GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our
MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, there's 2 of them to read today:

ROOM TO IMPROVE

Do your best, and then make it better. Whether you're ahead or whether you're behind, it's an opportunity for you to improve. The mistakes of yesterday offer priceless lessons for today. The victories of today provide the resources to reach even higher tomorrow. When you can improve upon what is, there's no need to worry about what has been. And you can always improve upon what is.

There is always room for improvement, and truly what a blessing that is. For it creates real and substantial opportunity in each and every moment. Improve upon the victories, and improve upon the disappointments. Each situation, in its own way, can spur you to further improve.

Every day, no matter what else it brings, also brings the opportunity to improve. Take those opportunities often, and be amazed at how far you can go.

WIND AGAINST YOUR FACE

The faster you move forward, the more the wind blows against your face. When you encounter much difficulty and resistance, it is because you're in the process of making significant progress. Those who have no problems are those who never venture out to accomplish anything. Those who face the most challenges are those who end up creating the most value.

When a particular problem arises, it is because you have progressed to the point where you can deal with it. When a challenge comes along, that's because you are truly ready for where it can bring you.

See the obstacles as gateways and you'll see their true value. Each new challenge is a stepping stone, a waypoint on the journey to real and meaningful accomplishment.

Feel the stiff wind as it blows against your face. And know that what you're feeling is your rapid movement forward.

THIS WEEKS WEEKLY CHALLENGES:

We continue with our on-going challenges of DRINKING AT LEAST 64oz OF WATER A DAY, as well as trying to get in at least 3 DAYS OF EXERCISE

Due to the slow week on the board last week, with the holiday and all, I'm still looking for those ON THE RUN FOOD IDEAS from everyone! Since it's summer time, I think it's really important now, with many going on vacation, myself included, to try and make a list of car-friendly foods that we can keep on hand in the car. So, once again, I'm repeating last weeks challenge. Next time you go to the store, try to see what foods are available that would be easily stored in your car, not requireing any special storing, that you could easily eat that helps you stay OP when you can't get to anything other than junk - as I mentioned last week, things like pop-top cans of tuna, keep packets of mayo, mustard and ketchup in your car, pop-top cans of sf, waterpacked fruit, LAUGHING COW RF CHEESE WEDGES, WW CRACKERS, etc. I think we can all benefit from the ideas!!!!

Good Monday Morning:wave:

Icky morning here. Woke up thinking I was hearing the shower going but it was rain. Not unusual here in Miami smack dab in the summer time. Actually, I like the rain and overcast skies because it makes it less hot here. The other day it was sunny, 95 degrees and sweltering heat and I hate it!

BEACH, I totally agree about trying to teach the kids about the rules of the road being harder to teach them than the actual driving. The driving a car comes with practice but the rules of the road, that's a whole other story! There's so many things that can go wrong. I try to point them out to them when I drive but I think I may scare them cause it doesn't matter where we are, or the situation, there's always SOMETHING to say:shrug: Miami has the WORST drivers, I'm sure! People come here from other countries and take the driving test but have their own set of rules. I told them they'd both know the parking lot at the college like the back of their hands before I even think about letting them out on a real road, which will definitely be in an abandoned area far out in farm country somewhere. I'm not thrilled about either of them driving and I'm going to make sure that they learn as much as they can before they can get their actual license in a year. MICHAEL won't get his until right before he goes to college, where he won't need or have a car and the only reason he'd have to drive is if he was the designated driver and using someone else's car. I doubt even that would happen, but if needed, at least he'd know how to drive - driving in an area he's never driven before, they'd be lucky if they didn't end up in another state with his sense of direction!!! Glad to hear you had a OP weekend, me too:) A few weeks ago I recommended a book that I think you'd like. Try to find it at the library, it's called THIN TASTES BETTER.

FILLISE, you sure do know how to write! Great article. I hope you get a lot of positive responses from it. Getting packed????

Well, I'm going to go get LAUREN up so she can go to camp. Busy week for her as they have performances for summer camps as well as her FRIDAY NIGHT performance where family and friends get to see her. For those of you who have NO clue what I'm talking about, she's in CHICAGO playing the part of
MA MA:)

Will check in later today!

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK!!!!

Morning all!

Ah-it's easy to reply when you are the first one on the board after Deb on Monday! :)

I'm trying to get a lot of work done today so I can begin packing for Wednesday. I'd like to leave as soon as it gets light on Wed so that we can get a good bit of the trip under our belts while the temperature is relatively cool.

Deb--Good luck with the kids, the cars, and your nerves!!! Some of the food I like to munch on when on the go:

Carbolite bars--this is the one time I'll eat meal replacement bars--but you have to be careful, so many are actually loaded with sugar.

Celery stickes with dressing (ranch or blue cheese) good to keeping in a cooler on the seat next to you.

Nuts

Grapes

Cheese--some of the pre-sliced cheeses are especially good for for this.

When on a long trip my main concern is that the food be SB legal--there are so many temptations on the road and it is so easy to give into boredom, that I feel like I've done well if everything I eat is SB legal even if it is more than I normally would have!

That's it for me this morning. I hope everyone has a great day and that this is the start of a great SB week for everyone!

Well, a new week is here! I had a bit of a rough day yesterday. I had some kind of bladder/urinary problem that manifested itself with pain. I drank a bunch of unsweetened cranberry juice and water and took some tylenol, and today I seem to be back to normal. Don't know what brought that on. Perhaps not drinking enough water with the increased protein. I don't know. All I know is that it felt just like bad TOM cramps, but since I'm past that I knew it was something else. Am not walking today, but hope to get back out there tomorrow.

I can't remember who it was who was inquiring about making smoothies in the blender vs. the food processor. I did a little experimenting and found that the blender does equally as well for me as the food processor. In fact, maybe a little better. Perhaps whoever it was needed to add a little more liquid to the smoothie to get those ice chunks to grind up. Here's my :recipe":
1 cup water
1 T unsweetened cranberry juice concentrate
1/2 t stevia powder (I use Stevia Plus)
1 scoop of protein powder (I use Whey To Go)
1 Cup crushed ice (it definitely should be crushed, rather than cubes)
4 - 6 frozen strawberries, depending on size.
I put all this in the blender and pulse for a few seconds and then blend on high until smooth. This is less foamy than in the food processor. The FP smoothy is amost all very thick foam, which is fairly filling with all that air. :)

My little gold-wing swallowtail caterpillars are eating like crazy and are now fat little sausages. I may have to buy another vine just to keep them fed. I hope they will go into chrysalis stage SOON! I had 3 on the vine outside, but the wasps ate all of them. :( I am planning on building a screen box today in which to raise all those "cute" caterpillars.

Have a great day, all my SB friends.

Oh Lordy, it's been almsot 2 weeks since I've been on here, and they haven't been easy ones. The computer crashed, which was the first reason. It's been up since last Tues but I haven't hasd a second, with the holiday and all. I made it trough Hannah's bridal shower and bachelorette party without killing her, which is certainly an achievement. It was interesting to watch her and the 'bimbo bridesmaids' do their partying. She was so smashed by the time the limo dropped us off! She had 3 Long Island Teas, a few margaritas and 21 SHOTS!!!!!!! The proof was all over my bathroom by the next morning. I did have 2 drinks, and they weren't SB friendly. Oh well.

Selah had her 6 mo appointment this week. She is 26 1/4 inches long and weighs 14lb 13oz. She has a really bad spot on the back of her head. I have been putting her Exema cream on it, but it hasn't helped and keeps getting worse. I had the Dr look at it but he never said anything. It looks really bad now, so I think I need to take her back in.

I have been doing pretty well. Eating has been good, although not 100%. I'm doing well at sticking to 1 or 2 starches a day. It's difficult! I found a recipie for Wheat Germ Brownies that is AWESOME. I'm going to post it later.

On Wed I weighed in at 176. I have 3 weeks to Hannah's wedding, so I'm trying to really go hard core and lose 6 more. I've been floating between 180 and 176 for way too long now.

Selah is up, so I'd better get going for a wlak or I will never do it.

I'm going to backtrack and read how you have all been. I'll post some personal notes later.

I live in the car, and I hate it. But I do keep snacks because my bloodsugar is so out of control If I don't eat snacks. Here's my list:

Car Snacks

I have a little basket in the back seat with snacks
Snyders Oat Bran Pretzels*
Rye Crisps -seasoned*
Dried Fruit*
Mixed nuts*
Beef Jerkey
Juice boxes
Bottled water

I keep it in the back seat so that I can't get to it unless I really want to. I had it in the passenger seat at first, but I did way too much snacking.

I keep the following in the fridge so that I can grab it when I am running out the door

a bowl with 6 boiled eggs
String cheese
Summer sausage
Carrots
Celery
Cauliflour & brocolli
Cream cheese
Ranch and Blue Cheese Dressings

*I divide everything up into those little ziplock snack size bags

I found these itty bitty 3 oz containers at the dollar store, and I keep a couple in the fridge with the dressings in them.

Gotta go. I missed you guys soooooo much!!!!!!!

Good morning, all! Thanks for the wonderful welcome - I'm excited about my first week on SB. I know I'll learn much from you all. I'm at work so don't know how much I'll be able to check in, but will do my best. BTW, Seguin is just east of San Antonio on IH-10. Funny note - my husband's family has been in business since 1962 making CANDY!!! Some day I'll be working with him full time and can't wait for that, but definitely have to get the sugar thing under control first!

Hope you all have a wonderful day - it's so nice to meet you all.

Hi Ho! Back from the brink of eating chaos. I definitely diverged from my diet this Holiday Weekend but I'm back on track and I've got goals to work toward. I'm up 1/2 lb from last WIW but considering all I ate (ahem, and drank) I consider 1/2 lb to be a blessing.

I have to say that a few times this weekend I actually felt like I had a "carbohydrate hangover" after eating things like Chips and dip (tortilla, potato - you name it.) I also ate a half a box of Milk Duds while watching a movie with the family and I could tell that while they were good going down, they didn't make me feel very good overall. Interesting, eh? I tried to be good when I could - but we spent so much time at other people's homes and they didn't have things like whole wheat buns - and they kept tempting me with those chips! Oh, and the beer... I drank way too many!

Alas, I'm back to this WOE. I need to get back on track with my water consumption, too. Hope everyone had a good weekend and I hope the scales are kind to you this Monday!

