This thread is a spring challenge that is similar to the Discover Health New Body Challenge. It runs from January 1st to March 31st. Some of us in the 300+ Forum need accountablity. This challenge is about setting goals and accountability. Some of us are officially or unofficially participating in the New Body Challenge. So me of us are doing are our thing.

The basics of the New Body Challenge is being aware of your condition, facing it, setting goals, formulating plans, making the commitment to improve/grow/change, and being accountable to those plans. Set your goals and pick the exercise plan, the food plan and method of accountability that works for you. Post your goals and post as often as you need to keep you motivated.

If you're not a regular poster on the 300+ forum, you're welcome to join us on the regular threads and get to know the group.

In case our challenge thread doesn't come back, I started a new one. Does everyone remember their goals and plan? I'll have to rethink mine and try to recreate!

I've had three really great food days thanks to the challenge. I've journalled everything faithfully and DH is willingly getting back to South Beach. I've exercised every day according to my plans. Thank goodness I had that part done separately. :D I walked the dog for the first time in a month tonight. Contrary to the doctor's opinion, I'm not ready for full time walking. :( I'll try again in a couple of days.

Hope that everyone else is doing well!

Hey everyone :)

Checking in! I've weighed and measured, pictures are taken, and I'm on the move.

I commit to exercising 5 days a week.
I commit to following a healthy plan of eating.
I commit to drinking a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day.

So, short of any wisecracks about how I probably should be committed ;), I'm ready to go and have been doing well. I've exercised 3 days this week and have cut the processed sugars to a minimum. :)

Looks like the past few days on 3FC have been a bit rough...

I know I have my goals for this 12 week challenge written down somewhere, so I'll find them and repost.

In the meantime I was going to go the Discovery Weigh in - but since I don't want to spend my whole day in line, I'm just going to report my numbers here:

Weight 261.4
BMI 48.1%

Goal Weight - 237
I'm not going to set a goal BMI - I just want to see it LOWER.

Let's kick some butt ladies!!!!

Hi ladies!

Welcome back Pam!

I wimped out on the official weigh-in too because of the lines. But I did my own. I'm starting out at 250 per my scales at home. I've done my measurements so I can track those too.

My goal for the three months is to:

1. Commit to a healthier lifestyle and stick to that commitment.
2. I want to be able to spin for 60 minutes a session by the end.
3. I want to be able to start using 10 lb weights.

My commitment is:

1. I will commit to tracking the good things I've done for my body, not just what the scale says.
2. I commit to planning each week and tracking each week so that I'm aware and that its a priority in my life.
3. I commit to an activity based lifestyle which includes housework, yardwork, exercise, anything that is not sedentary.
4. I commit that no matter what the scale says - I WILL NOT GIVE UP!

To recap the week - it was a great one. I'm getting back into exercise and even have walked the dog a few times. I'll start pushing my bod a little harder this week. I'll be back to full stamina soon.

I bought a 10 lb weight ball yesterday. I plan to use it to help with the back/torso/ab muscles. I also thought it was something I could get DH to use to help with his upper body. He's getting soft and his arms and shoulders hurt all the time. I also bought an 18 lb curl bar for us to use. I am determined to attack that underarm flab.

We also had a good food week. DH is even still motivated since we had good food and he's lost 3 lbs. Planning and having it on hand is key.

I'll make my plans for this next week later today.

Have a great Sunday!

Hey everyone :)

The week in review...

I exercised 5 days!
I need to log my water intake, because it just isn't coming easily. The more stressed I am, the less water I seem to drink. How weird is that?!
Healthy eating plan, I did pretty well there. I think I need to add a food journal to my commitment. I used to use DietPower and was absolutely in love with it. This would be a good time to start it up again. :)

I commit to journaling what I eat.
I commit to drinking a minimum of 66oz of water a day.

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi. I'm doing a good job of making up for 6 days of restuarants last week - and the 1.4 pounds I gained is gone.

My eating has been okay, I've been a little over the past couple days, but I'm working on that. And I'm seeing the evil trainer 4x this week as usual so I know he'll whip my butt back into the swing of things.

So I found my goals for the 12 week challenge and here they are:

1. Cardio 4x a week, at least 30min
2. Swimming 2x a month, 1 mile
3. Pilates 2x a week, 30 minutes
4. Weight Training 4x a week, minimum 30min@
5. Plank - 2min 01/31/04 (a bet with the Evil Trainer)
6. Jump Rope - 20min 02/29/04
7. Swimming - 1mile/60min or less - 03/31/04
8. Weight Loss of 25 pounds (bringing me to 237)
9. BMI Loss - don't care how much, just a loss
10. Running - 1 mile loop with trainer -
- by 2/14 run the entire mile with a 5 minute rest at the halfway mark.
- by 4/1 run the entire mile with no rest

Have a great evening ladies!

Hi ladies!

I posted my starting pic over on the pictures thread yesterday.

Today was a good day. I kept food within plan - no mindless snacking - and kept exercise on plan. I was able to walk the dog and do 16 minutes on the spinner. This morning I did all my toning and stretching. This feels great to be focused!

Pam - Great pics! You've done an awesome job. Looks like the evil trainer has worked your butt off!

Let's have a great day tomorrow!

Well, I managed to stay on track today....for just about the first time this month. So I'm pretty darn happy about that! And thanks for the encouraging words over the pics - it really helps me stay focused. :D

Plan for tomorrow:
1650 calories or less
60 minutes with the Evil Trainer (he missed me so when I was out of town)
Water, water, water
No eating after 8pm and no sweets

Terri - Do I remember right that you are doing the South Beach Diet? How's that working out? I need some kind of change, and I'm thinking of trying that diet...

Have a great evening!

Bruissen: You are and have been doing such a wonderful job. I took a peek at the pics and there really is "proof in pictures". You go girl! I was a tad confused by you losing 97 pounds since October, but I went back and looked at when you first visited and see that that 2003 should have been 2002 on your website. I was going to ask if you had some miracle way of getting the weight off, but I see it is just hard, hard, diligent work. Good job! :D Thanks for adding your profile to the Bio page. Hope one of these days you'll come join us on our discussion threads again.

Hi ladies!

