Debelli 10-06-2003, 08:43 AM GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, there's 2 of them to read today:

A MOMENT LIKE NO OTHER
This is truly your lucky day. For you are here to live it. This is a moment that is like no other. And it is here now, ready to be lived with all the fullness, all the richness you can imagine.
What is the most beautiful, wonderful, positive and fulfilling thing that you can imagine? Dare to imagine it, and dare to begin living the reality of it. For today, your most treasured dream is not only a real possibility for you, it will truly begin to take shape. Today you can imagine the best, and today is the day to start living it.
Though all sorts of obstacles may stand in your way, today there is nothing that can hold you back. For today you're able to fully experience the wondrous gift of life, with which anything is truly possible.
Look deep inside, and you'll have no doubt that this is most certainly a moment like no other, filled with extraordinary possibilities. You'll surely find what it takes to live this moment for all it's worth.

SOONER
The sooner you deal with a problem, the less of a problem it will be. The sooner you act on an opportunity, the more value that opportunity can bring. The time to act is now. The longer you wait, the more you put yourself at a disadvantage.
No matter how far ahead or how far behind you may be, there is always something you can do. Be willing to act sooner rather than later, and your actions will be all the more effective. Stop waiting for conditions to be perfect. Regardless of what the conditions may be, there is some way to start moving positively ahead right now.
Sure, there are plenty of good excuses for failing to act. Yet they all pale in comparison to the advantage you'll gain by going ahead and getting started. The sooner you act, the better it will be.

Have a wonderful day, and a fabulous week!!!!!

GatorGal 10-06-2003, 09:30 AM I always wear my wedding ring, of course, and always wear earrings. So the poll was hard to pick one. I have a nice collection of unusual necklaces, though, so I checked that.
Monet--No, I don't know if I had posted that I had Hashimoto's.
I suspect that UGA's rivalry with Ga Tech is like ours with FSU--very heated and "hated." However, FSU is not in the SEC, so the end result is just a state rivalry and it doesn't make any difference for the SEC championship. UGA, I would guess would win the most votes if you took a poll at U. of Florida as to who is the most hated. The game at Jacksonville is still billed as "the world's largest outdoor cocktail party." The Gator Bowl is now a new stadium, where the Jaguars play. It is in the same spot as the old place, right there on the river.
Gotta go. I'm gonna play golf this morning. Had my blood drawn to see how the thyroid is doing. So just have enough time to eat and get going.
BYE.
CountryMom4Him 10-06-2003, 09:48 AM Well, let's just say I lost my mind this weekend and leave it at that. :) Back on track this morning. Get to relose those pounds I picked up when I had my temporary insanity.
I learned something new with my graphics this weekend so I'm gonna post my newest graphic for ya'll in case you want to snag it.
Believe it or not I even have a MM to today:
YOUR DAILY MOTIVATION
EVERYTHING HAS A PRICE.
Motto:
Small, gradual changes can have amazing results when you look at "The Big Picture"
============================================
No one has a corner on success.
Pay the price for it and it's yours.
No matter what you want from life
you've got to give up something to get it.
Nothing worthwhile will come easily to you.
Hard work will accomplish results that last.
There is no easy road to success.
You've got to work a great deal harder than most people to get it.
There is no success at bargain basement prices.
The highway to success is a toll road.

Fillise 10-06-2003, 10:04 AM Morning all!
After a big Saturday, yesterday I went to Birmingham to see a production of The Starlight Express. What at strange show! It premiered in the early 80's when disco/rollerskating was the rage and um, let's just say that the fad hasn't aged particurlarly well! I did have a good time with my friends--and that's what counts!
Country--We all lose our minds from time to time so just get right back OP and you will be no worse for the wear!
Gator--the question was hard for me too. I love jewlery--all kinds, but I picked rings since that's what I look at first in a Jewlery store. When I was at UGA (84 & 85) the UF game was a very big deal. They told us not to cancel classes the Friday before, but that was useless since NO ONE was in class! I think the SEC is going to be wide open this year. When AU is good they can beat anyone in the conference, but then they are bad--they are awful. One never really knows which team will show up on any given Saturday. Thank goodness the "good" team showed up against UT!!!!!
BOB--You are very gracious and as you can read above--our horrid team could have just as easily shown up on Sat! Ummm,,, your Sunday dinner sounds good!
Monet--Will you share your recipe for WW pie crust? I have a couple but am still looking for a better one. I always make a legal pie for Thanksgiving.
Welcome newcomers!!!! Jump right in and ask any question! We try to be here for one another!
Have a great week everyone!
Susan
jackieO 10-06-2003, 10:25 AM Good Morning to Everyone!!! Hope your weekend was fun and well rested. Sorry to report that I ate sugar last night for the first time in over a year. I literally felt drugged a
jackieO 10-06-2003, 10:33 AM sorry about that, my finger hit submit...anyway, I felt drugged and lethargic. So maybe that will keep me from craving sugar for a while (since I recently started having issues with that). I will just remember the way I felt after eating the sugar, and hopefully it will prevent me from giving in to the cravings. I did, however, mange to do much better eating out at restaurants.
GatorGal- Have a good golf game, and check in with us to let us know how the old thyroid is....
CountryMom- Just get back on track today. I am sure you will!!
Susan- Yes, Starlight Express is not one of Andrew Lloyd Weber's better productions. I agree it's outdated and kind of 1983 like!
Hello to the late comers and Superdave, heartmom, deb, Jackie, bob, Fruit, jecrites, talitha, monet, sef, pancho, chrisD, and all the other peeps I missed!
Solly 10-06-2003, 10:49 AM Good Monday Morning,
Hope everyone had a great weekend and is ready to start this new week with great resolve.
I see this sign everyday and thought I would post it for a MM:
"The door to opportunity will not open, unless you give it a push".
We had a good time at the track. Won a couple races, but didn't gome out a winner for the day. It was fun though. Yeterday was spent shopping and watching ballgames.
Got my shot (2 of them) but it has not seemed to help. I can hardly sit now.So I am on the heating pad. Don't know how I am going to walk around New Orleans all week.
You all were quite busy this weekend on the board. I quickly skimmed the posts and tried to make a few replies.
Monet, send some of that apple pie, brown betty, ext. my way. Sounds delish.
Pancho, How horrible about the camcorder. You are right, those memories cannot be replaced. Hope someone has the decency to return the tapes. Hate that Delany has HFM disease. Sounds like Dominic passed it on thru the computer. Try popcicles.
Emma, Welcome to our group. It sounds like you have had a rough couple of years. Yes, we all turn to comfort food in time like that. Sorry about the loss of your mother. She does sound like a trooper. But you have realized that you cannot do this alone and have come to the right place for support. We look forward to getting to know you. Welcome.
Fillise, sure hope that man at the game is ok. Yes, we have to remember it's only a game. It's over the next morning. Hope that water pipe didn't ruin your floor or anything else.
Tranquil, next time you want chips and salsa, make some out of ww tortillas. They are really good and satify the chip craving. Since Serene isn't planning on coming back soon, tell her I said hello and miss her.
Beach, glad your money problems did not forceyou to eat. That is a silver linging. At least you have a Peter to rob.
Bob, Sorry there wasn't a horse for you. Great game tonight, Payton vs the Bucs.
Deb, there was a horse at the track named Ellie something, but when I first glanced at the program, I thought it said Eli... Then I realized it wasn't but I had to bet it I felt like it was a sign. No winner.
Country, cool graphics. I wish I knew more about that stuff. Glad you found your sanity. Maybe there won't be a gain to go with it.
JackieO, Sorry the sugar made you feel bad, but if it prevents another fall, it is a good thing.
I need to get started here. Lots to do in a short week. Be back later.
Jackie
Trishaloo 10-06-2003, 10:59 AM I just wanted to post a quickie here, I made it through the week-end staying On Plan!!! Had too many starchy carbs yesterday, but they were all legal. Thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown during the Texas game but we made it through. I'll post more later, but gotta run now. Have a great day everyone!!!
Trish
chrisd 10-06-2003, 12:30 PM hey everyone. Glad to see everyone had a good weekend. Well most of us anyway! I had a good eating weekend. Went to dinner with friends Friday night. i had an order of chicken wings and broccoli cheese soup. Not sure if the soup was legal or not...but since I had a few drinks (for the first time in 2 months) I figured it didnt really matter at that point. Heres to a good week for everyone. GO BUCS! :)
Pancho _ I am so sorry to hear about your cam. How horrible. I hope by now maybe someone turned it in somewhere. I cant believe Delaney has HFM. Does she have anything on her hands and feet also? Obviously I know exactly what you are going through. Its gonna be a horrible couple of days, I hate to say! I know they say try ice pops, ice cream, jello. But nothing worked for Dominic. He literally went 6 days with NO food at all. He wanted it, but it hurt too much. Hang in there, it will be over soon! Im sorry you have to go through that! There is a light at the end though, you just have to hold on until you get there.
JACKIE - 2 shots and it didnt work?? Im so sorry! You must feel like crap. I hope you get better before NO.
EMMA - Welcome to the board. These people on here are wonderful and will answer any question you have. They are the most supportive group around.
BOB - Soooooooo whats it gonna be tonight?? Peyton or Sapp??? lol. Decisions, decisions....!!!
Have a good monday!
Chris
and again....GO BUCS!!!!!!!!! :)
Pancho 10-06-2003, 01:16 PM Wow...I went to get caught up on posts from the weekend, and there were A LOT! I haven't seen such a busy weekend in awhile.
My weekend was pretty rotten as I posted earlier, and I did not eat very well either. I ate on-plan Saturday, but way, way too much....seems like I was grazing all day, and portions were way tooo big. Yesterday, I did bad. I had one slice of pizza and a cinnamon sugary dot (from Dominoes). The pizza wasn't even good. They were way too skimply on toppings, so I couldn't eat just the topping (usually I can do this with a few slices, and it fills me up). Oh well, I hope to do better today and this week. I am going to get ripped off on exercise this week. My DD is still sick so I can't go to the gym today. I will plan to go Wed. morning with DH is home, but will miss Friday and Saturday since we will be having a garage sale those days.
I am going to go to Whole Foods or Wild Oats today to do some shopping; we need a few things, and I am going to try some new recipes, and that apple walnut loaf.
Teensy: You posted the recipe for the apple walnut loaf, right? Do you need to add yeast at all?
Deb: I don't think you'd have enough changes to qualify for EM; not according to the picture I saw of you, but then again, I didn't see you naked:lol: . The ingredients in the sourdough pretzels are: unbleached wheat flour, water, salt, yeast, natural flavor, vitamin E.
Jack-K: Way to pass up on those Krispy Kreme donuts!!! We do expect to get a picture of you in those leather pants, you know that..... right? I know what you mean about toning that skin when you are young. I have never been more than 35-40 pounds overweight, but can see where losing massive amounts of weight could wreak havoc on one's body. I'm going to be 36 in a few months, but when pregnant with DD#2, my stomach got very large. People would say, "you are all baby," or "are you having twins?" I know that I will never be able to tone up that area like it once was. It is baggy and loose, and it will probably always be that way (but not noticeable when staning, just when I bend over a bit). I was talking to my doctor about any creams, lotions or potions for it, and he said that unfortunately the only thing that can be done is "nip and tuck." Luckily it is an area that not too many people see, especially when bending over ;) . Like Dominic, Delaney is not too interested in popsicles. I can get her to drink ice water, which I'm sure feels pretty good.
heart: I totally respect your feelings about plastic surgery, but I really think that if it helps someone healthwise, or even to boost their self-esteem then I am for it. Here goes....confession time. I have always been very big-busted on a small frame. After having DD#1, I was a size 40DD (squeezing them in). I had chronic neck, back and shoulder pain to the point of being miserable 85% of the time. I ended up going in for a breast reduction (which is considered plastic surgery) and it is the best thing I have ever done for myself, and would do it again in a heartbeat. I have not had any pain since the surgery, and have been able to do exercises that I couldn't do before. We come from a family of large boobies, and my younger sister has also had a reduction. It was considered medically necessary for both of us, and was covered by insurance. That being said, there are many people who have the money to totally change their appearances for no other reasons than vanity, and there I draw the line. However, if I had a 10# nose and knew that having it reduced would make me less aware of my appearance and a happier individual, than I probably would do it. Anyway, as you say, I'll get off my soapbox now;) . Thanks for the articles on SB; they were very interesting. Are you in the 170's yet????
