2cute2Bfat 01-16-2004, 12:28 AM Okay... I am glad to see that the oldies are still alive and among us.
And I am glad to see we have another newcomer......
WELCOME gmalil/Joyce !!!! There are several grandmas here. And there are lots of younguns too to help us stay young. ;) Glad to have you join our group.
PAM... {HUGS } I don't know whether to tell you to get mad at yourself or to tell you to love yourself. :dizzy: I do know that if you hang in there.. your program will come back. But it won't come back without a concious effort. A deliberate step of action. Pick on action step. Be it walking... throwing out all off program foods... reading Dr.Phils book. It is just important that you take that first step. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Andria.. did I congratulate you on your new job?? I think I did .. but just in case... CONGRATULATIONS !!!!
Lucky... thank you for the update on Kat. I hope you told her how much we miss her.
Mary... Enjoy your seminar this weekend. Don't forget we want photos of that new outfit. ;)
Paperdoll/PAT ... I enjoyed your tale of starting your car.
It sounded like something I would do. LOL
Barbg... Sorry about the lost post. I hate it when that happens. I have learned if I do the back arrow TWICE I sometimes still have my post. It is worth a try next time.
Did everyone hear about the lady who won $60million on the Powerball !!!!
I get soooo jealous !!!! I don't ever envy other people. I am a very appreciative person of what I have. When I was REALLY POOR and when not as poor ... I was always a person who appreciated whatever I had. BUT .. for some reason ... these lottery winners just break my heart that it is NOT ME. LOL
I would fly all of us to a great vacation location and pay for it all.
WHY CANT I WIN ???? !!!!!
thinthinker 01-16-2004, 02:44 AM Hello everyone! Had a few minutes and thought I would try and catch up with everyone. We ended up with 8 inches of snow by me yesterday. It started at 6:00 in the morning and finally quit about 8:00 at night. The guys got home safely from work but their 40 minute drive was 3 hours last night!
My food has not been anything sensational this week. Just need a cattle :moo: prod, or something, to get this body and mind in gear again. :(
I've been trying to catch up with some old friends for the past couple of weeks and my lunch jobs have allowed me to invite a couple out to eat. Why is it that everything we do is around eatting? It's like geez! But where else but a restaurant or a coffee shop do you meet to talk with someone? I know we've had this discussion before, but....how do you celebrate a birthday? Dinner and cake and ice cream. How do you celebrate a wedding? With a reception with a big dinner and dessert. How do you celebrate a holiday? With a big dinner and lots of pie. I mean, where has mankind gone wrong zillions of years ago to have this all be common practice. Even when you see old pictures of cavemen, what do you see? A bunch of loin-clothed men, sitting around a fire, sharing a huge drumstick!!! It's ingrained in us from way back. Time to change our outcomes, girls. We've got to learn how to be social WITHOUT the food (and/or learn to make THE RIGHT CHOICES when we are out and about with food) and remember that these occasions are about friends and family, .
Ok, that wasn't very profound, but hey, it's 1:40 AM now and I'm adding this to the top of the post after I've been here since Midnight doing replies. *groan* That's what I get for putting it off this long. :spin:
I stayed in all day yesterday. I got some accomplished, but I'm convinced it will take me another month to finish putting all my Christmas away. :p I hate putting it away, pure and simple. But then I hate the process of putting it all up too. I like when it's done though.
All day yesterday my throat felt halfway decent. Now today I've been out and about and it hurts like crazy again. I just don't get it. I refuse to go to the Dr. He had one chance to fix it and that's it!!! *stomps foot* Now I guess I'll just suffer because all they're going to tell me is "it's a virus". Hate it, hate it, hate it. I'm tired of being sick! (and I'm PMSing to boot, can you tell yet? )
2Cute: "Why can't I win????" You have to buy a ticket first! :o "Quit the thread"??? What are you thinking! Get your butt back in here and let's get this operation under construction already. You and me, let's do it!!!!
Duckie: Hope you get a chance to come back real soon and share your vacation with us.
Mary: 7 Pounds down is awesome! You go girl! *Hope you have a great time at the banquet. * Hope your hubby is feeling better with his mouth. (oops, that didn't sound good  ) But you know what I mean. * Are you still having trouble getting smilies to post? Let me know.
Ronda: Sure hope the counselling helps with your daughter. [hugs]
Jen: That was a great story about your hubby coming home. I liked that he found you boney! "Nobody around here knows it's my b-day." Well we're on top of that kind of stuff here, girlfriend! Hope you did something fun for your big day.
Sandy: "I sat here this am thinking 1 year ago I said I would be at least 50 lbs lighter, well guess that didn't happen." Don't worry about what "might have been". It's time to pull ourselves up and get on with what "will be". [hugs] * BTW, is it really -30 degrees up by you. OMG! * By "new smilies" did you mean the clowns? They were only brought on one day to celebrate one of the moderator's birthday (not mine).
