Debelli 06-16-2003, 08:11 AM GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!
Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our
MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, there's 2 of them to read today:
http://members.aol.com/debelli/monday_morning_thought.jpg
KEEP GOING
When you've achieved success, keep going. The worst thing you can do with an accomplishment is to let it stop you. When you've experienced failure, keep going. You've learned what doesn't work and that is a valuable part of discovering what does work. When you feel discouraged and disappointed, keep going. Your persistent efforts and your actions will greatly boost your confidence. When you feel like you're on top of the world, keep going. Make use of what you've achieved to create even more value for your world.
When you can't decide what to do, pick one of the alternatives and keep going. By taking action, you'll know soon enough whether or not you're headed in the right direction.
Every day life is injected with a fresh dose of wonder and opportunity. The way to experience the best of it is to face confidently ahead and keep going.
-- Ralph Marston
*******************
LOOK FORWARD
When there's something positive you're looking forward to, it's difficult for anything to get you down. Think, for example, how great you can feel on the day before an eagerly awaited vacation trip.
When you see yourself moving toward something desirable, the difficulties along the way become much easier to bear. When there is something to which you can eagerly look forward, you will indeed move quickly forward.
Positive, meaningful goals are powerful in one sense because they provide a clearly defined direction to follow. Yet they're also powerful because they provide a bright, shining light at the end of a tunnel that can often be dark and forbidding.
What are you looking forward to right now? Is there something compelling and delightful that is pulling you ahead?
It takes no money or other resources to create a meaningful, compelling dream, whether it covers a day or a lifetime. Find something you can truly look forward to, and let it keep you moving.

SB since 3/22/00
Reached goal 6/10/01
Zanne 06-16-2003, 08:32 AM I'm just popping in again. I think it helps to keep me accountable to at least come here and touch base.
As usual, DEB has posted GREAT MM pieces. I like the "Keep Going" one because that's how I feel right now. I've done my exercise program for 2 weeks now (after restarting). I missed yesterday, but in my mind, even before coming here, I knew I had to "Keep Going". Just because I stumbled a little is no reason to give up. In fact, I plan on doing 2 workouts today. I know I've thought about doing that before, but I know my schedule today and it will be attainable.
I''m keeping track of my workouts on a calander page and it's great to see ALL those days marked--It makes me feel good that I've accomplished something. I guess that takes me to DEB's second MM: "Look Forward". That good feeling I have makes me want to "Look Forward" to the healthier me.
Eating has been pretty good. I had my biggest lapse on Saturday. We were at a pool party and I brought a cake for the 5 people there that will be/have celebrating their 40th this year. I had 2 small pieces. There were bowls of chips and dip, salsa and chips, but they didn't tempt me too much. I did have a few, but I mostly kept to the fruit and veggie platters. I had a good dinner too--a bit of steak, a bit of salmon, some lettuce salad and some bean salad. I did have 2 drinks tho, but I only do that every once in a while.
WELCOME--to all the new people on board. There seems to be quite a few. This is a GREAT place to come, such wonderful people here to help you out. Even if you can only pop in once in a while (like me!) or come several times a day.
I remember seeing a little while back that SEF hadn't been on board in a while and that she had had a fall. Has anyone been able to get in touch with her? Did I miss something?
I gotta go. Just remember "LOOK FORWARD"! Don't worry about the slip ups that have happened. They are behind you. Look ahead at how well you are going to do.
Bye for now!
onmyweigh 06-16-2003, 09:24 AM Does anyone eat nuts? How much do you eat? I wonder if they are hindering my weight loss. Any ideas on something else easy to grab and munch on? Don't say veggies. I have them coming out of my ears!!!
Thanks
Talitha 06-16-2003, 10:06 AM I feel discustiong. I ate like a pig the whole time I was camping. Everything was pretty legal, until yesterday. I dug into a mondo size piece of German Chocolate Cake. I felt sick all day from it!!. I'm so disappointed in myself!!!
But today is a new day. I am going to try to post everything I eat all week, just to keep my behind in gear. I'm really afraid of WIW!!!!
Gotta get going. I'm going to walk with Selah.
Talitha 06-16-2003, 10:07 AM And I still can't type...........
charlies angel 06-16-2003, 11:29 AM Wondering...if you take the majority of the no-carb teachings from Atkins and incorporate an ongoing weight loss or a maintenance from Sugar Busters will that work?
I'm looking for a plan that will help me keep off the 10 pounds I want to lose. I think I'm going to go ahead and stick with Atkins for the initial loss, but I'd sure like to be able to have a little pasta sometime and NOT feel like I just blew all my efforts.
Have any of you heard about the South Beach Diet? I am wondering if that's the mix of the two (I have the SB book and Sugar Busters should be at my house any day now). The principal there is the good carb vs. bad carb and they have a glycemic index, which I thought I heard something about with Sugar Busters.
I know I'll probably understand a lot more once I get the book, but I just have tons of questions NOW and have no patience. : )
Does Sugar Busters allow any red wine drinking?
GatorGal 06-16-2003, 11:42 AM Good Monday morning all you losers. :) Hope th week is good to you and that you lose at least 2 pounds in the next 7 days.
I got my walking in already. Yea for me! I did 3 miles and was finished by 9, so that meant I was out the door by 8. Any later than that and it is too hot. Breakfast this morning was 2 glasses of herbal tea, 5 oz. organic hamburger patty with a bit of cheddar cheese melted on top, green beans with almonds, 2 slices tomato and a small salad. Weird, huh?
Onmyweigh, nuts are OK as long as you keep it under control. They are calorie dense, so a lot of them will add calories quickly.
I don't know much about the South Beach diet, so can't speak to that.
BOB, that particular screen saver is not on the GatorZone site, but I did see there a count down clock. I tried to get it to download, even though it was not part of their downloads, but it wouldn't.
GatorGal 06-16-2003, 12:38 PM Charlie's--I checked out the South Beach Diet online, and it looked pretty much the same to me, except that SB allows more complex carbs to start. It does not forego all grains the first two weeks. But it certainly uses the GI list.
Jenn in MN 06-16-2003, 01:14 PM HI everyone,
Spent most of the weekend away with DH and the doggie. We did some hiking, some sightseeing, and I ate way too much - well, at least as much as I can eat these days. :)
I'm working on being back OP today, which isn't easy as I left my lunch at home. Grr! I had 5 strawberries blended in 1 cup of skim milk for breakfast. Kind of a smoothie without the ice. It sounded good, but my stomach was complaining. It does that a lot these days.
So far things are going well. I will bite the bullet and hop on the scale this WIW. It's funny, things seem to go in spurts. I feel fine for a few days and able to eat normally, then I am exhausted and my appetite goes to zero. Is that related to the baby developing?
At any rate, I have tuna salad with carrot and celery sticks scheduled for lunch, and an apple for later. Wish me luck! I am very prone to food suggestions (gee, I wonder why?? ) so if someone mentions XXX food, all of a sudden I *need* to have it. I did that with Taco Bell on Friday, and boy did I regret it. Those taco supremes stayed with me until well after dinnertime, and not in a good way! :p
Talk to you all later!

wanttheoldme 06-16-2003, 01:43 PM I hope everyone' s weekend was good. Mine was busy and I think I did rather well. I did not indulge in any illegal foods after my no-no lunch on Friday. Although Sataurday I did have sweet potatoes for lunch and dinner but besides that nothing illegal! I mean wouldn't it be great if we lost just for passing up stuff. Like I think I did rather well yesterday at a bbq. I did not have bread nor dessert. I really only ate some crawfish and sausage and water! Go figure.
Deb: The picture I posted was in December I was about 4 weeks pregnant  We were on a horse and buggy ride in New Orleans through something they call Christmas in the Oaks its in City Park. Yes, I really think my hubby is a cutie too! Well most of my weight is on my bottom! I wear small shirts and size 10 pants, so I really don't balance well. This is bascially the reason for my goal. Which I know exercise will have alot to do with it too :( I will get started today, yes TODAY! (talking myself into it now)
Amhlawyer: Got your message and would love a partner, I sent you a PM!
Well, not to be too personal ladies, Next week is my fertile Time. Wish me luck. I got my dad to put together our crib on Saturday, it is so beautiful. Now I can just sit in the glider and dream. It seems so peaceful in there.
Well here goes potential food log for today:
AM: 1 slice sf bread, 2 eggs and milk
snack: few nuts/water
Lunch: Chicken & beans
Snack: ?
Dinner: Chicken and Green beans perhaps some sweet potatoe/decaf tea
Also, I think everyone will be proud, I hid my scale. Well not actually I know where i put it but i told it out the bathroom into my closet. So I will only weigh once a week, rather than 2 times a day
Okay gals, see ya!:cb:
Solly 06-16-2003, 02:04 PM Good morning ladies.
Well if it wasn't nailed down, I ate it over the weekend. Friday at the picnic the guys were making strawberry dacquiaries (sp). My downfall. So I had a few and more on Saturday night. Then that was the green light to eat anything and everything. I ate anything I had ever missed. Even bought a bag of cheese puffs (family size no snack size) and ate the whole bag in 2 days.
My pants are so tight today. I just keep thinking I deserve to be miserable. THe scale was up 4 lbs. I deserve that too. How bad I was just keeps preying on my mind. I wouldn't even let myself have a snack today.
Exercise will be plentiful this week. I am determined.
Didn't have time to go back and read last weeks posts that I missed since Friday. So I am starting new today.
Zanne, I love seeing how excited you are with your exercising. What a good idea to mark off the days on the calendar.
Talitha, you can walk off that piece of cake by WIW. Don't beat yourself up.
Charlies angle. SB is something you can do for the long haul where Atkins is not. I'm not familiar with South Beach Diet. But this one works great,
Gator, you are doing great getting your walking in. Strange breakfast, but whatever floats your boat.
Jenn, you are fighting hormones. That is hard to do. Weekends are so hard. We need to find a way to get through them.
Tonya, good luck on your fertile time. At least have fun trying.
Probably won't be back today. We are refinancing our house and the closing is at 3:00.
Have a great OP Day.
Jackie
onmyweigh 06-16-2003, 02:07 PM Hi everyone--
Sorry to ask so many questions, but I am a newbie. I do have the newer version of sb, but it doesn't seem to answer my specific questions. I bought Light n Fit Dannon yogurt today. Sugar is NOT listed in the ingredients, but fructose syrup is. Also, there are 10g of sugar in it! Is this okay b/c there is no added sugar or not! I'm soooo confused! Also, how many nuts are okay a day? I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I want to lose 2 lbs a week. THanks--
YellowRose 06-16-2003, 02:50 PM Hello to everyone!
Zanne: Good to see your post…it was inspirational to me at a time that I need encouragement. Thanks
Onmyweigh: I just love nuts and eat whole almonds mostly. I understand that they are very good for you but have high fat and thus calories. Can you weigh out a portion and be happy with the amount? Sometimes I weigh out the first and then go back for more…not good.
Talitha: It sounds like you have already paid for the German Chocolate Cake by not feeling well. Okay, onward and upward from that.
Charlie’s Angel: That is interesting about the South Beach Diet. I will need to investigate it.
Gatorgal: I am for losing 2 pounds in the next 7 days!!!! Actually, I am working at it a bit harder this week and I hope I am rewarded by a loss. It seems since the operation, my body is trying to hold on or increase it’s weight. I will win, however! Thanks for looking up information about the South Beach Diet that Charlie’s Angel mentioned. Do you think it is anything like Suzanne Somer’s book?
Jenn: Hi. The weekend sounded like you had fun with the hiking and sightseeing. Maybe it offset the eating.
