Hi Jennie. How are you? I am well and still full of enthusiasm for my quest to get fit and slim. I must admit talking to people who share the same problems is great and is really helping to keep me on the straight and narrows. How are you loosing weight? Are you following a specific plan or just being sensible? I have not made a target yet as it seems to far away. Am doing half a stone at a time and have lost 3lb so am on my way to my first target. Hope to hear from you soon

Hello Madcow! Congarats on your 3 lb loss! I am following the South Beach Diet and so far have lost 4 lbs on it. I did it once before, but I didn't even last 2 days because family came into town and I lost my resolve completely, but I have to do better this time! My husband and I just lost a baby a couple of weeks ago and we had been trying for so long to get pregnant, so I figure maybe if I lose some weight it will help my fertililty. We'll see.Talk to you later. Oh and what's the equivalent of a stone in pounds? I hear that term bounced around alot, but I'm not quite sure how much weight it refers to.

Hi all,

I am also new and the posts I wrote were also lost in the crash. I am 5' 1" and I want to lose 40 lbs. At my height every pound looks like 5. LOL. I have been trying to be aware of what is going in my mouth since the 1st. It's amazing how I can eat without even thinking about it. I am trying to do some kind of exercise each day (semi-successfully) and trying my best to go snack after dinner. When I get tired at night but I have work to do I get ravenous. I am also trying to drink enough water every day. I have lost 3 lbs. so far so I am encouraged but need support to carry on. I am in a Master's program and start back to class on Saturday. Yuck! This is my last semester, thank goodness, so I've just got to get through it. Working full-time and going staying up late studying and reading get me to that ravenous place I mentioned above. Help me keep on track!

Welcome Peachyanne, Here's some motivation for you: "Graduation pictures last forevor." You can do it. Steer clear of temptation as much as you can. At the grocery usually around the chips aisles they have little individual servings of nuts, all different kinds. Buy some of those and throw 1 in your purse everyday so when cravings hit you don't head to the vending machines and buy chips or candy! Boy have I been there! Also, on phase 1 you can have 75 calories of sugary treats a day. In the grocery they have mini Atkins candy bars(they are about 3-4 bites). I buy those they're 120 calories so I save mine up and every other day (If I feel I need a candy bar) I eat one. So far in 5 days I've lost 4 lbs so I don't think saving those calories up for the next day hurts. Good Luck!

Jennie- I'm like you.. 5'5 228lbs, needing to lose a whole bunch. I've got a large frame so I'd be happy to lose to about 160 or so... I've set my mind to it and I'm going to do it. :smug: It's nice to be able to say that and mean it. I've found the hardest thing to do is say I'm going to do it and actually follow through. This time is different for some reason. Maybe because now I have a 10 month old little boy who I want to grow up healthy and strong... I guess I'm doing it for him. Keep in touch! :balloons:

Hi Ladies,
how are you doing, Madcow we know each other from your thread before the big crash.

How are you all doing? I just wrote this big reply to all of you and then it would not post it and now it is gone, well, this happens once in a while to me and I am a bit mad about it, so I started this yahoo group a week ago and I am inviting all of you to join it. (just copy and paste the link in your browser and click ok, it will take you to the sign up site http://health.*************.com/group/InternationalGirlsClub/join )

Anyway, a bit about myself, I am 32, married, three children, german, married to an American, living in Italy (military) I started the new year with 212 lb and I am down to 208, so that's a good start. I did not want to use the scale this time, but just go by the way my clothes fit, but that just takes to long, I need quicker confirmation, that what I am doing is working. So my first goal is still to get from my size 16 jeans in a size 14, I would love to go all the way to a size 7, but I am not looking that far ahead.

I hope to see you in the yahoo group again

I've thought about the clothes issue... A lot of the clothes I have are big in some areas (legs and such) and tighter in others... My goal is to get to a size 12 or so... I'm now in a 20 - some things I wear an 18- So together with watching the scale and clothes.. I think I'll strike a happy medium.

LLale: How old are your children? I have a 10 month old.. he is the apple of my eye.. except we were up all night last night with teething problems.. he's cutting his first top tooth.. and I think its hurting him more than his bottom ones... so we now have 2 1/2 teeth! Anyway, good luck - you sound like your goals are very attainable!

Hey Paragoddess,
my children are 9, 6 and 2, two boys and then a girl. Now that you mention it........ remember all those sleepless nights.... i must say i don't miss them.....