Pat/paperdoll: Welcome to our humble little side of the boards. We're glad to have you join us. :) Don't feel as if you "should" do replies. You'll get a handle on it after awhile. I keep 3x5 cards on everyone to try and keep all the girls straight in my head. The mind is a terrible thing to waste, ya know??? Did I miss why you were typing one-handed? Or do you just enlist the "hunt and peck method"?
Michelle: That is really the pitts about your insurance, well moreso about the company and how they gave you no notice. I swear, insurance companies rule the world. Every bill that gets submitted, it seems like I have to call and follow-up on. That's just not right. Honey's insurance coverage when down, the deductible and his contribution both went up. It's awful.
Joanne/homebound: Sorry to hear of your holiday gain, but since a 7 pound gain is the nation's average, consider yourself doing well. You'll have it off in no time. Just pay attention. ;) * Sorry to hear about your son moving out. Sounds like at least he's keeping in touch. Maybe moving out will help him grow up. It's too bad that obviously wherever he is is not charging him to live there or he'd have to go out and get a job.
BarbPA: Glad your dad is doing decent. He's going through alot and I'm sure that you being there with your folks is a real comfort. You all will continue to be in my prayers. [hugs]
Syn: Hope your WI (not Wisconsin) goes well this morning. Have you been back on track???
Terri: You are one lucky woman that your hubby cooks. Mine can, but does he??? NO, not even on the grill! :( * I liked your Dr. Philism "behave yourself out of the situation." That truly is the only way to make any headway, isn't it?
Barbg: Hope the closing on your building went well. You've sure been through the mill. Hope this works out well.
Andria: CONGRATS on the new job! That was quick and pretty painless. I wish all job searches could be that easy! * I saw what you said about the BMI. Did you know that they have a BMI calculator on the Discovery Channel Website? You just enter height and weight. I'm not sure how accurate that way is, but I did it anyway. * That is so awesome about your daughter reading. [hugs] It's all that love and care you put into her life! * #1 Son has taught himself QuikBooks. It's the program he uses to keep the books on his computer repair business. He says it's pretty easy so I know you'll have it down in no time.
Tina: 6 Pounds?!?! OMG, girl! You're doing GREAT!!! * Hope your car is back up and running so you don't have to run so much.
Susie: Glad you had a nice vacation. Also glad to hear your hubby is going to start on plan with you. That will really help.
Pam: :drill: STOP IT!!! There, is that better??? ;) * I like the "act as if". That is profound. If we all did more 'acting as if' I think we'd all be alot closer to our goals.
Chequitagirl: Welcome to you too. We're always glad when newbies stop by and we're even more excited when they stick around and keep coming back. Tell us a little about yourself.
Joyce: Nice to meet you too. Like I've said to the others, keep on posting so we can get to know you. How soon before your hubby retires and you move. Is family in Idaho?
Lucky: Thanks for keeping us updated on Kat, but what about that party last Friday night. It must have been pretty good, cuz you're keeping pretty tight-lipped about it! :tape:
Well, girls, I think I'm caught up. If I missed you, I'm soooo sorry, but my brain is mush about now. I think I'll go up and grab some Nyquil and hit the hay. Hope you all have a great day. Love  ya bunches!
Ok, I came back (dedicated or stupid, I'm not sure which :dunno: ) But I have to ask where are the following people??? (in no particular order)
Steph, Joe Anne, Judy and we know where Kat is. Girls, we miss you. Get back in here and at least let us know you're ok.
Jehari 01-16-2004, 04:04 AM Morning ladies!
Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes. My kids found out it was my birthday when they got home cuz I had a few birthday cards in the mail from friends back home. My 4 year old wanted to know where were the balloons and party hats LOL. They talked me into making a birthday cake. I immediately cut the cake in half and gave half to a neighbor. Then we each had a piece. I didn't get to eat much before it made me sick. Then last night there was still a piece of leftover cake and I was picking at it and picking at it until I finally just had to throw it away. Then I had to go to the fridge and throw away the left over frosting cuz I knew my fingers we be in it next. The old habits die hard don't they? That's one thing the surgery can't fix is my mental fixation on food.
Speaking of which, I'm am really struggling. I just can't seem to get back on the wagon here. Let's face it. I hate meat, cheese and eggs and I LOVE pasta and bread. I know I'm eating to many carbs, which is making me hungrier, which is making me graze on more carbs. I'm eating more than I think I should be able to. I'm only 6 months out from surgery, and not only have I stopped losing already, I've gained a couple of pounds. I am scared to death. I can't fathom the idea of having gone through the pain and expense of this surgery to change my life just to fail 6 months out. It all comes down to will power in the end, no matter what. So here's what I'm going to do, or try to make myself do anyway. I've read on a WLS web site that you can "reset" your pouch by going back to liquids for a while to allow the pouch to shrink and to shut off the appetite. I'm going to have nothing but the liquid protien, water, and my vitamins for at least a few days. Then, as I add food back to my diet, I'm also going to add in exercise. So that's the plan anyway. Wish me luck. This is going to be soooo hard. Just goes to show that there really is no quick fix and no "cure" for obesity.
