Good Monday Morning Everyone!

It's another glorious morning in paradise. Getting ready to take Michael to school then go for my walk and then I'm off to Broward with Sharon for the day, then Lauren is preforming at the Youth Fair tonight (drama) so I may not be able to check in til late tonight.

Hope you all had a wonderful SB weekend. Nothing eventful for me, just the usual.

Thanks for those of you who responded to my e-mail about the new boards. I'd like to start these two boards next week, when we start the new boards for April. ALSO, what do you think about the idea of putting the birthdays of the month in as well somewhere at the beginning of the month. COMMENTS, PLEASE!

Another subject that was briefly touched upon a few weeks ago, that I'd like to look at a bit more is how we can possibly support the 3FC's site. I finally got around to reading Suzanne's message of how it costs them $1,000 a month to maintain this website and funds are very low because advertising is sparse. It's totally voluntary, but they'd be really appreciative for a monetary donation, whatever they may be. I know personally, I can't afford to give much, but I do plan on sending something to her. I just can't imagine what I would do if they planned to pull the plug on this site. I will be making a small donation IN HONOR OF THE GALS ON THE SB BOARD! If anyone else is interested, you can send a donation to:

Suzanne Barnett, 3 Fat Chicks on a Diet! PO Box 5063 Johnson City TN 37604

I'd really love to have her realize that not only are we very supportive to each other, but of the site as well, so if you are able to do so, please, if you are able to make a contribution, no matter how small, please do, and make sure you mention it's from the SB board!:)

IT's MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY and here's my contribution:

WHAT HAVE YOU DECIDED?

A decision is more than a wish. When you decide to get something done, it will get done. When you truly decide, it's more than just a vague intention. It's more than saying you're going to do it. It's more than hoping to get it done someday. It is a commitment that you make to yourself. When you truly decide, it will happen.

What have you decided to do? Look around you. Look at your life. Look at the person you've become. Look at what you've accomplished and you'll see exactly what you've decided to do.

What will you decide to do now? You have the ability to achieve whatever you decide to achieve, to become the person you decide to become, to live the life you decide to live.

Yet ability alone will not get you there. All the resources in the world, by themselves, will not get you there. Opportunity alone will not get you there. You must decide to get yourself there. Then it will happen.

-- Ralph Marston

It's interesting to see last weeks poll and how people stay on plan. What do you all think of the polling results?

QUILTER sent me the 3 pics from our little get-together, finally, they came through. I will post one each time I post: ) The one below shows, from left to right: QUILTER, DEBELLI, BIGO, SHARON & ANN-Ann is Narda's friend who came along, and Sharon, you all know if my friend:) I'll post the other 2 later on today.

Well gals, I've gotta walk, literally. I will check in with you all later this evening. Have a wonderful day and a fabulous week.

PLEASE REMEMBER, TOMORROW IS TUESDAY TIPS DAY so if you have any great tips you'd like to share with the board that will be useful for us in following this WOE, please try to post them tomorrow.

BEE125's post was on the wrong board and I wanted to get it over to the correct one, so I moved it here-hope you don't mind BEE!!!!

Hi Im New

Hi all Im new here and from New Zealand.

Im not new to cutting sugar as keeping my consumption under control after that 1st bite has been a big problem for as long as I can remember.

Ive had past stints at abstaining for as long as 6 months but then manage to kid myself Im cured and as soon as I think I can have a casual relationship with sugar Im done for !!

I want to lose weight and joined WW (for the 3rd time ) last October. Then since no foods are "banned" I tried to eat a little of everything, but I just CANT when it comes to refined food. It has to be all or nothing I accept that now.

You guys are all on the road to where i want to go so Im jumping aboard

I havnt had anything with sugar or flour for 5 days.
I was 160lb 5 days ago and 170lb last October.
Everything I "desire" to eat has now been taken away (or at least thats the way it seems).
About twice a day (or more) Im get ting hit big time (just about shaking)by cravings to open that cookie tin.
I can smell one from 10 feet away.

From what Ive been reading (I dont have the book as yet) you do eat flour? Must be Stone ground whole meal? Is that right?

But you dont eat potatoes???

Im so pleased to find you and be here, any help will be greatly appreciated.

It was beautiful here the last 3 days. I've got spring fever so bad. I really want to start wearing crop pants and sandals - MAJOR faux pas in this part of the South to wear white before Easter and after Labor Day, and it appears that some other trends kinda follow that trend. Though I do break out the crops with the 3/4 sleeve tops this weekend. Still too cool for sandals yet. Won't be too much longer.

Hubby and I went running today, just a quick 1 1/2 around the neighborhood. Was great to get out. I can tell a big difference in the amount of weight I'm not carrying now that marathon training this time will be much easier.

Has anyone else found that the more the lose the more "skin" they're willing to show? I find that I don't want lose fitting dresses anymore (had to fire Omar the tent-maker). I tend to want things that have a sightly deeper neck-line (V vs. round), be more fitted and have a true waist, etc. Last weekend I went had my short hair cut even shorter because my face isn't so round. Then I hopped on down to the Gap and bought some low rise jeans that are kinda figure hugging. I refer to them as my "J-Lo" (Jennifer Lopez) jeans. I've even tried on a few swimsuits! Am I going crazy? I don't plan on dressing scantily, I guess I just don't have the need or desire to hide in my clothes anymore. It's liberating!

There are so many posts and I want to respond to them all. Here's my attempt:

BOB - I like Calphalon too. We have a lot in common - I had a dachshund as I kid and still love them (My Dixie is a chocolate Lab, kinda big, but she thinks she's a lap dog), I work in an allied health field (aren't you too?), I like all the voyuer t.v. shows, as God as my witness I too love GWTW, I am working on lowering my cholesterol, I like SEC sports (Even though I now live in ACC county), I grew up on football, etc. You cracked me up with the "inspector general comment!" Duke made to the Final 4. Think they'll win the whole shabang? All cheers appreciated. They are more of a local favorite for me. I live 45 minutes from Wake Forest, UNC, NC - Glad that Skeeter is winking again. Don't you love it after they've had a bath? We call it "1/2-heimers."State and Duke! This is basketball country!

LAMAP - Good that you are finally getting some sleep. There was an article on the site recently about how important sleep is to weight loss.

OVERCOME - You're a stamping machine! I think I missed what you and BOB were taking about with the Metamucil, but my guess is that it was A "dookey" issue. My response is Fibercon! :D Pass the cookies!

MARGARET A - Yeah to you for going to the gym!

IDLBLOND - Thanks for your moving anecdote.

GUESSWHO - Welcome to our group. Hope your book comes soon. Keep those questions coming. Moving to Sweden? Fabulous. I lived in Germany for slightly less than a year. Europe is a wonderful place to live. Will you be there long term? Do you speak the language? Congrats on your 50 lb loss!

DEB - You are so close to your goal. I am green with envy and full of joy for You! I know that if I keep working on it I will be where you are soon. We all know we can't do it overnight. It's like eating an elephant; "One bight at at time." I can remember being one of those beligerant teen agers and arguing with my Mom. That never got the end result that I was hoping for. I too found myself getting a little miffed that I wanted a pair of 12's at TJ Maxx tonight and all they had in this particular pant was a 10 and a 14. I almost bought the 10's in hopes that they would fit in about a month but decided not to.

CHERI45 - Glad that you felt like exercising! Taxes Hmm? Not a whole lotta fun!

SPARKLESCAMP - Onolicious - I got it. Wonder who else did? How fun to be 27 again. I feel like I'm 27, act like I'm 27, and get frequently asked if I'm 28, but alas, I'l be 35 in June. I think that I will just start telling people that I'm 28! I would love to go out dancing just for fun! My hubby likes to watch me dance, not much on the participating though. Did you ever see any of the Real World housemates at Local Motion or anyother hangouts? We were there when they were taping the show or just after they wrapped. The BayWatch people were also just getting started.

QUILTER - Thanks for your kind comments! Regarding sick when working out, that is a sure sign that you are overdoing it unless it is a strange coincidence. When you get back in it, don't go more frequently than every other day at first.

Okay - I think that's everyone.

In regards to this previous post regarding my desire to wear clothes that show more flesh, I am NOT interested in duplicating J-Los' Oscar night look! Did she LQQK in the mirror? As BOB would say, My GAWD!

Have a good night.

Peace,

Frog

I wasn't quite finished!

Good morning. Need to get this posted and head for the shower. I was back up a pound this morning. But truly TOM is now so I'm not sweating it.

Rosalie----YUKKKKKKK!!! If I had to start every meal by eating oil, I know right where I’d end the meal. In the bathroom driving the porcelain bus. Nasty. Where did you get your oatmeal/ww bread recipe? I’ve never made bread by hand. Is it truly easy enough for a novice to take on? Lelie’s infomercial has been on at least three different channels. Mostly the stations that ALWAYS air stuff like that. I think I saw it again yesterday. It will probably air all the time for a while and then fade out into infomercial oblivion. Let me know if you want a phone number. I’ll try and remember to jot it down. I’ll also look for a website.

MELF--Thanks for the breakfast idea. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE cottage cheese and really love finding new things to eat with it. Do you eat yogurt? That works too when you are out of milk. As a matter of fact, I never use milk on my puffed Kashi, just the yogurt.

AMSER---Great talking to you last night Once again, I’m glad you had a good vacation and that it was safe for everyone. You also made me LOL about the lotto. Wish you’d have one too . . . since I didn’t buy a ticket! Ha!

ANNETTE---If you get to lurk during vacation, here’s my message: HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!! We’ll miss you but will wait for your return.

FROG---Thanks for your tip on the exercise. I always start out and go every single day. So I think I’ll try the every other until I feel it’s safe to increase. You made me LOL abou the JL clothing line. We didn’t watch the oscars last night . . . those ppl are all so self absorbed I just can’t stomach it. But do like to see the clothes. When you referred to JL, I immediately though of that horrendous green dress from a couple of years ago. I’m sure you remember. HA!

DEB---Hope your eyes are better. That skin around them is so delicate, take care. Thanks for posting the picture. Ain't we sweet?

BEE 125---Welcome to the board. Yes, this is the way to lose weight. Your cravings will soon vanish and you'll be able to concentrate on losing. Only once in a great while do I find I have a craving and it's always after I' ve eaten someting off program. A good reason to stay on track.

Now I have to tell you a story about my father-in-law. This should really appeal to all the walkers in our group. First let me say that he’s a great guy and I love him dearly. He’s retired and is REALLY into taking care of his body. He eats very healthy food and works out every day at a local fitness club. Well a while back he got this idea that he’d set a goal for himself at the gym. So he decided to walk to Denver from Cincinnati. Not literally walk there, but keep track of his miles on the treadmill or the track and see how long it takes. I think he may have set a deadline date, but I’m not sure. The local newspaper heard about this, so they interviewed him and it was in the paper last week. Cool, huh? I think it’s a great idea. Really puts those miles you all hoof into perfect perspective.