Joanne - welcome! As a Candy addict, myself, I must say there were manyt times I dreamed about owning a candy store/factory/company - whatever. I love watching "Unwrapped" on the food channel! Keep the faith and the more you learn about this way of eating (woe) the more healthy you will feel!

Good Monday Morning.

Hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th and weekend.

After being away for 4 days it is great to be back. Our limo ride for the 21st birthday party was fun. We went to 4 different bars. My DD had to get a fake ID and only needed it at one place and got in. She was so proud. Now I'm afraid she has the bar bug. Makes a mother proud. :(

It was not a good weekend eating wise, but back on track today. I really hate saying that every monday. Really need to work on those weekends. It is just too much going on in the summer.

We did go to the HFS while I was off. I got some pita chips made with ww flour. I got garlic flavored and boy were they strong. They were great dipped in salsa. A good substitute for tortilla chips. We got crackers and tortillas and pot pies.

If anyone saw the post from Fillisie about the cobbler recipe. I strongly suggest you try it. I made it with peaches and it was wonderful. DH ate almost all of it. Wonderful!

Deb, good talking to you yesterday. Glad we finally got hooked up. Tell Lauren to "break a leg" I'm sure she will be the star.

Susan, Have fun on your trip. Hope you will be able to check in while you are gone. BTW, I made your cobbler recipe. I used peaches. Wonderful! DH ate almost all of it. I high recommend it.

Gator, thanks for the smoothie recipe. I always use oj, but will try the cranberry juice for something different. I don't use protein powders though. Hope your UTI is better. those things can really hurt.

Talitha, I was right there with you on the party thing. My DD lost her lunch seeral times Friday after her friends 21st birthday party. It was fun though. I have to admit I had my share too. I'm sure you will be at your goal before the wedding. Good idea on those snacks in the back seat. Glad you are back with us.

Door, Welcome, I guess you joined us while I was away last weekend. Good to have you with us. It would have to be tough working in a candy store and not eating it. Unless it's one of those things where you see so much of it, you don't want it. Candy is not my downfall, luckily. I have enough other ones. Welcome.

Lawyer, it is so hard going to other people's houses. Even though my friends try to have things for me to eat, they buy the ww buns that they sell in the store and I hate to tell them they are really not ww. Sometimes I just eat them and just count them as my starchy carb and go on. But those chips are really hard to resist. I did find some pita chips at the HFS this weekend that are a good substitute for tortilla chops. Theya re great in salsa.

Board seems a little slow today. Have a great day.

HI ALL!! Yes I know, I'm a BAD girl!!
My stinking computer is messed up and when I try and read the posts here, they just kind of get stuck and jerk across the page up and down a little at a time... I can't deal with it. But I decided to at least pop in at the beginning of the week and say hi !!:D
After getting back OP, I (of course) went right back OFF plan and gained all the way back up to TWO HUNDRED!!!!!! OMG... I thought I was gonna choke! So... back OP now for 5 days and down to 193. That means I'm still 20 pounds from my all time SB low of 174. I have GOT to get my butt under control!

Joanne - I feel your pain, my husband and I own a COOKIE business! He used to work for the local dairy, which kept us in ice cream and chocolate milk, but now it's been cookies for the last 6 years!!! They do have sugar free cookies, but they're not SB legal cause of all the enriched flour :(

Hope everyone is doing well... we're off to Nashville to the inlaws to swim and hang out... Maybe I'll get this computer fixed soon, I can't stand the page not scrolling smoothly!

Bye!!!

I'm still out here, more or less OP (with occaissional big lapses, like this weekend). I pop into the board and read alot, but I can't even remember the last time I posted. I still live at the gym when I'm not working :dizzy: So my weight is STUCK, but boy do I have muscles!

I've found I do really well when I travel- it's being at home that's sometimes a problem. I always travel with a big cooler, and pre-cook tons of chicken breasts, protein pancakes (oatmeal and eggwhites blendered up, then cooked like a pancake), bags of raw vegies, apples, etc.

Glad to see all the old faces and the new ones,

mel

Jack K--Thanks for the good wishes. I actually broke down and went to the doctor and they found a UTI for which I needed antibiotics. I HATE going to the doctor, but am glad I did this time, at the insistance of my DS. Three days of Cipro should get me back on track.

I'll look for the cobbler recipe. Wasn't it on last week's board?

I am not eating well at all. And the scales are reflecting it. Kinda irratates me that I keep doing this to myself. I got to 149 twice so far and back up to 154....ugh.....it's like I want to screw this up...and I DON"T trust me. Stress eating I know...but stopping it is another story. Any way.........mostly OP today...had a couple too many chips. Gotta get them things away from me.

I need to go feed the kids lunch.

Welcome Joanne!

Good to see you Beth and Meliris.

Hey All:wave:

Went to my yoga class this morning and got home, had some lunch and have THE HOUSE ALL TO MYSELF, well, at least for the time being. What better way to use it but doing a post:)

QUESTION...has anyone come across info on, when cooking bacon, not frying it as many do, but on a grill where the fat/grease drips away, just how many grams of fat and/or calories would you be saving by doing this? I eat the SF GWALTNEYS BACON and make it in my jet stream oven (which I'd die if I didn't have) and all the fat goes to the bottom (it's a lot!) and then whatever is still on the crispy fried bacon I sop up with paper towels. I know I have to be saving grams of something by doing this, but haven't been able to find the info on the web easily. Anyone have any ideas?

'NOTHER QUESTION for those of you who did Atkins. DM is thinking about doing Atkins, my Aunt is on it, last I heard (for the umpteenth time, I think) and so DM is thinking about it. So, I know the concept of course BUT not a lot as far as particular foods, induction, etc. so I found a Atkins board on one of the sites I just happened to come across and asked a few questions but really didn't get what I consider to be good solid answers, so I figured, with so many people who've done A on our board, maybe you guys can shed a little light on some of the questions not only my DM has, but I have in hopes of helping her if she so does decide to do it. You may ask, why doesn't she do SB,she's done it, time and time again. DM has trouble sticking with anything, so I figured, if she can get in any time on Atkins, it probably won't be long, just hoping that whatever time she does it, if she does, she'll lose some weight and hopefully, the day she goes off, won't gain it back, and then some.

Anyhow, like bacon, I eat the GWALTNEY'S and I think that would be fine for her, but how many slices would a person eat on Atkins, vs a regular serving size. The other board says you can't have ketchup, even if it has no carbs or sugars-does that seem right? Soy milk, if she can't have reg. skim, doesn't want to use cream, why could she not use soy that has only .5 grams of net carbs per cup and maybe only use a couple tablespoons? I got the last 2 of his books at the library so I could skim through them but like the SB BOOK they are a bit confusing AND contradictory. They say you only have to count carbs, but yet, a part of the book still says calories count, which I know on any WOE it does, but they don't give you much guidance other than saying 65% fat/30% protein/5% carbs -so, with that, does anyone want to throw in some 2 cents worth of info/advice that possibly I can use to relay to DM about this diet, besides DON'T DO IT??? THANKS!

FILLISE, hope you get lots done so you can concentrate on getting ready for your trip. Celery is good, even better with the salad dressing to dip. I've never had the Carbolite bars-if I'm going to eat chocolate it's going to be the real stuff. I'm wondering if I should buy some of the PURE PROTEIN shakes that are in a can for my upcoming trip, the coffee is delish, it's only 150 calories, a gram or two of fat and a few carbs and good protein. I usually pack a cooler with food so don't have problems with that, the problem I have is with boredom and wanting to eat whatever I've packed before we've left the driveway!:fr:

GATOR, hope you feel even better today, enough so you can get in your walk tomorrow. Do a mile for me, I haven't been able to walk in weeks, maybe a month, I don't even know for sure how long it's actually been now.

TALITHA, glad to see your post! Glad you survived HANNAH'S BS;), sounds like she had a really good time. Geez, if I drank even half that much I'm sure I'd probaby of died of alcohol poisoning!!! I never drink, so I'd surely of been face down on the floor after a couple. Is SELAH'S keppy (Yiddish word for head) problem in the area where you have her in a car seat or one of those carriers? Just wondering, and if so, possibly that can be causing the trouble. I know many babies who get bald spots from being in their carriers/car seats too often. Hope you get it cleared up fast! Dying to see your brownie recipe, sounds yummy! Great car snack ideas!!!! Good grab and go snacks too!

DOOR, OMG, the CANDY BUSINESS?!?!? What kind? That's my BIGGEST downfall, candy. I do think it is inbred, honestly. My Grandfather owned a penny candy store, my DM grew up loving candy, of course, and I do too. CHOCOLATE is my drug of choice. Tell us more!!!!! OMG, working full time there? Glad it's not me, I'd not only be as big as a house, I'd surely eat ALL the profits!!!!! Okay, now I do have to ask, any of the goodies SUGAR FREE???

LAW, you'd think as we are eating junk and feeling crappy from eating crap we'd learn not to do it again. We must be glutins for punishment! Gosh, I haven't had Milk Duds in years-those and Sugar Babies! Glad to have you back FULL THROTTLE!!!

JACKK, glad we finally got to chat, as usual, I don't have much of anything exciting to tell about, just a friendly hello and to shoot the breeze:) 4 bars? You are too much! So DD is now a BAR FLY? If you can find plain ww pita you can make the chips yourself. Also good to try making them with some cinammon and agave brushed on them - yummy sweet treat! The cobbler sounds delish, but you know me, I'd make it and eat it in one shot-there's no hope for me-better not to make it, at least not right now, not until something clicks in the brain, either that, or make it one day and make sure I get one portion and the rest the family eats right away. No putting it in the freezer or hiding it, it doesn't help when I'm around!

BETH, glad to see you back, ALMOST called you over the weekend to see what was happening with you. I'm glad you're back, and back on track. You worked so hard on getting down to your low, just like me, just like many of us. You'll do it again and hopefully for good, but if not, you just have to pick yourself up and dust yourself off if you have a bad day and get right back on track - now if I can just heed my own words, life would be grand:)

MEL, glad to see you checking in to say hello. Girl, you must look liked AWNALD SHWARZENNAGER!!!!!! I'm sure you have bigger muscles than him, by now! Still eating all those huge portions of eggs? Did your SIL have the baby?

