How are we doing, folks? I went back on phase 1 last Sunday and am down 4 pounds. When I eat something I'm not supposed to, it's something that I can have legally in phase 2 so even when I cheat it's not too bad.

Hi Nora
Congratulations on the 4 pounds!!

I gained a pound back this weekend. Got into the sausages. I haven't been tracking at all, and because I was quite active (participated in 2 Dragon Boat races and got a lot of extra walking in), I figured I could eat more than usual. NOT good!

So... I'm going to track everything today...
I AM doing better with my water.

So far:

- 3 coffees w/skim milk
- 2 waters
- 1/2 cup oats cooked w/1 cup skim milk with 1tbsp chopped walnuts plus cinnamon

- 4 waters
- coleslaw w/low fat mayo
- can of solid white tuna in water
- small sprinkle of Stilton

- 4 waters
- chicken salad
- yogurt/fruit thingy with oat/nut topping
- 2 low-fat no-sugar popsicles

- water... water... water... very hot...

Good Morning Ladies

My 2 weeks are up today and I lost 6 pounds since starting SB. If I can maintain a 1 # loss per week I will obtain my FIRST goal weight in 7 weeks (then on to the next goal) ~~~less would be better, though. So, I'm going to stay on Phase 1 for awhile and occassionally have some oatmeal or some fruit like strawberries or cherries (allowed on Phase 2)~~~same as you, Nora.

Nora~~Congrats on the 4 pound loss.

Ellis~~Maybe the sausage had alot of sodium and you are just retaining some water. I also have to make extra efforts to drink my water but I've gotten better at it, especially with the warm weather.

Suzzane~~ How are you feeling so far?

Good Morning all.

Went to the grocery yesterday to stock up on things we needed to get started. What a strange feeling to skip the bread, cracker, cerela, pasta, dairy and wine departments. Maybe I should have made a list but instead I spent a lot of time venturing into unchartered territory and looking for protein sources. Breaking my 3 box a week Wheat Thin habit might be a little tougher than I thought :spin:

Congratulations on the 4 lbs. Nora!

Ellis - Dragon Boat Races sound very fun and hopefully that extra pound will be gone agoin in no time.

Hope you all have a great start to the week!

I'm on day 5 and it gets easier every day!

Nora - Congrats on that loss!

Ellis - I wouldn't worry about the pound, it's probably just water, and could be gone again by morning. If not, well it sounds like you had an exciting time anyway, so who cares about 1 little pound :)

Sil - Congrats on making it through Phase 1 :) I'm counting down my days. I've never wanted a strawberry so bad in my life! And I'm feeling great, thanks! I've noticed a huge difference in such a short time. I can walk on the treadmill again without any heart irregularities, which really surprised me! Yesterday I went for an hour without missing a beat. It makes me look forward to walking again. I guess those Bad carbs really were bad for my heart after all. Sometimes I just don't listen :o

Susie - Good luck with it! You made it through your first day, and you'll be surprised at how easy it gets every day. I also felt as if I was missing something when I left the grocer without any flour or my fat free tortillas (love wraps) or a box of cereal. Still, the new food choices are going to add variety to our diets, and some of the recipes really are good!

Thank you, Sil... I bet you're right about the salt... I forgot about that!
And congratulations on your first two weeks... a six pound loss is GREAT!! :cb:

Nora, I'm sort of doing the same as you, too. I'm not "officially" on Phase Two, but I've added in SOME of the extra carbs. I'm afraid I'll go overboard if I go all the way.

Susie, thanks, and good luck to you! :lucky:
I'm betting you're going to like this diet.

Thanks, Suzanne. :)
Hey, I'm so glad that you're liking this "diet"! It really doesn't feel like one after a while! It's amazing how much more energy you have, too!

Linda... where are you? I hope everything is okay with you. If you're having trouble, come and we'll cheer you on... that's what we're here for. :grouphug:

Ruth... have you bought the darned book yet? :D

Hi ladies!!!

I hope you don't mind me butting in here with a few quick questions.

A friend sent me some info on the SBD because I have been battling cholesterol so much the past year or so and she says this purports to lower cholesterol. A few quick questions for the veterans:

does anyone have high (bad) cholesterol and know if this has had an effect?
did you experience light headed/dopiness as the result of carb withdrawal?
what is the effect on energy once you pass the first week or so?
can you drink protein drinks on this plan? (I have tons of the stuff in my house and would hate to throw it all out)

Thanks for any information!
Susan

Hi Susan!

(goodness... three Sues! :D )

I can't tell you about the cholesterol, but for the first two days of the diet I had a doozy of a headache. I'm a migraine sufferer, but this was something VERY different. Sugar withdrawal, no doubt.
I wasn't light-headed, though. Or any dopier than usual. ;)

I'm on week 3.5, and I have MUCH more energy than I used to! I can see the difference on my pedometer! And I'm sure that losing 9 pounds has made it easier to move, too!

I don't know about the protein drinks. If they're high in carbs/sugar, then forget it!

Have you checked out the diet on Prevention.com? There's a fair bit of info there...

Hey! I bought the book in Brockville today so quit nagging, Ellis!
I also bought four quarts of strawberries on the way home. Maybe I'll read the book really slowly so I don't finish before the strawberry season ends. I could work in the two weeks of Phase 2 before the raspberries start maybe.

Ellis,

In reply to the question on protein drinks, what's a good rule of thumb on something that's too high in sugar? I don't plan to consume any while in phase 1 anyway, but once I get to Phase 2?

I have some protein smoothie mixes that have 15 g protein and 6 g of sugar (that doesn't seem bad to me) as well as some good fiber. I don't want to "undo" any of the good stuff I'm doing in Phase 1, but I also don't want to waste any of my current stock of protein mixes..

Thanks in advance for your advice, everyone!

I haven't been around much, and yes it does mean that I haven't been following the plan!! I am on vacation I live in Dallas, TX and am writing this fro my hotel room in Orange CT, BUT I'm getting all gered up to start over on Phase I as soon as I get back!

Hopeall of you have great results with the plan. What impresses me so much about this plan is that after the first two weeks, it just seems SO healthy.
Good Fats, Good Carbs. Lotsof Good Protein Just limit the stuff that's bad for you. Makes sense to me!

