Today is the begining of Week 2 and my official weigh-in after one week is a loss of 5 pounds. I really like this diet and have tried some of the recipies from the book and have enjoying them. Tomorrow I'm trying the Chicken Pistachio Salad: my friend said it was delicious. I also like the vegie Quiches, great for taking to work also.

Good going, Linda and Sil! Ellis is losing too but is too shy to mention it.

Congratulations, Sil!!

Ruth, am I shy? snicker.
I have lost a grand total of 8 pounds so far! :D I'm about half way through week 3.

Thank you Linda!
:grouphug:

Did you girls get the recipes from "Heidi" on the Prevention South Beach Forum? I can't remember if you talked about that earlier...
she'll send you a whole bunch of "new" recipes.

2BFIT1
06-17-2003, 09:41 AM
Way to go Ellis :bravo: :cb: :bravo: :cp: :high:

I saw the recipes at prevention by Heide and copied a few of them. I also bought a book (from Amazon) that was recommended called "The Good Carb Cookbook....". They said it had alot of great recipies, shopping tips, etc. Also ordered it along with the South Beach book for no S&H.

Ellis, are you staying in Phase 1 or have you moved on to 2? Have you started to incorporate P2 carbs into your diet and how is that going?

Linda~~~Dis I see "cheesecake and strawberries" on your meal plan? :s: How are you doing?

I really love this WOE because it is not a low carb nor high fat diet. This is very healthy way to live. I hope that I can develop these GOOD habits for a long time. Now, on to the exercise hurdle.

Everybody have a sunshine-filled day at the "BEACH".

OK, OK! I give in! I am going to order the book.
(Hmmmm - maybe I can borrow it from Ellis when she becomes perfect.)

Yes, you saw Cheesecake and Strawberries on my menu plan. LOL It's perfectly legal. Cheesecake is made with eggs and ricotta cheese and sweetened with Splenda, flavoured with vanilla and a bit of lemon juice and grated lemon rind. All allowed, even on Phase 1. The strawberries are my way of easing into Phase 2, although I have to admit I overdid it a bit yesterday. I even broke down and had two (count 'em ...TWO) home made bread rolls last night with butter. Gosh, they smelled so good coming out of the oven. :o Time to get strict with myself.

Thank you, Sil! :)
I'm going to check out that book "The Good Carb Cookbook..."

Yes, I'm on my first week of Phase Two. I was going to stay on Phase One for another week, but I was starting to cheat, and knew that I needed a change.

It's going GREAT! I lost 5 pounds the two weeks on Phase One, and so far this week I've lost 4 more! (Ruth, did you see that I lost another pound yesterday?)
I'm just being very careful about adding too many carbs back in. I'll often have a piece of flax toast in the morning with some "no sugar added fruit spread". Or the porridge cooked in skim milk with walnuts and cinnamon. yummy.
And I'll have a piece of fruit per day... an apple or a cup of berries. And some yogurt.
Hmmm... I guess I'm not really fully into Phase Two, but I'm content right now with what I've added. I suppose I'll just ease into it gradually.

Linda... that cheesecake sounds amazing! :T I'm going to try it... we just keep running out of ricotta cheese with those yummy desserts. Oh man... I would have eaten those buns, too! I LOVE bread/buns/bagels/...

Ruth, you can share my book. ;)

Have a wonderful day everyone!!

just ordered that cookbook from the library...

Well, I shouldn't have done it. I felt skinnier so I got on the scale this morning. I'm up 4 lb from Sunday morning!! It's gotta be the cheesecake. I guess I've slightly :^: overindulged. And the fresh buns probably didn't help. :^:
Back to Phase 1 for me and NO MORE CHEESECAKE. I can't believe I ate the whole thing!!! :p :p :p

I think I'm going to give this diet a go :) I've read several resources that say it's healthy and safe, and is particularly good if you have heart disease. There is a great article at WebMD http://my.webmd.com/content/article/65/72554.htm

I'm going to buy the book tonight.

Thank you, Suzanne. I needed a boost and that article did it. I'm having one of those dreaded "I'm eating everything in sight" days. And I haven't had a glass of water all day! I'm probably dehydrated...

Linda... are you drinking enough water? I'm so sorry about your gain, but don't despair... you can do this!

Ellis~I think that you are doing the right thing by adding the foods in slowly. You want to be able to maintain your losses and it looks like you are still losing. Great job .

Linda~~I was having a Mocha Ricotta dessert each night and my weight has stalled. I think that I'll cut down on them and have more jello.

I had the Pistachio~Chicken Salad with the avocado dressing for dinner tonight and it was FANTASTIC.