Bob: I would love to share some of this rain. It is keeping me out of my garden but the weeds seem to be very happy about it. When you finally get to pass this way, you will see the beautiful results of all this rain.
Debbie: If you don’t want to make the Apricot Preserves…maybe I can entice you to trade some for avocados….HA!
Jack-K: WOW! When you go off program, you really go off program. Now that that is over, it sounds like you are ready to right the wrongs and I bet you very quickly take that four pounds off. You deserve nice things to happen.
onmyweigh 06-16-2003, 02:51 PM Charlies Angel--
This is sooo weird. I just got back from the food store where I picked up the latest Prevention Guide Weight Loss Magazine. It is all abt the South Beach diet. It gives you menus and recipes. I haven't a chance to look through it thoroughly yet, but from glancing at it, it looks similar to sb. You can find it at checkout in the food store(mine was Safeway.) It costs $3.79. Good luck!
amhlawyer 06-16-2003, 03:02 PM Hi, all. My hubby is out of town for 8 days and I'm "surviving" with the twins on my own. I had a job interview this morning and it's a job I'd REALLY like to have. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Onmyweigh - no, that yogurt is NOT okay. Fructose, sucrose, sugar - they're all the same. Bad bad bad! I know, it sucks, doesn't it?
Charlie's - I haven't read south beach, but sugar busters and Atkins differ like this (at least, this is my personal assessment) You give up fatty, calorie- rich proteins in exchange for 2 servings of whole wheat (aka, low-glycemic) bread/pasta/rice and low-glycemic fruits. While you can go gangbusters with hot dogs and cheese and pork rinds on Atkins, you cannot necisarily do so on Sugar busters. This is what I've figured is the difference. I was on Atkins for almost 8 weeks and couldn't take the food anymore - much less the thought of that way of eating for the rest of my life.
Jackie - hey, when you fall off the wagon, you sure go in style, eh?
Tonya, nice to have a diet buddy!
Talitha - every day is a new day. German chocolate cake... hope you got it out of your system!
Zanne, I think I need to take a hint from you and see my work outs on a piece of paper. Perhaps that might help me get my butt in gear!
Jenn - are you pregnant? How far along?
Gator - nothing like seeing someone motivated so early on a Monday to make me feel like a slug!
onmyweigh 06-16-2003, 03:19 PM Adrienne--
IT really does suck! I love that yogurt. Other than the stuff fr walmart, does anyone know a "legal" yogurt? Good luck with the twins this week. How old are they? My husband went out of town for 1 month once when my kids were 6months 6 and 9. That was tough! Also, good luck with the job. What kind of law do you do?? I used to settle accident cases with ins companies.
Karen aka on my weigh
cathlaur 06-16-2003, 03:21 PM I had an absolutely wonderful weekend with my chicks. I did not eat well yesterday at our fathers day celebration but I am okay with that. Back to Curves at lunch today and ate really well so far.
I cannot post to everyone as I am heading home for the day.'
Take care
Katie
wanttheoldme 06-16-2003, 03:25 PM Okay I have read the sugar busters book and have seen no restriction to how much cheese, pork rinds, etc we can eat???? It just has it on the list of allowable foods. Now don't get me wrong, I am not eating alot of it barely, but just wanting info for reference. So confusing! I mean I am eating the same thing as atkins but adding more beans and 1 slice of toast daily? Seems like everyone is having their own way of doing this.
Grin + Share it 06-16-2003, 03:48 PM Hi everyone...I had a lovely weekend. My hubby turned 50 and we had a great party for him. I did eat a little bd cake and had a beer. But I extended my treadmill time and refuse to beat myself up!! It is such a victory for me to know with the odd detour this is a food program I can follow for life.
For the new gals... the ole pros here reccomended getting Michiel Montignac's book " Eat yourself slim". It is a wonderful resource and really answers the issues not fully explained in the SB book.
I have a appt with my onocologist tomorrow so shall be off the board for a couple of days. I'm expecting to hear only good news..then I will definitely Grin and Share It!! :dizzy:  Have a great week...Lori
amhlawyer 06-16-2003, 05:07 PM Dang! I lost my response! How did that happen?
Anyway, I was saying that I thought the SB book does, in a way, have you modify calories because it frowns upon fatty cuts of meat, discourages eating skin on chicken, etc. It says you can eat cheese, but it should be reduced fat cheese. If you look in the back of the book it has sample "menus" for different types of people. One is for a woman trying to lose weight, another is for an active woman, one for a man, one for an active man... and the difference is calories. I tried to stick to that 'meal plan' and found I was starving. I don't think SB would like you to eat pork rinds because they're fried and adding fatty (ie: high caloric) foods thwarts the purpose. They frown on fried foods as a whole because of the fats. On Atkins, one day I realized that I ate 200 fat grams! Granted, I only had 12 total carbohydrates, but I'm pretty sure SB wouldn't like that!
I'd sure like to read that book that was mentioned because I really think the SB book lacks in the "whole picture."
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 06-16-2003, 05:27 PM AFTERNOON BUDDYS!!!
Just got back from the Dr....the MRI was inconclusive except that he found a buldging disc on the left side....trouble with that is ....it's the wrong side!!! It's not bothering me, so he won't do anything about that right now...I now have to have a
CT, Myelogram and Nerve Condusive testing....SO all I got from this visit was and order for more testing and a new script for PAIN PILLS  He did put me on a new anti-inflamatory twice a day...the VIOXX raised my blood pressure and I had to stop taking that..BACK TO SQUARE ONE!!!!
I have the SOUTH BEACH BOOK ...it's very easy to read, the Cardiologist that wrote it did so mainly for
the Miami Heart Institute...they use it at the hospital for all patients...it's low fat, low carbs. They do a two week induction like Atkins, then it's basically like SUGAR BUSTERS...
There is a lot of good info in the book, so it you can get your hands on it to read...do so!
I'm proud to announce that throughout my drug stupper, I've lost 15lbs....I'll take it....anyway I can get it!
BOB
Jenn in MN 06-16-2003, 05:39 PM I was under the impression that the Blue Bunny Lite 85 NSA Yogurt was legal because there IS no added sugar, and the good bacteria eats the fruit/milk sugars.
charlies angel 06-16-2003, 05:52 PM So, BIG ORANGE BABE, would you say that if I followed South Beach after the induction phase of Atkins, I would have something close to the same success as doing Sugar Busters after? I want to stick to the induction to get the weight off (only 8.5 more to go!) and then get a hold of something that I can do 'for life' - I don't see Atkins being that.
This is difficult going in and scanning around to read everyone's stuff when you're looking for something specific --- what's the deal with doing this like this versus posting a new thread? A space issue??? I don't get it.
onmyweigh 06-16-2003, 06:03 PM Does anyone in Md. know which food store carries the Blue Bunny Yogurt? I rarely get to Walmart.
Thanks
Pancho 06-16-2003, 06:25 PM Hello everyone:
I went in for my nutritional consult at my new gym today. I thought I was doing so well, but I still have some work to do. I am almost 5'5" and weigh around 130. Sounds great, eh? Well, I still have too much fat and not enough muscle. My body fat is at 29%, and the good range is 24%. I guess I will get there. What do you expect after having a baby 11 months ago. I guess that excuse is getting lame since my little baby will be 1-year old next month. The thing is, everyone tells me that I look toned. Well, I am happy with my efforts so far. I have lost 22 pounds in over 3 months. Not too shabby. I hope to lose a few more and then tone, tone, tone!!!
I hope everyone had a great weekend and fun Father's Day. We spoiled my husband with taking him out to dinner on Saturday and making French Toast on Sunday. I took the girls to a pottery place a few weeks back, and my oldest made a car night light for him, and we took a tile and painted it, and put my youngest daughter's hand and footprint on it. The pieces turned out nice, and daddy liked them.
Charlies - SB is far better off for your health in the long run than Atkins (I feel). I think you could easity lose the 10 pounds you are looking to lose on SB and keep it off. The problem with Atkins is so much fat! With Sugar Busters, it is such a well-rounded program. You can have your whole grains and fruit too. I did Atkins for 2 months and lost about 11 pounds. I have been on SB since the beginning of May and have lost the same amount as I did on Atkins (in less time). When I was on Atkins, I didn't lose when I was working out. I also gained a lot back if I had one food that was not allowed. With SB, I can splurge once in awhile and it doesn't affect me too much. You can have red wine on SB. You can also have pasta if it is whole grain (you can find it at Trader Joe's, Wild Oats, specialty stores like that). I found some at Wild Oats that has the ingredients listed at 100% whole durham wheat & water. I was in such an Atkins frame of mind, that the first time I had pasta, I feared weighing myself the next day. Well, I wasn't up at all, I was the same. I still am seeing losses or maintenance when I eat my whole grain stuff. Good luck.
Tonya - Good luck; hope your efforts (or lack thereof) pay off for you. You will be filling up that nursery before you know it. It is really tough to get out of the Atkins frame of mind, but you really should. It is really tough to incorporate Atkins with SB, because you will probably gain weight or surely not lose if you are allowing yourself 2 starchy carbs a day in addition to all the fat you are eating on Atkins. I will almost guarantee you if you lose the weight that you are looking to lose on Atkins, you will gain it back very quickly if you get pregnant. If you do SB, you can continue doing it while pregant and stay healthy for you and the baby.
Jackie: Our mind sure has a way of helping do us in doesn't it? It was funny reading your post because I have always been the same way. Why not just splurge on one thing and be done with it? Because our mind tells us, "you already screwed up, you better do it BIG." After having my first child over 5 years ago, I did nothing to lose that baby weight because I knew I'd be having another baby. Why lose it just to gain it again? How dumb was that? It took us nearly 4 years to get pregnant again. I was at my daughter's end of the year party for her preschool class, and someone brought in fresh hot chocolate chip cookies. They looked and smelled so good, I had to have one. As I was scarfing it down, I said to myself, "I already blew it...I may as well have a few more." But, I didn't. I reasoned with myself and said one is better than none, and don't eat anymore. I was so proud of myself. But, when we have a day or two like that, we have to put it behind us and move on with a positive attitude that today is a new day, and we're going to do better! I know you will have a better week this week.
Onmyweigh - Blue Bunny Lite 85 yogurt made with Splenda is a good choice. I find it at Albertson's here in Phoenix. I think it is good to set goals, but maybe expecting to see a 2# loss per week may be setting your sights a little high. I don't know how much you have to lose, but sometimes hoping to see a certain number on the scale just tends to discourage us when we don't see it. I wish you all the luck though, and hope that this way of eating makes you feel healthier. It makes me feel so much better!
BOB - So sorry to hear about your doc's visit. It's discouraging when you are unable to find out what the problem is. BUT, congrats on your fabulous weight loss; 15 #'s is a lot of work, and you should be very proud of yourself!
Well, my daughter is about to tear out of her room. Quiet time to her seems to be punishment. I will check in later.
Take care.
wanttheoldme 06-16-2003, 06:29 PM Perhaps I am reading the wrong book? I do not see anything at the end about specials menus, nor do I see anything about low fat cheese, In fact, it says to stay away from low fat foods, due to they raise the sugar content to compensate for the fat. :?: Oh well, We shall see.
onmyweigh 06-16-2003, 06:36 PM Hi Pancho!
You should be so proud of your weight loss. I am soooo jealous. I am 5' 4.5" and weigh 154.4. I want to weigh 130. I wonder if I am eating too much fat and protein. Any tips? Do you mind telling me one day's meal plan? Thanks!