COUNTRY, just know, you aren't the only one who feels the way you do. I was talking with JACKK, and about how she's only 10lbs from goal, but not going down and why it is, when we get so close to goal, something we've tried to reach and have worked on reaching for so long, we tend to start screwing up. I know what it's been for me and why I've gained some of the weight back in the past, at least one of the reasons I have. If I don't find a way to deal with it, or fix it, I do believe I will be playing yo-yo with my weight the rest of my life. We have to find out WHY we do this to ourselves!!!! Unfortunately, I haven't found a single person with the answer and I don't think anyone has the answer but us maybe.

Well, seems I'm caught up here:) I'll check in later on today.

Have a good one!

Debbie

Good afternoon, all! I am nominating myself for the self-control award today. The company I work for (The Scooter Store) celebrates EVERYTHING and this morning in the lobby they were practically force-feeding us Krispy Kremes!!! But I was good, and when someone tried to leave a whole box at my desk, I moved it away! The joke around here is about the "Scooter Store 20" - everyone gains at least 20 pounds in the first year of employment. Wish the celebrations would be a little more healthful...

Debbie, our family candy business is in Columbus, Texas and called Kay Klauber Candies (my mother-in-law). We make all kinds of brittles, creamy and chewy pecan pralines, coconut pralines, and the world's best hand-dipped (by DH) toffee that you have ever tasted. Last year for Valentine's Day, DH took a chewy pralines (my fav), dipped them in chocolate, and swirled my initial on the top - it was the best valentine I ever received. We do carry some sugar-free candy that is quite yummy, too!

Regarding Atkins - the Atkins website has detailed info regarding induction, acceptable foods, etc. and is very helpful. You really don't even need the book - just check out the website.

Well, back to work. Have a great afternoon, everyone!

Watching AUTO FOCUS, about BOB CRANE and just took a urination station break and came to check the e-mail and board.

DOOR, I'll take one of everything, excluding the coconut pralines, I don't care for coconut unless it's fresh, but everything else is just fine;) Toffee, OMG, love it! LOVE good brittle, hard to find anything like that down in Miami though, maybe I should be saying thankfully though! Gosh, I'm salivating! Girl, I wish you luck when you go to work there, I think I've gained a pound just thinking about it - talk about a dream job before I die-what a weigh to go!;) What do you do at the SCOOTER STORE? Sounds like either job would be fun! As for the Atkins sites, you can spend hours trying to find the answers to the questions you have. Mine are simple but it seems some people say nay when others say yes. It's more confusing than SB!

Okay, back to my movie...

BTW, anyone planning on watching BIG BROTHER tomorrow night? I know you are BOB!!!

Hi All: First a message from Melf - she has been super busy with her new job and liking it - and has taken on some extra time because the other nurse is going on vacation. She is doing well...and the storms did not get her.

I am in NYC and have shopped and walked - I am on a strict Sugar Buster diet - no cheats, no fooling around = just strictly business under my mother's watchful eye! I walked for 3 hours in the City yesterday shopping, and my arms are even terribly sore from all the bags!!! Today we went to a mall in NJ and I shopped again - lots and lots of sales and I love the no sales tax in NJ!

Take care all, Sabrina

Got to run, it's ball park night. Have my peanuts in my purse and taking big glass of water with me.

Beth, so glad to hear from you. Look at the bright side, you have been OP for 5 days now and down 4 pounds. You are going in the right direction. Youknow this works. Stay with us.

Mel, good to hear from you. I have been thinking about you. I have missed my wt training buddy. Glad you are doing good. My wt training has slipped a little this summer. Not enough time to walk and workout and run and play every night. A good weekend blowout is maybe what your body needs to shake it up. I need to get back into it and maybe this pop-in by you will motivate me again. Hope you can join us more regularly.

Gator, the recipe would have been posted Tuesday or Wed. Glad you got some antibotics. Those things don't clear up with just cranberry juice.

Country, what can we do to break this vicious cycle. Every Monday I'm up and get it off by Friday and then start again on Monday. I'm really tired of it. I've made it through summer before. I need a swift kick. When I started SB I was so determined to suceed as I was embarrassed to say I had started yet another diet. My friends and family hear that every month. So I was determined to prove I could do it. Now I feel that way about the weekends. I need to quit this up and down. Glad you are back OP. Throw away those chips. You don't need them around.

Deb, I always fix my bacon in the microwave on a bacon rack. I don't know how muchit saves you, but it has to help. Can't help you with Atkins. Oh how I love Sugar Babies too!

Door, cONGRATULATIONS on your self-control. Keep up the good work. Maybe you should suggest some more healthful awards.

Tranquil, glad you are having fun. Sounds like you are shopping to you drop. Congrats on staying OP too!. Hurry back we miss you.

Have a great OP night everyone.

Not much new with me - still struggling with my eating. I'm still pregnant (yay!) and we've heard the little heartbeat with our rented doppler, so I'm feeling a bit better about all of this.

For Deb about Atkins:

WHAT ABOUT QUANTITIES? If weight loss stops short of your ideal weight, even though you are producing ketones, you must conclude that the quantities within the diet are too great. The diet usually works best with just enough calories to stave off hunger. Too many people misinterpret the instructions regarding the diet as "Eat unrestrictedly." When they do this they will still lose weight in the beginning, which will reinforce their assurance that no heed whatever need be paid to quantities. In most cases, this practice will lead to a stalemate partway to the desired goal.

YOU MAY HAVE TO COUNT CALORIES IN ADDITION TO CARBOHYDRATES - I have never said that calories don't count because I know, of course, that they do. I say that carbohydrates count more. If your case is especially difficult, you may have to count both. There is no question that a 1,500-calorie, 10-gram diet will take more weight off, and more quickly, than a 2,000-calorie 10-gram diet.

Does this help answer the quantity question? If not, let me know.

:spin: Hi Everyone.

I'm posting a motivational saying that I really need this week. I've had a pretty blah feeling about work lately (use to love it...I may be going through a career crisis) so I know I need a vacation and to smell the roses.

Smell the Roses
"Happiness is as a butterfly which,
when pursued, is always beyond your
grasp, but which if you will sit down
quietly, may alight upon you -"
- Nathaniel Hawthorne -

This is a time allocation issue. It’s not hard to do, in fact, it’s quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, we have the tendency to consider “smelling the roses” a luxury item and we just don’t make time for it. The fact of the matter is, it will help improve our attitude, clarify our priorities and put us in touch with our inner self. (you know those warm and fuzzy things we call feelings)
Our lives get so busy sometimes, we end up in a response mode, responding to all the demands placed on us by the people around us. Busy fulfilling deadlines and expectations from our co-workers, friends and family. The problem with this is our own needs, thoughts and priorities get lost in the confusion. This isn’t just about us either, it affects the quality of our work, efficiency and overall productivity. It even has bearing on the quality of our relationship with others. We must listen to that inner voice for creativity, true priorities and to lay down the load for a moment and find peace. Everything we do will benefit as a result.
One of the most effective ways to “smell the roses” is to stop whatever we are doing, step away, just for a moment, and observe the beauty and serenity of nature. It could be as simple as a breath of fresh air, feeling the warm sun on our face, listening to the wind whisper through the trees or rustle the leaves. Smell the sweet fragrance of a flower and find the peace in your soul! From Motivational Sayings 10 things to improve your life.

As for the challenge...I'm drinking my water and excercise 3 times a week. My favorite to go snack is peanut butter on whole wheat (pepperidge farm 9 grain) bread. I also eat cheese on a string.

FYI...on SB I count calories. I eat between 1300-1600 calories a day. I don't count carbs. I just try and pick foods with a low glycemic index.

I just came across this on the main board...clicked the link and found this...anyone heard of this?

The Coconut Diet

According to the Mayo Clinic, 95 percent of those people who go on weight loss diets regain all their weight back within five years. Many regain more weight than they had before. The diets not only don’t work but can make matters worse. In order for a diet to work it needs to be permanent. This cannot be done with a weight-reducing diet. These types of diets are looked on as temporary restrictions in food, and as soon as the weight is lost we go back to eating the way we did before, the way that made us fat in the first place. You never stay slim by eating the way you used to. In order to lose weight permanently you must make a permanent change. This, however, is undesirable for most people. Who in their right mind would want to remain on a weight-loss diet forever? These diets are just too restrictive and in many cases unhealthy.

But what if I told you there was a diet that you would like, that you could stay on permanently and still enjoy most of your favorite foods without worrying about counting calories or weighing food? For lack of any better name I call it “The Coconut Diet.” I call it this because it is based around coconut and the fact that coconut oil is a reduced-calorie fat which promotes weight loss.

The coconut diet is simple. The most important and most unique feature of this diet is that coconut oil and other coconut products are used as much as possible. Most people are not accustomed to using coconut, so at first they may think this might be difficult, but it’s not. You can add coconut products to your ordinary way of eating without noticing much change.

The most important change is replacing all the refined vegetable oils you currently use in your food preparation with coconut oil. Eliminate all margarine, shortening, and other hydrogenated oils from your diet. Olive oil and butter are okay, but use coconut oil whenever possible.

The second thing you should do is use other coconut products as much as possible. Find ways to use fresh and dried coconut. You can find recipes in cookbooks. Coconut milk is a wonderful item that can be used in a wide variety of dishes. It can replace cow’s milk and cream in most any recipe and tastes great. Some of the dishes I make using coconut milk include butterscotch pudding, coconut milk pancakes, clam chowder, chicken almondine, and creamy coconut gravy, to mention just a few. Coconut milk that you buy in the can is not sweetened so it can be used for a wide variety of main dishes or desserts. With delicious meals like these, dieting can be a pleasure, and because there are no calorie restrictions to worry about, it can easily be maintained for life without feeling hungry or deprived.

When combined with a high-fiber diet, using coconut oil and coconut products can have a remarkable effect on your weight and your health. For more detailed information about using coconut products to lose unwanted weight I recommend the book Eat Fat, Look Thin: A Safe and Natural Way to Lose Weight Permanently. This book outlines a dietary program based on coconut and includes numerous delicious recipes.

Deb - Atkins sucks. But since you insist on finding info about it...

