Hello everyone! It's so nice to see all the enthusiasm in here! :goodvibes

I'm still hanging in, and it's been pretty easy so far! I'm rarely ever hungry at all. Just a little bored with the food choices, but Phase 2 is just around the corner! I'm going to loan my book to sister Jennifer this week, and hope she'll follow it with us. She just got back from the "real" beach, so she may feel inspired to jump in!

Good luck to everyone this week!

Good morning!

The book has been read and I will be making my grocery list this morning. Wednesday is start day. DH has read the book too and is very supportive. He has promised not to ask me "red or white" before dinner. :)

LindaBC and I are going to be email Fluffy Buds for Phase I. Wish us luck but we will rely on skill and planning.

Hi Suzanne and Ruth. I know this diet is a good one and I'm happy to be back on it. Being out of control around food is like being in a constant panic attack. I have a lot of sympathy for anyone who can't control their alcohol. I feel the same way around food. It's very humbling.

Hi Suzanne, Ruth & Nora,

Starting week 2 of Phase 1. I'm feeling really good BUT the scale's not showing a loss (yet). I haven't had a drop of wine either but I'm thinking maybe I'm not drinking enough water and having too much FF yogurt.... I'll try increasing the former and decreasing the latter this week.

Good Luck and stay :strong: on he Beach Chicks! I'm putting on my socks and sneaks and hitting the gym. See you later and have a great day on the Beach! :D

Blessings + cheers,

Yesterday's Ottawa Citizen had a full page on this "diet". it probably ran in other papers too as it was syndicated.
It may start to get crowded on The Beach. The more the merrier!

Morning Everyone!
Today is my day 1 of Phase One on the beach. Did the grocery shopping on Saturday. I think I have my menus planned pretty well for the day and that should help. Also we will be gone for part of the evening and that will help, cuz evening is my WORST time for falling off the wagon so to speak. Hopefully we can keep each other OP and enjoy our successes together.
Off to do my Body Flex before DS can come home and roll his eyes at me again.

I started the SB Diet yesterday. Hope you don't mind me popping in. The first day went very well. I was surprised that I hardly felt hungry. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Beach Babes

Welcome to all of the new ladies on the beach. It's so nice to see new people joining in.

Good luck to all tose who just started and a big :bravo: to all those who have been doing well.

ANNA~~You're right about needing the water. This is important in any type of diet. Be very careful about the yogurt, though. It is not allowed on Phase 1 ( Page 127~"avoid all dairy in Phase 1" ) except the tiny amounts that are in Phase 1 recipies. You can choose to incorporate it as one of your new carbs in Phase 2. Be careful becasue FF does not mean Sugar Free~lots of carbs in a yogurt.

Ruth and LindaBC~~I know you can do it!!!!!!!!

Today starts my 4th week and my official weigh-in this morning shows another pound down, for a total lose of 8 pounds so far. I'm still taking Phase 2 slowly.
Last weekend at work they had our annual Ice Cream Social where you can make your own banana split with all the fixings including mini candies. I saw all the staff coming back and eating theirs at the nurses station and I did not even want any. I also turned down the chocolate candy boxes that were on the counters :bravo: I was so proud because it didn't bother me at all.

Today is day one for me. I have one quick question.
What about sugar-free gum....is it allowed and if so, how much?
Thanks!

Ramona-I think the book said up to 75 calories a day of sugar free candy and gum. Can anyone verify that?

2BFIT1-Wow! Great going on passing up all those sugary treats!!

Anna-Yup! 2B is right, yogurt isn't allowed in Phase 1. I want some too!!

Nora-I understand what you mean completely. Been there myself too.

Suzanne-It HAS been pretty easy, hasn't it?! The only time I have had problems is when I don't stay on top of my meals and snacks and I get too hungry.

Ruth, Susanje, LindaBC, Aleka, AdoAnnie-You will love this WOE! It really is GREAT!!

Thanks for the tip Sil!

I hadn't looked at that page yet! The yogurt I've been having is 0% fat and has 8g of carbs per cup so I'd thought it was comparable to having the ricotta. again!

Sooooo now I've opened the book to page 127 and there it is, indeed. Sheesh, I feel pretty silly but re-invigorated as I had suspected it might be the yogurt that was holding me back. Thanks again!

Blessings + cheers, :dancer:

Good morning ladies! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I had an opportunity to really enjoy Summer this weekend by going on a sunset picnic with DH and Dog, taking a 10 mile hike and a baseball game yesterday. Stayed pretty much OP except a couple of light beers at the ballpark. We walked 2 milles each way to the game so I didn't feel too badly about the beers.

We had a couple of great meals/dishes that are worth passing on to fellow Phase Oners:

Edmame Salad - from the book is really good and I think a good base for a lot of potential variety. I also love it added to a tossed salad. Consider it for your Fourth of July plans.

King Crab and Grilled Asparagus - Great hot weather "eat it with your hands' meal. Costco had a great deal on the crab.

"Quiche" - I ran out of eggs (imagine that) and blended the few that I had with what little egg beaters I had, cottage cheese, laughing cow light - then poured it in a oiled pie plate with some diced canadian bacon and minced onion for a crustless quiche. It turned out very well and was nice and puffy like a quiche should be.

