Ellen 01-24-2005, 07:48 AM Good Morning! It's a new week, and a new chance to succeed! SO, here are the week's challenges:
1. EXERCISE! Get in at least three days of exercise and post it on the exercise board! (Kudos to all of you who succeeded last week! The exercise board looked great last week! )
2. Get at least 5 Xs or Os on your calendar! (you get one for each day with NO cheats...you gotta be 100% on program. Use X or O...whichever appeals to you! :D )
3. Water! Water! Water! Dehydration hinders weight loss...so drink up, my friends!
Ellen 01-24-2005, 07:57 AM Monet slept like a log last night! :) I got in bed about 11, and did not know the world existed until 5:50 this morning! I feel great, mentally anyway. Physically, I feel achy and sore all over. I will blame it on a new supplement I am taking that is supposed to be really good for detoxing the body, and the flu like symptoms are a sign its working.
Today, I plan to tackle the kitchen. It's really cluttered and messy. I feel like I am standing on the brink of the rest of my life..it's time to put recovery behind me, and move on. Getting the house in order is going to be a big part of that. I guess I need to play like I am moving, so I will toss out all the crap we have accumulated in the ten years we have lived in this house. We are unfortunately, a family of packrats. So, today, I will clean the external areas of the kitchen, and if I have time, start on the cabinets and drawers. Ya'all keep me accountable on that, ok?
Time for me to go put on a pot of coffee...its going to be difficult without cold water in the kitchen. Hopefully, my poor beleaguered husband will be able to finish the fixing the broken pipe today. He made a dead end cap on it yesterday so that we could turn on the water. Thus we have water everywhere, but not cold to the kitchen sink. At least I could run the dishwasher! :^:
I'll be back....
Solly 01-24-2005, 09:53 AM Good Monday Morning Ladies.
Hope everyone had a great OP weekend. It sure is miserably cold and windy here. But after seeing all the snow storms in the east, I'm not complianing, well not too much anyway.
My eating was great this weekend. My only discretion was 2 margaritas Friday night. I also got some TM time in on Sat & Sun. So that made 5 days last week. Want to shoot for the same this week. The scale is moving down so I am happy witht he world today.
Haven't read last weeks boards yet so nothing to post individually. My boss worked all weekend so my desk is covered this morning so I had better get busy. Be back later.
techwife 01-24-2005, 11:46 AM Hi Monet
Hi Jack
Well, I had a mostly OP weekend. Only true discretions were Friday night when my daugter had a sleepover and my hubby sent me to the liquor store for a little 'something' since the 'private time' police was out of the house. Since I rearranged her bedroom, the accoustics of our room and her room are such that she can hear us merely kissing and gets up and shuts her door. Talk about killing the mood. If we have more than kissing in mind, we shut our door...but its amazing how she can hear the slightest smooching at night, but can't hear me yelling 'RISE AND SHINE' in the morning. Selective hearing, I guess. I know alcohol by itself isn't off plan, but I imagine the kamakazi and sex on the beach shooters I got is definitely illegal.
Anyhow...we had quite a snowy weekend!! I love blizzards...as long as my family is tucked away safe at home. Otherwise, I would freak out.
Good news/ bad news is that my hubby is out of town this week in Vermont. Bad news because I hate when he's gone...but good news for my diet because he won't be around to 'tempt' me with things like french fries. I'm used to it, though...I just lapse back into single mom mode and do things we don't normally do when dad's around...like watch girly movies and Trading Spaces and I can watch Hannity on FOX instead of James Bond movies and MXC.
Well, back to house cleaning!! Talk to yous guys later on!! Time for the Air Dyne!! :( I hate the bike...I wish I had a stepper instead.
Kris
Fillise 01-24-2005, 12:26 PM Morning all!
It's chilly here this am--Brrrrr! I'm ready for some warmer weather. Course, I guess I've got it good here compated to the folks that are buried under 2-3 feet of snow!
I seriously crashed yesterday--stayed in bed until noon, moved to the sofa and then back to bed. It was wonderful. The ride home Saturday was stressful because of the weather, so the sleep was much needed. But I didn't get my pictures developed--I'll try to do it today!
I hope everyone is keeping warm and keeping OP!
Yesterday all I ate was a bowl of popcorn and 3 cups of green tea. Not OP at all, but it was all I could rouse myself to do.
Tach--Your DH KNOWS better than to temp you with that stuff!! Glad you got some "private" time this weekend :o .
Jackie--Are y'all snowed under there? WTG for the TM time--those margs are just too good aren't they?
Monet--My kitched sink is backed up and I am waiting for the roter rooter man to show. Thanks for the surprise--I'll have it for lunch today!!!! Good luck with the cleaning/organizing!
Time to get back to work. Have a great OP day everyone!
Susan
Ellen 01-24-2005, 12:47 PM I have been a good girl so far today. I felt rather frustrated early this morning when I hopped on the metal monster, and found I had gained 8 pounds since last Wednesday! I am sure it is mostly water weight, but still, it was not a happy sight. I am finding that staying on program merely maintains, and if I go off the slightest bit, I gain. SO, I am going to try something different. Bill Phillips says, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results." I don't want to be insane, doing the same thing over and over, and feeling frustrated. So I am going to go to Curves every morning now, after I drop James off at work. Even if I only do one circuit, that is still 15 minutes of strength training and movement that should help get the old metabolism going.
I am also going to try and get my menu posted daily, so I am held accountable. Comments and critiques are welcome!
JACK: I saw your post on the exercise board! You are doing awesome and I find you inspiring. Thanks so much! How unkind of your boss to work all weekend and leave you a ton of stuff to do! :)
TECH: I can relate to the kid hearing problem. My daughter's room is across the hall, and we get all kinds of comments from her. (she is 18...) Her brother's room is just below ours, and boy does THAT get embarrassing! (he is 26, and VERY off color...) I have had the SOTB but not a Kamakazi...what is in it?
FILLISE: Took a Mono day, did you? You probably needed it! Let me know how you like the ramen. I can get you more if you like them. Of course, I think its time for you to make an Atlanta run. I came to Auburn last!
Ok, that is it for me! I got the kitchen table worked on, and threw out a bunch of old ad mail, and credit card offers. I still have a lot to do, but I think its about time for lunch, according to my stomach! (its growling at me)
 Later!
techwife 01-24-2005, 01:11 PM Okay, I'm gonna try this rainbow post like Monet does...
MONET...I'm not sure what's in the kamakazies. I'm sure I used to know when I was in my 'cool years', but all I know about it now is that its green.
Fillise - Glad you're recovering from your busy week right and proper. I'm not a big fan of green tea...I can never get passed the green part...looks like seaweed broth or something. I know I should get accustomed to it because it has many good qualities to it.
Haven't rode the evil bike yet. Will probably wait till after lunch now. Did I mention I hate the bike?
By the way...anyone heard from Sebray lately?
Kris
woodfrogs 01-24-2005, 02:03 PM Good Monday morning! We had about a foot of snow Saturday. Got the front done yesterday, DH got out the snowblower for the driveway and I did the front steps and stoop. Now I need to work on the back deck, hopefully later today. The poor birds need to have their feeders filled.
I did some serious crocheting on Saturday. I'm getting ready for the Nov/Dec craft fair season. Made 5 of the cutest baby hats! Blue/green, but different variations. Also worked on a beaded bag, and a bean bag frog(but they aren't done yet). I need to stop at the craft store for more supplies.
Sunday we took the kids back to college. They were ready to go, and I was ready for them to go. They were eating me out of house and home! The roads were interesting in spots, but not bad overall. The best part about the kids going back to school is not having my ex-dh sitting at in my kitchen on friday nights while he visits with the kids for 2 hours or more!
Stayed pretty much OP all weekend, only small deviations. And I made SF choc pudding last night, so that should help too.
Back to the old grind!

THE BIG ORANGE BABE 01-24-2005, 02:14 PM AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!
Getting ready to go to the DOC for the "FINAL WORD" so everyone keep their fingers crossed! I'm so ready to go back to work!
I also have to go to the EYE DOC at 3:30, so my afternoon is full...
ADMINISTRATIVE DECESION...I'm not going to Debbie's on the 4th. I thought about this very carefully, and it's just not worth my time. My Nephew wants to go after work on the 4th which means that I wouldn't get to Debbies until around 9 or 10 p.m. and then his game is in BOCA RATON at 12:00 on Saturday...I would no sooner get up than I would have to leave to get up there to pick him up. I don't feel the time with Debbie and Eli would be quality. I emailed her this morning and told her that once I got back to work and could save some time off, then I could take a Friday off and have the whole weekend. She wasn't happy, but I think she understands.
I'm off to get ready...I'll let y'all know what the DOC says...
BOB
techwife 01-24-2005, 02:44 PM Quickie menu check:
BF:
2 scrambled eggs with shredded cheddar cheese -
2 slices of 7-grain bread toast with butter and sugar free strawberry preserves -
4 giant strawberries -
coffee with HALF N HALF :coffee:
LUNCH: Turkey sandwich on 7 grain bread (the loaf is small, so these slices are small) with swiss lorraine, mayo and green pepper slices -
a whole lot of grapes - probably 40-50 or so
20 oz water
SNACK - apple and some cheddar cheese or maybe cottage cheese -
20 oz water
DINNER: Broiled tilapia filet -
steamed green beans -
sweet potatoes -
glass skim milk
HIYA BOB!! Everything's crossed for your doctor's visit!! :crossed:
BARBARA!! Sorry I missed you...sounds like you were down there in the good stuff. We're way north...like by Canada...we only got about 4-5 inches at best - but the wind was blowing it into drifts pretty high. I just really love blizzards. As long as I'm watching it from the coziness of my living room window, that is. Where do your kids go to college?
See yas later!! I'm reading a great book that's coming out on the big screen in March - Sahara. Well, it start my Matthew McConaughey, so it's a given that I'll be there, but I like to read the books to movies before seeing them. This is a different pace for me, as well, because I usually only read romance novels or Shelley's kids books like Harry Potter and Nancy Drew. Really cool book!! Okay, I'm really off now...I hear the washer in the spin cycle.
heartmom 01-24-2005, 02:47 PM Well, yesterday just sucked. Hubby and I had 2 big fights and I ended up taking my frustrations out on food! I was a real oinker! UGH! It's back to the drawing board today, though. I already made my menu for today thru Thursday out and I have every intention and then some to stick to it. I was at 160 but now I don't know. I wanted to be at 159 by WIW, but after yesterday's eating, that is highly unlikely. Think I will be glad if I see 160 on Wednesday. At least hubby and I are doing better today. I got my workout in for the day as well.
Monet- Ya know, I could see if I was bingeing and gaining alot of weight. But most of the time you are OP. So I know that has to be sooo frustrating for you. How many times a week do you currently workout? Doing 3, just isn't enough to speed along the weight loss. I recommend doing 5 a week. How much water do you drink daily? Also, 64 oz is really not enough. Those guidelines were set back in the 1960's. You should aim at a gallon a day. This will seem like alot at first until you get used to it and then you will see that you crave it. I've heard that nuts speed the metabolism as well. Especially walnuts, besides they are good for your heart. I'll search and see if I can find any foods that might aid the metabolism. I've always eaten more than most people I know, even when I'm trying to lose weight and completely on plan. My friends even comment on how much I eat and how can I lose/have lost weight that way, lol. I really believe that the exercise and extra water I drink allow for that.
