Hey MissMeliss... I was just getting ready to post on the old thread when you beat me to it.
I am sooooooo far behind I have no business posting or reading.
I have so much to do for this weekend and for my sister and for the wedding and for ....... you get the picture. :dizzy:
The nicest thing about it all is... I know all my lovely friends here understand and will accept me unconditionally whether I have a perfect weekend planned or NOT. LOL
Just all meeting each other will make it perfect enough. :D
Andria... I am so sorry you aren't coming. I agree... CALL IN SICK .

Miss Meliss... my sister has been struggling with cancer for over 10 years.
She goes into remission but it comes back every 3 years.
Her cancer is in remission again as of a month ago but....
Now her blood count won't go back to normal. She has been as low as 6 and 7.
She has had 27 pints of blood transfussions within the last year.
They have tried every treatment they know of and every kind of medication including chemo. The next step is removing her spleen because it does something that will make a difference. I can't remember the medical terms. Anyway.. she is obese as well and surgery is never good for anyone.. but especially not us fat girls. She is pretty scared.

Okay... gotta go again. Love you all. just wanted to say hello.

hmmm...my tuesday tip... well, discovered fitday.com. go there. now. sign up and let this site be one of your guides to keeping track of goals and calories and all sorts of other factors in your weight loss journey. husband and i went one step further and bought the software but the free stuff is good, too.

i'm feeling really good tonight. i'm exceeding the goals that fitday set for me to lose weight for my first goal. i am doing 20 minutes now on the gazelle. i'm making plans to further my education in the next 3 or 4 years.

i hope you are all well and exceeding your standards!!! :D *hugs* to all.

cheers,

Good morning ladies!

I only have 10 mins left on the laptop battery so this has to be quick.

Andria - I am so thrilled for you that the patho results came out okay. Get some rest. Get the "flu" and take a trip! :D

Samatha - Good job for getting on to fitday.com. This is a very difficult talk if we don't hold ourselves accountable for what we're eating or how little we're moving. Just keep at it!

2Cute - This weekend isn't about being perfect. Its about having fun no matter what that is. Hope the knee is feeling better.

Thin - How's the back???

Kat - I'm so jealous! I'm giving my foot another two weeks then I'm getting my bike out.

Jennifer - That was cool of your DH to buy you the MP3 to help you. Hang in there and you'll get under 350 before you know it! Good luck!

Meliss - You are not a failure. You just have to pick yourself up and learn from those mistakes. What are the triggers that cause behavior that is keeping you from achieving what you want? Once you figure them out, what are you going to do about them so that you don't feel like you failed? Just take it one day at a time and feel great about each day you achieve.

:bravo: Ingrid!! 40 pounds gone is fabulous! :dancer:

Hello to Crystal, Barb.G, Audrey, Mary, Lucky, Michelle, Pat, Joe Anne, Joanne, Pat, Blue, Stephanie, and everyone else that hasn't posted recently.

Have a fabulous day!

Well, I am off to get my filling fixed - so I have instant soup packed for lunch.

Hmmm maybe I should just have the dentist wire my mouth shut !!! MAYBE then I would lose weight. Of course my mind already reminded myself - there are malts!!!! So I guess THAT won't work either.

Have a good day!!!

Hey everyone :)

Sneaking in for another shorty post before naptime and heading back to work for a "mandatory" meeting. I happen to think my sleep is mandatory, but what do I know?!

First things first, I hope and pray I can ride a bike this year! You bike riders are inspiring me to try again. The last attempt was just about disastrous. I'll put the knee brace on first this time...

Second, I about fell off my chair laughing when blowing up stability balls was mentioned! DH and I spent 45 minutes between the two of us to get our ball about 2/3rds of the way up. Our friend walked in and handed us one of those emergency compressors you carry around in your vehicle, and we were done in about two minutes. As nice as the upper body workout is, I'd suggest going that route!

Barb, here's an extra :grouphug: I am so glad you are taking positive action towards all your goals still and not letting this one hold you up.