Monet: The surgery was the laser surgery to correct my husband's vision. He has worn glasses/contacts for over 20 years. He is really pleased with one eye, but not too happy with the results on his right eye yet. You did a great job at dinner. You are making me hungry for those pies, yum! What is blue Agave syrup? I have only seen light and dark.
Fillise: So sorry to hear about the pipe; what a bummer. It sounds as if your week got better, as they usually always do. There is so much more good out there than bad!!
beach: What a bummer of a week. That's a lot of money to dole out. Thanks for the nice words. I know I should be happy that it was only 3 months of memories, but they were such important milestones.
Melf: Do you breed shelties? Or just love them?
Talitha: Good luck with your medical tests. Sorry you are being sent to the old Chick-Fil-A location. How long will you be there?
Faith: Welcome. I was an observer for at least a month before I started posting. Hop on anytime you have a question.
Emma: Welcome: So sorry to hear about your DM, as well as your weight gain. I hope you find the support you need here to meet and maintain your goal. God Bless!
Country: I'm with you on that weekend mind-losing eating fiasco. I was not a good doobie over the weekend. I need to get out more on the weekends and away from the darn kitchen. Hope you are enjoying your "vacation" time.
JackieO: Wow, over a year without sugar? If we could only bottle that feeling up and release it whenever we feel the need to binge on sugar.
chrisd: Delaney does not have any blisters on hands & feet (Thank God). My sister's kids got that earlier this year and were miserable. Apparently there are many different strains of the coxsackie virus, and this is the milder of many. She, like Dominic, doesn't want the popsickles either. I have been able to get ice water down her, and some food here and there (she loves to eat). BUT, overall she is miserable. The fever did break though, and I think we are on our way!
I'm sure by the time I hit the send button, there were be several more posts, but I will jump on later to catch up again.
Have a great OP Monday everyone!
Hugs,
Nat
CountryMom4Him 10-06-2003, 04:38 PM I am soooooooooo out of shape. Instead of walking this week I am going back to my first love...Richard...LOL :) I did the easier of the sweatin' to the oldies and boy did I get my heart rate up. My muscles were just a shakin' when I got done. But it felt great.
Deb...do you still have a copy of the phone tree? I lost mine with the other computer or I never got it. Thank you for all you do for us.
Jack-K...I am so sorry that you are still hurting. I hope they find the root of your pain soon and get you back up and feeling good.
Poncho....thank you.. Vacation really was kinda of a let down..ie the food fest. We didn't go any where and I got kinda down..then had bad allergies. So yesterday I just ate my boo hoos away. :) The good news if there is any, is that I was totally aware and made a decision to be bad versus doing it and then going....did I do that? :D Back on track today. Praying for your little one.
JakcieO..thank you for the vote of confidience. It's amazing how bad sugar makes ya feel when you've been away from it for so long.
Susan..glad you had a good time with your friends. Sorry you didn't care for the show so much.
ChrisD...doesn't sound like you did that bad at the resturant. I love chicken wings. This man made them on tv the other night and fried them without the flour...then put no the sauce. I can't wait to give it a try.
Trish...wtg staying OP.
Well I need to check my email...I am an email junkie.
:)
Love,
Crystle
Ellen 10-06-2003, 04:51 PM Howdy everyone! I got in from work a little while ago, and am now trying to catch up with the posts.
I am drinking hot tea, instead of coffee, and so far, so good. Coffee has bothered my stomach in the past, so I feel sure a short vacation from it will help.
The wicked witch of the bakery was Mrs. Jekyl this morning. She was all sweetness and kindness. Its obvious the manager said something. In fact, she acted almost afraid of me. The manager was off today..he was sick with a migraine. I have to work with the woman tomorrow too, since he changed the schedule since he first posted it. I don't know why he does that.... At any rate, I can deal with things as they were this morning. She left me alone to do what I needed to get done, and it was nice.
FILLISE: You want my ww pie crust recipe? You got it...
for a 2 crust pie: 2 1/2 cups ww pastry flour, 2 sticks butter, 1 t salt, about 1/2 cup ice water. Cut the butter into the flour and salt until it resembles coarse meal. Add just enough water for it to stick together. Press together. Divide in half. Roll out on floured board, ease into pie plate and fill. Roll out second piece, moisten edges of bottom crust with water, and lay second piece on top, press to seal, roll edges and crimp. Bake. Eat! :)
JACKIEO: That is good that sugar made you feel bad. Keep telling yourself that! If I get eating sugar, I seem to fall flat on my face! Its so humiliating to find you can't control the cravings!
PANCHO: The blue agave is a type of agave plant. Most of the agave available is from the wild agave plant. The GI is lower on the blue, but it is not available anymore. I happened to get some from St. Pat's Brewing supplies before they sold out. I wish now, I had gotten more. It was old stock, but has done just fine! Hmm, Apple Walnut loaf...I am going to look for that one! With all these apples, I want to try some different legal stuff!
CHRISD: The soup probably had cornstarch or flour in it, but not much. I would not sweat it, if you don't eat that kind of stuff often. It was probably a better choice than some other stuff...
TRISH: I had too many starches too...all in ww pie crust! ;)
JACK: I am so sorry the second shot has not helped! What is the doctor saying now? I remember driving to Texas from Georgia when my hip was really bad, and it was torture. I hope you have some improvement before you head to NO, so you can enjoy yourself!
COUNTRY: At least you stopped after a weekend...when I do that, I go on and on and on.... Its like something gets stuck in the on position or something....
GATOR: When did you find out about the Hashimotos? Fill me in...its considered autoimmune isn't it? I know my doctor thinks my autoimmune problems with lupus play in with my thyroid problems, but he has never been able to find anything in lab results to show that conclusively. I too wear my wedding rings all the time, or at least I did until I got some kind of chemical reaction that burned my finger around my rings. I think it was from the detergent we use at work...another good reason to quit my job! ;)
I am going to get this posted. I started it hours ago, and got interrupted by the doorbell, then the phone, and then I just plain forgot! Will get back on later to check on new posts I may have missed!
Have a great day!
Solly 10-06-2003, 05:25 PM Good afternoon,
Thank goodness the board slowed down a little from the weekend, whew!
Sneaking out a few minutes early. Have a nail appt at 5:30 and then one of the girls at the salon had the cutest haircut, so I am going to let her cut mine after my nails. Of course, she is tall, about 120 pounds at the most, beautiful and very young. Somehow I thinkt he cut will look different on me. Oh well, going to give it a shot. Plus they never look like they style them the next day. I am so inept when it comes to fixing hair.
Trish, WTG on making it a legal Weekend! :bravo:
Chris, I'm sorry, but I'm pulling for Peyton. He is too cute. The Bucs will probably win, but I'll be cheering for the Colts.
Pancho, this is a new week, just jump right back on track. Glad DD's fever broke, hope she starts to get better.
Country, I can't beleive you are out of shape, just have some muscles you haven't used in a while. I love Richard. It's hard not to feel good with him he is so uplifting.
Monet, glad the asst manager was better today. He surely said something to her. Hope tomorrow is just as good. I guess when I return from NO I will get that MRI and just see what is going on with me.
I just realized that my 2 yr SB anniversay will be Friday. I won't be on board, but I have loved every minute of it especially with you all. I was hoping to be at goal, but that's what happens when you cheat and go off plan. Words to the wise here. It will come one day soon. My next goal is by Christmas.
Have a grat OP evening.

SuperDave 10-06-2003, 05:35 PM I am having a real hard time choosing my favorite jewerly. Could it be my one ring or maybe a watch, but it has to be one or the other.
Now my wife has so much jewerly , it would be impossible for her to pick one or two, some times I ask when did you get that and she'll say you got that 3 yrs ago or whatever.
My xrays shows signs of a ruptured or compressed disk, so I am off to the wiizzard for a MRI as soon as the great medical proffession can get my medical provider to approve the action, and then they can find time to do it. You guessed it I am not too happy with how long it takes to get help.
Got to go and take my Daughter to the Auto repair shop to pick up her car.
have a Super Day

Debelli 10-06-2003, 06:20 PM Whoa! I can't believe it's taken me this long to FINALLY be able to get on the computer! We're lucky I was able to even start the board this morning. Woke up around 7:30am to find MICHAEL was up and working on the computer, BUT, as luck would have it, he was in the bathroom. So I snuck on and was able to get the first part of the board done before he came in ranting and raving. I asked for 5 minutes to do the rest and the loving boy of mine:rolleyes:: allowed it. He'd been up since 5:30am working on a project that's due tomorrow that is being done on Adobe on the computer. Not til now did I have a minute to get on here. I finally got rid of him by taking him to his friends house and LAUREN just left with her father to go to Temple (at least there's one Yom Kippur Jew in our home). ELI'S at work, or at a meeting for work, not sure which and I'm all alone and THRILLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Saturday sucked. Won't go in to it, nothing to do with eating though, thankfully. Yesterday I went out with my sister for the day. We went all over and then she took me out to lunch at OLE OLE. She loves it just as much as I do but hardly ever gets to go there unless she can break loose from her DH and 5 kids which isn't easy to do.
Other than that, not much else to tell so I'm going to jump right in here with some replies...gosh knows who and when someone will be coming through that door!
TRANQUIL, glad you liked the movie. ELI, his friend and I didn't. That means MICHAEL would probably like it. That would be great if you could find that cologne for me just in case I don't make it for some reason with MICHAEL for his graduation.
FILLISE, I'm sure when you said a DEBBIE DAY and that you love it, it was just a figure of speech, no one could ever love having a DEBBIE DAY unless they're masochists!
MELF, mosquitos are bad here too. Have to get back in to the habit of spraying the Skin so Soft around the front door. Did the trailer get moved and positioned in? If so, how'd everything go?
BOB, of course I don't forget anything, ummm, forget what? Things like that I don't forget, it's the important stuff I have a problem with! Will look to find BOAT TRIP at the library since you liked it. I could use a pee-in-my-pants laugh!
MONET, I think there's only one brand of baked beans without sugar and unfortunately, it's only available in the UK. Here's a link to one recipe, though I haven't made this particular one:
http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=325877&highlight=baked+beans#post325877 I'll have to see if I can find the one I made-it was so long ago but I do remember it was delish! One good thing about doing a fast search on the recipe boards, I found some old recipes I made that were awesome and it reminde me to try them again one day, maybe not too soon, but soon enough;) Glad you suckered TOM into going to get some apples. I got a new book today that has a few recipes in it that may be good for apples, I remember one calling for tart apples. Hey, do you know any place in your area that carries diastatic malt for baking? I need to get some, it's cheap, but then the shipping costs kill you because the companies ship UPS whereas through the PO it would only be a couple bucks. Know of any sources? Glad to hear you had a good day at work today and the WW behaved herself!
GREEN, I just loved your FF you posted! Thanks for sharing!!! That ice cream sounds delish - is Braums an ice cream place?
