. If I missed someone, let me know, as it was not my intention.
Solly 02-23-2005, 04:47 PM Barabra, :cp: on the loss this week. You dfinately deserve it with all that exercise.
Monet, what a shame you can't find your book. But as you say, it will turn up when you least expect it.
Off to bunco tonight. She said not to eat dinner so I'm at her mercy. Hope it is somehting I can eat.
Have a great evening.
woodfrogs 02-23-2005, 05:02 PM For those of you who wanted it, I have posted the Sourdough bread recipe on the recipe board. Even DH loves this bread! :)
Cindylcing 02-23-2005, 06:22 PM Barbara - :cb: yea on your loss!
I was up 1/2 a pound this morning..go figure.
Ive been trying to think of some things to make my calories go higher but everything I try makes my fat% go up. Any ideas? I know I can add lots of veggies but It takes way too much to add up to much in calories.
Todays menu-
b- 2 scrambled eggs, 1 slice wwlc toast, 3 bacon
s- tangelo
s- plain yogurt with 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
l- about 1 cup of left over chicken breast from last night

woodfrogs 02-23-2005, 06:36 PM Cindy - more protein perhaps??
heartmom 02-23-2005, 06:56 PM Short post- WIW has me up 3 pounds from last week. Hopefully, I'll see a small dip tomorrow and so on. Don't have much to post. I'm in a funk, been crying. A precious little girl is now forever gone due to this stupid CHD. I didn't know her in person, but I've read the emails from her dad and followed her updates and pics since Boogie was just a baby. Isn't fair. Anyway, I have to hurry up and fix some burgers quick before I go to church...talk to ya tomorrow.

Ellen 02-23-2005, 10:46 PM Evening... Just finished up my evening routine of making Tom's smoothies and lunch. I got the dishwasher turned on and am about to hop in the shower. I got my hair cut today, and its so itchy I could scream! The guy who cut it at Great Clips used water to get it wet to cut, but the water had something in it. The stuff smells nice...if you are a man..so I need to get it off my head!
I have been taking my glucophage and its killing my stomach. Maybe it will help me lose a bit though. One can hope....
Menu today was not too bad: B- three eggs, English muffin, hot tea L- leftover ww spaghetti with a bit of sauce, salad with Italian dressing D- Country 'fried' steak, gravy made with ww flour, brown rice, and broccoli. S- apple juice It would have been better to have less starches, but at least what I did eat was all legal. Its a step in the right direction, I think!
BOB: Its nice to see you posting. I am sorry you are having nerve pain again. Maybe you need to stand up and stretch every 10 to 15 minutes at work. It might help.
Teensybean 02-24-2005, 12:58 AM Evening ladies-- Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers for SIL. And for the condolences.
We had another beautiful day here today. I can't believe it is February still. It is more like April weather. I have really enjoyed my walks. A bit chilly when I start out, but by the time I get to the top of the hill it is all sunshine and warmth. Need to figure a way that I can stay warm at the beginning, and cooler at the end!! Everyone around here is doing some logging, so the animals are scarce. I sure hope they all leave a bit of cover for them.
Just puttered around the house this afternoon. Sat out in the sun with my kitty for awhile. She has decided it is okay to be on my lap on the front porch. Bout time......I have been working with her for two years.
Menu for the day--
B-- 1 venison link, 1/2 c Fiber One, 1/4 c FF milk, 1 Splenda, 3 oz blackberries, Lite 85 yogurt.
apple
L-- 3.9 oz Deli roast beef, 1 oz cheddar, 1 small lc ww tortilla, 1/2 c ff cottage cheese. 2 sf Nips
orange
D-- 4 oz cube steak, (country fried with WW flour) salad with BC dressing, 1/2 c spaghetti squash, 1/2 c sf pudding.
I needed more vegetables, but too late now.......
Fruit-- Good to see you back. Glad you had a great time for MG.
Cindy-- Thanks for the support. It is frustrating isn't it?? I mean, I know this woe works.....so why isn't it??
Jackie-- I just did a seach for caloric intake. Here is the link to what I used to compute mine. I think I will check out a few others too, just to compare.
Caloric Intake (http://www.healthkeeper.com/HealthKeeperFinding_Your_Ideal_Caloric_Intak.htm)
Woods-- Congrats on the loss!! Thank you. Prayers are always needed, and appreciated.
Monet-- I am mixing up my exercise routine. I was doing the TBT on MWF, and walking or riding the stationary bike on T Th. Now I am going to walk on MWF (all 3 miles) and on T Th, I am going to do the TBT and ride the bike for 20 minutes. Maybe this will shake something up. I sure do hope so. We are sure a frustrated lot aren't we??
BOB-- ((((HUGS)))) hope you will not end up with the nerve trouble again. Haven't had the deer in the yard for awhile now. There are still apples laying out there for them. We are having such an unusual winter.....we are at 50 degrees during the days when we should be having our last heavy snows. We are going to be burning up here this summer.
Well ladies, have a great night......see you all tomorrow.
Ellen 02-24-2005, 08:18 AM Good Morning! Its overcast and raining here in Hotlanta. Tom has his truck in the shop for work, so he is driving Laura's car so she and James can take mine, which is more reliable, to a funeral on the other side of the city. One of James' friends died very unexpectedly. He was very large...over 400 pounds...so I am guessing it was the stress on his heart. He was only about 30.
I hopped on the metal monster this morning to see if the metformin was doing anything. Guess I am going to suffer for a bit. I had dropped four pounds since I weighed yesterday morning! That was eating well, taking the metformin, but not even getting in my usual exercise. I hate taking it, but hey, if it works, ok. I will just have to live with the stomach and intestinal problems it causes.
I can't believe its Thursday already... I am going to go find some tea or coffee. Be back in a bit! :coffee:
techwife 02-24-2005, 09:21 AM Alright, cats n kittens!! Check...out...my...ticker!!! This was what the scale said yesterday, as well, but I was afraid to record it thinking it was just a fluke...but I'm into the 160's!! :cb: WOO HOO!! :cb: So...now...now that I see the scale actually going in the right direction, I'll be much more inclined to stay OP and exercise. You know...it's just so discouraging when you eat right and exercise and you see absolutely no loss. I'll be walking to the library with the kids today (DD is off for the week for winter recess) and to the post office to get mail and while I'm at the PO, I'll be seeing about getting that plateau I was on it's own friggen zip code!!
In other news, I have great plans for the weekend...I'm taking the girl scouts for a ski lesson at our local ski hill. It truly is just a hill, but it's great for learning on. They have a double chair lift and rentals and all that fun stuff and we're getting them all their first bonafide lesson! I think it'll be great. I've been skiing quite a few times and can about manage to go downhill without breaking my neck, and it's really a lot of fun. I learned in High School when I joined Ski Club. I told my other leader that I'll have to burn a CD with Duran Duran and Men at Work to listen to on our way as kind of a high school ski club soundtrack. I was also thinking I should bring a couple boxes of chewy granola bars as that is what we used to eat on the way to the ski lodge in high school (they had just come out with chewy granola bars and me and my girlfriend just loved them and would eat tons of them on the way there!!)