Blue Bunny swirl ice cream on a stick. Sorry I don't know what they are really called but they come in a box with orange and rasberry swirl bars on the front, are sweetened with splenda and are 70 calories. Very good.

Really great to hear that you all are finding this plan easy to follow. For the new folks - I can't believe how great I feel now that Day 4 and 5 are past. Lots more energy, better sleep, clearer skin, and down 4 pounds in the first week.

Ramona - Den is right, pn page 127 - you're allowed 75 cals of SF treats per day - I'm guessing that's an awful lots of SFGum! :D

Stay :strong: on the Beach Chickies! :dancer:

Well, I couldn't get the book from the Amazon seller who had it the cheapest - so I got it at WalMart so I wouldn't have to wait for shipping. Guess I really didn't follow the plan too well, but I lost 6+ pounds last week. I'm sure it was mostly water weight plus the fact that I was just eating less than usual. Did my shopping this morning and stocked up on lowfat cheeses, veggies, etc., so this week should be more "by the book".

I made the cheesecake recipe last week and had a couple of questions. I thought the texture was too spongy and am wondering if it was because I used FF ricotta. Anyone else have this happen? I got some farmers cheese at the store today as a substitute for cream cheese. Now that I think about it, that's probably not "legal" in P1. It will keep until I move into P2 and then I might try it in the cheesecake recipe. Another mistake I made was to freeze the mini cheesecakes I made. Too much water in them and they had frozen crystals inside. Eeeeuuuu!!!
I love those storebought cheesecake bites and thought I would try to get that effect - won't do that again!!!!!

Thanks for all the great tips and the encouragement that everyone on the board shares. It really helps!

Hi Everyone--Just checking in this afternoon to see what was going on. I have made half way through day one anyway---the fact that I have been buried in the black hole known as my closet that I'm cleaning out sure helped!!

Menu for the Day

Breakfast--2eggwhites/1egg scrambled, 2 slices Canadian bacon--water with lemon.

Lunch--tuna with lettuce, tomato, onion and 1 TBS of Mayo Light

Grilled chicken early so that tonight when we get home from DS's baskeball game we can just put together the stuff for the grilled chicken salads.

How does that look?

The book is an easy read--I read it in like 1 1/2 days.

Okay, better get going! Have a good day.

Congrats on your weight loss :high:

Karen~~ WOW!!!!! 6 pounds lost last week~~who cares if it's water :bravo:

For today:
B~~oatmeal
cherries (12)

L~sirloin burger patty

D~shrimp, asparagus and avocado salad w/lettuce

I've never had grilled asparagus, sounds good!

I went out to lunch today with friends to a little sandwich shop that makes the best sandwiches. So yes, I ate bread! I wasn't supposed to add carbs until Wednesday, but there you go. However, it wasn't really a bad meal. It was a pile of smoked turkey breast with provolone cheese and lots of grilled mushrooms, all on a bun and served hot. I left part of the bun behind, but I still ate more than one slice's worth.. They served it with potato chips, and I did eat 3 bites from one chip but left all the rest behind. The sandwich itself was more than satisfying.

Has anyone had spaghetti squash? I noticed it in the menu for Phase 2, but it's not in the list for either phase, so I'm wondering if it's allowed in phase 1 as well. I love spaghetti squash.

07-01-2003, 01:01 AM
Hi Everyone!!!!

Suzanne...From what I have read...spag. squash is not allowed until Phase 2 being a starchy veggie. If the bread you ate didn't set off any cravings, don't sweat it! You will be fine.

Everyone seems to be doing great! Keep up the attitude!!!

As I have said, this is my 8th week on SBD. It's going slow, but it's going  . I just want to let you know that in the last two days, I have been very physical between using the treadmill and gardening (digging and speading mulch). Not only did I see a difference on the scale but I was so busy, I never felt hungry and I had to actually remember I HAD to eat. I know this is nothing new to report, but I just know that for me, if the exercise is not there and if I am not keeping busy, most of the time, I get in trouble.

I have also noticed that if I do not eat every three hours my stomach will let me know. So I feel that my body has adjusted to this WOE and I am hoping I can continue with this indefinately.

One other thing...for the first 6 weeks I was really good with the planning of my meals. Lately, due to being sooooo busy, I have become very sloppy with it. Although I have managed to stay OP I can see how it would be easy to slip do to the fact that I haven't been to the market or I just haven't taken the time to cook for myself. I am going to work on this!!!!!!

Have a great SBD day!!!1

Meg~~~~~~

Hmmmmmm - spaghetti squash is a "summer" squash so might be allowed. According to Fitday 1 cup is 9.96 carbs and 2.16 fiber. Kidney beans ARE allowed on Phase I. They are 39.6 carbs and 16.38 fiber.
I vote to allow spaghetti squash - especially since I have one on my kitchen counter right now!

Hi everyone! I made it through day 1 with no problems. However, when I got up this morning, I couldn't even stand the thought of eggs or anything else for that matter. I forced myself to eat some baked chicken for lunch. I don't feel sick, I just don't feel hungry enough to eat anything, and I know that isn't good. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

How are you all going to handle the 4th of July celebrations? Any suggestions for treats that are still on plan?

