I'd like some feedback on how to get the birthdays listed. Should we just list those b.days for the month at the beginning of each month? We have a few APRIL BIRTHDAYS to take note of-BARBEE was yesterday, APRIL 1, * LISA A-April 6 * GLORY-April 11, * THINAGIN-April 11 * KAREN-APRIL 19 * BIGORANGE-April 20 * MSLIZ-April 25th, and Did I forget anyone??
Last weeks poll was a good one. I think most of us do get some exercise in pretty regularly, which is nice to see-the 4 of you who don't get any, and you know who you are, need to try to get in something-anything is better than nothing! (KIM, see you aren't the only one!!)
TODAY IS MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY
START NOW
Start right now to fulfill your best possibilities. Start right now to achieve the goals you've set for yourself. Those goals, those possibilities are too important to let them go stale. There is something you can do right now to move toward them. Get busy and do it. There is some initial action you can take. Get busy and take it.
What have you always told yourself you would do? Who is the person you have always wanted to become? What is the lifestyle you've always wished for? Wishing is not enough. Intention is not enough. At some point you must take action to achieve those things you truly desire. That point is right now.
Now is the time you have available to you. Now is your opportunity to act. Now is when your goals, your dreams, your ambitions begin to become a reality.
There's no need to put off the fulfillment of you best possibilities for another moment. Start now, take action, keep going and experience the incomparable thrill of making your dreams a reality.
-- Ralph Marston

MELF, hope they have the Carbolite near you-I would think someone would have it. It's such a treat! It's nice to hear you have nice surroundings to walk in that you don't need any music to drown out the cars and planes, like I do:rolleyes:
ROSALIE, sounds like you had a nice day with the grandkids, and I'm sure they loved being with you as well-esp. getting when going to get MickeyD's! Funny, I hear most Grandparents saying they take their gkids there more than BK. I know my Mom is partial to McD, she likes their ice cream cones!!! Sounds like you will have a beautiful deck this summer!!
KAREN, you can tell when you are bloated and up on the scale and are doing things correctly that this is NOT fat, it's water weight. I've mentioned in the past how, just one day, it seems like the flood gates just open up. I keep track of these things and it makes not getting frustrated easier. Glad to hear your plateau is broken and you're down again!!! BTW, what day does your bday fall on???
BUNNY, glad to see you back on the board. Three pounds is NOT the end of the world. If you just get back on plan full-force, these will probably drop off so fast. You are right, writing everything down will be helpful. You can easily do this, and you know this, but you need to get back into the right frame of mind. YOU have to be ready to do this for yourself, not for a trip, or any other reason, it doesn't work otherwise. We are all more than happy to help you get back into the swing of things, we know you can do it, you know you can do it!!!:)
GREENEZEY, WELCOME TO OUR BOARD Are you following SB?
Well gals, I must run-I'll check in with you all later tonight!!!
Have a wonderful day, and a great week!

StarChaser 04-02-2001, 11:03 AM Good Morning Ladies,
Hope all had a wonderful weekend!
Well yesterday was my 1 month anniversary on SB.
This morning I ran by my doctor's office to weigh in. I have a nurse there that is my official "keeper of the weight"
And are you guys ready for this? One month later I have lost a total of (drumroll please)............15 lbs.
I can't see how it's possible! But it was right there in front of me! The nurse had to convince me she knew what she was doing to convince me the scales were correct.
Since I was in a public place, I couldn't strip down to my underwear and do my Happy Dance!!!
However, tonight when I get home, it will be me and Bogie happy dancing to a little Otis Redding!
I had a great weekend. Instaed of eating out, a friend and I stayed home Saturday night and cooked a complete SB legal meal! Cooking a complete meal was a NEW experince for me. I thought I was going to have to get out the owners manuel to my stove to figure out how to operate it!!!
I bought some Sugarbusters brand pasta yesterday, but couldn't find any sauce that was even semi legal?
Anyone got any suggestion on a legal sauce? I've really got my heart set on some spagetti!
I've got to get to work. Mondays are a busy day at church! Will check in later!
Thanks to you all,
StarChaser
Rosalie 04-02-2001, 11:12 AM Good Monday morning everyone :)
It's still a little cool here although the sun is trying to shine. I got off to a good start by doing my 2 MILE WALK video before breakfast. Have a little shopping to do this morning then off to badminton this afternoon.
Deb - I think it would be fine to list the birthdays at the beginning of each board. Could you just list the names at the bottom of the introductory page.?
Rhroo - I love your sense of humour. Perhaps we can find some magic sticky tape that only lets the legal food in. At least you are exercising and sounds like you had a good weekend apart from the eating. Sorry to hear you still have some of the white stuff there. Ours has nearly all gone, just a little bit left where the snow plows piled it up.
Starchaser - Fifteen pounds in one month WOW. You must feel wonderful. What a motivation to keep on SBing. Enjoy doing that HAPPY DANCE this evening but make sure there's no peeping toms around!
Bye for now.
Have a good SB day everyone
Marie.
GatorGal 04-02-2001, 11:20 AM Hello fellow SBers. I had a motivational thought to paste but I deleted it before I thought to save it for posting here. Dumb me! How about this. Y'all go girls!! You can do it!
Frog, I went back again to try to look at your pictures, and the page still will not load fully. In fact, my computer even crashed when I was maneuvering around on page 3 to begin to reload the page to see if I could get it that way. So sorry I missed them.
Star--Congratulations on your wonderful loss. What an inspiration.
I didn't do very well at the pot luck. Give me a scolding, girls. But today is a new day, and so I'll just pick up where I left off and do better today.
karen3000 04-02-2001, 11:34 AM Deb - my birthday is on the 19th. Milestone this year - 45- ugh!!
Star - way to go on the 15 lbs. I'll do the happy dance for you tonight at home!!!!
Rhroo - don't put yourself down like that! Look what you have already accomplished! You have to live, too. So today is another opportunity to eat the way you want--on program!!
Got to get back to work!
Karen
cathycathy 04-02-2001, 12:36 PM Good Morning Sugarbusters!
Well today is my first REAL day on Sugarbusters and I'm excited. Do you know how encouraging it is for me to read on the boards this morning that Starchaser has lost 15 lbs on her first month of Sugarbusters! WOW! AWESOME! I really am hoping this will work for me but I would be THRILLED with a 5 lb weight loss in the first month since nothing I have been trying is working for me!
I have really got to go get the book (again) and do some reading because I have loads of questions.
Here is my first question (I promise I will read the book again and not drive you people crazy) but I still would like to try to find out the answer to this today...
Can I have Montalcina Angel Hair Pasta??? it is made from 100% pure italian grade durum semolina. The Label says Total Carbs 41g, Dietary Fiber 2g, and Sugars 2g. The ingredients read: Semolina, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate (iron), Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin and Folic Acid. I am wondering if I can have it bec it only has 2 grams of sugar per serving and I do not see any white flour but don't feel sure enough about what I am doing yet.
Have a great sugarless day gang!
Cathy :)
Lisa_A_A 04-02-2001, 12:39 PM Good morning!
I have just ordered the Sugar Busters book on the advice of my doctor, and am looking forward to being a part of this group. I have a lot to lose....around 80 lbs. I've had a lot of stress in my life lately which has made weight loss basically impossible, but I'm ready to do something about it now. My son was diagnosed w/leukemia in October, but is doing GREAT right now.
From what I've seen, this seems to be a great list with a lot of support (and believe me, I NEED IT!!!)
Hi All...
yes, we're back in H*ll now...lol....went from perfect sunshine to 30s and rainy and grey and dirty snow on the ground.....I am not happy!
Disney was absolutely awesome. all my planning paid off. Despite healthy crowds we hardly sootd on any lines (can someone tell me what IQ you need to use FastPass????) and did EVERYTHING we wanted to. Harry did RockinRollercoaster 5 times, ToT 4 times, Space Mtn 5 times, etc.....Buzz 4 times, etc.....I was amazed at Animal Kingdom, would love to go back and sit with a coffee in Africa and just soak it all in - the detail is amazing.
Saw all the evniing shows we wanted to, really handled the meals economically. Most days we had breakfast in the car on the way in (toasted bagels, etc, in our gorgeous, big condo which was 5 minutes from the parks), packed in lunch and snacks...one day we did a late lunch at Epcot, at Norway, which we loved. It was a smorgasbord with all kinds of interesting foods, lots of lox which we love, herrings, shrimp. Harry was very adventurous while Brendan had a hot dog. We had a lunch at Whispering Canyons in the Wilderness Lodge which was average, no fun servers that day, but the Lodge is so beautiful. We did snacks at the Prime Time and misbehaved so that the servers were constantly "yelling" at us....and did some fast food one night at Pecos Bills which was very very good. Other than that we cooked in and relaxed, or got takeout sushi....
We also took the kids to Pleasure Island an took in two shows at the Comedy Warehouse and the Adventurer's Club ( i had wanted to do that for soooooo long! - Kungaloosh!). That was great. Once again, tho, I am enthralled with the job Disney does and spoke to every Cast Member I could, which DH found annoying but I found enlightening. Now I want my kids to work there during college vacations.
Did OK on SB for the first 5 days, then went downhill from there, but with all the walking seems the most I may have picked up was one pound, which is fine, I am back OP 100% and happy to be there. From Thursday on it's been downhill, concluding with chinese food and chocoalte last nite, but like I said, back OP and going forward.
It was awesome meeting the infamous DEBBIE!!!! Deb, from the moment I met you I knew we would get along great - I feel so bad that my time was limited, but that's what this entire trip was about! next time we meet I hope we get more time together. You'll have to come up to gorgeous New England in the summer or fall,g et away from that humidity (which your hair, by the way, seems to benefit from, as opposed to my terrible hair days....plesae let me screen those pics before you post, LOL!). Sharon is a doll and so smart - I wish her well on this sad journey she is on - and your daughter is absolutely beautiful and charming - (and so much taller than you, tee hee...)
The Barmitzvah was a blast - they had a production company handling it - the DJ was incredible as were his dancers and I got a great aerobic workout. My kids were in shock the whole time at the magnitude of the thing. As the youngest kids there, and only knowing the BM boy, theyweren't as outgoing as I had hoped, but will ahve great memories. It was a baseball theme, I took photos but unfortuantely none of the decor, darn. You shoulud have seen DH in his tux - wow, did he look awesome. I have to figure out how to post them, already. Gosh, perhaps I should ask the half dozen computer techs I work with?????
So now we are back in miserable weather and I will continue my fantasy of moving to FLA. When we got off the plane DH said to me "So, it DOES get nice here in the summer, right???"
In the middle of the trip, we did get the news that my father does have lung cancer. Thanks to all of you for your good wishes - I tried to scan some psat posts to see how everyone is doing and noticed some of your good thoughts. Now we are waiting to see what stage it is in. I am praying that since the catscan didn't show it that it is small enough to be operable. I also was able to see my way clearly that I need to somehow get him here for suergery, etc. I have some decent connections in the medical community and once I know more about his disease I will get to work on what to do. I just can't do this 3000 miles away without his wife, and she is out of the picture, may she rot in h*ll (sorry, but that's the way I feel). So I will keep you posted.
So, that's where I am. I just can't post individually today, too much to catch up to but I will read them all as the day goes on. Congrats to the losers and go for it to the rest of us!