Anyhow...
MONET: What is Metformin for? Am I right in reading that you've lost four pounds in one day? Wow....I know that's not exactly the way you want to lose weight, but I guess it could be considered a silverish lining? And I'm so sorry to hear about you hubby's friend...
TEENSY: Glad to see you're getting some cozy time with your cat!! :D And I'm so sorry to hear of all the sad times in your house. :grouphug: Hope that dark cloud floats away soon!!
BOB: So sorry to hear you're having pains at work. I've never had a pinched nerve that didn't go away on its own. Do you sit at a desk/computer at work? Could you be in need of a new chair or an ergonomic keyboard? They make really cool ones that are curved to fit your hands or that can be split in two and in a place that makes you more comfortable. Also, an articulating arm for your keyboard so that it practically sits on your lap would be nice if you don't have one already. You know, those trays that slide around and you can put the whole keyboard under the desk or slide it out when you need it and can adjust it to your liking. Just a suggestion, but a good chair and a comfortable place for you keyboard is key to a comfy day at work. And your work should comply with whatever needs you have...and most companies jump at the chance to equip you with whatever you need so as not to be at fault if you have extra 'issues' because of a poorly equipped workspace. They don't want to be liable...if you know what I mean... AND, don't worry about the eating...once you get back on track physically you can start right from where you are and get back on the losing track!!
HEART: SOO sorry to hear about the little girl you knew. I know it has to be a situation that cuts really close to home for you with your son's situation. My daughter had a boy in her class die in a house fire in first grade and I had just see the boy hours before it happened at an arts and crafts class and was thinking what a cute little boy he was...little cowlick of hair sticking up in the back...always climbing on things, but a truly nice boy. And when I heard that he died, I bawled my eyes out...really, I didn't know him personally, like I'd never had a full blown conversation with him and wouldn't know his mother if I fell over her as we're new here and don't know everyone yet, but you could just tell he was going to grow up to be a really good kid. It just seemed to hit so close to home... The memory of that boy has haunted me ever since and it makes me look at my kids every day like it could be there last...and I really hate thinking like that and wonder it that's the way all moms think.
CINDY: I was thinking maybe you could add in a smoothie for a snack at some point during the day. I really like my smoothies...I have the recipe listed in the recipe section under deserts adn frozen things or something like that. But it has plain yogurt, skim milk, vanilla, half a banana and another fruit of your choice (strawberries, orange, etc), splenda and an egg for protien. The key to it, though, is to crush your ice really well in the blender before you add anything else.
JACK:
WOOD:  Here's to one pound down!! It may not seem like much, but one pound down is two pound away from one pound up!! I'm one pound down, too, finally lurching into the long-soughtafter 160's!! I'm afraid to weigh myself tomorrow for fear that I'll find the one pound I lost! :(
DRUM:  Hope all is well with you on Sugar Busters!! Do you have a ticker to track your weight loss? It's fun to add (or subtract!) your losses... ;)
WELL...have some errands to tend to...have a great OP day, everyone!! Kris
Ellen 02-24-2005, 10:09 AM TECH: Metformin is actually a diabetic drug. Its brand name is Glucophage, gluco= sugar, phage = eater. Or sugareater. What it does is bind with sugars you eat to lower your blood sugar levels and reduce the insulin response. I am hyperinsulinemic...I have too much insulin, but I am NOT a diabetic. Metformin is used as a treatment for metabolic syndrome, which I have. Most people lose on it...I have not in the past, so that four pounds was a pleasant surprise. Maybe it will continue... Just to clarify, it was my son's friend who died. It was Teensy's husband whose friend died. I wish I lived close enough to come ski with you...though I probably would break my neck. I went in high school, once. It was wonderful! We just did not have any where near us to go, except an old garbage dump that was made into a ski hill. My parents were not into winter sports, so it was not something I could do much. I went on a trip to Gatlinburg during college to ski, but it rained! :( I was seriously bummed by that!
Solly 02-24-2005, 10:50 AM Good Morning ladies.
Boy am I :tired: today. It was after 3:00 am before I got to sleep. I got home around midnight and was so keyed up for talking all night that I thought I would never fall asleep.
Only managed to get in 20 minutes of wt training before bunco last night. I had to stop by the nursing home and then fix DH some dinner and did my wts and it was time to leave. Just hope I'm not so tired tonight that I cannot get it in.
Bob, how about doing some quick arm exercises at work? I know you are very busy, but hey, gotta take time for BOB. Better 10 minutes a day then not going to work at all. How it passes. We only got flurries or what we did get melted quickly. We have dodged 2 months w/o snow, hope we can make it 1 more.
Monet, how about taking your meds at bedtime. Maybe that will help your stomach. Congrats on the loss, hope you continue to see more. Seems like you are always without a car.
Heart, sorry about the little boy. That is so sad.
Tech, Woo Hoo, congrats on being in a new set of numbers. Now keep it going.
Teensy, I hope mixing up your exercise routine will help. I know it is frustrating. I'm loving this mild winter too.
Going to lunch with a friend for my birthday (just a week late), hope we go somewhere I can get a nice salad.
Have a great day.
Ellen 02-24-2005, 11:26 AM JACK: I am sorry you are so tired! It must be something in the air though, cause I have been the same way! I am so tired I am vegging out instead of doing the cleaning I need to do. Tom's aunt and uncle are coming from Iowa and staying with us two days, and the house is a wreck! I just can't seem to get moving! :( I wish I could take the meds at night, but you are supposed to take them when you eat, so I take them with meals, three times a day. I complained to the doctor once about the gastro problems when taking it, and his response was, 'good, its working!' sheesh...I wanted to smack him.
drumflower 02-24-2005, 11:44 AM :balloons: :balloons: I must say, this the nicest group of people on this board! You are all really helping me stay upbeat my first week on this plan! I am sorry I am addressing everyone together, I will learn your names, I promise! :dizzy: I am going shopping tommorrow for some yummy low carb foods! I am going to check out our local health food store! I have to have that ww couscous this weekend! Do any of you have a great BBQ sauce that tasts like Sweet Rays or KCMasterpiece? I don't like the low carb ones that I have tried in the past. I like a sweet and spicey taste! I am in the mood for some BBQ chicken this weekend!
About my garden! Well to start off, I no longer have grass growing in my back yard! Last summer me and DH put in a Koi pond 9x14x 3ft deep! I live in town, so my backyard is not too big. I have all kinds of water plants! I have also planted tons of perrienals in the back yard ! This spring, I am planning a small rose garden on the side of the house. I am going to have an arbor with climbing roses on it. I am still pouring over all the new garden catalogs looking for inspiration! I am looking forward to spring!
