Hey, it's KAREN'S BIRTHDAY APRIL 19th and BIGORANGE'S BIRTHDAY FRIDAY, APRIL 20th!!!!!!

GatorGal - Hi, I'd been wondering what had happened to you as I hadn't seen you post for a week or so. Glad to see you are still with us. Deb and I were trying to "talk" to each other on IM. We are able to "chat" but not "talk". Have you tried voice talk on IM? To go to the post where you previously left off, click on the arrow near the top of the page where it says "Go to last post".

Ashley - Sounds like you had a wonderful meal to-day. I'm sure you will work off any excesses on the treadmill. In the Q & A in SB it does say that semolina flour is o.k. but then it tells you to stick to whole wheat pasta. This is one of the contradictions in the book but there really isn't too much difference in the gi of the white or whole wheat pasta, so I'm sure it is o.k. to have occasionally.

CathyCathy - I too had a problem with brown rice when I first tried it. I've tried different varieties and the one I find the most palatable is LUNDBERG'S BROWN BASMATI, cooked according to package instructions either on top of the stove or in the rice cooker. It's grown in California and I usually find it in the regular grocery store. They do have a web site if you want to check it out. http://www.lundberg.com

Good night all.

Marie.

HAPPY EASTER FOLKS! (It’s still Sunday in Hawaii.) I don’t actively celebrate so it’s not a problem for me, but I’m so glad to hear happy reports from all of you on your victories!

ABOUT BREAKFAST

Thank you to everyone who responded to my question about breakfast. It was enlightening to hear not only what you eat, but how you find time to fit this meal into your busy schedules.

Here are my ideas:

2 fried eggs over brown rice, with or without bacon (I cook a big batch of bacon in the oven and put it in the freezer. Then I toss a couple of strips in with my eggs and it's done in a few minutes!)

French toast with whole grain bread...easy and delicious! Sometimes with a spoonful of all-fruit spread. I make my own bread and always have it sliced and ready to go in the freezer!

Pb&j sandwiches with whole grain bread, fruit spread and fresh-ground all natural peanut butter

Shredded wheat with soy milk, and two boiled eggs (separately of course)

Egg salad on whole grain bread

An omelette (my specialty) with onions, mushrooms, cheese, sun dried tomatoes, and/or bacon AND I throw in brown rice or even oatmeal.

"Pancakes" with whole wheat flour or wheat bran. The difference is I use more eggs (2) and less flour (1/4 cup) so that it turns out rather dense and heavy but tastes good.

Click for more ideas, some of them not entirely legal! (http://www.atforumz.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41656)

Rhroo, I’m anxious to hear how it went!

Deb, sounds like you made a drastic improvement in the fiber intake! I read in Shape magazine not to increase fiber to quickly, but of course I did it anyway, and for a few days was rather, hmmm, AIRY to be around. But after those couple days I adjusted and have had no problems since.

I will e-mail you for those breakfast ideas; would love to hear them. I don’t think the tabouli mix had added sugar, I just wasn’t sure what grain it is based on. I will look it up next time I go to the health food store. I added olive oil, tomatoes, almonds, red onions and a FEW raisins...I know they aren’t legal but it needed just a touch of sweetness. It turned out really good, and is great for a quick meal.

The mushrooms were a big carton, maybe two pounds, but yeah, it was pretty expensive. I thought it was 5 and got to the checkout and found out it was 8, but by that time I was craving them! I love vegetables but there are some that tend to rot before I can get to them, especially celery, and carrots. But some veggies, partially because they are so expensive, are a real treat for me and I look forward to them nearly as much as my higher-calorie favorite foods. My very favorite vegetable is a steamed artichoke with melted butter...orgasmatic!!!! In fact it’s one of my favorite treats overall. Mushrooms and asparagus are close seconds. Zucchini is a little cheaper so I have it more

You just amaze me with your self-control with your chocolate. I wonder if I’ll ever reach that point. Right now my two big things are the ice cream and the shredded wheat, which I’m rationing. I’m still obsessing over both, pretty badly, but haven’t “cheated” yet. However I’m able to walk by the cookies and cake at Safeway with barely a twitch of panic in my brow, when it used to drive me crazy just to be near them at first.

And yes I was laughing at your toothpick story! Too funny! That reminds me, I read somewhere of a young dancer who would get all these chocolates as gifts from her admirers, but her mother would only allow her to eat one piece per week. I have thought of that story over and over again through the years and could never comprehend the idea of eating only one piece of chocolate per week...or just a little bit of ice cream...until now! Still adjusting however.

Marie, if I eat breakfast super early it doesn’t “register” for me either and I end up being even hungrier later. Works best for me to eat around 9. Unfortunately I’m at work by then so what I have ended up doing since I started running in the mornings again the past few days, is to eat the carb part before my run, such as a cup of shredded wheat, and then grab something quick as I’m starting work, like two boiled eggs.

I have starchy carbs with every meal now, such a nice change from low carb, but make them the side part of the meal instead of the main “base.” Am slowly cutting down on the amounts too.

The AOL browser doesn’t interface with AIM chat, last I know which is version 5.0. AIM, although it’s free and AOL costs money monthly, is a MUCH more advanced program. But yes, if Debbie opens up AIM separately while using AOL to connect, it sometimes works (I found the connection to be a little sketchy.) I’ve used AOL for years and can safely say it really sucks, except for when I’m traveling. Then I thank the little grey-faced executive gods. (Plug for high-speed Internet: a MUST for any household with two or more computers!)

Orange, you said, “Our board is probably THE ONLY one in cyberspace that doesn't fight and bicker ...This is because of one thing..WE ALL GET ALONG WITH EACH OTHER..” Well I don’t know if this group is the ONLY one that doesn’t bicker, but we are certainly unusually supportive. I am just tickled pink how I can ask a question and get such detailed, caring responses every time. However if a group of people “know” each other for a long time, there are bound to be misunderstandings and differences of opinion at one time or another...unless everybody is too scared to open their mouths...no big deal as long as the environment is one of respect and caring, as it definitely is here.

Okay, this is later. I see there was some controversy over a post by Amseraphim, which I don’t see. Must have been deleted. Ann, none of the previous discussion was directed to you. However, since I have been here you have mentioned being ignored twice. Since you’re the only one who has ever said anything about people not responding to you, I can see where you might take the discussion personally. I have noticed though, that in your last few posts you have been especially positive and cheerful! I always enjoy reading about your garden adventures...since I live in a high-rise apartment building (at least I have a balcony!) I don’t have any plants and have to get SOME gardening stories vicariously! ((((HUGS)))) Now let’s all move on to a BRAND-NEW WEEK!

Catsrule, well on my side, it’s more complicated than just having to adjust to eating different foods. It brought out a lot of other issues. But fortunately my roommate and I are not in a relationship so nothing is so serious that I can’t move on if necessary. I am not going to say any more “in public,” just that right now it’s hard for me to find the time to seek out a more supportive friendship so it leaves me doing things alone most of the time. With your husband, at least he is making the effort although he may not be as enthusiastic as you are right now. With time, love and patience I am sure everything will work out.

GatorGal, well it was certainly nice to “see” your lovely face around these here parts! I must add that I don’t trust my computer as far as I can throw it, which I would like to do most of the time anyway, and save AT LEAST every few minutes or as soon as I finish a paragraph! CNTL+S people--it’s not difficult!

Thank you for the “pancake” idea...I’m going to try that one. Sounds like they might even freeze for a grab-n-go breakfast. My nails are doing okay. I’m still not biting them but it takes so much time just to deal with the cuticles. I have several cuts on my hands, one of them from when I threw a razor in my gym bag and reached in to grab something, and another from god knows what, so I’m pretty grouchy about the subject in general. But I plan to take a few minutes tonight to work them over and redo my toenail polish, so I should feel better.

I will try your idea of “super slow” lifting because it’s really in line with what I figured out I should be doing anyway. Now that my eating is clean I have the mental focus to analyze my workout routine and see what I need to improve. It’s amazing. I don’t think the 30+ reps I was doing was doing me a lick of good. So I will keep you informed as to how I do with the heavier weights. I must admit that I haven’t managed to get any weights in this week although I have kept up with the abs, since I changed my routine mid-week. But next week, I’m getting the two sessions in for sure.

For those of you (Debbie that means you) who feel that muscle gained is weight gained....there is a vast difference between a pound of muscle and a pound of fat. A pound of muscle is a like having a fat-burning factory right there in your body. Because even if you don’t do any exercise, that muscle is burning 100 calories a day more than if it didn’t exist. I actually weight roughly the same as when I was a teenager but I am at least two sizes SMALLER due to increased muscle mass.

Debbie, it is possible that your body is “fighting” to stay this weight, and weight training might be just the thing to get you past this tough spot. Yes, you may gain weight in the short term (although I seriously doubt you will, as you’ll be burning fat more efficiently) but the long-term results will be worth it.

Ashley, that strawberry salad sounds just DIVINE! I will definitely be trying that especially as lovely strawberry season is on its way! I have put tons of mileage on the treadmill too, and still do. I would really like to try yoga if my schedule allows although it might be too slow paced for me. However everybody I’ve met who has been into yoga has been pretty darn toned and muscular! There must be something to it.

Oh, I almost forgot. How much will you take for your husband? How about for just one weekend? (green with envy)

Cathy, I make brown/wild rice and it turns out fine. I like it better than white rice. What is “mahatma” rice? Is it an instant or processed variety? Sounds like you added too much water.

I’m glad you’re sticking around and being honest about going off program. I am just curious as to the reason why you chose, (as you well put it) to have three “illegal” foods at once. After all there must be some logic behind it. What was going through your mind at the time? What could you have done differently?

Somebody on my other forum suggested keeping Splenda and cinnamon in an old container with holes drilled on top, and sprinkling it over buttered wheat toast for breakfast. I had never thought of that and it sounds good. For my french toast too.

Karen, thanks for saying hi! I have a hard time keeping up during the week too and still haven’t COMPLETELY stuck to my promise to never post during working hours (GROWL). I like being here better than just about anything right now, but work comes first!

Froggie and SolShine hi gals! miss ya!

Today’s thoughts

Okay my clothes are all washed and my house is clean, I made another batch of ice cream and washed the dishes...but still haven’t started my taxes! For a baby financial planner I’m being rather silly. But I just don’t want to face it. Will get up early tomorrow and do them before work.

Now that I have been following this WOE for several weeks, I have some insights. The first few days were really difficult. Even after abstaining from sugar since January, my body had some major adjusting to do. It took probably two weeks for my energy levels to go up. This weekend, I’ve been sleeping about 5 hours a night, or less and am not tired.

Ever since the first day I started, I have had a lot of trouble concentrating on work or focusing on any task that requires sitting still and concentrating. Like Saturday, I had to cut some checks and it took me several hours just to do that one task. I’m still having trouble and I’m not sure what to do about it.

I just started reading the classic Sugar Blues that I understand started the revolution. I got it on the way to the beach today and couldn’t put it down although I was hanging with my roommate at the time. It’s absolutely fascinating. Some of it reads as kinda old-fashioned but I found the insights on the political history of sugar absolutely fascinating. The author mentioned that he had bad acne as a teenager when he used to suck down grape sodas and malted milk constantly. I suffered from severe acne from before puberty to my mid twenties and would have done ANYTHING to get rid of it. Now I wonder how much my condition was tied in to my diet, which consisted almost entirely of starch and sugar.