I just looked at the time and realized I was out of it (time, that is). I took too long to read!

I'll try to get in this evening. I don't work tonight! Wahoo!

Andria

THANK YOU, ANDRIA

I have an air compressor!!!! So, I am ready!

Do you like yours, Andria? Is it hard to stay on the ball?

Jen, are you lurking? I have been thinking & worrying about you.

Hi ladies :)

I just wanted to drop in for a minute; I had to see my doc this morning and I am on my way home when I leave here (library). My weight is still the same (320). Somehow I have strained a muscle in my neck (I think he said the trapezius muscle). My neck and top of my right shoulder have been hurting for about two weeks. It's either that I'm sleeping in a bad position or I am not paying attention to the position of my head and shoulders at work. So I will be spending lots of time with my hot water bottle the next few days. He also gave me some Celebrex for pain and a muscle relaxer and I am to do some range-of-motion exercises. And get back to work on the weight!

I want to say hello to LYRIC; another Tennessee neighbor!

I've got to run. I enjoy visiting with you guys. See ya later.

Hello ladies,

Since I feel so utterly crappy about myself (despite eating great yesterday and today) I feel I need to rejuvinate myself with the exercise thing. I've been using the Ab-Doer (lately not so faithfully)..it's bothering me now though because it SQUEAKS and makes an enormous racket. Do any of you have any suggestions for another ab machine that gives good results?

Also, any suggestions for fun/easy to follow workout videos? I use walk away the pounds but I've been getting bored with that lately. I just want to do something to get my heart going. I'm going to have to be running around outside all summer for my job, so I'd like to SORT OF be in shape.

Hi ladies! Just checking in real quick. Thanks all of you for being concerned about my back. I am feeling much better...almost cured. I really had to run today to do all of the stuff that I was supposed to do for the last two.

I still need to put some color on my hair, do nails...maybe, pack, finish the laundry (did you ever notice sometimes it's easier to just stay home?), and do a couple of business reports that need to be done before I leave.

:drill: You guys had better keep the thread going while some of us are gone. I'm taking my son's laptop and I just might check up on you guys.

For those of you not going.....either because you didn't come on board the thread early enough to be in on the planning or you're just not able to for one reason or another.....please start making plans to come to Michigan next Spring, for Spring Fling Volume 2. My one hint for making this easily affordable is to do what I did for this one.....never pay for anything using correct change. Always pay with green backs and then find yourself a jug and save up all of your change. I started about 8 months ago and have saved enough coinage to pay for the trip, so it can be done and you never even miss the few coins here and the few coins there.

BTW, it is GREAT to see so many faces here lately. Glad to see you guys are checking in.

Just one last word, :o Andria, I'm so glad your pathology report came back clear. That's wonderful news!!!

Ok, I'm outta here. You guys take care and try to stay out of trouble. :)

FYI: The scuttlebutt is that the site will be down from around midnight Friday night and then into Saturday....maybe 12 hours or more. Suzanne is switching servers, that's the reason for the outtage.

Hi Gals -
A quickie post to say Hi! I am eating dinner and then need to spend some time with DH before I head to OK tomorrow! :) Also need to find time for laundry, packing, nails, etc. Sound familiar Thin? :D I am so excited for this trip!!! It's a good ending to one of the worst weeks ever!

Thin - I am so happy that you are feeling better and you are good to go!!!

Time for my sweetie! ;)

Hi all --
hope everyone has had a good week so far -- hump day is over, so we are all halfway through another diet week --

thin -- glad you are feeling better
missmeliss -- you are in my thoughts
luckyladybug -- did you get that filling fixed? hope all is ok
dixiedarlin -- thanks for the tennessee welcome -- always nice to know there is someone close to home.

it has been a crazy week so far, but i think i am doing ok -- trying to keep my stress level normal, as increased stress tends to shut down metabolism completely -- definitely don't want that to happen --

gotta run -- got lots to do before i can turn in tonite --

see ya later.