I'm "Lurking Linda" this week, hoping to gain inspiration from all your successes. Meanwhile, I'm not OP at all. I don't know what's the matter with me. Possibly reaction to my uncle's death last week leading up to his funeral today but I can't blame my lack of self control on him. I think sometimes I just rebel against constraints and instead of having just a nibble of something naughty, I go whole hog. :ink: :ink: :ink:
Please don't let me drag the rest of you down though. It's great to hear that some people have true commitment and resolve and I hope some of it rubs off on me. :^:

Gee girls, I've never had a protein drink in my LIFE! I just know that in Phase Two I always check the carb count before I eat. For instance, I bought the lowest carb bread I could find... just looked at the labels. I really don't know about "limits". I can't find any "numbers" in the book. Maybe you should just find an online carb counter and substitute. For instance, if you want a protein drink for breakfast, figure out the carb count for one or two of the "suggested breakfasts" in the book. If it's close in carbs to your drink, then go for it!
On the other hand... what do I know. There must be someone out there more knowledgeable than me...

Skymom, do you mean 6g of carbs? If so, that's REALLY good! I was just looking at an old tin of SLIMFAST in a dark corner of my pantry. One serving is 22g of carbs, which I don't think is really bad either.

Ruth, are the strawberries in?! Gee, I must get out there... I'm making jam for Christmas gifts this year. What kind do you want? :D

Hi Barb and Linda!

Linda, do NOT feel badly... we all have our ups and downs.

hugs to all... :grouphug:

Hi everyone,

Didn't realize there was a thread for SBD, but should of figured. Glad I checked.

I have been on this "way of life" for 6 weeks, just started my 7th. Although I have not had super results (lost 7 pounds) I am feeling well and I have to tell you...stick it out!!! It is worth it! I do not have any cravings, in fact I just added a piece of fruit last week and had another this week. I dreaded having fresh fruit in the house but it hasn't bothered me at all. I am not looking for any snacks and I have a hard time getting in all the food I should.

My husband refuses to give up his eating habits although he is eating what I cook, plus. I have no problem fixing him his potatoes and watching him eat his ice cream every night. It truly is amazing.

I am a pretty good cook and I have a vast array of recipes to keep me happy. Luckily I love my veggies, fish and beans.

I will post some recipes (if you'd like) as soon as I have some time.

In the meantime, hang in there...the cravings, the headaches, and anything else you experience is just your body detoxing. Depending on how bad your diet was before you started this plan, will determine how much you suffer  This will all pass and you will be pleasantly surprised.

DRINK YOUR WATER DURING THIS TIME it helps flush out the toxins.

I am in this for the long haul...I am taking very small baby steps but I think it is the way to go. I have been on every "diet" and none of them worked. Now this is a life altering experience for me that I can live with and I think if I stick it out I will have to show some results.

By the way, I have lost two and a half inches in my waist along with the 7 pounds. The other bonus ... your skin will look so much better, take note of your face and them compare it in two to three weeks...skin much smoother and glowy.

I will catch you all later...Have a great SBD day!!!!

Suzanne, if this is too much for this thread...I apologize!!

Warm Scallop Salad

Arrange 2 cups mesclun mix (or any salad greens) I like baby spinach too with this. And 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms on a serving plate.

Season 6 oz. scallops with salt and pepper. Quickly sear in non stick pan coated with nonstick spray. Cool slightly. In small bowl, whisk 2 tsp. olive oil, 1 tsp. balsamic vinegar, 1/4 tsp. Dijon mustard, and a pinch of sugar (I use splenda). Top salad mixture with scallops. Drizzle with vinaigrette dressing. Finish with a grind of fresh black pepper

This is yummy~~~~~Enjoy

Turkey Chili

10 ounces extra lean ground turkey breast
1 medium onion, diced
2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
2 medium zucchini, diced
2 medium yellow squash, diced
1 (15 ounce) can any legal beans, rinsed and drained
2 (15 ounce) fat-free, reduced-sodium beef broth
4 celery stalks diced
2 green bell peppers, diced
1 (1+1/4) ounce package dry chili seasoning (or make own)

Spray large nonstick skillet with pam (or other veg spray) spray and set over medium high heat. Add the turkey and onion and saute until browned, about 5 minutes.

Transfer the browned turkey and onion mixture to a large soup pot and add the tomatoes, zucchini, squash, beans broth, celery, bell peppers and chili seasoning. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Continue to simmer until the vegetables are tender, about 30 minutes.makes 2 (1 cup) servings 2 points per serving Provides you with a full serving of vegetables

COLESLAW

2 cups loosely packed very thinly sliced green or red cabbage
1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper
2 Tbsp. thinly sliced green onions
2 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
2+1/2 Tbsp. white wine vinegar (I use balsamic)
2 Tbsp. water
1/2 TO 1 packet sweetener (to taste)
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp dried basil (or a few fresh leaves chopped really fine)
1/4 tsp. freshly ground pepper
Dash of garlic powder

Combine first 4 ingredients in a bowl; toss well. Combine vinegar and next 7 ingredients in a small bowl; stir with a whisk until well blended. Pour vinegar mixture over slaw; toss well. Cover and chill at least 2 hours. Toss well before serving. Serve with a slotted spoon.

VEGGIE DIP

1 lb. fat free cottage cheese
1 medium celery stalk diced
1 medium sweet red pepper diced
1 medium green pepper diced
1/4 cup shallot finely chopped
1/8 tsp hot pepper sauce or any other sauce you prefer...i use a sweet one or mild (or to taste)
1/8 tsp black pepper or to taste

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl, mix well. Season to taste and serve. I like to use celery sticks when I make this.

MARINATED VEGETABLE SALAD....servings 4 to 6 depending on how hungry you are!!! lol SO GOOD!!!!

1 head broccoli cut into small florets
1 small head cauliflower, cut into small florets
1 red bell pepper, cut into thin strips
1/2 cup coarsely chopped sun-dried tomatoes
1 can (19 oz) chickpeas, drained (reserve a 1/4 cup of the liquid)
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 garlic cloves, pressed
2 tablespoons chopped fresh oregano
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
1 pound "fresh" mozzarella cubed...I now use low fat! not the same but still good
1/2 head romaine lettuce or baby spinach or whatever you like, cut into bite size pieces...I don't care for iceberg with this, needs a delicate leaf, like above or Boston lettuce or musclin mix.
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil

In a large bowl, combine broccoli, cauliflower, pepper, tomatoes, chickpeas and reserved chickpea liquid. Stir so all vegetables are well coated.

In small bowl, whisk together olive oil, vinegar, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper until well blended. Pour over vegetables and toss well. Cover and let marinate at room temperature for 2 hours, or refrigerate for up to 48 hours, stirring occasionally.

Transfer marinated vegetable to a large serving bowl. Just before serving, stir in cheese, lettuce and basil.