Just checking in with the daily report. I sort of laid in bed being lazy this morning. I did feel guilty and get the medicine ball and work with that for a bit. That was my one morning a week to lay in bed instead of get up and workout. I got home later than usual but I still got out to walk the dog. I also did some time on the spinner as well. Now, I'm relaxing! Food was good too.

Pam - Yes, I'm following the South Beach plan along with Weight Watchers. I really like it. We just have trouble coming up with ideas for lunch but otherwise we do okay with planning all other meals and stay satisfied. Because DH has diabetes and high triglycerides which this style is eating is geared towards improving. After five years of being on meds for both with little improvement, we saw drastic improvement in both in a short time. The main thing is significantly reducing intake of high-glycemic foods. You know...the good stuff!

Well, I've had two good days now, hoping I can keep it up! The scale isn't really moving, but I know that's because TOMs arrival is immenent. :(

Terri - Thanks for the info on SBD. I've been chatting with the Evil Trainer about doing another "shock and awe" campaign, and he's going to be trying the Fat Flush diet, and I'm thinking of doing it with him. I'm going to read a bit more about it and then decide. I just feel like I've been stuck since Thanksgiving, and I need a little something to get me moving again...

Hi gang,

Another good day. This is the most focused, driven towards being OP as I've been in a long time. Too bad the scale isn't budging an ounce!! But TOM has arrived so I'll keep being driven and be patient.

I got in 20 minutes of aerobic video this morning, dog walk this evening, and 21 minutes on the spinner. Woohoo! I allowed my food today to keep being crazed. I also figure that some days I just need to allow myself to eat more so that tomorrow I don't throw in the towel.

Pam - I've not heard much about the fat flush diet. Sounds like you're body has adjusted to all that exercise and rewarding you with PLATEAU! :fr: Those are so frustrating. Something that WW'ers try to break plateaus is to vary the number of points (or calories) taken in during a day. Or to increase their calories to the higher end of the their range and be sure to eat enough to cover for the exercise. Good luck breaking through.

brunissen
01-16-2004, 10:52 AM
I'd really like to say that I'm plateauing, but I honestly don't think that's it....I think I just overloaded myself (too much food, not enough exercise) from thanksgiving through my trip last week....But I'm back in the swing of things now!

The Fat Flush Plan kind of looks like SBD, only the first 2 week phase is WAY more strict because you are working on detoxifying your system. Right now that's what I think I need to do, and I figure I can take anything for 2 weeks. Some of it's recommendations are things my Chiropractor has had me doing for years now (not that I am good about doing them regularly), and they've helped me in the past, so I figure I'll give it a shot. I'm planning on starting Sunday, so I'll let you know through the week how it goes.

On the plus side I did manage to drop 2 pounds of water I've been dragging around - and it's always nice to see the scale number go down no matter the reason!

Happy Friday Chickies!

brunissen 2 lbs. off the scale is definately a wonderful 2 lbs. off no matter where it came from, because i promise you that same 2 lbs of water if retained will make the scales go back up.

Hi ladies!

How was everyone's weekend? I did fairly well with food. Weekends are my downfall but I don't think I did anything that horrible as have done in the past.

I did get on the spinner for 30 minutes on Saturday but was lazy yesterday. I am finding that as I get back into the "regular" mode of exercise, I am building my ability to endure more reps or minutes. At the beginning of the challenge, it was indeed a challenge to do 12 reps with the 8 lb weights. I was only doing 8 at a time. I can now do all 12 without my arms falling off. This week, I am going to add a second set of 4 reps.

I'm off to do some time on the spinner this AM since I will be getting home late tonight. I'll have that challenge this week so I'm moving some of my aerobic work to the morning. Not my favorite time for being that awake but I'll try not to whine too much.

Have a great Monday and let's really kick butt on this challenge this week. January is already on the downhill slide.

Morning Ladies....

I did okay this weekend - and I'm .8 pounds away from the 100 pound mark as of this morning! YAY!!!!!

I started the Fat Flush Plan yesterday. I think it will be an okay plan to follow for a few weeks - don't know that it's something that I could do to lose the next 95 pounds tho. And of course it doesn't help that the day I started it TOM came calling *blech* I'm seeing the Evil Trainer tonight, so I think I'm going to just have him stretch me - maybe that'll make me feel better.

.8 ! Get that evil trainer to whip that off!!

I did well with food yesterday and got in 20 minutes on the spinner last night. I had a good crank going aiming for 30 minutes then DH is yelling downstairs that dinner is ready. His timing sucks.

This morning I made myself stick it through 20 mintues on the airdyne. That machine is a beast!

I have to admit that I feel great!

Have a good one! Kick A$$!

How is everyone's week going? As of today I'm trying to get back in the habit of going to the gym at lunch to get my cardio in - 35 minutes on the Elliptical today, and I had forgotten how good I feel afterwards!

I see the Evil Trainer tonight, so I get to tell him I finally broke the 100-pound mark - I think he's going to be *very* pleased!

Hi Pam!

Yesterday was a bad food day and no exercise. My brother and I worked until 2 then made a 6 hour drive to the family visitation of my nephews FIL who had passed away on the weekend. So I did nothing this morning as well. I will get back in gear tonight. The scale finally budged and I'd down the three pounds I gained over the holiday and my month off.

:bravo: :dancer: Congrats on hitting that 100-pound mark. I am sooooo thrilled for you because I know you've worked so hard for that accomplishment.

Where the crap is everyone else? This is a three month challenge so all you lurkers get your butt in here and don't give up! Or get in here and get started. :drill:

Sounds like you had a pretty rotten day Terri.... :( But at least the scale moved down for you - so it was a bit of happy in the day.

Okay, so I told the Evil Trainer last night about the 100-pounds - needless to say, he was VERY pleased and oroud. And he decided that we needed to take a picture of me holding 100 pounds (2 50-pound barbells) - and let me tell you - those things are HEAVY! It really made me realize what I was carrying around! Once I get the pic, I'll post it on my web page.

And then to really "celebrate" I decided I wanted to see if I could do 5 reps of 810 pounds on the leg press (720 was my previous best). ET thought it sounded like a fine game, so he worked me up from 90 pounds to 810 90-180 pounds at a time. And I did it! :strong:

So I'm feeling all charged up about the next half of the weight loss...