Have a great monday. I may be on late tonight. Will try and do the TM when I get home from tutoring. So I may just be too pooped. If so, see you on Tuesday.

Take care.

Good morning, thank goodness it's a new week. I am going to make bread this week since I am on Spring Break. I have a few SB recipes from the cookbook Sugar Bust For Life. It's a great companion book to the original, has lists in the back of brand names of legal foods. As soon as I saw Cardini's Original Caesar Dressing on the list, I knew SB was for me!

My parents have a new baby...a little filly named Cayenne (yes, she is a red color). I am off to see her and enjoy a day at the farm.

A thought: Where you are is an okay place to be, but it's not an okay place to stay. That applies to more than just weight. Peace...

I have been away from the board for a few days while I have been on the road. I am now officially on vacation in NC!

Frog--It's cold up here! I think it will be a little while yet before we break those sandals out! I went to my Niece's soccer game yesterday and we wrapped up like it was the middle of January! Oh well, at least it is great to be able to watch the NCAA tournament this weekend with people who truly understand basketball. Those SEC folks don't--bless their hearts. For the next week I'm transforming myself into a Duke fan (actually always root for Duke anyway except for the days they play State).

Welcome to all the newcomers! You can learn so much from this board and the good wommin on it! We are all about getting rid of sugars, refined flours, potatoes (except those sweet ones), corn, rice (except the brown) and pastas made from enriched flours (WW is fine and dandy). Oh yes--and carrots are EVIL!

Other than that you can eat almost anything else (and there really is more left out there than you think). We enjoy proteins, whole grain carbs, veggies, fruit, dairy and a moderate amount of fat in our diets.

I've got a couple of on the road stories:

Saturday I was in the car for more than 8 hours. This has always been difficult for me because fast food is so SB unfriendly. But because it's Lent eating off program is not an option for me. This is what I did. I had a big breakfast--eggs, bacon (non-sugarcured) whole wheat pancakesand SF syrup. Then I took some grapes to munch on in the car and an ATkins bar for lunch. It worked fine. The breakfast kept me from being hungrymost of the morning and when I did geta little hungry in the afternoon, the Atkins bar was very satisfying. When I got to my parents house they had steaks, salads and sweet potatoes for dinner.

Yesterday we went to visit my brother andhis family. MY DB is eating low fat, while Iam eating lowcarbs. My poor sister-in-law was trying to figure out how to feed everyone and keep both of us on program. She cooked Chicken pot pie for the family and bakedchicken breaks for DB and me. I really appreciated the support and told her so. I explained thatordinarily I'dbe a little more flexible, but because I made strick observance of SB my Lenten observance I wanted to stay with it. She said she wanted me to stay with it and was more than happy to accomodate us. I think I'll have to take her a small gift when I go for another visit later in the week. BTW--my brother has lost 23 lbs!

There areno reliablescales here so I won't be posting my weight this week (unless I go out and buy some--an urge I'm trying to resist). I think freedom from the one-eyedmonster will be the best vacation of all!

Good Monday morning all. Hope your weekend was fine!

I never got to meet Annette. I was truly hoping she would call, or e-mail me her phone number, but I never heard from her. I did get an e-mail after I got home, and I believe that she was getting ready to go on her trip, and so this was not a good time for her. I found out that I was about 30 minutes from where she lives. I spent my Saturday afternoon doing some counted cross stitch that I pick up whenever we travel, or when I have a free block of time away from home.

Daytona Beach was a busy place with quite a few spring breakers there. Lot's of cars on the beach about 4 pm. I am not a sun worshipper so I never really went down to the beach or sat around the pool during our Saturday afternoon break. All the others there went out for Saturday night dinner, but another woman and I stayed in and cooked a SB legal supper: pan grilled teryaki chicken breast, fresh steamed cauliflower and broccoli, and green salad. There were lots of snacky food and I succummed a bit. I am a muncher!! :(

My mother is a huge Duke fan, Frog and Fillise. My stepdad worked as an administrator at the university hospital there, so she has followed Duke football closely. Looks like the ACC will be in the finals. The neatest thing I ever saw at an ACC Bball game was at a Wake Forest Duke game in Winston-Salem. The cheerleaders did a stunt with a surfboard from which they had removed the bottom fin. The Deacon stood on the surfboard on the Bball floor and the cheerleaders layed down under the board and rolled over and over, "surfing" the board down the court. It was neat.

Welcome newbies.

Well, I'll sign off. Have lots of work to do today. Deb, I enjoyed the picture of y'all in Naples. Everyone looks cute.

Have a great SB Day!

Oh, and welcome Bee, this is a great board and everyone here is very supportive. You will not regreat coming here.

I have a question for you walkers...Do you walk before or after breakfast??? When I walk in the am, I have been walking before eating, but it seems like that is not a good idea because I'm soooo exhausted when I get back. On the other hand, I don't want to walk right after eating either. Please tell me what works best for you?

Got my 3.3 miles done in 52 minutes this am. Good news too. Remember a while back I said I had a problem with Tachycardia? Well this walking is really good for my CV system cause my heart rate was only 112 when I got back this am! Scale said 162 this am, but was 163 yesterday, so I'm waiting till WIW for the official count.

Debelli, listing Birthdays would be a great idea!!!
Thanks for posting the picutre of Quilter & the group. Gee, BOB is the shortest of the bunch! Just kidding BOB.

OVERCOME, Thanks for posting that cookie site. Sure will check that one out. You really are into baking alot aren't you? Too bad you live so far away... I have some good salad dressing receipes...will try to post a couple later today.

Cheri, You go girl, you're doing great with your walking. I find that the walking is helping my back problem too. I haven't had to go to the Chiropractor since I started walking. This sure is a lot cheaper too!! LOL.
I'm afraid I get on the scale everyday too. Can't stand not to, & I also get upset when it goes up, but it does help me to be more cautious of what I eat that day.

Debbie, I never find anything at garage sales...well, hardly ever..LOL You mentioned selter water. I read somewhere that you can add a couple of herbal tea bags in a bottle of selter & let it stand a couple of hours & then add your own sweetner. Was it you that posted that? I haven't tried it yet, but I just picked up a bottle of it & plan to try it out. That WILD ORANGE TEA sure sounds good. Will have to try that the next time I go into Lafayette. BTW, what do you think of the Somerizing plan? Sounds alot like SB, except for the combining idea. She sure does have some good recipes in her book. Tried a couple of them & will post some later.

SparkleScamp, It sounds like you & Frog & I are all 3 about the same size, give a lb or 2. I'm hoping to get down to my mini goal of 150 for vacation time which is the first week of June. Got 12-13 lbs to go.

BOB, I know how family visits can be difficult, but I'm sure you'll do fine with your visitors. You really sound like you would be the gracious hostess. Hey, I found a Chicken recipe page & thought of you. Alot of these are low glycemic recipes.
http://busycooks.about.com/food/busycooks/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=/library/pfrecipes/chkzucgarliccrm.htm

Quilter, yes I am feeling better. Thanks for asking. I can relate to what you said about missing out on the posts & feeling left out. On the 12 hr work days when I can't seem to keep up with the reading, I do feel like that too. But not for long. Once I get caught up on the reading I'm ok again. I love to read your posts. You always have lots to say. I'm really not much of a conversationalist (is that really a word?) I do seem to end up with long posts when I have time to read them all though.

Annette, I agree, sometimes life just gets toooo hectic & we need to just slow things down, but where do we make the cuts? If you're like me, it's not easy & you just go full speed ahead till something gives...LOL Hope you have a really nice trip to PA.

Rosalie, we missed you on board! I know what you mean about walking alot at work. Sometimes I wish I had a meter to check how much I really walk there. I think that does count, I noticed that on Fitday.com they have it listed for walking at work.

amseraphim, Yes we miss you. Glad to see you back. Ocala is a nice area. I believe that it's near Silver Springs? We went there a few years ago. Glad to hear that you were able to stay mostly OP this while you were away. Yes, it's sad to hear about the drought. We were like that here last summer. We didn't cut grass but maybe 3 times all summer cause our grass was dead! We're ok now & praying that things will soon be better in Fla.

Well ya'll, I only responded to last weeks board & have not got a chance to read for today, but I just got a call to go work some OT this evening, so I need to iron a uniform. Hope to check in tomorrow after work!

EVENING EVERYBUDDY :D

Just a quick note before fixing some dinner! I made the mistake of "taking the grocery store tour" after work and just got home!

DEB: I had dropped Suzanne a note asking if we could send a donation directly to her and now you post this. I'm so glad we can do this without using a credit card.
I'm not a fan of doing that. My GAWD if everyone sent her a dollar every month, they would have NO BOARD WORRIES! What's a good figure do you think?
AND TOO MY SURPRISE.....THEY ARE 3 TENNESSEE GALS!! I didn't know they lived in Tennessee? Johnson City is DEAD IN THE EAST TN MOUNTAINS!!! MY STOMPING GROUND :D

Jenny: WELCOME Glad to have you with us. Just join right in...you'll be a master in no time!

FROG: I had to read your post OUT LOUD at work today. I'm ALWAYS preaching the NO WHITE SHOES to everyone! Of course they don't listen, and I SHUDDER everytime someone walks in with them on!
Yes, it's me who works in healthcare, and when I saw that dress last night....THOSE WERE JUST MY WORDS!

Mary: Thanks for the recipes..I bought CHICKEN tonight at the grocery!

Well.....gotta scoot...

Good evening everyone :)

Kim - The recipe for the oatmeal bread came from the web site of Robin Hood Flours @ www. robinhood.ca. I adapted the recipe for SB also changed a couple of things to make it easier. It doesn't require any kneading except for a few minutes to get it into shape. Also I only leave it to rise once in the pan. I am sure it would be easy enough for any novice to make. I will post the recipe on the March Recipe Board. I just had a quick look at Leslie Sansone's web site. There's info there about products she advertises on QVC so I will check it out later.

Deb - Thanks for posting the address of Suzanne. I would definitely like to send something to support this board. I would hate the thought of it closing for want of funds. That's a great picture of you, Kim, Bob and friends. Thanks for posting it. I think listing birthdays is a neat idea. Sorry you won't make it to Canada this time. Who knows, maybe some time in the future we will have the opportunity to meet.

Melf - When I do my "Indoor Walk" (video) I like to do it before breakfast, after my morning coffee. I don't like to eat breakfast until about 9-9.30am and also like you don't fancy exercising right after eating. If I waited until after breakfast then I would probably never get it done. My walk, though, is shorter than yours - it's just 30 minutes for the 2 Mile Walk. When the weather warms up I may try going out for a real walk.

Well, I am thinking of going for a swim tonite, soon as I get the dishes done. They didn't work me too hard at work to-day so I have a little energy left.

Will check in later.

Hi Gals!!! Can we all heave a collective sigh for the winter that just won’t take the hint and go away??? UGH!!! Tonight it’s suppose to be 16 degrees. It’s really way past nippy out there. And I know there are ppl farther north than me who are probably even colder. My daffodils were all on the verge of bursting with color. Now they’ll be limp as a you-know-what.