TALITHA, as I said, I can understand about the fasting, esp. today when all good Jews should of fasted due to religious purproses, that I can understand. BUT, you aren't eating enough on a daily basis, this being said from what you've been posting and you are just being counter productive. This isn't going to help you lose weight and all the effort you are putting forward isn't going to help. You'll lose water and lean muscle but not fat. I not only want you to not get discouraged when you don't lose, but I want you to be healthy why you try to lose the weight.
FAITH, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign1.jpg Glad you've decided to join us and thank you for posting your BIO on the BIO BOARD so we could learn more about you:) Thanks for the kudos as well:D Please don't hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have. As you've probably seen, we're all more than happy to throw in our 2 cents worth of advice.
PANCHO, sorry to head DELANEY isn't feeling well - is that the same thing that DOMINIC had? Hope DH'S eyes improve, hopefully the Dr.'s know what they say to be true. Oye, the camcorder. Maybe if you put up some signs, a ad in the paper pleaing to whoever found it if they won't return the camcorder to at least send you the tape somehow? Someone may be looking for it's owner, esp. if some decent person found it. Oh girl, trust me, there's too much for them to do for me on EM, really. Ask anyone who's met me, I don't lie. The pretzels sound fine - just remember what a serving is.
EMMA,http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign3.jpg Glad you have decided to join us! I have to say, I REALLY enjoyed reading your BIO on the BIO BOARD! Thanks for sharing so much about yourself in your bio as well as your post. I told my DS about you, as much of what you put in your bio made me think of him. He, as well as myself, wants to know what kind of scientist you are. I think it's the best bio I've read yet! I think you have come to see from lurking that if support it what you are looking for, this is it. If you want to make some true friendships, this can be the place as well. You will find you'll feel like you've known these people forever and can tell them just about anything. If you are one day lucky enough to meet others on this board, that will even solidify this fact even moreso. Even chatting on the phone or e-mailing people brings you even closer. Since you already know about SB having been on it in the past you know all the important things to do but we're here to help you brush up on anything you may have forgotten, so don't hesitate to ask:) Again, WELCOME!
GATOR, we may be heading up to Gainsville next week if MICHAEL is free to check out the school. Looking forward to hitting the HFS up there! I guess, living in Miami I couldn't imagine Cuba being the most interesting place you've been to as it seems I live in it on a daily basis. Now China, that would be a cool place to go. I use to want to go to Israel when I was younger but not anymore, not with what's happening there these days and after hearing what my cousin went through recently when he had to go on business (like having a machine gun held to his head). ELI would love for me to go with him to Lebanon but I know, if he thinks I'm *****y now, boy, with no a/c there, no traffic lights and people smoking wherever they want, he'd think a slow death would be an easier option after a trip with me there!
COUNTRY, I'm sure the small indiscretions you had over the weekend won't post you any problems. If you see a gain just figure it's from sodium and that if you just down that water and eat OP it will go away as quicky as it came. That's IF you have a gain! Love the new graphic! Thanks for the MM! Did I ever tell you that I met RS, I mean, I met him once at his insane asylum (or whatever they use to call it where you worked out-which has since closed) but that I was on the Sally Show and he was there too? I sent you the tree list, so you should have it now.
JACKIEO, if you have trouble with your post like that again, you know, you can hit the EDIT button and continue on:) Hope you are feeling more bright eyed and bushy tailed now - I'm feeling like you are, all day long. If I hadn't had to take MICHAEL to his friends house I'd still be in my nightie!:fr:
JACKK, loved that MM - short, and to the point! Gosh, I sure hope your butt gets some type of relief, esp. before you hit NO! Want me to ship you some 222's? I'll have to mention to ELI you thought about him when you saw the horse - of course I'll have to through in some goodies along with telling him this:s: Glad you won a few $$$, though not on the horse with a similar name. WOW, almost 2 years on SB - that's awesome! :bravo:
TRISH, good for you girlfriend:bravo: I bet you felt good about posting that this morning:D
CHRIS, I sent you 2 recipes, hopefully you got them. Both are good ones to try, or did I send you 3-oye, the brain's going! I'll let you know as soon as I find out if we are going to take MICHAEL to Gainsville the weekend I told you about. Should know this week, before ELI makes his work schedule.
DAVE, I hope the Dr.'s are able to come up with a plan of action to help you feel better. How were the ladies on Friday? I myself chose ring:)
WOW! Caught up and just in time. I'm making pita bread and it's ready to go in the oven, so I have to skiddadle.
Will try to check in later, otherwise, tomorrow morning.
Toodles
Debbie
Debelli 10-06-2003, 06:52 PM WOO HOO!!!!
Okay, really, it doesn't make much to make me happy, esp. when it comes to cooking or baking!
I made my pita bread, this is my 3rd time and it came out EXACTLY as I was hoping it would. This time all the pieces puffed all the way up like pillows!! OMG, they are perfect!!
I did forget to mention that I p/u a brand new, never used, in the box FARBERWARE 15" pizza stone with rack, pizza cutter and cheese grater for $2.50 this weekend (wasn't anything else worth remembering) and I used that stone for the pita and it worked perfectly>spin:
Okay, here's my recipe that I use in my bread maker on the dough cycle:
PITA BREAD
2 c WW flour
1 TBL wheat gluten
1tsp honey (I used agave)
1 tsp yeast (I use the dry active)
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c + 2 tsp water
Combine everyting in the machines bread pan. (I put the yeast in last, on top of the other dry ingredients) Turn the machine on th rise (dough) setting so that it will mix, knead, and allow the dough to rise once. Make sure the dough is properly hydrated; it should form a smooth ball. Adjust the liquid or flour as needed.
When the dough has risen, shape it into eight balls (I do 4 balls that are approx. 4oz each). Roll each ball into a 5 circle (bigger if you are doing less balls); Cover them and let them rise for 30 mintes. Polace the bread directly on the racks in a 475 oven (I tried putting it right on my racks the first time, and I wouldn't do it again, instead, if you don't have a stone, put them on cookies sheets instead).
Bake for 2 to 4 minutes, until puffed up. Cool them on racks.
Viola! That's all folks;)
Debelli 10-06-2003, 06:56 PM We've got a birthday to celebrate this week!!!!:hat:
IT'S SEF'S BIRTHDAY
THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10TH!!!
http://members.aol.com/eldemila/birthda_star.jpg
Fillise 10-06-2003, 07:17 PM I'm going to try to see if I can keep up this week! Hah!
Deb--Thanks for posting the Pita recipe--I'll have to try it! I've also been working on a project in Adobe that is due tomorrow. Tell Michael I can sympathize!!!!!
SuperDave--I'm so sorry to hear about the rupture! It's no fun--I've been there and can sympathize. I was fortunate in that mine got better after a round of steriods. They were talking about shots into the back of my neck--have you done those? I hear you can get a lot of relief from them. I hope you find some relief soon!
Jackie--Do you have acrylic nails? I get my natural nails done every two weeks, but they are so weak that I cannot grow them. I'm thinking about getting acrylics.
Monet--Thanks for the crust recipe--I'll give it a whirl! I'd love to have you and your DD come to visit and look at the campus. Finding a weekend will be the key. Unless you want to go to a game home football game weekends are out--if you want a really good campus tour, I'd suggest a non football weekend anyway. The 24th and 25th of October might be a possibility (although there is this nagging thought int he back of my mind that something is going on that weekend.)
Country--I have a couple of those Richard tapes lying around--I should get them out of moth balls and get my butt in gear along with you!
Pancho--Pizza is one of my weaknesses too! We have a restaurant in town that serves a WW crust, but still, I tend to eat way to many slices. WTG for only having one!
Chris D, Trishaloo, and Jackie0--Have a good week! I'm hoping everyone can stay OP this week.
It's a little after 5 and this is the hard part of the day for me. This is when I could eat my way through the house. I have some errands to run and a steak thawing for dinner so if I do the errands and come right home and start supper, I should be OK!
Have a great evening everyone!
Susan
heartmom 10-06-2003, 07:17 PM Hey, guys! Finally able to get on the computer. Okay, let me clear one thing up-about the PS- I'm not condeming anyone. Just speaking what I personally felt about it. I know several people who have went under the knife. Robby's aunt and cousin had boob jobs one week apart(they're mom and daughter) and a friend of mine had a boob reduction. Oh, and Robby's mom HAD a boob job also- I'll tell you the story behind that one some other time...hehe. Okay, anyway Saturday I went yard saling and did pretty good. Got Ashley several pairs of jeans with the flared legs(the only way she'll wear them) for a buck each. Got a couple windbreakers for myself around $2 each. Got 3 pieces of corningwear with the lids for $9 and got Boogie a whole box of hotwheels birthday decor(plates, hats, invitations, etc) for $1.50! Needless to say, his bday theme next year will be hotwheels. I splurged and bought be a $40 pair of boots/dress shoes. I have been soooo sore from the workout Thursday. I'm just now about over it. I needed to exercise today, but spent the majority of the day cleaning- the house was a wreck. The exercise class is tomorrow- I hope it doesn't leave me sore like last time. Well, I WAS down to 178- then TOM showed up and I'm a beached whale at the moment. I'm retaining fluid big time. I hope it will be off by WIW. Well, I'm hungry and everyone is pestering me about supper so gotta go.
JECRITES- Let me know how the baby's PC appt turns out tomorrow,k?
Ellen 10-06-2003, 07:21 PM Just popping in to see whats happenin'! I have two loaves of apple bread in the oven, made with ww and agave, and a chicken roasting on the grill.
DAVE: A young friend of ours has a herniated disc, and they have her doing physical therapy to see if they can improve it without surgery. There is also some kind of injection they can give to help shrink it. I hope you can use a non invasive treatment to get yours healed!
DEB: I will check on the diastatic malt and see if I can find it for you. I am willing to bet it is available somewhere around here. Thanks for the pita bread recipe. I would LOVE a stone. I don't want to pay Pampered Chef prices for it...and I have seen one at Big Lots for about $10, but I would love to find one for $2.50!
Ok, better check the chicken! Later all!
Ellen 10-06-2003, 07:31 PM DEB: Did you check home brewing supply stores for the diastatic malt? I thought it was used in brewing beer, and checked it...it is. A home brew supply place ought to have it. Let me know if you find it. If not, I will check the places up here. ;)
Teensybean 10-06-2003, 07:42 PM Hello everyone!
Been busy today, cleaning house and doing laundry. Was going to clean yesteday, but had to go into town for some stuff for dh. And then did some baking. And froze it!!
Got ouside and got some fall pruning and clean up done also. I have alot more to get started on, but I think it is supposed to rain tomorrow. If not I am going back out. Hopefully I can get the majority of it done before it gets too cold. I hate it when I wait too long and have to do it in the freezing weather!
Gator-- My wedding ring IS my favorite piece too. My husband picked out a beautiful wedding set. I have never seen another one like it. And I get alot of compliments when people see it.
Country-- Whoops! Climb back up on that ole wagon! The new graphic at the bottom is cool.
Fillise-- Good morning to you and Miss Belle!!
JackieO-- I have read soooo many bad things about sugar since starting my weight loss journey.....that it just plain scares me to death. So I don't think I will ever do that. But I have been known to have more of the sugar substituted things than I should, and I think that is just as bad. If you really felt icky....maybe that was a good thing. Now you might not be tempted again.
Jack-k-- What kind of races did you go to? We used to go to the horse races every once in awhile. Always had fun! Never came out winners!! I even went to the dog races once. Glad they stopped those. I didn't enjoy those at all. Hope the hip starts feeling better. It is no fun to be hurting while on vacation. (I am taking it that you are going on vacation!)
Trish-- Congrats!! Staying on plan is awesome!
Chrisd-- The soup was probably okay, unless they used flour to thicken it with. I have a recipe for a broccoli chowder that I make leaving out they potatoes. It is really good during cold weather.