When my oldest son was that age, my hubby had to go for 4 month to another country (he is military) anyway, I remember I was soooo bored all day long so I would go in the morning and in the afternoon for walks. I did not like to cook just for me, and I never went and ate out and by the time he came home I went from a size 12 to a size 7 (really tight but i fit into a size 7) now that was 8 years ago, I still remember how easy it was back then.... I hope that it will be easy this time too.

Catch you later

Welcome Paragoddess and Llalle.
Paragoddess, I think it's great that you're trying to lose weight to be a good role model for your son. It saddens me when I see really overweight parents with small really overweight children. You know when that happens that the parents don't know how to cook/excersize healthily. I just had my first pregnancy in many years of trying, but unfortunately, I lost the baby a month after I found out. So I am on a quest to lose weight to help my fertility and so that when I do get pregnant, there will be less complications. You live in Alabama huh, that's cool. My hubby's g'pa lives in Mobile. My Lord, can that man make some good fried fish and jambalaya. Mmm Mmm Mmm :)

Hi Llalle, A military wife huh. I think that would be cool to get to live all over the place. My mom and 2 uncles got to move all over the place with my grandparents(my grandpa was USAF), and they all say that they wouldn't trade the experience for anything. My hubby was an air force brat too. His dads stations took him to live everywhere including Sousterberg (sp?), Holland (I guess it's Netherlands now). He wants us to end up there eventually. He feels like it's home since he spent his junior high/early high school years there. I was in Pisa in '95. When I was there tourists weren't allowed in the tower. Are they now?

Hey Peachyanne, hang in there.

And Madcow, where are you? You are our threadstarter, we miss you!

We can do it ladies. There is no time like the present.

Llalle

Hi Jennie527,
Congrats on your weightloss so far!

Most of the time I really enjoy being a military wife, but it has it's drawbacks.... in July my hubby has to go to Korea for a year alone.... but overall, it is fun and you get to see so many things and meet so many different people and another plus is the schools our kids go to. Everybody gets along with each other.... no only white kids club, only mexicans or only black kids. We are all in the same boat and all hang out together. I really like it and my children grow up without really noticing that some people look different than others. We/they are all the same.

Sousterberg is closed by now, everybody loved it though.... I have relatives close to it and one of the ladies here is from there. She met her husband a long time ago there. I love Holland.... spend many summers there.

I live about 10 minutes with the car from the leaning tower in pisa, yes you can go back up on the tower but they charge you 15 Euro for it (almost 20 bucks) and children unter 12 are not allowed to go up. During the summer month there is a long wait for people to get up there since they only let a few people at a time go up.

BTW, I had miscarriage before I got pregnat with my first and another before I got pregnat with my second. Very devistating, but I learned a lot because of it too. You are right, get your weight under control and live a healthy life and everything will work out fine. Also if you change you life to a healtier life style you will reach your goal (or at least you will find a comfortable weight close to your goal weight.) Just stick to your plan and learn from your mistakes. And adjust your plans as you learn more about yourself.

Have a good one

Hi Jennie

Firstly apologies for the lack of posting. Doesn't time fly when you are having fun. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your baby. It must be a difficult time for you. How long have you been trying? I tried for 13months for my son but it seemed like an eternity so I do know what you are going through. Try to remain positive and I am sure in time things will happen for you as they have happened for me.

Congrats on the 4lb lost that is amazing. Keep up the good work. I will post again soon.

Hi Peachyann

How are you ok I hope. I am sorry I have not posted sooner but things here are very hectic. Why is it so hard to drink water. I have been quite successful with it. It is so hard. I love cherry coke so water does taste slightly different. I lost 3lb the first week and 1lb last week so I am quite pleased with myself. I have also joined a gym and have been twice this week and have done one of my husbands classes. He is a keep fit instructor. So far so good. Keep me posted on how you are doing. It is nice to hear from everyone.

Be good

Hi Chequitagirl Firstly welcome to this "our thread". It is strange that a few of us are all around the same weight! Hey not for long eh. I think we should all log our weights and losses once a week then we can see how much we have lost as a group. Anyone interested. I normally weigh on Monday's. I am happy to collate the figures if you like. Let me know if you are interested. I think we have probably already lost over a stone. Good going eh? It is nice that you are thinking about your daughters. I have a son of 2 and know I have to lose weight to keep up with him. He is my inspiration.

Hope to hear from you soon

Hi everyone,

You are all so inspiring and encouraging! Thanks!