Oh well, now that I’ve gotten that major gripe ou tof the way, I feel much better. WE made wonderful salads tonight. And Paul skillet cooked some chicken breasts to have on top of the salads. I also put feta cheese and sesame seeds and almond slivers in them. It was quite tasty. Hope you all had a great day.

RHROO---Girl, I feel your pain. I have been there and definitely done that. Listen, you can do this!!!!! You can REALLY!!! Do you think you are having cravings and cheating because of previous cheats. You know what that evil sugar does to your body. I kept allowing myself to have those “little extras” that were not OP. And then it hit me last week when I had to fill out that poll. I cheat and I didn’t like putting it down to be calculated. That’s what helped me get back on track. You’ll find what it is for you that will help you get back on track. Remember our new mantra, “I AM STRONGER THAN ______________.” So sorry to hear about your aunt’s passing. That is definitely a high stress time for families. Hang in there. I’ll send prayers and good thoughts your way.

MARGARET---Good luck with the bread. I have made two recipes out of that book. They were the ones for the bread machine. The plain ww one worked the one with the buttermilk looked like a rock that fell from outerspace.

DEB---Just sitting here wondering how your eye is. You didn't know how many mother hens you had until you started talking about this. HA!!! Thanks for giving us Suzanne's address. I too want to give, but would also like to hear what you think would be a reasonable donation. Do you think any of the other boards know about this and would be willing to contribute? Do you have any contact with anybody outside this board other than Suz?

FILLISE---Glad to see you are reporting while on vacation. I was hoping you’d be able to check in from there. Did you instruct your parents what to feed you? That sounded like a great SB meal.

GATOR---Sounds like you had a good weekend. The dinner you “stayed in and cooked” sounded better than what was at the restaurants!!! Good for you!!!

CHERI---I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!! That’s a big breakthrough!!! You are now on the downhill slide to the 260’s. You’ll feel so great when you break that next zero. (That’s what we called it at Weight Watchers.) Hey, you are inspiring me to GET OFF MY LAZY BUTT and do some walking. I’m sure that’s why you’ve had such a loss in the past couple weeks. Way to go!!! I can’t wait to meet you!! We are going to have so much stuff to talk about!!!!

BOB---I am with you on the white shoes. I really make is a practice NEVER to wear white shoes (not counting tennis shoes). They just seem to glaring and they stand out too much. My size 9s always look bigger in white than anything else. Hey, did we have the conversation about me going to college in TN?? I think we did, but just wanted to double check that. When I read Suz’s address, I just about fell off my chair. Johnson City is at the top of my list for favorite places.

MELF---Yes, I am QUITE the talker!!! And the funny thing is my husband is super quiet. (Ask Narda and Deb!!) I guess that’s why we make such a good couple. You are funny. I guess you find yourself posting a lot because we are such an easy group to talk to. Right?

ROSALIE---Thanks for posting that recipe. You are a dear!!! I will keep an eye out for it. Be sure and put your little adjustments and tips for getting it just right. I’ll be excited to try it. Have the bread machine, but kind of feel like that’s the cowards way out at times. (Sometimes I feel ou of control with it doing all the mixing . . . just want to get in there and get my hands messy!!) Glad you found some stuff on Leslie’s sight. I envy you going to swim tonight. Do you have an indoor pool? Where do you go? A health club? I know you can’t be doing any outside swimming up north at this time of year.

Hey, did anybody else see MELF’s post as being too wide for the screen? Just wondering. This is the first time it’s happened to me and wanted to see if it was just my computer being weird. I had to keep scrolling back and forth to read it.

Well, friends, have a very nice night. Sleep tight and let’s have sweet dreams filled with sf chocolate!!!

Good evening everyone!

Well I got my errands done but couldn't get in my walk. Guess today will have to be the day I don't exercise (I set aside one day to rest my weary bones). Anyway I did pretty good on my eating today. I didn't eat breakfast. I know, that's not a good idea. Anyway, for lunch I made a veggie hoagie on a ww roll with lite mayo. It was awsome. For dinner I had grilled chicken (yes, I am having chicken and fish. It was too much to cut out at once) and a salad. So... all's well here at my house today.

Kim: It will be so great when we finally do get to meet. We probably will be talking a mile a minute :D As for losing this last bit before I get to "break that next zero". I can hardly wait. I am such an impatient person. I WANT IT NOW!! Oh, and about the screen being extra wide on that one post. It was the same for me.

Rosalie: Swimming sounds so nice. I wish we had an indoor pool but we only have an outdoor one. I can hardly wait until it gets warm enough to go.

Melf: I walk before breakfast. I don't really like to eat when I first get up. I get a little sick if I walk after eating. It's really great that your heart rate has slowed down after your exercise. Maybe the Dr. will start reducing the amount you take if it keeps up.

GatorGal: Sounds like you did the wise thing staying in on Saturday and making your dinner. It sounded really good too. Probably better than you would of had out anyway. Your SIL sounds like she is a very caring person to fix you and your brother separate meals from the rest. That is great that your brother has lost 23 lbs too.

MargaretA: Hope you had a great day at the farm with Cayenne. I'll bet she's beautiful.

Rhoo: Sorry to hear about your Dad's sister. It sounds like you are under some stress. Just keep getting back on the program. Soon, things will a click and you'll be doing fine. Don't beat yourself up when you make a mistake. Learn from it, try not to make that same mistake again and go on from there. It's really difficult I know. We are here to help.

Debbie: I think it would be nice to post the months Birthdays. Also, I too would like to know what a reasonable amount everyone is going to donate to the Board. Thanks for posting the picture of you, bob, kim, sharon and her friend. Looks like you all had a great time.

Everyone have a great day tomorrow. I'll be on later in the afternoon. Gotta get some things done downtown tomorrow morning.

Hello all..I am still trying to get this thing right! I am so encouraged to hear about all of your successs stories!

Question: Are Grape Nuts SB legal? The ingredients are wheat flour, malted barley flour, salt and yeast. BUT the sugar count says 7g. What???

I'd hate to be sabatoging myself with something that is not all that great tasting in the first place!

Any advice is appreciated! Thank you, thank you.

I don't have time to respond individually since my post got wiped at lunchtime. :( But wanted to get a word in...

My thoughts from yesterday:

My recovery works from the inside out, not the outside in. Meaning, if I am going to recover, then I am going to improve the things that people don't see and let the public victories take care of themselves.

So here are some of the private things that I've improved upon in the past few weeks.

Part of what makes me feel good about myself is keeping a clean house. I've been doing a pretty good job for about three weeks now...picking up my clothes, keeping the kitchen clean, vacuuming the floors every week religiously. It won't be long before I hire somebody to do the grunt work believe me!

Another thing is taking care of my appearence. Like I let my hair (which is short) go all to hell so it was a huge boost to get a nice cut and highlight job.

The third area is meeting new people, making friends, and maintaining the friendships I already have. I've always had a hard time fitting in due to my rather insane childhood and social graces are quite new to me. I've discovered one important thing: In order to develop friendships, *I* have to take the initiative and really put time and effort into the process...not just wait for others to include me and then be hurt when they are too busy. So I have a plan in place for meeting new people: by joining (non-time intensive!) clubs according to my own interests (running, biking etc.)

Then of course there are my eating and exercise plans. I'm making a lot of changes, and I've made progress this past week getting the wheels in motion and I'm ready to go! Here are the changes, and this is not a commitment that I can guilt myself over breaking, this is just a guideline:

Regularly do an hour of moderate cardio 6 times a week
Do upper body strength training to exhaustion 2 times per week
Do 50 situps or other ab exercises 7 days a week upon getting up in the morning, without fail! (I've done this for four days so far)
Incorporate some Sugar Buster principles in my diet.
That means, cooking most of my meals at home!
Having 3 carefully planned and balanced meals a day and one optional snack. That means, no calories of any kind between meals!

So how am I doing so far? Sticking to doing my abs in the morning. I can't believe how weak they have gotten. I could only do about 6 situps at first. And this morning, I was running late (of course) and only had time for 30 minutes of cardio. So what to do? I'll just go right after work (and before my OA meeting) and finish the remaining 30 minutes.

I'm excited about planning my meals! I'm amazed at how little attention I've put into my food lately. Once again, it takes creativity!

I went to the health food store and got all kinds of neat stuff. I made another loaf of multigrain bread, this time eliminating white flour and the small bit of brown sugar from the recipe. It turned out pretty darn good, heavy and hearty. The 1/4 cup of oatmeal made it moist but slightly soggy in spots so next time I'll just put the oatmeal in the blender first.

Then I made a rather odd concoction of oatmeal, eggs and yogurt for breakfast, and fried it up in a bit of butter like an omlette. It looked rather gross going into the pan (as you can imagine) but once it was cooked it had the look and texture of a pancake (roughly). I carried it to work and added just a touch of sugar-free jam (Smuckers now makes it in raspberry and apricot). It tasted pretty good, and was filling and nutritious.

I must run. Next time I'm working on a long post I will definitely compose it in Word and save as I go!

I have a couple questions for anyone who would be so kind as to answer:

1) What is agave nectar? Is it made from a fruit or a flower?

2) Can someone PLEASE tell me why carrots are evil? Why are they "illegal" and yet sweet potatoes and fruits are allowed? Is it simply because of the sugar content or is it a particular type of sugar? I haven't had a chance to read the book yet (going to as soon as possible). I'm certainly not going to give up carrots without a fight! ;)

Started this Monday off kinda different. My MIL, BIL, and niece left this morning for Europe, so I got up and went to eat breakfast at MIL's and wish them well. With that done, I went and got some groceries and came home. I didn't walk on TM 1st thing this morning as I usually do. So, I had to exercise that ole will power and do it at another time of day - which is an accomplishment. I get in these patterns, and it seems it's hard to do a certain thing out of sequence. Am I making any sense??? ANYWAYSSSS... I did get my TM walk done around 1:30. I feel a little proud of myself. I haven't walked since Thursday, so it's important I get right back in the saddle. The wedding is this weekend:eek: I am going tomorrow to get the "finished" dress. I may be on the TM constantly from now until Saturday:dizzy: Thankfully I am still under 130!!! I think scale is still showing 129. Geeee - I really think I need to see an eye doctor:lol: Thanks for all the welcome backs! The weekend went pretty fast.

Kim - It's not your computer. Melf's post was rather wide on my computer too. So are the review posts that can be brought up when posting a reply...go figure?? :?:
I also enjoyed our nice chat we had last night. I am on alot, so anytime you are up for chatting just give me a holler :) We are having slightly cooler weather here in Georgia too. I really want to get some more sun before Saturday:(

Sparkle - Don't you hate when those sorta things happen to the posts!!!!! Don't let it get you aggravated. We are right here ready to read when your post makes it to the board!!