SolShine 04-02-2001, 01:20 PM Greetings All!
I, too, am new to SugarBusters! and tickled pink to have found this forum! My endocrinologist is testing me for Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome and put me on SugarBusters! I'm hoping this will help with my health and my weight. My scale said I was at 207.5 when I started 3 weeks ago and went down to 203.5 2 weeks ago, but then was back up to 206 last week. Funny thing is my Dr. office had me down 7 pounds from their scale - 208 (3 weeks ago) to 201 (last week). I think I like the Dr. scale better!
Nothing else I have tried seems to work. I even GAINED weight on the Cabbage Soup Diet. I REALLY want this to work.
Someone mentioned that the 14 day sample menues in the book were for maintenance. Can someone give me a general idea of what is good to lose weight? I seem to ALWAYS be hungry. If I post what my menu has been for the past couple of days, would that help?
StarChaser – Way to go!! That’s exciting news!! Brothers Spaghetti Sauce, I think has no sugar in it – I’ll check when I get home. I also have a great recipe from Cooking Light magazine that I'll post when I find it.
GatorGal – I’m in Maitland. Where are you?
viv - 101 degrees in the summer and near 100% humidity and no pretty changing colors on the trees during Fall are two reasons I wonder why I live in Florida! :D Of course, it is nice having the beach nearby and we have season passes to Sea World, which I absoutely LOVE. I could watch those cute little penguins for hours!
This seems like a great forum y'all have built here. I look forward to getting to know y'all and maybe learning some things I can share and contribute, too.
RodeoMom 04-02-2001, 02:55 PM Hi Everyone!
Well I got through my first weekend in SB, and it was OK! Took my daugther to a rodeo on Saturday nite and made sure I ate before I left the house, and took an apple and lots of water with with me.
We had a good time and Katie had a great nite. She came home with 3 - 2nd place finished, 1 3rd place and one 5th place!!!
I also got busy in the kitchen...I bought some Whole Wheat Flour and made chicken fried steak (hubby's favorite) and it was wonderful! I also made a gumbo pot full of pasta sauce. I start canning it tonight. I want to make sure that it is legal, so I searched for the right kind of tomato sauce and cooked it all day!! Made 10 quarts !
Next on my list...homemade salad dressing!!! I cannot see paying $4.00 a bottle for Sugar Free salad dressing!
THE BIG ORANGE: My dr. lets me come and weight, no problem and no charge. He's soo nice!
BARBEE: Hope the wedding is wonderful, be sure to remember to enjoy it!
THE QUILTER: How fun!! The same birthday...we will be sure to online party that day!
DEBELLI: thanks for the recipe. I can't wait to try it.
ROSALIE: Would love to hear about that walking video...sounds neat... what is on it??? Clue me in!
STARCHASER: WOW!!! Congrats!! I hope I have that good of news after a month...keep it up.
LISA_A_A: Welcome aboard. I am new too (just ending my first week) and this board is the best.
VIV: My prayers are with your Dad and your family.
I don't remember who gave CathyCathy the idea of oatmeal with SF syrup in it...but I can't wait until tomorrow morning to try it. That sounds yummy.
Thanks everyone for the support... this better than a Weight Watchers meeting, and much more convenient.

GloryBI 04-02-2001, 03:16 PM Hello Ladies :)
Gee it doesn' pay to say off the board for more than a day. There was so much reading to do, sence I last posted on Friday. So If I miss any of you that may have posted a reply to me I'm sorry I did a brief reading and I find I've been on for an hr. already. I must say I was very discouraged when I got up this morning ad I'm up another 2 count them 2lbs. can you believe this I know it's hormones but really do I need this right now? I'm going the wrong way. I really have been trying this wk end to watch my portions again.
I really got depressed when I couldnt get on board for so long. Then the scale I was using which by the way I paid to use was broken for 3wks well I lost control of myportion sizes and thats how I gained. this is to much now that I'mback on I have to put a stop to this and will i'm sure.
Melf: I really had to work to get backon and I have to say it was worth. I've really missed this board and all you wonderful Ladies:angel:
BOB: Boy that must have been a big scare for you too, I know I was scared when we had a possuim on our porch once. I too had to keep my animals in. There mean when confronted there vicious. So you and skeeter be carful.
Sparkle: I agree with what you say about motivation coming from within But right now I need this suppot to go along with it. I can't do much with out my support from others. Of course mu greatest support comes from the Lord and my family. But I can't do with out this support group either. We all need alittle help along the way.. After all God gave us each other to help one another. And we do..
Frog: Boy have you come along way girl, Your not only beautiful but you have your head on straight. When it come to the pettyness of your friend, I guess you just have to know your a better friend and that she maybe doesn't know how to be a true friend. You go girl
Sparkle: Boy did I forget to tell you I'm so impressed Biking and rollerblading and then to take them camping with you WOW. Did you have fun? Hope so .I love your reward system you have the same things on there that I would put on mine.
Barb: I just wanted to say I'm impressed, Hope the wedding goes well. relax alittle. if you can find a place too..
Overcome: Thanks forthe Welcme Back. I too love Walmart isn't it great, I find so much there. I go every day.
Rosalie: Thanks for filling me in I'm stll not sure I understand but will try to figure it out.
Greenezey: Welcome to the board, this is a wonderful
group on Ladies, with a lot of support. they will help on every level possible. there just plain great.
Solshine: Welcome to the board, we love newbies hope you nd Greenezey, find the time to post your bio's and tell us alittle about youselfs. We all like to share so we can get to know one another.
Well Ladies my daughter is chopping at the bit to get on here and sence I've been on for so long guess I'll get off have a good Monday love to all Glory :bye:
MsLiz1956 04-02-2001, 03:53 PM Hello there (said sheepishly)!
No, I didn't fall off the edge of the planet! I took some time off work (actually, I guess I DID fall off the edge of the world - sure felt the same, anyway!)!!
The bad news is that I didn't work out at all after last Monday, and totally blew my eating most of the week. I gained back half of the weight I lost. :( The good news is that I didn't gain it ALL back! ;)
I've been doing this long enough to know better than to beat up on myself for taking a week off...so I'm right back on track today.
Welcome to all the newbies! This is the friendliest forum I've ever found!
MargaretA 04-02-2001, 06:31 PM I've been dragging with the time change. Hope tomorrow is better.
I can't catch up with all the posts from the last three or four days, but I hit some HFS stores while in Baton Rouge, and even found guava nectar at the one near the Perkins overpass. Didn't like the sweet potato chips too much, not worth the calories to me. What does everyone know about Stevia? I got a free sample and haven't used it yet. It is an herb that is a sugar replacement in coffee, tea, etc.
Starchaser: Congrats on the loss. I think Hunt's spag sauce is legal, it's in a can. Also, Five Brothers Alfredo Sauce is one of my favorites.
Solshine: Welcome, and don't be hungry. Eat until you are satisfied. THat's where the lean meat and veggies come in so handy.
Rodeomom: My granny would turn over in her grave if she EVER heard of anyone using WW flour for chicken-fried steak...can't wait to try it myself for a special treat!
Viv: So sorry about your dad. I'll say a little prayer that the cancer is in an early stage.
LisaA: Welcome! I hope your son continues to do well. It's definitely a good time to take care of yourself for a while. This WOE is great once you get into it.
Melf: I misheard the plans for the trip to Abbeville. They are going there to eat at some good place. I never did quite get the details.
I am glad to be home, will be checking in here more often. Gotta go get my grilled chicken and WW bread out of the refrigerator for dinner. I brought it home from my last night on my little trip. We had several SBers in the crowd. One guy said to buy the absolute cheapest mayonnaise--it has little or no sugar. I haven't looked at any yet, so don't know if he was right. But I paid nearly $4 a quart for the SB brand, so will definitely check it out. These southern men on SB are extremely fanatical about it!!!!!!!
Cheers, Margaret
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 04-02-2001, 07:00 PM EVENING EVERYBUDDY :D
Haven't wanted one all day!!! Only got hungry once except for regular meals....Little jittery, but I can deal with that. YEA FOR ME!!!
DEB AHEM......APRIL 20th for me!!!! I can't believe you FORGOT ME???? boo hoo.....
I'll check back later and address each of you..off to fix dinner...pork chops and kraut YUMMMMMMM
BOB
SparkleScamp 04-02-2001, 07:37 PM Happy Monday to all you ladies and welcome newbies!
In the past few weeks I have started LOVING Monday because it’s the start of a brand-new week that I KNOW will be a success!
BOB, I liked “Remember the Titans” well enough. I just saw “The Green Mile” again, which was pretty good, and “Arlington Road” which was a wickedly, deliciously twisted flick!
WHOO-HOOO YOU’RE QUITTING SMOKING!!! I mean it from the bottom of my heart that you have my support and good wishes! YOU CAN DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT! This is what I told myself over and over: All I need to do is make it through THREE DAYS. I’ve had so many other accomplishments that surely I can do this for three days! And sure enough, after three days it was almost easy! (Okay, that’s taking it a bit far, but I wasn’t dying anymore.)
Frog, sounds like you and Bill had TONS of fun in beautiful Hawaii! Your post made me nostalgic too and I live right here! ;) Your sense of adventure and enthusiasm really comes through in your writing. I passed by the Natatorium Saturday. They still haven’t done anything with it. It’s deserted and really reminds me of Russia from when I went to visit there in 1997.
I would be more than happy to send you the items you want. What do you mean by a “garmet” (garment?) ? Email me at chris@shapeshakers.com with some clarification and your address, and I will definitely take a look next time I’m in Waikiki. Also of the price range of each object.
Quilter (Kim) , thanks for the kind words! I know what you mean about catching up with posts after a few days, but I love the hustle and bustle here...so good to know that this “WOE” is catching on!
Debbie, I’ll bet your nails look awesome. You’re so right, the little things do make a big difference. I looked at my hands and thought, these are hardworking hands yes, but they look like the hands of a field worker and not of a professional! I hope you are able to shake off the illness that is trying to catch up with you--although you are way too fast for it! I remember associates night at J. C. Penney as I used to work there, first wrapping gifts and then in the childrens department.
Rosalie, good for you for planning ahead! It’s so important with this WOE...I am newly amazed at how INAPPROPRIATE food is everywhere you go! There is something seriously wrong with the way Americans eat.
Karen, your fluctuations reminded me how much water weight affects us females. I believe that we are burning fat at a consistent rate AT ALL TIMES when we are sticking to the program and working out...but we can expect the scale to torment us at least one week a month.
Bunny lover (((((BARB))))) I really feel your frustration. Your post made me ask myself, is Sugar Busters inappropriate for some people? I have tried many different plans myself and have seen others try plans with initial success (especially low carb) and then fail. I am new at this so it’s a valid question for me to examine. And I can honestly say that the answer is, I think Sugar Busters is a the natural way EVERYONE should eat!
(Soapbox)
I have been thinking about this the past couple days. I don’t think humans were designed/evolved (whatever your belief) to eat refined sugar at all! For millions of years we have been eating whole, natural foods like nuts, vegetables and meat. Only recently, from an evolutionary standpoint, have we started eating cultivated grains. Then, think about this one! How recently have we started eating refined sugar and flour? Two or three hundred years? And currently, how much of the average American diet consists of refined sugar and flour? You tell me. We’re practically brainwashed into thinking that french fries, white bread and a little bit of salty, processed meat a meal makes! Ridiculous if you think about it.
Now, to actually get motivated is another story. It took me a long time before I was ready and it has been only one week for me. So maybe something hasn’t “clicked into place” for you yet. But it seems your main complaint is that you don’t “like” anything on the plan. Perhaps there are some emotional issues that need to be addressed, but ignoring that angle for the moment, a quick fix would be to pick up (or dust off if you already have it) the Sugar Bust for Life cookbook! I was utterly fascinated when I bought it Friday! The variety of food that is “on-plan” is just amazing. Some things I would never have thought of making even if I could eat anything! My prior usual diet of eggs for breakfast, Jack in the Box for lunch and whatever I could grab fast for dinner was the one that was boring and restrictive!!!!
(/soapbox)
Greeneyez yes since I discovered Splenda I have died and gone to Heaven! But I’ve done pretty good at not going overboard. One thing to keep in mind is that Splenda IS a carbohydrate and does have calories...about 1/10 the calories of sugar. But it has been proven over 20 years of studies not to cause changes in your insulin levels (see http://www.splenda.com). In Hawaii we can get it at Wal*Mart ($4) Safeway ($6) and 7-11 (free!). If ANYONE has not tried Splenda I highly recommend it over all other artificial sweeteners, and I’ve tried most of them. It takes just like sugar!
StarChaser, WHOO HOO! I’ll do the happy dance in the nude over here in Hawaii for ya too! That should give roomie a heart attack!
Hello Lisa and a big hearty welcome! Sounds like even though you face huge obstacles in your life you have a positive attitude and a good grip on your sanity! My good wishes and prayers go out to your son.
Viv, what a whirlwind. I’m sorry to hear about your father. I’m insanely jealous that you got to meet Debbie in person but console myself that I still live in Hawaii and the sun is shining! ;)
SolShine welcome to Sugar Busters! I don’t know much about your health condition but a few people on my other board were talking about it and it seems that it causes you to gain lots of weight even if you don’t eat much. Which sucks. I had thyroid cancer and during 2 separate months of my treatment my metabolism slowed down to nothing so I can understand somewhat how frustrated you must be. But the cancer was actually the best thing that ever happened to me because I NEVER take my good health for granted. I would have never finished a marathon if I hadn’t had gone through that.
Glory I totally don’t disagree with you at all! I tried to handle this disease (compulsive eating) all alone for many years with NO success. I’m very independent and stubborn. It took a lot of courage to finally reach out to others and I STILL find myself “trying” to do it all alone! You have the right idea about getting support! What I was trying to say was that I think, in time, we will naturally find more motivation coming from within as we progress. But we don’t stop needing support and we always motivate others too! It’s all a big circle.
SparkleScamp 04-02-2001, 07:39 PM The camping trip
What a lot of fun! It was only this one couple and me. Normally I don’t like hanging out with a couple ‘cause I hate being the third wheel but my friends are really cool and I tried to be less uptight as well. They had a tent set up for me and everything. We were on the beach just past Laie, home of Brigham Young University, the Polynesian Cultural Center and hence, a whole lot of Mormons. I didn’t get my hour of cardio in yet Sat so just before dinner, I went for a run on the beach. I was terrified because every time I tried to run in sand before, I would get tired after only a few minutes. As a teenager even walking up a sandy slope would leave me horribly winded. But I set out at a slow pace and was amazed to discover that I could do it! Running barefoot in the soft sand at dusk was an spritual experience...sort of unearthly.
The next morning I got up early and instead of twiddling my thumbs I went for another run, this time along the road, and then I walked back on the beach. Then later on all three of us walked out to Goat island, through the water, over relatively flat coral reef. I was terrified to attempt it but it turned out the water was only knee deep most of the way. We walked the entire perimeter of the tiny island, which was eerily beautiful. So in the course of two days I got in about 9 miles of walking/running!
A digression
I had a strange thought as I was watching my friend walk. She’s about 40, Filipino and is so beautiful. She has almost no extra fat anywhere on her body, and smooth, dark skin with barely a trace of wrinkles or cellulite. Well, she was wearing these clunky platform beach sandals but she still outpaced me without even appearing to be making the slightest effort. So (here’s the strange part) I was mesmerized by her thighs, which didn’t come anywhere near touching as she walked (she was wearing a bikini). I was thinking, let’s assume there are 2,600 steps in each mile we walk. Well after 2.600 times that little bit of rubbing that my thighs do, even if it doesn’t cause me thigh burn like it used to, still slows me down.
When I was well over 200 pounds I literally could not walk! If I walked a mile with my thighs bare I was literally crippled by thigh burn. Even barring that, if I encountered any kind of hill I was done for. I remember the few times I went hiking as a teenager (this was when I was 160 or 170) I remember always being terrified. When I was really big I barely left the house. Besides, I would always wear long pants or skirts, long sleeves, heavy, bulky polyester things that barely allowed me to breathe. My thighs were like two bulky sweaty pillows pressing against each other. I was literally a prisoner in my own body.
So my point is (yes there is one) that this random thought gave me home that I’ll be able to run faster and better in a very short time period! Even in one week I can FEEL my legs getting smaller!