Monet-- Glad the day was okay with the WW. Hope tomorrow goes just as well. I have been thinking Apple pie too. I just may have to give in and do it. But when I do, I know I will want to have a piece every night until it is gone, But I guess this would be okay if I don't have my second starchy carb at lunch huh??
Pancho-- No yeast....it is a quick bread, like banana bread, or zucchini bread. I made some yesterday to freeze and did not use the bread machine. I only used 1 T oil, and added 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce. (Trying to cut down on the fat for me.) Also I used liquid stevia instead of Splenda, so this went in with the wet ingredients instead of the dry. I baked it at 350* for 1hour. It was very good, we had a slice with dinner last night. Now I need to freeze it ASAP or I will be tempted to eat it.
Superdave-- I am sympathetic....my dh just went through all of that. It took them over 5 months to get to the surgery that they did. First it was the MRI, then they wanted to do a Mylogram and Catscan. Then the day of the first surgery, he came down with a gout attack, (because someone made a mistake and told him to discontinue his meds 2 weeks before the surgery!) so they had to postpone it for another 2 weeks. He was in alot of pain for a long time! Hope that you don't have to go through all of that.
Deb-- Maybe you need to find a new computer at one of your garage sales, lol. Then you could have your very own!!
Sef-- Happy Birthday to you....happy birthday to you.....happy birthday dear Sef, happy birthday to you..... and many more!!
Heart-- Sounds like you did a great job at the yard sales. I want to get into town sometime soon to the thrift stores and see what is available. Love to browse through them. I am going to be looking for some canning things. Large stock pots and such. I also like to look at all the denim jumpers and skirts! Now is a fun time for the thrift stores because they have alot of gaudy stuff out for Halloween costumes. I love to see what I could put together. Only dh doesn't get into Halloween like I do, so we end up staying home!!
Well gang thats about it for now. Everyone enjoy the week, and hope we have lots of losers on WIW!!
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 10-06-2003, 07:52 PM GOOD EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!
Skeeter had to be put to sleep this afternoon. He went peacefully, and had no pain during the process. It was remarkably fast, and he was gone before I could blink my eyes.
The Dr discovered a rapidly progressing skin cancer and told me that it would only get worse really quick. Skeeter was one of his first patients 14yrs ago, and I completely trust his judgement.
Skeeter managed a final kiss and nudge with his little nose, so I think he was ready too.
They gave me the option of taking him home and bringing him back another day, but I knew if I didn't do it while I was prepared, I would bring him back.
This was one of the hardest decesions that I've ever had to make, and I'm really having a hard time with it. Kate on the other hand thought of course that he would be coming back home with me and it really blasted her. They were best buddys!
SO...PLEASE FORGIVE me if I'm not around much this week.
I'm having Skeeter cremated and they will call me when he's ready to be picked up. I'll have him put in a really nice box and keep him with me always.
Keep us in your thoughts and prayers
BOB
Debelli 10-06-2003, 08:15 PM Hey All:wave:
No one's home yet and I haven't heard a thing from ELI all day. Finally figured I'd call him and he's in a meeting. It's been over 12 hours since he left the house to go to work:rolleyes:
FILLISE, hoping MICHAEL won't be staying up all night working on this project on Adobe. He actually had something he did sent out to Adobe headquarters but I haven't heard whatever became of it. It amazes me how he could learn this stuff -it's mind boggling!
HEART, sounds like you got lots of bargains this weekend. It was slim pickin's out my way. Enjoy your class tomorrow!!!
MONET, I have read that the DM at brew stores isn't the same. I read one thing, and then I read another. I may just try to make my own since I can find hulled barley down here, but if I didn't have to go through the trouble it would be better as I really don't need all that much. In this book some recipes call for WW flour AND ww bread flour as well, in the same recipe. The book gives a recipe to making your own ww bread flour which includes vitamin C powder and the diastatic malt. Let me know if you find it there. I can't find any brew shops in my area on the web yellow pages, will look in the phone book and see what they say, if we have any places like that.
TEENSY, we do have another computer! It's the problem of hooking in to our main phone line AND with AOL, you can't have 2 people on the same account at the same time, so it would do no good. I just have to be patient:shrug:
BOB, OMG, I have tears in my eyes! I'm so sorry to hear about SKEETER! My heart goes out to you. I so understand how hard this was for you, my MARLO had to be put to sleep as well at the age of 8 and I still haven't gotten over it, 22 years later. I know this was so hard for you but you did it out of love. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you. Anyone who loves a pet totally understands what you are going through at this time {{{{HUGS}}}}:grouphug: I hope KATE will be okay as well.
I'm outta here.
Deb
Pancho 10-06-2003, 08:28 PM Good afternoon! I did get to Whole Foods today and am going to be trying some new recipes this week. I can't wait. I also bought 3 zucchinis to make three loaves of zucchini bread to freeze. They had 2 pints strawberries for $4. I haven't found any that look or smell any good lately. These smell and taste delicius. My DD likes to take them in her lunch for school. I also found whole wheat frozen pie crusts with no hydrogenated oils or anything. I am pumped about this, as I don't want to make my own if I can find them pre-made; lazy...I know, but I'm busy! Also found whole wheat bread crumbs and picked up some more agave syrup (I go through that like crazy).
No news on the camcorder; I'm afraid those memories are gone forever. AND, not to mention the cost of replacing the camcorder before the holidays.
Country: Thanks for the prayers; Delaney seems to be feeling a bit better already. Well, at least you were aware of the bad eating, and now you are working out with Richard; things are looking up;) .
Monet: Maybe the manager got his migraine from the assistant;) .
SuperDave: Do you take credit for your wife's overflowing jewelry wardrobe? What a lucky lady, eh?
Deb: I have put up posters with a post office box, so someone could mail the tape to me, but am not holding out much hope. There are, unfortunately, a lot of bad apples out there, and don't care much about such things. Thanks so much for the recipe; I cannot wait to try it.
Sef: Happy Birthday week. Celebrate all week!
Fillise: Whole wheat pizza crust at a pizza restaurant???? Hold me back!
heart: You are such a bargain shopper. WOW, 178...you got there, and will see it again once your bloating goes down.
Teensy: Thanks for the clarification on the bread recipe. I will experiment with it as you have to find what I like best.
BOB: Your post made me very sad. I have tears in my eyes right now for you. We had to put down two dogs within 4 months of one another, and it was very difficult for the entire family. We held them both as they took their last breaths, and then had to leave them. We did have them both cremated, and their ashes are in our bedroom. I feel like they are still with us sometimes. I read a lot of things like, "The Rainbow Bridge" and other things to help me heal. To some people, animals are just that....to us, they have always been one of the family. I will pray for you to have the strength to get through this difficult time!
Well, better go get dinner started!!
Have a great evening, and I will check in tomorrow a.m.
Nat'
jecrites 10-06-2003, 09:06 PM Hello everyone.
I've been busy today cleaning up in the kitchen and doing laundry. Yesterday the kids found ants coming in the house from the window in the living room. They were weird looking suckers at that. Just plain old ants, but some of them had wings. I had to spray everything down and wash my curtains. The really weird thing is that I know they go for food, but there is no food in the living room, now the kitchen I could understand, but I haven't seen a single ant in there since we moved in here. The neighbor told me that the people in here before us said they had problems with ants in the kitchen.
Heart, You bet. I'll make sure to pop on here and let you and everyone else know how things go as soon as I find out.
BOB, Sorry to hear about Skeeter. You and Kate are in my thoughts and prayers. Pets are like family and it's hard to see them go.
Sef, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!! I know it's early, but I may end up forgetting.
Deb, There is some program for a computer that will let 2 people on the same thing get on at the same time. Our neighbors have theirs set up where they can be online on both of their computers at the same time. Of course I'm not a computer person so I have no clue as to how it works, but they do it. Just thought I'd tell you that it can be done, somehow.
Monet, Glad to hear your day at work was better! Maybe the manager should run the WW off like you said he's done all the other asst. managers.
JackieO, Hello back to you!!!
Jack-k, I hope you find some relief soon.
SuperDave, I hope you find relief soon too
Well I'm off, I'll talk to y'all later.
Jenn
GatorGal 10-06-2003, 09:31 PM BOB--I'm sorry to hear the sad news about your little Skeeter. I hope your heart will heal fast.
Debbie--I went to Israel in the 80's. It was a very interesting trip. We studied several months before we went, and then when we got there we got to see with our own eyes some of the things that Scripture talks about. Like the wall around Jerusalem, where Abraham was buried, and lots of stuff in the TaNaK and also the New Testament. I had friends living there at the time, in Galillee and so I left our group and took the bus up to their home and spent several days there with them. I thought Cuba and China were "more different" than Israel, but lately, perhaps not. I wouldn't want to go there right now either. God's Chosen People are under so much attack, and it must be so frightening to live there now.
Well, I'm having my midterm tomorrow, so gotta study. Bye for now.
GatorGal 10-06-2003, 09:48 PM Monet--I found out about the Hashimoto's after I went to the new doctor (holistic) who had some tests done--Free T3, Thyroid antibodies, T3, T4. My internist just did the TSH and T4 and was happy with the numbers. Little did he know that my T3 was low, even with the synthroid and that my thyroid antibody levels were >90. I was off the chart! So right now the doctor is trying to find out what might be "aggrevating this condition" and see if there might be something to reverse this. Should be interesting! Is it possible to lose any weight with Hashimoto's?
Ellen 10-06-2003, 10:43 PM BOB: I am so sorry to hear about Skeeter. I know your heart is breaking. Just know you and Kate are in my prayers.
GATOR: Any thyroid condition makes it a challenge to lose. Auto immune problems will exacerbate it though. Not sure what causes flares in Hashimotos, but some things I have found important to stay away from include: chemicals...especially cosmetic ones like hair dye, and perm solutions, Alfalfa- it seems to stimulate ANA antibody production, stress and lack of rest, high carb and sugar diet (you ought to be ok there! ). The weird thing about autoimmune problems are that they are so individual. What bothers one, may not bother another. I also found using mono saturated fats, and ones low in arachadonic fatty acids especially, helps. Some people find avoiding the nightshade family of veggies (tomatoes, eggplants, peppers) helpful. Just some thoughts.... Hang in there. At least you are making some progress...now you KNOW what is wrong! Before, you just thought the thyroid was slow...
TEENSY: Can you post your walnut quick bread recipe? I made one tonight that was not quite what I wanted. I can play with it, but maybe I could add apples to yours???? Whaddya think?
FILLISE: Perhaps the weekend of the 25th...or maybe we ought to wait until November, though I keep telling her it is important to get her applications in before Thanksgiving. She doesn't believe me, I am afraid. She suggested I take her out of school for a day! Doesn't that sound just like her?
JECRITES: One can hope he will! :s: She was actually acting rather nice today. We will see how it goes tomorrow. I think the manager is off...but my daughter works tomorrow which is always fun!
Ok, everybody...I boiled two chickens, and have to go bone them. Tomorrow is trash day, and I want to get those bones OUT of the house before the trash men come in the morning...besides, I have to work in the morning!
Sweet dreams!
heartmom 10-06-2003, 11:08 PM Narda- I'm so sorry about you losing Skeeter. When I was 17, I had to put my german shepard, Pup, to sleep. I bawled and bawled. He was the most gentle and loving dog. A true gentlemen. The way he would look at you with his eyes- almost like his spirit was really human. Anyway, I know that you are hurting now, but you made the best choice for Skeeter.
Jecrites- Ants with wings? Aren't those termites?