I think I'll probably be back quite a bit to keep myself out of the kitchen, so I might even actually get around to individual replies for a change LOL.
I'll talk at ya all later,
Jen
2cute2Bfat 01-16-2004, 06:30 AM Good morning ladies. Procrastination is a POWERFUL force. I have been procrasitinating on several things as of late (been depressed) and tonight I made the DECISION to get it done !!!! Why tonight you ask ???? Because I have to make FINAL DECISIONS today!!!! I have to make final decisions about the wedding, the reception, and a Fling I am planning.
Then you add in that I want the best prices... so I stayed on the computer printing out the cheapest prices so I have some bargaining leverage. :s:
PLUS... I had to find all the paperwork I already had ... but who knows where ???
Well.. I found it all... but it took me all night. I have not been to bed yet. :o
And I have to leave early in the morning to go sign contracts and such. :dizzy:
Anyway... enough about me....
JEN... You will get back on track. Do not fear ... (my heart goes out to you) you WILL get it all back together. GET ALL JUNK FOOD OUT OF THE HOUSE. Like Dr. Phil says.. if it is not there... you can't eat it. :) You did great giving away half the cake.. and you did finally throw away what was left. PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK !!! Jump for JOY !!! As they say... it is all in the way you look at it...
Is you cup half empty :halfempty: or is your cup half full :halffull: ???
ATTITUDE !!!! The Attitude of Gratitude !!! Be grateful for throwing it away.. be grateful for giving it away. Be grateful for the opportunity to return back to your healthy eating again. And if you don't "feel" it yet .. then "act as if
until you do. ;)
Thin... All of the above goes for YOU AND ME too. :drill:
AS far as winning the lottery... we don't even have them in my home state. :(
I used to buy them when I went to Missouri to visit my parents. I haven't been back since the funeral. Oh wait.. yes I did go back to decorate their graves for Christmas... I almost forgot. But .. I did forget to buy a lottery ticket. Grrr I want to WIN !!! LOL
Okay.. going to TRY to catch a few zzzzzz before I head out today. Bye
Jehari 01-16-2004, 06:44 AM Whew! That was a close one! I am litterally waging war with myself here!
I had my protein drink this morning, and after about an hour, I found myself wanting to eat so I went back to bed for an hour and a half. I just got back up and found myself in the kitchen boiling water to make noodles. I sat there and had an actual verbal argument with myself about making the noodles!! :o It was like two different people talking! I went and stepped on the scale, came back into the kitchen, turned off the stove, and made another protein drink. So here I sit not eating. I just wanted to pop in here instead of going to the kitchen. As soon as I'm done, I have to shower and go do some volunteer stuff at my daughter's school so that'll keep me out of the kitchen for a while.
This truly is all in my head. I've got to defeat it.
Thanks for the pep talk 2Cute. It was like finding a "sign" when I needed it.
Talk at ya later,
Jen
Terri in MO 01-16-2004, 08:26 AM Good morning ladies,
I'm sitting here on the bed trying to work up some enthusiasm for going to work. Getting dressed would be a good start.
I had a good meeting with my boss yesterday (she is truly the female version of Dr. Jeckell/Mr. Hyde). She dumped a bunch of work and responsibility on me so that probably explains why she was being nice. It really is a stressful situation because she treats some of my peers very badly and they hate her. Usually one of us wears the halo while the others are crap on her shoes. The halo gets passed around when she needs something from us. The men can't handle it while I do my best to shrug it off and hang on to the belief that I cannot control her behavior; only my reaction. But the guys like to talk about it and what a B she is. However, they don't get it that the more they act like she's gotten to them, the more she does it to them. Sometimes, it makes for a long day.
I confess, no exercise this morning. But I did great yesterday. I've had the best two weeks that I've had in a long time and the :censored: scale isn't moving. Its really hard to accept that you work so damn hard and TOM kicks you in the face. I'll be patient and keep working but I sure would like to see some affirmation of my work. Enough whining!
Get up! Get up and shake your napkin! Get up! Get up! That's a little song we sang in the Italian restaurant in NYC with 60+ people singing at the top of their lungs. Occassionally, that gets stuck in my head. Its hard to feel down and out when that's going through your head.
Have a great Friday!
Grannie39074 01-16-2004, 09:03 AM Just a quick post before I head off to work for a few hours the on to the Board dinner and Seminar. I'll catch all of you tomorrow night.
katrinabgood 01-16-2004, 09:30 AM Wow...I missed all of you! Our computer had been ravaged by some virus or weird system that took over and gobbled everything up...no internet connection!!! :yikes: Talk about withdrawl! I missed you all and wondered everyday how you were all doing. I must say, I'm much better at sticking to my diet and remaining motivated when I'm in touch here. I was planning on going to the library to get my 3fc "fix" but then I got sick...I've been home all week with laryngitis and a terrible cold. :p Much better now...still not much of a voice, but I feel good. I haven't been able to see Dad because of the cold, but he's home and doing well. He's still very weak and SO frail...but his spirit is good. My mom has been a rock. I need to get down there and give her a break...maybe just some time to herself, shopping or whatever. She won't take it though. Stubborn. A family trait.