Pam - I love the picture of your dog!  That's pretty awesome about your progress with the weights.

I made up this evening for being tired this morning. I walked the dog and then did 20 minutes on the spinner. I'm cranking the tension so I'm working harder.

The weekend is almost upon us and that is where I usually fall on my face. I have our company holiday party on Saturday night. I'll have to get in lots of activity around the house and exercise in to make up for the food. Maybe I will start tomorrow!

Have a good Friday!

Terri - Angus (my dog) is a handsome devil isn't he??? I was trying to snap a pic of him howling but he closed his mouth just as I took the pic....I figured since he's now a year old, it was time to update my avatar with a new pic of him :D

I also dread the weekends diet-wise....too much time on my hands and too much of a habit for me to sit around and eat :ink: I'm seeing the Evil Trainer tonight, and then tomorrow I'm planning on some cardio and swimming, and Sunday I'm going to do some cardio and Pilates. Hopefully that, and shopping tomorrow will be enough to keep me from sitting around stuffing my pie hole.

Good Luck on your weekend, and keep kicking A$$!

I went to weigh-in this morning at WW. Down 2.6!

I drug DH to the Y this morning to tour the facilities. I'm thinking about joining - what intrigues me is the free trainer and their computer system that the trainer puts in a custom program that all the machines are attached to. Then each machine will tell you how many reps/sets or time and will give feedback on performance. In the back of my mind, I feel that I need to step it up so that I can speed up the weight loss a little bit. I don't want to backslide. Still pondering.

I just did 23 minutes on the spinner. That will be it for the day. I need to go get ready for our party tonight. Tomorrow I will do more.

Have a kick a$$ weekend!

Just a reminder for all you lurkers - and we know that you're there - its not too late to jump in here with your goals and plans for a healthier you!

I'm ready! Today is Day 2 of Phase 1/South Beach Diet and I'm feeling fine! I'm going to post my daily goals and will report each night the acheivement (or not) of said goals. Ultimately, I would like to lose 116 lbs. Today's weight is 266. Goal weight 150. This will be acheived by a combination of the following:

1. Following the South Beach Diet. (low carb)
2. Daily exercise. At least 30 minutes.
3. At least 64 oz water daily.
4. Multivitamins daily.

That's it for now, I'm starting simple. I'll be back when I've accomplished all of the above.

Hey everyone :)

Just a quick dropping in. This last week was painfully busy, but I kept up three visits to Curves. Since I've been doing walking for the other two days of exercise every week and my knee is being tough to deal with right now, I'm trying to figure out what else to do. Any suggestions? I need something to do twice a week for 30 minutes that isn't going to put pressure on my knee.

I'm having trouble getting my food journaling going. This week I'm really going to concentrate on that aspect. When I journal, I lose weight. No two ways around it.

My last improvement goal was to work on drinking more water. I started carrying my personal Brita bottle again, and I've been making sure it is full every time I get into the car. Been a lot more successful getting it all down that way since with the new jobs I have twice the commute time.

Got to run now! (Wish I was running for real! One day, one day...)

As much as I tried to avoid it, I made myself exercise this afternoon. I was browsing out on the DHC Body Challenge website and ran across a section about getting into the fat burning mode. It said that the first 15 minutes of cardio are burning sugars and that your body doesn't get into burning fat until after that point. And for maximum fat burn, you need to do 30-60 minutes beyond that first 15. That might be an explanation about why my losses have been slow - I'm not getting far enough into fat burning.

So, I got out my "Cycling Switzerland" video and got on the spinner. I did two very intense segments for a total of 40 minutes. Before, I wasn't really getting into sweat mode and today I definitely did. Then I got out the "Winsor Pilates for Abs" DVD. WOWSER! I did a fair amount but am defintely a long way from mastering that. I was able to do the roll ups at the beginning but not the ones in the end (charley horses in your abs are not fun :fr: ) But I loved it and I feel tremendous. When I master the ab pilates, I'll have to try some of the others.

I think I showed myself with all the stuff I've got, that I don't need to pay for the gym. I think I'll save the money for vacation.

Welcome to the challenge Kat! I know you can kick butt once you get focused!

Andria - Hmm, knee problems. I'm not sure what is best other than swimming. It sure is frustrating working through injuries. Take it easy but don't give up!

Oops, DH has dinner ready. Have a great Sunday evening!

1. Following the South Beach Diet. (low carb) done!
2. Daily exercise. At least 30 minutes. Cardio x30 min, abs: 10x10 different crunches!
3. At least 64 oz water daily. Gotta be twice that!
4. Multivitamins daily. A fistful!

I'm adding the following goals for tonight, since I'm working: Stairs only! No elevators! (I hope I get called to the 2nd floor first...gotta ease up to the 4th floor!)

I just have to say that today is the FIRST day in a long time that I have met all my goals! I've even prepared a snack for work...tuna salad with veggie dippers. (celery, yellow pepper, radishes)

I'm doing it!

I guess I had some things bothering me yesterday and unfortunately I slipped into my old habits of bingeing/purging to deal with them. :( But after much thought I figured out what was eating at me, and this morning I took care of that issue, so I'm hoping today I'll be free from the crazies that I feel when I'm bingeing/purging.

We had about 6-8" of snow last tonight, today is going to be a beautiful, sunny, warm (34 degrees) day, and I'm NOT going to dwell on yesterday, I'm just going to get back on the wagon and move forward.

Tonight, I did 30 minutes cardio. Its snowing tonight so no outside walking. I did do 13 minutes on the treadmill (had to go pee) then finished off my time on the airdyne. I know that thing is great exercise but its a killer mentally.

Kat - taking the stairs at work does count as exercise!! Good job!

The airdyne is a stationary bike that has a big fan for a wheel. It has arms as well as pedals for the total body workout. Pushing that big fan creates a lot of resistance.

We have snow this morning too so I had to skip exercise so I can hit the road early.

Okay, I was a wimp last night. I didn't get home as early as I'd had planned from work and my back hurt so I didn't do anything. But food was okay. Not enough water though.