B~1 turkey bacon
2 vegi quiches

S~2 celery sticks w/ Artichoke and Dried Tomato Hummus

L~2 turkey roll ups

D~Pistachio~Chicken Salad

S~jello

Tomorrow I have 2 appointments : one at 11:00 with the dentist (gonna start Night White process to whiten my teeth :D ) and then a doctor appt at 1:45. I guess that I can make some turkey roll-ups with me to eat in between them. If I don't plan ahead I'll fail.

It's been a bad day all round. I started with multi grain toast but had two slices instead of one and topped them off with cream cheese and jam. Lunch at my aunt's was home made buns (that I had brought), deli chicken and cookies. Dinner was rice and stir fry pork and veggies. Ice cream figures in there somewhere as do some chocolates. Back to Phase 1 tomorow.

Oh... what a horrible day yesterday! The scale is back up a pound with good reason. Despite my feverish attempt to quell my appetite by drinking huge quantities of water last night, I still felt a terrible pull towards the sugar cookies I'd made for the kid's lunches. Ate 8 of them. Darn.

Sil, I hope your appointments went well yesterday. :)

I'm going to track EVERYTHING today!

So far:

- slice of flax bread with no-added sugar strawberry spread
- 2 waters
- V8 juice 340ml

- chicken breast
- cole slaw
- Renee's low fat roasted pepper garlic dressing
- no fat sour cream

- mocha ricotta dessert
- 3 high fibre low fat crisp breads w/strawberry spread
- 2 cheese sticks
- chicken breast
- small bag of Doritos
- 4 waters

DARN!! What a screw-up!! I think I'm a little depressed... I MUST do better tomorrow! That's a two-day in a row cheat!!

I DID have a good workout at the gym today, though. And my pedometer is at 7159 steps. It's ummm... 8:45 pm.
And I DID drink more water today.

LindaBC

I'll join you in the food tracking. So far today

Lean bacon
2 eggs

2 string cheese sticks
1 diet Revel

1 chicken breast
chopped veggie salad with oil/vinegar

I'm in phase 1 again but had an unplanned day yesterday. I have to get off the computer and go make my lunch. I didn't do that yesterday and this is how that worked out...

3 egg omelet with mushrooms and 2 sl English bacon (I have no idea what Canadian bacon is, unless of course you count what I'm sitting on but I digress)
2 pepperettes
2 lf mozz string cheese
chocolate doughnut
banana mut muffin
salmon on ww
apple
chicken burger on ww with mayo and lettuce.

Not exactly phase 1 or even SBD but today will be better because I'm getting off the computer and making my lunch now. :) *click*

Ruthxxx

Nora, "Canadian" bacon is peameal. The other kind is just bacon - or streaky bacon over the pond.
I am still dithering over whether to switch from Atkins. I guess I'm just a bit scared about Phase 2. Maybe I'll become a convert when I get the book.
Make your lunch!

noranoranora... what a hoot of a "name". I LOVE it!
Have you tried the turkey or chicken bacon? If you keep an open mind, it kind of grows on you.

Okay, I am going to do WELL today!
And so are the rest of you! We are tired of being fat girls! If we can't stick to a program for one little day, there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with us!!

:drill:

So far today:

- coffee w/skim milk :D
- 1 flax toast w/strawberry spread

- 2 coffees w/skim milk
- 1 cup blueberries with 1/3 cup no fat yogurt
- glass of water

- 2 glasses of water
- sliced sweet potato grilled with olive oil, thyme, cayenne, salt and pepper (YUMMY!!)

I still feel the urge to binge... I'm going to make myself another coffee and sit down with a bunch of recipes and make a list of meals for the coming week.

- that dinner thingy (see recipe below). It was REALLY good!
- diet ginger ale
- 2 waters
- pistachios

Come on ladies~ Ellis is right. I know you can do this for at least 2 weeks:drill:

Today is day 11 and my scale finally moved down another pound this morning. Thanks for the encouragement, Ellis. I know that it might be slower in the second week and I'm willing to stick to this and not cheat. otherwise, it will NEVER happen.

Yesterday I was on the go with a dental appt and doc appt, so I packed a small cooler with drinks (lemon water, Fruit 2 O, and crystal lite), string cheese, SF jello and 2 turkey roll-ups. It was a life saver :goodvibes

Yesterday I had:

B~eggbeater omelette ( with mushrooms and 1 turkey bacon in pieces)

L~2 turkeyroll-ups

S~1 string cheese
SF jello
D~left over Pistachio Chicken breast
large bowl of roasted veggies (eggplant, red bell peppers &
onions) with melted mozzarella cheese.

