I'm just curious if it's worth it/ has any "ground-breaking" diet advice, or if it's just a slightly modified version of basic diet knowledge . . . you know, eat more complex carbs, reduce your fat, monitor calories, avoid sugars, etc. I'm taking a nutrition class, and I've been dieting since I was 12, so I KNOW the diet stuff. I'm more interested in the "head" stuff now.

Of course, I suppose it really doesn't matter, since we don't have the $$ for me to buy the Ultimate Weight Solution right now, much less so the food companion. I guess I'm just researching for the "someday" when I can afford one, the other, or both.

Yes, I bought it. It's a wonderful tool for those who don't know about food combinations and what is the best time to eat which nutrient. Considering it's size, it must have something in there you would find useful. But nothing "ground-breaking" other than calories in/calories out, and perserverance.

You may want to get on your library's waiting list for the UWS. Or try a second hand store like GoodWill. Amazon may have some used copies for sale too.

Heather,

Try eBay (http://www.ebay.com) for the Utlimate Weight Solution. There are usually lots of copies for sale at pretty good prices.

I haven't found the Food Companion to be useful at all. It's mostly a quickey boiled down summary of UWS with pages and pages and pages of incomplete nutritional info that is not really spicific enough to even be helpful. I have yet to refrence it. After reading through I thought - is this IT? If you have any of the zillions of pocket sized boosk with nutritional info, you don't need the Food Companion. I wish I had flipped through it before I bought it.

If you would be willling to pay for postage I would be glad to give you both books. I read dr. phils and browsed the companion, but I've really done better with the South Beach plan. So those books are just sitting under my bed. Let me know.

I found most of that information on his web site. Had to dig around a bit but
came up with meal plans and all that for free.

Hi, I just want to add that the Food Guide is cheaper than the UWS as it is in paperback and lists for $7.99. I have both books but if I didn't get the first one, I would have bought this one if I couldn't afford the other one. It has a rapid start plan which I think the people in the "booty camp" show used. It is very low cal and you will lose weight if you follow it. It has menus for 21 days plus a maintenance plan with a 7 day menu. The UWS book didn't have very many menus in it. Anyway, that's the lowdown. But learning the seven keys is important and that is in the first book. However, as someone mentioned, you can get a lot of info from Dr. Phil's Website (and also if you've seen the WLC shows). Good luck to you.