I am not for certain, but I weighed myself yesterday, and I think I am loseing some weight! Maybe I should start one of those weight tickers at the bottom! :o :o Have a great day everyone! ;)
Fillise 02-24-2005, 01:55 PM Morning all! Another quick fly-by post! Just to let you know I'm here, staying OP and thinking about y'all!
I had class this morning and then a full day today. So that should keep me out of trouble--hopefully!
Some quick replies--
BOB--sorry to hear about the pain--I think the stretching/moving aaround advice is good. Maybe you could get some bands to use for stretching at your desk. Either that or just send all those pesky snowbirds home!
Drum--We are glad to have you on the board! You yard sounds like it is going to be gorgeous!
Monet--Hang in there with the meds. Your stomach will probably get used to it after a few weeks.
Heart--How sad, I know it is tough when you hear about the losses. Hang in there.
Jackie--Enjoy your salad----and stay away from da Bunco!!!!! I bet it's a pretty wild group isn't it?
Colleen--Enjoy the warm weather while it last, ya know winter will have one more punch! We are getting spoiled here too, but the weather man look grim last night when he talked about big changes on the way. . .
Teensy--Hey!
Ok gotta get back to work. Have a great OP day everyone!
Susan
cm_ladybug 02-24-2005, 01:57 PM Hi! I am new to sugar busters and this message board. I have been trying to read up on the posts. I too am supposed to take Metformin. I do not take it at this time because it makes me sick to my stomach and I can't be sick going to work and school. I am 5'4" and weigh around 248. I would like to know if anyone has started out around the weight that I am and what your losses have been. I am an emotional eater, so hopefully I will be able to stick with the program. My insulin is in the 30s. I am trying to get it lowered and to lose weight so that I can hopefully get pregnant.
Thanks for any help and inspiration that you can give.
techwife 02-24-2005, 02:46 PM DRUM: Your backyard sound really beautiful! I, too, plan to cut down on the grass this year and plant a veggie garden. I have a great sunny spot behind my barn, my barn was once a pig barn and you can tell from a rectangle shape in the grass that the paddock (?) for the pigs was right behind the barn. Needless to say, the ground is pretty fertile there and the grass grows like weeds, so I'm hoping that my garden will thrive there as well. Other than that, I just have my perennials, foxgloves, hollyhocks, hastas (I have 7 giant maple trees, very little sun gets in except for behind the barn). The hollyhocks are along the barn and I plant sunflowers to go with them every spring...if I can keep the mice or whatever eats them, from chomping them down as seedlings. But I'm really looking forward to a nice sunny veggie garden...maybe I'll grow some herbs like cilantro or something as well. I'm planning on buying some old railroad ties to border the garden to keep out some of the plant stealers as much as possible. I also plan to plant some cosmos as well on the sunny side of the barn...I just LOVE them for cut flowers!!
Hi FILLISE!! Glad to see you milling around again!!
LADYBUG: Welcome aboard!! Check out our tickers...you'll see some gals on board have started out at about your weight and are now skinny minis!! This diet is wonderful and is really easy to stick to...if you can afford LOTS of produce in your grocery bill. Don't know where you live, but up here in Northern New York, produce gets really expensive!! And not even very good quality by the time it gets its way to our stores. Hence the garden I'm planting this year so I can have unlimited tomatoes, peppers, radishes, peas, green beans, etc. Nothing's better than fresh veggies from the garden!! Specially tomatoes!! So, even when you're not losing, you'll still enjoy eating on the SB plan. Good luck!! Come back and chat with us often!!
Food today:
BF:
1/2 grapefruit
2 eggs scrambled
3 small sausage links
coffee w/ splenda and half n half
Lunch:
Leftover chicken leg/thigh from dinner
2 cups cantaloupe chunks
1 kiwi
water
Dinner will be:
Broiled tilapia
broccoli
skim milk
Will snack on an apple if I need to... :D
I'm so shocked that the scale finally went down a pound after my TWO MONTH plateau. I had to check to be sure it was balanced properly. The kids like to bounce on it to watch the numbers boing back and forth. I'm soooo looking forward to the numbers continuing to drop. Everybody keep your fingers crossed for me!!
Kris
heartmom 02-24-2005, 02:59 PM Hey guys. Feeling a bit better today but still bummed when I picture that sweet cherub face that Bethany had. Another great loss to the world of CHD. Never makes sense to me. The only peace I get is knowing in my heart that the Lord put this child here for a purpose, to affect lives. Okay,...the scale was down 2 from yesterday, so that's good, but still up 1 from last week and 2 above my low. I'm trying to be good as gold until my trip, BUT I'm really going to try and not go overboard, because I really don't want to backtrack that much. I'm thinking no more than 2 or 3 pounds gained from the time I leave(Wednesday) until I get back and weigh Monday morning. And that's also considering that I won't be exercising. That's going to be weird going that long without a workout. Here's my strategy...I plan on eating breakfast totally OP. We have free certificates for the bf buffet at the hotel we're staying at(Radisson Resort). We have reservations for dinner for four of the nights. I'm hoping that the restaurants have something legal I can order. We're going to the Western Sizzler(yuck, but it's free), Macaroni Grill(what's legal there?), Ruby Tuesday's, and The Pirates Dinner show which I'm not for sure if anything will be legal there or not. As for lunch, it'll probably be illegal but I figure it's better to eat it midday than late at night. I'm sure I'll have a couple of "treats" as well, just planning to keep it reasonable with no binges. Alright, here's my menu..
BF- was 1/2 grapefruit and LC yogurt
Lunch- will be a BIG salad made with veggies, grilled chicken tenders(4), and topped with a little cheese and Ranch dressing
Supper- making chicken soup made with okra, tomatoes, onion, cabbage, beans, some Dreamfields pasta.
TECH-Way to go! Plateaus suck.
CM Ladybug- My weight loss hasn't been too good lately, but my heaviest weight was 278, and now I weigh "around" 160. I started SB at 236. So it works. I just haven't been doing good lately because I haven't been staying on program like I know I should. I like the variety that SB offers that other plans don't. It's really how everyone should eat anyway.
Ellen 02-24-2005, 03:12 PM Good afternoon! I just got in from lunch with my neighbor. We went to my favorite Japanese place...where you sit on the floor and have to take off your shoes. I got Tonkatsu, which is a breaded pork cutlet, and a california roll. They are NOT legal..but I did take my metformin. It started working about ten minutes later....and I still feel gross. TMI, I know...sorry.