Alright, here's my menu for the day:
BF- had a 3 egg omelette made with mushrooms, light swiss, onions, a 1/2 teaspoon of Smart Balance light butter(plus some SB cooking spray) and a cup of CC 2% milk
Snack- made an Atkins drink(found a canister at Big Lots for 3 bucks)
Lunch-(getting ready to make now)- BIG tuna salad with lettuce, red onion, cuke, tomato, pepper rings, brocolli, cheese, 1 egg, Ranch dressing
Supper- 2 b&s breasts(grilled and made with Italian dressing), fresh green beans, and cauliflower casserole(cauliflower, cream cheese, cheddar cheese, green onions, bacon)
Alright, I'm getting hungry after listing all that food! LOL. Anyone hear from Julia? Well, that's it for me. Have a good, SBering day!
Solly 01-24-2005, 03:44 PM Just checking in to see what is going on.
I can't beleive I went off t his morning and didn't take any of my meds. Now I won't be able to take my water pills and the scale will be up tomorrow. Plus I am getting stiff.
Menu today:
BF: 1/2 ww bagle with peanut butter
1/2 c strawberries
Lunch: small salad and some pepperonis, apple.
Dinner: roast, mushrooms, carrots, mixed veggies.
I have a new salad and dressing recipe. I need to get it typed up and posted.
Anyone watching 24? I think it is an awesome show.
Got to run.
Solly 01-24-2005, 04:09 PM Oops!..
forgot to paste my repllies in. .Chemo-brain!
Monet, OK I'm up for this week's challenges. Glad to see you are off to Curves and will be joining us on the exercise board. Glad you are moving on and what a way to start. How's the kitchen coming?
Kris, alcohol is my downfall too. I try to make smart choices line wine or vodka and juice.
Susan, driving in bad weathr can really wear you out. Glad you had a good time and are all rested now. No snow here thank goodness. It went around us.
Woodfrogs, all that crocheting keeps your hands busy and no time to eat. I have been making fleece throws and it really keeps my from eating. I'm glad to get DD off to school too. Al lthat going out at midnight and coming home at 4:00 wears me out with worry.
Bob, sorry your trip to see Deb was cancelled. Keeping my fingers crossed for good news.
Heart, glad you found the source of your rash and that it is clearing up. It really does help to plan your meals for the week. I have mine all planned out and my clothes for the week too. Makes me happy.
Country, where are you?
Ellen 01-24-2005, 05:30 PM Good afternoon! I have been running around and trying to get some stuff done. The first thing I did this morning was re-sign-up for Flylady. I need the reminders to keep on task. SO, I did the drill...got dressed, made the bed, and shined the sink! I also cleaned off the kitchen table some. I still have a lot of mail that needs attention, but its dwindling down some.
Laura and I ran over to Harry's/Whole Foods and got salt and broccoli, then to Publix where we found a few items on sale and got a few things we were out of. She and James both love Life cereal and it was buy one get one free, so I got two of plain and two of cinnamon, and two boxes (bogof) of Oatmeal Squares too. Too bad none of those are legal! :( I love em all!
Breakfast was 2 eggs, and a ww English Muffin, coffee with half and half.
Lunch: Veggie chips, brown rice crackers, Wensleydale cheese
Dinner will be a beef and broccoli stir fry with black bean sauce.
I may throw in a snack of a protein smoothie.
JACK: The kitchen is progressing slowly, but its better! Flylady emails will help, as long as I DO them! Right now, I am following their advice for not getting overwhelmed and taking baby steps... Did you see I posted on the exercise thread already? I am going to try and keep up with you this week! :D
HEART: Thanks for the tips! I do drink a lot more than 64oz of water. I think the exercise will help, though it will still be slow going. Since the surgery, I have not been working out regularly, and sometimes only getting in a good walk two times a week. I am planning on going to Curves five mornings a week. I will try and walk on the weekends, and in the evenings some too. I have hypothyroidism (slow) AND hyperinsulinemia. I am what Atkins calls a true metabolically resistant to weight loss. If I had been smart, like you, and gotten my weight off when I was younger, I would not have the trouble I have now. It was hard to lose even twenty years ago, when I was 30, but I would give up and not persist. I figure if I eat healthy foods, and exercise a LOT, even if I don't lose weight, I will feel better, and be healthy. If you find anything about foods to help the metabolism, I am game. I eat nuts some. I wonder which ones are the best to eat. I am contemplating going to a naturopathic doctor a friend of mine uses. The medical community doesn't seem to have a clue on how to help me...maybe they will.
WOOD: I snickered about you being ready for the kids to go back to college! Those young guys can eat a lot! Mine was over 6 feet and shaving every day in seventh grade...man could he eat! Now he has slowed down considerably. Thankfully! I could not afford for him to live at home and eat the way he did when he was 12-18!
TECH: Does the green taste like lime, or mint?? I rarely drink, so I have not heard of them. I used to like Grasshoppers..but they seem to be out of fashion. I never was one for mixed drinks...I do like Port wine...Fonseca Bin 27 is my fav...
BOB: I hope the knee has healed sufficiently for you to go back to work! I am waiting to hear what they said..... Sorry you are not going to be able to go to Deb's. I know she was looking forward to seeing you. Looks like I will be in Sarasota in early March. You BETTER be there! :)
FILLISE: Inquiring minds want to know...did you have them for lunch? What did you think?
Ok, I need to get off here and go get started on dinner. Brown rice takes for freaking ever to cook, ya know! :) Be back later! Keep your fingers crossed, and say a little prayer that Tom can fix the cold water in the kitchen tonight without any problems! Thanks!
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 01-24-2005, 06:06 PM HI HO...HI HO....IT'S BACK TO WORK I GO!!!!
WEDNESDAY IS THE MAGIC DAY!!!!
Thank GAWD...I've had enough of home....I just don't know how women do it that don't work!
I still have to wear my brace for another month, but that's a small price to pay...
Went to the EYE DOC, had my exam, picked out my frames, got a really nice surprise...they were only $143.00!!!! Besides my car, my Brother gave me $200 for Christmas...I have been saving to put that toward the glasses....and I've got $60 left!!!
Now I have to deal with the insurance company for the garage where I fell.
I'm going to ask for all my wages that I had to use from my "long term bank"
, the price of the glasses that I broke when I fell etc. I don't want to sue them, that's not me, but I do expect to be reimbursed for my pain and suffering...
Ive got to go fix some supper....probably leftovers...meatloaf and the trimmings....YUM!!!
BOB
Ellen 01-24-2005, 06:41 PM BOB: Yay! :cheer: I am so glad you got good news! (though why you would want to go back to work is beyond me! I find so MUCH to DO around here, and I can never do everything I want to, as I just don't have the time! :) )
Teensybean 01-24-2005, 07:55 PM Afternoon ladies.....
It has been a beautiful day here today. Foggy this morning, but burned off and the sun is shining!! I can't believe that we are having temps in the high 40's in January. This is usually our coldest time of winter.
Went back to the vet to get Buddy more pain meds. I started letting him out his doggie door yesterday, but he seems to be limping more, so I think he will be better off going out front with me and being on his leash for a bit longer. I don't want to do anything to jeopardize his healing. Or I will only let him out supervised, and not let him go in and out at will.
Here is my menu for today. I need lots of advice ladies.....the scale is not budging. I have been totally on plan since Dec 31. Lost 4 pounds, but it keeps showing up now and again......so not sure if it is really gone.....
B--
3.4 oz vension sausage, 1/2 c oatmeal made with water, 3.5 oz blackberries, 1 Splenda, Lite 85 yogurt.
snack--apple
L--
5 hot wings, salad with bleu cheese, sf jello
snack-- orange
D--
Ham hocks with cabbage and carrots, 1 slice WW bread.
1/2 c sf jello
Monet-- Nice to hear that you finally got a good nights sleep. I have been on plan all month and other than the first 4 pounds (that keep bouncing around) haven't lost anything......I too feel like I exercise like crazy, and eat on plan just to maintain. What is it going to take to get this weight off??
Jackie-- Woo Hoo, look at all that exercise you got in!! WTG.
Tech-- I really enjoy when my dh is gone over night. Just one or two nights though. After that I really miss him, but I like the me time for one night. Just me and the dogs. No dinner to fix, no one to have to look after.......just ME!!
Fillise-- Glad that you got rested up. I had a pretty lazy day yesterday too. Got up, made it to the couch, and dosed off again.......felt good when I finally got up for the day though.. Anxious to see your pictures.
Wood-- Man, some places really got dumped on didn't they?? Glad you only got a foot, lol. Ours is all melting.......and it is sunny and muddy as all get out.
BOB-- Yippeee!!! You get to go back to work!! I am sure Deb is disappointed, but will understand. You will just have a much better visit next time!!
Laurie-- I am glad that you find that you can keep losing. I am staying on plan and really struggling......the weight is just staying. I exercise alot, and haven't been cheating at all. But also have the menapausal factor going right now too. It is very frustrating.
That's it for me.....see you all later.
techwife 01-24-2005, 08:15 PM Couple of quick replies:
Hurray for BOB!! And I'd like to know how you came across such a fantabulous brother. Gee Whiz!!
Laurie - I feel your pain. I hate when me and my hubby have squabbles. And I'm a stress eater as well. But with all your water drinking and exercising, I'm sure your side-tracking on the diet won't have an ill effect for your WIW. In fact, I remember one day I went off plan and lost two pounds!! I know it was just a fluke, but hey, two pounds is two pounds!!
And, just for the record...I don't have a drinking problem... But once in a while I do like a bottle of Arbor Mist or something. I'm more a specialty drink kind of person...like strawberry daquiries and pina coladas...that type of thing. The kamakazies I think are melon flavored. I think they're also called melon balls. Very yummy.
I did no exercise today. I put off the air dyne in favor of walking to school to pick up Shelley, but then the wind picked up and I decided against it. It was snowing and the temp was only in the teens and with the wind... Then it was time to get Shelley and then I decided to eat dinner right after school so I wouldn't be eating at 7pm and tempted to get pizza and now I'm home and I'm fighting with Shelley to get her homework done and now I just don't wanna. :stress: Will do better tomorrow.
Ellen 01-24-2005, 09:21 PM TEENSY: Looking over your menu, it seems like you have a lot of potentially high sodium foods. Maybe try watching the salt intake for a few days, and up your water? I am with you on the frustration...I still have my ovaries, and they ARE working, as I can tell when I have PMS, but the menopausal stuff is adding to no weight loss and it just doesn't seem fair! Here is a big cyber hug: <<Teensy>>. Hang in there...it may take time, but eventually, it will come off.
TECH: Melon, huh? Not sure if that sounds good to me! I love wine coolers that are flavored, and fruit flavored liqueors. Peach and apricot being my top favs! I just can't drink very much due to meds I have to take. :( If I lived up there where its so bitter cold, I would definitely be drinking a LOT more! I wasn't thinking you had a problem, but now that you mention it..... :s:
Cindylcing 01-24-2005, 09:37 PM Hi all...
I guess I'll post meals too :) . Im gonna weigh tomorrow and see if anythings happened yet.
breakfast- 1 cup kashi cereal, 2 sausage patties, 1 cup cantaloupe chuncks
s- 1/2 cup lowfat cottage cheese with 1/2 tangerine
s- 1 oz pumpkin seeds
lunch- turkey sandwich on ww lc bread with onion and lowfat chedder cheese.
s- 6 radishs
s- 4 triscuits
dinner- chicken quesidilla on lc tortilla, romaine/spinach salad with light ranch.
Im so hoping to see some progress but If not I'll keep at it. I really want to give switching to SB a chance to work.
If you see anything in my menus that might need tweaking feel free to let me know .
Working OT again this week so dont have alot of time to post.
Have a great evening !
GatorGal 01-24-2005, 10:38 PM Well, I've been really busy and hardly have had time to scan the board.
BOB--Yea for you. Glad you can go back to work.