Melf - As a rule, I find it best for me to walk first thing, before breakfast. Since exercise is one of the most important priorities for me right now, I like to get it done. I am good at talking myself out of doing things. Yes, Silver Springs is in Ocala. It's been a few years since we went there. That whole area looks so different to me now. It's so developed and very populated.

I am going to close for now. I am getting sleepy. Hope everyone had a great Monday. I look forward to reading your upcoming posts :D

It is my understanding that carrots, like potatoes are a root vegetable. The potato and the carrot are both the root that gorws in the ground and there is a green plant that grows above the earth. A carrot is a tap root.

Carrots have a high glycemic index (GI) number. I have loaned my book to someone else and will not be able to do an adequate job of explaining GI, but I'll try. (Anyone who sees that I got it wrong please correct me!)

A high GI number indicates that it is high in a sugar/starch that causes it to breakdown slowly in the body therefore it is converted to sugar, which in excess, will be stored as fat.

I have eliminated carrots as a healthy snack, but if there are a few shreds in a commercially prepared salad I will eat them.

Hope this helps and hope this is accurate info.

Peace,
Frog

Good Evening to All

Deb, I think the birthday idea is great. I am glad that you made us aware of the money stuff with the board.

Bee 125 Hello and welcome to the board, you will enjoy the support and friendship you will find here.

Quilter Love the story about the walker, I have been doing a trip and telling my counselor that I made it to Tampa and I am on my way back. Since I started walking I have gone about 140 miles, not much I know, but more than I even dreamed I would walk.

Melf I wish that I could walk before breakfast. I am usually at work between 6 and 6:30 every day and no way am I get up to walk before that. I do walk in the evening and am starting to do it before I eat supper, cause if not then I have to wait for an hour or two
And then it is getting late in the evening, but late is better than never.

Cheri- great job at getting back to weight. Now you can only go forward and see more progress. Sounds like you are doing so good, I am happy for you.

SparkeScamp I really enjoyed your post. Seems like you and I are at the same point. What you wrote about is the same stuff that I was talking about with my counselor today.
I had built a wall around myself (I visualize it as a brick wall) to keep people away from me and supported that wall by eating and letting my self go- let my weight go way out of control. I have goals now and slowly the bricks are coming off the wall. I have made this journey my top priority and I am doing this for myself. I also need to make the effort to do things with the friends I have and make new ones, or some day (maybe soon) I just might find myself all alone. I must say this is a wonderful journey and I feel like I have a new beginning and fresh out look on my life. And at a perfect time, my son just moves out and I have the house to myself and I am changing things around. Each day is a new challenge.

Well today I did a quick peek weigh in and I am .25 pounds from my first 50 pound loss.
Boy does that inspire me to keep going. And I feel that right now my pride at doing something I have never thought I would be able to do I is enough to keep my on track and keep me going.

Hope all had a great day tomorrow. Keep :)ing

Have been up since 5am, was out all day long, Lauren's thing was 1 hour behind tonight, I was nice enough to let her go on one, and I said one, ride afterwards, she show's up an hour later-boy, you talk about being MAD!

Anyhow, I'm off to bed, will be on tomorrow sometime to reply to all!!

Sorry, motivational Monday for me is unfortunatly not very motivating - exercise wise for me. (Please pardon the next few moments of whining) I can't seem to get motivated to workout in the morning. Tonight I vacummed the house instead of working out, now it's 9pm and I'm pooped, so I'm going to bed after I post this message. The mornings are short also, I get up at 5am and by the time I get to sit down and catch up on the daily posts, it's 6am and time to wake up my 3 little ones and get them ready for day care and school. I haven't worked out since last Wed., Thursday I got the stomach yuck and used that excuse until now. My best friend will be here tomorrow night to do Martial Arts training with me and I know he's going to know I haven't been working out...

Sparklescamp: I like the goals you have established. I can set goals, but it's the implementation and keeping it up that I'm lacking in. Adopting a low glycemic lifestyle has been easy, for the most part, I feel better, I look better, and I'm not having so many episodes with my gastritis. But exercise....UGH! I can't seem to stay in the groove. So, I'm borrowing one of your rules...hope you don't mind...I will do some sort of ab work every morning, if it means rolling out of bed onto the floor. (Thanks for the motivation, I knew I would find it here)

Big Orange Babe: Over a year ago I discovered Starbucks Frappucinos (yummy!) and although I didn't believe the doctors at first, the coffee is really bad for my stomach and causes the problems I have to be more pronounced, so when I adopted a sugar free lifestyle, I quit drinking coffee and all other caffiene, as well as most decaf stuff. I have thought about going back in to check out their decaf tea, but just can't bare smelling the wonderful coffee aroma. Please, enjoy a cup for me.

Guesswho and Bee125: Welcome!

MargaretA: 3 months smoke-free...CONGRATULATIONS! As I enter my 4th year of a smokeless life, I still struggle with the social aspect of smoking (I liked stepping outside away from the hustle and bustle to have a smoke) but I know if I were ever to pick up another cigarrette, it would be my doom. I have found that there are other ways for me to take a break now and enjoy the tastes of foods and the smells...it's weird how intense these sensations can be now that I am smoke-free.

Debelli: The birthday idea is a good one. Hope your eyes are getting better, allergies can be nasty. I have a house full of allergy sufferers and the season has only just begun. Thanks for posting the picture, it's nice to put names and faces together.

Rhroo: I'm sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers to you and yours.

Until tomorrow. It's late and I can barely keep my eyes open.

Lara

Just a quickie before I head off to bed.

Kim - No I won't be doing any outside swimming for a while. We have several indoor swimming pools, all run by the town. I use the indoor pools even in the summer. The temperature here this morning was 14F. This evening it is 23F although that will probably change overnight. I haven't seen any daffodils or tulips yet. A few days ago they were still covered with snow although it is gradually disappearing. The sooner the better, not that I am looking forward to cleaning up the garden.

Rhroo - Sorry to hear about your loss.

Sparkle - Agave Nectar is a syrup produced from the Agave flower and has a glycemic index of only 11. For more information check out the following sites: www.preparedfoods.com/archives/1999/9906/9906western.htm
www.wcommerce.com/agave_advfac.htm

The reason carrots are not recommended on SB is because their GLYCEMIC INDEX is high. SB lists them as having a gi of 85, althgough another list has them at only 49 gi. Sweet potatoes are allowed as they have a lower glycemic index of 54. The following is a quote from The Glucose Revolution on the Glycemic Index:

"The glycemic index of foods is simply a ranking of foods based on their immediate effect on blood glucose - or blood sugar levels.

Carbohydrate foods that break down quickly during digestion have the highest glycemic indexes. Their blood sugar response is fast and high.

Carbohydrates that break down slowly, releasing glucose gradually into the blood stream, have low glycemic index values."

The quicker the blood sugar is raised the more insulin is produced and it is the excess insulin that promotes the storage of fat.

I personally do continue to eat RAW carrots. Michel Montignac in his book "Eat Yourself Slim" gives RAW carrots a gi of only 30.

If you wish to read more about the Glycemic Index check out Rick Mendosa's site at www.mendosa.com/gi.htm

Hope this helps.

Nite.

It’s early and I’ve been awake since 4:30. Just laid there and tried to fall back asleep. I hate when that happens. Anyways, I’m two pounds down from yesterday. That’s a good thing. Let’s hope the needle doesn’t bounce back up for tomorrows WIW. I really like this weighing everyday. I have a chart and write it in every day. Then at the end of the week, I figure my weekly average, but still like to focus in on the lowest day. Of course!

SPARKLE---Sounds like you are really working hard to live your life in the way that you see will be good for you. Keep it up. I sure do wish I could (would) do 50 situps every morning!!!

AMS---You should be proud that you got your tm done today. I know exactly what you mean about having a pattern and doing things out of sequence. It’s really difficult especially when it’s something I’m not “drawn” to do. At least that’s the way it is for me. BTW, was that YOU reading your SB book that you posted????

LAMAP---I’m so glad to hear you could relate to my father in law. That’s great that you are tracking your progress. What an accomplishment. It’s so good to hear about your sneak weigh in. Let’s hope that .25 will be off by tomorrow. I’m sure the Dookie Houser method should take care of that! Ha!

ROSALIE---Glad to know that I’m not the only one freezing. Keep warm. That’s great that you have your choice of pools to use. There’s nothing close by me and everything available is at places you have to join.

Well, girls, I need to go start the beauty routine. Can’t cut that short. Have a great day. Talk to you later.

Limit your cheese consumption to one meal a day.

When I first got OP I found that cheese was a wonderful hunger-fighter for me and was not a trigger food. I ate cheese like a mouse on speed. Cheese toast for breakfast, cheese cube snack-packs, cheese and Triscuits, cheese on my sandwiches, etc. I think you get the picture. It was also not the best snack choice secondary to trying to lower my cholesterol.

Now that I have limited myself to only having cheese at one meal, regardless of how large or small that serving is, I am seeing the weight drop off a little more rapidly than before.

Gotta go get ready for work - going outta town for an all-day meeting in Chapel Hill, home of the famed UNC.

Peace,

So far I'm still OP. I cooked fresh asparagus for my DPs last night--Dad was a little skeptical about those "logs" on his plate, but Mom really liked them.

Today we are driving down to Myrtle Beach for the day. Good Seafood, so no problem there--I prefer my seafood broiled or steamed instead of fried--a blessing.

Sparkle--The SB book lists carrots as high glycemic, though other GIs don't. For me the "carrots are evil" mantra is a psychological boost. I spent so many years on so many diets where I ate nothing but carrots, that I like not being able to eat them now. Divine justice somehow!

Deb--I get swollen eyes from allergies everynow and then. We've never been able to pin point what causes it, but I look really grotesque when it happens. It will swell and go down for a few days and then go away as mysteriously as it came.

Everyone: Is it me, or are we hearing more success stories lately? It seems that there is a lot of hard work on this board to really lose bad habits and adopts good ones. That'swhat insires me most!

Tuesday Tip: I am becoming a big believer in keeping some type of low-glycemic bar with you at all times. I don't eat them everyday, but they are useful when you are running short of time or get stuck somewhere where there are no acceptable food choices.

Have a good day everyone!

Somehow I cut my own success story out of the last post!

Went shopping yesterday and bought a lower size for the first time. I was wearing 30W-32Ws when I began this WOE in July. By Thanksgiving, I was into 24Ws. Yesterday I bought my first 22Ws!

I am now doing the happy dance (or at least what I can do of one with a bum knee).

A Terrific Tuesday to all!

BOB, I noticed that Suzanne is from the home town of the country's greatest college football coach!! :)

Sparkle, when something is high gi it converts too quickly to sugar in the body, and the insulun level shoots up too rapidly. According to the gi testers, carrots has this effect, although some people don't seem to notice that with carrots.

Fillise, hope you are having a warmer time today on your trip. It is rather nippy here in central Fla. Congratulations on your new sizes.

Annette, hope you are keeping warm up there in PA.