HEY!! It's FREEZING here! Who sent this bogus, frigid weather??? Was it you, Lucky? It's like 2 degrees this morning. I just heard dh tell my son there's no school today...WHAT IS UP WITH THAT? Is it too cold or something? Back in my day they did not cancel school on account of extreme cold. School was cancelled yesterday because of the snow...do you suppose they said, "what the heck, they're off Monday anyway, why come in for one day?" Oh...apparently a pipe burst or something. ahh, what do I care? Now I can go to sleep. Well, after I'm done here.
I tried to skim over the past 4 threads before I posted, but I barely got through 470 and had to pop in. I'm going back to read now. See you all later.
LuckyLadyBug 01-16-2004, 10:43 AM Pat: I am directly south of you. I am about 30 miles from the South Dakota border where Minnesota does that hump thing!!!
chequitagirl 01-16-2004, 11:24 AM well thinthinker as of nov. 22, 2003 i found out i have type 2 diabetes and weigh 356lbs. if went home and cried all day and then decided to do something about it. i mean it is nobody's fault except my own. i knew my weight was at its highest but until it started affecting my health and i saw it on the scales i was just a happy go lucky fat chick. i mean my husband is gorgeous and loves me, so what if i was fat. that night i decided that it was time for a change and as of jan. 8, 2004 i have lost 22lbs. my whole life has changed. i have 3 daughters, 2 of whom are still at home and overweight. i didn't want them to have to go through what i have so i did some house cleaning or i should say some kitchen cleaning. little debbie doesn't live at our house anymore. my 15 yr old, brittnie, said the other day that everything in our kitchen was either fat free or sugar free, but she can't complain, because of this her pants are falling off, and she is losing lbs. left and right and she isn't necessarily cutting back she is just changing what she eats. most of my friends don't have weight problems so i really was excited about finding this site. all the stories are so inspiring. my daughters keep one of our computers tied up at night and mine is on the fritz so the only time i get online is mainly during the day at work, but mine will be repaired soon and then i'll be on some at night, not quite as late as some of you chicks. i'm a little boring and go to bed fairly early, but i check as early in the morning as i can. hope i haven't bored you to tears. more late.
thinthinker 01-16-2004, 12:05 PM Morning, ladies! I'm here doing reports from the jobs that I did yesterday. Ya know, if it wasn't for the reports, I might actually like the job! I'm just teasing. I really do love my job. Where else can you work and eat and see movies for free. Do half of your Christmas shopping for free, etc. I couldn't find anything MORE flexible and certainly not without a boss hounding you all the time. Some of you in employment hell might understand. :o
Not much new in my life since I talked with you last. I finally hit the mattress at about 3:00 AM. I was back up at 8:45 this morning. I'm sitting here with color on my hair for the last hour and a half. I'm guessing that maybe one day all of my hair will fall out from the way I treat it. :(
Katrina: So good to see you back, honey. Yes, we surely did miss you! Computer problems are just the pitts. So is the laryngitis for that matter. My voice still isn't back to normal and if I don't ditch this sore throat soon, I'm gonna scream!
Chequitagirl: My doctor put me on glucophage last February because I was boarderline with sugar. It seems to keep the numbers within normal and bad me, I haven't changed any of my eatting habits. If I did, I probably wouldn't have to take the medication at all. * Sounds like your daughter is reaping some great benefits from your new healthy way. That's great. My guys do well when they eat like I do too, well, when I'm eatting like I should, I should say. I have two sons, 22 and 24. They both still live at home (it's cheaper and mom cooks and does the laundry, ya know? :o )
Lucky: There ya go, not mentioning that party again.
Mary: Have fun at the dinner.
Terri: I think I was referring to you when I mentioned 'employment hell'. Geez, your boss sounds like a real tyrant.
Jen: Oh honey, my heart goes out to you. I guess it does prove that no matter what method you choose, weighloss efforts are a B!^(H. No matter what, it's what goes in that is the bottom line. Come here often and we'll try and hold your hand through this. I've found that it's hard to type and eat too, so keep on typing. [hugs]
2cute: You sound too busy! My goodness, time for some "me time" for you too, honey. Snap out of your funk and do something good for yourself.
Well, girls, I think I'll go rinse this color out of my hair before my hair falls out. Do you guys remember that I Love Lucy episode where (dang, I don't remember if Lucy was getting the perm or she was giving one, but anyway) someone was getting a perm and the hair was falling out, rollers and all? I have nightmares about that when I leave the color on this long. See you all later. Have a great day!!!
gmalil 01-16-2004, 01:40 PM Just had my first WI.....I'm down an even 5 pounds!! :dancer: {Of course I could paper a small wall with all my 5 pound bookmarks that I have recieved thru the years}, I plan for this to be the last !!! Only better awards from here on !!
DH retires in 5 weeks, then we start the process of finding our new place and selling this one, hope to have it on the market by April 1 :dizzy: Lots to do!