Jennie, I love that another shorter girl is in the group. Five pounds looks like ten on us. I, too, miscarried my first pregnancy. It was devastating, but I then had 3 successful pregnancies. My doctor told me that 20-25% of preganancies end in miscarriage. It is so very hard. My thoughts are with you, but things will turn around. My kids are now 21, 20 and 16 (on Tuesday). I can''t believe how fast the time has gone.

I started paying attention to what goes in my mouth January 2. I'm hoping if I don't call it a diet I'll stick with it. I've lost 3 lbs, not much but a start. I am hoping to lose 6 by the first of next month. I am really trying to keep my goals reachable. My will power stinks, but perserverance pays off. I hope to be down 20 lbs by my birthday in June when I will be 50. Oh my gosh, half a century.

Thank you all for your positive attitudes and encouragement, it really does help!

Hey everybody our thread is growing! Hooray! :cb:

How is everyone today? I hope well. The scale went down a pound for me today after a one pound gain one day and 2 days of plateuing (sp?); that was a welcome sight. I started adding in exercise yesterday. I figured I wasn't gonna start everything at once, so I started the diet the first week and added in exercise the next. I burn-out on things too easy and I didn't want to do that this time.

I found this really cool software that you can download for free and try-out for a couple weeks before you decide if you want to purchase it (it's not expensive only a one-time fee of $9.95). After trying it out I decided that it was definately worth it to help keep me on the right track. The nice thing is it doesn't matter what diet (if any) you follow all of them work! Take a look at it and tell me what you think.

What exactly does weight commander do? My scale was down 2 lbs yesterday from the previous Sunday. I didn't do a good job drinking my water Saturday so that may have made some difference...

Anyone have any suggestions for good exercise tapes? I love to walk outside but when its chilly I don't like to take the baby out.. and my husband is a firefighter so he's at work every 3rd day which means I can't leave the baby with him and go... so I'm looking for an alternate to walking outside and I figured exercise videos are probably the next best thing. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a diet buddy. I just cancelled my membership to "Change One" today. It is a very good program but I decided that I can't afford to spend more money on losing this weight. I need to lose 40 lbs desperately and can't seem to stick to it. I am going to start counting my calories, starting at 1500 per day. I have been working out at the gym for 10 months and have not lost one pound. It's getting harder and harder to go(and spend the money).

Hi debbiejarrell,
last january I started to go to the gym 5 times a week at least. I did weights for an 1 hour 3 times a week and cardio 45 minutes 5 times a week by june I weight 20 lb more. then i stopped going... but now I am back on track, eating less (even the days I go to the gym) and I am back in the gym.... first big goal is to get rid of the weight I had gained. My mistake was.... I worked out to much that I ate a lot more..

well later more

Good morning ladies, and welcome chequitagirl and debbie!
My morning weigh-in kept me at 224 which is a 4 pound loss for this week. Hooray!

Here's a tip. If any if you are doing low-carb and need a dessert. Make a pie crust using ground pecans, butter to moisten, and a little artificial sweetener. Bake at 350 for around 10 min. Then make any flavor of sugar-free gelatin (lg box or 2 small boxes) you prefer, using only half the water called for while preparing. While still hot mix with either 16 oz of light cream cheese or ricotta cheese Put in fridge until firm, remix after chilling if necessary, and fill pie crust. MMmmmm. If you use lime jell-o it tastes like key lime pie! You could even make it and eat w/out the crust. I know this sounds like an indulgence, and I guess it kind of is, but I have eaten a piece of this everyday this week, and still managed to lose 4 lbs. So, eat away!
Well, I am gonna go workout now. Talk to you guys later! :tread:

Hey everybody :goodvibes

Chequitagirl, A whole size in clothes! :bravo:

Paragoddess, 2 pounds is nothing to sneeze at! Envision what a 1 pound steak looks like, now throw another one exactly like it on top. That is how much weight you've lost! Two one-pound steaks. Now, don't you feel better. Sometimes you just gotta put things in perspective!

I am still on phase one of the south beach diet which you stay on a couple weeks and rapidly lose weight. Then you switch to phase 2 (you stay on this till you reach goal) where weight loss evens out to around 2 lbs a week. After you reach goal you go to phase 3 to maintain. It has to be the easiest diet I've ever seen it's not low-fat or low-carb. If you want to read about it go to www.prevention.com and type south beach diet into their search engine. This diet along with www.weightcommander.com is the reason for my success, but then again the same things don't work for everyone!