Teensy--Just stick to it girl. At least right now you are staying healthy. It just comes off a little slower at the end.
It is cold here and so I have not walked today. Yesterday I got in about 8000 steps. Tomorrow I go to French out at the university, so will get some steps in. If it is cold, that is the only walking I will do. I'm definitely a wuss. I don't like cold weather at all. All the pretty flowers in my butterfly garden are now dead because of last night's freeze. When spring comes I'll have to cut everything back so that they will grow back nicely.
Eating today:
B. cheerioes with 1/4 banana and 1/2 peach and sk. milk
Lunch--a slice of hame and about 1/2 cup navy beans.
Snack--one nectarine
Dinner--pita with hummus, caesar salad very light dressing, eggplant rolled around some cottage cheese type stuff baked over ratatouille. (a restaurant meal)
The board is lookin' good this week.
Welcome back to the south, Susan.
Teensybean 01-25-2005, 03:25 AM Thanks Monet and Gator. I know that the ham and cabbage mixture is salty.....I could feel it in my fingers this morning when I woke up. Didn't add any salt to that at all......for other foods I am using Morton's Lite salt, which is 1/2 potassium. I will try and cut down more on that too. Water is at 128 oz per day, so I think I am okay there. Thanks gals.....this is why this board is so great!!
Solly 01-25-2005, 09:47 AM Good Morning Ladies.
I was dragging this morning. Didn't want to get out of that warm bed.
Got in an extra 1/4 of a mile on the TM last night. Had to do it in 2 trips as dinner was ready after my first mile and then went back and got another 1/2 mile plus 26 minutes of wt training. Other than that, that was my night. With a quick soak in the hot tub to ease these stiff muscles.
My menu today:
BF 1/2 c oatmeal with skim milk
snack: strawberries
lunch, Leftover roast on ww bread, 2 pickles, orange
Dinner: chicken cordon bleu (homemade) and mixed veggies.
Monet, yes I saw you on the exercise board. WTG. I love Fly Lady but the emails were to overwhelming. I do agree with her philosophy of putting on your tennis shoes first thing. I do feel so much more energetic when I do.
Bob, I'm glad you are getting to go back to work. I don't know how people stay home either especially w/o kids. Good deal on the glasses. I got some last week and ended up only paying $100.00. I chose a pair in the "box" which the insurance co provided and only had to pay the co-pays plus a little more. Bad thing I have to wait about 10 days for them to come in. I think the garage should reimburse you for wages. UK plays the Vols tonight. I know you are not a BB fan. UL beat them badly on Saturday, hope we can follow in the same footsteps.
Teensy, you menu looks good to me. Lots of fruits and veggies. Who knows why this wt will drop sometimes and soemtimes not. Maybe you will get a nice big loss all of a sudden.
Tech, I'm with you on the foo-foo drinks. But of course they are loaded with sugar. I am the dacquiri queen. Every Friday used to be D&D night. Dallas (show on TV long ago) and a pitcher of dacquiris. No wonder I have a wt problem. Get on the bike today.
Cindy, the only thing I see is you need to add some veggies. It looked like you had 4 starchy carbs unless. You might want to keep it under 3. Check the calories on the tortilla. If more than 80, it counts as 2 carbs.
Gator, have a great day at the university today.
will check back later. Have a great day.
Ellen 01-25-2005, 11:47 AM Morning! I did not get on here first thing as I normally do! I was off making the bed, getting dressed and shining my sink.
This will be a quick fly by. I took James to work and came back to get Laura to go to Curves with me, and she backed out. Now I am having trouble getting out the door. I plan to leave as soon as this is done. I had to visit the potty, and read in there for a while, drink another cup of coffee, potty again, etc. I am sure you all know how to procrastinate, so I won't bore you with the details.
I have made more progress on the kitchen...the table is shaping up nicely. I still have tons of mail to go through. I get more junk mail than anyone I know! I bought mail slots at Office Max, and I need to find a phillips head screw driver to put them up under the phone. THAT will help! I can put all Tom's mail in one, and other mail in the other. The third one I put on James' door downstairs, so I can put his mail in it. Organize! Organize! I am GOING to get this done! Later, my friends!
techwife 01-25-2005, 12:08 PM Good morning, everyone!!
BF today was:
2 poached egge
2 slices of 7-grain toast
tbsp Smart Balance spread
grapes
1/2 orange
coffee galore with half n half and splenda :D
LUNCH will be...
Turkey sandwich on 2 slices of 7-grain bread
mayo
green pepper slices
swiss lorraine
1/2 orange
20 oz bottle of water
yup...basically the same as yesterday...i'd like variety, but I have to eat what I have or it'll spoil!!
Snack: Kiwi and cheese
20 oz bottle of water
DINNER will be...
WW pasta with ragu sause
steamed broccoli
green salad with lots of veggies and chick peas and olives
skim milk
SNACK: cup of tea - don't like to eat too much before bed. Will also work in a third 20 oz bottle of water to bring the total up to 60 oz. I know, I should be drinking more, but this is a start...I get aggrevated peeing every 20 mins, besides!!
Regarding Grains: I think I'm eating too much in the grains department. But I'm such an unhappy camper if I don't get to spend some time in the throne room at least every other day and I'm really thinking its counter productive to loosing weight if everything I'm eating is staying on board. Your thoughts, guys? "------" subject, I know... :o
Will work in replies later. I'm doing the cleaning I procrastinated myself out of yesterday. :dizzy:
Kris
Solly 01-25-2005, 01:25 PM Techwife,
according to today's menu you have 4 pcs of bread and pasta. that is 5 carbs unless the bread is 35 calories each pc. Plus the pasta is 1/2 c (which is not much). So you may be eating too many carbs. The book says 3 daily. Just my opinion.
woodfrogs 01-25-2005, 02:16 PM Hi everyone!
I've decided that college students today just can't write! I was reading over a document that I've inherited from a temp, and what a mess, miss spelled words, poor sentence construction, etc. Good thing the boss didn't see it, although I'm going to tell him his golden girl isn't...
Anyway, I managed to get on the TM yesterday for 30 mins. And I'm also hitting the gym for my strength training today after work.
Last night made onion soup, it came out pretty good, but next time I'll grill a chicken breast too. The soup wasn't as filling as I'd hoped. I also has some sf choc pudding.
today:
bacon, egg, cheese on sm bagel
carrots/celery sticks
orange
4oz carb control yogurt
probably an apple later
and not sure about dinner yet....
techwife - I don't mind the snow. As long as I can keep myself occupied - it's all good. My kids go to Mt St Mary College in Newburgh, close enough to be easy, far enough away that they're on their own.
Jack-K - I've always thought that crafters should have an easier time losing weight because our hands are always busy, but it just doesn't seem to be so.
Bob - Such good news about going back to work! I always say that I have more than enough going on that if I didn't need the $$, I'd skip it altogether.
Have a great OP day everyone!

Ellen 01-25-2005, 02:20 PM Hey, everyone! I need to leave here in a few to pick up James from work. He went in today, even though he was feeling rotten, because two other guys in his department were out sick too. He is leaving early, and I need to pick him up. Poor guy...
TECH: I agree with Jack, too many starchy carbs. I understand how you feel about the throne room. Instead of the carby stuff, how about increasing the veggies? Broccoli seems to be just as effective as grains for me. It doesn't matter if its fresh or frozen...it still has the fiber. Celery is almost all fiber. Make that a daily snack and you and the throne room will be on a daily schedule... :) Veggies with plenty of water ought to help keep things moving, including the scale!
JACK: I agree that the flylady emails can be overwhelming! I feel so popular when I log on to my email, only to find all of them are from there! They tell you to delete any you are not ready for, and I am! I have mailwasher, so I delete them before I even download them. I am certainly not ready for some of that stuff!
techwife 01-25-2005, 02:53 PM Regarding FlyLady!!
I was subscribed to FlyLady, too, until I couldn't take all the e-mails! She really has great philosophies...including the shoes thing. And I've been considering buying an apron, but to be honest, I can't wear nice clothes around the house to clean in because ALL of my fat gain in the last years is right around my middle. I wear a 16, but mostly the rest of my body is more like a 10 (size 10, that is  ...not on a scale of 1 to 10) so dressy clothes are so uncomfortable for me... I simply refuse to get on my hands and knees and scrub the floor unable to breathe in case the one or two people that drop by unannounced all year might stop by. I see her theory, but it's literally painful to clean in anything other than sweats. And I really love my slippers...especially after coming in out of the cold with sloppy sneakers. BUT, she really does try to steer you in the direction of being June Cleaverish. Imagine June going around the house in slippers? Or having anything other than a shining sink or leaving the bathroom un-wiped down. She always, always leaves the house with her make up and hair done with her best clothes on. I really should get back into the fly lady mode. But instead of joining the mailing group, I'll just go around the house and say "what would June do?" or "is this the way June would do this?"
And...thanks for the words regarding the bread/carbs. I will definitely start cutting down on the bread. Maybe once the weight starts coming off again and I'm comfortably loosing, I'll add more back in and play it by ear that way, but I need to get my weight loss back in gear here. I've been holding FAST to 171. Looking forward to a lurch in the right direction SOON!
heartmom 01-25-2005, 03:15 PM Hey, guys. Guess I had too much salt yesterday since my face is a little puffy and my rings won't budge. WIW is not looking good so far. Anyway, I got my workout in and have another one to go today(church). I'm about to starve, so my post will be short.
TEENSY- I don't see anything wrong with your menu. Have you measured? The only thing I see that I would do different is eat the fruit by itself not with meat. But that's it. Hoping you see some good news soon!
Here's my menu:
BF- had leftover cauliflower casserole and fresh green beans
Lunch- will be big salad made with chicken, veggies, cheese, egg, Ranch dressing
Snack- Atkins shake(mix)
Supper- will be chili(with beans), sour cream. And yea, I usually eat 2 bowls of this.
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 01-25-2005, 03:31 PM AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!!
It's very noisy around here today..they are putting in the new water pipes and there are two front loaders out there really acting like they are real busy!
I'm still doing laundry...I can't believe how much there is...I guess it's been a lot longer than I thought...THANK GAWD for a LOT OF UNDERWEAR!!!
JACKIE...Kate will be pulling for TUBBY tonight...ALAS...TENNESSEE doesn't have a good BB team and haven't for many years! I don't like their coach....he's mean to the players...watch him tonight and you'll see what I mean.
BARB...I just would NEVER be able to find enough to do around here to not work!
TECH...I agree with JACKIE...too many carbs....
OH...I ALMOST FORGOT.....I LOST ANOTHER POUND WHEN I WEIGHED AT THE DOCS!!!
MONET..good going making headway in the kitchen...I'll be expecting you when you're through!!!!
CINDY....{{{{{{{WELCOME}}}} I know I'm late in doing this, but I've been so preoccupied with my injuries that ....oh dang it....no excuses....WELCOME!
GATOR...thanks for the well wishes...
COLLEEN...nothing wrong with your menu...you should be our GUIDE ...you've done so well...between you and JACKIE...you should create a new portion of the board for HOW TO'S and WHEN NOT TO's....
LAURIE...I'm a salt hog, love it on particular things...just drink a lot of water today and it will be gone. HOW'S THE RASH???
I've got to go...I'll check in later...
BOB
Solly 01-25-2005, 05:28 PM Just checking in before I head home. Boy I have been sleepy all day. Hope exercising tonight will finally wake me up.
No plans for this evening so I should have no trouble getting my workouts in.
Monet, WTG on cleaning up. Tkae care as not to catch what your DS has.
Wood, we have one of those golden girls. She can do no wrong. Ugh!
