Hello all!

Oprah is starting a 12 week blitz to a new body. Here is the link to her website http://www2.oprah.com/presents/2005/bootcamp/bootcamp_main.jhtml if you want to check it out.

Starting tomarrow, 2/14, I'm making the commitment. My plan is to incorporate Dr. Phil's philosophies and keys into this jump start to fittness. I need a kick in the rear and this is it. If you'd like to join me, then WELCOME!!! I'm sure we will all need the support.

I will post some of my breakfast ideas here as that seems like it will be the hardest meal to fit into this plan. I have DS (Ben, 5 months) in my hands right now so I'll do it as soon as I have a couple hands :)

Well I am going to give it a try because I really need to do something to kick myself into gear. I tried the rapid start plan again but got way off track because of my son being sick and regained about 3 lbs. I happened to notice that Bob Greene has a new book out from last month which sounds pretty much like this program. I've got it on reserve at the library but I might have a look at it at the book store just to see what he's got for breakfast ideas. I can't say that I am too much into eat veggies for breakfast!! Also I'm hoping that Oprah's site is going to have more ideas on how much protein we should be eating. It can't be unlimited, does she mean like just a regular serving for each meal?? I suppose that basically this is similar to dr. phil's plan except for the whole grain carb servings and the dairy. I'd like to have a look at his book to see what he says about the dairy because women cannot go for that long with no dairy. I'd hate to buy another diet book though because I feel like I"ve supported the diet industry enough over the past 20 years or so. Is anyone going to buy this book if they are doing the program? For the exercise I"m also just going to do 5 days a week but I will try to up the intensity as she describes.

Here are a couple of my breakfast ideas. I too am curious about the dairy. I chose some plain nonfat yougurt with berries for breakfast when creating my meal plan. I know yogurt is "white", but I don't think it lands in this starch and sugar category.

Jen-Makes sense that this program coinsides with Bob Greene's new book. I hadn't realized that. I don't plan on buying it. Like you I feel I've spent enough on the diet industry. If I get to a library I may look through it.

Blueberry Smoothie

1 1/2 cups blueberries, frozen
1/2 cup water, or ice
1 t splenda (I leave this out)
2 1/3 Tablespoons almonds, sliced

Obviouly this is a smoothie so you just toss in a blender and blend.

1 egg
2 egg whites
1 1/2 ounces cheddar cheese, lowfat, grated

Eggs are a lean protein, right?

Chicken Breakfast Suasage (this came form the meal plans listed on Dr. Phil's site)
3 ounces ground chicken breast
1 cup spinach
herbs
1 ounce lowfat cheddar cheese

The directions pretty much said saute, I think you's leave the cheese out until right before it's cooked

Egg's Florentine (another one from Dr. Phil's site)
1 egg
2 egg whites
1 cup spinach
2 ounces feta cheese, reduced fat
1/2 melon, chunks
Poach eggs and serve over sauted spinach with cheese; serve with melon chunks

Joe's Scramble (also from Dr. Phil's Site)
2 ounces ground chicken
mushroom
onion
garlic
chopped spinach
1 egg
2 egg white
1 medium tomato, sliced

Scramble everything except tomato, then serve with tomato slices

OJ Smoothie

1/2 cup orange juice
1 orange, peeled
3/4 cup water or ice cubes
2 1/3 tablespoons almonds, sliced

Peach smoothie
1 3/4 cups peaches, fresh or frozen
1/2 cup water, or ice
1 teaspoon splenda
2 1/3 Tablespoons almonds, sliced

Yogurt Parfait (Dr. Phil's site)
1 cup plain nonfat yogurt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup berries
1/2 cup kashi Go Lean Cereal (leave out the first month)

Mix yogurt, cin., and vanilla, layer with berries and after the first month the cereal

Some of these may not work for the bootcamp plan. I think they do, but I have to double check the details once they are avaiable. If you don't thinks omethingf its the rules, let me know any advice is certainly welcome. I ahve never done anything like this. I've really only tried slimfast and WW, never anything with certain food restrictions.

I don't plan on eating this any eggs in a week or anything, they are just some ideas I found.

Well DH is yelling for me to come watch the kids, so I guess my computer time is up :) HAve a greta night. I can't wait til tomarrow.

Well here it is! Valentine's Day and the first day of bootcamp! I am weighing in at 228.4 lbs. I'm going to try and find some more info today either from having a look at Bob's book or getting the O Magazine if it has more info than what is on the web site. I"ll post anything I find out. Have a great day everyone and good luck!!

Welcoem To Boot Camp!

Well it's here! The first day. I went to Oprah's site signed up for all the info. Hopefully there is more coming.

So far there are three of us

Blissful

I am so excited. I feel strong and committed and with the help of you ladies I feel I can do this. I'm counting on you all ;)

I am currently printing out new journals I created in excel. I created a meal plan in master cook. I have to review it to make sure it fits in and then I am popping it in my notebook. I have a three ring binder with all my progress charts I have made and journals, as well as workout ideas, recipes and stuff. I am removing all my WW stuff from it. I plan on doing WW after boot camp, but I don't want it there taking up space.

So now it's breakfast with DD (Audrianna aka AJ, 21 months) and workout number 1. I think today will be a double up the workout day. Get it out of teh way right off. I'm thinking the second workouts on Monday and Thursday, and doing the double cardio day on Wednesday. Gives me Tuesday with just the single workout to recover, Friday and Saturday to do the single workouts and SUnday off. If I miss oneof the second workouts on Monday or Thursday I still have Friday and Saturday in the week to catch up.

I printed out the contract on Oprah's site and am going to sign and put it on my fridge. Is anyone else doing this?

I am also going to try to focus on 1 key a week from Dr. Phil for the first 7 weeks. This week is Right Thinking. How do you guys incorporate right thinking in your lives?

Better run AJ is up and ready to get out of Bed.

Welcome Mrs. Nuce!! This is going to be great!