Annette2 04-02-2001, 07:54 PM Hi everyone! It is snowing here today -what a treat for a Floridian (sorry viv!). I also got some incredible buys today when we were shopping. No tax here on clothes. I got 3 light sweaters, a Penn State sweatshirt, and a jumper for $45. Woo Hooo!
I have been ok since I have been here, but overdoing the legal carbs a bit. I have not gained though so that is great for vacation!
I think I have finally figured out what is slowing my weight loss even when I am 100% OP - I have been on Prednisone for my feet for about 6 months. I found out from a friend of my mom's who is a health care worker that it is a steroid and that it will make you gain weight! Geesh! Every time I turn around one of the meds I am on for health problems turns out to be a sabatoger! You would think that doctors, who are always hounding me to lose weight would consider these things before they prescribe them and at least tell me! She also said that 6 mos is way too long to be on prednisone unless you have luekemia or something like that, so I went off it and am going to find a new foot doctor when I get home!
Anyway, still having fun here at my mom's. Went to lunch today with my brother, sister and dad (parents are divorced) and we had a nice time. I sure miss them all when I am in FL. My neices and nephews are certainly giving my sister and brother a run for their money right now with all their adolescent problems - makes me glad that I can't have kids of my own. ( I have a 9 year old stepdaughter, Jennifer).
Deb: You always have the best motivational monday stuff. I feel bad because I never put anything up, but I will start when I get back to FL... Promise!
RHOO: Be kind to yourself! You only have 8 pounds to go! Look at your success so far!
Rose: Sounds like you had a nice time with the grandkids! I have been having a blast with my neices and nephews too! It is nice to send them home with their parents though!
Sparke: Holy Cow! You better do a double happy dance! How many sizes are you down?
Rodeo: Wow! Your daughter must be a great rider! My mom used to barrel race when she was a kid.
Karen: I know how you feel about the bloat... it is my TOM and I am feeling bloaty too! Happy almost Birthday!
BigO: Woo Hooo! No smoking is wonderful! You should be very proud!
CathyCathy: I got the SB book on tape from the library for the second reading and listened to it a couple times while riding my recumbant bike and driving to work... It sunk in better for me that way for some reason. You should check out the library!
Lisa: Welcome! Glad to hear that your son is doing well! I am sure it has been very hard on you.
Gator: How is the weather there? I will be flying back in Wednesday afternoon. As I am sure you know, Michigan State lost their game so hubby is bumming tonight I am sure! I will be rooting for AZ - Duke wins all the time! I can't get Frog's pictures either. Must be something about our internet service or something.
Sol: Hi neighbor! I live in Ormond Beach but am in PA visiting my mom! You will love the support you get here!
Viv: Funny, I am enjoying the coldness so much here! I guess whatever you get in large quantities you start to resent. I really, really miss the change of seasons! Glad to hear you got home safe and sound. I will keep you and your dad in my prayers.
Glory: I absolutely know how you feel! I was feeling really bad a couple weeks ago and ready to quit, but the support here helped me so much. I am still not losing like I would like to, but you and I will hang in there together, okay?!!!!
Hi Ashley! Hi Quilter!
Well I am going to go be more sociable... Love you all! Annette

Sasahm 04-02-2001, 08:58 PM Hi Gals!
WOW, a lot of new names! That's so cool!
Well, we are now firmly established (as firmly as a temporary assignment can be) in Andover, Massachusetts! It is certainly a far cry from what I am used to! It has been a major adjustment. The road system is unbelievable. I can barely find my way ANYWHERE. Praise the Lord for Mapquest! WHERE IS A WALMART??? Where is Walgreen's? These stores are VERY few and far between here. I'm used to a Walgreen's on every other corner...here there is a Dunkin' Donuts on every other corner! And don't try to find a grocery store... We have finally discovered Market Basket, but finding one near us is another problem altogether. Down south, you get on a highway, and you can see everything you need from there...here, you have to guess what is going to be off the next exit...It's just so different.
OK, I am back on program. I have to admit that I am limiting my carb intake somewhat as well. I just can't do breads...even WW ones. I can eat a whole loaf of sesame Ezekial's in one sitting if I let myself.:nono: Bagels are another downfall. :o ANYWAY, I have been OP for a week, and exercising like crazy. We have a weight room here in the apartments they have set us up in, and we are taking full advantage! MWF I do 20 minutes on the recumbent bike, then weights. TThS I do 30 minutes on the bike. SO...6 days a week. Last week I lost 4.5 pounds.
SO, how do we get the cute little pictures on the side thingy?? I like all the nifty images, where do they come from?
Sara

cheri45 04-02-2001, 09:55 PM Good Evening Everyone!
Newbies: Hi and welcome aboard!! The more the merrier. You will find a lot of support and motivation here. Any questions, you only need ask and someone will try to help.
Annette: I know what you mean about Prednisone. I took it a couple of times for my Asthma. But... as I understand it (if what you take is the same as what I has to take) you should never just quick taking it cold turkey. I think you're supposed to be weaned off. You should probably ask your doctor.
Deb: Hope your's and Sharon's day was not too bad. I really hope that all goes well for Sharon. I know that this is a very difficult time for her. She is so lucky to have a wonderful and supportive friend like you.
Sasahm: Glad you are settled and back on program. Moving can be a major headache so it's really great that you lost 4.5 pouns last week and that you have the weight equipment to take advantage of. Keep it up, you're doing great.
BOB: Congratulations on not smoking. I know it's hard. My mom started trying to quit about the same time that you did and she's back to smoking. You keep it up. I think it's great.
Chris: Glad you had so much fun on your campout. Running on the beach sounds awsome. Especially on a Hawaiian beach. Thanks for all the motivation.
Margaret: Glad you found some of the things you were looking for in Baton Rouge. I would love to visit there sometime, but I'm afraid I would eat all the wrong foods. But then again you mentioned NICE SINGLE MEN that are on SB :D
MisLiz: Welcome back and glad you're back on track.
GloryB: Don't worry about being up, it's probably just you TOM like you said.
RodeoMom: Congratulations on your daughter's wins. You must be so proud. And canning homemade spaghetti sauce and now homemade salad dressing. You go girl! That is totally the way to go.
Viv: Glad that you had such a good time on your vacation. You and your dad will be in my prayers. I know that with your connections in the Medical community and with prayer you will find a way to make things easier and get your dad there to have the surgery.
StarChaser: Congratulations on your 15 lb loss. Way to Go! You are an inspiration to all of us to stay op and see the same kind of results.
Everyone have a great SB day and I'll be back later to see if I missed anyone.
THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE! for your support, motivation and just being a great cyber friend.
Cheri