Atkins' theory is that ALL carbs are bad regardless of their glycemic index. Induction consists of two full weeks whereby you limit your total carbohydrate intake to 20 grams per day. You have to count the .7 carbs in a cup of coffee... you get the idea. ALL carbs should come from veggies (of course, no potatoes, carrots, etc.) NO carbs should come from any sugar source. Ketchup is bad because tomatoes are bad (high in "natural" sugars.) You're very limited. No fruits for the first two weeks (and most people can't eat hardly any even after that.) The basic plan is that you eat low-or no carb proteins, and low-carb veggies. Anything you eat, you can subtract the fiber content from the overall carbohydrate count to get a "net" carb value.

After the two week induction, you increase the number of carbs by 5 for an entire week and you keep doing that until your weight loss stops.

You should only eat until you feel full - no more!

There are a lot of "products" out there that purport to have little "net" carbs (the carbolite bars, Atkins bars, etc.) but MOST people have found that those things stall their weight loss. Also, they theorize that even diet drinks and "sugar-free" products "trick" your body into jacking up the insulin - but I think that is more a factor that too many people eat too much fatty food on the Atkins.

Why I don't like Atkins: 1. ANyone who makes this diet a way of life is going to HAVE to end up with colon cancer (the only fiber you get is basically from lettuce.) 2. It's not uncommon for people to eat 200 grams of fat and still be hungry. I was always hungry on this diet even if I ate a 1/2 lb cheeseburger with bacon. 3. I simply cannot believe that this is a healthy way of eating.

And now I will shut up!

Hello all-- Just a quick post before I take off to the hospital again. Our weeks vacation turned into a 1522 mile over nighter. When we got to SIL's there was a phone call from my Mother, that my Grandmother had taken a fall and broke her femor bone. Apparently she was out weeding and tripped on the sidewalk edge and fell. She laid OUTSIDE in a T-shirt and light pants from 3 pm until 7 am the next morning when her son found her. She had hypothermia and severe dehydration also. They were planning surgery for the next morning, so we headed home. She is doing fairly well, but has alot of PT to go through. I think she will be staying at a nursing home, or Swing Bed, for atleast two weeks for her PT. Then she will have to decide who she wants to stay with because she will not be allowed to stay by herself anymore. She is 86, and is a bundle of energy still. I hope that this will not knock the wind out of her sail.

The one good thing that did happen on our overnighter, is that Dh and I stopped at the Wheat Montana Deli and Bakery in Three Forks Montana. I bought a 10 pound bag of WW flour, and a package of hamburger buns. I have a loaf of WW bread going in the bread machine right now.

I will catch up with the posts this evening.
I will just add the foods that we took with us to travel;

Red Pepper strips
Celery sticks
RF cheese slices
Venison Summer Sausage (homemade)
Turkey Pepperoni
Canadian Bacon
SF WW Cracker's (I found some SB legal ones at Fred Meyers)

We didn't even stop for lunches, just snacked on these, and I also took some Granny Smith Apples.

amhlawyer--now tell us how your REALLY feel about Atkins!!!! :s:

BOB--Miss Belle is currently climbing up the laundry drying rack (when I spread my jeans out to dry she can walk on the top, but now I have some undies hanging there and she keeps falling between the dowels--she's a riot!) and doesn't seem to be too concerned about packing--guess I'm going to have to do it for her! There' sher food and water, then her toy bag, then her scratching post. The trunk of the car is full of snack foods for the youth conference (now how did I get stuck with all that???) andbetween that and Belle's stuff, I'm not going to have room for any of MY stuff!:dizzy:

Frog--is it really you???????:D Welcome home!!!!!! I did just about faint! You know we'll take care of you and we don't ccare if you've been bad--hop right on the wagon with the rest of us!

beach--when are you heading for the beach??? You should see some of the emails I'm getting today--hooboy!

JenninMN--I bet it is thrilling to hear that little heartbeat!

Jack-K--Glad you liked the cobbler. I also put it on the recipe board so that it would be easy to find!

Talitha--My goodness, it sounds like y'all had quite a time. I'd tsk, tsk, but I was young once----it was a really, really long time ago.:^:

Gator--the cobbler recipe is on the June recipe board--that should be easier than trying to wade through all the posts last week.

Mel--Goodness--this is old home week! Welcome back Mel!!!!!

doornum3---ohhh candy. I love watching unwrapped too. I love how almost all candy recipes begin with "combine sugar and corn syrup" I think my blood sugar goes up just from watching!

I've missed someone I know it! I've got to go get some dinner so I can finish working on a report due tomorrow and pack!

Hi, everyone -- just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm Deena, 30, SAHM and live in Florida, just outside of Tampa. I'm really excited about starting the SB woe, as I am a former (recovering! *lol*) Atkid. I do think there are some benefits to Atkins. For example, I had lots of energy, lost a *little* bit of weight (although, never got the results I was promised! :)) But that strict of an eating plan was just not something I could sustain for the long term. I have since gained all the weight back, plus 4 pounds. :( I feel Atkins was just a TAD unforgiving. *lol* But, anyway, now I'm back on track and feel that I can sustain the SB lifestyle pretty painlessly.

Interestingly, I knew a lady from another board (a low carb board) who could never lose more than 2-3 pounds on Atkins. She started Sugar Busters, and took off 45 pounds in three months. I find that encouraging! :)

Fillise--I found the recipe. Thanks. I made it tonight and my DH loves it. I used to make that cobbler with white flour, which, ahem, was also terrific. :)

I'm feeling much better now. I had a slight fever and some pain after I got to the doc's office, and was not feeling good at all. It's nice to be getting back on track.

BOB--I haven't heard from Monet yet. I'll give her the message.

Debbie--I didn't know you weren't walking. What's up? Did you hurt your foot or leg?

Welcome, Ghost! This is a wonderful, friendly board - you'll enjoy it, for sure.

Can you stand one more Atkins opinion? I was on it and lost 50 pounds about 4 years ago, have since gained about 20 back. I've tried getting back on induction several times and have failed miserably - heard the same from others trying to go back on again. For some reason, it suddenly seemed terribly restrictive to me. So then tried Weight Watchers for about the nth time and remembered how skillfully I turned into an obsessive eater!! It wasn't pretty. Sugar Busters seems like a good plan to me, esp. with family history of diabetes.

Do any of you keep food journals of any sort with SB? I like the idea of keeping a log with my Palm Pilot, and am checking into some programs that track sugar intake as well as protein, fat, carbs, etc.

Well, hope you all had a good day today. Thanks for your motivation!

Hi, Joanne -- your pic is so cute -- I just love Wallace and Grommet. :)

I know what you mean about Atkins. I always felt deprived -- my meals just didn't feel quite right without some sort of carb (and I even like some healthy ones, like brown rice, blackeye peas, all kinds of beans). I hated all that meat and fat, too. *blech* Anyway, this seems like a much kinder, gentler approach. :)

I've also decided that one thing that will help me is only weighing in once a month, if that. Before I would weigh weekly, or sometimes daily, and if the scale didn't show what I wanted to see, use that as a mental excuse to get totally off plan. Well, none of that this time! *lol* Anyone else do this?

FROG Welcome back...I just rejoined the board too. I had gained back a lot of my weight and knew this was the place to come.

Fillise -- I leave Saturday Afternoon. I bet you got some good emails and some angry ones. I hope that the referendum does go through but having lived in Alabama for 41 years I don't have a lot of hope. But I can tell you, I like the Governor and Patsy is wonderful. I was able to meet her several times and she is so real. I've made that cobbler for years with white flour too and real sugar too. I'm not sure I could stop with one helping!

lawyer--I feel the same way about Atkins! I was on it for awhile and had horrible bad breath, and did not feel well at all. If you have any type of blood sugar problem it is not good for you. I have friends that have lost on it but they have gained it all back plus some. At least on SB, I may gain some back but not all of it and it helps me feel healthy.

BOB--This past summer I faced the decision that your are facing with Skeeter. My dog of 19 years became immobile. I would carry him from his bed in the back to his bed in the den and carry him outside and hold him up to help him go. But I wasn't ready and neither was he. When it was time, he ended up telling me and I knew it was the right thing. You will too. I now have the cutest puppy and his name is Cocoa and he is the best but I do miss my Bingo.

Jennin--Enjoy every moment...being pregnant...and everything else when they are little. I know it is a cliche but before you know it they are driving and leaving home.

Gator--Glad you are better. The pain from UTI is not fun!

Ghost--Welcome:)

Door--I journal. Try www.fitday.com It keeps track of calories, excercise and has a pie chart to show you the breakdown of carbs, fats, and proteins. I read an article that says the people who are most successful with weight loss and keeping it off do 2 things. They journal and excercise.

Teensy--I'm so sorry about your grandmother. I bet since she is fiesty that she will recover quickly. I'm thinking about you.

Country--Your weight will be down in no time...don't worry.

I hope I haven't missed anyone.

Question???I've been taking the new Citrucel pills for fiber they are wonderful. Has anyone tried them? My DR says everyone should take something like that to help prevent colon cancer.

Have a good day tomorrow and stay OP  (I'm saying that for myself!)

:o DEB--I'm blushing because I know you wanted the answers about Atkins and not the response I gave. For some people it works and most people who try it do like we did with SB and figure it out as they went. I think just like SB it is almost a trial and error to see what works. How much carbs you can have and still lose weight. I also think that you have to watch the calories. I'm a true believer that calories count but other things work such as high fiber and low glycemic foods and for some people high protein is the answer.:)

Good evening all--

I haven't had the time to go back and read all of last weeks board, did skim it quickly. Hope to have time to catch up.

We got my Grandma moved today. She went to the Deer Park Hospital, in what they call the Swing Bed. She will start her PT at 7:30 in the morning. She is in the same room that my Grandpa was in after he had his stroke. He was there for 4 years, but has been gone now for 2. She knows all the help, and nurses there so I think she will do wonderful.

Well, the WW bread turned out AWESOME!! I just need a way to make it without the molasses, and honey. For a two pound loaf it calls for 2 Tbl honey, and 2 Tbl molasses.
Question:
Do you think I could use splenda since it is made from real sugar?? I know artificial sweeteners won't work, or what about liquid stevia??

Fillise-- That recipe for the cobbler looks wonderful. I have some rhurbarb ready to pick. Will try it!!

Deena-- Welcome to Sugar Buster's. You are right, this is a very do able woe. I am a convert from Protein Power! After a year and a half, I stopped losing. I waited patiently for 6 months. Nothing I tried worked. Then after talking to Monet, I switched, and after a few weeks started losing again. Stick around, these gals are great!!