THE BIG ORANGE BABE 06-16-2003, 06:53 PM I thought this might help some of you who have questions!
SOUTH BEACH DIET is DEFINATELY healthier than ATKINS...it promotes lower fat protein and healthy carbs...PLEASE go to the library and check out the book...you won't be sorry!
Learn about the carbohydrate content in foods
The more you know about what carbohydrates are and which foods contain
them,
the better your low carb success will be. Many “healthy” foods you’re
eating
right now may contain high quantities of carbs, such as rice, potatoes,
breads,
cereals, rice cakes, low fat crackers, and soda.
Carbohydrates are ubiquitous! Even foods you wouldn’t think contain
carbohydrates do, such as milk and yogurt. Most people consider count
these
dairy foods as protein sources, and they do contain 7-8 grams of
protein, but
if you look the food label you’ll see they are primarily carbohydrates.

milk contains 13 grams of carbs, 12 of which are sugar. Low fat yogurts
contain
anywhere between 19 –40 grams of carbohydrates.
Even foods such as ketchup, tomato sauce, and salad dressing can
contain a
significant amount of carbs. You don’t have to totally eliminate these
foods
from your diet, just make sure you are counting them as carbohydrates
and
adjust the rest of daily carb intake accordingly.
Learning to read a food label is a must! Don’t just look at the
calories and
fat grams. Look at the carbohydrate grams and the fiber. The less carbs
and the
more fiber the better.
Be sure to read the ingredients as well. Maltodextrin, sucrose,
fructose, and
dextrose are sugars as well. Beware anything that ends in “ose!”
Tip #2: Increase your FAT and PROTEIN consumption to compensate for the
carbohydrates you are removing.
Cutting down on carbs without replacing them with fats and proteins
will
ultimately lead to low carb failure. Eating fat and protein will ensure
that
you’re getting enough calories and will also satisfy your tastebuds.
Choose heart-healthy fats such as olive oil, canola oil, nuts, and
peanut
butter (don’t bother with reduced fat peanut butter – the fat is
replaced with
sugar!). Eat more fish and seafood to increase your consumption of
omega 3
fatty acids. If you can’t stand fish take a fish oil supplement daily.
If you find that you’re too hungry or don’t have enough energy on your
low carb
diet, chances are you’re not eating enough fat. We don’t have to be
afraid of
fat anymore! Eating fat will not make it turn into fat on our
bodies--unless we
couple a high fat diet with a high carb diet. When we limit our carb
intake on
a low carb diet, we become much more efficient at burning dietary fat
and our
own body fat. That’s a promise!
Eat high-quality proteins such as lean meats, chicken, turkey, cottage
cheese,
and eggs (including yolks!). Watch for the sodium content in foods like
bacon,
prepackage lunch meats, and sausage.
Make sure you eat frequently throughout the day. This will keep your
metabolism
revved up and also ensure that you never get ravenously hungry. Aim for
four to
six small meals a day, no more than four hours apart.

onmyweigh 06-16-2003, 07:22 PM Thank you for all for info Bob!!! It is very helpful. I'm on the board so much today. Can you tell I am a "stay at home" mom. That is how I got into this predicament (sp). The kitchen is never far away. Have a great evening!
Tranquil 06-16-2003, 07:24 PM Hi All:
Made this delicious eggplant - sliced the eggplant up, crushed tomatoes, crumbled feta cheese, onion, garlic, kalamat olives, oregano, pepper, and chicken sausage I bought....baked for an hour till eggplant mushy - delicious!!! Shared it with Gram who came over to watch About Schmidt - I loved that movie, so bought it :) Big fall off the wagon on Saturday night! Just in drinks - went out with a friend to St. Augustine, and had such a good time and yet I did not eat anything illegal - I drank it!!!! I suffered with more than the fall off the wagon - my head hurt! Learned a big lesson ;) hahaha Met a lot of interesting people too. Tonight I had leftover eggplant... I have nuts, cashews, on hand for munchies at home, but I do my best to not over do it - just for those weak moments when I have to have something crunchy and salty.....
Got to run, Take care and Have a good OP week!!!

GatorGal 06-16-2003, 07:31 PM YellowRose--I found all the info on the South Beach Diet online by Googling. I typed in "South Beach Diet" and selected what looked like the best option, which was the article in Prevention Magazine. It pretty much explained the whole diet, with sample menus, GI lists, etc. Hope you can find it. If not, let me know and I'll try to find it and send you the URL. The article that onmyweigh mentions, the one in this month's Prevention magazine, is fully covered in the online article.
onmyweigh--I don?t know if anyone answered your yogurt question yet, but forget that flavored yogurt. The fructose is a sugar. The 10 gms is a lot of sugar. Just buy plain, unflavored yogurt and add cut up fresh fruit or unsweetened applesauce, or something fresh.
Lawyer--I agree with your assessment of the difference between Adkins and SB. The new doctor I'm seeing referred me to the SB book, but she also wanted me to forego all grains right now. So I'm doing something between Adkins and SB. Trying to keep the fat fairly low--no pork rinds (ugh), fatty meats, etc. but also no bread or cereal. I did have a nectarine today before lunch, but she wants me to cool it on the fruits too. I'm just trying to keep things in moderation. The no grains, and high protein and veggies that the doctor wants are the reason I had what looks like a weird breakfast.
Want the Old Me--See Lawyer's analysis of the difference between Adkins and SB to find your answer. If you are gonna eat the pork rinds and stuff like that, then don't eat bread, cereal or pastas, and limit the fruit.
I did pretty good following the doctor's orders today. I worked out with weights this afternoon and ate pretty well. Lunch was chicken salad. I was still satisfied from the nectarine snack I had earlier. Tonight I'm having "spaghetti" (Ha Ha--really zucchini julienned and sauteed) topped with clam sauce, and ratatouille. I made the ratatouille about an hour ago and it is good. Tomorrow it will be even better.
BOB, hope they find out what they need to in those tests. They can be an aggrevation if you have all the tests and they are still stumped. Take it easy, girlfriend.
Pancho 06-16-2003, 08:51 PM Onmyweigh - I, too, am a stay-at-home mom of two girls. How many children do you have and what are their ages? I have 2 girls (5 yrs & 11 mos). This is where my weight came from. I was so lazy after having my first since I knew I was gonna get preg. again. I didn't want to put the effort into losing the weight to gain it again. After a miscarriage and failing our attempts at trying to get preg. I finally decided to lose the weight. I got down to 138 and then got pregnant. I only gained 33 pounds during that last pregnancy, but still came out of the pregnancy weighing 152 (very close to where you are). Our stats are very much the same. I am just under 5'5". Everyone was telling me that I looked great (for just having a baby). I wanted to look great without just having a baby, but still put it off until she was nearly 8 months old. I started Atkins on Feb. 24th & got sooooo sick of it by the end of April, and started to investigate "diets." I was so happy to find SB, and know that I will always eat this way now.
Here is a typical menu: I was told by a nutritionalist at the gym today that I should incorporate more protein into my breakfasts.
a.m. - small bowl of strawberries or cantaloupe.
30-40 minutes later - bowl of shredded wheat OR a slice of whole grain toast OR a whole grain blueberry muffin (that I found on the board here).
mid-morning snack - either Blue Bunny Lite 85 yogurt with no-sugar granola OR sugar-free frozen cappuccino OR boiled egg & cheesestick.
Lunch - usually some type of salad with a protein (chicken salad or turkey or grilled chicken) OR half a whole grain pita with sliced turkey, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes.
mid-afternoon snack depends on how many carbs I've had during the day already: May be Triscuits with Lite Laughing Cow cheese OR yogurt OR fruit.
Dinner - I rarely ever eat any starchy carbs for dinner. If I decide to have pasta (whole grain), I make sure that I eat dinner early (5:30 - 6:00). If not, I usually always make some type of meat (chicken, salmon, pork, etc), a salad, and another veggie. I usually make rice or potatoes for the rest of the family as a filler. If I do have pasta, I don't make it the main course, and usually limit myself to only one cup.
I am not a evening or late night snacker, but have occasionally enjoyed a cup of popcorn (not SB legal though), or a Blue Bunny Health Smart (no sugar added) fudgesicle (these are yummy; they are low in calories, have no fat or refined sugars.
I hope that helps some. I will check in sometime tomorrow. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I hope I can help others the way the ladies (& BOB) have helped me out!
Take care.
onmyweigh 06-16-2003, 09:03 PM Hi everyone!
Pancho--I have a 11 yr girl, 9 yr boy and 3yr girl. I have gone up and down with my weight all my adult life. I got very thin after my son was born and then again after my 3yr old. I started w/ww and then used phentermine. I was about 125 lbs. Unfortunately, when Sept 11 occurred, I was so anxious and depressed that I let myself go foodwise, but still went to the gym. Last summer I was 20 lbs lighter. Since about January, I have been training with a trainer and dieting. Nothing was happening so, I also started looking for alternatives. SB seems to make a whole lot of sense to me. The only problem that I have is that I eat too many nuts. I have my 25 yr high school reunion Thanksgiving weekend and really want to have 30 lbs off of me. What kind of exercising are you doing and how often? I really need to see something happen either in my clothes or on my scale. I get discouraged easily. I've been really good so far...
Thanks for posting your menu. It really helped alot. Do you take omega 3 vitamins. What is your secret for getting it off so quickly?
Thanks--
On my weigh
Talitha 06-16-2003, 11:20 PM Hello everyone.
I didn't do so well today. IT's almost TOM, and I"m still in binge mode from the camping trip. Does anyone else ver have a hard time snapping out of it? I mean, I know what to do, I just can't get myself to get back on track. It's like "Help I've fallen and I can't get up!!' Part of it is because I haven't had a chance to go grocery shopping. There was nothing here, so I ate bad while I was babysitting today.
Breakfast
3/4 C Apple Juice ( I have GOT to learn to eat breakfast!!)
Snack
12 peanuts
2 oz. Cheddar cheese
Lunch
1 rottiserie chicken leg & thigh, skinned (breast was already gone)
Diet Caffiene Free coke
Snack
at least 3 handfuls of Fruit and nut trail mix (WAY too much)
1/2 C grape juice
Supper
2 oz turkey polish sausage
1 c. veggie medley
3 Tb. brown rice (I felt sick and didn't finish_
Grazing - mixed in today VERY BAD
3 bites of mac & cheese
2 sips of cherry slushie
several of my brother's nachos
So I told you I was going to post everything. I just feel really gross because I overdid it on the nuts. I did get about 85 oz of water in. I got in the pool to swim some laps, and thunder started before I had even dunked, so I didn't get to exercise today. I'm going to walk first thing with Selah tomorrow.
Jack-k I know how you feel. I am in super binge mode. Seriously!!
Onmyweigh - this may not be what you want, but I buy plain lowfat yogurt (NOT vanilla) and mix in my own all fruit spread. It's really good, and I actually prefer it now, to the really sweet yogurts. You could try it :)
Zanne _ I think I should start writing down my workouts. That's a great idea for motivation! Thanks!!
Grin&ShareIt - I think I might check that book out, too. I need some structure.
Oh, Selah got her first tooth today. Not even 6 months old yet!!!!!
Sweet dreams all.
Ellen 06-16-2003, 11:21 PM Evening! This is going to be short, as I am just too exhausted to write much. Worked this morning...the toe held up ok, but I was sure glad to get my shoes off! I feel like some one beat me today. I ache all over.
Eating has been ok. I did have a few Skittles, but other than that, I was pretty well on program. Now if I can just stop the small nibbles, I will be back OP 100%. Tomorrow, I have a doctor's appointment to get my lab results. I am not looking forward to it. He will probably want to get me on the scale, and the way I feel right now, I just might kick him.