I just finished the first work out only 95 more to go LOL. Ok can't think of it that way yet, seems like too many. It felt good though. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill increasing my speed by .2 or incline by 1 every two minutes. I alternated them. I started small only 2.6 mph and 0 incline. It's been a while since I worked out and so I figured I'd start small. I was really sweating by the time I finished though. Then I did 20 minutes of weights. I'm not really sure what to do with them I've never actually used them and I had them for about 8 years LOL. So I did 10 reps of the 1 of the moves they have on Oprah's site, took a 15 second break and did 10 more until I had been doing that for 5 minutes and then did the next of the four moves. Four moves times five minutes each gave me 20 minutes.

I have a set of 5 DVD's with 10 different workouts. I am going to see if I can incorporate them a couple days a week for either the resistence or the cardio.

I hope you don't mind but I am probably going to post alot, especially early on. It keeps me on track.

Well off to play some learning games with AJ! Have a good one all!

I had a quick look at O Magazine at the grocery store and there wasn't any more info than what is on her web site so I don't think she's got any hard and fast rules at this point except for not eating carbs. I had a egg white omlet with green peppers and ham and also added in 1 whole egg, 1/2 banana, that was breakfast. I went to the gym, did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine and 20 minutes on the weight machines. I don't care for free weights, at least not at the gym, I'd rather use the machines. For lunch I am using one of my carb days to finish off some left over spaghetti and I've added in about 2 cups of veggies. Overall I'd say the day is going pretty good. I'll probably be posting a lot too so don't worry about it misty. At least you can't eat while you type!

It is only 2:10 here in BC, so Oprah has not been on yet, I will watch the show and take note if I need to and go to the gym this afternoon!
I have weighed myself and yikes!!!! I went up from last week...so my starting weight is 332.....oh my poor skeleton holding all that!!!! :o
Will post more after the show!!!
Cheers all!!!

Go figure this okay, I get to work and they've got a buffet laid out in the back, nothing whatsoever that I can eat, no veggie tray or fruits and of course everything looked just amazing. But I didn't eat one thing, I'm sticking to this no matter what. I have to, I'm just sick of being so fat, I can't take it anymore. So I'm eating tuna, melon and I had a couple of glasses of V8. I know it is better to have real veggies but I figured it was better than being tempted by cookies and cake.

Anyone have any specific weight goals for these 12 weeks? I'm hoping to get under 200 which would be like 29 lbs. That might be a big of a stretch but actually I'm thinking with a complete carb cutback that it might be feasible.

I printed out Oprah's boot camp contract and I'll hang it on the fridge after I put lots of big red stars on it so it is more noticable. I might print out a couple more and hang them around the house to keep me on track. I think the hardest bit is just going to get used to not snacking on cookies and crackers but I"m hoping that if I can stick to it for a couple of weeks that the cravings for this stuff will subside.

Good evening ladies.

Blissful- Don't worry about what the scale saystoday, look forward to what it will say in the future :)

Jen- Great job avoiding the buffet!!!! That had to be a difficult situation, but you made the descion to stick to your plan an dyou did it! I am not going to set a weight goal. I am just going to set a time goal of making it through the 12 weeks. I seem to keep missing my weight goals and it's depressing. I am just going to focus on doing my best.

I caught bits and pieces of Oprah. The kids were whining and crying the ENTIRE time and the phone kept ringing. It comes on a 4 here and most days AJ is content to play on her own and Ben usually sleeps, but not today. So I didn't get much more information than I had before. I did catch that you need to make a descion to succeed, and 5 of the 6 rules they mention.

I had a yummy turkey herb soup for dinner with baked squash. Dh had steak and baked potatoes. He made it himself. Aj had a combination of both dinners. I am going to do a second workout, a dvd, as soona s dinner settles down. I drank 2 quarts plus of water, I had to stop to pee in the middle of my first workout LOL.

I signed the contract ann put it on my fridge, I am going to make a couple more like Jen suggested. We'll see how much harassment I get from my father in law and my brother in laws. They live across the road and bug me about everything I do. But I don't care. They are all fat, so when I am skinny I'll be the one who gets the last laugh.

Well I should hit that work out. It will feel good to have it out of the way.

Happy Valentines Day aka S.A.D. (Singles Awareness Day!!)

I would like to join you all in the boot camp. I happened to stay home from work today, and by chance caught the Oprah show. I'm very glad I did. I've struggled with my weight all my life. I have finally decided to do something about it. I'm weight in at 340, my highest weight ever. I've also joined at Oprah's site, and signed the contract. I've printed it out and hung it next to my bathroom mirror. Hopefully this will help to get me motivated to work out in the mornings! Since I missed this morning, I'm going to get in a workout tonight. Come tomorrow morning, maybe knowing that I finished a workout tonight will help get me out of bed when the dreaded alarm clock goes off!

WELCOME CHARLOTTE!! There must have been a reason you stayed home today, maybe something more than luck that you caught a show that will change things for you.

Well, I'm exhausted!! I tried to do the dvd but AJ was crawling through my legs the whole time as I tried to do lunges, so I hit the tread mill and managed to get in 11 minutes or so beofre Ben started screaming. He's teething, he got his first tooth Saturaday so there is another one on it's way. So I had to cash in for the night as far as exercise goes. I had a really hard time not eating after 8. I am hungry, not just I want to eat b/c I have the munchies, but actually having growling stomach. I felt ful after dinner, so not sure what's up with that. I managed, but I did have two cups of tea. They were 0 calories, so its not really eating, right?

So I am going to bed feeling good about how the day went. I managed to get in two workouts (even though one was cut short and I will try to make up a full second session two more days this week). I ate well, I didn't obsess over points. It feels great. We are succeeding!!

Hi! I would like to join you all in the Oprah Boot Camp as well. I just watched the show today (I am in Germany, AFN plays Oprah a day behind you guys in the States and Canada) and was inspired. I just bought Bob Greene's Total Body Makeover and will read it over tonight and plan on getting my exercise ideas from him and psychological help from Dr. Phil's book. I haven't signed up on Oprah's site yet, plan on going there after this post and checking in there. Nice to meet you all!

Jen

Welcome BrisaLee! The more the merrier!