LADYBUG: Welcome to Sugarbusters! We are glad you are here! The more the merrier! I hope you find all the support you need to reach your goals here. I am 5'8" and started out at 299, and lost 51 pounds. I have unfortunately gone through a thyroid decline and surgery and have gained about 30 back. It was worse, but I am hoping I can keep the downward momentum. I am not only hyperinsulinemic, but have metabolic syndrome and hypothyroidism, in addition to being perimenopausal. That all translates into nonexistent weight loss. :( I keep at it, because I know I am healthier eating right and exercising, even if I don't see any improvement on the scale. You are wise to get your insulin under control now, before you get pregnant. I wish I had known what I know now when I was pregnant with my kids. I might be in better shape now. (my kids are 18, 23, and 26...time sure flies!) I hear you on the Metformin. I hate it. BUT, it does work. If you take it, eat well, and get those insulin levels down, you will probably be able to eventually control the insulin levels with diet. Sugarbusters is really good for that. I am glad you are here, so I have someone who knows first hand what the metformin problems are, and all. I know I can use all the support and encouragement I can get....
DRUM: Oh! Roses! I love roses.. which one are you going to plant to climb for you? May I recommend New Dawn? Its a wonderful rose, and doesn't get blackspot or other disesases easily. I rarely spray it and it looks great. Its a pale pink, remontant old garden rose that is a sport of Dr. Van Fleet. It gets big here in the south...I mean really BIG. I have canes on mine over 15 feet long. It would swallow the backyard if I let it! I could root you a cutting of mine, and send it to you if you like.
FILLISE: Generally, it does take a few weeks to get used to the meds, but the last time I was taking them, it went on and on and on. I think the problem was that I was developing a milk allergy and it was contributing and getting worse. Now that I am off milk, I thought the days of gastro troubles were over....guess not.
TECH:  Your menu sounds good! I LOVE tilapia! What time is dinner? I had a good laugh at the kids boinging on the scale... I hope it keeps dropping for you.
Ok, it sure feels like nap time! I can not fathom why I am so tired lately! I can barely keep my eyes from crossing, so I better nap some. Later!
cm_ladybug 02-24-2005, 03:51 PM Can anyone tell me where I can go to look at success stories of people that are currently doing Sugar Busters or have completed sugar busters. I have looked on this site, but I was wondering if anyone else had any favorites that helps keep them motivated.
techwife 02-24-2005, 05:23 PM Good news, bad news, good news...
Good news: I found my snowpants to go skiing in this weekend :D
Bad news: Man, do I look FAT in them!! :(
Good news: Last time I tried them on two years ago, I couldn't even zip them up!! Today they have extra room!! Guess I have been making strides in losing weight!! :D
Okay...back to housecleaning!! :(
Kris
Ladybug...are there success stories in the SB book?
Solly 02-24-2005, 05:49 PM Just a quickie,
Heading to the fish fry to cut up pies and dish up the slaw for tomorrow night. In fact we can't work the church FF tomorrow as we have to work a fish fry at a club my DH belongs to. Never ending.
My throat is killing me. Just came on all of a sudden. Going home later and getting some extra Vit C and some salt water mouthwash. Hope that holds it off.
Monet, I guess if you take it 3 times a day, it wouldn't work at bed time. You can't even drink milk to coat your tummy. Gee you do have a problem.
Drum, there is a BBQ recipe on the board that is sweet and made with Agave. I have made it a couple time. Not bad. Heinz has a low carb one that is not too bad. Sometimes I add agave to it inthe bottle.
Susan, yes our is a wild group. Very diversified. We get rather loud at times and never play bunco.
CM ladybug, I was 257 and 5'-6" I have lost 105 (have gained 15 back through breast cancer and chemo). It is doable and easy to follow. Best of luck to you.
Heart, You can get the chicken marsala at Maccaroni grill. It's legal. Ask for veggies in lieu of the mashed potatoes or pasta. Sounds like a great trip. I know you will have a ball.
Tech, congrats having those loose pants. It's such a good feeling.
Got to run. have a great evening.
GatorGal 02-24-2005, 06:05 PM Wow, I'm gone for a day and the board explodes. We left after my work yesterday and drove up to Gainesville to watch the Mighty Gators beat up on the Commodores from Vanderbilt in basketball. We stayed overnight at a hotel where we got the room for "free" with honors points that my DH had earned from flying, etc. Drove back this morning and I went right to class from here. Didn't get my test grade back yet. :(
Drum--I have a koi pond 4' X 25' X 2' deep. We have waterlilies in it and also 2 waterfalls, one at each end. My DH has a rose garden and I have a butterfly garden with lots of pretty perenials, most of which look terrible right now because of a recent freeze. They all will come back, but they look pretty brown now.
I didn't even weight yesterday. First, I was not near a scale, and secondly, my eating has not been good. We have been eating out quite a bit, like last night, tonight, and also tomorrow. So, right now is not a good time.
Just wanted to check in.
Ellen 02-24-2005, 06:44 PM Hi everyone! I had a snack this afternoon with my young friend. She came by to bring me some Maytag bleu cheese she found at the farmer's market near her house. (Fillise, it was Kathryn, Tom's wife...and they live near the DeKalb Farmer's Market) It was only $10.99 a pound! That is SO much better than the $17.99 that Harry's charges! Anyway, we ate some bleu cheese on a pear as a snack, then a few triscuits to boot. Very yummy!
I am probably going to have a very light supper. I am fixing salmon for the boys, but I just don't think I will be hungry, so I really should not eat!
I will check in later!
TECH: :cheer: That is great about the ski pants! Loose is good!
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 02-24-2005, 07:17 PM EVENING ALL YOU BUSTER BUDDYS~~~~
I opened my email and low and behold, there was MONET'S broom stick swinging in the wind! Figured I better get back on here!
Shoulder is a little bit better today, but still hurts. I have all the bells and whistles at my desk, but I'm just plagued with this problem, and I guess it's going to crop up on me every now and then.
Heard from Debbie last night, she's sick again...but said to say hello to eveyone.
HELLO TO EVERYONE....PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT I CAN'T STAY ON HERE TOO LONG OR I GET IN A TWIST!!!! BELIEVE ME....WHEN THIS SUBSIDES....I'LL BE BACK WITH A FURY~!!
BOB
drumflower 02-24-2005, 08:32 PM We might have the beginnings of a garden sugar busters club here! lol
Monet,!! I have heard of New Dawn! It was one that I was considering! I would love a cutting if it isn't too much problem. I will pay for shipping, just let me know how much! I love all roses so it is hard for me to decide which ones!
Gator Girl! I bet your pond is pretty! I have a 2 level waterfall at one end. But I have to redo it this summer since one of the levels are leaking. So a good reason to redesign the falls! You are so lucky to live in Orlando! I was just there Feb. 4-12 visiting the MOUSE and it was freezing! But I loved all the pretty pansies, snapdraggons and azelas! Now I am back home with the snow of Indiana!
One thing I miss is homegrown tomatoes! This year I need to do a container veggie garden since my flowers are taking over my space! lol I am getting ready to set up my tables to start my seeds! I am so excitced!