This morning, I got up and did 20 minutes on the airdyne. I'm making progress because I didn't whine through it or hate it. I'll improve my food and get more water in today. Tonight, I'll do some time on the treadmill if my foot is willing and then a session on the spinner. This fat is going to get off me if it kills me!!

Pam - Are you out of town? Hope you're just busy and doing well!

Have a great day!

Hi All - I'm here, just having a bad few days. And I'm beginning to think that I am on some sort of weird annoying plateau, because in spite of eating well, and exercising like a fiend, my weight is back up to 258.4. Let's just say I'm a VERY unhappy camper right now. But I'm trying to not let this derail me. *grumble*

I do have one sort of amusing thing to share. A local radio station here in Denver is giving away an assortment of plastic surgery. The current contest is for a facelift, and I've entered it in the hopes winning and getting rid of my damn waddle! So, if you chickies are so inclined, click on the link below and vote for "Pam M." - that's me! The winner will be announced on Feb 6th.

Hi gang,

I've been away for the weekend. And I fell completely off my plan. No exercise, bad food, and not enough water.

But, the weekend is over and I'm back at it hard starting at 5:30 tomorrow morning.

We're one month into our new body challenge. Two to go and lots of time to make a difference in our health.

Let's ROCK!

I threw myself off with all the force I could muster....*sigh*

Friday and Saturday were horrible - I just couldn't stop gorging myself. I think I finally realized the problem is my job, I've just been too damn stressed about it, and of course I deal with that by eating (doesn't everyone???)

But today is a new day and the start of a new month, and I'm back on track. I did 60 minutes of cardio - 20min each of the Elliptical, Treadmill, and the Stair******* - and as usual I felt really good at the end of it. I also did a GREAT job on my food, and my water. So I'm hoping February is going to be much better than December and January were.

And thanks for voting for me ladies - I've fallen WAY behind in the contest - to the point of no return. But that's okay, I can live with the waddle

Here's to a successful February for us all!

Good morning!

Good job Pam of getting back on the wagon. I'm up and have done my exercise this AM. We are having snow this morning so I'm not taking time for the airdyne until I'm safely back home this evening. DH brought home McD's for breakfast so I'll be skimping on food the rest of the day in my determination to get food back on track. I'm back to phase 1 of SBD this week so no more breads or other starchy carbs.

Have a great Monday!

Hey Terri - Maybe the now we had this weekend is now in your neck of the woods. :)

So, my plan for the month of February:

1. Exercise DAILY! Even if it's just 30 minutes, just DO IT.
2. Stair******* for at least 20 minutes at lunch - the Evil Trainer thinks changing up my cardio will help me break out of the plateau it seems I'm on...Personally I just think he's being hateful....
3. Food - Average 1750 HEALTHY Calories a day for the month
4. Water - 128-160 oz daily

Is it Friday yet?

Oh Lordy, been there more times than I care to count! Congrats on getting back on track, Pam! Sounds like a good plan!

Terri...aren't you just SO sick of snow? :stress:

Goals for today:
*Strict adherence to Phase 1: (I haven't really strayed too far...just been grazing sbd legal foods, but not structured) three square meals with my two snacks.
*Body Pump class+cardio of some sort, probably a walk.
*Measuring out my gallon of water and drinking every last drop.
*take all my vitamins

That's it!

Good morning!

I took three days off from exercise and it feels like forever. Last night, I made myself get on the spinner - did 42 mintues. My plan is to be doing 50 minutes a session by the end of this month. I also want to be doing 30 minutes on the airdyne.

I got food back under control yesterday. I've reduced my WW points target by 5 this week seeing if I can get the scale moving again. My body seems to be starting its PMS dance which means the scale holds steady for two weeks. That is so :censored: aggravating!

Our snow didn't turn out to be much. Its the layer of ice underneath it that's a butt buster. I'll be glad when that's gone and I can get out and walk the dog again.

Have a great day!

Speaking of snow, we are set to get hit again starting this afternoon....

Well, I've had two good days, stuck to my eating plan, did my cardio, etc...so of course my reward is that the scale numbers keep creeping up ever so slightly :bomb: So I'm resisting the urge to drown my sorrows in some crack sprinkled bacon from the cafeteria - just got to hold out for 1.5 more hours until it's closed for breakfast...

Thanks Pam - you can keep that snow! But I think we're getting hit with it today.

Yesterday's food was good. Exercise was kinda scarce. I only did 10 minutes on the airdyne yesterday AM and I only walked the dog last night. I stayed an hour later at work than I had planned and that really wrecks havoc on my evening plans.

Tonight, I will do 45 minutes on the spinner. I ordered the Winsor Pilates DVD for back and one for butt and thighs. I'll do one of those after the spinner.

I've got my food planned out so that I'll be within plan for that. As always, drink more water.

Have a good one!

According to our crack weather people here (they NEVER get forecasts right) we were supposed to get up to 12" of snow....yeah, this morning I had maybe 1/2"....

Did well yesterday - though I confess to having a BBQ fest for lunch - but I made sure that I ate light the rest of the day, so I was only 50 calories over where I wanted to be for the day...not bad at all IMHO. And I worked with the Evil Trainer last night as well (arms and shoulders are still kinda sore).

Plan for today - well I'm leaving work at 2 or 2:30 (I come in really early when it snows - hate being on the roads with the people who don't know how to drive in winter weather), so I'll either go do cardio, or go work with the Evil trainer if he can work me in at 3pm.

Hiya to everyone

I have only been posting in this forum since 1-04 and I hope you guys dont mind me dropping in to post. I am currently @ 277lbs and have been well on my way to the 300lb mark. I have to say it is pretty scary.

The spring challenge really caught my eye cuz I am striving to be able to buy new spring clothes preferrable a size smaller than last year 2 sizes smaller would be wonderful but i want push it lol..

I can see that you guys have been pretty successful along your journey and i could use the inspiration and motivation. This is my first real attempt at weight loss and the measely(sp) 3lbs seems like nothing to me. I know be patient. But I am ready for change.