I ended up having a wicked sore throat last night and this morning as well so I'm probably coming down with a cold. Why does this always happen? I start a new program and next thing you know I am derailed by illness. I"m not going to let myself think that way though and keep pushing through. I had kind of a weird breakfast today, meatballs, sliced tomato and melon. I was trying to find some lean turkey bacon or sausages at the grocery store yesterday and couldn't find anything. I'll have to do a bit of searching I guess.

I do have a bit of a complaint about Oprah's bootcamp. I think in someways the exercise program may be a bit too much for people who haven't worked out much. I am quite sore this morning even though I didn't do more weights than what I have in the past. I think it is just because I haven't done much weights lately that I am feeling it now but I think that it would discourage a lot of people. I know how prone we are to leaping into new programs and then quitting because we end up being too sore and tired to continue. So I encourage everyone to take it easy with the workouts, start slow and don't feel guilty if you aren't up to Oprah's program right away. Let's start a bit slower if necessary so that we stick to it.

So I feel like crap this morning but I have to get my son over to daycare and then I have a job interview at 10 and then I"m going to the gym. I'll just drug myself up with some Tylenol to get through this morning. No idea what I"m going to have for lunch, maybe some tuna and veggies. See everyone later.

WELCOME BRISALEE!!!!

Jen, you'll get there. Take it easy but stay committed. You can do this! One step at a time you can make through each day and soo you will be feeling healthier and stronger and so proud b/c you decided to follow through and you did!

I agree on the exercise thing. I am going to try my best, but I am not in any kind of shape for some of this. But I did hear Oprah say on her show, commit to regular, vigorous exercise... we committed to 8 workouts a week, etc. I think this means this is what they did, but you should listen to your body and know what is appropriate for you. The key is to commit to regular exercise and push yourself just a bit more than you think you can do with out hurting yourself. Add incline to your treadmill, add a couple extra minutes. As long as you are honest with yourself about what you are doing. If you truly believe that what you are doing is vigorus and you commit to doing it faithfully you will succeed. You have to train your body, if you can't do all of these things start small and push yurself and seeif you can make it there by the end of teh 12 weeks. That's my plan. The second workout with the alternating treadmill to floor exercises just isn't going to happen in my house, my treadmill is wedged in an akward space with no room to move to the floor. I'd defeat the whole point b/c I'd have to go to another room for the floor work and drop my heart rate constantly. So I am going to do a DVD instead. I feel as long as I commit to working as hard as I can and I get those 8 workouts a week (a goal that works for me but may not work for everyone) then I am fullfilling the commitment I made on the contract.

I'll have to see if Bob's book is in the library or maybe ask for it for my birthday in March b/c I can't justify buying yet another weightloss book. I feel bad I spent so much on groceries just to avoid the white stuff. I have a feeling DH will be eating ALOT of soup and sandwhiches. AJ is loving all the fruits and veggies though.

Well I have to do some shopping then help my mom load some software on her pc (they just got a new computer and they can't even load software, they need help for EVERYTHING lol). AJ needs new sneakers and I have a feeling it will be hard to get her to part with the too small Elmo shoes she picked out herself in the fall. Please let walmart have some Elmo shoes! I am going to pack our lunch with us in case we are still at my parent's at lunch time.

Have a great day all!

I would also like to join you ladies in Oprah bootcamp. Yesterday I did my two workouts so I am pretty sore. The part about not eatting bread or carb type snacks is going to be the hard part for me. Oh well I need to do something to get this weight off of me.

I will post more later off to have my hair done.

Bev, the carbs are going to be a killer for me as well. Still I"m hoping that a couple of weeks of not eating stuff like cookies and crackers will break me from mindless snacking.

I had a job interview this morning and I went to the gym afterwards. I'm feeling very stuffy and not great but I got through my 30 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of weights. I can't say that I went all out but I did okay, certainly sweated enough!!

Well its lunchtime now and I've got to find something healthy to eat so take care all, have a good bootcamp day!

I just finished watching the show that I taped yesterday and wow!! Wasn't it amazing to see that guy who had lost 500 lbs and the woman in the bikini? My sense of the bootcamp diet now that I have seen the show is more just to cut out refined carbs (the white stuff) and that milk is probably okay (even though it is white!). I think the focus is more to be conscious of what you are eating and not eat 2-3 hours before bedtime.

Hi everyone, glad to see some more faces, well....read that more faces want to participate!!
I will not commit to 8 workouts/week, but will commit to 5!
I can do the "no white stuff", and I know I feel teriffic when I do cut that stuff out.
I will bump up the fruit and veggies, and crank up the water!
I will go to the gym and have done the pillates disc that I got out of the Special K box!!! OOOHHH I feel my abs already!!!
Are we going to weigh in once a week, or just whenever we want too?
I need to do it once a week to keep me focused and behaved!
For every 5lbs, I will get myself a cheap treat, like a new lotion or something not food related!

Hi all!

LONG DAY! I was so tired driving home from my mom's I actually had to stop and get out of the car a walk around. I was falling alseep, not a good thing with two babies in the car. So I should be in bed now. But I figured since I was up I'd do my workout. I was going flop days off so I could go to bed, but I didn't go to bed so instead of slacking off... I busted my butt and did the treadmill and weights. I feel so much better for it.

I like the reward idea Blissful! I was going to get a charm necklace and add a charm for every accomplishment. I thought it would inspire me as I wore it everyday. DH suggested instead he pay me $5 per pound I lost to be put away so when I reach my goal I get money to go shopping for all new clothes. Well he hasn't put away a dime and I've lost. I guess I'll have to think of a way to reward myself. Something just fun! One motivation I have is I bought a few things that are just a bit too small, they were on a huge sale, so I really want to wear them before the weather gets too warm.

Well going to bed. I am exhausted. Hope the job interview went well Jen! Have a great night!

I'd like to be in too - I've been needing some motivation, and like the idea of having a set time period (12 weeks) to commit to. My start weight was 169.5. Yesterday and today both went well, food- and exercise-wise. Didn't get home til 9:15 today but did my weights anyway! Yea! Got my regular workout out of the way this morning.

WELCOME BEV! WELCOME JENICRA!