Debelli 04-02-2001, 11:24 PM Evening All!
Boy, you all have been busy beavers on this board since I left this morning@---->
LONGGGG day, but things seemed to go quite well for Sharon. We won't know probably for a day or two the outcome of today's hearing, the Judge wanted to think about everything. BUT, her husband really purjured himself, and the Judge knew it. For instance, he drinks, and was asked what medications he takes, and the Judge says, "you know you can't drink when you take this medication" and her husband, Joe, says I swear, I never was told that-so the Judge, of course, didn't believe this, and tells the secretary to subpoena his medical records. This was just one of many things that helped him dig his own hole that he can crawl into-I won't bore the board, but just know, Sharon's attorney was right on the money-Joe's was out of town! Will let you know what the outcome of ROUND 1 is when we hear.
I got in my 4.5 miles this morning, it was hard to get up with the time change and feeling a bit sluggish this morning, but I did and it was a gorgeous day and I really enjoyed my walk.
Just wanted to tell you a little food tidbit. Didn't know what I wanted to have for breakfast this morning, then came up with taking some yogurt, a 1/2 cup, and took a little sweetener (I like this one called SWEET VIBES) and took about a TBL of freshley made and very smooth PB and stirred it up-IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!! So, keep that in mind if you like yogurt and PB!!
RHROO, glad to know even though you don't post daily, you are lurking and reading. It seems the weekends are doing you in. It's like 5 steps forwards and 2 steps back. I am dying for you to get to goal, you're just so close. What can you do about staying OP on the weekends? We need to get this figured out so you can keep moving forward, or should I say DOWN!!!
STAR, CONGRATS on your 1 MONTH SB ANNIVERSARY! And a bigger CONGRATS ON A 15LB LOSS!!! I'm happy dancing for you here in Miami!!!! That is not only wonderful, but awesome. I know I'm thrilled for you, so you must be dancing on air!! :spin: You can use any WW pasta, I like Hodgson Mills, and it's cheaper than the SB brand I've seen in the stores. Also, any pasta sauce that has no added sugar is fine. I like WHOLE FOODS brand, but HUNTS also makes one in a can if that's easier to find. Just remember, read the ingredients list, if it has no sugars of any kind, it's okay-even though it says grams of sugar per serving, this would be natural sugars from the tomatoes-again, just read the label.
ROSALIE, badminton and a 2 mile walk-that's great! About the b.day listing, are you talking about putting them on the intro page each week for the month? If so, that's a good idea, I think. Let me know if that's what you meant.
KAREN, thanks for posting your bday, didn't want to leave you out!
CATHY2, hope you don't mind me doing a shortening of your name:) I hope your first SB day went/goes well. This WOE WILL work, as long as you do. The one thing I can tell you that I feel is very important for newbies is, even though SB doesn't say to do so, I think keeping a food journal and knowing just how much you are eating is very important. I get soooo many e-mails from people who drop a great many pounds the first few weeks and then stop losing, they get discouraged, and can't figure out why they aren't losing-every time I find it's because they aren't eating enough. Something so easy to change. Once you are familiar with everything, you don't need to do this on a daily basis, but at the beginning, I truly believe it's helpful. One site many of us use is fitday.com-check it out. Personally, I keep a little notebook and write things in that. Yes, you can use pasta made from durum semolina. I buy WW pasta, Hodgson Mills. Please take a look at the FOOD INFORMATION BOARD, you'll find some pasta info there. Try to keep cooking it down to a minimum, the less time you cook it, the lower the GI.
LISA, WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!! Glad to have you joining us. Very happy to hear your son is doing well, now it's time to focus on yourself and getting yourself taken care of. I'm sure what you went through wasn't easy, and as you said, stress is not good for anyone, in any way. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have, as you can see, and probably read, the women on this board are very helpful & friendly. We truly care about each other and are always eager to help. You won't find a better place for support anywhere, I know this for a fact:) Where about's do you live???
VIV, glad to have you back! Again, it was wonderful to have the chance to meet you, and yes, it was far too short of a visit! I look forward to one day having lots more time with you. Again, thanks for the Carbolite treat-you know what I forgot to give you, COFFEE!!! How did I forget that!!! Oh well, next time. Glad to hear you had a great time at the B/M!!! Did you get on the scale, or did you guesstimate a pound up?? It will take me a little while to finish that roll of film, so don't worry, I won't be posting those picks for a little bit:) Glad to have you back on the board, safe and sound. Please keep us informed on the latest with your Dad.
SOLSHINE, a warm WELCOME TO THE BOARD to you as well. ANOTHER FLORIDIAN!!!!!! Gosh, how I wish you'd of been around in February, a few of us met up there in Orlando! You have lots of Floridians here on the board!! Congrats on your loss so far. Don't worry about what the scales say, just concentrate on how you are feeling. Now, if you are hungry a lot, possibly you aren't eating enough calories. We'd love for you to post your daily menu so we can all critique it, throw you our 2 cents. You may need to increase your caloric intake, up your protein, possibly eat more filling foods-things that can easily be done. Please, don't hesitate to ask any questions, we are all eager and willing to help you in any way! If you ever get down to Miami, just let me know!!! Just noticed, you are in the same city as GATOR.
RODEO, congrats to your daughter-how long has she been doing the rodeos?? Boy, you did make a whole bunch of sauce-I wish I could cook like that!! I have recipes for salad dressings, if you let me know what type you are looking to make-old vegetarian cookbooks are wonderful to find good SB legal recipes.
GLORY, don't be so down on yourself. You're back, and that's what matters. You've done so well, this was just a small setback. Just look forward, you know you can do this, look what you've accomplished so far. As you've said, the support of this board is so important-and you know from the past, we'll help you through ANYTHING!!!
MSLIZ, geez, how in the world can you go AWOL and not tell us!:nono: Glad to see you back on the board, and back on track.
MARGARET, I too am not taking too well to the time change. PLEASE tell me that was a typo and you got AGAVE NECTAR, not guava nectar! I like STEVIA, I use it all the time. I like the STEVIA PLUS brand, it has no fillers like some others. The only problem I have with it, due to the humidity, I found I have to keep it in a container that doesn't let the air in it, otherwise, the packets get hard, and you can't use it. One thing to know about Stevia, use a little, if you use too much, it will taste bitter, but personally, this is my choice when it comes to sweeteners. I have information about Stevia on the FOOD INFORMATION BOARD (link above in welcome post). Also, you don't need to buy the SB brand of mayo, or anything else SB brand, store brand or national brand is fine-or if you'd like, make your own.
BIGO, I SWEAR, I have your b.day listed on my list-I don't know how I missed typing this very important information! I fixed it above-so sorry, you do forgive me, don't you??:?: So, how was the day without a cig?? Both Sharon and Eli send you a hello too! We had sweet potatoes here too, made them in the pressure cooker, YUMMY!
SPARKLE, you are right, everyone should eat the SB way. If you have the opportunity, get a copy of the Prevention mag and read the article about low glycemic eating. Lately, it's been getting attention everywhere-finally, people are validating what we have known to be true, this WOE does work!!! You are right about the body not being able to metabolize refined sugars-but can you even imagine what all these preservatives do to our bodies, that's even more scary! Since I started SB, not only have I made a pact to follow this WOE to a T-, but also, I started to eat healthier in the respect that I won't buy things with chemical preservatives in them, esp. things I don't know how to say, much less know what they are. Oh yes, I can sympathize on those thighs you had way back when-I remember mine being so raw from rubbing together!!! I love your ODDYSEY pictures!!!!
ANNETTE, snow, you lucky devil! Can't really complain, weather was beautiful today, but I'd love a little cooler weather, so bring some back to the Sunshine State! Sounds like you really did get some deals up there. Glad to hear you haven't gained. I remember one of my customers was on Predisone and she really had a bad weight gain, so you are probably right about your weight going down slowly, BUT, can you imagine what will happen when you go off it-boy, you'll probably disappear!!!! When do you head back home???
SAS, glad to have you back on the board. We've missed you. Don't worry about any stores there except TRADER JOES! I'm sure they have some in Mass, don't they??? Seems you are taking well to your new surroundings-esp the weight room, and you're doing well, congrats on another 4.5lbs!!! When you go to reply, you'll see at the bottom AVATAR, click on that, there are some everyone can use, otherwise, you need to load up some gifs, which you can find on the web. Others can probably explain this better than I, it's new to me too.
CHERI, thanks for the nice words for me, and for Sharon, I'll pass them along to her. It's going to be getting nastier for her, but I'll be here for her every step of the way.
Well ladies, I'm gonna call it a night. Please remember, TOMORROW IS TUESDAY TIPS I am planning on posting some very interesting information about OATMEAL, so make sure you check it out.
Also, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE GET YOUR BIO POSTED ON THE NEW UPDATED BIO BOARD!. The link is below:

Have a wonderful evening, and I'll check in with you all some time tomorrow!!!