NOTE: the vegetables become more flavorful the longer they soak in the marinade, so if you can, prepare the veggies a day or two in advance and bring to room temperature before adding the lettuce cheese and basil.

TANGY CHICKEN SALAD

1/4 cup white wine vinegar
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
8 cups torn romaine lettuce
12 ounces grilled chicken breasts
2 cups diced tomato
1/4 cup finely chopped smoked turkey (about 1 1/2 ounces)
1/4 cup (1 ounce) low fat blue cheese or feta or whatever cheese you like
Red onion slices

Combine first 5 ingred. in a small bowl; stir well with a whisk. Arrange lettuce and next 3 ingred. Drizzle with dressing and sprinkle with cheese. Garnish with red onion slices if desired. Four servings

GARLICKY TOMATO BASIL VINAIGRETTE

This is a perfect light dressing for fish, chicken or beef...Or just toss it as you would any vinaigrette, with mixed greens.

1/3 cup Garlic Vinegar
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/8 teaspoon salt
dash of black pepper
1/3 cup diced seeded plum tomato
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh basil

Combine the first 6 ingred. in a medium bowl; stir well with a whisk. Add the tomato and basil and stir well. Cover and chill up to 1 week.

GRILLED STEAK & ONION SALAD W/TARRAGON DIJON DRESSING

1 lb. boneless beef sirloin steak
1 large onion, cut in small cubes
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tsp dijon mustard
2tsp fresh tarragon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 head romaine lettuce, bite size pieces
1/2 head green or red leaf lettuce...bite size

Grill steak for 4 to 5 minutes for medium rare, 5 1/2 minutes for medium. Remove steak; season to taste (salt, pepper)

Place onion on grill, season also and grill about 3 minutes or until softened.

Remove and put onions in bowl to cool. When steak is cool enough to handle, slice across the grain into bite size strips and place in bowl with onions.

In small bowl whisk together; olive oil, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, tarragon and salt. Add lettuce and meat and onions...toss well with dressing.

Makes about 4 servings

Den, I'm so glad you've started!! This is where you track your food, okay? :drill: We want to see what you're eating. And so do you! (still holding on to your hair...)

Hi Meg! 7 pounds is GREAT! Good for you! I agree... this IS a way of life. I feel healthier, my skin has cleared up, I no longer have reflux at night, and I'm eating more vegetables than I ever have!
There's a packet of two-bite brownies in the pantry, and it doesn't even INTEREST me! I never thought that would happen. I KNOW how much sugar and chemicals are in that stuff now, and I don't want to eat it. (ummmm, yeah... my kids are still eating it occasionally... I'll work with them later. After I've lost another 40 pounds or so. :D )
Those recipes look yummy... I'm going to pick up some scallops...

Queen of the Scale has weighed again. I have LOST the pound I gained on the weekend PLUS another! So I'm down a total of 11 pounds! tra la la...

Hugs to all... :lucky:

Welcome to all the new ladies on "the beach"!!!!

I've gotta run and will post later today, but I wanted to get back to Susanje : Hi Susan, remember me from BFL threads? About the sugar and protein shake question. I will post this question on the SBD board under "ask the nutritionist". But I believe that it would not be good for Phase 1. The book says that you need to kepk your sugar to <2gms per serving of an item. In looking at Myoplex Lite it is 2gms Sugar and 4gms alcohol sugar. maybe it would be OK on Phase 2, though. I'll let you know what I find out.

Hi there Chicks on the Beach!

I'm on Day 2 of Phase 1. My belated birthday brunch turned out to be at a place that had unlimited champagne and we took them at their word. I had a wonderful omlet and salad though and I know that they were SPD worthy. Anyway, I re-started as of yesterday. so I'm on Day 2.

Also orrdered the book from buy.com (free shipping) - thanks to whoever posted that link.

I'll be checking in with y'all later. Sounds like you're all making major progress!

Hugs,

When I get a minute, I'll cut and paste the recipes into the recipe section. Thanks Meg!

Hi Everyone,

thanks for the replies! right now I use a protein drink for my breakfast that is 24 grams of protein, 3 grams of carbs and those 3 grams are sugar. I can't stomach eggs (just the smell of them makes me ill) so I'd like to continue to use pp for breakfast.

I haven't had sugar in about six months so detoxing from sugar won't be an issue. I have hardly any bread but do have brown rice and baked potatoes as part of my regular eating plan. So I hope that the first 2 weeks will not be so terrible. I'm going to read more and then order the book. Thanks to everyone for sharing with newbies!

Good Morning all and welcome to the new kids on the block - I can say that now that I'm on Day 3 right. lol. Day 2 was a bit tough - with several crises at work, an inspection on our house (to sell it), and a whopper of a headache. I think I had a few too many nuts - but I made it through the day without turning to sugar or carbs and thats a big thing for me. This morning DH did breakfast while I made the lunches - I don't like Canadian Bacon much but I was able to find a few egg pieces in the scramble. He is typically a wonderful and generous cook but when pork products are involved goes a bit overboard.

Suzanne - thanks for the encouragement - knowing that it gets easier is keeping me going today.

Thanks for the recipes Meg.

Sil I was wondering what you think of the SBD site. I'm impressed that they have a nutritionist available to ask questions.

Anna - sounds like you did the best you could under the circumstance of unlimited champagne - good for you and Happy Birthday!

I'm off to seize the day - Terrific Tuesday wishes to you all!

Greetings, fellow SB followers!

I'm a recent convert from the WW plan, where I've lost 25 but got in a maintenance rut. I realized I was eating way too much carbs and sugar and started the SB Diet April 28. Nothing against WW, but I needed a structured plan to wean off simple carbs.

To date, I've lost 13 pounds and am so happy that there's a forum here to share ideas and our successes. I've got 26 pounds to go to reach goal, and wish you all success too. This plan is great--easy to follow with delicious recipes.

If you haven't seen this site yet, it has many low-carb recipes:
http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/cgi-bin/recipe/recipe.cgi

:)

I wonder how many others are former WWers? I am - reached goal three years ago and have been juggling with and extra 10-15 pounds ever since. I have nothing bad to say about WW at all - I just plain got sick of counting points.

MN_chick

I wonder WW will come up with a low carb addition to their Points system -- perhaps a way to calculate carbs in with the calories, fiber and fat?

Nice crowd! Think we have enough for our own forum yet? I think it would also be helpful to have a place for recipes that we can label Phase 1 and Phase 2. There is a great recipe section for Low-Carb, but I'm guessing not all the recipes there will work for SBD, and vice-versa.

