Debelli 11-29-2004, 06:48 AM GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!
Here's this weeks
MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY thoughts for you all to start the week with - was hard to find something worthwhile to print this week, but here you go! :)
http://members.aol.com/debelli/monday_morning_thought.jpg
BECOME THE PERSON
There is a life you want to live. To experience that life, become the person who will live it.
If the circumstances of your life are not yet what you desire, there is a reason. It is because you have not yet become the person you desire to become.
The outer circumstances of your life will change for the better precisely to the extent that you change for the better inside. Become the person who can live your dream, and that dream will become real.
You cannot directly control everything in the world around you, but there is no need for that anyway. By controlling your own thoughts, feelings and actions, you can bring about anything you truly desire.
Success grows from the inside out. That's why you'll never be fulfilled by merely acquiring the tokens of success.
Become successful on the inside, to the point where the superficial tokens of success do not matter. And you will surely have more than you could ever desire.

PLEASANTLY SURPRISED
Out there beyond what you know you can do, a pleasant surprise awaits. Out beyond your comfort zone, there is a precious treasure waiting to be mined.
Almost every skill you now possess was once beyond your abilities. Every place where you now feel comfortable and at home, was once unknown to you.
There are more things that you can do, higher levels that you can reach. Though they seem a little intimidating from where you are now, they can soon be comfortable and familiar.
Push yourself a little bit beyond what you know you can do. And you'll discover something truly empowering.
You'll discover that you can indeed step forward into unknown territory, and you'll uncover valuable treasures you never knew you were missing. Your levels of confidence and competence will grow beyond anything you could have previously imagined.
Push yourself a little bit beyond where you are now. And you'll be pleasantly surprised with where it takes you.

Debelli 11-29-2004, 07:25 AM Wooh! I was worried! I had a tough time getting the new weekly boards up and running. Have to contact SUSAN to ask her what's going on. Every time I tried to post the board, either one, I got an error message, so I would just try to refresh the page and / or go back and hit the post button again, but each time I kept getting a message that a post of the same name was posted within the last 5 minutes. Went and checked, no post! Keep trying and trying, nada:nono: NOT what I wanted, getting frustrated at 5am, sure not the way that I wanted to start my Monday morning:rolleyes:
Finally, I decided to misspell the posts headers - that worked, but then I had to go back and edit them, but it finally worked. Whew!
So, now I am here and do have a few minutes before LAUREN gets up and we both have to get ready and she gets taken to school. So, a short post while I have some time and absolutely NOTHING else to do - okay, that's a lie, but nothing that I have to do at this exact moment that can't wait.
I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving, ours was uneventful and the food sorta sucked. The gathering gets smaller each year as the elders start leaving us. I was upset that my GF couldn't be with us, the first time in my life. It was a bit of a fiasco. First, he couldn't come because my Uncle couldn't find a transport service to bring him to the house, THEN, 2 days before TG we find out he found a service to bring him - I was so happy:D Then that same Tues. night, he's put in the hospital, chest pains that the nitro won't help. Told Wed. morning he won't be getting out of the hospital, can't come to TG. Find out Wed. night, he's sprung. Aunt calls the transport service to tell them they are needed again (after cancelling before). TG day - find out that morning, GF can't go, if he leaves the rehab place, Medicare will stop - can't do that, it's his lifeline - Aunt cancels transport for the second time (they think she's nuts) and he misses out on TG - sad  We all went to see him that day. He actually looked better than when I saw him on his BD (which isn't saying much if you knew the situation, but any sign of him looking better is happily taken).
I think this was the first time I've missed MICHAEL, but have to say, once I got home and saw my clean home, it passed;) I can't believe he'll be home in just 3 weeks!
I think I have been railroaded to having everyone over for New Years Day:fr: Okay, I'm not so worried about the house being in order, that would be easy with the way things have been, but it's motivating me to want to have my garage sale before I had planned. Patio looks bad, lots of crap out there for a future garage sale, and I'm thinking about doing it before the holidays. This would mean starting now - I need a lot of time to set it up prior to the event - lots of stuff to go through. Whatever doesn't sell, I'm posting a message on the FREECYCLE boards in my area that the following day, any thing that is remaining, anyone can come and get for FREE! If you don't know about FREECYCLE.ORG, check it out, there may be one in your area! Nothing will be held back - The only crap that will be put out on the patio will be stuff for future garage sales, and that should accumulate slowly after this.
BLACK FRIDAY - hope those of you who braved the crowds were successful in what you were searching for. I was up at 4am - nothing unusual for me these days. My friend DEBBY actually got her butt out of bed and went with me - mind you, this is a woman who can sleep til 1pm, as she proved yesterday AND take afternoon/evening naps - so this was a big feat for her and a shock for me that she really showed up! Well, I created a monster! When she saw how I shop, she couldn't believe it. Of course, she knows how I shop second hand, but seeing it firsthand, up close and personal on a mega base, she was astounded! She figured out that she saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars - I didn't do to shabby myself;) Oh, the deals I got! They got better - esp. on the digital cameras I got! Okay, here's just one of the deals...bought 3 Kodak cx7300 digital cameras. Don't know what the gal did, but I had her price match the one I got at Circuit City, which was cheaper. I also got a 128mb SD card as well. NOW, without going in to a blow-by-blow description, I was charged $34.99 + tax. That's for a digital camera AND the SD card! Okay, now, there's also a $10 rebate on the SD card that I have to mail in, so technically, the camera and SD card will end up costing me about $30 with taxes! Wish the other two I had bought were such a bargain, but hey, averaging them out, trust me, I did good:yes: The first one was $99 total, but has a $25 gift card, so technically, $75. I LOVE BARGAINS!
My mission this week, my closet! OMG, it's like a packed stockroom - I don't know what I have in there, but I have to get it cleaned out. Gifts I bought long ago that I put away and never gave (like crayons that say LAUREN) need to be purged and either put away for future in a way to find it easier, or if it's no longer age appropriate, sold at the garage sale. Trying to put them in big plastic containers is my goal, by who it's intended for, in hopes it will make things easier in the future. I buy all year round, so come this time of year, I usually only really have to get a few items. It has it's pros and cons.
Okay, well, I do have to skiddadle. I have to get LAUREN up, she's not yet and it's about 15 minutes before we have to leave.
I hope you all have a wonderful week. Will check in if I can - will be busy trying to clean the closet AND wrap presents - Chanukah is next week:eek: and I haven't wrapped the kids presents yet, though I do have time for MICHAEL since he won't be here during the time, so it's LAUREN, ELI, PARENTS & SISTER really. All others, which won't be til New Years, if I decide to be brave enough to do it, they once again, like TG will get a bag of coffee. Does anyone remember what happened NYD a few years ago?????:?: And they STILL want to come to my house!

GatorGal 11-29-2004, 10:14 AM Checking in early today. I lost a pound last week. The weight ticker runs all the numbers together because it is so close. I guess I'll have to lose a bunch more weight before it will look right.
I have a busy day: The man who is gonna rebuild our waterfalls that were damaged when the tree fell on them during one of the hurricanes is coming in about 20 min., I have a lot of laundry to do, some studying to do, I want to finish 3 angel costumes for our church Christmas play, do some more studying, and leave to have dinner with my DH and go to class by 5:30.
So, I'd better get crackin'. Have a great SB day everyone.
PS, Where is SEF? Anyone called her?

Ellen 11-29-2004, 10:36 AM Good Morning! I just finished breakfast! Two ww waffles with Walden Farms no sugar, no carbs, no calories, no flavor pancake syrup! Gosh that stuff is awful! The waffles, however, are awesome!
I slept very poorly. I woke up at 1:30 and could not sleep, so I went into the office and played in Tom's computer until after 4. Then I crawled back in bed, and finally feel asleep about 4:30. I woke up at 6 when Tom got up and again at 7:15 when he left. I then slept until about 8:30. This insomnia is awful. I will be out of it all day long.
GATOR: Yay for the pound! Progress is progress....I don't dare get on the scale after last night...we went out after church to a pizza place with a bunch of folks. Need I say more? I too have been wondering where SEF is.
DEB: Its good to see you post. I am sorry your Thanksgiving did not include your grandfather. There is a Judy Collins song about growing up and becoming like the adults we looked up to as kids. I often think of that song when I look around me and see how much my life has changed. Do you have SEF's number? Can you call and see if she is ok? She has not posted for several weeks, and I am kind of worried about her.
I will check back later....
Pancho 11-29-2004, 12:16 PM Good Monday morning:
I hope everyone got off on the right foot this Monday after Thanksgiving. I'm doing good so far.
I have been off-plan since Wed., but haven't overdone anything. I weighed 120#'s this morning, so I maintained over the Holiday, which is always my goal.
I read most of the posts last week, but couldn't possible catch up with everyone, so I will start posting replies from this week.
Wednesday, I went to my DD's school to help out with Grandparents Day. I got there at 10 a.m., and we left at noon. Britt, my niece and I went to see the Polar Express at the IMAX theatre....man, you really feel like you are a part of the movie with that technology; it had been many years since I had seen a movie at Imax. I then had to drive my niece home (in terrible traffic), go by my sister's and pick up the turkey and then drive home. Britt and I didn't get home until after 6 p.m., and I still had cleaning to do, and baking. I was up until nearly midnight, and then up early on Thanksgiving as well. My parents, niece and my sister and family all came over for dinner (12 total). Everything turned out great. I put a lot of finger foods out so everyone could snack and not be so ravenous when dinner rolled out (around 2:30-3:00). After everyone left and we got everything cleaned up, it was around 7 p.m., and time to get the kids cleaned up and to bed.
Friday: I went out and fought the crowds. I didn't get up real early and stand in any lines....I figured if what I want is gone when I got there, oh well! My DH wears Levi's 501's and they usually go for $46. I got him some for $31. I also got another pair of jeans for myself for $15. I got my DH the Seinfeld DVD's also, and a DVD for the kids. I had fun getting out on my own.
We also got our Christmas tree up this weekend. We ALWAYS get a live tree, but my parents gave us their artificial tree a few years ago, so we thought we'd just pull it out and see what it looked like (we could save $50-$80 by not buying a fresh one). It's actually a beautiful tree. It stands about 7 feet high and is very wide and full of big beautiful branches. I'm afraid we might get spoiled with the no watering, no pine needles all over everything, etc...But, I want to still get a real tree some years. It also has a rolling stand, so we were able to decorate it in the middle of the floor, and then roll it into place.
Of course, the elves made a visit to our house and brought gifts for the kids; they always seem to come by the night we put up our tree.
We went to the outlet mall near us yesterday, they have the tallest tree in the state; it's even taller than the one at Times Square in New York. It's hard to imagine that there are living trees like that; it is beautiful. Delaney (2-yr old) went right up to Santa and sat on his lap. Brittany (my 6-yr old) stood outside and waited. She has never liked Santa. I have one picture of her with Santa (when she was 9 months old).