Gator--So glad you are feeling better.

Door-- I use fitday everyday to track my food. I usually don't do it on the week-ends, not because I eat bad, but because I am usually too busy to take the time. We have a pot luck every Saturday with the family, and I don't usually measure then. But M-F I am a fanatic!!

Beach-- Thank you for the kind words regarding my Grandma.

Deb-- I think that each person is different, and you just have to tweak the program to what works for you. When I was doing PP I know some people could eat quite a bit of cheese, and others couldn't hardly eat any. I never did the Atkins, but I think the first two weeks are the strictest. I think others on the lc board said not to really worry about the fat IF you are eating atleast 3 cup of good carb veggies. Once you start adding carbs, then I think you have to start watching the fat a bit closer. I stuck mostly with the leaner cuts of meats, and tried to stay away from the artificial foods. I also use the out door grill all the time. I think the Atkin site has a lot of sample INDUCTION menu's. I will see what I can find.

It's 7 am and I'm up early this am--got a LOT to do today to get ready to leave tomorrow. I'm still trying to get all the laundry done--I can't believe how many clothes I have to take to be away three weeks--especially with event s as diverse as summer camp and a wedding. I hope to be gone by this time tomorrow so we can travel as much as possible in the cool of the day.

Teensy--The Wheat Montana makes a great bread, doesn't it? I used the last of mine so I need another trip to Atlanta when I get back. I use agave in my recipe where it calls for honey--works just fine. I'm glad your grandmother is doing better--I'll keep her in my thoughts. Try the cobbler!

Beach--have a great time, I hope you get some good (dry) weather! I'm a big fan of the Governor and Miss Patsy too. I got to know them the first time he ran for Congress and they are wonderful people. My pastor has gotten all fired up about this referendum and had me come up with a Get out the vote strategy--he's taking it on as a mission project. I'm like you though in thinking that it will be very, very tough.

GhostDeen--Welcome! We have lots of Atkins converts here. You will also fine that we have folks that need to weight every day and those that do best if they don't. The same with counting calories, etc. One of the great things about this board is that we will do our best to help you find what works for you!

Doornum3--What kind of program do you use to keep track of food on your palm? I have one and would be interested! How's it going so far?

Gator--Yup the cobbler recipe is a keeper . And yes, I used to make it the same way, but this recipe translates well to WW flour and Agave. Not all of them do.

Time to get to work. I get to work at home this morning and then I have meetings all aftrnoon and evening. Can someone come over and pack for me? :^:

Have a great OP day everyone!

Susan

ps--deb--I stocked up on red and green grapes for the trip tomorrow!

Good Morning Everyone!

Hope everyone is starting out this wonderful day with determination and desire to be thin. We can do it.

Sounds like Atkins is not getting rave revues on this board. Which I guess is normal since this is SB board. My 2 cents, I neer tried Atkins, but it doesn't seem like something you can do for life and in order to lose and keep it off you have to make life style changes and I believe SB does that, pluse you can stay on it forever.

Had shish-kabobs for dinner last nite. They were delish. Bought tehm ready made at Kroger. I even ate all the veggies on there. It was a nice change. Didn't even need my peanuts I took to the ballgame.

Had a Dr's appt at 7:15 this morning. I was in and out quickly, not even late for work. BP was down, which was good. No change in the RA, so we will plug along as we are.

Jenn, how exciting listening to your baby's heartbeat. I'm glad things are going ok.

Beachfan, thanks for the motivational message. It is so true. we try to pack so much into our lives, we would be so much better off to reflect every once and a while. It might even help with our eating and overall health.

Bob, that is not good, no feeling in your fingers. I hope it dosen't continue to spread. Hopefully your Dr will call with some results soon. How did the visit go with the SILand brother? Was everything cleaned to their satisfaction? The only coconut product I can think of using would be Malibu Rum!

Frog, Oh my gosh. So glad to hear from you. Still doing the home interiors? Can't wait to get your scoop. Hope you plan to stay around this time.

Tennsy, How awful about your GM. Hope she is doing better. Sorry your vacation was cut so short.

Susan, is this another youth group trip? You are always on the go. Have fun. Hope you will be able to check in. 3 weeks is a long time to be away from us. We will miss you. Oh, I used ww pastry flour in the cobbler in lieu of the ww flour. Turned out fine.

Ghost, Welcome to our SB board. SB is so easy to do and so "life like". Not too much yu can't have and if you can't have it, there is probably a SB way to have it. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Gator, glad you liked the cobbler, Which fruit did you use?

Door, SEveral here journal, especially Deb and Quilter. I try to do it and it always goes by the wayside. Others use Fitday too.

Need to get busy, have a meeting in an hour.

Have a great OP Day!

The Loving Husband

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cell phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands free speaker-function and begins to talk.

Everyone else in the room stops to listen.

MAN: "Hello"

WOMAN: "Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"

MAN: "Yes"

WOMAN: "I am at the mall now and found this beautiful leather

coat. It's only $1,000. Is it OK if I buy it?"

MAN: "Sure, ...go ahead if you like it that much."

WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2003 models. I saw one I really liked."

MAN: "How much?"

WOMAN: "$60,000"

MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."

WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing....the house we wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $950,000."

MAN: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer, but just offer $900,000."

WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you!"

MAN: "Bye, I love you, too."

The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are looking
at him in astonishment. Then he asks: "Anyone know who this phone belongs to?"

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone:wave:

I've recuperated from my fainting spell from seeing FROG post! Unbelievable that I didn't have an all out heart attack this past week, first BEACHFAN and now FROG! Who else will venture back???? (hint, hint for all of you who are lurking!!!)

Was going to try and get in a walk this morning but the timing is all wrong. It's too darn hot by the time I get back from taking LAUREN, around 9:30am and to go now, I wouldn't get back in time to take her after I took the time to make her lunch, much less make sure she gets up. She's not one of those who's easy to get out of bed in the morning.

Made our reservations for this Saturday night at the RIU - ahhh, such wonderful memories I have of that place and so many of you!!!! I'm hoping to see SOLSHINE this Saturday nights, with VINCE of course, but I haven't heard a word from her recently so I'm not sure if our dinner plans are still on-will have to e-mail her.

Thanks for all your input on Atkins. It will remain to be seen if DM actually does decide to do this diet. I know that it's not the best choice and I've made my ideas about it known. BUT, in recent light that many of the things I've heard lately say, on a short term basis it seems to be okay and work, I'm trying to help come up with answers, ideas and the like. What I think worries me the most is the going off of it and gaining all the weight back PLUS! If she gets through the induction of just 2 weeks and start adding back, maybe it wouldn't be so bad, but then, you don't know my DM and her dieting habits! She lost 7lbs in the hospital and has gained 1 back and is searching once again for a diet to follow. Unfortunately, she seems to be a lot like me, or maybe me like her, once on a diet it's hard to go on the same one again and be 100% OP. Anyhow, I'll continue to search for answers when I get the time, personally I just don't see what the big deal about using lf mayo or sour cream or cheese, vs high fat when they both seem to have the same amount of carbs (not fat). Perplexing!!!

Did anyone else get hooked in to watching FOR LOVE OR MONEY? I figured he'd take ERIN and I knew she'd take the million dollars, she said she would and I don't blame her, she didn't love him, there was no love at first sight or anything like that. BUT, what really stinks and shows not only poor judgement but greediness is that they brought ERIN back 3 weeks later and gave her the opportunity to meet 15 men, who know they will get 1 million dollars if she picks them, but, if they pick her over the million, she will get $2 million instead of the $1 million she already got, BUT, if the man picks the money instead, she walks away with NOTHING, absolutely ZERO, not even the million she got from this past show. When I saw that, I hoped she'd lose it all - that's just plain greedy!

TRANQUIL, how'd you hear from MELF, e-mail or telly? Glad to hear you are having a wonderful time all the while staying SB LEGAL! With all the walking and shopping you're doing you're bound to come back with a great WIW! I'm sure you and ZACH are hitting all the great places and shops. Be glad you drove there, if not, I'm sure with all the goodies they'd not have room for it all on the plane! Thanks for checking in - may try to give you a call on your cell phone this weekend! HAVE FUN!!!

JACKK, I looked on the web and tried to put some key search words in to see if there was any info on draining the bacon and how many grams of fat/calories one would save but just couldn't find it. I'm sure I will find something, just need the time to delve further. I wonder if I just wrote the company, if they would know? Does your bacon come out crisp in the nuker? Mine comes out so crisp, the way I like it! Your Dr. is in the office at 7:15am? WOW! Hope all is well.

BOB, did you download that e-mail cleaning tool? It's called EMAIL STRIPPER! I just copied your Hallmark post, put it in the window, hit a button and viola it was all cleaned up from those >>> thingies - it's free BTW! Problem is, now that I closed the screen, I don't know where on my computer the application is to find it, okay I found it now, put it on my desktop. Have fun watching BB tonight. I still think AMAZING RACE is the best reality TV show out there though. Did you watch FOR LOVE OR MONEY? Sorry to hear SKEETER and you are not doing too well, you know what they say, misery loves company! Hope you both feel better soon. BTW, how's KATE? Coconut Diet? What will they think of next? Yesterday I saw a book in the library, I think it was called THE NASHVILLE DIET!

JENN, glad to hear things seem to be going as planned with the pregnancy. I'm sure it's hard to keep on track with eating but just think how much better you feel when you are following OP, how better eating like this is for the baby and how, after you have the baby you'll probably weigh less than before you got pregant because during the pregnancy you could be losing weight! Thanks for the input on the calories, though I was more looking for quantities, such as food.

BEACH, I like that MM you posted! Is there any way you can do something else for a while within your job to give you (probably) a much needed break? Gawd forbid there should be another disaster in your area, not only bad for everyone but probably worse for you if you are feeling as such. I remember after the last big disaster there is where we began to lose you, and ultimitely did, until now that is. Hey, thanks for mentioning the PB, I had forgotton what a great food that is to keep in your car! I found PB flour, just add water and a tad of salt and viola, you've got not only PB, but low fat PB!!!!! Tell more about these fiber pills! I too definitely believe calories count, no matter what diet you are following!