Good morning ladies! Blissful asked if we are going to weigh in each week and I thinkwe should. I think since this satrted on Monday we sould post our weights on Monday. I can start a new thread each Monday and post all of our names and as the weights come in I will edit it and talley up the losses. I think it would be cool to keep a running total for the entire group. Is that ok for everyone? If you prefer to weigh in on a different day, just post as soon as you weigh your self.

Jenicra, great job on deciding to commit and sticking with the workout even when you got home late. It feels great doesn't it?

This week I have been focuising on my right thinking throughout my life, not just my weight. I had kind of fallen into a slump for a while there and just stopping the negative self talk has really helped me feel better.

Well I'm off to clean my house, so fun, huh? But it feels so good to see things clean. Take care talk to you all later! ~Misty

Morning all. Misty, good work getting your workout done even though you were feeling like going to bed. I did have a good interview and was offered the job. Right now I have 2 offers on the table but I"m waiting for another manager to call me because that of course is where I really want to work.

I've got a killer sore throat this morning. It kept me awake last night and I"ve been having trouble swallowing so I sure don't feel like eating anything at all. I'm going to the dr this afternoon. I've had sore throats before but nothing like this where I was having so much pain. I've got a cold coming on so it might just be that but it can't hurt to have it checked out. I don't know whether I should go to work or not. Apparently my current manager told the manager that I interviewed with yesterday that I have absenteeism issues. I've been off sick a couple of times in December and last month but I had a doctor's note because I had pneumonia. Then last week my son was sick so I had to stay home with him. So I"m a bit hesitant to call in sick, also since I am part-time I don't get paid for being off and seeing as I missed 2 days last week I don't really want to take off more time but right at this moment I don't really feel like working. Laying in bed is about as ambitious as I feel today. Still if I took some cold medication I'd feel better. Still it ticks me off that she said this about me when there are others who have far worse records that I do.

Blissful, I'm just planning on weighing in on Monday mornings. I get too weird about my weight when I weigh in more often. Also I have TOM coming up and I always retain some water so I might be up this coming Monday even if I have lost weight but as I know what to expect I won't get too upset about it.

Still trying to decide if I have the energy to work out today. I think that I have a valid excuse for staying home but if I think I have the energy I might go anyways. I might go back to bed for a bit, maybe I"ll feel better after that.

Take care all, have a good day!

Hi there Jan, sounds like you are off to a good start!

I went to employee health at work and the nurse there said it looked like strep throat to her and she took a throat culture, they'll have the results back tomorrow. I went there because that way she fills out a report that I was there and I took it up to my manager so this way I can't see that she can say I have absenteeism issues if I am genuinely sick.

Anyway I will not be going to the gym today, I just don't have the energy. So far today all I've eaten is some melon, even that hurts to swallow. I've been taking advil and tylenol since last night and my throat is still really sore, feels like I am swallowing glass. I'm so tired of being sick, between having pneumonia twice and now whatever this is, its the most I've been sick in a really long time.

I think I"m going to hit the sack for awhile, I'm feeling really fatigued. Take care.

MistySeptember

WELCOME JAN!!

Jen I really hope you are feeling better. I think you did the right thing going to see teh nurse. My sister's sister in law had pneumonia. SHe's been sick for three months. She's 25 and has had to have fluid drained from her lungs, which put her in ICU for three days, she could hardly move for weeks. She's slowly on the mend now, but it's nothing to mess with. And now that you have ahd it you don't want to fool around with any illness that could lead to having it again. that's really awful about your manager. Here it is my understanding that an employer can only confirm that you worked there, and the dates and possibly the title you had. They can't say anything else as far as I know. Too many peole have held grudges against those who leave a company and give bad reviews based not on work preformance but on the anger they are holding.

Well I am off to soak in the tub. I need abit of something for myself. It seems everytime I put something away today Aj dragged it back out it is a never ending cycle. SO I am going to go realx while they nap :)

Hi all - Can I join you---I watched the show on the 14th and my day one was yesterday. So far so good - How's everyone coping with no bread - Yikes!

I'll come back later to post in more detail.... Ta Ta for now!

Ok - I'm back...
I usually post down in Jaded Ladies - a great group of women...very supportive...but I signed the contract and put it on my fridge yesterday and here I am. Thanks for starting a boot camp thread.

I agree with what has been said about the exercise recommendations. I think on some level they could be a bit too rigorous for some. The best exercise is the one you are going to do consistently. I have a walking regimen that works nicely with boot camp. I am going to fill in with my folding stepper. I do not have a treadmill, nor do I belong to a gym, so as far as getting vigorous, I'll be looking at how difficult it is to speak and whether or not I break a sweat. For me the resistance training is an issue. I love to do weight training, but am struggling with an injured shoulder. I can do lower body resistance, so I'll do that and work on getting this shoulder better.

Food wise, I count WW points, so I am following the food guidelines, but counting points..so that's how I am managing the protein and fat requirements. I am on day two of no bread, sugar or alcohol and my family is still alive, lol! I haven't turned evil ---yet ;)

For right thinking, I am just trying to keep all the ehalthy foods around me and just focusing on my ownership of all the things that led me to this point in my life. I subscribe to a spiritual weight loss newsletter from beliefnet.com - that helps me focus ...
looking forward to getting to know you all

good luck today

well I made it through my exercise- I did 25minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weights. I also did ok with my eatting. I really need to work on getting in all my veggies. Do you think we can have carrots on this plan? I just love baby carrots.

WELCOME KATY!

YEA! On the exercise Bev! I haven't done any yet today. I will tonight when AJ goes to bed. DH took her across the street to Gramma's so I can cook dinner...pesto cicken and roasted veggies. I think carrots are fine, I've eaten them. I think though b/c they are a sugary veggie I'd limit them. And remember be conscious of what you eat, I can easily go into a mindless eating mode munching baby carrots. Nothing is healthy when you binge on it.

I printed out Oprah's pep talk letter from her website today. I have't read it yet, but after I do I am putting it in my binder.