I started Day 6 today. Now I SHOULDN'T have done it, but I stepped on the scales this morning. I've lost 6 pounds so far on this diet! Of course it's mostly water, but it will still help me squeeze into a dress I want to wear. It was surprising to me because I didn't think I held that much extra water (never had water weight problems that I noticed)

Btw, I've been eating surimi (fake crabmeat) and discovered last night that it's pretty high in carbs! So it's not a suitable substitute for fish or real crab on SBD. I should have read the label first. It didn't affect my weight, but I was very tired the day after eating it.

Susanje - I've never been an egg eater, either, so it's taking some getting used to. I'm making good omelets, though, so that helps the flavor and texture.

Ruth, half of my freezer is filled with strawberries! I buy frozen berries in bulk for my soy smoothies. The night before I started SBD, I used my vacuum sealer to make small bags of berries, since I know it's going to take a while to eat them now. I've purposely avoided the strawberry stands! We have a lot of strawberry farms around here :dizzy:

Hello to all the rest of you, and welcome to the newbies!!

Thanks for the warm welcomes and all the great recipe ideas!!! So far this seems fairly easy. My only BIG problem is my "schedule" (or LACK thereof!!)
I have been having problems sleeping and then been waking up late which is NOT conducive to getting 3 meals and 3 snacks in. Here it is after noon and I have been sitting here sipping green tea and had nothing to eat yet. I just am not hungry yet. (Somewhat of a miracle in itself!!) I know I have to get on track timewise because when I eat too late it just keeps me up and begins the cycle all over again.

1/2 teaspoon oregano, crumbled
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon hot red pepper flakes...or to taste

SALAD
1/2 pound black-eyed peas, cleaned, rinsed and cooked without salt until tender but firm.

In a bowl, combine all the dressing ingredients. Pour the dressing over the warm cooked peas, which have been placed in a large bowl, and toss the salad gently. Cover the peas, and refrigerate them overnight, tossing them a couple times. 6 servings

GREEK EGGPLANT SALAD

SALAD
1 medium eggplant (about 1 pound)
1 large tomato, peeled, seeded, and chopped
1 green pepper, finely chopped
1 small onion, grated
1 large clove garlic, crushed

DRESSING
1/2 teaspoon salt, if desired
1/4 teapoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil
Minced fresh parsely for garnish

Place the eggplant under the broiler, turning it often, until its skin blackens (ya, ya I know its already black)lol!! Let the eggplant cool, and rub off the skin with a damp paper towel. Chop the eggplant pulp, and transfer it to a medium bowl.

Add the tomato, green pepper, onion and garlic to the eggplant.

In small bowl, combine all the dressing ingredients. Pour the dressing over the eggplant mixture, and combine them thoroughly. Chill the salad well. Serve with sprinkled parsley. 4 servings

MOCK SOUR CREAM Phase 2

3 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup low-fat cottage cheese

In a blender combine the milk and lemon juice. With the blender on low speed, gradually add the cottage cheese. Increase the speed to high, and blend the mixture for about 2 minutes.

Transfer the cream to a container, cover it, and refrigerate it. If the cream becomes too thick, thin it by stirring in a little milk.

YOGURT-TAHINI SAUCE...Phase 2

1 cup PLAIN low-fat yogurt
2 tablespoon tahini (Middle Eastern sesame paste)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 small clove garlic, crushed
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a couple hours. Delicious topping for bean dishes and salads. Makes 1+1/4 cups

BROCCOLI CHINOISE

This can be used as an hors d'oeuvre or salad. Do not use the health food variety of sesame oil, the flavor is quite different.

1 large bunch broccoli
1 tablespoon sesame seeds

DRESSING
2 tablespoons Oriental sesame oil
1/4 cup rice vinegar or white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon reduced sodium soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon splenda
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Red pepper flakes to taste

Cut the flowerets off the broccoli stalks, cut the stems on a slant into slices about 3/8 inch thick, and cut the flowerets into bite sized pieces. Place the broccoli on a steamer rack and steam until it is tender-crisp, about 5 to 7 minutes. Cool the broccoli immediately under cold running water.
In a heavy skillet over medium heat, toast the sesame seeds until golden, shaking pan to avoid burning the seeds. Remove the seeds from the pan and when they are cool, sprinkle them over the broccoli.

Combine the dressing ingredients, and pour the dressing over the broccoli, tossing to mix the salad well.

LENTIL SOUP

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 large or 3 medium onion, chopped (approx 2 cups)
3 carrots, chopped small
3/4 teaspoon marjoram, crumbled
3/4 teaspoon thyme leaves, crumbled
1 28-ounce can tomatoes with their juice, coarsely chopped
7 cups broth (beef, chicken or vegetable)
1+1/2 cups dried lentils, rinsed and picked over for debris
1/2 teaspoon salt, if desired
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, to taste
6 ounces dry white wine (don't think it will kill the diet, but omit if you like)
1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley or 2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes
4 ounces low fat cheddar cheese...since I can't use Romano!!!!

Heat the oil in large saucepan and saute the onions, carrots marjoram, and thyme, stirring the vegetables, for about 5 minutes.
Add the tomatoes, broth and lentils. Bring the soup to a boil, reduce the heat, cover and simmer the soup for about 1 hour or until the lentils are tender.
Add the salt, pepper wine and parsley and simmer the soup for a few more minutes. Serve with cheese sprinkled on top. Makes 8 servings

Thought these recipes would give us that enjoy our beans, a little more variety since I am getting bored with meat and fish.

ENJOY!!!!!! ~~~~~ Meg

Hi Anna and Nancy... welcome!

I'm a former WW. I lost 25 pounds on it several years ago. (fat and fibre plan, which I really liked... got to eat lots of carbs :D )

I tried it again last year, but I couldn't do it. I think it was all the counting nonsense.
I LOVE this diet!!!

Suzanne, it would be GREAT to have our own forum. I can't keep on top of the recipes right now...
And congratulations on the 6 pounds!!

Den darling... you've gotta eat! JUST DO IT!! Otherwise you're going to stuff yourself later... (yeah yeah... you know that... :) )

Meg, thanks again for the recipes... "cleaning out years of garbage"... ... that is just what it feels like! I'm such a "clean eater" now! :D

Hi to everyone!!
:grouphug:

CRUMBS!! I almost forgot to track!

So far:

- 3 coffees w/skim milk
- 3 waters

- salad w/olives, blue cheese, onions, mixed lettuce, olive oil
- chicken
- hummos
- mushrooms
- tomato slice
- sugar peas... uh oh... maybe those are a no-no

Yay! So the big question now is do we put it under Low Carb or under Diet Plans? I'll do what everyone else wants :) Then we can have threads devoted to recipes, questions, etc.