Sparkle--more info on agave nectar. Agave is a cactus and that is where the juice comes from. I don't know if it comes from the flower or the cactus "meat" but apparently it is very sweet, and low gi.

Gotta go. Thought I'd get in a few notes before I left for work today.

With the morning sun comes a new beautiful day, which began with 40 reps on my abslider. Thanks for letting me whine last night, after letting it all out and thinking about the success and struggles we have all gone through my heart, body and soul are back on track!

I don't have a tip, yet, but I'll be back to the boards later.

Fillise: Congratulations to you on your size 22! It's the best feeling in the world to get in a smaller size. I'm doing the happy dance for you!

Happy Tuesday:)

My family and I are back from our trip to Atlanta. We were suppose to go to the beach but because it has been so cold in the panhandle of Alabama and Florida we decided to make a fun trip to Atlanta. Went to Six Flags, had a nice hotel suite with an indoor pool and excercise room, went shopping for clothes:) and just had a nice family time.

Since I have been on maintenance I have eaten mainly on plan. Well on this trip we went to the Olive Garden and I did eat off plan but not too bad. Because of all the excercise I didn't gain but remained the same.

*************
On the question of when do I walk. I walk when I have time. On the weeknights I walk right after work. Usually I have a SB snack at 3pm and then when I walk at around 5:30 I am fine. On the weekends I walk around 10 a.m. after eating breakfast at around 8am. I find that if I walk on an empty stomach I am exhausted.

*************

BOB and Frog: Know how I get around the "don't wear white until after Eater rule"? I buy bone/off white shoes. That way I can wear lighter colored clothes but not break that rule. Matter a fact I found a great pair yesterdayt that I bought.

Well have to run. Glad everyone is doing so well on plan.

Another rainy Tuesday! I really had hoped the weather would cooperate this week, no dice.

I have had a fairly good OP week, one thing that helps is that Steve, aka The Boyfriend, is doing SB right now. I hope he will stick with it, as it makes it more fun for me. Tonight I will give him chicken breasts sauteed in olive oil with mushrooms and a splash of balsamic vinegar, asparagus, salad with Cardini's caesar dressing, and one little slice of my homemade bread if it turns out okay! His daughter is getting married in June, and the old man wants to look good. He is usually in very good shape, but his new job has cut down on exercise time. We can all relate to the time issue with exercise!

Cheri: Thanks for the tip about the bread. I was going to make the one with buttermilk...now I think not! I have never made bread with ALL WW flour, wondered if it would be too heavy.

Rosalie and Frog: I eat those little shreds of carrot in my "romaine in a bag" also. I always wonder if that 's enought to get the insulin flowing. I wish they would just leave out the carrots though.

Fillise: I also am an asparagus NUT. Is it just here, or is all the asparagus teeny tiny this spring? I haven't found any that is really big enough to be really good. Also, congrats on your new size. Talk about motivating: the new size, or the new decade number on the scale are the best motivators of all.

Sparkle: You sound like such a together person. I admire anyone who works on themselves like that. It's hard to take such a close look, or at least it is for me.

A final note: Agave, isn't that what tequila is made from? Hot diggity! Does that mean margaritas are legal? J/K, but that would be a real motivator!

Off to the gym, since I said I exercise 3 times a week, guess I'd better do it.

One last thing: Where do I go for directions on adding an image? I thought I could browse, copy, and paste. It doesn't seem to work that way. I can do it in email with the insert button, but this is baffling me!

Good Tuesday morning to all :D

I am going to get my bridesmaid dress today. I sure hope all that TM'ing I am doing is going to pay off!! Now, I need to keep this SB butt in gear and clean... YUCK  Housework is NOT my forte'. Did get some yardwork done yesterday. I should actually log that in on exercise board,

Kim - I really appreciate the support you give me. Not sure if I have mentioned it, but I weigh every day too. It's been a good way for me to keep my will power intact ;) I sure hope you sleep better tonight, girl. Drink that water and WIW will be very, very good to you.
BTW... in my previous post, that was me reading all the good posts from all you special people :D

Deb - I hope your schedule will slow down a bit for you. I know I hate it when things seem to be hectic and my energy - mental & physical - takes a beating :spin:

Keep up all the great work everyone. All of you who keep encouraging and educating when someone wants to learn, you are appreciated more than you know

Better get myself in motion........... This is for all you who are seeing GREAT results. And, this is also how I am trying to get motivated to do those chores, ughhhh >>>

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone!

I'm still so tired, woke up this morning after little sleep with my legs feeling like rubber. I got out and walked anyhow, but just 3.5 miles. I'm longing to climb back into the bed.

Still pissed at Lauren-and she knows it. I don't think she'll be doing this again-she should of known better from the beginning, but she sure knows now!

For all of you who mentioned a contribution to the 3FC's site-honestly, whatever you would like to give is fine. Every dollar must help them out. I just want you to make sure, if you are going to send in a donation, that you put in a note that it's from the SB BOARD. Suzanne recognizes our board as having a wonderful group of women who get along so well, and I want her to know that not only do we support each other, but her and this entire site as well. As many have mentioned, it would be sad to see this site close down due to lack of funds. I personally had NO IDEA it took so much $$$ to keep up a webiste! I don't know how they do it, really. So, when I hear a cry for help, which is what this is, I need to respond. Like I said, I can't give much, but I can surely give something, and every little bit must help, because, just light 1lb, every dollar adds up!!! Thanks for wanting to help as well-I'm sure Suzanne will be pleased, and surprised from our board members dedication!!!!:)

Today is TUESDAY TIPS and my contribution was prompted my MELF's question about grape nuts and my question about MALTED BARLEY FLOUR. The site below explains many things about different flours, so I thought it was interesting enough to share. Just click on the linke below:

http://detnews.com/menu/stories/38508.htm

Glad to hear you all like the b.day idea, will try to get it implimented for this month. It may take a little bit to work on, as some of those who have fallen at the wayside and haven't been on the board for a long time, might have their names posted, will do my best to weed things out best I can until we have our BIO BOARD updated.

RHROO, Move in, would love you to-but you'll have to make a reservation, I have Sharon here for at least another week. You need to figure out WHY you continue to cheat when you could of easily been at goal right now. Is something about reaching goal bothering you?? I know it did for me in the past, I would get nervous, but not this time. I can't wait to reach goal! Keep focused-you're almost there-look how far you've come! Sorry to hear about your Aunt, my regards to you and your family.

MARGARET, hope you are enjoying your Spring Break. I envy those like you who can bake bread, I think I made a challah once, probably about 18 years ago, came out great, but haven't done that since-I hate to have to knead anything! I don't have the patience, or the confidence that it will come out okay-plus, after thinking about the cleaning up, I'd rather just buy the bread;) That chicken sounds yummy. I could eat a Kims one night, yours another-sorta like AL in the Oncor commercials! Congrats on the new "family member". Loved your quote!!! On the images question, are you talking about posting the little pictures, or a pic of yourself??

FROG, great quote, thanks for sharing. I played DOOKIE HOUSER for almost 72 hours-I'm hoping this role won't come up again like that for a while. Geez, I defilitely show that I'm lacking fiber! As for the cheese, I don't limit mine like you do, but I do have a few ounces a day, usually low fat-wonder if that makes a difference, do you think I can have 2 ounces LF, vs 1 ounce regular??

FILLISE, hoping you are having a wonderful vacation. Where in NC?? Sounds like you are doing great staying on plan and your family is very supportive in your efforts. Don't worry about the scale this week, enjoy your vacation, stay on plan, and when you return you see what the scales say-you may be surprised. Just remember, food doesn't make you have a good time, the people and places you go do!!!! Yummy, fresh seafood-thank goodness it's SB legal!! I have to agree, we are having more successes-I think the support of the members of this board have a lot to do with it-it has for me!! Your success in coming down so many sizes is wonderful. You should be VERY PROUD of this accomplishment! One thing I never did when I was very heavy, was save one of my old dresses at my highest weight-to use as a reminder of where I had been and how far I had come, you may want to do it if you still have something old left in the closet. Again, CONGRATS!!!

CHERI, glad to hear you are down to 273.5, CONGRATS!!! Sorry you didn't get in your walk yesterday-I hate when I really want to walk, but can't. Ruins my whole day. As for the donation, like I said above, anything, no matter how big or small, would be helpful and much appreciated!!

MELF, I've read where it's better to eat before you go walking, but I don't always follow that, I go by how I feel. If I'm hungry when I wake up, I'll have a piece of fruit before I go, or maybe a slice of toast and eat later after I return. Your'e doing great with your walking, and glad to see the scale is down for you as well. Hope WIW is good for you, and all of us tomorrow!:) I didn't post that about the seltzer and tea backs, but sounds interesting! I put lemon & sweetener in seltzer once in a while, tastes like lemon soda. I read both of the SS books before deciding on SB, it's very similar, but her diet is a lot more strict, you have to worry about food combining, which got complicated, at least I thought it was. Also, you can't have nuts, avocado and other good fats that you can on SB-so this is another reason I chose SB.

SPARKLE, I know how you feel about losing a post-happens to me more times than I care to remember!!!! I like your courses of action for yourself. You really seem to be getting a handle on things. Rome wasn't built in a day they say, and things take time. Keep up the great work!! The sites ROSALIE gave you on the agave nectar are good. Check the FOOD INFORMATION BOARD, I think there is some other info there as well-agave is WONDERFUL! Actually, raw carrots in small amounts, (like a bit of shreds in a salad) are okay, it's when they are cooked that the GI goes up. BUT, it gets too confusing for people to remember, so they tend to just say carrots are not to be eaten.

BIGO, didn't know before now that Suzanne was from TN, but for 6 months she's actually a UK resident. Someone must be watching things in TN for her. As mentioned above about donation amounts, whatever you want to give, I'm sure whatever the amount, it will be greatly appreciated.

ROSALIE, sounds like you are working too hard. I hope things quiet down for you. Trust me, there will be a day that I get to Canada in the not too distant future-we'll be sure to meet, one day! Did you get in your swim?? That must be relaxing for you. Thanks for posting all the informative info-you're always so great at doing that for others!:D

QUILTER, with weather that cold, makes you wish you were back here I bet! YUM, that chicken sounds delicious-can I come for dinner?? Eyes seems to be fine, thanks for asking. Like mentioned above, with the donation, anything would be greatly appreciated. Don't know who on other boards know about the situation. Don't know anyone else besides Suzanne-she's really the backbone of all this. Down another 2lbs, that's wonderful!!! Hope you're down again tomorrow!!!

RAPTURE, hmmm, I don't think Grape Nuts are okay, but honestly, that's just a thought, I'm really not sure. I don't buy them. The malted barley flour I guess is questionable for me. My TUESDAY TIP above was prompted from trying to find out more about MBF, and it said:

What's malted barley flour, anyway? Malted barley flour oftens appears as the second ingredient on flour labels -- primarily those used for baking bread and other yeast doughs. But even though it's second in weight, the ingredient is actually only a tiny percentage of the flour. The Food and Drug Administration says that the amount of malted barley flour may not exceed 0.75 percent of the weight of the flour.