Time to hit the pillow...five am just gets here TOO early! :)
Fillise 06-16-2003, 11:30 PM Hello all! It's me dragging myself in to say a qucik hello!
VBS started today and will go on the rest of the week. I'm the director, so it will be a hactic week for me! Everything went well this morning (though we were late getting started getting everyone registered). Before we left this afternoon we had to build a whale so our kiddies can climb into the belly of the whale like Jonah! (It's real cute--tape a big sheet of plastic to the floor tape one end around a box fan, pleat the other end and tape it to the floor. Turn on the fan and watch your whale inflate! Cut a slit in the top for an opening and presto--you too can go inside the belly of a whale! The whale was working when we left this afternoon. Let's hope he behaves tomorrow!
I'm still feeling kind of puny. The cold is hanging on and really sapping my energy. I had to come home a crash for two hours this afternoon before I could move again. Looking forward to my Nyquil and bed tonight! I'm also dehydrated. I am drinking water like it is going out of style, but my lips and mouth stay dry. I haven't been running a fever, but my body is sure behaving as if I have been running high ones. I've been checking regularly and it got barely over 100 one time on Sat night--other that that is has been perfectly normal.
I see there have been lots of discussion of the South Beach diet. I'd like to look at that more closely since I read the article in prevention. But no time right now.
I hope everyone has a good week! I'll pop in when I can.
Susan
Fillise 06-16-2003, 11:31 PM Monet--When you kick you Dr.--do it with your good foot! ;-)

Arcayne 06-16-2003, 11:48 PM FILLISE:<<Before we left this afternoon we had to build a whale so our kiddies can climb into the belly of the whale like Jonah! Cut a slit in the top for an opening and presto--you too can go inside the belly of a whale! >> My middle sister and I used to make summer "tents" to sleep in this way, with sheets tucked into the handle of a box fan, and then tucked onto the other side of the bed. It was so wonderful... I'm smiling just remembering it.
OMW: I love my nuts too!! I probably eat too many of them, my peanuts in the shell, almonds, cashews and pistachios. I have to have something to nibble on, I also liike cheese and my oranges. Unsweetened applesauce, and macintosh apples when I can get them. I detest most veggies, so salads are out of the question for me. I just figure, I could be eating Doritos, cheese puffs and chocolate, and drinking Coke. At least I'm snacking healthy and I'm hoping that my appetite will start to slack off as I get smaller!!
And,, I tried to watch my exercise DVD. It put me to sleep:) I'll try that again tonight!! Hugs and encouragement to everyone!!
The Quilter 06-17-2003, 12:24 AM Monday Night Quickie!
Hello everyone. Well I've been busier than that popular one-armed paper hanger. Whew! Visiting Mom on the weekend took the majority of the weekend. She is doing lots better Trying to master that walker so she can get about on her own.
I'm well, just too much to do right now. Just getting on here at 11 p.m. on Monday. Taught a class tonight, so still winding down from that. Eating has been pretty good. Felt lousy last Wed so laid off my exercising. Got the stomach blahs and just felt icky. (I think my week three makes me sick every so often.) So I will get back on tomorrow morning and see what damage I've done by not sticking with it. MONET, time to give me heck!!!!!
Hope you all are well. So happy to see that we are already at page 3 before Tuesday arrives. Way to go you all!!!! Keep it up. You all are THE BEST!!!!
I'll try and read and respond later. Have to teach again on Wednesday night. I'll be glad when this week is past and we can move on to another with not so many items on the "to do" list.
Take care. Hugs to all.
Kim
Teensybean 06-17-2003, 02:26 AM Monday night--hello ladies, I have been reading with mixed feelings tonight. I am going to add my two cents, and hope that I don't step on anyones toes.
Re: Atkins (I have never done this WOE, just read the book, I did the Protein Power.)--- To do this right, you need to do a two week induction period. Carbs are to be kept below 20 and no fruits or peanuts during this time. AFTER 2 WEEKS, increase your carbs by 5 grams per every couple of days until you find where you gain weight, DROP back by 5 - 10 grams to where you will continue to lose weight. After induction, berries, and or melon is okay, as is low carb breads. Atkin's even makes one. Atkin's does not really allow you to eat ALL the fat you want. He really does advocate lean meats. But during the first couple of weeks, your carb counts are down so low for detoxing that the fat will probably not hurt you. In the new book ATKINS FOR LIFE he advocates lowering your fat intake, because as you go into maintenance, you will be adding more carbs. This makes sense to me, just as the SB woe does. I think that they are more similar than most realize.
I am very happy with the SB wol. I am still losing weight, when I stalled on PP. But I think alot of the Atkin plan is misunderstood. In one interview he had, he stated if after a few weeks you are still at 20 grams of carbs, then you are not doing the Atkins WOL!
As I said, this is just my two cents, and I am not on here turn anyone from SB---because I honestly believe that this is a wonderful way of eating, and I plan on doing it for life.
Now then, I have heard you people talk about semolina pasta.
Teensybean
I don't eat WW pasta, I do make sure it's 100% semolina which I understand is legal because its actually durum wheat? Someone correct me if I'm wrong K?
I found this in our store, but wanted to double check before buying any. What is durum wheat? And why is it okay? I would love to be a little more creative with some dinners, so if anyone could fill me in here, I would be forever in your debt!!
Enough from me for one night, I hope you all have a great night, and see you tomorrow.
sheanne 06-17-2003, 02:52 AM This is a TERRIBLE picture of me. I just tried to take it in a dark room and it's really grainy and blurry. But... it's me.
Sheanne
wanttheoldme 06-17-2003, 10:31 AM Hope everyone is having a good Tuesday. Yaaaaaaaa, my boss is out Wednesday-Friday!!!! I will be all alone to play! Don't be surprised if you more messages. Well yesterday went well. I am so proud, I did my machine for 35 minutes and did 3 miles burned 360 something calories (which I would question) this machine seems to give out those calories burned ike nothing. My legs are feeling sore, Love that Feeling :strong: As for my eating I did well I think
AM: 2 eggs, 1 SF toast, 2% milk
Snack: about 5 Nuts
Lunch: 2 skinless chicken legs and beans
Snack: about 10 nuts
While cooking snack, 3 tristcuits with 1/2 slice of cheese
Dinner: 2 skinless chicken legs, green beans and sweet potatoe
tiny bit of diet sprite and of course lots of water!
How does this sound? And for the record, I do not eat pork skins. I did buy them when I was on Atkins and had few but they are still in the cabinet. I felt gross buying them :yikes: In fact, I recently tried to give them away. I still have yet to venture out to buy fruit. I am pretty limited on what I like. Strawberries and cantaloupe are about it, I think. :?:
Okay Ladies Have a Wonderful day! Perhaps I will post some more pics while boss is out since I know how to do it now. On day I will take a picture of the nursery (when its done!) It is just beautiful if I may say so myself.
Solly 06-17-2003, 11:00 AM Good Tuesday Morning,
Hope everyone is doing good today. Made it yesterdayh OP. With the exception of 5 pieces of my DD popcorn. Big salad with steak for dinner.
Had a piece of Deb's cheesecake for breakfast and a fruit smoothie. Getting ready to have some celery and pbutter. Have a chef salad for lunch. Meatloaf and veggies for dinner.
onmyweigh, I buy Kroger LITE yogurt. It is sweetened with aspartame (sp) and Wal-Mart carried Blue Bunny that is sweetened with Splenda. You might want to try soy nuts. I love them (salted) and they contain fewer calories than nuts.
Yellow, good to hear from you again. Jump on in that wagon and hold on tight.
Lawyer, good luck on that job interview. Sounds like you will have your hands full for the next week with DH out of town.
Cathlaur, WTG on getting right back on track and into your curves.
Tonya, are you adding fruits and veggies with your beans and toast? Those are so important. Moderation is the key with the cheese and pork rinds.
Grin, good luck with your Dr. visit.
Bob, sorry you didn't get any conclusive results from the MRI. But 15 lbs is awesome. :cb: You ahve been holding out on us.
Pancho, Baby fat after 11 months is great. I still have my baby fat and my "baby" is 20 years old. Yes our minds seem to control over better judgement. I think I was very weak due to the emotional rollacoaster my life has been lately. I'm ready to buckle down and things seem to be back to normal. Congrats on your will power over those cookies. I seem to have tons of willpwoer over sweets, it just the other stuff the calls my name.
Tranquil, you and I have the same problems, love those drinks. And when I drink I want something salty. I can't seem to learn moderation so I think I need deprivation.
Gator sounds like you are getting a handle of this new way of eating. Hope you can keep it interesting enough.
Talitha, I know everyone says this and its easier said than done, but if you don't cheat, then you don't have any problem getting back on track. I didn't cheat for at least my first year and I lost so great. The first little cheats weren't bad and got right back on track, but then they start getting more frequent and bigger. Then it's hard to get back on track. So be prepared always with legal foods, find alternatives for those things you crave.
Monet, glad your toe is feeling better. Get some rest and take it easy.
Fillise, I am impressed you are so creative. That whale sounds so cute. Hope you start feeling better soon. Don't get too worn out and get sicker.
Arcayne, got a laugh aboaut your exercise DVD putting you to sleep. You are supposed to participate. That will keep you awake!
Kim, I was just about to send out an APB for you. Sounds like you are running ragged. Glad you are still eating good through all of it. Take care of yourself.
Teensy, I buy the 100% semolina. Just don't like the ww. Don't really know what duram semonlina is, but I like it.
Sheanne, thanks for the pic. Love to put a face with a name.
Deb, where are you? We are missing you.
Have a great OP day.
Jackie.
Pancho 06-17-2003, 11:42 AM GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!
Today is going to be a semi-quiet relaxing day, for once. I am going to take some (6-7 bags) baby clothing to a consignment store around the corner and see what they would be willing to give me for it. It sure adds up quick to clutter. I also plan to exercise at home while my daughter sleeps this afternoon (probably do a Tae-bo tape). My 5-year old has a tumbling class at 4:45 this evening, and then I am taking my dad out to eat for Father's Day (another meal out, yikes).
onmyweigh (I think I will start using OMW too) - No real secrets here; I'm willing to share with anyone. I am totally motivated and committed to this way of eating/way of life/way of feeling fantastic, etc....My mom just told me yesterday how proud of me she is and how well I am doing. She is surprised that I am going to take my dad to a Mexican restaurant and only order the chicken fajitas. I am totally satisfied without the tortillas. I just add sour cream, guacamole and lettuce and tomato to the chicken stips, onion & peppers and it's yummy! Once you start to see those pounds fall off (and buy some smaller clothes), you know you don't want to see the scale go back up. I was at 129.5 this morning, and that makes me sooooo happy! I workout 3-4 times a week. I do the treadmill for 30 minutes (fast walk, not run), and then I work on the machines. I work my upper body one day and then my lower body the next time. I do take some supplements. I take L-Glutamine (which helps with sweet cravings & also repairs your muscles - best to take at night before bed or after a rigorous workout). I also take L-Carnitine (this is supposed to aid in weight loss) and is a natural enzyme that our body loses as we age. I take fish oil, Co-Q-10, multi-vitamin, & calcium. That's it; that's enough isn't it? Ha Ha! I think you can lose the weight before the reunion; you have 5 months. You just have to stay motivated and driven; you can do that! So, you are about 5-7 years older than I am, and that can affect things too. The older you get the slower the metabolism. I have my 20 year reunion coming up in a few years. But, once I got into my 30's things got tougher. It used to be so easy to get into shape if I fell out for a little while. I guess I was outta shape for too long, and just got older in the process.;) Take care of yourself while you are home with those kids this summer.