My roommate (btw his name is Martin) made a yummy dish with Italian sausage, peppers, onions and other veggies. He had it over pasta (a big huge bowl followed by a bowl of sugar cereal) and I had it over a half cup of brown/wild rice with a little tabouli salad on the side. It was really nice because he was considerate enough to cook something we could BOTH enjoy, with a little adjustment.

Rollerblading adventures! I did end up going last night after all, despite the rain. It was about 11 at night. Well, I was so tired that I fell twice for no discernable reason. The second time, I was going at my top speed and skidded on my a$$, leaving a huge strawberry (about the size of a dinner plate) on my butt below my shorts. It hurt so bad I was crying, but I kept on going. At 8 miles I was too tired to go on but I did another lap for a total of 10 miles. The auwie turned out to be a shallow one and not so bad.

Final problem: I got some diet Coke from Costco (two cases) and have drained like 12 cans in 3 days (EEK!) Normally I have about two cans a day. Not only is that stuff full of chemicals, but the artificial sweetness is dulling my senses and interfering with the careful monitoring that I have been doing on my hunger levels. So I’m puzzling over how to wean myself off of diet Coke. I think I shall finish off what I have and then make a big jug of peppermint tea or lemonade with a little Splenda. Then wean off the Splenda and drink my tea unsweet.

I talked to my boyfriend (??? for lack of a better term) whom I’m going to visit in D. C. He said he wants to buy a pair of rollerblades and we can skate along the river. It’s going to be so much fun!

This is a long post even for me, but I’m spending as much time here as I can because I MUST concentrate on work and won’t be back until at least Tuesday night. So I hope everyone gets the week off to a good start! Remember this is a way of life!

Much aloha,

Chris

Good Monday Morning Everyone!

I hope you all had a nice holiday if you celebrated Easter yesterday, for those of you who don't celebrate the holiday, hope your Sunday was pleasant.

So, I'd like to know from all of you who who took the weekly poll and were among those who listed that they have no idea how many grams of fiber they consume, and for those of you who know you consume too little, how you can become more aware of your intake. This will most definintely be beneficial in our efforts to lose weight in knowing this info. Any good ideas out there?

We have one birthday to recognize this week, on April 20th, it's BIGORANGE'S BIRTHDAY!!!!! Girl, how are you planning on celebrating your birthday on Friay????

Today is MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY and here's my contribution:

A CHANGE IN ATTITUDE

There is enormous power in the fact that something so all-encompassing as your attitude can be changed so quickly. Your world can be an entirely different place than the world you lived in a few moments ago when your attitude toward it changes.

The key thing to keep in mind about your attitude is that it is yours. Though anything can influence it, you control it. You have final authority over your attitude. By exercising that control, you can literally change your world.

You say there are certain things which put you in a bad mood. Yet the truth is that you put yourself in a bad mood. It is a way in which you choose to respond. What if you were to make a different choice? Those "bad mood" things would no longer have control over you, and your precious time could be used moving forward rather than feeling miserable.

You say there are things which put you in a good mood. Yet again, that is a choice you make. What if you were to choose it more often? Imagine the positive possibilities!

KAREN, glad to have you back safe and sound. Happy to hear you were basically able to stay OP while you were gone, not always easy to do, but the most important thing is to try:)

BIGO, thanks for the scale!!! Good luck on week 3 of no cigs!!!

OVERCOME, WOW, an hour on the treadmill, that's great! How fast do you set it to and do you do it on an incline. I have to give those who walk in hilly areas a lot of extra credit, we are so flat here, there is not a hill or hump to be found, so I don't get any "extras" when I walk. My goodness that is such an involved recipe Pete made, what in the world possessed him!?! I hate boiling water!!!!! Can't imagine doing something so involved-bet is was delicious!

ROSALIE, I was able to "chat" with QUILTER last night, via the AOL IM. It was choppy and I got feedback, but I guess that's how it goes. Now we have to figure out just why it didn't work between us!!!

SPARKLE, I usually don't have a problem with fiber, but some days, I just don't keep watch and hardly have any. We eat a LOT of beans in our house-I'm sure tonight hummus with be on the menu, Eli is home! Tabouli is VERY easy to make, so if you ever want to make it, just let me know. Your mushroom recipe sounds delicious-I will have to try it one day-I too love mushrooms. You will have the self control, trust me, you have it over many things already, you just need to work on the few other things-but how in the world you can obsess over shredded wheat, that I don't understand!

I have to get ready to go walk. I don't have to take Michael to school this week, so I get my walk in early. I'll check in with you all later today.

Have a wonderful week!!!!

A warm and humid Texas good morning. Hope everyones holiday was a good and safe one. I went to
my brothers for Easter lunch and had a legal meal. When I walked in there was a table of Easter candy
calling my name, but I held strong and didnt even touch it. So now I know it can be done.

Im on my way outside to get a little exercise, by mowing the front yard before it gets to hot.

I really enjoy reading all the posts, its almost like you guys are all family. I hope one day I can get
familiar with you all and answer each of you personally.

Is there anyone out there that plays golf. Can anyone help me with some conditioning exercises?
I find my back gets a little tight after a couple of swings. Ive been doing the driving range thing for
over year, and my hubbie thinks I need to actually play the game now, so Tuesday its off to play a
round of golf (9 holes). Im kinda excited!!!!!

oh well , hi ho hi ho its off to mow the lawn i go.

Have a good day....

Good Monday morning.... survived the Easter weekend, however the "bluebird of happiness" flew over my basket twice (not a good thing, you know what birds drop) - will explain when I get on the board later..... Gotta run to postoffice.. mailing taxes (have never been this late before)... it was definitely a sign that we had to pay!!!

Thinking of you all and the hurdles to get over on a holiday weekend.. or  .. who won out??

Morning Again!

Well, I was chatting with VIV and doing a post and the computer just logged me off and I lost everything, again. I can't understand how you all do things in word, it's annoying, so I once again, take my chances by doing it in my write mail program! Just have to remember to save it as I go along!

Had a great walk this morning. Got out there before 7am and even though the sun was not shining yet, I worked up quite a sweat. The new music really got me going! I got my 4.5 miles in just under 1 hour, not my best time, but still a good one, but oy, how my right tootsies hurt underneath for some reason-but hey, NO NEW BLISTERS!!!!

Eli is home safe and sound. Lucky no one at customs stopped him, as he brought some sausages and cheese home. Said the dog was right next to his luggage and sniffing. Luckily, he put the stuff between his dirty laundry:eek: so the dog probably took a whiff and ran the opposite direction! He did manage to bring me 1 chocolate bar that I had not seen before to add to my collection. It's made in France and called THURIES and is 80% Cocoa, the highest I've seen yet!!! He brought me my 222's which have a really long expiration date-2 bottles, good til 2004 & 2005, some great looking extra virgin cold pressed olive oil from Greece, 3 liters worth, and then just some odds and ends, but nothing as exciting as the chocolate!!!!

I went to the grocery store this morning and found that WHEATENA that I mentioned last week. Here's the nutritional information:

1/3 (this is dry), fat 1g/Carbs 33g/Fiber 5g/Protein 5g/Calcium 20%-the ingredients are: Toasted Crushed Wheat, Wheat Bran, Wheat Germ & Calcium Carbonate.

I decided to indulge and thought that the 1/3 cup didn't look like a lot, but trust me, this stuff is FILLING! I experimented with it, put a touch of salt, then decided to see how a little would taste with sweetener on it. In the end, I put 1/2oz of shredded cheese on it. It's really good-though if you eat slow like I do, it does tend to stiffen up quite a bit. I used less water so it was thicker, though next time I'll use the recommended amount. Next time I do think I may try it with agave nectar on it. I'm sure those of you who like using the SF maple syrup would like it on it. Anyhow, just wanted to share that find with you! Oh, I did find it at Publix, in the cereal isle, near the grits-$1.99 a box.

CATLOVER, way to go! You showed that you have good self control over that candy!! Proud of you! Have fun mowing the lawn, not something I ever do, so I give you a lot of credit!!! Sorry, I can't help you with the golf question, never understood that game:?:

VR, I always do my taxes late, haven't ever had to pay anything and pray to G-d that I don't this year either-had no income, how can they take anything from me anyway?!?

Okay, well, I guess I am going to get a few things accomplished before I go to pick up Michael this afternoon. I'll check in with you all later today.

Please remember TOMORROW IS CHAT AT 9:15PM EST Let's hope it's up and running this time!!!

It's cooler here in SW LA this morning...was 62 degrees when I got out & walked at 7:30. Did my 4 miles. I just realized this am that I exercised EVERY day last week! That is definitely a first for me!! :D

Yes, I was able to go to sunrise services yesterday am instead of working. It was held out in a garden area of the church surrounded by beautiful oak trees. Lovely area for such an occasion. Then I worked from 3-7pm last evening.

We went to my sister's for lunch. I did bring my wild/brown rice which I steamed & quick stir fried some zucchinni, yellow squash, bell peppers & red onions in small amount olive oil. My SIL had brought a cole slaw so I ate some of that with some of the B-B-Q'd meats, but did pass up the potaote salad, rice dressing, beans, & the cake sis made from scratch. She bakes & decorates cakes, so she's a pro...but :nono: I haven't been able to read all the posts from Sunday. Hope to finish reading those later, cause if I don't, I find that I miss out on somethings that I'd like to respond to. Sooooo, if I don't get you in this one, I will later when I finish reading.

LAMAP, Isn't it strange how we try & try, but our weight still stalls? I can relate to that too. And yes, even though I don't have an answer for it, I too had noticed in the past that sometimes eating something OFF plan caused a weight loss. I really have that tried that this time. It does get discouraging at times, but I feel that we need to hang tight & it will happen for us when the time is right. I can't wait till June, vacation time gets here. I LOVE walking along the beach in the early mornings & late afternoons while we're there. It's my favorite thing about vactioning there I believe.

FILLISE, Congrats on 5 sizes smaller...wow, that's a true success story.

CHERI, When things are not in your control, you just have to do the best you can with what you have, Hang in the & it will get better for you . Will keep you in my prayers.

SPARKLESCAMP, Sorry to hear you now have a blister. Hope it's better soon. I laughed last night as I left work cause a co-worked had 2 Cadbury eggs & I said " OOOOOOOH, Cadbury eggs" She said "Yes, have them both cause I'll just throw them away" Know what I said???? "NO THANKS" I was proud of myself. In answer to your question about breakfast, here are a few things I like. Oatmeal with 2 Tbsp SF Maple syrup (Thanks to Ashley ...her idea...it's great), slice of Ezekeil bread with almond butter or PB, Fruit smoothie (a combination of 2 or 3 of the following fruits...raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, papya & mango in blender with about 1/4 c O.J.), scrambled egg in WW tortilla roll up, 1/2c. Fiber One cereal with 1/2 c. cottage cheese & a dash of cinnamon. On work days, I eat at 6am, then have fruit about 9:30 or 10 to hold me till lunch. When I'm off, I don't have a set schedule.

RHOO, Sure hope your day went as planned & you were able to stay away from the :nono: items at lunch.

Debbie, The extra planning was well worth the effort for lunch yesterday. Yes, you sure can use shrimp in the place of crawfish in that etoufee recipe. And as far as the site, yes I noticed other recipes there that I want to try & I believe that you are the one that posted that site awhile back because they carry SB items in New Orleans...LOL Your chocolate account is just toooooo funny..