Sil!!!! HI!!!! !!! Good to see you! Thanks for the info on the shakes. You know we BFLers are addicted to our shakes.

Suzanne: I wish I could eat eggs, but just the smell of them makes me ill. I mean, I cannot even go near them yet alone gag them down.

The only concern I have so far about becoming a chick on the beach (and I haven't gotten the book yet so it could be a dopey concern) is that I don't have anything to eat in the morning.

I have to think on this. :)

Special thanks to Suzanne and Ruth for creating our own "private beach" , where we can lose weight together.

I can't believe all the new members that have joined here, it's great.

Meg~thanks for the recipies.

For today: (Phase 1.5)
B~1 vegi quiche
1 string cheese (had to run out early for appts)

S~string cheese (in the car)
and then some celery with hummus when I got home.

L~lg bowl of roasted veggies

D~Sirloin burger patty and cauliflower/spinach "mashed potatoes" topped with cheese.

I wasn't really very hungry today. There are berries, grapes and cherries in the fridge and I only had 5 cherries. One month ago I would have eaten them all, but now I don't have a great desire for anything sweet.
I lost another pound today and some of my clothes are fitting much better now.

Now on to read the other threads on the beach~~~

Susanje, there are many foods you can have on SBD that don't include eggs. Remember, the menus given in the book are only guidelines. If there's something you simply can't stand, you certainly don't have to force yourself. Have you ever had Canadian bacon? (we actually call it back bacon in Canada..go figure that) Cut yourself a few slices of it and saute them quickly in a non-stick pan. At the same time, saute a few mushroom slices and some green onions. Then, take some low fat cheese and slice it over the bacon, cover and let it melt. There are many variations on this recipe using different veggies with the bacon. Other people who just can't face eggs in the morning, eat meat left over from the previous night's dinner. There's no law saying you can't have sliced chicken, lean beef or even lake trout for breakfast. In the Low Carb site somewhere, there is a list of breakfast alternatives for Atkins dieters and surely some of them could be adapted to SBD.
You could even use your ricotta cheese snack for breakfast. Do you have any objections to eggs used in cheesecakes? I have a recipe using ricotta cheese blended with eggs, flavored with lemon juice and vanilla and baked in tart pans. Pop them in the freezer and use them for breakfast or a take along snack.
Modern day breakfast foods are an invention of the 20th century. People generally ate whatever was available for any meal in the old days. Somehow, we have become fixated on toast, cereal, eggs, orange juice, pancakes, etc as the ONLY breakfast foods but that's not the case. Free your mind from that trap and explore other possibilities. Good luck.

This is great Suzanne .... Thanks, now I feel special :o

2Bfit...you are welcome...as I said I love to cook and I love to share!!!

Susanje... Linda is right, no rule says you have to eat breakfast food for breakfast...heck, I eat lentil soup when I have the time. Try the veggies like Linda said with cheese and do the Ricotta, so many ways to fix that up. Here is another quick fix for those of us on the run...the night before roll up a piece of turkey breast or roast beef with a slice of low fat cheese you can even roll it in lettuce if you like. Please don't let the breakfast thing stop you. Good Luck!

Have a Great "Beach" day tomorrow!!!!~~~~~~Meg

Good morrning Chicks on the Beach!

I'm on day 3 and woke up with a wee headache so guess I'm in detoxing decarbing mode.

Had a great lunch  (with my special guy) of sashimi and salad yesterday with some low sodium soy (just a wee bit) and wasabi. Anyone know if that's allowed on Phase 1? I'm waiting for the book - the free shipping meant they send it by media mail but it's on i's way to me anyway and that's whaat counts.

I'm psyched about this new forum - THANKS, Suzanne!

There's a Pilates mat class a the gym this morning at 7 - I'm taking it after I do the cross trainer for 40-min or so. When I thought about it this morning my evil twin was nattering at me to sleep in b/c I had a headache and just skip the gym but I wrassled her into submission (so far so good!).

Ok gotta get going - I'll check in again with you chickies later. SBD chicks ROCK!

Good Morning Beach Babes ~~~

What a wonderful day on the beach  day 16 (Phase 1.5) and I still feel great. There are so many positive and encouraging ladies here, yet you don't feel lost in the crowd.

Someone asked about the SBD website and how I liked it~ It was very helpful in the begining because I didn't have the book yet and I wanted to start right away. The site is brand new so they are slowly adding new things.
It is helpful in that you can print out the recipies, menus and shopping lists .
I do feel that for the money that they charge, I can do just as well with my old favorites, like 3FC's and Fitday. With those two sites I can talk to my friends (that'd be you :D ) and track my progress (weight, food, exercise, journal, etc) at Fitday. There is also free info at Prevention.com. So, after the first 6 weeks, I will stop the SBD site.

I'm not exactly sure what I'll be eating today but it will include an eggbeaters omellet w/ veggies for breakfast and a wonderful tuna steak that I bought last night and will marinate and grill for dinner.

Thanks for all of your support :grouphug:

I was going to mention the prevention website and I see that you already did 2BFIT1, there is a recipe thread for phase 1 and phase 2 over there that is awesome, things I've never seen on other low carb diet plans.
This looks like a fun way to lose those last 50 lbs that are hanging around me. Good luck every one!!

Good morning everyone! I have been reading a little about the SBD for the last week. I was just wondering how long some of you have been using this plan and what kind of results you are getting. Linda, Thanks for the cheese cake recipe and ideas for breakfast.

Yes, I know we should think outside the box, but I simply get crazed about first thing in the morning since I have such a queasy stomach. Hubby definitely adheres to the nonbreakfast foods for breakfast (it is not unheard of for him to have pizza or lasagna for breakfast, he IS Italian!!). He says his stomach has no idea what time it is!!!

I think mine does! But I think that the cheese cake thing would go over really big any time of the day! Thanks!!!

Good morning Ladies - Beuatuiful day on the beach here in Seattle. My office has a great view of the Puget Sound and on days like today I can almost imagine that the water is warm.

I would love to get the full recipe for the cheesecake Linda. Is it posted somewhere and I'm missing it? I also need to vary breakfast but for a different reason. I really like eggs and don't want to get sick of them.

Slight slip last night with a glass of red wine. What's a gal to do when BIL that lives in Italy shows up with a fabu bottle right after we signed the papers finalizing sale of our house? My answer was skip dessert, thoroughly enjoy one glass and switch to water.