This morning I'm going to make another batch of the veggie quiches as they were so handy to have around.
Tonight is our night to go out for dinner. Not sure where we'll go but I will make sure that I stay on program (OP).

As far as exercise goes, I am planning on doing at least 20 min on the exercise bike and lift a few weights. I would love to be able to make this a habit again. I'll have to work on that. I am doing much better about getting all my water :D

Alright ladies~~~I expect one lousy day of NO CHEATING :drill:

I'm starting today! I can't wait to catch up with you guys :) My Veggie Quiche Cups are in the oven now.

ellis
06-19-2003, 10:37 AM
Sil won't agree with me, Suzanne, but those quiches taste like hay. Spinach hay. Perhaps if they had a good old-fashioned lard pastry they might not taste so bad...

Suzanne 3FC
06-19-2003, 11:21 AM
I didn't think they were that bad! I did find myself daydreaming ways to make them better, though. I didn't exactly make them as the recipe instructed. It was too early in the morning for chopping vegetables, so I used a diced onion/celery/pepper mix I had in the freezer, and I cooked them in a skillet before adding to the spinach. They were ok. The next time I make them, I'll use fresh vidalia onions, chopped roasted red bell peppers, and basil.

ellis
06-19-2003, 11:31 AM
Hmmmm... I'm starting to wonder if I made them wrong. Or if there's something wrong with everyone else's taste buds. :D I'm glad you liked them.

I'm making this for dinner tonight. I found it in the recipe forum here. I think.

Riceless Spanish Rice

1 lb. Turkey ground
1/2 head of cabbage
1 can tomato product any kind
seasonings....salt pepper garlic etc.
1 large onion
1Tbsp. grated cheese
1 green pepper
Brown meat, add all ingredients. Simmer all ingredients for about 35 minutes. Delicious.

I'm incredibly lazy, so I'm going to used a bag of all-cabbage cole slaw that I have in the fridge. :)

Ruthxxx
06-19-2003, 11:49 AM
Gee, that's almost identical to my beef and cabbage thingie. i guess I could do it with ground turkey and use it for SBD. I serve mine with sour cream and hot sauce which is OK for Atkins but ....

Hello Ruth (and everyone else) I have been around these boards for a long time but don't post too much. This thread caught my eye because I'm very interested in the SBD and planning to start on Monday. I also always like seeing Ruth's Porties (being an Irish Water Spaniel owner I have a real affecction for curly haired water dogs).

Anywhooo - I have been following WW for way to long and am sick to death of obsessing over numbers and points. I'm tired of looking for fake foods to beat the points caculator. The SBD seems to be a more sensible and less intensive approach. It sounds as if you all agree and I hope you don't mind if I pop in once in a while to share encouragement.

You all probably already check the Prevention.com forum on SBD. Today I noticed a thread of past question answered by the good Doc himself. It is very informative to a newbie like me. Also - he is doing a live chat there tonight.

Susie, you sure don't post much! Last one was in May 2002. I'm glad you wandered back in here.

Don't get me started on the merits of our dogs or they'll boot me out. Did you ever see people's eyes glaze over online? I have an interesting Irish Water Spaniel story that I'll PM to you.

Ellis, I'll get the damned book soon. I keep thinking I'll make it to Chapters in Kingston but don't get there. OK - I'll order it online RIGHT NOW so stop nagging! If she were any kind of a friend, she'd buy it for me and drive up here with a copy!

ellis
06-19-2003, 03:30 PM
Yeah, my eyes are glazing over right this minute.
I'd drive right over, but my rad's starting to go, and it might turn into a $500 trip. Which of course you're worth (I suppose), but when you don't got it, you don't got it.
Are you closer to Kingston than you are to Ottawa? Did I tell you about the time that DH did the bike thingy from Ottawa to Kingston and back? A two day trip. He had a MAJOR problem when he got back, and had to buy himself a new bicycle seat. I thought my sex life was over, but everything turned out well.

I'm sorry, but I hate Walmart. There's a ton of stuff in the latest flyer that I want to buy because it's cheap, but I guess I'll go to Canadian Tire and Zellers instead. ho hum.

Just got my income tax back. I made an error of about $2700. So we got back $1300 instead of the $4000 I'd been wishing for. Some sort of sign from God, no doubt.

I have been sooooooo naughty the past few days. I don't know if I'm eating comfort food because of the death of my uncle but that's my excuse. I hate the way it's making me feel though...all bloated and tired. Somebody, give me a swift kick....PLEASE!! I know I can do this. I've DONE it for weeks without faltering, but lately I can't seem to put two days OP together.