ROSALIE, Hope you had a good evening with your daughter. It's good to get away from the kids for a while, isn't it? I didn't know that AOL IM had voice chat!

BOB, So glad that you not only survived the Inspector General's visit, but actually enjoyed it too. Glad to hear that you are also surviving the Cigarette ordeal as well. Have a wonderful BD WEEK!

GATORGAL, That is how I do ALL my responses, with a WordPad window opened & viewing the board at the same time. That's the only way that it makes sense to me, then copy & paste into the reply window...LOL I also have cable connection & really do like it better than the phone modeum I had before. Thanks for the breafast idea of the homemade meusli. Since I have not had breakfast yet this am, I think I will try that with some frozen raspberries.

Well GALS, I'm off to the shower, then have to do last minute shopping for the Food Pantry Ministry that we do tomorrow. My helper is sick, so I have to get it all done today. Hope to get back on the board tonight & finishing reading for yesterday. Have a wonderful day!

Oh, motivational Monday I don't usally have one, but I had this thought on my mind this morning as I walked. If at first you don't succeed, try & try again. I know it's not an orginial, but it fits into this WOE. If it's worth doing, then keep trying till you get it right!

Well that is a first - just lost everything I typed :?:

Well Good Morning anyway SB Gang!

Whew - so many posts - so little time! :dizzy:

Well it is a new day and I am back on track this morning. I have already had an apple, and then 30 minutes later I had 2 pieces of SF wheat bread with butter and cinnamon and splenda on top, and then some Dannon Light N Fit yogurt - yummy. For lunch I will have a salad with grilled chicken on top. When we grilled yesterday for lunch I made sure there were plenty of left overs for lunch this week!

Somebody asked why I "chose" to not worry about staying OP on Friday at the fish fry. Well I had just made up my mind before going that I would eat what I wanted to and not think about staying OP for one meal. Looking back now it probably was not a good idea bec it messed me up for the rest of the day. Oh well - Live & Learn! :o There were things there that I could have eaten and stayed OP like green salad and a beautiful fruit salad for dessert but I just didn't. I love cheesecake and I just had it.

Honestly I have been dieting most of my life and sometimes I just get so tired of staying on this or that program. Thought that for one meal I would just forget about it.

Oh well it is a new day and a new week and I am back on track.

Thanks for all the great breakfast ideas you guys!

RodeoMom how did you do this weekend? Were you able to stay on program?

Question: I've seem Almond Butter mentioned here a couple of times - was just wondering where you guys find that stuff? Is it just around the regular butter in the grocery store? It sure sounds good!

I hope everybody has a great day and a great week!

Good Monday morning all :)

Just checking in to say Hi. This has to be a quick one as I have to eat lunch on time to-day as I am going to badminton at 1 o'clock. Had a good day yesterday. Went out for a steak dinner, and that was the one time when I had ONE thing off plan this weekend. Other times I stayed op but probably ate a little too much of some things. I'll try and work it off at badminton to-day. I did get in a walk yesterday. I just checked on the distance and it was 3.5Km. which was over 1Km more than my last walk. Haven't yet worked it out in miles. It was a good weekend for me, only having to cook one dinner in four days. This evening I am going to my son's in-laws for dinner.

Sparkle - Thanks for the tip about cooking the bacon ahead of time and freezing it. I think I will give it a try.

Debbie - I was reading the help files on IM and it explained how to get rid of the echo when using "talk". It said for both parties to use the headphones. If you don't use headphones the microphone picks up the voice from the speaker and relays it back. Does Quilter have AOL? I don't use AOL, only IM. I don't know why you would have a problem using a word proc. program for typing in your posts. As long as you save every couple of minutes, or after each reply that you type, you won't lose the whole thing if your computer crashes. I usually click back and forth between the two screens. I find this the easiest for reading the posts as I type replies. I am one that doesn't know how much fibre I consume; but then I don't know how much protein and carbs either unless I am posting the info on Fitday which I just do once in a while. I think I am getting enough fibre, I frequently eat beans and lentils and green veggies, also cereals and fruit. I had a good laugh at your description of you eating the chocolate also of Eli coming through customs.

Melf - Glad to hear you were able to go to the sunrise service and it sounds like you did very well food-wise, staying op. Way to go on the walking too. Congrats on managing to exercise EVERY DAY. That's great. I wish I was able to say the same. I've been slipping a bit lately with the exercises although I have managed to get in a couple of walks. I just found out about AOL voice chat after reading one of Kim's old posts. You just have to click on the sound icon at the bottom of the buddy screen to activate it.

Gotta run.

Bye.

Marie.

Good Monday Morning -

Just got on the scale and it looks like I'm down 3 pounds over vacation. Hopefully that will stick or maybe even go lower by WIW!

SolShine - I, too, was diagnosed with PCOS long ago before there was much known about it. I found a lot of info at www.pcosupport.org. They have a wonderful discussion board you may want to check out.

Barbee - Wow, what an experience at the wedding. Hope you have a good, relaxing week to recover.

Quilter - I waved to you when we drove around Cincinnati on the way home.

I don't remember who from the board lives in Indiannapolis, but we came home on I-74. Didn't realize there was construction coming from the east, and screwed up on the detour. Found ourselves right downtown. Luckily, I had a road atlas with a detailed map of town and got us to 16th Ave and out of town. My husband was not too happy to be downtown, lost, at 9 p.m. We survived and kept driving to Crawfordsville. That was a long day in the car - 11 hours!

SparkleScamp - Isn't it strange how those headaches have abated since getting rid of the sugar. I never would have thought it was the cause, but I haven't had any since the middle of January. And I used to get them so that I wanted to throw up. I was starting to wonder if they were migraines, but they were never pounding headaches, just steady pain. So glad they are gone!

MargaretA - Congrats on the engagement. All the best to you both! Keep us informed on your plans - love to hear about other's wedding plans!

BOB - what can I say but WAY TO GO! You're right, concentrate on taming the cig cravings and the food will come later if necessary. Don't do anything to sabbotage the progress you've made because it would be so hard to give them up again!

Deb - don't know if I should bring this up 'cause I might not want to be reminded, but my birthday is on the 19th. I debated whether or not to mention it, but then decided, what the heck. Last year my birthday occurred while we were on vacation and my husband didn't even get me a card ('cause we were on vacation so he didn't know where to get one - AHEM!!) Then my son didn't even wish me a happy birthday. I was bummed all day, waiting for him to remember it, and I think the reason was because I go out of my way to plan things for their birthdays and make a big deal of them. (Can you tell my feelings were REALLY hurt?) But, I think it fell into the steriotypical roles of the mom who goes out of her way to keep the family humming and the rest of the family drops the ball! Oh well, hope this year will be different. Sorry that was such a long comment.

I also, humbly, think you need to do something different in your exercise routine to come out of a plateau (unless you are truly following your own pattern and lose this week). From all the literature, weight lifting/resistance is the way to go. Another thing you could try is Tae Bo. It's a great workout as long as you are careful not to overextend your elbows and knees.

Now that I'm back in the swing of things, I hope to reply more individually. This board is so busy, but I'll try. Welcome to all the newbies - you came to the right spot!

Have a great SB day!

Hi, sleepy and tired...that's me. I'm glad I don't have to go to work today. I had a great trip to New Orleans, except for my insanity in eating everything in sight. I may be a little TOO laid back with this SB stuff. My son and his GF took me to Vaquero's for Easter brunch, and they had all kinds of southwestern goodies. Including roast baby goat...sounds icky but was actually pretty good. The chips and salsa, the breakfast breads, the desserts, I was delirious with insulin before it was over!

I haven't read anything except today's posts, so here are a few responses:

SPARKLE: I, too, am hooked on diet Coke. I think it's the caffeine. It's a recent thing, though, and I don't understand why I have fallen into that trap.
I also have a hard time sitting still for long periods, but thankfully I don't have to. As a teacher, I am on the move constantly, and at home there is plenty to do without having to sit around too much.

DEB: Okay, I will definitely CHOOSE to have a good attitude. You are right, we can't depend on others to get us motivated. Also, I've been AFK a lot, so where did Eli go?

CATLOVER: Good for you, golf! I took that as a PE course in college, then never really played after that. It is almost too hot in the summer, so now is a good time to get started.

VR: If you're getting your taxes mailed this early, I think you are doing great. I have had to file extensions in the past, so I am just happy to get mine done at all.

MELF: Glad it's cooler there. I nearly died when I got out of the car in New Orleans. You wouldn't think there would be such a difference in that end of the state. It's very nice here today.

CATHYCATHY: I feel the same as you about going off plan...I could have had omelet and salad and been really happy, but I didn't. I'm not worrying about it today though. Also, I think the almond butter is like peanut butter, but made of almonds. I would recommend making your own, it's quite expensive.

ROSALIE: Where do you play badminton? Do people have courts at their homes, or is it in a club? We don't have that here, although I have played before and it's a lot of fun. Much better than tennis IMHO.

KAREN: THanks for your good wishes on the upcoming marriage. We have been apart for the long weekend, as he visited his son in Kentucky and I visited mine in New Orleans. We are thankful that from now on, we will be visiting them all together. He has WONDERFUL children, all grown thankfully. Congratulations on losing weight over a holiday...you are very disciplined obviously!

BOB: How great to celebrate your birthday with no cigarettes! In case I don't get back on here, Happy Birthday in advance!

I've been missing reading all the posts. If I seem to be skipping people in my replies, it's because I just looked at todays posts that were done before I got here. For everyone else, I do love reading yours. But this takes a lot of time, and I"VE GOT TO GO MAKE BREAD!!! That's my new favorite thing to do, and I must get started. I cannot think of a single motivational thing to say, unless it's just to remember that we are heading toward the summer ON PLAN. Whether we look the way we want to or not, we are doing something about our attitudes and our HEALTH.

GOOD MONDAY MORNING LADIES:)

Gee I'm glad things are back to normal, What ever that is :spin: My Life is never boring.

I haven't had a chance to go back and read all the post and I really don't seem to find the time to do so, so I'll go on from here. I hae found there were a few things I should have posted Yesterday and forgot. so here goes.

Hall: Please forgive me for not welcoming you sooner, I really want to throw out the welcome mat, this is a great board and these are a great group of gals with alot of support to give.

Melf: Wow isn't it a wonderful age to be at. I keep telling my daughter that she should wish she was born when I was, things were alot easier then , It's a different world now. Alot more complicated and mixed up.

Ann: hey girl how you doing, Sorry it's been awhile sence I've been able to get on and write to everyone. This last wk was a joy, and the pits at the same time, there were partys and deaths all rolled up in the same wk. It's hard to be happy and greive at the same time.
Hope your wk went better.

Deb: As for the bigger and better things the way I look at it is, Smaller and better things. I'm just funning you.

A Cautionary Tale for Motivational Monday

OK, so Lent is over and I'm really wanting some chocolate. I didn't touch anything in the kid's Easter baskets, and I've been so good for so long, that once I got off the plane today I decided that a little chocolate wouldn't hurt me. So I bought a candy bar and two (!) boxes of Milk Duds. I ate the candy bar--and was into the Milk Duds when it happened--the Milk Dud took a major portion of one of my back teeth. Will see the dentist at 8:30 am tomorrow morning. I figure the crown will run me between 500-600 dollars. So here's my motivational thought--
GOD WILL GET YOU IF YOU GO OFF PROGRAM!!!!!!!