Anyhow....I plan to get to the gym this afternoon....if Lane gets her nap and cooperates with me.
Deb: Thanks for starting the boards; sorry they were such trouble for you today....glad you perservered. I'm so glad you were all able to go see your GF; it would have been so sad to think of him spending Thansgiving totally alone. What a fiasco. I cannot believe the bargain you got on that digital camera...you go girl!!
Gator: So good to see your posts again; you were missed. It sounds as if you have a busy day ahead.
Monet: For my waffles/pancakes...I mix dark agave with light agave and sprinkle with some cinnamon. The entire family now eats them that way. I really like it. I sure hope you can get some sleep soon; it's gotta be taking a toll on your body. I could not find the Smart Balance shortening at my Super Wal-Mart; I'll have to check some of my local grocers; maybe some of the bigger health food stores.
Well, I gotta run.
Have a great OP day!!
Nat
Toni48 11-29-2004, 12:33 PM Good morning. Its raining cats and dogs here in old Missouri. I think its been raining all night. At least its not snow! We've got a nice fire going in our wood stove so all is cozy. I think its making me kind of lazy this morning. I hate I have to miss my walk outside and might have to fire up the treadmill. I also need to bite the bullet and get on the scale and get it over with. Here it is Monday and I have a choice to start my week off OP or not. I'm going to choose this is a new week and I want to be OP and quit fooling around. I'm making a mess of the holidays by my bad eating habits and need to straighten that out right now!!! I've got some gifts to wrap for the mail this week. I sure do hate to mail things. But I'll get this done and it will be one less thing.
Debilli- Its so good to hear from you. Sounds like you've got it under control if you're going to clean a closet out. I sure need to do mine. Wish there was some way to have a garage or patio sale here in the winter. I've got so much stuff I'd like to get rid of. Sorry your GF couldn't come TG. But its good he's looking better and you all could go see him.
Pancho- You do so well with your eating. You're such a hero and an example of maintaining. It sounds like it was fun at your house this week end with the tree and the elves. We got our little Charley Brown Tree up an a few things under it too.
Gator- Its so good to "read" you and congradulations on the pound. Way to go gal!!!! I hope the guy gets your waterfalls all built today and they look super....
Monet- I'm so sorry you're have trouble sleeping. I know that has to be miserable. Hopefully it will get better soon. I'm in such envy of your ww waffles. It would probably take 20 years to get them back here in Missouri.
Guess I'm going to go make some breakfast now. I'm a little late on that this morning. Have a great day everyone....
Solly 11-29-2004, 12:37 PM Good morning Ladies,
Hope everyones TG was great. Mine was legal except for 1T of dressing. My SF pies turned out great. The chocolate one was scarfed up quickly. Only had 1 pc of pumpkin left too. Headed out early Friday shopping with my girls. They have to pick everything out. Could never suit them. I hate that they don't have any surprises. My youngest has a few things on her list that I can get w/o her. Did get lots done. Missed out on the digital camera that Target ran for $97.00 4.0mp. Oh well. Will just have to watch the adds until Xmas. Did great eating while shopping Friday. Friday night went to H**L. Had 2 pcs of pizza and some nacho chips. Sat was ok other than a few chips. yesterday was legal other than a blizzard from DQ & 2 tiny cookies. Now I know I wasn't totally legal, but the scale this morning was up 10 lbs. I don't think that is quite justified. I was totally devasted. I haven't had any water pills since Thursday, so maybe that is part of it. So I took 3 today. I hate that scale.
Deb, sorry your GF missed TG. It seems each year there is someone missing from our holidays. I hate getting older. I even hate that my DD has to go to her in-laws and can't spend the whole day with us. Should have married an orphan. Sounds like you have more cleaning to battle. Good luck. Great deals on Friday. I missed the Target digital camera.
Monet, sorry you are having such a time sleeping. Gotta cut out those naps during the day maybe. But it is hard when you don't sleep at night. Have you tried Tylenol PM or anything else?
Pancho, I want to see the Polar Express. We don't get to movies much. Also heard Christmas with the Kranks is halarious. Wegot all of our decorating done this weekend too. That's the good t hing about artifical trees. I miss the smell of pine, but it beats the cleanup.
Got to get busy. Lots of work when you are off for 4 days and your boss isn't. Hae a great day.
Solly 11-29-2004, 12:54 PM Gator, oops! I didn;t mean to leave you out. Congrats on the lb. Hope you get your yard all back together. I know it has really upset you being torn apart like that. Sorry your TG was so horrible. Kids..gotta love them or else. Nothing you can do but pray like Monet said. One day they will realize.
Toni, it is supposed to rain here again tonight and tomorrow and Wed. It has been raining for 3 weeks. I'm sick of it. I'm with you, lets make it a OP week and month. I have no problem during the week, it's those weekends that kill me.
kengjw 11-29-2004, 04:05 PM Hi everyone,
I have been at the dentist this morning. My final quandrant is finally done. My gums are healing well but I will have to do fillings on 2 teeth and pull out all my wisdom teeth which I am perfectly fine with them. I am just glad I can start maintaining what I am blessed with instead of destroying them (by not going to the dentist for so many years...lol).
Dh is off today so I won't spend too much time here now but just want to let you guys know where I am. Monet, I bought the ww waffles from Publix and had them for breakfast this morning. I have to agree that they are great. Yes, not exactly like your regular not-so-healthy ones but I think that they are great for whole wheat. I am happy with them. Jess thanked me so much for giving her waffles ....lol. She hasn't has one for a while now :)
I am hoping we will do something later today but not sure what yet. Anyway, I will try to get online tonight. Good day everyone!
Julia
Ellen 11-29-2004, 06:18 PM Afternoon! Not much going on here. I went for a nice walk this afternoon, and took a shower. Other than that, I can't tell you much about what I did today! :o
I need to go shopping tonight...I need a bunch of stuff. I am hoping I can talk Mr. Tom into going with me to Harry's/Whole Foods, and Publix. I am not sure I will be successful, but I am hoping.
Will check in later!
KENG: I am glad you liked the waffles! I think they are awesome! Probably just because I have been looking for some for ages! :)
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 11-29-2004, 07:55 PM EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!
Had to go to the DOC this afternoon about my hand. He has now taken me out of work for TWO WEEKS!!! In that time, I have 12 sessions of occupational therapy. He said there is a cluster of nerves at the site of my IV that control the flow of blood into the fingers. The needle evidently damaged these nerves. The "bird" finger takes the brunt nerve wise when there is damage. I can't begin to tell you how much this hurts!
JULIA...Did you see my post yesterday about the antibiotics? If not, PLEASE go back and read it! I absolutely hate deep cleanings! Be careful with those wisdom teeth...I'll keep all fingers and toes crossed for no dry sockets!
GATOR...be sure to post pictures when the waterfall is complete...it was so pretty before and there is little room for better!
MONET...my WHOLE FOODS opens up on the 8th....can't wait! It's gonna be huge and I'll be able to spend hours in there!
JACKIE...sorry you missed that camera...but like you said...watch the ads...someone will have a good deal!
TONI...rain UGH!!! You can do OP....if you slip, just yell for the wagon!
NAT...sounds like you've had a busy weekend! Thanks for the info on Polar Express..I want to see that at the movie...it's one that will be good at home, but BETTER at the movies!
DON'T FORGET TO WATCH MISSY'S FAMILY ON WIFE SWAP TONIGHT~~~~
Gotta run...I'm starving!
BOB
Ellen 11-29-2004, 10:18 PM Evening! Tom and I ran over to Wally world...he needed oil for the truck and I needed a few things. I hate that place. I did find a pair of light support panties, that were cheap. They are nice...they are too short though. I may go back and get the Hanes ones that were more long waisted, and over twice the price. The doctor said this may help the swelling in my lower belly.
I got a new cookbook today...its a fruit sweetened, sugar free cookbook. I can't wait to look through it. It was in the mail box as we were leaving. We just got in. I am going to make chili for small group tomorrow night. I never did make it to Harry's or Publix, but did get some of what I needed at Wally world...tomorrow morning, I will go to Harry's then Publix.
BOB: You poor thing! I can't believe you have to deal with this now too. I hope they can get it all better pronto!
Ok, this cook book is calling to me! Later!
Teensybean 11-30-2004, 01:53 AM Hey all-- Feeling a bit better today, had an appetite anyway with no nausea. Still have the headache though.
Here is my menu---
B-- 1/2 c Fiber One with 4 oz strawberries, 1/4 c ff milk, 8 drops liquid Splenda, Lite 85.
Snack--apple
Lunch--Garden salad (romaine lettuce, mushrooms, radishes, cucumber, green onion) with canned chicken, Lite bleu cheese dressing. 1 SF Nips
Snack--apple with 2 T NSA peanut butter.
Dinner--Roast chicken breast with 1/4 c WW stuffing, 2 oz sf cranberries, 1/2 c green beans, 3 oz sweet potato.
Dessert-- 1/2 c sf Jello with light whipped cream.
Hope to get in some replies tomorrow, am also hoping to get some exercise in. Have missed since Friday.
Ellen 11-30-2004, 10:12 AM Good morning! Not much happening here...I had two waffles and bacon for breakfast. I am out of waffles now, so I am planning a trip to Publix for more!
I slept ok last night, and this morning, the belly swelling is much better. I think there is some truth to walking being the only thing that helps. So I will endeavor to get in a walk today, even though I have tons to do and the weather has turned gray again.
The fruit sweetened cookbook I got is wonderful! I am going to look at Harry's/Whole Foods this morning for some of the ingredients they recommend. One is a fruit concentrate sweetner made from pears, pineapple and peaches. I know the pineapple is not legal, but I am hoping this stuff will work for the rest of the family. They also tell you how to make the right concentration using frozen fruit concentrate...like 100% apple juice. If I can't find the stuff, I will try making my own. I will keep you all posted...and share any good recipes. The author of the book is the chef at the Ranch House in Corwin Springs, Montana, right near Yellowstone. They serve all these NSA desserts at that place...makes me want to go there bad! I have always wanted to see Yellowstone as it is!
I will check back in later...I need to go investigate the odd noises I am hearing. Having three kittens is worse than having two two year olds, I swear!
Solly 11-30-2004, 10:25 AM Good Morning Ladies
Had my monthly checkup at the oncologist yesterday. He said I was pretty as a princess. I think that is what he said. he was foreign and I had to really listen to understand what he was saying. He was cute. He even hugged me when he left. Everything was good. Don't have to go back for 3 months.
On the way home, I noticed my arms were hurting at the shoulder, both arms. Don't know why. He and the Rheumatologist think I may have fibromalgia. Anyway, as the night went on, my left arm is killing me. Today I can hardly lift my arm. Both started hurting, but only one hurts now. Go figure. Getting old sucks. I am having a heck of a time pulling up my tights today. Told my co-worker she was going to have to go to the bathroom with me and pull them up for me. :fr:
On a good note, I did walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes and 20 mintues of wt training. All meals were legal yesterday.