Good Monday everyone...
GatorGal:
I had your wonderful Ratataoule (sp?) tonight. It was in the freezer from the last time I made it so I put it over spaghetti squash and heated it up. Love it!
Sparkle:
You mentioned, when you reply you open a window by using ctrl + n so you can refer back to the posts. When I do that, I get my home page.. Could you maybe walk me through it?? It must be wonderful to wake up in HI every morning. I was first introduced to your wonderful state when my brother and his wife were married in the Fern Grotto on Kauai (in the 80s). We stayed at a wonderful townhouse on the beach. The reception was at the Coco Palms...... a great time was had by all!! The next week we stayed on Maui in Sugar Beach in a condo. Great memories and pictures. We have only been back once but I think we will make it a point to go in the next year or two!! I liked your observation of "thighs". It is amazing the freedom we give up when we choose to eat wrong...
Debbie:
I finally made it to Whole Foods today to get the Agave Necter... 2 bottles. When I got home I noticed that I had picked up the Dark. Have you ever used the Dark. The only one I have tasted is the Light.
Hope the day went well for you and Sharon. Size 4!! Frame them!!
Quilter:
I think you may have asked about how to cook Spaghetti Squash. When I cook it, I leave it whole (puncture a few times with a fork). Just put it in a pan with a little water in it and cook at 350 for about an hour and 15 minutes. Cut it in half, remove the seed by scraping with a fork and then take the fork and scrape the entire squash. It comes out in strings just like spaghetti. Great with a little butter, salt and pepper. Tonight I put GatorGals Ratatatouli (sp?) on it.
Viv:
Glad to hear you had a good time on vacation. Hope to make it to Disney/FL someday, Disney/CA is just so much closer! Have had your dad and family in my prayers. Please keep us posted. It must have been a blast to meet Debbie - the Patron Saint of SugarBusters!!
My weekend with my grandson and daughter went well. I love them both so dearly!! We celebrated his 11th birthday (April 6th) a week early because next week mom is surprising him with a trip to Knots Berry Farm in LA (not Louisiana) and birthday dinner at Wild Bills.. They will fly down and spend the weekend. He is ADHD (heavy on the "H" - Hyper)! He attends a special school in San Francisco and is currently residential. Goes home on weekends. We took him to see Spy Kids and went to the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner. I got him some new shorts, etc. from Old Navy and a "Gift Card" from Toys R Us. He really likes to do him own spending, especially when it looks like a credit card!! He is a wonderful, funloving, compassionate little boy and my heart goes out to him. ADHD has him in constant motion.. the first signs of it showed up when he was 18months. What a curse..
Anyone on the board from Arizona?? We're going to go check out Sedona in June.. just wondering about it. My husband is always on the lookout for a place to retire. We're tired! We are both native Californians and it will be hard to give up the weather and the ocean!!
My son (21) who just moved to Tulsa in February called the other night and said he just realized (ha, ha) that there is no "beach"! Said he is feeling very land-locked! We've always been within 20 minutes of one.. here in San Jose, close to Santa Cruz. And I was raised close to the world famous(ta-da) Pismo Beach!!
Well dear friends, I need to run and get a few things done around the house... thinking of you all!

DEBBIE I found the JokNAl jam but none of there other products were available :( I particularly was after the pickle.
The jam I got was VERY nice though, very real and not waterey like all other diet ones Ive tried.
SPARKLE Ive just spent ages at that other site reading all your inspriation. I see you have your own site underway too. Was interested to see all the old photos of you , you have come such a long way in your recoverey and seem to me to be a strong bright women capable of anything you put your mind too :)
I have been toying with OA but couldnt manage to give up all flours and measure all my food for any length of time. I also dont have any meetings in my area.
You sure are lucky to live in Hawaii if you dont really get winter....
We have had nothing but rain and wind the last 3 days and I hate it. I always want to hybernate in the cold.
My eating went all to hell to along with the sunshine :( so I need to pick myself up somehow . Its so hard all over again though as soon as I get that sugar in my system!!!!
DEBBIE what is PB is it peanut butter??
Have had a read of the book SB . Its a pretty quick read isnt it. No suprises and nothing my mind does battles with, its only this poor addicted body.
oh well enough of me and my moaning, sorry for being such a droopy drawers!!
look Im smiling :)
Rosalie 04-03-2001, 12:05 AM Good evening everyone :)
Though I'd get in a post tonite as I will be up and out early tomorrow morning.
CathyCathy - I wish you well on your first week on SB. I think the Angel Hair pasta should be O.K. The important thing is that it is made with Durum Semolina although SB does recommend that we use whole wheat. There is a good article on pasta on the FOOD BOARD which is taken from Montignac's book. Here's the link if you would like to check it out: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2365.
Lisa - Hi and welcome to the board. Sorry to hear about your son but glad to hear he is now doing O.K. There's a great group here and you will get lots of support.
Viv - Welcome back. It sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. Too bad you had to come back to lousy weather. Just believe IT WILL GET BETTER. My thoughts are with you and your Dad. Hope things turn out well for him.
SolShine - Hi and welcome. It's true that the meal plan in the book is for maintenance - don't ask why they put it in there without explaining that it was for maintenance only. It might be a good idea to post your menu - someone should be able to offer suggestions on any changes you need to make. You really shouldn't be hungry on this woe. There are so many things that we can eat. We do have to be careful though with the starchy carbs but we can have lots of veggies, also salads, chicken, fish, eggs. Lentils, peas and beans are also allowed, as they are mostly low gi, although we do have to watch quantities. You can still hinder weight loss if you eat too much of the allowable foods. It is recommended to have no more than two, maybe three servings of starchy carbs per day for weight loss. A serving is 1 slice of SGWW bread, 1/2 cup brown rice, 1/2 cup pasta.
Rodeo - Congratulations to your daughter for all her trophys. Sounds like you had a busy time in the kitchen. You're very ambitious making your own pasta sauce. I'll try to fill you in on the walking video. The one I use is Leslie Sansone's 2 MILE WALK. I thought it was kind of weird when I first heard about it. Had visions of just walking around the house. Anyway it involves a bit of walking on the spot, side stepping, arm swinging. The tape runs for about 30 minutes and the idea is to keep moving all the time. There aren't any fancy steps to learn, all the moves are easy to do. The moves change all the time so it doesn't get boring. It's a vey good workout. Leslie has her own website if you want to check it out. http://www.lesliesansone.com.
Chris - Sound like you had fun on your camping trip.
Greenezey - Hi and welcome.
GloryB - Don't worry about those 2 pounds. Now you are back on the board I am sure you are going to stick to the plan and control those portions. Also if it is that time of month again then it is probably just fluid. We are all here to give you support.
MsLiz - Welcome back. Glad to hear you are back on track again. Keep it up!
BigO - Glad you got through your first smoke free day. Think how much better you are going to feel and how much money you can save. BEEN THERE DONE THAT - 12 years ago. And no I'm not swimming tonite. Had enough for one day, exercise this morning and this afternoon I played badminton. I'll save swimming for another day. (Also have to keep my hair looking decent for work tomorrow.)
Annette - Glad you are enjoying your visit with your Mom. I agree with Cheri that any steroid like prednisone shouldn't be stopped abruptly, particularly if you have been on it a long time. It would be a good idea to check with your doctor. If you are on it a long time, and depending on the dosage, your body can stop making its own steroid, that is why it should be tapered gradually so the body has a chance to start producing its own again.
Sara - Welcome back. It's good to hear you have settled into your new home O.K. and good that you have that exercise room. Congrats on that 4.5 pound loss. Cutting out the breads must be working for you.
Goodnite all
Marie.
Walked 4.3 miles today after work. Did it in 67 minutes.
ROSALIE, sounds like you had quiet a time with those grandkids yesterday. Such a wise idea to eat lunch before you brought them to McDonalds, that way you were't tempted to eat off program! The work that your son is doing on the cottage sounds like it will be really nice. I know you will enjoy that very much. I didn't realize that you had mosquitoes in Canada.
KAREN, What you told BOB was really interesting about no one invites you to their house to smoke, etc...I've never heard that before, but very wise advise. Also, your WW pasta dish sounds interesting. Will be waiting to hear how it comes out.
Bunny Lover, so sorry to hear that you are in a funk & depressed. It sounds as though you know what the problem is though...If you really want to lose the weight, then you will have to decide to make the right choices concerning the foods you eat. You know that this WOE is a good plan & that it works, so what are you waiting for? You have the right idea to start journalling your intake. Also, use fitday to chart your choices to see how much fiber, fruits, etc you are taking in. You can do it! & we are here for you. Also, are you exercising? It will help you in all aspects, physical, mentally, etc. Don't give up on yourself!
DEBELLI, Today's 4.3 mile adventure walk was a little different. I'm in the country, right? Well guess what are not only in the ditches, but today, coming on the road? That's right....2 snakes. One was a blue runner but I managed to stay clear of it. Next to dogs, which I am deathly afraid of, are these slimmy creatures. LOL But they're not keeping me from being out there. Hey, I agree with Rosalie, why not post the Birthdays on your intro at the beginning of each month!
StarChaser, 15 #!! WOW!! You are :smoking: I know how you must be excited. Do that Happy Dance right there in your heart & mind! I'm sure you have been on cloud 9 all day & you deserve to be. I find that I have been doing alot more cooking & enjoying it since I'm back on SB. DH is enjoying that postive aspect too...LOL Legal Sauce? I hear 5 Brother's sauce is legal & you can make your own. I will try to post one that I tried the other day.
GATORGAL, So sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble with your puter. Have you tried clearing your history & Cache under your Browser Perferences? Sometimes that gets too full & it helps to clear it. Worth a try!
CATHYCATHY, I read somewhere that thin pasta is low GI, but according to SB, I don't think it's allowed because it's not WW, however, there is a WW Angel Hair pasta on the grocer shelves & it's very good.
Lisa_A_A, Welcome to the BOARD. So glad you have found us & have decided to join us. You will find a great group of supportive & informative ladies here that are always ready to help. Sorry to hear about the diagnoses of your son, but glad to hear that he is stable now. Do this for yourself cause I'm sure you want to be healthy & well for yourself as well as for him.
VIV, good to see you made it home safely. Too bad the weather is nasty, but it sounds like you & the family had a wonderful time in FLA. Sure hope you can work things out with your dad to get him closer to you. I know that would ease your worries about him alot.
SolShine, Welcome to the BOARD! You've made a wise choice with SB & also with joining us! We look forward to getting to know you too. Your question about the 14 day menu...you know, I had read the book when I started SB a couple of years ago & didn't catch that the menu was for maintenance. I didn't realize it until I read it here on this board...LOL Anyway, I used that 14 day menu to get started & I sure did lose with it. I guess that it was such a change in my diet that it was enough to make me lose.
RodeoMom, Ever since Overcome has told us about her Sf syrup in oatmeal I have enjoyed it too. Had some this morning. I found a recipe for SF dressing & tried it tonight. It has SF maple syrup, dijon mustard, olive oil, & balsamic vinegar. It is delicious! I will post the recipe. Would be awesome with chicken too...DID YOU HEAR THAT BOB?? BTW, your homemade Spaghetti sauce sounds great. You've sure put alot of work into it.
Liz, well at least you found your way back & you are back on track...that's what counts!
MARGARET, Agave Nectar in BR? Guess I may need to take a ride up there one week-end...what is the name of the HFS? Do you remember? Well now, Abbeville has a couple of famous restarunts, like Dupris. They are fabulous for seafoods.
GLORYB!!! I agree, it's hard to keep up with the reading here, but I sure do try! Look forward to it everyday!
BOB, Horrah for you on being smoke free...day1...you can do this!
Sasahm, so glad that you are settled in Mass & have made your way back to this board. We've missed you. This area will take you some getting use to, huh? But I'm sure you & MapQuest will do fine...LOL
ANNETTE, OMG, yes! Predisone sure will make you gain weight! I didn't realize that you were on it. I'm so glad you & your friend figured it out. Cheri is absolutely right...you must NOT stop this medication cold turkey...you have to wean off of it slowly. Talk to you DR about it. Hope you enjoy the rest of your visit.
Good night ladies!
Rosalie, we were posting at the same time! LOL And you posted my FAVORITE CAT!! love it!!! Catch you later
Frog Lover 04-03-2001, 12:27 AM Motivational Thought Regarding Goal Setting
Take Baby Steps...
"You can't climb up to the second floor without a ladder. When you set your goal too high and don't fulfill it, your enthusiasm turns to bitterness. Try for a goal that's reasonable, and then gradually raise it."
Emil Zatopek, 4-time Olympic gold medalist from Czechoslavakia
I started out the morning OK until I stepped out on the back deck and slipped on the little bit of frost that had accumulated from all the rain followed by cold temps. Scared Mr. HB (Mr. Honey Bunny - DH) to death and bruised me a bit.
Tomorrow I have what could be a VERY difficult meeting with a group of board members for a committee that I co-chair. We are having an "emergency" meeting to discuss some problems with the agency and some particular problems with the agency leadership. It could get heated, emotional and out-of-control. Since there was a bit of a letter writing campaign against myself and my boss, I have asked to have a moderator come in to facilitate. It's sad really. I raised concerns as the co-chair and a positive plan to systematically make improvements. It was viewed as a planned sabbotage with a hidden agenda. Please keep a happy thought for me tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. EDT that I will be able to keep my chin up and my guard down!
VR - what browser are you using? IE, NN or AOL?
BOB - "ain't got no whiiiiite liiiightnin' tuhniiiiiiite. Paw's fixed hima gin-an-tawnic an is jus a sawin' 'em lawgs on the sofer." I'm watching the game! Glad to read that you've given up the smokes! Remember :smoking: is a :nono: !
SPARKLE - Thanks for being willing to assist with some Hawaiin goodies. I wrote down your email address and will use it soon. We call that rubbing that you get between your thighs "chub rub." I've had my fair share of it and hope that I will be chub rub free this summer. BTW - I stopped marathon training for no reason in particular. I took the taper to the extreme after the race. Then I became very sick with my allergies last year, followed by a depression and sunsequent weight gain.
DEB - I think it's great that you are able to be and are so supportive of your friend Sharon. I hate that she is going through such a trying time. Hope I don't have a "Dookie Howser" aka "packing dookie" problem this WIW. Trying to force the water and fiberous foods.
STAR - Way to go! This is a wonderful, healthy WOE. Glad you've been successful. That will REALLY help get your momentum going now.
VIV - Sorry to hear about your Dad. We'll keep a good thought for him and the rest of your family!
GLORYB - thanks for your comments.
QUILTER - I am going to get the book "The 4 agreements" that you suggested. I had it on my Christmas List but didn't get it. I think it would help!
WELCOME NEWBIES!!!
Oh I hope I addressed everyone. Hi to everyone!
Anyone have any idea who will be the next to go on Survivor?
Good night!
Peace,
Frog
Rosalie 04-03-2001, 12:28 AM Debbie - Your post didn't show up until I had posted mine. Yes, I meant to put the birthdays for the month on your introductory page for the weekly boards. Although I guess you will sometimes have two lists of birthdays when the new weekly board overlaps the month. What do you think?
Marie.
GatorGal 04-03-2001, 12:31 AM Wow! Two times in one day for me. I hardly ever get to the board that much.
SOLSHINE--Welcome. We are VERY close to each other. Look on the bio board (I think my bio is on page 2) and find my e-mail address and e-mail me and we can find out exactly HOW close. Maybe we can meet at the Loop or Chamberlains or someplace. Might be fun.
Sasahm--I know exactly what you mean about the roads up there in New England. They are SO different from here in FL too. They actually are much prettier, and the eye blight is not present. But just to find a gas station is an adventure unless you live in the area and know where they are. And I had to laugh about the donut shoppes. They are everywhere up there!! They have great fried clams up there. To die for. As good as the beignets from the Cafe du Monde.
Bib Orange--Ha Ha, I had to laugh at your scolding me. :)
I needed it. I loved the Titans (How do you spell that?) movie. It had a lot of good themes. Good going on the smoking project. They don't call cigs "coffin nails" for nothing. My daughter smokes and I hope she gives it up soon. She did once. Used the patch and it worked like a charm.
Annette--The weather was great today. A little on the cool side for me, and I bet it is windy over at the beach. It was in the 70's. Should be in the 70's all week. I knew your husband was probably p****d over Mich. losing. All our teams did pretty well. I, too, was pulling a little for Ariz. for the same reason as you. But, the final buzzer has buzzed, and the Dooks have won.
Well, gotta go. It's late. SolShine, I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
Bee125 04-03-2001, 12:58 AM Hey FROG, My DH and I call each other hunny bunny too, cos were Honeycombe's, lol