Sincerely,

A chastized and very humble Susan

I’m a member of the ever-lurking not always posting to everyone club. Nothing personal. You ladies are all awesome in my book and if I could I would respond to everyone. Just a few quickies before I have to run to the grocery store…..

IDBLOND – Thanks for checking in with us! We’ll be believing with you for a speedy recovery! Craving veggies and eggs? LOL!! I thought I’d never like spinach and mushrooms either. : )

CONFESSION – Cadbury Egg fan here, too!! I used to eat them till I was sick. I have sucessfully passed up the temptation this year. : grin :

DEBBIE – We made your “spank your pita” (not even going to attempt to spell that one!) recipe. I’m manging on it for lunch and it’s very yummy!! Enjoyed your chocolate stories!! LOL Thanks for sharing those!

SPARKLE – I’m working on an e-mail for you. I’m trying to save my time for here for non-work hours too and, as busy as I am right now it’s easy today – but not normally! I’ll post my b’fast from this morning for you: quiche, with ham and swiss cheese we made yesterday so we would have no-brainer breakfast with 1 cup of cereal.

GATORGAL – Good to see you back on the board! Glad to hear you’re doing well!! I’ll be in touch for lunch one day soon!

BOB – Hang in there!!! I’m soooo proud of you!!! I KNOW how hard it is to quit and am pulling for you! Congrats on feeling ready to step down on your dose!!! That must mean you are doing really well!!

KAREN – Thanks for the info on PCOS! I’m really pulling for this WOE and the glucophage to do what no other diet has done. The Vaniqa is awesome!!! I’ve told my mom and aunts about it and insisted they go get some for their chins and necks. They’re gonna love me!!

I have to confess – Friday is PIZZA DAY in our Department. The company buys us pizzas for lunch every Friday (great place to work, huh?) Anyway, I indulged on Friday and by the end of the work day I had a killer headache and had to lie down when I got home. Think it had anything to do with eating off plan? I do! Needless to say, I won’t be partaking anymore in the pizza days – unless I do the topping idea someone used earlier (sorry I can’t remember who). You ladies have not a few awesome recipes on these boards! I’ll try to add some of our favorite SB-friendly recipes this week, too.

I’m getting into the weightlifting things also and I have found the coolest website – it’s set up by a girl and has great easy to understand information and “how to” photos, etc. http://www.stumptuous.com/weights.html I can’t speak highly enough of it. SPARKLE – she seems to have your energy and enthusiasm!

CAT – You ARE family here!! I don’t know squat about golf, but can ask my wonderful hubby about good back exercises. See the above link and I’m sure there’s lots of good info there, too.

I have to run….Have a great evening everyone!!

Afternoon Everyone!

Not much going on here-just hotter than heck here today-so glad I got my walk in early. Eli is working til midnight so I won't be seeing him til tomorrow. He's off tomorrow-YEAH!! Can't wait to finally have some time alone with him!!!

MELF, congrats on exercising every day last week, you did far better than I did! How many miles did you actually log over the course of the week? You must be feeling awesome! That's great that you were able to enjoy yourself yesterday and stay OP-I always try my best to plan ahead. My entire family knows how committed I am to this WOE and I have no qualms of taking food that I can have if there is nothing there I can eat. I drill my family about ingredients used in cooking and if they bought something and don't know what's in it, I won't eat it. I'm a fanatic at times and probably go overboard, but I really want this so badly, I don't care what they may think!!:) Thanks for the motivational thought, it's an oldie, but a goodie!!

CATHY2, welcome to the "I lost my post" club-I can surely sympathize with you on that event! The best almond butter I have found is MARANTHA, which they have a many HFS, yet, it's half the price at a Trader Joes, so I try to stock up when I go to one (like buying 6 jars at once). I would say, if you have a HFS in your area, like Wild Oats, I know mine has a fresh grinder there with almonds, but you can always make your own by throwing some roasted almonds in the food processor-nothing but almonds-it's sooo yummy!!!

ROSALIE, how was your badminton game? Okay for those of us that are older and don't have a clue about metrics, what is 3.5K equaled to in the States? Thanks for the tip on the echos on AOL, I did use a headphone, but not sure if QUILTER did, will have to find out. QUILTER isn't on AOL, she uses another server. It sounds like you do get enough fiber, esp. if you eat beans. Glad you had a laugh with the chocolate, I'm sure I must be a sight for anyone watching me:lol: Eli's been lucky twice with customs. When he came back from Lebanon last year, he had a slew of stuff in his luggage, which didn't get back with him, so they had to deliver it to the house, hence, no customs!!!

KAREN, congrats on being down 3lbs-that's awesome to come back from a vacation showing a loss! Honestly, I thought your birthday was earlier in April, but I'm sure glad you mentioned that it was this Thursday! I posted it above with BIGO'S day-everyone should have their bdays recognized! That is, except mine when I turn 40! Girl, I can totally understand how you feel about having your b.day forgotten like it was last year-I am the same as you, I make plans and buy cards and gifts way ahead of time, and if I'm forgotten, I feel bad. Not that I want anything at all, but it's nice to be remembered. Like for Mother's Day, my kids usually don't get me anything cause I always tell them I don't want anything, but deep down, I'd sure like it if they'd take a hint and when they see I'm interested in something that they get it-usually, it's just a couple dollars really. Whenever I see they have interest in something, I'll buy it later and put it away in my little store (closet), so come a b.day or Hanukkah, I have things I know they really want. I'm sure you understand. I know I have to change my routine, and I do have the tae bo tapes, but I don't like doing it. I'm thinking about maybe joining the gym over the summer. As it rains so much here it's hard to get in my walking, maybe this would motivate me a bit to do something else.

MARGARET, roast baby goat? What is that similar in tasting like? I like goat cheese but not sure I could stomach a baby goat. LOL! Okay, I must ask, what does AFK mean, I must be so dense! Eli went to Cananda, Montreal to be exact, to visit his sister and his brother who came in, as well as other family. I wanted to go, but stayed home:(

GLORY, if you only KNEW how many bars of chocolate I had, you'd die laughing-I'd say close to 20 now!!!! Hmm, are you implying I should maybe share? Thanks for keeping track, Karen did finally admit to having a birthday this week!!!

FILLISE, oh my gosh-what can I say! There was devine intervention maybe when that Milk Dud hit your back tooth? See, your mistake was saying a little candy, which could of been the chocolate bar-the 2 boxes of Milk Duds where not part of the plan of being a little candy! Oh my, that much money for going off plan-I'm sure to stay OP forever, I couldn't afford having that happen to me-and I do like MD's! Hope all goes well tomorrow at the Dentist-I wouldn't wish that on anyone, no matter how much they cheated.

SOL, I love spankopita-I think that's how you spell it. I should try to make it, I have a recipe from my cousin and I also found WW phyllo dough!!!! Pizza will do that to you-it only takes one time like that to not do it again! Will e-mail you later!

Going to go see what I can throw on the table and call "dinner" now. I'll check in with you all probably after "Everybody Loves Raymond!"

Here's my motivational contribution for the day.
"Big goals get big results. No goals gets no results or somebody else’s results." MVH

SolShine--Try taking a WW pita loaf or WW tortilla to work on Friday and scraping the toppings off the Domino’s or whatever they get and piling it on your own pita. Scraping 2 pieces of pizza onto your own bread would make a wonderful lunch.

Margaret--I can identify somewhat with your saying that maybe you are TOO LAID BACK on the SB WOE. It’s probably true, and instead of really being too laid back, you have not really started on the commitment. I did that. Just kinda “tinkered around” with SB but in reality was “cheating” all the time so that I had the knowledge in my head but not the actions in my life. I didn’t want to face the fact that I was gonna have to truly make some changes to see a difference in my weight. I wanted to think that if I just did a bit of SB, that would be enough and I would lose the weight that way. NOT. So, think about your goals, and why you want to make changes. Actually, think about IF you want to make changes. I finally had to deal with that, and it took almost a year for me to start getting some sanity into my eating life.

Well, I just got back from lifting the weights. I think I was tired from yesterday. I walked those 2 miles pretty fast, for me! I couldn’t do as well as the time before, and felt so “dead” that I almost sauntered on the TM. Oh well, there are days and there are days.

Gotta go. Have lots of planning work to be done. Take care.

Just a few replies.

OVERCOME, Yes, I stayed OP. Your dinner & your DH sound fabulous! Good husbands are hard to come by. Your sounds like a jewel. LOL

CATHYCATHY Sorry you're having such a bad time with the brown rice. Have you tried it in a steamer? What are you seaoning it with? I add a chicken boullion cube, are a vegetable cube that I found at the HFS. That may make a difference in the taste also.

GATORGAL, Re. the page numbers, there are page numbers at the bottom of the screen, but it is a list of page numbers. For example << < 5 6 7 8 > >>
Those are the only page numbers I see and I can’t figure out which of those pages I’m on.

If you bring your mouse pointer over the numbers, the pointer will change to a hand unless it's the page that you are on. That's how you can tell where you are.

KAREN, Glad to hear that you made it back home safely & that you stayed OP while you were away.

Debbie, In regards to the fiber question, I voted 10-20 gms which was pretty much of a quess since I don't always write what I eat, but I come pretty close I think. I sure got a  from your story about Eli's smuggling the saugage in his dirty laundry. you're too much!

Total for last week:
Walked 10.5 miles
Cardio 74 minutes, 2135 pulls/reps, burned 376 cals

CATLOVER Glad to hear that you were able to pass up the candy yesterday. Hey, I'll be pretty close to your neck of the woods this coming Saturday. We'll be in Dayton, TX for Dayton Ole Tyme Days Sat & Sun. Two of my daughters will be singing for the 3rd year there. They call themselves "Moma's Pride". Now I did not chose this name for them...they did it own their own. We are also going to be helping out this year with the Goat Dressing Contest. The kids loved it last year, so We were asked to help out with registration. We always have such a good time there. It's a town wide effort to raise scholarship money for local kids.

ROSALIE, I don't see the talk option on my AIM, I probably need to update it. Will check into that.

GLORYB! Yes, I agree. Things were so much more simple in OUR day. It seems as though things are sooooooo different, so complicated for our children & grandchildren. They seem to think I'm a little demented when I talk about how things were when I grew up. Oh well.... :D

FILLISE, OMG!!! What a thing to happen!? I had to  at your new signature. I'm so sorry to hear your sad tale.

Been missing a few regulars, like Kim/Quilter, Viv, & others. Hope all is ok with all of you?

DAY 15......no smokey the ciggy!!!! :nono:

FEELIN FINE I MUST SAY!!! Tomorrow is my last big dose patch, then I'm starting the step down. I went ahead and bought all that I need. I'm doing a month on
each of the remaning two steps...The way I feel right now, that should do it! (I HOPE :D )
As for staying on program, I've not too bad, but I've not done real good either..BUT, I will worry about that after the cravings stop
THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF YOU...I read your praise every day and it sure does keep me going!

As for the upcoming BIRTHDAY It sure does feel good to know that I will finally turn 21!!
Thanks to all who gave the early wishes As for plans, my nephew told me yesterday we were going out to dinner...Sam Seltzers I believe...home of the lb of prime rib for $11.95 I usually get the grilled salmon..it's good....not as good as OUTBACK, but good...I'll let you know how it goes and everything that happens...