Bob, off for 2 weeks? Will you have ajob to go back too? I'm surprised they couldn't give you something for that along with PT. Vitamin B6 should help, can't hurt. Hope you are better soon. Hope the office that srewed up the IV will pay for the PT. Ha.
Monet, Let us know ifyou find anythign exciting in that new cookbook. I got some ww waffles at Whole Foods (can't remember the brand). They were pretty good.
Ken, Sounds like lots of dental work. I don't envy you.
Teensy, glad you are feeling some better. There is a nasty virus going around. A co-worker had it too.
Got to run. Hope to check back later.
livinginthesticks 11-30-2004, 11:39 AM I am new to sugarbusters and have read that any questions should be posted on the weekly support board thread...have been somersizing for 3 months or so and had good success (food combining as well as low sugar, no flour). Am feeling great and have dropped around 10 lbs. I don't have a lot to lose but would like to lose another 5-7 lbs. This program is somewhat the same as somersizing but had a reality check at the doctor's a couple of week ago. My cholesterol is up nearly 30 points!! Yikes!! My triglyceredes (spelling) were very low which is good but the bad cholesterol was up 25 points. So...am looking to do the low sugar, no flour way of eating but just using lower fat. I consume a lot of cheese and pepperoni as well as red meat so that's probably where the increase in cholesterol comes from.
I've read that grains should be limited to 3 servings per day? Is that correct? Also, am confused about cream and low-fat milk. Are both legal? What about serving sizes? What is a serving of protein? cheese? dairy? grains? I looked through my sugarbusters book a couple of times last night and couldn't seem to find that information. Also, if there is a place on this board to find out this, please let me know!
Also, should cheese be low-fat as well as sour cream, cream cheese, etc? Do you count the cheese as just a protein serving or a fat as well?
Sorry for so many questions...any advice is appreciated.
GatorGal 11-30-2004, 12:43 PM Hello all SB losers, :)
Today has been hectic and I have just a few minutes to post. I did not get all my chores finished from yesterday. What I did NOT get done: sewing the angel costumes for the Christmas play and finishing the laundry.
Today I hope to finish the laundry and maybe get one costume sewn. Also, I have already been to my holistic doctor for an electrodermal screening. I have a phone appt. with the doctor herself this afternoon. I also got the oil changed on my car. I still have my appt. with the student I mentor. That will take an hour and a half. I also need to go buy some new running shoes. Then I hope to do some more studying and cook dinner. I'll have a very busy day.
They are starting to build the waterfalls. They are going to make them bigger than the last ones and use a different kind of rock, a little smoother and big and round, like boulders. They will build lights into the falls, and there will also be a filter back there that will keep the water clearer. Should be pretty.
BOB--Hope you start feeling better soon. I will have to e-mail my pictures of the waterfalls to someone who can resize them to fit onto the board. I never could get this server to take them because they were too big. Who can do this for me?
Monet--The Gators may be playing in the Peach Bowl, but I don't think we will be coming up because the game is on NY eve. We have a party planned for that night. Maybe the next time I have some excuse to get up to Atlanta, we can get together. Too bad the Gators were not in the SEC game up there. :(
Well, don't have time for any more replies. Have to run.
Bye.

Fillise 11-30-2004, 12:55 PM Hey Everyone!
Belle and I got back from NC yesterday. Have been trying to catch up on work and whatnot since I've been gone.
TG was good. All the food turned out well--especially my home-made oyster dressing. Friday Morning my SIL and I were at the mall by 6 am and got in a good day's shopping. I actually think I have most of my gifts either bought or identified. I've got to dig out all the stuff I got in NY and make piles for everyone so I know what all I've got!
Livinginthesticks--Welcome! Ask away-we'll help with anything you want to know. SB is all about no sugar and "good carbs", e.g. whole grains. So it's not "no flour" so much as it is no refined flour. In order to lose most of us have found it best to limit our starchy carbs to 2-3 a day. A serving is 1 slice of bread, 1/2 cup ww pasta or brown rice or whole grain cereal. When you read the labels on grainy food (like bread) you want to make you want to make sure that the grains used say whole wheat or stone ground whole wheat. Without the word "Whole" it's just refined flour, no matter what the produce is called (you'd be amazed at the products that claim to be whole wheat or whole grains that are made out of refined flour). Don't be fooled by the "low carb" labels either. There is no set definition of low carb--read the ingredients. The SB book doesn't advocate counting calories or carbs or fats (some of us have had a hard time with this) the only guidance they give about portion size it that your food should fit on the flat part of your plate. I actually do better when I don't obsess over grams or calories, but others do better with structured guidelines. You need to find what works for you. As for cream or lowfat milk--either is fine on SB. Lowfat milk is probably better for us, but either is fine. Glad to have you on board!
Jackie--Glad you got the good report from the oncologist! Sounds like he thinks you are hot!
Monet--Have fun at Harry's! Glad you are getting out more. At this stage of your recovery the more you do the better you should feel. After 6 weeks or so, I found l needed to step up my activity in order to build up my stamina.
Teensy--Glad you are feeling better!
BOB--Wow! Two weeks--this sounds pretty serious. Make sure you do your rehab! I was worried about UT this weekend--that was cutting it a bit close, don't ya think?
Gator--Welcome back! I'm glad to have you back with us. Sorry to hear that TG was a bummer--the family stuff can be so tricky. I say Christmas in the Bahamas sounds wonderful! If the kids get to make their own choices, so do you and I think you should have a Christmas where you can relax and enjoy the season.
Heart--It will be ok--just get back OP--that's all there is to it!
Keng--Dentist--ICK! I know they are a necessary evil, but you have my sympathies!
Toni--Hey!
Deb--Wanna come clean my house? Sounds like you have a good handle on yours. When will Michael get home for the holidays?
Everyone else--I'll try to get to you later--Have a great OP day!
Susan

heartmom 11-30-2004, 03:43 PM Let me try to get in a couple of replies first..
Deb- You and I would have lots of fun bargain shopping! I'm always looking forward to getting something really cheap, especially if it's something that I need and not just want. I'm sorry that your GF couldn't be with you on TG. My Great-grandmother is still alive and I cherish the holidays having her with us.
Pancho- This will be the only year that I'm NOT putting a tree up. I can't believe it. And I always buy fresh ones. The reason we're not decorating is because we are in the process of buying a house and I don't know if we will have to move before the holidays or what. So I said there isn't any sense in putting everything out and then possibly having to pack it all back up before Christmas.
BOB- I missed the show!! We were at church last night. How did it go?
Jack-k- You know, when I put on a good bit of fluid, I get stiff and achy and non-energetic. That may make things worse.
Monet- yea, if it wasn't for my regular exercising I would have some serious weight gain. I feel more guilty about missing workouts than I do about illegal eating..go figure. Wish it was the other way around.
Alright, I've been doing "okay" the past couple days. Last night we had an illegal supper at church. I had done well with my eating until then. At least I only ate 1 plate. Alot of people went back for seconds. I wanted to but figured since the foods were loaded with sugar not to press my luck. Today is 100% legal. I had yogurt, 2 eggs, and 2 slices bacon with a cup of milk for BF. Just ate a LC momentum bar for my snack about 30 minutes ago. Lunch will be my famous huge tuna salad(tuna, egg, cheese, onions, cukes, and whatever else I can find to chunk in there, topped with Ranch dressing). I'm cooking Mexican meatloaf, green beans, and baked sweet potatoes for supper. Woah, that looks like a huge amount of food now that I put it in writing, lol. Not alot going on right now. I plan on having a yard sale Saturday, spur of the moment decision. I'm getting rid of all my Santa Claus decor and Halloween decor. It no longer goes with my beliefs and no I'm not trying to open the door for a religious debate. Well, at least I don't have to worry about the Halloween candy getting the best of me again, lol. I'm hanging in there still debating if I'm going to weigh tomorrow or not. I'm scared to see what number pops up. I know it won't be good because of what I see in the mirror, my stomach is big. Well, I need to go. Keep on SBering!
Teensybean 11-30-2004, 05:29 PM Hello all-- Manage to get on here during the day!! Yeah.... Woke up to a world of white this morning. Yep, it snowed last night. Not ready for this yet. I wanted to get my Christmas lights up first....darn this flu or whatever is was..... I do not want to be sick this time of year. I have way too much to do. Manage to get a couple of things ordered from Cabela's for the boys today, so that was a large part of my shopping. Will hit the stores probably Thursday.
On to some replies, and then I will post my menu.
Monet-- That cookbook sounds very interesting.....something I would be interested in. Let me know any recipes that you really like.
Jack-k-- Congrats on the check up!! Yes, I am feeling much better today. I guess it is something going around. My Brother, his wife and Mom all came down with it too. Was able to get my exercise in today too. ***Patting both of us on the back***
Living-- Welcome, you picked a great place to come for support and information. Yes, starches should be kept to 2 or 3 per day. I myself use FF milk, but use whipped cream as a dessert topping. SB book doesn't exactly tell you what a portion size is, I usually aim for 4 or 5 oz of protein as a serving. I use cheese sparingly and try to use the FF or LF when I do. Read your nutritional info on the packages and they will tell you how much a serving is. I buy LF or FF on all dairy products. There really isn't any counting on SB. I think the only numbers that I can recall are totals for the day......40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat. Good luck, and this works!!!
Gator-- Your waterfalls sound wonderful. We missed you while you were gone, glad to have you back!!
Fillise-- Glad your holiday trip was a hit....along with all your nice foods....and of course the shopping. I forgot to mention.....Belle is more than welcome to share in the lovely warmth with my little bitty kitty!!
BOB-- Sorry to hear that you are having troubles. Maybe you have misused that finger too many times??? LOL. I hardly ever get on the puter during the day. That is when I do all my chores. Nightime is my play time!!
Mishi-- Welcome back. You were missed. Hang in there and it will happen.
Laurie-- Dinner looks good to me....I think sometimes it just looks like alot because of the combinations. Such as there are alot of ingredients in a salad, but it really isn't alot of food. Don't know if I will brave the scales or not either. I have been back OP for awhile now though, we will have to see if I remember in the morning. Have a great time at exercise class tonight!!
Here is my menu so far--
B--32 g WW toast, 2 T NSA peanut butter, 1 T Smucker's all fruit. Lite 85
Snack-- Blackberries
Lunch-- 5 oz leftover chicken, salad, and I don't know what else.......
Well will be back tonight with the rest of my menu. Chow.....
Ellen 11-30-2004, 05:38 PM Monet is pooped! I went to the credit union, Walgreens, came home for James, took him to work, went to Harry's, the health food store, then Publix. THEN, I had to carry everything I bought in, because no one was home! Don't you know, ten minutes after I dragged the last bag up the two flights of stairs, and was standing there huffing and puffing and my belly aching from too much lifting of heavy things...Laura got home!