Tech, I try to eat only 2 starchy carbs a day. It works best for me. I don't clean in good clothes either. If you come by unannounced, you get what you get and most of the time it's me without my wig.
Heart, hope WIW is better for you.
Bob, congrats on the 1 lb loss. Tell kate to cheer loud and hard to night. You never know how the CATS will play.
Have a great evening everyone.
Ellen 01-25-2005, 05:45 PM I have tried to be busy this afternoon...picked up James and brought him home. He ended up taking a nap on the sofa with one of his kittens curled up in his arms. Really cute.... I tried to get on Half and Amazon and find text books for Laura. I have no idea which ones she needs. The list she gave me does not include ISBN numbers, so I feel a little insecure ordering a $80 book I am not sure of! And her? She dizzed off to a friends to watch a movie. I called and left her a message on her cell phone. She was in a bad mood when she left...I am afraid to see how she is when she gets that.
My menu so far today:
Breakfast: 2 wheatless waffles (made with brown rice, etc. ) 1 cup milk with two scoops of whey protein, coffee with half and half.
Lunch: Bulghur bean salad, seven triscuits, 5 brown rice crackers, a sampling of gourmet cheeses including lemon stilton, Wensleydale, Amsterdam reserve gouda, blue stilton and blue gouda, Mahon. Water. small glass of port.
Dinner: Beef stroganoff on ww noodles ( I will try and eat only a few, as I had too many carbs today! :( Poor planning...) salad, water
We have small group tonight, so I am not sure when I will get back on. I did get a few things done today...I put up the mail slots that I was waiting on Tom to do. I got tired of waiting, and tried doing it myself. James helped when he saw I was having trouble. I also cleaned off half my desk, threw out a bunch of useless papers, and even cleaned the glass top with Windex! It looks nice! Tomorrow, I will do the other half! Yeah! Baby steps!
TECH: I had a good laugh over the June Cleaver comments...I always wanted to be like her! So 'together'! So organized! I don't pick up on Flylady saying you have to get dressed up in really nice clothes...and if she does, oh well! I wear the same thing all the time. ALL the time...to church even. And I NEVER wear shoes. I rarely wear them in church! So, I just ignore that, and do the other stuff. I am deleting a lot of the emails, cause they are just too much! I think they are moving their email system to their own web site and will have more control over sending it out...like maybe not bombarding newbies with all of them for a few weeks. How is the weather up there? Its warming up here...
BOB: Congrats on that lost pound! Tomorrow is the big day...did you find some suitable shoes?
WOOD: I know what you mean about students today! It seems that they just don't teach the basics anymore. I get totally freaked out when I read posts on forums by young people who can't spell, or contruct a simple, sensible sentence. Once, I was typing a paper for my son that he did with a group in a class in high school. The girl who insisted on writing it was one of the top students in his grade, and decided she would write it because she wanted a good grade on it. It was awful! I sat down with him and reworked it almost entirely. She was SO mad at him, but they got an A on it! If she was a top student, I shudder to think what the mediocre students were doing, and that was ten years ago. I bet it's worse now.
I better go get the kitchen picked up more for the group meeting tonight! See you all later, I hope!
Cindylcing 01-25-2005, 08:10 PM Im so excited. I finally weighed myself this morning after last mondays 1/2 pound gain ( my third day from switching to SB ) And I was so scared to get back on the scale. Well..... 7 pounds down in one week ! Thats better than I did on Atkins induction in one week !
My meals for the day:
breakfast- 2 scrambled eggs with a small sprinkle of chedder, 1 slice ww lc toast, 1/2 cup Lf cottage cheese
s- 1/2 cup cantaloupe
s- 5 radishes

s- vanilla yogurt with 1/4 cup blueberries

Ellen 01-26-2005, 09:09 AM Good Morning! Its WIW!
I saw Cindy's loss...wow! Seven pounds is fantastic! I am so happy for you!
I was down four since Monday's big jump up, so I was happy to be moving down again.
I woke up this morning at five, unable to move my left elbow. I had been sleeping on it funny, but the muscle and joint were hurting so bad I could hardly get out of the bed! Its a bit better now, but not much. I have had aches there before, but they have always gone away as soon as I started moving the joint. I may call my massage therapist and see if she can work me in sometime soon. The two workouts in two days may have contributed, but I am not stopping for the pain. I will just take it easy on the arm machines.
I hope WIW is good to everyone! I am heading down to make coffee and see the the sink is shined. :) I am dressed, and my bed is made. Unfortunately, I can't follow orders totally...I am barefooted, and intend to stay that way until I have to go outside, at which time I will either put on loafers, or my birks. (yep, rebellious...that is why I use those O's instead of X's! ;) )
Speaking of red O's and X's...how is everyone doing on them? I am not sure if I get one for yesteday, since I drank that 2 or 3 oz. of port.....any opinions?
I'll be back...
Solly 01-26-2005, 09:49 AM Happy WIW Ladies
I sure hope we all see losses today. It seems everyone is doing better,
I am down 4 lbs since last WIW. I was down 1 more yesterday, but it is back today so guess it wasn't a good one.
Got in 1.5 miles on the TM 26 minutes and 25 mintues of wt training.
Didn't sleep well last night and had to get up and fix DH some BF, guess I didn't have to but, I did.
Monet, port at lunch? Are you trying to tell us something? I saw you are 2 for 2 ont he exercise board. You go girl. WTG on the 4 lbs. :cheer: I vote yes onthe O, wine is legal and I would say port is not going to hurt you. I'm 2 days on the X's and exercise. I'm right with you.
Cindy, Great job. Keep up the good work.
Bob how was your first day back to work?
Off to eat my english muffin and then off to my meeting. Have a great day. Be back later.
woodfrogs 01-26-2005, 10:08 AM Good morning everyone,
I was brave and got on the scale this morning, down 6 pounds since last Wed!
I know that it isn't always like this, but it feels great today! I'm back on track and feeling good again! Went to the gym and did my strength training. Won't be able to do anything today, I have a meeting tonight. Tomorrow I'll get on the TM again. Today I'm wearing my skinny jeans(sz 16)
Cindy - Way to go! What an awesome start!
Menu today:
egg, bacon, cheese on small bagel
apple
celery/carrots
carb control yogurt
1/2 PB sandwich on rye
It's snowing here again, my luck, since I have to go to a different office bldg later today. Hopefully the work truck will manage on the cruddy roads.
DH went skiing today, he needed a break from work.
Went to see "Sideways" last night. A little odd, but the ending was good.
We've actually seen a couple of Oscar nominees - The Aviator, very good, I would recommend it. And Finding Neverland, which was excellent, and I would also recommend.
Guess I should be productive for awhile today....
Have a great day everyone,

Toni48 01-26-2005, 10:59 AM Howdy all.... Well I'm on the mend after my test Monday at the hospital. Good news is I have no blockages in my legs. I'm so happy. We got home at 11 Monday night. Yeasterday I sat most of the day while DH took care of me. I'm still sore and have to take it easy now. I can't drive for 3 days and can't lift for 7 to 10 days. I'll be so glad when its all over and I can get back to the treadmill and normal life. I gained 1/2 lb. this week. I know I've eaten some things that weren't legal, but when you're down you have to take what you're given. I'm so glad I did make a pot of taco soup before the hospital and we're eating on that now. That really helps. Won't be long before I'm back to my usual self. Wow Cindy did great on losing that 7 lbs. Congradulations. Good to see Bob gets to go back to work.... Better go now....
techwife 01-26-2005, 11:16 AM BARBARA - WOW!! What a great loss for you!! Glad to see you're in your skinny jeans!! Before long, they'll be your comfy, loose jeans at the pace you're going!! :cb: :cp: :cb: :cp: :cb:
MONET!! JACKIE!! - Both down four!! Everyone here's just melting away!! Isn't it great!?!
:tread: :workout: :tread: :workout: :tread: Keep up the great work, guys!!
MONET - Just remember my key to being a FlyBaby...your new mantra is..."What would June Cleaver do?"...when it comes to how you should tackle something in your house or how you should behave, what you should wear, etc. Nobody could possibly actually be totally like June Cleaver without going completely insane, but its something to aspire to at least
HEARTMOM - Hope your WIW shows some change in the right direction!!
BOB - Good luck back at work!! I know, I loved working when I did...especially being able to talk to adults!! But I'm really loving my time home with the little ones. When I quit my last job to be a stay at home mom, I was really nervous, wondering what in the heck I was going to do to fill my day. Trust me, I'm always, always busy. My first fear was when my old boss was in a cubicle next me talking to her sister about when she was home for some time with a sinus infection and she's like, "Oh, my God, there's NOTHING to watch on TV during the day...I would go literally insane if I had to stay at home everyday." Well, I'm way too busy to watch TV. My laundry heckles at me constantly, as does the constant clutter from having a preschool-age boy in the house all day that has five times as many toys as most kids his age...and NO playroom!! Soon enough, though, he'll be off to kindergarden (Sept 2006) and then it's back to work for me after I go to therapy for Kyle withdrawl!! I'm dreading it and looking forward to it at equally. Well, mostly dreading it I think:?:
Then there's me...still holding fast to 171 this morning. But I did manage a half hour on the Air Dyne last night. This is my goal to get to a half hour everyday. I think it's adequate for now as it exercises both the legs and the arms and I work the arms really hard while on it, only taking short breaks during the work out. Also, I learned in college gym class that working the arms aerobically is especially good for your heart...the closer the aerobic activity is to your heart, the more your heart benefits from it. Then, I do some crunches afterward. I'm remaining confident that I'll have a miraculous drop next week...or at least soon, anyway.
Menu change from yesterday. In leiu of the pasta last night, to avoid another starch carb, I had chicken strips sauteed in olive oil, paprika and Mrs. Dash and put it over a really loaded green salad, with raw cauliflour, red and green peppers, chick peas, olives, romaine and boring lettuce and washed it down with 8oz of skim milk.
Now, for today...
BF
2 eggs scrambled with sauteed red and green peppers, onions, mushrooms, topped with cheddar cheese
2 slices of 7 grain bread
grapes
coffee with splenda and half and half
SNACK - smoothie!! For protien, I do add a raw egg to the mix ;) I know some people have asked about the protien content of my smoothies...
LUNCH -
Chicken Salad sandwich on 2 slices of 7 grain bread. Did I mention that the 7-grain bread is a skinny loaf, so the slices are small, making it a small little sandwich?
sliced green peppers
Kiwi or orange or grapes (have to see what I'll be in the mood for)
DINNER -
Leftover chicken breast
Salad
8 oz skim milk
Water count from yesterday - 80 fl oz. This is a stretch for me because I'm not used to drinking so much water, but I plan to try and drink this much every day and will strive for more, as well.
I JUST LOVE THE PRETTY COLORS... (Sorry, just had a creative spurt - I'm truly a geek)
Bye, guys!! Kris
techwife 01-26-2005, 11:25 AM TONI - We were posting at the same time. Glad to see your'e back from the hospital and on the road to recovery. You'll be back on your feet in no time. And back on the treadmill.
C-ya!! Kris
PS...I rented a movie last night...Cold Mountain. It was really good...Renee Zellwegger truly earned her grammy! BUT, I was under the false impression that it was a fluffy romance. I was going to watch it with my daughter, but ended up waiting till they were in bed and did my half hour Air Dyne while watching it. Good thing...definitely NOT for the kids, THAT'S for sure!! But it was a VERY good movie...even though I bawled my eyes out.
I'm really going now...Kris
techwife 01-26-2005, 11:59 AM Yes, me...AGAIN!!