Oh Linda... I'm so sorry about your uncle. :grouphug:
I'm having the same problem. Must be something in the air. In Canada. Some weird ion thing happening.

Listen girl, you have to get off your BUTT and do something! Comfort food only makes you crave MORE comfort food, and that's full of sugar! It's a vicious circle. Get off the wagon... get some GOOD carbs into you, and lots of vegetables!!
And get outside and walk for 10 minutes!

I did quite well yesterday. The only thing I sort of screwed up on was to have 3 pieces of Laughing Cow cheese (that name kills me. Not to mention the picture of the cow with the "earrings"), and too many pistachios.
However... I've dropped that pound that I gained this week. AND I've lost another! So I've lost 10 pounds so far!

Happy Friday Ladies ~~

Ruth~~~get that book and join us. This diet is so much easier than any other I've tried.

Susie~~Welcome to the "beach". The more the merrier.

Linda~~I have a stick of dynomite that I'm willing to light under your hinney~don't make me do it.

Sue~~~I love the group name~go for it

Ellis~~ WAY TO GO, GIRL!! keep it going. I make my veggie quiches with more eggbeaters than the recipe calls for, and use red bell peppers & vidalia onions (sweeter) and Mrs. Dash plus alittle cumin and garlic. You might try adding in some cooked turkey bacon pieces, as the calorie , fat and protein content are not high.

Well, I had my first slip since June 9 when I started~~OK, OK, I actually planned it :s: We went out for Mexican food last night so I was real careful with my food all day in anticipation. I had the steak & chicken fajitas and used 5 tortilla chips to scoop up the pico de gillo (sp?) and guacomole but gave my DH my re-fried beans, rice and fresh flour tortillas.

B~2 veggie quiches
L~sirloin burger patty
S~ celery sticks with hummus
D~steak/chicken fajita (no tortillas)
guacamole/pico mix
5 tortilla chips :nono:
1 margarita :nono:
S~cottage cheese w/SF jello

Maintained my weight this morning~ :cloud9:

Thanks for the welcome and Happy finally Friday!
I have a question for you that are more experienced with low-carb diets. I am very interested in SBD but I'm also starting to train to walk a marathon. While I'm sure that Phase 1 will be a benefit to me since I really do eat a lot of bad carbs - I wonder if this plan is feasible for training.

I'm not to worried about my daily training routine - it's the long walks on the weekends that concern me. Do you think its possible to load up on enough good carbs to sustain 4 - 6 hour walks? And do you think that some amount of carb loading to facilitate the long walks would diminish the overall benefits of the South Beach Diet? Any advice?

Thanks In Advance.

Suzanne 3FC

Hey guys! Yesterday (day 1) went pretty well for me, and I logged my food into my journal. All was fine, until those late hours before bed when the munchies always attack. I ate pistatchios and sugar free jello. Probably should not have had the pistachios. Believe it or not, I've never had pistachios before, unless they were in ice cream that is. Those little things are addictive!

Susie, this is all new to me, but I would guess that carb loading would not be a good idea on SBD. The idea seems to be cleansing the body, then very gradually introducing carbs back into the diet. Loading up on carbs, even if it's just on the weekends, might throw it out of whack. I'm sure someone with more carb experience will give a better answer.

ellis

So far:

- 3 coffees w/skim milk
- omelet with onion, red pepper, spinach, garlic
- 2 waters

- 1/2 cup oats cooked in 1 cup of skim milk w/cinnamon and 1 tbsp chopped walnuts
- ricotta dessert
- 2 waters

- small piece of "legal" pumpkin square that a friend brought over who is on Atkins

- 1 coffee w/skim milk

- 3 lamb sausages
- small chunk of stilton cheese
- 2 fat free no sugar popsicles
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Susie... I'm not completely certain, either, but certainly stocking up on a lot of "good carbs" is far better than the "bad".
The bad carbs give you a sugar rush, while the good ones feed you gradually. :)

Suzanne... pistachios are wicked, huh!? I always eat too many. I keep telling myself that I'm burning calories by cracking them open. :D

That must be why I was so tired after eating so many! And I thought it was from pigging out :o

I'm still hanging in there. Yesterday's leftover spinach cups weren't as good as they were on the first day. So I had an omelet made with egg substitute, with a spoon of low fat cheese and a slice of smoked turkey, diced.

Lunch was another salad with leftover balsamic chicken. I had 2 snacks, but haven't had dinner yet. I'm wondering if I should eat dinner, since it's 9:30 at night. I'm not hungry. It's just been a busy day.