Just a brief bio...I'm a retired teacher for Special Ed adults, raised my 4 kids and 3 granddaughters, 2 of them are now in the USAF! I'm an avid doll collector, have over 2000, am going to attempt to sell half of them in the next cupla months. enjoy all kinds of crafts. I'll do the bio page later, I'm going to go treat myself to a pedicure!! get these feet ready for some serious walking!
This is such an active supportive group, I am anxious to get to know all of you better real soon!
chequitagirl 01-16-2004, 01:45 PM cograts gmalil 5lbs is a great new start. you deserve a pedicure.
paperdoll 01-16-2004, 05:47 PM hi hope everyone is having a sunny day we are but it is cold thin- your post on food was right on! i type one handed due ro a tremor in my right hand, i will tell more later. jen- you can do it!!one day at a time. gmalil- congrats 5 lbs. is WONDERFUL. LUCKY LADY BOG I AM 18 MILES FROM F.F. YOU MUST BE CLOSE TO THE CASINO ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES. PAT
katrinabgood 01-16-2004, 06:02 PM I am STILL not caught up on reading all that I missed! One thing is for sure...I got a LOT more done around here with no computer to lure me away!
I can't stay but I wanted to say, Happy Belated Birthday, Thin and Jen! :hb:
A few replies, totally off the top of my head...and then I have to get ready to go out with my hubby! (this is big...we're rarely off the same days!)

Okay, I REALLY have to go now...later, dudes!
2cute2Bfat 01-16-2004, 07:33 PM HI guys !!!
KAT !!!!! Welcome HOME !!!!!
I missed you soooo much !!!! Don't ever let that computer break down again.
I wish I had time to reply ....but my grandbabies are here so I only have time to catch up my reading. I will try to come back tonight when they go to bed. They are spending the night with me. :D
LuckyLadyBug 01-16-2004, 08:00 PM 2Cute: WHAT do you mean oldies – who are you calling old?
Thin: Without food – who would show up at birthday or wedding? Hah I was thinking about your friends/meet to eat and the thought I have is that it is a comfort thing. It is comforting to share food with someone you like. Also, without food what would happen during those lulls in the conversation??? Haha
I haven’t posted about the birthday party because it was a bore as far as men go. I enjoyed seeing some of my cousins – 17 showed up and an uncle and two aunts. BUT I didn’t get any sleep – they all talk too much. It was like being Thin/2Cute – I was up for over 24 hours straight. It has taken me all week to recover.
Jen: Keep remembering your piggyback ride!!!! Put before and after pics on the frig. A picture of your hubby – anything to stop and get you to argue with yourself.
The noodle story sounded like eating from boredom. I know I do that even though I have tons of things to do. Like you said this is in our heads and it’s hard to fix. I do know when I am engrossed in something I enjoy doing I never think of eating. I can go a whole day without thinking of food. I just have to get engrossed more often!!!! A LOT more often.
I read this in Oprah's mag and it hit the nail on the head for me and my "lack of weight loss". What you want has to be stronger than what you have.
Do any of you do pilates? They are hard when you don’t have any stomach muscles.
ageoldie 01-16-2004, 09:51 PM Well the stress from the closing is still not over. Today I went to the bank and got a cashiers check to put in our payroll account to replace the money we moved to cover the down payment for the loan. When I got back to the office I discovered that it wasn't showing in my account, so I went back to the bank. They said even though it was a cashiers check that is supposed to be the same as money, THEY considered it a check and it wouldn't appear until midnight :yikes: I had 10 men back there waiting on their payroll checks!!! After demanding to speak to a supervisor, and endless pleading :blah: :blah: :blah: and talking she agreed to manually post the check. Thank goodness, Anyway I was so upset when I left I almost lost control of my car, and looked up and there was a CiCi's Pizza. Since I need to calm myself down, I pulled in and ate the buffet :hun: :stars: :hun: So now I've been really miserable all afternoon.
I did have my BMI measured this morning, but it will be Monday or Tuesday before I get the reprots. It was really a hard procedure. The put me in a tank of water with this scale thingy on the bottom and had a scuba like bag that I had to breath in so the could measure the amount of air in my lungs, and then I had to pull myself completly underwater and stay that way until the measuring finished. I had to do that for a total of three times. I was exausted when it was over, and it only took about 30 minutes.
Jen, I know how hard your struggle is, but keep on struggling. You might want to stop in every now and then on the WLS thread here at 3FC. There's a great group of women there that have been through it, and me who prods ole Alvin along.
Thin, I think I'll try that card file thing and see if it helps me keep everyone straight.
To all the grandmothers here, I am having my 6y/o grandson over Saturday night. He's the only one I have and although he also lives here in Dallas, it's the other side of town, and his parents work nights so we don't get to see him as much as I'd like to.
Kat & BarbPA, I'm still keeping your dad's in my prayers, glad they seem to be doing okay.
2cute and Pam, Hang in there, I'm in the same boat and it's beginning to fill up with water, but I'm not going to let it sink.