Thank you all for your warm welcomes! I love to see your menus! Today I didn't so good on my plan but tommorrow is a new day! So what are your favorite snacks?
Jack, By the way, what is agave? I thought about adding splenda to a low carb bbq sauce, but thought homemade would be better. I will have to check out the recipes on this site.
Cindylcing 02-24-2005, 08:33 PM Evening everyone.
Well, I just had to weigh again this morning and glad I did..I was down a pound, and Ill take it lol. I dont know what was different. I try to figure out what I lose best with and I just cant figure it out. Sometimes I gain when I think I should lose and visa versa.. its crazy.
Congrats to all the "losers" that posted .. thats awesome.
Techwife and Woodfrogs- thanks for the ideas ! Id love to have smoothies but thats impossible for me to make at work during the day but... I thought I could premake a protein drink or two so I might just try that.
Thursdays menu:
b- 1 cup puffed Kashi cereal, 1/2 ww bagel with 1 tbl creamcheese
s- 2 celery stalks with sf pbutter
l- turkey roll ups with swiss, 1/2 cup LF cottege cheese
s- 1 apple
d- center cut pork chop with basil and tomato seasoning, 1 cup steamed brocilli
s- 1oz pumpkin seeds
Ellen 02-24-2005, 10:30 PM CINDY: My husband carries a protein smoothie to work to have for his afternoon snack. We make it with strawberries in the blender using milk and Designer Whey, and I guess it tastes pretty good when he drinks it...he is a bit picky (spoiled is more like it) and he has been doing this for several years. Another idea is to buy a Tupperware shaker, and mix up a protein drink in it and drink it right from the cup, wash it and store it in your desk. If you have access to a refrigerator, all you need is the protein powder and milk in the fridge.
DRUM: I will make some cuttings and get them going to root. It will take a few weeks, since I don't want to try mailing you baby cuttings that will not be hardy enough to make it. You may have to baby it for a year, but my New Dawn is awesome...it would eat the yard and the house if I did not hack it back each spring. And it blooms well. Every cutting I have made has done really well. I had one that was blooming in a pot, but Tom moved it, and we did not know the roots had grown through the bottom of the pot into the soil beneath. It was the heat of summer, and it just could not handle that kind of stress and died on me. Now I keep all my potted cuttings off the ground! :)
BOB: Take care of yourself....and stop in for a fly by post when you can. We just miss you when you don't check in. :)
Dinner tonight was good. I had two scrambled eggs, nappa, Gai Lon broccoli, Shanghai bok choy stir fried with some onion, and garnished with sesame seeds. I did taste the soba noodles (buckwheat and ok- just had too many starches today).
Ok- off to order my garden seeds...I should have done it a month ago!
Teensybean 02-25-2005, 01:28 AM Hello fellow Sugar Buster's!
Not much happening today. Cleaned house today and washed down all the walls in the bathroom, along with the cabinets. Yeah, it's all clean and fresh again. Was going to start in the dining room tomorrow, but looks like we will be spending the day at the hospital. Edna isn't doing any better, so we will go up and spell her kids for awhile. Ted talked to her on the phone today and said she could barely answer him. I sure hope this is not a sign of things to come. She is 78 years old, but has had quite a time lately. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Menu for today--
1/2 grapefruit before exercising.
B-- 1 venison hot link, 1 slice pumpernickel toast, 1 T sf PB, sf blackberry jam, Lite 85 yogurt.
apple
L--4 oz leftover cube steak, 1 lc WW tortilla with 1 T lc BBQ sauce, 1/2 c ff cottage cheese. 1/2 sweet red pepper.
orange
D-- Salsa chicken (chicken breast with mushrooms, cheese, salsa, olives)
1/2 c refried beans, 1/2 c spaghetti squash, 4 oz blackberries.
On to some replies.....
Tech-- Congrats on being in the 60's!! Have a great time skiing. Never did learn. Never like the cold enough to want to get out in it, lol. And we have some awesome ski resorts around here. But they are all closed down. We haven't had any snow to speak of this winter. Hope they will be okay financially for the year....... The CD is a good idea. For my birthday in January my dh ordered me the Time Life series of the Ultimate 70's collection. I love it, 10 glorious CD's, and boy, the memories it brings back. These were my high school years!!
Jackie-- 20 minutes is better than nothing. Hope you can get some sleep tonight, and hope you are not coming down with anything.
Monet-- My condolences to James and the family. Wow, 30 is way to young!! Sure makes you stop and think, doesn't it? Congrats on the 4 pounds, that's great!!
Drum-- Welcome to the SBer's board. Sounds like you are off to a great start. I have only used Kraft's Carb Well BBQ sauce. Your pond sounds great......we want to put in a water fall and pond.....someday. When we can agree on where to put it, lol.
Fillise-- I keep waiting for that last punch.....but it has been like this for the last 3 weeks. We are really going to be hurting this summer. It was so dry last year, and now with the lack of snow this winter.......our precip level for the month of Feb. is 0. This is the Pacific Northwest, for crying out loud. We are supposed to be up to our arses in snow. I really feel sorry for the ski resort owners, a total loss this year.
Ladybug-- Welcome to our small corner of the world. I started out at a whopping 270, and with Protein Power and then SB had lost 112 pounds, for a low of 158. Have gained a few back, but am seriously working on it again. Good luck on your journey, and great success to you. Stick around and enjoy your new way of eating.
Heart-- Hang in there, the loss of a child always hits hard. ((((HUGS))))
Gator-- A mini vacation?? It is nice to just get away, even for a night. Wish we could do it more often!!
BOB--Take care of yourself.
Sweet dreams you all...............
Ellen 02-25-2005, 08:53 AM Good Morning! I just had to get on the metal monster this morning and see if taking this metformin was still doing anything....down another 1/2 pound! Not the best way to lose, but I will take it.
Not much in the way of news today. The weather seems to have cleared off. I would love to go walk for an hour, but today is my volunteer day at the church office, then I am meeting my young friend for lunch, as today is her birthday. After lunch, we are going to head over to a mall and shop a bit. If we go to the outlet mall I am thinking we ought to, it is 7/8 of a mile around inside. I will make sure we get in at least one lap, and will wear my pedometer, which I forget so easily. I keep trying to put it here by the computer so I will see it, as Gator suggests, but I look at it, put on my glasses, and walk away to get dressed! Duh! :)
I will check back later...its time to get a cup of tea or something to wake me up!
Solly 02-25-2005, 09:38 AM Happy Friday :D
Thanks goodness it is finally here.
Got my pies all cut and slaw dished up and got home and got my 17 minutes in ont he TM and 20 minutes of wts. I even surprised myself. Sat inthe hot tub for 20 minutes, ate a ww pizza and fell asleep on the couch.
No big plans for the weekend. I am making my DH a fleece throw and I want to finish it this weekend. They are so easy to make b/c I can't even sew buttons on. Cut and tie. They are soo warm too.