I've had way too many starches today-lost count. Darn TOM! It defintely has my appetite up this time. Got to do better tomorrow. Actually looking forward to my class tomorrow. I'm trying to get my friend to go with me, but I doubt she will. She wants to lose weight but doesn't want to do the work or discipline that goes along with it. I've tried to tell her about SB several times. She thinks if she skips meals or drastically cuts her portions, she'll lose weight that way. I've tried to tell her that it won't last that way. With SB, you can eat 3 meals and snacks a day and lose. Guess I'll just shut my mouth and maybe she'll figure it out on her own.
I have all these sweaters from last year that are way to big now. I tried to give them away to my friends but they say they are too big for them- they're not. They just don't want to admit that they would fit. I don't understand that. I'm not trying to give them away to be rude- just the opposite. Even when I was a size 24, I never lied about it. And I would have been grateful to receive clothes in excellent condition for free. I think I will have a mini yard sale and see if I can sell them for a couple bucks each. My Mom is on vacation this week, so we're going to the "new" thrift store I found tomorrow. She's always working, so she doesn't have time to yard sale and shop at the thrift shops. My grandmother is going along with us. She has some flowers she bought for my pawpaw's grave, so we'll go there also. He died on Halloween morning, 2 years ago. I miss him alot. I think about him almost everyday. We were really close and he always gave the best advice. Funny how it was always the opposite of my parents, lol. Well, goodnite all...
beachfan37 10-06-2003, 11:54 PM    BOB my heart breaks for you. Last year we had to have my 19 year old shi-tzu put to sleep. I couldn't even go in the room. I was crying so hard that I had to leave him with them and I ran out of the office. You were much braver than I was. There is just a very special bond you have with your best friend. I know it was a big shock for Kate.
We knew Bingo's time was coming and had gotten a puppy about 3 months before. That softened the blow some for my kids but just like with people it doesn't make the hurt go away. Hang in there...we're here for you.
*********************************
I will be gone the rest of the week. My uncle who had been ill for years passed away and I will be going to the funeral tomorrow. Then Wednesday - Saturday I am out of town for work. I'll miss ya'll take care.
Monet...what age is your daughter? My daughter is a junior and will be going to Auburn when she graduates. It's a great school. I would highly recommend a visit and like Susan said, go on a non football weekend. We went last year for a basketball game and had a great time. Also, DS is going tomorrow to interview at Publix for a part-time job. They are a good company to work for...excluding you boss and horrible co-worker! My DH really likes what he does...
Susan...I'll let you know the next time we are coming down. I sometimes go for work but not as often as I did in the past. Glad you had fun with your friends. I had heard Starlight Express was a little outdated but still fun. Did you catch the Southern Women's Show while you were here. I LOVE to see all the booths but missed it this year. This week I'll be in Mobile. I'm hoping to get away some and go over to Gulf Shores for the Shrimp festival.
Debbie...2 teens keep us busy don't they! Mainly I don't get the computer time I used to.
Weight wise I stayed the same this week. I ate right but just didn't lose...oh well. I picked up on the excercising and maybe it is the muscle weighing more!
See ya'll.
Teensybean 10-07-2003, 01:57 AM Good Evening all-- actually it's late again. Most of you are in bed and having sweet dreams by now.
I have a question regarding hydrogenated oils......I was reading in my PP book, and it says that hydrogenated is not the problem. That the Partially hydrogenated is the villian. So would that mean that we can eat the hydrogenated??
Wanted to get in some replies, because I seem to get behind very quickly......
BOB-- I am so very sorry to hear about Skeeter. As a Mommy of three dogs, I know what you must be going through. Just know that he truly loved you as much as you loved him. And that he will not suffer now. God bless you and Kate.
Deb--Guess the second computer idea won't work at your house!! And I agree that school work should come first. We will be patient and wait for your posts!
Pancho-- Sure wish we had more of a selection around here for WW products. I really am going to have to bite the bullet and go to the mall that has the big HS and see what they have.
Jec-- Yuck...I hate ants. We get a few around here in the early spring, but not in the house. Or I haven't found any in the house anyway!
Monet-- It IS an Apple Walnut Loaf...... Here you go.
Apple Walnut Loaf
(1) Ingredients
2 Tbl Butter
1 Tbl milk
1 C Grated peeled Granny Smith Apple
1 egg
1/2 C Chopped Walnuts
(2) Ingredients
1 1/2 C WW Flour
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 C Splenda
1/4 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
Measure and place ingredients from group 1 in bread machine baking pan. Measure and sift together ingredients in group 2. Then place in bread machine baking pan. Select Quick Bread setting, press start.
Per loaf= (Using my ingredients, and using fitday.)
1382 calories
69 fat
18 Sfat
28 poly
5 mono
166 carbs
26 fiber
46 protein
I just made some using the oven instead, and I liked it better. The changes I made are as follows;
1 T oil, and 1/4 cup SF Applesauce, and 1/4 c egg beaters instead of 1 egg. I used liquid stevia instead of Splenda, and put it in with the wet ingredients instead of sifting with the dry.
I put into a loaf pan and baked at 350* for one hour.
Heart-- Enjoy your class tomorrow. I would like to have something like that close to me. But don't so I will continue in my bedroom on my TBT.
Beach-- Sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family in your time of sorrow.
Well I guess that is it for the day......see you all tomorrow sometime.
Fillise 10-07-2003, 02:28 AM BOB--I'm so sorry to hear about Skeeter. I know your heart is broken, but I hope you can take some comfort from the fact that he gave you a "thank you" and a last "I love you" to let you know he was ready. He knew you loved him at the end--so much that you would break your own heart so that he wouldn't suffer. That kind of love is powerful and it will reach across the distance so that, in time, as your heart heals, thoughts of Skeeter will bring a smile to your face and a warmth into your heart. Until then, we'll be here to help you through!:grouphug:

Debelli 10-07-2003, 05:32 AM Yes, another sleepless night! Been up since 3am, lied in bed listening to ELI snore away and finally decided to get up and go on the computer. So here it is, 4am as I start this post! I'm tired, my eyes hurt, I need a good nights rest but it just doesn't seem like it's in the cards for me!
I was having a weird dream, about going to my HS reunion. Mind you, I've never been to a single one of them and there's none in the future that I know of, so whatever prompted me to dream about THAT, I haven't a clue! Tried to go back to sleep but just couldn't.
My sister is bringing over my youngest niece this morning so I can bbsit her while my sister goes to her Dr. appt for the bb2b (baby to be). She still hasn't chosen a name, which I guess is good because all the ones she's picked thus far are weirder than weird. With each kid she has the names get more bizarre!
PANCHO, sounds like you had a good time at the HFS yesterday! FYI, when you go, sometimes they'll have day old breads really cheap, at least they do down here. I bought a loaf, cut it, dried it and threw it in my food processor and made my own bread crumbs. Maybe someone will return the tape, if they take the time to see what's on the tape maybe they will. Did you file a report with the police? Not sure about your area, but if you have any pawn shops around there and the person didn't need a camcorder they may try to pawn it? Who knows, maybe when it fell off the car it broke? Hope you get something back!
JEC, hope you get your ant problem licked. One time I got those crazy ants, haven't a clue where they came from, drove me bonkers!!! If you have a chance, ask your neighbor what they have hooked up that allows them to have 2 computers on line on the same account. I have regular dial up service.
GATOR, it's sad to see a country such as Israel under constant attack. I doubt there will ever be peace in that region of the Middle East. I doubt I'd ever go there.
HEART, in the past I've posted about TOM and increased appetite, it's normal and your body also used up more calories during this time. If nothing seems to satisfy you EAT, but do make sure that it's OP. You may want to try to increase your proteins at this time.
BEACH, sorry to hear about the loss of your uncle. My condolences to you and your family. I don't think I've ever heard of a dog living to be 19 years old - isn't that unusually old for a dog?
TEESNY, the Apple Walnut Bread sounds delish!! Is it moist or a dried bread? Here's what I found in regards to the hydro. and partially hydro oil:
Hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats: These are unsaturated fats that have become hardened through a hydrogenation process. This is done to help snack foods stay fresh on the grocery shelf. But as a result, they contain high levels of trans fatty acids, which are linked to heart disease. They are found in fried foods, commercial baked goods (donuts and cookies), and almost all factory prepared foods (snack foods and chips, dips, dressings, etc.) and margarine. Read the ingredients list on food labels to tell if they contain hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats or trans fatty acids.
Well, that's it, I'm caught up and pooped It's only 4:30am now - still have 1 1/2 hours before the kids should start getting up and get ready for school.
Will check in later!
Toodles
Deb
Ellen 10-07-2003, 07:08 AM I have no idea what time it is...about five am I think. I couldn't sleep either. Was just wide awake! I tried laying there, resting, but was too fidgety, and was afraid I would wake up Tom, so I got up and came down to use his computer.
DEB: Too bad I did not know you were up...we could have IMed or something! ;)
TEENSY: Thanks for the recipe! I will try it when I get home from work this afternoon!
Ok, I think I hear Mr. Tom sneaking around looking for me...better go! Its nice that he misses me when I get up like this!
Emma3Jane 10-07-2003, 09:24 AM Hello Everyone,
Thanks for the welcome, I look forward to getting to know people here too! Just the decision to post, both on the weekly support board and the bio board, has significantly decreased my feeing of isolation. :) Probaly another long postie....
I made a rather momentous decision on Sunday-- I purchased a scale to weigh myself. Bill, my SO, simply stared at me in shock & consternation when I returned home with the scale. He has suggested in the past that we purchase a scale, but I wouldn't permit it.
See, I have issues with scales, with scales being in the house, with me being on a scale. I even get upset when the vet weighs Jabba the Cat! 21 lbs is NOT that large. (side note: Poor Jabba was put on a diet a few years ago; he responded with a all-out peeing campaign, beds, futon, Bill, coats, chairs, anything he could squat on! I surrendered after the down comforter was slaughtered and he ate whatever he wanted! *sigh* www.meankitty.com  )
I guess these are all scars of being an overweight teen whose family was fixated on dieting and image, so that other issues wouldn't be acknowldged. *sigh* Or that other terrible pit, HS girls gym class ...... Somtimes I think I am only sane because I went early to college.
Well, enough of my neurosis..... or not........
Bill just promptly jumped right onto the scale, took the average of three readings (he's a geek too. . .) and recorded his weight in his Excel spreadsheet that he had prepared. He offered to leave the room to let me try the scale, when I realized that immense shame was the motivation for avoiding that scale. So I jumped right on the scale and recorded the average of three readings (I am a geek scientist) in my own spreadsheet.
Et voila! I weigh (with all the usual disclaimers about home scales...) 224 lbs. Interestingly, just 224 lbs... not !224 lbs! OMG! Bill knows oh I am dying the world is ending people hate me I am worthless unlovable ugly plain disgusting Don't tell anyone I'll never be pretty wanted loved....... the downward spiral.
None of the above - just 224 lbs, which means only 60-80 lbs till my goal of either 160 or 140 lbs (I did the arithmetic, not the litany in head while on the scale). What a liberating sense of self worth!
I have struggled with shame my entire life. Through 12 step programs, I have learned that examining these debilitating (untested) feelings in the light of facts releases their hold on me and my actions. So WHY not a scale to give facts about my weight? I am unsettled that after alot of hard work and self-introspection, that this shame, attached so obviously to my body, went undetected. Hmmn... maybe it's the original one.....
So, I have a scale, a spreadsheet and calm motivation. Life is Good!
Now I have to walk the dog, and go to the lab. Work on those pesky job applications and stay legal for lunch.
Jack-K's motivation
"The door to opportunity will not open, unless you give it a push" is a perfect motivation for my job search. Thanks!
Debelli's MM is perfect for my week:
"The sooner you deal with a problem, the less of a problem it will be. The sooner you act on an opportunity, the more value that opportunity can bring. The time to act is now. The longer you wait, the more you put yourself at a disadvantage."