Talitha: How cute; Selah got her first tooth. Get ready now...they'll really start coming in. Both of my daughters got their teeth early. My 11-month old has 4 top teeth and 4 bottom teeth and has one of her 1-year molars that has broken through and one trying to come in now. It really changes their looks too. She is so cute; she has all these teeth and very little hair. We call her fuzz-bug since she has just a little fuzz on her head.
Fillise: I hope you got a good night's sleep and are feeling refreshed this morning. I've known so many people to get sick this spring/summer season, and usually that nasty stuff takes a hike during the hotter months. My 11-month old has a red swollen throat with blisters on it right now. The doc said it could take 7-10 days to clear up. I'm sure, as Murphy's Law will have it, my 5-year old will come down with it just as we are leaving on our 2-week vacation.
Well everyone, I will check in later. I am starting to get anxious over this trip we are taking (we will be leaving on the 27th). Like I said before, it will be easy to stay on plan during the driving part of the trip, but once we get to my husband's parents house, I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't want to eat the rich, fattening "illegal" foods. I'll take it one day at a time, and do what feels right then, I guess. I will probably get back on the board around July 11th, saying that I gained 10 pounds that I have to re-lose. That would be a bummer!
Oh well, take care and have a great Tuesday!
ldblond 06-17-2003, 01:12 PM Tomorrow is my surgery, trying to tidy up and get some errands done. I'm at 169 today so down 1lb from last week. Take care all, I'll be back as soon as I'm feeling up to it!
Today's thought is:
There is no failure except in no longer trying.
- Elbert Hubbard
If we fail at something it means we took a risk. If we apply for a job
and get turned down, if we try out for a team and don't make it - these
things tell us we bothered to take a risk. When we were using, we only
risked what we didn't value - our lives. That requires nothing like the
sober courage it takes to risk so-called failure. So now, when we fail at
something, instead of feeling like a failure, a part of us can feel like a
winner for having taken the risk in the first place. Now we can begin to
treat ourselves to the small successes that used to be invisible.
Today let me be gentle with myself and simply be willing to try.

Our Best Days by Sally Coleman , Nancy Hull-Mast copyright
onmyweigh 06-17-2003, 01:14 PM Hi everyone!
Thanks for all your tips. After reading PANCHO's reply to me, I realized that I am aging myself by 5 years. I only have my 20 yr reunion coming up. Gosh--why would I want to make myself older?! This lack of sugar must be affecting my brain. Anyway, I'll post more later--I've got to get my daughter in for a nap!
Thanks!
OMW
jecrites 06-17-2003, 02:48 PM Wow everyone has been so busy!
Hubby gets off call tomorrow thank goodness! Poor guy. Everyone in his shop had to work over the weekend because of the air show, but it was worse for him and the other guy on call. He got called around 2 Sat. morning, I have no clue as to when he got home, and had to be back up at work at 8, then after he got in, he had time to eat and then got called again and was out pretty much the rest of the night. He didn't get called at all on Sunday, and even got the whole night to sleep. They were off yesterday, and he got called once in the morning and then again sometime around midnight. At Barksdale they had it set up where he didn't have to do the call thing, so it's been a year or longer since he's done this mess, that is until we moved to this crappy place. They have 2 people on call at a time, and every ding dang time something goes wrong, both of them have to go work on the problem. Geez, I know different places do things differently, but holy cow, this is the military we're talking about here, and they don't do a whole lot of things different in "their way" of doing things. It just frustrates me to no end!
Eating has been ok, although Sunday I did have too many starches, but other than that, I've done good.
I swear renting a house is about more trouble that it's worth. The house we moved from is a tiny 3 bedroom, 1 bath. We had a $450 deposit, and then $450 for rent every month. We have been out of that dang thing for a month now, and the heiffer that owns it is trying to say that we can't get our deposit back because she's got this "list" of stuff she had to do to it after we left. I want to know just what she had to do to it that didn't need done before we moved in there. I do know that they replaced the carpet after we moved out, but heck that needed done a long time before we even moved into the place. All the bedrooms had that 70's shag carpeting, and that stuff is so hard to vaccuum, plus all of them had stains on them before we moved in there. Then the carpet in the living room and hallway was old as dirt too. The only thing I know we did, was run some cable into the bedroom, which the guy that owns it said we could, and then the girls bunk beds hit the wall and put a very small hole in it. They did mess up 2 blinds that we replaced before moving out. That place was cleaner when we left then it was when we moved in. And I dare her to say anything about the yard or the shed in the back yard. We didn't even touch the shed, and the yard was cleaned up and looked nicer than ever when we left. If you can imagine, the end of November, this place's grass was still green and needed to be mowed, but it was also covered in snow. It just makes me mad for her to say that.
Ok, enough of my complaining, I honestly think some of it is hormones due to TOM being about a week away.
I've got laundry going and a kid in the tub, so I gotta go so I can get her out, she'd be in there all day if I don't. Talk to y'all later.
Jenn
wanttheoldme 06-17-2003, 03:23 PM Okay boss is gone! Whooo Hooo :cb: What do I do know? Perhaps I could start on all this work he left me :?: Anyways, I just came back from lunch, I ate a cobb salad with no carrots and blue cheese dressing and decaf crystal light tea. It was good!
Jack K: to answer your question about by fruit and veggies consumption. I have not really tried to add fruit yet. I am really not much of a fruit eater (although I am quite aware of the importance) and as for veggies the only thing I like is green beans and other no-no veggies) I do love to eat salad and eat quite a bit of it, which normally includes romaine lettuce, red cabbage, etc. If I have to force myself to eat things I do not like this will never last. I have been this way my whole life. So many nights mom and dad sent me to bed because I refused to eat my veggies or anything else for that matter. However, I did say in my earlier post that I will incorporate some fruits ( really only strawberries and cantaloupe) :dizzy:
I do plan to exercise today! We have youth service tonight, so I will have to exercise late. I must, I must. My life is just so busy. I sure wish I could stay home all day perparing "legal Meals" I basically have two -three nights home a week, so time is limited. I do the best I can. I used to get up at 6:00 to exercise, but man that takes tons of motivation.
Okay gals, chat later
GatorGal 06-17-2003, 05:00 PM Been a busy day here. Did my weekly volunteer work and then grocery store stuff. I had a 4 oz. steak for breakfast along with some ratatouille. My DH ate out last night and had the steak left over, so it made a good breakfast. I had veggies and hummus for lunch: tomato slices, green beans, spinach, and celery stuffed with the hummus. I "cheated" and had a few sesame sticks when I was in the Health Food Store. Tonight will be poached chicken breast and roasted veggies.
My DD is down in the dumps because she had lost some weight and then put it all back on. She says she can't fit into any of her clothes. So she is coming over tonight and we will make some plans together so she can get on some sort of track, foodwise.
Gotta go. Dinner needs to be fixed now.
Fillise 06-17-2003, 05:35 PM Thanks everyone for your good wishes. The cold is finally starting to break up and I have a little more energy. VBS was good today--the kids loved the "whale." Three more days to go!
My eating has been really screwed up due to being sick. For a lot of the weekend I didn't feel like eating anything at all, when I did eat, it wasn't good. I, however, lost weight. Go figure. Trying to be better today and get back on a regular schedule.
Gator---I hope the new restrictions are helping you. I sympathize with your DD--I've been there myself!
Wanttheoldme--I know what you mean about getting up early to exercise--never been on for that myself. Sure wish I could though. Have fun while the boss is away!!
Jecrites--sounds like you are having a frustrating week with DH on call and your evil old landlady!:s: Good luck on getting the depoist back!
OMW--Let' not make ourselves any older than we have to be!!!!!
ldblonde--good luck tomorrow--will be thinking about you!
Jackie--You have been trhough an awful lot in the last month. It's no wonder you've gotten off track. It's understandable, but perhaps one of the ways you can regain a sense of normalcy is to get back to your "normal" (meaning good) nutritional habits.
Pancho--Do the best you can while you are away. Can you pick around the starches to eat the meats and veggies?
Teensy--Durum Semolina is a type of wheat. It is made from the hardest part of the wheat kernal and, as such, produces a lower GI. I then to eat WW pasta at home, but if I'm out I donn't worry about it (actually I don't eat past out that much).
Kim--Glad to hear that your DM is on the mend! Try not to wear yourself out!
Arc--That's so cool about the sheets and the fan! I bet it was nice. I'm snacking on peanuts right now--I love nuts.
BOB--sorry to hear that you have more tests--at least you are starting to feel a little relief!
OK got to catch up on some work.
Have a great evening everyone!
Susan
Solly 06-17-2003, 05:39 PM Good afternoon ladies.
This day is almost over. Heading home to first get my walk in (sure hope it doesn't rain on me again) and then fix my dinner. I have a meatloaf almost cooked. No big plans for tonight unless we just run some errands.
Since Deb hasn't been on the board today, I will remind everyone:
CHAT IS TONIGHT AT 9:15 EST. HOPE SOME OF YOU CAN JOIN IN.
Pancho, not only is it harder to lose wt as you get older, you skin loses it elasticity and now all the skin just sags. It has nowhere to go. So do it now while you are young. Sure wish I had done it 10-20 years ago. I guess better late than never.
IDblond, good luck with your surgery. Let us know how it goes.
Jecrites, I think nowadays you can almost always forget about those "deposits". I think they seem to make up things for them to keep them. Don't blame you for being mad. You ought to call and tell her about it.
Tonya, I basically only like starchy veggies. But you don't have to eat things you don't like, but it might surprise you on things you might happen to like. I never ate aspargus until SB. Can't say it is my fav, but I like it. I'd much rather have corn than broccoli, but I eat the broccoli knowing it is good for me. I really don't liek green beans, but I eat them. THe secret is to change your eating habits and get new habits so you don't gain all your wt back. I'm not much on many fruits either, peaches, strawberries, sometimes oranges, grapefruits and maybe an apple. I can eat apples better if I nuke them with cinnamon and splenda. Variety is the key.
Gator, it will be nice for both you and DD to be dieting together. It is nice to have a partner and some support.
Good luck on WIW to everyone.
Have a great evening. Hope to see you at chat.
Jackie.
onmyweigh 06-17-2003, 06:37 PM Bob,
How would I get on the chat tonight?
Thanks!
OMW
Ellen 06-17-2003, 06:47 PM Halllllooooo!!!!
I am back from the doctors... He pronounced my toe cured, and took the bandage off. It barely bothered me today at work! Hooray! Too bad every other joint and muscle in my body is screaming! My lab work was back and not very happy. My thyroid meds are not right, and he had to increase my T3, and reduce my T4. He is a bit frustrated that it is not normalizing like he had hoped. The bad news was that my ANA antibodies were positive, though not at a very high titer. This explains why I am so tired and sore, and possibly why my thyroid is so wacky. Basically, my lupus is flaring. We will keep an eye on it, and see what happens.
I am going to scoot...I want to lay down on the bed, rest and read for a while! I hope to make it back for chat, but since I have to work tomorrow at 6, I may not!
Teensybean 06-17-2003, 08:02 PM Good Afternoon Sugar Buster's!! Beautiful hot day here today. Our garden is growing like the weeds in my flower beds. Have to get at them in the mornings, because it gets too darn hot later to be able to do anything. We have baby tomatoes, and cucumbers!! Have already had some fresh lettuce in my salads, and green onions!! I am just amazed at what a few days of hot weather will do.