Hi ladies!

Here are other ideas for saving for next year:

Pick a bad food or money habit where you regularly fritter small dollars away on a daily basis. Break the habit and put the money you would have spent in the money jar.

Clean out the closets and the storage area and have a garage sale!

Pay yourself for every exercise session or pound lost!

Its been a great evening and I'm headed off to bed. I worked late but got out to put fertilizer down on the lawn before it rains again. DH made a lovely dinner and then the doggie and I had a wonderful walk. My first without the cast and it felt good. He's laying on the deck recovering now! :D

I think I'm getting excited!!!

Of course everyone around here wants to know why I'm looking forward to a trip to Oklahoma
Someone today told me I'd have to tell him all about it, and I told him, it might be secret, I might not want to tell anyone what all we women do when we meet in person!

On a sadder note, we have a funeral to go to tomorrow. The father of a longtime friend committed sucide Monday night. It was a shock to everyone.
But after that, it nothing but happy thoughts!

VermontChick

Barb.g - I am so sorry about your friend's father. That is heartbreaking.

Lucky - Check!!! Camera Packed! :D

Isn't it amazing how much we depend on the internet for day to day life??? Well, at least I do!!! I was planning on leaving my laptop here, but now that I seem to have enough room in my bag it's going with me! :) I'm addicted.

I have a DVD player on my laptop - I am going to take a couple movies with me - if I get lucky enough to have an empty seat next to me on the plane and some room to move I can watch a movie. Oh - headphones at work - well, they are cheap I can pick up another pair. :p

Hey you Spring Fling Survivor fans --- I am bummed that I am going to miss my favorite show tonight! I wonder if the suite we have booked has a VCR???? Anyone want to tape Survivor tonight and bring it just in case???
;)

Almost ready to go.....see ya later!

Funeral over, and Miss Meliss we didn't actually know the man himself, but are very close to the daughter. Her husband worked for my dad for over 20 years (10 of those years I also worked there with him) and now he works for us. Also they go to church with us. In fact, they are the only ones in the family who go to church anywhere, and Donna is the oldest child, so our associate minister helt the service.

Now I can start getting excited about a trip to Oklahoma. What should I wear?

VermontChick
04-22-2004, 03:48 PM
Augh before you all take off on me, do you have any suggestions for exercise videos???

katrinabgood
04-22-2004, 05:41 PM
mmm...exercise videos: Tae Bo, beginners version, is very good, not hard to do but you'll sweat like crazy. Any Kathy Smith, I like the "Peak Performance" one. I have an old "The Firm" video which is great, but the 80s leotards are kind of outdated...I currently like Beach Body 90. Depends on what you want...cardio? weights?
Anything that gets you moving is good...you just have to find someone you enjoy watching/listening to. I can't stand Denise Austin's voice and mannerisms, so even if her videos are good, she irks me too much to follow!! There used to be a show on ESPN, "Bodies in Motion" with Gilad. I loved him! He was funny and the workouts were good, without being too hard to do. I may have to get over to Amazon to see if I can find some of his stuff! Hey, thanks for getting me thinking about this, Meliss!

Okay, I finally bought my new scale......Oh, you want me to get ON it?

...geez...now I have to go find a battery...wait a minute...the things I do for you people...

Well, THAT was an eye opener!!!. :fr: :yikes: :faint:

I bought a fancy schmany scale with dates and memory and weight and BMI, (it appears that I'm in the DANGEROUS category there--no sh!t)

So, where was I...oh yes, my digits...Well, in the interest of starting over, for posterity, here they are...ulp...weight=269, BMI=44.7. (18.5-24.9 is normal) So there they are. My fancy schmancy scale shows how much is lost or gained everytime you get on the scale. Good. I need some accountability. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was not in the 270s. You know, there's just that psychological ~thing~ about going into the next decade (for lack of a better word!) up or down!

Enough about me.