Anyway I cant seem to get it together with the eating plan and the excerise the eating plan :

I have cut back on breads soda and sugars and drinking plenty of water but as far as excerise boy am I lost just getting in some walking when weather permits
Do you all have any suggestions of a good excerise plan

Hi ladies!

Thanks a lot Pam, didn't I say to keep your snow? We have about 12 (I edited my original amount after I heard the news) inches today. I'm not doing any exercise. I had to get out and shovel the driveway. I intend to sit on my butt this evening. I told DH that we're buying a snowblower at the end of the season if we can find one. Screw the exercise from shoveling! :o

I loved the pic of your evil trainer. Too bad he can't be evil via email. I need someone evil to get this fat off.

Yay - it's friday, the snow has finally stopped and the skies are clear. Today I'm not going to be staying on plan so much - I've got an art show/dinner/movie with friends tonight, and I plan to enjoy myself at dinner. Also I'm only seeing the Evil Trainer for about 30 minutes at lunch - he's going to stretch me because my hammies/glutes/calves are so darned tight. But tomorrow it's back to the healthy eating and to the gym for a lotta cardio and maybe swimming.

Okay, I've redeemed myself from yesterday's laziness.

First, I finally tried my Winsor Pilates for the Back DVD. I did the whole thing. Wow, my body is not as flexible as I had thought. Then I did 30 minutes on the airdyne. That is a big accomplishment given how I feel about it!

My plans for tomorrow are:
1. Do the General Conditioning series from this new book I bought. This will be in the morning.
2. Ab work on the flex ball. Also in the morning.
3. 45 minutes on the spinner at night.
4. Winsor Pilates for the abs after the spinner.
5. Lots of water.
6. Keep my food to under 29 points.

Have a great one!

Hey Ladies....
Terri - 1 Gallon is 128 oz.

Did okay this weekend on food, but for some reason I'm just not drinking water like I used to. I kicked my own butt both days on cardio, and reached a goal the trainer wanted me to aim for - walk 1 mile on the treadmill in 15 minutes - well yesterday I did it in 14:45...damn near kilt me, but I did it!

Plan for today -

1700 calories
160 oz water
40 min cardio at lunch
60 min with the Evil trainer after work
Dead asleep by 9pm

brunissen, what a daily plan. i wish i could come close to some of those goals, especially the water and the cardio. i don't have to much trouble with my strength training or my cal. intake. it's just i hate cardio and during the winter months it is hard for me to get in much water, although that is basically all i drink. all you ladies are such inspirations. keep up the good work.

Okay, so my evening plans were to do 45 minutes on the spinner then do the pilates for abs. It was a challenge but here's what I accomplished:

45 minutes on the spinner - interrupted at 9 minutes for a phone call where DH was too DUH to take a message - but got back on and resumed - interrupted at 13:46 minutes by the damn dryer - but got back on and stayed until 45 mintues was up.

By that time, it was too late to do the ab work. I'll do it in the morning.

I got in 90 oz of water today. So my next stop after posting here will be the bathroom (again!).

Food was within my goal of 29 or less.

My plan for tomorrow:
1. Pilates for Abs - morning
2. Airdyne - 33 minutes in the evening
3. Keep my food points to 29 or less.
4. Water - 90 oz or more

:bravo: Pam for that 14:45 mile! That is smokin'!

Morning Ladies....

Well I somewhat succeeded in plans for yesterday:
Water 114oz
Food 1701 Cal (YAY!)
Cardio 15min
Evil Trainer 60min

Plan for today:
Water 160oz (if it KILLS me!)
Food 1700 Cal
Cardio 60min
No Evil Trainer
Update my Resume and look for a new job- I'm officially fed up with this place!

The Evil Trainer was VERY happy about the 1mile in 14:45 - but of course now he expects me to keep up that kind of pace....some days I REALLY hate him. So I'm doing my cardio after work tonight and I'm aiming for doing the mile again in under 15 minutes - if you don't hear from me again it's because I either dropped dead on the treadmill, or the damn thing flipped me off backwards smack into a wall. :D

I didn't get anything done last night. Work interferes. I did do the Winsor Pilates for Buns & Thighs in the morning. Good lord, there are muscles in my hips that were screaming. Just when you think you're getting in good shape, you find out there are more muscles that need toning.

I'm not going to get anything done today. I have to get work early today and then DH and I are going to a movie tonight. I'm sorry, but I have to take the opportunity to see a movie over exercise.

Have a great day.

Plan for today:
1700 calories
160 oz Water (This time I SWEAR I'm going to hit that number!)

Ooops, I forgot an important word in my last post. I had done the pilates the day before. Alas, it was a nothing day yesterday. Food was even horrible. Beyond horrible. I had a headache, was grouchy, ate everything in sight. Ah yes, TOM is imminent. The joys of womanhood. I didn't drink as much water in the afternoon as I knew I would be in the movie. Didn't want to have to get up every 30 minutes.

But hey, we did enjoy the movie! Awesome.

Today will be much better. I've already done the Bun & Thighs (yes today) and part of the Abs pilates. The dog thought it was appropriate to lay on me (he's 160) since I was down on the floor. I had to beat him off. But, I feel a much stronger day ahead.

So yesterday I did VERY well! Just over 1700 calories, 164 oz of Water, 60 minutes with the Evil trainer, but because of the weather and general business at work, I only did 25 min of cardio. And as for "Use all the powers of my mind to drive away the snowstorm that's supposed to hit us" - well the sun is out today, and the roads were pretty much dry last night and this morning....However, it is -3.....

Yeah for Friday!

Food was better - not perfect - but better. I felt much better all day and no more eating everything in sight. I only did 26 minutes on the spinner. I think it was a combination of not wearing the padded bike shorts and a constant pain in my foot that was impossible to get beyond. I don't think it hurt because of the spinner because I get these pains in the bone even if I'm just sitting - unrelenting and then it will be gone. So I gave up.

I've had a setback with my foot over the weekend so no cardio work for me for awhile.

I did get up and do my pilates for abs work. I still can't do all the moves but I figure something is better than none and one day I will be strong enough to complete the whole thing.