Dh took our boat down this morning. We will try to get down sometime this coming week to do some fishing. We fish all summer and then can the fish. It is better and has more flavor than the tuna you buy at the store. This is rainbow trout. Have to get the racks down for the truck. Need them to haul the dogs down, ha ha. (Cattle racks to haul three dogs!!) We have two Bassethounds, and one Shar Pei Chow mix. And I kid you not, they rule the roost around here.
Eating has been good. I can't believe how good I feel now, and how the weight just seems to be melting away again. I do make sure that I exercise 5 days a week, and am trying to get the time down for more of a cardio with the weight training. I try to go from each set to the next as quickly as I can. I am so close to my first goal, that I can actually see getting there finally. 25 months, and 94 pounds later.....hoping for even more tomorrow for WIW. I actually am wearing a large top (love the new stretchy ones) now instead of a 3X. I never thought I would get down past an XL because of my bust, but I have.
I don't have much more time, so will get replies in later. Hope all of you are having a super Tuesday!!
Tranquil 06-17-2003, 08:37 PM Hi All:
Deb was called away to be with her visitor from out of town, and was unable to post... Tonight is chat night. Deb won't be able to make it, but feel free to get on there!!!
If my computer allows me on it, I will be there as well :)
Eating some sugar free pudding I made with skim milk - had a terrible sweet tooth!!!!
Take care all!
Sabrina
heartmom 06-17-2003, 11:52 PM Well, I'm still here but I haven't been a good girl. I had chocolate yesterday and then today I was legal but I had too many starches and WAY,WAY too much sodium enriched foods. I'm already swelling. Not a good sign- so I will be foregoing WIW. Tomorrow, I promise I will do better!!
Talitha 06-17-2003, 11:59 PM Here is my eating for today.
B: 1 c. Uncle Sam's Cereal w/ 1/2 c skim milk, 10 blackberries
S: 3 melba toasts (whole grain) with 2 slices of summer sausage.
3/4 c. skim milk w/ 1 t. NSA choc syrup

sunflower seeds sprinkled on top
S: p-nuts in shells, 1 handful
grapes
D: Tossed Salad
Eggplant/spinach Parmesan (homemade with a little WW flour)

Anybody like to critique?
I've got to get some sleep, but will post more tomorrow.
Goodnight!
Debelli 06-18-2003, 08:37 AM Hey All:wave:
Geez, if I don't get up at the crack of dawn it doesn't seem like I can make it on the computer! I just have a couple minutes now, have to get LAUREN lunch made for camp and then take her-I'm not even able to get in my walking!! I hate not being able to get on here and it's driving me nuts. Thanks to TRANQUIL for posting for me, just wanted to get you all a message that I was still alive, contrary to current myths. ELI's sister is leaving today, so I'll have a little more time, though it doesn't seem to help when the computer is involved-MICHAEL isn't doing anything outside the home at this time BUT be on the computer, need I say more:shrug: I try to get on for 5 minutes and I am asked to vacate the seat. Tonight he's planning on having a bunch of kids over for movie night-hoping MAYBE I can get on then.
Hope WIW is good for you all-me, I'm still on strike with the scale!!!

Solly 06-18-2003, 09:33 AM Good WIW
I am up 1 lb from last week and 2 from my all time low. I deserve it. I'm working on it. Did get my walk in last night and my wt training. So I am 2 for 2.
Sorry I didn't make it to chat. I was exhausted and fell asleep around nine. Woke up at 10 and went to bed, but couldn't fall asleep until after 11:30 RLS was driving my nuts. That really helps when you are tired.
Oh well. Today is another day.
Monet, Glad your toe is better. But get some rest. Don't want that Lupus taking over and wearing you out. Hope they get your throid adjusted soon.
Teensy, it is so exciting to get into regular sizes from the pluses. Congrats on those 94 lbs. That is awesome.
Deb, glad to hear from you. I was getting worried.
Talitha, menu looks good, but good use more protein. Doesn't look like much food.
Have a great day. May be back much later.
Jackie.
GatorGal 06-18-2003, 09:59 AM Monet--What are ANA antibodies? Does that have something to do with your thyroid? Your story shows me that getting the thyroid adjusted is an ongoing process! My new dr. put me on 30 mg Armour 2X a day, so that would be 60 mg day. I was taking 75 mg Synthroid. I have noticed that I don?t have quite the energy that I did, and last night when I went walking my legs felt leaden and achey. But then I have not been taking my other vitamins this week because I'm changing to a liquid and it hasn't come yet. I had to order it.
Jackie and Fillise--My DD and I decided to send an e-mail every day to each other detailing what we have eaten. My DD likes her sweets and eats a lot of Lean Cuisines with their accompanying starches. I've invited her to come over here for dinner several times a week to help her out with her eating. She is so tired when she gets home from work that she takes a nap and then eats any old thing that she finds in her fridge. I ended up loaning her some of my clothes so she has something decent to wear to work. She works in a corporate office and should not be wearing grungy looking stuff, I don't think. So she has 3 or 4 mix and match outfits temporarily, now, to get her back on track.
Had a protein shake for breakfast, but might have a scrambled egg and some veggies for a snack because don't think the shake had enough calories --probably about 100. It was protein powder, unsweetened cranberrry juice, water, stevia and about 6 frozen strawberries. Whipped in a Cuisinart makes it nice and creamy.
I did not walk this morning. I walked last night with DH and DD and was dragging this a.m.
I am enrolling in the local university to take French lessons because I want to get better with that language. I go today to take a French proficiency exam. I wonder if I should review in my textbook before I go.
Have a great day.
BOBatwork 06-18-2003, 10:20 AM MORNING!!!
Well I got my wish! RAIN RAIN RAIN....THUNDER AND LIGHTENING!!!!!! Rain all evening and all night...has started again and it looks like 60% today and 70% tomorrow! YEA!!!!
Forgot to weigh this morning, but as I told Jackie..I've lost 15lbs so far and still continue...If I can do two pounds a week, I'll be happy!
WHAT'S WITH ALL THE SIL VISITS DEB??????
Gotta get back to work....
BOB
wanttheoldme 06-18-2003, 10:27 AM Okay gals things are not looking good. I put the scale away for the week to get some excitment on Wednesday morning, but nope, Up 1 lbs. What is the dilly? I have been good, in fact, I have done 3 miles each day this week. I do have Aunt Flo visiting today, she decided to join me for WIW, could that actually be an issue? Okay I am going to give this a while longer, then perhaps I have go back to weight watchers. I did so well on that. But in the back of my head I keep thinking that Sugar Busters is better for me while pregnant. I am so confused:?:
Why, why, Why.....I will take it as Aunt Flo's fault and move on I guess. Perhaps better luck next week.
Jenn in MN 06-18-2003, 10:51 AM Hi gang,
Busy day today, stuck in meetings. Ugh! I forgot to WI this morning, but that's probably just as well.
Tonya - Aunt Flo will put a pound or two of water weight on usually. Don't sweat it  and give your body another week to adjust. Also remember, when you exercise, your muscles can retain fluid afterwards, so even though the scale doesn't show it, you ARE making progress!
Hi to everyone! Good work to BOB for the loss (sorry for the pain behind it though) and hang in there to Jack-K and those with a gain.
ttfn,
Jenn
wanttheoldme 06-18-2003, 10:53 AM Thank you Jenn....I was almost in tears so discouraged! But I will do what you say, and keep the brighter side....
I could just laugh at myself sometimes, about how silly I am....I remember crying at weight watchers when every week I lost, but one week I gained .5 lol, the lady told me to go home and shave...and I would lose my .5
Pancho 06-18-2003, 12:13 PM Good Wednesday morning all:
I weighed in at 131 this morning. I have been fluctuating between 129-131 lately. I took my dad to dinner last night for Father's Day (Mexican Food). I ordered pork & chicken fajitas without the rice and tortillas. BUT, I ate too much of the legal stuff; I guess I forgot all about portion sizes. It was good though. I had the fajitas with the grilled onions, peppers, tomatoes with some guac & sc and some refried beans.
My baby is just waking up, so I will make this a quick post, but since I usually write a book, that may not be so bad, eh?
Fillise: I wish I could pick around the starches and eat the veggies and meat, but the meat is usually coated with some type of gravy and the veggies have some sort of sauce on them (it's a German thing, I guess). I will do my best and not stress about it; I'd rather enjoy the trip and just not go overboard.
Monet: So glad to hear the toe is better, but sorry to hear about the thyroid/lupus. I sure hope you get to feeling better soon, and that the doctors can find something that truly will help you feel better.
Teensy: Fresh veggies; how wonderful!! It's so nice to know where the food you are eating comes from. My parents grow a few veggies, and I love knowing there are no pesticides/herbicides or anything on them that can hurt me. I wish I was able to grow fresh veggies where I live, but can't. Our climate is so hot, and the animals always seem to find their way to them.
Gator: You mentioned a cuisinart blender. It sounds like you are pleased with it. I have a blender that doesn't seem to mix my stuff creamy. It always comes out with ice chunks in it, and never is real creamy. Would you recommend a cuisinart? They are pretty pricey, aren't they?
Tonya: Ditto everything Jenn said. TOM can add a few pounds and working out adds muscle mass. Don't get discouraged; you'll get there.
Gotta go.
heartmom 06-18-2003, 12:27 PM WIW- Like I said, I'm up today. About a pound and a half. But I know it's just fluid from all the salt I had yesterday so I'm not discouraged. The good news is that as of yesterday, I finally took off the weight I gained from the camping trip. It took forever this time! Usually I would have had it off in 3 days, 4 max. This time it took 8. Anyway, I had eggs and nsa bacon for breakfast. Probably eat a peach and some yogurt for a snack in about an hour or so. Not for sure what I'm going to eat for lunch, but I'm going to try a recipe I found. Can't remember if I got it off the board or somewhere else. Anyway, it's called Busy Day Cheesy Spaghetti. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. My kids are really driving me insane lately. All they want to do is fight. And Boogie has turned into a little terror lately. He can be pretty mean and beat his sister up and bite her. He's 3 and she's 7.
cherylco 06-18-2003, 01:23 PM charlies angel
SB say's if you have any alcohol red wine is the best to drink, 1 to 2 glasses a day is acceptable I believe.
wanttheoldme
I love your idea of losing weight just because we passed on bad foods! I wish!!
BOB
Dang BOB!! Send some of the pound losing drugs this way!!
Teensybean
The durham wheat is a WW flour.
I forget where I read it but the durham wheat has like a 65 GI and the WW pasta is like 45.
I think the durham wheat is processed more, or a finer grain then the stone ground?
I have read so many books I forget where I read things. SB is a great WOE but the book needs to be put together better. It's difficult to find info.
Ok I read more and Fillise said Durum Semolina is a type of wheat. It is made from the hardest part of the wheat kernel and, as such, produces a lower GI. So It's better then white flout pasta but not as good as the WW, but still legal.
Monet
That sucks about your Lupus flaring up. You been overworking yourself?
I have been doing so great sticking to 1 starchy carb a day! I'm down 1 pound this week 202, only 3 pounds to get under that 200 mark Wahoo!
Well last night me and DH went to a Santana concert. He was awesome. I don't even care he was singing stuff in Spanish and I have no idea what he was saying :)
I had no crappy food or alcohol due to me eating before left.
Bad thing was at 1:00 am as we were driving home me and dh were STARVING. We did the MacDonald's drive-thru and had the # 2 ( 2 cheese burgers, French fries and diet coke). I was so hungry it tasted good.