Got to go, everything I watch is new tonight...Have a good rest of the evening...

Hi, I used to post as, "icesktfn", but I stopped posting, and forgot my password, so here I am as "iceskatefan". I am from New Orleans, and was excited to see other "Louisianians" had joined the board. I am a "on again-off again" SB'er. The doctor put me on SB for medical problems-not for weight loss, and I just can't seem to stay on for longer than a few weeks at a time, and then I fall off, and start the cycle all over again. I am always so impressed at how well most of you seem to be so dedicated!!!
I just recently read Schwarzbein's book, "The Schwarzbein Principle", and realized that I am not alone in having carbo cravings, and that it takes time to get off completely. Someone on this board suggested that I read this last year, and it took me this long to actually do. So, to whomever: {{{{{HUGS}}}}} for the suggestion. Maybe, I can actually be successful this time around!
So, here I am again...
I didn't prepare a motivational saying today...and can't promise that I will be a daily poster, but I will try. I thank all of you for just being here. I hope that in time I can be as helpful to you as you all are to me.

Hi Everybody!!!!!

I’m back. Man, did I miss you all last week!!! So sorry I wasn’t on, but really and truly ran out of time. We had a great weekend. Celebrated anniversary number 5. But since there was a curfew at 8 pm we had to stay home instead of going out. Bummer. Then spent Friday and Saturday at my brother’s house. They are really supporting me with my sb eating. SIL told me to bring my ww flour so that we could use it instead of the icky stuff. Also they were very great about making sure I had enough to eat at every meal. It was wonderful. I was 100% faithful to sb all weekend. That felt great!!! Wish the scales would have noticed all my hard work this morning, but they are ignoring that and keeping me at the same spot.

Here’s another thing . . . today at least 3 people brought in all their leftover Easter **** and dumped it right in the middle of the office. I was pretty ticked. Just throw it away for crying out LOUD!!!!! Anyways about halfway through the day I got sick of looking at it and I picked it all up and put in sort of out of the way. At least it wasn’t under my nose. Anyways, I didn’t eat any of it . . . there was also two kinds of cake. Ugh!!! Anyways, now that I got through the day without succumbing I’m not so mad that they brought it in. Funny how it’s all about ME!!! Ha!!!!!

So now I am SO BEHIND on reading the posts. Think I’ll start with today’s and then try and go back later in the week to catch up on last week’s. So sorry if any of you have written anything to me that I haven’t answered. It is unintentional for sure.

CATLOVER---Here’s a late WELCOME from a delinquent chick!!! Glad you are here with us and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to officially welcome you at the very beginning. Way to go on giving the Easter candy the cold shoulder. That’s such a cool feeling to give yourself a pat on the back after you don’t give in. Isn’t it???

Okay DEB . . . who is going to eat the food that Eli had wrapped his his undies???? Doesn’t sound all that appealing. HA!

MELF---You are the exercise queen!!! Every day last week? That’s awesome!!! I’ll bet it was nippy doing those four miles this morning. Kept going fast to keep warm?

ROSALIE---Hey!!! I don’t use AOL, just IM. That’s why I have the little globe by my name in your buddy list. People who use AOL only have the blue triangle. Yes, my husband and his brother use the headphones and it works much better. No echo at all. If DEB and I were going to do a full fledged gab session, I’d have suggested that. It was kind of weird hearing myself on her computer. Hey, I got my Rodney Yee tapes today. As soon as I finish here I’m going to go check out the PM one. He doesn’t do the pm, just the am. Some woman does the pm. I’m sure she’s just as good as Rodney. Also can’t remember if I told you that I signed up for a yoga class at the nearby hospital. Wednesday nights. Hope I’m not the biggest cluts in the room.

KAREN---Three pounds on vacation???? You are extremely incredible and I am so happy for you!!! That’s so hard to stay on track while vacationing. You did it!!!!! SUPER!!!! Wish we could have met while you circled Cinti. Good thing you went around . . . all the unrest here is not very inviting for tourists and drive through people. Makes me sad to know that you were here and I missed you. We were probably out of town anyways. My timing is terrible!!! BTW, you are down 20 pounds in less time than I’ve done my 13. You are really working hard and it’s certainly paying off for you. Let’s imagine how many sticks of butter you have lost. 20 times 4 . . . that would be EIGHTY STICKS OF BUTTER OFF YOUR BOD!!!!! Awesome!!!

FILLISE---Wow!!! That really “bites” about your tooth breaking. (Sorry for the pun!) But I do want you to know that I took your example of how dangerous it is to go off program. Hope the dentist can work magic and that it’s not even one little bit owwy.

STARCHASER---Have a great trip!! We’ll miss you.

GATOR---Really liked your motivation today. Sounds simple, but is so true and so much what I need to hear.

BOB---Way to go, you EX-smoker!!! That is so great that you are going strong. I think of you daily and keep my fingers crossed for you. Sending you some congrats hugs right now.

ICESKATEFAN---Welcome, welcome, welcome!!! Good to have you back with us. You’ll get tons of support here and we’ll all send good thoughts your way that you’re able to reach your goal. Thanks for posting your picture. It’s nice to have faces with names.

Well, gals, it’s truly so good to be back. I know I’ve missed so much good stuff and bits of wonderful wisdom from you. Hopefully this week’s schedule will be back to normal. I’m going to go check ou tmy new yoga tape and I’ll report on it tomorrow. There’s an am workou and a pm workout. Maybe this will help with the sleeping. Bye everyone.

Take Care!

It's me, Frog, have to say goodbye to Norma Jean tomorrow when I take the wig back!

It was a blast! I have some Polaroids that I will scan at work tomorrow. Mr. HB took them after the party to you can't see the dress and all that and I don't think there were any other pics except for the video which I am afraid to see! He was not surprised by the party but he was by the whole Marilyn thing!

I lost my mind Saturday and bought some cookies and thought that I would only eat one. HA!!! I felt like an alcoholic looking for a drink! Now I know how BOB must feel about those smokes! I took what was left of them to work today and placed them in the breakroom. Lesson learned! I also can't help but wonder if the Zyrtec I was on for a few days was making my appetite go ape! I stopped taking it and went back to the Allegra because the Zyrtec made me so sleepy I could hardly hold my head up at 4:00 in the afternoon and I wasn't sleeping well. Today was better with being OP and energy level.

I am dreading WIW for the first time in months. Preparing for TOM and with the cookie fiasco, who knows what kind of damage I've done! YIKES! Live and learn.

Talked to Winnie on Sat. I hope y'all will contact her.

I admit that I haven't read the posts from today. I did go back and read some from Fri-Sun. Hope all had a very nice Easter and Passover holiday.

Well, gotta go give hubby some time too. Looking forward to chatting tomorrow.

Peace,
Frog

Hi Everyone!
I went shopping today & decided to buy a few new items of clothing since mine is kind of getting too big! :D You know, my weight may not be going down alot, but I am certainly loosing inches. During Christmas holidays, I was wearing size 16 jeans. Well, I bought a 12 last week & they really are loose. Today I bought a size10! I also saw that WalMart is now carrying Nurse's uniforms, so I kicked up a med top & med pants to try on. When I tried the pants I found that they were pretty loose, so I went back & got a small. I even  because I thought to myself....they'll never fit. I was wrong!!! They are in the wash right now  Enough about me, but couldn't help but share that exciting news with all you gals.

iceskatefan Welcome to the board. My, another LA girl... glad to see you are joining us and I hope you stick around to get to know us. You will find lots of support here.

 I has been a very hard day today and I felt like indulging myself into some of the easter eggs left... I want to eat my feelings away... as usual.

I turned our 10 months old dog into the pound today because we can't handle him anymore. Its causing me major stress headaches and all we do is trying to get the dog to comply and we finally came to the conclusion that we can't do this anymore. We just don't have the time to go out and let him roam for hours on end....

It hurts and I want to eat, eat, eat. I know it will only make me feel like sh** tomorrow when I look at the scale, but it feel so comforting when I stuff myself with Chocolate... I hate this....

I just read some messages and I think I will head to bed... without the eggs. Not even one. I can do it... I can make it through this.....

Good evening all

Thought I would get in a quick post before heading off to bed. Have to be up and out early in the morning - working the day shift. Hopefully I can lurk and read the posts while I am at work. Had a good workout at badminton to-day - played about five games. Feeling kind of pooped right now and ready for bed.

Debbie - A km is about 6/10 of a mile. So 3.5km is about 2.2 miles. I was wondering if the reason I couldn't talk to you the other day was because I didn't have "SB SuperChick" on my buddy list. I've added it to the list. Maybe we can try again sometime.

Kim - Hope you enjoy your yoga tapes. I'd be interested to know what they are like. Who's Rodney Yee? Is he the guy that was on the Oprah show? I checked out my buddy list for IM but I don't see any globes or triangles by the buddy names. Maybe I have a different edition of IM.

Iceskatefan - Welcome to the board. Hope to get to know you soon.

BigO - Way to go on the NO CIGGYS. Good luck with the new patches.

Melf - That's great that you are down three sizes. Doesn't it make you feel good?

MargaretA - I play badminton in the local seniors centre (55 and over). I don't have to join a club, just pay a small annual fee to belong to the centre. It's a drop-in program which runs three days a week. You see there are some advantages to being a senior!

Gotta go. Will check in to-morrow.

Bye

Marie.

Good Morning Everyone!

I wasn't able to get back to the board last night. Michael had a ton of homework and I finally went to sleep instead of waiting to see when he'd get off the computer.

Got in my walk today, really had no desire to go, but went anyhow. It is dark and overcast with the threat of rain here-such a beautiful day! I say that only because it's a tad cooler and this weather is going to bring a cold front tomorrow morning-a relief from the 90's we've had in the last week!

My weight is still up, 5 days in a row-needless to say, I'm NOT happy!

BIGO, keep up the great work on the cigs, I'm sure they are behind you now. Afterwards, you'll pick up where you left off to be back OP. Ummm, if you're 21, I'm the Queen of England-now, if you would of said, just turning 40, then I would back you up! I think Sharon has been to that Sam Seltzers before, and I believe she said it was good. Is that in Tampa? I'm sure you will enjoy it!

ICESKATE, WELCOME TO OUR BOARD! You are right there are quite a few gals from LA, I think you are all overtaking the board from those of us in FL.:) Is it possible that you go off plan after a few weeks because you don't fully allow your body to detox from the sugars and refined products? I know for many, if you follow the plan 100% you WILL not have the cravings that make many go off plan, so maybe if you stick it out, do it 100%, you will be able to stick with it more than a few weeks. Just my 2 cents. We are all here and willing to help you in any way!!!! Again, welcome to the board!

QUILTER, Happy Anniversary a little late. Glad to hear they finally lifted the curfews there, hope things can get back to normal now. Honey, I'm right there with you, I've been "stuck up" and remain stuck up, no matter WHAT I do-so your in good company. Hmmm, I don't think Eli specified WHICH food was wrapped in undies-hopefully, it's not something I'd want to eat in the first place!

FROG, can't wait to see your pics! Sounds like you had fun playing Marilyn! I get like that, need carbs, carbs, carbs during those TOM, that I seem ravenous-next time you find you really need to get something like that, look for Joseph's cookies. They are really good, made with WW flour, and malitol. Glad to hear you spoke to Winnie, what did she think?? Love the frog!!!!:)

MELF, you go girl! Size 10!!! WOO HOO!!!!! That must be an incredible feeling for you.