Thanks for being here!
Emma
PS Jabba was put on cat prozac, which calmed his peeing campaign, and has reached and maintained his healthy weight of 16 lbs. He, however, maintains his dislike of scales....
Solly 10-07-2003, 09:30 AM Good Tuesday morning.
Sounds like no one could sleep last night. Maybe it is the moon!
Got my nails done, got white tips and they are already yeloow this morning. Anyone else have acrylics ahve this problem? Also got my hair cut. More layered than short. It is short but she didn't take anything off the length. Eaiser to fix.
Back seems a little better today. Last night, I went to finally sit down on the heating pad. Boy I came off of it quickly. Pains were shooting through my back and hip. Switched to ice and that seemed to help some. We will see as the day goes on. I am foregoing the walking this week. But still doing my wts.
Chris, What a ballgame. I'm sure you are not happy with the outcome, but it turned into a heck of a game. I went to bed after half thinking it was going to be a blow out.
Bob, Payton is the Man!
Dave, Ooh, a disk problem does not sound like a good thing. Hope it is treatable.
Deb, sounds like you are turning into Martha Stewart in the kitchen. Watch out, it could become habit forming. Hope you can get some rest. I was up at 4:45 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. My 2 nieces just had babies and the names they chose are weird too.
Fillise, yes I have acrylics. Have had them for probably 4 or 5 years. Would never go w/o them. Jut don't have time to repaint my nails everyother day. These last at least 2 weeks. Best thing I ever did.
Heart, you are getting as good as Deb with those bargains. Congrats for getting into the 170's. At least you know it's TOM and why you are bloated.
Teensy, yes we went to the horse races. I have been to the dog races in Fla. once. I swear they use the same dogs in each race. I didn't like that either. Yes we are going on vacation to New Orleans.
Bob, I am so sorry about Skeeter. My heart is breaking for you and Kate. It is as hard to lose a pet as a relative. I know you both will miss him terribly. He is lucky that he didn't suffer. You gave him a wonderful home and life. Sending hugs and prayers for you both. :grouphug:
Pancho, Lucky you finding a ww pie crust. I would love to find an already made one. We are supposed to get a Whole Foods this Spring.
Monet, you are a baking fool. How sweet that Tom is looking for you. Dennis would never know I was gone.
Sef, have a great birthday on Friday. I won't be on board so I will send wishes now. :hb: :hat: :balloons:
Gator, good luck on the mid term. You will do fine.
Beach, sorry about your uncle. We will miss you.
Got to get started on this day. Hope to be back later.
Jackie.
jecrites 10-07-2003, 10:06 AM Hi everybody.
Here's a few replies, then I'm off to shower and start working on all this clean laundry I've got still in the baskets, or maybe cleaning the floors, don't know yet which I'll tackle.
Heart, That's exactly what I thought since the neighbor told me that they had/have termites. I asked hubby and he said they were ants and that sometimes the female will have wings. Honestly I have no idea, guess I should call housing and get someone out here, but since I sprayed it down with Raid, they haven't been back. Have fun at the thrift store, wish there was one around here. There was a couple of them in Windsor where we used to live, but I refuse to drive all that way and go back to that place.
Teensy, I hate ants too, but at least here the majority of them aren't those darned fire ants we had in Louisiana. I can deal with the ants easily, it's the darn roaches and spiders I REALLY hate!!! In La. we had huge waterbugs, which I still considered a roach only bigger, and it's hard to get rid of them things!
Deb, Didn't you say your sis has 5 kids already? Heck, it's a miracle that she found names for them at all. When Autumn was born, we didn't have a name for her, mainly because hubby didn't like any I liked and I didn't like his choices. His mom thought we'd be bringing her home calling her baby girl! The nieghbors probably have a cable hook up. That's pretty much what everyone in this area has. I don't even know if there's a regular dial up service in this area. It's pretty weird because this is such a tiny place but we can get cable and dsl hook up, but FIL can't and he's in a bigger place!
Ok, now to decide what I am going to do. I'll talk to y'all later.
Jenn
angehaley 10-07-2003, 10:25 AM Hello to all my SBing FRIENDS.....
Sorry for being MIA.... I am quite the busy one with the house being on the market..... We have had the same couple look at it FOUR times...... and still no contract..... makes you go hum...... ! It has just been CRAZY trying to keep the house spotless and 100% tidy ALL THE TIME (I am anal like that..... NOT gonna have strangers trapesing thru my house... with it a mess........)
Anyway, I think about you all daily... and wonder how everyone is and how they are doing..... but just don't really have the time... to read &/or post.....! :(
Gosh, I sure have missed you..... I am staying OP... but probably a bit on the overindulging side......! It is TOM... and still holding at 150 scale does not want to budge below that mark.... (I keep coaxing it... and telling it... that It will be ok.... and that it is gonna be sorry it waited so long to do it... once it does!!!) LOL!!!
Deb, thanks for sending the e-mail about BoB..... I TOO have tears in my eyes for her...as I know too well what she is going thru..... it is the worst.....!
Sorry can't post to each individually.....
do, want to share a pic of Lilybug in her halloween costume... (had to try it on for size....... it is a 3 month size......... (SHE IS 8 MONTHS......) SHE IS A LITTLE ****........!!!!!;) HOPE THAT SHE STAYS THAT WAY FOR HER WHOLE LIFE... AND DOES NOT FOLLOW IN HER MOMMA'S FOOTSTEPS......!!!!:s:
Take care everyone...... and good luck staying OP...! Hopefully the house will sale soon... and then I will have moving to look forward to..... Thank goodness we are gonna have a moving service come and pack up everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dizzy:

angehaley 10-07-2003, 10:30 AM Forgot to add pic....!!!! :dizzy:
jackieO 10-07-2003, 10:39 AM This board is hopping this morning!!!! Good Morning everyone in Sugarbusters land!!!!!!
Ange- good luck selling the house!
Bob- You are definitely in my thoughts and prayers . Your story also brought tears to my eyes.
Jecrites- In what part of Louisiana did you live?
jackK- you might want to unpack those shorts. Hot here again!!!
Emma- I am still cracking up laughing over your post about the scale. My sentiments exactly. I am looking forward to getting to know you better on this board!!
Deb- Have fun babysitting. Maybe you can take a nap when she goes to sleep. I was looking at the SB photo album yesterday, and your two children are WAY CUTE. I don't own a scanner and only use the computer at my office, but eventually I will try and post a pic!
Hello to Superdave, Beachfan, Susan, Colleen, heartmom, countrymom, pancho, sef, monet, gatorgal, and everyone else. Talk to you soon.
Trishaloo 10-07-2003, 11:16 AM Good morning everybody. I'm sitting here enjoying an apple and cheese for breakfast. I made taco soup in the crockpot yesterday. It wasn't the greatest I've made, but at least it was done when I got home from work and I didn't have to do anything. I'm a nervous wreck with worrying about Jordan. Apparently several boys in their Company have gotten sick with pneumonia. If they get sick and can't train, then it pushes their graduation date back. Oh well, in this situation, no news is good news. Supposedly if he did get sick and put in the "sick platoon" he would get to call us.
I forgot to mention my take on the post. My favorite is a ring, actually 2 of them. My wedding set: Joe and I had them made from our high school class rings; and an antique ruby ring that he got me one year for Christmas.
Crystle - Loved your motivational for this week.
Fillise - Sorry the show wasn't too good. Hope the tickets weren't expensive. If you decide to start getting fake nails, make sure you go to someone that is reputable and uses good quality stuff. I've had mine done for 15 years by the same girl and have never gotten an infection or a fungus of any type. She's not cheap, but she's worth it. I go every 2 weeks and it's my "me time." In fact, I have an appt this afternoon.
JackieO - Sugar will do that to you. Why do you think all those years all we wanted to do after a big Thanksgiving dinner was power nap?
ChrisD - Sorry about your Bucs. I went to bed and the Bucs were ahead by like 21-0 or something like that. I had no idea until I saw Jackie's post this morning. I had to go see for myself. What a game that must have been.
Pancho - Where in Arizona are you? We have a friend that spends the summers in Alpine. I'm not sure where that is, but I think it's on the Eastern side. We may end up driving out for Jordan's graduation from boot camp and will be going through the southern part of Arizona. I'll send you a wave as we go through. I'm so sorry about your camcorder. I hate it when things get stolen. Seth's bike was stolen from the pool this summer (forgot to lock it up). Fortunately, 2 of his friends saw it at the local rec center and had the counselor call the police. It had been registered and they called us. We hadn't even reported it because we thought it was gone forever. Deb's right, file a report and if something turns up, you never know.
Jack-K - I have sculptured nails and have been having them done for about 15 years by the same girl. I always have them painted though.
SuperDave - Sorry about the back. Good luck with the MRI.
Deb - I wish I had some of those pitas. Those sound yummy. I'm not much of a baker, but those sound pretty easy. We have several home brew places around here. Let me know if you need me to look for that diastatic malt for you, whatever that is.
Heartmom - I don't think what you said or the way you said it would have offended anyone. You were simply voicing your opinion to friends. That's what is so great about this board. We're all friends and should feel comfortable enough to talk and share about most anything without someone being offended (as long as we put it nicely, of course). Way to go on the yard sale finds.
BOB - I am so sorry to hear about Skeeter. I know what a joy he was to both you and your mom. Please know that we're thinking about you.
Jecrites - I hate those flying ants. We used to get them when we had our pool. Make sure you treat your yard and then you can usually keep them out of the house easier. Sometimes they're going after water or if it's rained a lot, they're getting away from the water. Yes, in Texas we have lots of ants.
Beachfan - Sorry to hear about your uncle.
Emma - I love your name. Welcome aboard. If you haven't figured out yet, this board is great. It's a totally supportive, nonjudgmental place to come where everyone understands exactly what you're going through.
Angehaley - I must have missed it, where are you moving?
Whew, ok I think I'm caught up. Sorry if I missed anyone. Have a great day everyone.
Trish
Trishaloo 10-07-2003, 11:17 AM OK, I posted before I saw the pic, Ange, that baby is tooooo cute!!
jecrites 10-07-2003, 11:18 AM Man I swear if it ain't one thing it's another!!! My stupid dryer is either dead or acting like it. My towels have been turned on in that thing 2 times now and they are still just as wet as they were when they first went in there. I don't know how I'm supposed to dry anything now, I have no clothes line to put them on, and even if I did they probably wouldn't dry out there today, not raining but extremely foggy and cool. Hubby is supposed to come home at lunch and "take a look at it," yeah right, like he's done anything around here the last month or so. Sorry about the complaining, I'm PMSing.
I forgot to tell y'all how the family liked/disliked the cauliflower "mashed potatoes." Well, Katie and hubby liked them pretty good, but Kerri and Autumn took one bite and said yuck. Myself, I could eat them, but would rather have the broccoli. If I get to wanting mashed potatoes really bad I'll eat them, but really haven't wanted the taters too badly. I'll have to make them when hubby's parents come up here just to see what they think. They eat cauliflower some, so they may like it like hubby did, who knows?
JackieO, We were in Bossier City/Shreveport for 4 years at Barksdale AFB. I hated it, but after moving up here, I'd go back there any day!
Gotta go for now talk to y'all later.
Jenn
Ange, OOOOOOO, what a thing to say about your baby! No really, I've said that same thing before about all 3 of mine, and sometimes still do. :o
Pancho 10-07-2003, 12:11 PM Good Tuesday morning all:
I went to see "Under the Tuscan Sun" last night with some "mom" friends of mine, and YES I did have popcorn. hadn't seen some of these moms in 3-4 months, and they were shocked with my weight loss. One of them said, "you are too pretty to hang out with us now....we won't invite you anymore (ha)." Boy, you know who your friends really are  . I really enjoyed the movie. It is worth the cost of admission just for the absolutely breathtaking scenery. The movie had some serious/funny moments, and was a nice break to get out of the house for a little while.