Everyone else, have a great weekend.
2cute2Bfat 01-17-2004, 01:44 AM I'm Back !!!! :D
My grandkids did not get to spend the night. They have been sick so mommy wanted them home in case they threw up again. I did not argue.
I love them... but ... I don't want them when they are sick... and they want mommy then too.
I keep forgeting to tell everyone... my food is getting better. :)
I am following my own advice. lol
I am being grateful for every little mini victory. I am focusing on the POSITVE and letting the negative disappear out of my life.
I am replacing positive thinking for the old unuseful negative.
It is TRUE... if you focus on the negative... the negative will GROW.
If you focus on the POSITIVE ... the positive will GROW.
Trust me... I know how hard it can be to be positive when you are drowning in hopelessness.... BUT !!!! You CAN DO IT !!!!
Lucky... I would NEVER imply that you are OLD... but you are an Oldie.
sometimes I want to reregister and come here as a newbie so noone would have to know how long I have been around. :o LOL As Popeye used to say... "I am who I am and that's all that I am".
Well we made all the final arrangements for the wedding reception. $$$
I don't know if it is worth it or not. LOL I barely remember my own wedding at all. I sure hope my daughter remembers hers. And the good memories.. not the disagreements we got into making all the decisions. LOL
Barb.g ....I have written and re-written my reply to you.
I don't whether to HUG you or :drill: you.
Please remember... CiCi's is not an option anymore when you are stressed.
It doesn't solve anything... and causes you MORE stress from overeating.
Your BMI event sounded very exhausting. I don't think I could hold myself underwater without LOTS of WEIGHTS attached to me... I FLOAT !!! I have so much fat... I can't drown myself. LOL
Pat... My husband LOVES casinos. We have a couple here. One is only a couple of miles from our home. My husband is probably known by his first name there.
Chequitagirl... My husband is also type2 diabetic. When he follows a low carb diet he has to reduce the amount of medication he takes. Exercise really helps too. I know it is hard to do... but it REALLY HELPS.
Joyce... I assume we can consider ourselves "friends" and call you Joyce... or do you want to be called Lillie.?? I have a small doll collection. Started off just collecting a few dolls I had as a girl. Then I collected a few I just liked. Then I got some of my moms from when she was a child when she died. I don't have anything like 2,000 more like 20. LOL
Mary... I am still wanting to see photos of your outfit. Hope DH teeth are working well for him. Tell us all about your seminar.
Kat... COLD !!! That about sums up the weather in the Northwest lately. Please keep it up there with you. We are having record breaking warm here. :) It did start raining here today.. and they say we may have some flooding before it is over on Sunday. I sure hope not.
I sure am glad you are back with us.
Jen... I have to thank you!!! You sharing your struggles has HELPED ME.
When I start to go check out the cupboards... I think of you .. and I think to myself... If JEN is giving up the excess food... SO CAN I !!
I cannot tell you how many times it has helped me to NOT EAT. THANK YOU
Even if I had the surgery... I still have to CHANGE MY EATING HABITS.
I STILL HAVE TO PUT MY MIND OVER MATTER.
Thank you , thank you , thank you.
Gee... I have sooo many more to reply to... but I am tired of talking. LOL
My throat is sore and scratchy and I think I may just stop and get some rest.
I love everyone I did not get to... I really am just tired of talking.
I am feeling emotionally better... and I am sure a lot of it has to do with the fact that my food is better.... and I am getting a lot done that I have procrastinated on for sooo long. It has lifted a weight off of my shoulders.
Kat... I know what you mean about getting so much more done around the house when you are forced off the computer... BUT ... I am sure you got all caught up and can now spend LOTS of time here with us. :)
Good night ladies... Love ya !!!
gmalil 01-17-2004, 02:09 AM 2 Cute, , Joyce is just fine! I'm just one of the chicks, and no one calls me Lil except my DH and a few friends.
You are very WISE in your thinking about positive vs negative!
Also about waiting til the kids are not throwing up to keep them! I love my grandkids too, but they are better off at home when they are sick! :^:
We are helping a daughter move to another house tomorrrow, so will have some time with 11 yr old Katie and 14 yr old Jake. I'm sure they are very excited about a new house.
We went out for mexican dinner, I think I did well in choosing a 'small' tostado rather than the Grande size or a combo plate. I'm finding that I am more quickly satisfied with smaller portions. :hungry: I'm very thankful for that!!
Best get to bed and rest up for tomorrow!
thinthinker 01-17-2004, 02:09 AM Hi ladies! Again it's almost 1:00 AM and I'm sitting here. I had to wait up for a phone call. "The Baby" took his new car and drove to Buffalo, NY tonight after work. His fraternity brother/roommate for the past 5 years lives there and it is his birthday this weekend so "the baby" just HAD to go and wish him a happy birthday! (read show off his new car! ) He didn't get to the bridge at Port Huron until almost 8:00 and it's a 3.5 hour drive after that through Canada. Then he crosses the bridge from the Niagara Falls area to Buffalo, NY. He said the roads were clear, but now that he's back in the US it's snowing. Buffalo is terrible for snowfall, so I hope he'll be fine. Boy, doesn't matter how old they get, you're still "mom"! :o
We had dinner out tonight and I chose well, having grilled chicken, a baked potato and a salad. I ate one piece of chicken and 1/2 the baked potato. Oops, did I forget to mention the bloomin' onion???