CHERI, hope you feel better, allergies can really be the pits!

CATSRULE, sorry to hear about your dog. My sister went through the same thing when she got a puppy from the pound. It was harder than she thought, along with having 2 little ones, she just couldn't commit to the dog and felt it was best while it was still young. I hope you will be able to look forward and not console yourself with food-I've learned long ago, it only helps for the moment, so we think. Keep us informed and here's a big {{{{HUG}}}}

ROSALIE, thanks for the metric explanation! That's a nice walk for you! I don't keep the AOL IM up, but if I see you on my buddy list, I'll let you know if I'm on the computer-would love to chat!

Got to run, Eli is off today-have yet to see him more than 5 minutes since he's been back. I'll check in with you all later.

Please remember, TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!!

Good morning!

I hope everyone had a HAPPY EASTER weekend! I've been trying to read all the posts, and am just now finding time to sit down and write one myself!

Sat. & Sun. were not exactly good days for me :( I guess I didn't do too bad....it could have been worse. Saturday night I ate pizza at my inlaws.....I really felt guilty about it and should have spoken up and fixed myself something else. I didn't want to "rock the boat", if you know what I mean. I really need to work on my planning ahead for situations like that.

Sunday lunch could have been really bad, but I did okay considering the TONS of food my family had. We had a big family dinner at my sister's house and I think almost everyone there brought some type of gooey dessert (except me :) ) I did manage to eat mostly turkey and vegetables, with a little spoonful of dressing. I skipped all the cakes and pies for dessert but must admit, I did eat 2 brownies. I knew I wanted a dessert and took a long time deciding which would be the least damaging. I know, I know, not having anything would have been better, but at least I stopped after having my "brownie fix".

Life has certainly gotten busy lately....both my children (son, 10 and daughter, almost 8) are playing baseball. My son's team starts their regular season tonight. (Yes, this is the son w/leukemia....... I'm so proud of him for being able to play, and it does him a ton of good to be out there!). This could be a big problem if I don't plan ahead.... in the past, we've always had to eat at the ballfield because we will be down there from about 5:30 - 9:00 watching all the games. Supper has in the past consisted of chicken strips, fries, hamburgers.....you get the picture. Any suggestions?!?

Have a great day!

Lisa

Hi Guys....

I just wanted to check in and say hi. I've been distracted lately and between pressures at work and issues with my father, posting has really fallen by the wayside.

Plan-wise, I have been doing my meals 100% OP but sinning terribly with the Easter chocolate and snacks. That has stopped now - I am still up two from the trip and this continued binge and really hope I have brought it under control NOW. Yesterday was perfect and today will be too.

I have initiated cleaning plans in my house for the kids (DH is a longer project, LOL) so currently my house is clean and we have temporarily weathered the cleaning lady crisis. FYI for all you MOMS out there, here is a great kid cleaning idea - I set the timer for 5 minutes and told them to just go attack their rooms for 5 m inutes. When the timer went off they were still cleaningbut I made them stop. Wow, 5 minutes made a huge difference! So we will incorporate dusting and the playroom into their 5 minute plan.

And now the biggie...my Dad has to have surgery on his lung...I had suggested he have it here with the recup as well but there are issues with flying (bad air in the plane), recuperation...and it seems the doctor they have found in san francisco is pretty impressive. So I may have to go and spend some time out there (anyoen know anyone in SF?)...right now I am in limbo about everything and I HATE limbo - not a good place for me. I am experiencing typical "Caregiver" feelings of being pulled in too many directions, and anger that everyone depends on me, etc.....everything you've read about. Oh, and the oncologist told my father "If you don't have this surgery, you have 9 months to live". Just like on TV, huh....:(

Anyway, wanted to give you the update, as scary as it is. I'l be back (and still OP!)

Viv

I’m counting down the days to VACATION!! Vince and I are going to the GatorNationals in Gainesville, FL on Saturday and then we’re heading off to Columbia, SC for the rest of the week. Vince graduated from USC and lived there for 10 years. I’ve never been so he’s going to give me the grand tour of his old stomping grounds. I’m really looking forward to it. Vince likes to eat pretty healthy and he’s very supportive of eating SB style, so I’m expecting he will help me stay on plan.

I’m afraid to weigh in tomorrow, but will face the music. I KNOW I haven’t been getting enough fiber lately. I haven’t noticed any difference and I’ve been pretty good, except for the pizza. Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions. I think I’ll try the scraping/pita thing. I just LOVE pizza and it will be very hard to say no, but this WOE and my long term health is more important at this point – if I don’t notice any difference doing the pita thing then I’m going to have to “Just say NO!”

I use the 10 min. boil in bag rice. Is that bad? I’m terrible at portions and waiting for my rice and this seems to be the no-brainer way to cook.

ASHLEY that strawberry salad does sound divine! I’m going to have to try that one, too! Did you put it on the recipe thread?

SPARKLE – We do our budget at home on an Excel spreadsheet. We have different categories for “Household” (groceries, Wal-Mart stuff, etc.), Rent, Entertainment, Clothes/Shoes, Phone, Auto Insurance, Gas, Savings, etc… It’s easy and you can really see the money grow in different categories if you’re saving for something. If you want a copy of what we use I’ll be happy to share. I like it ‘cause we take a little bit out of each paycheck for the different categories and don’t have to spend ¾ of one paycheck on rent that way and then starve until the next paycheck (which is what I did before being married). As for soft drinks: I’ve started buying a 6-pack on my weekly shopping and then bring ONE can to work with me and that’s my “sweet” stuff for lunch. I can drink it with lunch, but mostly savor it as a “dessert” drink. That way I still get to have my soft drink, but it’s only 1 a day and the rest of the time I drink my water or (rarely) hot green tea.

MELF – Standing ovation for you!!! Congratulations on your successes with the working out every day!!! Your stamina, endurance and determination are contagious!

DEBBIE – I got the recipe off one of the monthly recipe threads here at SB Central. I thought you were the one who posted it, but maybe not. It’s very good and I’ve shared it with a few of the ladies here in the office after I smelled the place up at lunch. :) Whoever posted it – it’s AWESOME!

STARCHASER - Good to see your post!

GATOR – I liked your logic with Margaret. Good reminders to not be half-a$$ed about this if we want results. I’ve found myself trying to rationalize eating off plan and your wisdom will certainly come to mind next time I’m tempted. How bad do I want this? I just think of some of my family members and their health struggles and severe decline in their quality of life because of too much “cheating” and remember that I have lots of things I want to do and enjoy in life that I can’t do if I have to stay close to my doctors.

BOB – Glad to hear things are going well!! HOOO HAAAA!! Remember that when you turn 21 there’s a tendancy to overdo it – just be careful!! :) I love Sam Seltzers!! Enjoy your Birthday meal immensely!

ICESKATEFAN – Welcome back!! Nicetameetcha! Lurk all you like and post when you can. I love to hear about how well people are doing. That’s a very nice picture you posted. Looks like I’m going to have to check out the "The Schwarzbein Principle" myself. Sounds interesting.

QUILTER – Glad to have you back on board. Glad the curfew is over too! Nothing like feeling like you’re being grounded by the City, huh?

FROG – Can’t wait to meet Norma Jean! :) Sounds like you had a blast!

CHERI – I hope you’re feeling better!

CATLOVER – I’m sorry about your dog. They do get to be part of the family rather quickly. That chocolate isn’t going to make it feel any better and then you just have that much more to deal with. (It’s easier to be on this side of the reasoning, I know.) <grin> You’re absolutely right – you CAN make it through this!!

LISA – Don’t beat yourself up too bad. Some of us are still figuring out how to maintain 100% SB eating and the rest of the posters have been there/done that/got the t-shirt and are more than willing to help us be pro-active to be successful! I know for me, feeling like crap and going to bed at 7pm 2 Fridays in a row has been motivation enough for me to change how I handle Pizza Fridays at work! That’s awesome about your son playing baseball! It’s good for kids to get to be kids and romp around as much as they can. You’re absolutely right that it’s good for the soul and will only help with his health, I’m sure.

Hmmmmm, baseball game eating survival…..Can you take coolers in to the stands or is it more strict than that? I always buy those 2 lb. bags of skinless, boneless chicken tenderloins at the store and pop those in a non-stick frying pan sprayed with Pam – sprinkle some Tony Cachere’s seasoning on them and cook them till they’re done (you don’t have to thaw them first). Takes about 10-15 minutes. Voila – SB friendly chicken fingers. Apples and peanutbutter (sugar free). Triscuits. I’ve quit being so religious about refrigerating my food and if you cook the chicken fingers shortly before you head out to the fields it should be okay to not refrigerate/cooler store them since it won’t be that long before you eat them. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches travel well, too.

VIV – Sorry to hear about your dad. Glad he’s got a good Dr. in SF that can help. I don’t know anyone there, sorry. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Lisa_A_A

SolShine,

Thanks for the tips on baseball food! I could carry food w/me.....if I just get myself in gear (aka get off the computer :) ) and plan ahead. I know I could at least take some fruit w/me to snack on. They have the most delicious boiled peanuts at the games......just how bad would that be? And how many could I have???

Thanks,
Lisa

Today has been really windy here, so when I got back from the Food Ministry program I decided against walking. I will be doing the cardiofit exercises instead. I have 2- 12 hr shifts coming up the next few days, so I probably won't get to post much, but I sure will be thinking of all of you.

Debbie, Rosalie, & Solshine, thanks for the compliments & encouraging words. Yes, I do feel good about myself & the weight loss as well as the smaller sizes. I need to try on my swimsuit before vacation time gets here cause I may need to buy one of those too!:D

AMSERAPHIM, Enjoyed our chat last night. I do hope you will hang in there with us & also with this WOE.

QUILTER/Kim, Hope things continue to improve with the curfew & the unrest in your area. I'm sure that can't be a pleasant situation. We had some problems in a near-by town this week-end along the same lines, some shooting between locals & police, but no deaths, Thank the Lord. But I thought of you when I heard of it.

CHERI, Sorry to hear you're not feeling up to par. Hope that sinus/allergy problem clears up soon.

CATSRULE/Christin , Sounds like you are really in distress over this situation with the dog, but like you said, you know how you're going to feel later if you surcome to stress eating. A wise choice you made, to go to bed instead of eating the candy eggs. I hope you were strong enough to do it & hope today was better for you.

Lisa_A_A, Planning ahead is definitely the key to your delemia. Why not prepare a picnic basket to bring with you to the games. It would allow you to eat OP, control not only your eating, but that of the kids, & also be cheaper than the take out. Boiled peanut should be ok as long as you don't overdo them. Can't remember the portion size, maybe 1/3 cup?

VIV, Glad to see your post today. Really neat idea doing the 5 minute timer thing with the kids. Need to tell my daughter about that idea. Thanks for the update on your dad. Hope the surgery goes ok. Yes, I'm sure that you are feeling like you are being pulled in too many directions with all of this going on. SF is a long way from you, but hang in there. God always makes a way. Will be praying for you both.

Well, got to go get a few things done, like wash clothes & dishes. Also got to go pick up GS Daxton at the baby sitters'.