Barb!!! Since you'll have your laptop with you, I do hope there will be bulletins and news flashes as they happen!!! I'm so looking forward to pictures and I have designated my credit union account as my "airfare savings account" for next year's excursion! BTW, I TiVO Survivor each week, you'll have to come over and watch with me here!

BarbG...so sorry to hear about the suicide. So tragic for those that are left behind.

Terri, I'm getting on my bike today JUST FOR YOU! My bike riding cohort.

Lucky...I ALMOST bought one of those balls when I was at KMart, buying my scale. And then I came to my senses. I will spend NO MORE MONEY on exercise stuff!!!! I have a ton that I do not use. And a gym membership. So, I'm sorry, we can't compare 'falling off the ball' stories! Although, I'll be happy to listen to yours!

Andria! I've been meaning to tell you, "YAY!" :cp: about the biopsy! I'm thrilled for you. Did I mention that my dad's was NEGATIVE too? :cp: :cp:

Samantha, I like Fitday too! I go in spurts, using that...it's great to have a visual of what's going into the old pie...er, I mean, salad hole!

Okay, I have to run...must get out into the glorious sunshine! One more night of work and I'm off for three! Oh yeah...

see y'all later!

VermontChick
04-22-2004, 07:21 PM
Ha ha ha...80's leotards...I bet there are still some people who would wear them if they sold them anywhere..you know...For some reason people still like to do the bangs curling thing ...curling them up and hairspraying them(no offense if anyone does), i just don't think it's flattering on anyone, and it takes a whike to do, probably...

Terri in MO
04-22-2004, 10:23 PM
 Kat. I had a similar experience when I calculated the body fat percentage per the Discovery Body Challenge. Except mine was...WHAT THE ****! Can't be right! Then I had to wash my own mouth out with soap.

Come on gals, quit being wusses about the stability ball. I have never fallen off. If my DH can sit on the ball and even roll until he's on his back, you can too. Just sit gingerly and roll down slowly until you get the hang of it.

I think my hobby is buying exercise equipment....no wait, thought it was sewing material (back in the 80's)...no wait, thought it was ceramic stuff...no wait...maybe its just buying stuff. What a drag to think you have to do something with it.

I personally like Leslie Sansone walk vids and her step vid. Yes, she's a bit annoying but nearly as bad as Denise Austin. I used to love Gilad too!!! I had forgotten all about him. Then there was Charlene Prickett. She's much better if you could put a sock in her mouth. I probably still have my Jane Fonda ALBUM! Anyway....back to contributing something helpful to Meliss. It really depends on what you want. I like doing the walk tapes, I like my cycling videos for the stationary bike, I like doing Tae bo, I like doing Winsor pilates, I like the stability ball workouts. Try looking at the library to see what they have and try before you buy!

Hey, maybe we should do a video exchange! I may still have some Richard Simmons.

I am going to start saving up for next year now too!! Hope DH survives this weekend. He is excited about going and lounging around by himself. As long as I come back to the room sometime before Sunday noon!

I need to go do more laundry and the dog is laying at my feet looking forlorn. Like he knows I'm leaving him behind. That and he knows I haven't taken him for a walk yet. Note to self: Next time buy a dumb dog.

Who got to watch Survivor? I'd like to vote all of them off. I wouldn't last long. I'd tell Alicia and Jenna to shut up and back the **** off. Again with the soap in the mouth.

Have a great evening!

Terri: I like your ideas for saving money. I can't use Thin's because I rarely use cash - I don't buy anything during the week. I take my lunch to work and use a check card for Wal-Mart, groceries and gas.

I could pay myself for each time I fall off the stability ball!!! :lol3:

Okay, experts - do I need one of those things you use on footballs and stuff to use my air compressor on the stability ball? :?:

Kat: I was thinking we could "chat" with OK since they will be by computers.

Thin: When is the Spring Fling #2? I don't get vacation until after May 5th. Also, I notice many of you mentioning doing your nails. I don't know if I will fit in with all of you fashion slaves. I NEVER do my nails.