Anyone seen this documentary/film, Supersize Me? I thought the trailer, which you can see by going to the website www.supersizeme.com , would be enough to make all of us really, really thankful that we're on Sugar Busters, with a healthy eating plan...even if we aren't currently loosing weight!! Check it out. It's almost sort of gross!! :^: It's nominated for an Oscar!!
Ellen 01-26-2005, 12:01 PM Back after a huge breakfast and some 'Cleavering'.
Breakfast was two non wheat waffles, a two scoop whey protein smoothie made with a cup of 1% milk, and then two wheat waffles! :yikes: I was just starving! I should have resisted! Add to that a couple of cups of coffee with half and half.
The kitchen is relatively clean..the dishwasher is unloaded, and reloaded, and the sinks are all clean and shiny! I did a 27 fling boogie too. (that is where you take a trash bag and run around the house and throw out 27 clutter items! I got to 29, and quit) I should go and work out, but I am dragging my feet on it, as my arm is still really hurting. I may take today off, and go just four days this week, and five thereafter. I guess my goal will be five, and if I make it four, that is better than the once or twice I was going. Right?
JACK: Thanks for the opin on the port. I will go ahead and give myself that red O. I am expecting a shipment today of Clemson University blue cheese, supposedly one of the best domestic blues available. I will refrain from the port today! ;)
TECH: I am SO with you on the June Cleaver! :) Once, a number of years ago, I was at a women's ministry meeting from church. We had to put on a card the woman we most wanted to be like from history, or the present. Most of the women picked these great role models...Eleanor Roosevelt, Madame Curie, Clara Barton. You were supposed to guess whose role model it was. Mine? June Cleaver! The ladies either laughed, or were very perplexed!
TONI: Its good to see you posting! I am glad there was no blockage! That is good news. Don't worry about the OP stuff...you do what you can, and get better as fast as you can. Then you can get back to the TM, and eating right.
WOOD: :cheer: Yay on that six pounds! I KNOW that feels good! I hope the snow is not a problem for driving around today! Send some down here! I would love a vacation day! (everything closes if it snows here! )
Ok, I am off again...got things to do and miles to go before I sleep!
Pancho 01-26-2005, 04:30 PM Good Wednesday:
Sorry I have been missing in action. I have been reading posts periodically, but haven't had a chance to post. Britt was home sick on Monday, and then went back to school yesterday, and was feeling fine, and then today, I get a call from the school nurse to go get her, since she had the sweats and was feverish. It seems like a pretty bad cold.
I was 123#'s this morning, so that is 3# from my "normal" weight of 120#. I have to get back there somehow. My eating has been pretty good, and my exercise pretty good. I did my Slim in 6 tape on Monday since I couldn't go to the gym, and I got up at 4 a.m. this morning to go to the gym. I plan to go to the gym again on Friday (if Britt is back in school and Lane isn't sick). I also plan to go to the gym on Saturday, and get my hair cut! I need the haircut desperately.
Congratulations to those of you who have seen losses this week; what incentive to keep up the great work. I am going back to no starches at dinnertime for awhile, and be real strict about eating nothing after dinner.
Well, I have got to run and get some stuff done and "baby" my little Britt for awhile. I bought her a milkshake on the way home from school, and need to go check and see if we have chicken noodle soup for her dinner. I sure hope Lane doesn't get this, or me!
Oh, and by the way, it is very difficult to read the yellow font for those of you who are using it.
HAVE A GREAT OP DAY AND A GREAT OP REST OF THE WEEK!!
Nat
Ellen 01-26-2005, 04:52 PM My day is not going the way I had planned...was supposed to go help a young woman from church do a project for Children's ministry today, but when I got to her house, she was not there. I have not heard from her yet either...weird.
I got the attached photo from Fillise of her at the Inaugural ball, and resized it for her and posted it. Dress looks wonderful!
TECH: I saw Supersize Me a couple weeks ago and mentioned it on here...I think it should be required watching for everyone. The extra scenes at the end, with the french fries was enough to turn me off fast food for the rest of my life! Seriously! I hope it wins a lot of awards!
PANCHO: I am sorry Britt's been sick. Stay well! Keep up your wonderful eating and exercise and those three pounds will be gone in no time!
Solly 01-26-2005, 06:00 PM Running home.
It's been a busy day. Chili is made for dinner and plan to get in my TM and wt training in before we run to the Elk's club tonight.
Barbara, 6 lbs is awesome. Enjoy it when you can. Be careful on the roads today.
Toni, great news! I was just wondering about you. Take it easy like they say and you will be back to normal quickly. Don't worry about that 1/2 lb. Probably fluids anyway.
TEch, WTG on getting on the bike. Airdyne's are hard work. I used to have one. Hang in there you will see a loss next week for sure. FYI. You can't read the yellow print. I wanted to see Cold Mountain, but my DD told me it was sad. I can't do sad. I cry to easily.
Monet, boy you are kicking butt in that house. COme to mine when you are finsihed.
Nt, sorry to hear Britt has been sick. Make sure you don't catchit. You willbe back at your low in no time with all the exercise you get.
I'm outta here. Concrats to all the losers this week. Let's see more next week.
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 01-26-2005, 06:48 PM EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!! BOB'S HOME FROM THE SALT MINES!!!
It really wasn't too bad. I got really tired...ate my lunch at my desk and shot home at 4p.m. EVERYONE was glad to see me, and I've been told it will be a LONG TIME before they let me go on vacation again. One of the girls reminded me that ever since I came back in October from my trip to the wedding, that I shot down hill from there! And I guess she's right...I got sick and missed close to three weeks of work, then I had my "finger mishap" and then the fall and off for a month!
MONET...I got into my tennis shoes today...they have felt good all day. I sure did miss my BIRKS though...
CINDY....CONGRATS ON YOUR LOSS!!! THAT'S GREAT...7lbs!!!
KRIS...I saw SUPERSIZE ME...it was kinda cute....you should get it....in fact, everyone should see it for the results this guy has and what he goes through.
TONI...I'm so glad you did well with your test. I know your relieved that there is no blockage. That's not a fun surgery to have to go through.
You'll get back on track...just dive in!
NAT...good to see you...we understand your not being here...just get in here when you can...squeeze BRITT from her AUNTY BOB!!!
BARB....thanks, I've been wondering about those movies...now I know...Can't wait to see them!
JACKIE....MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM CHILI...love it...I need to make some...Have you ever made WHITE CHILI???
I'm off for now...time to fix some supper...
BOB
Cindylcing 01-26-2005, 07:50 PM :cp: Yeah to everyone losing !
Today was a alright eating day but skipped my exercise because after working 12 hours today and having a headache I just didnt have anything left for exercise.
heres my menu:
breakfast- kashi cereal, 3 bacon, 1 slice of ww lc toast
s- celery stalks 2
s- 1 cup diced cantaloupe
lunch- turkey sandwich
s- 5 radishs
s- 1oz almonds
dinner- grilled fish,1 cup steamed brocilli
s- plain yogurt with blueberries
I saw supersize me a while back and thought also it would be a great movie for everyone to see.
Ellen 01-26-2005, 07:59 PM A quick fly by, therefore no colors...sorry my friends!
Dinner was scrumptillyishous! Scallops, sauteed then baked restaurant style (taught me by my chef son in law). Tom and James had salmon...which I don't care for. We had shrimp too, stir fried nappa cabbage, broccoli and in a bit we will try some of the Clemson blue cheese. I am ticked though. It was listed as a two pound wheel, and when it got here, it was only 24 oz! It makes it more like $20 a pound, and I doubt its better than Maytag, which I can get for about $15 a pound!
I am off to the store! Will try and check in before bed!
GatorGal 01-26-2005, 08:40 PM Monet--Maybe they have a two pound wheel and goofed up and sent you the 24 oz. instead. It definitely rates a follow up.
I had a good dinner: about 3 oz. prime filet of beef,m brilled, stir fried broccoli in sesame oil, and fresh tomato and---a glass of red wine. yum.
Steps today 13185!
Gotta go study French. Test tomorrow.
techwife 01-26-2005, 08:54 PM Well, my menu changed slightly. I opted for an 'open faced' sandwich today, which means I put the chicken salad and green peppers on top of one slice of bread instead of two. Trying to cut down on the bread.
Regarding water: I think I refilled my 20 oz bottle three times, making my water intake a measly 60 oz. BUT, I switched to hot tea after shoveling my driveway to thaw my frozen butt (I was stupidly shoveling in my cotton pants and not my jeans or snowpants)!! :coffee: Temp right now is a whopping 5 degrees and they issued a Wind Chill Warning which means the temp is going to minus 20, then with the wind, it's going to be more like 30 below or something insane like that. I always have my hot tea!! How are you guys down south handling this chilly weather? I know, I get used to the cold by getting out walking in it...it's quite a shocker for you guys down there!! Hope you're all keeping warm and covering your plants!! :D
Didn't do the Air Dyne today because of the shoveling and then I did my workout last night before bed while watching the movie. BUT, I'm trying a new routine. Since the Air Dyne is in my bedroom, I'm trying getting up at 6:30-7 and going for my half hour while DD gets ready for school so I can get it out of the way first thing...and not procrastinate around it. Besides, if I start right out of bed, I'll be half way done with my half hour before I'm totally awake and will, in a sense, sleep through half of it. ;)
That's it for now...talk to you cats and kittens later on.
Kris
(note: the blue color because I'm FREEZING!!)
GatorGal 01-26-2005, 10:03 PM We gals down south are now doing fine because the chilly weather is a mere 50's at night and 70's in the daytime. In Fla. we don't own heavy coats because we just wait a couple of days and the cold weather goes away and we are back to our wonderful temps. Of course, in the summer it is hot, but I notice that all the big cities like DC and NYC are also in the 90's. We are used to going from our airconditioned house to our air-conditioned car into our air-conditioned office or store. So it is not too bad. And for exercise, we just run or walk early in the morning or in the evening after an afternoon rain has cooled things off.
This evening I walked in my long pants and a T shirt.
Kris--I feel for ya, gal. But you only have 2.5 months to go before spring arrives. Drink that tea. It's good for you.
fruitloupe 01-26-2005, 11:09 PM Hey friends...
This is a flyby to say I'm still alive and doing well. I'm still at the same weight though. I'm really busy with Mardi Gras right around the corner. We are working on our costumes etc. We have our last adoption certification meeting tomorrow too! I'm so excited. I'll try to get here over the weekend!! See you soon!
Missy
Ellen 01-26-2005, 11:33 PM I spent way too much at the store. We went back to the new HUGE Asian market...I LOVE that place! I got a bag of small peeled, cooked shrimp- 2 pounds for $6! My son found a yogurt based drink that comes frozen in little bottles that he and his Korean friend used to drink all the time in high school. They were cheaper than I have seen them anywhere...so he bought a bunch! He wanted me to get some small octopus to cook, but I refused until I have a recipe! (whew! Good excuse, huh? ) I got some fresh cod steaks to try and steam. Their fish was very fresh looking and incredibly cheap. They had beautiful Grouper and Red Snapper. I was tempted to get some, but a friend was fishing today and told me anything he caught he was going to give to me. He usually gets rainbow trout, so I decided to wait and see if he has anything for me. I need to clean out the freezer too...I have TOO much stuff in my fridge, freezer, and cabinets! Unfortunately, as my son in law used to lament to my son, all this good food, and nothing to eat! They would be looking for something fast, and not able to find it on my cabinets.
Anyway, I had a blast shopping. I really want to do a Chinese New Year banquet, but I am having a hard time convincing Tom. Maybe now that he has the cold water all fixed, he will be in a better mood! ;)
I will make replies tomorrow....
But one...