FROG, okay, I admit, you had me floored there yesterday when I saw your post! I'm sooo happy to see you are back and can't wait to hear the going's on of late. We really have missed you a lot and as you can see, we're all so happy and delighted to have you back. I can't believe you moved, after all the work you were doing on the house! What happened? How's DH? What's new????? YIPPEEEE, you're back:!!!!

LAW, thanks for your input. I see where DM can't have her coffee, and she doesn't do decaf, so that may make her decide a resounding NO to this idea! You said Also, they theorize that even diet drinks and "sugar-free" products "trick" your body into jacking up the insulin this is actually true, which is why I say on SB that people shouldn't try to even think about SF chocolate and the like when they start SB, that the idea is to get the sugar out because your body/brain doesn't know it's "fake sugar". Have fun watching BB tonight!!!:D

TEENSY, so sorry to hear about your GM! What a terrible thing to happen, and with you being not only on vacation, but so far away from home and having to turn around right away. OMG, to be lying there with no help for all that time and no one to come help! Does she live where there's no one around to hear her calling out? I hope she has a speedy recovery and like you said, this doesn't bring her spunky self down. MONET will be happy to hear you loaded up with the WM flour, she loves that stuff! She'd be the one to ask about what to use in place of honey and molasses. Though, if you have the agave, you can use that for sure!!! Hey, when you make your sausage, do you use a casing? Always wanted to try and make this Lebanese sausage, but we can't find casing around in Miami, guess no one makes homemade sausages here in these city parts!;)

FILLISE, packed up and raring to go tomorrow???? Sounds like you'll be well stocked for the road come tomorrow! DRIVE SAFELY!!!

GHOST, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign2.jpg Glad you're joining our little part of the SB universe!!:D You're not too far from BOB, who lives in Sarasota! Thanks for sharing a little bit more info about yourself, it's always nice to learn a bit more about our board members. We have a BIO BOARD and when you get a chance, you may want to post on there as well. Exactly what happened to you on Atkins is what I'm afraid will ultimately end up happening to DM who is thinking about doing it, but actually, my Aunt who is doing it. I'll be seeing her next week sometime when she rolls in to town and will see if she's even still doing it and if there are any results (she lives in NC). Anyhow, don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have, we're all more than happy to help. Have you ever been to NUTRITIONSMART in Tampa? I wonder if they have the same as they do down here. Your decision to only weigh from time-to-time is smart, I use to be go crazy with weighing on the scale-on the RECOMMENDED READING BOARD there's WHY THE SCALE LIES-it's good to read:)

GATOR, just haven't been walking due to the rains we've had, DM who was in the hospital, LAUREN having to be at camp at 9am and me not being able to get my butt out of bed early enough to go beforehand. Nope, didn't hurt my foot or leg, that would be the best excuse if I did!

DOOR, throw those 2 cents in about Atkins. I'm now thinking it may not be a bad idea to print everyone's opinions out for my DM! Then again, I don't want to totally discourage her, it just MAY help, but that's a tiny may. I'm one that's tried WW on and off since I was 12 (I'm 40 something) and it never worked for me. SB and Richard Simmons Deal-A-Meal are the only 2 plans that ever worked for me, but with SB I was able to stay down, I gained after losing with RS. I do keep a food journal, on a steno pad. I actually recently bought a PALM PILOT and have downloaded a ton of freeware on it and I too have looked at some of the diet programs but I'll tell you, I think it's great if you are out and about and want to keep track of foods on it, but at home, I think it's easiest to write it down. I know the nutritional information of many of the foods I eat by heart and don't have to look them up. I use either the NAT site or CALORIEKING.COM to look up what I need to look up. I did download a list of foods from the USDA which is free. If you are interested in knowing what I've downloaded on my palm, feel free to contact me via e-mail Debelli@AOL.com

Okay, I think I'm all caught up, LAUREN is at camp, MICHAEL went with ALEX to his house again today and me, I'm going to go post a few TUESDAY TIPS and go find me something to eat. I have to make sure to get to Publix today, they have $2 off all GM cereals and I'm plum out of Fiber One and that's a great deal since there's never any good coupons out there for it!

Will check in later!

TRIMMING DOWN ON MEAT

from http://www.dietsurf.com/diet-tips/trimming_down_on_fat.htm

Backyard barbecues are a summer tradition, but when you're trying to cut back on calories and fat, you've got some decisions to make about what to cook on the grill. If you stick with traditional favorites like burgers or beef steak, start by choosing cuts that have a very low fat content most of the time, and reserve higher fat cuts of meat (like most steak) for special occasions (once or twice a month)._Here's some information that can help you make more informed decisions when it comes to buying "red" meat.____

A weighty issue

It's important to note that the fat content listed on packages of meat sold in U.S. supermarkets display the percentage of fat_ by weight, not by calories. What does this mean to you? If you are trying to follow a diet that is 25-30% fat,_ no more than 25-30% of your total calories should come from fat._ However,_ meats that are 25-30% fat are not a good choice for your diet! Why? A pound (16 ounces or 454 grams) of meat that is 25-30% fat by weight_ contains 4-5 ounces of pure fat. That translates to 114-136 grams of fat in 16 ounces of meat, or about 28-30 grams of fat in a single 4 ounce serving of meat. For someone eating 2000 Calories a day , half of their fat calories for the whole day are contained in a single 4 ounce serving of meat! And, about half of the fat in red meat is saturated fat, so not only is it a poor choice for fat and calories, there is a great deal of saturated fat in fatty meats, making it a poor choice for heart health as well.

Fat adds flavor and tenderness to a cut of meat, and very low fat meats can get too dry and tough when you grill them. With leaner cuts of meat, use other ways to add flavor and improve texture:

Cut lean steak into chunks, marinade and grill them on skewers, alternating with vegetables, chicken, and shellfish.

Grill flank steak in one large piece, cut against the grain (along the bias) into thin slices and don't overcook. Flank steak is extremely lean cut of beef and has a very good flavor, but gets tough if overdone.

When grilling burgers, if you start with very lean ground beef, (7-10%), use a barbecue sauce or marinade or add some spices and "fillers" to the meat to add some texture and flavor. Or, top your hamburgers with green chiles, salsa, grilled vegetables like onions and green pepper, or very low fat cheese in addition to tomatoes, lettuce and other condiments.

If you are a "meat" eater, when it comes to "red" meat, read the labels for fat content, and choose the cuts with the lowest fat content for good health most of the time. The leanest types of "red" meat are flank steak (sometimes called skirt steak or London Broil w/o bacon), super lean ground beef (7-10% fat), pork tenderloin, buffalo (read label for fat content), and most wild game such as elk or venison. You do not have to avoid all red meat! In fact,_ 4 ounces of very lean red meat (such as flank steak), has a much lower fat and calorie content than 4 ounces of roasted chicken with skin._

Enjoy your summer barbecues, but do take a few minutes to read labels!

There's No Such Thing as Cheating
By Chad Tackett, President of Global Health and Fitness

There's no right or wrong way to eat. Healthy eating is all about motivation, balance, and flexibility. There will be times when you eat a high-fat meal or eat beyond fullness, or when your schedule gets so busy that you miss a work- out. This happens. It's normal. But it's very important that you don't get down on yourself and abandon your new healthy lifestyle when this happens.

If you're like most people, your reaction to these diet/ fitness obstacles is guilt. You feel as if all your hard work has been for nothing. "I blew it; I was doing so well. Oh well, I might as well enjoy this weekend and start over on Monday." Or even worse: "I just don't have the motivation or will power to start over and be successful. I quit." Feeling defeated, many people discontinue the healthy living and return to their old routine until some mythical time in the future: "Maybe this spring will be a better time to start over again." This kind of scenario is a perfect example of the diet mentality at work.

An all-or-nothing attitude is why so many people have so little success; we choose structured programs because they relieve us from making choices for ourselves. A properly designed program makes sense, but expecting to stick to a structured eating and exercise plan for an extended period of time without ever deviating makes no sense at all. In fact, this is so unrealistic as to be a set-up for failure. If you begin to change your habits with the assumption that any deviation from your plan will ruin it, you might as well not even begin. Life is full of unplanned obstacles, distractions, and temptations. Your best approach is to prepare for them, keeping an open mind and maintaining a positive attitude.

It's very important that you begin your healthier lifestyle with an understanding that there will be days when you will stray from healthy eating and exercising. Before you begin, tell yourself that no matter what happens, rather than abandoning your new lifestyle, you'll resume your healthy habits as soon as you can; it is equally important that you feel confident, not guilty, about doing so. What- ever the temptation or obstacle is, keep in mind that it's not wrong or bad to eat fattening foods once in a while or to miss a workout. Just remember to resume your healthy lifestyle. If you keep moving forward and you don't let guilt and discouragement stop your program all together, you'll eventually have improved eating and exercise habits.

With this approach, there is no such thing as cheating. When we feel we are cheating, we often punish ourselves; we make ourselves feel guilty, frustrated and defeated. Replacing the negative concept of "cheating" with the idea of "straying from healthy habits" takes away the all-or- nothing emphasis on right and wrong. If you treat every deviation from your plan as a failure, you won't get very far

Substituting the idea of a brief straying away from your plan instead of feeling guilty, and learning to return more and more quickly to healthier habits, is more realistic. It's also easier and more enjoyable.

In the non-diet approach, all foods are legal. There are no "good" foods or "bad" foods. You must believe this. Sudden changes and/or drastic restrictions of high-fat foods when you have a preference or craving for fat will result in feelings of deprivation. No one can or should go through life depriving themselves of foods they really enjoy. You must learn how to make gradual healthy changes to the foods you love while experimenting with and learning to appreciate new flavors and textures.

A recent survey showed that more than 75 percent of people feel guilty about eating so-called "bad" foods. The greatest obstacle to adopting healthy eating habits is guilt. Attaching a value to foods only makes you feel bad for eating them. When you do decide to eat a high-fat food, enjoy it. Don't beat your- self up over it. Just make a special effort to eat low-fat the rest of the day. Remember, there is nothing wrong with splurging now and then. It can even be good for you if the satisfaction of a higher-fat meal that you've been craving helps you stick with a low-fat lifestyle the rest of the time.

If you're having a special diet meal that's different from what the rest of your family or friends are eating, you'll feel as though you're being punished. In order to be successful in changing your eating habits, you must look forward to and enjoy each meal you eat. This doesn't mean that you have to learn to like rice cakes and celery. It means you must learn how to make simple changes in the foods you love.