I'm so excited, with any luck I'll be getting to meet a fellow chickie on Monday. I'll let you all guess who that might be. ;)
We're supposed to get more snow tomorrow, like 8 inches isn't enough already. Another 4 is supposed to be on the way. I figure it's better than the ice storm they originally predicted. And of course, the prediction is liable to change 4 more times before morning!
Joyce/gmalil: Congrats on your 5 pounds, that's wonderful! * WOW, your life will be changing dramatically in the next few months. Do you guys have some family in Idaho that makes you want to re-locate there?
Chequitagirl: You didn't say much when you dropped by. How was your day?
Pat/paperdoll: Sorry about the tremor. That must make life a little challenging. Hope you had a great day!
Katrina: Ok, so where'd ya go, what'd ya do?? Did you and hubby have a nice date????
Lucky: "without food what would happen during those lulls in the conversation" I'm so glad you explained why there is food at celebrations. I really hadn't considered that aspect of it. Sorry the party wasn't promising.
Barbg: I thought the whole purpose of a certified check was so that it was just like cash? I don't get it. Glad you got it straightened out though. * Your BMI measuring sounds like it was quite an ordeal. At Curves all I had to do was grab this thing and squeeze. At the Women's Expo, all you had to do was step on a special scale.
2cute: Too bad your grandkids are not feeling well. I know you love to have them, but maybe you'll get some much needed down time since they had to go home. *Glad all your wedding plans are together now. That will be a load off your mind.
Ok, I think I'm caught up again. It seems like the last thread just drug on one post at a time and this one is filling up fast. Keeps me hopping. Anyway, wanted to mention to you all: Oldies and Newbies, if you haven't posted your bio (or you did it before the crash) please stop in and fill one out. You're not obligated, of course. Nor are you obligated to answer all of the questions if you don't want to. All of the other specialty threads are up and running again too. You are all welcome to post stuff on them. Terri has posted a couple of good articles on the Article Thread. There are some good recipes on our Recipe Thread. We need some of those pics posted again...(I won't mention any names, Barb!) And Terri too from NY.
I'm hitting the bed. See you all later. Love  ya bunches.
katrinabgood 01-17-2004, 12:28 PM :?: I just lost my post...going to kick the wall now...no time to re-create... &^$#%@&%^
see you later!
2cute2Bfat 01-17-2004, 01:16 PM Rise and shine ladies !!!! It is SIT UP SATURDAY !!!
It is time to get yourselves up and going.
It is time to do ONE thing above and beyond your normal activites. Walk the dog, park farther away from the door, while taking your normal walk... step up the speed for a block or two. Maybe take that exercise video you bought out of the wrapper.
TODAY IS THE DAY !!!! The day to make a change for the new and improved you.
MichelleK 01-17-2004, 01:35 PM Just a quickie, I have to clean this pig sty today and finish laundry! Don't I always say that? Dang...never ends!
Anyway, I have this sorta recipe for honey mustard dressing. You mix 1/2 cup of that plain no fat yogurt, 1 T. dijon mustard and 1 T. honey. The whole thing is only 2 points and I don't see how anyone could eat THAT much dressing on their salad! You might want to add another tablespoon of honey to suit your taste but be sure to add the extra point. I mix it up and leave it in the fridge and mark off 2 points from my flex points and use it during the week. That way no matter how much I use I have already counted the points. If you like poppy seeds you can add some in there too!
Andrew and I went to the local shopping center and went in Eckerd drugs and got his huggies pull ups for $7.99 a pk. They limit you to 2 pks. Plus I had 2 coupons for $2 off of the huggies pull ups so I got them for $5.99 each. I love a deal like that. THey are usually 9.99 on sale. Then we went into D.E. Jones, its a discount dollar type store. Most of their stuff is like .88 each but then they have other stuff like Nike mens socks for $3.99 a 6 pk, and mens flannel shirts for $4.00 or $1.99 when they get low and want to get rid of the rest of them. Well I had to get Andrew more knit hats because we tend to lose them between school and daycare and daddy steals them once in a while too! They are only .88 each. Then we went to the dollar store next door and I got equal, cremora for my coffee at work so I can count the points. I have a heavy hand when it comes to half and half cause I love the stuff. And I bought a can of imitation crab and a can of imiation lobster. Not the greatest taste but very point friendly. Ok so to bore you even further....we went next door to WalMart and I got my water there. I love their flavored waters for only .58 a bottle. The white grape tastes just like grape soda. I like the regular peach one and the black cherry. Well I hate this particular walmart now because they had 3 lanes open with cashiers and the rest were those stupid self serve things. The ones that always make you take your thing out of the bag because it messed up. The thing the bags are on is a scale and it weighs your merchandise to make sure you scanned it before you put it in the bag. The cashier lines were a mile long! As I left I told them they need more REAL cashiers!