When I was cleaning tonight I did find a tin full of coins. I must have been saving them at one time - I figure it is my "starter" for next years party.

VermontChick

Hmm..lots of neat ideas..i'm gonna have to check out this stability ball..is that the huge *** green ball that you sit on and do various exercises with?

LuckyLadyBug
04-23-2004, 09:17 AM
MissMeliss: Well, mine is a huge *** piece of green rubber right now so I don't sit on it!!

I have to find one of those "things" you use to blow up sports balls so I can use my air compressor on the huge *** piece of green rubber .

Funny, Terri, I ordered the over 50 tape and got the EXTREME one. Do they even look at what we pick or just give us the closest one handy for them?????

So, who's in OK and how is it going so far?????

ageoldie
04-23-2004, 09:24 AM
My ball came with it's own pump. I tried the video that came with it, but because of my "artificial" knees, I was scared to try too many of them. But it's fun to use for a lot of things. When I was using the trainer, we used it a lot.

I have quite a collection of exercise video, but don't use or recommend any of them, except the Oxycise ones. But what I really collect is diet books. I think I have every one ever written, and I've found that reading them doesn't help at all. ;) maybe I should try doing what they suggest? :chin:

I've said dieting is my hobby. Maybe that's my problem, I don't take it seriously enough.

The way I've "saved" my Spring Fling money is fun. DH buy lottery tickets every Wed & Saturday and he will usually buy me a couple of scratch off while he's there. Of course, we've never won the lottery, and it's not worth DH's energy or effort to go to the store to collect a mere 3.00 win so I save up all winning scratch off's and the lottery tickets until I get quite a few then take them too the store and wait patiently for the clerk to run them throug the machine. He hates to see me come in! :yikes:
So over the years time I've saved up enough for spending money for my trip.

As for air fare, I don't know what I'll do about that. I was able to get a FUN FARE to Tulsa from Dallas for 82.00. It will probally be a lot more from Dallas to the North Pole!

Terri in MO
04-23-2004, 09:52 AM
I have to ask. Is it that the ball is "huge ***" or "*** green"? My first thought was, gosh my *** isn't green? !

Lucky - I was trying to get the Extreme vid and got the Fifty one. Send it back because I really like the Fifty one. I like the Gin Miller one too but she does have some hard moves for the more advanced.

I think Barb and 2Cute are the only ones in OK so far. We won't be there until about 10pm tonight. I have no idea when Syn or Thin & Susie are coming in.

It occurred to me this morning that we are headed into TORNADO ALLEY in the springtime. Next time - no tornado alley please!!! Especially since I thought I heard there was tornadic damage around Tulsa yesterday. :fr:

Have a great weekend ladies!

My sister's surgery went well... but .. her recovery is hampered with difficulty in breathing. Please send some prayers her way.

Only a few hours until a bunch of us get to meet. :)
I did want to pass on... there are no threats of tornadoes this weekend. :cp:
Our temperatures are only going to be low 60's with some rain. But tornadoes do not like low temps ... so we should be just fine. But please tell your families that I have a saferoom if needed. It will be a tight fit.

Hi Ladies -
Greetings from Tulsa, Ok! :) After a Longggg flight on a small plane last night I arrived about 9:00. I drove around a bit - lost $40 at the casinos - last dinner - watched some TV and got some much needed sleep. I feel more refreshed today. I just mapped out some shopping for today. It cloudy and drizzly right now (from what I can tell out the window). Not sure I brought warm enough clothes --- may need to buy some new stuff! :D

I am so excited to meet up with everyone later today.....Very slooooooowwww connection from this hotel - 21k. Yawn! The hotel we are staying at tonight and tomorrow has high speed (at least that's what their internet site said). You know we'll be checking in on you! Be careful on those exercise balls this weekend!

Time to shower and shop.............

2cute - My prayers are with your sister and your family. Be safe coming back - see you later today.

Have a great day!