2BFIT1
07-01-2003, 02:37 PM
Hey Ruth~~~I thought that the spaghetti squash was starchy, too, but the book says that spaghetti squash has a glycemic index of <20, same as all of the phase 1 veggies. So, I would think that it would be OK. Go ahead and cook that squash:chef:

Ramona~~~I haven't planned for the 4th yet. It's been raining all week here :rain: and I was hoping to grill outside.I better have a back-up plan.

Meg~~~ I also have trouble remembering to eat, especially if I'm outside in the yard working. It really does make a difference to have prepared foods/snacks on hand, doesn't it?

I love spaghetti squash and have considered it a Phase 1 vegetable also.

Grilled asparagus is really great and we serve it the time as an appitizer or for snacks. I like it with olive oil and balsmic on it marinade and sprinled with Kosher salt when its done. Any leftovers are great on salads.

Meg - You must be creating quite a garden - flowers, vegetables or relandscaping?

Tonight's planned creation is chicken breasts stuffed with spinach, Laughing cow light, sun dried tomatoes and artichoke bottoms. Its out of the Weber Big Book of Grilling. . . truly one of my favorite cookbooks. The recipe actually calls for goat cheese but I'm certain LCL will work just fine.

Wishes for a great day to all of you!

Ruthxxx
07-01-2003, 03:18 PM
Hey, Susie, could you post that recipe when you gt a chance. It sounds terrific and I usually have all that stuff on hand. I love LCL cheese and am sure it will be even better than goat cheese. It sounds like a good one to serve my skinny girlfriend who is coming for a visit next week.

Ramona,

I feel the same way. I did fine on Day 1 but today I had some turkey bacon for breakfast--4 pieces and since then nothing (it's just lunch time here now). I'm grilling chicken now to put over some veggies but I'm not hungry. :dizzy:

Day 9 on the diet and my scale said 10 pounds gone. I find this pretty hard to believe and it will probably be up a little tomorrow! I was painting in my bathroom yesterday and really working up a sweat and that has to be the reason for the big drop in one day.

I should also mention that I started taking One-A-Day Weight Smart vitamins the same time I started this woe. I won't be able to tell if it's having any effect, but I'm getting in my vitamins now - which I wasn't before.

2BFIT1
07-01-2003, 05:36 PM
Way to go, Karen :bravo: and thanks for the reminder to take our vitamins. I tend to forget sometimes.

Susie~~I just remembered that i have 2 artichokes in the kitchen. I think for dinner we'll have marinated and sauteed chicken breast strips, roasted veggies and artichokes with a dip of pureed cottage cheese and spices (mock sour cream).

OK, I take back what I said earlier about not being hungry:moo:

HI! Checking in...I slipped last night (pistachios again! I won't be buying more once this lot is gone!!) but I'm back on track today.

Glad to hear that everyone is doing so well!! I want to come and eat at all YOUR houses!!!!!

Sil - that sounds wonderful.

I am going to post the recipe as written under Phase 1 recipes but remember that it does have the goat cheese in it and without a substitution, might really be a Phase 2.

Suzanne 3FC
07-02-2003, 12:29 AM
Thanks for the info, guys, spaghetti squash will definitely be on my next grocery list!

Den, I've decided just not to buy pistachios anymore either, lol! I can't keep my hands out of them.

I've been eating a lot of salads the last few days. The produce stands are loaded right now, so I have garden fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, and all the good stuff. Tastes like summer!

I smoked some chicken breasts tonight, so that was good. However, I really missed not being able to dip it in barbecue sauce. Does anyone know of any good sugar free BBQ sauces that would be suitable on this diet?

Jennifer told me about a product called Lentil Pasta, that is made just from lentils. Lentils are fairly low on the glycemic index, so it should be a good food on this diet. Has anyone ever tried it?

Hi Everyone,

Glad to see all of you.

I just wanted to share something with you about the ricotta desserts. First, you probably figured out that this dessert is much more palatable if served real cold. As I stated before, I make a bunch of different flavors at one time and freeze them. What I didn't mention was what I do when I take them out of the freezer. I nuke it for a few minutes (at a low power) just to take the frost off and then I stick it back into the food processor. Process it until it breaks up and then just spin for a few more seconds. This seems like a pain, but yum is it good!!! Even those that hate the stuff might change their minds. :D It ends up smooth, thick, COLD, and almost like ice cream....well, I said almost  When you get to phase 2 try the berries in there...oh so good.

Den~~~~I had to stop the pistachio nuts too!!!!! Do like I said, put them into recipes or in your ricotta dessert. That way they are measured out.

Have a great beach day everyone!!!

Good Wednesday Morning, Chicks on the Beach!

I'm on Day 10, Phase I AND I'm ecstatic to report there are 6 fewer pounds on this here frame! :dancer:

Thanks to Sil pointing out page 127 to me (I hadn't finished the book!), I stopped having the FF yogurt completely, increased my water consumption and voila! Thanks for all your support! :grouphug:

I'm feeling much lighter and tighter thanks to SBD and adding Pilates and Hatha Yoga to my weekday gym mix as well.