Trishaloo: I live in the Cave Creek/Anthem area (this is about 30 miles north of downtown area). I hope Jordan doesn't get sick.
Deb: I will call the police department to see if they can even file a report for something like that; I have no identifying info. on the camcorder at all. Who thinks they would ever lose their camcorder???? Gheez! Never thought about making your own bread crumbs; should be easy enough. Sorry you had a difficult time sleeping.
Ange: Good luck selling your house; it's a pain to have to keep showing it. Your DD is precious. I have the opposite problem.... Delaney is almost 15 months and weighs 27 pounds. She is in a 24 mo/2T size already. She has been big from birth (7 lbs 11 oz), being born 1 month early. My oldest has always been long & lean. It took her over a year to hit 20# to turn her carseat around. Britt is going to be Snow White, and Delaney Blue (from Blue's Clue) this year for Halloween.
jecrites: Those could be termites! Have you had a lot of rain lately? They probably are not in your walls, but just came in from the rain. We had the same problem last year after the monsoon season. The females have wings and lay eggs in bedding, clothing, boxes, etc... We had to tear the room apart that they were in and had an exterminator out to spray that room only. There were probably 100 of them. The tore up the carpet and checked around and determined that they were not in the walls; they were just in from all the rain. Sorry to hear about the dryer.
Jack-K: I stopped getting my nails down after getting married (nearly 10 years ago) to save money, and haven't had them done since. I never got the French manicure though because the same thing happened to my nails; they would turn yellow within a few days. I'm sure you will enjoy your easy hair-do. I keep threatening to cut all of Britt's hair off; it is such a hassle to brush through those knots daily.
Emma: Having a scale and Weigh-in-Wed will help keep you accountable. Don't get obsessed with it, and you will be fine. I should take my own advice there;) . I weigh every day because I am in the maintenance stage, and want to make sure not to get out of that stage. If the scale goes up, then I make adjustments to my diet for the day and see if it is back down the next day. When I was in the process of losing, I tried to weigh only once a week since weight fluctuates so much. Always weigh first thing in the morning without any clothes on, after you go to the bathroom;)
beach: So sorry to hear about your uncle. We will miss you and look forward to your return.
heart: You are being a good friend, and your advice is falling on deaf ears. Way too many people feel that skipping meals or not eating much is the way to lose weight.....they have no idea how wrong they are. I would have never thought that eating as often as I do would allow me to lose/maintain weight. That is what we have been taught for so many years, and it is difficult to change the frame of mind of so many. She should know just from your awesome success how well it works. You tried! Enjoy your class!
Well, we are expecting rain today; hope it pours!!!
I'll check in later. Everyone have a great OP day!!!
Nat
Solly 10-07-2003, 12:20 PM Trying to keep caught up.
Emma, we were posting at the same time. What an interesting post. Since you have so many issues with the scale, I might warn you not to weigh everyday. The shock may kill you. The daily flucuations for no reason are hard to handle. I suggest weighing on WIW only.
Ange, what a cutie, she will get lots of treats. Sorry you can't be with us much, but we understand. Drop in when you can.
JackieO, I plan on bringing shorts. THe hotter the better.
Trish, sure hope Jordon doesn't get sick. Keep your fingers crossed. Your ring sounds lovely. Good idea to use those high school rings that just lay in the jewelry box.
Jecrites, Do you all have a laundry mat close by? That may be your only option for a while.
Jackie
chrisd 10-07-2003, 12:32 PM Hey everyone! Very sad day around here. But, its just a game right? Blah, blah, blah! Just a quick post...I have to go get ready to take Dominic to my moms for the day! She is on vacation and wants him for the day! Gotta love that!
BOB - Im so sorry to hear about Skeeter. You are in my thoughts.
DEB - Thank you so much for taking the time out to get me those PB cookie recipes. You are tooo too good to me. You need some sleeping pills or something. you dont get enough sleep.
PANCHO - How is Delaney doing? Any better today? I go through Agave like crazy too. I cant even tell you how many bottles I have been through in 2 months. I wish it wasnt so expensive. Isnt it nice to get compliments like that...I love it! Gives you such a boost!
ANGE - can she be any cuter?? What a doll baby in that costume. Welcome back...Ive been wondering where you've been!
JACKIE - Yep..yep..yep. I cant even believe it. Im so disgusted really. I wish I would of went to bed instead of staying up until 130am....watching that crap. They got so cockey and lazy in the 4th quarter. Im really ashamed of them. I have to stop dwelling on it. When I woke up this morning its the first thing i thought about. Im embarrassed for them. But again, I must stop dwelling and stop taking it so damn personally. I have a problem with stupid losses like that! But, good for Dungy and Happy Birthday to him. And good for Manning, he shined in the 4th q. They deserved to win...as much as I hate saying that. See Im getting pissed again just talking about it...so on that note Im done. Hows the hip???
TRISH - Im sorry too..and thank you. Im sick over it. I wish I would of went to bed too!
have a good day guys!
Chris
Emma3Jane 10-07-2003, 01:01 PM Hi Everyone,
BOB—I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep your family in my prayers this week. I think the burden of ‘making the decision’ also magnifies the pain. You are lucky that you had a trusting relationship with your vet. That is priceless.
My older DS Lois had to have her Garfield (18 yo) put down this past spring. I was in with her, since it seemed extra difficult to lose your cat to cancer just like our Mom. Her vet is a smart and caring person. I even drive 5.5 hours to have him care for my ‘geriatric’ cats!
Even Mom lost her two cats (her snuggle companion Emmie, only 3 yrs and Pumpkin, only 8 yrs) the summer before she died. It was just awful, and it was an ‘unknown’ wasting disease. In contrast to Lois, Mom’s vet was a quack. Well, it turned out that the cats caught the ‘disease’ at the (sub-standard) quack vet office that tried to take advantage of the fear/grief to charge over $1000. Lucky for Mom, I have friends who are vets, and I ‘negotiated’ with the quack. The quack even called Mom while she was in the hospital recuperating from surgery to tell her that Emmie had died. I went with my younger ‘pod’ sister Carol (I suppose I’ll have to explain that in a later post. :) ) to help and support her while she took Emmie to another vet for the cremation. The difference the vet’s attitude makes in the whole process is absolutely clear because while Lois grieved, Mom & Carol felt guilt over the experience which exacerbated the grief.
Debelli- Thanks for the compliments on my writing! :o I am technically a biochemist, with a PhD in biochemistry. However, have degree, will study whatever you want & can get funded! (read: I beg for my living…..) I currently study how neurons die in the central nervous system. As a model, I use a retrovirus that infects rats (only-- I did my lab stint with human pathogens like HIV during my two years at Institut Pasteur in Paris France :) ), and study how the different cell populations respond to the infections and how these responses kill neurons. What is learned from this model is relevant to HIV dementia, MS, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and even Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. As a geek, I am compelled to confess that my favorite equipment are my way cool fluorescent microscope rig and a workhorse 1960’s vintage microtome!
All Thrift Shoppers: I too love to thrift shop. I am a sucker for vintage clothes and HATS! HATS! & more HATS! Here in Tarrytown, yard sales are called ‘tag sales’ & are usually IN someone’s house. :?: So all nosy busybodies go to ‘tag sales’ often just to see someone’s house?? Weird sorta—I just live here. :smug:
Well, I am just about finished with my lunch. Leftover chicken over Caesar salad with grated parmesan cheese. Must return to work. But speaking of food reminds me that I am looking forward to experimenting with the tempting recipes posted by everyone. The first attempt will be apple-walnut loaf, since I drooled on the keyboard reading that post.
Thanks everyone!
Emma
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 10-07-2003, 01:02 PM AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!!
I just wanted to drop by and thank everyone for their kind and warm thoughts for Skeeter. I went to work today, but my boss had to send me home...I just couldn't function...I'm about to climb up in the four poster for the afternoon, but before I do, I wanted to share this little ditty with you...I needed a laugh, and it came along just in time.
GARDEN SNAKES ARE DANGEROUS!
Green garden grass snakes can be dangerous. Yes, grass snakes, not just rattlesnakes.
A couple in Sweetwater, Texas had a lot of potted plants, and during a recent cold spell, the wife was bringing a lot of them indoors to protect them from a possible freeze.
It turned out that a little green garden grass snake was hidden in one of the plants and when it had warmed up, it slithered out and the wife saw it go under the sofa. She let out a very loud scream.
The husband, who was taking a shower, ran out into the living room naked to see what the problem was.
She told him there was a snake under the sofa. He got down on the floor on his hands and knees to look for it. About that time the family dog came and cold nosed him on the rear. He thought the snake had bitten him and he fainted.
His wife thought he had a heart attack, so she called an ambulance. The attendants rushed in and loaded him on the stretcher and started carrying him out. About that time the snake came out from under the sofa and one of the Emergency Medical Technicians saw it and dropped his end of the stretcher.
That's when the man broke his leg and why he is still in the hospital.
The wife still had the problem of the snake in the house, so she called on a neighbor man. He volunteered to capture the snake. He armed himself with a rolled-up newspaper and began poking under the couch. Soon he decided it was gone and told the woman, who sat down on the sofa in relief.
But in relaxing, her hand dangled in between the cushion where she felt the snake wriggling around. She screamed and fainted, the snake rushed back under the sofa, and the neighbor man, seeing her laying there passed out tried to use CPR to revive her.
The neighbor's wife, who had just returned from shopping at the grocery store, saw her husband's mouth on the woman's mouth and slammed her husband on the back of the head with a bag of canned goods, knocking him out and cutting his scalp to a point where it needed stitches.
An ambulance was again called when it was determined that the injury required hospitalization.
The noise woke the woman from her dead faint and she saw her neighbor lying on the floor with his wife bending over him, so she assumed he had been bitten by the snake. She went to the kitchen, brought back a small bottle of whiskey, and began pouring it down the man's throat.
By now the police had arrived. They saw the unconscious man, smelled the whiskey, and assumed that a drunken fight had occurred. They were about to arrest them all, when the two women tried to explain how it all happened over a little green snake.
The ambulance arrived and took away the neighbor and his sobbing wife.
Just then the little snake crawled out from under the couch. One of the policemen drew his gun and fired at it. He missed the snake and hit the leg of the end table that was on one side of the sofa. The table fell over and the lamp on it shattered and as the bulb broke, it started a fire in the drapes.
Another policeman tried to beat out the flames and fell through the window into the yard on top of the family dog. The startled dog jumped up and raced out into the street, where an oncoming car swerved to avoid it and smashed into the parked police car and set it on fire.
Meanwhile, the burning drapes had spread to the walls and the entire house was blazing. Neighbors had called the fire department and the arriving fire truck had started raising his ladder when they were halfway down the street. The rising ladder tore out the overhead wires and pulled out the electricity and disconnected telephones in a ten-square city block area.
Time passed...
Both men were discharged from the hospital. The house was rebuilt. The police acquired a new car, and all was right with the world.
About a year later the original couple were watching TV and the weatherman announced a cold snap for that night. The husband asked his wife if she thought they should bring in their plants for the night.
She shot him.
Thanks again for all you're kind thoughts...
BOB
CountryMom4Him 10-07-2003, 02:10 PM Today is one of those do nothing kinda days. I should be doing chores but naaaaaa they'll be there later. :) I had to take Britt to work at 8 and BJ to work at 11. That boy has to learn to drive.