TECH: It was about 55 here today, and going down to about 40 tonight. Being originally from Chicago, I think the temps are very liveable right now. :) I remember the wind chill being really bad growing up...so be careful out there!
Good night all!
Teensybean 01-27-2005, 01:24 AM Evening ladies.....
Spent most of the day in town with dh......I usually like to go in myself, but we had to drop my car off. It has been making a noise that doesn't belong there. And since we are out in the boonies, I don't want to break down somewhere. So.....I forgot to weigh and didn't get any exercise in either. It is hurry, hurry, and hurry somemore when dh wants to go.
We stopped in at Golden Corral for lunch. Even though I know that the salad was more like a cobb salad, (it probably had more fat than I should have had) I did great. I had the green salad, a couple of dill pickle spears, dug some white turkey meat out of the gravy, and some greenbeans. For dessert I ate the filling out of a piece of SF blueberry pie. Yeah!!! And I wasn't stuffed and miserable either. Dh said he was though!!
Menu--
B--4 oz blackberries 1/2 hour before;
3.6 oz venison hot link
1/3 c Roman Meal Hot Cereal, 1 oz ff milk, 1 splenda
Lite 85 yogurt
L-- apple 1/2 hour before;
Turkey, salad with bleu cheese dressing, greenbeans, sf blueberry pie filling.
snack--orange
D--
1 slice homemade bread, 2 T nsa peanut butter, 1 oz sf apricot all fruit
Lite 85 yogurt
I will get to everyone tomorrow, I am just too tire tonight. Congrats to all you losers....boy, a couple of you are really big losers, WTG!! I will try to remember to weigh in the morn.
Ellen 01-27-2005, 09:08 AM Good Morning! I slept pretty well last night, even though I was kind of concious of my elbow all night. I did not want to do whatever it was I did that made it so painful yesterday. I think I slept in a different position, and its better today.
I am SO loving being more organized! Last night, I shined my sink and got the coffee pot ready before I went to bed. It's great waking up to a clean sink, and hot coffee already made! Tom turns it on for me when he gets up. So, I am sitting here with my coffee already. :coffee: Yay! Behind me, the bed is made, and my dresser is cleaned off, as is my night stand! I have half of my desk to work on, but it is coming along nicely. Then, I will have to tackle the closet! Argh! Not looking forward to that.
Last night, at the Asian market, James bought me a treat...its ice cream made with fruit, and no dairy. The man behind the counter had given us samples and a sales pitch on how it did not have sugar in it, but something that is 'good for the body' that we could not understand what he was saying. (he was Asian and had a heavy accent) I got Lychee and Mandarin Orange in a cup, and James got Blueberry and Kiwi in a cup. Oh, my! The flavors were fabulous. We also tried the coconut, mango, and pineapple. I would love to take home a quart of the stuff and serve it as a dessert course for a Chinese banquet. Maybe with a homemade fortune cookie and a silly fortune...
I digress... I have not had breakfast yet, but I plan to have a protein smoothie and waffle. I am supposed to go work out this morning, then go to lunch with my massage therapist, then for a massage. I get home about 2:15, and have my drawing group at 2:30. Then I have to make dinner (stuffed shells and salad) and go to a meeting tonight. (BOB: How can you get bored at home when there is always so much to do?? I honestly can't imagine how I would manage working 40 hours out of the house. Thank God we are all different! :) )
TEENSY: I think you did really well at Golden Corral! :cheer: Yay, you! I don't blame you for wanting the car in tip top shape! Even around town, its a pain to have car trouble.
FRUIT: It's always good to see you! Don't get discouraged the scale does not budge for a while! Persevere and you will see it move again. Like Cindy...seven in one week! Or Woodfrogs, with six after no loss for a few weeks! Dare I ask, WHEN is Mardi Gras?
GATOR: Ah, spoken like a true southerner...Tom tells me he does not understand why people want to live in places like NYC or Chicago, it gets just as hot up there as here in the summer, but then you have six months of bitter cold weather! (to him anything below 40 is bitter! ) He keeps telling me we need to move to Florida, and I imagine one day, we probably will. After 33 years in the south, I admit I am spoiled, though I do miss snow now and then.
TECH: I hope this red helps you to feel warmer! That is great that you are doing your exercise in the morning. It gets you all revved up for the day, and keeps your metabolic rate up longer if you exercise in the morning. I had to laugh about sleeping half way through it. Once you get into the habit, you might even look forward to it.
CINDY: I honestly think sometimes its good to give your body a rest for exercise. My husband was doing Body For Life and not making much progress a few years ago. He had nasal surgery and during the recovery time, I swear he put on muscle even though he was not working out! I think he just needed the rest time to recover the muscles too! I hope work is not as stressful soon.
BOB: I feel for you! Tennis shoes instead of Birks...(shaking head) SO sad! :) I am glad you survived your first day back. I can imagine your co-workers missed you, and not just from the added work load!
Gotta go...the crazy kittens are trying to pull the drain thingie out of the sink in the bathroom. I just don't get it. Why can't they leave stuff alone? It's like having three two year olds who can climb the walls running around!
techwife 01-27-2005, 10:06 AM CHECK OUT MY TICKER!! One pound in the right direction!! Next step...back into the 160's... :dancer:
Weather update...My Weather Channel desktop thingy says minus 9, but on the news, they said it was minus 18 at the airport. Either way, it's just plain brutal. SO glad we got a new furnace last year.
I already got my 20 mins in on the Air Dyne and had a 16 oz bottle of water before I even had my coffee...it worked!! I watched the local morning news in a dumb stare and before I knew it, it was almost over! I hate the Air Dyne, but I know it's good excercise, so I suffer. Would love a stepper instead that works the arms, as well. Maybe someday.... :^:
Teensy: I hear ya with the hubby being all hurried up to go places. My DH is the same way...no loitering to window shop AT ALL...just get what's on the list as fast as possible and get outta there. And I'm like, "but look at those pretty shoes...you know, Kyle could use a new carseat and there's a sale...oooohhhh, jewelry" The last one makes him walk really, really fast! He just really hates crowds and shopping. It's a guy thing.
Monet: That Asian market sounds fantabulous! I just love seafood...but the rest of the family hates it. I can't ever imagine my kids asking me to buy octopus!! :lol:I can barely get fish sticks down the hatch!!
Fruitloupe: Don't despair over the no weight loss. As I always say, SB is a great way of eating and taking care of yourself, diet-wise, even if you don't loose weight for a little bit. It'll start to move in the right direction soon...
Gator: As much as I seem to complain about the cold, it's really just an observation...I'm not a hot weather person in the least...I get headaches and really, really grumpy. Up here in the north country, we typically get summer temps around the 70's or sometimes 80's and the breeze coming in off the lake is like a breath of heaven on hotter days. :D I remember one particularly hot summer in Rochester, flirting with the idea of moving to Alaska.
So, I just got DD off to school...I usually take her, but her best friend's mom decided to drive her daughter to school and asked if I'd like her to go with them...NO PROBLEMO!! Saves me from having to start the car 15 mins before I leave and dressing up myself and Kyle for the Frozen Tundra just to drive a half mile down the road to school. Waaay too cold to let your poor kid walk to school. But almost too much hassle to drive that little bit, too..so I really appreciate my friend picking her up for me!!
So, I'm being a tiny bit FlyBaby-ish and I have my bed made, my clothes changed, my son's clothes changed, he's had his breakfast, DD's off to school, my exercising is done for the day...all that's left is to go get a second cuppa joe and make my eggs and toast!! Yay!! Then, I can sit and read my Sahara book while Kyle plays with his toys. He's got an assignment to draw three pictures to send to Gramma and Grampa in Florida...then he can watch his TV shows.
See yous guys later!! Kris :hun: Time for breakfast...will post my menu later on. PS...my salad was AWESOME last night...lots of romaine, red and green peppers, chick peas, olives, tomatoes, raw broccoli and cauliflower and shredded cheddar cheese. Then topped it off with leftover chicken. Dee-lish!!
bye guys!!
Solly 01-27-2005, 10:18 AM Good Morning Ladies
Can't say that it is a good one here though. I could not sleep last night. Finally dozed off somewhere between 2;30 and 3:30 and tehn went to bed. Woke up at 5:50 from a bad dream. So I am running on 3 hours sleep. It's gonna be a long day.
We had dinner plans with friend tonight. I turned down free concert tickets to se Joe Nichols at a local club and now one of the couples has cancelled.
Did get my TM and wts in last night. So Monet, I'm three for three and three OP days so far.
Having lunch with a another friend (if she doesn't cancel), it will be a salad or taco salad with no shell.
Bob, glad your first day back was easy. Figured you would be tired. I've made white chili. I like it, just not myfavorite.
Cindy, you have to listen to your body, you can make up that exercise another day.
Monet, I would check on that cheese, maybe they sent you the wrong one.
Gator, good luck on your test.
Tech, I'm surprised your didn't freeze your booty off in that cold. Good idea to get your bike out of the way early. I love to do that, just can't get my lazy arse out of the bed.
Missy, hang in there girl. You are doing great. Drop in when you can.
Teensy, WTG on eating at the buffet. They are soo hard to do.
Got to go pretend I'm working. Think I'll find somewhere to hide and take a nap.
techwife 01-27-2005, 10:20 AM Me again...I know it's not Friday for the funnies, but I just got this from my aunt. This is a joke note from the electric company after the customer complained about the high cost of electric.
Dear Electric Customer,
Just a little note to let you know we understand your anger in the recent price hike. But it should be noted that you have no choice. We are a big company and you will pay what we tell you. You have no choice. We have the power, you need the power. So sad, too bad. Sucks to be you. Have a nice day and keep those checks coming, loser!
Sincerely,
Your Local Power Co
 This sounds so much like our fuel oil company...$1.99 a gallon!! Practically criminal when it was barely over a $1 a gallon five years ago when we moved here!!
Pancho 01-27-2005, 12:26 PM Good morning everyone:
Britt is home again today; she is feeling much better, but I think she can use another day to rest. She has a slight fever and is coughing so brutally that she has almost thrown up a few times. She slept on the couch a lot yesterday, and then I put her to bed at 7 p.m. and she slept until around 6:30 ish. She feels better overall, and hopes to go to school tomorrow...we'll see. I don't feel so bad keeping her out at this age; she just doesn't like to have to do the extra homework though.
I was still 123# this morning. So far today, I have had a protein smoothie (4 oz water, 4 oz soy milk, 1 cup of frozen mixed berries, 1/2 banana and 1 scoop of Natural Edge powder). This protein powder is great; it is made with no artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors, fillers or hydrogenated oils. It is sweetened with stevia, lohaun, and xylitol and tastes delicious. It has a high amount of protein, so I only use one scoop -vs- the recommended two scoops. Lunch will probably be a salad w/ a salmon filet and olive oil/vinegar dressing.
Tonight I have to do a music survey. I get paid $60 for 2 1/2 hours of "fun." They have you and a large group of other people wear headphones and give them your input on commercials and promotional info. for a particular radio station. If you get there early, you can put your name in a drawing for another $60. It will be nice to get out of the house for a few hours. I love my kids, but when you have one home sick and the other one bugging the sick child, it gets a little stressful. Lane doesn't understand why Britt is home and not wanting to play with her.
Monet: Sounds like you got some good buys at the Asian Market. I'm glad you got your water fixed. Do you think you are busy enough today? Enjoy your massage. Thanks for posting the pic. of Fillise.
Fillise: What a lovely gown. I am so glad you enjoyed yourself; it sounds like such fun.