Got some caulilflower yesterday and will be making the 'surprise cauliflower' later today - it's actually a recipe I've been making for some time and there's a lot you can do to vary it - I add tumeric and curry sometimes which makes it a beautiiful color and also sparks it up a bit.

OK for now,, have a great day on the Beach Chicks! I'm getting my socks and sneaks and heading to ye olde gym. :strong:

I am continually amazed and delighted with all the motivation and determination that this group shows on a daily basis. I want to thank you all for this because it really gives me the support and encouragement that I need. :grouphug:

Now that I'm on Phase 2, today I want to try the Lemon Ricotta with a few blueberries. I make about 4 servings of the desserts and keep them in little individual containers in the fridge. The freezing method sounds good, but I need instant dessert handy. I like to top it with a spoonful (or 2 :s: ) of cool whip.

I have go in to work for a meeting this evening from 4:30 - 7:30 and won't be home until 8:30. So DH is on his own for dinner. I'll probably come home and grill a sirloin burger on the Foreman Grill and have some leftover veggies/artichoke.

If 3fc has a click through with any of these sites perhaps Suzanne could post those links because we should definitely use those instead (to support this site). If not, perhaps 3fc could sign up for them. :)

My big news: My DS16 and my DH were on the couch eating Doritoes last night, and while they smelled good I had no urge to eat them!!!! This is almost miraculous for me!!! Any salty greasy snack has been too hard to pass on for me in the past. I must REALLY be getting detoxed!!!

Susie-That recipe sounds GREAT!! It is many of my favorite things all rolled in to one!!!

Suzanne-LENTIL PASTA?!? Never heard of it. Let us know if it is any good and WHERE to find it!! That might be a BIG help for us if it tastes any good!!! I found some BBQ sauce recipes in the low carb section of 3FC. I'll dig them out and repost them under phase 1 recipes.

Meg-I know you are right!! I just had too many in the house (I had bought a HUGE bag at Costco...My kids have now nearly polished them off though!!!)

Ruth-YAY!!! Glad to hear that DH is being so supportive. it helps a lot when they are!!!

Anna-GOOD FOR YOU!! You stuck with it, tightened up, and VOILA! You have lost weight!! I need to add the exercise too. Hopefully with a few more pounds off I can do it comforabley!!!

Anna and Karen...WTG to you too!!! so happy for both of you!

Ruth...it's going to be great having your hubby doing this too, wish mine (who needs to lose 25) would try it out!!

Suzanne...I know this isn't barbQ sauce, but it really has helped me out. I use a mild salsa (watch labels). I use it with chicken, turkey burgers and even fish...then I add it to salads or cottage cheese. It's like my favorite condiment now.

Keep up the great work everyone!!!!!

Thanks for asking, Sil.
I had a perfect day yesterday! :cb: I didn't even find it hard to give up my pre-dinner drink and wine with my meal. I walked for an hour in total and found I am down 2.5 pounds this morning. I'm sure that is fluid because I was retaining a bit from the heat and soy sauce but still.....very encouraging!

Meg, my DH weighs only 142 pounds at 5'8" so is not going on this plan with me. However, he is very supportive and loves the recipes in the book which he has read thoroughly. He will be eating the same meals as I am but with extra portions and extra good carbs. He has promised not to eat strawberries in front of me!

Today's food is already planned. I'm off to take dog #2 for her walk.

Have a nice day on The Beach.

Greetings Chicks on the Beach!

Here I am starting Day 11, P1 and I have a question or two. First, does anyone know the glycemic value of raw oysters? I'm entering dangerous turf tonight b/c I have a dinner with a pal who is recently back from working overseas and we're going to a restauarant that specializes in oysters. The other landmine is the potential of wine  I don't know if I can manage to have one glass or even none, but I'm certainly going to give it an emphatic try. :strong:

Never mind! I checked on fitday and oysters are high in carbs! esp the ones from the Pacific. hmmm, that adds another minefield to this dinner. argh

The other question is - are we supposed to have the ricotta as a once a day item - say 1/2 cup with Splenda and flavorings and no more than the half cup?

I think the Beach is going to be crowde after the 4th! :D

Meg: Thanks for all the encouragement!

Ruth: It's good to have you on the Beach and it's great how supportive your DH is, too!

Den: WTG w/o the Doritos! Another victory! :dancer:

Sil: Thanks for the instant dessert tip! I'm using ricotta lite instead of the part-skim and it's equally good.

Susanje: Thanks for the links.

Have a great day on the Beach ALL you gorgeous Chicks! :grouphug:

Hello everyone! Where'd everyone go, lol! Preparing for the holiday weekend perhaps? We were going to have a cookout, but I don't know what to fix. Hamburgers are kind of messy to carry around without that bun. No potato salad, no chips, no baked beans with maple sugar... No banana splits, no strawberry shortcake... Well, at least the company will be good :p

Ruth, I'll be anxious to hear how it goes for you today, good luck!

Susan, thanks for all those links! I'll check to see if any have affiliate programs. We have Low Carb Connoisseur (http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?low-carb+xyqUK9+index.html) though we've not really promoted it much. I'll enjoy looking through all of them to see what I can find that's good to eat, thanks!