Now I'm off to the gym to walk off the evil micky D's!
jecrites 06-18-2003, 02:14 PM Hello everyone. Not weighing in today. I know it will be up since TOM is on the way. Maybe next week?!
Our new computer desk came in yesterday! I had no clue it was even here until hubby showed me it was on the porch around 5 yesterday evening. I got it put together by 10, and it took another hour to get everything moved from the old one, (not that there was a lot of stuff in it, hubby was on here and wasn't giving it up until he got called out, hehe:lol:
We're going to have chicken for supper tonight; I just have to figure out a way to cook it where everyone will like it. I don't do chicken very often cause I just hate to cook it, plus the kids like legs and they don't come with the skin already peeled off. I can't stand skinning chicken. I'd never make it on food network, I don't really care to get my hands in everything and "play" with it as they say.
I'm trying to figure out when we are going to take the kids to their grandma's house for a couple weeks, but around here it's almost like pulling teeth! Hubby has an inspection at work in July, and just like the onery man he is, he has no idea when the dang thing is. They are supposed to go stay for about 2 weeks, during the week they'll be at his sister's house and on the weekends at his mom's house. He wants to take them on a 3 day weekend and then go back to get them on another 3 day weekend; I. on the other hand, want him to take a couple weeks leave to go get them so I can see my mom too, (she lives in a different town about 2 hours away from his). I guess I'll just have to figure it out on my own and then tell him "this is how it's gonna be or else!"
As for the deposit thing, I haven't heard anything about it yet. Hopefully he'll call the realtor lady again today and see what the owner's "list" is all about.
Well I'm gonna go for now, got some stuff around here to do before I can send the kids off no matter when that happens. I'll talk to y'all later.
Jenn
Fillise 06-18-2003, 02:58 PM Hello all!
Halfway through VBS and worn out! This will be short today as I have to go home and take a nap before continuing with the rest of my day. This cold has really sapped my energy.
Only two more days to go--we are having ablast! But I have to admit, I will be able to relax a bit once VBS is over for another year.
I'm also looking forward to longer chats with my SB sisters! For know know I'm thinking about you an dhoping everyone has a great WIW (mine was pretty good--down 1.5 from yesterday--and only a couple of pounds above my "lenten low."
Susan
wanttheoldme 06-18-2003, 03:09 PM Hey ladies, Hope everyone is doing well on WIW. Congrats the ones who lost... My tummy is aching so bad, Aunt Flo hit me hard this month. I am sitting here at my desk hoping my Advil kicks in soon. :( As for eating, I had the same ole breakfast as normal, still good though, but we are out of milk so I had water. Is there any juice I can buy? Anyway for lunch, I had grilled chicken and a side salad with blue cheese dressing and some diet decaf tea. I am full now, but tummy still aches. For dinner, I plan to eat some tuna salad on Triscuits, wish me luck...I am not a tuna fan, but cannot figure out what else to eat. Last night I ate an half egg sandwich with 3 slices of bacon after youth service. Normally its so late at night when I get home I do fast food, but not this time. Tried to behave :s: I go to the church directly from work, so no time to cook dinner. I would normally snack at the cafe I run, but no legal foods there! I wonder why?:smug: Anyways, boss is out but I still have work. I am going to finish up this last tape and perhaps I then will feel good about playing....
Later Gals!
Pancho 06-18-2003, 07:21 PM Hi there....I have a few questions:
1. I noticed that the reduced fat Triscuits have the EXACT same ingredients as the Regular (what gives?). Is there any reason why we shouldn't be eating the reduced fat? Helps to save that fat wherever we can.
2. I don't have a box of them right here, but aren't regular old boring Cheerios legal? I think they only have 1 gram sugar per serving. Is there something in the ingredients that make them illegal?
Thanks for any info!
amhlawyer 06-18-2003, 08:55 PM Hi all. Is Wednesday "the" official weigh-in day around here? I did weigh myself today (I'm trying to only do it every other day, but I'm a scale-a-holic, I admit it.) I happened to be down one more pound today. I'm at 188 and Feeling good. Just wish it'd come off a tad faster. I worked out yesterday and I'm working out tomorrow so I'm getting into gear here.
Query: "Modified Food Starch" - Isn't this stuff illegal? I saw it in the ingredients of the Kroger Lite yogurt and I thought someone said they eat this? I thought MFS is illegal as it is, well, a starch! Can someone comment on this?
I didn't post yesterday because I got a tad overwhelmed with everything... Atkins? Sugar Busters? Eat yourself slim? South Beach Diet? Oh boy, oh boy. I'm trying to change my eating habits long term and I feel like a hamster on a wheel trying to figure out the "right things" to do.
Pancho - I think Cheerios has added sugar (I'm pretty sure it's an ingredient in there.) The theme is to try not to eat anything with added sugar. NO sugar grams are ideal. IF YOU HAVE TO EAT a product with sugar, less than two is preferable. I guess that would be the Cheerios argument.
heartmom 06-18-2003, 10:32 PM The sugar gram rule- generally it should be 3 or less although the new SB book says 5 and under. I stick with the 3 or less. I do eat things that have sugar in them. For some things it's hard not too. BUT you should look at the grams of sugar and where sugar is listed in the ingridients- is it within the first 3 or is it on down the list? There are things that will list several grams of sugar although they are legal. Milk has around 8 or so a serving. Orange juice has around 26- and of course, it's better to eat the orange instead of the juice. But juice with no added sugars in the ingredients is legal. As for the triscuits, I prefer the reduced fat- they just leave out the oil is all. Yogurt- I eat yogurt almost every day. I like the blue bunny or the off brand(walmart brand). Stick to a serving. But I imagine plain yogurt mixed with fruit or ALL FRUIT or POLANDER'S is better for you. Maybe this clears up some of your questions. It's tricky at first but then it becomes second nature. Oh yea, I almost forgot. I won't be posting the recipe for the cheesy spaghetti, it wasn't that great.
GatorGal 06-18-2003, 10:36 PM Pancho--I have a regular Cuisinart that I?ve had for years. Got it when food processors were all the rage. I like it better than a blender because it mixes more and also grates, slices, etc. If I want to have things cut perfectly, then I use a knife. But for soups and things that don't matter if they are perfect, a food processor is really good, especially when doing a lot. The "texture" of the smoothie or shake is different in a food processor than in a blender. Things definitely get smoother. In fact, it fluffs everything up so there is a lot of air in my protein shakes. They are almost foamy. It's like I?m drinking a big glass of smooth thick flavored foam. If you keep your eyes out, maybe you can find one at a good price at Walmart or similar store.
My DD had dinner with us again. She has a lot of "bad" stuff in her fridge that she doesn't know what to do with. She had a half-gallon of really good ice cream and she hates to throw it out. I told her to take it to her office. She also has a week's worth of Lean Cuisines, so she'll have a few days before getting on track. I hope she finds success.
I did really well on the French exam this afternoon at the University. They gave me two parts. One was all reading and filling in the blanks with the best answer. There were multiple choice answers and I filled in a scantron sheet. They checked it right away, and I made a good enough score to be allowed to take the listening part of the exam. I knew I'd "fail" that part because I never had a language lab--I just studied from a book. In fact, most of it I didn't understand. I'd catch a word or two, and that would be how I'd guess at the right answer. Amazing--I got a high enough score to pass that, too. So I am proficient enough to have 1 year of French under my belt. I can take classes starting at the 2000 level. I hope to sign up this week for the fall semester.
Did well on my eating today. And also got in some unexpected exercise. We got to walk after dinner and did 1.5 miles. Not as much as usual, but enough. I had ratatouille for lunch, along with spinach and steamed shrimp and a little melted butter with lemon. It was good.
Dinner was baked chicken, collard greens, and a tomato and lettuce salad for a first course. I normally buy a baked chicken at Costco or Sams, but they now sell organic, hormone free chickens at Publix, so I bought one because of the better health issue. It was good and moist and tender.
Well, I didn't weigh today. Maybe I'll weigh next Monday. I try to only weigh one day a week and Monday has normally been my day.
Ellen 06-18-2003, 11:03 PM Greetings everyone! Its been a busy day! I am rather tired, but wanted to post before I hit the pillow. I forgot to weigh this morning, and when I did step on the scale, I was up two pounds from my low. This is not bad, considering it was after lunch, and I usually weigh in the morning, nekkid! :) Eating has been ok..not stellar. I had a couple items of whole wheat, but not 100%, bread the last two days. I have not gotten into cake, or cookies, or other no nos though....
I feel bad that I have not been able to post replies for a while. Makes me feel out of the loop or something... I am trying to keep up with reading the posts and will try and get in replies tomorrow afternoon.
Friday, I am off, and meeting TALITHA and Selah for lunch! WOo Hoo! Can't wait! We are going to hit Harry's/Whole Foods too.
Its been raining way too much here the last couple days. There was a sink hole on I-85 that was pretty bad! (Right near Jimmy Carter Blvd, Yellow Rose! ) What a mess! I heard there was some flooding in areas, and my back yard sounds rather marshy when you walk across it. The pool is just mere inches from overflowing!
GATOR: ANA antibodies are anti-nuclear antibodies, or antibodies to the nucleus of your own cells. In other words, you develop antibodies to your self. This is what happens in auto immune diseases, like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Scleraderma, MCTD. It is related to the thyroid in that many thyroid problems are actually caused by auto immune problems. I have not had antibodies to my thyroid found, but it plays in. And yes, it is an ongoing process. Any doctor that gives you T4 (read that Synthroid) and gets you into the 'normal' zone and feels like his work is done, is not very knowledgeable about thyroids! Do make sure you share with your doctor how you are feeling, especially if you are feeling more tired. Your dose may be too low. I took 60mg twice a day when I was on Armour. The conversion from Synthroid to Armour is not a set formula, since we are all different. Hopefully, it will not take long for your new doctor to get it right. I am just so glad you have someone who knows what they are doing! Keep me posted! :) My hubby got my new T3 prescription filled today, and was floored...the higher dose is 50% more than the last dose I was on! Since it is a special formulation, it is not covered by our insurance...so it is $60 a month, and worth it, if you ask me!
DEB: Now that school is not in session, you should get just as much computer time as your kids. You don't want to let them be selfish! ;) You must be much nicer than me. If my kids tried to take the computer from me for anything other than school, I would make them wait their turn! Yep, I am a meanie! How far is Miami from Naples? We may be there for a few days the first two weeks of July. If its not far, do we need to drive over to Miami for a day or so?
BOB: We are probably going to be in the Sarasota area sometime around the end of the first week of July, or beginning of the second week. Will you be around then?
TEENSY: I am so excited that you are losing! Jealous too! You deserve the loss...you are doing so great! You will be at goal in no time!
FILLISE: Glad VBS is going well! Glad you are feeling better too! Need anything from Hotlanta? :)
Ok, gotta go to bed.... to all I missed, I am sorry! I just have to get in bed, or I won't make it tomorrow! Know I am appreciative of all the great friends on here, and the wonderful support!
Debelli 06-18-2003, 11:56 PM Hey All:wave:
Thought I could get on the computer tonight-didn't happen:nono: Was busy with MICHAEL and his 9 friends who came over to watch movies-running to get soda then out to get pizza.
THEN my father called me only to tell me that my MOM is in the hospital:fr: Seems she has a good case of pnemonia:fr: I knew she was sick and when she gets sick it usually effects her voice and her lungs, but she gets over it, not this time! So, tomorrow, I'll be keeping her company all day, as my DD has a temp. job to go to tomorrow and my sister and her brood sure can't go there to keep her company (they'd ship my Mom to the physco ward afterwards).