Jack-K: You have been doing so awesome with your exercise; way to go!! Sorry you didn't get a good night's sleep. I actually slept more last night than I have in a long time. I was in bed by 9:30, and got up at 12:30 to check on Britt, and then back to bed until 6 a.m. I know that I won't be getting to bed until around midnight tonight, so I guess I was planning ahead. I hope you can get to bed early tonight.
BOB: Glad you made it back to work. Thanks for the hugs for Britt; she can sure use lots of them...poor little thing.
Cindy: Good job posting your menu. I guess I won't point out that you had four carbs since you lost so darn much last week ;) . Good job on those fruits and veggies!! Keep up the great work!
Gator: Great job on those steps!! Good luck on your test. I couldn't have said "it" better....thank heavens for AC in the summer. Unless working outside, you don't notice the heat too much; you become accustomed to it. However, after visiting Nashville, Alabama, Florida last summer.....I sure am thankful for our "dry" heat. That humidity about did me in.
Tech: You did great on your water intake. That hot tea is good for you, so keep drinking up and stay warm! I love to workout first thing in the morning, then there is no excuses. The days that I wait to workout, things always seem to come up to prevent me from doing it. You also feel better the rest of the day and it starts the day off right in all aspects...eating, etc... 160's here we come. Shall I feel guilty reading you and Monet's posts??? It is almost 9:30 here, and we are all still in our jammies. Britt will probably stay in hers all day, but Lane and I will get dressed at some point before lunch  .
Teensy: You s/b so proud of yourself!!! You've done it again...you got all that crap out of your diet and you are on a smooth roll now. You've made it over that difficult hump and are well on your way now!
Ken: Where are you???? How are you feeling???? Come on by and give us a quick update when you can.
Gotta Run! I s/b able to check in later since we are pretty much homebound today.
Take care,
Nat
techwife 01-27-2005, 12:44 PM Hi...me again...you guys must get so sick of seeing my posts...I DO tend to rattle on...
Anyhow...I was just eating my snack (1/2 an orange and a handful of peanuts with 20oz of water) and looking through the maintainer's forum at the before and after pictures. I was brought to tears!! So many successful 'losers'! And they all look so dern happy!!
Well, I've decided that I'd like to get a decent exercise video, but I don't want one that I'll have to rearrange my living room for...aka...I don't want one that makes you run around and kick and flail so that you end up having to clear the room of furniture to exercise. I mean, what's wrong with jumping jacks? Anyhow...any suggestions? Something that let's you exercise and work up your heart rate without dancing around the whole room...you know what I mean...
Kris
Toni48 01-27-2005, 12:44 PM Hello all- Wow am I way behind. But its taking me forever this morning to get started. I'm healing well and will sure be glad when things are back to normal. My eating has been pretty good. Hopefully tomorrow I can get out. I can't drive yet but a friend is going to come and get me. If the weather holds. That nasty little weatherman man said possible ice and snow tomorrow. Life is boring right now. I was so pleased a friend came and visited a while yesterday and broke the day up. Guess I'll go now....
Solly 01-27-2005, 12:59 PM Tech, A lot of us here use the Walk Off the Pounds Tapes. There is a 1 mile, 2 and 3. I have the 3 and it uses weights. I think now they use the bands. I really like it. probably the best one I have ever purchased.
woodfrogs 01-27-2005, 02:55 PM Hi everyone,
It's sooooo cold here, single digits! And I had an appt this morning with a landowner to walk their woodlot(their snowy woodlot) at 9am. Talk about bundled up! But I was warm! and moving around wasn't too bad. So I may skip the tm this afternoon, since that walk was 2hours. I need to hit the grocery store anyway.
Nat - it's always a bummer with a sick child. I remember those days well. Now I just have a dh who tends to act like a kid when he's sick :)
techwife - i have a couple of pilates tapes that I like, no flailing around for that at all. And if I could do pilates at 270, anybody can :)
Not too much else going on;;;
menu
egg, bacon cheese on sm bagel w/ glass of milk
1/2 pb sand on rye
carrots/celery
carb control yogurt
we're having dinner with friends and I have no idea what she's making, so we'll see how that goes.
I felt pretty good last night, I had to go to a meeting, and they supplied the pizza and soda. I brought my own water, and they let me order a salad, so I only had 1 slice, and the teeniest piece of coffee cake. I felt virtuous, given my choices.
Have a great day everyone!

Ellen 01-27-2005, 03:08 PM Got my massage...ah! Heaven! I feel like I ought to take a nap or something. Instead, I am drinking lots of water, and attempting to communicate with my 18 year old daughter in a rational manner. Ms. Drama Queen is in one of THOSE moods...
I just ate some salad, and a bowl of popcorn for lunch. Not very nutritious... Breakfast was a protein smoothie and ww waffles. Dinner will be stuffed shells and salad. Too many starches again. :( At least I got my exercise in, made my bed, and shined my sink!
TECH: My massage therapist always recommends The Firm tapes. They have a lot of them. My daughter has some and really enjoyed doing them. I am not much of a exercise video person, so I can't give any "real" advice! I would rather take a walk! (Maybe I ought to look into the WOTP ones..)
techwife 01-27-2005, 03:48 PM Hi guys!! Woohoo!! It's 3 degrees!! Break out the sunscreen!! Seriously, there's not a cloud in the sky...so inviting until you OPEN THE DOOR!!!
Anyhow...I have the WOTP Mile 1 and Mile 2 in my shopping bag on Amazon. Just have to confer with the DH since it's OUR money, not mine or his. They look like they are right up my alley. Once I get used to them, I may order the ABS version and get the belt. I have Abs of Steel at home (talk about an oxymoron!!), but they have you rolling all over the floor and moving all over the living room...what a pain...and the routine is soooo long, especially for the beginner. This seems like it will be more a gradual work up to the tough stuff :)
Menu:
BF:
3 eggs scrambled with red and green peppers/mushrooms/onions/cheddar cheese
1 slice of sourdough toast
1/2 orange
coffee with splenda and half n half
Snack:
Handful of peanuts
grapes
20oz water
Lunch:
Smoothie with yogurt, milk, ice, vanilla, 2 eggs (for extra protien), splenda and a partially green banana
1/2 orange (left it out of the smoothie as it makes it really pulpy and I didn't feel like pulp today)
Cheddar cheese
20 oz water
Dinner:
WW spaghetti with sauce (notice the lack of bread above ;) )
Big mongo salad
8 oz skim milk
snack will probably be an apple or something like that...

Campmaster1492 01-27-2005, 04:43 PM Hi Folks,
Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I'm new to this board, although I was here a couple of years ago. I was doing well, but my wife got sick and I just feel out of this way of eating. Any way my name is Tom and I did a profile yesterday, but not sure which board I put it on.:)
Just spoke to the Dr. about test results, although not great not that bad. I have type 2 and need to lose a lot of weight. I put about 30 pounds on in the past two months so a bit depreesed. In fact that and strees was the cause of the weight gain.
Oh well, don't want to bring you all down.
Looking forward to meeting you all.
Solly 01-27-2005, 05:31 PM Just about time to head home. It's been a long day. I felt really sick at lunch. Don't know if it is from lack of sleep or what. We are going to dinner with friends. I think we have finally settled on a place. It is fun to go, but such an ordeal getting there. I plan to be legal. Hoping I feel up to at least getting my tm in before we leave.
Campmaster. Welclome and welcome back. We don't get many men on here. We tend to run them off  If you have diabetes, SB is great for you. Looking forward to getting to know you.
Toni, The bad thing about winter and being bored is you turn to food. At least I do. Try to keep busy. Glad you are healing well. Hope you don't get that snow and ice, b/c we will probably get it after you.
Tech, If I were you I would get the 2 & 3 mile tapes in lieu of the 1 mile. You can always stop half way through. The 3 mile isn't terribly hard to do. I like it the best.
Monet, I don't think communicating rationally goes with kids. Good luck. We had stuffed shells last week and I really enjoyed them.
Woodfrogs, Sounds like youdid the best you could with the choices you were given. Sometimes it is just impossible.
Nat, Glad Britt is feeling better. Great deal on the music study. Hope you win the other $60.
Have a great evening.
Ellen 01-27-2005, 07:02 PM CAMP: Welcome! What was your name when you were on before? I think I might remember you! This is the best way to eat for diabetes...my doctor recommends it to all his diabetic patients, and follows it himself.
Not much going on here..the shells are in the oven and I need to go throw together a salad. I am not feel very motivated, even though I need to leave here in about 30 minutes. :(
Will check in later...
Teensybean 01-27-2005, 09:13 PM Good afternoon sugar buster's....
Well, I don't know where to start. I am so depressed...... I got on the scales this morning and I am right back up there at 170 again. What is the matter with me......I am eating right, and doing extra exercise, and getting no where. I just feel like a failure. Like it is not worth the effort anymore. I have 28 good days of being 100% on plan, exercise at the least 4 days a week and as much as 6 days a week with morning and evening workouts. I have been entering all my foods into Fitday and cant get the scales to budge. I know that I am eating healthy, but come on.......it is getting to be very depressing....... sorry gang, I don't want to be a whiner, but looks like I am today......
Menu
1/2 grapefruit 1/2 hour before....
B--
3 small strips bacon
1/2 c Fiber One, 1/4 c ff milk, 1 Splenda, 1 tsp cinnamon
Lite 85 yogurt
snack--apple
L--
5.2 oz grilled chicken breast, cut up
1 oz cheddar
WW lc wrap, lettuce, tomato, 2 tsp mustard, 1/2 T lite mayo
Lite 85 yogurt
snack-- orange
D-- will be....
ground round, grilled
cauliflower
greenbeans
1/2 c sf Jello with 4 T lite whipped cream
water-- 128 oz.
Monet-- Thanks, but it sure didn't show up this morning. Geeesh this sure is frustrating. You would think that something has to give......You sure don't need another 40 hour per week job, what you do with all the cooking takes up that much and more. The ice cream sounds great, is it Asian too??
Tech-- I really hate shopping with dh. My youngest son is just as bad. I took him Christmas shopping two years ago......never again. Now I make him go with dh or alone!! I love to stop and see what is on sale, and what new shoes are out. My downfall is shoes.....my Mom teases me all the time about the time I spend in the shoe store. LOL. Now I have a niece who just started working at Pay Less Shoes, wooo hooo, I am doing the happy dance......
Jackie-- Sorry your plans fell through. Joe Nichols would have been great to see. But you will have a good time at dinner. WTG on the exercise and staying on plan!!
Pancho-- I may be on my way, but the question is to what?? It sure isn't seeing the scales move in a downward trend...... sorry, but I am very frustrated today. Thanks for all the kudos...... hope Britt will make a fast recovery.
Toni-- I am sure glad that everything turned out okay with your test. Take it easy for a few days. Have fun with your friend, but please don't overdo, kay??
Woods-- Your walk in the woods sounds great, I love to wander around in the boonies. I used to take all three of my dogs. We would wander for hours. Then Bazal got too sick to go, so we sorta gave it up. I am going to take them again this spring when Buddy's leg has healed. If it ever does.....You did just great at your meeting. Hurrah for you!!
Campmaster.....Welcome!! Hope to see you posting again, and have great success on you weight loss journey.
That's it folks....
techwife 01-27-2005, 10:29 PM Just a quick fly-by for Teensy...
:grouphug:
My heart aches for you...all that time on the bike and nothing? Wow...that IS depressing. A few things to consider:
Are you losing inches? Are you adding muscle mass, which is heavier than body fat? With the extent of the exercising your doing, the scale could be measuring a leaner, stronger body!! I'm never going to say you should lay off the exercising...that is just so beneficial to a healthier you. But check your waistband...you may just be on a plateau (with a slight slant going up...), but still losing the bad stuff! Keep up the hard work...even if it's not showing up in pounds lost, its still having a positive impact on your heart and general health and well being!!