Den, I'll see which sites offer the lentil pasta! I did find a Canadian place online that makes Ruth's Lentil and HEMP Pasta ,lol. I'd like to find some lentil flour and try to make my own pasta with it. I bought a pasta maker in January, with the anticipation of making loads of wild mushroom stuffed ravioli, and other goodies, but it never made it out of the box.

Anna, a website quoted this for oysters "The glycemic index is non-existent for oysters". Also, my info says 3 ounces of raw Pacific oysters have 3 carbs, and raw Eastern oysters have 4 carbs. For quantity, is shows 10 eastern oysters as 1/3 cup, and 3 carbs. It shows 1 Pacific oyster as having 2.47 carbs. Just how big is a Pacific oyster? Anyway, have fun at the dinner, and contrats so far!!

Meg, thanks for the tip on the salsa. I had it with lunch today! It was ok. Not BBQ sauce, but it definitely helped!

Whimsey, have a great week! We'll look forward to having you with us :) Keep hanging around, though, and maybe it will help you off to a good start! Good luck with the glasses, I know what you are going through! I came SO close to buying the large print version of the SBD book, lol.

Congrats and good luck to every one!

OH, me... I'm sticking with phase 1 a few more days. I don't feel quite ready for phase 2, as my weight didn't budge after the first week. But then I've had my butt in this chair working 18 hours a day for the last few days. If you don't move it....

Still following the guidelines, but I'm getting bored with the food. Just don't have time to putz around with new recipes right now. We are on vacation for the next week, so hopefully nothing will happen to derail my progress so far.

Everybody have a safe and fun 4th and you neighbors to the north have a wonderful weekend, too!

Take care!

Ruth-CONGRATULATIONS on starting SBD and having such a successful start!!! Losing water weight is FINE; we have more of that than skinny people too. (I HATE it when people tell me "You just lost water weight." WHO CARES!! I NEED TO LOSE THAT TOO!!!) I have a bone to pick with you Ruthie....WHAT ELSE ARE YOU DOING IN YOUR BACK 40 BESIDES GROWING "HEMP"?!?

Suzanne-I wonder how many carbs hemp has?!? By the way, I posted some BBQ recipes under phase 1 recipes. You sound like me with the special gadgets!! I have a yogurt maker AND a crockpot that I haven't even used yet!!!

Anna-How STRANGE!! I thought all protein sources would have zero carbs!!!
Hope you have fun!!!

Meg and 2BFIT 1-THANKS to BOTH of you!! I DO feel good being able to pass them by so easily!!! All the great support here sure helps!!!

Hello all you beach chicks. I'm baaaaaaccckkkkkk! Yes, I've been on a little (well BIG) binge and now I'm ready to get back on Phase 1. I hope I have more success with it this third time around. So far today I've had two eggs scrambled with low fat cheese, 1 oz lean ham, 1 avocado chopped into a brocolli salad, 1 chicken breast with red peppers, onions and mushrooms. Dinner will be more chicken but with spinach salad. I'm also going to make some s.f. jello to help me with my snack cravings.
I have to stay away from any kind of nuts (the edible kind .. Ruth doesn't count. ) because I can't leave them alone. It doesn't help to count them out. I just go back for more and more and more. I can never have enough of them whether or not they are salted. I just love 'em. I'm addicted to them. I've tried stashing them in the freezer, but I even like them frozen solid. Nope, I am simply not going to buy them anymore. They are such a trigger food for me. I think there are other Chicks finding out the same thing. Maybe if I was in a cage and people were only allowed to throw 15 nuts to me, I could manage.
Congratulations on your great success on Day 1, Ruth. I think maybe I should get myself a couple of dogs that need walking. That seems to be doing the trick for you.
A big welcome to all the newbies. Good luck on da Beach!

Hi everyone! Finishing up day 4 here. I love reading everyone's posts! Everyone's doing so well!!! :bravo:

Well, I went to the gym early early. Came home and had a no carb protein drink and took a wee nap. Got up to study (I'm studying for the bar exam) and then Fooled around with the food at lunch time and came up with something pretty tasty. I don't really like hamburger without the bun or catsup but was pretty bored at lunchtime and kept wandering around the kitchen. Nothing really grabbed my fancy.

we had some leftover ground sirloin. So I mixed a small amt of garlic powder and red onion into it, cooked up on the Forman, then I sprinkled with some tomato chunks (from a regular tomato, the book says limit 1 but I think it was less than half). I put low fat mozzarella over the tomato, sprinkled oregano and basil plus salt and pepper and threw it under the broiler for about a minute and viola!

hamburger pizza!!!

had boring old chicken strips over lettuce for dinner but that was okay. Lunch was good enough for me.

I also love sf popsicles and find they are hard to find sometimes! Every store around me sells out all the time. Well, it's good people are getting healthy! but HEY save some for me!!! :)

Have a good fourth everyone! I'll be home studying but don't let that stop you from having a good time

Susan, I have the same problem with SF Fudgcicles. I really like them but the store sells out of them quickly. I've tried theSF Creamsicles but they aren't very tasty.

I just hung my American flag from the front porch and am feeling very patriotic in 1/4 of my very fluffy body! My Grandpa was from Maine. The dogs are both American although Lucy was born here!