Perhaps one of your favorite meals is fried chicken, a baked potato, and salad. Small changes in how the food is prepared can turn this traditionally high-fat meal into a low-fat well- balanced one. Simply marinating a skinless chicken breast in sweet and sour sauce, rolling it in bread crumbs, and baking it makes the chicken a lot less fattening than if it's fried. Instead of butter or regular sour cream on your potato, try low-fat or nonfat sour cream or a reduced fat ranch dressing. Try using a non-fat or low-fat salad dressing rather than a regular dressing and adding as many vegetables to your salad as possible for their additional flavor, texture and nutrients. Any or all of these changes drastically reduce the amount of fat in the meal without sacrificing flavor or feelings of satisfaction.

Healthy eating patterns can only occur when you're enjoying all the foods you eat. If you're eating low-fat foods just to be healthy but without enjoying the flavors and textures or how they make you feel, this most likely won't be a permanent change. However, if you begin enjoying healthy foods, you're far more likely to stick with healthy eating for life.

Many people also enjoy eating out but associate this with being "bad" or eating "illegal" foods. Fortunately, it is very possible to eat a healthy, low-fat meal in a restaurant. You don't need to forego your favorite foods or eat before you go out with friends or family. The same decision-making process occurs whether you eat at home or go out to a restaurant. Many people think that they have two options when eating: eating for taste and pleasure or eating for health. As you learn and practice healthy eating techniques, these two options will become one and the same. Good luck and enjoy all the wonderful benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.

Loved the post on cheating, Debbie - really hit home and gives me lots of good things to remember.

Thanks for the info on fitday - I'll have to check it out. Last night I downloaded FitnessPlan from the Handago site ($9.95); it was one of the only ones I looked at that included sugars in the nutritional info. I'm still a littly hazy on exactly how I should be doing this, although I've read through the SB book. Basically, I'm trying to eat moderate portions with as little sugar as possible (switched to sugar free whole wheat bread, lots of fruits and veggies, low fat meat, etc.). Been a little headachy the past couple days, but I imagine that will pass once the sugar is out of my system.

I love reading all your posts and your wonderful warm comments - please excuse me if I don't respond to each! I'm still getting used to board and don't want to appear rude or uncaring.

The Palm I'm using is an M125 that I bought off eBay pretty inexpensively. I had a nice HP Pocket PC with all the bells and whistles, but to tell you the truth, I didn't use a fourth of the stuff on it and decided simpler was better. Plus got a pretty purple faceplate for my M125!

Teensy, I'm glad to hear your Grandmother is doing better and it sounds like she will be comfortable around people that she knows. What a blessing for her and your family! My mom's in a nursing home after suffering a massive stroke 4 years ago (diabetest-related). She's had a bedsore on her ankle for weeks that is slow to heal, and this morning when I stopped in she was screaming for a nurse, in more pain than I've ever seen her in. It was all I could do not to cry in front of her. I'm sorry to hear about your Grandfather's stroke, and know first-hand how devastating they can be.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Hi All!

Well it is muggy here - more so than I ever feel in FLA!! AHHHH!!! Tried blowing my hair dry - and it is still wet! Meanwhile, hitting the malls in NJ today for the tax free benefit, along with all the Summer sales - clothes that are considered all year long for Florida :)

Bob - It would be fun to have you here with me shopping till we drop - I have had a blast and ready to keep on truckin today! My parents are laughing at me about how I can shop! How Zach does not have to worry about the chocolate he dripped on his nice shirt, because Mom will just buy you a new one at the rate she is going - hehehehehe Talking about movies, I saw the Terminator 3 and I enjoyed it - for what it is, a silly movie - and I am ready to go drool over Johnny Depp as well - Orlando Bloom does not look too bad I must say!!!!!

Deb - I had Fiber One and Strawberries for breakfast... last night from a Mid East Restaurant we had the peasant salad and WHOLE WHEAT PITA! YEAH!!!!! I have not had ONE thing that was off program! I need to bring my mother back with me, kidnap her, something - though I don't want to move back here! Just like these vists. The skyline when driving in - I have not seen it in "Person" since the summer of 2001 - choked me up - the Empire State Building was so alone.....Melf wrote me - I had written her the other week when the Mr. Bill blew in....I was worried about her and Therman, and the kids and grandkids.

Newbies, Hello, I am glad you found Sugar Busters and this great board! The members are helpful, supportive and kind....when I get back into the groove of posting, it will seem like I am a newbie too.... All new posters... I have been neglectful of posting on the board - and I can tell - I gained! The Board helps me keep on track - as well as my weekend calls to our Detox Dungeon Mistress, Debbie. Hope you find the same wonderful support I have found.

JackK - MISS YOU TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope all is well with you! I have made a promise to myself to stick true to posting and all....With work having been so busy, getting home so tired and stress - the doctor was happy that I had lost 15 pounds since April, but I gained it back in one week after she said You did Great! hahaha

Well time for me to get myself into gear and leave for the malls with Mom and DS - Take care all, and if I get a chance I am definitely going to fight for a spot on the computer tonight for chat!

And to all those I did not respond to - HELLO!!!!!!!!

Hey All:wave:

Been lazy today. Haven't done much other than some cleaning and surfing the net.

Going tonight to the library, they are looking for p/t help, about 19 hours a week. Thought I'd take a chance and see if I can get it, I think it's just 3 days a week, which would be perfect for me. I understand there's a lot of interested applicants though, so we'll see what happens:shrug: Guess I WON'T be seeing BB as it happens, will have to tape it as I don't think I'll be home in time.

DOOR, I bought an older model palm the Palm IIIc, also got mine on Ebay, got one for MICHAEL as well for his upcoming bday. Will have to check out the program you mentioned on Handango. I'll download just about anything and try it out if they have a trial period, but alas, I haven't found one I like as of yet. Other programs that I've found for free are awesome, esp. the one that lets you download pictures! I also like MAXIMUS, a calendar. VEXED is an addicting game. There's lots more! Glad you liked the post. I try to have TUESDAY TIPS things to post but sometimes don't have the time to go find things to do so, today I did:) If you haven't checked out the INFORMATION BOARDS you should when you get a chance, lots of good info archived on those boards. Just remember, those foods with 3grams of sugar or less are acceptable PER SERVING, but if you can find the same food without sugar, it's better:)

TRANQUIL, you are doing so good, it's truly a testament that if you want to stay OP bad enough that you can, even being away from home! I hope I remember this when I take the kids away in a couple weeks! I'm sure you're having a wonderful time, though you best be careful, DM may move from saying something about your weight to saying how you spoil ZACH - remember, they're NEVER happy unless they complain about something;) Thanks again for checking in!!

GHOST, I posted this recipe in April, but I've never actually tried it. If you do try it, would you let us know how it turns out?

Simple Carob Brownies

2/3 c. Water
1/3 c. Oil
¾ c. agave
1 t. Vanilla
1 t. Salt
½ c. Carob Powder

Stir in a large bowl until smooth, and then gradually stir in the following:

2 c. Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
2/3 c. chopped Walnuts (optional)

Spread in an oiled 8 x 8 pan and bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.

HEART,

Okay, back to the kitchen!!!

As some of you already know, there has been a shooting in Meridian, MS. That's where I live. I live about 10 minutes from where it happened. It happened at the Industrial Park(Lockheed). The guy was Doug Williams. He came in the plant where he worked and just started shooting people with a shotgun. He killed 5 and then shot hisself. There are 8 more people at our local hosptials that were injured. I don't know what their condition is. They say the guy was a self proclaimed racist. But that they don't think it was a racist attack since victims were both white and black. I don't know. It's just senseless and I can't understand how a person can have that much hate. Please pray for the families of the victims.

Eating and exercising is going pretty good tihs week. So far so good. :) I loved today's article on there are no no-no's. I think everytime I start doing that I start cheating even more.

I made a yummy little throw together soup this afternoon. Pinto bean soup. One can pintos...two cans water...one can southwest style tomatos with green chilies....onion...jalapeno....cilantro...lime juice...garlic...cumin and salt and pepper. Been munching on bites here and there. I can't wait to actually sit down and eat a bowl.

Deena, welcome!

Jenn....so glad you can hear the baby's heartbeat. I remember those special times. You are making special memories that will last a life time. And when your soon to be little one gets older you can share them.

Deb....woman you wear me out. You are always on the run. I am praying your moma decides not to go with the adkins. I know it works for some but I've heard so many negative things about it. I do know that if your mom has any kind of auto immune type illness this would not be a good plan. Hight protien is bad for lupus...fibro...Ra...ect.

Welcome back frog..it's been a while. Good to see ya.

Heartmom....praying for all those touched by this senseless attack.

Off to munch a little more.

Love and hugs,
Crystle

I've got JURY DUTY tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it at all. :dizzy:

Hello Everybody!!!

I just wanted to check in to say I'm here, I'm eating better and I'm busy. Here's what went on today. 1. Painters came to power wash the house. 2. Carpenter friend came over to hang a door on our new guest room. 3. I stayed home to monitor all this and worked on my curtains for the above-mentioned guest room. Of course, I don't have enough material to line both pairs. But I will get one pair done and hung tonight. I like them pretty much. They aren't fancy and I just bought those little cafe curtain rings to pinch on the top. I was going to put in grommets since I have a grommet maker, but decided to try something even easier.

So needless to say I haven't had any time to read the board. So consider me ridiculously behind. I apologize to everyone who's written something personal to me since Monday and I've missed it.

Guess what??? Remember I told you all about my friends tie dying dresses for my 7 reunion girls? Well, they are done and I just got them today. They are beautiful. You wouldn't believe it. When we have our reunion, I will take a picture of all of us together looking lovely and post it. I've already tried mine on and it's great. I'll get Paul to take a picture of me tonight in it so I can post a little later.

Okay, that's it from this end. I'm trying to make a little supper. Will wonders never cease??? I hope you all are well and doing great. Good luck tomorrow when you weigh in.

Hi Frog! Long time no see  Of, course, I haven't been here either. Sounds like your life has been wild for the past year. Fill us in when you get a chance?