Here's hoping that plateau starts to slant in the downward position soon!!
Kris
OH...and also...I'd check the ingredients in the SF jello...I think it has bad things in it...especially for one of the last things you eat as dessert with dinner. Try this for desert...get some skim milk ricotta cheese and mix a capful of vanilla in a half cup of ricotta...you have to use COLD ricotta and eat it right way...its like tapioca!! And every inch legal!! :D
fruitloupe 01-27-2005, 11:35 PM Hey Y'all!
This has absolutely nothing to do with SB - but I need your help and encouragement with a decision that I made today.
Last week at our adoption meeting one of the leaders told me about twins, 2 months old, that were taken out of a home due to severe physical abuse. The boy was on life support and the girl in the hospital with broken ribs, etc.
Well, today I get a call, they offer the kids to me and Terry. BUT - the boy is 80% going to have major problems - he had major head injuries. He will more than likely be severely handicapped. They aren't sure about the girl yet - she APPEARS to be normal.
Well, we turned them down - we didn't feel that we could provide the care that will be needed by the children. The boy already needs physical & resperatory therapy once a week. We just thought that with a child with such needs - it needs to be in a home with at least one stay at home parent - which we just can't do.
On the other hand, we were like - they are both infants (which is rare through the state), a boy and a girl, and parental rights are already in the process of being terminated.
Did we make the right decision?
After all, it's the child's needs that are more important here - not ours.
Please let me know your thoughts. I know that the people at the office will keep us on the top of their list - we are good friends with a lot of them. We were the first ones that they thought of today. Actually, one of them pulled me aside and said to REALLY THINK about this before you make a decision because they will be a tough couple. Twins are hard enough - especially when they have special needs.
OK - talk to you soon!
Missy
Ellen 01-27-2005, 11:36 PM TEENSY: Go get your thyroid checked. It may be that it is developing a problem. It goes hand in hand with perimenopause, and it stinks, but it might at least give you something to go on. I can really feel for you... you are NOT a failure! Gosh, look how far you have come! Failure? Look at me! I AM a failure! I have not made ANY progress in six years! You on the other hand have done so awesome...you need to be proud of yourself. I am proud of you, we all are! <<hug>>
Ellen 01-27-2005, 11:45 PM FRUIT: We were posting at the same time. You probably made the right decision. If you did not feel like it was the right ones, then it probably wasn't. Those kinds of special needs are something that can drain you, and with twins, well, I think you made the right decision. I have a friend who adopted sisters who were special needs kids. Her life has been turned upside down and it almost destroyed her marriage. They ended up having to send the older sister into special boarding school to deal with her problems. It broke her heart. I would hate to see you with a broken heart like that. Good things come to those who wait, the Bible says.... I am praying for you. God knows just the right child for you and your hubby...and will bring it to your arms at the right time...and I firmly believe you will KNOW its the right one!
techwife 01-28-2005, 12:07 AM Missy - don't sweat it...you made the right choice. You seem to know the people at the agency pretty well, and they'll keep you up on if anyone scoops the little ones up...and, since they're little babies, I'm sure someone that has the capacity to take care of a special needs child will pounce on them. And then as you get to hear more about them, then maybe you'll want to rearrange your life to take them in if you decide to later on. Always better to err on the side of caution in a situation like this. I agree...twins sound so wonderful and precious...but in reality...healthy twins are way more than a handful...much less ones with special needs. As long as they're up for adoption, though, you can still change your mind, but once you commit, you commit. I think you've done the right thing, Missy. Try not to loose too much sleep...and they're already apparently in much better hands now even before being adopted...poor lil honeys!!
Good night everyone!!
Kris
GatorGal 01-28-2005, 02:15 AM Well, test was OK, but I think I made an error or two. It's phonetics, and we use the international phonetic alphabet to write out sentences. It's easy to get the sounds confused. It's almost a scientific approach to learning how to pronounce French correctly. But interesting.
Pancho, hope your little girl gets all better soon. Just hang in there and eat faithfully the SB way and you'll get back to 120.
I'm typing this late because I couldn't sleep. So I got up and came to the computer. I remember when I'd go to the TV! But that generally is boring.
Fruit--Raising children is HARD. I remember when we were waiting on adopting, I thought that my desire for children would help me be such a great Mom. But there was a day 20 years later when I actually told my DH that if I had known it would be this hard, I don't think I would have made the choice to have kids. I know that sounds pretty bad, doesn't it. I'm telling you this so that you will know to think things through rationally. Don't bite off more than you can chew. You've chosen a path; so don't make any big detours. With two children that will need a lot of care and especially bonding and TIME-TIME-TIME to know that they are loved (after what they've been through), you probably made a good decision. My DH's secretary (she job shares with another secretary--he has two that share the week) adopted a special needs child (he had attachment disorder) and it took TONS of work and time just to get him somewhat normal. So, again, probably the right decision. When you don't have to work any more and already have one or two kids at home, then you can, perhaps, make the choice to take on the ministry of parenting special needs children.
Food for today:
Breakfast: Shredded wheat with nectarine and sk. milk
Snack: one fresh apple
Lunch: melted cheese sandwich with onion and tomato and crisp cooked bacon on it, stir fried broccoli, 1/2 grapefruit.
Dinner: 3 oz ground beef made into meat balls, 1 small potato (creamer size), carrots and onions cooked like stew veggies, peas and tomatoes. (it was a one skillet meal) That probably wasn't SB but I had a very small plate. In fact, I am now hungry.
Didn't get my 10000 steps in today. I had a friend come over and install a computer program and that took a couple of hours. Then the drive to class, class, etc. I park off campus and walk and that gives me a couple of miles. Then this afternoon, I got home about 2, so I was hungry for lunch. We worked out with weights at the gym after my DH got home.
Well, I might try going back to bed. Nite.
groovia 01-28-2005, 09:44 AM Hi- I posted a few weeks ago to say that I'm back (from summer '03) but then have been MIA lately.
Rest assured, I have not jumped ship. I've been frustrated as all heck, but super busy and online chatting is a luxury I can't afford right now. But, I have managed to get over here this morning to share something.
A few weeks ago, my weight was 196.? and then slowly it started creeping up to the 200s again. 201, 203, 200. Man, I was freaking out. Not TOM or anything like that.
Because I had just "started" SB, I wasn't too worried about portions and fat content, but concentrated on just staying legal. I also had a major thing for Breyers NSA low carb ice cream, which is 4g of sugar per serving and I'm sure I was eating like 2-3 servings at a time. (Come on, 2/3 of a CUP of ice cream? I can't deal with that.) So, I figured I would stall, not gain.
Anyhow, over the last week, I eliminated the ice cream, and hovered around 198. Also, I'd been eating a 2 egg omelette with cheddar cheese and 3 sausage links for breakfast (from my Atkins days) so I switched to oatmeal with berries this week, and this morning, 196.0!
Yee haw!
I'm sure it has a lot to do with water... not retaining so much if I'm not eating a lot of sodium at breakfast.
So, moral of the story, avoid Breyers ice cream and eat low sodium.
Kelly
techwife 01-28-2005, 10:07 AM GROOVIA: WooHoo!! You're on your way, Chicka!! I know, I love that low carb ice cream...one of the brands puts out a flavor that involves turtles in the name...dee lish!! But it's probably a no-no on SB...maybe no 'sugar' per se, but probably some other things that aren't good. I know, on the label they mention that it has 14 g of sugar alcohol...I'm guessing that's bad... :( BUT, glad to see you're seeing results!!
:dancer: :cp: :dancer: :cp: :dancer:
GATOR: French! I don't know how you do it...I was not meant to learn a second language. I took Spanish in college and dropped out in the first semester...I had a very mean Cuban woman for a teacher and couldn't see spending my own hard-earned money to be yelled at and not taught by some woman with anger issues....I decided that if I didn't learn to speak it at a toddler, then I'm just not going to be able to speak it. I can dicipher Spanish if I read it, but to come up with a sentence on my own and speak it fluently, it's just over my head. And Spanish is relatively easy to learn... French? No way...
Welcome Campmaster!!
Still cold. Did my Air Dyne this morning...was done by 7am!! Just in time for coffee...
Time for Breakfast!! Kris
Solly 01-28-2005, 10:13 AM TGIF!
This is going to be quick and probably the only time I'll be on here today. I have a presentationdue at 4:30 and just found out about it at 5:00 yesterday. UGH!
Did not get any exercise in last night. I had to stay late at work (due to the presentation) and got home just in time to meet our friends for dinner. I don't know if I could have worked out or not I was so tired.
Dinner was not great. Everything was fried, chicken, fish, shrimp, etc. At least the cod was very lightly breaded. They were out of veggies so I had a salad, fish and onion rings (only ate 3 small ones). I was very disappointed. I only had 1 glass of wine though. Bad thing is, tonight wiill be fish again and DD wants to go to Red Lobster on Sunday for her birthday. Oh well, I do love it.
Teensy, I know it is frustrating, but hang in there. I am experiencing the same thing this week. After Wed the scale has inreased a pound a day. I have been OP and exercising. I am attributing it to the wt of the food or something else. No way can it be fat that quickly. It does depress you though. Don't eat anything foolish it will only compound the problem. I bet you see a big drop in a day or two.
Missy, that's a decision only you can make. But try to be sensible in your thought process. Sometimes how much you want a baby clouds your judgement. If you feel that these children would take more time and money then you can provide, it was probably the best decision. Raising twins would be hard and the added handicaps would be tough to deal with working full time. I know how badly you want a child and it is scarry to wonder if another one will come along soon. Just discuss it with Terry and pray to God about it. Sorry I don't have anymore wisdom to offer. Sounds like everyone else has some good insight and advice for you. You are still in my prayers.
Gator, you probably did better on your test then you think.
Groovia, welcome back. Glad you figured out what was causing your gain. Have a great weekend.
So today I am eating salad, and will have to get the rest of my owrkouts in on Sat and Sunday.
Got to get busy. Have a great weekend.
GatorGal 01-28-2005, 12:04 PM Monet--I was thinking about the difficulty you had remembering to wear your pedometer. One way to help remember is to put your pedometer somewhere where you go every morning. Like on top of your underwear. If you change your underwear every morning (Ha ha, LOL :) ) then you will see it there on top of what you are going to put on and just clip it on right then. Or how about right next to your toothbrush. I take my watch off every night so I leave my pedometer right next to it. Then in the morning when I put my watch back on, I clip the ole pedometer on too. Just a thought.
Missy--Howr'ya doin'?
Jackie--I'll let you know next week how I did on the test. I'll probably get it back on Tuesday.
Gotta go to the school now. Bye.
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 01-28-2005, 01:27 PM AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!!!
Wednesday was good......Thursday was good....but today sucked!!!! I had to leave and come home at 11 a.m. The pain under my knee cap was so intense that I couldn't get comfortable in my chair...I have one of those metal mesh chairs, and there is NO GIVE TO IT!!! Since I can't take any pain medication at work, I had no choice but to come home. It feels like a jack hammer working at full speed under there! HOPEFULLY....the weekend will give me the last bit of R&R that I need.
MISSY.... You know, like you, I have no children. I know how much you and Terry want a baby....I think you made the right choice not to get the twins. While you would have more than enough love to give these two children, I just don't think you are ready for the care that they would require. The right children will come along and when they do, you will be ready.
I'm sorry I can't reply to people right now, but I've got to prop my leg up...I'll be back later
BOB
Ellen 01-28-2005, 02:24 PM Its been a rather busy day so far, and its not over yet! Went to Curves, then to the new huge Asian market with Laura. Got |