Hey, LindaBC, I noticed your crack about my mental stability! I'll get you for that when I see you in August!

Susanje, the "pizza" sounds great. I may crank up my GF and do one for lunch.

This diet is amazing! I have now gone two days without wine or a pre-dinner drink. Now that sounds like I'm a lush but it's just that wine with dinner has been a part of our lifestyle for years. If I lose weight, that will be part of the reason.

This morning, I am suddenly bored with eggs! I need to figure out a protein drink - maybe egg whites, protein powder and a bit of Crystal Lite or SF Jello? Chicken strips on lettuce are getting pretty old for me too.

I have yet to find SF posicles or their ilk in any of the stores around here. I may have to take the cooler and ice packs and get some when I go to The City (Ottawa) on Monday. They sure would be a great treat on a day like today when the temps will be in the low 90's.

I've not walked the dogs yet so had better get to it before the temps get above 80F.

Have a great day, all.

Greetings Chicks on the Beach and Happy 4th to the Statesiders!

We're due for 90+ temps today and humidity too which equals nothing but bad hair days and sweatiness. ugh On a happier note though, I managed my dinner out with my hard-drinking buddy and had A glasws of white wine and a large bottle of San Pellegrino. In fact, I didn't finish my glass of wine (unhearde of!) and gave it to my pal. I had 4 Wellfleet oysters, 4 grilled shrimp and a salad. Amazing. When I walked home though, I was humgry and had a hard boiled egg and some hummus. I have two kins of hummus in the fridge now and find it really filling - just a bit with some red pepper slices really does the trick. :D

Ruth: Happy Day 2 of P1! :balloons: I agree with Den - who cares if it's water weight? It's getting it out and off yo that counts! YAY for you and walking those dogs! Mine, the originbal operadog, doesn't enjoy those walks so much unless we're in the country and he's off-lead... we'll be going up to the Cape later this month and that will just great for him (and me too).

Den: Those Pacific oysters are BIG - there's nothing about oysters in the book but according to fitday they've got carbs, fat and NO fiber. Si I just had four Eastern ones. :D The grilled shrimp came with asparagus and grilled bread but I asked them to omit the bread - much to the consternation of the bartender who heard the ordeer and found it hard to believe! LOL

LindaBC: "Third times a charm!" Good luck w/Phase 1 - I'm thinking of staying with phase 1 and just adding a wee bit of wine and a berry or two next week... i'll see how I'm doing.

OK Chicks, I'm off for my morning walk (instead of the gym today) before it's too damn hot around here. Have a Beachy Day and Happy 4th!

Blessings + cheers,
ANNA

Dentrassi~~~Please call me Sil, plus it's easier to type.;)

Susanje~~~Thanks for the hamburger pizza idea.I was wondering what I was going to do to my hamburger patty today and now I will feel like I'm celebrating the 4th with everybody else.

Ruth and Linda~~ Way to go, gals. One day at a time and I know you can do this. It does get easier with each day that goes by. So, stay away from your trigger foods and soon you won't have those cravings for them.

Anna~I'd say enjoy the oysters. At least you're also getting some protein with it. Be careful with the wine. I found that 1 glass of white wine (I know, I know )on occassions like this, did not make a difference in my progress. I just followed it with lots of water. But if it is a trigger food for you, then I would stay away from it for now. Enjoy the evening with your friend~~but no dessert~

Thanks SIL!

I kept it to less than one one glass of white wine AND had a whole litre of San Peligrino (sp?).

What do you say about the ricotta? Can we have more than one half cup a day or will that slow us down as well? I just got back from my walk and went to the suspermarket where I saw they now are featuring a Low Carb frozen desssert.. I picked it up, read the label, decided that it could be a trigger food and kept to my lean and mean market basket :) :bravo: you, me and SBD!

Yay! Thanks soo much for your support. :grouphug:

Operadog, I think we should probably stick to just 1/2 cup of ricotta a day. Maybe make some diet jello to alternate with the ricotta for snacks. Today I took a container of ricotta cheese and whipped it in the food processor until all the grittiness was gone and then I added a whole package of s.f. strawberry jello plus a bit of Splenda and almond extract and whipped it some more. I just had a 1/2 cup of it and it was nice and creamy and tasty. I have frozen the rest of it to see if it's anything like strawberry ice cream.
I'm still OP and feeling a bit better. The cravings really hit me last night but I managed to resist. First time in over a week that I haven't needed a couple of Tums before going to bed. :o

By the way, Ruth, I just read an on-line article about alcohol and the low carb diet at this website, which might interest you. Even the diet gurus don't agree on the matter.

Hi, My name is Shari. I'm new to this board. I just finished reading the book and have gone grocery shopping. Now will spend the weekend preparing foods for the week and will start Phase I, Day I on Monday. The only way I can stick to any eating plan is to prepare on the weekend. I work a lot of hours some days and when I get home I don't want to do much, I find doing all the prep on the weekends really helps. I am 5' 10" and have about 110 lbs or so to lose. This woe looks pretty simple to follow.