The no bread has been suprisingly easy for me. I thought for sure the bread would be a huge issue. It's the cereal I'm missing. I have been on a ceral eating binge right up until Monday. It's been tricky since AJ eats cereal for breakfast. She has been joining me though in eating what I am having. The alchol, np problem...I feel like I have been pregnant or nursing for two years now lol. So the last time I had any was Christmas 2003 right before we founf out Ben was coming, and before that was June 2002 right before we found out AJ was coming lol.

Well have a great night ladies!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome Misty. I think a Monday weigh-in thread would be great. I wouldn't mind doing my weigh-in then.
I'm still going strong. I'm a vegetarian, so I have deemed that the basically no-carb rule just won't work for me, instead, I'm sticking to "just the brown stuff" - whole grains. Sounds like that's the hardest part for most people!

Thanks for the welcome..
I've been snacking on baby carrots this afternoon - so here's hoping they are ok, lol!

The food guidelines seem similar to the Zone or WW Core, so maybe those plans may give some people some guidance on the food plan for boot camp. I've certainly been eating Zone-like today... I like it because I don't feel so hungry.

Jen

Katy - I'm certain that any kind of veggies are fine, just have to watch what you put on them ie broccoli with cheese sauce would not be the best, just plain steamed broccoli would be perfect

Misty - I know what you mean about employers only giving out info like hiring date etc but I'm kind of transferring around in the same company so I don't suppose the usual rules apply. Also I had put my manager down as a reference, I wouldn't have thought she would have said something like that about me because there are loads of other people that have worse records than me and everytime I have been off it has been because of me being sick and I have provided a dr's note or my son being sick.

Today was a complete and total bust but because I was so sick for most of the day I am cutting myself some slack. Most of the day I haven't been able to eat because it felt like I was trying to swallow glass and so when I was feeling like I could eat something I went for total comfort food and had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a brownie. For dinner I had a bowl of Cheerios. So ít's not like I ate a million calories. I definately did not have the energy to get to the gym and I'm not going to worry about tomorrow until then but I will eat properly.

Take care all, see you tomorrow.

MistySeptember

Good morning! Jen I am sorry you are still so sick. I think perhaps if I were you I would cut myself some slack too. I would find it hard to swallow a lot of what is allowed. I remember the lady in the bikini on Oprah said she wrote a contract with herself, she knew she would fall down but this time she decided to get back up and dust herself off. I'm sure that's what you will do, and it's not like you did it on purpose you're sick.

Jenicra, yeah it's probably not healthy for you to completley avoid the grains, and after the first month brown grains are allowed in moderation. You've got to do what's healthy.

I should check out the zone, do they have recipes and meal plans? I have never read it. I also don't know much about Core, the last time I went to a WW meeting they had just introduced flex. I went with that on my own after Ben was bron. I have the book The Formula and there are many recipes in there that fit this no grains approach.

It's going pretty well for me. I think this is just what I needed to get in gear, I was having such a hard time getting back down to my points. I am back to drinking my water, two or more quarts a day. I have been doing the exercise,w hich is the big challeneg for me, I'm lazy. I actually need to go do today's first workout. I am sooo sore from yesterday I did 60 minutes on the treadmill and 20 minutes of arms. I saw in Good Housekeeping yesterday a little workout band thing. If you go to the website it's only $10 with a promotional thing with GH. I think I am going to reward myself with that if I make it through this week on program.

Well have a great day ladies! I'm off to exercise! Wish me luck we'll see if I can move, even my fingers are sore LOL!

Morning all. I'm feeling a bit better today though my throat is still very sore. It isn't as bad as yesterday but I still probably won't be eating too much. Still trying to decide about the gym, maybe later I might go and just do the cardio. Take care all, have a great day.

Jen ~ I am glad to hear you are feeling better. I agree exercise in moderation and drink tea with honey for your throat.
Misty ~You should reward yourself with the exercise band. I think it is a great idea to reward yourself for reaching mini goals.

Jenicra ~ As a vegetarian it is very important for you to eat your complex protien. Good idea to eat brown grains and no white. What type of vegetarian are you?

Rosie ~ Can you explain more about WW Core? I am very familiar with their points system. I still use points in my food diary.

Well I must confess I have not exercised yet. No more excuses I just have to start. Today when I get home I will exercise with LS WATP 30 min with the weighted balls.

Breakfast:
Very Berry Smoothie
Herbal Tea

Snack:
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup berries

Lunch:
4 oz Broiled Hamburger Patti
Lettuce, Onion & Tomato
1 T Ultra low fat 1000 Island dressing
1 cup 1% Milk
Jello

Snack:
1/2 cup Gardennay Tomato Soup
Grapes
Veggies

Winterstar - Core is basically a food list you can eat off of, no point counting as long as you stick to the list. There's overlap with Oprah's food guidelines, but there's items with splenda and there are some whole grains( good after the first month). No bread. You can eat things off the list but you use up a weekly allotment of 35 points to do so.

Misty - Zone has a website..think it's zoneperfect.com. They have recipes. Again I see the overlap as the focus on lean protein and lots of vegetable and fruit with a minimal amount of grains and starchy food. Som things about the Zone would not work...like it calls for a snack before bedtime, but I think the food choices are similar.

Jen - hope you are feeling better today

Been doing pretty well, tho" I have to confess to snacking on FF popcorn in the afternoon. I think it is probably considered a white food but it's practically all air...and it kept me out of the animal cookies ;)

Have a great day everyone

Jen
02-17-2005, 12:56 PM
Katy - from what I read in one of dr. phil's book, popcorn is considered a whole grain so therefore it is good to eat as long as it is not popped in oil or has too much toppings.

Hi all!

I am doing well today. It's my double workout day. I tried to do the treadmil but mad eit 7 minutes befor ethe kids needed me. SO I tried again abit later and made it 10 minutes. So after lunch I did a 30 min. yogacise video. It was kind of cool. I dind't think it would be so "vigorous", but I really ahd to work hard. So Sicne I had a total of 17 minute son the treadmill and 30 minutes on teh video I am counting that as one of workouts today. Hopefully I can get in the second one this eveing with the treadmill and weights.