Day two, back on track! I kept my food within plan, drank lots of water, and did some exercise. I did my general conditioning stuff this morning and this evening, I did 20 minutes on the airdyne. This may be the only cardio I can get for a few days. I just had to try. TOM will be out of here this week and I'm hoping to see some results in the scale. Seems like I only get one good week a month with the scale.

Uh-Oh....it appears we are losing steam on this challenge - and we still have one month left!!!

I have decided to throw down a "shock and awe" campaign on myself. Specifically in regards to my eating - I'm slowly adding more calories almost daily, so the scale isn't moving the way I want. SO until my birthday three weeks from now, I'm going to be following I guess what would be the South Beach Diet Phase II....In addition I'm going to try and stay at 1500 calories or less daily. This with the cranked up workouts I've been doing with the Evil Trainer and which I need to get back to doing on my own as well, should get me to my goal for this challenge....I hope...

So, plan for today:
1. No Soda
2. No Crack-bacon from the cafeteria
3. 1500 calories
4. Evil Trainer after work
5. Cardio at lunch (heading out to that shortly)
6. 128 oz water
7. No Girl Scout Cookies - damn things are EVERYWHERE at work!!!

C'mon ladies! Let's ramp this challenge back up for the next few weeks!!! :drill:

Hi Pam,

Yes, we have lost a few people. I'm not giving up. I didn't get any exercise in yesterday. This morning, I did my general conditioning work. I'm liking this book that I got on getting stronger. I had wanted to get to a new level and I think this will be it. I had done the same exercises for so many years that were no longer effective. I can tell the difference from using the medicine ball and curl bar instead of just the handweights. So, I'm pleased with what I'm accomplishing there.

No cardio tonight as I didn't get home in time and DH was in a tiz when I got here. Crisis averted and I'm exhausted from a hard day at the office. There shouldn't be any excuses. Tomorrow, I'm going back to the foot doc. I'm anxious to get back to cardio because I really believe that I have to get up to an hour a day in order to get rid of the fat covering all my fabulous muscle. But can I hack an hour on the airdyne?

My goals for next week (and the rest of this one):
1. Stick to SBD allowing only one starchy/sugar carb a day (one "real" serving - not my version of a serving  )
2. Keep doing my general conditioning work and the pilates work on alternating days.

I am really working on shifting my attitude away from what the damn scale says to making improvements in my measurements.

Thanks for the kick-start!!

brunissen
02-20-2004, 10:21 AM
Wait, you mean to tell me that our versions of servings aren't "real" servings!!?!?!?

Well, the Evil Trainer is concerned that 1500 calories a day isn't going to be enough to get me through my workouts (remember, he is trying to kill me), so I'm bumping it up to 1550-1650 daily - that seems to make him happy....

Plan for today:
1. 1550-1650 calories
2. 128 oz water
3. No Girl Scout Cookies/Chocolate (there was a chocolate incident yesterday)
4. 40 min Cardio at lunch, 60 min Cardio after work
5. No Soda

Happy Friday!!

I am going to have to revise my Spring challenge goals and plans. I went to the foot doc and I now have a broken foot. I'm wearing a removable brace but I must limit my walking and do no cardio at all for six weeks.

But, I am going to continue to do the general conditioning and pilates work that is chair or floor work. I'm so disappointed because I was so close to being able to do 60 min cardio sessions and will now lose all that endurance. But, I know I have to take care of this foot because its a bad break and I want it to heal once and for all.

I am going to WW this morning and weighing in with the brace so I'll have a gain. But I am going to focus on staying on track with food because I won't have cardio to burn off stupid choices. I am determined not to gain weight during this time.

I'll keep posting here because I'll need this challenge more than ever.

Have a great Saturday!

Ooops, sorry for not posting - thought I had.

I've been doing really well with low-key exercise and keeping my food in check. And the scale is reacting nicely. I'm not gaining but still within the same three pounds I've been hovering in for a few weeks. Maybe doing all the cardio told my mind that I could be more lax with food - and maybe this is what I needed to relearn better habits.

As always, the weekend will be a challenge. We are going to see Mel Gibson's movie tomorrow around noon and then going to Chinese buffet afterwards. I'll have to ponder what to eat so as not to load up on calories and sodium. I do know that I will limit the rice and noodles. But I love the appetizer stuff. Too bad its fried! I also don't want to bloat up over the weekend because of salt.

Have a great Friday!

Well, I'm still fighting the same damn 5 pounds I have been fighting all month - and I'm more than a little tired of it! It will take a miracle for me to meet my weight goal for this month. But on the plus side I know I have made BIG strides on the fitness/workout side - which is nice. Even the Evil Trainer is impressed/surprised with what I've been able to do the past month. And since I feel I'm floundering so badly when it comes to the eating, I'm meeting with a nutritionist next wednesday to see if she can help me get on the right track - I'm excited about that!

Plan for this weekend - don't really know, getting my hair color redone, and I'm having dinner with friends tomorrow after that, so I'm not sure when I'll get to the gym. So I'm just going to chug along and do what I can.

Have a great weekend - and let me know what you think about that Mel Gibson movie!

Good morning!

I'm up and about. I've did two full pilates DVDs (back and buns/thighs) then part of the abs. Since they use pretty much the same muscles, the muscles said, "Enough is enough!" :fr: But it felt great. I can tell I'm making progress.

We saw the movie yesterday. We want to see it again. Its different since its in Aramic and Hebrew with subtitles. It was brutal. Part way throught I thought that this is too brutal, too violent, why did it have to be so violent - but then I realized that this is probably what was done to Him and that I should SEE it and understand and don't ever forget. It meant a lot to me. I think it will depend on why someone is seeing it what they get out of it. I cried through the last half. But then I was so glad that I saw it.

Food was not the best yesterday but I knew that. Today will be right back on track with lots of water.

Have a great one!

Morning!

Well, this morning my "official" first of the month weight was 256 - not happy about that, but given the way I stuffed my face the past 3 days I'm not surprised either....BUT one good thing - my BMI went down 3.7% in February! Which is the biggest jump in that I think I've ever seen in one month - so YAY!!!

I know I'm not going to make my goal of 237 by 4/3/04 (end of the Discovery Body Challenge) but I'm aiming for at least 245 now. So we'll see.