Anyway, I could NOT find the fruit sweetener, so I am going to have to order it online. I am not too happy about that. I have a friend who works at Harry's/Whole Foods, and he wrote down the name of the stuff and said he would try to get it in for me.
I have a pot of chili simmering on the stove, and I need to go down and make a batch of oat bran muffins. I feel like I undid all the good I did the last few days in resting and walking. My whole body aches. I hope the belly doesn't balloon up again....
I will try and get back on later for replies!
Solly 11-30-2004, 05:58 PM Gator, you had better get those running shoes first with the sound of yoru day. Can't wait to see the waterfalls.
Mishi, hang in there, it will come.
Bob, didn't see Missy's family. Don't watch that stuff. I thought it was husband swap last night. Would you believe it my shoulder was all better by lunch and it hardly hurst anymore. Go figure. I hope I don't have the fibro either as there is nothing to do for it.
Teensy, good for you exercisng even though you feel poorly. Snow? I'm not ready either. It's going to be a long winter.
Heart, good luck on the scale tomorrow.
Susan, glad you had a good and safe trip.
Monet, you are over doing. I'm going to make chili tonight too.
Living in the sticks, welcome. sounds like you got your questions answered.
Toni48 11-30-2004, 06:45 PM Wow my server has been down and I'm finally able to get back on the computer. I was starting to have withdrawls...... But here "I" is. I'm having trouble with the hungries today. I think starting back OP after a big binge is doing it. Thank goodness I didn't eat sugar. I'll soon be over it. Its rained all day here again and they're calling for maybe some snow flakes later. I hope its just a few flakes. Sorry I can't reply to everyone. I'll do better I'm sure tomorrow....
CountryMom4Him 11-30-2004, 07:52 PM Howdy! My phone lines were down this morning so this is the first time I've had a chance to get on and say hello. Things have been crazy hectic since the beginning of last week. Let's just say the scales are not nice but better than the other day. :)
We have a new addition to our family. Her name is Dixie. A beautiful little blood hound from Alabama. She looks just like the Beverly Hillbilly dog just smaller. She is going to be huge....21 pounds already at 9 weeks old. It's like we've had her forever. She is totally loved and a part of the family already.
My two middle youngins are gone for the first time in years. They are visiting their mama. I truly miss them already and they just left last night. Their baby brother is at a loss. He wanted to go with them...LOL
We too put up our tree this weekend. The place where we get ours is just awesome. The most expensive tree is only 39 dollars. It's been that price as long as I can remember. Jessie picked it out and cut it down. Britt and her fella went with us so it was a super family time.
Monet, Jackie, Colleen and Bob...I hope you are all feeling better. ((hugzz))
Heartmon and Poncho...hey skinny minnies! :)
Welcome livinginthesticks.
Toni....We've been getting tons of rain also. It's so damp and nippy this evening.
Deb...I'm very sorry bout your grampy. Praying for him and your family. Thank you for going to the trouble to get the board up and running.
Julia..are you enjoying driving all around now?
Mishi..hang in there.
My hair is wet so I'm freezing. Guess I'm gonna go and warm up a bit.
Oh I almost forgot...((Gator)) Welcome back from your trip.
Love and hugs,
Crystle
sebray 11-30-2004, 08:30 PM ive been checking my email since sunday and wondering why i havent gotten any mails about people posting on the boards...i kept thinking that y a'll must have been really busy for not even ONE person to post anything....then i just remembered that it was a new week and i hadnt subscribed to this thread
ahh well ... i have been very tempted to weigh myself since yesterday but i know that ill probably just get depressed....trying to get my sleep schedual back on track since i got rid of my cold and i guess its getting better slowly...i have to type up a couple papers for school tonight and i think ill hit the hay after that...
ive got about a gazillion loads of laundry to do and my danged dryer is acting up on me :( stupid cat got fleas and we havent been able to get rid of them and now their biting me  we've treated our room and everywhere the cat goes with flea stuff and now im washing everything all over again ... and we added some flea drops to the cat along with his collar...*sigh* if i cant get rid of these stupid fleas im going to scream...
we lit the fireplace for the first time this year and kevin and the boys roasted marshmellows in it hehe...
im sorry for not replying to everyone but i have put off these stupid papers until the absolute last min :(
im also a bit depressed because i havent been able to walk since TG because of all this stupid stupid rain :(
Ellen 11-30-2004, 11:44 PM Evening...small group went well. They loved the chili and Laura's group of friends showed up to go to the theater with her, and ate up a bunch of it too. I still had a lot left for another meal. Yay!
I am SO tired...I am about to hit the pillows...except my tummy is complaining. The chili feels rather like lead in there. I hope I can sleep tonight.
I am so bummed about not finding the fruit sweetener. They have it at a health food co-op almost downtown, so I will try and get someone to get it for me from there. My kids like to go to the area it is in as its a really cool neighborhood and has really cool shops. (like tattoos, comics, crystals, weird clothes, jewelry...) All the kinds of things young cool people like. sigh.
Tomorrow is my check up with the surgeon who fixed my hernia. After this, I ought to be done with doctors for awhile.
Good night everyone! Sweet dreams!
kengjw 12-01-2004, 02:08 AM Good morning...
It's after 12.am and I just had to come here to at least report myself so that I am not assumed as lost...lol. I fully intended to come here after Jess went to sleep tonight but somehow fell asleep with her when I put her to sleep. When I woke up, it was 10pm and I went back to my bed and thought I would lay down a bit and then off I went again....until 15 mins ago. I woke up starving and decided to have a piece of ww bread with pb and very little jelly. Oh, it tasted so divine, I must be starving...lol.
I went to do some shopping for my FIL and step-MIL this morning. I have been trying to do that for a while but on few ocassions dh wanted to come with me. I really prefer to shop without dh if I can. Driving with him in the car is stressful enough....lol. I started off after 9am and went to 3 stores with Jess. I also get Jess few pieces of clothings for winter and tried to get myself some jeans that I can fit in but didn't find any right ones. I was actually quite disapppointed because I was trying on a very small size and even a junior jeans and didn't like how they look on me. Gosh, I looked small, much smaller than I remember. It was so much easier to find jeans that fits me before I lost the weight. I am not complaining about losing weight, just PMS I guess....lol. I really didn't have much time looking for me anyway so next time maybe I will find more options when I have more time :) Anyway, I bought my MIL a nice glass angel ornament from Pier1. It is a nice cone ornament with painted angel but the angel was painted on the inside of the cone. Inside they have a piece of card to explain how the process was hand-painted and it was so cool. It came with a beautiful box. I also bought FIL a polo-type shirt and a picture frame for both of them. I will put in one of our pics that we took few months back. Dh and I usually don't buy them personal gifts but instead we sent them a food basket from Harrys and David's catelog and a christmas card since they live in FL but since we will be visiting them on Friday, I thought I might as well bring them something plus MIL loves the extra attention :)
So, that was what I have been doing today. I was tired for some reasons so didn't get to do too much today. I need to get the house cleaned before our trip to FL this Friday so I dedicated tomorrow for that :( Okay, I will try to get in as many replies as I can :)
DEB : Sorry your GF didn't manage to join you and your family on TG. I am glad he is fine though.
GATOR : WTG on losing 1 lb last week!! Waterfalls sound beautiful in the yard :)
MONET : I love the ww waffle. Thanks for the tip!! Infact, Jess and I are planning to have waffle again tomorrow morning, errr...actually in 8 hours...lol. Can you imagine, we are planning breakfast the night before...LOL. She said, I want waffle everyday!!
PANCHO : We have artificial tree now. We bought it last year after 2 years of dealing with a real tree. I love the smell of real trees they also comes with pines needles that I have to deal with plus getting dh to go out to look for trees with me is quite a task...lol, so we have decided that artificial tree was what we wanted. I love it!! It looked much better than I had imagine plus we now able to put up the tree early instead of right before Christmas...lol. My tree is up now so I am happy. Oh, you daring women, I didn't dare to wrestle the crowds after Thanksgiving. Watching the TV about how many people were out there scared me badly enough...lol. Glad you find some good bargains.
Okay...dh is home and he is waiting to use the computer so I will catch up more tomorrow. Night!
Julia
Teensybean 12-01-2004, 03:23 AM Just a quickie to revise my menu-- Bill decided he wanted to have some of the king crab for dinner......it was fantastic!!
L-- 5 oz chicken breast, 1/2 c WW stuffing, 2 oz sf cranberries, 1/2 c green beans.
Snack-- apple
Dinner-- King crab with a dab of butter, 1/2 c green beans, 1/2 c SF pudding with 6 T light whipped cream.
Okay, heading to bed now.....sweet dreams all.
livinginthesticks 12-01-2004, 08:35 AM Good morning everyone - Big orange babe - I live in central Maine - really not the sticks but to someone who has never lived in the Northeast outside of a big city, one would probably think it's the sticks. The town I live in has about 4,000 people and our closest city (25,000) is 30 minutes away. It's a great place to live and have lived here all of my life. It's great to get to Florida or the Caribbean in the winter since come about March, we're really sick of winter. No snow yet but it was a bit icy this morning.
Couple of questions...someone listed whole wheat wrap for lunch?? Didn't realize those were legal? No sugar and whole wheat ingredients, correct? Low fat too?
Also, what about breakfast cereals? I have oatmeal and all-bran but wanted to know if there is a cold cereal that is legal? The SB book doesn't list any specific brand. What is museuli?? (spelling)? It's on the carb GI listing and didn't know what it was? There is Musleix (spelling) cereal? Is that the same thing?
Toni48 12-01-2004, 09:05 AM Good morning everyone. Brr its a cool 20 degrees this morning here. I've got my cup of coffee and warm slippers on. My DH is working days for awhile instead of nights so now I can be on in the morning like regular people...LOL I had sour dough toast for breakfast. L- spicy beef, cooked cabbage, salad. D- Ham and beans S- apple, cheese. I know not enough vegetables. But eating is lots better than last week!
Solly 12-01-2004, 09:14 AM Good Wed Morning Ladies.
Have to run to a meeting but wanted to jump on here first. Eating is still great. Walked on the TM for 20 minutes and got 25 minutes of wt training in last night. Shooting for 4 times this week at least. Got all my presents boxed up last night. Will wrap them tonight. What I have that is. I need to make a list so I know what direction to go in Saturday.
My stupid shoulder is fine today. I don't even want to think about what causes things like that.
Toni, glad to see you back on board. Computers can drive you crazy. Hope those cravings went away.
Country, I'm having the same love/hate relationship with the scale. Better than it was,but still not happy about what I see. Congrats on your new puppy. How long will the boys be gone?