Hi all!!! Day 4 starting...slipped with the pistachios last night. I can see I am going to have to watch it with those. My house is SO hot that I skipped the eggs and had my ricotta dessert for breakfast. Mixed vanilla extract, cocoa powder and cinnamon in and had it with a cup of coffee. Voila, TIRAMISU!!! (PRETEND!!)

Linda-YES!! Would you post the recipe? (Or tell us where it is posted?) Cheesecake would sure take away those occasional feelings of self-pity!!!

Bootwoman-I just started too. I THINK this will be easier to stick to in the long run for me. With Atkins I LOVED it to start, but even the vegetables were too limited for me!!! (Also, I got REALLY sick of the heavy fats after a while!!!)

Operadog-I have a headache this morning too. A cup of coffee (2!) helped. I am trying to cut back a bit on the caffeine too, and I think that is most of MY headache!!!

Suzzane-Glad you mentioned the faux crab. I had bought 2 packs of fake lobster and read the ingredients after your post. They have sugar AND cornstarch in them!!! Oh well, the kids are getting "lobster salad" for lunch!!!

Ellis-You were right sweetie! Pistachio overload late at night!!! I got up (late!) and had breakfast right after the first cup of coffee. (Couldn't move until I had it!!!)

No matter... we will do better today. :drill: Won't we!

Bootwoman, we're having great success with this diet! I'll have been on it for 4 weeks tomorrow. I've lost 11 pounds so far, and I'm THRILLED! I still have about 45 to lose, and I feel that I can accomplish that with this plan.

Susie, I would have given in to that wine, too. :)

Welcome to Nikki and Boot Woman~~ I hope you will enjoy the beach as much as I do.

Boot Woman~~~On some of the other boards I have been seeing great results. Of course, everybody is different and we all have a different amount that we need to lose. With that in mind, I am 5' 3" and began SBD on June 9 at 140#. This morning I weigh 133#. For me this is great because it has been so hard to lose these 15-20# especially since I started perimenopause. The true test will be if I still lose weight over the next few weeks or plateau again. I love the allowed foods, and I'm not hungry or crave un-allowed foods like I normally would. I have chosen to mostly stay in Phase 1 for awhile longer. I'll add things very slowly.

Hi there Beachy Chicks,

Well, I made it through the Pilates class... came home and had grilled FF franks for breakfast and a hard boiled egg. Ewwwww, sounds kind of gross but it was good. I'm on Day 3, phase 1, waiting for the book, and weighing myself on Friday.

Susie- I think you were really good with the wine - one glass and on to the water... good for you Chickadee!

Den - coffee DID help with the headache, but I also took an Advil - hope they don't have carbs.

If anyone has the chicken with pistachios recipe, please post it - I think it's for phase 1 but maybe not.

Have a great day my fellow SBD chicks!

Hi all, excuse my schizophrenic posting. I'm studying for the bar exam and my schedule is completely crazy. So I'm up in the middle of the night and sleeping during the day. :dizzy:

I ordered the book and feel ready to go. :)

Two questions:
Is the recipe for pistachio chicken in the book? If not, can someone post it or PM it to me?
What is flax toast (or flax bread)????? Where do you buy it?

I'm eating up the last of carbs and as soon as the book comes, I'm gonna be an SB chicky!!! I'm eating relatively healthy now (very BFL like) but I can give up fruit for 2 weeks and I don't see a big detox for me.

This may or may not be Linda's cheese cake idea...

Lemon Ricotta Creme

Serves 1

Ingredients
1/2 cup part-skim ricotta cheese
1/4 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 package sugar substitute

Instructions
Mix together the ricotta, lemon zest, vanilla extract, and sugar substitute in a dessert bowl. Serve chilled.
--------------------------------------------
Chicken-Pistachio Salad

Serves 4

Ingredients
Salad
1⁄2 cup shelled pistachio nuts, finely ground
1⁄2 + 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1⁄2 teaspoon + 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper
4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1⁄2 cup diced sweet white onion
1 head romaine lettuce

Dressing
1 teaspoon grated sweet white onion
1 large ripe avocado, pitted and peeled
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon water

Instructions
To make the salad: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Mix the nuts in a pie plate with 1⁄2 teaspoon salt and 1⁄2 teaspoon pepper. Press the chicken into the nuts. Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a skillet and cook the coated breasts, 2 minutes per side. Place the breasts in a baking dish and bake for 15 minutes or until a thermometer inserted in the thickest portion registers 160°F and the juices run clear.

Heat the remaining tablespoon of oil in a nonstick skillet over high heat. Add the diced onion, 1⁄4 teaspoon salt, and a pinch of pepper. Cook until the onion is browned.

Line 4 serving plates with lettuce. Slice the chicken breasts and arrange 1 breast on top of the lettuce on each plate. Serve with the dressing.

To make the dressing: Puree the onion, avocado, oil, lime juice, and water in a blender.

I've just started this woe as of Monday. I'm waiting for the book to arrive but I have several magazine articles with the diet basics listed. I've made a few mistakes in food choices because I thought they were "legal" but through reading this forum (especially the food list that Suzanne submitted) I can correct those mistakes. So far so good, I'm not hungry and can resist the sweets that have gotten me to this point.

I just wanted to comment on the SugarBusters diet that several of you have mentioned. I had great success there and found it very easy. You don't food combine, but it is recommended that you eat fruit 1/2 hour or so before your meal because it digests at a different rate than protein/fat. This can cause stomach distress in some people. (I hope I remember that explanation correctly - I don't want to misinform.) You can eat anything that has 3 gr or less of sugar per serving (but I believe the new revised diet allows 5 gr). The idea is to replace the refined carbs with whole grains and unprocessed food and use sugar substitutes (a favorite, though hard to find, is agave nectar) There's a wide variety of food or foods that can substitute for your favorites and be much healthier for you. There is no counting or measuring of anything unless you want to stay within a certain calorie limit or combine it with WW or another plan. If anyone is finding SBD difficult for transition or another reason, you might want to consider trying SugarBusters. Generally speaking, that forum is very friendly and helpful. There are quite few people on the forum so the threads are really long.

The reason I'm not still eating like that is unique to me, probably. Once I do a diet and go off of it for a while, I can't seem to get back on it at all. I had some major life changes happen that got me off that woe and I couldn't get back to it. Even though I know SugarBusters works, I know how to cheat on it and then I set myself up to fail. WW is the same way. I don't know how many times I tried that!

Thanks for all the information so far! I hope I can add in the future.