What is the scoop on artificial sweeteners? Splenda for example. It's white, highly processed, but 0 cal. I've been having a teaspoon of honey in my tea, but I am out of it. We won't be going shopping anytime soon. Maybe I'll have to dig out the expresso maker b/c I candrink that with just a bit of skim milk or black, not tea, I like that sweet. But it's a small machine and makes the coffee taste kind of burnt so the splenda would be so very nice!

Well I'm off. One quick thing... my neighbors's son is two days older than my daughter and he has a kidney condition. Tomarrow they go in for some major testing and perhaps to consider surgery. His mom is real upset b/c she can't go in with him b/c she is trying to get pregnant and they use radioactive dye. She's had two miscarriages in the last year. If you could please keep this little guy and his family in your prayers that would be so nice.

Winterstar - I'm a vegetarian vegetarian! :) No meat, no poultry, no fish, no eggs.

Misty - I think that if Splenda is something that allows you to feel "normal" while dieting, then you should continue using it. Like you said, it's 0 cals, and, honestly, I think that you could lose weight eating anything you want as long as you only ate so many calories a day.

I ate too much yesterday, but it wasn't anything too bad, so I think I'll still consider it an on-plan day. It's good to mix up the cals. a little to boost the metabolism after all. Today is also smooth sailing, I've just got dinner and weights left. I did a 3.25 mile road run today, with a time of 33:44 - pretty happy with that! I have my first 5k run this Saturday and am aiming for anything under 35 minutes.

MistySeptember

Hello all!

How's it going for everyone? Jen are you feeling better?

Jenicra- I think you are right about the splenda thing. It's better than icecream LOL. Good luck in your 5k!! I can't imgaine running that far lol. Right now I'm proud to make a 15 minute mile or run through an entire comercial break LOL. My family used to run a mile and walk 3.5 EVERYDAY. I feel so out of shape thinking about it. Oh well, I'm getting better.

I did my two workouts today. I counted the hodged podged morning work out as the extra 30 minute one and I did my 30 minutes on the tread mill and 20 minutes of weights. Only two more for the week. I feel alot less sore after stretching in the yoga dvd. I am very much enjoying this food plan. Surprisingly enough! I am getting to cook new, fun stuff. DH litterally would eat Hamburger helper everyday. That's not much of a culinary challenge. I am really enjoying actually cooking. I made tomato basil soup today and tossed in soem spinach, it was pretty good. Aj liked it but only ate a few bites of dinner all together and DH said no way (he might have to ingest a vegetable :p ), so I have plenty in the freezer.

I checked out the zone website briefly, thanks for pointing me there Katy. Looks like some more recipes I can incorporate into this plan. That's what I do with The Formula, I just use the recipes that fit.

Well I guess I should get to bed. DH had a contract job and it ran out, the company he worked for plans to hire him permanent but they are waiting for paperwork to go through. So he's off tomarrow. That means nobody has to get up early. I have to run some errands and get some sewing supplies. I am making a baby sling for a friend of my sister, it's the first one I am selling. I made one for my son and have had alot of interest in them. Perhaps I can supplement our income a bit. maybe not, either way I have fun.

Have a great night all! ~misty

Good morning friends. Misty I am feeling much better thanks. yesterday was okay except that my throat was still pretty sore. Today it is much better but still a tiny bit sore when I swallow. I feeling much less fatigued so I am certain I will hit the gym today, I don't know how it will go when I get there, just have to play it by ear. Definately I am going back on my eating plan today which I meant to do yesterday but I got derailed at lunchtime because I had some crackers at lunchtime with my soup and then of course you know how you feel like you've screwed up so you might as well all out? Ended up having a couple of slices of pizza for dinner. Yikes! Oh well, today will be better. See everyone later, have a great day!

Hi everyone, well I have been doing pretty good with the exercise and eatting. Next week will be the real challenge as I am going away, I will try my best though. I think my sister ( I am going to visit her) is on south beach so I should do ok. I really don't miss have the bread, rice or potato it is the snacky things I miss the most. My weight has not moved all week but I thought with all the exercise it would for sure. I have also been counting my calories and I am only getting in about 1240 so I wonder if I am getting enough calories. Just a thought

ok , I am off the workout.

I forgot to add that I didn't realize this way of eatting is like the ww core. I have the book so I will have to check it out for some different foods or recipes that I have not thought of.

Misty - I am enjoying the food more than I thought I would also. I do get some bread cravings in the afternoon, but yesterday I sliced up a few kiwis and munched on those.. so I will try this again today ( a fruit snack). Maybe the sugar and fiber in the fruits are helping...

Glad you are feeling better Jen- food plans are hard to stick to when you are sick..so just pick yourself up and dust yourself off, kwim?

I walked for 25-30 mins yesterday, but did not get in any resistance. so today I will try to compensate for that...I will try to get in the second workout today.

Need to do some menu planning but the day is shaping like so:

Breakfast
egg substitute omelette with Laughing Cow cheese, turkey bacon, and tomato
fruit( either a banana or a grapefruit)

Lunch
salad
salmon burger ( no bun)

snack
1 c. split pea soup
fruit

Dinner
need to work on this one....might make a black bean and turkey sausage stew...new recipe from Fix-it and Forget it Lightly Cookbook

Have a great day all

Good morning all!

I still haven't gotten my errands done, DH wants me to wait for him. We may or may not end up going out to eat with his family to celebrate several birthdays. His 91 year old granfather especially likes this buffet place, so I think we'll go there. I should be able to have veggies and chicken. Usually when I go there I eat salad and carb landed foods. But I am sure I can manage to avoid the carbs. But I am a bit annoyed b/c I wanted to get this sling in the mail not I can't work on it at all until tomarrow b/c I need stuff from the store, and my lunch consisted of a chicken salad and I need chicken. I improvised breakfast to compensate for what I didn't have.

Oh well!

Have a great day all!