Sebray, we've had nothing but rain for 3 weeks. At least I have a treadmill to resort too. In fact, I sweat much more walking 1 mile on the TM then 3 outside. Glad your cold is about gone. Fleas, ick.
Ken, sometimes our bodies just need some extra sleep. Beetter to do that then get run down and catch something. I'm looking for a "different" gift. Thanks for the reminder about Pier 1.
Monet, hopefully you will be able to get someone to get your sweetner. I'm anxious to see how it works. I'm having my chili tonight.
Sticks, Kashi makes 1 or 2 that are legal. Someone else may be able to fill you in. I also eat the Special K Low Carb. You can get the ww tortillas and use them for wraps. I'm not sure if these wraps at fast foodplaces or legal or not. Have never tried them. Keep sugar 3 and under. No "enriched" flour.
Hope to be back later.
sebray 12-01-2004, 09:44 AM well i tried very hard to convince myself NOT to get on the scale. i have been feeling so bloated since TG and i havent been able to walk. but i finally got on the scale and then couldnt look at it so i hollored for kevin to tell me what it said....he didnt want to tell me...he kept asking me what i weighed before so he'd know if it was good news or bad news...i threated to throw the skillet at him and he finally told me.....175 ladies!!!!! woo hoo im down another 3 pounds :D  :cheer:
eating some not leagal oatmeal for BF but im going xmas shopping and then have class all afternoon and into the evening so i need something that will stick with me while im out for awhile so im not tempted to eat at mickey d's...although i might grab a healthy sub at subway for lunch...ive been craving it :)
got all my xmas cards done last night and am mailing them today...used almost a whole box of 32 cards....since when did i know that many people?
well im off to finish my xmas shopping
btw...anyone seen tech lately? im missing my buddy :)
Mishi 12-01-2004, 10:05 AM I've been eating Grapnuts Flakes (whole grain wheat, wheat flour, sugar -4g-, malted barley flour). Seems legal enough; at least I hope it is.
Kashi is nice. Also, wouldn't the Atkins Morning Starts be legal?
Ellen 12-01-2004, 10:30 AM Morning! This has to be fast, since I got way layed by a friend on IM before I could do my post and now I am out of time!
LIVING: Shredded wheat is legal- just don't get the frosted kind. In a pinch, Cheerios are ok...though higher GI than I like and I can tell when I eat too many. I find some oat bran flakes at the health food store that is ok too.
SEBRAY: Congrats on the loss! I found them.... sigh.
JACK: I am glad your shoulder is ok. Fibromyalgia is not fun, but there is evidence that there is a thyroid connection....and some women when treated for thyroid have their Fibromyalgia clear up.
Gotta go get James up...later!
Fillise 12-01-2004, 11:15 AM I had a scary incident last night, that the more I think about it, the more I think was caused by bad eating habits--talk about a wakeup call!
I had not eaten all day (mistake # 1) and went to a new italian restaurant in town. I proceeded to have two margaritas (mistake # 2) a loaf of bread (mistake # 3) and a huge bowl of pasta (mistake # 4 in light of 1-3). As I was sipping my after dinner coffee, I started feeling lightheaded and sick to my stomach (no wonder). I thought I ought to make my way to the restroom--just in case. I was starting to feel really hot and really sick. I stood up, took three steps and everything went dark. I woke up on the floor of the restaurant with everyone gathered around--sooooo humiliating. I still felt sick so I had to lay there for a while, but fortunately did not "get sick." After 10 minutes or so the nausea started to subside and I was able to sit up. They helped me to a chair and I sat there until I felt light going home. A nice couple at the restaurant (that I'd never met) drove me home. I actually felt fine after I started sitting up. The more I thought about it the more I think my blood sugar--after being waaay low, spiked waaay high after all the refined carbs and my body rebelled. If it had been food poisioning, I;d have been sick all night. OK lesson learned (and before you start yelling at me--yes I'm calling the Dr. this am, just to make sure it is nothing more serious).
OK--so I'm paying attention to my nutrition BIGTIME!
That's all I have for now. Talk to you later.

Pancho 12-01-2004, 11:56 AM Good Day fellow SBers. I hope it is a Happy Weigh-in-Wed for you all. I was at 120.5# this morning.
You would be proud of me; I got up at 4 a.m to go to the gym, like most Wednesdays. BUT, it was freezing here. It was 31 degrees when I left the house; that is really cold for us. We will only hit 60 degrees today. I was so cold when I started working out, but warmed up quick and got a great workout in.
Lane and I will be heading out of here in awhile. I have to go make a return at the mall, and then I have to drop off some stuff at my sister's and mom's house. I think we will go to Chick-Fil-A for lunch too.
Toni: My parents do the Charlie Brown trees now that we are all grown up. Have you weighed yet, or are you still staying away from the scales?
Jack-K: What kind of chocolate pie did you make for TG? 10#'s?? That's gotta be water weight...but you know that. I like the artificial tree, but I am going to buy some scented pine cones and put under the tree. I sure hope you don't have Fibro; I hear that can be extremely painful. Good job on the exercise...4 times a week is my goal too.
Ken: Good luck with additional dental work that you have to have done. I found some good WW waffles at Whole Foods; I think they are made by Wheatstone. I am so with you on shopping without the spouses. My DH is not the best person to shop with. This actually caused a near argument over the weekend.
Monet: Sounds like a great cookbook....can't wait to hear about how some of the recipes turn out. Good job getting those walks in....just try not to overdo it too soon. Good luck with your doctor appt. today.
BOB: That sounds so painful...I hope the OT can help you out.
Teensy: I am glad you are starting to feel better. I am sure the snow is beautiful.
Sticks: It sounds as if everyone else has answered your questions, so I will extend a warm welcome...ask away. Cheerios in the yellow box are fine, but not as high in fiber as some others. There is also shredded wheat, Uncle Sam, and some organic ones that Barbara's make that fall under the 5g or under rule.
Gator: I need some running shoes desperately. I hope to find a good sale between now and Christmas and get some for myself. I am sure your yard will be beautiful in no time.
Fillise: Welcome home. What a scary incident!! Please check with your doctor and let us know what he/she has to say. You may be right about your blood sugar levels being off though. How do you feel today?
Mishi: Hang in there and stay committed and you will see a loss soon; I am sure of it.
Heart: How do the kids feel about not having a tree? What a tough position to be in this month. I new house would be enough of a gift for all of you though. Good job exercising.
Country: Hello to sweet Dixie, and welcome home!! What I'd give to pay $39 for a tree.
Sebray: Hang in there. It can only get better from here.....see, what did I tell you....congrats on the 3#'s. Keep up the great job.
Lane has been throwing a 15 minute tantrum, so I better go...she's the best form of birth control ever.
Take care,
Nat

kengjw 12-01-2004, 12:43 PM Good morning...
I tried to get on early today but dh get to the computer first :( I ended up sweeping the floors and getting some some clothes ironed. Overall, it was productive :) I just have to get on before dh comes home again...lol and say "hi" although I really need to make my lunch.
Here's what my menu looks like today :
Breakfast : 1 ww waffle (yum!), 1 fried egg and fruit salad.
Snack : Fruit salad.
Lunch : Steam basa fish and sauteed shrimps, sauteed spinach with lots of garlic, red pepper flakes and spices and pasta (linguini).
Snack : Not sure yet but would probably will fruit salad since I do not have anything else to snack on.
Dinner : Leftover pork tenderloin stir-fry with broccoli, cauliflower, onions, bell-peppers and mushrooms. Rice or pasta.
I have yet to do my preparation for lunch like chopping and slicing, oh, I have not peel the shrimps either so I need to get started. I will be back to do my replies later but for now...
BOB : Sorry I didn't manage to reply you sooner but I did went back to read your post about yeast infection and thank you for reminding me about dh. I thought of that but somehow didn't really get into it. I will have to speak with my dr :) Thanks again!!
Everyone else, have a wonderful day (I am!!) and will "chat" with you all later.
Julia
livinginthesticks 12-01-2004, 01:10 PM Thanks for the information - I didn't think Cheerios were legal?? In any event, I'm going to the grocery store after work - will see what I can find. If I can't find anything, I'll stick with grapenuts, oatmeal and shredded wheat. I do buy the Ezekial bread. If you haven't tried it, I think it's wonderful. The first time I tasted it, it tasted funny but didn't realize how much sugar is really in bread! I can get it at my grocery store in the organic section (freezer). It's in an orange package.
What about rolls, etc.? Does anyone have a particular brand they use? Also, what brand for the whole wheat waffles?
Hope everyone has a great day!
Mishi 12-01-2004, 03:09 PM Today's Menu:
Pre Breakfast: 4 oz NSA OJ
Breakfast: 2/3 cup Grape Nuts Flakes w/ sliced dried apricots and 1/2 cup milk, coffee
Lunch: WW wrap with chicken salad (made with onions, green bell pepper and celery) & pepper jack cheese
Dinner: deep dish crustless pizza quiche & side spring mix salad w/ italian dressing
snack: apple w/ 2 TBSP natural pb
water: 1 gallon
supps: taken
exercise: 2 mile WATP
Mishi 12-01-2004, 03:10 PM Do my menus thus far look ok?
kengjw 12-01-2004, 04:03 PM Ohh, I am stuffed...so yes, I ate too much today but lunch was so good. I made a simple "sauce" with chopped fresh herbs (parsley, tarragon, thyme), lots of chopped garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper and coat them with extra virgin olive oil. The sauce was light even with olive oil and the fresh herbs and garlic was fantastic. I saw this recipe on Everyday Italian on Food Network. The chef made hers with chopped rosemary, mint etc which looked so good so I had to try. She put hers on her simple baked fish and I did the same. Love it! I also ate too much shrimps :)
Okay, on to more replies :
JACK-K : I am glad your appointment with the oncologist went well. Pretty princess huh? :) Are you arms feeling better today? Actually I am okay with the dental work since it could be worst because I had not maintain my teeth for so long. I thought I was going to lose them all...lol or at least need some sort of surgery but thank God, I don't, just some easy process to correct them. I am so glad. I know I am in good hands though so that helps a lot.
LIVINGINTHESTICKS: Welcome!! I am sorry for my late welcome. The last few days have been a little crazy but glad I can finally do some replies today. Glad you are here. Please ask any questions and we will help you as much as I can. I love SB so much because it is VERY doable and flexible. There are so many options and they are not just healthy but yummy! I don't count anything, not even starches, just eat as balance as I can in every meal. For example, every meals (except breakfast which I usually only have my starch and a protein) will have a starch (brown rice, pasta or sweet potatoes), a protein (seafood, meat) and lots of veggies. Snacks in between meals. I will try to choose less fat stuff, lean meat whenever possible etc. So, I really don't count anything. There are some food where I really don't like the low fat stuff so I use the full fat stuff sparingly. You can customize SB the way that will suit you so that you find it easy to follow for long term.
MISHI : You are doing good!! Love your menu!