Emma....loved your thoughts on the scales. I have a love hate relationship with mine. Your work sounds very exciting and way over my head. :)
Jack-K...Britt gets the white tips but pays a little extra to get something done that keeps them white but I can't remember what it's called. I will ask her when I pick her up this afternoon.
JackieO...thank you for the howdy today.
Ange...can you say too cute! She is adorable.
Poncho....hey skinny. What a compliment from your friends. ((hugzz))
(((((Bob))))) Thanks for the funny. I love it.
ChrisD...enjoy your down time. With five of them it's not often that I'm away from them. But sometimes my daughter watches them and I sneak out for a bit..love it.
Jenn...is the dryer tumbling? If not its probably just the belt. Very easy to change. Robert just had to fix ours. If it's the heating element I bet those are pretty easy also. There wasn't a lot going on in the dryer when we took it apart.
Trish...praying for Jordan. I know you can't wait to get to see him again.
Monet and Deb....I hope ya'll get some rest this evening. I've been waking up a lot at night and I am wiped out.
Tammy....if you are lurking..howdy!
It's that time. The children think it's time to eat.
Love and hugs,
Crystle

Fillise 10-07-2003, 02:16 PM Morning all!
I'm back from teaching my class and ready to tackle the pile of work at the home office. But first I wanted to stop and visit with my friend here for aminute.
Last night I had dinner with Michael Gorbechev. OK, techinically he wasn't at my table, but he was at the next table over. He was here to give a lecture last night. So that was my brush with fame for yesterday!
Heart--Don't you just HATE the TOM weight gain????? Oh well, at least you know it will go away in a few days.
Monet--Sounds like yesterday wasn't too bad--hope today goes well too. November might be better for me--a lot depends on when I decide to have this surgery. If I do it the first of Dec (like I want to) then I have to get everything for Christmas done by Thanksgiving. I'll probably know more about that by the end of mext week. Actually, it wouldn't be a bad idea for y'all to be here on a school day. We could arrange for Laura to sit in on a class if there is something she in interested in!
Deb--Get some sleep girl! I hope Michael's project goes ok--I'm shipping mine off to the publisher in a few minutes--Wheew!
Pancho--So sorry to hear about the camcorder--at least you have the real memories--the ones in your mind!!!! So as long as you don't lose your mind you will be OK! (Some of on the board would be in BIG trouble!!!!HAH!)
Jenn--Ick, ants. I have problems from time to time. They are also attracted to water--so they are getting either food or water somewhere.
Anna--So sorry to hear about your uncle. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers. Please do let me know when you get down this way. I'd love to visit with you.
Colleen--mmmm, that apple walnut loaf sounds good! I'll have to try it.
Emma--Welcome aboard! I am glad/sorry that you now have a scale in your house. It's a usefull tool, but I am the woman that beat her scale to death with a hair brush when it registered an unexpected (and unwarrented) spike in weight after weeks and weeks and weeks of being good. I hope you will have more self control. I can sympathize with Jabba because if someone else puts me on a diet I react exactly the same way. Shreddind and eating everything in sight is a perfectly appropriate response to forced starvation. That's why we all know you gotta make the decision yourself. And it sounds like you are learning to accept the "facts" without the emotional baggage. That's a HUGE step--congrats!
Jackie--I think I'm going to have to break down and get the nails. I have a friend that does my manicures and I will hate to tell her that I will stop coming, but the nails are splitting and peeling and just will not grow!!!! I want pretty nails!
Ange--What a sweeiie!!! Thanks for sharing the picture!
Trish--I've been asking round town and think I've found someone that is good for the nails--so now all I have to do is take the plunge.
Jenn--My DM's dryer wouldn't dry clothes and my Dad and I unhooked the hose and cleaned all the lint out--even got it from the hose to the vent under the house. She says her dryer works like a charm now!
Nat--I'd like to see Under the Tuscan Sun. But I read the book and the woman in the book is older. I can't stand the way Hollywood only has use for the young and the beautiful. The real woman that wrote that book is interesting enough for a movie. I don't know if I can get past that.
Chris--Let it go!!!!! It's not SEC football, after all. heh heh heh.
BOB--I hope you get some rest today--we are here for you when you need us.
Have a good day everyone!
Susan
Fillise 10-07-2003, 02:18 PM CRystle--we were posting at the same time! I hope you have a great day and I think you deserve some down time!
Susan
jecrites 10-07-2003, 03:04 PM Fillise, I had to laugh at your post to Emma about beating your scales with a hairbrush. That is too funny. Knowing my luck with hair brushes, I'd end up breaking it. Although I did beat my dryer one time because the kids have used the door for a climbing tool and it won't stay shut unless you prop it, now with it being on a slick concrete basement floor the stick won't stay in place very good and it made me mad one day so I wacked it a good one, not that it helped any, but made me feel a little better.
Country, I think it's tumbling. All I know is it was turned on 2 times and ran the full cycle and went off like normal but my towels are still just as wet as they were to start with. Hubby looked at it, but I don't know if he found out anything useful, and of course his lunch break isn't enough time to take it apart and look at it. I may have to see if I can "borrow" the neighbors dryer and get my 2 loads dried, the one in the dryer now and the one in the wash waiting to dry. I just went down there to get the stuff out and he's got it running and it's actually warm, I hope it works!
Debelli 10-07-2003, 03:29 PM Hey All!
My sister came at 11:45pm to p/u BAILEY. She was a bit miserable this morning, on and off crying. She finally fell asleep in my lap as I rocked her. I tried to put her on the floor as it wasn't so comfortable for me but she woke up so I had this little log on my chest sleeping for 1 1/2 hours! At least she woke u happy, and only 5 minutes before my DS showed up.
Had some things to do so wasn't able to get in a nap. May try aftr I p/u MICHAEL from school before I have to run back and get LAUREN at 6:430pm
MONET, is your arse dragging like mine today? Looks like a few of us were up before the crack of dawn. Here's hoping to get in a nap after I get MICHAEL.
EMMA, first, PLEASE, don't become a scale-a-holic like me. It's a tough addiction to break-worse than chocolate I think! It can make or break some people. You should read WHY THE SCALE LIES which I do believe is on the RECOMMENDED READING BOARD. Okay, now to the family and weight. Are we related? Girl, we should talk! If your Grandmother's name is Gertrude (get the RUDE at the end of her name) then we're in BIG trouble! Really, if we could talk you'd see there are other families that are like yours and I think my GM was the head of the conspiracy!!!! Umm, if it becomes to much, chuck the spreadsheet and have BILL hide the scale! You really sound like you have an interesting profession. I've copied what you wrote to me to show MICHAEL, my DS, who's a senior in HS this year who wants to be a pediatric surgeon. He would LOVE to go to France to study, he took 5 years of French and loves the language and speaks it with ELI at home quite often. Loves some of the same movies you do! Everyone things IB students are geeks too, but you're not geeks, just too smart for the rest of us stupid people to understand;) I swear, MICHAEL lost me in 3rd grade - I feel so stupid most of the time!!! Garage sales, tag sales, etc. - love them all!!! I like going in houses too when given the chance, some are beautiful and others you think you better go and see if you have some sort of protective gear in your car to pull out and wear!
JACKK, Martha Steward, not in a million years! Just found something I haven't screwed up on but was able to perfect before I gave up! What names did they chose - maybe I'll pass them over to my sister, the weirder the better she says! Her latest idea was ASHTON, not a weird name per se, but one associated with a BOY! Hope you get some butt relief, this can't be good for you mentally!
JEC, yes, DS has 5 and this is #6. My BIL doesn't seem to have a say in the name per se, he just says no to what he doesn't like and she continues looking but he doesn't say what names he does like because he couldn't come up with anything weird enough off the top of his head and he's surely not in to reading baby name books or hitting the websites out there. Hope DH can figure out what's wrong with the dryer, hopefully something easy. Oh, don't I know if it's not one thing it's another, I'm just waiting for "the other" to come next!
ANGE, first off ADORABLE!!! Second, hope you get that house sold. Heck, I'd ask the couple who's come 4 times why they keep coming, nothings going to change, rooms aren't going to get bigger. I could understand 2 times, 3rd time to make a decision, but 4? Hope things settle down before long so we can have you back full force:D
JACKIE, don't I wish I could of taken a nap when my niece was here, that was impossible though. I was so uncomfortable on the couch with her lying on top of me. This one weighs what seems to be a ton (she's almost 1 1/2yrs old). Thanks for the compliments on my two, they'll do in a pinch;) Looking forward to seeing a pic soon-if you can get it scanned and e-mail me with it I can get it up there for you, or at least try!!!:)
TRISH, thanks for the offer on the malt and brewing places, MONET mentioned the same thing. I need to find out if the malts are the same for baking, I've read they aren't and with me not knowing diddly, have to look in to it because if I screw it up once I'm done with it!!! Hey, I can always ship you some pita from DAILY BREAD!!!! TRISH, you KNOW me, I can't cook, much less bake-if I can make this you can too!!!!
PANCHO, that's nice that you had a nice evening out with some friends, enjoyed the movie, yourself AND gained some well deserved compliments!! :D I'm planning on seeing that movie as well. Do you have the model # of the camera, from the book? Did you ever register it, have the number written somewhere?
CHRIS, so what did you do today with having a free day? In the kitchen baking maybe? Maybe you need to bake me something and lace it with sleeping pills?!? I will know by tonight about next week. ELI has to make his schedule if I want him to go, so now I have to corner MICHAEL and get an answer.
Gotta run, will try and get on the computer later if I can to p/u where I've left off.
Toodles
Deb
GatorGal 10-07-2003, 04:06 PM Emma--You say you were in France studying at the Institut Pasteur. Do you speak French?
Monet--Thanks for the info re. Hashimoto's. Actually, the only manifestation is my weight gain and the difficulty losing anything. I feel great; I have lots of energy, have thick hair, etc. etc. Actually, there are a few minor other things, but nothing really very noticeable, except for the weight. The doctor is running tests to see what might be causing it, such as heavy metals in my body, etc. I am trying this week to have zero carbs, except for veggies. I have not had any fruit, but have had broccoli, squash, spinach, tomatoes, peppers, and lots of lettuce. Maybe this will jump start me into losing. If not, maybe I should shoot myself. Either that or go out to Cold Stone and get a giant sundae!!
YellowRose 10-07-2003, 04:35 PM Hi,
The fall weather is starting to show up around here with pretty foliage and cool weather. I will enjoy it while I can.
Monet: Thanks for posting the recipe for the WW crust. I have tried several times to make one and it has failed me. They always seem to break apart too easily. I will try your recipe and I bet I will have better luck. I wonder if spelt flour would work?
Trish: I wrote late Friday on the board....did you get my message about the Aunt Gussie's, etc? When the time gets closer for you to go to Galveston, let me know and I can get you the names of non-tourist places to eat since my daughter lives near there. Or good tourist places to eat if you'd rather. SB legal, of course!
BOB: Oh, Bob, I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your good friend Skeeter. It seemed like he was a member of the board also.
Debbie: Thanks for posting the pita bread recipe. Ray and I love to use pita bread instead of other breads for our sandwiches. On the pantry...I guess my spell check failed me on that one. I bought two Sheldon chicken pot pies at Feelin Great HFS which is now located near Harris Teeter on Old Spartanberg Hwy. in Hendersonville. They cost $2.20. Is that a fairly good price? I think everything around here costs more because we are in a tourist area.
Okay, on to think about a walk.
chrisd 10-07-2003, 04:46 PM Hello everyone. getting ready to go pick up the little man. He ha been at my moms since 12pm. She wouldnt let me come pick him up, he is being a very good boy! Thats because I am not there! lol.
DEB - Didnt bake today, but I did shop! I went and bought a new shirt for Saturday ni |
