Hi Yall!!!

I am going to an appointment with a dietician on tuesday, and I was just wondering what I should ask her. What kinds of questons? Have any of you ever been to a dietician? What did they say? PLease give me some ideas of what to ask. ;)

Hello,

I have been to a dietitian two times in the past. At that point (a few years ago) I wanted to lose weight, but emotionally I was not ready to lose weight. I wish now I would have stuck it out and kept going. I have been thinking now about going back to a dietitian.

For my experience with both they took my weight, height and came up with my BMI. I was given a meal plan and we talked about what is "healthy and balanced eating". I was told at one to weigh my food when I eat and the other one explained how you can visually see how much food you are getting (closed first, thumb, etc).
We also talked about exercise and goal weight for my height.

I am not sure exactly where you are at right now with losing weight, but I will let you know some of the questions I am going to ask the dietitian if I do decide to go back to one.
First is how many calories a day is healthy and reasonable for me to lose weight. How many servings from each food should I have a day to stay balanced and be able to reach my goal. What are some healthy food options I could substitute if I am having a craving for a not so healthy food (chocolate etc). How many days does he/she recommend do aerobic and weight training exercises and the duration.

I hope this helped a little bit. Just remember they are there to help you to reach your goal and use them to their full advantage. Make sure anything you are uncertain about you bring up so you feel more comfortable and in control about reaching your goal.

Miss McCoy,

I just want to wish you the best of luck Tuesday and hope you get lots of helpful advice and information. I'm sorry I can't give you any pointers as I have never been to a dietician, but I think Kelly had great advice. I think that a dietician would be a great resource.

I've never posted here in this forum before, but thought what the hell - may as well jump in!

Why are you going to see the dietitian? You've made the appointment for a reason - what are you expecting he/she can do for you?

If it were me, I'd sit down and figure out exactly what I wanted to get out of my visit, write a list and take it along with me. Then check and make sure I've covered everything I wanted before I left. Are you after a meal plan, an understanding of how foods effect health, do you have a health condition (other than being overweight :) ) that a change of diet may help improve?

Not that I've ever been to a dietitian :p , but I wish you the best of luck with it all ....

I asked about portion sizes and was flabbergasted! So small! I'd been eating servings that were way too big.
What does everyone else think about Miss McCoy taking a list of what she normally eats in a day? Maybe then the dietician would just tweak it instead of recommending foods you'd never dream of buying or eating.

If you aren't willing to eat new foods and give up the bad stuff you are now eating, don't go. Your choices have made you overweight so it's time to try something new. I'd never go back to my old way of eating now.

Hi Miss McCoy! Just wondering how the visit went with the dietician. I went to one at the beginning of November and didn't think I learned anything that I didn't already know. But she helped me to get motivated again.

Let us know how it went!

Hello Ladies,

Thanks for all the advise. I did visit with the dietician, and she put me on a diet. 1500 calories a day. That part i was pretty dummed about. It is impossible for me to count calories. I just can't seem to remember to write it down. Does anyone else record calories. What helps you to stay on track? Please give me some advise.

Miss McCoy,

Check out www.fitday.com They have a awesome program for recording calories, weight goals, etc. They have a free one available on their site as well as a downloadable version for your PC. I bought the PC version, it has more features and it has become one of my favorite tools for weight loss. Hope this helps you!