Deb- I did a no-carb diet for a while called "Cyclic Ketogenic Diet". It was designed as Atkins for bodybuilders, and had a one and a half day "carb-up" at the end of the week, to build enough glycogen for lifting, then get back into ketosis for a while. I did lose fat on it, but I really craved vegies! The novelty of eating meals like 2 tablespoons of cream cheese mixed with peanut butter and almonds wore off pretty quickly. I did enjoy having actual yolks in my omelettes, tho.
I really liked that article about "Cheats". Spoke volumes to me, since I tend to be an all or nothing person.

Heartmom- That is so horrible, I can't imagine the devastation for the families. The randomness of it is stupifying.

Bob- I loved your "not a hallmark card" post yesterday. I could write a few more....

Ghost- If you buy the carob chips made by Sunshine (I think) there's a good almost brownie recipe that's SB legal with a few subs printed on the wrapper. I think all you need to change is the honey (use agave). Long ago, I think Deb posted it in the recipe thread. I've been making brownie pancakes which I can almost fool myself with:
1/3 c. dry old fashioned oatmeal
1/3 c. cottage cheese
4 egg whites
1 tbs. cocoa powder
1 teaspoon agave
1 packet stevia
Wing it around in a blender til smooth, then cook it like a pancake. If you can afford the calories, put a few walnuts in it. It's not real sweet, so you might want to up the agave or put in some other legal sweetener.

Sabrina- Don't buy out NY. DD is headed there on Friday and expects to find something left.

I'm feeling really old today: DD is 21. She's spending the summer working for the EPA in Columbus, OH so I won't see her til the weekend. Based on our phone call at 6pm, she was thoroughly enjoying being 21 :dizzy: I hope she remembers she has to work tomorrow. They are not real forgiving with their student interns.

Good afternoon all-- Been running again today. Took the truck in to the dealer this morning. Thought something was wrong with the cruise control. When you would step on the break to undo it, it would really jerk. But they said it was normal for a big deisel truck. Huh?? This is only a Dodge pickup!!

I picked my second cucumber today. They are sooo good. There will be alot ready tomorrow or the next day. We are going to have lots this year. Can't wait for the mato's to get ripe.

Grandma was doing great today. She said her PT went well, and she is talking of going home!! But she won't be able to live by herself now for awhile, (if ever again). But we are not pushing that at her yet!!

Fillise-- Here I am reading the board, and I only came on here to get the recipe for the cobbler. I was out in the garden, and do have to get my rhurbarb picked. And I picked two cucumbers, and willl have about 6 or 7 more tomorrow!! Fresh lettuce and cucumber salad. Can't wait for the tomatoes!! When I bought my WW flour at Wheat Montana bakery, she told me to go to their web site, and see if there was anywhere close that sold it. I found lots of stores here that carry the flour. You might want to try it and see if there is anywhere close to you.

Jack-k-- Boy those shish-kabobs sound good. I love grilled veggies. My brother makes some killer ones, but he works out of town, so don't get to see him too often. Maybe I should get brave and try some. I have taken over Dh grill because I want almost all of my meat done this way to reduce the fat. Glad to hear the BP was down.

BOB-- Dh had the same thing happening to him LAST year. His arms were going numb. They did surgery on his neck. His spinal cord was being pinched so that the spinal fluids where not flowing down the column like they should. So it was causing the numbness. It was a very easy surgery, compared to the other two he has had. (Total hip replacement, and the back surgery). He was only in the hospital overnight. Hope that you will get some results soon. It is not fun to be in pain, let alone constant pain!!

Deb-- You know, after I got the call from my Mom, all I could think about was her lying there calling for help and no one hearing her. I just can't get that picture out of my mind. We all live out in the boonies around here. Grandma lives on my Uncles propery, but they are a quarter mile apart, and he is as hard of hearing as they come!! Even though she is 86, she didn't need any help or any of those life alert monitors, until now, that is. She still just kind of over looks the fact that the Doctor told her she is going to have to stay with someone for quite awhile. When I stopped in to see her today, she was talking about the number of stairs she has at her house. ONE, but there is three at my Mom's. And I think that is where she will be going. My Mom has wanted her to live with her ever since my Dad and then Grandpa passed away. This is my Dad's mother, but Mom said Grandma raised her too. (My folks were married at the young age of 16.)

Door-- Thank you for your kind words. I hope that your Mother finds some relief from her pain. My dear Grandfather passed away two years ago. And I still miss him so much.

Well, I smell my turkey breast cooking, best get that recipe and get off here!!

Hi All:

I snacked on a few Strawberries, had 6 triscuits with peanut butter made with the only ingredient being peanuts (fresh ground in front of Mom), for lunch I ordered 1/2 a Balsamic Vin Salad from California Pizza Kitchen and only ate 1/2 of it - it was not the best....for dinner we went Japanese, so I asked if they could make sushi using brown rice, and they were more than happy to do that - so I had two cucumber rolls made with brown rice and a cup of Miso soup...then home and snacked on about 4 more strawberries....breakfast was the Fiber One and berries....We walked, shopped and then I had enough! My feet are killing me....

Mel - I will do my best not to shop out NYC - but though I wish I could, I could not ;) But I have done a good job trying....

Bob - we are going to watch Punch Drunk Love video tonight - have not heard your review on it yet as I have been missing in action - did you see it and did you like it? Poor thing, Jury Duty - YUCH!!!!

Crystal - I love your new little icon - you look terrific!!! You are definitely an inspiration!!!! Soup sounds delish!

Quilter - I tell you this house stuff gets stressful - they are pulling up my floors in the downstairs at this very moment in my house - I am having the entire downstairs tiled - it was carpeted...no more...I picked out tile, paid for it (it was in stock) to get a phone call from the frantic salesman to tell me he was picking out different, but similar tile for me to look at - seems there was a big mess up in the wherehouse - the tile I bought and PAID for was sold out from beneath my nose to someone else.....so oh well, back to square one.... Looking forward to seeing your picture with the dresses....

Tomorrow is the Gugenheim and lunch at Serendipity III....take care all! Have an OP Night!

Good Tuesday!

Day 2 SF. I know this gets easier as it goes along! Just gotta keep plugging away day by day.

We closed on our house today :high: , even though we took possession 10 days ago. We have more square footage, it's completely remodeled (our other one still needed much more work and we were getting tired of being weekend warriors), just needs a new roof which we'll get in the next few weeks. Our lot is larger and our bedroom is HUGE! The floor plan is much more to our liking as well. we have a large wrap around front porch and a BBQ deck on the side of the house. It was built in 1930 like our last one and is only 1/2 mile away. Nonetheless, is still took us 5 full days to get the two of us moved over here. :stress:

Dixie and Kitty (Mary-Ca) made the move with us and have adjusted well.

Work is still going well. Not doing so much with Southern Living at Home at the moment. Too busy with all the other things going on.

We went camping for a long weekend with my family in the NC mountains about a month ago. All at the same time we were preparing for moving, camping, and having our kitchen remodeled in the former house. I was a nut case to say the least. :yikes:

Mr. Frog got a nice promotion at the first of May and I'm so proud of him. :goodvibes: We still work one block from each other and enjoy that.

Not much else has changed here!

Gotta run! Talk at y'all later!

Peace,
FROG

Thank you for the recipes, Deb and Meliris. By the time I saw them, I had already tried one I found, made with sg whole wheat flour and aspartame sweetened yogurt. They came out very nicely. Until disaster struck. I accidentally left the burner on that I'd been using to melt the chocolate (set on low) -- then my husband set the pan of finished brownies on top of it (not realizing it was on). Well, now we have brownies with some really well-done bottoms. Duh! So, looks like I'll have occasion to make another batch.

Kim -- I have a question for you -- it looks like your starting weight and my current weight are very close (well, I flatter myself, because mine is 4 pounds more, but ANYWAY... *lol*) I was just wondering how long it took you to get down to your current weight. Looks like you've lost nearly 20 lbs -- way to go! :)

GHOSTDEEN---Hi! Welcome! I guess I missed when you joined our group. Sorry about my many absences these days. Well, I started back on track on January 23 of this year. (I'm an on again/off again person. Been with this group for over two years.) So I guess you can say it's 5 months. But don't get discouraged, because I have played around many a week and not been true to what I should be doing. You could probably lose more than 20 in 5 months if you stick to your guns. I will say that I have been exercising regularly and I think that helps a lot too. GOOD LUCK to you!!! This is a great place to come for support and encouragement. There are many people like DEB and JACKK and MELF who have lost so much weight and are so healthier than they were. I look to them for inspiration. I hope you will do the same.

Good night all!!!

 Hi Everyone

Here's my contribution for Tuesday Tip Day

Weight loss requires that you change the way you eat, the amount you exercise, the way you think about food, and more. That's a lot! And when you're looking at such a huge step from square one, it can seem really scary.

The key is to break the weight loss process down into smaller steps, so success will seem more accessible. As you accomplish each "mini-goal," you'll feel like a winner. That sense of accomplishment is great motivation for meeting more mini-goals, and more, until suddenly you're at the weight you've always wanted.

"Making small changes one at a time is a great strategy," agrees Dr. Howard Rankin, A Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, psychologist and author of Inspired to Lose (Step Wise Press, 2001). "It's not overwhelming, and it results in a slower, more steady weight loss."

Remember: When it comes to weight loss, slow and steady wins the race. It's the pace that will help you get to your goal, then stay there.
:cp:

I try to remember this everyday.

Today I had a tough day at work. So as you know, I wanted to eat to cut the stress. But instead of eating off plan I just had more of the OP stuff. Hopefully, I won't fall off the wagon like I did before when things became so stressful.:tape:

Deb...thanks for asking about work and suggesting that I try to just take a break for awhile away from disaster response. I'm not sure what I want to do and right now we are going through major org. changes. I have a job and should be happy because there are people who won't have one but I'm just questioning career wise what I should do. I'm 41. Any major change I make needs to be soon. Otherwise I will start to worry about losing benefits and retirement if I want to change jobs. Plus I have to put both kids through college and that starts in 2 years:fr: I hope you get your library position...it sounds ideal.

Frog...glad things are going well for you.

Heart...I'm so sorry for what happened in Meridian. My thoughts are with the families.

Everyone else. No time to reply to all but know I am thinking about you.:D

Hope everyone has a good WIW:hat:

Oh man that show "Unwrapped" on the food channel is great but gives me the munchies big time!!
I'm scared to drink a beer now because is been doing this for so long I'm scare I'll go into insulin shock or something.
I went to a friends house on the 4th for fireworks and brought