Great job, Pam! Its not all about the scale so you're still doing great! :bravo:

Yesterday, I did my general conditioning workout and ab work in the morning. I was good and kept off my foot. Amazing how much work I'm getting done at work now! Also, food was within my point range. I'm keeping close tabs on the scale and I'm not really going up. I gained 2 pounds as soon as I had to quit cardio but its holding steady within that same 2 pounds.

I'm getting ready to go do my pilates for back DVD then off to work! My plan for the day is to keep food within 26 points. I need to figure out how many calories that is. But I'm finding it easier and easier to cut back on the points and not starve. I actually live!

Have a great day and keep up all the great work.

Hey Terri (and any lurkers that might be out there....)

I thought I had posted yesterday....apparently I never finished. Not much to update. I had my initial meeting with the Nutritionist this morning, and I think I'm really going to like working with her. I see her again next wednesday - we are going to measure my Resting Metabolic Rate, and go over a few weeks of my food logs and then well come up with a plan for the next 8 weeks.

Other than that, I'm just haning in there, the trainer is still trying to kill me (parts of my butt hurt today that I didn't even know existed!).

I hope the nutritionist can help you find out why you're at a stuck point. You'll have to share what you learn to improve. It certainly can't be in cutting much more calories with all the exercise you do.

I did my general conditioning stuff this morning even though I didn't want to. My upper back is bugging me and I either slept wrong and kinked right about at the base of my neck and shoulder blade area or its because I'm sitting in the recliner and need more support. Whatever, my muscles hurt and were tight. Tomorrow is pilates.

Food is so-so. I'm sneaking in a few things that I shouldn't. Its not enough to cause gains but enough to keep me from losing. I need to knock that crap off real soon.

I'm off to bed now.

Morning! I meant to post on Friday, but when the day starts out with a phone call at 4:45am you know it isn't going to be a good day....

I'm doing okay - I finally broke the 250 mark - on Saturday morning I weighed in at 247.2 - and although some partying and TOM have bumped that number up today, I'm still going to call it a goal met!

Plan for this week - gonna be tough I'm off Wed-Fri so I can cook and clean for a party I'm having Saturday night - but I'm going to just do my best. I'm seeing the Evil Trainer 3x times so hopefully that will help keep me focused.

Hi ... Determined to succeed/Terri has asked me to post here.
Most of you know .. but she has not been able to post for quite some time .
Her computer won't let her on 3FC. It is very frustrating for her.
She is able to "read" at work ... but her job does not allow her to post.
She wants everyone to know she has NOT abandoned you... she is trying with all her abilities to get back as soon as possible.

She wants you to keep up the good work ... and remember she can read... so feel free to send her messages.... she just can't reply .. yet.
We are working on it... and hopefully she will be back with us soon.

Pam is also MIA for a while. I did not know she posted here until now.
She is having some personal problems and hopes to return soon too.
I don't know if she is reading or not.... but she sends her love and asks for prayers to help them solve their problems soon and return even sooner.

Brunissen ... I want to invite you to post in the chat thread too any time. We would love to get to know you better. We don't bite... well .. unless you have something good to eat in your hands.

Pam

Have you given up on me? I finally have figured out how to get back here. It has something to do with the wireless router that is causing me not to be able to access a couple of websites. But I can if plugged directly into the cable modem. So here I am with that temporary solution. I'm not happy with that but I've spent too much time otherwise trying to make it work, it will do for now.

I have to admit that last week was just a really bad week. Food wasn't the best. Exercise wasn't done either. Stress at work was awful. And it was PMS week. But, I will not let it go on any longer.

Yesterday, I did my pilates for back which felt wonderful. I also did 5 minutes on the airdyne using mostly my arms and my right leg. I'm going to start back at that and only that since I can do that without bearing down on my left foot. I need to get the back muscles working again.

This morning, I've done my general conditioning work. My plan for the day is to keep my food to 28 points and do the pilates AB dvd tonight.

Congrats on breaking into the 240's!

Hey Terri -

I am still here, just MIA the past few days. I was getting ready for my birthday party, then recovering from it.... :) Needless to say, after all the "festivities" my weight is up just a tad - but this week is now all about DETOX!

Plan for today -
Do my cardio
Stick to my minimum of 1600 calories (per the nutritionist)
WATER, WATER, WATER!

Good morning!

Its Hump Day and St. Patrick's day! :D

I've got a good week going. I had a great conditioning workout this morning. I have added some exercises using hand weights and the stability ball. I have figured out that the one I have is too short so I'll be buying a new Gin Miller one and get her workout.

My plan for the day is to keep my points to 27 and this evening do the pilates for AB dvd. And drink lots of water. We're going out at lunch so it will have to be a chicken salad thingy.

Have a great one!

Happy St. Pats day!

I'm hoping that I'm back on track today (so far so good anyways). I'm working with the Evil Trainer tonight (first time in almost a week because he was out of town), and I'll be doing my cardio before that. Since I have NOTHING healthy in the house to eat, I'm going to try and make it to the store as well - but that will depend on how hard my butt gets kicked tonight. :)

I'm also trying to be a little kinder to myself - I've been mentally beating myself up for not being where I wanted to be (weight wise) by this time. And after a long chat with the nutritionist, I decided I just need to be nice to myself until whatever funk I'm in finally passes.

Well, yesterday went okay...overate just a bit but I did 20min of cardio (wasn't in the mood to do more) and then worked with the Evil Trainer. I'm hoping to have more interest in doing my Cardio today, and I'm working with the ET tonight again. Other than that I'm just going to do the best I can.

Morning and TGIF!

I thought I'd get in a quick post before I have to go to my 3 hour meeting hell....

Did well yesterday - ate a bit too much, but I did my cardio at lunch, 20 minutes of treadmill before the ET, and then 1 hour with the ET - so I'm still calling the day good.

Plan for today - I'm going to try and get to the gym for cardio at lunch, then I'm working with ET after work. I'm going to watch my food, and drink my water as well, and I'm also going to try and not slip into a coma during the 3 hours meeting. That last item is probably the one that will be hardest!

Yeah for Friday and for day's off! I'm having a 3-day weekend. Yippee!!