Bob, thanks for the note from Deb, but I don't believe it. I've given up hope that she will come back. Glad your arm is somewhat better.
Drum, agave is a sweetner from the catus plant. Tastes like honey to me. You can get it online or at some health food stores. It is expensive but worth it. It is great in Deb's cheesecake recipe. Make sure you look for that one too.
Cindy, you can't figure out your body, so you might as well quit trying. You can be great and gain or bad and lose and then you lose a lot allat once. Go figure. Congrats on the pound though.
Gator, your little trip sounded like fun. It's always fun to go away to a game and spend the night. Plus they won!
Teensy, Sure hope your SIL is getting better. It is hard whenthey get to that age and start slipping. You can come to my house and wash all the walls you want. My mom used to do that about 2-3 times a year. Not me.
Monet, have fun with your friend and don'tbuy too much at the mall.
Be back later.
Ellen 02-25-2005, 09:58 AM JACK: No sewing on that fleece throw? What are you cutting and what do you tie? Sounds like my kind of project...please share!
techwife 02-25-2005, 10:33 AM Cindy: LOL I remember, at my last job before making my kitchen my office, the people that had offices right next to the breakroom always being peeved at the noise coming from the people eating lunch or on break. I can just see them now if I'd brought in my blender and started crushing ice!! It makes such a racket!! And way to go on the pound down! I know I lose sometimes when I eat off plan and then when I'm so strict with my eating the scale remains the same. Go figure!
Teensy: I'm with Jack!! I dust my walls and then if they look dirty they get painted!! May sound gross, but that's the way my mom did it. Except for like you said, in the bathroom the condensation does make for some nasty streaks so I do that, too, from time to time. My bathroom's so small it's not much more effort than washing the tub and tiles!! As for CD's and music...I love the old stuff. I live on the Canadian border near Kingston and we get an 80's/70's station from there, but I have to say that the music is a bit more, say, European 80's/70's...like more techno than I remember from my days. Funny thing is that, although I like oldies, I'd love to hear some new music but I really hate most of what I hear...there are so few bands that I can tolerate. I like Dave Matthews, Smashmouth was cool, and there are a few songs here and there I like, but (alright...I'm gonna sound old here) the music today just isn't what it used to be!! If I find a music station that plays current music, its either foul-mouthed rap or annoying hip hop sung by a vampy teenage girl. Is it just me?
Jack: I love to make blanket's, too, but mine are crocheted which takes foreverrrrr...but its great to have something to do while watching tv...makes you feel like you're accomplishing something...
Monet: Be sure not to go looking for that 1/2 pound!! It may find you!! And have fun shopping!!
Drum: Tomatoes are GREAT grown in pots! You can plant two or three and they'll keep you in tomatoes all summer! My neighbor across the street brings me over a bagful once or twice because he gets overrun with them and then I make a tomato sandwich...WW bread, mayo and a big, thick slice of tomato...I can hardly wait to grow my own!! Oh...and until I grow my own tomatoes, Triscuits and cheese is my favorite snack...it's legal, but probably not ideal as they suggest a piece of fruit for a snack...but if I stick to six triscuits and six pieces of cheddar or monterey, I don't feel too guilty. ;)
BOB:  So nice to see you're smiling face from time to time!!
Well, I think that takes care of my replies for now...for breakfast I had a repeat of yesterday...1/2 grapefruit, 2 breakfast sausages, scrambled eggs, coffee...skipped the toast as I'm trying to cut down on the bread and 'starchy carbs'.
And next week my hubby is going to work in Vermont and...WE'RE GOING WITH HIM!! Yay!! We're going to check it out to see if it's a place we could live...affordability, schools, houses, etc. And we're going to take a tour at the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory and maybe bring back some Teddy Bear pelts and then we'll go to the (I'll definitely NOT be on plan THIS day!!) BEN AND JERRY'S FACTORY!! I'm salivating just thinking about it!! I'll probably eat a couple pints of ice cream and then drop five pounds, knowing the trends of my dieting/weight loss. Just like Cindy ws saying...eat on plan and get stuck...go off plan and loose a few. :dizzy:
So, I got Shelley's classwork from her teacher that she'll be missing and I have to teach her fractions. I'll be homeschooling for a week, but with no house to clean and sitting in a hotel room waiting for DH to come back from work, we'll have plenty of time for that and romping around in the hotel pool and ordering room service. I got another Clive Cussler book at the library to read and I"m looking forward to reeeelaxing!! DH is always befuddled by this, saying "You don't work...how come you can't relax every day?" He jsut doesn't know...and before I became a stay at home mom, I swore I would have my house as clean as it gets, etc...but it's just so different when you're doing it. I always have these little projects looming over my head, the curtains I have to finish for DS's room, the quilt I have to assemble for a Girl Scout project (I'll do most of it and let them finish it so it actually gets done!!). It'll be nice to sit around and have the maid come in and clean up, etc...
Well, speakign of little projects...I have to get going on the daily rituals...hope everyone has a great OP day!!

kengjw 02-25-2005, 10:54 AM Yep, it's me again. I haven't fall off the face of the earth but more like sick like a dog. Infact my whole family has been sicked with this cold bug flying around. I am so sicked of being sicked...and so drained for not feeling alive. I am just trying to take each day as it comes :( Back to 3 weeks ago, dh caught this cold bug at work and a week later Jess got it. She was sicked as can be, then one week later I got it as well. Gosh...I felt so rotten and my dr said it takes pregnant women much longer time to recover and I couldn't agree with him more. Dh finally went to see a dr after he was so sicked for 3 weeks and found that he has liquid in his lungs so now he is on antibiotics. I think he has started to feel better now and should go back to work today. I have to say..I am actually looking forward for him to be out of the house since I am tired of taking care of him on top of my daughter. Jess seems to be recovering well but still trying to get the last bit of the virus out of her system. I pray and hope she recovers completely. I am so ready to get better and feel like I am alive again.
On a much lighter note, the baby is fine. I am about 12 weeks pregnant now. I had no idea I was further along that I thought but certainly is a good news. Eating sucks so I have nothing to report. I totally lost my taste bud and also my appetize. If I don't need to eat, I would not but I know there is not a choice so I have been struggling to get food in my mouth. Everything seems so yucky and cooking at home is like a torture. Hmmm...can you tell I am so frustrated and may I say "bitter" too? I really need to get over this. It is really draining me physically and emotionally. I just want to stop by and report that I am still alive and the baby is well.
Hope everyone is doing well. Miss you all.