201.2/143/135
Bee125: Thank you.. that worked like a charm and I will use it for my post tomorrow..
Frog: I'm using NN. Sorry about your "slip". Hope you're not too bruised. Good luck with your meeting tomorrow.
MargaretA 04-03-2001, 08:58 AM OMG, thank goodness I didn't buy that guava nectar after all! I reallly think I was looking at GUAVA NECTAR and not AGAVE!!! I didn't buy it because it looked funny, but don't anyone go to Baton Rouge looking for agave nectar, there probably isn't any. What a doofus! I am going to try the stevia, I was told not to use much, so I'll be careful with it.
I don't know why I looked at this board now, I have to leave here in 10 minutes and won't have time to reply to everyone. Hopefully, I will go to the gym after school and then get back here. I have a sore lower back because I lifted a piece of marble the other day. I am going to make a little table out of it, but dadgum, it was heavy.
One more thing, I bought these 99 cent Carb Solutions bars last week. They are not that great, but have come in handy in a pinch when there was nothing for breakfast. I really thought they would fill me up for a while, and they do a pretty good job at 2 g. of carbos and no sugar. Calorie count is 230, so they aren't the best snack in the world. But for a breakfast replacement I guess they're okay.
Have a terrific Tuesday!
karen3000 04-03-2001, 10:09 AM Frog - Keep your head up. Sounds like you are doing what you feel is best for the agency and others have their own agenda. I'll be sending good vibes your way!
BOB - Way to go! We are all pullin' for ya!!!
Karen
RodeoMom 04-03-2001, 10:15 AM Okay...what the heck is Aguave Nectar and what do you use it for...seems like the whole board is in search of it and I feel like I am missing out on something. Besides I love a shopping challenge. Oh who is kidding who...I just love to shop.
MsLiz1956 04-03-2001, 10:24 AM Happy Tuesday, EveryBUDDY!
Thanks for the kind re-welcoming - it feels good to be missed! Honestly, I've been rather depressed & out of sorts. It's the time of year - I don't do well in late winter in this area of the country...constant gloom kinda wears one down! I had initially planned to head back out West after my divorce, until I met this wonderful guy.... He's worth staying in Ohio for!
I don't have time this a.m. to post the way I want - too daggone busy trying to catch up after being off - but special hugs to Debelli...
TUESDAY TIP: For heaven's sake, DON'T stop visiting the board!!! This is a great place to hang out & a wonderful way to stay on track.
Later!
didjaever 04-03-2001, 11:02 AM Well, here I am again!! Sorry I was away for a week or so. I just totally messed up SB and felt ashamed to talk about it with everyone. For some reason, I totally lost it last week and tried starting SB over 3 times. This morning, once again, I start over and hope that I can get back on track.
Good news is that I only gained back about 3 pounds of my original 8 pound lose.
It is GREAT to see so many new faces here!!
Debelli 04-03-2001, 12:21 PM Good Tuesday Morning Everyone!
Well, I must start off by sharing with all of you I HAD MY NEW BEST WALK EVER!!!! As I sit here, dripping with sweat and probably smelling like a skunk:eek: I walked my 4.5 miles in 57 minutes 35 seconds. This is over 40 seconds better than my previous best. I woke up late this morning, late for me at least, and didn't get out to walk til almost 9am, and it was really starting to get hot. I almost didn't go, Sharon wanted me to go with her today, but I said no, and decided to get in that walk, and boy, am I glad!!!!! I'm dancing on air-what a great feeling-never knew I could walk so fast!!!:spin:
Today is TUESDAY TIPS and I found a great website that gives a lot of information about OATMEAL that I thought was interesting enough to share. Just click on the link below and it will take you directly to the site:
http://karenskitchen.com/11/a/oat.htm
VR, don't worry about getting the dark agave, sometimes they get in the light, sometimes the dark, I really don't think it makes any difference between the two, the dark may have a bit stronger taste. Found another site to learn more about agave nectar:
http://www.preparedfoods.com/archives/1999/9906/9906western.htm
Glad to hear you had a good time with the Grandkids. You sound like a loving and dotting Grandmother. I think someone on the board is from AZ, will have to check the BIO BOARD. Hey, tell your hubby, you aren't moving anywhere unless there's a TJ's nearby!!! LOL!!!
BEE, glad to hear you found some of the jam. Surprised you weren't able to find other products, though I am sure you will, somewhere else. Which flavor(s) did you get?? Sorry, yes, PB is peanut butter. I take dry roasted, unsalted peanuts in throw them in my food processor and make very smooth, very easy to spread, PB-it's far better than anything I could possibly buy in any store, not to mention, a lot cheaper.
ROSALIE, any idea what the exchange rate is now? I want to make sure I give Eli some money to get me some things while he's up there-he better not come home without my stash of 222's!!!! Hope it warms up a bit, he's not partial to the really cold weather. I'll post those b.days in the intro page each week, overlap when needed-thanks for the idea.
MELF, you are burning that pavement up! You're walking almost as long as I am, and your timing is really good too. You can have snakes any day, I'll dodge cars, thank you!
FROG, great motivational thought, thanks for sharing! Ouch, sorry to hear about your slip up-hope you aren't aching today. Hope things go well with that meeting today, sounds hairy. LOL-chub rub, not funny when it happens to you, but cute name! I think the two of us getting together would be a hoot, gosh knows what we'd come up with between us! Here's one for you, bathroom, we stupidly refer to as the "urination station". As for dookie houser, lets pray we both don't have that problem tomorrow! Hmmm, I think maybe Nick is next on Survivor, seems he wants to go, plus, what does he ever do that's good? I just hope no one is mean spirited to vote Roger off, or Elisabeth, she's just so cute!
RHROO, I couldn't agree with you more that we have a great group who cares about each other and wants each other to get to their goal. Suzanne (3FC's) always tells me what a great group we have, which of course, I know without being told!!!! I don't think being away from the family on the weekends is truly the answer. You have to find out WHY being around them makes you eat badly on the weekends. I know for me, when I was around my ex, I would eat, uncontrollably, due to frustration and emotions-even after he was out of the house, when he would come over, or even the knowing he was coming to get the kids, I'd eat-anything! Even if I didn't like it. I ate from emotions. And like you mentioned, even though I lost weight in the past, I gained it back, because I didn't tackle this problem-this time around, I tackled it. Something is triggering you on the weekends, try to find out what it is and find out a way to handle it without using food. Once you can do this, you'll be well on your way to keeping the weight off. Find some new foods to put into your WOE-that too will help.
MARGARET, LOL! I too am glad you didn't buy the guava nectar, I know they make it! Nope, AGAVE nectar is what you truly want. Hope you got in your exercise and your back is feeling better:)
RODEO, I use agave nectar in place of honey when I bake, which isn't often, but the things I've used it in have come out delicious!! Esp. the zuchinni loaf cake-just ask BIGO and/or GATOR, they tried it. I also use it in place of syrup, though I water it down a bit. It has no after taste, not as strong as honey and is very low on the GI, I think it's ranked 11. Try to find it, you won't be disappointed!
MISLIZ, the weather will change for the better soon, and so will your outlook. Just stick it out. Get back into your groove of working out, you know you always feel better when you do.
DIDJA, glad to have you back. Don't ever be ashamed of saying you had a set back, it's not the end of the world. Just getting back onto the board shows you have the want to get back on plan. I hope today you can tell us that it was a breeze for you. You'll get back on track, and those 3lbs will come off quickly-don't you worry. If you have a slip up, just scrape yourself off and get right back into the swing of things. You know you can do this!!
Where does the time go, geez, I haven't had the chance to even eat yet!!!
I'll check in with you all sometime later. Please remember, TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!!!!! Hope the metal monster is a little kitten for us all tomorrow!!
Have a great day!