Dentist update: Saw my dentist this morning and he decided he could patch the tooth rather than crowning it. So it cost me $85.00 instead of $500-600. Nevertheless--LESSON LEARNED! OP food has just not been appealing to me since about noon yesterday. Go figure.

Debbie: I liked what you had to say--I mean not only was I off program, but was into a major feeding frenzy. I'm sorry you are still up--but you know it WILL go down again--just have faith and keep OP!

Big Orange: I think you are tackeling the more important problem with the smoking. You can get totally back OP when you feel that the cravings have diminished. Imagine how good that chicken is going to taste--once you tastebuds reawaken!

Melf: SIZE 10!!!!!!!!!! Your work in the gym is paying off. I'm trying to work my way back to the gym as slowly as my knee will let me. So far I can only do a little bit on the bike and weights that work my arms and upper body. I'll get there eventually though.

Iceskatefan: Welcome back! I agree with the suggestion that once you eliminate sugar and starches from your diet the cravings will go away. Once you get through the "detox" period, it is amazing how your appetite changes.

Frog: Will we ever learn?????? Eating off program is just not good! I certainly learned my lesson.

Catsrule: I'm so sorry to hear that you had to give up your dog. But please don't give into the temptation. if you do you'll be sad, heartbroken and guilty over the dog as well as eating off program. It will make things worse instead of better.

Viv: I hope your dad does well with his surgery. As much as I believe in staying on program, I also believe that there are times when you have to put first things first. Like Big Orange and her cigarettes, do what you can OP and we'll be here to help you get totally back OP when you are ready.

I hope everyone else is having a good day. More importantly, I hope the steel-eyed monster (or digital, as the case maybe) is good to everyone tomorrow.

I've had a GREAT day. It's one of those days that everything has gone right. Whew!!!! Can't even begin to tell you what a switch that is! Ha!!!

MELF---Oh, Girl, you are my inspiration!!! That is wonderful news about the SIZE 10 pants. Wooohooo for you. How great you must feel. I am so happy for you. That walking is really doinng the trick for you.

CHERI---Sorry to hear your allergies are giving you fits. That can be downright awful and I'm sure sorry to hear it's happening to you. Hey, how's your foot. I haven't caught up with last week's posts, but I just was wondering. The last I remember you were getting some pain with it. have you had to lay off the walking??? Hope not, because I know you were enjoying it.

CATSRULE---I know you are such an animal person who loves all creatures. So my heart is hurting for you at this time. I'm sending good thougths your way that some kind hearted person with a really big farm that sits way off the road will wander into the pound and it can be love at first sight. And he'll get a good home. That's what matters for you. But I totally understand. I love dogs, but have met a few that would make me pause. Anyways, glad you mae it through without the easter eggs. You're right . . . you would have felt terrible. Much better that you got on the board and told us about it and wore yourself out. Take care.

ROSALIE---Yes, Rodney Yee was on Oprah a couple of weeks ago. The tapes are wonderful. I did one last night and one this morning. Wow!!! I sure don't get it yet and I can't do all those positions, but I felt so good and peaceful when I was finished. Looking forward to doing it when I get home. I"ll ask Paul about IM and the globes and why you don't have them. He's on the phone right now. I'll get back to you.

Well, I'm at Paul's office trying to get in a little post reading. And I think it's time to head home. Will be back on later tonight. I'm not finished reading or responding. HA!!! Fat chance of that!!!
Take care.

Hi all. Its been a really good day for me. I started the day off with a good breakfast, then my dh and I
went to a local golf course. I played my 1st Par3 9hole round ever and ended up shooting a 55. Not
great but for a beginner I think its pretty good. I am going to frame my game card. It can only get
better.

Since Im starting to feel better about myself, I am getting my hair cut and colored in the morning and
getting my nails done in the afternoon. Before starting this woe I was suffering from low self esteem.
Didnt really want to go anywhere or do anything. Ive only lost 5 lbs since March, but I feel alot better
which in turns gives me a little more confidence.

Viv - I know what you mean having people depend on you. My father passed away in October, and Ive
had to do alot for my mom. She's still grieving so Ive had to help tie up loose ends, and take her
on her errands. I also have a brother and a wonderful husband who help out alot. Im surprised the
stress involved hasnt sent me into bad eating habits. I will keep you and your father in my prayers.

Oh well guess I will go for now. I have to eat, then do my weight routine.
Hope you all have a pleasant evening.

I had decided not to walk today because of the strong windy conditions, but the more I thought about it the more I WANTED to get out there. My sister was here, so she stayed with Daxton. I had picked up a cheap Walkman AM/FM/Cassette with headset at Dollar General earlier today. The first station I came across had some really "beat" music, perfect for keeping me focused on the pace. WOW, what a difference that makes! Debbie you had mentioned this before that it helps & now I can understand what you were saying! I walked 3 miles in 45 minutes. It's about 56 degrees out there & let me tell you, I broke a sweat!

FILLISE, Have not joined a gym. I have a CardioFit machine at home & the walking along with this WOE. As Debbie would tell you also, even when the aches & pains are bad, it pays to get out there & do it cause afterwards, I sure do feel better. Hope your knee improves so you can get out there too.

QUILTER/Kim, Glad to hear you had such a great day. It's good to have some of those days once in a while when EVERYTHING goes right for you. :D

CATLOVERGood for you about the make over, haircut, etc. You SHOULD feel good about yourself. I know your self-esteem will improve as time goes by. You are doing a good thing for yourself with this WOE.

See ya'll later

Evening Everyone!

Just got home, and of course, I MUST jump on the board the minute I get in-is there anything more important?!?

Eli and I went to Ole Ole for lunch and ran a couple errands before going to the movie. We saw HEARTBREAKERS, cute movie. We actually were watching them set up a scene in Palm Beach last summer.

Lucky I got home and Eli didn't throw me out in the Everglades for the alligators-though I've had more than 100 grams of fiber over the last 2 days, I'm somewhat dookie stopped, and well, you can guess the rest, those car windows were going up and down all day long!

TONIGHT IS CHAT AT 9:15pm est Hope to see you there!

LISA, glad to hear you had a nice Easter with your family. Okay, lets see what you can do for dinner at the baseball field-how about a turkey/tuna/egg salad sandwich? Or, if you want something hot, make it ahead of time and get one of those little insulated thermos' to keep it in. A large salad with strips of chicken-trust me, there are lots of possibilities, just as many excuses one can find for not planning ahead. Let me know if you want some more suggestions, I'm full of them!:) Did you ever contact WINNIE??

VIV, glad to have you back OP 100%. Hey, what's with this Easter candy-see, the Passover crap is so lousy, if you would of stuck with that, it wouldn't be an issue!! Only thing I've ever liked with Pesach was the chocolate covered matzah! Hope the plans to go help your Dad work out easily, I know this has to be stressful for you.

SOL, when you are in Gainsville, see if you can go to WARDS, it's like a little farmers market that has some health foods there-along with Chocolove chocolates, which are fairly cheap there, among other great items. It's not far from the college. Join me in being scared to step on the scale tomorrow, I'm sure it will be frightful for me. I don't believe the boil in bags are okay-is it considered INSTANT? LOL-it may have been me to post that recipe, I can't remember sometimes (that age thing!).

MELF, you go girl, a swimsuit to boot-not I! That's one wearable I won't ever see again!

FILLISE, glad the Dentist went okay, and ended up being cheaper than expected. I can only imagine what was going through your head at that moment when it happened!

QUILTER, when you tackle your plateau issue, could you throw mine in for good measure?????:^:

CATLOVER, glad you are having a good day. Wish I understood the golf lingo, looks as complicated as metric to me! That's wonderful you are going to pamper yourself a bit-I started doing that with my nails, and now, the first time in my life, I have long beautiful and polished nails!! YOU DESERVE IT!! Enjoy!

MELF, you were rocking the pavement I see! 15 minutes miles-you were burning rubber!!! Makes a big difference, doesn't it. I'd love to make you a tape to play-then you'll be flying!! Just let me know!!!!

FROG, I LOVED the pictures!!! Esp. the last one!! Thanks for sharing them with all of us!!!

Gotta run-will be back on to see who's in the chat room at 9:15!!

Another reminder, TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!

Hope everyone is having a good week. I am now suffering from falling off the wagon some over the weekend. I have felt a bit on the weird side, yesterday and today. It may be from the weekend along with not being 100% since the bad cold thing I had. I was able to walk on TM only once last week, And this week, yesterday so far. I plan on hopping aboard it tomorrow though. I did do some yardwork both yesterday and today. I wasn't able to stay out there as long as I had a few weeks ago though. That can be so frustrating. It has gotten cool here again  Going into the 40's tonight, then into high 30's tomorrow night  I haven't planted the veggie garden yet, but am planning to attempt that tomorrow.

Mary and Kim - Just want to let you ladies know I really enjoyed chatting with you earlier this week. Mary, I am so happy for the headway you are making!!!!! You are an inspiration.

Debbie - I know you are happy to have Eli back home.. i know that when Craig has to go away, I miss him miserably. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and more appreciative too!!!!

Catlover - Give yourself a pat on the back just for going out on the course and giving it a try!!!!! I have been practicing my swing for like 2-3 months now:lol: DH wants me to venture out and get into the "swing" of things!!!!!

Glory - Hello to you too!!!! Things are pretty good here in Georgia. Hope you have recuperated from that roller-coaster week you had last week. I hope your bday was everything you wanted it to be.

StarChaser - Hope your trip is a good and safe one.

Iceskate - Welcome back to the neighborhood.

Kim - BTW, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!!!!! Congrats on being 100% OP over the weekend, as well.

Catsrule - Gosh, I know what a struggle it must have been to return your puppy. That is a far nobler thing to do, if you know you have more important commitments....and it sounds like you do.

Viv - Hello friend, I have missed our chats. You have alot going on right now. I will keep you in my prayers. I am here for you.

Sol - Have fun at the Gators. I have done my tour of duty a few times with those races with DH.. Be sure to bring ear plugs!!!!

Wow...... tomorrow is already WIW. I wish everyone good luck. I could use a bit myself. Have a nice night all.

Hi Girls! I'm back for the remainder of my post.

Did I tell you that I'm trying to give up Diet pop? Yep, it's not too big of an issue for me, because I only have them once in a while. But I'd still like to get that carbonation away from me. Have a friend who's doctor said that since our bodies naturally get rid of carbon dioxide, he likens that too dookie. He would ask his patients, "Do you mix 'dookie' (not his direct quote) with liquid and drink it? No. Then why do you mix something else your body doesn't like with water and drink it." We always laughed and thought that was silly. But I think he has a point.

LISA---What a hero your son must be to you and everybody who knows him. That is so great that even though he’s sick, he is going to play!!! Wish I had that kind of determination!! As far as dinner ideas . . . I was thinking about things like ww tortilla roll-ups filled with whatever they like (ham, cheese, pickles, etc.) or celery and cream cheese or peanut butter. Some kids like veggies and dip. These are just a few things that came to mind. We don’t have kids, but we do pack lunches when we go long distances in the car. Let us know what works for you. Might be something I’d like to add to my picnic basket.

SOLSHINE---I liked your idea of the chicken fingers, but have to ask about that seasoning you referred to. I haven’t heard of it and am wondering if it’s something local. What’s it taste like??? What’s in it??? We got a George Foreman grill as an anniversary present and I’m thinking yoru “fingers” would do very well on there. We love that new grill. Have used it the past two nights and it’s so simple and quick. DH said the cooked onions tasted very different tonight.