HEART : All the best in your house hunting adventure. As much as it can be frustrating, I bet it is also exciting. Hope you find the right one soon :)
TEENSY : Snow already? I would love to see some snow this winter and I know Jess would too. I am keeping my finger-crossed ;)
MONET : Looks like you overdo yourself yesterday. Now, relax today and don't pull that kind of stunt again until you are healed properly.
TONI : I am glad you are back online. It will be hard for me not being able to go online. I have been having those "hunger" the last few days. I suspect Tom is around the corner. I have certainly ate more than I should and the scale is showing...lol. Oh well, got to eat more sometimes. Like you say, it could be worst, cakes and cookies etc etc. So, we are doing well right? lol.
COUNTRY : Congrats on your new addition. Dixie sound so cute! Dh and I put up our tree on Sunday. We gto ourselves a artificial tree since last year. We are done with real tree although I love the smell of real trees :) Yes, I am having fun being able to drive around on my own. I don't drive too far and won't be doing so for a while unless dh is with me. I love being able to shop on my own because shopping with dh wasn't fun :)
SEBRAY : Fleas, yikes! That is so stuff business to take care of. Hope you get that under control soon. Dh has been using the fireplace for 4 to 5 times this season and winter is not here yet. He just loves using it. I will have to try roasting marshmellow one of these days because Jess has bot tried doing that. I don't like marshmellow but would try just to have that experience...lol. Are you feeling better today? I do get some "sad" spell once a month before Tom, otherwise I am pretty much okay. Keep those positive stuff close at heart and remember them when you are feeling depressed. It helps me tremendously.
That's from me now. I am going to take a walk to visit my neighbors up the street. It's such a nice sunny day for a walk. Will catch up later.
Julia
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 12-01-2004, 04:42 PM A Carrot, an Egg and a Cup of Coffee (You may never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.)
A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying
a word.
In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in
a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me, what do you see?" "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.
Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"
Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity, boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique; however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water. "Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?"
Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart? Or am I like the coffee bean?
The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, and enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

GatorGal 12-01-2004, 09:03 PM My day has been so busy that I can't remember whether or not I posted earlier today or not. I still have a ton to do, but just needed to sit down and take a breather.
The pond and waterfalls are all done, and it looks great. It looks SO different from the first one, the one that the big tree smashed when it fell during Charley. The old waterfalls were made of Florida fieldstone, which is rough and not smooth at all. The new waterfalls are made of the stones you would find in the mountain streams in N.C. They are big and roundish, and a lot harder stone than the others. This will be better as the water will stay clearer, without stone leaching into the pond. Lights were put into the waterfalls and we were looking forward to seeing them. For some reason, they never came on, so the guy will have to come back and fix that. :(
I'll get a picture posted when that gets done. Monet, can you resize the picture for me?
I worked today at the Crisis Pregnancy care Center. Busy, busy. I have to take my car back because they replaced a burnt out bulb in the blinker, and it still doesn't work. I'm taking my student that I mentor to look at a local community college tomorrow. That will take several hours. Then at 4:30 I'm leaving to go to my DH's office party. It's a great party with 3 whole floors of a large office building jammed with people and lots of good food. All the big business people in town are invited, and it is generally hard to move through the crowds on all of those floors. I'm hoping I won't have too hard a time resisting the goodies. I'll try to be very careful about what I select and try to stay away from the desserts. The desserts will have to be pretty special for me to have any. They normally have a room on each floor just for desserts--bread pudding with rum sauce, Yule log, chocolate mousse, and little tarts. I think I can resist those. The pasta stations might give me a little more trouble, so if they have roasted tenderloin of beef, I'll stick with that, along with salads and veggies. Wish me luck and perseverance.
Sticks--The idea of the cold cereals is just like the rest of Sugar Busters: whole foods, close to the natural thing, whole grains, no sugar added. I use Shredded Wheat n' Bran, which has 8 grams of fiber per bowl.
Meusli is originally a very natural cereal made of whole grains. Some companies have doctored up the original and now we have all sorts of sweetened and flavored meuslis. Generally meusli will have oat flakes, rye flakes, wheat flakes, maybe barley flakes, all uncooked. Often raisins or other dried fruit is included, along with nuts. You can buy meusli in the cereal aisles in Europe (brands such as Jordan's), but I have never seen this in the US. I love meusli, and make a simple version at home by using 1/2 cup raw old fashioned oats, softened with a little water. I add about a cup of cut up fruits, normally berries and oranges and apples, a splash of milk, and voilą, a great breakfast with about 6 grams of fiber and great taste.
Jackie--My DH and I are driving up to Gainesville next weekend to watch the Gators play Louisville in BBall. Should be a good game. I'm sure you will be pulling for the Gators to beat Louisville! Now that UF doesn't have a football coach, we are just focusing on basketball. Meanwhile, the saga of idiocy re. finding a football coach continues with our new university prezzy (Bernie Fife, LOL) and Jeremy Foley.
I still have the laundry to fold; I finally got it all washed yesterday. I finished another angel costume and have 2 more left to do. I may try to get one done tonight. And the kitchen is a mess. I fixed ratatouille tonight, and that always makes a mess. We had tiny (4 oz) loin lamb chops with dijon mustard, rosemary sauce for dinner, along with the ratatouille. Mmmmmmm.
Gotta go.
PS. The one thing I really like about the ticker is that I can see that scale move DOWN!! I used to leave the scale in the bathroom (a doctor's type scale with a balance beam) set at my weight. Then when I weighed and lost, I could move that little sliding weight DOWN. :) But since I now weigh more than my DH, I don't leave the scale set on my weight, and I lost the fun of just seeing the slider move to the left. So now I can do that with the ticker. :)

Ellen 12-01-2004, 09:10 PM Evening! We were late to the doctor..and they made me wait for the first time ever at this doctor's office! They took me in almost an hour late! I was thinking maybe my appointment was cancelled the Friday before Thanksgiving so the doctor could leave for the week a day early. Shame on me! He told me his wife just had a baby! He is so cute...kind of quiet and shy. He told me I had to be my GYN's favorite patient because I laugh so much. I have to go back to see him in six months to make sure everything is healed and the hernia is not reoccuring. So, I am cleared by him to do just about everything now too...just have to be careful with lifting.
One the way home, we stopped at a HFS we used to go to a lot years ago. We ran into a friend from church who works there. It was fun to see him... They unfortunately, did not have the fruit sweetener. I am probably going to have to order it.
My tummy really hurts tonight...I think from using the muscles to sit up on the table in the exam room at the doctors. Not too smart of me...but I have to start using them sometime! ;)
I am so very tired, I am going to wait until tomorrow morning for replies....
:grouphug:

kengjw 12-02-2004, 12:56 AM Good evening...
I am supposed to do some housework but I come here instead :) I did take a walk to see some neighbor's up the street and had a great time catching up with them. I really need to exercise more. Oh, it's time of the month again...well, great, just right before my trip to FL :(
More replies :
JACK-K : WTG on your exercises!! You are an insporation! Glad your shoulder is better now. I love Pier 1 and would probably go back there to get another ornament for myself. I am starting to like the one I bought for my MIL plus we don't have many ornaments right now. Hope you find your gift at Pier 1.
SEBRAY : Woo Hoo!! I am cheering for you! You are doing great, keep making those great decisions! Oh, you just reminded me that I have yet to buy my Christmas card and not make my Christmas list for this year...LOL. Bad me, bad me!! Okay, 2 sodas?? Hope they are sf :)
FILLISE : Wow, your incident yesterday was very scary. Definitely get check out to get a peace of mind. I am glad you didn't hurt yourself from fainting.
PANCHO : Yes, yes, I am SO proud of you!!! 4am, how do you do it?? I would kill anyone who wake me up at that time...LOL.
BOB : Sorry you had to wait until next Wed for appointment. Hope this week passes by quickly for you.
STICKS : I have seen the Ezekiel bread at Publix health freezer section but have not tried it. I am eating Nature Own Wheat and Fiber which I love.
MISHI : Menu looks great today. You can certainly add some protein to your breakfast, if you like.
GATOR : The waterfalls sounds great. Can't wait to see the pic. You will do just fine at tomorrow's party. I bet there are plenty of good legal food to eat :) Have fun!
MONET : You are cleared to do almost everything? Hmmm....that could be dangerous...lol. Glad you are healing well :)
COUNTRY : Hope you had a nice day.
I am caught up with my replies so I will call it a day now. I have tons of things to do tomorrow but will check in anyhow. Nighty night!
Julia
Teensybean 12-02-2004, 02:03 AM Evening all,
Spent most of the day in town. Had to go pick up our 1/2 beef. Hope it is good. Last years was not the greatest. I hate it when the meat is tough. Dh loves beef, so we eat quite a bit of it. Also stopped to check out a few tools that I am thinking of getting dh for Christmas. Tomorrow I will go back in and hit Costco. I got to thinking that I didn't go all last month, so I guess I am due.
Eating was good today though a bit sparse. I wasn't too hungry so......
B-- 1/2 c Fiber One with 3 oz blackberries, 1/4 c ff milk, 8 drops liquid Splenda and a Lite 85.
snack--apple
L-- leftover chicken, salad with red wine vinegar, scraped the topping off 1 slice pizza, and 2 sf Nips. (dh and ds were eating Papa Murphy's and I couldn't resist!!)
snack--blackberries
D--3 king crab legs with a tad of butter, 4 oz cucumber. (2 legs would have been plenty!!) 1/2 c sf Jello with light whipped cream.
Well ladies, again I am going to hit the hay. Sweet dreams all......
Ellen 12-02-2004, 08:31 AM Good Morning! It looks like its going to be another sunny day here. Yay! I need to go downstairs and get some stuff organized. Today, MISHI and her kids are coming over to make graham cracker gingerbread houses. I can't wait! I met Mishi once after she moved here at a get together from another board, and just loved her and her kids....so this will be fun.
I slept so so yesterday. The surgeon yesterday told me to talk to my GYN or GP if the insomnia was bothersome and I was still having trouble in a few weeks. I went to bed last night at 11, woke up at 1:15, 3:10, 4:30, and 6:30. I finally gave up and got up at 7. Waking up and being tired enough to go back to sleep is ok, but when you can't go back to sleep...well, that is the pits.
The kitty 500 is going on downstairs. I need to go squirt some kittens..and hopefully get them to calm down. Why did I ever agree to letting James bring these kittens?
I'll be back!
kengjw 12-02-2004, 09:34 AM Good morning..
Monet is right, looks like we will have another sunny day. I have yet to have anything this morning but will do so after I check in here. Nothing much planned for today except some packing and cleaning around the house to do. My menu should be as follows :
Breakfast : Ham and cheese sandwich. Water.
Snack : Fruit salad.
Lunch : Seared pork tenderloin, green beans, baked accorn squash in some Agave and cinnamon.
Snack : Fruits.