GloryBI 04-03-2001, 12:57 PM HELLO LADIES:)
Well it's a cold wet day here in the northwest. and I'm not even depressed. It's just so good to be able to get on the board.
You all sound like your doing so well. It's a wonderful WOE, I was at WalMart this wk end and my hubby was along and I overheard him telling a lady there that we were using SB and that just look at my wife she's lost 94lbs boy was I surprise. He never says much at home other than to say i'm looking good. Which thrills me to the bones :o He's always good to me. But I hated the part where I had to come up to him and correct him cause of my ugly gain. I'm back at 88lbs lost so I must do it again caus I have along way to go yet.
Well enough of that. I'm really not sure how i'm going to incorporate some exercise into my life. With the arthritus in the knees it's jut so hard, but i'm determined so i'll find something.
Deb: Thanks for the support i really appreciate it. You've been so great. Lots of prayers are being said for sharon hope she holding up ok.
Sparkle: Your right it is a big circle. and the support is a nessisary part of that in my life. I've been doing this dieting sence feb. of 2000, and lost 94lbs but as you can see with out the support I gained 6lbs back. so I'm just not as self motivating as others. But if you can reach that inner self motivation you go girl. sounds like you've been doing pretty good yourself. Doing a good job of losing.
Annette: You got it girl were going to do this together us SBer's need to stick together.
BOB: Snugglebug is still a little strange from the stroke but just a puppy yet so hopefully as she get older things will be easier for her to learn as she slows down.
She really only has learned a couple of words like ( No and all gone, and do you want out) Were working on down and sit but she doesn't seem to get it. Oh well we still love her she's the greatest:love:
Rosalie: Thanks for the support I need all I can get. This is my life and I'm committted to it.
Melf: lots and lots to read when your not on every day. I find that just posting on a daily basis I'm on for an hour at least. maybe I say to much. I also find that if I don't read all the post I miss things that are going on in peoples lives that I want to hear about so that I can help support them so it just take some time.
Frog: Are you ok? That sounded like a nasty slip you took. Hope your not hurt to much. as for you meeting i'll be thinking good thoughts an saying a prayer for you thats at 9:30 your time.
Well it's time to go  love to all glory
SolShine 04-03-2001, 01:01 PM Here’s a good sample day for me:
Breakfast – 1 to 1 ½ cups of Uncle Sam Cereal with soy milk (enough to cover the edge of the cereal pile) I never measure my food. :s:
Mid morning – mini 4 oz. Carton of cottage cheese and 1 piece of fruit (peaches, oranges or grapefruits mostly)
Mid-mid morning – a few nuts or about 4-5 Triscuits
Lunch – Sandwich of turkey, chicken or beef (cheap “Land of Frost” chopped, pressed sandwich meat 2.5 oz.), lettuce, tomato, lite mayo, mustard on Ezekiel bread. (Sometimes I don’t have the lettuce and tomato) - Sugar Free/Diet soda and sometimes a few nuts or salad.
Mid-afternoon snack – salad or an apple
Dinner – meat (chicken/fish/steak – simply prepared) and steamed broccoli or green beans. At least once a week we have Chicken Squeezer (Caesar) Salad. I use those frozen chicken tenderloins and have about 2 of them on the salad. Other dishes we probably have 3 – 3 ½ tenderloins each. unsweet tea or water and 1 glass of red wine (merlot or cabernet usually)
Fish portion – 1 filet, whatever size they have.
Steak portion – we usually buy 1 lb. Total for 2 steaks and I eat one of them (the smaller one if there is an obvious difference in size)
Dessert – rarely, but when I do lately it’s been SugarBusters ice cream.
I use a lot of recipes from the Cooking Light magazines we used to get and the “Desperation Dinners” book I checked out of the library once. The meals are usually very simple and do not use a lot of prepared ingredients. Like spaghetti squash with hamburger sauce, taco salads without any chips….
My dear sweet husband (who is in incredible shape) does every diet with me (except the Cabbage Soup and Weight Watchers points) has suffered through Protein Power, Eat Right for Your Type and many others, doesn’t bring anything into the house that he knows I can’t have and would be tempted to have. I have total control of the menu and he’s agreeable to whatever I choose. He likes eating healthy and eats tuna for lunch almost every day (I can’t imagine doing that! I like too much variety!)
I can’t stand to work out in front of anyone (chub rub and middle jiggle) so I get to the gym at work at 6am and do the treadmill and sometimes the stationary bike (but it hurts my buttocks after a while and I can’t use any resistance on it yet) and then some weights, but I know I’m not pushing myself hard enough in this area. I eat the cereal before I work out and then by 8:30am I’m famished. Days I don’t get up and work out I walk after work for about 30 minutes, but I don’t get very far yet.
I did follow the breakfast, lunch menus for the first 14 days from the sample in the book, but my own dinners. I don’t really notice any changes in my clothes, but I haven’t measured with a tape measure – guess I should do that since I can’t get a consistent reading from any scales.
Any input, advice, tips will be most gratefully appreciated!!!
SparkleSkamp – “I would have never finished a marathon if I hadn’t had gone through that. “ wow!!! I’m soooo impressed! I’m working on just walking a mile in under 30 minutes and without my left foot cramping up on me. I looked at your website and I must say I’m impressed with your determination and resilience. It is frustrating when we’re doing everything right as far as we can tell and nature fights us. :( You are a survivor, I can tell!! I'm glad you're here!
Annette – I was prescribed Prednisone for a root canal gone bad twice and, not only did I gain weight, I was asbolutely stark raving hungry the whole time I was on it. I’m glad you’re going to look for another foot doctor. Adding weight because of medicine is not going to help your feet any more than the medicine will.
BigO – I quit smoking 5 years ago and it was the hardest thing I ever did. I used Kevin Klein’s 21 days to quit smoking tapes. They were great. It’s a 3-5 minute segment each day that you listen to and it tells you what improvements are going on in your body on that day that you’ve quit. It also handles the different pressures, stress and temptations that you will most likely face on certain days. (I also kept gum and mints handy!) Congratulations!! Thanks for pointing me here!!! I lurked and read some of the suggested threads and waited to start fresh on Monday.
Quilter – I cut spaghetti squash in half and poke holes in the outside of the sides with a fork – pop it in a microwave safe 9x13 pan for about 8 minutes – flip the halves over and cook for about another 5-10 minutes then scrape the stringy squash out. Served plain with butter is yummy, but we usually serve it with browned ground beef added to a jar of Classico or Brothers Spaghetti Sauce and some oregano and basil to the mixture. Most of the Classico and Brothers flavors of sauce have no sugar in them. Our favorite is the Sun Dried Tomato Classico sauce.
Debelli – I can’t believe I’m just a few months behind getting meet all the Floridians on this board!! We’ll just have to do it again some time! I’m looking forward to getting a handle on this WOE and seeing the great results people here have seen.
Melf – I love your quote!! I’ll be starting afresh with SB and here at 3FC with y’all.
FrogLover – It’s hard to do the right thing sometimes. I’ll be praying for a positive outcome for you! People should be thankful that you have noticed something that needs to be strengthened and offered a solution to the problem. Most people would just complain and whine about it. I think Nick is going next. Looks like they are going to have to vote someone off to get more food based on the previews last week. I’m in an office pool and I have Cody and Roger – I just hope one of them wins! Cody certainly earned some brownie points last week with the coral. I don’t think he’s going anywhere anytime soon. Just sooooo glad to see Jerri gone!
GatorGal – I e-mailed you! Looking forward to meeting!
Didjaever – I love that handle!!
Thank you, everyone!! Thank you for the warm welcome! I’m looking forward to this new ending!!
Holy Ka-schmoley!! If you read all this, THANK YOU!!! I’ll try to not be so long-winded next time. I promise.
The Quilter 04-03-2001, 02:06 PM Hi Everyone! Feeling sick today. I came home early from work yesterday and went straight to bed (with frequent trips to the bathroom). Never did “make faces” to quote Deb, but did manage to clean myself out good. Weighed in this morning and was three pounds lighter than yesterday. Anyways, stayed home today and am trying to ignore the rumblings in the southern regions. There is a super nasty bug going around up here. Two co-workers have had the up-chucks over the weekend. So I feel lucky if I get to escape that.
DEB---I’m happy to see a poll that I finally feel good about and can pat myself on the back!!! You bet, I voted right away on this one! Speaking of water . . . I’ve been buying a pint box of lemons from the open air market and have slicing them in my water and my tea. Also squeeze them over grapes & sliced apples , really enhances the taste of both fruits. Glad to hear that round 1 is leaning way over to Sharon’s side. Truth always wins out. It might take a while, but it always does. Give her my best and a big hug!!! Also, love the yogurt and pb idea. I’m a yogurt freak!!!! Will definitely try that. When you make your pb, do you just make enough for one serving or do you make a bunch and then refrigerate it? Just wondering how to handle that? If you put it in the refrigerator, does it get really hard and unsmoothable? Urination station??? Very funny. I LOL on that one.
STAR---Congrats on the 15 pounds. You are doing so well. See what happens when you are committed to something. We all can learn a lesson from your successes this past month. Are your clothes feeling any differently yet?
GATOR---Sorry you lost your motivational post and sorry you feel like you need a scolding. I won’t scold . . . just encourage. You’re right that each new day brings another opportunity to stay OP and get one step closer to your goal. Hang in there. It can be hard to stay strong when entertaining. I was totally shocked with myself last weekend when we had overnight visitors. I bought some really wonderful Chaballa bread from my Italian grocer. Sister, you can bet that stuff smells great coming out of the oven, but it’s loaded with white flour and I didn’t even eat one bite. I felt so proud of myself (which is a rarity for me). Hope you have a great week.
CATHYCATHY---Hope your first day went well. I'm so glad that you started this plan. How great that you and RODEO can support each other face to face!
LISA---Welcome!!! You are right, you will get a huge amount of support here. We are so glad that you’ve arrived. I’m extremely sorry to hear about your son’s illness. Will start to pray that his health continues to get better. Keep us posted about that as well as your SBing.
VIV---Hey, girl!!! Your trip sounded wonderful! What a great mom you are to give your kids such fantastic memories!!! Sounds like you want to move to FL and work at Disney yourself! They could use you I’m sure. I was so jealous when Deb was talking about meeting you and sitting with you while you got your nails done and then going for a snack together. I know how much fun those DEB meetings can be and wanted to be there too. (ok, pity party’s over!) I’ll be thinking about you and your dad and hoping for the best. That is such a great idea to get him closer to you especially while he’s undergoing his treatment for this. Did I tell you about the wonderful woman who volunteers with us who is a LONG TIME survivor of LC. She had it years ago and you wouldn’t even know it. She’s got more life and energy than me and the rest of the women at our office. So take heart. We could be saying this about your day too. Glad you’re back. I know you were having a spectacular time, but I missed you.
SOLSHINE---Welcome to the board!!! We are glad you are here. Thanks for the spag squash microwave instructions. Sounds like a good idea. I think your meals look pretty good, but I’m not an expert. Wait to hear what DEB and some of the others say. My question is how much water you are drinking. I find if I am constantly drinking water, that fills me up.
RODEO---Give my congrats to your daughter . . . she really must have been working hard. Sounds like you were h*ll on wheels in the kitchen. I’ve never canned tomato sauce but always wanted to. Tried to learn once from a farmer friend, but am too petrified of that pressure cooker. How do you do yours? Yes, we’ll party on Nov 20 . . . they sure do come around quicker each year! About Salad dressings . . . I have found two ranch dressings that each have 1 gram of sugar in them. One kind comes from the Aldi’s grocery store. Don’t know if you have them near you and the other comes from the Dollar General store. Someone recommended it to me and I really do like it. I’m not certain if the 1 gram is a no-no, but I don’t pour the dressing on my salad . . . the dressing goes in a small bowl at the side and I dip my fork in the dressing and then into my salad. I think I use a lot less that way.
GLORY---So glad you are back with us too. But I’m so sorry about that one-eyed monster not treating you right!!! Send it my way and I'll kick it for you. At least you are now aware of the problem and can put that thing in reverse! I’m hoping that you have a loss real soon. It certainly can help when you see the numbers going down. I LOL when you said you went to WalMart everyday. If I did that DH would have a cow!!! I too can always find something to buy there, much to his chagrin. I loved what you said about your husband at Walmart. What a sweetie he is!!! I’ll bet that felt great . . . if only you didn’t have to be so honest about the other six pounds. Ugh!!! I guess that’s good motivation to keep going, huh? I think I missed something . . .what’s this about Snugglebug and a stroke??? Hope everything is okay.
MISSLIZ---We wondered where you were!!! So glad to see that you are back with us. Way to go on stopping yourself with the out of control syndrome. I wish I had been as smart as you las fall when I proceeded to eat everything that wasn’t nailed down. The few pounds that you gained will probably come off quickly since they went on so fast. So anyways, don’t leave us again. I often think of your “little black dress” picture and get motivated to stay on track because I want a dress just like that. See how much you bring to our group.
MARGARET---I relate with you about the time change making me so tired. Yuck! Hey, sorry you didn’t like the sweet potato chips. I really love them, but only eat them every once in a while. This weekend they had a barbecue brand and a jalepeno brand too. Glad your trip went well and that you found others who could give support.
SPARKLE---You are so right about how inappropriate food is everywhere! I hadn’t put those exact words to it, but am totally amazed at what restaurants offer as a “balanced” meal. We have this great italian chain here in Cincy called LaRosas. Their food is so wonderful, but there is NOTHING I could eat there besides maybe an antipasto salad. And all they use is iceberg lettuce and we all know how boring that is. I’ve pretty much cut that out of the choices when meeting friends for lunch. I think everyone tends to just “give in” and “settle” for what’s available instead of being the one in control over what we eat.
ANNETTE---Good to hear that your vacation is going well and that you don’t mind the flakes! Just so long as you don’t have to shovel any, right? A successful shopping trip always puts me in a good frame of mind. What a relief for you to learn all that stuff about prednisone. My mom took it for MANY years because of very serious rheumatoid arthritis. I saw what that drug did to her and I’m glad you are aware of what it will do to you. I’m sure it has it’s good points, but my mother would just balloon up and be always “puffy”. I agree with CHERI and MELF, call your doctor before you go off it completely. Explain to him/her that you want to try an alternative type of medicine but that you want it out of your system as soon as possible. See if he has any ideas.
SASAHM---So glad you are back!!! I was just thinking about you the other day when I was looking through the bio board. Nobody talked bad about you while you were gone. Ha!!! You know that nobody ever talks bad about anybody when they’re gone. Congrats on getting everybody there and in one piece! Are you still unpacking boxes??? And congrats on the huge loss last week? Isn’t it great!!!!!
BOB---Way to go on Day 1!!!! That’s just great. We’re all on your side and routing against that evil nicotine. Supper last night sounded great!! You should have called . . . Paul and I would have been right over and brought dessert.
VR---Thanks for the instructions on the spaghetti squash. Sounds pretty easy to do. So am I understanding that you do not cut it in two before you cook it??? Please confirm this for me before I go our and buy one. Muchos gracias! You are such a wonderful grandma. I could really feel the tremendous love you have for your daughter and grandson. How great that you find things he likes (the shopping card) and give him that. I’ll bet you are so relieved to know that he is getting educated in a school that is prepared for him and his needs. My heart goes out to people with ADHD. So many of them are labeled with other negative terms and looked down upon. We have a couple of kids in our afterschool program that struggle with it. So often when their doctors are experimenting with their medicine, you don’t know who is going to walk through the door. It’s so hard for them. Some days they look so “out of it” just because of the drugs. But then I know that other days they are right on task and it’s because of the drugs too. I have always said I honor parents who have children with these problems. And now know to also give honor to the grandparents. Thanks for opening up my eyes to this.
MELF---If you are out there WALKING WITH SNAKES, I have NO excuse to sit on my butt. Wow, you be careful and watch your steps! Keep it up!!! You are doing great!!!
FROG---Hope your meeting went better than you expected. Sounds like some folks have lost sight of the mission and are too “attached” to other things to see what’s for the best. Hang in there. Must be a terribly awkward situation. We are all sending you are good thoughts!
RHONDA---I know I am repeating everybody else, but I have to say it! You have done an awesome job on this WOE. Think about that 50+ pounds you have lost and then picture that 50 pound bag of dog food that you are no longer carrying around with you every day. I wish you’d stop beating yourself up over your recent efforts. So, you’ve hit a plateau--in your eating and in your losing. You will get past this. I was giving myself all sorts of allowances to cheat for most of February through the first part of March. Then all of a sudden I kind of got that letting “slip ups” be part of my daily program would not get me to where I wanted to be. I finally gave my self the figurative kick in the pants and said, “Be 100% on this program or get off it all together.” I chose the first and told myself that eating off program was not going to be an option. Now I’m not always the pillar of strength when it comes to this sort of thing, but since March 20, I have been 100% true to the program. And counting today’s weigh in I am down 9 pounds from where i was on the 20th. (Let’s hope that sticks for WIW!) I’m not saying this to make me look good or to make you feel bad. Just know that anybody who has already lost 58 pounds on this program will definitely get herself back on track and make it to the finish line. Sorry for the preaching, but just felt it had to be said . . . you know me communicating, validating and appreciating. LOL. Take care and let yourself be okay with where you are right now knowing that it’s not the permanent place. Okay???
DIDJA---Glad you are back! I was hoping you hadn’t “broken up” with us. Okay, so you fell off the wagon. Guess what??? Most of us have been there at least once or twice. We would far rather you talk to us while you are off the wagon. It’s easier to deal with it if you talk about it with friends. We’re here to listen and give a helping voice.
Well, I have to say that missing one night on the board can really put a person behind. I am now caught up and have to say am feeling a bit better. But still have no appetite. Guess that’s one thing not to complain about. Glad I did stay home from work today, just to beat this thing before it gets too bad.
Have a great day.
Take care.