I'm not letting my exercise lapse - I got up and did a good general conditioning workout. Made my muscles quiver. Felt great.

The weekends are the challenge. We're having dinner out with relatives tonight at an Italian buffet. I've eaten there before and will focus on the salad, veggies, and anything seafood - I will pass on the pasta, pizza and breads. But how do I pass up the little chocolate souffle cake?

I hate those 3 hour meetings - anything over an hour makes me cranky. Have a good one!

Hi!

Its Saturday and so far, so good on food for a change. DH joined WW this morning and sat through a meeting. He wasn't pleased with the scale but I think that will help him have buy in to us trying to do WW together. We've tried it before but I was the only one going to official WI's and he didn't really commit. He's had an jolt to his ego.

That Italian buffet with the killer chocolate souffle's is Cinzetti's and I think there is one in the Denver area. I did well with my food choices, I loaded up with salad, veggies and I did try an orzo dish that I enjoyed. I enjoyed calamarie as well. However, I did not stay totally away from the pizza. What can I say - its small slices and very thin crust. And I totally enjoyed the dessert.

Today is a different day.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

This is the best weekend I've had in a long time, foodwise. Since WI on Saturday morning, we've kept our food on track. No being stupid. This morning, I did two of my pilates dvd's so at least I did some exercise.

I've been laying around like a slug but I figure I should do that since was I up moving around a bunch yesterday. Two more weeks and hopefully I can take off the aircast.

Have a great evening!

I was a good girl this morning. While I wanted to lay on the bed after my shower, I did a good conditioning workout. Now I can lay on the bed! But only for about 5 more minutes then have to get ready for work.

I look forward to this being day 3 OP. Breakfast will be a WW smoothie, lunch will be leftover roast chicken and a salad, and dinner will be ?. Maybe grilled pork chop and veggies or some form of turkey. Depends on DH, the chef.

Have a great Monday!

You are just kicking some serious butt Terri!! :bravo:

I had an okay weekend - didn't feel well for most of it....I've learned now to stay the hell away from the foods with the "Sugar Alcohol" in it to reduce the carbs - that stuff is like Ex-Lax to my system!

I have another appointment with the nutritionist tomorrow morning - 6:30am  And I've done my "homework" she gave me. So I'm kind of jazzed to see what she comes up with for this week. I like that she's just not looking at the straight calories in/calories out angle - she realizes all the emotions I have tied up with food, and she's working with me in a way that isn't causing the "crazies" (binge/purge) to kick in.

I also worked out at lunch today, and I see the Evil Trainer tonight at 7. So I'm planning on this being a successful day!

Woohoo!!!

5 days totally OP. This is a first in a long time. I can feel the difference and am confident that I'm on the verge of breaking through this plateau.

As we wind down this challenge, Pam, how would you like to go forward? Still want to hang in here with a thread? I like the focus and accountability. I'm thinking a three month "prepare for summer" thread. Up to the first day of spring? Or would you prefer to going back to the monthly boot camps.

Anyone lurking that would like to join in can throw down their opinion too!

Great job with working with the nutritionist. The hardest part of getting into better shape is getting a grip about food and the emotions we attach to it.

I'm sorry, but I'm watching the Today show and its 7:30. Listening to "semen on panties" and timing, etc. is too much for this early. Yuck! On that note, I'm outta here and off to work.

brunissen
03-24-2004, 01:19 PM
Okay I don't even want to know WHY "semen on panties" is being discussed on the Today Show....

And way to go girl!!!!! :high:

Going forward I think the three month "get ready for summer" thread sounds good - how about April 1 to the end of June (tho summer officially starts around June 20). And I definitely like the accountability - it helps keep me focused (most of the time) and it's nice to go through it with others....

Have a happy hump day! (wait, it's hump day is that the reason for the above mentioned topic on the Today show??? )

Too bad my hubby's away, on this fine "hump day!"

Can I throw my hat back into the ring?
I'm ready to "Prepare for Summer."
And how!

Terri, I think I have the "grip about food"...it's those emotions swirling all around it that keep me floundering. Maybe a diet isn't what I need at all...A lobotomy might be more like it!

Hi ladies!

Hmm, thought I had posted. I have trouble hitting the submit button sometimes.

Okay, just to bring the panties up again. It was about the Kobe Bryant case and his defense. Two lawyers agruing about her panties.

Back to the health front.

Food is still going well. We've been totally OP with our food since last Saturday. Yesterday was a tough mental day. Do you have days where you've been so good for a few days and you feel that you need to eat? I really had to fight the urge to eat more than my point range - almost felt like I needed to reward myself or something.

Exercise has not been as good as it should have been. Work has been difficult this week and I've been tired all week. I will do something on both weekend days to get myself going again.

Alrighty, I think we'll end this challenge on the 31st and start a new three month or so Challenge on April 1. I think that's next Thursday.

Its Friday! Its jeans day at work! Have a great Friday!

And that pretty much sums up my week....

Weather is supposed to be nice (tomorrow anyway) so I'm going to get my garden cleaned up, and I'm hoping to hit a nursery on Sunday just to look at some shrubs. I'm going to try and stay on track, but we will see how that goes (work has me more than a little stressed lately).

And I've done conditioning type of exercise both days. Lots of productivity too. Despite the crappy weather, it was a good weekend!

My plan for the day: oatmeal and almonds, milk for breakfast; grilled chicken and salad for lunch; crabcakes and cauliflower with light cheese for dinner. Ice cream treat if points allow for a late snack.

I have a nail and pedicure appt after work so may not get any exercise in. If i have time, it will be pilates for legs.

Have a great Monday!

Damn Terri - you are just on top of things aren't you????

Well, I kind of hit a wall - I realized last week I was completely, totally, utterly burned out. With everything. So, when I saw the Evil Trainer on Saturday I told him I was burned out and needed a week off - he wasn't surprised given my lack of interest lately, and was fine with the week off. I decided I am still going to track what I eat, but just kind of for historical purposes (I've been keeping a spreadsheet tracking this weight loss journey).

I'll be posting, but until Saturday, 4/3, I'm not making any goals or worrying about goals I didn't make from this challenge. BUT I'll definitely be joining in on the new challenge!!