Talk to everyone later.

Wow, y'all are so inspiring! It is so awesome that you are all losing weight. Chequitagirl, how awesome to be down a whole size. I’m afraid that my clothes are so snug right now that it will take a while to notice a difference. I haven’t weighed in a few days because I went to a birthday dinner on Sunday and had my daughter’s birthday ( for dinner, again) on Monday. I didn’t lose it entirely, I got zucchini and squash instead of baked potato for my side, but I are more that usual. Today, I was under the weather and stayed home so I decided to wait until tomorrow to weigh in. My goal is to just keep plugging along, and not get discouraged. I really want to get to a healthier weight by June when I turn 50. Oh my gosh, half a century, and I don’t feel any older that 28.LOL.

Everyone keep up the good work. You are all awesome! Have a wonderful evening.

I find it hard to stick to my guns every time I eat out! When we do go, I like to go to a steakhouse where I know I can get a big steak salad, or something like that!

My cat is really pissed off at me because I won't let him in the basement to play. He keeps pawing at the door! I can't let him down there though because we have 2 maybe 3 racoons down there! The top must have come off the chimney to the old furnace and they got in that way! They hang out in the cieling between the basement and first floor and in the old furnace closet. Now we keep the doors to it tied shut so they can't get out, but now some of the cieling tiles are starting to loosen where they've been sleeping! Soon they'll be in the basement too! I put a live animal trap in the closet with pb on bread and apples, but they always manage to get in, eat the food, and get out! The little :censored: ! I saw one yesterday though, in the closet, and it was sooooo cute. Too bad they'll rip your :censored: finger off though if you get too close!

Oh well, talk to you guys later. Keep up the good work!

Hi Debbiejarell

How are you doing? Look at this thread. It is great. Welcome to you. Why is it all so hard. I note with interest your comments about gym and weight. My husband is a fitness instructor and he says the best thing to do is to monitor your measurements. As muscle is heavier than fat it is common for someone to work out and put on weight, what you have to remember though is a toned person weighing 11stone looks much better than someone of 11stone who is not toned. I would suggest weighing maybe once a month but do your measurements every fortnight, I bet you will see a vast improvement. Also all those lost inches will change your body shape tremendously. See how you get on and let me know

Hello to everyone I am a new member.I found this site and I think it is great.I just started my new way of life 2 days ago.I call it that because I finally figured it out.You can lose weight on a diet but the diet always ends.If you change you eating habbits it can last a life time.I am just watchig everything I eat. This is my third day and I already feel so much better.I have not started an exersize program because I just don't have the time.I know that just sounds like an crock but it is true.I work full time and have 3 kids, there is just not enough time in the day.It looks like you are all doing great on your plans.I hope mine works for me I will keep you all posted.Every time I type a word on her there is a letter missing.Mabey I need a new key board.Just overlook the missing letters lol.

Welcome Blue! I have been doing all right. I haven't lost any weight so far the last 7 days, but I know that it is normal to have these kinds of periods in weight loss. I hope everyone is doing well. I probably won't be posting everyday just because I am really busy doing paperwork to get into school by April.

Hey everybody! I know that I have been gone for a little while (doing paperwork for school), but that doesn't mean everyone else can't post! J/K I was expecting to have a ton of catching up to do and lots of congratulations to give! COME BACK!
Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Jennie

You are not the only one who has not been around much lately. I have been off for a while. My brother in law passed away 29.1.04 and things here have been hard. He had an accident in London and we travelled up to see him but unfortunatley he did not recover, we were there with him when he died and it was very very sad. Needless to say the diet went out the window but we did not eat at all for 3 days. We had his funeral today which again was very moving. I have been off work for 2 weeks but have to go back tomorrow. Hopefully getting back into some routine will help. No gym for a fortnight and not really interested in eating, it was more a chore than an enjoyable pastime. Well off now speak to you all again soon. Please write soon as I need more support now than ever before. I am going to do it for Rick, i thought maybe a sponsored slim and donate the proceeds to the unit in the hospital where he passed away. What do you think?

I'm so sorry to hear that Madcow. What a horrible time you have had. No one would blame you for taking a hiatus from your get slim plan. I think that a donation plan would be fantastic. Something like for every half a stone you lose people donate "X" Pounds to the hospital or even just a charity that he might have been interested in giving money to. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Remember the good times to help you cope.