I just wanted to pop on and say THANK YOU to everyone for their good wishes about my Dad! I think we may find out results today (altho I will be out running all afternoon and evening....). My SIL told me (she works in a nursing home) that she has seen these late onset LC's be very slow moving....that was great to hear. So we'll see.
I have to admit I am overwhelmed by the posts and just cannot do the individual replies to everyone as of yet. I have been doing Disney trip reports for a friend and when I get through with those hopefully I can do the indiv posts again. Happily we are getting a second phone line installed at home (10 y.o. has discovered an online social life, the other day he was IM-ing 3 girls at once!!!) so I should be able to post more at home.
BTW I'm up 2. But I deserve it and am right back on track.
Hugs and thanksssssss to all of you wonderful women!

RodeoMom 04-03-2001, 03:10 PM Debelli: I just check the October calender and can you believe it another RodeoMom (she spells her Rodeo-Mom) and we are just a year apart...wonder where she is??
StarChaser 04-03-2001, 03:44 PM Bogie and I "burned the house down" last night. Happy Danced to Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye for the better part of an hour!
I know my results won't be 15 lbs ever month but I'll take whatever I can get!
I am still walking. I'm up to 1.3 miles a day. Can't seem to kick it up to 1.5 miles. That's my goal for the weekend! DEB and MELF: Look over your shoulder, I'm gaining on you!!! Yeah right!
MARGARET: I see you had a good weekend in Baton Rouge. Anytime you're in town, feel free to look me up. That go |