Has been a very bad day. did not get to the gym, made it through breakfast and lunch eating on plan and then this afternoon went insane and ate a bunch of crap. Something very upsetting and depressing happened, not that it is really an excuse, I ought to be able to handle these things better. It is nothing earth shattering, actually kind of silly now but I was upset and depressed at the time. anyway I won't get to the gym now until Monday but I'll get out for walks over the weekend and I will eat on plan so hopefully I'll have a decent weigh in on Monday.

Hey there. Feeling a lot better now. I can't believe that I have totally blown the past 3 days. I ate right off plan though I don't think I really ate huge amount of cals but still pretty bad. Well what's done is done and I can't undo it. Tomorrow definately back to bootcamp!

MistySeptember
02-19-2005, 09:52 AM
Jen- That's right you can't undo it, so you're doing great not wallowing in it. We all have those moments. You can do this, you are a strong person. You deserve to make yourself a priority. Dust yourself off and think of how you can deal with emotions in the future. Perhaps decide when you get upset you will take a walk, scrub the bathroom, go play a silly game with your son. Write it down, have a plan and recognize the situation when it arises and jump into action. It's hard. But you are worth it. I'm glad you are feeling better. I know you will rise up and grab on and continue through the next 11 weeks with success!

Bev-Don't worry about the scale not moving yet. Oprah's site indicated that all teh boot campers lost weight at very different rates and amounts. The one girl lost only 14 pounds compared to Reggie's 30 some, but she lost the most inches of everyone and two dress sizes. You'll get there and when you do it will feel so good for having succeeded!

We finally made it to teh store yesterday at 4 pm! After we found out that dinner out was cancelled. It's annoying lving in the sticks b/c you have to drive so far to get anywhere and so if you have to go out for one thing you might as well wait until you are going out for everything. We still ended up eating out, we chose the buffet place. I did very well I might say. Maybe a bit ehavy on the fat b/c lf dressingw a snot offered, but I stuck to a broth based onion soup, grilled chicken and salad. I gave AJ the fries that come with the chicken. I got a few groceries and some of the stuff I needed for teh sling. The second problem with living in the sticks is small local stores often stock a small supply of items, k-mart only had three colors of thread. None of which will match my fabric and all of which I already have here at home. I have to go to Olean tomarrow to visit my family so I can go to walmart there. I just really wanted to get this in the mail.

I did not exercise yesterday b/c I kept thinking we were about to leave and then we'd delay, so by the time we wenta nd got home it was after 10 pm. Got the kiddos in jammies and off to bed and it was almost 11. So I took a long hot bath with some new bath salts I treated myself too and read about a third of a novel and went to bed (at about 1:30 am). So I have to workout both today and Sunday but only once each b/c I have both my 2 workout days done.

I found two kinds of workout bands from Bally's at k-mart so I am going to get myself one set at 5 pounds, a subscription to Good Housekeeping (to read on the treadmill) at 10 pounds and maybe the second set of bands at 15.

I will be in Olean babysitting my younger siblings Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. UGHHHHH! 4 consecutive days at my parent's house. I have four adopted siblings, all special needs, ages 12 almost 13, just turned 12, almost 11 and 8. Plus my two. Fun! I used to put together day's worth of arts and crafts and games for them, b/c they can get out of hand quickly so if you keep them busy it goes better, but with two babies i just odn't have time for taht any more. Or money. I used to spend just about what my mom pays me to watch them in supplies to entertain them.

Did anyone record the Oprah bootcamp show on 2/14? I had someone message me asking if I had. I did not. I told her I would ask and if anyone did pass her name on and perhaps they could help her with a copy.

Well I have to go figure out what I am having for breakfast. It's slim pickings for produce here. AT least grafruit is in season! I have to make my meal plans for next week so I can shop. I am thinking I may have to do my produce on Sunday and Wednesday b/c I can't keep it long enough. I saw smart ones has some "truth about carbs" meals out. They seemed to consiste of meat and veggies no white stuff. I'll have to chekc them out. Jen I know you are often pressed for time at lunch maybe they would be something you can use? Perhaps I can talk DH into going to Wegman's today or tomarrow they have much better produce, but it's an hour in the opposite direction of anywhere we need to go.

Well talk to you all later!! Have a super great weekend!

Hey there. Thanks Misty for your support. I am a lot better now and yes I need to figure out how to cope with some emotional moments. Generally though I do not eat when I am upset, mostly I overeat when I am bored. It was an unusual day yesterday and I don't expect it to happen again. If it does I think I will be better prepared.

I am doing okay actually for meals. Once to get out of the habit of slapping everything inside of a couple of pieces of bread it is pretty easy. Suppers are easy because I just don't eat whatever big carb I serve to the others ie potatoes or pasta. Lunches I have been having tuna with veggies or some kind of salad. Breakfast has been omlets with veggies and a piece of fruit. Today I am having turkey sausages, sliced tomatoes and a banana. To me it is weird to be having tomotoes at breakfast because I'm not much of a tomato eater particularly at breakfast. I've got to eat something though or I'll turn into a ravenous beast!

I am doing potty training with my son today. Last night was his last pullup and this morning he is in underwear. He's already had one accident, like 10 minutes before I was going to take him up to the potty! He's 3 1/2 and he's ready for this, it's just a pain to have go through cleaning up. I think he'll clue into it pretty quick though. He's been urinating on the potty for awhile now and will wake up dry in the morning. Keep your fingers crossed that he won't have too many more accidents!!!

Hey there all!

I just wanted to say Good Luck with the Potty traing, Jen! AJ is 21 months and LOVES to sit on the potty. She no where near ready for undies, and pull ups give her a rash, so it's been tricky. Getting her to holdttsill to put a diaper back on the the bathroom is a pain! We're just going at it as she wants to. She's still young. I think your son will do GREAT!

I am really hungry and having a hard time today. I've done well, but it's all I can do not to go chow down. It's 3 pm. I can do this! I will work on my meal plans and exercise and soon it will be dinner time! Then Bed, and I will have made it.

Well talk to you all later.

Hey guys! Food was awfully bad yesterday - probably due to the fact that I was so nervous about today's run! But it went awesome, I wanted to finish in under 35 minutes, and finished in 29 minutes flat! Place 174th out of 280! I don't think I'll have a problem staying on plan today after such an awesome motivator like that!