MELF---Here’s another quirky similarity in our lives. This weekend I was at DOLLAR GENERAL with my niece. She bought . . . a cheap little walkman to use while she runs!!!! I about flipped when I read your post that that’s where you got yours. Was yours 5? I think that’s what hers cost.

FROG---The wig is great!!! Looks wonderful and even looks natural. Maybe that’s the resolution of the picture! Ha!!! You are so cool to go to all that trouble to help make somebody feel special. I see this as a whole new career . . . I’ve heard impersonators make good money. Tee hee.

DEB---You are cracking me up about the windows in the car. Too funny. Must admit I’ve been guilty of that before too. What’s a girl to do???? I’m glad you reminded us abou tthe chat. I would have forgotten. That would not have been good.

Gotta go. It’s almost 9:15 and I don’t want to be the last one in the chat room. Take care, everyone!

It was fun chatting tonight! We missed those of you who weren't there!

QUILTER - It's Tony Chachere's Original Seasoning. At my grunchy store they have it by all the seasonings. It's in a green cardboard-type bottle with "Tony Chachere's" in red lettering. The LA Ladies will know what it is, I'm sure. It's bottled in Opelousas, LA. It's AWESOME!! We put it on everything! It's a blend of cajun type spices.

FROG - Love the pics! Thanks for sharing them!

DEBBIE - LOL with the windows!

Have a great evening, Everyone!

Good evening ladies! I assume you ALL missed me! BWAHAHA! The good news is that I finally got almost to the bottom of that moldy stack of work on my desk, got ALL the filing done and am all set up to kick bottom in the morning. The pages have multiplied and I don’t have time to reply to everybody. Glad that there has been so much activity here! I wish I could make the chats but I have to work at 3:15. Is anyone interested in chatting on Saturday or Sunday?

Debbie, can’t say it often enough, I think you are doing a wonderful job here. It’s one thing to keep things organized, it’s another thing to spend so much time lovingly responding to everyone.

About the shredded wheat, it used to be one of my major binge foods, along with all cold cereals. We had the old-fashioned kind, and I would crumble six or so of them in a big bowl and eat them with milk. So I’m just now learning portion control when it comes to certain things: it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Oh, when I left the Splenda out of the shredded wheat it IMMEDIATELY became less tempting!

I liked your recipe for the mini quiche-s and have been looking for a mini muffin tin so I can try stuff like that.

Melf/Mary, good for you on resisting those tempting eggs. The breakfast ideas sound good; I haven’t been eating much cottage cheese because it’s another STRANGE thing that I can’t control myself with.

Cathy, you said, “Somebody asked why I "chose" to not worry about staying OP on Friday at the fish fry. Well I had just made up my mind before going that I would eat what I wanted to and not think about staying OP for one meal.” Thank you for sharing that with us. I asked because I am very curious as to what motivates others. I’m hoping that if I do choose to eat something off program I will balance it out with other, more rational choices. Easy to say...yet lately I’ve been tempted to eat stuff not because it tastes the best but because it’s something I’ve told myself I CAN’T eat...the deprivation factor. Human nature I suppose.

Almond butter...I buy it along with peanut butter, fresh ground at the health food store. You grind it yourself with this big machine and it’s quite expensive, about $5 a pound. But I just get a little bit of it as a treat.

Karen, the headaches have definitely DRASTICALLY improved since Sugar busters. I think I had one when I was really stressed out but it didn’t last long. I used to have a headache every day...sometimes I would have to stay in bed all afternoon because of it. Now I rarely sleep more than 6 or 7 hours a day and I’m not tired.

I have also been reading in Sugar Blues that sugar consumption is related to illness (viral and bacterial). That theory is probably controversial, but I can see the connection. A healthy immune system can resist most invaders. I haven’t gotten sick much lately except after I went to Vegas and didn’t sleep much all weekend, but when I was heavy into binging I don’t remember ever being WELL. I always had a low-grade sore throat and would be sick for a minimum of two weeks. Since Sugar busters I haven’t caught the bug that has been going around our office.

Margaret, I have been drinking Diet Coke for a while, but only in the past few days have I been sucking it down like it’s going out of style. Like I said, I will drink what I have and then worry about it. You are lucky you don’t have to sit still...I spend probably 11 hours a day in front of a computer and never did mind before. But now it’s torture. Today I got out my MP3 player and stood up to do some filing because I just found it impossible to concentrate on the more important things. Well it was good because the filing needed doing anyway.

SolShine, girl we have a lot in common. Really enjoyed your letter. I’m glad you’re concentrating on your job too. I guess a lot more of my self-esteem than I realized is tied into my job performance and this ability to concentrate is really annoying me. But that’s a tangent.

Thanks for the link to the sassy site. I read NO FAT CHICKS (http://www.stumptuous.com/fatchick.html) which contained very sensible advice on weight training for beginners. I’ll add the site to my collection of links.

I have a complicated Excel spreadsheet for my budget too, including for tracking expenses, a detailed plan for both my current salary and for when I made $40K a year (soon...hahaha!) and even my roommate’s budget. (He simply laughed.)

Lisa, despite what you said about Easter weekend not being good days it sounds to me like you did really well. I think like me you are learning moderation.

Good luck with baseball season! I have one word of advice for ya: ZIPLOCK BAGGIES. Okay, that’s two words. I love those things. Things to put inside:

Sausage
Cheese
Beef jerky
Triscuits
Shredded Wheat or other “legal” cereal
Cut veggies
PB & “J” sandwiches
Plain ww bread
Boiled eggs
also fruit (without the baggie ;) )

Doesn’t hurt to be prepared!

Fillise, the tooth story was tragic, awful...AND HILARIOUS!!!! LOL! But one of the amazing things about this plan is that chocolate is allowed (what universe have we graduated to?) so if you had to have chocolate, why did you choose Milk Duds (Flavored wax!) when you have so much better choices? Too funny. I remember not so many weeks ago when I got this new kind of candy at Wal*Mart because it was only $.25 and I had never tried it before (Cow Whips or some such ;) ). I got about three or four strips and bit into one the minute I was out the door. It tasted nasty, exactly like candle wax. So I threw the rest of it away and the other three ended up on my dresser somewhere. Too good for bad candy! Well, wouldn’t you guess, several weeks later after I had started in on the chocolate again I was hunting around, desperate for a fix, and gobbled those other three nasty things down without a thought. Sigh. Never underestimate the power of insanity when it comes to food.

CatLover, good for you on getting your hair and nails done. It makes a huge difference in how you feel! I have been much more careful about my grooming lately.

Candle in the Wind, WHOOOHOOO! Hot! Hot! Hot!

Rambling thoughts again

I’ve been rebelling in small ways without totally losing it. Yesterday and today I just could NOT face my 3 mile run. Yesterday something happened to upset me which I can’t get into the details of, but the point is, the moment it happened, all I could think of doing was skating. Weird huh? I couldn’t WAIT to get suited up. I was going to do my run down at the park but I couldn’t run when there was skating to be done.

And for the first time, I actually went fast enough to get my heart racing! I could only keep it up for a few minutes at a time but I actually had to catch my breath after. I couldn’t go that fast before because I was terrified of falling. I guess after that last fall at top speed there is nothing worse that could happen (other than falling in front of a bus and getting run over) so I lost a lot of my fear. So much energy was going into being afraid of falling that is now going into skating faster. I was actually keeping up with the cars several times!!! (Okay, they were going over the speed bumps but it was still an ego trip) I did fall again, but forward so I didn’t get hurt at all. As if to compensate for my cowardliness in avoiding my run, I did TWELVE MILES! I wanted to go on but I always fall when I get too tired so it was time to chill out.

Tonight it’s raining again and I’m really pissy about that. But I’ll take my baseball cap and hope it’s not too bad. Definitely gotta run tomorrow.

With food, I kinda freaked out last Tuesday because I was avoiding salt and beef, and went a little overboard I think. Then Wednesday I was sick and dizzy all day from running and not eating enough. Plus I was feeling very deprived. So today I had ground hamburger (with rice and zuchinni yummy) for lunch and sausage (turkey with habanero peppers, with zuchinni, rice and onions fried in a bit of butter) for dinner. Oh, sausage for breakfast too. I even had an extra serving (130 calories) of triscuits with some sun-dried tomatoes. AND dessert (yogurt and berries). But I feel pretty good about it...I didn’t eat anything bad for me and I didn’t eat until I was overly full. So we’ll see how things go. The obsessive fear I was harboring last Tuesday was certainly not healthy nor helpful!!!

Okay gotta go kick some butt (my own) on wheels!

Much love,

Chris

Hi to all,
I just wanted to say thanks for the warm welcome. Good luck to all of you on "Weigh in Wednesday".
I made it through a whole day! I know what you guys were saying about "de-detox" is correct. I actually find SB harder than when I quit smoking!!! LOL
I need to just quit the sugar and carbs "cold turkey"!!!
Wouldn't you know...I make it through a whole day, and then I get in a wreck!?!?!? I wasn't hurt, but my new car has a bad "boo-boo". And I didn't reach for that bag of Doritos, instead I balanced my checkbook, and wrote bills. AHHHHHHH, the effect this board has on me :) :) :)
BTW...the pic that I attached to my first post is not me-it's Michelle Kwan. She's the reason that I am a southern girl with iceskatefan as a nickname! I just got a new digital camera...I'll have to take a pic of myself, so you all can see, the "real" me. LOL
Anyway...thanks again for the nice words of encouragement, I'll keep all of you in my thoughts today!

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone!:D

Just a quickie, have to jump in the shower and take Lauren to school and then go get my oil changed, I'm wayyyyy overdue-not one of those things I care to take care of when I should.

It's one of those bitter-sweet days. The scale is down 1 pound, but still up 1.5 pounds, so really, no loss since I'm trying to lose what I gained, but at least the scale moved down after 5 days!

I hope everyone has a good WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY TODAY!!!:)

I'll check in with you all later today!!!

I'm at work and need to keep this short. Weighed in at 172. While that's one pound down from last week, I weighed this about 3 weeks ago on a Wednesday. So I am NOT counting any loss today on the WIW board. Does this make sense???? I sure am sputtering and stalling around this weight. Must break through.

Enjoyed the chat last night. It's funny to be able to laugh at your computer screen. People would think I'm crazy if they saw it.

Take care.

Good morning everybody!

Thanks to all the great advice for my "baseball meals"......I will definately plan better for our next game (which is on Thursday). I ended up eating a quick turkey sandwich around 5:00, but was still hungry after we got home and had a bowl of AllBran around 9:00. I will not do that again..... I think all that bran was rumbling around in my tummy and woke me up at 4:00 am :( . I really like the idea of the ziploc bags. That would save me plenty of money too....my kids wants to eat eat EAT at the ballpark!

Even though we lost :( , it was so awesome to get to see Ross play. He is getting stronger and stronger each day, and for a moment, I could forget about that **** cancer and just enjoy watching my 10 yr. old having fun. He did great, too! He was the lead off batter and faked everyone off w/a perfect bunt. He played the whole game, some at 1st and some at short stop. I could ramble on and on about baseball....it's a real passion here in my tiny little town. We have nothing else to do, and the whole community really gets in to it! Even the opposing team was cheering for him when he got up to bat....it was a very special moment.

We went on a "make a wish"