Dinner : Not sure yet.
MONET : Good morning...looks like your day will be yummy and fun :) I am sorry you didn't sleep well yesterday. I know I will not be a very nice person to be around when I don't sleep well. So, I can sympatize. {{{hugs}}}
TEENSY : Dh loves beef too and if he can, he would eat it everyday. We are thinking of buying beef in bulk too, we just waiting to find the right butcher...lol. Hope you have
a good day today.
Okay, got to go...need to call my mom and then write some checks. Will chat later!
Julia
CountryMom4Him 12-02-2004, 12:26 PM It's sunny and cool this beautiful Thursday. You should have seen me yesterday. It's funny now but I wasn't smiling when my rubber boots got stuck in the mud and I pulled my foot right out. :) Yep, there I stood one foot ankle deep in the muck and the other foot too stuck to move. The hay man had a huge grin on his face. Talk about COLD!...LOL After pouting a bit and new pair of mud free socks I braved the mud and finished my chores. Jessie gets special points for all his hard work. He usually cares for the horses. It's too quiet with him and his sister gone. I miss the hustle and bustle. Of course Dixie is trying to make up for their absence. She is a ball of energy and then some. I'll attach her picture so ya'll can see her. I think she is about 6 or 7 weeks in the photo.
Monet...I'm sorry you are having a rough time sleeping. My mama goes through that. Sometimes she is up ALL night. It started in the last ten years or so. Be real careful with the lifting. Mama tore a second hernia after her surgery and had to have another. Every time I see her lifting something I panic and run to help. I forgot at Thanksgiving when she ran back to get our free turkeys that we had forgotten. When we got home I realized she had picked up about 30 pounds...not good.
Julia...I just love reading your posts. You have such a bright spirit about you. How is your little one? My youngest is fighting a cold. He woke me coughing about 6 this morning. A dose of medicine and he is sleeping very soundly now.
Susan...how very scary. Praying all is okay with you. And that what ever it was doesn't happen again.
Gator...your waterfall sounds just beautiful. Can't wait to see the photos.
Colleen...you are doing so good with your eating. I wish I could say the same. I have been eating a ton of spaghetti squash. I warm it up and add some feta, green olives, tomato and red onion...talk about good. My problem is I don't stop with one helping sometimes. :) How is your little pup doing?
Sebray...how cool to have your kitchen cleaned for you. As much as you like coming to the board we like having you hear. You have such energy. Now if it would just rub off on me.
Bob...loved the story. I hope in my life that I am coffee more than carrots. How are you feeling this morning? Is the pain any better since you are resting some?
Jackie...((hugzz)) WTG with all your exercise. I am so behind in that department and it shows on the scales. It's amazing to me how just walking 30 minutes a day helps me to maintain but if I skip just a day or two the pounds start piling back on.
Toni....good morning. Is it still cold where you are? It's 57 this morning so a bit warmer than the last two days. I'm so glad. We think we would like to move where it snows someday until winter actually gets here and then I'm soooo glad we don't...LOL
Deb...hope you are having a good day.
Heart...Did you get the bid on your house? I missed a few days last week.
Poncho...((hugzz))
Sef....if you are lurking know that we are thinking about you and really miss seeing you.
JackieO...you too lady! ((hugzz))
Sebrina...Tranquil...you are not forgotten either.
My second cup of coffee is calling so I'd better hurry up.
Remember...you are all GREAT! A true blessing and a gift to me. I LOVE reading your post and sharing in your weight loss journey.
Love and hugs,
Crystle
Solly 12-02-2004, 12:36 PM Hi Ladies,
i started this earlier and had to run to a meeting.
There was an article inour paper today regarding how to make it throught he holidays on a low carb diet. The main things was (and one of my big pieces of advice too) is BE PREPARED. Take something legal for you to eat, stick some legal breads, crackers, etc in your purse. Call ahead and ask what is being served so you can save your starches. I just think being preapred is the biggest thing you can do for yourself to survive this WOE.
Got in my 20 minutes on the TM and 25 mintues of wt training last night. Didn't think I would get int he wt training as I thought we were going out. But we didn't so I got all my packages wrapped and under the tress (the ones that I have already). Couldn't sleep last night either. I was freezing all night. Woke up and 4:00 and couldn't go back to sleep. Slept on and off until 6:00 so got up and got my 20 minutes of treadmill done. Will skip the wt training today. Now my other arm/shoulder is killing me. This is really weird. The other one was completely fine by lunch time. It is a little sore today but probably from the wt training. Just hoping this one clears up as quickly as I can hardly use my arm.
Oh I forgot to post my wt yesterday. I stayed the same as last week or up 1/2 pound the scale kept fluctuating.
Sebray, congrats on the 3 lbs. I have half my cards done. You do know the bread at subwayis not legal. I'm not sure about the wraps. They do have some great salads though. Gonna have to use that one on my DH. Of course I don't think it would matter to him if I was mad. He figures I will get over it in time.
Monet, I've been meaning to ask you, the md ran a throid test on me and said he would call tomorrow with the results. What numbers should I ask about? Sorry you had such a restless night. I hate that clock watching. Have fun with Mishi and kids.
Susan, Oh my gosh. I'm glad you are all right. Were you alone? I'm glad you did not hurt yourself. Hope you didn't have a dress or skirt on  Do you have low blood sugar problems? Lessons learned the hard way. Let us know what the Dr says.
nat, I bought a ww pie crust at whole foods and just used sf choc pudding and pie filling (the kind you cook) Topped it with sf cool whip and crushed up a sf toffee bar on top. You would be proud of me, I have walked on the treadmill 20 minutes every night and worked out 20-25 minutes. Even got up this morning and did the TM. I think of you while I'm doing it. You are inspiring.
Bob, how do dogs cough? Bummer about not getting in to see the OT for a week. Shame there isn't soemthing you can be doing in the mean time. Bets you are getting all your shopping done though. Cute story. I have seen a similar one about a cake mix.
Sticks, can't answer your questions. We cannot get ww rolls or buns here. With all the low carb stuff out there you would think someone would make a ww bun. have a great day.
Mishi, you menu looks great to me.
Ken, you sure are some fancy cook. Your lunch and dinners look so elaborate.
Gator, The party sounds like fun.. Here's hoping you can resist all the goodies. Have fun at the game. Go Gators! Can't wait to see pics of the watrfall, sounds beautiful.
Teensy, I don't think I have many day
s when I'm not hungry. maybe I do, but I don't have many days I don't want to eat something.
Have a great afternoon. Hope to check back later.
Pancho 12-02-2004, 12:39 PM Can I just start by saying that I am crampy, cranky and tired? Well, I am! Thanks for letting me vent. TOM hit with a vengeance. Lane woke up at 4 a.m. with a runny/stuffy nose and got some on her blankie and wanted me to wash it right then and there. I had to explain to her that it would take way to long to wash and dry it, but I would wipe it off....not a satisfactory answer for this stubborn 2-year old. Then, she wanted to call me in to wipe her nose every time it started to run....I told her she could keep the box of kleenex in her bed, but she would have nothing to do with that. I don't know where she gets this stubborness, but it is really making me crazy. I took her to the mall with me the other day to pick up my "Mother's Ring" that has been back from being repaired for over a month now. We got there 20 minutes before the mall opened, so I thought we'd walk and "window shop." I don't remember what set her off, but she was screaming and flailing around and her screams were echoing through the mall, but I wasn't about to leave because I had to pick up my ring (the mall is 45 minutes from my house). She is such a challenge for me after my calm, cool, ultra-pleasing Britt. She wanted to ride the carousel and play in the little kid's play area, but I didn't let her, and that made her even more upset. She will learn that she gets no "rewards" with behavior like that. Boy, you can sure tell who HASN'T had children by the looks that you get. Those are the same looks I used to give people before I had kids and thought that I would be such an awesome mom and my kids would never ever act like that in public
Anyhow....Britt has physical therapy after school today. A local store has some tamales on sale this week that I'd like to try. I love tamales this time of year, and I know that they are totally NOT LEGAL, but that is one indulgence I allow myself. The same store has a 5# box of clementine oranges for $2.49, which is a great buy in our neck of the woods. They also have Blue Bunny yogurt (10 for $5). Tomatoes are not even "touchable" right now because of all the storm damage in Florida. I haven't been able to buy any tomatoes in awhile. Anyway, I have to try to get by that store today after PT, or take Lane with me while Britt is in PT...we'll see.
On to some replies....
BOB: I am brave to take Lane to the mall with me...heck, I'm brave to even leave the house with her (ha). I liked the Carrot, Egg, Coffee story that you posted...really makes you think, huh? Try to take it easy until you can get into the OT.
Sticks: The plain Cheerios in the yellow box are legal; they fall under all the "legal" categories. I eat them a few times a week. There are better choices due to higher fiber, etc...I never did care for the Ezekial bread, even toasted. Have you tried the tortillas by Ezekial? I usually get Sara Lee or Earthgrains bread. When you are looking for rolls, waffles, etc...just make sure that they are made with stone-ground whole wheat, and that they don't have any enriched wheat in them. Also make sure the sugar is below the 3g/5g rule, whichever you choose to follow. Some of the waffles I have found at the health food store is the Wheatstone brand. Orowheat has a legal dinner roll.
Mishi: Your menu looks pretty good. Is your milk skim and your cheese lite? If not, that can add up. You could probably add another snack or two in there too. I'm not sure you are getting enough food.
Ken: I'm right there with you on TOM; sometimes it stinks to be a woman (ha). How's the driving going? Are you feeling comfortable behind the wheel, or a little nervous still?
Gator: Gheez, are you busy enough, woman? Glad your yard is coming together; I am sure it will look beautiful. What a fun party....good luck, but allow yourself a little bit of indulgence. I am sure with that much food, there will be plenty of good options. We have my DH's party next Friday, and I already ordered a chicken dinner. That's all they have...no finger foods laying around.
Monet: Glad your "hernia" appt. went well. Enjoy Mishi and the kids...sounds like fun.
Teensy: Thanks for the reminder....I've put off going to Costco long enough. I've gotta get there one of these days. Are you feeling 100% yet?
Well, I better go give Lane some much needed lovin'.
Take care,
Nat
Pancho 12-02-2004, 12:48 PM Country: We were posting at the same time. Can I laugh now? I was laughing reading your post because it sounds so like something I'd do. It's hard when the kiddos are away. I still miss Britt when she is gone to school, and then she gets home and she and Lane are playing and fighting, and everything is right with the world. I didn't see the picture of your pup, but I can't see anyone's tickers either. I think I have a cookies block somewhere.
Jack-K: Can I just say I am SOOO proud of you. I really think getting that exercise is the key to permanent weight loss. We can eat good for so long, but if we're not burning those calories, they will continue to pile up on our bodies, whether they are low-glycemic or not. I'm glad you got your gifts wrapped. We watched Rudolph with the girls, and the elves made another surprise visit. I have so much to do, I don't even want to think about it....