I still nee dto drink soem more water today and get in my 50 minute workout. I am hoping I can get dinner squeezed in here. I set my cut off time to 8 pm, b/c we often can't eat until later b/c when DH gets home from work her helps his dad in the barn. I'm on my own for dinner tonight since he is out fixing the barn cleaner and AJ is visiting gramma. But I forgot to buy Ben cereal ad so had to run to teh store. OS I am hoping i can get dinner done before 8, it has to sit 20 minutes in the firdge, I'm giving it 10.

Sadly I had a very, very, very bad day. I won't go into details though because I don't really need to relive it. :(

Potty training has been equally bad. My ds had several accidents, didn't want to sit on the potty when I wanted him to and the second to last accident he had he was just standing there talking to me and suddenly there was a puddle on the floor. I really don't think he has any clue when he has to go so putting him in underwear is a waste of time. Back to pullups for now.

Tomorrow has got to be a better day.

Congrats Jenicra on your run, you must feel great!

Hey there,

I managed to get my dinner in and my workout in. I feel good about it even though I really want to munch on something totally unhealthy.

Jen, you have alot on your plate right now. It will all work out. I worked in a daycare and we had kids who just one day it all clicked, they ahd been working at it for almost a year or sometiems even two and one day the lightbulb went off. Keep you chin up.

Blissful, That's what I am doing. Although I have heard soem great reviews about the new book, I just don't want to buy into any more. I going to focus on the rules and pull my ownself through this. I am doing pretty good on water. I fill a two quart pitcher and put it in the fridge and I drink it everyday. Seeing it premeasured has really helped me. Also to get my veggies up I have been adding fresh chopped spinach to homemade vegitable based soups and adding it to eggs, I even had it in place of rice with stirfry tonight. Can't say that last one was my favorite, but it wasn't horrid either.

Well I should get off to bed. I'm beat! I have to visit family tomarrow, I already know my uncle is bringing pasta salad of some sort, so that's out. My mom was thinking of making some new pork tenderloin dish and broccoli, so I should be ok there. I'll pack at least a snack just in case I can't eat the food. I don't want to waste my "cheating" days on pasta salad with my birthday and Easter coming up.

Have a great night all. ~misty

Hey there ladies,

Its me emccoy back again after two failures at these challenges. :?: But once again I am determined to lose weight. I did see oprah's boot camp episode and I was inspired. But I decided to hold off a week so that I could get in all the carbs I could stand (just kidding :D ) But no really I am ready this time, I have got to do this. My mother had us all worried last week because she was admitted to the hospital with chest pain and she is only 45 years old. Everything turned out to be alright though but she really needs to stop smoking and get more exercise. I really took that serious because in a few years that can be me.

Misty and Jen it's great to see you all back. And welcome to all the newbies. This morning I sat and read through all of the posts and I wish you all good luck. I have printed out my contract but have not signed it yet but i plan to do that this morning.

Well this morning on 2/20/2005
I am weighing in at Oprah's boot camp at 215 pounds

I was hoping to be AT my mom's by now but DH is dinking around. Oh well gives me time to post :)

WELCOME BACK Miss Mccoy! Don't worry about the alst two challenges I failed them as well. But I promise myself this time I will succeed. I decided not to have a weight goal b/c if I miss it by a pound or two like at Christmas I will be devastated. I'm just committing to following the rules for 12 weeks. So, welcome back, it's great to have you here!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning all. I got Bob Greene's book from the library yesterday but haven't looked at it much yet. The book seems to focus a lot on exercise. The 5 simple eating rules in his book are: 1)have an eating cutoff time 2)eat a nourishing breakfast 3)drink a minimum of six 8-ounze glasses of water every day 4)eliminate alcohol 5)make eating a conscious act. I'm going to read the book but just from a quick flip through it doesn't look like a book I would buy ($25US, $36CDN). I'm sure most of us know lots about nutrition and exercise, we just have a hard time applying what we know. :) I'll pass on any great info I happen to come across.

A good morning so far today and I'm planning on keeping myself busy so that I don't wallow around and get into the nasty refined carbs. Take care all.

Can I still join? I taped the show on Monday and just now got around to viewing it today, so I'm late by a week. Went to the doctor Friday, got his blessing, and I want to be on my way! Woo hoo! :D

Right now I'm on three medications: one for hypertension and two for high cholesterol. I'm excited to see how those values have changed after I complete the 12 weeks, and maybe I can get off the meds!

Good luck to everyone!

Week one is almost done!

I have done a good job on food this week, I think. I did try to eliminate bread, but ended up eating some cornbread and some homemade whole wheat bread. Still haven't had any refined carbs and definitely no junk food.

Haven't been able to swing the double workout days... maybe next week. I have done cardio everyday and resistance most days...

Welcome Isabeau- hi to all fellow boot campers :)

Welcome Juliana! We are always happy to see new people, this has been a really great group.

I had a good day foodwise, definately an improvement over the past 4 days! I didn't exercise today but I am for sure back to the gym tomorrow.

Kind of scared to weigh in tomorrow, I think I will be up because TOM is right around the bend plus I had poor eating for those 4 days. Oh well, the next Monday will be much, much better. See everyone tomorrow!

WELCOME ISABEAU! Certianly you may join us! You mentioned that you taped the show, a lady who's user name is Sandy71 is really looking for one, she missed it and would really like to see it. She aske dme to pass her name onto anyone who might have a copy. Perhaps you could private message her if you are interested in sending it to her.

Katy, great job on the exercise! Even if you didn't make the double days you are doing GREAT!

Jen, don't worry about tomarrow. You'll do great, weh ave 11 more weeks to go.

I am going to go start week two's thread. It's far less cumbersome in my opinion to have a thread for each week. I will be listing everyone's name who has sai dthey committed and as the weights come in I will add them to the first post of teh week and keep a running total. If that's ok with everyone? See you on the next thread!

no one has posted since the 20th???? I am so guilty of not staying on the wagon, sticking to the program, whatever you want to call it, I am disapointed in myself, but with start again.......that's all I can do!