And why is it there in the first place? As "food for the yeast," says Judi Adams, president of the Wheat Foods Council. That's because in order for yeast to grow, it needs a starch that has been turned into a simple sugar, adds Sands of King Arthur Flour. So when yeast is added to flour, it gets a jump start from the malted barley flour.

Not sure if this is helpful for you.

AMSER, glad to hear you got in your walk, way to go!! You have to feel good afterwards!

IAMAP, only 1/4 a pound away from a 50lb loss! WOW!!! Okay, don't drink, walk miles, and sit on the potty for the next 24 hours! I can't wait for you to get into th 200's-I'll be happy dancing here for you!!!!! CONGRATS!!!

LDBLOND, you're mornings sound like a workout!! I can see why it's hard to get motivated to exercise, but honestly, even if you can get in a short walk, you'll not only feel good about doing it, you'll feel invigorated. I was sooo tired this morning, you have no idea-after my walk, it went away. I know it will hit me later today though, but it's how I feel now that's important. Oh, definintely check out the new TAZO orange tea at Starbucks-every little bit helps pay my OH!!! At least I know Narda is keeping the SB in Sarasota busy!!!

BEACH, glad to have you back, safe and sound and hopefully, relaxed! Sounds like you had a nice time. Glad to hear you didn't gain while you were gone-I'm sure that made the vacation even better!!!

Well gals, the morning is just about gone-have lots to do-Sharon can't believe how much time I sit at the computer to type up my messages!

I'll check in with you all later today/this evening. Please remember TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!! hope the metal monster is kind to us all!!!

Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone... I have just signed up and logged on to your weekly post. Now this is a place I wanna be. I am just getting started and have sooo many questions, but I will only ask one a time so I will not sound sooo stupid!!

I have purchased some Whole Wheat Bread, but I noticed (too late) that it also had brown sugar in it. The sugar is 1 gram per slice.

Now, is the plan to eliminate ALL sugar or is there a gram count tht is acceptable??

I can't wait to get to know all of you! I have about 150 pounds to lose, so I will be here awhile.

Another Louisiana girl....well, SB DID start here, so why not? I know that your neighboring town, Sulphur, is a big rodeo place. I live in Minden, in North Louisiana and am a new member also. These gals are very supportive and helpful.

My bread is rising nicely, it's not bread machine bread, so I got some exercise while kneading it. Also did 45 minutes on the TM, I have a sore back and was afraid to push it too hard.

My question about attaching an image concerned the little cute pictures at the bottom. I know where to get the clipart, just can't figure out what to do to put them in my posts. I don't remember seeing directions anywhere, so if they are here somewhere, please direct me.

Have a good "rest of the day" everyone!

Margaret--If you will scroll down below the box where you type in your replies, you will see "Attach File--Min. size 40000 bytes" and then a blank box with a "browse" button. That is what you use to attach a file under your reply. Like the walking gator that I sometimes attach under my replies. I found all the pictures that I attach on various pages on the internet when I typed in "gif" in my search engine. And then I downloaded various pictures that I liked. I think Big Orange has the biggest download file, because she has lots of cute attachments at the end of her posts.

MARGARET.. All I do is click the bose button at "attach file" then "my pictures" winows is displayed. I higlight the pic I want and click Ok and ther it is entered in the box. Thats it for me.
SPARKLE.. I know when I was at WW lots of people developed a thing for carrots and ate them by the klio, lol. We all have our "red light foods" and carrots must be one of yours. I know one women finds apples trigger her...apples ..Im afraid I just go straight to the real thing and have been known (only to myself mind you) to eat sugar straight from the pack. Apples and carrots are to much work for a fix and IId be too full before they got me going.
ROSALIE all the info posted was great and have saved the site to read later.
RODEOMUM Im new too and I think this is the answer.
Sugar is like a drug to me and gets me in its clutches .
I have to learn to hate it :nono: , its like the devil in disguise

Anyway can somone answer my ? about the flour and which ones we are allowed. Is it all except white or what please?
Also please tell me what amount of sugar per serve or how many grams we are to cut off at????

Good afternoon everyone :)

It's been a dull day here to-day. The present temperature is 32F but this morning when I was out it felt much colder. Oh! for spring.

Ldblond - Glad to hear things are going better for you to-day. Sometimes we just need someone to listen to us. Just verbalising what it is bothering us helps us to get back on track. And it is great you got some exercise in early. That's a good start to the day.

Fillise - Doesn't it feel good to go down a size. Another couple of sizes and you will be into the regular sizes. This is what I really liked when I went down to size 16/18.

Beachfan - Glad you had a good trip to Atlanta and you have been able to maintain. Are you finding it easy to maintain now? I know this was somethig you were concerned about before you reached goal

MargaretA - It's good to hear that BF is also on SB. Doesn't it make it so much easier when you don't have to prepare separate dishes. Your supper sounds yummy. I have made bread with all SGWW flour. I don't find it too heavy, then it depends on what kind of bread you are used to eating. I only occasionally ate white bread before I started SB. I would use it mainly for toast, otherwise I would have either whole what or rye bread. I just posted a recipe for Oatmeal Wholewheat bread. I made this and took it to work a couple of times and everyone really liked it. I can't imagine that a few shreds of carrot would raise your insulin levels very much. After all raw carrots are supposed to have lower gi than when they are cooked. Also they are very low in carbohydrate content. 1/2 cup carrots contain only 6 grams of carbs. Some of this has to be fibre (although I don't know how much). Then when you consider we are allowed up to 3 grams of sugar in a serving I wouldn't think a few grams of carrot could be harmful. Your query about Agave, yes it is what Tequila is made from although I can't answer the question about the margaritas.

Amseraphim - Good luck with the bridesmaid dress. All that treadmilling should pay off.

Deb - You're to be commended for going for your walk when you were feeling so tired. It would be so easy on those days to just hop right back into bed. Thanks for posting the link to the flour article. I found it a very interesting article and one of the best I have seen in explaining the difference in the hard and soft wheats. Perhaps it should be posted on the FOOD BOARD. Yes, I did get in my swim last evening. I swam 32 lengths of the pool, which is 0.8Km.

Rapture - The two GI results I see for GRAPENUTS are 67 and 80 so they are definitely not legal. They also have too much sugar per serving. SB recommends no more than 3 gms of sugar per serving

Iamap - That's great that you are only 1/4 pound from a 50 lb loss. I am ready to do that HAPPY DANCE for you.

RodeoMom - Glad to have you on the board. Regarding sugar, we try to avoid it as much as possible but SB recommends that we have no more than 3 grms per serving. If you can find bread without sugar it would be preferable, but the 1gm per serving is acceptable.

Rhroo - Sorry to hear you and the kids are sick to-day. Hope you are all feeling a bit better by the time you read this. Also hope you can get motivated to stay on plan. You've come too far to let things slide. Maybe your doctor will give you some guidelines of what weight you should aim for. You mention people saying you are too skinny, maybe they are just jealous. Have you checked your BMI lately? Are you close to what you should be?

Bee125 - The flour that is allowed is STONE GROUND WHOLE WHEAT. We are allowed up to 3 grms of sugar per food serving.

Well, I haven't done any exercises yet to-day as I hade some things that I just had to do this morning (like laundry) and then went out shopping. So I will get my butt out of this chair and go and do one of my videos.

Will check in later.

Good Afternoon...

Well, I think that I am getting back into the swing of things. Took my little elderly neighbor lady for a walk yesterday evening and went by myself this morning. When I was being "good" or before the hard (ha-ha) California winter weather set in, I was walking twice a day. In the morning by myself and in the evening
(a little slower pace) with my neighbor.. Felt good to get out again.

Deb: This morning I put a Spaghetti Squash in the oven.. conserving energy by cooking it in "off-peak hours".
At lunch I put some in a dish and sprinkled the Tomato Splash on it and micro'd for a minute. It was very good.
Thanks for letting me know about the TS. I cannot believe you are so close to goal.. you look like a "little peanut" in the picture you attached the other day. What's the deal with Carbolite Bars.. I may have missed a post about them, but when I went shopping (won't say where, it makes you sad) last week they had a display so I bought one.

Quilter: Yes ferrets are illegal in California and Hawaii. Hard to believe.. I have always been afraid of a lot of animals.. but once I was introduced to ferrets (smuggled across the CA/NEV border) through my son, I found out what wonderful pets they are. My little gunea pig "Ms. Piggy" is doing great. Spoiled rotten - anytime she hears a cupboard door or a plastic bag krinkle, she thinks she is getting a treat (yogurt drop) and starts squeaking. Yes I do live within 2 - 3 miles of a Trader Joe's..

I am so thrilled with the "sweet success" that so many people on this board are having. What an inspiration..
This morning I stepped on the scale and was almost 100 lbs lighter..... since it is a digital scale I thought that maybe the battery was getting weak. When I turned it over to check, I noticed a switch that went from Stones/Lbs to KG to Lbs. It was on the wrong setting... . I have a gal who comes in to help with cleaning every other week and Monday was her day, she must have moved it. That would have been losing way to fast and too much for me.

Deb: Are we having a chat this Thursday? If so, what time does Survivor come on EST? We see it at 8pm on the West Coast.

Question for everyone: When you get the feeling that you have to have something sweet... real sweet, what do you have that is legal. It goes beyond that craving for chocolate.. it's just a sweet need that "fruit" won't fulfill. Any ideas!

Gotta fly, break is over!!

GatorGal: That must have been wonderful as a young married couple to be living in SF. Boy you went from one side of the continental US to the other... I've been here all my life and I think it will take a stick of dynamite to get me out. My husband is always looking at alternatives for retirement.. the cost of living is very high here. The biggest thing to give up is the weather.

Have you tried freezing grapes? They seem so much sweeter and take a little longer to eat. They are almost like popsicles.

Thanks to everyone for the info about attaching images...I had tried that and it didn't show up in the preview. I just tried to attach one to this post, so look below to see if it worked! I am so dense sometimes.

Thank you all so much for the information in response to my questions. I can see where carrots are pretty high in sugar (tastes sweet munch munch) but as I love them, I shall treat them as a fruit and have them raw, sparingly, at the end of my meals instead of as a “free food” or a snack. I’m actually laughing my head off because the idea of not having carrots again is causing me to obsess over them, which is quite a change from what I used to obsess over! (Insert long list of sticky gooey foods)

As for agave nectar, I made a trip to the health food store (it’s like a toy store to me) and got a small bottle. I haven’t tried it yet but the label said that it’s a type of sugar that is released into the bloodstream more slowly than glucose. I haven’t tasted it yet. Does anybody know if it has the browning/thickening properties of sugar, like for bbq sauce for example? I was wondering about Grape Nuts too so I’m glad Rapture asked.