Have a great day!

CountryMom4Him 12-02-2004, 01:21 PM I forgot to attach the photo. Maybe I'll get it right this time...LOL

THE BIG ORANGE BABE 12-02-2004, 03:27 PM AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!!!!
THE CRIPPLED CLAW reporting in! I have pain today...hurts like hell! On top of that, Kate had vertigo attack last night and she's down for the count today. They just zap all of her energy when she has one.
Tippy had a good report...sort of...no pneumonia! The cough turned out to be
a reversed sneeze. Happens in little dogs...their soft palate can't handle all the pollen and she actually loses her breath for about 30-40 seconds. All we can do is pick her up and love her to sooth the moment. He gave her two shots and sent me home with two different meds, a new dog food (hers was packed with fat and has caused her to gain 5lbs since I got her) she is now on Science Diet RD...restrictive diet...all fiber! No more goodies for her until she loses some weight! All this to the tune of $150!!!!!!!
JACKIE...one would think that I would be out doing the rest of my shopping!
I need to pick up something for Cathy's husband and then get their box to the UPS store...they are going to Etown on the 17th and won't be back to Winston Salem until the 22nd! I better get my arse on the move!
CRYSTLE..thanks for asking...but it's not a good day...hoping that it will get better as the day progresses.
NAT...did you see Amazing Race? I felt so sorry for those girls...over 8hrs unrolling hay....
JULIA...glad to hear you're having good weather...ours is UCKY!!! It actually looks like a gray winter day waiting on snow! Humid though...
MONET...Sorry to hear your tummy is hurting...it's bound to get better soon!
Have a good time with your company today! Sounds like fun..but DON'T OVER DO!!
I'm off for now...I'll check in later
BOB
kengjw 12-02-2004, 04:28 PM The weather is really lovely today, would probably take a walk later. I had to run (drive..lol) to Publix today to get some stuff, need it for the trip tomorrow. Jess started to get cranky and when we get home, I sent her to nap. She wouldn't nap but I had to make her take one by sitting on her bedside and making sure she stayed on her bed and sleep...LOL. I really didn't want to deal with her crankiness today and everytime she sleeps, she is so much easier to take care of. She ended up sleeping for over 1 hour which is consider long for her. Now, she is a happy camper :) Kids!! lol.
Lunch was great, I made the acorn squash for the first time and dh adores the squash. We had it at our next door neighbor's house on Thanksgiving and he was hooked. Today he is really happy that I made it. He was going to "rob" my portion of the squash too but I protected it from him. Just so you know, he has 2 halves of the squash to bring to work with him with the pork tenderloin and veggies. He must really love it to be so greedy...lol.
More replies :
COUNTRY : I have a picture of you in my mind getting stucked in the mud with your boots now...lol. How funny! When Jess is not around, I miss her too. Hey, try to take advantage of the quiet time you have. Plan something to do for yourself, relax, pampering etc. What a cute dog, glad she is keeping you company. I love your posts too, always sound so tender and sweet :) Jess is doing fine, just some crankiness from not wanting to naps these days. Her cold is gone and she is healthy as can be. She eats too much but she keeps telling me that it is because she is growing up....fast, fast, fast! I actually give her a nickname, "little piglet"...lol. She told me one day, "mommy you have got to stop calling me little piglet someday you know, I am growing up"...LOL. She then added, "I prefer honey, just call me honey". Daddy calls me honey"...LOL. See why I have a bright spirit, she really brightens up my day :) I am sorry your son is having a cold, hope the cold passes quickly.
JACK-k : Good advice...preparation is the key. I know that is I don't plan ahead, I am more likely to eat whatever...which is not good. Thanks for the reminder. WTG on your exercise...great job! My menu might look fancy but they are really easy to make, I promise :)
PANCHO : {{{{hugs}}}}} So sorry you are having a bad day. Vent all you want, you have my "ears" :) I was told many times and have seen many children that are in a family that are actually so opposite of each other. You can see the difference better when you only have 2 kids in a family. It looks like Britt and Lane is certainly very different. The good news is, if you can deal with both of them, you can deal with anything comes your way...LOL. Jess is sort of independent, shameless, totally not shy, fearless etc so I am imagining that my next child (if God blesses us one) will be the opposite...LOL. Well...life will be very interesting...lol. Having a cranky child when you are out is really not pleasant. I can relate to your comment about people giving you the stares like you are a bad mommy...lol. I was one of those ladies too before jess came along...lol. I had the same thoughts about people allowing their kids to make a big fuss at the public places (and thought they were not doing anything about it...now I know it is a tactic) but now I salute them because I know they are on to something. That is some strength to me. Now, I just smile and think to myself..."get over it" people..lol. Lately, Jess has been pretty cranky as she decided that she didn't want to nap anymore. On few ocassions, I thought I was going nuts so I can sympathize. After the kids are asleep for the night, plan some relaxing time for yourself, read your fav book, take a nice warm bubble bath, veg out on the couch or just go to sleep, etc. I am feeling much comfortable driving especially when I know where I am going...lol. I put in some gas "all by myself" (lol) the other day and was actually quite nervous doing it. I thought I was going to forget something and then set the car on fire...lol. It is funny because I feel like a kid again :)
BOB : Glad Tippy has a clean bill of health. I am sorry you are in great pain, wish I can help in anyway. Yes, I can...will pray for you. Humid huh? I don't like humidity at all. That is one reason why I am so glad dh and I didn't stay in FL. Dh used to live in Miami for 8 years or so before we get married. I was so glad he moved to GA after we got married. Well, not because of our marriage but because of a job offer. I move from an EXTREMELY humid and hot country to a nice 4 seasons weather state, not too cold or hot, just prefect! I love GA weather. I am hoping this weekend'sweather at West Palm Beach will be less humid.
I better go finishing up my work, still tons of them to be done. Good day everyone!!
Julia
techwife 12-02-2004, 04:30 PM I was bad, bad, bad on Thanksgiving...and my leftover stuffing is literally heckling me every time I open the fridge to get a kiwi or grapes! It's truly evil! So, needless to say, I'm maintaining 175 at the moment. Up a pound, but at least no more. And I'm officially tied with Sebray (YAY to Sebray for loosing three!! :dancer: )
It was downright nasty outside here yesterday, about 33 degrees, pouring rain splatting the windows and really windy...so I made illegal oatmeal cookies to warm the house up...and ate at least a half dozen of them in the process. :cookie: I just really needed something soul-warming... But there's only one left and I haven't touched it. At least I think it's still there...I'm hoping the kids ate it. :nono:
Oh, and then there was that bottle of Bailey's that I bought for the holiday that I finally polished off in my coffee yesterday morning ;) ...this dieting through the holidays is murder!!
So, today I had breakfast at the local diner with some other moms and had scrambled eggs and sausage with rye toast, but I don't think it was legal rye bread. But for dinner I'll be having my usual Tilapia with lots of veggies and lots of water. NO cookies or stuffing.
Other than that, I took my daughter shopping on Black Friday at Sears at 6am. They had a thing where the first 200 customers got a $10 coupon, so I'm like, "lets get there first thing so we can get the coupon!" Sure...at 6:01, when we got there, there were already at least 1000 people there!! Shoulder to shoulder through the whole store! Complete pandamonium! But I got a $20 dvd player, so at least that was good...I just kept telling my daugher, "hold on to my coat, I'm goin' in!" when I had to plow through a crowd that was particularly vicious. Oh, well...it was an experience. People were actually waiting up to two hours just to go in to KBToys at 7am. In...sane...
BOB - Just so you know...I'm definitely a carrot...but I'll work on being coffee...very nice story, BTW
Talk to everyone later!!
Techwife
PS...I know my ticker is off, but I refuse to add the one pound back on...I'd rather loose it than officially add it on... :sssh:
Pancho 12-02-2004, 05:04 PM Hey guys:
Quick check-in since I have to go p/u Britt soon. I don't know if I have told you about the legal pita chips I found at Trader Joes. I know I mention the flax chips a lot, but rarely mention these and they are awesome and legal. They are called multi-grain pita chips, and they are made w/ stone ground whole wheat and other stone ground grains (including corn - but very little). They taste great and are awesome with hummus or other dips. Check them out if you have a Trader Joes nearby; they are in a brown bag.
Tech: Technically the stuffing is no good anymore (leftovers should only be kept for 3-4 days)....throw it out! . You can get some great buys the day after Thanksgiving, if you are willing to be trampled. I heard the Disney store actually opened at 3 a.m. Yeouch! Be good tonight!
Ken: Getting gas by yourself....good girl! It will all be second nature soon. It's funny how judgemental we were before being moms isn't it? Funny how your whole outlook changes once you have children. Lane is in a rotten mood today, but I try to hug and love on her as much as I can knowing that she is not feeling too great. I try to channel my frustration to kindness; it works for me. I used to get so mad at her that I wanted to just slam a door and walk away...now I grab her and hold her, and it catches her off guard, and she tends to cool off a bit. I have to keep telling myself how lucky I am to have her and how much I love her on days like today. We tried so long, and I said many prayers and wished on many falling stars for her. She is going to be a strong, independent, succesful adult...I just know it! How old is Jess now? Britt gave up her naps a few months after she turned 3, but she had fractured her arm and couldn't suck her thumb to get to sleep. I hope Lane takes naps for a loooong time...we both need it.
OOOOPs, I lost track of time....gotta go get Britt.
Take care,
Nat
Ellen 12-02-2004, 05:06 PM Afternoon everyone! Mishi and crew left a little while ago. A friend from church was here too, and I just helped her carry her stuff- 6 week old son and gingerbread house- to the car. I am beat! I did not do much lifting, or straining, but I am tired. The house is SO quiet! The kids had a blast putting candies on their houses. I was so bad, nibbling on stuff after we finished... I have a few more houses to decorate, but I think I will leave them for Laura to do.
I ordered my fruit sweetner online. I have not been able to find it in any stores here...though it is supposedly available at the co-op in Little Five points. Its just so far to drive!
I am so tired, I can hardly keep my eyes open.

techwife 12-02-2004, 08:06 PM Just my two cents...even though nobody asked for it
I, too, have a toddler..my son Kyle will be four at the end of the month. He was such a bad sleeper for about three and a half years. I went to the doctor to see if I had rhumatoid arthritis (my gramma had it reeeeeally bad) starting because I ached so bad all the time especially when I just got up and after much testing, we decided that the pains were just plain ole lack of sleep.
My daughter, Shelley, who is ten now, was also a bad sleeper. And, although I have a hard time getting her actually upstairs and into her bed, she's just fine all night unless she has a real problem. BUT, she, too was up all the time at night...refused her crib at a year old and I just ended up with her in my bed every night so we could both sleep. Well, when my son was born and for the years of interrupted sleep that followed, hearing She |