Julia
techwife 02-25-2005, 01:06 PM OH JULIA...I SO hear ya with the being sick and pregnant thing. And they tell you...oh, here, have a tylenol and a sudafed...when what you REALLY want is a double dose of NyQuil and a professional massage!! LOL Don't worry...the important thing is that the baby is A-OK. And I can remember going grocery shoppign pregnant and nearly tossing my cookies at the smells...every sense is so enhanced when your're preggers. I suppose its so you'll naturally stay away from things that are bad for the baby...but I think our senses get a little out of hand. At 12 months aren't you into your second trimester? Or close to it...things get better then. And those darn hubbies when they're sick...what can I say?...they're WORSE than sick kids!! You sound so much like me when I was pregnant with my son...we had gutted our entire upstairs of everything exept the outside wall studs. All that was left was the hole in the floor for the stairs going down. Then we re-did the whole floorplan and put up new walls, drywall, sockets, windows, the works. And here I am in July...due in December...sanding the drywall in my son's nursery on the walls and ceiling, crying my eyes out saying, "I have to get my baby's nursery done...bwahahah"...tears streaming through the drywall dust on my face. I had six months before he was due and my parents and my husband had it all under control, but I was such a spazz about it and sooo emotional. Those lovely, lovely hormones just take you on such an emotional rollercoaster. You'll feel better soon...you can do it...as for being on plan...gawd...just eat what goes down for now!! Pregnancy is NO time for dieting...you have to eat to keep your energy. I can't remember...are ou on sugar busters because of weight loss or you need a low sugar eating system for your health? If its just for weight...definitely go have a donut or a box of oreos if it boosts your spirits...your waistline can be salvaged after the baby's born!! Of course, 4 1/2 years after my baby was born, I'm STILL salvaging mine!! LOL
EDIT: I meant 12 weeks...not 12 MONTHS...Gawd FORBID!!!
Ellen 02-25-2005, 05:40 PM KENG: Thanks so much for stopping by and letting us know how you are doing! I am so sorry you are all sick. I hope everyone will be all better soon. I know how you feel with being nauseated and all. I had nine months of that, with each pregnancy. I did have maybe three weeks in the middle of the seventh month were I felt kind of ok, but it did not last! And like Tech, I figured I would salvage the ole waistline while nursing...haha...the last one was weaned 17 years ago, and I am still trying to salvage the waistline! :) Eat sensibly, and you will be fine. :grouphug: We miss you, so stop by now and then and let us know how you are!
Ellen 02-25-2005, 05:45 PM I just got in from lunch with my birthday friend. I twisted my ankle getting out of the car and boy does it hurt! I can barely put any weight on it. What a mess I am!
I weighed again this morning, after I posted. I was down another 1/2 pound after the morning er, 'routine', so I am down five since Wednesday. Amazing, eh? I just hope the metformin keeps working. I would love to find the key to getting this stuff I gained off...its almost worth the intestinal distress to see the scale go down!
We are supposed to go to a surprise dinner for the birthday girl tonight...so I better go and rest this ankle and hope I can walk by then....
Solly 02-25-2005, 05:53 PM Just a quickie. My day got crazy after I got off this morning. Heading out to work the fish fry and going to kaoake after that.
Monet, the throws are soo easy. Get 2 yards of a print ( I did a UK and a TN) and a solid back. Lay them out. Cut a 5" square out of each corner and them cut 1 1/4" strips around the whole throw. Go back and knot them. Takes about 1 hours if you work non-stop. My kind of project. I'm making my DH one with ducks on it now. Stay off that ankle. Girl, that is 2 times in 2 weeks you have fallen.
Tech, I used to knit, but can't crochet. The crocheted neck scarves witht he fun fur are the rage here now. Have a great time in Vermon. Does your DH still have a head on his shoulders after that remark?
Ken, so glad to hear from you. We have been worried about you. Sorry you all have been so sick. Hope you get better soon and can spend some time with us.
Have a great weekend everyone. See ya Monday.
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 02-25-2005, 07:20 PM Couldn't resist sharing this one with you....
My arm is numb today...any ideas??? Carpal Tunnel Syndrome??? MAYBE????
Movie picks for the weekend:
MANHOOD
AROUND THE BEND
I'll let y'all know how they are....
The breathalizer
Ethel was a bit of a demon in her wheelchair and loved
to charge around the nursing home, taking corners on
one wheel, and getting up to maximum speed on the long
corridors. Because the poor woman was one sandwich
short of a picnic, the other residents tolerated her, and
some of the males actually joined in.
One day, Ethel was speeding up one corridor when a
door opened and Kooky Clarence stepped out with his
arm outstretched. "STOP!" he shouted in a firm voice.
"Have you got a license for that thing?"
Ethel fished around in her handbag and pulled out a
Kit Kat wrapper, and held it up to him. "OK" he said,
and away Ethel sped down the hall.
As she took the corner near the TV lounge on one
wheel, Weird Harold popped out in front of her and
shouted "STOP! Have you got proof of insurance?"
Ethel dug into her handbag, pulled out a drink
coaster, and held it up to him. Harold nodded, and
said "Carry on, ma'am." As Ethel neared the final
corridor before the front door, Crazy Craig stepped
out in front of her, stark naked, with a very sizable
erection.
"Oh, good grief," cried Ethel, "not the Breathalyzer
again."
BOB
Ellen 02-26-2005, 11:02 AM Good Morning! We stayed up so late last night, we are getting a late start this morning. I had one cup of coffee, :coffee: and now I will move on to hot tea. I am not quite hungry yet, so I am biding my time until I am. I ate too much last night, and when will I learn to behave? We went to a restaurant, and I had a hard time ordering because we were late, and the waitress was taking orders as soon as we got there. Instead of taking my time, I ordered the first thing that caught my eye...an Italian Beef sandwich. It was served on a white bun, and with waffle fries. I ate it all. Then we went to the home of the birthday honoree, and ate chocolate cake made with two cups of Guinness stout...it was delicious, AND I had to try the carrot cake and blueberry wine. Something I ate at dinner...the mayo style sauce probably, disagreed with me. After I got it out of my stomach, I was a bit better, but was very glad to get home at 1:30 and crawl in bed. I am too old to keep up with these young folks!
Did I mention yesterday that I twisted my ankle? Well, it is a bit better today, but I still can't put much weight on it. I feel a bit frustrated, since Tom's aunt and uncle are coming from Iowa on Tuesday and I have a lot of cleaning to do. It is not going to get done very well if I have to hobble around. :(
I am afraid to get on the scale this morning...so I will just wait a few days. No need to discourage myself. I had lost another half pound yesterday morning, so I was down about 5, but to be honest, I am having a hard time keeping track of where I was week to week. All I know is that my low is a long way off, and I would really like to get back down there. I am afraid it is not going to be easy as my thyroid seems to have slowed again, and I can't go to my doctor since he was dropped by my insurance company. I am going to have to find a new one, and its going to be difficult. It is so hard to find a good doctor who can treat thryoid issues correctly....sigh.