Take care, have a great weekend!
Shari

Hi, Shari, and welcome. Sounds like you're all set. Why wait until Monday to start though? You have all the ingredients so start right now. That way you'll be two days into Phase 1 by Monday and over the worst of the cravings and possible headaches. It's no fun having those hit while you're at work.
I have a lot of weight to lose too so you're among friends here. I sure wish I had your extra inches in height though. It's the pits being short and round.

Hello Shari and Welcome!! you are going to love the SBD and you are going to love all the support and friendship here.

I typed a real long winded post to you and then my computer froze so I lost it. But in a nutshell...this way of eating works and I see that you have the right attitude already. Preparation is the key to success!!!!! We are here for you, ask questions and please use the recipe thread to keep you from getting bored. Best wishes and looking forward to getting to know you.

Hey Suzanne....I DID buy the large print, so glad I did

Linda...you will do it this time! We are here to cheer you on.

Ruth...funny thing about your hubby...I thought since he read the book he was going on with you...well still nice to know he supports you! Congrats on you first two days...it only gets easier!!! My hubby went shopping with me last night and as he put junk into the basket I removed it and was trying to teach him how to read labels...he said, "you are worst than a reformed smoker" I am taking that as a compliment!!!!! :D

Anna... you did great!! About the ricotta, I know some people who do two a day...but they give up the mozzarella or whatever other cheese they are eating. Don't want to get into a bad habit of eating too much of one thing...especially cheese...backs up the plumbing!!! And could be too much fat! It was discusting hot here too in New England...still 89 during the fireworks at 10:00.

Sil...hope you are doing well!

Susan...studying for the Bar, how intense, that should keep you busy  Love your creation...I do something similar on top of a thick piece of eggplant, imagine it as a pizza crust :D

Karen...have a great vacation!

Den..that crockpot will come in handy with this way of eating, especially in the colder weather. I would prepare a turkey chili or a sirloin beef and veggie stew and let it sit all after noon...YUM! I also make my lentil soup in there don't have to worry about running back and forth to the stove. You are right about the support, we all need it!!

Have a great Day everyone!!!

Goood Morning All you Gorgeous Chicks!

Another triple H day in the city!Well guess it's Beach weather in more ways than one. :D Last night I was supposed to go to a fireworks watching party and decided, not to - there would be an awful lot of wine around there and I decided to stay home in my air conditioned tower and stick to the Beach as I'd already had A glass of wine Friday night and didn't want to push the envelope any further. :D

Starting Day 13, Phase 1, today - actually it's gone by pretty quickly and, once I got past Days 3 and 4 with the headsches, I've felt really good and happy - I think this could become a lifetime woe of me.

Shari - welcome to the Beach! I second Linda's motion - why not start today and you'll be two days ahead when yoou start work on Monday. Sounds like you're already well pepared to get on the Beach! Good Luck!

Linda/NC: Thanks! That Riicotta/SF Jello creation sounds like a relly good idea. My Grandmother used to make a great dessert with Jello and sour cream that she whipped together after the Jello had started to gel - yours sounds like a slight variation on that theme. :D

Meg: How are you doing in NE today? + that's a good point you had about giving up a cheese if I'm having more than a half cup of the ricotta... I hadn't thought of it that way! :D

Sil: BTW, I didn't even THINK about dessert at dinner the other night! Hmmmm, sounds like something's working...

Den: I definetelly am getting a new crock pot - they are so great for careree prep.

Ruth & Suzanne: I'm pretty much in the large type league - sometimes I just have to use the text zoom to read an email on hotmail... but haven't bought a large type book (yet).

Have a great day on the Beach Chicks!!! Looking good!

Blessings + cheers,

Day 4 and still on plan. I was delighted to step on the scale this morning and see 200.5! It's been years (15) since I was below 200 and I am going to yell the house down when I see that 199.5! I get up really early but Harry wants me to wake him up when the magic number appears.

Shari - I'm glad you could join us. Come on in the water is fine.

Den - I use my crockpot in the summer too as it doesn't heat up the kitchen. Harry is making turkey chili in it as I speak - um, write.

Meg - I am just delighted with Harry's support on this plan. He keeps going back to the book a lot and is suggesting lots of the recipes. No more "Not another diet" from him. He's converted.

LindaBC - bought pecans today and will try that spinach, red pepper, brie and pecan salad you posted in LC but will use Laughing Cow lite cheese. It should be good. And I WILL count the pecan halves!

Hey Operadog, is triple H for hot, humid and hazy? We have the same crud up here. Good decision to forego temptation.

 at Susan, Sil, Suzanne and anybody I missed.

I went to town really early this morning and shopped at a big store. I got lf ricotta and can hardly wait to try the desserts. I also experimented with a protein shake this morning: water, egg white, protein powder, cottage cheese and a small pack of Crystal Lite. It tasted pretty good and lasted me until noon when we had "brunch" at the Church during a work party. My pal Doctor Bob made me ultra-lite cream cheese and smoked salmon roll-ups and didn't even offer me a bagel! Good man! He's an endocrinologist and fully supports the good carb theories. I think he and Montignac were drinking buddies or something.

It's way too hot to walk this afternoon but the Girls and I will probably walk over to the camping park this evening and visit some pseudo-relatives. They bought one of Hershey's puppies so that makes us related.