BEE125, Welcome! You said, “Everything I "desire" to eat has now been taken away.” I feel the same way, lol! I have been abstinent from refined sugar for over two months but only ahem yesterday put into motion some more aggressive tactics. I notice that I never really crave foods that aren’t high in sugar, or to a lesser degree, bread and potato chip-like things. Even cheese, which I love, I can control. But if there is a box of that particular evil food chocolate in the house, I will not stop eating it until it is gone.

Miss Frog, I have a mildly funny story about white shoes. I went to visit my dearest friend in North Carolina last spring. She greeted me at the airport dressed as Marilyn Monroe! It was hilarious. She said she couldn’t believe the number of dirty looks she got from women as she was walking along. I told her, “It’s not because you’re dressed up as Marilyn Monroe. It’s because you’re wearing white shoes before Memorial Day.” (I’m not that well-versed in the rules, as I live in Hawaii.)

I’ll bet you look hot in your sexy new clothes. I’m excited for ya!

To answer your question, I don’t keep up with TV much....so Baywatch and Real World just zooms right past my consciousness. I’m still dealing with the new 32” monster in the living room after having NO TV in the house for five years.

For any who MIGHT be as TV-unaware as I am and actually missed seeing Jennifer Lopez’s dress, click here for a picture. (http://a169.g.akamaitech.net/7/169/633/10000064763469/oscar.com/images/gallery/redlive/v_red_lopez.jpg). Although I don’t think it’s anything to be ashamed of, I didn’t post the picture directly just in case someone might be offended.

Quilter, thanks for sharing the story about your father-in-law. Inspiring!

Rhoo, if you need motivation, just look at your stats!!! Look how far you’ve come. I would give my left arm to be 143 right now, which actually, should about do the trick. ;) You’re not 200 pounds anymore. Sometimes we lose sight of all we have accomplished so far.

What I’m dealing with right now, is that I “can’t” deal with snacks apparently. So fine. I just cut them out altogether. My recovery is my first priority and I will do anything to reach my goal. I “can’t” seem to get to the gym as often as I’d like. So fine. Working out six days a week is as mandatory as going to work. I have to set boundaries for myself. Those boundaries may change if they aren’t working, but it’s important to define them.

Margaret A, you said, “Where you are now is an okay place to be, but it’s not an okay place to stay.” I liked that a lot. Oh and frozen grapes, yummy, I think I’ll try that.

Fillise, wow NYC! If it weren’t for our perfect weather I would be jealous. ;) It’s great that your sister-in-law is so thoughtful. It seems we hear so many horror stories about family and food that we forget that most people try to be supportive.

Melf, I’ve been working out when I can before eating anything because I’m supposedly burning more fat that way, but I notice that I don’t have as much energy. So that’s okay for 30 minutes but not more (for me). From my marathon training I learned that when you are doing a long run, you should have a carbohydrate based snack at least ½ hour before the run.

amseraphim, it sounds like you are quite motivated. i’ve made exercise my top priority too (usually the hardest choice is finishing my workout or getting to work on time). Just be sure your routine is one that you’ll stick to after the wedding too! ;)

Iamap, wow 50 pounds! That’s a huge accomplishment! I’m proud of you for your emotional accomplishments as well. For me, the weight has been just part of a bigger picture: of my zoning out and not being fully present in my own life!

(eek! I just spilled coffee on my keyboard. Thank goodness I learned to “CNTL+S” before cleaning it up! I’m making absolutely sure that if I’m going to spend my lunch hour posting that my post actually makes it to cyberspace!)

Idblond, On motivation: I’ve said it already this post, but just to have to hammer the point home: If recovery is your first priority, exercise is not optional. Something will always come up that takes time away from your workouts. I don’t skip work and I don’t skip flossing my teeth. I don’t skip my workouts. (At least, that’s my NEW attitude. ;) ) Okay, I step off my soapbox.

You said, “I'm borrowing one of your rules...hope you don't mind...I will do some sort of ab work every morning, if it means rolling out of bed onto the floor. “ LOL! That was hilarious. I couldn’t do much more than roll onto the floor at first but I’m doing what I can! I can’t do 50 situps in a row yet, but I can do 10 situps, rest, do 10 more and then give up and do crunches. So long as I’m making progress.

SuperDebbie, thanks for the tips and info. I have been checking out the recipes and will definitely look at the information board as well. I’m so excited to finally find a way of eating that works! Oh, and I’m so stoked that you are so close to your goal! What a head-spinning experience.

RodeoMom, a big hearty welcome to the forum!

Whew!

Today’s thoughts:

Folks, I’m sick and tired of “trying” so hard and backsliding constantly. Throughout my history, I’ve always felt like I’m hanging on by my fingernails and the slightest breeze will knock me into my old habits. I was doing really well until 7 months ago, when I got a roommate and moved apartments. Well, slowly my new routine deteriorated. Several months into this process, my roommate told me he was really worried because, he said, “You have such a black-and-white mindset that I can easily see you saying f*** it, totally giving up and blowing up to over 200 pounds.” Well, at first I was furious at him for saying that. But soon I saw that I was disturbed because the comment touched my deepest fear: that I don’t have any control over my eating and that all my efforts were really only a temporary fix. (Sigh)

These past 7 months haunt me. Because 7 months is enough time to have reached my goal already. But instead of beating myself up and wallowing in regret, I examined the reasons I had for staying the same weight. I won’t go into detail about what those reasons are, but I’m certain that this time was a necessary stage of my recovery. I had to work some things out before I was ready to progress.

I made a determination this past weekend. Through this board and all you wonderful people I’ve found a new way of eating that, it seems to be, is proven to work. I have other tools at my disposal as well: my 12-step program of recovery through Overeaters Anonymous, which has been a great help to me; a spiffy gym membership right across the street from my office; a bike (actually two ;) ) that I use for transportation whenever I can; and the time and freedom to pursue my fitness goals since I don’t have a husband or kids.

I am fully confident that I’m going to make steady progress from this moment forward. The first few weeks of sticking to my new and more difficult routine will be killer, but after a while, it will just be everyday life. It’s been a day and a half now (of 1 hour per day of exercise and eating three sugarbusters meals with no snacks) and that’s no small accomplishment: after all there have been YEARS of my life when I couldn’t get on track for even one day.

Now, I’m very proud to present the following Tuesday Tip!

Many of us live with others who don’t follow this way of life! They may or not be supportive of our decision, but one thing is for sure. They are not going to keep their favorite foods out of the house just for our sake! In these past 7 months, my roommate has been pretty good but make it plain that he’s not going to suffer for my sake (as he shouldn’t.) For my part, I’ve been much better about being able to tolerate the presence of “trigger” foods in the kitchen. For many months, we have kept most of the junk food in a special cabinet, that happens to be a little difficult to reach, but it’s not so high you have to get a chair to access it. Just a bit of a reach over the counter. Sometime after the ½ a bag of potato chips incident (which was actually my motivation to start following sugarbusters) I hit upon the bright idea of keeping all foods that I don’t eat in that one cabinet. So that’s my tip: If your loved ones must keep snack foods in the house, and you can’t handle it, put all the food in one cupboard and just don’t open it, ever.

Another tip before I forget: Where will you be in 10 years?

This expands upon the comment I made earlier about imagining myself as a smoker at 40. The way I’m going to look when I’m 40 is a huge factor in motivating me now (I’m 27). Because, at 12 and 20 and 23 and even now, I built a large part of my self-esteem on potential: I got all amped up on what I would look like once I lost the weight. Well, I’m starting to grow out of it but not living in the present moment is a huge problem for me. I’m not saying life is over at 40, but that’s always been my “magic” number for uhm, where I am is where I’m gonna be. Starting from the present, where I am now, what I’m doing at this moment is my life. That’s all there is to it. Nothing magic is going to happen between now and then...only steady, persistent and loving care of myself is going to improve my life.

Because I intend to look gosh darn HOT at 40! ;)

Lots of love,

Chris

Hello alll....my what looooong posts!

Just wanted to let you know my PB cookies turned out pretty good. I should have used a touch more of agave nectar so they were a bit sweeter. I'm not going to make them again though b/c I figured there is AT LEAST five g of fat per cookie with the peanut butter and the butter and the peanuts. I think I just have to forget about cookies, legal or not! Actually, if I can find an oatmeal cookie recipe that's legal, I might try that. I'll go check the recipe boards.

Here's an ice cream question....how can I determine how much of the sugar is natural sugar from the milk/cream and how much of the sugar is plain ole' sugar?? Breyers vanilla (regular) has 12 or 15 grams of sugar per half cup. I am figuring a good amount of this must be natural sugar. I had 1/4 cup last night and it was good! I think I will treat myself once or twice a month (just a 1/4 cup, mind you!)

I got new walking sneakers today. I think I'm going to get on the treadmill after this post to test them out! I am sooooo tired but after reading everyone's posts, I feel motivated. Thanks chicks!!!

Pete is at Wal Mart so I asked him to look for Wiley's seasonings. I am determined to get some of it!! I love green beans and am anxious to try them the good ole' southern way!

Pete is starting to plan for his garden. He is like a little kid at Christmas! He absolutely loves to garden and I reap the benefits. My friend was asking what kind of spaghetti sauce (or "gravy" as true Italians say) I use b/c all the sauces she looked at were loaded with sugar. I told her we only eat Pete's canned homemade sauce!!! That's when it hit me how good I have it. And that he is supporting me with this WOE is wonderful. I just wish he would follow it too!

SPARKLE... thanks for the lovely long post. You are so motivating! You are determined. I know you'll do well.

QUILTER...Of course I'd love to see your card!! I'll send you a private message with my address. I'm not sure when I'll get my spring cards done, but I'll let you know when I mail them out :) I am currently reading The Scarlet Feather and am enjoying it so much!! I love Maeve Binchy. That's another reason I want to get on the treadmill.

RHROO...I know how you feel about this blasted weather! It is sooooooo cold here. I am disgusted. I will be so happy when Spring weather gets here. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!

TO ALL...I donated $5 through the amazon link for the boards. I use my credit card online constantly. Amazon is one of the most reputable companies on the internet. I am certain they have the best security available. I don't know how often I will dontate. I def. don't mind contributing b/c this board is so wonderful. If anyone has any suggestions re: donations please post them.

Welcome Rodeo Mom...find bread can be hard. I use Pepperidge Farm 100% stone ground whole wheat. It has less than one gram of sugar. You will probably have to go to a health food store to find 0 sugar bread.

Debelli...I'm sure things will blow over with Lauren soon. It is so tough being a parent sometimes. I give so much credit to good parents!!! Have you met up with VIV yet? I'm curious to know the results of her dad's tests.

amseraphim...I am not a big fan of housecleaning either. I like things to be clean but I am so LAZY!! I usually wait till I can't stand it anymore and then attack!!

FrogLover...I think it was you that said you are enjoying wearing clothes that are a little bit more form fitting now that you've lost. Me too!! I find myself shying away from my big bulky stuff, although it is so comfortable. I LOVE putting on clothes that used to be tight and now fit just perfectly, or even with a little wiggle room!!