I did discover something weight related this week. I took a bag of those baby carrots to work and when I wanted to EAT I munched on them and they really satisfied my need to eat something fattening! I like to crunch when I eat!!
Thin did your son make it to NY ok? I didn't realize you were that close to NY. I drive about 4 hours to Rhode Island when I go. My sister lived in upstate NY, in Rome NY when her husband was in the airforce. It snowed up there every day whether it was flurries or a big snow fall they always had some type of snow.
Well I don't think I welcomed the Newbies on the block! Welcome and make yourself right at home! This is the best group you will ever find!
OK this wasn't as quick as I thought it would be. I'll be back. Just have to make it look like I did something today before John gets home from work!
TTFN Michelle
Jehari 01-17-2004, 03:02 PM Well here I am again. I haven't been a perfect angel  by any means, by food has been better. I've stopped grazing. However, I took my daughter to a birthday party today and at first I did really good. I didn't eat any of the pizza. We they handed out cake and ice cream, I declined. My son didn't finish his piece of cake, and not only did I finish his cake, I added a scoop of ice cream to it. AAUUUGGGHH. Otherwise, I had my protein shake for breakfast, most of a turkey sandwich for dinner, and now I'm munching a little popcorn. So I could be doing better, but on the other hand, it could be way worse. Progress, not perfection right? Well, I just hope I make some progress with the scale this week or I'll really start to get discouraged. :(
I apologize for being so bad about individual replies. I hope that someday I'll actually get around to doing them. :^:
Anyhoo, I'll talk at ya all later,
Jen
LuckyLadyBug 01-17-2004, 03:49 PM Michelle, I LOVE Wal-Mart Black Cherry water - it's all I drink. I should really buy stock in that place.
MichelleK 01-17-2004, 06:46 PM Lucky I love the white grape cause I love grape soda! But black cherry is right up there with the grape!!
2cute2Bfat 01-17-2004, 07:41 PM 2cute is doing the happy dance.
My food is still getting better. :D
I am very bad about justifing .."just this once.. afterall ... I am NEVER going to eat it again"
Well today... I did NOT justify... I just said NO !!!!
I was driving by Krispy Kreme and their HOT sign was lit.
I am not normally a donut eater. But I am a "I better eat it now because I won't be able to have it ever again " person.
Well ... not today. I said "NO ... Jen is saying no, Terri is saying no, all of the successful losers are saying NO. I CAN TOO !!! And I did !!!
Okay... nothing else to share. Ran a bunch of errands today, went to a Bridal Fair, and did a couple of refunds. I was going to go to the movies and see "Along Came Polly" but ran out of time. Then DH said he would go with me tonight... but it is getting really cold here so I may just wait and see a matinee Sunday.
Oh yeah... one more good news. I came home and DH had mopped my kitchen floor and vacumned the entire house for me. What a sweetheart.
katrinabgood 01-17-2004, 08:19 PM YUCK! Too crowded, too many cranky people, and I, personally, would have preferred an automatic checkout instead of the extremely S*L*O*W cashiers, of which there were many! The lines were incredible.
We went to see Mom and Dad and Mom dispatched me to the big W for, of all things, laxatives, stool softeners, fiber-con and prune juice!...Apparently the patient is experiencing some...er...difficulties, shall we say? So there I was, on the interminably long line with my arms full of poop inducing agents. Yep, I'm cool.
Just popping in to say Hi, I'm off again...I swear someday I'll find time to post again!
BarbPA 01-17-2004, 08:21 PM Hi Ladies!
I am just stopping in to let you know that I am back home safe, sound and exhausted. My dad is doing very well and may be able to go home tomorrow. He will obviously have to take it easy for quite a while and we are still waiting on the pathology results. My mom seems to be handling things well so I felt it was ok to leave today.
I am so relived to be back home and am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.
No replies for me right now....just sending love  and goodvibes :goodvibes: to all of you. Welcome to the new faces - I look forward to getting to know you all.
I'll post more tomorrow after a good night's sleep.
:)Barb
Grannie39074 01-17-2004, 09:29 PM I'm home things went well but I am so tired. Didn't get a pic yet. I'll dress and have DH make one. food was soso
qsilver 01-17-2004, 10:19 PM Hey everyone :)
Wrote a big message and just lost it because our router went down and I didn't notice. Grrr... You know how that works, the one time you don't do a copy in weeks. Anyway, it was a kind of whiny post and you probably didn't need to read it as much as I needed to write it. In other words, I'm getting over myself.
My knee has been giving me problems and I'm hardly able to walk at all right now. I miss the boost! And I think I must be PMS'ing from the way I'm feeling right now. Poor DH. He is going to believe soon that he can't do anything right. He walks in the room and my disposition shifts to nasty immediately. :(
I'm going to go try and do something constructive to help me get out of this mood.
Andria