Hi!
I want that cheesecake recipe too!!(drool)

I did well tonight. We had carry out, and the others had subs and fries. I had a big grilled chicken salad and even picked out the carrot shavings!!! There were leftover fries, which I asked DH to deal with, since they are one of my BIG downfalls. Didn't even feel tempted watching them eat the fries, but I was afraid that throwing them out or packing them up would have been TOO tempting!!!

I need to get sugar free popsicles......I AM TOO HOT!!!!

RICOTTA CHEESECAKE
(I think I got this from the Prevention website)

I cut this recipe in half and used half ricotta and half low fat cottage cheese.

3 lb ricotta cheese
8 eggs
1 cup Splenda
Vanilla to taste
I added some lemon juice and grated peel to mine.
You can use other flavorings like chocolate extract, or almond extract. You could even sprinkle the pan with some finely ground nuts if you like a bit of crunch.

Blend all until smooth in blender or food processor.
Spray muffin cups with Pam and pour in mixture.
I used a pie plate sprayed with Pam.
Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until firm. Turn off oven and leave cheesecake in until it's room temp. Chill. Very nice with a few strawberries.

Linda, that sounds very tastey~I'll try it soon. Thanks.

Another day at the beach and down another pound gone. I now have 5 more pounds to lose in the next 6 weeks to win the bet with my DH. I had asked him if he would give me $100 if I made it, thinking that money might be an incentive for me :D . Of course, if I don't make then I owe him the money. The original bet was to "lose 10 pounds in 11 weeks". Unfortunately I gained 3 pounds in the first few weeks of the bet  . I figured that it was hopeless, until I started SB. So, never give up hope.

Thank you for the cheesecake recipe - I'll try it tonight!

Day 4 (late afternoon) was not good - I just felt terrible headachy and even a bit shakey. I felt like someone trying to get off drugs instead of wheat thins! Anyways - I made a big bowl of gazpacho and a crab louie for dinner and felt a lot better. Today I feel wonderful.

The gazpacho came out well. I used the recipe from the book for the most part but ran two red chille peppers through the garlic press to spice it up a bit. (To do that I cut them in half and roll them up with the meaty side out before sticking them in the press - its a good trick) Lunch today will be the soup with fresh bay shrimp and sliced avocado. Today I will not eat lettuce!

Susan - my empathy on studying for the bar - when is your exam?

Karen - welcome to the Beach. I think you'll like it here but also appreciate the info on Sugar Busters. I am so glad to be out of the WW fold and actively seeking real world information on what makes good nutrition. I feel like I had my head in the sand.

Sil - one more pound toward victory and cash - keep up the great effort and thanks for your always encouraging posts.

I'm thinking about starting the SBD, but I haven't decided for sure. I wanted to check the book out at the library before I made my decision, but it's "unavailable" :)

I was wondering about the legal foods -- where do condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc) fall? Also, are veggie products (like veggie burgers or veggie dogs) allowed?

TIA

From what I understand, veggie burgers or dogs might be allowed, but it would depend on what brand or variety. You would need to read the labels and make sure they don't contain trans or hydrogenated fats, prohibited ingredients, or contain a lot of starches as binders.

I'm glad you asked that, because I had assumed I'd need to eat a lot of meat, which has been difficult for me. The next time I go shopping, I'm going to check veggie burger labels! Maybe we could even come up with a few recipes.

Reduced fat mayonnaise is allowed. Mustard is also allowed. Ketchup would have to be sugar free.

Happy Thursday to you all!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with you. While I was doing SugarBusters, I participated in the discussions and felt very "at home". Eventually, there were so many posters and so many side discussions going on that if I missed day of reading, I felt I could never catch up and I gradually drifted away and then had some life changes come up that totally derailed me from that woe and I could never get going again for more than a few days in a row. It's really nice to be in a smaller group with the opportunity to get to know each other better and maybe even remember names (LOL). The support on these boards (all throughout 3FC) is really remarkable and a blessing to us all.

Today has gone well. I know that I'm not following the plan in that I'm not eating meals and snacks, but just kind of grazing through the day. But the pounds (water weight, I'm sure) are dropping and the hunger and cravings are gone. I need to go to the store and get some stuff so I have a little more variety around.

The recipes you have shared look really good, so I will try some soon. I tried to get into the Prevention site for the recipes that Heidi has been posting there, but all I could get was an error message. Does anyone have her e-mail address so I could e-mail for the word document?

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Karen

Hi Karen, I just tried to get into the SBD forum at Prevention and wasn't able to access it either. They must be having some problems with it. Perhaps try it again in a day or two. They could just be overloaded with visitors as the diet has really been promoted lately in magazines and on tv.

Hi Whimsey and Bev!

Whimsey, my husband has lost 15 pounds in 4 weeks, and needless to say it's all come off of his belly. ;) Darned men!
I've lost 11 pounds, and while I haven't particularly noticed it around my waist, I can see the difference in my upper body. You know that "upper chest/neck thing"?

Bev... there are recipes on some of the other threads if you look around. :) And check out Prevention.com...

Linda-Thanks so much for the recipe!! Can't wait to try it!!. I LOVE cheesecake!!!!!

Did pretty well today, but I hope it gets cooler. I don't much feel like cooking or eating correctly in this heat!!!

Sounds like the rest of you are doing well too...GLAD TO HEAR IT!!!

thanks...Ellis....yes women always lose from the top down, darn it!!! I guess that just may be mean't for the men...:( I would love to get rid of my budda belly!!! One doctor told me nothing but a tummy tuck would get rid of it.:?: I can't wait to try this diet....I wish I had my book NOW!! I ordered from amazon...I should get it in a few days.

Hi Whimsey and Welcome,

Same thing happened to me as did Ellis. I lost 2 inches in my waist...not complaining but the old stomach needs help :D . I also noticed that my bras are fitting better and my face looks thinner and that's with only 10 pounds!!!

From what I have read...it's the men that lose it from their stomachs. I wish I could get my husband to go on it with me Ellis. My hubby eats what I cook for myself plus I make him his potatoes or rice. Then a little later he needs his ice cream, etc... You won't believe this, but he has dropped 4 pounds too. He needs to lose about 20 pounds and to think he'd probably do it in record time if he would just give up the sugar and white flour!

Hope you join us!

Hi Chicks on the Beach!

I'm feeling great on Day 5, Phase 1. This morning I woke up without a headache and feeling really good. Yay!

My book arrived last night even though it was sent by media mail from buy.com and they said it would take 10 days. Now I have NO EXCUSES :D - I've got the info right here.

I'm going to a Hatha Yoga class this morning (second one) so please wish me luck! It's pretty intense but I managed last week so I'm hoping my bod will cooperate even more this time.