So with that, I don't know when I'll be able to get on here to do a real post and I truly hope you will all understand. I want to get on here in the worst way and it drives me nuts when I can't but it doesn't seem my luck this week is panning out.
Will check in when I can!

sheanne 06-19-2003, 01:32 AM Hi everyone,
I hope everyone is doing ok. I have been so busy lately. One more week of school and then on the 30th I start the summer semester.
I don't know if you all have seen all the news about riots in Benton Harbor, Michigan. But where I live, St Joseph, is the twin city of Benton Harbor (connected). It has been really bad the last two nights. Tonight it has been quiet so far. They think in part because of the weather and also the show of police. I hope that it stays that way.
I weighed on Wednesday and still weigh the same. I am going to stay off of the scale for a while. I think that I do better when I am not concentrating so much on the scale.
I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.
Sheanne
sheanne 06-19-2003, 01:34 AM Debbie didn't see your post. Hope that your Mom gets well soon.

Teensybean 06-19-2003, 02:28 AM Wednesday night-- Evening ladies... hope the scales were good to those of you weighing in. I was down again. So I am at 174 now. HOLY COW, only 4 more to go!! I think I am sweating it all off. It has been pretty warm here and I am still doing most of the yard work. I know when I mowed this morning, the sweat was just pouring off my head. I was even sweating during my lower body work out, and that was 7:30 this morning. I have a lot of strength in my legs, so it usually doesn't make me sweat too bad. I think we may get a storm tonight, because it is really cloudy, and muggy. We usually don't have much humidity. But I was dying today.
My sister and her husband are here visiting from Boise. So I will spend tomorrow over at Mom's. She (my sister) will be staying on til Sunday, but her hubby is leaving tomorrow to meet up with a buddy to go diving with.
Deb-- Sounds like you are still busy as a bee. I don't know what I will do when I have to start sharing my computer. Dh has never even turned one on, and he is saying that he wants me to teach him the basics!! I just want to scream "NOOOO, this is my toy. Find your own. Ha ha!!" Post when you can, and know that we are thinking of you and your Mom. Hope all will be fine soon.
Jack-k-- Sorry to hear the scales were not too nice to you this morning. Sounds like you are getting back on track with the exercise. Next week will be better, I am sure. Thanks for the support Jack-k. I don't think I could have kept on with out all of the support here.
Gator-- That is so cool that you are doing this with your daughter. I so wish I had my best friend closer, so that we could do ours together. She does WW, but it would be so much fun to work out together in the mornings. I think sharing the ups and downs with someone is very supportive. It is nice that you have the clothes that you can give to her for her job. Dressing for corporate can get very expensive.
BOB-- Glad you got the rain. Congrats on the 15 pounds, that is awesome!!
Want-- Hang in there. I didn't lose anything for three or four weeks. Then a couple of pounds every other week or so. Now it is almost every week!! It will happen.
Jenn-- Hello!!
Pancho-- I know what you mean about the critters. We had to put up a six foot fence. We have a lot of white tail deer out here. Right now it is just lettuce, but it sure makes a good salad!!
Heart-- Glad the extra baggage from your camping trip is gone. My little nephew used to do the same things to his older sister. He could be a total terror at times, and then be just the sweetest little boy you ever saw.
Cherylco-- Thanks for the great info-- I don't mind the WW pasta so if it is lower on the GI, I will probably just stick to it. The only problem is that all I can find here is spaghetti noodles. I might use the other in a Minnestrone soup though. Or just break up the noodles?? Awesome job on the loss, you will soon be under that 200 mark, and then some!!
Fillise-- Congrats on the loss!! :jig:
Monet -- I just can't thank you enough. If it hadn't been for you, I wouldn't be here. Or having this much success. You were my push, when I was so frustrated. You are my saving grace!!
Sorry to hear that your Lupus is acting up, but am glad the toe is all better. And we miss you too when you are busy. But you are a working girl now, so we will just have to be more patient!!
Sheanne-- Sounds pretty scary-- hope things will calm down soon!!
Well, that is about all for now. See you all tomorrow sometime.
Debelli 06-19-2003, 08:25 AM Good Thursday Morning:wave:
Figured I was up and had a couple minutes before I have to get LAUREN up, or more like yell for her to get up. Have to make her lunch - one thing I hate about camp for her, making lunch. At school I don't have to bother because she usually ate their food-now I have to scurry around to not only find something to make (which she usually complains she doesn't like anyhow).
I'm going to try to get in a shower before I take her so I don't have to come home again, not that we're far from the camp, which is at the community college a straigh shot up the street, about 3-4 miles. I'm going to head straight up to the hospital and just stay there until I have to p/u LAUREN today. She's staying a little extra for a half hour of voice lessons so I'll be putting a full day in at the hospital.
Was suppose to have a board meeting tonight, not sure if I'm going to go, would only stay about a half hour and really don't feel like coming all the way home and then going back all the way out again. Want to be home by 8pm to watch MICHAEL on the telly. Can't remember if I mentioned it or not (brain freeze) but MICHAEL is going to be on PBS this evening at 8pm on a show called NEW FLORIDA. E-mailed those on the board here in the Sunshine State because we were told it would be on in other areas throughout the state, just not sure if it's the same time frame or the right episode. I looked at the PBS site and it didn't list his segment, but maybe they only list the bigger segments, as we were told his was only a 4-5 minute piece. He's not the only one interview, so if you are able to watch, don't blink-we may miss him! I see where tonight it says MR STINKY is part of the line-up, not MICHAEL'S alter-ego, about a local plant that stinks really bad when it blooms once in a blue moon. Anyhow, PBS called here on Monday and said it was airing tonight, and Sat. at 6pm and Sunday at 5pm. So, if you didn't get an e-mail from me, live in FLORIDA, try to watch and if you do get to see the show, please LMK:D
I hope you don't mind, I haven't had a chance to read the board, much less find the time to respond to all the posts from the beginning of the week. I'll just have to hop on when I can and give you updates throughout the weekend. Here's hoping next week will be better all the way aroun - posting and life in general.

The Quilter 06-19-2003, 09:33 AM Thursday Morning
Hello everyone! I hope you all are doing well. I really must apologize that I haven't been on the board all week. We've had so many things going on. I taught two evening classes this week and that makes for very little time to do my fun things.
I had a good weigh in Tuesday night at WW. Down 1.2 pounds which puts my total since January to 20.8 pounds. I'm so HAPPY to be over that 20 pound marker.
Hope you all are having a good week. I'll try to check in later. Things will calm down soon, I hope.
Take care! Sorry I can't respond to everyone. I see there are so many new people. Welcome! I hope you are enjoying getting to know everyone here. We've got a great bunch of people here.
Gotta run to work!
Kim
GatorGal 06-19-2003, 09:38 AM Monet--Thanks for the info on ANA antibodies. My new doctor had a thyroid antibody test run for me and the numbers were over 90!!!!! Very bad. So, I am beginning to understand this antibody stuff. Your description of a doctor who simply prescribes Synthroid and feels satisfied if the numbers look good is a good pix of my internist. I am feeling a LOT better today. Actually, I have been waiting on some new vitamins to come in--in liquid form, so stopped my others for a week or so. I started them again 2 days ago and feel better already. I weighed this morning and have not lost any weight in the last week, and I have been perfect, plus walking almost 3 miles every day. So I would not be surprised if my dose of Armour gets raised. I feel fine and have never felt generally tired all the time. It seems to be the metabolism issue. I have 6 more weeks until my next blood test.
Well gals, I already got my walking in for the day. I was out the door by 7:15 and did my 3 miles. It is very muggy here today and probably will rain off and on. I will probably study some French to start getting me up to speed for my class. I have to get UF to send my transcripts to UCF so I can finish registering. The class I want to take only has 2 spaces left in it and so I need to get this taken care of so I can get in the class.
Hope everyone has a really good day.
BOBatwork 06-19-2003, 10:19 AM MORNING EVERY BUDDY!!!

BOB
wanttheoldme 06-19-2003, 10:47 AM Hey ladies! I am awful cheerful to be at work this morning. Last night I ate tuna salad and ran out of eggs, so this morning I had to order by breakfast from a local coffeehouse. I ate scrambled eggs & cheese with bacon and water. Does any one know of any orange juice with no added sugar? For lunch, I plan to run to the grocery store for some needed items and eat the rest of my tuna salad on toast. We are having dinner tonight with a couple from a local church, they are youth pastors as well and in fact are the youth reps for our district. The man has been called into duty and is being shipped out next week. So we are having dinner with them tonight at a local italian place. Really good grilled chicken salads there!
Deb: Sorry to hear about your mom, hope she feels better soon. My mom had that in January and refused to go to the hospital. SHe had an infection in her lungs (she's a smoker) and she could not smoke anymore could not breath. So, she was forced to quit. The infection lasted like for 2 months. Well just recently I learned she started back up again (will she ever learn) but now she is lying about it. (my Dad spilled the beans, but I swore not to tell) All hell would break lose if she knew he told. Anyway, all I can do is pray for her. I always tell her, I would like for your to someday met my grandchildren! I don't even have children yet.
Well 3 days in a row, lookout I exercised again. I did 3 miles on my nifty tony little machine. Hopefully, I will see some difference in the scale soon.
Okay ladies, I am outta here.
:cb:
YellowRose 06-19-2003, 11:00 AM Hey,
Not good news at the doctor's office yesterday. The xrays showed that there has not been any bone healing since the surgery 4 months ago. He wants to try a device that straps to my shoulder and is suppose to stimilate bone growth. There is a 50 % chance this will work but if it doesn't, they will need to go back in and replate the collarbone and use bone from my hip to help get the bone to get going again. I have 3 to 6 months to let this new therpy work, so, wish me luck out there. In the mean time I am suppose to be very careful not do anything that will stress the plate that is already in place on my collarbone or it might break. There go my plans to play in my garden and help with work around the house. He did say that I could walk but no other exercises. I bet I will find plenty to do once I get over being mad about my situation.
Bye for now.
GatorGal 06-19-2003, 11:07 AM Lynn, I know someone who used one of those machines to stimulate their bone growth. It worked, so I hope you have the same good result.
Pancho 06-19-2003, 11:29 AM Good morning all:
I am on borrowed time, as my baby is still asleep, so I'll try to get everything in while I can.
I weighed in this morning at 129.5. I know so many people don't like to weigh every day due to fluctuations, and I used to be the same way, but I now look forward to getting on the scale every morning (thanks to a 22 pound loss in the past 3 1/2 months). It really keeps me on track. I was up to 131 yesterday after having that large Mexican Food meal on Tuesday evening, and now I'm back down to 129.5. The reason I like to do it every day is to nip anything in the bud early. If I see that I am up a bit in the morning, I will only allow myself one starchy carb that day to help me out, and almost certainly by the next morning I'm back down. I'm afraid if I weighed once a week like I used to, too much damage may be done by then. Anyway, that's why I like to do it every day.
Have a busy day planned; lots of errands to run to get prepared for our big trip. Plus, my aunt is flying in Saturday from Texas and will be spending all day with me on Sunday and Monday.
heartmom: Thanks for all the clarification. I was out of shredded wheat one morning and ate some of my daughter's Cheerios (but I had already thrown away the box - it was one of the giant ones from Costco), but I thought the sugar listed was only 1 gram. I am also glad to hear about the Triscuits...they taste the same to me, so I will stick with the reduced fat ones now.
Gatorgal: Thanks for the info. on the food processor; I would have never imagined using a food processor as a blender. I will keep my eye out for one; I don't like icy shakes. Congrats |