Ok, enough of my pity party. We have a young couple coming over to dig up some of our blueberry runners to plant at their family farm. They will probably stay for lunch, so I will fix chicken teriyaki and soba noodles with some veggies.
 I will check in later! I hope I won't be talking to myself all weekend!
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 02-26-2005, 11:10 AM GOOD SATURDAY MORNING TO ALL YOU BUSTER BUDDYS!

It's beautiful here today...no humidity, 60 degrees, slight breeze off the Gulf...WONDERFUL!!!!
I'm getting ready to bust out of here to take Kate to the Beauty Shop and I'll get shorned while I'm there....
When I get back, I've got to figure out hooking up this VERIZON DSL...My friend has my hard drive all ready, I just have to connect it up...He actually did it on Monday night, but I've been so tired this week that I could have cared less!
I'll check in when I get back.
BOB
techwife 02-26-2005, 11:13 AM I'll talk to you, Monet!! Sounds like you made the best of your splurging last night...except for the mayo part. :(
About the blueberries. I'd LOVE to plant some blueberries. What are the ideal requirements for them, sun/shade wise and land dryness/wetness wise? My next door neighbor said something about planting them in a ditch because they like the moistness and lots of sun. Does this sound right to you? I'm also interested in raspberries and I'm assuming they'd be about the same in requirements. I can taste them now with my ww waffles!! Yuuuuuu-um!!
Kris
Cindylcing 02-26-2005, 12:15 PM Happy Saturday to all.
Monet - so sorry to hear about your ankle. Hope it heals quickly for you.
Bob- could your numb arm be a pinched nerve? I get that now and then.

THE BIG ORANGE BABE 02-26-2005, 01:15 PM Cindy,
GOOD GAWD WOMAN...be glad you weren't here for the past two years! I had a pinched nerve on the right side that started at the base of my neck and ran thru my shoulder blade and down through my arm. They had me on so much medication that I was a walking zombie! I finally went to Pain Management and had a series of injections. It's only now that it's starting on the left side. I won't go through what I did before...I'll get with my Pain Doc and let him inject me on the other side! My problem would not resolve itself for some reason....and while in the process, I found out that I have a buldging disc...when it rains on BOB it pours! Good diagnosis on your part though...you hit the nail on the head!
When you make your smoothies, do you use yogurt?
Glad you've got some time off...enjoy your weekend!
TECH.... I never thought about planting raspberries....GAWD I LOVE THEM!!!
I'll be interested in hearing what THE CRIPPLED AND MANGLED IN ATLANTA has to say about that....
HEY GATOR....is it chilly over there? It's cloudy here and that makes it feel colder than it really is. RAIN TOMORROW....get that yardwork done today!
BOB
Cindylcing 02-26-2005, 02:12 PM Bob..sorry to hear of the nerve problem. That must of been horrible. I had a pinched nerve recently in my neck and that was no fun at all!
For my smoothies I use... 1 cup LF plain yogurt, 1/4 cup of cream + 1/4 cup water, a splash of sf Davinic vanilla and I usually use 1/2 cup frozen blueberries. (Can use any frozen fruit). And then blend in the blender until smooth.
Ellen 02-26-2005, 03:37 PM HO, ho! Its the crippled and mangled from Atlanta, checking in! ;)
Just had lunch...teriyaki chicken, on a bed of soba noodles and stir fried nappa cabbage. All legal and yummy! I am tired of hobbling around on the foot though, and I may take a nap.
TECH: Blueberries like full sun. I never heard of planting them in a ditch. We just have ours in a sunny place along the fence. At our old house, we had them along the driveway, and they did well there. You have to plant two different varieties so they can cross pollinate, or you won't get any fruit. A good blueberry bush will produce a gallon or more of berries after a couple of years here, so I imagine they might be a bit slower way up north. They grow really well in Michigan, so I imagine there are varieties that do well in the north that we don't necessarily see here. I do know that you should NOT fertilize them the first year. Plant them, water them well, mulch them, but don't fertilize until the second year. Raspberries grow ok here, but we don't have any. Blackberries grow wild here, so why bother planting them? :) Both are more bramble type bushes, so I think they can tolerate more shade than the blueberries. You can probably find both at someplace like Johnny's. (which is my favorite place to get seeds and stuff) I love having the blueberries. Every year though, I have to fight the dang birds for the berries!
BOB: I feel a bit clumsy, but I did not trip or fall on the ankle! I just turned it a bit funny getting out of the car. I thought once I walked on it a bit, it would be fine, but I was wrong. :( Tom, my to my disappointment, has decided he can't afford to take a vacation just now. SO, we are carrying his aunt and uncle down to visit his mother, and just coming home. We WILL be going to Sarasota sometime over the summer or early fall, but it seems a long way off. :(
CINDY: I sure am frustrated with the ankle...with out of town company coming Tuesday, I really need to clean, but who wants to clean when they can barely hobble? Can I make a suggestion on your menu? I don't think you are eating enough protein. Like for breakfast, you could add an egg, or even some protein powder to the smoothie. I would try using skim milk instead of the cream. With SB its not the carbs...you don't have to be concerned with them....its the glycemic index. A good solid breakfast with protein gets your metabolism tuned for the day. Just a thought....
I believe its time for Monet's nap.... yawn! I bid you all sweet dreams...or something.
Later!
Cindylcing 02-26-2005, 08:53 PM Monet, that was great info on the blueberries. I might grow some myself.
Thanks for the breakfast suggestion. The only reason I dont use milk is I dont buy any. That was one of the hardest things for me to stop when I first was doing Atkins so I havnt bought any for over a year and a half. I think If I did it would mostly go to waste. I do buy half n half ( hubby uses it in his coffee) and I dulite it down when I do use it . I used to eat a good amount of protein in the mornings but since trying to cut down fat and calories Ive kinda moved away from eating much in the mornings. I guess Im still trying to balance my food with SB. Next week Im going to start adding some protien ( homemade) shakes in during the day. I'll try to add some eggs in most days for breakfast. :)
drumflower 02-26-2005, 08:54 PM I hope you feel better Monet! I LOVE blueberries! We have a ton of blueberry farms around us , so when they are in season we pick a lot to freeze! They have to last all year!
I am so excited! I went to the health food store and found some WW couscous! I am trying it tonight with some tomatoes, basil and garlic! Maybe some parmasan cheese would be good with it! We are having a party tonight with me and DH . We are having wine, steaks, and shrimp! Then for dessert I am baking some mixed berries with splenda, served with low carb vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream! Yummy! Tommorrow I am making a beef roast and ww noodles! YUM! By the way, I found some agave nectar! Is that stuff really legal? It tastes so much like honey! It tastes too good to be true! ;) If it is legal, it would be great in tea! Have a great night everyone! I am going to watch The Notebook on video! I read the book and am looking forward to the movie. It is one of the most romantic stories! He also wrote Message in a Bottle! I love Nicolas Sparks!