I hope everyone is having a good OP weekend. :grouphug:

Hi Anna and Ruth!

It's blazing HOT, Hazy and HUMID here in New Hampshire!!!!!! Went outside to continue with the landscaping project we have going and couldn't do it!!! It's 92 in the shade. My hubby is still out there with the tractor hauling loam. I keep checking to see if he is still with us!!

The only good thing about the heat is the lack of desire to eat. But then again...my swollen feet are not such a good thing!

Ruth...you are doing so well!!!! I know that feeling of wanting to get under those numbers. Wow! I can't wait!!!!!! You are right about the crock pot in the hot weather too...I have my old faithful "turkey chili" going, such a filling, satifying meal!!! You notice "I" have it going....I don't have a Harry!:( Although...I wouldn't want to be outside like mine is now, so I better shut-up :smug:

Anna...this weather is so none productive...I hate it!! but I guess it beats the rain! We are in for some thunder storms tonight, so I heard. I think I might just pull out my sewing machine and make those curtains I promised my son...keeping busy is my mantra now!!!!

To all the rest of you beautiful beach chicks...have a great day and happy sailing~~~~~~~~~~Meg

HI ALL!!!! We got home LATE last night to a closed up, electricity free house!!!
We slept last night on the couch with the front door open trying to get cool. Electricity finally came back on about 2 hours ago. We had lunch AND dinner at friends' house yesterday, and I still did pretty well!! The meat choices were a bit high fat, and there was sugary sauce on the ribs, but I focused on meat and salad and stayed away from the baked beans and potato salad. No beer either....WAH!!!!!! I am keeping this short because my 2 boys are clamoring for food. Wait until I give them celery and Laughing cow light (snicker) actually, they will eat the cheese and leave the celery most likely!!!

Linda-Let us know how the dessert works frozen, okay?

Glad to hear that the rest of you are doing so well!!!!! Talk to ya tomorrow!!!

Ruth, I'm sure I'll hear your victory yell over the thousands of miles between us.
I froze the ricotta/jello mixture but it got too hard so I nuked it for a few seconds and then whipped it up in the blender. Not bad at all. Sort of like ice cream only thicker.

Hi all,

I wrote a looooooooooooooooooong reply to everyone yesterday and it didn't post. :( I will try to recreate in a bit.

RUTH: CONGRATULATIONS!!! WELCOME BACK TO ONEDERLAND!!!
:bravo:

Den: CONGRATULATIONS TOO :bravo: !!!

:high:

I have good news too. It is Day 7 of SBD and I am down 7 lbs. I know that Den said that people say "Oh it's water weight" but I agree with her that you have to lose that TOO so it counts.

This is a big deal because I am the world's slowest loser. I have been on other plans where others typically lose 5-7 lbs in a week and I don't! Maybe 1 or 2 lbs IF THAT. Usually it takes me a month to lose 7 lbs even if I starve myself.

I didn't believe I could lose 13 in 2 weeks on this because I never can do what is advertised as "typical". I didn't do this necessarily for the BIG weight loss but to be eating healthier and adhering to a definite plan. I have been absolutely OP these past 7 days and have exercised 4 out of the 7. Still, it's a big loss and absolutely unheard of for me. I have to admit to being ASTOUNDED.

I will respond to everyone's posts later. I am still up to my eyeballs in barstudy! Have a good one on the Beach!!!

Day one of Phase 2 here. I'm happy to say that I lost 7 pounds in Phase 1 and think I'll go very slow in adding foods back in. My first and really only plan is to have something other than eggs for breakfast. Phase 1 lunches and dinners are really fine with me if I can add in some fruit.

Hello!!!

Ruth~~~~what can I say...WOW!!!!! You did it, what a feeling!!!

Ramona~~~~what a great first week!

Susie~~~WTG! May I suggest whipping up some frozen strawberries or blueberries or both with the ricotta for breakfast. Very refreshing and filling...and it's NOT eggs!!

Susan~~~great Job!! I agree, who cares whether it's water or not...still weight! Hit those books!!!

Den~~~awesome job...good luck on Phase 2, take it slow...be careful eating bread (whole wheat or grain of course) and fruit on the same day or in the same meal...also... It helps to add some protein, fiber, or something acidic along with your carbs.

Linda~~~Ok, this week is going to work for you, I just know it!!!!

Ali~~~Hello and welcome to our "beach"! Don't worry about the slip, that's what's great about this, it's a way of life, not a "diet", so just pick up again! I LOVE New Found lake!!! We want to buy a summer home up there, but the prices are out of sight!!! We live in southern NH one mile from the MA boarder. We get up to Bristol a couple times during the season.

Hi Babes on the Beach!

I'm sticking to P1, going to the gym in a few minues, and counting down to my Cape time (leaving the 25th).

Yep, we still have the three Hs here as well, relief is due on Wednesday.

I really need to do some food shopping today as I started to run out of SBD friendly items this weekend. So, aside from my time with my friend the cross-trainer/elliptical this morning, I'll be stocking up for the week... also have to get a shipping box for a clock (my grandfather's) I sold on ebay - I'm thrilled that someone in Nantucket bought it b/c I just love it there :D

Gotta go now, but I'll check back in later. Have a great day on the Beach!