I'm off to walk and read. BBL

Hey, it worked. However, I just wanted to make it clear... that Hershey Kiss is waving "Good-Bye" not "Hello".

Thanks for the reminder... frozen grapes do make a good sweet snack.

Hello all!

Thanks for the replies on the GrapeNuts question...those are going in the TRASH!! Good thing I only choked down one bowl.

Super great to hear about all of you success stories!

MargaretA: frozen grapes are going on my snack list...what a fab idea!

Iamap: 50lbs!!! If I wasn't so proud of you, I would be hatefully jealous! Congrats! What a great accomplishment!

SparkleScamp: Move over honey...I think we are in the same boat. Your self-examination will undoubtedly enable you to reach your goals. Just know that you are worth it! And as cliche as it sounds..."nothing taste as good as thin feels" (okay, I don't know first hand, but that's why I am here and that is what I am working towards).

RodeoMom: WELCOME...you'll love it here!

Continued Success!

P.S. Can't remember who posted recipe for Salmon Cakes, but YOWZER! They were great!

Have a great evening!

Evening Everyone!

Not much going on here today, surprised I still have my eyes open, they're stinging because I'm so tired. Def. going to bed early tonight!

I'm so bloated today, I pray I still have a loss tomorrow so I can finally post on the WI board-TOM is due anytime now, so if it's up, I surely know why!

AMSER, how did the fitting go today with the dress? Did they have to take it in any??

RODEO, WELCOME TO THE BOARD! LA gals and FL gals seem to have the most numbers of members here. I can understand why so many LA gal,s due to SB starting there, but as for FL gals, I guess we are just a state with lots of robust women! Anyhow, we're glad to have you aboard! Don't be afraid to ask questions, no matter how stupid to you they sound-we all had questions at the beginning, and we still have questions from time to time, this is a learning experience for all of us. As for the bread, or any food, as long as it's 3 grams of sugar or less, SB rules you can have it. BUT, personally, I don't have breads with any added sugars in it, they are out there, but it's not necessary to be as nutsy as I am. We're glad you'll be around for a while-I can say the same: ) Again, welcome!!!

RHROO, if you have a low-carb store in your area, try to find out if they carry Carbolite soft serve, it's wonderful and very SB legal! Otherwise, why not try Breyers vanilla? Sorry to hear kids aren't feeling too well, hope they are better soon. Healthy Choice, I don't eat, but have in the past, boy, does that give me awful gas! Let us know what the Dr. says about your goal weight! Hey, she may say you're there!!!

MARGARET, Gator gave you a good explanation. Seems it was good for you, I see you have the images up and running. Glad to hear you got some much "kneaded" exercise today!

BEE, Most whole grain flours are okay. Stone ground is what you really want to use, the smaller the grain has been ground up, the higher the GI goes. I think spelt and millet flours may be a little high, but I don't remember exactly, will do some looking around. I use buckwheat, soy, and others, but mostely SGWW flour. I'll let you know what more I find out. One part of BALARTS interview says:

What causes the glycemic index to be higher or lower in bread?

LB: "When you take the grain and mill it you break off the casing on the outside so you are left with the starch inside, and which is then made more readily available to the body.. it comes in quicker, and causes much more rise in the blood sugar and more of a rise in glycerin. When you eat the whole, grain, your body has to break down all that stuff it has got to get through the covering of that grain, and therefore the absorption of the starch and the breakdown of the starch that's in it is slowed down. So instead of getting this big rise in sugar, you are going to get sort of lull, it stays in the gut longer, it goes way down into your intestines, and is subject to bacterial degradation, and a lot of good things come from that. A lot of fatty acids that are supposed to be good. It has been actually scientifically proven. So a lot of this has a lot to do with not just the type of grain it is, but also you know how has it been handled, how has it been used to be put into the food, and the more it stays intact. A bean for instance, has got a big casing on it, your body has to break all that stuff down. Beans if you notice in the book have a low glycemic index. If you took the outside of the bean, and we prepared a meal or flour from that it would be completely different, the index would be much higher, because you have already removed all that stuff the body has to digest. "

Also, 3 grams or less per serving is what the SB rules state. I would think in NZ, you have many SB legal foods. Have you tried the JokAnal products??

ROSALIE, WOW, that's great on the swimming, keep it up!! I'm crossing my fingers for you to have a good WIW! Glad you liked the article about the flours. I'll get it posted on the FIB soon.

VR, that's so sweet of you to take a walk with your neighbor, I'm sure she loves the exercise as well as the company:) Me, little peanut? I was hiding behind others!!! Maybe a peanut in stature, but not weight. I've never had the Carbolite bars, just the soft serve. Why eat them if we are allowed real chocolate. I try to stay away from things with preservatives. Don't they carry Chocolove?? Let me know how the Carbolite bar is. Chat on Thursday, right after Survivor, 9:15pm EST, that's 6:15pm for you-I promise not to tell what happens! Sorry, can't say that I have really wanted anything sweet so badly since I started SB-boy, that's a feat in itself!

SPARKLE, glad to hear you found the agave nectar. They only come in little 8oz bottles, though I wish it was available in bigger ones. It's delicious and can be used in place of honey in any recipe, measure for measure. When I bake with it, I lower my temp by 25 degrees. I love the way you write-where did you get such a gift? Your roommate seems to be a good friend-that's wonderful!! Keep up this wonderful attitude you have, it's so refreshing!!!

OVERCOME, glad to hear the cookies were good. A little more agave nectar goes a long way-it's fun to experiment with it. I had the same question about the ice cream, I'll try to find out if there is an answer to that question. How did the new sneaker testing go tonight?? Thanks for sending in a donation. I am writing Suzanne tonight and will mention it to her. Haven't heard from VIV yet, probably tomorrow or Thursday, meeting Friday late afternoon.

GUESSWHO-chat at 9:15pm EST on Thursday!!!!

RAPTURE, thanks for letting us know the salmon cakes were good! I don't remember who posted it (maybe me), but it's always nice to have someone else make a recipe from the board and enjoy it. Try the crustless spinach quiche, it's wonderful!!!

It's time for bed, I'm pooped! See you all in the morning for WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!! Good luck to all!

Hey Friends!!! Happy Tuesday evening to everyone. Had a good day. Stayed on plan. I love being solidly planted on the wagon. Shouldn’t brag too much lest I falter. I’m so jazzed from this am’s loss and bound and determined to have it be that for WIW. Am excited already about waking up tomorrow. Somebody please slap me . . . this ain’t normal. The best part about the loss is that TOM is lurking right around the corner. Could be here any minute. And I feel bloated and full. So once it gets rolling that minus two will probably stick firm.

FILLISE---I agree with you . . . there is a LOT of HARD WORK going on at this board. It is really inspiring me to do the best job I can do and be true to the program. And true to myself. Congrats on the big loss!!! And the size change. You must feel great. Are you asking yourself, who was that person wearing those other sizes?????

GATOR---Okay, who’s the greatest coach??? I’ll play ignorant. YOu know, I went to college right outide of JC, TN. Maybe I knew him. (or her)

BLOND---So glad to hear you feel back on track. Sometimes we just have to give in and vent. I sure am “the queen” of pity parties . . . at least in our house!!! I think it’s wonderful that you feel like telling the board what’s going on. I LOVE OPEN HONEST COMMUNICATION!!! And that’s certainly what we have here. I also loved your thoughts on the morning. It really is liberating to know that with each day you get to try again. A fresh new start!!!

BEACH---Glad you had a good time in Atlanta. Don’t think twice abou the Olive Garden. Who could resist those bread sticks. I know I sure would have a hard time passing them by.

MARGARET---Boyfriend Steve sounds like he’s got it made. You are really giving him a great meal tonight. I, too, hope he stays on it with you. My dh is trying to do the plan, but he caves pretty easily. Tonight some ritz crackers and peanut butter were calling his name. Poor deprived creature!!!

AMSER---I knew we had a lot in common. I too was not blessed with the cleaning fairy gifts. I hate to clean, but love a clean house. Talk about an exercise in frustration. Tonight dh and I came home and wizbang cleaned up before we let ourselves have dinner. That worked pretty well. Thanks for the kind words. You are too sweet. I’m glad weighing in everyday works for you. I feel exactly the same way. Knowing I have to go get on the scales and knowing that I did really well the previous day makes it easier to get up and out of bed.

DEB---Glad your eyes are better. That can be scarey. Once in college I went to a Pink Floyd concert in Cleveland and left my contacts in all night. Dumb move. The next day my dyds were so swollen. I could hardly open them. My dad grated up white potatoes and made poltuses (spelling?) for each eye. The swelling and redness and pain all went away in about 45 minutes. It was the strangest thing. If I every have eye strain or anything wrong with my eyes I always do that. The only problem now is that on SB I don’t have any of the evil white potatoes in the house!!! Hey, I lost my tazo tea bag you gave me. Bummer, huh? I couldn’t remember the name, so I’m glad you mentioned it to LDBLOND. I’m going to go get some this week. Hey, come for dinner anytime!!! You’re always welcome. What’s Tom Bodette say . . . we’ll leave the light on.

RODEOMOM---WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!! I’m so glad you decided to stop in and stay a while. We really are great fun and there is so much SB knowledge flowing through these people. You’ll just be an expert before you know it. Do you have the SB book? Or have you read it? That’s my suggestion . . . read it and read it again. I still had lots of questions and everybody was great at answering them. Hey, about the bread--BE CAREFUL. Everything that says whole wheat isn’t necessarily that. They kind of tell fibs and you have to look at the ingredients slowly. Somebody turned me on to the Pepperidge Farm 100% Stone Ground Whole Wheat Bread. They have two different kinds of that. And it’s easy to get at the regular grocery store. I also enjoy the Ezekiel Sesame bread. This I buy at the health food store or the natural food store. It’s good, but only when it’s toasted. That’s just my opinion. We all have different amounts to lose and we’ll be there with you every step of the way. Can’t wait to celebrate with you on your first weigh in loss. Are you a fan of the PBR? I love those guys. Watch them every Sunday night if they are on??? Just wondering because of your name.

RHROO---Glad you are doing better. Just hang in there and be patient with yourself. That’s a great idea to ask the dr your questions. I guess I shouldn’t complain about our weather since you still have THAT MUCH snow on the ground. Sister, I feel for you. LOL about Frog’s coconut bra. That might be a good prize for all of us who make it to goal!!!! Then when we have our big SB extravaganza convention, we could all wear them. HA!!! Hey, will you take your SB book with you to the drs?

ROSALIE---Thanks for posting the WW recipe. I may experiement with my sister in law this weekend. They are coming over here for a couple of days and she loves being in the kitchen. Your timing is PERFECT!!!

VR---Glad to hear from you!!! Where you been, Girl??? I still don’t understand why ferrets are illegal. Seems silly to me. They certainly don’t look dangerous. Good to know that your new “little pumpkin” is doing well. That’s funny how they come up with all these really smart things. Many years ago we had Maddie enrolled