Have a great day on the Beach, y'all!

Thanks for all the great info and support.

Blessings + hugs,
ANNA

I've read the book and Harry has read it too. I am going to start on July 2, the day after Canada Day. Canada Day is ice cream day for me - I've been promising myself a pralines 'n cream for over 6 months.

I am also going to substitute soda water and lime for the pre-dinner drink and will not drink wine for Phase 1. This is going to be the hardest part for me - not that I'm a lush but wine with dinner has been part of our lifestyle for over twenty years.

(Hmmmmm - twenty years ago I weighed 160. I wonder if there is a connection. )

Hi Ruth!

I'm on Day 5 without the wine and believe me - if I can do it, so can you! :D

Giving up the wine was probably harder for me than the bread but there's a glass of red wine waiting at the end of the Phase 1 tunnel. :T

Cheers!

Welcome to Bev and Whimsey

Ellis~~~You're doing great :bravo:

Ruth~~~Enjoy that last ice cream with all you've got, girl!

Anna~~I'm glad you got your book so early. Enjoy the yoga class.

Meg~~I wish that my DH would come to the beach with me, too. He could stand to lose a few in the mid-section.

Susie~~Your meal plans sound delicious. I think I'll have shrimp and avocado salad for lunch today. Sounds like a great combo. Thanks.

There are so many beach babes here that it's hard for me to address each one, but I congratulate and thank you all for your motivation, positive attitudes, and support. :grouphug:

Last night I went out for dinner and I hope I didn't blow it too much. We went to The Olive Garden and I had salad, one glass of wine, and a seafood/linguine with lemon-wine sauce. I don't think the sauce was 100% allowable  But I DID NOT EAT the garlic bread that I love to dip in the alfredo sauce. I left that to DH and just sat back and sipped my wine instead. Came home and had Mocha Ricotta w/ FF Cool Whip. I'm gonna stay Phase 1 for the next few days and we'll see what the scale says on Monday's weigh-in .

I was wondering for anyone here- where you a big carb eatter before you started this plan. I have never tryed a low carb diet and I am a big carb eatter. I am alittle scared but I do know I can get out of control with carbs so I had to try something or I will never lose these 35 lbs.

Bev~~~As far as being a carb lover, my craving used to be for popcorn, tortilla chips, potatoes, pasta and fruit.

I'm not a big sweet-eater (ice cream, candy, cookies etc) but if DH buys them and it's in the house, then I will eat it. So, I've told him that if he wants to get it for himself, then it has to be only what he will eat for that day. I do not want any left in the house because it will call my name.

So far, I have not had any real cravings. I thought that popcorn (98% FF) would be my first phase 2 item, but I haven't had any yet.
Try it for 2 weeks, and then decide. Good luck in what ever you choose.

Sure you can join, welcome to the beach :) I'm happy to see this group growing!

It looks like everyone is still doing great! You are all an inspiration, and your tips are really helping!

I've been doing great so far, but today I cheated!! I had a glass of cranberry juice :o Cheating on this diet isn't nearly as fun as cheating on other diets  Surely the juice won't set me back, but I'll not do it again. Today is day 9 for me, so just 5 more to go then I can add something without worrying.

I noticed spaghetti squash in the menu for Phase 2 :) I'm looking forward to that!

Ummmm, Sil? Pasta is definitely a NO-N0, especially on Phase 1. But, I'm a fine one to talk. Today I blew it totally and had six slices of bread. It was multigrain but still bread. Not all at once but over the course of the day.
I just can't seem to stick with Phase 1 and I don't know why. I guess I'm just not in the right frame of mind at the moment, although that shouldn't make a difference. I really need to do this. It's very frustrating.

I made a boo boo today too. I was eating a sugar free Fudge Bar (Healthy Choice), and looked more carefully at the box.....it is filled with milk and has 15 grams carb!!! But it was SO good that I finished it.....I think I am losing weight, but I feel like I am starting to slide a bit (too many pistachios etc.) so I am going to have to tighten up.

Den,

I had to give up on the Pistachio nuts! I think the salt was doing me in!! So I only use the raw slivered almonds in my Ricotta desserts or I toast them and put them in my salad for a treat YUM! Walnuts I use sparingly too in my ricotta.

I find if you use nuts in a recipe you are ok...it's when you start eating them alone you get in trouble. I guess the thing to do is dish them out in advance so they are counted when you want them.

So I see everyone else is doing well...

I went out to dinner tonight and I thought I would treat myself to a grain or wheat roll with my salad. When the waitress brought the bread basket I asked where the dark breads where, (this restaurant always gave you a choice) go figure, they decided to serve only...soft, doughy, HOT, white rolls from now on!!! Well, maybe that was good (for my waist) but I planned for it all day so it was disappointing.

I was sitting there thinking, if SBD catches on, wouldn't it be nice to be able to open a restaurant geared to this way of eating and cooking. Who Knows!!!!!?????? Naww...probably wouldn't work.

Have a great weekend!!

Do you have a recipe for home made ice-cream which would fit in with the SB diet ?
Been experimenting but without success!!

Linda~~~Actually I am in Phase 2 and the linguine is a low-glycemic item. But I admit that it was not wheat pasta. So I feel it wasn't too bad of a cheat.

Vikster~~Welcome to the beach

Meg, Suzanne, Ellis, Anna, Dentrassi, Susie~~~You gals are doing great, keep it going :bravo:

Everybody have a great weekend without too many slips:dizzy:

Hi Ramona!! WELCOME!!

2BFit1-Thanks! This weekend may actually be EASIER since it has cooled down here!! I'll have more energy to cook the right things and to MOVE!!

Meg-YUP! I am a nut fanatic. I tried measuring out 30 into a little bag, but find I eat more when the rest of the family has them. I'm okay with everything else, so I'll need to do what you are doing-JUST use them in recipes!! Too bad about the rolls. When you are planing for a treat and it doesn't work out it is REALLY disappointing! I like the idea of a South Beach oriented restaurant, but you are right! It probably wouldn't be popular enough to succeed!! (Really though, why not? A nice piece of grilled salmon with a side of WW pasta mixed with asparagus and a salad would be a FANTASTIC MEAL! And they could judt give you extra asparagus and cut the pasta for Phase 1!!!)

HI!! To everyone else, and have a fantastic weekend!!!

WOW! This forum is really growing. Nice to see so many people on the SBD. I've done two weeks of Phase 1 twice now but as soon as I start adding back carbs I get ferocious carb cravings that I just can't resist. It's frustrating but I guess I'm gonna have to stay on Phase 1 forever.
